the suyeol lore is so crazy
#their relationship is so interesting to me like aoughhhh#like you see subaek and even tho they don't talk a lot on camera (most of the time) those two get along so well#they understand and respect each other so much they take their job very seriously and they're actually good friends as a result#suyeol on the other hand is 12 years of slowburn like it's crazyyyyy#you admire him and believe in him like no one else does and then you discover that he isn't that great actually#so you get disappointed and distance yourself and then you both are in this weird limbo for years as you grow up#and slowly but surely you rediscover how your relationship works because both of you are adults now and now we're here#like yeah suhito was stressed back then the context was not great for a leader AND tao was still with exo so lmao pcy could fend for himself#so i get ittttt they were going through it but. i need to know what he said to pcy like oh my god was it really that bad 😭#i wonder if they've ever mentioned it 🤔#writing this bc i just remembered that one time they had to describe e/o and suho was like#“you're my cute dongsaeng i admire your talents so much and oh btw you're not uncomfortable around me these days right? uwu”#LIKE ??? KING YOU CAN'T SAY THAT AND LEAVE US IN THE DARK#(<- they totally can it's not our business lmao)#idolization to tentative ''''enemies'''' to coworkers to friends to good friends is crazy#i need to look into this properly omg let's do some research#anyways i want a subunit :) they can be called exo sc too sehun won't mind bc these are like his favorite people in the world!!!#idk i find the exos and their bond so interesting because you truly have it all with them there's a whole spectrum of friendships#and i appreciate that it's not like with b*s & taegi (if you don't know who they are... let's keep it that way <3)#because those two were just too different to get along. it was extreme. but bighit forced it so much it was painful to see sometimes#and then the hawaii trip came and they painted it like a ''see? after this trip they get along so well now <3'' moment#1. girl let's be serious for a sec 😐 and 2. it's not our business!!!!! focus on making good music!!!!!#i'm so glad exo didn't have to go through something like that bc i just know that they'd have disbanded by now sjfsifjsk#the saranghaja sprite isn't that intense we lovr freedom of choice (keeping in mind that they were under sm) <33333#so YEAH. can you guys tell i can't sleep hehe :)#dara.t#suho and chanyeol

Artist’s Spotlight: The Unforgiving Minute
Tumblr media
Her manips are legendary in this fandom, even though not everyone knows the person behind them, the lovely @theunforgivngminute!
Have you seen this manip?
Tumblr media
Or this one?
Tumblr media
So read the interview and get to know more about this (hilarious) artist!
GT: Where did your username come from?
TUM: My username has pretty much stayed the same since I created my tumblr....and at the time I was reading Kipling and fell in love with the poem IF ("If you can fill the unforgiving minute. With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,. Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it") And I've loved it ever since.
GT: That's lovely. Tell us about your involvement with the show and the fandom. When did you first watch Shameless? What attracted you to Ian and Mickey's relationship?
TUM: I believe I entered the fandom right as season 3 was ending. I didn't know it at the time but I saw a gifset of the 'don't do this' wedding kiss and thought...awww look at these two boys at prom. This is probably a lovely and heartwarming story. Let's find out who Mickey and Ian are. And then they proceeded to destroy me for the next 8 years.I always go back to that original moment when I saw the gifset. Like everyone else has said, you could see the chemistry between Cam and Noel and the rest is history!
GT: Prom, oh my God! I wish! Lovely and heartwarming, oh dear! What a surprise! That remained my favorite kiss until the dock scene happened. They do have remarkable chemistry.
Did you join the fandom right away or did it happen gradually? Do you remember your first impression of it back then?
TUM: Oh no😅 you are gonna make me look through the archives. I would say I dipped my toe into the fandom with mixed success almost right away. I was just learning how to make fanvids at the time and was getting maybe 60 hits a video. (Which was still exciting back then I'm not gonna lie.)Then came the manips, followed by the Nook Series edits. I think it's no coincidence I felt more involved in the fandom after I started doing edits for Fanfics. It was just this wonderful loop of making manips for things that brought me joy, which also brought other people joy. I've never been very vocal in the fandom, but have always found it to be an inviting place that sparked creativity and positivity from day one.
GT: Your Nook Series is just incredible! How did you learn to make manips?
TUM: Why thank you! I have memories of when I was a kid, my Dad would do these 'manips' by cutting out two images and photocopying them together...this makes him sound like a serial killer, but that is the first memory I have of manipulating photos. It ended up being almost like a challenge growing up. Can I make this look real? Can I erase my ex-friend from our graduation trip to Hawaii pixel by pixel using Microsoft Paint? (You can, but it takes a lot of pettiness and spite.) So I was always doing some kind of work with photos, though not always in the most effective ways. Thank god for the discovery of Photoshop!
GT: Not a serial killer! Lol you're too funny. Well, you're really good at it for sure! So much so that I've seen some of your manips being mistaken for actual pictures...
TUM: I can't even begin to count the amount of hours I have spent working on manips at this point. I have planned. I have hunted for the perfect pictures. Spent days getting it right. And without fail the manip I spend an hour on, thrown together for fun, is the one that looks the most legit. Every time!! My most popular manip was done in an hour while watching a documentary to kill time. That's how it goes I guess. So it really is just luck when it comes together. Some manips hold up over time and some....do not. But I always enjoy seeing the progress and the process change over time.
GT: Do you find it funny when people think they're real pictures?
TUM: Oh I love it! I don't think there is any better compliment than to have someone ask 'what episode is this from?' 'How do I not know about this?' Being accused of witchcraft is always a positive in my opinion.
GT: Hahahaha And does it still bother you when you see it reposted somewhere without credit or did you end up getting used to it?
TUM: To be honest it never really bothered me all that much. Seeing my manips on mugs and t-shirts for profit was the only time I ever felt slightly annoyed. For me, it wasn't on the same playing field as a Fic you wrote from scratch or a piece of art you drew by hand. I didn't feel like I had as much 'ownership' of my final products as some other forms of art. If that makes sense? And this fandom was always amazing at getting artist credit and not letting anything slide. That was always lovely to see and very much appreciated.
GT: I'm glad it didn't bother you, because I have to admit it always bothers me lol. And it's very humble of you to say it's not on par, but I know making edits takes time and work too, and it should be appreciated. That's why credit is important, so we can go and thank the artist and appreciate them and their work. But yeah, doing it for profit is another level of wrong.
You don't make many manips for the Gallavich fandom anymore. Was that a conscious choice or do you just not have the time and/or motivation nowadays?
TUM: The simplest explanation is I became a cake decorator that wakes up at 4am. I am a night owl at heart and 90 percent of my work was made between 11pm and 4am. I also, like a lot of other people went through a creative slump after season 5 ended. I remember being half way through a video edit and just trashing it out of frustration after that finale. But mostly I just don't have the time I used to.
GT: A cake decorator! I love that! And I love that what you do for a living is also artistic. Yeah, that ending was just trash. Did you keep on watching after or did you just come back later when Mickey did (like I did)?
TUM: I got through two more episodes and realized all the things that I fell in love with about Shameless (Mickey, Mickey and Ian, the Gallaghers actually being a family unit) were gone. After that jumped on and off the bandwagon whenever Mickey showed up.
GT: Oh, so you watched one more than I did! What's your favorite season?
TUM: Season 4. No question! For the club kiss alone...it has to be my favorite.
GT: Is that your favorite scene of the show?
TUM: It's certainly the one that can still give me butterflies when I see it cross my dashboard. I remember reading a review of the episode back then and they described it as one of the most genuinely romantic moments on Shameless. And I have to agree.
GT: What are some others of your favorite moments?
TUM: Mickey yelling on top of a cop car after beating the shit out of Terry is up there. The entire wedding episode. " Sorry I'm late". Anything that had Mickey, Ian and Cole in the same scene. What I wouldn't give to see the extended cut of the proposal episode.
GT: What did you think of the ending?
TUM: I think as a fandom we had been burned more than once. I think we had two or three moments where we thought 'okay this is the last of ian and mickey' and then 'bam 'bam' oh never mind. So I saw the last two seasons as a bonus, honestly. I never thought we would get a wedding episode or watch them fight over apartments. So I was just along for the ride enjoying every minute of it. They were happy. So I was happy with the ending.
GT: I totally get the feeling. I remember when Noel returned for 9.06 and how surprised I was and how happy too, that at least they'd be endgame, even if we didn't get to see them together, then surprise! How do you imagine their future?
TUM: I see them continuing to expand the armed transport business After some years have passed building their own family. And I don't know if it's allowed but I always kind of wanted them to get out of the Southside. Though I imagine Ian might have to put some serious work in to convince Mickey to move to Florida😄
GT: Well, they did get out of the Southside in the end. I think you mean out of Chicago?
TUM: Let's say Illinois and cover all my bases! But yes, out of Chicago!
GT: I can't really see Ian going very far from his family, but I do wish they would. They do deserve a fresh start.
Tell us a bit about yourself now, please.
TUM: Let's see...how do I make it sound like I leave the house more than once a month? (I gave up. It's impossible) I am a cake decorator with two dogs. A Husky named Knox and a German Shepherd named Ronan. I was gifted power tools last year and my house now looks like a Pinterest nightmare. Just finished building built-in bookshelves because there can never be enough books! I have a completely normal amount of interest in True Crime. Which has resulted in me and my siblings monthly "Murder Night', where we play hunt a killer games. So, your standard dog lady who likes to read, build furniture and occasionally solve murders.
GT: That's all so interesting I'm forced to ask follow up questions.
TUM: Please do.
GT: First of, what are your dogs names, how old are they, and could you please spare some pictures?
TUM: Ronan is the German Shepherd. He just turned 3. Knox is the Huskey and he is 4. Puppies still really. They are the worst and I LOVE them so much.
Tumblr media
GT: Your dogs are so pretty, but yeah, I can imagine they'd be a bit of troublemakers too. Second, what are some of your favorite books?
TUM: My absolute favorite book is the “Poisonwood Bible'' by Barbara Kingsolver. Her writing style in that book is insane. I'm grateful my Dad handed it to me because I would never have picked it up based on the story alone. I read a lot of Nonfiction, so “Van Gogh the life” by Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith. That man was fascinating. He is my all time favorite unpleasant little man. Anything by Bill Bryson starting with “In a Sunburned Country”.
I think you've helped me discover that I gravitate more towards non-fiction than anything else. How odd.
GT: It makes sense though, seeing how artistic you are, that you'd like the biography of an artist. And I didn't know any of those authors, I'll have to google them! Thanks for the recs.
Third... I'm not sure what to even say about the "Murder Night", tbh, I just wanted to acknowledge it. What, pray tell, are "hunt a killer" games?
TUM: Murder Night...you pay a rediculous amount of money to have a box of 'evidence' shipped to your house and then try to solve the murder in 60 minutes. There is food, alcohol and the threat of us never speaking to each other again by the end of it. I highly recommend it.
GT: Ok, so Murder Night sounds awesome and I totally need to find a group of friends to do that with now!
Who are some of your favorite people in this fandom? Artists, writers, "just" fans, anything goes.
TUM: There is no Nook series without Sexual Harassment in the Workplace by @goodkwuestion. TIPDIG is one of, if not my favorite fic, in any fandom and still a comfort read for me. There isn't a single thing that I haven't loved from goodkwestion and would read their version of the phone book if it ever came to it. This goes for @gallavichy as well, who manages to hook you emotionally by the end of the first chapter one NO MATTER THE STORY. I'm counting down the days between each chapter just like everyone else. And last but not least, @steorie's art is some of my first memories when I joined the fandom. I had the artwork of Ian and Mickey in the snow as my wallpaper forever back in the day! There are so many talented people in this fandom and i'm so excited that, even with Shameless over, there is still so much quality material being created all the time.
GT: Those three really are god tier, I agree!
Is there anything you'd like to make for this fandom that you haven't got a chance yet? Or are you truly done for now?
TUM: I made a fanvid a long time back that chronicled their relationship from season 1 to season 5. I always wanted to do an updated version now that Shameless is truly over and I have the entire narrative in my head. But otherwise I'll keep making little things whenever I get the chance or inspiration.
GT: What about for other fandoms?
TUM: It takes quite a bit of doing to get me to start a project for any fandom now. Free time is hard to get these days, but I love creating. And when I do get those small pockets of time I hope to keep making things that make me happy. Even if I don't get to do it as much as I used to.
GT: I'm sure any fandom is lucky to have you. ❤️
Can you explain a bit of your process when making edits? Of any kind. 😊
TUM: My edits for Nook covers are usually always based on a specific scene from the fic. In those instances I go hunting for the right pictures to make that scene come together. I don't think there is a Noel or Cam picture before 2018 that I haven't seen at this point. Then I'll click around in photoshop a bunch until I end up with something I don't hate! Which is a horrible way to explain any process but that's the honest truth.
With video edits it's all about the song. Even now, I'll hear a song in the car that is perfect for them and build a video in my head as I'm driving home. Placing a scene based on a specific beat, lyric or swell in the music. I always wanted there to be a clear narrative for each video. The lyrics and scenes always had to compliment each other. I didn't want the song to just be a song in the background while I threw a bunch of my favorite scenes together. And hopefully that comes across when you watch the later ones.
GT: Hahahaha, click around Photoshop a lot. I know the feeling!
Which of your edits would you say you're the proudest of?
TUM: Well, I can't not mention the Ian & Mickey kiss on the cheek edit that still pops up every now and then.
Tumblr media
It is the most legit looking edit I ever made so I'm still proud of it. While I can only see the editing mistakes when I watch it now, I still have a soft spot for my vid 'What You and I Have'.
It was my first attempt at a relationship timeline and I was proud that I managed to get anyone to sit through a 7 minute video. There's the 'I'll always catch up to you' Mickey edit which was so simple to make but felt really powerful when it was done. And lastly a lesser known video called Final Hour that I could watch over and over because my ego knows no bounds.

GT: Thank you so much for agreeing to doing this. Leave a message to the fandom now. 😊
TUM: Thank YOU so much for dragging me out of my cave for a little while. I apologize for all the unnecessary commas. (I don't know where they go. I refuse to learn. There is a reason I made edits not fics.) It was so much fun to look back at some of my edits and all the beautiful art and fics this fandom has provided over the years. It's hard to believe it's been almost 8 years since my first edit and I'm grateful for every piece of feedback I received along the way. So I'll just be here in my little cave, looking forward to all wonderful edits and fics this fandom still has to offer. Thanks again!

NEWS FLASH: The family of the famous writer Y/N, died in a car crash on their way to the airport for a family trip to Hawaii. All four passengers are dead on arrival including the driver. The funeral will be closed and private, as per the writer Y/N’s request.
The sky has your favorite shade of orange when you arrived at the house. Home, you thought. Always the same big house that you grew up to. It’s been almost ten years since you step foot in this house and seeing it again for the first time made you regret every Christmas that you purposely missed just so you can avoid spending time with your family. And besides feeling that you’re home, you feel regret suffocating you. What was I thinking, you murmured. This house used to be filled with laughter and happiness. Nights where you and your family will watch TV together in the living room with all the lights closed, countless meals together and talking about random stuff while eating, drinking coffee with your mother, playing board games with your brother. But now, the house is filled with dust and despair.
The house feels cold and dirty but either way, it’s what you need. You would rather feel the emptiness of this big house and miss your family than be alone in your apartment. Maybe being home can make you write something worth reading for again, maybe being home will help you be alive again. Losing your whole family is a different kind of pain. The word ‘alone’ does not cover what you’re feeling right now.
It has been nine months since the accident but the sad news is still fresh in your heart that sometimes when you remember it, you just turned into stone and start crying out of nowhere. Thankfully, the town was understanding enough about what you’re going through in life. They were all careful not to make you remember your family’s death, and made sure to take care of you in ways that they can.
“I see some stores are closing? What happened to Miguel’s Ice Cream shop?” you asked Sophie, the owner of the small grocery store in town. You’ve known her since you were just a little girl, and your mother and father helped her grow her business.
“Well, since your father’s death there's this vampire family who’s been buying the whole town. One by one, Qian Properties. Offering money and immortality as payments” she says. The worry in her tone is quite evident as if she knew that vampires will soon knock on her store and offer her the same thing. Money and immortality.
After your family’s passing, the world has gone mad like they took every good thing from this world with them on their graves. Crazy how in nine months the things that are used to be fiction like vampires, are now the new normal. Everything happened so fast. Their kind grew and grew and now their population covers over almost 1/4 of the world. Vampires school, condominiums for vampires, hotel ran by vampires, humans being vampires. It’s crazy. But even though the world has gone mad, it doesn’t bother you because the pain that you’re dealing with right now is taking too much of your sanity.
As months slowly pass by, even though you hate writing right now, you still try and find your way back to loving what you used to do for a living. Writing was everything to you. There’s no greater feeling than sharing something you’ve created to the world, show it entirely, and watch the people love every bit of that thick thing we called a book. You lost your spark with writing when the accident happened and it changed your life. Everything you published became the talk of the world, people hating it and blaming what happened to your family. It was your darkest time. Losing your family and watching your career end.
You type, delete over and over again, and tried writing your feelings away until you see the sun setting again. A good reminder to call it a day. Then someone rang your doorbell. You quickly grabbed your robe and make your way downstairs, you see a man’s figure on the other side of the gate, wearing a nice suit, black trousers, and nice leather shoes.
“Good evening. I hope I did not interrupt you, I’m Qian Kun” he offered his hand for you to shake it which you accepted with a straight face. Qian. The family name of the vampires who are buying properties in this town and you’re not stupid to not know what he came here for. You wanted to shoo him away and tell him that you’re not interested in anything that he will offer. You have a lot of money and you don’t need immortality.
You crossed your arms and waited for him to talk more. “May I come in? I’m looking forward to this meeting for quite some time now” he says. You turned around and did not say anything but left the gate wide open. “Please” he added and he sounded desperate.
“Mr. Qian, I left the door open. What are you waiting for?”
“I- I suppose you don’t know that vampires cannot come in unless you invite them in” you didn’t of course.
“I’m sorry. I did not know. Please come in”
When you two settled in the living room, he started the conversation by introducing himself. You notice that he’s well mannered, polite, and careful with his words. He doesn’t sound fake like the monsters who pretend to care for you in the writing industry. Kun was straightforward without offending you, intimidating but not enough to make you feel small. He stated his intentions very clearly, “As a firstborn, I want my family to have a nice home. And this house is perfect. You will not be homeless, of course. We will find you a new house, cash, and immortality” he says.
You couldn’t agree more with what Kun told you. But the reason that he’s here to buy your house is something you can’t let him do. Even if he’s polite, nice, and handsome if you’re being honest. You can’t let him take away your home.
“It’s good that you love your family so much and you’re taking care of them. Something that I regret not doing” you take a sip from your coffee before you continue saying something that will bring you to tears, “are you aware that I lost my family, about a year ago?” you were calm when you said it, but it still hurt like hell. Admitting that they’re gone.
Kun was speechless. He felt like he ruined your peace and your time to mourn your family but most of all, it felt like he’s disrespecting you. “I’m sorry. I didn’t know” is all he can say.
“I have way too much money and I don’t want immortality. Thank you for your offer, but this is all I’ve got”
“I cherish my family too. I have a family and we don't have a home, you don’t have a family but you have a home. Be part of us, we can be your family”
You got offended, but still, there’s not enough reason to burst out and be hysterical. You gave him a small smile and shook your head, “Good luck finding a home Mr. Qian. I admire you taking care of your family”
The night ended coldly, both disappointed with personal reasons. Although he felt sorry about his visit, he still got his eyes on the prize. Kun will stand his ground and will try over and over again until you say yes to his offer. You, on the other hand, don’t know why you have a soft spot for the vampire even though he already offended you. Maybe it’s because you were moved for his honest reasons that you can’t let out your anger towards him even if you force yourself. He was just trying and finding his family a stable home, no need to get mad, you said to yourself.
As days go by, the vampire did not give up as expected. He continued his visit and greet you with the sweetest smile. He tried pursuing you, giving you flowers, bringing you books to read, chocolates, fruits, anything that crosses his mind that will try to change your decision. He was desperate for his family’s sake and it was obvious.
Sophie said that Qian properties chose this place because it’s far from the city. There’s a lot of trees and the neighborhood is peaceful. “That’s why he’s desperate. Your father made this town great. Don’t let that Qian family eat up of what your father built” she says sternly.
You walked alone to your house with a bag of take out, thinking of other ways to make your meal even more delicious. Since you’re alone in life, you don’t have someone to cook you a decent meal. When you were living alone in the city, you have your manager cook you good food. But now that you’re completely alone, you just have to make the best out of this take out.
“Hi” of course the vampire waited for you to come home. You smiled and let out a small laugh because both of his hands are carrying grocery bags.
“What are you doing? I have food and enough stocks for a whole family, and I live alone” It was a joke. You giggle and opened the gate, this time you did not forget to invite him in.
“That’s not why I’m here. I’m here as a friend a new vampire friend- Let me cook for you please, I need a friend”
Hearing him say those words made you think that Kun is a blessing in disguise. Finally, decent food. You don’t want to admit but having Kun’s company tonight made you feel happy. Not genuinely happy of course, but it’s nice to have someone to talk to. Surprisingly, he’s talkative but not annoying. The words that came out from his mouth made sense to the point that you’re learning new things from him. He was right, he’s here as a friend and not as a buyer of your house.
“Why do you want my house so bad?” you asked. Stirring the spaghetti sauce that he made.
“Hmm. I thought I’m here as a friend?” he smiles and refuses to answer your question. He looked handsome up close, but his unbelievably white skin is scary. It reminded you that he’s a vampire.
“Well okay, if you don’t want to answer that question. I didn’t know vampires eat. I thought you only drink blood from humans” you quickly changed the subject so he can feel comfortable.
“I love food and I love cooking. It’s my guilty pleasure. It doesn’t make me full, but if what I made taste good then I’m satisfied” he answered your question with a big smile. Proud and happy to talk about how he loves cooking.
For someone who doesn’t have a soul, Kun is a vampire full of life. You listen to him talk about the things he sees on TV and watches his eyes show you and tell you how he’s curious about the world. He’s well aware that there's so much you can do in a lifetime, he wanted to learn many things and go around the world. He’s almost more human than you are. “Well if you have all these dreams of yours why don’t you embrace life instead of living in the shadows for your family?” you hope he answers your question this time.
“My family is more important than my dreams and my wants in life. The things that I long for will forever be in this world, but my family can die anytime-“ he realized what he just said, “I’m- I’m sorry. I got carried away. Please- Uh, how’s the food?” he tried changing the subject but it was too late.
He’s right. Everything he said is right and you’re realizing it just now, “I wish I met you before my family died. Unlike you, I chose my dreams and turned my back against my family. And now I’m regretting it. Don’t worry, you didn’t offend me and the food is great. Really great” your tone was slowly turning sad and gloomy. The vampire was quick to be concerned but he can’t do anything to help you heal. So, he changed the mood and joked about offering you immortality and you argued with him and tried convincing him to embrace being human. It was a friendly debate that made him blush and your heart flutter.
Kun hates lying, even to himself. As he listens and watches you speak very closely while you drink your wine, he's slowly liking you and he's not afraid of what he's feeling right now. He loves how you talk about the things you've experienced already like he's listening to a book about wonders. You must be a great writer. The whole time you were talking about your first book to him, he was really impressed by your talent but he can't listen to you further. Instead, he just admired you closely.
Then he kissed you.
He noticed how your lips were plump and red because of the red wine and the kiss was something he can’t control because he wanted to do it. “I’m not sorry about the kiss, I wanted to do it” at least he was honest about what he feels. "Please continue your story" and so you did, but this time you were smiling from ear to ear.
Good things come to an end. You felt that you went out on a date with Kun when the night ended. You felt nothing but happiness, butterflies in your stomach, cheeks hurt because of too much smiling. He flashed those handsome dimples of his and waved goodbye to you. Neither of you wanted to end the night so early but he had to go home to his family.
The next day, while you were trying so hard to put what you feel into writing, you look over the window and hope to see Kun’s figure outside your huge gate. But no, he’s not there. Until the sun is finally setting again and the sky turned into your favorite shade of orange, you were disappointed but only for a short span of time.
The same thing happened for a week. You waited for the vampire to show up outside your gate, but he never did. Maybe he finally gave up.
One fine beautiful evening, you were reading the books Kun gave you while you enjoy a cup of warm tea then your doorbell rang three times that it almost sounded so desperate for attention. Finally, the figure that you’ve been meaning to see showed up. You welcome him in like an old friend and he greets you with an exhausted smile. He looked tired and dull you noticed.
“I’m sorry I didn’t show up for days” you haven’t seen each other for a week and the first words you heard from him are apologies. “I was busy running the family business” he clears his throat and sat comfortably on the couch.
“Which is?” you asked.
“Buying humans so my family name will forever live,” he said oh so cooly. Surprising you with honestly again that never bothered you. In fact, he continues to surprise you. “And looking for a new town to buy” he added. You noticed during your long walks that people in this town continue embracing immortality in exchange for their establishments and loyalty for Qian properties. It sounds complicated, their business, but really it’s not hard to understand. It’s like a normal business that buys and sells properties and a big company that needed a lot of staff. But for Qian properties, lives are involved.
“What happens to the people you turn to vampires?”
“Besides being rich, they will have a long life, my family owns them and as long as they live, they will work for my family. But I can assure you that their lives are safe. We don’t harm them, rather we help them adjust to this new life they swore to- How are you?”
His sudden concern for you caught you off guard that you smiled and became shy in front of him. He’s not here as a businessman again, he’s here as your friend, Kun. Whom you kissed and waited for his presence every day.
“I waited for you every day” he smiled at your honesty. But then, his smile slowly fades away. He holds his chest and pretends that he’s okay to not make you worry. “I’m not stupid you’re hungry. When was the last time you drank blood?” you brought him to your kitchen to give him a plate of raw steak. But he told you steak does not cover it. You were trying so hard to help him ease his hunger. Then you realized, you have blood.
“Try not to kill me? Or turn me?” you exposed your collar bones to him and standup in between his legs. He was sitting on the kitchen counter like a bored teenager with a bottle of water in his hand. He let out a cute laugh and fixed your robe.
“No. I can’t do that to you. I’m not here to ask for blood. I’m just tired and pressured because of my family. I just needed to see you” he smiled so sweetly again, making you fall in love with his gaze. Even though he’s tired and weak to the core he can still make your heart flutter.
“I’m not going to take no for an answer. If you don’t drink my blood, you can never see me again” it was a dangerous bargain but you had to try. You came closer to him, felt his cold skin, smelled his cologne, and hope that he smells your blood. It was a struggle for him and he enjoys your sweet torture. Until he finally gave in.
“Just one swig,” he says.
“That’s all I want to happen. Please, you look dead” you insist.
He took his time untying your robe, remove it from you and watch it hit the tiled kitchen floor. He kissed your neck like the gentleman that he is making you weak and let out soft moans. His lips are cold and it sends a shiver straight to your spine. Then he bit you. Drank your blood like he’s just kissing your neck. It felt like you’re high on drugs, everything kept spinning and the moment he stopped. You feel weak and he was quick to catch you with his strong arms. Kun kissed the part where he had bit you a few seconds ago and kissed you all the way from your collar bone, neck, chin, and finally your lips.
Everything turned slow. Like a moment being kept for safekeeping and no one dares to move too fast. Scared to ruin such a beautiful moment.
You took him to your room and there you two continued that beautiful moment. He watched you remove your clothes in between his legs as he comfortably sits on the edge of your queen-sized bed. Once you discarded all your clothes and exposed your bare body to him, his hands roam freely around your body. It’s his first time, he whispered. “I’ll try not to disappoint you” he promised.
While you help him remove his clothes, Kun learned to kiss your body. He was shy but you told him he doesn’t have to. He learned to kiss your chest, the valley between your boobs and your stomach. “Why are you avoiding my boobs?” you asked with a slight giggle, waiting for his lips to brush your perked nipple and make you shiver. He looked at you directly in the eye as he starts sucking your left nipple, then he turned to your right boob, and in a matter of minutes, he finally learned how to use his tongue. You gasped and breathed in deeply as you were just standing in between his legs, naked, shivering, and moaning at the things he’s been doing to you.
“You’re going to make me cum undone” you informed him. He stopped and leaned back, admiring your swollen nipples as if he’s proud of his work.
“Is that a bad thing?” he asked oh so innocently.
“No” you pushed him slowly to the mattress, “But I’d rather cum in other different ways,” you said. This time it’s your turn to kiss his cold body and let him experience the pleasure he’s been giving you. His low groans were music to your ears when you licked his nipples while you unbutton his pants and remove it swiftly leaving him only with his boxers briefs.
Given that this is his first time, you decided to stay on top tonight and take charge. You kissed his abs, feel it with your hands, and took time kissing his lower abdomen, making the vampire impatient and push his underwear down so your lips can finally make contact with his cock. You gave him his first blow job, sucking his dick slowly and pumping it over and over again until it’s really hard and thick. “I promise to give you a proper blowjob someday” you crawled on top of him until your wet folds are coating his cock with your pussy juices.
“I can get addicted to you, you know that?” he says and smiled before you reach for his lips to distract him as you line his cock to your entrance and slowly sink down on him. His reaction was something you will never forget, the sound that he made once he’s fully inside you. You intertwined your fingers with him before you roll your hips deliciously.
“Ready?”
“Yeah- Oh, ahh” he part his lips and did not get shy anymore as he continues to let out his moans and feel your warm walls around him. He pulled your body closer to him, wanting to never leave those beautiful lips of yours. You made his arms rest on your hips, as you bounce up and down on his cock with utmost care. There’s no need to go wild and crazy for tonight. Everything is perfect.
“I’m close” he admitted. But you didn’t stop moving your hips.
“Can you make me pregnant?” you cage his head with your arms, your face is close to him so you can nip his lower lip and kiss him every second.
“I can’t” he answers your question. There was a slight disappointment of course. But this is not the right time to think about having kids.
“What are you waiting for? Let go and cum inside me”
Kun did what you said and had the time of his life, enjoying his first orgasm from having sex. It doesn’t matter if you didn’t cum tonight, Kun’s cock felt great and that alone satisfies you. He didn’t let you go for some time, you stayed on top of him as he continues to kiss and talk to you while he still enjoys your warmth.
Soon, you lay beside him and covered you with your clean thick sheets. You talked some more, about things that are intimate and are for the two of you only. You never felt so happy being in the arms of a… vampire. You felt alive again but you don’t say it out loud, you just wanted to bask at this moment with Kun and feel the happiness flood your heart.
“How are you feeling?” you asked. Maybe he needed more blood?
“I’m feeling just fine. Thank you. And I’m not talking about the sex and your blood. Thank you for letting me in your life” he was holding your hand while drawing small circles using his cold thumb.
That night, you two slept really late and talked more about life and the things you wanted. You learned that the two of you are very different from each other but you’re ready to love him deeply and he’s ready to take great risk for you too. And you think the beauty of loving someone so different from you is a different kind of great love.
Kun’s cold figure still hugs you tightly when you wake up the next day. The morning light hits his skin perfectly that he shines effortlessly. “fuck” you muttered and quickly tried getting out from his cold embrace to close the curtains. But he tugs you even closer to his body making you panic even more, “are you hurt?”
“No” he kissed you good morning and sweetly requests, “can we stay a little bit longer like this? I still don’t want to face the day”
You raked his hair away from his face and gave him his morning kisses, “we can stay like this forever” you said.
“Does that mean you’re accepting immortality?-“
“That’s not what I meant”
“Oh”
Even so, being human and vampire in a relationship did not stop you two from loving each other without bounds. Every day has been nothing but happiness with Kun even though you both have your own disappointments with yourselves. You’re disappointed with writing, he’s disappointed with his family’s business. Every bit of the relationship was not easy but you two chose to be happy together every day and face each day together.
He starts calling your house his home because you are his home and you don’t mind him calling you that. It makes you happy. Every day, when the sky turns to your favorite shade of orange, Kun will ring your doorbell and you will welcome him home with kisses and warm hugs.
Soon, you two became confident about telling each other everything about your family. And for the first time, talking about them didn’t make you sad, but rather happy because you can share that part of your life with Kun who listens to every word you say attentively. He told you that his mom was the one who told him to give you books to read, give you flowers and treat you with respect. His stories about his family make you want to meet them someday. It will not be easy but, “We will get here eventually”
Speaking of eventually, he finally learned how to fuck after a few nights of making love with Kun. He finally became confident in bed, making you moan his name over and over again. Memorizing every inch of the places you loved being touched the most. Oh, he’s a fast learner and a great one if you’re being honest to the point that night after night you grip the sheets so hard because he was fucking you good.
Perfect. Everything is perfect.
“Good morning” you greet him with loving kisses as always before you make your coffee. He’s still shirtless and just wearing his pajamas while he makes breakfast. You hugged him from behind and enjoy his cold skin on a beautiful warm morning. “Can we stay like this forever?” you asked, hugging him tightly.
“Is that a yes for immortality?” he’s serious when it comes to ‘immortality’ but it never annoyed you because it’s his love language. You understand him.
“I want to be with my family, Kun” you bit his shoulder playfully and placed soft kisses after. He loves it when you do that.
“And I don’t want to watch you die,” he asked for a kiss on lips, which you gave happily.
“Why are we having this conversation?” you roll your eyes.
“You’re right. I love you, I’m sorry”
See. Push and pull. And it’s a decision that one day you’re going to face and not even ‘i love yous’, ‘i’m sorry’, hugs or kisses will solve that problem for you. Someday he will not joke about it. And you’re scared because the question is, family or Kun?
During the day, you kept thinking about the conversation you had with Kun before breakfast. It made you think hard and ran through every loophole. You imagined life without Kun, you imagined him watch you die in a hospital bed, and you imagine not being with your family ever again. Every decision broke your heart.
When Kun finally came home, you try shrugging the thought of making a decision one day and admire your boyfriend as he is about to prepare you dinner.
Having a very handsome vampire in your kitchen cooking you good food is definitely one for the books. It’s like watching a live cooking show and you’re the only audience who can taste what he’s cooking. The way he walks around and smiles at you from time to time is making you feel things you shouldn’t be feeling. Heck, even watching him sprinkle salt and pepper, chop the peppers, and squeeze some lemon is making your heart jump.
Such a waste.
All these talents for singing, great skills at the kitchen, handsome face… And yet he chose to live in darkness. You have nothing against the vampire, he didn’t choose to be born as a bloodsucker, but he did choose to serve his family. His number one mistake, honestly speaking.
“If you’re not a vampire, what would you want to be?” you asked him bluntly, sipping on your wine while you watch him cook. “I hope you know that you’re talented and that if you embrace being a human you can be many things. For starters, you can be a cook at a famous restaurant or a pilot”
“Are we seriously having this conversation?” he chuckles, turns off the stove and faced you, leaning on the kitchen counter, looking handsome as ever, “Do me a favor and imagine yourself being 200 years old still looking young and beautiful. Or being happily married for hundreds of years. With me” he left a kiss on your forehead and goes back to plating the food.
The words ‘happily married’ doesn’t sound so bad.
“So you’re telling me that if we stayed like this, vampire and human, and I’m finally old and wrinkly, you won’t love me anymore?” you tease him, not letting him know that the idea of being married affects you.
“Why can’t we have a normal dinner without being on each other’s throats? Come on let’s eat. Grab the wine please,” he offered his cold hand to help you come down from the stool and go together to the dining area.
Before eating he did notice you were spacing out, he puts down his spoon and fork and reached for your hand. “Look at me,” he says, “Vampire or not I’m going to marry you and we’ll live happily together”
“You promise?”
“I promise. Now, come on eat. Tell me if it’s delicious, I just learned this from the cooking show I’ve been watching”
The constant push and pull continued. Your relationship has always been a never-ending convincing each other to be something you’re not. But ever since you let Kun in your life happiness is present in your life again and you’re worried that maybe someday that happiness will be taken away from you again. Kun is literally the reason why you smile first thing in the morning and sleep peacefully at night.
After having dinner and you two are ready for bed, you can’t stop thinking about the conversation you had this morning. The decision you’ve been thinking about has been running in your mind the whole day but there's another thought that’s been bugging you all along and you’ve been wanting to ask Kun.
“Can you really not die?”
He must be tired. He closed his eyes and kept you close. You wait for his answer but it seems like he doesn’t want to keep the conversation. Then he looks at you, “I can. I just have to be careful. I can die like how humans die except for dying at old age” he explains and you don’t want to pry further. “I'm scared of dying, you know. There’s so much I want to do in my life even before I met you. But since then I became even more scared to death. This world holds everything important to me, my family, and you. I can’t die” he answered your question honestly of course.
The next day, Kun woke up before you because he’s been planning to do something lately but can’t execute his plans correctly. He was about to do it last night but you asked him a heavy question so he didn’t have a choice but to set aside his intentions first.
He carefully opened the bedside drawer and reached for the tiny object inside. Since he doesn’t know anything about romance, he doesn’t know how to propose beautifully to you. So he went for something he’s confident with. Honesty. He grabs your hand and slips the ring on your finger, carefully but his movements still woke you up.
Any girl would freak out seeing her boyfriend propose to her the moment she opens her eyes in the morning. The diamond is quite big and it made you gasp. Not that you cared about the rock but the fact that Kun just proposed to you the moment you wake up is just enough reason to panic.
But he made a ’Shh’ sign that made you follow him and kept yourself quiet. You feel your heart thumping and beating so fast at this moment that you want to burst out of happiness already but Kun is calm in front of you. Just calm.
“Listen” all you hear are birds chirping and comfortable silence, “peaceful right?” you nod your head, “Let’s never break that peace in our relationship. I don't know how to make things easier for us but let's start with, no more push and pull. Last night I promised you that vampire or not, I’m gonna marry you and this is me keeping that promise. I would rather watch you die at old age, wrinkly and weak than lose you” He kissed your hand, and the panic that you’ve been savoring is long forgotten. Instead of screaming your lungs out because of too much happiness, you kissed each other and engraved that beautiful moment in your hearts.
And because you and Kun have been living together for quite some time now, you’ve become the talk of the town. Everyone thought that Kun is keeping you hostage and is only using you to get the house and to get the whole town. Even though he has been really successful in buying lives lately and earning the people’s loyalty in this town, the ones who strongly refused Kun’s offer is now making a plot behind his back.
A plot where they plan to kill him and save you. They’re just waiting for the perfect timing to strike the vampire.
“He’s just using you to get the house. Of course, he had to marry you so he can have legal rights to your house. Trust me, that vampire will leave you” Sophie hated Kun so much that when you told her that you’re engaged she didn’t take it lightly. The old woman shoos you out of her store and told you to be smarter. It’s sad how she can’t see that you’re really happy with Kun.
When you got home from grocery shopping, you wait for Kun to arrive before you leave him for one night to meet your manager back to the city. It pains you to be away from Kun. It’s like there's this magnet that’s keeping you near him and stopping you from leaving the house but finally, you finished a good book. All thanks to Kun. Your manager wanted to meet you so you can work on the details and finally, go back to the world and show everyone how you’ve been.
“The city is great. You sure you don’t want to come? There's a lot of vampires in the city-“
“And my fiance is a famous writer. Who’s about to have her come back to the industry that she loves. I don’t want to give you a problem before you can even go back out there. People will not take it lightly if they see you with me” he kissed you and hope that you will not argue with him further.
“But we just got engaged. I don’t want to be away from you” you pout like a little girl.
“Well then come home soon” he smiles sweetly to you and finally made you stop your whining.
Leaving home never felt so wrong. But you realized, he’s right. You just have to come home soon.
When you were back in the city and in the familiar office of your manager, you can’t help but feel out of place. Is this really what you want? Because if your manager agrees to publish this new work of yours, that means you have to leave home again. You have to leave Kun and live in the city. Something you think you can’t handle. It's like making the same mistakes again.
“I love it! You’re back- amazing work. I have to meet this vampire that you’re talking about. The one who inspired you to write this beautiful masterpiece. Ugh! Welcome back!” he exclaims excitedly. But his approval did not make you excited or anything. You’re happy of course, but you’ve been thinking about coming home and telling Kun the good news.
“Are we done here?”
“Uh- yes, bu-“
“Great. Call me if you need anything. I have to go home now. Thank you” you shake his hand and bid him goodbye. You were quick to get out of there and head home already. The plan was to stay the night in your old apartment, but you can’t. You really can’t. It’s almost 3 in the morning and Kun must be sleeping already because he hasn’t answered your calls. You drove excitedly while playing with the ring on your finger, thinking about how to spend the following days with Kun as an engaged couple.
When you finally arrived in town, people in their sleep wears welcomes you in the street. But their faces looked worried and concerned. What’s happening, you murmured. Since a lot of people are blocking the street you decided to get out of the car and check what’s happening.
“Y/n… the house….” someone shouted.
“My house?” you ran as fast as you can to see what they’re talking about. Hoping that everything is fine and that Kun is safe and not inside the house.
Then you see it.
It was your favorite shade of orange. Eating your house, ruining your home. You watched the house burn and you never thought that watching it will make you hate something you used to love ever since you were just a kid. You wanted the bright colors to fade. Your hands are shaking as you call for help. Screaming at the top of your lungs as people try to stop you from running towards your house.
“Kun!” you screamed and asked for him but no one is answering you.
Sophie tried to make you listen to her while you push everyone away. “I’m sorry. We had to do this. The town was slowly dying and turning into a vampire town. Y/n! He will leave you in the end or worst, he will change you” she was apologizing but you didn’t want to listen to her anymore. You slapped the old woman and tried to kick her with all your might but the people are quick to stop you.
The fire spread so fast that Kun didn’t have time to save himself. He tried calling for help but the lines were already cut. It’s obvious the fire was planned. He was trying so hard to escape death, coughing and covering his mouth, crying while he bangs through the door that seems to be locked from the outside. I don’t want to die. He repeats over and over again, thinking about his family, his brothers, and of course you.
But he couldn’t go out. He banged through the door until his last breath and strength but it did nothing. Soon the fire ate him and all he can do is scream through the pain, cry, and accept death.
The next thing you know, you’re at the hospital. You see your manager sleeping on the couch. Tears started falling but you don’t know why. On top of that, your heart feels heavy. It’s a familiar feeling, you thought. Like when the news that your family died reached you.
Then you see your ring. And suddenly you understand why you started crying out of nowhere and why that familiar feeling of losing someone is back.
Kun is dead.
And once again you’re back to rock bottom but this time you don’t have a home or a place to help you heal.

--------Olive---------
“Oh my god, I can’t breath” Olive giggled, crumbling into Eliott’s lap. Her husband smiled down at her gently playing with her hair.
“This is serious Olive!” Eliott said, his smile melting away to a very strained serious one. His dark brown eyes studying her face, “it’s the greatest story ever told. Guy dates a woman, woman’s ex is a mob boss who is involved in an illegal fashion, mob boss’s daughter almost gets killed. Now the guy must use his skills from the years of being in the other four movies to get revenge on his girlfriend’s daughter’s father. Tale as old as time “
“I’m just saying they should have killed the guy and the daughter could have gone full ninja killer and taken out her father and his gang.” Olive giggled, wiping her eyes from the tears of laughter that had been rolling down her cheeks.
“That would probably have been a better movie… but would it also have bad dummy shots?” her husband asked.
“Of course” sitting up inspiration struck, “I have an idea!” Eliott watched her as she sat straight up. “You write the action and I will write the romance.”
“How much romance will there be if the daughter is 12 years old.”
“Well romance and character stuff.” she shrugged, “And you can add in all the poorly done dummy blow-ups you want.”
“I will,” Eliott said nodded, “But only if I can use sex dolls.”
“Like, Hard Ticket to Hawaii? Oh, wait! Now hear me out” Olive giggled scooting up so she was now straddling her husband taking his hands in her own. A goofy smile spread across Eliott’s face as he weaved his fingers into her own.
“Oh are we at the wait stage of drunk Olive?”
“Shhhh” she giggled leaning forward slightly brushing her nose on his, “But really, this is serious.” Cleaning her throat for dramatic effect she continued, “a Hard Ticket to Hawaii Death Wish 4 crossover.”
“Oh girl,” Eliott said, his voice hitting a higher pitch on his girl . Olive giggled pushing herself forward so she was resting on his chest.
“I love you.”
“No way really?” Eliott gave a fake gasp  “That’s sooo weird because you know what? I love you too”

“ So just be ready,” Kirishima said, prepping the gang, “She’s… the same but different. ”
The group nodded in unison, game faces ready for whatever was coming. And that something was slowly walking toward when in the form of Bakugou and Olive.
Right off the bat it was obvious something was off. While they were holding hands it looked unnatural. Bakugou’s shoulders were hunched and he seemed to be looking anywhere but at Olive who was talking in the city as if she had never walked down this street before. Her large hazel eyes taking in everything, mouth slightly open.
“Olive! Bakugou!” Kirishima said, waving. At the sound of his voice, Olive looked up and waved, a smile on her face as she looked over at the group of others standing with them. Her eyes intently taking everyone in as if searching for something that wasn’t there
“ Hello! ” she said as they both stood there awkwardly. Hands had been let go and now hanging at their sides. Limp as if unsure what to do.
There were a few more awkward nodes before Kirishima led them all inside toward the balcony seating, their usual stop. “T his place is amazing! ” Olive said looking around her eyes wide as she took in the atmosphere. Everyone froze as the blissfully unaware woman turned to her husband, “ How did you find this place Katsuki? ”
“ I didn’t, you did,” he said as everyone around him winched slightly. The awkwardness was so thick you could almost taste it, and it didn't taste good.
“Oh.” her voice soft as she bit her top lip looking down at her purple painted nails. She had found her polish that morning and had decided to try out the fun colors.
There was a long pause when Mina spoke up, “How’s Clare and Lilly and the others? ”
Olive blinked looking up, “ You know the girls? ”
“ Yeah, we have wine and Rupaul's Drag race nights. I think the last one we did was about a month ago wasn’t it? ” the last statement, more of a question than a comment.
“Uhhh” Olive shrugged unsure how to respond
“ She doesn’t remember it ” Kaminari mumbled to the little pinked haired girl. And again there was a lapse of awkwardness. Turning to Momo from across the table Olive pointed to her shirt.
“ I love your shirt so cute! ” she said, stumbling slightly over her words. Momo lit up pointing to the shirt that Olive had gotten Momo for the hero’s birthday. The words “Females are strong as hell” in English was written in script across the chest. She had gotten it because she always told Momo, who was the 4th hero and number 1 female, that she was the most badass out of everyone (and that ranking didn’t mean shit). Also, they were both addicted to “Unbreakable Kimmy Shimitt”
“Thank you, I’m Momo '' the dark-haired hero said, noticing how much Olive was struggling trying to piece together who was who. Before they had come Momo and her fiancee Shoto Todoroki had decided to treat her like they had met for the first time. “ and this is Shodo, my fiancee .”
“I’m Mina! ” Mina said quickly and everyone else followed suit with a quick round of introductions.
“Yeah, I have pictures ” Olive lit up at the introduction. “The fair.”
“What picture did you have ?” Momo asked, leaning forward.
“This one of the fair? ” Olive said, holding up the phone leaning over the table to hand her the phone. Watching them Kirishima chuckled leaning toward Bakugou.
“Why are they across the table from each other?”
Bakugou shrugged, rolling his eyes, not shocked by the poor seating choices. After coordinating this whole night was he really now in charge of seating as well?
“Oh, that was so fun. ” Momo smiled looking at the photo. Memories of her trip to the US where Olive had given her the grand tour.
“ Oh is that the American Fair? What other pictures do you have? Do you have the one from when we all went to that spa? Do you have the one of us in those masks making the peace sign? What about... ” Mina was bursting with questions going way too fast for Olive to keep up. The poor girl’s smile looked slightly strained as she tried to look like she was understanding more than every other word from the excited pink haired girl.
“You’re going to fast for her! ” Bakugou barked out noticing the very overwhelmed look in his wife’s eyes, “ She's still learning .”
“Oh sorry Olive” Mina whispered looking down at her hands feeling her face flush.
“Don’t yell at her.” Olive said good naturally in English nudging Bakugou playfully with her shoulder. The blonde looked like the wind had been knocked out of him her words cutting him harder than he wanted to admit. “Which picture did you want to see Mina?”
Before the pink girl could respond the waiter came up to introduce herself and take drink orders.  A look of desperation came over Olive’s face as she looked down at the menu. Anxiety quickly flooded her system. The social pressure of trying to be normal while navigating a language she was still learning was extremely stressful. And this was besides the fact she had no idea what was good here or what she would like to order. Did she had a regular drink here? If so, what was it?
Desperately she looked down at the Japanese characters as if they would suddenly jump out and give her all the answers.
A large hand slammed over the menu making Olive lookup. Bakugou’s intense red gaze met her hazel one.
“I’ll order for you,” he said softly in English, more of a statement than an offer. His red eyes studding her as if reading all her thoughts. She smiled softly at him making him flush slightly looking away from her to the waiter ordering quickly.
“Thank you” she whispered, her hand gently brushing against his arm. Her fingertips leave a trail of goosebumps in their wake. It felt like her touch was fire.
Quickly he rubbed his arm as if he could put out the flames that were licking at his skin.
Fuck. He had it bad.
“Yeah well you looked so lost.” he grumbled looking away turning to Kirishima who was intently watching the conversation with the most annoying smile on his face. “ What are you looking at? ” Struggling Kirishima’s annoying smirk didn’t fade but he offered no explanation for his expression.
Typical.
Lucky for Bakugou the conversation shifted to other things. Work, life, weird food Kaminari had tried last week on his trip to Bermuda.
Olive quickly picked up her conversation with Momo about the place she was looking into for her wedding and life in general. Since they were - as Kirishima had pointed out- sitting across the table from each other, Olive had to basically lean up over the top of the table to shout of the music that was playing in the background.
Bakugou couldn’t help but frown watching as his wife literally looked like she was crawling over. Her eyes bright as the two talked. It was the most enthusiastic she had been in a long time.
“If you want to be with her so bad go sit over there, ” he said, it came out much harder than he had meant it to be. But he was annoyed and sometimes -ok most times- had a hard time masking his emotions. Olive blinked looking up at him confused for a moment before getting up from her seat moving over - much to Momo’s delight- to sit down next to her. He could see her pulling out her phone probably to show off pictures of Dolemite. Or maybe to ask more about the people who littered it. He could tell she felt awkward about asking him those questions. Knowing it hurt.
But also he wanted her next to him. To feel her next to him. To know she was still there with him.
“ OMG I love this song !” Mina squealed as a song came on.
“ Let’s dance, ” Momo said, getting up knowing Olive loved to dance. Normally she was the one dragging the girls onto the floor. At the promise of dancing Olive lit up as she stood to follow them. However before she left she glanced over at Bakugou, as if checking in with him.
“Why are you looking at me? Go!”
Olive flashed him a wide smile before following the girls into the crowd. The other two girls grabbed her laughing as they swayed with the music. Not having to talk just laughing and enjoying each other’s company. The universal girl code of good music and alcohol.
Three songs later and she was slowing down, taking a moment to breathe looking around the dance floor.
And that was when she thought she saw him.
Long blonde hair pulled up in a man bun. A basic flannel shirt, on the shorter side with broad shoulders leaning on the bar, his back to her.
Eliott
Her brain zoned in on it, for a second she forgot he was dead. Forgot he was gone.
That first month after his death she saw him everywhere. Heard his laugh. Sensed his presence. Slowly it had gotten better. His presence slowly fading from the bright sun of the day to the dark of night or in those first moments when she was waking up. And even more recently his presence had slowly faded. Her brain too busy trying to understand this whole new life she was living to focus on the loss.
But as the man turned and she saw it was clearly not him something washed over her. Hit her right in the face crushing her inside.
She didn’t even realize she was crying until Momo came up and hugged her.
“What happened?” she whispered in English as Olive raised her hands to her face trying to stop the tears. But they wouldn’t stop. Her chest so heavy it felt like her whole body was filled with sadness and the only way out was through her tears.
“I just… I thought… I saw Eliott.” she hiccuped, “I’m sorry… I’m sorry.”
“Why are you sorry?” Momo asked, frowning as she studied Olive. Mina, whose English was not as good, hovered around them both rubbing Olive’s shoulder trying to understand what had happened.
“I just… can't stop crying.” Olive sobbed trying to take deep breaths to gain control of herself.
“It’s been a lot for you.” Momo said, “come here” she hugged the girl for a moment before pulling away.
“ It’s ok to miss someone. ” Mina said, holding out a napkin she had grabbed from the bar.
“Yeah and for you it’s been very recent.”  Monmo added nodding
“I just feel guilty… Katsuki.” Olive fumbled through the words trying to explain all the emotions that were swerling like some muddy concoction in her chest.
“ Oh Bakugou can get over it. ” Momo said, waving her hand trying to keep her words simple so both girls could understand what she was saying, “ he gets all moody but he really cares about you. ”
“ Yeah, the first time I met you he was so… relaxed. ” Mina said, trying to find the right words, “ None of us had ever seen him that way before. ”
“ He was happy. ” Momo nodded, “ He will be fine, you need to focus on yourself.”
From across the bar Bakugou had lost sight of where the girls had gone. The crowd was getting thicker and thicker as the night had dragged on. He knew Olive would be safe with Momo and Mina there but still, he wanted to make sure she was ok.
And then he caught a glimpse of them. Standing at one of the far corners of the dance floor. Momo and Mina standing over Olive, hovering around her with concern on their faces. For a moment Mina moved and he could see Olive clearly, holding a small white napkin wiping her eyes.
Shit.
“ Hey bro where are you ?”
“ Just drink your beer. ” Bakugou interrupted Kirishima as he quickly made his way to the dance floor. Momo’s eyes met his and she shook her head but he didn’t care. Olive wasn’t Momo’s wife, she was his. They were supposed to be distracting her, not reminding her about her memory loss.
“Hey,” he said, reaching out for her. Olive turned eyes wide, still slightly glassy from her tears. Her makeup smudged. “Dance with me.” pulling her away from the girls who looked like they were about to protest. But one death glare from Bakugou told them not too.
He led her across the floor, his red eyes studying her as she took a few shaky breaths. Trying to compose herself. After a few moments her body slowly relaxed letting him lead as he felt her slowly lose herself in the music again.
“You dance?” she asked looking up at him.
“Depends.” he said shrugging
“Humm” she hummed, nodding like Eliott was what she was thinking. Eliott Eliott Eliott. Even Momo got more out of her than him. He felt like she was more comfortable around everyone but him. “You know” she said leaning forward resting her head on his chest catching him off guard. “I like to be with you too.”
He froze, his stomach clutching tightly, his breath coming out in a short gasp. She looked up at him with those hazel eyes studying him. “What you said about Momo, I like being with you too.”
“I heard you the first time” he said sharply only to soften quickly.
“I… I obviously liked being with you before or I wouldn’t have married you.” she added a genuine grin spreading across her face.
“That would make sense.” He said nodding as they swayed in the music both caught up in their own thoughts. Eyes meeting, dancing in the lights overhead. For a second it felt as if time stood still and Olive was sworn she wasn’t in real life but in some weird musical romcom. As if her whole life was some televised novel filled with hi-jinks and drama.
Caught up in the moment Bakugou gently leaned forward, his nose brushing hers before pausing. Her heart leapt into her throat at the soft intimate touch. Crimson eyes searching hazel for a moment before moving closer, his warm breath caressing her ear.
“Let me kiss you?”

𝐓𝐗𝐓 𝐈𝐌𝐀𝐆𝐈𝐍𝐄: going on summer holiday.
song ; budapest by george ezra
Tumblr media
「 𝐘𝐄𝐎𝐍𝐉𝐔𝐍 」
His choice destination was Alberta, Canada. This boy is quite energetic, of course, he decided to take you skiing! Honestly, he just wanted to see you in the snow, he thought you’d look like an angel. Naturally, he was correct, he whipped his camera out as soon as he saw snow land on you.
Tried competing with you to see who could ski down the mountain the quickest, but you were too cute, so he didn’t let you lose. His competitive nature was tossed out the window as soon as he saw you bundled up in all your winter gear, he immediately cooed.
Every night was spent cuddled in bed, warming each other under the comforter, him pressing delicate kisses along your back.
After each day spent in the snow, you both would walk to a local cafe and drink an absurd amount of hot chocolate... extra whipped cream and chocolate drizzle, of course. He’d always get cream on his nose and you’d wipe it off gently, but not before planting a quick peck on his lips.
Sure, the vacation spot was cold, but all you felt was warmth from the love he radiated for you.
「 𝐒𝐎𝐎𝐁𝐈𝐍 」
He’s quite laid back, naturally, when you both chose a vacation spot, it had to be a beach so you both could relax, so he decided on Krabi, Thailand.
Soobin loved sleeping in, wrapping his strong arms around your waist as the sound of your soft breathing and ocean lapping against the shore lulled him to sleep.
He also loved laying in the sand with you, the sun hit your skin beautifully, you looked absolutely ethereal. If you weren’t reading a book, basking in the sunlight, then you were swimming in the ocean, getting flustered by a shirtless Soobin, something he found adorable.
You both loved the relaxing aspect of the beach, but also being able to explore Thai culture! The temples were stunning and the history behind them was even more fascinating, it never failed to capture your attention. Though he thought you looked radiant standing amongst the vibrant gold and red of the architecture.
Street food was an absolute must on your trip, the crowded streets were always filled with exotic fruit, sugary desserts, and savory snacks. He loved feeding you sweet mango, catching the juice as it fell down your chin, giggling as he did.
Both you and Soobin loved the vacation as it was much needed. The blend of relaxation and exploration was absolutely perfect. You couldn’t wait to return.
「 𝐁𝐄𝐎𝐌𝐆𝐘𝐔 」
If there’s a place he knew you’d both love, it’s Sydney, Australia.
He was there to spend quality time with his beloved, possibly pet a koala, even though you told him it’d be unlikely, surf, and fight anything poisonous that came after you or him.
His favorite part of the trip was the day you both walked around Sydney Harbor, sipping on iced coffee and talking about everything as the gentle sea breeze kissed your skin.
It was truly a trip of discoveries. He found out he’s not great at surfing, like, at all, but he really just enjoyed swimming in the ocean with you, splashing around and quickly kissing you before you could splash back,
He took you to Rottnest Island to photograph the friendly quokkas and he couldn’t help but coo over how adorable they were. Truth be told, he found you much cuter... he ended up taking more selfies with you than them!
The trip was more relaxing than anything, he loved being able to sleep in with no set schedule. He especially enjoyed watching you snuggle into his chest at night.
No, he didn’t get to pet a koala, but that was fine by him because he got to fall deeper in love with you.
「 𝐓𝐀𝐄𝐇𝐘𝐔𝐍 」
He thought Paris, France would be the perfect place to bring you. The city is a perfect mixture of history, art, music, food, and love. Though a bit cheesy, he wanted to take the love of his life to the City of Love.
He took you all over the city, starting with Lourve, then the Eiffel Tower, and then to Versailles. At the end of each day, you’d walk hand-in-hand along the Seine and he’d buy a pretty flower for you from a street vendor.
He made countless remarks about how your beauty outdid any painting in the city. You blushed every time, hiding your face in his chest as he giggled, placing light kisses to your forehead.
Breakfast was your favorite part of the day since you’d eat on the balcony of your hotel room. The combination of french pastries and Taehyun’s arms around your waist always made for a fantastic morning.
He made sure to take you out one night just to listen to a street busker and dance to the music on the cobblestone. He loved holding you as you swayed softly to the distant, whimsical melody.
Long story short, your vacation was magical and full of love, culture, and beauty.
「 𝐊𝐀𝐈 」
This sweet boy wanted to visit his hometown, so you went to Honolulu, USA! Naturally, he wanted you to tag along! It was a big, important milestone in your relationship as it was the first time you ever traveled together, and it was the first time he traveled without the group.
You swam with Manta rays and he definitely freaked out when one swam too close to him, but he overcame his fear as soon as he realized they were friendly and cute. He was so soft, he couldn’t stop petting them! He also adored watching you interact with them, it made his heart burst.
He was so adamant about trying Hawaiian pizza in Hawaii, like he wrote it on his bucket list and he was excited to scratch it off. His smile was so big when he finally ate the pizza, you couldn’t help but snap a photo to look back on.
You both flew around the major island, visiting a large volcano site. Obviously, he knew it wouldn’t explode, but he couldn’t help but clutch protectively onto your arm. “Don’t worry, Y/N! I’ll always protect you, that volcano is going to have to go through me!” — Kai, immediately before kissing your nose.
Every single night was spent walking around the beach, searching for pretty rocks and shells — each time he found something of worth, he’d show it off proudly. He also loved searching the sand for crabs running around, he thought they were tiny and adorable.
Your vacation was everything you expected it to be: fun, exciting, and full of love.

wordless pt.3
Tumblr media
jeon jeongguk / reader genre: hitman (john wick au), sugar daddy au, angst rating: mature words: 3.5k warnings: toxic relationships, non graphic sex a/n: im sleepy but hey im also rly glad bts made a statement about the blm movement :D
Sometimes, saying “I love you” is inappropriate, and given your circumstances, you think it might send Jeongguk over the edge if he hears them again.
Parts: One, Two, Three, Four, Five
Tumblr media
(21) Sharing your umbrella with them in the rain.
“Yeah, I did, I submitted it on Thursday. What do you mean, did it get a good mark, it’s only Monday.” As you near the front windows of the building, you sigh and stare at the gloomy clouds presented behind the glass. Korea is cold and wet and dark today. “Fuck, rain. Anyway, I’ll call you later, Eunji, okay?”
Eunji agrees and hangs up the phone before you get the chance to, and you’re left in the cool shadow of the largest cloud in the sky. From nine until eleven, you have a morning class on Monday; today, due to request from at least five students confused by the essay title that was due on Friday evening, the class ran for an additional hour and a half, all of the subject material covered with a general extension for the following Fri. Typical, as you rushed it to hand it in before submission.
“Not going home, Y/N?”
You suck your top teeth with disappointment, “Not yet, Professor, I need to make a call.”
The slim professor arrives at your elbow, “Boyfriend?”
“Not really,” you confess. You glance at your phone and find Jeongguk’s number, “but he owes me a few favours here and there, it won’t hurt to bring an umbrella or something.”
“Good luck,” she laughs. She doesn’t offer her umbrella, despite it being tucked under her armpit, and her car is parked in sight close to the windows. At that, she leaves and you send Jeongguk a quick text message. If he’s working presently, the text will annoy him less than a call.
Raining! I’m stuck, can you send some to come and get me?
Jeongguk must be in office, because his reply is speedy. Forget your subway card again?
I never ask for anything, would it hurt you to send someone to get me?
He doesn’t reply for five minutes, and then, Uni, right?
It takes at least fifteen minutes before a vehicle pulls up across the small car-park; it’s a black car, shiny and wet and loud, and you bristle at its entry. Quickly, you hug your coat closer around your body and when you glance back up towards the window, you’re surprised to see Jeongguk himself briskly crossing the lot with an umbrella over his head.
“I’m here to pick up a Y/N L/N, you seen her?” he asks when he reaches the door, smiling as you haul it open and stare at him with happy surprise. “You did not dress for the weather.”
“The app said it would be cloudy,” you huff.
“Baby, it’s January, what did you expect,” Jeongguk sighs, wrapping an arm around your shoulders and bringing you closer to his body. Like this, he walks alongside you towards the car and for a moment, he glances around the complex out the corner of his eye. This University isn’t the dog's bollocks, because as much as he’s willing to help fund you at University, he can’t pay for you to be smarter. You’re pretty happy where you are, not being at a big-name University but doing the exact same degree anyways. He’s happy that you’re happy, but if it were him, he’d probably redecorate the front.
(22) Listening to them while they vent.
When Jeongguk vents, he doesn’t just vent. He never sits you down in front of him and lets it all out, nor does he slink away to therapy, or whining over the phone, or sleepy pillow talk where everything feels safer when you’re seconds away from falling asleep.
Instead, Jeongguk fucks away his problems, and as he does it, you tend to get an earful.
“And,” he grunts, one slap, one thrust, “I fucked it up.” One more. “All of it.” Another groan, a deeper push, “Fuck!”
You like to let him get it all out, and on the plus side, you get what you need which is to relieve the pressure of wanting in your stomach. It’s better when he’s angry, better for both of you, and he’s full of apologies when he’s finished, as if he was yelling at you and not at himself.
“Last time I ever work with Taehyung,” he spits. “Fuck. Ugh.”
You’ll ask him about it later.
(23) Taking a picture together to print and hang later.
One night, you’re over at Jeongguk’s. It’s not unusual that you’re here, especially when you’re here so often that his house feels like your own. From the bathroom, the shower runs loudly and Jeongguk sings, mostly to himself, in the water, meanwhile you dance around his kitchen making tea and bringing it to the bedroom where he’ll come in later when he’s done.
His room is golden and warm, and the curtains are drawn but the thin netting softens the sunset outside. You circle around the end of Jeongguk’s bed and set his cup on the bedside table on his side, closest to the window, when you notice something new sitting in a frame by the lamp. Okay, you’ll bite.
You put down both mugs and in exchange pick up the frame. Something warm bubbles inside your stomach as you look down at the frame; the picture, you’ve never seen before, but it’s of you. You remember the photo being taken in Colmar, the time that Jeongguk came to see you to satisfy his own boredom and need. Never did you imagine it would be a photo he’d print, let alone put in a frame next to his bed. It’s a pretty photo, too, with the river behind you and the sun on your skin, your hair only slightly in your face.
Not a perfect photo, but a pretty one. Jeongguk must like it enough to have printed it.
The shower cuts off in the bathroom and you move quickly, protecting an image of innocence as you put the frame back where it once was, and pick up your mug and place it on your bedside table. You’ve placed Jeongguk’s mug so that he could take it both ways. Maybe he’ll think you didn’t see the frame, or maybe he’ll know you did. He must have put it there for a reason, you think, and then you stop thinking when Jeongguk opens the bathroom door and enters the bedroom.
(24) Tracing your names together in the sand.
Jeongguk had a call from Hawaii. It was brief, and you imagine not very pleasant, but he had to go nonetheless. Jeongguk sure as hell wasn’t going to go to Hawaii without you, no matter how dangerous that might be for him. He told you with two hours notice to pack up your shit and meet him at his place. The plane took off three hours later, and Hawaii here you come.
He never liked to be late, or behind schedule, and so the job that needed to be done was done in a record breaking speed. Like always, he’d have some time to kill before needing to flee to avoid the authorities, and when Jeongguk heads back home after the deed is done, he steps into an empty room and his skin runs cold.
“Y/N?” he calls, to no response. He sets down his things and moves around the suite, his eyes darting to every area.
There is a moment where Jeongguk fears for the worst and out of instinct grabs the gun tucked into his belt. He pulls it out in the bedroom but pauses when out of the corner of his eye, he sees a person standing on the beach just outside the window. Jeongguk pauses.
Outside, the sun is warm and burning orange, sinking down into the pretty waves. You could get used to Hawaii, maybe, if you failed at journalism at the end of your degree, or if Jeongguk hurt your feelings enough that you felt living in Korea itself would be too painful to endure.
“Y/N!”
You turn over your shoulder, noticing Jeongguk stepping down from the dunes. He’s still in his suit, a black fit that makes him look slender and tall and absolutely stunning. His hair is still wild and wet and there’s blood on the inside of his blazer, a red that contrasts the white of his shirt. You won’t mention it, because he probably knows already.
“Hey,” you call back.
“It’s- it’s not safe for you to be out here on your own,” he explains, finally by your side. “Fuck, I was worried you’d been kidnapped, or something.”
“Oh, sorry,” you reply. “The sunset was just too pretty.”
Jeongguk sighs with his hands on his hips. “Yeah, it is. Hawaii does sunsets better than Korea, that’s for sure.”
Jeongguk stands next to you and says nothing for a few seconds. The sunset is indeed gorgeous, like something ripped out of a painting from a gallery somewhere fancy and famous. You hum quietly, and jump slightly to the left to grab a large stick off the sand. Jeongguk has to stop himself from smiling as you pick it up, like a kid who pretends the stick is a sword.
“I used to write rude things in the sand for the people in planes who flew past, every single time we went on vacation when I was a kid,” you announce.
Jeongguk laughs, “You were some kid, huh?”
“Maybe you killed the wrong one,” you think, and Jeongguk frowns.
“Can you not bring that up all the time?” You look at him and he frowns deeper, “I know you’re happy about it and stuff, but like...not my proudest moment. Makes me feel sucky.”
“Oh,” you answer. “Sorry, I didn’t mean it like that. Just a joke.”
He shrugs, “I know. But still.”
You stab the sand with the stick. “I thought maybe it was like, fitting?”
Jeongguk lifts his head to the sky and closes his eyes. “Can’t we have a trip where we just pretend to be in love or something so I don’t feel so shit about the reason why we came here?”
That shuts you up for a moment, and you turn fully to face him as he continues to stare at the sky.
“Like Colmar, maybe,” you press, and he looks down.
“Yeah.”
It sits there for a bit, like you’re genuinely contemplating it, but then you straighten with a little huff and turn to him.
“Seems fair,” you agree.
Jeongguk almost exhales a sigh of relief and he smiles, genuinely, and follows you across the beach. The tide is a little out, the sand damp where the sea once was and like children, you embrace the fun that’s waiting to be had on the shores. Chasing the waves, running from them, staring at cute crabs that scurry across the sand and laughing at the cute kids that drop their ice creams in the water.
Jeongguk takes the stick gently from your hand and points it towards the white sand, pressing the tip against the grains. You smile against his arm as you bend to see what he draws; the stick drags across the sand and outlines a J, and the first initial of your name. Oh, you think, as he closes them inside a heart and stands back to admire his work.
It’s cute, childishly cute, and he looks proud. Jeongguk beams at you for approval and you smile back, happy.
“Photo,” you say and Jeongguk drops to a crouch near the design and poses with the stick. This photo is cute, probably cuter than the one from Colmar. Jeongguk even lets you keep it.
(25) Wearing clothes in their favourite colour.
Jeongguk’s favourite colour was white, and he loved the way a white shirt or a white coat or any white accessory would look on you. Sadistically he’d love you in the white clothes he ruins, seeing you wrap your body in a white shirt dressed with blood. White was his muse, a colour of purity and innocence. Although he always wore black for work, he had to have an admiration for the colour of white, standard paper or milk white.
Jeongguk knows that your favourite colour is green. He can tell by the amount of green plants around your apartment, and the green blankets and pillows and mugs and the unusual amount of green clothing items you have in your wardrobe. He even remembers the tie you bought him once, a Slytherin green that he actually really likes despite his Hogwarts house being Ravenclaw.
You’ve never actually seen him wear the tie, not until today when Jeongguk makes a quick stop by your apartment as he heads back to the office. He steps inside with a brown bag filled with bagels and he kisses your forehead by the front door and hands them to you. You see the tie and smile; Jeongguk sure as hell looks great in your favourite colour.
(26) Doing a chore for them that you know they aren’t fond of.
You’re lucky that you never really came across Elio, never once when you were at Jeongguk’s home. You had assumed that Elio was sleeping, or elsewhere on days you visited or nights you slept over. To your surprise and perhaps horror, you discovered that Elio had been there all along, just disinterested in coming out to see you from the few rooms that Jeongguk converted into his own personal habitat.
“You just had him here all this time?” you screech quietly, running back into the bedroom after seeing Elio on the couch. “What the fuck.”
“He’s harmless,” Jeongguk shrugs. “He’s not interested in a human diet right now.”
“Right now? That’s not comforting,” you reply. “I’m happy to go through all your shitty paperwork for you, it’s something I actually enjoy, but can you please go out and get them for me?”
Jeongguk cocks his head to the side, “why, can’t find them?”
“They’re in the living room, on the table,” you explain, peering back out, “but Elio’s on the couch.”
He laughs, rising, “He’s not gonna even touch you.”
“He might.”
“He won’t.”
“You don’t know that!”
“No, but he doesn’t hurt me, so he won’t hurt you.”
You gape. “What? He’s your pet, of course he won’t hurt you. He trusts you. He doesn’t even know me.”
Jeongguk sighs loudly and ruffles your hair as he crosses your path. “Whatever. You’re such a fuckin pussy,” then he kisses your neck and heads out into the living room. You quiver by the doorway as he moves without a flinch towards Elio.
The giant cat picks his head up off the couch and yawns in Jeongguk’s direction, his tail swooshing prettily over the side of the couch. His black fur blends into the blanket he lies on and as he blinks slowly, Jeongguk reaches to pet his head and behind his ears. Elio basks in the love, pressing his head further into Jeongguk’s palm, oddly dog-like. Jeongguk spends a few more moments with his beloved exotic and then finally, like he’s reluctant to, picks up the large and messy stack of papers and then walks back towards the bedroom with a smug expression. Elio’s head falls back to sleep.
“Touch me, check I’m still alive after my dangerous encounter,” Jeongguk says, bringing the papers into the room and dropping them on the bed.
“Shut up,” you huff.
(27) Leaving a plate of food in the microwave for when they have a late shift.
A call from Eunji at eight in the evening destroys all the plans you had set in place. Jeongguk had been called to meet with one of the founders of the South Korean Continental, and wouldn’t be back until around nine. You had prepped an entire meal, sitting ready on the side for when he got home.
“I’m sorry, I wouldn’t call if it wasn’t absolutely important,” Eunji apologises, sounding flustered on the line, “I just. I didn’t know who else to call. I went back to the library, I think I got rid of him, but he was definitely following me from the restaurant. Fuck, Y/N, it was so scary.”
“Hey, it’s okay, I’m glad you called me,” you assure her, already putting your shoes on, “I can’t believe he showed up again. Didn’t he get put in jail?”
Eunji hums like she’s not convinced, “Out on bail, eighty kay.”
“Fuck. Do you, uh,” you start, thinking of if it’s okay to say, “want me to call someone else?” Jeongguk?
Eunji is one of the only people alive who knows about Jeongguk. She had been your best friend since you were seven, and was one of the only people who remained by your side after Jeongguk had your brother executed, and after you decided to become Jeongguk’s little play thing for a few weeks until he lost control and kept you around. Eunji’s no stranger to his antics, and if you warped the story a little, Jeongguk would have no issues with sorting the problem at hand.
“No, no, don’t,” Eunji begs. “He’ll take it too far. People will point fingers at me. Can you just come and get me?”
“Of course,” you tell her. “We’ll go back to mine, I can see Jeongguk whenever.”
Eunji exhales in relief, “I love you, you know that? You’re the best friend ever.”
You hang up a few minutes later and stare sadly at the meal. But it can’t be helped. Jeongguk’s bailed on you a thousand times for his colleagues. He wouldn’t mind, after a few hours of thinking about it. You sigh with repent and move the food towards the microwave.
Rescuing Eunji. Call me, I can come back tomorrow. Please eat.
Jeongguk finds the note when he gets home and scrunches it into a ball in the bin.
He eats alone, in silence, the other side of the table still prepped for another person.
(28) Sharing a drink with them from the same straw.
“Enjoy the movie!”
“Thanks.”
Jeongguk takes the two tickets from the vender and steers you towards the corridor that leads to the rooms. On this rare occasion, Jeongguk has decided to court you. Quite literally, Jeongguk had called you up and asked if you wanted to go on a date, or something, because he was bored and liked you most, and he knows there’s a movie you’ve been wanting to see.
“Are you sure you wanna watch it with me?” you ask him, even though he’s already got the tickets and is walking next to you.
“Yeah, of course, why wouldn’t I?”
“I just didn’t think you were a cinema kind of person,” you confess.
Jeongguk hums, “To be honest, I’m not. But this movie looks good, and you wanna see it, and how often do we do things that you wanna do?”
It’s true.
The cinema room is dark and empty, since you’re both early to begin with. As always, it’s a little bit sticky and smelly, and Jeongguk pushes you towards the back row because it is inarguably the best place to sit in the cinema. You set down the large drink in between you both, two straws poking out in each of your directions.
“It’s great this movie is showing here,” you say quietly.
“Yeah, well the LGBT plus movement is really popular now, people are a lot more accepting of it,” Jeongguk states. “I mean, look at how well The Handmaiden did.”
You nod, “great movie.”
“It is,” he agrees. A few minutes later and the lights dim significantly, the movie is probably about to start. Jeongguk leans to the left a little and sips from the drink.
(29) Tucking their hair behind their ear to help them get it out of their face.
Uni’s tough, nobody said it wasn’t. Jeongguk doesn’t really understand this, since he never went to University. He brings a mug of tea from the kitchen to his bedroom where you’re sitting cross-legged staring at a laptop, setting it to the side and sitting just behind you but to your side, watching you closely.
“You’re doing it again.”
“Doing what,” you mutter dimly.
“Overworking yourself,” Jeongguk replies, “I can see your brain fucking pulsing against your skull.”
You sigh loudly. “I can’t do this. Why did I enroll in University? I should have just put it all away after high school and become a trophy wife.”
Jeongguk’s brows furrow. “You can still be a trophy wife, you’ll just be a smart one.”
You look at him. “I’m not smart enough for this.”
For a while, Jeongguk doesn’t say anything, and he just sits listening to you. As you vent, and open up about how hard it is to do this damn degree, Jeongguk watches your face and your body and uses his fingers to gently tuck the hair that falls in front of your face behind your ear. The passion that pours out of you when you’re frustrated is an unspoken beauty that you’re not even aware of, and Jeongguk eats it up.
He does what he can to put you at ease, because things he says in encouragement are things you already know anyway. Like all humans, all you need is a little bit of love, and Jeongguk’s happy to give it if it means you’re happy with him.
(30) Helping scratch that itch on their back they can’t reach.
“Can’t reach. Baby, scratch my back for me?”
You cringe away from the TV, “what the fuck am I? Your maid?”
“Please?”
You sigh. “Where’s it itching?”
“Thanks, you’re the best.”
“You don’t pay me enough for this.”
“I don’t pay you at all.”
Sigh. “Exactly.”

Note
Connor and Markus are on vacation when they first meet
Connor's workaholic ass kept trying to weasel out of going on vacation up to the last moment until his dad, Hank Anderson, literally hugged him roughly in their shared beat up the car and then pushed him unceremoniously out the door at the airport, then sped off leaving him two options: Uber home or take the damned plane and go on vacation proper. Connor shook his head; the precinct could wait a week without him.
Carl had a limo come and get Markus and ferry him to the airport. Markus hated it. It showed he was a child of money and he was always so nervous about leaving his Dad's side. He never knew if it would be the last time. He had two choices: worry himself till he was prematurely gray and call the limo back it goes on this week vacation. Begrudgingly and guiltily, he enters the airport.
Connor's a nervous mess and it shows at the bag check out. He wishes the floor would swallow him whole. There are too many people. Then the lady is telling him he's in the wrong line, this is a first-class ticket and Connor is both mad and flattered that his father splurged this much for him. He nervously moves his bags out the way to the blessedly clear first-class line.
Well, that's not quite true. There is this beautiful man dressed in a brand of a suit he could never afford in a year's worth of income, in line, getting checked in.
Connor feels like an obvious bum behind this airport God, with his bronze skin and-oh! Two-toned eyes, one blue and the other green...and crap he's staring.
Connor mumbles a 'hello' in passing as the airport God continues to stare at afterward, probably thinks he's weird.
Check out isn't a problem.
Markus has been flying since he was one year old, and first-class, too. What he didn't expect to see was this adorable wallflower staring at him absolutely terrified and a hairsbreadth from being spooked by him. Oh my goodness, he was so adorable! Soft looking curls, large brown eyes framed in large framed glasses, pale mole, freckled skin that was actively blushing. Even his graphic tee, skinny jeans, and DG shoes we're just somehow him, Markus knew. Markus walked past with a greeting...and right into some rope off markers because he was so enamored with the other man. Too bad they aren't going to the same place, that could have been markus time to get to know him.
They are row mates and the flight is surprisingly pretty much just them.
Markus is not the most religious but prays to all entities for this happenstance.
Connor has problems breathing with the man being right there in his visual range. The dude is way out of his league, probably straight as a board, and Connor's gay heart can not deal. He fucking smells good from across the row from him. Bitch.
"Hi, I'm Markus. What is your name?"
Connor flinched like he was slapped and with the added confusion as his eyes landed on where the voice came from.
Markus would have laughed if he wasn't certain that the other would probably ride the rest of the flight in the bathroom just to live down the unwarranted embarrassment.
The man, Markus, is all smiles and beautiful eyes, and Connor is melting in confusion inside. This man is talking to him?
"I'm Connor. Are you talking to me, not a phone, or?"
Markus smile dims a little. So this Connor had self-esteem issues, felt a like person like him could not be talked to by a person like him.
"Yeah, I'm talking to you directly. There are no other beautiful people taking my attention like you are."
Connor blushed even harder and tried to will his heart to not fall out of his mouth. Here this absolutely fetching male was talking to him and he was ready to put his earbuds in for the duration of the trip like a normal person would when being flirted with.
Markus knew what he was doing.
Looking both ways down the aisle, he got up with his carry on and sat by Connor.
Connor freaked out for multiple reasons: what about assigned seating? This man was too hot, and Connor was very Gay.
Markus could see the panic attack welling up in Connor.
Markus started to talk to him about himself. He spoke of how this was a 'forced vacation'/from his Dad, a point Connor could relate to. He started to relax, take in the man's calming voice.
Connor found his voice and started talking back about his own experience. It was an enjoyable experience with a perfect stranger that just happened to look like Connor's future husband.
It never crossed their minds they were on a joint flight to Hawaii even when whey they finally disembarked hours later, it still didn't click.
Connor slept on his first day.
When he did wake, he enjoyed the scenery of the beach from his verandah. He thought about Markus and the fact that maybe he could have drawn the scene before him.
He decided to hit the beach. He'd bought some ridiculously small board booty shorts, painted his nails a lovely iridescent navy blue, and parked himself under a large canopy on his doggie pattern beach towel. He was pretty and he was going to pay that aspect up.
There was a 'thud' and slight groan as someone tripped and more or less stop, dropped, and fell under his canopy with him.
It had him scrambling up, fist ready to fight. He was no pushover no matter how he may look to others. He looked down and couldn't help but snort inelegantly. Markus lay frozen in place, borderline terrified Markus, eyes wide and shifting all over Connor's figure before landing on those tiny shorts.
Markus can't help but want to stay by Connor's side, and it looks like Connor is just as receptive to that, if his eyes glued on Markus muscles have any say in it.
Baring just the good looks and obvious attraction between them, the conversation is good as well. They find they have a lot in common as well.
They decide after a fun day at the beach to sort of unanimously to enjoy the trip as whatever this would evolve into. They now were certain they both resided in Detroit, Markus a curator for his father's works and some of his own as well.
Connor was an up and coming detective that partnered with his father, Lieutenant Thank Anderson. Markus knew of his dad from a large art heist that he'd busted when he was younger and had nothing but respect for the man. Likewise, Connor enjoyed Carl Manfred's artwork from the time he could understand art concepts.
Nightlife came and the pair went out and enjoyed the energy of the clubs. Connor would not have come if not for Markus, and Markus doubted that he would have either alone given his homebody nature. They both fed each other positively in that regard, sharing drinks and laughs and dancing late into the morning hours.
At some point, they had decided to call it a night in their tipsy way of handling, Markus arm around Connor's shoulder as giggled themselves, shuffling back to the hotel that they found they also shared.
Somewhere along the trip up to their respective rooms, Connor became very brave indeed, pulling Markus slightly flushed face to his and kiss him soundly. Markus looks at him with wide, expressive eyes, the vestiges of drunkenness slipping away for confirmation of what this can mean, what it will mean if he steps a foot into Connor's room with him.
Connor murmurs his assent to whatever the night will hold and Markus kisses Connor back with more passion this time around, finagling the room key from Connor's hand and fumbling to open it, too stubborn to fly stop peppering kisses on Connor and look at the lock mechanism to which Connor just can't contain his giggles. The four finally swings open and Connor is lifted up and onto the room, the door closing slowly behind them letting his giggles echo into the hall until the slip into pleased little groans by the time the door is completely shut.
A week goes by and two fathers await their son's return. Somehow Hank is pleased with this little turn of events. He wanted Connor to enjoy himself, to truly unwind. If 'unwind' meant to bring a boyfriend home, well, as long as he was safe, Hank was proud of his boy. He seemed to have a good eye when he saw the other slightly nervous young man named Markus holding his son's hand.
Carl was the same sort of supportive. He even was having a good day health-wise so he really got to get to know (pick on and tell embarrassing stories to) Connor. Markus rolled his eyes and sighed good-natured.
To think neither we're interested in going on their vacation for their own reasons. They may have gone their whole lives and never met.
Here's to all the perfect strangers in the world that could be soul mates waiting to happen.

“This avengers meeting is officially in order.” Tony banged the personalized gavel he had made for meetings. The rest of the Avengers took their seats as you scooted closer to Peter.
“Firstly, I’d like to announce an update to our tower. All bathrooms now require voice activation to be opened. This will prevent any future mishaps of people walking in on other people in the bathtub.” Tony announced as he glared at Sam.
“My bad.” Sam said sheepishly and looked away.
“Secondly, Thor’s coming to visit.” Tony said and banged the gavel. “Loki’s coming too.” He added taking a seat next to you and Peter.
“Oh, I never met him!” You exclaimed. You had met Thor millions of times but never his brother.
“He’s nice... Sometimes.” Tony gawked, not too happy Loki was joining the party.
“He was super nice the last time I saw him!” Peter added innocently, not aware of the chaos Loki could cause yet.
“Well they should be here any minute.” Tony checked his watch. “And underoos, try to get the munchkin crumbs off your face before they do.”
“Right. I’ll be right back.” Peter pressed a quick kiss to your cheek before scurrying out of the room.
“You guys are cute,” Rhody added and you gave him a kind smile.
“Yeah, yeah, alright meeting over, you guys prepare for the devil brothers.” Tony banged the gavel one last time dismissing everyone.
~
“Y/n!” Thor exclaimed the second he walked into the room. He brought you into the biggest hug. “How’s my favorite Midguardien!” He was hugging you so tight you could barely breathe.
“About to die.” You squeaked smooshed from his embrace.
“Oh, my apologies.” He dropped you. You coughed a few times and laughed it off.
“It’s ok” You fixed your clothes. “I haven’t seen you around here before.” You pointed to the handsome tall man with slicked black hair who couldn’t keep his eyes off you.
“I wasn’t welcomed back after the whole New York thing.” He eyed Tony from the other side of the room “But Tony thought I learned my lesson.” He gave Tony a fake smile and a friendly wave to prove his innocence.
“You’re Loki, aren’t you? I’ve heard Thor complaining about you once or a thousand times.” You glanced at Thor who was head stuck in a pack of chips.
“Guilty as charged. And you are?” He gave you his most charming smile.
“Y/n. Nice to meet you, Loki.” You smiled politely and held out your hand for him to shake.
“The pleasure is mine.” He smirked and took your hand, placing a hot blooded kiss to the back of it.
It seemed like someone had just pulled a switch in Loki’s mind. All of the sudden all he could think of was you. He analyzed your features wanting to remember them and even engrave them in his memory forever. All he could think about was how your hair would look like in the moonlight, or how pretty you would be in an Asgardian gown. His mind went into autopilot as all he could think of was a way to make you happy.
“If you insist.” You flushed and looked around to see if anyone else saw it. You made eye contact with Nat who had a knowing smirk on her face.
“I do.” Loki patted your hand and you could see his expression change when his eyes drifted to the side.
“Oh, God. This one.” He rolled his eyes. You were about to turn around when you felt Peter come up behind you and wrap his arms around your waist. You quickly took your hand away from Loki and gave him an apologetic smile.
“There you are, baby.” Peter smiled and kissed your cheek. “I see you’ve met Loki.”
“Baby?” Loki cocked his head and looked at you for an answer. Even though he just met you, he felt his blood boiling at the sight of you in another man's arms.
“That’s just what I call her, because she’s my baby.” Peter cooed and squeezed you tightly.
“Uh, Loki. Have you met my boyfriend Peter?” You awkwardly smiled as the tension between the three of you became palpable.
“No. We’ve never met before.” Loki gave Peter a tight-lipped smile and went to shake his hand.
“Yes we have.” Peter tilted his head in confusion as Loki locked on an iron grip around Peter's hand. Had it not been for Peter’s super strength, his hand might have broken.
“Don’t think so.” Loki cut him off sharply. “It was lovely to meet you, Y/n. If you’ll excuse me.” He smiled warmly at you and shot daggers at Peter before stalking over to Thor.
“Brother! Have you tried these? I believe they’re called hot Cheetos. Divine!” Thor bellowed as he shoveled more Cheetos into his mouth.
“Now is not the time, you deviant.” Loki snapped but kept his eyes on the bag. “Give me those.”
Loki angrily shoved hot Cheetos into his mouth as he watched you interacting with Peter. In the thousands of years he had been alive, he had never seen something more infuriating. He knew you belonged on Asgard with him as the Queen. In no world were you supposed to be slumming it on earth with a gangly teenager who called himself Spider-Man. Jealousy boiled in the pit of his tummy like hot oil.
“Brother.” He piped up. “How long has Y/n been with the stupid skinny one?”
“Oh, you must mean Peter.” Thor laughed in delight. “They’ve been together for quite a while. Aren’t they adorable?” Thor chuckled before opening a new pack of Cheetos and almost dumping it all in his mouth.
“I must have her.” Loki said decidedly.
“And I must have ten more of these delicious cheese logs. They’re shaped like Kentucky, aren’t they brother?” Thor held up a Cheeto and admired it.
“You kids all packed?” Happy entered the room playing with his car keys.
"Yep" you gave the man a bright smile.
"Where are they going?" Loki asked almost aroused that you were leaving.
"School trip to California! Wooo!" You raised your hands in cheer while walking out the door.
"California?" Loki’s face painted with a frown and the wheels in his brain turned around like a scene from Charlie Chaplin’s modern times. "That seems a little, punk for a lady like her."
“Don’t overthink it brother, Human customs are pretty weird. You’ll get used to it.” Thor clapped his brother a little too roughly on the back and Loki winced.
“Don’t think I will.” He muttered, eyes never leaving you.
~
"Vamos a la playa! A mi me gusta bail-" you and Peter were about to hit the last word of the sentence for the 200th time in the last 40 minutes when Happy decides he had had enough.
"KIDS PLEASE!" Happy screamed turning the music off, his head about to blow up from hearing this song.
"Sorry" you and Peter replied, sheepish grins painting your faces.
Happy rolled his eyes before parking right in front of the airport gate.
The two of you settled in your class group next to Ned and MJ. You greeted everyone and started a game of sticks with Peter.
"Kids change of plan! We’re going to Hawaii!" The teacher exclaimed while putting his phone back in his pocket.
"What?" Everyone stared at the teacher confused.
"Yes!" Ned punched his fist in the air already loving the sound of going to his home island.
"Some kind donor has offered us to go to a fancier destination." The teacher smiled brightly and placed a flower necklace around his neck. "So Aloha guys"
"Yeah, Aloha," Ned replied and waved his arms imitating a Hawaiian dance.
You and Peter turned your heads around at the same time, giving each other worried looks.
"Kind donor?" You titled your head in disbelief.
"Doesn’t sound good" Peter shook his head.
~
You stepped outside the plane, the humidity taking you aback and making it slightly hard to breathe.
Before you could relax and enjoy your time in Hawaii, you had to know who was behind this "generous donation". Since Fury had never let you down with obtaining classified information before, so you gave him a call.
"Alright let me check." Nick’s voice rang through your headphones.
"Seems like a certain Loki bought enough tickets for your whole class, and got a few hotel rooms in Hawaii. That’s all I know. To be honest I fear it’s Thor's brother but it might just be a disguise." You could hear Fury’s frown. "So keep an eye on the lookout." He cleared his throat. "You want me to send back up?" His deep accent felt loud in your headphones as you were trying to figure out who could possibly want to crash this trip.
"No, but thanks anyway. We’ll call you if we found anything suspicious." You nodded at Peter.
"Alright. Be careful." And with that, he hung up leaving a heavyweight in your stomach.
You looked into the horizon of the baggage claim patiently waiting for your bag. You spotted Peters and yours slightly following. You shifted in your spot keeping a close eye on yours.
Suddenly an unknown hand grabbed your bag and before you had time to react placed it back making it roll towards you.
You tried to spot the person but failed as more people came swarming towards the area.
"Must’ve thought it was his." Peter smiled as he saw the frown on your face. You gave him a slight nod.
"Here." Peter grabbed your bag before you could of even lay a hand on it.
"Well thank you." You giggled before pressing a kiss to his lips
"Well you're very welcome."
You rolled your suitcase a few steps before a little piece of paper came slipping out of it. You bent down to get it and crumbled it in your pocket.
“You coming?”
“Yep.”
~
You dropped your suitcases taking in the five-star hotel room you were assigned. You got changed into a bathing suit and layed out a few dresses to put on top.
You walked to your door when you heard a knock. You smiled when you saw your smirking boyfriend, already in his bathing suit.
“It’s amazing right?” You gave him a bright smile.
“Yeah!” He greeted you with a kiss. “Mr. Harrington is saying we should go downstairs. He says he has a big announcement to d-” He looked at you up and down and his mouth fell.
“You look like- Like Leila in-”
“The golden bikini?” You finished his sentence. “Yeah, saw this at the store, thought it looked like it, immediately thought of you.” You chuckled and Peter’s face lit up with a smile.
“I love you so much.”
“Yeah me too, now let’s go.” You chuckled before grabbing a dress and heading out.
~
You were about to step out of the elevator when a figure suddenly passed right in front of you. Peter’s eyes widened as he thought he’d recognized Loki.
“Did you see that?” Peter pointed to the empty space in front of the elevator.
“See what?” You looked up from your phone.
“I thought I saw… Someone.” Peter looked around the lobby.
“Ned what is this?” You asked as you marched towards the class.
“My Hawaiian outfit.” He pointed to his flower shirt, crown and necklace.
“You look weird.” MJ deadpanned. “And is that Leia’s Golden bikini?” MJ grabbed the strap under your shirt just to release it again. Peter shot her a look and draped a protective arm around your shoulders.
“So here are the activities we have prepared.” Mr Harrington clapped his hands before grabbing the paper from the other teacher and beginning to read the activities out loud.
“Beach Volleyball.”
A few people in the class cheered. You and Peter looked at each other and shrugged in approval.
“Surf.”
Brad smirked and MJ rolled her eyes at his reaction.
“Hiking, and Traditional Hawaiian dance. We will let you know when we finish planning the rest of the itinerary. Now C’mon, Volley awaits us.” He gave the class a stiff salute and gestures for everyone to follow him. You and Peter exchanged looks, laughing to yourselves at Mr. Harrington’s staple awkwardness. Peter laced his fingers through yours and walked with you to the volleyball field.
~
You were about to be sent the ball when you and Peter saw Loki a few feet away staring right at you.
“Ow!” You fell as the ball hit you right in the head.
“You ok?” Peter bent down to make sure you were ok.
“Was that Loki?” You asked as you looked into the distance.
“I think it was. C’mon. Let’s get some ice on that.”
Peter walked you up to your room, where he handed you an ice pack you gladly took. //Probs need to rephrase that
“Don’t you think it’s a little weird that Loki hijacked our school trip?” Peter asked once his suspicion got the better of him.
“Not really.” You shrugged in dismissal. “We’re in Hawaii, Peter. Let’s just enjoy it.” You winced at the cold.
“I can’t enjoy it until I know why he did it..” Peter brought up as he took a seat on the bed.
“Maybe he just did it out of the kindness of his heart.” You sat next to him and pouted dramatically. Peter shoved you a little when you weren’t taking it seriously.
“He’s Loki! He doesn’t have any kindness in his heart. He doesn’t even have a heart!” Peter exclaimed and you had to laugh at your boyfriend's ridiculous behavior.
“Come on, Peter.” You took his hand and whined. “I don’t want to spend our vacation talking about Loki. Who cares why he did this?”
“I care.” He stated. “Because I know what his motive was.”
“World domination?” You smiled sweetly and he rolled his eyes.
“You. He did this for you.” Peter said definitively.
“What? I just met him.” You reminded your boyfriend. “There’s no way he did this for me.”
“With someone as special and beautiful as you, all it takes is one encounter.” He held up one finger and you smiled at his kind words. You wrapped your hand around his finger and held it. “I saw the way he was looking at you back at the tower. And I definitely saw the way he was looking at me. He did this to impress you and win you away from me.”
“Well he doesn’t have all the facts.” You said pointedly.
“What are the facts?” Peter put his hands in his hips and looked at you skeptically.
“That I’m totally in love with my superhero boyfriend.” You dropped your ice pack to and wrapped your arms around Peter's neck and covered his face in kisses. “Can we go play on the beach now? I feel way better.”
“Okay.” Peter agreed, content with what you said. “We can go play on the beach.”
~
That night was the night of the Hawaiian dance. You and Peter were forced to dress with beautiful skirts, flower crowns and necklaces.
“I look ridiculous.” Peter insecurly folded his arms to cover himself.
“No you don’t, you look handsome.” You cooed as you finished tying on your skirt.
“No. I look like a Hawaiian scarecrow.” Peter sighed and finally caught sight of you. “You, on the other hand, look like a Hawaiiann goddess.”
“Tell me, if you look like a scarecrow, then what does Ned look like.” You pointed to Ned, who was decked out in dozens of flowers while dreamily strumming away on a ukulele.
“He just looks like he was born to wear it.” Peter whined before eying you suspiciously. “I bet Loki would love to see you wear that.”
“Excuse me?” You tilted your head, hoping you misheard him.
“I mean, he did stare at you at the beach which I find very disturbing.” Peter grumbled. “Does he know you're taken?”
“Peter!” You groaned, not wanting to get into yet another discussion about Loki.
“What? You should take it as a compliment!” Peter said, completely oblivious to your anger.
“Peter, can you stop being jealous for one second!” You asked of him.
“I mean you do have an amazing body.” He continued completely ignoring your comments.
“Peter I- agh” You were cut by the dance teacher.
“Let’s go, everybody. Move those hips.” The instructor wiggles his hips, signaling that class was about to start.
“We’re talking about this later.” Peter said gravely as he loosely followed what the instructor was doing. Not wanting to start a fight, you nodded at Peter and tried to enjoy the class.
~
“We need to talk about before.” Peter stated as he tossed his beach bag on the bed.
“Before?” You asked. “And get that bag off the bed unless you like sleeping with sand in the sheets.”
“I’m talking about Loki staring at you on the beach.” He grumbled as he took his bag off the bed and dropped it on the ground. “ He was practically drilling over you in your…beach wear.”
“Who cares if he was staring? He’s probably just a Star Wars fan.” You shrugged it off and began to pick out your clothes for the next day.
“I care.” Peter said assertively.
“Why?” You looked at him and laughed playfully.
“Because he clearly has a crush on you!” Peter erupted and you looked up at the ceiling. Peter was once again bringing up Loki when all you wanted to do was enjoy your vacation with him.
“No he doesn’t!” You stamped your foot, growing frustrated as Peter refused to believe you.
“Yes he does! Any idiot can see it.” Peter snapped, eyes immediately softening when he realized what he had said.
“So I’m an idiot?” You asked rhetorically. He opened his mouth to apologize but you cut him off before he could. “Maybe I am. Maybe I’ve been an idiot for picking you over Loki.”
With that, you stormed away from Peter. You didn’t even know if you had meant what you said. You just wanted to hurt Peter and did it in the only way you knew how. If he was jealous of Loki, you were gonna let him be. You walked a few paces from the hotel until you reached the beach, immediately feeling the chill of the night air. You shoved your hands in your pockets for warmth, suddenly remembering the paper that had fallen out of your suitcase.
Dear Y/n,
You shine with the light of a thousand solar systems. I have traveled all around the galaxy but I have never come across anything as beautiful as you. Come home with me to Asgard. A head as lovely as yours belongs under a crown. I can make you my queen, if you let me. Consider this vacation upgrade as a mere taste of the evations I can give you. You will live a life of luxury and never know pain. Asgard awaits you my love,
Your Devoted Prince.
You felt your fist clench as you read and reread the words on the page. Peter was right, Loki did fall for you. And to make it worse, you had scolded Peter and told him he was wrong. Sure, Loki seemed nice when you met him that day in the Avengers Tower, but Peter had told you all about his attack on New York on the ride to Hawaii. Loki was capable of horrible, life threatening moves of mass destruction. Peter wasn’t shy about telling you about the brainwashing, the casualties and worst of all, the kneeling. If you rejected Loki, there was no telling how he would react. After all, he'd hijacked your vacation for you. You reread the letter with shaking hands and looked back at the hotel. You had to talk to Peter, yes, but you also needed to figure out a plan. Peter was strong but he was no match for the God of Mischief. That is, if Peter even helped you after you refused to believe him about Loki.
As you walked back to the hotel, you ran your fingertips over Loki’s handwriting. You hated to admit it to yourself, and you’d certainly never admit it to anyone else, but his note was compelling. You knew Loki had a mean streak, but what if he had a good streak too? A person could be more than one thing. He had already proven to you how hard he was willing to fight, while all Peter had done was whine. You stopped in your tracks to read the note one last time.
“Baby! There you are.” Peter's voice snapped you out of your daze as he ran up to you, out of breath. He saw the note in your hand and furrowed his eyebrows.
“What’s that?”
You looked up at Peter before looking back down at the note, knowing you had to make your choice.
It was Peter or Loki, now or never.

WARNING: A little NSFW.
NOTE: Welcome to July! I went nearly a week with no internet, but I have returned and I intend to start jamming this fic through to the end. We're essentially entering the last "arc" of the story now and I hope you're all ready for it. Thank you for the reviews and continued readership, I appreciate that so much - especially when I'm taking forever to get this finished.
---------------------------------------------------
"Aww, c'mon, why am I the only one excited about this?"
The rest of the gang sort of shrugged noncommittally. None of them seemed to want to say aloud that the reason they couldn't summon the same level of anticipation as Yosuke was that they were still missing Narukami. Chie was staring down into her usual bowl of meat, stirring it distractedly.
"Not even you, Satonaka?!"
"Why me?!" she protested grumpily. "Like, single somebody else out, you jerk!"
Wilting in defeat, Yosuke leaned back against the railing around the school roof. "Ugh… you're all impossible."
"It's just Golden Week," Yukiko protested with a slight squirm. She wanted to be kind, to resist the temptation to pop Yosuke's little bubble of joy. But she also wanted to be realistic. "I agree, it would be wonderful to have a little vacation, but if we can't agree on where to go, and aren't that excited as a group…"
"Come on, we shouldn't have to give up that easy." Rise shrugged and hopped up from her seat. "Why don't we just do Okinawa? It's far enough that it's a vacation without being so crazy that all our time would be taken up by travel. I mean, unless we have to go all the way to Hawaii or something to have a good time."
The floppy-haired boy looked at her like she was the coming Messiah, drifting down from upon high to bless him with her presence. "Bless you. Absolutely bless you for saving me! I could kiss you!"
When he started to approach, she held up a hand palm out. "Try it and I will be wearing your teeth as a necklace." As he deflated, she turned the charm back on and pressed her hands together on one side of her face, smiling a dazzling smile. "Okinawa it is! We just need an adult to accompany us, or we're gonna get hassled a lot."
"Hmm, good point," Naoto said. Then the group as one looked toward the unsuspecting Kanji.
"Huh? Wha- I'm younger than most of you guys!"
"Yeah, but you look older," Chie pointed out with a thoughtful expression, tapping her chin with her index finger. "Do you think we could pull it off?"
While the taller boy was very clearly fuming that they thought of him as an old man, Yosuke put his fists firmly on his hips. "Yeah! I'm liking this! Next stop, the island of Okinawa!"
                                                        ~ o ~
Of course, even though at that time Rise was overjoyed, there would be complications. And one of these was pointed out to her by Ebihara after school, when they were stopping off at the Shiroku store just to take a poke around.
"Why didn't you suggest everybody go see Narukami?"
Rise stopped dead with her hand halfway reaching toward a candy bar. "Oh… I… wow, that is a really good point."
"As if I make any other kind," Ai scoffed with a half-smirk. "But yeah… probably a little late now, since you have everybody amped up to go to Okinawa. But hey, there's always summer vacation."
"Yeah, that's true… but I feel incredibly stupid. Seriously, why didn't I think of him first? We all miss him… me most of all, since he's my boyfriend."
The taller girl rolled her eyes as she picked up a bottle of green tea. "Are we going back to that? You can't do anything about it publicly right now, anyway — since the entire world is convinced you're having a 'Class S fling' before you grow up."
The words hit her so hard she had to brace against the wall to keep from pitching over. "You saw that one, huh?"
"All over every tabloid. They really like that outdated way of thinking; like girls can't legitimately want to be with girls for their whole lives. To be honest, I'm a little shocked you aren't being hounded by paparazzi at this exact second. We don't exactly have a lot of LGBT idols."
"Yes, well… there aren't any pictures, so technically, it's just a bunch of gossip from teenage girls. Only had a handful of phone calls about it, and saying 'no comment' to all those seemed to actually stop them. Pretty weird."
"That's because you're all washed up, Kujikawa," she sighed, smirking hard at her. "Yesterday's news. Retired before your time."
"Stooop! Why are you so mean to me?!" She slapped her a few times on the arm, and Ai laughed and held it up to shield herself a little better.
"Kidding! God, take a joke, bitch. But for real… maybe the word isn't out about your comeback yet, so they don't think you're worth being headline news. It will get a lot bigger when you get a lot bigger again."
At least that was a less bleak spin on the situation. Rise smiled over at her as they paid for their odds and ends and headed out. "Fine. I just don't know what difference it makes to you where we go."
"Hey, maybe I want to see Okinawa just as bad as you. Why are you the one that gets to decide everything without my input?"
"Oh, don't be such a…" Then it caught up to her, and she turned with raised eyebrows to look at her girlfriend. "What?"
"You're the one who can't finish her thought. What what?"
"I didn't think you would want to come with us."
Ai scowled as they came to a stop in the middle of the main street, hands on her hips. "You really think you're going on a big Golden Week vacation and I won't want to go with my supposed romantic partner?"
"No, not… I didn't think you would want to go with them. After what happened."
"Mm. I mean, clearly they are complete morons. But… being with you trumps having to put up with their idiotic antics. Besides… you gotta."
Jutting out her chin, she said, "Hey! I don't 'gotta' do anything but stay cute and talented!" Ai only laughed, so she stamped her foot. "Don't you laugh at me!"
"Why not? You're adorable. And anyway, I meant because I'm your giiirlfriend, so how would it look if you showed up there without me? Or if the town spotted me wandering around this week while you're out there living it up. Face it, you really painted yourself into a corner this time, Kujikawa."
Still pouting, she muttered, "Fine, senpai. I guess you know best."
"I do," she replied, mussing her hair up. Rise slapped at her hands and she laughed, and eventually Rise couldn't help laughing as well. "Sorry, I know that's a pain in the ass to fix. But you're just too cute!"
"I am," she admitted with a sigh. "And you're right; I did this whole 'public relationship' thing to get you to listen to me, and it was a dirty trick. This is my punishment. I must accept it diligently."
"Who the hell are you supposed to be now? Wait, you know what? Don't tell me. Let me just believe you lost your goddamn mind." That one earned her a lot more smackings.
                                                        ~ o ~
Everything bumped along easily enough through to the following Saturday. The minute their classes let out, the whole gang was racing home to their already-packed bags, ditching their uniforms, and hopping the train to a bus, to the airport. It was a mess of changeovers and stress, but Naoto had mapped the perfect route that would limit their time spent travelling without costing them extra. Without her, they would have been sunk.
The trip itself took the entire rest of the day. By the time they dragged themselves into their rooms in the rustic inn, they were all ready to fall immediately into bed and be dead to the world for several hours so that the next day they could enjoy themselves. The problem was…
"Wait, where are our beds?!"
Yosuke wasn't wrong. The traditional-looking room most certainly didn't have beds at all. The boy pouted as he dropped his duffel bag and clutched at his hair, scanning every nook and cranny as if one would jump out at him from the shadows.
"This does seem to be very traditional," Yukiko pointed out, scanning the room again. She immediately crossed to the closet and yanked open one of the sliding doors. "Ah! Futon."
"Futon?! Aww, I thought they'd have Western beds! We're on vacation, for cryin' out loud!"
"Don't be such a baby," Chie sighed, stretching her limbs. "Feel more sorry for those of us who don't like sleeping with a bunch of nosy jerks so close to each other. Like you."
While he was pouting and grumbling, Rise glanced between her and the dutiful Yukiko, who was already laying out the futons for everyone without prompting. Falling into her usual job. Chie probably meant that she was upset she wouldn't get much "alone time" with her girlfriend while they were all lying on top of each other. That really was too bad; even if she had barely tasted true love with Narukami, and seen hints of it in a certain affluent team manager, she knew that being kept away from it would likely be as agonising as it sounded.
And speak of the devil…
"Sucks to be you guys."
They all turned at once, and Rise cringed when she noticed everybody else froze. So she tried to be quick about announcing, "Hey, Ebi-chan! You made it!"
"Thank you, Welcoming Committee Of One," she snorted as she glanced around at the rest of them. "And you guys, too. Really doing a great job of making me feel like this trip was worth it."
"You don't have to be here," Chie muttered.
"What's that? It almost sounded like you had something to say, Bowl Cut."
Said bowl cut almost seemed to bristle as Chie rolled up the sleeve of her green jacket and started to stomp over toward her. But Kanji grabbed her by the neckline to hold her back. "Can't you guys save it till tomorrow?" he yawned. "I'm beat."
"Please?" Rise insisted. The tomboy looked like she wanted to protest, but she dropped back to fold her arms over her chest sulkily.
"Beautiful," Ai snorted. "I've just come to collect my property and then I'll head back to my room."
"What property is that?" Rise asked. When Ai pointed at her, she gulped and whispered, "Oh."
"I don't think that's very nice," Yukiko remarked with a slight frown.
Summoning a smile wasn't exactly easy when she was dealing with all those butterflies in her stomach, but Rise managed. "She's kidding, Yuki-chan. Thanks, though."
"Who says I was kidding? If you want me to keep playing along with this media circus, you're my bitch. Get used to it." Then she smirked at the others. "I promise to return her in good condition. Slightly used."
As they headed out, Rise bowing slightly and apologising, she overheard Chie muttering "The nerve of that guy" before the door shut behind them. Great.
"Did you hear that?"
"Yep."
"I'm really sorry. I tried to explain ab-"
"I don't give a shit what Bowl Cut thinks about me. They can all think I'm some drag queen if they want; there are worse things in the world. Like bigots."
"Y-yeah," she laughed nervously. "But I'm kinda hoping… we can all get along during this trip. Maybe they can even be better than-"
"Don't hold your breath."
"I will," she told her, a little frustrated with being cut off so many times. "I'll hold my breath until Golden Week is over if I want to, you aren't the boss of me. No matter what you just told them."
Finally, Ai turned to smirk at her as they walked along toward the other hotel room. She had flown ahead, given that she had access to more swift modes of transportation than the plebs; Rise could have done the same, but she wanted to hang with the group. "Oh, we'll see about that, bitch. But not tonight. Everybody's exhausted."
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah." However, she changed her tune quick when Rise turned on her heel and started walking back the way they came. "Wha- hey!" She jogged a couple of steps to catch up. "Where are you going?"
"Back to crowd into that shitty little room. It's better than being called your bitch every five seconds."
"Hey, whose fault is that? And do you really wanna have a public fight where the paparazzi can see us?"
"I don't even care. Maybe that would be for the best; then it's a public end to the public thing, and you can be an asshole to… to whoever you want, on your own time! So just leave me alone and go… to…"
The hand clamped onto her own gave her pause. The touch was firm but not rough; just enough to keep her from storming any further toward where her friends were getting ready for bed. When Rise didn't try pulling away, she caught up enough to place her other hand on Rise's shoulder.
"I'm sorry."
"For?"
"Wow, you really are a jerk." Ai swallowed hard before continuing, "I'm sorry… for being so… ugh. This is a pain in the ass."
"Then I guess I'm not worth it to you."
"Wow, loaded statement much?" No response, so she pressed ahead, "I'm trying. Okay? I'm just a bitch by default, you know that — and you did some fucked shit to me. Let me work through it if you want to get anywhere."
Rise turned and buried her face in Ai's chest, nuzzling against the side of her neck. The taller girl's breath caught and held fast. "Just be nice to me. Try?"
"Rise…" After a second, her hand drifted up to press into her back, holding her there. "Come on. Let's go get some sleep."
"Yeah." They parted, turned to head for Ai's room… but weren't walking nearly as far apart this time. That was marked progress.
                                                        ~ o ~
The next morning was a lot more interesting than that evening. They were so dead tired that they only got about half their clothes off before crawling into the futons Ai had set up — right next to each other. Her rationale was that if anyone checked the suite, it would support their claim that they were a hot-and-heavy couple. Rise found it hard to argue with that.
However, waking up with a decent-sized boner digging into her hip was a fine hello.
'Oh GOD,' she squealed internally. 'This can't be happening! Ai is all horny and too asleep for me to be able to ask her to cut that out!' In fact, she had tried to dig her elbow into her side, just enough to rouse her; no luck. If she did more than that she was afraid of robbing her of her sleep, or waking her up in a bad mood that might persist for the remainder of the day. Or worse: waking her up and embarrassing her, which she didn't want to do, either.
Then again… she couldn't pretend some part of the reason she didn't wake her was interest. What was it like to touch her directly? Not just petting along it with one finger for half a second — or through underwear and a long t-shirt; she already knew what that felt like, given that she had been dealing with the sensation for about fifteen minutes by now.
The worst part was how her own body was reacting. At first, she was just nervous and maybe a little creeped out, even though her curiosity was always there. But by now… she felt her heart pounding, throat dry, and tingles in places she had rarely felt tingles before. All thanks to a rigid little monster hiding in her girlfriend's panties.
"Wakey-wakey, Ebi-chaaaan," she whispered to the figure slumbering against her side. She really did look so sweet there. So pretty… she wanted to kiss her again. But that wasn't okay! She was asleep. Even though she knew it was a relatively harmless thing to do, she still didn't feel quite right about it.
Maybe she should try to slide out from under her. Yes, that sounded like a much safer idea. Nobody would feel like they had been violated this way. So little by little, she began to inch away from her, keeping her eyes on Ai's flawless features…
"Nnnhh…"
"Hey!" Rise squeaked when the sleeping girl redoubled her grip on her. Shit! She bit her lip, trying to ignore how much closer to a certain area that firm presence was now. Could she find no relief from this personal hell?!
This was supposed to be Narukami. Oh, she had dreamed many times about waking up beside him, letting him see a glimpse of a sexy shoulder before she pulled her kimono on and went to get breakfast. Sometimes, he dragged her back to bed, began to ravage her with kisses. And sometimes…
Well, no, she didn't really imagine sex. That part wasn't as integral to her fantasies; she just wanted to enjoy the physical and emotional intimacy. The act itself might be fun but she wasn't as concerned with that. But from time to time, she did imagine Yu kissing all over her neck, or-
OH NO. Now she was even more tingly and right up against the thing that had instigated these tingles in the first place. This was getting bad! Ai was groaning a little from all the movement but not quite rousing from her slumber. So she was still stuck fast.
"Ebihara, please," she hissed, pushing at her shoulders slightly. The noises got louder. "Hey! Are you in there, somewhere?!"
"Mhhh?" she asked as her hips began to grind a little — and Rise could swear she was seeing stars. This was awakening her body for the first time and she was just starting to wish that this wouldn't stop. "Who… wha?"
When Ai's eyes slit open and she saw Rise was beneath her, she blinked a few times. Rise gulped and grimaced. Then the teen queen began to frown down at her pop star girlfriend as she struggled to come up with a proper greeting.
"Oh. I uh… good… morning?"

Save Me a Seat Next to You
TetsuJun, future fic, friends to lovers, WIP
AU: In which Tetsu attends the University of Hawaii
Also on AO3.
Jun's trip to visit Tetsu in Hawaii, told through the food they eat.
Jun stood with the car door open, shielding his eyes from the sun as he looked up at the sign.
"What's saimin?" he asked.
Tetsu spoke from the driver's side. "It's like ramen."
Jun turned to gape at him. He stepped up onto the lip of the car, bracing himself on the open door so he could see over the roof. Tetsu looked back at him over fading grey paint.
"You want to eat ramen on a day like this?"
There wasn't a cloud in the sky. It was picturesque in a way but it meant there was nothing to ease the force of the sun beating down on them, causing heat to rise from the car roof in waves. Jun was careful not to touch the exterior of the car as he waited for an answer.
Tetsu closed his door. "Saimin," he corrected.
Jun stared at the hint of a smile tugging at the corner of Tetsu's mouth. He hopped down from the car when Tetsu walked away without any hesitation. He shut the car door, hearing the locks engage as he caught up to Tetsu in a few long strides.
"Tetsu," he said, trying for reason. The building was small, the parking lot even smaller. They were at the door to the restaurant in steps. "It's too hot for ramen."
"Saimin," Tetsu repeated.
"Same thing!" Jun argued.
The hint of a smile grew. "Don't let them hear you say that."
"It's too hot to be eating hot noodle soup," Jun said. He was already starting to sweat. The building offered no shade from the sun. "No matter what you call it."
Tetsu stopped with his hand on the door. He actually seemed to consider Jun's argument for a brief and fleeting moment.
"It's really good, Jun," he said before pushing the door open.
"I don't care if-"
Jun came to an abrupt halt just inside the restaurant.
It was small.
It was even smaller than Jun had imagined from the outside. There were only seven tables, most of which were filled, and the walk from the door to the kitchen looked shorter than the walk from the door to Tetsu's car. Size, however, wasn't what Jun took issue with.
It was hot.
It was hotter inside the restaurant than it was outside in the sun.
"Tetsu," Jun hissed, grabbing the back of Tetsu's shirt. "You can't be serious."
Tetsu ignored him in favor of the passing server balancing multiple large bowls on a tray.
"How many?" she asked, in English.
"Two," Tetsu answered.
"You can sit in the corner," she said, nodding in the direction of an open table. "I'll be right with you."
"Thank you."
Tetsu moved to the open table, forcing Jun to follow by simply not looking back. The table was picnic-style with benches and just enough surface area for two people. Jun sat opposite Tetsu with his back to the window where he could feel heat either seeping in or bouncing off the glass; it was impossible to say which it was.
A different server passed their table, dropping off two tall glasses of water without breaking stride. Jun drank greedily from his. His mouth still felt dry from the flight and the heat wasn't helping at all.
Tetsu didn't even touch his glass.
"This is unbelievable, even for you," Jun grumbled, finishing off his water. He leaned over the table, lowering his voice because the restaurant was so small. "Why is it so hot in here? Why isn't there air conditioning?"
Tetsu shrugged and took a short drink from his glass.
"Can we go somewhere with air conditioning?"
"It's really good, Jun."
Jun narrowed his eyes at Tetsu as a server came by to refill his glass of water. He knew Tetsu could be stubborn but eating ramen/saimin/whatever in what was essentially a cement box on a hot August day was really taking it to new heights.
He shook his head, reaching for his water as annoyance blended into nostalgia.
Tetsu had never been one for limits.
"Where's the menu?" he asked.
Tetsu turned in his seat and pointed at the wall behind him.
Jun looked up at the eight item menu. There weren't even options. Hot noodle soup, be it saimin or udon, with or without won tons, was the only thing the restaurant served. That didn't seem to bother Tetsu, who was giving the lack of options more thought than necessary, or any of the other customers bent over steaming bowls. They ate with vigor, impervious to the heat.
Maybe it really was good.
Jun's gaze wandered, falling from the menu board to Tetsu.
Two years had done little to change him.
Tetsu still kept his hair short, he still held himself with a posture that rivaled most soldiers. He might've gotten taller but then so had Jun; the additional height seemed relative making it not much of a change at all. He still spoke with purpose. He still surprised Jun with flashes of humor when he least expected it.
The only thing that marked the passage of time, distinguishing the Tetsu in front of him from the Tetsu in his memory, was the shirt Tetsu wore, white with green script spelling out 'Hawaii Baseball' across his chest.
New school, same Tetsu.
It was achingly familiar in the best and worst ways.
"What can I get you?"
The question yanked Jun out of his thoughts. The restaurant came back into focus and he saw both the server who sat them, now standing at the table, and Tetsu looking at him.
"You go first," he said, throwing the attention at Tetsu.
"Can I have a large won ton min and three barbeque sticks?" said Tetsu.
The attention returned to Jun faster than he liked.
"I'll have the same," he said, in English.
It was the safest option as it was the shortest answer. It also saved him from having to admit that he hadn't looked at the menu long enough to choose something.
The server left with a nod. Another one passed by and refilled Jun's glass of water.
Tetsu was still looking at him.
"Your English is fine," he said, half a smile holding firm on one side of his face.
Jun crossed his arms and slouched against the wall. "It was four words."
"They were fine."
Jun looked around the small space for a distraction. He reached for his water, putting it down again without taking a drink.
"Are you sure it's okay for me to stay at the house?" he asked.
Tetsu nodded. "I checked with Skip again, like you asked, and he said it's fine. There's plenty of room."
"Are you sure?" Jun pressed. The arrangements had been made months ago but he still felt unsettled. "I don't need my own room. I can sleep on the couch or the floor."
"The room's empty," Tetsu said. "You're not putting anyone out. Mason moved out in May after graduation and Skip hasn't found someone to fill it yet. It's okay, Jun."
"Skip said it was fine?"
"Skip said if you stayed in a hotel, he'd be insulted."
Jun laughed. "I guess we don't want that."
Tetsu shook his head. "No, we don't."
Jun still had questions - both Tetsu and his roommate were cagey whenever he asked about paying for his accommodations - but he was cut off by the arrival of their food.
The server returned carrying a full tray expertly on one arm. She dropped napkins, disposable chopsticks, soup spoons, and two shoyu dishes with a dollop of mustard each on the table before carefully setting down two large, steaming bowls. One plate with six barbeque sticks, a dark sauce pooling at the bottom, concluded the presentation.
"Can I get you anything else?" she asked, tucking the empty tray under her arm.
"No," Tetsu said. "This is great. Thank you."
Jun looked down at his bowl.
He could see the differences right away.
The noodles were a different color from the ramen he was used to, darker with a yellow hue and a texture that reminded him of chow mein. The broth was light and clear, he could see through it to the bottom of the bowl, but the aroma was still rich and warm and oddly secretive; it wasn't obvious what meat was used to flavor it. Aside from the requested won tons sitting among the noodles, the toppings were simple: chopped char siu and a generous serving of green onions.
Jun broke his chopsticks and took a cautious first bite.
He shook his head as the unnecessary warmth spread through him.
He hated when Tetsu was right.
Jun knew he was being watched so he ate more, using his spoon to scoop up one of the won tons. It was heavy with filling and had a good bite to the dough. It paired perfectly with the clear, mystery broth. He had another and a few mouthfuls of noodles before he reached for his water, reluctantly meeting Tetsu's waiting eyes.
"It's really good," he conceded.
Tetsu smiled.
"That doesn't mean I like sweating while I eat," Jun said, pointing his soup spoon at him. "Next time: air conditioning."
"Okay," Tetsu said with a nod.
They ate in companionable silence, the slurping sounds from their table adding to the easy chorus of eating in the restaurant. Tetsu poured shoyu into each of their shoyu dishes, less in Jun's and more in his, dipping his won tons into the cloudy shoyu-mustard mix. Their server returned to fill both glasses of water. She also left a check face down on the table which Tetsu slid into his lap when he thought Jun wasn't looking.
"I saw that," he said, holding his bowl in both hands.
"They only take cash," Tetsu said, tapping shoyu-mustard onto a won ton, "and you don't have the right currency."
"We're going to a bank after this," Jun muttered.
Tetsu didn't respond. Jun, beyond reason, drank deep from his soup.
He picked up a barbeque stick. It was heavier than he expected, thin slices of beef folded and threaded onto a bamboo skewer, charred to a pleasant black on the outermost edges. He glanced at Tetsu and the rest of the restaurant before ripping a piece off with his teeth, following the example set for him. The meat was well-cooked, smoky in a way that could only come from grilling. The sauce had a sweet, tangy flavor he recognized but couldn't name.
Jun was halfway through his third stick when he noticed Tetsu had stopped eating.
"What?" he asked, wiping sweat from his brow.
Tetsu set his chopsticks down on the edge of his bowl, noodles sinking back into the broth.
"I'm glad you're here, Jun," he said, softly but as clear as the heat of the day. "It's really good to see you."
Jun looked down at his nearly empty bowl.
He could blame the warmth creeping up the back of his neck on the saimin, or the restaurant, or the sun beating in through the window behind him. It was more than plausible, anyone would believe it.
He almost believed it himself.
Jun dragged his spoon through his bowl once to watch the broth stir and settle. He looked up, meeting Tetsu's steady gaze, and nostalgia melted into something he thought he'd successfully packed away.
"It's really good to see you too."

3. Social Darwinism
Tumblr media
A rash has slightly developed on your neck where the sun hit it just right without the defense of your coat. It was very uncomfortable but you didn’t let it bother you, instead focusing ahead outside the window. After your shopping trip with Jaehyun, you felt like it was time to go home even though you wanted to stay longer and didn’t want to be trapped in that house.
It’s been weeks since the wedding but you felt like it was longer.
The car stopped, the driver stepping out and walking over to your side before opening your door so that you can get off.
“Your highness,” he greeted before bowing and extending his hand out for you to take.
You gratefully nodded and grasped his gloved hand to step out of the vehicle, adjusting the sunglasses that has fallen to the bridge of your nose. The chauffeur went to the trunk to retrieve your shopping bags and luggage from your trip to France.
The smell of the daisies and the roses from the garden out back was so strong that you were sure anyone, even without super senses, could smell it.
You loved the smell of roses.
Heels clacking against the marble floor of the entrance hallway, the maids stopped in their tracks and hastily bowed 90 degrees upon the sight of you. As you raised your hand to take of your sunglasses, some of them visibly flinched and it unconsciously placed a smirk on your face.
You’re worked so hard to be feared and you have lost so much to be at the status you are now and you weren’t going to let that go to waste because of a stupid little boy.
The butler, whom you now know as Jun, led a few footmen who were carrying your luggage and stopped a few feet behind you. With a flick of his gloved hand, the maids were dismissed and they scurried away from the sight of you.
“Take these to the Head Maid and she will take them to Her Highness’ room.” The footmen nodded and wandered off to the old woman waiting by the staircase. Jun stepped in front of you and smiled kindly before raising an arm. “If you could follow me, your Highness. The Prince has requested your attendance to the drawing room.”
Upon walking down the hallway with gold-painted walls, you could feel the eyes of the portraits that hung up high. Although they weren’t even supposed to be real, the judgeful eyes of the past ancestors of the Orenda kingdom seemed to follow you and you could even hear their hateful whispers and hisses.
‘Kalon blood, on our territory?’
‘Perish and repay the lives lost of our House for yours!’
‘Dirty blood mixed with ours will taint the House line for eternity!’
The whispers weren’t even there but the creation of your imagination as you could feel yourself slowly slipping away to insanity with this forceful arrangement that altered your life forever. With the gender you were born with and the belief that no woman could rule a kingdom, the only way you could have what you wanted was to ally yourself with your rival House.
But the only way you’ll keep your sanity is to play wisely and not hesitate to let him burn for the benefit of you.
Pushing open the tall oak wood doors, you were a little startled at the amount of faces when you only expected one, your husband’s. Even without getting to formally know them, it was still your duty as a royal to be familiar with all of them as they were all princes from various kingdoms of your world. From the honey-haired boy to the ridiculously bright orange-haired prince, the only thing that they all had in common was the bright red eyes.
The stark difference between the twin princes of the Cerilian House was enough to show the diversity of the line of their ancestors. Situated in the Indian Ocean, their kingdom could easily prey on poor fishermen filled with luscious human blood.
Born with platinum hair, Lee Jeno always stood out from the rest of the 4 Lee princes and combined with his defined facial structure, he became feared and his ruthlessness was enough to make him Jaemin’s right man. He was the one Jaemin called first regarding the ambush attack on his family from House Pezzerio and together, they became the most feared duo in the Underworld. Even though he rarely spoke during council meetings, Jeno’s eyes always held whatever he wanted to be expressed and he was known to always keep an eye out for his brothers and the crown prince, Taeyong. Rumor has it that Jeno’s eyes and ears are so sharp, he could easily detect a traitor from across the room. There is no definite answer as to if this was true but who do you think was supplying his brother, Donghyuck, his toys?
Meanwhile, Lee Donghyuck stayed in the shadows. Known as the playboy prince, he often stayed away from his kingdom, preferring to spend his time in Tuscany with human girls to feast on. The melanin, honey haired boy wouldn’t even be thought of as a vampire, much less a vampire prince, due to his soft features. However, out of the 4 princes, he was the most cruel. He saw the world and its people, human or Underworlders, as toys and nothing but his source of enjoyment in this dark world he lived in. Like his brother Jeno, their smile could be saying one thing but their eyes were always very honest, especially if it didn’t reach their eyes. With a dangerously playful nature, Donghyuck participated in the torture of war criminals and traitors of House Cerilian and had a thirst for the look of intense pain from the enemy as he used his lighter to tease the fragile vampire skin.
House Dormir was placed on the East China Sea, extending to the North Pacific Ocean and ending near Hawaii. With the vast territory, their kingdom usually split up in 2 different sections with 2 princes who co-ruled the kingdom. With the Orendian and Kalonian kingdom being smaller even when combined, House Dormir was known to sometimes challenge the authority of the Capital just because of the size of their territory.
Being a direct ancestor of the original line of Dormir kings, Zhong Chenle became powerful even before he turned 12. The death of his King father and older brother urged his mother to make him mature quicker with plans of ascending the throne by his 18th birthday but he wasn’t prepared. Rebelling against his mother and doing anything he can to piss her off, he teamed up with Jisung and constantly did childish things to make their immaturity known. Showing up with orange hair definitely caught the attention of the council and they knew this little boy was going to bring Dormir’s downfall. In came the 3 older princes: Jaemin, Donghyuck, and Jeno. At first, he was being used as a pawn for the Orendian Kingdom and the Cerilian Kingdom wanted to take over his large territory and split it for themselves. But Chenle was smarter than that and he threatened the 3 enough that they stopped the expansion, instead becoming close to the boy after seeing themselves in him.
However, this couldn’t be done without the help of Chenle’s cousin and the future ruler of the other half of Dormir, Renjun. With his quick wit and intelligent way of thinking, Renjun helped Chenle play many wars to get what he wanted. Not knowing if he was going to be trusted, Chenle was suspicious but Renjun has made it clear with his clear intentions as he only wants to rule alongside Chenle. After all, with Chenle by his side, everyone was forced to submit to him due to the power his family has. Known as the Night Raven, after his famous midnight colored hair, Renjun called the shots whether captured criminals got to live another day or not. He knew exactly where someone’s weakness was and would mercilessly torture them with it, all with a smile on his face. Let’s just say, him and Donghyuck get along very well.
Last but not least, the little pink haired boy. Known as the last surviving son of House Vermille, Park Jisung built a strong connection to Zhong Chenle and by association, became connected to the rest. You knew him ever since you were little and saw him as a little boy in the parties you were forced to attend and his mousy features that have defined itself due to his growth. You always remembered him as the boy with the sharpest teeth as whenever he smiled, he would accidentally cut his bottom lip and him sheepishly smiling afterwards. His innocent and adolescent nature made you feel nostalgic because you wanted to take him under your wing since he was so young. With just turning 140 a few months ago, Jisung was by far the youngest crown prince and the least capable. You vaguely remembered when he turned 115, he reached the age of intense hunger and he wiped out an entire French village thus almost causing a war with Metanoia. But, your family stopped the war because House Kalon, too, had territory in France and they didn’t want to jeopardize the alliance they’ve made to the kingdom in the Atlantic Ocean near Languo.
Of course, you knew them.
The perfect plan to obtain Underworld domination was to start a fire in this room as it contained the most powerful people in the Underworld.
All of the boys studied you and you cracked a smirk, crossing your arms across your chest. “Well, hello boys,” you greeted with a sultry tone.
Closing the door behind you, you stopped short by the end of the oval wood table that seated your husband at the head. Making eye contact with him, Jaemin smiled before he stood up and walked over to you, arms wrapping around your middle and pressing a slow kiss to your temple.
“Hello, darling. How was your trip?” Jaemin asked with a sickeningly sweet tone that made you wretch inside.
Placing a gentle hand on his strong bicep, you peered up at him through your lashes. “Enjoyable, but not pleasing enough.” You answered with a smile but grit your teeth and squeezed his arm the hardest you could and his smile fell, replaced with a hardened expression.
Oh, he is going to destroy you later.
“You could’ve told me your little friends were coming. I could’ve came back earlier and arranged for scones,” you gazed at the others who wore faint amused smirks at the interaction in front of them.
Jaemin’s gaze remained on your face and you felt it piercing through your cheeks, “There was a human boy found wandering the woods. He will serve as our refreshment.”
Nodding silently, you took a seat beside Jisung and laced your fingers together. “So what has brought you all to this side of town?”
“Malor just lost an entire noble family in England a few days ago from vampire hunting. They planned to stay in Yorkshire for a few months for vacation but word got around of their true identity and burned their vacation home. The Council wants to know our opinion about it and the family wants us to deal with it. Something about this being a trial run for the future.” Jeno explained as he visibly tried to get comfortable while crossing his legs.
Jaemin nods and he returns to his seat and leans back, brushing his long fingers through his hair. You unknowingly licked your lips at the action and only noticed your behavior as he caught your eye and looked at you teasingly. You coughed and held your right hand out to examine your nail.
“Well, Malor is quite known for their, should I say -idiotic- elites. Vacationing in a country that has vampire stories riding the winds and not expecting to be hunted with no hesitation? Consider me improper but they deserved their demise.”
Donghyuck let out a dry chuckle and rested his elbows on the table, resting his chin on his right hand. “I must say, princess. I never considered you as the deserving justice type.”
You returned his cheeky smile with a wink, “If I were to rule the Underworld, I would make sure the weak and stupid ones were gone first, right? It would be better if it wasn’t done by my hand.”
“Applying Social Darwinism to your court? A bold yet risky move,” Renjun commented, eyeing you curiously.
It must be odd seeing a woman speak so rashly and freely about topics like these, much less a royal woman.
“Our world can only survive if we get rid of weaklings. Sorry, but I don’t make the rules.”
Chuckles surrounded the table and even Jeno had to suppress the smile that threatened to come out. Jaemin looked at you once more and he started to think differently of what he originally thought was a privileged, spoiled brat who only wanted the crown of jewels on her head, not the responsibility.
It was the good kind of different.
“Well, because of that rash attitude, the union of your houses has caused quite an uproar with an underground resistance that is forming in the Capital as we speak. The war from years ago is still fresh in the minds of many and are outraged at the outcome of the 2 kingdoms. Word has it that they are planning an attack and it is even sponsored by other kingdoms as well. My men have no guaranteed answers and no direct evidence for the suspected Houses or whether the attack is directed to you or to us by association.” You eyed Jeno curiously and noticed the strong aura he radiated. It felt familiar but strangely ominous and made you nervous.
“Well, why don’t we catch them now? We know there’s a rebellion happening and we know that they’re planning something. Are we just going to stand and wait for it to happen?” Jisung argued and Chenle nodded in agreement, looking at the faces of the elders.
You turned to him and placed a manicured hand on Jisung’s shoulder. “Don’t worry, little mouse. A lesson about war, it is in your best interest for the enemy to come to you. Thinking on your feet is the best way to win and as a bonus, requires less thinking which should be beneficial for you.”
“So, what you’re saying is, they should come to us rather than us going to them?” Chenle asked curiously, confused by this battle tactic.
You nodded, “Precisely.”
“If they are planning something, it’s only natural for you two to be the target since you’re the future king and queen. Someone might be taken as an exchange for you but it’s suspected and there might be a way to escape that,” Renjun commented.
You frowned, slightly confused and even a little shocked at what they were saying. “Don’t focus on only the two of us. All of you are princes as well and it’s only wrong for you to be thinking about our safety. Regard your titles as you are also a royal member of your respective kingdoms. Any action placed upon you can cause a war and a rebellion amongst the people and give them more power. The last thing we need is an internal conflict that could possibly weaken us.”
But Jaemin grinned cynically, razor sharp teeth on display. “Oh, darling, you don’t have to think about that. If something were to happen to my boys, with the combination of our armies, we could crush anything. I could feel a revolution running through my veins and with the help of them, we could destroy those other treacherous kingdoms.”
“So what do you have in mind, Jaems? What could bring them to us?” Donghyuck asked, lazily playing with a stain on the wood.
Both you and Jaemin looked at each other and you scoffed as you seem to be thinking what he was thinking.
“An auction. Human auction.” He answered and Donghyuck smiled happily, eager to find more beings to play with.
“There is no certainty that we will find a King that is sponsoring this rebellion but it could give us a good idea that could help narrow it down. We must not be rash about this situation but we must be on high-alert as well.” Nods were sent to you and Jaemin sent you an approving nod.
“Well there we have it! We got a plan, we execute the said plan, and we live happily ever after! Huzzah!” Donghyuck exclaimed, rising out of his seat.
But Jeno tugged down his shirt and made him fall back on his seat again. “Not so fast, Dongie. We still have to talk about your magical adventure in Milan that caused a few dozens of missing girls’ cases to appear.”
You stood up, brushing invisible dust off of your skirt. “As much as I would love to ask about your insane thirst for young, virgin maidens, Donghyuck, I do have a party to plan.”
“But it’s not a party,” Jaemin remarked. You scoffed and sent him a manic smile.
“With wine, cocaine, and blood? Oh, yes, my love. It is a party.”
The bed creaked as a series of powerful thrusts of his hips snapped towards you, making you whine and gasping for air. Your arms were starting to give out, letting Jaemin hold you up by your waist and continue slamming himself into you. Sweat gathered on his forehead and left his luscious blonde locks to plaster themselves against his porcelain skin.
“I” thrust
“Am” thrust
“Your” thrust
“King” thrust
“Understand?” thrust
A high-pitched whine left your lips as he sunk deeper into you, relishing the satisfaction of him touching you places you couldn’t even fathom was possible.
Not hearing your response, Jaemin let one of his hands go and swiftly twisted your hair into a make-shift ponytail and tugged you close, lifting you so you were against his chest and on his lap. The sudden action made you scream since he sank even deeper.
“I said, understand?” He hissed and you couldn’t even control yourself, whining and moaning at the sharp thrusts.
“Yes, my king.”
“Good.”

Keychain
The days are always painted a monochrome grey, showcasing the dullness in this life. It was when my mother told me to clean my room, one spring afternoon, that those grey days got a little brighter. For once, during my rebellious phase, I complied and begrudgingly done so, unaware of the surprise I was about to unravel.
It felt like a trip down memory lane when I started finding things I lost. Like an old toy under my bed, or some baby pictures hidden between the books on the shelf. But nothing really hit me with nostalgia until I found an old keychain. It was a silver plated pendant of a jade and black painted gecko, with Hawaii engraved on it. I instantly bursted into tears.
Since a child, I’ve always been neglected by my father. Despite this, it was considered normal growing up as I had become accustomed to it. When I was eight, I entered the third grade and found my athletic ability during gym class. This caught the attention of my gym teacher, Coach, who urged me to play volleyball on his team. I tried it out and we both realized I was a natural. Since then, I’ve practiced every day with him and his team for years.
During that time, we bonded on a level higher than just a teacher and student. Coach taught me things a father would; honesty, passion and kindness. I would come to him for advice or to have a shoulder to cry on. Coach was there at every art show or theatre play to support me. He taught me how to bike in the summer with our team, and brought me snacks in the morning when I forgot to eat. When I embarrassed myself for falling down during a school ceremony, he came in and fell down too.
So every spring break, Coach comes back with little gifts for the team. It was always souvenirs from Hawaii-- and it was always gecko related. That one year in ninth grade, Coach brought gecko keychains back. These were the most beautiful ones yet.
The next year, Coach broke his ribs and couldn’t continue his club that year. Instead of visiting him and checking up on him, I began to focus on my new social life. I was so mesmerized with the partying and new friends, I forgot about Coach. He quit his volleyball career without telling me, but continued to send me wishes on every holiday.
On a cold December day, Coach sent me a text that said: “Merry Christmas. Thank you for always being a good child. Stay safe this holiday and hope to see you soon. Love you”. The day after, Coach passed away from battling with cancer. To this day, I still felt guilty for never keeping in touch. I put the keychain deep in the corner of my drawer and the days are back painted a monochrome grey, showcasing the dullness in my life.

“Oh my god I can’t breath” Olive giggled, crumbling into Eliott’s lap. Her husband smiled down at her gently playing with her hair.
“This is serious Olive!” Eliott said, his smile melting away to a very strained serious one. His dark brown eyes studying her face, “it’s the greatest story ever told. Guy dates a woman, woman’s ex is a mob boss who is involved in illegal fashion, mob boss’s daughter almost gets killed.
“How much romance will there be if the daughter is 12 yearsold.”
“Well romance and character stuff.” she shrugged, “And you can add in all the poorly done dummy blow ups you want.”
“I will” Eliott said nodded, “But only if I can use sex dolls.”
“Like, Hard Ticket to Hawaii ? Oh wait!

“ So just be ready ” Kirishima said, prepping the gang, “She’s… the same but different.
At the sound of his voice Olive looked up and waved, a smile on her face as she looked over at the group of others standing with them.
“ I didn’t, you did .” he said as everyone around him winched slightly.
“ Yeah we have wine and Rupaul's Drag race nights. I think the last one we did was about a month ago wasn’t it? ” the last statement, more of a question then a comment.
Also they were both addicted to “Unbreakable Kimmy Shimitt”
“ Thank you, I’m Momo '' the dark haired hero said, noticing how much Olive was struggling trying to piece together who was who. Before they had come Momo and her fiancee Shoto Todoroki had decided to treat her like they had met for the first time. “ and this is Shodo my fiancee .”
“ I’m Mina! ” Mina said quickly and everyone else followed suit with a quick round of introductions.
“ Yeah I have pictures ” Olive lit up at the introduction. “The fair.”
“ What picture did you have ?” Momo asked, leaning forward.
“ This one of the fair? ” Olive said, holding up the phone leaning over the table to hand her the phone. Watching them Kirishima chuckled leaning toward Bakugou.
“ Why are they across the table from each other?”
Bakugou shrugged, rolling his eyes, not shocked by the poor seating choices. After coordinating this whole night was he really now in charge of seating as well?
“ Oh that was so fun.

Books Read In 2020: The Why
In a tradition I accidentally started for myself in 2016 and now quite enjoy, at the end of the year I look back at my reading list and answer the question, why did you read this particular book?
Below, my 100 reads of 2020 are split into groups by target readership age, plus nonfiction at the end, now with a bonus note about how I heard of it. Which I probably won’t continue to do next year, but it was fun to try.
ADULT FICTION
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I read each of these books because...
A Glitter of Gold - Liz Johnson. 2019. It had me at "her pirate tour business," but between the shipwreck & the museum-director love interest it was like BLOOD & TREASURE ROMANCE AU LET'S GOOO.
How I heard of it: a book blog
The Last Woman in the Forest - Diane Les Becquets. 2019.   Recommended by a dog lover; I'm down for a thriller about a woman who has a dream dog-inclusive job like this.
How I heard of it: a book blog
Good Omens - Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman. 1990. I really enjoyed the miniseries and wanted to see if the book everyone loved so much was as good (for the record: it was not. at least not if you’ve seen the miniseries first; otherwise they are probably equal).
This Is Home - Lisa Duffy. 2019. Attractive cover + I flipped it open to a random page and just liked the writing style.
How I heard of it: library
Dear Mr. Knightley - Katherine Reay. 2013. I'd had this on the back burner for a while because the MC sounded like me, and one day I got sick of not being able to find any fluffy contemporary romances with beta male heroes and decided Matthew Gray Gubler was gonna star in this one. (spoiler alert: it is a good book but that did not work)
How I heard of it: a book blog
Rubbernecker - Belinda Bauer. 2013. Criminal Minds sent me into a tailspin so I went hunting for books to cast Spencer Reid in again; the Asperger's/case-solving/difficult relationship with mother combo sounded promising. (spoiler alert: the med-student element + his social cluelessness proved too strong and I was only able to picture the kid from The Good Doctor)
How I heard of it: Googling keywords
The Swiss Affair - Emylia Hall. 2013. I got a random hankering for a student/teacher novel, and after scrutinizing the library catalog this was the only one that fit my parameters for gender, lack of adultery, and focus on romance over sex.
How I heard of it: library
Love At First Bark - Debbie Burns. 2019. I was trying to cast Wes/Jules [Dollface] in a romance novel, so I browsed through a Goodreads friend's "dog-romance" shelf and accidentally landed in a Jeid AU [Criminal Minds]. Which may or may not have been a large part of what turned me into a Jeid shipper (outside canon only).
The Mermaids Singing - Val McDermid. 1995. One final attempt to cast Reid in a novel -- a user in a Reddit post asking for this very thing suggested this, and "profiler with idiosyncracies" certainly fit.
The Wire in the Blood [and 9 subsequent novels] - Val McDermid, spanning 1997-2019. Turns out aside from being British, Reid paints onto Tony Hill EXCEPTIONALLY well, and I accidentally found myself with a little Jeid AU in the process, so obviously I read the entire series. Good crime-solving fun and all that.
Horse - Talley English. 2018. Random library pull because I connected with the writing style and it appeared to actually focus on horses.
How I heard of it: library
A Sparkle of Silver - Liz Johnson. 2018. I liked the author's other book and this was pretty much a remix of the same story, but now with a cool mansion/estate setting.
How I heard of it: looking up other books by this author
Everyone Is Beautiful - Katherine Center. 2009. Went looking for stories about strong marriages, found this on a Goodreads list of "second chance marriage" books, tripped into something like a season 9 Jim/Pam scenario. How I heard of it: Googling keywords
The Lost Husband - Katherine Center. 2013. Loved the previous book of hers I read, and the "starting life over on a goat farm" angle sounded like an ideal life to try on.
How I heard of it: looking up more from this author
The Shadow Year - Hannah Richell. 2013. Fixing up an old house?? I am THERE. Doing this in two timelines, one of which involves off-the-grid homesteading, is even better.
How I heard of it: used book sale
Mandrake Root - Janet Diebold. 1946. I needed a non-library book to bring on vacation, and after spinning in circles over what I thought would appeal to my mood in that setting, my brain randomly said "reread this one."
How I heard of it: estate sale
Path of the Jaguar - Vickie Britton & Loretta Jackson. 1989. Bought cheap for cheap thrills: a Yucatan adventure/mystery. Read now so I could get rid of it. How I heard of it: library sale
Burying Water - K.A. Tucker. 2014. The library didn't have The Simple Wild, but they DID have a book w/ an equally pretty cover that talked about a badly beaten young amnesiac (!) recovering on a horse farm (!!). What is: my top romance trope (hurt/comfort, bonus points for animals and rural setting).
How I heard of it: library
Happiness for Beginners - Katherine Center. Established quality author + summertime hiking inspiration.
How I heard of it: looking up more from this author
The Visitors - Simon Sylvester. Cool cover + setting, and a teenage protagonist usually makes adult fiction more accessible. How I heard of it: Goodreads
Becoming Rain - K.A. Tucker. 2014. I was in this companion novel solely for mentions of Alex and any people by the last name of Wells, but figured I might as well read all of it to ensure I didn't miss any. How I heard of it: looking up more from this author
The Guest List - Lucy Foley. 2020. Honestly, it just sounded like a cool thriller (and cool setting). How I heard of it: a book blog
You Deserve Nothing - Alexander Maksik. 2011. Fell down a Will/Rachel [Glee] rabbit hole and ravaged the student/teacher keyword in my library catalog again to scratch the itch.
The Haunting of Hill House - Shirley Jackson. 1959. Mom's been trying to get me to read this for years, and this time when it came up in conversation it was the right time of year, so I randomly decided to give it a shot. How I heard of it: Mom
The Walker in Shadows - Barbara Michaels. 1979. Gothic ghost story + beautiful architectural details in a historic house = yeah!
How I heard of it: Goodwill
YOUNG ADULT
Tumblr media Tumblr media
People Like Us - Dane Mele. 2018. Needed an audiobook; a girls' boarding school murder mystery seemed most likely to hold my attention of the limited options. How I heard of it: Library
The Possibility of Now - Kim Culbertson. 2016. I will read anything by this author, and girl having a meltdown over a test = me. How I heard of it: looking up other books by this author
Rob&Sara.com - P.J. Petersen & Ivy Ruckman. 2004. Mostly I wanted to go back to my high school days and enjoy the format of a novel written in emails, but also, I like Ruckman. How I heard of it: used book sale
For Real - Alison Cherry. 2014. Fictional Amazing Race!! + awesome summery cover + sisters How I heard of it: library sale
The Summer After You + Me - Jennifer Salvato Doktorski. 2015. The awesome summery cover, mostly. How I heard of it: a book blog
You'd Be Mine - Erin Hahn. 2019. Gorgeous cover + the chance to vicariously follow a budding young country music star on tour for the summer.
How I heard of it: a book blog
Juniors - Kaui Hart Hemmings. 2015. The neat setting(s): a live-in guest on a wealthy estate in Hawaii. How I heard of it: Dollar store
Lion Boy's White Brother - Alden G. Stevens. 1951. Bought cheap because vintage juvenile book in a unique setting. Read now to see if I could get rid of it (NOPE).
How I heard of it: used bookstore
The O.C.: Spring Break - Aury Wallington. 2005. I keep meaning to finish this short series, and it was an easy title to count for my Mount TBR challenge.
How I heard of it: used book sale
Echo Island - Edward Karlow. 2017. Bought cheap because of the beautiful summery cover; easy read for Mount TBR so I could get rid of it. How I heard of it: library sale
Confessions of a High School Disaster - Emma Chastain. 2017. Read because of THE SUPER CUTE SUMMERY COVER (and diary format).
How I heard of it: Dollar store
Kentucky Daughter - Carol J. Scott. 1985. Working my way down the “Inappropriate Student/Teacher Relationships in YA" list because I'm in that kind of mood this year; chose this because 80s books tend to deliver the subject best*, the character reminded me of the girl in Send No Blessings, and Open Library had it. *this one was just blatant sexual harassment, though, and belonged very literally on that list
How I heard of it: Goodreads
What They Always Tell Us - Martin Wilson. 2008. I sorted the library catalog to see the oldest contemporary YA novels they still have before they get weeded, and "loner being taken under the wing of his older brother's (male) friend and falling in love with him" hit a couple of good tropes. How I heard of it: library
Bobby's Watching - Ted Pickford. 1993. Browsing around on OpenLibrary and saw they FINALLY had a copy of this book that scared me too much to finish as a kid, and which I've wanted to revisit ever since I remembered what it's called (Interlibrary Loan doesn't have it and it's Not Cheap to buy).
How I heard of it: library
Powwow Summer - Nahanni Shingoose. 2019. Always interested in modern-day Indigenous girls connecting w/ their heritage, especially if they're from my home state's tribe.
How I heard of it: a book blog
The Princesses of Iowa - M. Molly Backes. 2012. Appealing cover + heft suggesting a solid Midwestern contemporary, plus I liked the student teacher element (without a slash this time, as in "college student who is almost a teacher")
How I heard of it: library
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants - Ann Brashares. 2001. The Second Summer of the Sisterhood - Ann Brashares. 2003.
Long-intended reread of a college fave because I wanted see Mike Vogel in the movie, and it was summer so the stars aligned. Continued because the first book was as good as I remembered. (I would have kept going but Life distracted me for a bit and by the time I was back on track, it was no longer summer) How I heard of it: I...can't remember. Am the worst!
The Distance From Me To You - Marina Gessner a.k.a. Nina de Gramont. 2015. Hiking inspiration + an appealing-sounding romance. How I heard of it: Goodreads
Where Have All the Tigers Gone? - Lynn Hall. 1989. Will read any of her books, but specifically read this one because it seemed fairly autobiographical, and I read it NOW because it seemed durable enough to take on vacation. How I heard of it: looking up books by this author
And Both Were Young - Madeline L'Engle. 1949 (text of 1983 edition w/ material from original manuscript added back). Something reminded me of its existence and I requested it because it was the only non-animal-focused vintage teen novel I could physically get my hands on before Interlibrary Loan opened back up, and I had a craving for just that.
How I heard of it: library
The Other Side of Lost - Jessi Kirby. 2018. Established quality author + throw me ALL the thru-hike novels!
How I heard of it: Goodreads
The Vow - Jessica Martinez. 2013. Perfect scenario to run an Abed/Annie [Community] AU!
How I heard of it: I want to say...an article on a book website (not personal blog this time) back in 2013.
Moon and Me - Hadley Irwin. 1981. Was just in the mood to read an 80s teen novel and this one helped me knock off a title for the Mount TBR challenge. From an author I like, w/ bonus horse content.
How I heard of it: used book sale.
Suicide Notes From Beautiful Girls - Lynn Weingarten. 2015. I bought a blind bag at the library sale and this was one of the only contemporary YA novels in it; figured I might as well read it since I'd liked a previous book of hers.
How I heard of it: Library
History Is All You Left Me - Adam Silvera. 2016.
With the Glee rabbit hole came a Klaine spiral; this was my season 4 Tragic AU dream for them and I've been saving it for a Klainey day ever since it was published. (No I am not sorry for that horrid pun.)
How I heard of it: googling keywords
The Museum of Heartbreak - Meg Leder. 2016. The cool cover/concept of a "museum" of items reeled me in; I bought a copy a while ago 'cause the library didn't have it. Read now to see if I could get rid of it (NOPE).
How I heard of it: Goodreads
Me & Mr. J - Rachel McIntyre. 2015. Student/teacher novel that looked especially appealingly tame so I'd been saving it, but then Open Library notified me it was now only available in 1-hour increments, and I got paranoid it would disappear altogether (it's not cheap to buy or available via ILL), so I wanted it in my brain.
How I heard of it: Goodreads
Dear Evan Hansen - Val Emmich w/ Steven Levenson, Benj Pasek & Justin Paul. 2018. Fell in love with the DEH soundtrack. Play's summary sounded good -- getting to experience it in YA novel form?? Amazing.
How I heard of it: Wikipedia
Saddle a Thunderbolt - Jo Sykes. 1967
Bought a while ago because vintage horse story. Read now specifically to alleviate my pre-homesickness about moving by imagining living in an even more beautiful place than home.
How I heard of it: either a used book sale or a used bookstore...
Learning to Breathe - Janice Lynn Mather. 2018. This was mentioned on a lost-book forum and "girl with unplanned pregnancy supports herself by getting a job cleaning" piqued my interest; the setting (Bahamas) and cover made it better.
How I heard of it: Reddit
Everglades Adventure - James Ralph Johnson. 1970. Standard vintage boys' adventure-in-nature story; I like those.
How I heard of it: Goodwill
CHILDREN’S/MIDDLE GRADE
Tumblr media
Little Women - Louisa May Alcott. 1868. Seeing the new movie and falling head over heels was what it took to FINALLY convince me to reread this childhood fave.
How I heard of it: can't remember; I was a kid
A Little Princess - Frances Hodgson Burnett. 1905. I was perusing a lot of books about classic children's books and it started to bug me that I had skipped this appealing-sounding one as a kid.
How I heard of it: can't remember; I was a kid
Little Men - Louisa May Alcott. 1871. LW sparked a fandom revival and I wanted more detail about the Marches' adult lives (esp. Jo & Bhaer), even on the fringes.
How I heard of it: library
Lady and the Tramp - Ward Greene. I saw a quote from the new movie under a gifset on Tumblr that sounded like it came from a book, and upon Googling out that one existed, I obviously could not allow the book version of a beloved childhood animal-movie fave to go unread. Especially after finding out it was super rare so reading it would be a privilege.

I can’t remember why I loved you, anyway.
The one where Harry and Y/N broke up two years ago and have to spend a vacation together in the Hamptons except they’re not over each other yet, and they both have new S/O’s
Word Count: 3.4k
TW: angst??? fluff??? honestly I really don’t know
A/N: this was a concept i thought about for days and then i sent it to @emotionally-imbruised and she said ‘write it’ and i did???????? (thank you lovely!!)
and thanks to @belladonna-styles for reading it over! You’re the sweetest, Sierra!!! (i love you)
It has been two years. Two whole years since the two of you decided that it was better to go separate ways. When you thought about it, the truth was that it has been two years since the person you loved most in this whole goddamn world turned into the person you hate the most.
The breakup has been hard. It was like running a mile to never make it. A long run of three years of love, passion, tenderness, dreams and future plans turned to ashes. It all collapsed one night. Actually, it took more time. It started in the run of your second year together, when he would be so busy that the only nights you’d spend with him he’d keep talking about work. When you would feel lonely in his presence and won’t even laugh at his stupid jokes. When he started being suspicious of you coming in late knowing there were nights he wouldn’t come home at all.
The third year of your shared love has just been the same stupid fight over and over again. You missed the simpler times… The times when you would do all the crazy things young people in love do. Giving each other a tattoo – he might have started hating you when he discovered your initials on his left butt cheek on a hungover morning. Singing, naked in the rain in the garden – all the love you’ve made and the terrible cold you’d got after. Crashing stranger’s wedding – the first time was an accident, it was when you met him; that night at your friend’s wedding in Hawaii. He was wearing a white suit – who wears white at a wedding? He did. And he was beautiful in it. That night you two became friends; strangely you had a lot in common; from your favorite bands to which Friends character you hated most – Ross, of course.
That night you two got so drunk that you danced on the kids’ table to the Pina Colada song.
And since then, it was your favorite song. Every time you’d hear it, the two of you would start dancing like that night in Hawaii. And he even mentioned once that it would be the song you two first dance at your wedding.
It was on the last night of November that you packed your bags. You spent the entire month sleeping alone. And he wasn’t even on tour. You couldn’t tell if you trusted him anymore and the gut feeling that he was seeing someone else was torturing you.
Every time he would touch you, it would burn your skin because your brain would only picture his fingertips on somebody else’s skin. He came home that night as if he felt that you would leave. And the storm that ravaged your shared home in that cold night of November was one worthy of those Sunday afternoons’ TV drama.
You told him how you felt –your gut feeling, your frustration, your sadness, how you missed him, how you couldn’t pretend anymore. And his stupid self and his incapability to respond and communicate his feelings just let you go. And that’s when you started hating him.
Probably to cover the hurt of feeling like he just never cared. That, you leaving was not important enough that he would try and better himself and overcome his insecurities. He just let you go. And your stupid brain came up with the answer that he didn’t care because he had someone else this whole time. Maybe he did. But it was better if you never knew.
Two years passed. Your life was back on track quickly. You started dating again, finding joy and doing fun things you used to do with him with other friends. The only thing that reminded you of your time together was that you shared common best friends. Your circle survived the split but it would continuously be hard for them not to see you together.
The resentment you both held for each other made you be mean and cruel to each other and on a common agreement you decided that you would avoid each other. If your shared friends were going for a movie and he was there, you wouldn’t go. But the next outing you’d be there and he would ditch. It worked well for you both. You wouldn’t see each other, hear each other or know about each other and everything would be good.
Your friends always said that it was stupid and that you two needed to grow up because it wasn’t nice being in between the both of you. But you knew it was just better. His face reminded you his –supposed– betrayal and being in the same room as him made you just nauseous.
You’ve been lucky enough that the last time your friends gathered together for a paintball party, he’s the one who went, because next weekend your little crew and yourself would be spending four days in the Hamptons in Jeff’s house.
You definitely needed that trip. You’ve been working like crazy those last weeks and spending some time with your friends was exactly what you needed. And it would be a great time to introduce them to your new girlfriend. She was indeed very new; you’ve only been dating for a month.
You have spent the last year going on unofficial dates with whoever you could find in the damn city just to meet her one night at an art exhibition in Brooklyn. She painted something abstract reminding you strangely of a vulva.
When you invited her for a coffee, you talked for hours, mostly about feminism and LGBTQ+ rights because the both of you were activists. She felt comfortable enough to tell you about her transition and how her gender identity always influenced her art. And you quoted the just stoked her hand tenderly to answer the worry in her eyes when she told you she was transgender. She sighed in relief and raised her hand in the air to call the waiter to bring more drinks!
You started seeing each other frequently enough and called your little encounters ‘dates’, and you knew it was the right time to introduce her to your friends.
***
You arrived late at the house, you were pretty much always late, and it was a personality trait at this point. You left your bags in the foyer and closed the door behind you. You could hear laughing and chats coming from the living room. You looked at Danny, your lovely girlfriend who for once seemed insecure and anxious.
“Hey…” You pressed your hands on her shoulders. “It’s going to be okay. They’re cool. I’m sure they’ll like you.”
She took a deep breath and you stroke her cheek with your fingers.
“C’mon, give me a smile, love.” She gave you a tiny smile and kissed your finger. You took off your coat and hers and placed it on the hanger. You grabbed her hand and walked in the living room.
“Your favorite bitch is here!” Your voice resonated in the room. And when you laid eyes on the table where your friends were sitting, you missed a heartbeat.
Harry was sitting there, his fingers intertwined with the beautiful woman sitting next to him. He was laughing out loud but when your voice reached his ears, his smile disappeared. His hair was so short and you remember that when you left him, it was longer than yours. Now it was short and you could see his jawline clench as he looked at you.
“Y/N!” Jeff got up and came towards you. The look on your face clearly read discontent. “Always late, our favorite bitch, huh?”
You looked at him and sighed. “What is he doing here?”
You couldn’t help but be mad and seeing Harry here just threw you off, you even forgot to introduce Danny.
“What is she doing here?” Harry got up and in a moment of coordinated rage, you both gave the darkest look to your friends.
Glenne stood up and laughed nervously. “Surprise!”
“Are you kidding me right now?” You looked over at her and your hissing tone made her scratch her head. Sarah got up.
“We thought it would be a good idea to spend a real vacation all together. We have been torn apart since you two…”
“That’s a prank, right?” You cut Sarah off.
“Look guys. Stop acting like fucking children. We’re not gonna babysit you. You’re both over it, aren’t you?”
Mitch’s words made you realize Danny’s presence and you looked over at her and the confusion on her face made you feel stupid.
“Look, it’s a bad idea….” Harry started talking. You grabbed Danny’s hand again and cut him off.
“It’s a great idea actually. We’re both over it, aren’t we, Harry?” You addressed him with a sneaky smile.
“Anyway. There’s someone I’d like to introduce y’all to.” You raised yours and Danny’s intertwined hands.
Your friends gave you a weird look for a second, certainly because you didn’t mention you were bringing a plus one; you wanted it to be a surprise. And apparently this vacation was going to be, for the least… Surprising.
Jeff, Glenne, Sarah, Mitch, Adam and Emi all smiled kindly to you and your new friend.
“This is Danny. Danny this is the gang.”
You laughed and Danny shook everyone’s hand. Harry’s expression was… Well you couldn’t quite figure it out.
He shook her hand with a smile and welcomed her warmly. He introduced himself and Danny told him she was a big fan, something she didn’t mention to you before, probably because you never brought Harry up in the conversation anyway. He gave you a tease look when your girlfriend mentioned she liked him. It was a bit ironic, wasn’t it?
He introduced the woman he was with. Rosie. Boring name you thought to yourself.
“Pleased to meet you, I’m Y/N. If you want my piece of advice; run away now.” You gave Harry a teasing smile before sitting down at the table.
The weekend was going to be long…
***
The first two days were atrocious. You and Harry fought over everything; from where to eat to whether or not the Brexit was going to happen.
Funnily enough you always had similar political views, but you just needed to get your frustration with him on something and his naïve thought over happy ending Brexit pissed you off.
“No, I want to believe it won’t happen. That we are going to be smarter you know. It has been postponed so many times, it might be cancelled as well.”
He always was too optimistic over the most fucked up things.
“It’s going to happen. Get that in your mind. It’s in the process and they refused the second referendum.” Your tone was so dry; it probably stripped him away.
Whether it was political discourse or the most mundane things, he would be a pest about it.
For instance, when he made pancakes for brunch on the third day –god knows his pancakes were always delicious.
You woke up late, per usual and came down to the kitchen to see all your friends sat at the huge wooden table.
“Oh, smells nice!” You looked over the table and saw a huge pile of pancakes.
“Harry made them! His pancakes are delicious!”
Rosie’s voice would irritate you more than Harry’s sometimes. After all, her high pitch and long blonde hair and her soft manners and ugh…
Of course his pancakes were delicious, you would know better than her. You’ve eaten those pancakes every morning for three goddamn years.
You didn’t say a word and grabbed a plate, and right before you took some pancakes, you heard his voice. “You could thank me. I mean you come down late and find brunch ready, so you could at least thank me.”
“God, are you gonna curse them pancakes if I don’t thank you for doing something I never asked you to do?” You sighed as you put down your plate.
He opened his mouth to talk but you cut him off.
“You know what? I won’t risk food poisoning. I’m getting cereal.” You made your way to the shelf and grabbed a bowl. You could tell everybody was uncomfortable and you heard Harry mumbling, “Still a drama queen.”
“A drama queen? Say the guy who threw a tantrum because we decided to eat Italian instead of Chinese?”
Last night you’ve fought over where to eat, his take was Chinese food, yours was Italian food and your argument won over the assembly. Harry acted all fussed and reluctantly came to the restaurant not to speak a word to anybody except Rosie the whole evening.
“Are you kidding me? You were the one who decided to argue!” He got up from his chair. “You’re a pain in the ass, Y/N!”
“Says who? Mister I can’t fucking admit I was wrong? Mister I must have the final say in everything? The guy who can’t form a coherent argument in a discourse? Please! The only pain here is your lack of conversation!”
You looked over at Rosie. “I can tell you’re bored honey, feel free to leave him, he’s really not worth it.”
Harry’s face became all red and he furrowed his eyebrows; as he was about to spat words, Jeff cut him in his track.
“I’m done with your bullshit! You have been the most obnoxious people for the past three days!”
Everybody agreed loudly with Jeff. They were just fed up with the two of you constantly fighting.
Sarah got up and left the kitchen. You felt guilty for making your friends so uncomfortable and annoyed. You hissed at Harry and he rolled his eyes at you.
Sarah came back down. She took two chairs from underneath the table and placed them in the middle of the room, only a few inches from each other and facing each other.
She pointed at you. “Sit.” She pointed to the first chair. She held one hand behind her back. She ordered Harry to sit in front of you. He reluctantly sat on the chair. You didn’t look at him.
“Your hands.” Sarah’s voice was very directive despite her natural tenderness.
“What?” You asked; your eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“Give me your hand. No questions.”
You gave her your hand and Harry reached out his too. You both were very confused. It’s only when she pulled out the handcuffs from behind her back that you realized what was happening.
“Oh hell no!” You tried to argue but your hand was already cuffed with Harry’s.
“Please. This is not funny, Sarah…” Harry’s voice sounded so desperate, it got a giggle out of you.
“This is not supposed to be funny. This is supposed to be a punishment. I’m done with you two being little pests to each other.”
Mitch sat down, and ate his cut fruit like popcorn, a smile on the corner of his lips. “Well done, baby.” Sarah smiled at him.
“What do you expect us to do?” You looked over at everyone and everybody seemed to be very much okay with the situation. You deserved it.
Glenne spoke up, “You’re going to be nice to each other, and let us have our last day of vacation in peace.”
Adam chortled and sat down next to Mitch, he cleared his throat before talking, “Say something nice to each other.”
“What for?” You snapped and Sarah gave you a dark look.
“Say something nice, Y/N, now.”
Strangely her tone made you want to do as she says…
Dom vibe. You thought to yourself and you gave her a promiscuous look.
“Fine, I’ll say something nice.” You sighed loudly and then took a look at Harry who shared a handcuff with you, slightly reminding you of a similar situation the two of you played in the past.
You thought for a second and came up with something basic. “Your haircut is nice.”
Harry raised his eyebrow at you. “Thanks? You look good today.”
Jeff hissed, “Are you guys serious? Dig deeper.”
“What do you want me to say?” Harry threw his head back in disbelief.
“I can’t even remember why I loved you, anyway.” Your voice was low, it seemed that nobody heard you but you caught Harry’s sight and an odd gloomy look on his face.
“Say something you like about her!” Jeff tilted his head over to me to pressure Harry.
“Fine…” He sighed and crumpled his eyebrows in concentration, trying to come up with something that would be good enough to set us free.
“I like your smile. It’s contagious. It never failed to make me smile.” He looked at you for a second and you felt your heart sank, when was the last time you made him smile?
“Your turn Y/N.”
You thought for a moment and when your eyes met Harry’s, you felt out of breath.
“Your eyes have always been one of my favorite things about you. They’re deep and kind. They’re comforting. And I always felt safe and beautiful in them.”
You realized you shared too much when a smile appeared on Harry’s face. You rolled your eyes at him and sighed.
“Good. Good. Harry?” Jeff played the referee here.
“You have…” He breathed for a moment. “Really pretty lips. They’re soft and… I love the shade of red you wear.”
He couldn’t look at you in the eyes and neither could you. You knew it was a difficult exercise for him, he’s never been really good with spoken words; he was always better at writing them.
The crowd in the room looked at you to let you know it was your turn. Sarah added softly “Less shallow, maybe?” You mocked a laugh at her and turned your head to Harry.
“You’ve always been a great listener. You don’t talk much but you know how to listen, you’re attentive and it’s something I’ve always liked about you.”
Harry let out a giggle. “Thanks.” He took a long gaze at your face.
“You’re very passionate. I mean… When you’re into something, you give your all. That’s why I always loved listening to you because you talk with passion and knowledge. You’re the smartest person I know.”
You fought a smile. He was always good at complimenting, wasn’t he?
“You’re one of the most talented people I know. It’s amazing how much work and love you put in your music. It always baffles me that you’re so lyrically smart. For someone who isn’t too keen on communication, your lyrics always talked to me in a way nobody did.”
He grinned widely but before he could thank you, you added a word.
“Oh, and you have the voice of an angel. When you sing and when you talk. It’s soothing. It sounds familiar… Like home.”
He didn’t say a word for a moment, staring at you with a fond smile.
“Your laugh always made me happy. It’s like a serotonin shot. My favorite thing was…”
He thought for a second, wondering if he should keep going.
“It was when we would kiss and you’d laugh nervously, pulling away because you always thought you were a terrible kisser… I mean you are…”
He laughed before continuing,
“You’re not…”
He looked at you.
“I loved kissing you and feeling you laugh against my lips. It was always my favorite thing.”
You felt your heart beat a million times faster. The more you looked at him, the more you remembered why you were so in love with him.
“I loved it too.” You whispered so that only him could hear you.
You felt his fingertips stroke the back of your hand, and you shivered at his touch, realizing how much you missed it, how much you missed him…
“Okay. Game’s over.” Rosie fake laughed a little bit, getting up and asked Sarah to open the handcuffs.
Sarah understood the discomfort Rosie was facing so she set you free. You got up and kept your eyes focus on the ground. You couldn’t even look at Danny.
Harry breathed loudly. The room was silent; the most uncomfortable silence, actually.
You cleared your throat before speaking up, “How about we spend the day at the lake?”
Adam cheered loudly to release the tension, “Yes!! That’s a great idea!”
Emi supported the idea too and when everybody agreed, you all left the kitchen.
Your eyes met Harry’s for a second and you felt your heart sank again.
You remembered exactly why you loved him. Maybe why you still loved him.
