So I see A LOT of angsty edits centered around Dick and Wally’s fight in season 2 of Young Justice.

Don’t get me wrong, I like angst as much as the next guy, but just a reminder that that fight was never supposed to be this be-all, end-all, their-friendship-breaking-down thing.

Dick and Wally had always been realistic best friends in that they argue and challenge each other plenty then they get over it. They’re honest and tough on each other in a way only best friends are. That’s part of what I loved about them in season 1. They talked to each other in a way that you could literally only talk to your best friend.

This is even brought up in season 3 when Dick goes to Will because Wally isn’t there to knock some sense into him.

SO back to season 2. Disclaimer: Dick and Wally had not drifted apart between seasons. Wally is retired but there are literally no indications that they’re not still best friends.

So the fight. Wally is literally the only person who knows Dick and Kaldur’s plan (besides Artemis). And he’s Dick’s best friend (questioning his lack of objectivity when choosing to trust Kaldur is what a best pal’s FOR). He has to question it. Because Kaldur nearly getting everyone killed and blowing up the base was insane and worth questioning.

But really, even in this fight, Wally is questioning Kaldur more than Dick. He’s asking Dick if he really trusts him.

This argument happens in March and the big finale takedown (during which Dick, Wally, and Barbara show up together) is in June. Dick and Wally are perfectly fine during this. They don’t hold a grudge for 3 months.

dick’s depression after wally

[missing my best friend so bad so i wrote this]

“he had to carry his own burdens again. he’d forgotten how.”

he lost his conscience, the voice that kept him grounded. and it left him feeling lost.

seeing him everywhere.

brutality with goons/villains, e.g: blood, excessive blunt force, recklessness that got him injured (more than once).

dick never really slept much before it happened. he doesn’t sleep at all anymore. every time he tries to close his eyes and fall into the peace of nothing, he sees him.

he sees his face, and every conversation they had.

this wasn’t like losing a parent. it wasn’t like losing a comrade, or a soldier. this was something different. the hole in his chest was too big to drown out. he didn’t really have a way to avoid it, so he sat there. and thought about wally, and what he could’ve done differently, and how he could’ve been more involved in his life, and how he had never really told him how glad he was to have a best friend like wally.

he was a kind soul. he was a little spastic, but he cared more than anyone else ever would. about everyone. he gave and gave, he was full of hope, he was such an honest friend. he was loyal to a fault and fiercely protective. most importantly, he held dick accountable to himself.

over and over, the grief came in waves. it drowned him, he was choking and gasping for air as he tried to keep the room from spinning. his chest felt like it was full of acid, he lost track of how much time had passed. he went on like this for days.

at night, he went on patrol. it was business as usual, unless you asked ——. every time he threw a punch, he hit a little bit harder. he saw the faces of reach warriors when looking at the goons he fought. the scenes he left behind grew bloodier and more careless and time went on.

eventually, his family grew worried. barbara checked on him frequently after it started to get worse. she’d call him while he was on patrol with the oracle system. dick grew irritated the more he heard from her, eventually giving up the use of oracle to get away from barbara’s “pestering”.

conner and megaan dealt with it in their own way, and they had each other. artemis had wally’s family, she had her mother. dick had no one. his best friend was DEAD. it started again. the panic. the cycle repeated again, just like every other day. he’d lost track of how long it had been. that hole in his chest, filling up with water and drowning him in grief all over again.

Obviously had to send you something pertaining to Dick so here's Wally's checklist from that one time he went over to cover for Dick who called out of work that one time and his boss was coming over to check on him. So Wally ran over to his apartment and pretended to vomit and be him, had it on the list and everything as you can see true friendship right here.

The batkids are known for sharing clothes amongst each other, so imagine everyone’s surprise when Jason won’t let them borrow his hoodie. Upon further inspection they find out it’s Roy’s hoodie. This causes a chain reaction and now Dick won’t let anyone borrow his Wally hoodie, Tim won’t let anyone borrow his Kon hoodie, Damian with Jon’s clothes(which there was no need for because Damian’s clothes never fit anyways), Duke with Izzy’s, Cass with Steph, and so on. After this “civil war” they all reluctantly agree to end this and all clothes (their own or not) is up for grabs. (minus Damian and Jon, of course)

bonus is when their partners steal the batkids clothes only to find out later that it’s definitely not a wayne kids clothing item.

Roy: That’s my sweater?

Wally: Yeah well Kon’s wearing my pants so…

Izzy: I’m probably wearing one of your boxers, it’s for sure not Dukes

Kon: how do you know?

Izzy: Because Duke doesn’t own Minecraft boxers???

More Bird flash Headcanons

Dick and Wally's first date was a disaster, but not because of the media but because Bruce paid Barbara and Tim to spy on them and they kept accidentally causing issues.

After the media outed the two a lot of the woman who were in love with Dick started a petition to send him to conversion therapy.

Bruce was mailed said petition and held a press conference where he burned it in front of thousands of people

For their one year anniversary Wally cashed in a favour with Bruce and got the location of Haley's Circus' next show and took Dick.

Dick in turn the next year got Barry to go back in time and get something for Wally that he thought was lost forever.

When they first had 🍋 they weren't together and wouldn't get together for another year.

Damian a few months after becoming Robin meets Wally while him and Dick are on patrol and he watched the two interact for the first time. It took him two weeks to realize the two were dating.

After the realization that they were dating Damian proceeded to somehow get batcow to sit on top of Wally and than lectured the red head for an hour on all the different ways he could kill him.

When Dick walked into the Batcave to see the whole situation happening it took him ten minutes to stop laughing long enough to tell Damian to stop.

They pulled the propose at the same time thing.

All the batfamily and flashfamily knew both were going to propose.

There are at least 16 different videos of the proposals happening.

Bruce once said, half-jokingly, that anyone who wanted to marry any of his kids had to beat hik in single combat first. Unfortunately, joking on the Bat looks dead serious to everyone not in his circle, so now Wally is busy learning Muay Thai, Roy is brushing up on Krav Maga, and Conner has resigned himself to living in sin. Steph just figures she'd ask Cass to fight her battles for her.

Conner: I’m sorry. I love you, but we can never marry.

Tim, thinking about who he might need to politely go ask Jason to take care of:

Conner, entirely serious: I’m never going to be able to beat your dad.

Tim, hearing “beat UP” because he was thinking about Jason punching Luthor:

Tim: I feel like further explanation might be necessary here.

Wally: Okay. I think I’m ready to fight Batman.

Dick, only half paying attention: *nods* I understand completely. I have the same urge all the time.

Dick is always worried about his loved ones. He doesn't want them to be hurt because they are associated with him. That's why he reacted so feral once Blockbuster threatened to go after his loved ones:

Some issues ago, Dick asked Wally how he manages to be superhero and also have a family. Because in Dick's mind the latter is always endangered when it's associated with the first

Wally didn't try to sugarcoat the situation: being superhero and having a family isn't something easy. But that doesn't mean that a superhero should give up on personal relationships and on things that make life better. Wally is right that Dick deserves to be happy - even if Dick and that moment hadn't realized it yet.

Fast forward a few issues, Nightwing's true identity is out and Dick being his overprotective self asks Barbara to break up with him for the sake of her safety:

Thankfully, Babs has none of this shit. She believes - like Wally did before- that they deserve to be happy together and that their relationship is worth facing together whatever problems the nightwing revelation will bring. And finally this time Dick was also ready to accept that he deserves happiness.

It was nice to read that the people who know him the best - Wally and Babs- were the ones who gave him the same valuable advice.
