I think they forgot a very important detail in that scene, or maybe Bruno was just being nice. 🐀
(Encanto Bloopers #01 perhaps?)

Encantober Day 10 - Animals
As it turns out, Bruno’s rats cannot keep a secret.
~~~~~
“Don’t say anything.”
“What if the boy asks?”
“Then we’ll just talk about the one with the red bow!”
“That seems a bit mean, don’t you think?”
“It’s better than blowing Mamá’s cover!”
Parce clenches his fists as the small rats scurry across the cupboards and shelves, slowly making their way to Antonio. They look so delicious, yet he knows not to eat any meat in front of Antonio, his new friend. At least, any moving meat.
“What’s got you freaking out?” Chispi asks as she rounds the corner. “You’re acting like the rest of Antonio’s family.”
“Rats would make a great quick snack but I have a feeling I shouldn’t be eating these,” Parce responds.
“Why not? They’re just rats, it’s not like anyone will miss them,” Chispi says.
“Their mamá might,” Parce says. “They keep saying ‘don’t blow Mamá’s cover’.”
“Mamá?” Chispi cocks her head. “Why would they be hiding their own mother?”
“Let’s ask them,” Parce says. The two animals trot over to where the rats are hiding. Chispi clears her throat.
The rats jump out of their hiding spot, leaping from the top part of the shelf and landing on the ground. They groan as they roll to their feet.
“Hello,” Chispi says. The rats turn and gasp when they see the bigger animals. The smaller ones immediately dart behind the tallest.
“I assume you’re here to talk to Antonio, right?” Chispi asks.
The tallest rat cautiously walks closer to Chispi, mindful of the jaguar behind her. “Antonio? Is that the smallest human’s name?”
Chispi nods. “He’s one of the magical humans. He can talk to animals. Do you have something to say to him?”
“Uhhh…” the tallest rat falters as the other two shake their heads. He quickly turns around to chat to the other two. The trio exchange angry whispers before the middle one, with flecks of white on her back, speaks up.
“We just, uh, were grabbing some food for our mamá,” she stammers, wringing her tail. “He hasn’t had warm food for a while and it’s not like the family is eating the rest of that delicious meal, right?”
“He? I thought all mamás were female,” Parce remarks. The other rats glare at the spotted rat.
“It’s just a term we use for him!” the spotted rat hastily exclaims. “He looks after our whole colony, and in return, we bring him something to eat!”
“Why would a rat need human food?” Chispi interrogates, squinting.
The rats tremble under her fearful gaze. Parce can’t blame them. In the 24 hours he’s known her, Chispi has already become the mother friend of the group, and can weed out a lie with her gaze in mere seconds.
“Chispi, what are you doing to those poor rats?” a small voice asks. The animals look up to see Antonio running back into the dining room, Pico the toucan perched on his shoulder. The young boy suddenly spots the rats and bends down, holding his hands out.
“Hello! You must be the rats I hear in the walls!” Antonio says. “You guys sure mumble a lot. Well, one of you does. He’s always near the dining room.”
The smallest rat suddenly screams, startling all parties. Chispi and Parce quickly rush to Antonio’s side while Pico flies into the air.
“ALRIGHT I ADMIT IT THERE’S A HUMAN LIVING IN YOUR WALLS, HE’S HAVING AN IDENTITY CRISIS AND HE PATCHES THE CRACKS THAT YOUR PRIMA SAW ON YOUR BIRTHDAY HE’S THE ONE WHO MADE THE GREEN TABLET YOU SAW TONIGHT!”
Antonio’s jaw drops and he turns to the family mural behind Abuela’s chair. Lightning flashes over the missing man’s portrait. “Tío Bruno is living where?!”
The kink in the circle around Chispi is so pronounced that Bruno could make a better circle by going round the other side of Chispi so she was on the outside.
So why doesn’t he?
Probably because he knows that would put Chispi in the scariest swirlingest part of the vision, getting blasted with glowing sand. And he’s trying to protect her. Because that’s the kind of guy he is.
Encantober Day 4: Head Pats
I'm imagining that they're posing for a photo :)
Decided to break out the markers for the first time in years for this one! I forgot how fun they are to work with.
Edit: Painstakingly drew little clothing design details, forgot Félix's beard. There's always something. Maybe he's going through a clean-shaven phase.
More Encanto modern au stuff
Honestly, I just really wanted to continue this AU, so here’s more!
Btw, I have a few other Disney modern AU posts ready, and I’ll post them while writing the shitty!Julieta and shitty!Pepa AUs, so those might take awhile.
Anyways, have some more modern stuff!
Dolores often goes out with her friends after attending the bookclub, going to a bar and gossiping about the latest drama regarding their peers, and their families (Lolo never gossips about her parents and brothers, but she mostly does about Bruno and Mira…).
While Julieta’s family don’t have any pets, Pepa’s family have a cat named Parce, a toucan named Pico, and a capybara named Chispi.
Agustín teaches Luisa piano whenever both were free from their jobs.
Isabela often helps Julieta cook dinner, while talking about spices, herbs and other plants.
Parce’s favorite hoomans are Antonio and Agustín😊
Mariano often takes Dolores on classic romantic dates, such as eating at a nice restaurant with candles, or watching a movie in the theater with popcorn.
Antonio loves whenever Mirabel comes to babysit him (which is very often…). They often play with his animal plushies, or pet Parce, or simply drawing together😊
Pico doesn’t like Mirabel for some reason. The toucan often flies away from her, or ignores her :(
Pepa and Isabela are very close, and the latter often visits the former and her Tío Félix and cousins whenever her shift ends early :D
Pepa should get an emotional support animal, Bruno has his rats.
Antonio is actually training Parce and Chispi to be my emotional support animal when needed.
Basically I still draw sticker designs and I figured I'd go a little further with Disney. Much further because I plan to do at least two more posts with animal characters. 😊 And in the art there is Daisy duck, Chispi from Encanto, Pascal from Tangled, Lady and Tramp & Marie from The Aristocats. Do you have an idea for another pet you would like to see?
The Gift ~ an Encanto fic
Tumblr media
[Summary: On her sixteenth birthday, Mirabel receives a gift like no other. Sequel to “Home” but also serves as a stand-alone fic.]
As the party wound down, Bruno retreated to the little alcove tucked into the side of the staircase. He sat at the empty table there, facing the courtyard. Though most of Mirabel’s friends had already gone home, Antonio and his buddy Juancho, fueled by sugar and coffee respectively, had no intentions of letting the party end anytime soon. Riding Chispi, Juancho chased Antonio, who rode Parce, in a wide circle around the remaining partygoers. Bruno chuckled. He wondered whether the capybara had had coffee as well, judging by how energetic he was. Or perhaps he simply enjoyed being the cat for once in the age-old game of cat and mouse.
Maybe I should have had more coffee, Bruno mused. He looked down at the small package that sat before him on the table and idly drummed his fingers on the aged wood. He’d given it his best shot by attempting to actively include himself in the festivities for Mirabel’s sake. It was her birthday, after all. He’d wanted her to know that he cared enough to be a part of it, and to her credit, she had asked him several times throughout the day if he wanted to take a break. Coffee could only do so much, and spoons of sugar did not equate to spoons of social energy. Now that Bruno had retreated to the alcove, he knew that the party was officially over for him. Still, he’d managed to stick it out better than he had at his own birthday party five months earlier. It had been his first birthday with his sisters in ten years, but he hadn’t really been ready for it. With each family member’s birthday since his return, he made the effort to be in attendance, and though he tried to be inconspicuous, he felt like he could never escape the curious glint or distrustful glare of the villagers’ eyes.
And there were times, like right now, when Bruno would almost swear that he felt his father’s eyes on him. If he were to turn in his seat and peer up through the faded blue balusters of the staircase, he would be able to see Pedro’s portrait hanging up over the landing. On the back of his head, they seemed to cast an uneasy tingle, but whenever Bruno looked into those amber eyes, they were gentle. Compassionate. Wise. Patient. And sometimes it was all too much, and he would have to look away. Still, there was a strange comfort to this small section of Casita. As a child, Bruno had spent a lot of time on that landing and in the alcove beside it, where he was sitting now. Just to be near that portrait. Just to be close to the father he never knew. The package on the table drew his attention again, and he moved his fingers to drum on that instead. The paper it was wrapped in did not make the same satisfying sound that the tabletop made, but feeling the little gift under his hand gave him an added sense of comfort. Bruno turned his head to cast an apologetic glance at the staircase. He did not meet the eyes of the portrait. He didn’t need to. He felt his father’s approval. Now all he had to do was wait for Mirabel to approach him. Even without his gift, he knew it would happen soon. And sure enough, there she was walking up to him with a smile on her face and a plate in each hand. Bruno moved to stand up, but Casita was already pulling a chair out for Mirabel to sit down. “I saved you some merengón!” she said, setting one of the two plates in front of him. Bruno had moved the package to his lap when he saw her approach. He looked at the small mountain of merengue, whipped cream, and fruit that took its place on the table. He hadn’t even realized how hungry he still was, despite having food thrust at him left and right by his mother and sisters during the party. “Oh, gracias!” Bruno replied, picking the fork off the plate. He tucked his hair behind his ears before taking a bite of the merengón. Mirabel chuckled. “Looks like Dolores was right.” Bruno swallowed and gave her a puzzled look. “Right about what?” “About not having the biggest ears in the family.”
“Oh, heh. Yeah.” Bruno touched an ear self-consciously. “That’s why my hair is so long. To cover ‘em up. But then my hair sometimes gets in the way of me eating, and hair in your food is gross, even when it’s your own, you know?”
Mirabel nodded. “Did you enjoy the party?” Bruno nodded back. “Yeah. It was good. I mean, as good as a big, noisy gathering of people can be, so kindaaaeehhhh… But anyway, shouldn’t I be asking you that question? It was your party, after all. So, did you enjoy it?”
She looked at him for a moment before answering. “Yeah. It was good.”
They finished their dessert in silence. Somewhere upstairs, the deep, pitiful meows of a jaguar could be heard. This was followed by the pleading voice of Antonio begging his mother to let Parce into her room for some reason that was drowned out by thunder. Moments later, a light hailstorm spilled over the upper mezzanine and onto the courtyard below. Parce must be acting like a big kitten right now, trying to butter Pepa up, Bruno thought. He and Mirabel were sheltered by the alcove, but he watched with a smile as the little marbles of ice bounced on the floor tiles nearby.
Bruno looked over at Mirabel as the two of them finished their merengón. “You’ve got a little something here,” he said, tapping the corner of his mouth.
Mirabel wiped at the corresponding spot on her face with a finger, then licked the dab of whipped cream from it. “Sorry. I was too excited for dessert to remember napkins.” Bruno chuckled. “Oh! That reminds me…” He picked up the package on his lap and placed it on the table. It was so lightweight that he had completely forgotten it was there. Bruno grinned at Mirabel. The look on her face told him exactly what he already knew: she recognized the parchment paper and the green yarn tied around it. The very same paper and yarn she had used to wrap her birthday gift to him the previous year. “Happy birthday, Mírame.”* Mirabel looked up at him in surprise. “I haven’t been called that since I was five.” Bruno’s face fell. “Oh, sorry. I didn’t think you’d mind. I mean, I’m fifty-one and I’m still being called Bru and Bruni and Brunito and hermanito. B-but if you feel like you’re too old to have a nickname, I completely unders–”
Mirabel reached out to Bruno’s wildly gesturing hands and squeezed one reassuringly. “You were the only one who ever called me that,” she said softly, with a smile as gentle as a sunrise. “Don’t ever stop. But maybe don’t use it around Camilo!”
Bruno smiled back. He picked up the package with his free hand and offered it to her. “Hope you like it.”
Mirabel undid the yarn bow and unfolded the parchment paper. Inside was a small scrap of powder blue fabric. It unfurled to reveal a handkerchief, not unlike the one she had given him for his birthday. Just as his handkerchief had his initials embroidered in opposite corners in gold thread, this one had two M’s embroidered in opposite corners in turquoise blue thread. The letters were off-centered and crooked. In each of the other two corners was a yellow and pink butterfly. They were different sizes, and one had asymmetrical wings. Mirabel stared at the handkerchief. Bruno rubbed his arm. “It’s been a long time,” he murmured, looking away. “I, uh, I started on it in November, but I knew it wouldn’t be done in time for Christmas because I’m out of practice, but –” “Wait, YOU made this?” Bruno looked back at Mirabel, who was now staring at him in wide-eyed shock. He couldn’t help but wince a little. “Y-yes?”
Mirabel’s stare seemed to intensify, making Bruno wince visibly this time. “Like I said, it’s been a long, long time, Mira. I mean, I mended my clothes all the time inside the walls, but I haven’t embroidered anything since –”
“YOU KNOW HOW TO EMBROIDER AND YOU DIDN’T EVEN TELL ME?!”
By this point, the girl sitting across from him looked positively maniacal. Bruno was sure she was about to pounce on him, but whether it would be to hug him or throttle him, he could not foresee. The one time he really should have winced, he found himself chuckling instead. “I thought you already knew! Who do you think embroidered the pink and purple flowers on that pillow over there?” he said, gesturing toward another alcove across the courtyard. In it was a sofa with several throw pillows. “And who do you think put the stars on your bedroom curtains?”
Mirabel looked from her uncle to the cloth in her hand. “I had no idea.” Bruno studied her. She hadn’t said a word yet about her gift, and he was beginning to grow uneasy. Did she like it? Did she hate it? Was she appalled that it was embroidered by a man? Surely she knew –
“I always thought that… Abuelo taught Abuela, and she taught me,” Mirabel whispered. She looked up at him questioningly. Bruno nodded with a smile. “I wanted to learn whatever my father could teach me. Even if he wasn’t there to teach me himself. I-I just wanted to make him proud, you know? To be just like him.” He looked at the cloth and his smile faded. “But I never got very good at it, as you can see. Not like you. I know you made him proud. But I –”
Mirabel’s sudden and crushing hug rendered him silent.
“It’s perfect,” she told him. “Gracias, Tío.” Bruno hugged her back, relieved. “De nada,  Mírame.”
After a long moment, Mirabel finally let go, and Bruno took the handkerchief from her. He stood up and turned to face the portrait on the landing, holding up the cloth like a child proudly showing off the picture he drew in school. “Sorry about your shirt, Papá. I managed to save part of it, though.”
Mirabel looked at him curiously. “Your abuela gave me all of his clothes when I came of age, hoping they’d fit me,” he explained. “Most were too big on me, and we had them tailored so I could wear them. I kept one shirt unaltered as a way to preserve it the way Papá wore it. Unfortunately, some of the rats found it while I was living in the walls and chewed holes in it. I would have been able to mend it if the holes were close enough to a seam, but there was no way to fix them where they were without using a patch to cover them up, so…” Mirabel gasped and grabbed the cloth from his hands. “Are you saying you made this from Abuelo’s shirt?”
Bruno nodded, blushing slightly. Eyes brimming with tears, Mirabel held the handkerchief to her heart. “This best gift ever just got even better.” Sharing a smile, the two turned to gaze up at the portrait. THE END
Tumblr media
[Bruno's handkerchief from Mirabel (from the fic "Home") and Mirabel's handkerchief from Bruno] * Mírame means "look at me" in Spanish. It sounded like it would make a cute nonsensy sort of nickname for Mirabel when she was little. Thank you to @moon-calvary and @jacarandaaaas for your suggestions!
Encanto Ride the Cyclone AU.
For @glowing-celesticpetals, based on the prompt: “maybe something about Antonio or Bruno in the Ride the Cyclone Au?”
This is the last you’ll see of the living side; the family grieving the loss of the four children.
Comments are always appreciated.
Warning, sensitive topics ahead: character death.
~~~~~~
Just Another Tragic Fact
Bruno sighed to himself.
The four gravestones, all lined up, layered in a variety of plants - Isabela would have hated it if it was all just flowers.
Here lies
Luisa Amalia Rojas Madrigal
14th November 1930 - 14th September 1951
Beloved daughter and sister.
Here lies
Camilo Valentino Estrada Madrigal
28th December 1934 - 14th September 1951
Beloved son and brother.
Here lies
Isabela Cristina Rojas Madrigal
7th August 1928 - 14th September 1951
Beloved daughter and sister.
Here lies
Dolores Victoria Estrada Madrigal
31st August 1928 - 14th September 1951
Beloved daughter, sister and partner.
Seeing it makes it real.
Not that it didn’t feel real watching the crash and seeing their dead bodies be pulled from the wreckage.
The funeral had came and went.
The loss of the children, who had been dubbed ‘Encanto’s Four Saints’, had impacted the town itself. Everyone was draped in mourning garb and music and laughter almost vanished from the streets.
But, of course, it brought the most impact to the Madrigals themselves.
“I’m sorry,” Bruno says to them.
It’s a relatively bright and dry afternoon - considering Encanto has been living in a constant storm since the Cyclone accident.
Pepa must be asleep. She’s done a lot more of that recently.
He doesn’t blame her.
“I should have seen… I should have been able to warn you. Then maybe you’d still be…” he sighs, breaking into tears again.
“Tío Bruno?”
He sniffles. “Hey, Toñito.”
“What are you doing?”
“I thought I’d just come to see them. It’s a nice day.”
“You don’t have to say ‘sorry’. You couldn’t have known what would happen at the fair.”
“No, you all couldn't have known. This is my gift. This is what I’m for. But… I didn’t even think to look and now it’s my fault they’re gone.”
“Still. You can’t blame yourself.”
Tight arms fasten around him.
Bruno accepts the hug.
It probably should be the other way around, it’s not him who has lost his siblings and cousins.
~~~~~~
Antonio doesn’t quite process that they are gone.
He knows they are dead, but… their family has a miracle, why wouldn’t it bring them back?
When a bunch of baby capybaras are born the following week, he names them after his siblings and cousins.
The quietest capybara he names Lola. She was the oldest of the four. She’s always hiding behind his legs. She insists she be carried up and down the stairs. He finds a pinkish red ribbon in Mirabel’s room that he asks his Mama to tie in a bow for Lola.
Next came Luis. He was the biggest of the litter, so Antonio didn’t need to mark him to tell him apart. Luis was more like a playful puppy than anything else, frequently managing to sneak out of Antonio’s room to wander around Casita in search of belly rubs.
Then there was Belita, or Bela, depending on whether or not Antonio was telling her off. Like her mother, Chispi, she was very confident and snarky. However, lacked her mother’s chill. She was full of energy - if Antonio didn’t put her to bed with her siblings, he would be sure she never slept.
And lastly there was Milo, possibly Antonio’s favourite but don’t tell the others. Getting his brother’s name, he was exactly like him. Mischievous, loves food, and maybe a little too dramatic. Milo was good at making him laugh and, after everything, that is what he needed.
He assembles them all before bed, so that when Mama or Papa or both of them come to read his story, they are there too.
Abuela would happily spend time babysitting the four of them while Antonio was at school.
If they came into the kitchen, Tía Julieta would offer them scraps or spare food they could eat.
Tío Agustín had built a little wooden cart that Antonio could pull them around in.
Tío Bruno pretty much adopted them alongside his many rats, as the best pets/children ever.
It was another week later that Antonio got an idea.
“What are you doing, mijo?” His mother asked one day. It was just before dinner - table already set up, but nobody had called them to eat.
Then she noticed the extra chairs and plates that had been added to the table. And Antonio having placed each capybara on their namesake’s chair, which was stacked with pillows, so their heads just about reached the table.
“I thought they could join us for dinner!” He offered. “And Chispi is here too to watch them. I got her a spare chair all by myself.”
Pepa didn’t know what to say. “Is your Abuela okay with this?”
“Why wouldn’t she be? She loves them. I saw her cuddling Milo and Lola when I came home today. I think she likes them more than Tío Bruno’s rats.” He informed, happily.
“Well, but, you know what Tía Julieta is like with animals at the table,” Pepa tried again.
“I don’t think she’ll mind. It’s like having the family back together!”
Thunder rumbled.
“I was meant to ask Bruno something,” she excused herself, brushing through her braid as she walked off.
Antonio stood in silence.
He glances at Chispi, “Did I do something wrong?”
~~~~~~
It’s a silent night.
They are slowly coming out of mourning and adjusting back to normality.
Starting to work again.
The colours of black and dark blue and dark grey begin to fade away.
The eternal storm that Encanto has been wrapped in since September is slowly breaking away. Now it is just occasional spells of heavy rain and sleet.
Antonio has long since been put to bed, with the four capybaras.
The rest of the adults stay up.
What once would have been a night of some wine, a few cards games, music and laughter, is now just a solemn conversation in the candlelight.
They ‘um’ and ‘ah’ over what could have been.
Where and what the children are doing, now that they are no longer among the living.
“And the other one?” Agustín dares to ask. “Did anyone ever come for her?”
“Was she at least identified?” Félix inquires.
“No.” Alma answers. “The order was given for her to be buried today.”
Pepa tugs at her hair, shivering. “I can’t imagine it. A child. Just like the rest of them. Except in an unmarked grave, and not a soul to care.”
“Her poor family,” Bruno remarks. “My sympathy is with them.”
“No.” Julieta shook her head. “To let their child go… and they don’t even care. They either didn’t care to look in the first place or they couldn't recognise their own bloody child. It’s horrible. They don’t deserve any sympathy.”
“Julieta!” Her mother and brother both exclaim, in shock at her attitude.
All the family is, but Agustín and Félix are stunned into silence (not that they find a fault in her statement, it’s just unexpected for her), and Pepa is already nodding her head in agreement.
“I agree.” She said, turning to Julieta. “If it was one of our babies, I would have known instantly. Heartless people.”

hey guys, im probably over thinking this but i noticed this when i rewatched the breakfast scene in encanto
Tumblr media
(also i just noticed that antonio is sharing his seat with a baby capybara, thats flipping adorable)
Tumblr media
“i told them to warm up your seat”
so in the breakfast scene, antonio (the absolute sweetheart he is) tells abuela alma that he told a bunch of coati to sit in her chair in order to warm it up for her
now further into the movie when antonio invites bruno to do a vision in his room, there is also a bunch of coati in the spot bruno would be sitting
Tumblr media
(they werent there when bruno was pouring out the sand to create the circle so they must have hopped into that spot after bruno passed chispi the capybara since bruno comes into the scene from the left after he completed the circle and put down the bucket)
do you think antonio told them to warm up that spot for bruno?

Magical Boy Tournament: Round 4
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Entrant Propaganda:
Syaoran Li
syaoran on the other hand is my fave baby bi
His growth is very well done. He gets an emotional intelligence by clear card that's rare in anime boys
vote Syaoran he is in fact canonically bi and it blew my mind when i was 7 okay, plus he's really sweet and cute and he has an amazing character development through the series, and we talk shit about Touya picking up fights with a middle schooler all the time (as he deserves) but we need to talk more about the middle schooler who's totally ready to square up and steal his boyfriend... before dating his sister. like he's the most Guy ever i love him so much.
Syaoran's one of THE og magical boys and one of the more competent ones too
Syaoron didnt get dressed up as Sleeping Beauty in the school play to lose
Antonio Madrigal
He has a jaguar and his name is Parce, there is no better power than talking to animals, he's just small and I love him
EVEN BETTER!!! While to the best of my knowledge not officially confirmed, Antonio's most likely named his animals, as 'Parce'(his jaguar) is a Colombian slang term roughly equivalent to 'dude', 'bro', or 'mate'. Chispi, the name of his capybara, seems to come from 'chispita', which means something like 'sparky' or perhaps 'sparkles'. Finally, his toucan friend is named 'Pico', which literally means 'beak'.
