How They Treat You While on Your Period -

In the Twisted Wonderland head-canon collection by Crimson

Since I am on my period, I decided to make some head-canons about it and make it everyone's business ^.^

Note: All characters. Character can be depicted as Yuu or an Oc. Gender neutral pronouns. Character can get a period, do with that what you will. Platonic. I did struggle with this so and how certain characters will react, so sorry if some of these are short and plain. I also thank Discord friends for the help with certain characters!

Warnings: Just menstrual business. Mentions of blood. Some strong language. Long post.

Everything was looking as if it will be a good day, you are hopeful for this in fact! It was supposed to be a day where you felt like taking on the world! However, life loves to make you humble yourself. So now, all you can do is suck it up and power through the unbearable cramps (even though you wish you could just curl up in a ball and just die).

But there is always a shining light in the unfortunate presence of-

Heartslabyul:

• Riddle has a doctor as a mom, he knows what a period is. So when he notices that you are struggling with just walking to class and asks what the matter is, he springs into action. You know his mom had him run to get her some tampons when she was running late to work, he knows what to look for. Just tell him what kind of stuff you'll need and he'll go and get it for you. Midol? Yes. A heating pad? Absolutely. And depending on what kinds of things you like to eat on your period, Riddle will try to steer clear of super sugary foods but he will make the exception for strawberry tarts and tea, predictable like always and junk foods. But if you plead with him a bit, he'll let it slide and won't complain as much if you decide to snack on some chips. Riddle will also be more lenient towards you, meaning that if you're struggling with work or club activities, he won't be too harsh on you and advise you to just relax.

• Trey has a younger sister, he has definitely dealt with periods before and, like Riddle, he will get you anything that you need. Will definitely use this as an excuse to bake you all the sweets you can eat, but he'll also make sure you brush your teeth properly. Trey doesn't want you to get a cavity now. He's not that irresponsible.

• Living with two older sisters, Cater has some experience when it comes to periods. He will tease you by sending a pic of a piece of styrofoam with the caption "is this what you need?" while getting you the stuff you actually asked for. Cater carries around an "emergency period" kit in his school bag, so if shark week hits unexpectantly, all you need to do is go over the best person in the world and you'll be taken care of. You can always rely on Cater.

• Sometimes Ace likes to pretend he doesn't know what a period is just to be an asshole. If you ask him to get some supplies for you, he can and will complain about how much you owe him for it because it's embarrassing. Whenever you both hangout, Ace will chill out in another room and just text you if he wants to talk with you, he'll also occasionally toss chocolate bars and water at you if he feels like "feeding the beast" in his words. And if your nice to him, he'll take pity on you and give you a rough massage. Isn't he just the greatest?

• Deuce grew up with a single mother, he had to do the tampon/pad run whenever she ran out and was stuck in the bathroom. You can bet he will make sure you are as comfortable as possible and get you everything you need, heck, he'll even take over any responsibilities that you have, including your homework please stop him. Will get into an argument with Ace because he thinks it's funny how Deuce is practically your personal maid.

Savanaclaw:

• Leona will not give one singular fuck about your period, or at least only half a fuck since the scent of menstrual blood bothers his delicate, princely nose. If you ask if he could spare some money so that you can get more tampons/pads, he'll say no to your face but will have Ruggie go get you what you need (he is not stepping outside his room just to get Tylenol, be real). But Leona will show mercy towards you and let you take naps in his room which is just an excuse to use you as a pillow.

• Ruggie is also someone who won't really care if he finds out that it's that time of the month for you. And if he is your last resort and your so desperate, just promise to pay him and he'll get everything that you need maybe add in a bit of extra cash for the trouble, or donuts, bitches love donuts. Ruggie will tease you whenever you need to lay down when the cramps overcome you, "must suck to be you right now". Also, he won't really be bothered by the smell of menstrual blood, he's smelled worse.

• Jack will come up to you with concern because he smells blood on you and asks if your injured, will get very embarrassed when he realizes that it's just your period. Brotherly instinct takes over and he'll get you a chocolate bar/your favorite period snack and warm water, then act as if he wasn't doing it because he cared or anything, he just didn't like seeing you curled up in a ball during pe but seriously, get up, people are staring.

Octavinelle:

• Merfolk don't have menstrual cycles, so Azul is stumped whenever he finds out that you're menstruating. He's not ignorant on what a period is he had to learn human biology at a certain point in time, but he really doesn't know what to do when your uterus is trying to kill itself. Instead of asking what you need, Azul takes it upon himself to do extensive research on periods, so he knows what exactly to get for you. Why would he do something like that? Well Azul just loves to show just how much he embodies the benevolence of the Sea Witch he wants something from you, run.

• Jade also doesn't know how to deal with you once he finds out that you started your period, but unlike Azul, Jade actually asks you what you need to be comfortable in your trying time. For whatever reason you trust him with this information. Jade does take care of you, although you feel as if there was something else to this, but you're too much in hell to think too deeply.

• Floyd would act as if you were dying. Each and every time you have a period, he will squeeze you and hang off of you because he "doesn't want to lose his shrimpy". Depending on his mood he will either get you what you need, tell you to fuck off, or get you the wrong things like getting the smallest size of tampon/pad or the cheapest brand of chocolate.

Scarabia:

• Kalim is definitely someone who forgets periods are a thing and when he sees you barely holding on, he panics and thinks you're dying. But after telling him what's going on, he'll calm down and want to help in any way that he can. This guy has 40 siblings and most likely bombarded the maids with questions when they were taking tampons, pads, and treats to the Asim kids rooms, he knows what's up. Kalim will insist that you just sit back and relax while he takes notes for you or just straight up do your homework stop him please.

• Jamil has a younger sister who makes periods his problem, he knows the drill. But does he actually want to? Not really. He has so much on his plate that he can't really bother to take care of someone else, however if he sees you looking like your about to keel over and die, he'll step in with a pack of midol and a heating pad.

Pomefiore:

• At first Vil would brush you off whenever he finds out about your period because he has more important things to worry about, but then stops and springs into action because you are on your period and you will get an acne break out if he doesn't step in. Vil will not tolerate a bad diet and will make sure you are eating things that are high in iron. While your grateful that he wants to keep you well, it's also hell. But don't worry, your skin will be flawless and hey, you get a heated blanket out of this.

• Rook knows when your cycle will start before you do and he will send you a period care package filled with all of your favorite things for your period, including some skin care products. You don't even want to know how Rook figured all of this out.

• Epel is mainly grossed out by the blood. Yeah, he's obviously not going to actually see any blood, it's just the thought of it that has him feeling queasy. He'll suck it up for the most part, especially when he sees your discomfort and offers to give you a massage to help soothe the achiness of your body. Epel also gives you drinks with peppermint in it in hopes of settling your nausea.

Ignihyde:

• Not only will Idia not care about your period, he will ignore you so that it won't become his problem. Unless you threaten to unbox one of his special figurines or to delete one of his save files, then he will let you camp out in his room and get you whatever it is you need just leave his things alone please-

• Ortho will notice something is off and will do a full body scan on you, then he'll proceed to air out your business like it's a health class. But not to worry, he made sure to do some quick research about menstrual cycles and will make sure that you are eating well and help you fully relax as if you aren't dying from the inside out.

Diasomnia:

• The only one who would even know to deal with periods in the Diasomnia Foursome is Sebek, however Malleus will definitely do all he can to make sure you feel pampered. He will be extremely concerned when he smells blood on you, thinking that you are severely injured and will try to conjure up a spell to heal you which would be fantastic cause periods suck ass. You unfortunately stop and explain to him that this is normal. Since Malleus has never taken care of a real person before, he struggles a lot to figure out just how to make you feel comfortable. Will bring back a piece of styrofoam to you because Lilia and Cater told him to.

• Lilia will take your health into consideration when finding out you're on your period, he'll whip up a lot of things that are rich in iron and will help sooth those annoying period pukes and poops aren't you the lucky one?. Lilia will also give you a back massage to really work out the soreness of your tender muscles. He starts calling you his little ketchup packet after this.

• Silver thinks you are the bravest person because you explained to him what exactly happens during a period and will do everything he can to get you through it he makes it seem like this is such a serious endeavor. Silver mainly lets you use him a pillow and a heater, pretty much letting you sleep away the aches and pains.

• Sebek will be exasperated with you and argues why he has to do everything for you he doesn't need to do shit for you, he just cares about you but doesn't want to admit it. He'll sit you down on a comfy chair with a nice blanket while he gets you everything that you need, complaining the entire time. Sebek checks on you periodically to see if you need anything, and if you ask him for something, he'll just huff and grumble about being needy but still go do it.

(Doing head-canons isn't really my thing, but if there is anything you'd like to see, I might do it if I have the motivation for it.)

I didn’t anticipate getting called into work especially one one of the rare days my little one is able to visit but here I was, fuming mad and looking over my employees.

“How does someone fuck up this badly?” I ask calmly, taking in the faces of the people sitting before me, all dressed in suits but avoiding my gaze. I ran a hand through my hair and looked back over the board.

“Well? Did you all go mute?” I ask, a bit harsher this time,

A woman clears her throat and my eyes snap to her I see her flinch at my hard gaze,

“Well, Sir, uh, Martha went on maternity leave.” She says

“And? Is it not your job to assign the workload to another person?” I ask and she nods

“Yes, it is, I thought I had sent an email about it to Anthony, Sir.” She responds

“Ah I see. So you didn’t send the email to Anthony.” I say as calmly as possible she once again nods. I pull my hair back into a ponytail and look over the same documents again.

“Christina, you’re fired, if you can’t do your job you do t have a place here. Anthony, you’re hired onto her position, congratulations you get a raise. Oh and sam please post a job opening and I was no less than 10 resumes and applications on my desk by Monday. As for the rest of you let this incident be a fucking example that I don’t tolerate slacking at this company.” I say before turning to leave, I walked my way to my car and climbed in. I thought about calling my baby who’s at my house, alone and unfamiliar with everything, they’ve only been over a couple of times and I felt bad to leave them.

I decided I’d stop by their favorite fast food restaurant and order their favorite meal, food always cheers them up. Once I’ve gotten the food I drive straight home as fast as I can, as I’m coming up the driveway I can hear the soft sound of them pattering around, I smile to myself as I hear them running towards the door as soon as I start unlocking the door, I open it just in time to catch them falling, food held safely in one hand and my arm wrapped around them to keep them safe. I take in their shocked face followed be relief, I stop for a second to admire the adorable way their dressed,

They look up at me briefly before I smell it.

They’re bleeding.

I quickly sit everything I’m holding on the very end table they almost fell from, I inspect their foot and quickly find the bleeding toe, I look up and see the tears running down their face and I can feel panic rising in me.

Panic, I haven’t felt that in so long.

I run to the bathroom grabbing some cartoon character bandaids they insist I keep for them because they’re clumsy, and a small first aid kit. I run back and sit on the floor infront of them before I realize I have no clue what I’m doing,

“Oh god fuck, what did I do?” I ask, looking up at them

“You don’t know what to do?” They ask me and I shake my head, I can see the grip on their stuffed animal tighten in worry,

“Love, I’ve been undead for nearly three centuries, the last time I went to a doctor they gave me leaches and prescribed me chlorodyne which is now known as chloroform.” I said with a chuckle as they looked at me with wide eyes

“I, I, I don’t know, I can’t think.” They mumble and I for the first time take a good look at them, they’re little. They’re little and their hurt and I don’t know what to do.

I feel angry, I’m angry at myself, how could I let this happen?

“Daddy?” They ask and my eyes snap up to their eyes,

“Yes, love?” I ask, trying to keep my voice steady

“I think I just need a bandaid, it’ll be okay.” They say and I nod, holding the box up to them, they pick out a very cute and very tiny bandaid, I follow the instructions on the back, making sure the cotton pad is directly over the bleeding.

I stand up and scoop the into my arms, they wrap their legs around my waist and bury their head in the crook of my neck, I smile and hold them tightly, hoping that maybe I can love away the pain.

“Oh, yes, I got you some food.” I say and they perk up,

“Did you get my favorite?” They ask and I laugh,

“Yes, Ofcourse.” I say,

Once I get them settled down and eating with their drink poured in their favorite sippy cup and their favorite cartoon I excuse myself, I quickly grab the now empty end table and take it to the back yard, with a single throw the end table is nearly obliterated, pieces of wood and screws litter the yard, I pick up every piece I can before throwing it in the garbage and make my way back inside.

Atleast for now I don’t have to worry about the end table anymore.

Dreaming of You. Derek Craven runs a successful gambling club; he was born in a drainpipe!!! He named himself!!! He lived on the streets, he totally made a success of himself, and now he can't deal with his sense of inadequacy and his dirty, dirty hands sullying Sara (though he will for sure do stuff to her... I mean, if she was wearing a mask and they got started and he realized it was her during... he might as well finish it...)

Secrets of a Summer Night. Simon Hunt is self-made, and he comes off as a super successful industry tycoon. It's hOT. And of course, the conflict of his book is him asking the poor but blueblooded heroine to be his mistress, while she's like "omg he's so COARSE!!!"

Marrying Winterborne. Would recommend reading Cold-Hearted Rake, which does have a noble hero, beforehand for context. Rhys Winterborne is Welsh (!) and owns a department store and he's always like "spend my money babe".

Seduce Me at Sunrise--Kev Merripen is kind of like... a servant for the Hathaways? But he's also grown beyond that. He's most definitely not nobility, and nor is Cam in Meet Me at Midnight (which is also good, but I don't love it quite as much).

Again the Magic--McKenna was a servant for Aline's family, was sent away because of their romance, and made his money abroad

Lorraine Heath has some, which I love:

Between the Devil and Desire. Just re-listened! Jack Dodger was a child thief (the bEST child thief! He's Dodge!) and now owns a gambling club that's super successful.

Midnight Pleasures with a Scoundrel. James Swindler was also a child thief/con artist (a swindler perhaps) and is now an inspector. There's also a novella following this book about their friend, Dr. Graves, who's obviously a doctor and was a graverobber as a child--but I haven't read that one yet.

Her Sins for All Seasons series has 4/6 heroes who were born illegitimate and therefore aren't noble--Beyond Scandal and Desire has Mick, who runs a club, The Scoundrel in Her Bed as a hero who does similarly but is kind of halfhearted about it (and was a horse slaughterer when he was younger), and The Duchess in His Bed has a hero who runs a club for WOMEN!!! There is another self-made hero I've yet to read in Beauty Tames the Beast (I think?).

Elizabeth Hoyt has a lot of heroes who aren't noble:

Scandalous Desires--Mickey O'Connor is an extremely successful river pirate.

Thief of Shadows--Winter runs an orphanage for poor lil babies

Sweetest Scoundrel--Asa is trying to build up a pleasure garden (he's Winter's brother)

Most of Joanna Shupe's Gilded Age heroes are not noble, because American. Special shoutouts to:

The Rogue of Fifth Avenue--the hero is a former thief-turned-lawyer/fixer for a rich man, who falls for his boss's daughter

The Prince of Broadway--Clay Madden runs a casino and begins mentoring his hero (in a revenge plot)

The Devil of Downtown--Jack Devlin is a gangster lol

In the Fifth Avenue Rebels, the first three heroes (basically everyone but Lockwood) are not noble but they do come from money. Shoutout to The Lady Gets Lucky (Kit is rich but demands to be taken seriously by starting a supper club) and The Bride Goes Rogue (Preston is Vague Tycoon Man).

Grace Callaway has:

Pippa and the Prince of Secrets--Cull runs a band of CHILD THIEVES and lives on the criminal/vigilante edges of society

Glory and the Master of Shadows--Wei is a martial arts master who is recovering from some pretty severe trauma, while also handling some dirty dirty deeds on the low.

Sarah MacLean's first two Bareknuckle Bastards books (Brazen and the Beast and Wicked and the Wallflower) have criminal underworld heroes, and Knockout has an inspector hero!

Stacy Reid's A Scoundrel of Her Own has a hero who was born poor but has risen up in society (which is now why he wants to claim his upper class childhood sweetheart as his own muahahahaha--)

Beverly Jenkins's heroes generally are not noble, because she doesn't write about white Brits, but they do often come from money. Galen Vachon in Indigo comes from a wealthy, influential Creole family, and the hero of Forbidden is passing for white, but is actually the biracial son of a plantation owner.

Info: It’s Valentine’s Day and Prescott had received a letter from his secret admirer which made him wonder who is his valentine’s date.

Summary: (beginning) It's Valentine's Day and Magnifico is sad that he thought his ex-wife Amaya doesn’t love him as the day use to be their favourite time of year to spend time together. Mortimer offers to demonstrate how to pick up women, but his own attempts all prove fruitless. And Goofy decides to help the king to win his queen back.

Meanwhile, Prescott, doesn’t have someone to spend time with, receives a love letter from his secret admirer and try to figure out who it was, with the help of Lumiere’s advice to show love and respect to the woman as the gremlin doesn’t know how to be a good gentleman.

Mickey was about to go on a date with Minnie when he spotted the Mad Doctor who was only helping Charlotte with the decorations for tonight, Mickey goes to Doc and tell him to meet him at his bedroom tonight as he had something to tell him.

(End) Goofy tells his friends; Minnie, Mickey, Oswald, Ortensia, Donald, Daisy, Clarabelle, Mickey and Gus that Prescott figured out who his secret admirer really was - Anna! Much to Elsa and Kristoff’s surprise but decided not to ruin the moment as they saw Anna and Prescott enjoying ice cream together.

Mortimer was about to be roasted by Magnifico after all the ideas went wrong when Amaya stopped him by telling him that Valentine’s Day wasn’t the same without him and they decided to put their differences aside and spend time together while it lasted. Hades and Maleficent are pleased to see them together again, much to Mortimer’s surprise.

Later, Mickey went to Mad Doctor’s room and tells him that he’d like to give each other a try as a relationship in secret before they share a kiss.

Logline: While on the brink of death, Will decides to pay Mike a late-night visit after not seeing him for a year and a half. Logline 2: Mike finds out in the craziest way possible that his best friend (who he hasn't seen in over a year) was actually a rooftop-swinging, tight suit-wearing, complete idiot of a superhero and it all starts with waking up to Spiderman bleeding out in his living room.

“Good” Mike whispers back, pensive. He watches Will breathe in, shoulders shrugging up, and breathe out, blinking slowly. The golden night lights make for a warm reflection against the window Will's side is pressed up against, illuminated. Mike's eyes trail out the window, carefully wondering what to say. If anything at all.

“So, Princess Mononoke?” he asks, after a few minutes. Will’s face brightens.

In college, a group of 18 year old freaks find a way to love themselves for it // Mike's been clutching onto the pages of a self-made screenplay he thinks everyday of showing to Mr Albertine, his drama teacher. One day, he does. 48 hours later, Mr Albertine has an offer to make.

If it’s not too much can you give us a quick rundown on the special story! Not ready for Silvios backstory especially with his mom

Definitely, Nonnies...sorry to just drop that and run for a bit. Buckle up because this is going to be SUPREMELY long and rambling, but I hope I get it all across!

Alright so....there are a few things you'd need to know going into this. The main thing is an event that's referenced in Rio's route which I've talked about before, and it shows up in Silvio's as well - clearly this is a defining moment for both of the boys. It's when Silvio and Emidio's mother, the queen, poison's Rio's mother at the Most Tense Tea Party ever. Rio witnesses his mother falling violently ill, spitting up blood though she's not dying, trying to help her but the doctor is conveniently gone and the queen is simply sipping her tea like 'goodness me, I certainly have no idea how this happened or how to help' which is a load of horseshit.

Emidio's watching all this, same evil smirk as his mother, but Silvio's more horrified - though he holds his peace as Rio's crying and begging for help. That's the point where Rio accuses them all of being not even human...a moment we get Silvio replaying more than once in his memories through the route.

Another is that through the route it's implied the king of Benitoite doesn't like Silvio, and there's some secret Silvio's mother tells him that seems to relate to this.

SO, that said...the end story POV opens on Silvio musing about his cravings/thirst never being sated in his life, no matter how much he drinks or the one-night stands he indulges in. Never satisfied, and that's the state he was wondering how to achieve when he met Emma.

We jump back to where Rio had disappeared from Benitoite three years prior, and the king basically has Silvio and Emidio hauled before him and he's questioning them on Rio's whereabouts - Silvio knows Emidio's got something to do with it and he's pissed to realize that Emidio made a move while he was distracted with prepping for a voyage.

The king's not buying their denials whatsoever, and Emidio throws Silvio under the bus, implying that he'd be the happiest if Valerio up and vanished. The king, who Silvio knows pretty much hates him and Emidio, is happy to buy this - and he has a defiant Silvio hauled off for 'questioning'. Said questioning really turns out to be torture, as Silvio expected it would - not bad enough to kill him, because technically he IS a prince and all, but he wakes up in pretty bad shape, beat all to shit as a frantic Carlo busts in the dungeon. Knowing full well it's a sign of how frustrated the king is over losing Rio...this wasn't ever really about getting information.

Carlo's practically beside himself over Silvio's state, he's brought a first aid kit at least. (The whole bit about how every part of him hurts and all he can taste is blood T_T ) Silvio pulls his shirt and stuff off and Carlo's freaking out even more now, seeing the damage, and comments on it, and Silvio accidentally lets slip that this time wasn't even that bad, basically - this happened to him as a kid all the time too.

Carlo's horrified and Silvio's like, ah shiz ran the mouth, but he's thinking back on how any time he bullied Valerio as a kid the king would beat the shit outta him as punishment, and feeling sick all over again at the memories. Carlo starts ranting, wondering why the king hates Silvio so much and why he'd do something like this without even a shred of proof Silvio was involved in Rio's disappearance, but Silvio's just pfft that's how it always is right?

Carlo goes on to protest that Silvio's a good man, and he's frustrated the king doesn't seem to get that. Silvio scoffs at the idea, and at Carlo's insistence he is - he's remembering how 10 years prior he'd picked Carlo up when he'd found him being bullied in a shipyard by a fellow worker and saved him basically, finding out how smart the guy was when he spoke with him and deciding to put him to use on his voyage. Silvio insists to himself he's not some nice guy he just did it because it benefited him...but Carlo's basically become his right hand man out of some misguided sense of gratitude.

Carlo doesn't know what he was like as a kid tho, Silvio thinks. And aloud he does tell him how he used to bully Valerio and steal anything important to him a long time ago so the king still is suspicious of him, tho Silvio thinks Emidio was worse than him even.

Cue some Silvio flashbacks when Carlo asked why - thinking about how everyone genuinely loved Rio and the king spoiled him and doted on him. Blessed golden child basically, unlike him who wasn't liked by anyone. As long as he could remember, his mother had forced him to take lessons all day, every day, and he never made any friends or even had time to play. The king hated his ambitious mom, who was willing to do almost anything to get her son onto the throne, fawning over his mistress while always looking at Silvio's mother as if she were something filthy.

It never made him feel good about himself, having been born of a woman like that...and he hated his littlest brother, whom everyone adored. That was the stupid thing that started him bullying Rio.

Carlo's baffled by this tho because from what he's seen, Silvio and Rio seems to get along pretty well, so that must all be in the past? Silvio scoffs that they're not friends it's just that Rio's gotten to the point where he's got nothing he cares about to take away, so there's no point in bullying him anymore it's boring. He'd do it again tho if Rio did finally get something important.

But he's thinking that's half true, half a lie. The whole 'bullying Rio because he hated him thing' changed one day, when he followed after his mother when she slipped away one night as she often did, and little Silvio overheard her meeting with a shady dude who sold her poison from Jade. It won't kill someone, just make them horribly sick (it's literally used for torture in some countries he says), and the queen is delighted.

Shady man questions the queen about not wanting Rio's mom dead, and the queen says she wants her to suffer - if she suffers, so does the king. Only one day far in the future when she's done playing with her toy will she finally break it, but the queen proclaims she'll kill the woman's son first just for extra misery inflicted on the king and his mistress.

The shady man says he thought this was all revenge for the king cheating on the queen, but the queen says no, she doesn't give a shit about that. She hates the king. She had a lover before him, but being engaged to the king ruined all that.

Little Silvio runs away after that, horrified and scared out of his mind at having finally seen the 'real' face of his mother. And then after this came that disastrous tea party where the queen had used the poison on Rio's mom, Silvio KNOWING it was going to happen but totally powerless to stop it or do anything about it, because he's just a freaking kid. And little Rio had cursed them all for being inhuman.

Later, unable to hold his peace and wracked with guilt, Silvio says to his mother that she went too far today, and confesses that he SAW her buy the poison from that man when his mother tries to play dumb. But she cuts him off with a smile he now (as an adult) recognizes was half-mad, and tells him not to worry himself over any of this, just concentrate on becoming king. She seems to take perverse delight in imagining the king's face if Silvio becomes the next king, and then says she'll let him in on a good secret. His strict mom hugging him sweetly for once, terrified to hear what she says but she goes on anyways and tells him...that he's probably not even the king's son.

She swears him to secrecy, this is just between her and him, and he's more than a little freaking out. It's not like they can prove or disprove that he's the king's son, and luckily he's got the blue eyes of Benitoite royalty so nobody can say he's a bastard, but the queen clearly seems to believe he is. And it's easy for him to suddenly realize that the king seems to believe it too, judging from how he looks at Silvio.

His mother is a beast, he thinks...and born of a beast's womb, he's also one. His status as a royal and the comfortable life that offers, even without any love, is now in jeopardy...and his little boy's heart is terrified.

He only hates Rio more now, hating even the sight of him for the way the king acknowledges him as his legitimate child and how his future is secure...but he doesn't wanna be a beast like his mother. This is where he started trying to get Rio to fight back when bullied, and when he said he couldn't protect him from the awful people around him - by this he meant his own mother and her evil plans towards an innocent child.

SO BACK IN THE DUNGEON Silvio's moving to make preparations to try and track down Rio, and in the meantime erase his traces to try and keep Emidio off his trail. He doesn't give a shit if the king thinks he's guilty of doing something, he's just worried what'll happen if Emidio finds him before he does since he knows Emidio's inherited their mother's desire to see Rio dead. Worrying himself over something happening to the guy and vowing to do what he can to help him.

He reminds Carlo that money can do anything, that's why he busts his ass to get it...and he thinks back again on how he'd started his first little business as a kid because he was trying to think of a way to protect Valerio and his mother from the queen's madness he saw that night. Also he was desperate to think of a way to survive in court himself if he wasn't truly of royal blood. Luckily he was good at it, invested his returns and kept making money, all so it could be a weapon. A means of power, just like his mother used to buy that poison - he thought he could fix anything with money.

Eventually he was able to use it become the youngest millionaire ever, bought off people in court anonymously and placed all his own guards in secret around Valerio and Valerio's mom, doing his best to keep them safe that way.

Then he thinks on how everyone started viewing him differently when he was rich, how the people who'd ignored him before in favor of his other brothers started fawning - especially the women were the most blatant gold-diggers. And he learned that the unlovable become lovable when they've got money. Even the king came to at least acknowledge his skill (if not legitimacy) and put him in charge of various things.

He'd thought, that people who say 'money isn't everything' are pathetic who say that just to make themselves feel better. But also with all of this, he finally stopped hating Rio much at all. Thought he finally had everything together and going his way...but he's never satisfied. If anything, his 'thirst' has gotten worse.

And then when he found Rio again, saw him smiling and laughing so happily with something precious he'd found while his memory was lost, he'd been relieved...but also all that old hatred had come roaring back to life.

OK PHEW SO LONG, SORRY...as a reward have a cute image, because from all this backstory it goes on to current times and it's Silvio very tenderly washing Emma's hair and combing it and conditioning it and generally just pampering and fussing over her in the bath the way he apparently does every night, their new ritual. And even Emma's like, what happened to 'YOU MUST SERVE ME' becauae it sure seems a lot of just you waiting on me 🥺 bathing and even dressing me

And then he's gotta smirk it's just fair turnabout given how absolutely wrecked I leave you post fuccin ;) you can't very well do it yourself when you're barely functioning

And yeah MY HEART AT THEIR CUTE NIGHTTIME RITUAL WHO'S WEARING THE REAL COLLAR HERE SIR? you are a simp and it's a family trait admit it.

Beth respects Kit as a professional. Even though she is one residency shy of being a neurosurgeon, the way the mind works, how emotions flow, is a mystery to her and Kit manages to make understanding and compassion seem like a breeze. Beth is also careful to not rely on Kit in that capacity; she doesn't make appointments with Kit, she doesn't ask for prescription refills so she can avoid going to her own therapist, and so on. They work in the same hospital though Kit has a private practice, so they are colleagues and friends, and Beth doesn't want to spoil that. Kit is a stunning woman, only a few years older than Beth, but by leaps and bounds she seems wiser, more confident, and maybe even kinder than Beth can imagine herself ever really being. She appreciates that despite everything, Kit also doesn't seem to mind having to share Andy with Beth, though not in the way the rumours suggest. Beth enjoys having an almost guilt-free friendship with someone who has a similar financial security and social class. She does not mean that in any petty, better-than-thou way, it's simply that some times things happen or choices are made that she doesn't have to explain, she doesn't have to bargain with Kit over, and is simply understood. It isn't that other people don't understand, but something innate in Beth that she feels ashamed about in most cases. When it comes to her brother, Beth doesn't feel like Kit is trying to 'get one over on him'. Beth has always felt that a lot of women interested in him, some of the men, and almost every parent still involved look at him and see not how kind and funny and silly and handsome he is, but rather the bank account and the potential future he can offer them or any children they might have. Kit already ha everything she could want, and offers Andy companionship, romance, understanding. She doesn't hate the fact that Andy is a detective and called out at all hours for his job. She's so well written, has such a rich and detailed background, and you do an amazing job making her vibrant and real. Though she wasn't his doctor - perhaps because she wasn't his doctor - Ronnie didn't mind Miss Kit. It was Doctor Prince really, but she'd given him Kit to use for her one morning when they'd made small talk over the disgusting state of the tea selection at the hospital's Costa, and his mind had just sort of stuck that as a sticky note over the label on its box for her. And with that change came another, more obvious one. There was no miraculous opening up to the woman; no fairy-tale parting of clouds or lifting of the Intense Paranoia Ron felt whenever he was within breathing distance of The Maudsley. But he could tolerate her asking him questions about himself and his life a degree of magnitude better than he could any of the clinicians assigned to sort him out. That was something at least.

That was progress.

Her query about scars didn't come from nowhere. She'd clocked the few that littered his knuckles; the one that split the knuckle on his rightmost little finger. And she'd wondered, bless her, in that gentle kinda way good people have about them, how he'd got 'em. If he had more.

He did. Have more.

But he'd not show her. And he'd not tell her either. There was too much she might glean from the fights he'd earned the ones on his hands from; too much she might imply (wrongheadedly perhaps, though he didn't know her mind any more than she knew his) from the scratched furrows on his forearms and the horror that lived on the inside of his left elbow. There was pain he'd not revisit where a steel toed boot once split his chin in two, and that'd come, in his hair now, from a battle gone too far as a young lad whose twin brother'd got rough round a curb and almost topped him without meaning to. He'd not show her those things; not tell her those things. What she got instead, after a pause that must've lasted ten and then some seconds, was-

"Yes."

If she wanted more...well. He'd play up his alogia.

Mystictober Day 22-- Doctor

The headache just won’t go away. It's been bothering Saeran for hours, and no matter what he does, it simply won't let up— he's barely gotten any work done, and he hasn't even had the energy to make his way down the hall to the toy room to let off steam on you. It goes without saying that he is beyond annoyed when he hears a knock at the door— can’t the believers just leave him alone? “What?” he demands, voice rough.

“Guess who?” The sing-song voice from the other side of the door is enough to get him scrambling across the room, ignoring the pain in his head.

“Who the hell let you out of that room?” Saeran demands. Apparently, the believers that he charged with watching your door failed to comprehend and follow the very simple instructions they were given.

“Nobody,” you assure him. You must have sneaked out, then, if you’re telling the truth— Saeran will have to increase the security by your room to make sure this doesn’t happen again. He doesn’t want to deal with you right now. “You said you weren't feeling well?” You approach him with caution, finally showing him the fear that he's been trying to elicit since the first time he went to your room. Good. You should be afraid of him.

“That's none of your business, toy,” Saeran spits.

“Can I take your temperature?” You brandish a flimsy plastic thermometer.

“Where did you even get something like this?” Saeran rips the thermometer out of your hand and tosses it across the room. Do you honestly think he's going to let you check his body temperature? Why would you even need that information, anyway? You must still be confused about your situation at Magenta, if you think he’s going to let you get away with something like that.

“I found it in the bathroom,” you explain. “Ray left all kinds of first aid stuff in there for me, but it seems like you need it more than I do right now. Cough drop?”

Saeran examines the tray in your hands, and finds, to his dismay, that you have brought the entire first aid kit, along with some food from the Mint Eye cafeteria and several bottles of water. If you got as far as the cafeteria, you probably could have escaped, so why the hell did you come back to him? Don't you have any idea what's good for you? “Who told you to go to the cafeteria?” It’s the best thing he can think of to say while he contends with the utter shock of your presence. Why the hell are you still here when you could have run away with ease?

“You never told me not to,” you point out, “Anyway, are you feeling a little bit better?”

“Who the hell are you to ask me something like that?” Saeran demands. He’s annoyed that none of his questions thus far have been answered to his satisfaction, and even more annoyed that someone like you is worried about someone like him. He can take care of himself, after all, unlike you. He doesn’t need your help. Saeran tries to knock the tray out of your hands, but you sidestep him, entering the intelligence room and setting the tray firmly on the desk.

“You kept telling me to make myself useful,” you remind him, “So that's what I'm doing. You might feel better after you drink some water.” You’re still wearing that infuriating expression of concern, with your eyebrows knit together and your lips pursed. You look ridiculous, worrying over somebody who could crush you like a bug.

“Oh, wow, what a kind prince(ss) you are,” Saeran sneers at you, flopping down into his desk chair. Mocking you makes him feel more like he’s in control, but it’s annoying that you keep making the same face. Can’t you do something more interesting? “Coming here to take care of me. Aren’t you just a saint?” He can't help but laugh at the idea of you looking after him— what could you possibly do for him that the Savior couldn't? You don’t even have the common sense to leave when you’re in danger.

Without warning, you press the back of your hand to his forehead. It feels nice and cool; for a moment, Saeran relaxes into the touch. He comes to his senses quickly, though, and before you can get too comfortable, he is grabbing you by the wrist and wrenching your hand away. You should have waited until he ordered you to do that— then, he could have let you keep your hand there. It really did feel nice. You study him with concern. “You're burning up.” You bite your lip in some combination of concentration and concern.

Saeran has heard those words before, though he can't remember where. Someone who cared said exactly that to him when he was young, after placing one small hand in the exact same spot on his forehead that you just touched. But that's impossible, Saeran reminds himself— nobody cared for him when he was young. That was why the Savior rescued him in the first place. “What are you doing to me?” He demands. Why would you make him remember something that didn't even happen?

“I'm trying to help,” you inform him, “At least try to drink some water. Your body needs fluids right now— and food, too. You might feel better if you eat, once you’re feeling up to it.”

“What are you, some kind of doctor?” Saeran has been asking questions since you got here, and the lack of answers is putting him on edge.

You just shrug, offering him a water bottle. “It can't hurt you, can it? And it might make the headache go away.” He should never have told you that his head was hurting, and he wouldn’t have, if he had known that this was how you would react.

“What do you know?” Saeran mumbles, asking yet another question. But some animal instinct deep within him seems to have other ideas, because he finds himself unscrewing the cap and indulging in a prolonged drink. It feels almost as good as your hand did on his forehead, just as cool against his chapped lips.

“Thank you,” you breathe, like he did anything for you by drinking water. How stupid can you get?

“Get out of my sight,” Saeran growls. He’s not going to let you stand around watching him with that annoying look on your face. If you want to make yourself useful, that’s fine, but even you can’t pretend there’s any use in what you’re doing now.

At least you have the sense to obey that command. “Okay,” you offer him a slight smile, eyes watery. He’s been trying to make you cry for days to no avail, but drinking water is what does it? Saeran is seriously beginning to wonder if there’s something wrong with you. Why didn’t you escape when you had the chance? Why would you take such a monumental risk to bring him things that he could have gotten for himself? “Please let me know if you need anything else. I'll sneak out again— I mean it.” You begin to collect the tray, but Saeran holds up his hand to stop you.

Like a puppet on a string, you stand still, waiting for his next command. Yes, this is how you should behave— maybe drinking water isn't so bad, if it gets you to act like this. “Leave it,” Saeran orders.

“Okay.” You sound relieved, and your smile widens, though you have no real reason to be pleased.

“Go back to your room and wait for me there,” Saeran barks. When you fail to start moving again, he raises his voice. “I said get out of my sight! Do you want to find out what happens when you don’t listen to me, prince(ss)?”

You don't even flinch. “I hope you feel better soon, Saeran.”

Bother

Hands grabbed his shirt and yanked him forwards, and Kiris clutched his staff tighter. Cool air on his back, wind ruffling his shirt, and he couldn’t hear, and he didn’t want to see. He didn’t want to—

Kiris opened his eyes and was met with the white-blue soul of the bandit. Their face was dark in shadow, but their teeth glinted white. He’d wanted bandits. He hadn’t wanted actual bandits. What a way to lose his freedom. Again. He didn’t bother biting back his wretched giggles, and they tumbled from him like viscera.

Clean

They had turned a defunct bathtub into a boat. It was a better bathtub than a boat, however, and there was no way for Kiris to power it without tipping the whole thing. The guards had given him a bundle of smoked trout and a plugged pitcher of clean water. Kiris had made them take his yellow outer-tunic to keep safe, and in return, they’d even given him an oilskin blanket—Kiris might be from Cym, but the thin cotton undershirt he wore wouldn’t be enough to stave off the night chill. All in all, the accommodations were pretty good. He’d collect his things once he finally drifted back to town.

Weigh

Waters. He’d only wanted boot polish and a dry bed. How appropriate that they were doing this over a war table. Prince Yphant na Suem, Strauv.

“Is something incorrect, sir?”

Kiris looked up. Ovria and all the other Boyars were watching him as if a stage play. Nazvili wasn’t. Nazvili, more than anyone else, knew what this meant.

No more freedom.

Kiris’ breath stalled. Those stolen coins suddenly weighed the same as Miridin’s moose, and his lock pick kit could have burned a hole through his tunics. No more—

“Prince na Suem?”

“You must understand, my Prince, that you are as I have said. What you are only seeing now, we have seen in you since Prince Thaav’s recoronation. You are—and will continue to be—a credit to Strauv.” All the words were there, all of them in the right place, but when Kiris finally dragged his eyes from the curtains Aris’ gaze was focused on how tight Kiris had crossed his arms. “My Prince,” he continued, slowly, “is there something else I should know about?”

Deny (Attenuate)

Cal slept, arm cut open and bone fragments and mash laid in blue gel under the surgery dome, limb from his elbow down in some kind of tube. A doctor hovered over him.

Madison batted at her eyes as she tried to clear them. How was she his representative? He couldn’t have known. He must not have known what that meant—cultural differences, that’s all. Harpazo was structured around families, but families weren’t defined by blood. She could refuse. She could deny this trust.

Post-Op Humor: Commentary and Dark Humor After Surgery

I had surgery to correct my deviated septum and reduce turbinates bilaterally on 19 Jun. 2023. Following are the dankest, funniest observations and bad jokes about rock salt.

This post is long.

Forgot to tell everyone: I promised my mother I would wear clean underpants with no holes in them. I kept my word. LOL! - 20 Jun. 2023

Before surgery, I asked the anesthesiologist if he knew about Neil Gaiman's Sandman graphic novels and the character Morpheus, aka Dream. I said, "You put people to sleep for a living, so I hope you know about the Lord of Dreams." He said yes! Then I said, "Good! Then I can do business with you." LOL! My sister Heather looked at me weird. I said "That's how I get to know people, Heather." LMAO! Any anesthesiologist worth their job should know about Dream. My sleep doctor - the type of doctor who does sleep studies and treats apnea - did not know about Sandman. I strongly recommended to him that he read it because his job is literally helping people to get better sleep, and he needs to know about the Lord of Dreams. - 20 Jun. 2023

Morpheus delivered real REM sleep this morning, finally. Sweet relief. Visit more often, Lord of Dreams. While sleep was interrupted a few times by a hungry cat and feeling hot and needing drinks and a bathroom break, I was able to go back to sleep right away. - 27 Jun. 2023

It has information about 10 devices and accessories for nasal irrigation and aspiration (squirt bottles, neti pots, electronic pumps, cleaning and drying tools, and manual and battery powered aspirators) for adults and children, at least 8 to 10 various saline (powders, sprays, gels, and bottled and canned liquids) and decongestant (sprays and nasal inhalers) products, and lastly an earwax removal kit. Who knew the variety of sinus and nasal cleaning products was available? - 27 Jun. 2023

Post-op appointment with the surgeon today. I'm healing nicely. Everything looks good. No rock salt crystals were found in my skull. However, a few nose goblins were suctioned out. Then stitches were removed. I can return to normal activities, including sleeping without the wedge pillow. Follow up again in 2 weeks. Now it's time for ice cream! I told the surgeon my joke about brining myself for a week with saline solution, if that makes me a salt-cured ham. He said I should be well seasoned now for people to eat for survival like in the movie Alive. We both laughed. Good one, doctor. - 5 Jul. 2023

Four weeks post-op. Doctor says I'm healing perfectly. He doesn't need to see me again. The elevator was out of service in the clinic, and I was able to walk up 4 flights of stairs (after using my rescue inhaler first) with little shortness of breath today! Best news is I don't have to water board myself twice a day anymore!!! He recommended to use saline as needed to control allergy symptoms. I don't have to use Afrin anymore. (OMG Afrin is vile shit. I'd rather saw off my head than use it willingly. They use it in office visits along with lidocaine so the scope can go up your nose.) My skull has not turned into a geode full of salt crystals. I asked. He checked. I've noticed increased airflow. When I have an allergy or asthma attack, now my airway is less constricted and I recover more quickly. (That's code for I don't feel like I'm going to die during an asthma attack.) - 17 Jul. 2023
