sorry but the idea of bruce being dick's father in his mid 20s. he's always a little tired but otherwise he's young and looks it too. he can pick dick up with one hand to put him on his shoulders. he doesn't know jack about taking care of kids. they play a game that they both love where bruce picks him up and just like... throws him off of the spiraling staircase to watch how he catches himself in the air and lands unharmed. they play soccer together in the backyard and bruce is so young and spry and he can do a bicycle kick (dick goes to school and tells everyone that bruce can do a bicycle kick. not to flex but he's really cool guys.) he lets dick make dino nuggets as their dinner three nights in a row when alfred is gone and they make a stupid big everything but the kitchen sink sundae and split it afterwards. kid you're killing me, he says, because he has a sweet tooth that alfred doesn't enable. maybe sometimes they argue and argue bad, especially as dick grows up, but at the end of the day that's his dad.

one day like ten fifteen years later when damian is young dick looks at bruce and all the sudden what happened.... his dad has crow's feet and his hair is graying a little...! that sort of tiredness that people get as they age! he's still strong he's the fucking batman but when damian wants to play a game (being hurled off the balcony into the pool) bruce looks at dick and smiles and he's got lines on his face. he's aging. and that's still bruce but he doesn't laugh with his head thrown back anymore and he doesn't style his hair the way he used to when he was in his 20s and he's stopped wearing the loose button ups with the first button undone he wore when he picked him up from school in the convertible. his dad is getting older and even bruce wayne can't escape the passage of time. he tells damian no being thrown off the roof. damian protests. but grayson says you used to throw him off the staircase when he was my age. bruce throws his hands up and turns away and gives dick a look before he goes that tells him he'll be in his office and if there happens to be a loud splash from the pool... well that's none of his business is it.

I think that hc is based off of the fact that Illumi as a Zoldyck probably 100% had professional chefs prepare him all 3 meals everyday. And while I definitely agree with that, I also think there is no way the Zoldycks have not taught Illumi survivability skills that included the basics of cooking or making your own food with what you're provided (like chucking em in the zoldyck forest and they just gotta find their own food from there for a month)

How I see it, from the logical pov he doesn't necessarily cook. He knows the basics, but thats about it. BUT if he were given a recipe book, he can replicate the meal down to a T. He can definitely cook textbook perfect recipes if he wanted to.

Whether that counts to "bad at cooking" or not is up to u tbh but im also one of those people that find it very funny if he would just ruin the entire kitchen on one saturday night because he lacked the knowledge of fundamentals like not leaving oil for too long on the stove or having to be careful of cleaning meat to not spread salmonella all over your kitchen. you learn through practice after all and when it comes to standing in an actual kitchen i think he had about none

my general hc for illumi cook is he learned a lot through watching hisoka cook first and foremost and was supervised by hisoka the first few times before he was trusted enough to be set free in the kitchen. I see hisoka having a whole written textbook of recipes he saw and likes to make and illumi uses that as his guide to making whatever he needs in there.

there are still ways for him to mess up even with all these pillars of support but imo that doesnt make him a bad cook yknow? It's like that one meme abt someone asking u to heat up a cup of water and u send them back a photo of a glass cup on the stove. He would just take things too literally but hes a fast learner so im sure after a good year of living with back and forth practice he'd become perfect at proper safe cooking.

TLDR he cooks just not safely and needs very clear proper instructions and guidance and proper practice to truly thrive but that does not make him a bad cook by definition. does that make sense.

You know I don’t think I’ve ever rly done a post on why I like Mako, my forever blorbo:

He’s just the kind of neutral character I like and I think it’s because I really don’t have a strong personality and I tend to like characters some people think are boringg because they’re the straight man. Scott Summers was my favourite x-man lol.

He has weird eyebrows. It’s a plus for sure.

He has a tragic backstory, but it’s trauma that’s related to poverty. His parents were killed young and he’s been in a caretaker role since he was eight. That leaves him emotionally stunted. Emotional constipation is my jam. There is literally a post compiling all of the characters in the legend of korra crying, and Mako isn’t in it because he doesn’t cry. I think he needs a good cry.

Also his parents were killed by a firebender, he is a firebender, the show never explores this juicy source of angst.

He generally cares and is very protective over his friends. He doesn’t even really hide it, at the start of book 1 it’s clear he only cares about the people he cares about. This changes by book 4 when he sacrifices himself for the city. His world has expanded.

There’s a ruthless side to Mako, he can be a little dark, see how he threatened people for Korra in book 1 (and then Wu in book 4 lol?). He killed Ming-Hua and my own HC is that he was probs fine with because out of the four I think Mako is the most pragmatic (though tbh I don’t think we’ve seen all of what Asami can offer so maybe second most. Think Asami would murder easily).

I like his dynamic with Bolin a lot, and a lot of book 3 slaps because of this (ignore whatever the jail thing in book 2 because it’s just strange.)

I also like his dynamic with Wu which is why I’m a wuko shipper lol.

He is a very bad communicator. I think that’s neat, because communication is actually something people in general suck at talking, and I don’t ever really like people saying ‘just talk!’ A response to characters conflict, because people don’t just fucking talk to each other. Communication is hard.

Mako starts an eighteen year old who thinks he knows everything but really doesn’t. The only person he has had to rely on his entire life is himself, so his outlook on the world is very warped by his own perception of it, so I think he lacks introspection and can’t really relate to many people emotionally so he couldn’t understand Korra’s frustrations in book 2 (though yes to say Korra was also in the wrong). By book 4 he has grown more chill to trust and support Korra implicitly (who has also grown as well).

I love the breakups. Mako and Korra and Asami all seemed to like each other but never really understood one another. A lot of the issues between them were not just started by Mako (ppl forget Korra initiated the love triangle by kissing Mako without asking when she knew he had a gf) and it’s just teenagers being dumb and not being honest with eachother. I don’t think the writers set out do this in book 1 but by choosing to end the relationships in book 2 I feel like there was some awareness to the flaws present in the relationships. It is, accidentally, one of the more realistic relationships squabbles on a kids show. I love that shit because I’m weird.

All of this leads to this incredibly flawed doofus who means well. I think that’s blorbotastic.

Anyway because most of the fandom hate for the relationship drama is towards Mako I feel the need to defend him since it’s just not that bad. I also feel the need to explain every time that Mako dying would have been a very bad way to end the series, please guys, I will fight you in the streets over this.

None of this is very well explored in canon. I don’t think Mako is a blank slate character, a lot of his character is defined early on and is consistent, but it is not well developed beyond the initial setup at all. This is great for fanfic and it’s fun for headcanons. Hooray!

Because it’s underdeveloped your headcanon doesn’t need much time to work with canon as long as you actually watch the series.

Going off of that, if Shaw’s partner spots him watching, I doubt he’ll feel any kind of embarrassment. He’ll give a little smile, nod, or wave as he continues to watch. He’s not taking any chances on his partner and he’s not afraid to express it.

He isn’t a very big PDA person and prefers affection more once he and his partner are away from prying eyes. But if he hasn’t seen you for a long time, he’s not afraid at all to shower you with affection. Get ready to be full on tackled and peppered with kisses.

If you two are alone, you’ll see Shaw’s more cuddly side. He loves being able to spoon his partner, either on a couch or bed, even on a rug or blanket on the floor- (Shaw likes being big spoon but shh, he’ll accept little spoon too… sometimes. Continuing on… He’s not that much of a show-off… until you get on the sparrow with him. He’s doing tricks the entire time or going as fast as he can and smiles to himself every time he feels you hold on tighter. Of course, he’ll make sure you’re alright the entire time, tapping your leg and asking every two seconds.

He makes it pretty clear to everyone that his partner is his top priority. If theres a crowd around waiting to talk to him, Shaw always choses his partner to talk to first. Meanwhile everyone whispers about how they wish they had a relationship like them. He’ll bring up the other guardians later with a soft little laugh and tell his lover how lucky he is to have them <3

Shaw Han is… a mystery. Hes 1000% a switch, but weather he’s dom or sub depends completely on what his partner is feeling in that moment. Shaw, unsurprisingly, is perfect at both and is ready to act however his partner wants.

Dominant Shaw, most of the time, means hes taking you to a lesser known area of the cosmodrome and fucking you against a wall. He can’t be gone from his post for too long or else people will start to question him… So, that also means lots of quickies. Shaw can and will make up fake missions to take his partner on just so the two of them can be gone for however long they want.

If he has the time, he’s totally going to spend it all up making his partner feel like the most special guardian alive. He’s straight to the point, no begging needed, so if his partner asks him to do something because it just feels soso good? Get ready because thats all Shaw’s going to do for the rest of the time he has with him.

If his partner wants to be dominant? Awesome, sub Shaw it is. When you get him to be subby, he’s the universe’s best rule follower. His most favourite thing to do is stare up at his partner while giving them head. Maybe give him a facial since he’s being such a good boy. I promise you he’ll look absolutely adorable as he looks at you, a sly little smile on his face as he licks his lips clean.

Shaw is pretty open to trying new things in the bedroom with his partner, especially if its something both guardians are excited about. Shaw is completely willing to let his partner experiment with toys and might even let his partner try them on him! If he’s away on a mission he’ll absolutely allow his partner to use them, but if Shaw is with him he’ll want to be the one to please them instead. (He’s kind of jealous of the toys at first…)

Shaw really can’t be too picky with his favourite positions since you usually don’t have much time together… This boy will take pretty much anything as long as it means he’s buried deep within his partner, or of course, his partner is buried deep within him. But if i’m being honest, Shaw likes whatever will get his partner instantly moaning and whining when hes dom. (He pretty much thrives on his partner’s noises)

Shaw’s favourite positions if he’s sub? He loves letting his partner take complete control over him, so any position physically underneath his partner is perfect. Another thing Shaw adores? Riding his lover. He loves feeling his partner thrust up into him as he bounces, and better yet, if his partner controls his speed by holding his hips. (Shaw can be a little loud sometimes, so keep in mind before fucking him senseless-)

I don't want you to think I'm critical of dancing on her own OK maybe I am but I'm not here to .....make your day worse just give my own two cents I'm glad that peter gets therapy and I'm glad you mention peter is extremely young during all of this it makes me a little bit more empathetic to see his side of the matter and while it's wonderful that our lady character is capable to forgive him despite all this shit he put her through I still don't think she should be romantically involved with him like ever it not that he doesn't deserve her and bla bla (though that is also a very valid point) it not healthy for either of them she has seen him as an escape from her abusive childhood and clung on to the one thing she sees as normal it's quite similar for him to keep her with him because of his abandonment issues maybe there is quite strong love there but is it strong enough to take away the fact that they both view each other as coping mechanisms ? Im also much more optimistic and I like to think if anyone was in th place of the oc would've cut out peter along time ago which is what I wanted for them to go on healing parts separately from one another and find themselves and each other along the way again that's what is my hc for this actually that she views Gabe as the last starw forces him to move out And gets the fuck away from this man whose cut her of from so fucking much just cause he can't stand to have someone else in her life that's so so shitty but then I'm not her I don't even know how I would react if I was put in this situation humans are so weird in this way we are all wired differently while we like to think we want to do something some way we might do the opposite I guess I'm one of those people who like the "but this is the right way to go about things" ending rather than gray ending that don't satisfy me but that's my problem maybe that's what makes this fic so good for me it forces me to confront how I feel about morally Gray characters and complex situations rather than conforming to this good Black and white ending we have something Strange though it is also happy ending just not the one I agree with so yeah....the point of all this is youre a great writer thanks for writing this and I hope peter gets all the therapy he can lives with knowing that he's a very very lucky man cause I would've kicked him out a long time ago. I'm going to go ahead of believing that they never ended up together romantically

Hahaha this made me chuckle because I thought I was bad at rambling, run-on sentences with zero punctuation but I think you have me beat! I need to go reread this line by line because it's so much and I love it. And I'm glad you have your own opinions on it! That's what makes writing fun to me is seeing everyone's different takes and sides and who identifies best with what part. I love discussing my work and other people's work that I love in detail. Sometimes I think too many people just throw out a "this was good!" and then bounce. I want to talk about stuff and hear people's deeper thoughts. Esp for a fic like this, I knew it would potentially be divisive.

When I write, the characters sort of are their own people and I'm just their puppet for them to put their stories on the page. I don't know how else to describe it but I have such a clear picture of who they are, what they do, and why they're doing it that they become their own little entity chillin up in my brain. So when I write, I can say "How would x react to y?" And then they sort of take over from there.

For this particular story, I had two very broken, traumatized people. You hit it perfect by saying they were each other's coping mechanism. She has literally never had another friend in her entire life besides Peter. That is not healthy! None of this relationship is healthy. It starts off with Peter protecting her from bullies, the first and only person in her life to ever stand up for her, so she basically imprints on him as her savior. She views him through rose colored glasses. Even when he's horrible to her, when she looks at him, she only sees that scrappy little boy from the first grade beating her bullies with a stick. She can't separate that image of Peter from the man he's grown up to be.

Peter, on the other hand, is so psychologically broken that he's just as bad (actually, he's worse). He's torn between wanting to always save her but not being able to know how/being too scared of failing/her actually not needing him. He doesn't know how to navigate being a super hero and the deaths that come with that and how to keep up healthy relations. You are absolutely right when you say it's not healthy! It's very much not. His depression also lead him down the path of becoming hardened, bitter, and mean. He emotions are frozen up still.

What's funny is that I don't actually view the ending as happy. It feels almost bittersweet to me. She had been waiting her whole life for Peter to love her how she wants. This is the first time he's expressed that out loud to her. She's been waiting for that kiss for so long that I don't think anything else mattered to her in that moment. She's blinded by her childhood dreams. Peter is blinded by his fear of losing her.

Technically this isn't the "end" also. I mean, it's the end of me writing the story but they would still live on in the fictional universe. I do think that she would lose her virginity to him eventually and I do think he would be really sweet about it. But as for them working out long term, I really don't know. The thing about therapy is that it slowly unveils stuff about yourself that you didn't realize over time. (I also don't think a therapist would encourage this relationship, both hers and his, I think they would tell them to hold off on it). I doubt they will listen, though, because I know these characters. They are going to try before they are ready. They are going to try to force things and I don't exactly see the best outcome for them.

For the ending, it's not exactly happy or a finality of what they will be. It's meant to be hopeful and nudged into the direction of healing but that's where it ends.

The rest is to up to you, my love! Envision their messy attempts at a relationship to fail. Envision her striking up a conversation with Gabe a year into the future and him inviting out to movie. Technically anything that happens after they go back home is up to the reader! It's out of my hands!

Final points because I've rambled far too long, the story wasn't meant to be about what is right but what would happen if you put two messy, traumatized humans together and forced them into different situations. They wouldn't make the right choices because they've never been taught anything different. All she's ever known is Peter so, therefore, all she's ever going to chose is Peter...until she works on that in therapy and, hopefully, finds her own self again and learns how to live without her crutch. For now, they recognize their love for the other, whatever form that takes and, for now, that will have to do because they don't know any other way of living. Bittersweet! Not happy.

Thank you for this ask though. It made me happy that someone could even care enough to feel anger on behalf of a character I wrote and want justice for them. All I want is for people to love the creatures in my head as much as I do.

How Aspec is Mankai?

This is just a list of A3 characters I feel may be on the asexual or aromantic spectrum. As an aroace myself, I always wind up looking for myself in characters. With the A3 boys, there’s very little that’s canon (that I’ve seen) about their sexualities. Some of the older boys flirt with Izumi, Sakyo canonically has a thing for her, and Yuki once mentioned that he’s into girls. That’s literally all I can remember.

Because it’s a joseimuke game, the emphasis isn’t on their love lives or sexual interests, so there’s a LOT of wiggle room for headcanons. Obviously, I’m pro-everyone’s headcanons and I love reading all of them :) Frankly, I don’t even HC what I’m writing all of the time; it’s just a sense I get. A lot of characters are here, not because I think Mankai is some kind of aspec sanctuary (although, let’s be honest, a dorm of 24 hot guys and not one of them has a partner in 3 years??? c’mon), but because my HC’s rotate around depending on what scenarios or AUs or whatever I’m playing with. I might see a character as ace one day, and the next time I play with them, I see something else. The glory of interpretation and media :)

I’m also chucking in my basic assumption on the rest of them. I’m dealing only in sexuality, not gender. I also wind up bringing a lot of my personal bias and experience into this, since I’m a sex-repulsed aroace myself. I know a lot of people don’t have these same experiences, so I want to make them clear.

Spring Troupe, IMHO, is like 65% aspec.

Sakuya: Ace, possibly/probably aro.

He’s so absolutely devoted to the guys that he seems way more into “bromance” than anything else.

I know a bunch of that is the fact that he never had a family and he just gloms onto these guys who become his family, but it’s like there’s no room in his life for anything else. He puts ALL of his energy into the platonic relationships around him and seems to have absolutely no interest in romance or other people (in a relationship way).

He’s one of the only (18+) guys who doesn’t flirt or blush around Izumi AT ALL. Even Tsuzuru (who’s next on my list) flirts, and even Juza gets flustered around her sometimes.

My guess is that because he’s so young, and so wrapped up in theatre and the guys in Mankai, he’s not even thinking about looking for a partner - in fact, he’s probably not even realizing that he’s not looking! The fact that none of the other guys have partners helps isolate him from realizing this.

Whether or not he’s aro, I do definitely see him seeking out a long-term partner (either romantic or QPR) someday - probably as he settles into himself a bit more and sees the other guys start to move into romantic relationships of their own.

I figure that if his partner was allo, he’d be a very sex-positive ace and would absolutely enjoy sex and enjoy pleasing his partner, but without a partner (or with a sex-repulsed partner), I doubt he’d give it much of a thought. (For the record, I do not have a steady HC for him about this - this one’s more theory than belief.)

Tsuzuru: Demiace. Definitely not aro.

This is 100% because of the way he evolved when I created an OC for him and dreamed up a huge story that’ll never get written down because it’s too complicated.

Thing is, like Sakuya, Tsuzuru seems absolutely clueless about romantic relationships.

I feel like it would take him a long time to realize that he didn’t seem to be “progressing” the way a lot of other guys his age were when it came to the physical side of relationships - because he hadn’t ever really had a relationship.

Like, he wouldn’t even notice that most people his age have had girlfriends or boyfriends and have had SOME kind of sexual experiences - and if they haven’t had them, they’ve thought about them.

If he bothered to think about it, he’d just decide he was too **busy** to think about it because it’s not a priority compared to working 16 part time jobs to help your family.

When he finally does get into a romantic/sexual relationship, he’s really surprised at how STRONG some of these feelings are but doesn’t really wonder about why he’s never felt it for anyone else.

(Y’know, for a guy who writes about people and relationships, he doesn’t realize how much he doesn’t know - or since he writes about platonic stuff 95% of the time, maybe he does?)

But then he realizes that his partner has some of those feelings for, like, random hot people they see on the street. Not judgey about it with them, just a little weirded out. Is way more okay with it once someone (probably the partner) helps him figure out the whole “demiace” thing.

(I 100% HC him as demi. Like, this is a standing HC that I don’t see changing for me.)

Itaru: Possibly aroace.

He could also just be lazy about other people and more into his games than anything else, or just have a low sex drive, or be ignoring it all because of his Trust Trauma.

But the fact that we see him charming the shit out of everyone around him with the Popular Prince Persona, and we hear about all the girls that like him at his job, but he only seems annoyed by them…..

If he were screwing around at his job, Chikage would have said something by now.

(Granted, this is a mostly-clean game, so WE wouldn’t hear about it - but he’d probably mention SOMETHING, like Itaru taking out one of the secretaries for a date or something. Right? Just to rub Itaru’s nose in how much he knows about him?)

(Like some of his very early backstage stories talk about the girls at work pestering him and maybe he should give one of them the time of day…but it‘s played like a joke. And later stories abandon that completely.)

So he’s not getting sex there, and he’s not going out on dates that Mankai is aware of.

BUT. He also flirts a lot with Izumi and I definitely kinda ship them in canon (and I also have an OC for him and their relationship is sexual), so….I have no real HC for Itaru, but he does sometimes give off ace vibes.

I think he might want a relationship one day, but he’s like 26 and has NEVER mentioned a former relationship. (Granted, he’s got trauma about trusting people, so that could easily play into it.) The flirting with Izumi could just be habit, part of the Prince persona….

I don’t know, he’s confusing.

Chikage: Sex-repulsed aroace.

Now, to be fair, I don’t have a great grasp of his character.

But I DO get that he’s very, very uncomfortable with women.

He could just be gay - that’s fine!

But a lot of his standoffishness, that most ppl relate to him being a spy, reminds me of me and how I relate to the world.

Like 90+% of the world is experiencing all this stuff, and exchanging energy and understandings, and I have NO IDEA WHAT THEY’RE ON.

It keeps me from wanting to connect to people, just in case. Like, I’m often nervous about being too chatty or too friendly because I don’t know if someone’s going to see me as flirting.

I dunno, maybe I just feel disconnected from people in a way that seems familiar in Chikage’s character.

But the fact that he can only be comfortable with Izumi when he stops seeing her as a woman - ie, she is now a non-sexual being to him - just hits me close to home.

He seems to want a family more than anything else. I know there’s a lot of April/August/December poly stuff out there, and cool :) To me, it seems like the emotional connection was most important to him.

(As for the others - I see Masumi as pan. He wants someone to love, someone to love him back. I don’t think gender factors into it. TBH, Citron is a complete mystery to me. I definitely think he’s into girls - he’s a MAJOR flirt! - but whether he’s also into guys or is pan or just straight, I don’t freaking know. But he’s definitely DTF.)

Muku: Somewhere on the ace spectrum. Possibly aro (hear me out).

It’s the reliance on fictional media to fulfill something that’s uncomfortable in the real world.

That’s something I do, too, and it’s a really common occurrence for aces.

All of his romance is fictional.

We know that girls like him, but he doesn’t seem to realize they exist - yet he still wants to be someone’s prince!

To get your “crushes” only on fictional characters (or in your imagination) without realizing it, because you will never be required to DO anything to/with them.

To take all your cues on romance from fiction because RL romance is uncomfortable, makes no sense, or both.

Like, all of the allos I know had crushes on real life people. If you asked them to put together a list of people they wanted to sleep with - or even just kiss! - that list would include a mix of fictional people, celebrities, and people they know in real life.

The funny thing is, because he’s SO obsessed with fictional romance, I think most people wouldn’t see him as aro. But I’m aro and I’m 100% obsessed with fictional romance lol.

I have romantic OCs for most of the characters I like in fiction, I read romance novels, I play otome games religiously.

But I don’t want any of that in real life.

It’s possible Muku is the same.

Muku is 100% obsessed with fiction, and doesn’t seem to even SEE that girls are around him or like him.

However, BECAUSE of his fascination with being someone’s prince one day, I’m hesitant to truly HC him as 100% anything.

He may simply be oblivious and daydreamy and a late bloomer.

If he IS on the ace spectrum, he’d  probably be like Sakuya or Tsuzuru (you know, when he’s NOT A MINOR) - possibly Demi and/or very sex-positive and into pleasing his partner.

If he is aro, he still wants a QPR with a lifetime partner. He still wants to be someone’s prince.

(Yeah, everyone else in Summer Troupe is gay or bi. Sorry, but I don't make the rules.)

Banri: I see Banri as Aro, but not Ace.

To be honest, I don’t know why.

It’s just the vibe I get from him.

Like he doesn’t need or want anyone but himself.

Currently, probably because he’s still young, he’d be way more into FWB or casual dating, but probably not too much into random hookups.

Too much trouble, too much dancing around and getting drinks.

Just text a FWB, meet up, do the do, go home.

Or go out with his casual date partner, see a concert or play, go to the arcade, grab a bite to eat, whatever, THEN do the do and go home.

Take it up with the manager.

May wind up with a partner, may not.

I don’t see it bothering him if he’s alone, he’s perfectly content in his own company.

He’s found something he’s passionate about that takes up his time and pushes him to do better; that could easily be enough for him.

Even if he does find someone that he loves enough to want to commit to, I can’t see him being **in love** in the way most other people are.

Azami: Sex-repulsed aroace.

Technically, there's a lot of reasons I feel this, but also a lot of reasons why this is a hesitant HC.

Is too young for me to truly want to HC him, but that desperate aversion to witnessing or being a part of physical affection is VERY sex-repulsed ace.

I will literally fast forward through sex scenes in movies, skip the pages in books, whatever.

Sometimes I’m cool with sexual contact in media (hello fanfic), but I’m always uncomfortable with it in real life.

Now, for Azami, this could also be his age combined with a restrictive upbringing.

But the thing that always makes me pause about Azami is that he seems to equate ALL physical touch to sexual touch.

“No sex til marriage” makes sense, but no hand-holding?

That only seems to make sense if you’re making hand-holding a sexual thing, or ALWAYS a step on the ladder TOWARDS sexual things.

Like, 3-year-olds hold hands. Obviously that’s not sexual.

But the moment it’s between two people of sexable age, he freaks out.

And, as someone who is a sex-repulsed ace, I always got really confused about physical affection when I was dating (before I knew this about myself).

Is my boyfriend holding my hand just being sweet? Is his kiss on the cheek just that? If we cuddle, is that physical contact permission for his hands to start wandering?

Every single act of physical affection became a (potential) gateway to sexual actions because I couldn’t understand or sense the difference.

There WAS no difference to me. The “vibes” that indicate the difference to allos is missing in me.

Sometimes a kiss was just a kiss, sometimes it was more, and I flat-out couldn’t understand intention through the subtlety of just physical touch.

Everything is the same to me, so EVERYTHING is potentially sexual. And therefore, every form of physical touch became a danger zone.

It seems to me that the same thing is true for Azami - literally every physical interaction is a sexual interaction, because he can’t ever see that it’s NOT.

So while I don’t HC Azami as ace necessarily (only he can say that, and his behavior is confusing), I wouldn’t be surprised if he was.

As for aro or not, I have no idea, because I think the desperate desire to avoid physical affection is clouding the issue.

(I figure Juza as pan, Taichi thinks he’s straight until he realizes he’s in love with Yuki, Omi as bi, and Sakyo is the straightest straight guy who ever lived.)

Azuma: Ace, not aro.

The opposite of Azami.

All touch is non-sexual touch.

All flirting is non-sexual flirting.

Both of these things wind up being masking behaviors.

Like Itaru, Azuma seems to have people buzzing around him regularly.

If he wanted a sexual relationship, I feel like he'd have one. Pretty easily.

He jokes about things, but it seems more like everyone assumes things about him and his relationships and he just . . . lets them.

He even goads them on a little bit, but it all seems really jokey. Not serious at all.

While we have the word “asexual”  going back to the early 70’s (and probably further), it wasn’t a really common LGBT+ word until, I’d say, the mid-to-late 2000s.

While Azuma’s age is unknown, we know he’s older than Sakyo, so that would probably put him around 35 IMO.

That means he was coming of age in the 90s and early 2000s. He was also, very heavily, a loner.

He had no adults in his life to guide him, no one to confide in.

What are the odds he would come across that word in his teens and early 20s?

All he knows is that he’s different, maybe even broken.

All these things he’s supposed to be feeling, especially since he makes his living via close physical contact, are missing.

Might blame his trauma.

So he flirts heavily but keeps his distance, to mask the actual lack of attraction he feels.

He lets people believe what they want about his former profession, but it’s probably one reason he was so popular as a cuddler…all the women felt safe even if they didn’t know that was the reason.

I’m guessing he’s sex-neutral - sex is a take-it-or-leave-it thing to him, and he’s mostly had one-night stands, and almost entirely to avoid spending the night alone rather than for the sex itself.

By the time someone (possibly Tsuzuru, as he figures it out about himself) brings the concept to him, it’s a shock to him that asexuality is just…a sexuality like any other.

He’s not broken.

I think he would still want a partner (he doesn’t want to be alone!), but whether that was one all-consuming love, or a polycule, I don’t really know.

I just know he wants love and romance in his life.

(I do not HC this all of the time - for some reason, canon Azuma gives me ace vibes, but my personal fanon Azuma doesn’t. Given that I’m about the same age as Azuma, I might be projecting my own history and trauma about feeling broken onto him.)

Guy: now, I refuse to HC Guy as ace, but he needs his own space here anyway because I have An Issue. (To be fair, I have not seen ANYONE in the A3 fandom do this to Guy!!!! But I feel like it needs to be said anyway.)

He, like some of the others, shows absolutely no interest in romance or sex.

BUT.

He’s repressed pretty much everything in order to survive his trauma growing up.

He made himself into an android - an android would be both asexual and aromantic.

I think he’s still healing from that and, at some point, will have to address his own sexuality.

Because I don't think even he knows what his sexuality is.

He may wind up being ace, but even if he is, that ace-ness needs to be separate from the whole android thing.

There’s so much that’s problematic about taking someone who thought they were a robot and diving right into “hur hur not wanting sex makes you a robot!”

It’s a false equivalency and it’s potentially damaging to the ace community, so I’m not having it here.

I think Guy’s history is really really sad, and I think the fact that he probably has no idea what his sexual/romantic orientation is is also really really sad.

HCing him as ace would feel (TO ME) damaging and disrespectful to the character.

I have NO doubt there’s aces out there who relate to him or like him because of the ace vibes and that’s peachy :)

He becomes a comfort character at that point.

However, the immediate jump society makes to “hur hur robot” or “hur hur plant” or any of the “you don’t like sex? you must not be human!” jokes?

Kinda done with it.

(As for the rest - Tsumugi is bi, Tasuku is definitely gay af, Hisoka is pan, and I can’t help but see Homare as straight for some reason (I KNOW I’m in the major minority here!) - but panromantic and with a low libido/mild touch aversion. Like I could see him and Azuma in a sexless romantic relationship or part of fuyupoly. Totally happy with the romance/family, not inclined to care about not having sex.)

Maria, when she’s being Yulia - though with her, it’s not quite being aloof and standoffish, more Yulia is just very, very objective and disaffected in behavior so she comes off to many, if not everyone, as rather cold and somewhat distant to people in general. she can certainly emote - purposefully or not - but it either takes a very strong instigation or it looks very painfully clear that it’s an act she’s putting on, no matter how “natural” she is.

Hey ! So  I  wrote  this  for  important  headcanon  and  characterization  details.  I  wanted  to  make  one  post  to  cover  everything  important  instead  of  having  folks  dig  around  through  multiple  hcs  across  two  of  my  blogs  lmao  so  here  we  go !  Straight  to  the  point  I  do  not  interpret  Henry  as  a  remorseless  psychopath  and  I  don't  believe  this  was  canons  intention  one  bit.  He  is  not  “pure  evil”  and  he  was  not  “born  evil.”  To  me  it  is  quite  clear  that  a  lot  of  themes  in  Stranger  Things  are  allegories  for,  and  are  very  much  metaphoric  to  metal  illness  and  neurodiversity,  most  particularly  a  lot  of  themes  in  Stranger  Things  touch  on  the  the  demonization  of  and  abuse  toward  people  with  mental  illness  and  neurodiverse  individuals.  Please  keep  in  mind  Stranger  Things  is  a  period  piece  that  is  taking  place  from  the  50s  through  to  the  80s  and  EARLY  90s.  This  was  a  time  period  particularly  in  AMERICAN  HISTORY  that  was  not  known  for  its  kindness  toward  minority  demographics  and  just  as  it  was  difficult  to  be  lgbt+  or  a  poc,  for  example,  in  these  times,  it  was  also  very  difficult  to  exist  as  a  ND  or  mentally  ill  person  without  experiencing  oppression,  horrific  abuse,  exploitation  and  demonization.

GENERAL: Ultimately,  to  me  Henry  is  on  the  autism  spectrum.  The  coding  in  his  character  is  VERY  explicit  and  he  resonated  heavily  with  me  as  an  autistic  person  myself,  who  has  experienced  similar  things  as  Henry  and  was  labeled  the  same  way  from  the  same  figures  as  a  child.  Henry  has  literally  described  himself  as  autistic  without  using  the  word  autistic.  Henry  is  very  high  functioning  but  none  the  less  he  was  labelled  as  “broken”  by  his  doctors  and  teachers  because  he  was  born  in  the  40s  and  was  a  young  boy  in  the  50s  where  this  stuff  was  not  understood  or  recognized  (  and  we  are  still  fighting  to  raise  awareness  decades  later.  )  Theres  a  few  other  factors  floating  around  that  make  this  story  true  to  the  horror  genre  and  further  add  to  the  metaphorical  side  of  things  (  Henry’s  psychic  powers,  the  idea  the  Creels  were  living  in  a  haunted  house,  the  concept  of  demonic  possession,  etc  )  but  bringing  things  down  to  basics  Henry  was  a  high  functioning  autistic  boy  living  in  a  time  period  where  kindness  and  understanding  toward  his  neurodiversity  was  not  a  thing  and  he  suffered  tremendously  for  it. People  will  debate  whether  or  not  Henry  was  abused  or  neglected  by  his  parents  but  its  absolutely  clear  that  he  was.  In  both  flashbacks  from  him  and  Victor,  Henry  is  shown  as  isolated.  The  character  himself  laments  on  being  "alone"  and  makes  claims  that  his  family  were  not  the  good  people  they  pretended  to  be.  He  relates  to  spiders  as  a  child  because  people  approach  them  with  contempt  and  disgust,  as  little  Henry  felt  this  was  the  same  for  him.  There  is  a  reason  a  CHILD  felt  this  way.  Henry's  mother  had  put  in  motion  a  plan  to  institutionalize  Henry  simply  because  he  was  "different."  Different  is  not  code  here  for  ASPD,  its  code  here  for  neurodiversity,  most  likely  autism,  again  given  Henry's  OWN  descriptions  of  himself  and  his  feelings/thoughts  on  the  world.  Henry  also  claims  he  related  to  El  because  of  the  fact  that  she  was  bullied  and  ostracized.  Other  children  thought  of  her  as  "Stupid  and  Clumsy."  She  was  constantly  shown  as  isolated  from  the  other  children  around  her  and  it  was  clear  that  they  did  not  care  much  for  her  company.  (  El  is  also  a  heavily  autistic  coded  character  and  this  has  been  a  topic  of  conversation  in  the  ST  fandom  forever  )  Henry  is  not  an  unreliable  narrator  here  because  nothing  he  says  is  ever  contradicted  anywhere  by  canon.  Instead  its  all  completely  supported  by  the  things  we’re  shown  in  canon  from  not  just  his  POV  but  from  the  other  character’s  POVs  as  well. After  coming  to  live  in  Hawkins,  Henry  discovered  he  had  unlocked  the  ability  to  read  minds.  He  then  discovered  his  mother  hated  him  and  he  discovered  she  planned  to  have  him  committed,  where  he  would  be  taken  away  by  a  Doctor  (  Dr.  Brenner  )  and  “fixed.”  Virginia  Creel  was  essentially  an  Autism  Mom  TM  and  explicitly  wanted  to  “cure”  Henry,  something  she  had  already  put  into  motion  by  the  time  of  her  murder.  This  was  a  secret  she  had  been  keeping  from  him  and  this  was  the  final  trigger  for  Henry’s  murderous  rampage.  He  practiced  using  his  psionic  powers  on  small  animals  and  prepared  to  kill  his  mother  and  escape  from  his  family  to  avoid  the  horrors  of  institutionalization  within  a  “psychiatric  hospital,”  as  had  been  planned  for  him.  He  did  not  do  that  for  fun  or  because  he  liked  killing  people.

This  perfectly  explains  why  Dr  Brenner  knew  Henry  existed.  Keep  in  mind,  again  this  is  the  late  50s.  Virginia  was  an  upper-middle  class  house  wife.  Her  duty  and  image  as  a  loving  mother  and  wife  would  have  been  held  in  the  highest  esteem.  If  she  was  someone  who  secretly  despised  one  of  her  children  ━  not  only  is  this  particularly  shitty  for  Henry  as  the  child  she  disliked  to  discover  this  ━  but  it  does  in  fact  make  her  a  hypocrite  as  someone  who  would  pretend  otherwise  to  fit  societies  mold  of  “normal”  and  “perfect.”  Its  also  been  heavily  suggested  the  Virginia  Creel  was  a  cheat,  and  Alice  possibly  isn’t  even  Victor’s  child.  In  the  News  paper  article  detailing  the  Creel  murders,  Alice’s  birthdate  is  listed  as  1944.  This  is  a  year  before  the  end  of  the  war,  before  Victor  returned  home.  Virginia  has  also  been  associated  with  bathtub  symbolism  and  often  draws  parallels  to  Karen  Wheeler.  Bathtubs  often  symbolize  infidelity,  and  immoral  thoughts.  And  we  all  know  that  Karen  was  planning  to  hook  up  with  Billy. 

Henry  used  his  powers  to  “torment”  his  family  by  “showing”  them  their  “real”  selves.  He  was  attempting  to  force  them  to  recognize  they  were  not  “normal”  or  “perfect”  like  they  pretended.  I  don't  think  the  motive  here  is  hard  to  imagine  given  Henry  was  being  shunned  by  others  because  he  was  "abnormal"  and  was  clearly  suffering  psychological  distress  and  self-loathing  over  this.  This  was  his  attempt  to  make  his  family  see  themselves  and  thus  accept  him  more  so  Henry  didn’t  even  resort  directly  to  murder.  Prior  to  the  murders,  Henry  was  nothing  but  a  lonely,  innocent  child.  He  was  unfairly  judged  as  “broken”  and  “wrong”  by  his  family  members  who  themselves  were  actually  not  the  ‘perfect’,  ‘faultless’  people  they  pretended  to  be,  hence  his  accusations  of  hypocrisy  toward  them,  claiming  that  they  were  broken  NOT  him.  Henry  was  born  different  and  try  as  he  might  he  couldn’t  change  what  made  him  “different.”  Henry  struggled  hiding  his  differences,  something  which  was  expected  of  him,  so  he  grew  disgusted  by  people  like  his  parents  and  sister  who  were  so  obsessed  with  perfection,  conformity  and  this  false  notion  of  “normality,”  particularly  as  they  themselves  didn’t  even  fit  the  mold  they  were  trying  to  project  to  the  world  and  to  force  on  Henry. After  his  attempt  to  escape  failed,  Henry  would  spend  the  next  20  years  of  his  life  kidnapped,  wrongfully  imprisoned  and  suffering  various  kinds  of  abuse,  exploitation  and  dehumanization  at  the  hands  of  Dr.  Brenner’s  project.  Henry  was  as  much  a  victim  as  anyone  else  in  this  situation.  We  are  made  aware  of  the  fact  that  he  was  often  tortured  and  essentially  functioned  as  a  slave  to  the  facility.  Henry,  by  his  own  admission,  suffered  a  life  of  fear  and  cruelty.

ALICE  CREEL: I'm  adding  this  because  I  can't  decide  if  all  the  extreme  inconsistences  surrounding  Alice  mean  something  in  canon  or  if  it  was  just  laziness  on  the  Duffer  Brother's  behalf  but  for  now:  Alice  was  15  years  old.  (  Despite  being  portrayed  by  a  much  younger  actress  and  thus  appearing  to  have  been  the  same  age  as  Henry  if  not  younger.  A  really  weird  inconsistency.  )  Her  date  of  birth  is  given  on  the  news  paper  clipping  and  she  would  have  been  15  accordingly,  3  years  older  than  Henry,  making  her  Henry's  OLDER  sister,  and  again,  canon  has  seemingly  suggested  Alice  might  have  been  the  product  of  an  affair  given  Victor  claims  he  had  only  been  home  from  the  War  for  14  years. Moreover,  in  the  original  script  there  was  more  emphasis  on  Victor's  neglect  and  Henry's  discomfort  with  the  fact  that  his  father  "always  lies  to  himself."  In  the  canon,  Vecna  refers  to  Victor  as  "blind  and  dumb."  This  all  points  to  something  more  “personal”  going  on  in  the  Creel  house  than  just  Victor  believing  in  "demons".  But  on  that  note,  even  Victor  believed  the  "demonic  presence"  in  the  house  was  "punishing  them  for  their  sins."  Strange  that  he  would  think  that  way  if  this  was  a  totally  normal  and  innocent  family.  What  sins  is  he  referring  to  here?  Clearly  something  else  was  going  on  with  the  Creel  family. Anyway,  back  to  Alice.  I  imagine  Henry  and  her  to  have  had  a  relationship  best  described  as  an  inverted  parallel  to  Will  and  Jonathan.  Where  Jonathan  was  supportive  of  nurturing  toward  Will,  Alice  was  scornful  and  neglectful  of  Henry.  She  viewed  him  as  a  burden  due  to  his  "differences",  which  she  considered  where  just  him  being  difficult  and  a  "freak."  She  was  very  much  a  normal  teenaged  girl  in  the  50s  who  largely  kept  her  personal  life  a  secret  from  her  parents  in  case  of  disapproval. Henry  tormented  Alice  the  least  of  his  three  family  members  because  he  simply  didn't  understand  Alice's  fears,  insecurities  or  secrets  well  enough  to  prey  on  them  on  a  personal  level.  A  similar  thing  could  be  said  of  his  mother,  as  Henry's  "torment"  toward  both  his  mother  and  sister  appears  to  be  very  much  in  the  vein  of  only  making  them  “see”  general  phobias  like  bugs  and  spiders,  thus  and  not  near  as  personal  or  potent  as  the  torment  his  father  received  thanks  to  his  PTSD  and  guilt  from  his  actions  in  the  war.  I'm  hoping  we'll  see  more  Alice  in  season  5  to  understand  more  about  her  and  her  possible  dynamic  with  Henry.

THE  MINDFLAYER: To  me,  and  I’m  very  sure  this  was  what  canon  was  suggesting,  the  entity  we  know  as  the  Mindflayer  was  actual  the  “demonic  presence”  that  emerged  within  the  Creel  house  and  Henry  has  really  just  been  a  scapegoat  and  a  medium  for  this  thing  to  connect  with  Hawkins.  Stay  with  me  here.  The  Mindflayer  exists  within  another  dimension,  but  the  barrier  between  the  human  world  and  the  Mindflayer’s  dimension  is  thin  around  some  places  in  Hawkins,  which  is  why  all  this  bullshit  is  going  on  in  Hawkins  in  the  first  place.  This  is  a  canonlogical  fact.  The  Upside  Down  and  Hawkins  are  connected  and  this  was  true  before  Henry  was  sent  there  and  before  Will  Byers  was  taken  by  the  Demogorgon.  There  is  a  reason  the  Lab  where  Brenner  was  doing  his  experiments  exists  in  the  small  ass-backward  town  of  Hawkins.  From  what  we  can  gather  the  Creel  house  happened  to  sit  a  top  of  one  of  the  places  where  the  barrier  was  thin.  Canon  seems  to  show  that  Henry  was  particularly  sensitive  to  and  susceptible  to  the  presence  and  influence  of  the  Mindflayer  due  to  his  psychic  abilities.  Henry  once  believed  that  he  was  the  demon  in  the  Creel  house,  but  this  isn’t  entirely  the  case.  Henry  was  the  medium.  This  also  explains  why  Henry's  powers  only  became  so  strong  and  continued  to  multiply  when  he  came  to  live  in  Hawkins,  another  canon  fact.

We  know  that  the  Mindflayer  is  a  malevolent  force  that  amplifies  feelings  of  sadness  and  anger,  which  are  the  emotions  that  it  feeds  on.  Henry  couldn’t  have  been  a  more  perfect  target  because  he  was  a  sad  child,  a  child  who  was  ostracized  from  other  children  and  found  it  difficult  to  fit  in  with  others  and  was  constantly  being  made  to  feel  as  if  he  was  wrong/bad/at  fault.  This  takes  a  psychological  toll  on  a  child  and  almost  always  leads  them  to  acting  out,  even  without  the  existence  of  them  having  insane  psychic  powers.  Henry’s  negative  emotions  however  were  amplified  by  the  presence  of  the  Mindflayer,  which  in  turn  amplified  Henry’s  powers.

Once  again,  this  is  why  Henry’s  abilities  became  so  strong  once  he  and  his  family  had  settled  into  their  new  home  in  Hawkins.  This  is  what  drove  Henry  to  look  into  his  families  minds  and  find  their  “darkest  secrets.”  He  wasn’t  a  twisted  little  demon  who  was  just  sick  like  that,  Henry  is  shown  actually  as  a  sad  and  lonely  kid.  His  spirits  only  brightened  a  little  when  he  found  some  spiders  inside  a  vent  inside  the  house  as  he  recounts  he  has  a  love  of  spiders  and  they  brought  him  comfort  in  a  very  stressful  time  in  his  life.

Henry  then  spent  most  of  his  time  illustrating  the  spiders  while  his  family  fretted  over  the  “evil  presence”  in  the  house,  which  used  Henry’s  powers  to  manifest  itself.  There  is  a  lot  of  evidence  in  cannon  to  point  to  this  being  true.  There  is  a  scene  in  Victor’s  flashback  which  shows  Henry  drawing  with  his  crayons  in  the  living  room  of  the  house  when  the  lights  around  him  begin  to  behave  strangely,  causing  Henry  to  look  confused  and  concerned.  This  was  not  Henry’s  doing  and  it  calls  back  to  scenes  in  season  1  when  something  in  the  upside  down  is  trying  to  get  through  to  our  world.  This  again  happens  a  second  time  when  Nancy  is  shown  visions  of  Henry’s  childhood.  Henry  is  first  seen  wandering  around  the  Creel  house  as  if  he  is  looking  for  something,  in  this  scene  the  lights  of  the  house  are  also  shown  flashing,  somewhat  resembling  the  scene  in  season  1  where  little  Holly  Wheeler  notices  the  lights  flashing  in  the  Byers  home  and  follows  them  to  their  source  curiously,  Henry  is  not  framed  as  the  person  controlling  the  lights  but  rather  as  someone  simply  investigating  their  behavior.  Furthermore,  when  Henry  draws  an  image  of  the  Mindflayer  he  uses  charcoal  in  order  to  accurately  depict  the  creature  as  true  to  life.  How  would  Henry  know  the  Mindflayer  was  cloud-like  and  made  up  of  particles  if  this  was  just  something  out  of  his  imagination  and  nothing  more?  There  is  so  much  more  going  on  here  and  the  clues  are  everywhere.

There  is  also  the  fact  that  a  12  year  old  boy  in  1959  learned  to,  essentially,  suck  the  “souls”  out  of  his  “victims.”  Like.  How?  Which  brings  me  to  something  else.  While  Henry’s  method  of  killing  does  seem  to  be  demonically  influenced,  it  makes  sense  to  me  that  a  child  like  Henry  would  seem  to  reason  this  as  a  “valid”  way  to  commit  a  murder.  If  he  is  able  to  basically  “keep”  his  victims  in  some  way,  linking  their  souls  to  himself  and  thus  giving  them  some  type  of  immortality,  it  would  serve  to  ease  his  guilt  somewhat  in  the  fact  that  he  hasn’t  completely  killed  them  in  the  first  place.  This  seems  to  be  the  case  as  Henry  explained  to  Eleven  after  the  lab  massacre  that  the  other  numbers  he  "killed"  weren't  really  gone.  

Even  further  we  know  the  Duffer  brothers  took  nearly  direct  reference  from  entities  such  as  IT/deadlights,  the  Thing,  DnD's  Serpent  and  possibly  DnD’s  Elder  brain  to  create  the  Mindflayer  (  look  it  up  ).  These  creatures  are  all  very  thematically  similar  to  the  Mindflayer  we  see  in  the  show.  The  thing  is  a  monstrous  cosmic  mass  that  assimilates  other  creatures  into  itself.  Its  “original”  form  was  spider-like.  IT/Deadlights  is  an  eldritch  form  of  energy  that  eats  the  souls  and  flesh  of  its  victims  (  It  also  takes  a  spider-like  form  ),  DnD’s  Elder  brain  is  a  evil  psychic  entity  that  guides  its  community  (  the  mindflayers  )  toward  world  domination.  (  Its  depicted  as  a  huge  brain  that  uses  long  black  vine/tentacles  to  attack  ) The  Serpent  of  DnD  is  said  to  be  connected  to  Vecna  going  back  to  his  human  life,  it  is said  to  be  the  source  of  all  Magic  and  for  some  reason  favours  Vecna  over  all  other  beings.  Its  suggested  here  that  the  MF  may  have  preyed  on  Henry’s  love  of  spiders  to  make  itself  more  friendly  and  appealing  to  him  as  little  Henry  was  driven  to  see  the  spiders  in  the  Creel  house  as  avatars  of  something  divine  and  outwordly  rather  than  as  simple  animals. 

Vecna,  on  the  other  hand,  is  a  character  that  takes  direct  reference  from  Pinhead,  DnD  Vecna,  Freddy  Kruger  and  possibly  Henry  Bowers  if  his  human  name  is  anything  to  go  on.  Pinhead,  Freddy,  DnD  Vecna  and  Henry  Bowers  are  all  characters  who  “serve”  malevolent  gods/entities  in  their  referenced  canons  and  in  the  case  of  Freddy,  DnD  Vecna  and  Pinhead,  all  of  them  got  their  powers  from  said  entity.  With  Pinhead  its  the  Levithan.  (  An  abstract  ancient  entity  that  resides  within  "hell"  and  guides  the  Cenobites  through  dreams  and  visions  )  With  Freddy  its  the  "Dream  Demons"  (  Demonic  entities  that  thrive  on  nightmares  and  have  a  goal  of  merging  the  dream  world  and  waking  world  )  and  with  DnD  Vecna  its,  again,  The  Serpent  (  a  mysterious  godlike  entity  of  unimaginable  power  that  has  a  close  relationship  with  Vecna. )  What  inspo  came  from  each  of  these  characters  in  creating  Vecna  is  extremely  clear. Pinhead  was  claimed  to  be  the  biggest  inspo  used  to  create  Vecna.  He  was  a  kind  and  compassionate  human  who  was  severely  traumatized  and  disillusioned  from  humanity  and  "god"  by  ww1.  Pinhead  chooses  to  serve  the  Levithan  because  of  this.  This  is  clearly  referenced  in  Victor  Creel,  and  Henry  being  a  sensitive  young  boy  who  was  deeply  traumatized  by  seeing  his  father’s  memories  of  ww2.   Freddy  was  a  human  who  became  a  monster  with  the  ability  to  trap  his  victims  within  dreams  with  the  power  of  phantasmagoria  and  kill  them.  This  is  the  inspiration  for  Vecna’s  curse.  (  Note,  I  also  mentioned  the  Dream  demons  goal  was  to  merge  the  dream  and  waking  world.  Like,  come  on.  )   DnD  Vecna  was  once  a  human,  noted  to  have  had  a  VERY  cruel  mother,  claimed  to  have  been  be  an  evil  woman  who  consorted  with  monsters,  who's  cruelty  shaped  Vecna  into  who  he  is  in  the  DnD  lore.  As  a  human  he  somehow  rose  to  become  one  of  the  greatest  sorcerers  ever  known  (  presumably  through  his  pact  with  The  Serpent  ━  theorized  to  be  an  alias  of  the  demon-god  Asmodeus  by  some.  The  Serpent   is  depicted  in  DnD  lore  as  "made  of  cloud  and  lightning  snaking  down  from  the  sky  and  whispering  into  Vecna's  ear,  telling  him  the  secret  of  lichdom." )  and  in  death  eventually  reached  demi-god  status  as  a  lich.  Well  the  inspo  once  again  here  is  clear.   Dustin  described  Vecna  as  Mindflayer’s  5  star  general  for  a  reason.  He  has  never  been  wrong  before,  why  are  we  so  confident  he's  suddenly  wrong  now ?  Why  would  these  themes  be  continually  repeated  in  Vecna's  conception  and  creation  if  they  aren't  somehow  relevant  to  the  character ? Further,  the  vines  (  The  Mindflayer’s  physical  vehicles  )  were  shown  to  behave  the  same  way  as  they  always  have  before  Henry  was  even  in  the  Upside  Down.  He  cant  be  the  one  actually  controlling  them,  at  least  not  all  the  time,  which  means  there  is  something  else  seemingly  intelligent,  possibly  evil  and  highly  powerful  working  along  side  him. Henry  claims  the  Mindflayer  made  him  Vecna  and  in  the  original  script  this  was  suppose  to  be  more  explicit,  with  the  Vines  having  a  big  part  in  Henry’s  terrifying  transformation.  The  original  script  details  Henry  being  assailed  by  supernatural  jolts  of  lighting,  which  rip  off  his  clothes  and  burn  his  skin,  followed  by  the  "Vines",  which  began  to  similarly  attack  and  transform  him  into  Vecna. What  creature  do  we  know  who's  body  looks  just  like  a  storm  cloud,  thundering  with  the  same  red  lighting  we  saw  "transforming"  Henry ?  What  creature  do  we  know  has  been  in  the  Upside  Down  before  Henry  and  thus  the  only  one  who  could  be  controlling  the  "Vines" ?  The  Mindflayer. Now  is  it  possible  that  this  is  somehow  inverted  in  Season  5  and  Henry  is  just  the  guy  behind  it  all  cut  and  dry ?  Sure,  maybe.  But  with  everything  we've  already  seen  in  canon  that  I've  mentioned  here,  this  would  leave  a  big  plot  hole  for  how  any  of  that  shit  was  happening  before  Henry's  arrival  in  the  Upside  Down  for  me  personally. It  seems  as  if  Henry  is  actually  a  medium  for  the  Mindflayer  to  act,  and  a  TOOL  FOR  IT,  rather  than  the  other  way  around.  Until  season  5  shows  otherwise  ( And  I  don’t  think  its  going  to )   For  a  more  detailed  look  at  the  MF  and  surrounding  elements  click  here. 

THE  LAB  MASSCARE: There  are  many  reasons  for  why  Henry  killed  the  other  test  subjects  in  the  lab.  This  doesn’t  just  come  in  one  shade.  Survival  is  the  leading  one,  but  behind  this  we  have  the  fact  that  Henry  only  learned  to  harness  his  powers  through  sadness  and  anger,  two  emotions  that  can  be  very  intoxicating,  even  when  utilized  by  someone  who  doesn’t  have  a  life  of  lived  trauma  and  oppression  behind  them  like  Henry  does.  We  also  have  the  fact  that  Henry  saw  the  other  children  as  enemies,  given  they  viciously  bullied  Eleven  for  no  good  reason  and  he  saw  his  own  childhood  of  ostracization  and  bulling  in  their  interactions  with  her,  which  was  clearly  upsetting  to  him. Ultimately,  Henry  killed  them  because  he  could  not  save  them  and  because  if  he  left  them  alive  they  would  only  be  used  as  weapons  against  him  and  Eleven.  The  children  in  the  lab  were  not  allies  to  him  and  Eleven,  many  were  extensively  brainwashed  by  Brenner  and  he  was  not  wrong  in  believing  this.  Many  of  them  would  do  anything  to  please  “Papa,”  this  including  beating  and  abusing  Eleven  with  glee,  possibly  to  the  point  of  being  willing  to  kill  her,  and  thus  would  easily  include  using  their  remote  location  abilities  to  track  Henry  and  Eleven  down  if  they  escaped.  It  was  a  worse  outcome  to  leave  the  other  subjects  alive  than  it  was  to  kill  them.  I'm  sorry  to  say  it,  but  this  is  justifiable/excusable  homicide,  not  cold  blooded  murder  for  fun.  

DR.  BRENNER: Henry’s  mercy  on  Brenner  was  mostly  vindictive.  He  wanted  Benner  to  live  knowing  he  had  taken  everything  away  from  him,  that  he  was  powerless  and  that  he  lost  all  the  control  and  oppression  he  had  cruelly  lauded  over  Henry’s  head  for  most  of  his  life.  It  was  really  a  power  move  because  ultimately  Henry’s  relationship  with  Brenner  was/is  a  deeply  fucked  up  one  due  to  years  of  psychological  and  physical  abuse  and  torture.  Ultimately,  he  wanted  Brenner  to  live  and  witness  his  escape,  witness  the  loss  of  everything  he  had  tried  to  build  for  years  and  witness  everything  else  Henry  would  come  to  do  free  of  Brenner’s  imprisonment.  Vecna’s  motives  for  for  continuing  to  leave  Dr.  Brenner  alive  are  very  much  the  same. I  have  also  written  some  other  thoughts  on  Henry  and  Brenner  here  +  more  thoughts  on  Henry’s  time  in  the  lab  +  powers,  etc.

HENRY  AND  VECNA: Simply  put  Vecna  is  Henry  but  Henry  is  not  Vecna.  Vecna  is  the  result  of  Henry’s  “death,”  as  much  as  he  is  the  result  of  Henry’s  “connection”  with  the  Mindflayer  entity.  As  previously  discussed,  it  seems  the  Mindflayer  entity  was  always  a  malevolent  force  that  amplifies  and  feeds  on  feelings  of  sadness  and  anger.  This  is  why  Vecna  is  so  warped,  both  physically  and  spiritually.  This  is  why  Max  explains  that  Vecna  can’t  see  anything  within  people  but  hate  and  darkness.  This  connection  with  the  Mindflayer  changed  him  on  a  metaphysical  level.  Henry’s  body  was  mutated  by  the  unique  constitution  of  the  upside  down  and  his  merger  with  this  entity  to  become  the  wickedly  powerful  creature  that  is  been  dubbed  “Vecna”  by  the  hellfire  kids. By  all  logic,  Henry  should  have  died  after  he  entered  the  Upside  Down,  not  just  by  the  multiple  lightening  strikes  he  apparently  suffered  (  Note  again  these  strikes  of  lightning  were  of  a  supernatural  nature,  they  are  further  manifestations  of  the  MF  but  still,  they  were  not  fucking  around  )  that  horrifically  wounded  him  to  the  point  of  deformity,  but  also  the  fact  he  had  to  have  fallen  from  a  couple  hundred  feet  at  least.  Somehow  he  didn’t  die.  There  is  no  logical  explanation  as  to  why  “Vecna”  is  or  would  actually  be  “alive”  in  a  normal  sense  given  what  we  were  shown  in  canon.   But  we  have  seen  that  the  Mindflayer  has  the  ability  to  reanimate  creatures  that  have  supposedly  died  as  well  as  literally  create  brand  new  creatures  such  as  the  Spider  Monster  in  season  3.  (  The  Demodogs  in  the  Russian  prison  are  a  good  example  of  some  type  of  reanimation.  )  Its  more  likely  that  Henry  did  “die”  after  he  was  thrown  into  the  Upside  Down,  whether  from  the  supernatural  lightning  his  body  conducted  or  from  hitting  the  ground  from  the  seemingly  endless  height  he  fell  from.  Its  all  thanks  to  the  influence  of  the  Mindflayer  and  his  psychic  link  with  it  that  he  was  ‘revived’.  Meaning  he  was  apparently  able  to  get  up  and  simply  wander  around  the  upside  down  dazed  and  mesmerized  until  he  found  the  Mindflayers  “physical”  body  and  the  two  “linked”  together. This  also  explains  why  “Vecna”  was  able  to  take  several  head-on  rounds  from  a  shot  gun,  all  the  while  being  set  on  fire,  and  continued  to  live  and  function  through  the  whole  ordeal,  even  after  falling  at  least  a  dozen  feet  out  of  a  window,  to  the  point  that  he  was  able  to  get  up  and  escape  with  little  effort.  There  is  no  logical  explanation  for  any  of  it  other  than  that  Vecna  is,  in  fact,  “undead”  in  some  way. In  his  human  life,  Henry  hoped  to  use  his  powers  to  change  the  world;  to  make  things  better  for  people  like  himself.  As  Vecna  he  is  opting  for  more  brutality  and  something  much  darker,  likely  a  lot  due  to  his  heavy  corruption  from  the  Mindflayer,  though  he  still  believes  he’s  doing  this  for  a  good  reason,  remembering  his  own  goals,  which  is  Henry’s  remaining  “human”  element  coming  through. Basically,  in  the  story  Vecna  embodies  all  three  major  archetypes  in  the  horror  genre.  He  is  the  killer,  the  monster  and  the  ghost.  This  means  he  is  a  vindictive,  driven,  malevolent  creature  who  is  not  bound  to  human  mortality  but  has  a  hauntingly  tragic  and  human  past. Vecna  is  vengeful  and  ruthless.  He  kills  with  impunity  not  because  he  likes  killing  but  because  it  brings  him  closer  and  closer  to  his  “goal”  of  “reshaping”  the  world  that  hated,  abused  and  rejected  him.  Vecna  targets  his  victims  for  very  specific  reasons  that  allow  him  to  believe  these  attacks  are  less  murders  and  more  “mercy”  killings.  The  kids  Vecna  targets  are  suicidal.  Its  suggested  they  are  going  to  commit  suicide  which  is  why  Vecna  steps  in  and  "collects"  those  particular  victims.  His  motives  are  for  them  to  join  him  in  getting  revenge  on  the  world  and  society  that  has  given  them  such  pain  that  they  are  literally  heading  toward  killing  themselves  as  Vecna  relates.  I’ve  talked  about  Venca’s  personal  “method/ritual”  of  killing  and  its  “symbolic”  refences  to  his  human  life  and  in  general  here.  ( Cw  for  suicide  mentions. ) Henry  on  the  other  hand  has  a  killer  instinct,  and  will  kill  if  he  has  to,  but  he  is  not  Vecna  and  his  murders  are  almost  always  survival  or  revenge  based.  Henry’s  goals  included  more  typical  anarchy  for  the  sake  of  political  and  systematic  change;  to  bring  about  a  better  quality  of  life  for  oppressed  and  marginalized  individuals  like  himself.  Henry  and  Kali  were  the  same  in  this  regard  and  this  why  I’ll  never  believe  they  weren’t  connected  or  that  they  didn’t  have  a  positive  rapport,  or  that  it  wasn't  extremely  likely  that  Henry  played  a  part  in  Kali’s  escape  from  the  lab.  This  is  at  least  my  personal  headcanon  and  will  remain  that  way  until  canon  tells  me  otherwise.  So  far  though  canon  is  heavily,  heavily  suggesting  this  is  true.  Basically,  Vecna  is  more  a  Samara  Morgan  and  Henry  is  more  a  Magneto,  to  put  it  simply. "A  PREDATOR  BUT  FOR  GOOD": Henry’s  speech  to  Eleven  and  his  interest  in  spiders  has  resulted  in  a  lot  of  the  fandoms  insane  misunderstandings  about  Henry’s  character  and  what  his  actual  motives  were  and  what  he  actually  represents.  I’ve  been  over  it  in  a  previous  post  but  to  largely  quote  that  post:  Henry’s  self-label  of  “solitary”  creature  and  his  relation  to  spiders  is  not  suppose  to  clue  us  on  to  some  innate  evil  within  the  character.  Completely  the  opposite  actually.  Henry  has  spent  his  life  only  ever  knowing  scorn,  rejection  and  exile  from  others.  Whether  this  exile  is  imposed  on  him  by  others  or  self-imposed  to  cope  /  feel  safe,  this  is  a  heavy  feature  in  Henry’s  life.  This  single  feature  made  most  of  the  fandom  convinced  that  Henry’s  interest  in  and  relation  to  spiders  was  scary  and  proof  of  “psychopathy”,  because  they  think  of  spiders  as  scary,  weird  things  that  need  to  be  avoided  or  eradicated;  they're  just  not  viewed  as  living  creatures  worthy  of  respect  or  sympathy  despite  the  fact  they  very  much  are.  Its  very  ironic  that  people  took  this  away  from  Henry’s  speech  as  he  was  actually  explaining  the  opposite. Henry  literally  says  he  relates  to  them  because  they’re  a  misunderstood  creature,  a  creature  that  people  hate  and  only  want  to  exterminate,  and  that  people  have  always  treated  him  the  same  way.  He  takes  comfort  in  being  able  to  relate  to  something  so  much  and  finds  them  inspiring  as  a  result.  He  draws  strength  from  them.  They  made  him  feel  safe  and  seen.  He  feels  more  empowered  and  less  alone  when  he  thinks  of  them.  Unfortunately,  a  lot  of  people  somehow  boiled  this  down  to  “Spiders  kill  things,  spiders  are  scary,  spiders  are  unrelatable,  spiders  are  emotionless  so  that's  what  Henry  was  trying  to  tell  us  about  himself.”  Which  all  couldn’t  be  further  from  the  truth. Henry  further  spoke  about  the  experience  and  unending  stress  of  anyone  who  can  not  conform  to  societal  norms,  anyone  who  couldn’t  live  up  to  societies  “expectations”  and  the  restrictive,  unfair  standards  of  what  is  good  and  right  vs  what  isn’t  as  these  standards  DO  NOT  apply  to  everyone.  They  are  largely  unnatural  and  that  it  is  downright  evil  to  try  and  enforce  them  on  everyone  since  it  is  impossible  for  everyone  to  fit  into  the  “mold.”  The  mold  being  heavily  bias  and  flawed  from  the  start.  He  is  saying  that  all  this  nonsense  has  been  made  up  by  evil,  bigoted,  stupid  people  in  power.  He  is  talking  about  the  real  struggle  “othered”  people  face  against  societal  and  systematic  oppression.

He was quick to use the Northland Bank’s funds to purchase a beautiful home slightly north of the bustling harbor. You were a little annoyed that he hadn’t consulted you and you could have paid for it yourself, however the pride in his eyes of being able to provide for you (ahem Childe provided for you, but neither of you say anything) just filled you with acceptance over the new developments. Shortly after, you decide to invite him to stay with you, not really knowing if he had even had a place to sleep in the first place. 

Zhongli preened under the attention you gave him at home. Almost every night, the two of you had accustomed yourselves to wrapping in eachothers arms and basking in the warm embrace of the other. These wonderful moments in your shared home gave him more meaning than he’d ever had before. His existence was now only to please and provide for you and your happiness.

Freedom was not his forte, he was the Archon of contracts. The great Rex Lapis had sworn to protect these people in the place he called home. As his definition of home shifted from the vast and diverse lands and mountainscapes of Liyue towards you and the warmth and love that you provided, his decision became clear. These people could care for themselves for the time being, and he wasn’t going to be going too far. 

When he broke the news to you, he had blushed at the way a smile broke across your face and you embraced him with fervor. He had planned for you two to live in your small home near the Guili Plains, but your begging to live somewhere with a few more people prompted him to decide to move to Qingce Village. After all, his home was wherever you were. 

You were the one who had to do most of the working and wage earning as he had no mora. He felt a bit guilty when you would come home exhausted every few days and he was just brewing some tea for the two of you. To be fair, the tea he made was very good and he was trying to master how to cook certain dishes so he could please you. 

Traditional husband and wife roles had shifted considerably as Zhongli was staying home and cooking and cleaning while he waited for you to come home from work. Your home itself was located in the outskirts of the village, allowing for a slightly longer travel, but privacy that Zhongli now desired. He was more and more relaxed and trusted you enough to mostly shed his troublesome human form. 

His draconic features were more apparent as he relaxed by your side in the spacious home. His golden eyes had a more prominent glow and two sharp curved horns protruded from his head. His nails were longer and more sharp and some days, parts of his skin would be shiny with scales. He was still in a human form for your convenience, however it helped him rest when he showed parts of his real body. Perhaps one day he’d show you his true self, but he’d have to do it in a secluded area, he is supposed to be dead after all.  

Zhongli in retirement was far more interested in children than he would have thought. While you might not have been technically married yet, something which he was eager to fix, he still wanted to start a family with you. After several long talks you decide to hold off for the moment, whether you want to have children or not, Zhongli is anxious to one day expand the home the two of you have created. 

Truly, he is much more domestic and eager to help you in any way he can. Especially in the bedroom. As he is slightly more dragon like now, those features seep into your more intimate moments. He’s more keen on marking and claiming you than he was before. Probably because he views you as his and is loath to allow others near you. She strums her guitar beautifully with a nice tone into it. The Y/HC then starts playing on her guitar and started singing. No one knew that she has that kind of talent, yes she is a daughter of Apollo but people at camp only know her as a great archer. That’s all.

As she was singing and playing her guitar, Y/N didn’t notice someone listening to her sweet voice. And that is, Leo Valdez. The son of Hephaestus was mesmerized by your voice. He was about to go to Bunker 9 when he heard someone’s sweet voice.

“Wow,” Leo mumbled to himself still listening to your voice, he was enchanted by your voice, and him being Leo, accidentally step on a tree branch.

And so you stopped.

“Whose there?” You ask while standing up and look around to search for someone. But you didn’t saw anyone.

“Shit.” Leo cursed and without second thoughts he hides from a large tree. And so shrugged and fix your belongings. You then walked back to your cabin so that you could train for archery.

As you left Leo was still in awe because of the sweet voice that you have. But smack his head because he doesn’t know who you are. So he sighed and walked back to Bunker 9.

It was time for dinner so all of the campers are now eating and talking. Leo was still distracted because he was still thinking about you.

"Leo? Are you even listening?" One of his siblings asks him he turned around at his sibling and scratches his neck.

"No, um what is it again?" Leo answered and he started to listen to his sibling but then he saw you - at the Apollo table.

'She's a daughter of Apollo, of course.' He said to his mind.

After their dinner, Chiron then told them the annual camp sing-along would happen. But then Will spoke. “Um, Chiron one of my siblings suggested that we would show some of our talented singers at our cabin. If it’s OK with you, could we do it tonight?” Chiron smiled at Will and nodded.

“Of course you can Will!” All the campers cheered but of course, the loudest was the Apollo cabin. ”Alright heroes finished up your food and let’s all gather at the amphitheater.”

 All of the campers excitedly finished their food. Because they know how amazing it was to see the Apollo cabin perform.

But not you, you are a nervous wreck! No one in your cabin knows you could sing, hell! They don’t even know you have such talent in it. They just thought of you as a good archer. That’s it.

As all of you went back to your cabin, you are silent. “Hey Y/N are you OK?” Will asks you with such a worried tone. You gave him a smile and nodded.

“Yeah of course Will I am, don’t worry about me.” You answered him with a smile and went to your bed. As you went near, you sat down, and then you heard some of your siblings talk.

“Are you guys ready for your performance tonight at the amphitheater? Gods I can’t wait for tonight!” You heard your sister says while the others also gush because they are also excited.

But you of course. None of your siblings know that, because you’re a shy person. “Yeah, of course! I can’t wait to show you guys what I want to perform.”

One of your siblings then turns to you, while you were fixing your stuff. “ How about you Y/N? Are you going to perform?”

You turn around and shook your head no. "I'm just going to watch you guys. You answered him. Austin raises one of his eyebrows. 

Austin is one of the talented Apollo kids when it comes to singing, and he is also the one who keeps telling you to let out that hidden talent of yours.

Because he knows your hidden talent. 

The thing is though, you didn't know about that. He accidentally heard you sing inside the cabin when you think that you're alone. He looks over and when he notices that everyone was out. He then spoke."Really? You have a nice voice though, you should sing." You stopped what you're doing and looked at him.

"What the fuck? How did you -" but he then cut you off.

"First of all, language. And second, you're not smooth sister. Y/n I heard you sing. You have a great voice. You should sing, and let that talent of yours. You're a daughter of Apollo. I will put your name there, and no, you can't give me excuses." He then left and closed the door.

'Well, I'm going to exposed no matter what anyway.' You thought to yourself.

All of the campers are now gathered around the amphitheater for the performance. While Leo is still bothered about the girl that he heard.

"Seriously Valdez, what's inside your mind right now? I keep talking, but you're not listening! And before you say, nothing; I know there is something. So just say it!" Piper told him, Leo just rolled his eyes at his best friend.

"Oh just calm down beauty queen. It's just really nothing." He told her Piper just scoff and ignored him, which Leo is glad. After few minutes of chatting with their friends and siblings. 

They then heard Chiron cleared his throat.

"Good evening heroes, it is our annual camp sing-along. But before we start our sing-along, we will first hear the Apollo cabin's musical talented people." Everyone clapped their hands together.

The first one who performed was Austin, who everyone knows was one of the talented Apollo kids. Then Leo saw you - holding your guitar.

"Well, there's our answer to why Leo is not himself." Leo heard Percy sarcastically said and also heard his friends laughed.

"Really Valdez? My sister?" But he didn't hear Will's voice. Because you started strumming your guitar and then he heard you sang. Everyone was silent when they heard you sing.

"She's the one helping inside the infirmary right?" Piper asks, but Leo was still not listening.

"Yeah, her name is Y/N. I didn't even know that she sings. She's too shy to perform too. I guess Austin put her name to let her perform. " Will told her and smiled when he heard you sing.

When the song was over, your sister Kyla dragged you and all of your siblings were squealing because that was the first time they heard you sing.

"Just go over there Leo, we can literally see that you like her," Annabeth said. But Leo was too shy.

"Oh for the love of the Gods!" Piper said and dragged Leo to get to you."Hi, you're Y/N right?" I'm Piper, your brother Will's friend. This is Leo. He loves the way you sing. And he also wants to ask you out. Is it OK for you?"Piper smiled kindly at you, while you blushed.

"What - Piper! I - I me - mean wo -would you?"Leo stutters out and rubbed his neck, and you giggled.

I mean you already know Leo, because of how loud he is, and how he also helped out build things for the camp. Not saying any word, you nodded.

"Well that was good isn't it Leo? He will see you tomorrow, Y/N." Piper wink and dragged Leo away from you.

"I owe you big time Pipes," Leo said.

"Oh, you do. The daughter of Aphrodite said. And so, Leo was now excited about the date that he is about to prepare. And he can't wait.

Hordak can’t catch a break even on his birthday...

Oh fandom, you really like this sort of drama don’t you? 

A few days ago, on Hordak’s birthday, there was this ‘interesting’ post in the tag – since, apparently it’s impossible to get any peace even on that day.

I was  too tired to answer it at the time after being on call the day before so, here’s my delayed answer to all of that:

First off: this post has this bit in it when asked what that person dislikes about SPOP.

 He doesn’t need to get a redemption and he doesn’t get one in the show. 

None of his actions constitute a redemption arc. The man merely acknowledged his personhood and freed himself from his master and God. That’s what his arc was about: the right to have a personal identity. 

He gave himself a name and wanted to be his own person. That’s it. That’s all he wanted.

The man was merely freed from Prime’s influence- an influence he was born into since he’s been specifically manufactured to serve as a disposable mass produced soldier and worshipper of Prime.

 If the argument that Catra was “forced” to commit crimes and thus she is not completely guilty of them since she was under duress – then the argument doubly holds for a person who has been directly programmed and conditioned to do so under the threat of death or mental rape (purification).\

Even while away from Prime, he was still conditioned to obey and brainwashed by Prime’s cult. He literally knew nothing else – he was not meant to. It’s how indoctrination works.  

Prime’s clones aren’t people to Prime, they are tools. Those clones, while cut off from Prime still want to serve and please him: That’s what Wrong Hordak’s purpose in the show is- to show us just that.

Hordak is not considered “OK”  because Entrapta likes him. Hordak is merely shown – by Entrapta that he could live apart from his cult and have worth outside what Prime tells him he has. 

Just like real life cult victims, he needs an outsider to help him see a way out of the cult. The nature of indoctrination and brainwashing makes it impossible for the brainwashed person to know they are brainwashed unless someone points it out.

To offer a bit of context as to why. I have never been on social media before SPOP or in any fandom and as such, I have never encountered the ‘all men are evil’ discourse that seems to infest these places. It’s been quite a bit of culture shock for me. 

What is it that makes anyone think it is ok to judge a person because of an accident of birth? (being born male)

Why does hate for 50% of the human population get such a free pass on these platforms? Misandry is just as terrible as misogyny. You are being biased against another human because of their gender. I don’t care that males are perceived as ‘privileged’ – that doesn’t make it ok to be terrible to them unprovoked. 

How does hating all men help achieve equity?

Do you realize that this sort of discourse is exactly how you radicalize people against the very cause you are championing? You breed hate and adversity for the rest of us who actually want to to have a discussion on the topic. 

I’m a feminist myself (in a country where feminism is hard-work) and let me tell you, making all men hate us does nothing but push away potential allies and make it a lot harder for our voices to be heard.

Feminism is about equality, not women dominating.

Now onto the second post: the one comparing Catra and Hordak with the question of which of them is a better person. 

This whole war orphans that were personally abducted and tortured into serving the horde HC that some ppl have is really starting to get boorish. This has been going on for more than 6 months. 

I have no idea why everyone thinks he went down chimneys and stealing babies left and right while cackling villainously. The man had a busy schedule of brooding in his lab, wallowing at his inability to use insulated cables and having his device blowing up in his face with the occasional Skype call to Shadow Weaver to see what the Horde is doing. 

And yet, to a part of the fandom, this is what he looked like:

And if you don’t believe me about the lab recluse thing, you don’t have to, the show pretty much states it for me.

Hordak is a recluse that stayed in his lab and let the running of the Horde and most operations to Shadow Weaver and later Catra. He did not personally abuse anyone and he is not the origin of the cycle of abuse.

Shadow Weaver was a child grooming manipulative woman before she even joined the Horde – she did this to Micah while she was not “evil” or presumably abused by Hordak.

Even if you want to HC that Hordak abused her somehow, he is still not the one who started the cycle: Horde Prime is. 

The whole fandom seems to forget about the eldritch monstrosity that created a whole army of brainwashed slaves to worship and die for him. Prime is the one that sent Hordak to die and gave him the motivation to try to prove himself worthy of life and love. If you want to point fingers, point them at the origin of all of this. This fandom has a strange Prime blindness. He is never talked about when it comes to being the start of all of this.

If Prime didn’t exist, Hordak wouldn’t exist. If Prime hadn’t sent Hordak off to die, then his clone wouldn’t have accidentally ended up on Etheria. None of the things in the show would have happened.

Adora would have died of exposure in a field, the monarchies on Etheria would have continued as they are and the planet would have continued to exist in despondos. 

He is a dictator, yes. So are the princesses. Monarchies are dictatorships where the ruler is born into power. Hordak gained his through military might while Glimmer was born with hers and enforced it with tradition. I don’t really care to play “who’s the better dictator”. The princesses have their power because of the runestones- magical rocks put there by the First Ones to channel the planet’s magic and use it as a weapon. How come no one talks about that?

Do you think a king/queen keeps their crown without effort or subjugation of their subjects? 

Also, Hordak had never interacted with Catra before SW dragged her before him to be judged. He was indifferent to etherians in general and didn’t seem to care which of them were his underlings so long as the operations were running smoothly. He was more focused on his portal and returning home than on anything else. He did not set out to “ruin lives” or quest for power. What he wanted was to return to his deity and become a mindless part of the whole again – that is as opposite to power hungry as you can get.

Catra was directly abused by Shadow Weaver throughout her childhood. That makes Shadow weaver responsible for 100% of that abuse.

Catra was found in a box by Adora and adopted by Shadow Weaver. Hordak didn’t know or care that she existed.

He is responsible for the war, he is responsible for the war casualties and the property damage. He is not responsible for Shadow Weaver being a terrible person and mother figure.

Again with the orphan thing. We have 5 cadets in the show. 

Adora was found in a field. 

Catra was found in a box. Lonnie, Kyle and Rogelio are unexplained. The only lizard ppl we see in the show are in the Horde or the Crimson Wastes. The other two could just as well be the children of some of the soldiers. 

I may harp on about what a bitch Shadow Weaver is – the reason I do so is because she is legitimately terrible to the two girls in her care.

I was the unfavorite growing up, I WAS the Catra in my family who could do no right while my sibling was the golden child. I don’t however hate Shadow Weaver. She is a cartoon character in a show and she does the things she was written to do. Hell, she is a very compelling and believable villain. Her motivations are clear and she is consistent. Her voice actress portrayed her splendidly and her character design is superb. I like her but that doesn’t mean that I don’t acknowledge her role in the story. I don’t however make up parts of the story to make her more evil than she was or treat my headcanons about her as absolute fact. 

Again, sigh: Prime is the worst villain in the show. He is quite literally Nyarlathotep and does this to planets:

How is that not worse?

I love Catra and it genuinely annoys me when people erase her agency or try to paint her as one-dimensional victim. Catra was an antagonist for most of the show and she rocked it! She was 400% more efficient at it than cloneboy. Give the queen some damn respect and recognition! Catra had a lot of agency and her actions moved the plot of the show more than those of the protagonists. (they were mostly reactive).

Catra pulled the lever of the portal in a moment of distress after a breakdown, a Shadow-Weaver related breakdown because that’s how trauma works.

Hordak didn’t make her do it, he didn’t send Catra after Adora either. These were Catra’s choices. They came from a place of hurt but they were her choices still.

The portal was a means of transportation, not a weapon. Building it was not Catra’s mission, it was Hordak’s. He built it so he could contact Prime and either summon him here or go home –whichever course of action Prime wanted. Again, Hordak wanted to go back to this:

The only person who knew the device was dangerous was Entrapta and she tried to warn Hordak about it. Catra was the one who stopped her, violently so, then sent her to die on Beast Island- the fate Entrapta saved her from a season ago. Catra then tried to have Hordak open the portal before it was ready.

When he wouldn’t – she pulled the lever herself because that is how desperate she had gotten at that point, to show Shadow Weaver how wrong she was. That is how hurt Catra was by her mother figure’s betrayal and abuse.

Don’t take that away from her. Don’t call it curiosity or naivete or whatever. She knew the portal was dangerous but she wanted to prove Shadow Weaver wrong so badly that she didn’t care at that point. She had been pushed that far. 

Catra’s actions led to Angella’s death but she was not directly responsible for it. She didn’t activate the device to kill Angella, it merely happened accidentally. Catra was however glad it happened and wanted to profit from the aftermath of her death.  

Hordak didn’t care or plan to kill Angella personally. There is no in-show moment where any of that is portrayed. Since he doesn’t care about the specifics of running the horde seem to know what they are conquering at the moment, it seems that that was usually a task reserved for his second in command.

Hordak doesn’t even know what his own army is doing.

Again with the Hordak “drilling into orphan’s minds”… I seriously doubt that any of them had ever seen him out of his lab or that he came up with the propaganda himself.

Manipulation is more Shadow Weaver’s game not his. For all of Hordak’s faults, he is not deceptive or manipulative. If anything, he is woefully incapable of spotting lies. (it might have something to do with him being born in a society where lies were almost impossible because of the hive mind and Prime being able to browse his thoughts at a whim- as such, it wouldn’t be a skill he would have been able to develop).

Hordak canonically despises deception and lies.  I really don’t understand where this image of a manipulative and cunning Hordak comes from. He wouldn’t be able to plot himself out of a paper bag if his life depended on it.

First off.. S4 Catra was his equal, not his subordinate. Don’t take that away from her. She earned it.

And again:  Prime created the system. He made clone slaves and programmed them to serve. His clones have hardware installed for the express reason to facilitate his control over them. He has a religion in place to make sure their thoughts do not stray from his purpose. I am legitimately boggled by this fandom’s tendency to completely forget about his existence.Does anyone really think that these people that are born “prechipped” and programmed to know nothing but Prime’s Light are really knowledgeable about human morality?

That they would know that conquest is bad when that is the express reason for their creation? 

If I were born in that situation, I’m not sure I would have known any better. Hell, if any of the clones even try to disobey Prime, they would get either mindraped (erased) or killed for the effort. They really have no choice, even if they knew that killing in Prime’s name is wrong (they don’t) they really can’t do anything about it. They have no choice but to be what they were made to be. I find it personally abhorrent when these designer slaves are held accountable for what Prime has made them do.

And to the people that say Hordak was free of Horde Prime once he was stranded on Etheria.. That is not how indoctrination works. The fact that I can’t go to church this Sunday because I’m locked in the house and can’t find the keys doesn’t make me an atheist.

Hordak was serving Prime even on Etheria. He keeps mentioning it to both Entrapta and Catra. He started the war because that’s what he thought Prime wanted of him and that’s what he’s been programmed to do. Personal and informed choice really doesn’t factor into his decision at all.

He is not sympathetic because Entrapta likes him. Notice how I haven’t brought up his relationship with her up to this point?

He is sympathetic because he literally had no choice but to do the things he was indoctrinated into doing. He was build and programmed for it, just like all the other clones. They are not able to deviate from that because of the way Prime functions and rules over them.

There is no point in the show where Hordak relishes over his status as a ruler or the “luxury” it affords him. He does not engage in the same behaviors his progenitor manifests.

He attempts to emulate Prime in order to project authority in the only way he knows how but since those are some really big shoes to fill, he is woefully inadequate. 

If Hordak had been power hungry, he would have stayed in despondos and ruled his own faction. Being away from Prime is the most powerful and autonomous he’s ever been and yet, he wants to throw all of that away in order to be a powerless, nameless part of the whole. What Hordak wanted was to be enslaved by Prime because that’s what he had been created for.

“vengeful” – and how did Hordak manifest this vengefulness? Who did he take revenge on in the series?  

“apologize” – when and where in his 3 minutes of screentime would he remember everything after 2 mindwipes, realize that the whole worldview he had since inception is wrong, realize that he had been mistaken into doing the horrible things he did and then go to all of the characters and apologize for it?

Would anyone be convinced of that had it happened in 3 minutes? I’d rather they don’t redeem him than do a shit job at it.

Very true. He’s not a better person. He’s just a person in an impossible situation. Both Hordak and Catra were handed a raw deal, I don’t understand why everyone insists on pitting them against one another. They both did bad things and they were both in horrible situations. The specifics don’t really matter since neither of them would have done the things they did had they been more fortunate.

This is the exact reason for which I don’t hold Cara’s actions against her. Catra’s only model of success was Shadow Weaver. She emulated her abusive mother figure because she had no other example and because she wanted to please that woman. It does not excuse the way Catra acted but it explains it.

I really don’t understand why some people want Catra punished. I’d rather she get love and help. That is what she needs. In time, she will want to do better and be better by herself. She doesn’t need to be forced, heavens know, she’s been forced enough as it is.

They are really different. Catra got an abusive, shitty and violent childhood. Hordak got this:

He was literally robbed of a childhood. 

She was taught by Shadow Weaver that weakness gets you killed. Hordak was not allowed to have emotions to begin with, or thoughts of his own, or a name...

Comparing to victims of abuse to see which one of them is more likable is such a strange concept to me.

Catra was robbed in s5 too. I don’t hold that against her. I  blame it on the writers. S5 could have been a lot better. 

i haven’t officially posted my own treasure planet headcanons, so that's what this is! some of this might be ooc but i don't really care because they are fun to think about, so yeah, enjoy!

this is gonna be long so i’m gonna put it under a keep reading

it makes me so sad that they supposedly don’t keep in touch at the end of the movie, so that's where headcanons come in. Jim and Silver went thru WAY too much to not keep in touch, Silver couldn’t leave Morph without being able to see him again either (Silver literally refers to himself as Morphs ‘dad’ in one scene!!) they at least send letters or have some sort of burner phone, with Silver being a wanted criminal and all. for a while they probably just sent letters, Jim talking about the academy and Silver sending little gifts from his escapades such as a lava rock or an especially interesting coin. Jim keeps all the gifts in a box, along with the letters but if he feels especially attached to a gift, he’ll set it on his window sill of on the rim of his mirror. as much as I like the idea of Jim getting Silver a jitterbug/ladybug, realistically Silver would be the one to set the idea into motion. Jim gets a larger gift and its a little phone, made of parts that Silver could scrap together (or on he found in a shop on a traders planet), he immediately sets it up and texts Silver. it was really nice for them to talk in real time and were probably already discussing the idea, even though Silver could get caught, so Jim was really excited about it. Jim now keeps Silver updated on life events and Silver calls every now and then to tell Jim about his travels. Silver hasn’t quite figured out how to send photos but once he does, he starts sending some everyday (including some hilarious selfies, akin to what a dad would post on Facebook).

Silver absolutely visits, for a while it was very, very scarce because he was still wanted but was sneaky enough to come and see Jim every few months. he comes and hangs out at the inn for a few days while his crew is out at bars or stocking up on items for their next adventure, as well as they know better than to fight their captain on his decisions. during these visits, Silver tells Jim (and anyone brave enough to sit near them) stories about what he had seen, creatures he had encountered and wonders they had discovered. Jim tells Silver about his time at the academy, new friends he’s made and what he’s learning, including some complicated stuff. sometimes Jim even get so into it, he brings out a textbook to express his point. while Silver is pretty smart, he has no idea what Jim is talking about (because its usually math and obscure facts) and usually just smiles and nods as Jim rambles. (lol this may be me projecting my ADHD onto Jim but i have the feeling he info dumps to people hes comfortable with)

speaking of the academy, i think despite all the combat training and captaining that Jim is learning, i think Jim would be really interested in math. like a surprising amount. it would probably be difficult to start off but once he did, hoo boy he could not stop. there were some hurdles he had to face but eventually he landed in a pretty advanced math course (not the highest but still pretty up there, maybe like calculus or applied mathematics). knowing some math was important as a captain, having to deal with probability on a ship in the Etherium, but Jim was fascinated by numbers and the way they made up the world. i think he would be really interested in physics or theoretical stuff, which is difficult but i think he could do it. he probably uses his previous experiences in space to help him visualize the math, which helps a lot.

the first time Silver came to the inn, Jim practically tackled him. which was no big deal since he’s almost double Jim’s size, Silver was more worried about Sarah and what she thought of him being a pirate and all. Jim assured him that everything was ok and he asked her but Silver still felt a bit nervous. he felt like he was intruding on her territory. but while Jim had run upstairs for something and Silver stood sheepishly in the doorway, Sarah came over with a smile on her face and shook his hand. he wasn’t expecting that at all, he was more ready for a glare from the kitchen or even a talk about ground rules. Sarah talked to him about how excited Jim was (she was also kind of excited, she had met plenty of pirates and was almost as fascinated as Jim was) and how she was grateful for Silver staying in her sons life. Silver felt much more comfortable after that and they started talking too, (not sure if it would be romantic or not, it would be cute but i love them just being friends as well) they became pretty good friends. Jim loved it, even if they weren’t married or Silver wasn’t biologically related to him, he felt like he had a full family again. when Jim was busy or sleeping, Sarah and Silver would chat over coffee or in the kitchen while Sarah cooked, Silver helping. Sarah would probably rope Silver into helping her at the inn once she learns he can cook and he kind of falls into a routine. come see Jim, hang out, when Jim is busy/out, go put on an apron.

(this one is 100% projecting lol) this is a pretty loose hc, especially since it started as a joke but now i really like it. i think Jim, as well as Silver, is transgender. Jim wasn’t really expecting Silver to be trans, as are most (he passes super well lmao). i mean, many pirates were gay, why can’t space faring ones be trans? hell, Silvers crew probably has a slew of queer folk among them, if not all of them being some sort of LGBT. body modification looks like a regular thing in their world, so i think Silver has already had top surgery, whether he was planning to or not. by that i mean that i think Silver could have been injured, woke up and found that something was missing. worried he may have become more cyborg, he checked, winced and found that bandages had been bound around his chest. ‘well that's out of the way’. despite not wanting to be vulnerable around his crew, most of them if not all of them know he’s trans since most of them didn’t see it as some sort of weakness, it was just who you were. (if ya’ll are interested, i have some crew hcs like gender and sexuality but this post is mainly about Jim, Silver and Sarah)

(continuation of the trans hc) when Jim came out to Silver, there’s a moment of silence between them. in Jim’s head it was awkward, but in Silver’s, things started clicking. Jim was worried Silver didn’t understand and quickly explain but Silver comforted him, and explained that he understood. Jim was the confused one now and Silver quickly cleared that up, explaining that he too was trans. Jim was relieved, confused and surprised. he hadn’t expected that outcome but that wasn’t bad, if anything he thought it was cool. he had more in common with his adoptee-dad than he had thought. Silver now makes sure to emphasis his compliments when Jim is working, hoping to boost Jim’s ego and make him feel better. it works and Jim feels even more comfortable in his own skin. (i have another part about Silver taking Jim to get top surgery but they would need Sarah’s permission first, not that she’d say no but Silver doesn’t want to encounter her wrath xD)

i’d like to think that Silver takes Jim up on his ship, not for plundering but just to sail around. the new crew had already seen Silver in action and decided nobody wanted to question him about Jim, especially since he was causing any trouble. eventually Jim couldn’t really visit Silvers ship anymore, being a Navy officer and all but that was ok, Silver still came to the inn and Jim had his own ship/s.

Silver knows all the drama around town, mostly because Sarah hears it fro customers and then gossips to Silver about it. Silver will come in, say hello and she’ll start, he’ll probably respond with something like ‘no way, they did that?’ and then he’d listen as she worked.

when talking to Jim, Silver refers to Sarah as ‘ma’ and Sarah starts referring to Silver as ‘dad’ since they have become Jim’s collective parents, and it doesn’t bother either of them.

after Jim lets Silver get away at the end of the movie, Silver stays on his own for a while, though no one knew that. he got a larger boat, just big enough for him and he wandered planets, drifted through space, just thinking. he wasn’t sure what to do next, he was a wanted man but he also had no crew. the thought of settling down passed in his mind but he couldn’t bring himself to do it, he was comfortable in the Etherium, he would get cabin fever after a week. so he continued being a pirate, it was rough work but he loved being among the stars, exploring the galaxy. Jim knew this and didn’t want to push Silver to stay at the inn for a long amount of time but they still made it work.

Silver has little experience with children, having none of his own until Jim (i’ve seen people give Silver children as his backstory but he doesn’t strike me as that kind of guy, not that he wouldn’t want kids but he’d have to choose between family life or pirates life. that's too much for him.) the most experience Silver had was with helping people at port and with his crew, anyone young enough to need guidance and smart enough to listen.

Silver loves music but really only know sea shanties, drinking songs and some old folk music, but he can still be found singing with his crew and humming while he’s working. Jim on the other hand listens to a lot of music, especially after treasure planet. (this is assuming they have all the music we have xD) he listened to brooding teenage music before, like Teenage Dirtbag or bands likes Greenday, but now he has a few shanties on his list as well, plus some classical music for when he’s studying or relaxing. he also listens to ABBA, either because he just likes them or because his mom plays them in the inn.

Jim, Sarah and Silver have way more pictures of each other now. the inn now has multiple family photos with Silver included, Jim has a framed image of the three of them and Silver has a little scrapbook. it’s the only thing he’s ok with having on his ship, still worried about being seen as ‘soft’ (even if he is a big softie and everyone knows it).

Silver usually wears a pretty simple working outfit with his nice coat and hat but when he does want to look nice, holy shit does he do it well. sometimes when he’s dressed up he wonders why he doesn’t do it more often just for fun but then he thinks of the countless times he’s had to throw out shirts stained with blood. he would never let that happen to his nice clothes.

i really like the idea that if things had been different, Sarah Hawkins would have been a pirate, and a damn good one at that. maybe she wasn’t in this life but that doesn’t stop the occasional daydream and questions to Silver about his lifestyle. he offers to take her on his boat when he takes Jim and she hesitates but says yes in the end. Jim definitely didn’t get his wanderlust spirit from Leland. (this is a little ooc for Silver but not for Sarah, i 100% believe she would be a pirate) maybe after Jim joins the Navy, he buys a small boat, big enough for him and his mom and they go on trips where they just enjoy the Etherium.

you cannot tell me that the second Silver was out of earshot on the long boat that he didn’t cry his eyes out. motherfucker may know how to hide his feelings but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have them, he’s a sucker and he knows it. when he gets more comfortable around Jim and Sarah, he finds himself getting way more tearful from touchy feely stuff. Morph being cute? sobbing. Jim called him dad? waterworks. literally anything that tugs on his heartstrings? has to go to his cabin to cry his eyes out. the first time Jim and Silver met up again, they both just started sobbing.

Silver, Jim too probably, has PTSD (sorry if i get anything wrong, i’m not sure what else to call it) to an extent. it isn’t intense to the point that he gets overwhelmed with emotions and has flashbacks (unless it has to do with his missing limbs) but he does have some nightmares and prepares for the worst in most scenarios. Jim has to remind him that the bang at the door wasn’t pirates, it was just a unruly customer and that the silhouette he saw outside was just a passing ship, not canon fire. Silver apologizes every time, despite not doing anything but switch to his sword and brace but he can’t help but feel bad for worrying them. i can’t imagine the kind of terrors he has about loosing his limbs.

Silver, when he detaches his arm, will forget he only has one hand. sort of like that video with the astronaut back on Earth, but instead of gravity, he keeps handing stuff to his cyborg hand, dropping the item and they being confused when he can’t find whatever he had. he’s just so used to it by now, he’ll even gesture with his missing hand and not realize he can’t convey what he’s doing. Jim has been asked to hand his stuff, Silver will try to grab it without look and ask Jim why he didn’t hand it to him. Jim has to remind him that he doesn’t have his cyborg arm, leaving Silver apologizing. its always lighthearted between them and they joke about it but Jim knows Silver is still bothered by it a little.
