Dp x Dc or just Dp things I (personally) want to see more of.
Just some stuff I've seen and really liked but never see enough of.
Danny is very casually a genius and/or skilled (engineering, gymnastics, really any skill you pick):
There isn't enough of it tbh. I dont think people realise just how smart and skilled he is. Being a ghost probably made him very flexible and gave him extra abilities the average human may not have. Also he comes from a family of scientists, yeah maybe up against them he doesn't seem smart, but being "smart" comes in different forms. More often than not the ability to be smart comes from your ability to pick up on things, retain information, understand information, and use that information accordingly. Danny does that, especially with his villains. He even finds outside the box ways to defeat his villains. Like tricking Freakshow into becoming a ghost.
I just think its under utilized. A lot of Teen heros are geniuses but no one ecknowledges it. Hell, you can make it that Danny doesn't even realise just how smart he is. He doubts it and often thinks he's one of the dumber people in the room. But when sleep deprived and running on a cup of coffee he can solve a problem he hasn't even seen before the konk out for an hour.
Danny has BEEF with the JL or isn't outright a fan:
In a lot of fics the JL (especially Batman) are huge hypocrites. Like they'll barge into Amity trying to solve problems that don't even effect them, screw things up more, then offer Danny more training. Hello????? You guys being there caused the problem???? Then, in other things Batman preaches about territory and Danny will get threatened or treated with suspicion for even stepping foot NEAR Gothem, but then barges into his territory like its his buisness.
Let Danny call them out. Let him point out that everything has been fine untill they showed up. Let him get MAD. This is HIS territory, HIS haunt, HIS people. These guys have done nothing for him! Why should he accept their help when their help only makes things worse? In fics where they help him because he needed it and ended up in Gotham let him be suspicious and careful. He doesn't need to be vivasected or hurt to be warry of the crime fighting furries he just met.
Mans has the experience to know you can't trust anyone untill they prove you can.
Danny should be casually overpowered and spooky:
This isn't even he has to be experienced. He is so used to his powers he doesn't realise how scary it is. He will casually stop a punch from superman, laugh, quipe, then punch back.
He accidentally breaks stuff, walks through things, glows, its so normal for him. He apologizes and does it again because he forgot. He genuinly has no idea how strong he is, he just knows he needs to be soft on humans.
Danny and Phantom are very different personalities:
I'm not saying they're two different people. They have the same mind same person. But the way they act is so different. Danny is grumpy, quiet, whimpy. Danny is a loser, and everyone knows it. Phantom, on the other hand, is confident, he jokes, smiles, makes a game out of his struggles, he's strong. Phantom is just a good guy. Everyone (minus others) loves him!
This happens because Danny is more comfortable as Phantom or Vise Versa. Sertant trates carry over, they're nerds, they're smart, they enjoy a good pun, they're sassy. But because Danny is a loser everyone sees it as lame, but with Phantom its endearing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
None of this means you need to get rid of silly nerdy Danny. You can have that but all these other things ad depth to his character. Hes smart but not confident, he's kind but not naive, he's powerful but not violent, and he finds comfort in the fact no one knows him.
Idk. I'm not a big fanfic writer so i thought i would just share and see what others do with it.
He's doing it again...
OK y'all, be gentle with me. This is the first fanfic I've ever written. And the first time I've shared any of my writing since, well... since longer than I gather many of you have been alive.
I aim to write fanfic that is accessible to all, so this is *VERY* PG. There's one swear, one kiss, and a lot of angst. Likely not my last story exploring this idea of the MC having a secret too.
I hope you enjoy.
_____________________________________________________________ “He’s doing it again,” you hear Karlach’s sing-song voice come up behind you as you’re walking to your camp after a particularly gory fight at the goblin camp.
“Who’s doing what?” you ask the fiery tiefling who has quickly become your ride or die in this misfit adventuring party of yours. Sure Shadowheart and Lae’zel were nice enough some of the time… to be honest, you don’t really like either of them all that much on a personal level, but they are good to have at your side in battle. Karlach, though, she is your tribe. Unapologetically herself at all times, has an unquenching thirst for life, and is blunt as a brick.
“Really? How do you not see it? Did that tadpole make you blind too?”
“Really, darling, it’s more obvious than an ogre in an elf costume,” Astarion joins your gossip sesh. “We all see it. Some of us even think you should go for it. Others of us, like myself, throw up a little in our mouths when we think about it.” He plays it cool like he doesn’t care at all about any of you, but deep down you know he does, even if it’s just for a juicy rumor. You knew a lot of people like him back home, so navigating his sass wasn’t difficult for you.
“What are you both talking about?” you start to get frustrated with all of their vagueness.
“She really has no idea,” Astarion suddenly realizes.
“Gale,” Karlach stage-whispers to you. “He has been eyeing you since we left the grove.”
“What? He has not,” you try to shrug the thought off, but are secretly wishing that what they were saying was true. The moment you met the awkward wizard, something in you was set aflame. You had been hoping that no one had noticed you also stealing glances whenever you could. It didn’t seem right to find any sort of happiness here, amongst all of this. Your days of bloodshed and struggle did not lend themselves to nights of intimacy and love, after all. Try as you might to push your feelings aside, they would creep back up every time he’d say your name or have an excuse to touch you as he brushed past or magic missile any thug who dared take a swipe at you. Knowing of his affliction didn’t quell your feelings any. Everyone has their secrets after all.
“And don’t you think we haven’t noticed you, either,” Karlach says, knowingly.
“You haven’t said anything to him, have you?” you are suddenly terrified that in their mission to get the two of you together they have, in fact, blown any chance you might have.
“I wouldn’t dream of it…” Astarion trails off before suddenly becoming much louder, “Oh Gale, our fearless leader wants to talk to you,” the pale elf smiles wickedly. “Oops,” he waves at you before taking off.
Your eyes grow wide, your feet frozen in place, unsure of what to do next. You turn to beg Karlach to stay, but she’s already up ahead with the others.
“You wanted to speak with me?” Gale is suddenly next to you, his smile soft and welcoming, like a warm hug. What is it about this wizard that turns you to a pile of goo?
“Um, hi,” you say, smiling awkwardly, suddenly very aware that you are covered in goblin guts, sweat and gods know what else. You look back at him, feeling like a timid deer, seen just before it darts back into the forest.
After a beat, Gale starts the conversation back up, “I’m glad our companions called me over. There was something I wanted to discuss with you.”
“Mhm,” you squeak out, wishing that your heart would stop trying to leap out of your ribcage.
“We’ve been traveling together for a while now, fighting alongside each other, trying to rid the world of the Absolute,” his eyes twinkling more than the conversation should allow.
You hope that you’re not giving anything away by biting at your lower lip. Maybe that will hold in the words you are too scared to say.
“Anyway, I was hoping you might join me for a bit after dinner. Away from all of this,” he gestures to our party.
Your heart is about to make a break for it, but you will it back into your chest and tuck it in nice and tight before responding, “That would be lovely, Gale.”
He exhales deeply and his smile widens, his eyes sparkling even more than before. “Oh good. I was nervous you were going to say no. Tonight, after dinner, come to my tent. We’ll find somewhere quiet.”
You start to breathe normally again, your heart calming down to purr like a small kitten rather than a full grown puma. You smile genuinely, “I look forward to it.”
He raises his eyebrows and smiles back before turning to catch up with the others. You are left standing alone, a good way behind your party, wondering what just happened.
 ~*~
You find a good place to make camp not long after your conversation with Gale. You take the time to clean yourself up in a nearby stream while the others busy themselves setting up their tents and getting out cookware to make the evening’s meal. You’ll never get used to the feel of an enemy’s innards being plastered to your hair. It feels good to wash the day’s trials away in the flow of the water. It’s no warm bath, but you feel mostly clean and refreshed afterward. You pull your linen shirt over your head and make the short walk back to camp. When you return to your tent, Karlach is waiting for you.
“Well?” Karlach playfully punches you in the arm.
“I think we have a date tonight after dinner,” you say, entirely unsure of yourself now that you say it out loud. Did you read the situation correctly? Is that what this was?
“Ah, see! Didn’t I tell you?! You two will make the cutest babies, all pudgy and pink.” It’s your turn to swat at your bestie.
“Don’t get ahead of yourself there, Karlach. I’m not even sure that’s what this is. Maybe he just wants to talk about fighting strategy or how to rid ourselves of these worms.”
Karlach looks at you like you’re out of your mind. “C’mon, soldier. You know what he wants.” She raises her eyebrows in a teasing manner.
You scan the camp to find Gale finishing his tent set up across the fire from yours. He beams at you when he notices you staring.
Karlach shakes her head. “Seriously, soldier, what happened to you? Why don’t you think you deserve to be happy? Why don’t you think you deserve to be loved?” she asks, her voice tinged with concern.
The question hits like a gut punch. This tiefling knows you better than you know yourself. “It’s a long story for another time,” you tell her after a beat, sounding a little more defeated than you mean to.
She doesn’t press the matter, but follows up with, “because whoever made you think that is wrong. You deserve everything in this fuckin’ life that you fuckin’ want.” You know her well enough to know that she’s being completely sincere right now. You thank your lucky stars to have found a friend like Karlach.
“Thank you, friend. Truly, that means the world to me,” you reply, blinking hard to hold back the tears that threaten to fall.
You stand with your confidante for a brief moment, a deafening silence between you when she pipes up again. “Aces! I think the food’s ready,” Karlach exclaims, seeing that you need an out from the conversation. She’s always good like that.
~*~
Dinner is a hearty venison dish, courtesy of Wyll and Shadowheart. After the filling meal, many of your companions conveniently find their way into their tents for an early night’s rest. Karlach gives you a thumbs up before heading into her tent. Watching each companion pull their tents closed, your heart starts to race again thinking about your impending meeting with Gale. You close your eyes and inhale a calming breath before putting one foot in front of the other and making your way over to his tent. He’s sitting outside, face buried deep in a book when you arrive. You clear your throat quietly to announce your arrival. He looks up, slightly startled, but soon relaxes again.
“Welcome, welcome. Let me just…” he trails off searching for something, “Ah!” He picks up a broad leaf and gingerly places it in the book where he left off reading. “For another time,” he says, stowing the book in his tent before turning to you. “Shall we? I found the perfect spot for us,” he extends his arm for you to take, making it easier to guide the way in the pale moonlight. You step closer to take his arm. He smells like a posh library: cedar and paper. The smell is intoxicating. You wrap your hand gently around his proffered arm, the material of his tunic is soft, but the muscle beneath is more defined than you would have expected. Surprisingly, by taking his arm, your nerves are all swept away and you are able to fall in step with him rather easily.
The conversation is light as you walk, the destination not far. You arrive at a clearing with a cliff overlooking the valley below. He was right, the spot is perfect for a quiet conversation. He pats your hand on his arm and motions for you to sit. You mourn the loss of being able to touch him, but do as instructed. The wizard sits next to you, close enough that a shift in weight would brush your legs against each others’. He sits in quiet contemplation for a moment and you look over at him, not sure how to start the conversation. He is so beautiful when he’s deep in thought. He gazes into the horizon, his brown curls catching the starlight as his shoulders rise and fall with his breath.
After a moment, he starts, “I’m glad you agreed to come with me tonight,” he says quietly, just above a whisper. Is he about to tell me bad news? You suddenly feel a stab of nerves again. He continues, in that same soft voice, “I enjoy being in your company. From the moment you grasped my hand to pull me out of that stone, I’ve felt a closeness with you. I can’t explain it; but I would like to explore it, given the opportunity. You make me feel safe and not just in the heat of battle, although that is very much appreciated too. There have been more than a few times… I’m not even sure where you come from or how you know; but there you are, right by my side every time I need you the most.”
His gaze turns to you, his visage softer than you’ve ever seen before. “I feel that together we can accomplish anything. And that is a powerful feeling.” He takes your hand in his; his grasp strong, but his skin soft. His fingers are not calloused from twanging bowstrings all day like yours are. You sit like that for a moment, your hand in his, gazing out over the valley together. “You’re awfully quiet. Please tell me you feel the same and I haven’t just made a fool of myself,” he breaks the silent tension.
“Gale…” you start, turning your body to him to grasp your still held hands with your other.
“Ah, well…” he cuts you off, pulling back his hand, convinced that you’re going to turn down his advances.
“No, no. I do. I do feel the same. Every last bit of it,” your voice urgent, but barely above a whisper. “It’s just…”
Gale turns to take you in, noticing the apparent worry on your face. “Just… what? You can confide in me. You can tell me anything.” You gaze into his eyes and you know he’s right. You could tell him anything and he would continue to be by your side. You break his gaze and stare up into the vastness of the night sky, looking at constellations you don’t recognize.
“...I’m just not sure why you’d want me. I’m certainly no goddess. I’m sort of a walking disaster,” you say. You’re not one to readily admit to being less than perfect at anything. Admitting weakness and self-doubt to the man you yearn to be with terrifies you to no end.
Gale frowns briefly, “You say this to a wizard with a magic-consuming orb encased in his chest.”
You both chuckle, breaking any tension that remained. “OK, you got me there.”
Gale takes your hand once again. “You are right though, you are not a goddess. You are real. And smart. And honest. And kind. And good.” He kisses your hand lightly, punctuating each statement. “You brought our merry band of misfits together in this fight against a powerful evil. You even got Shadowheart and Lae’zel to not be openly hostile with each other. And I find that very admirable.”
He reaches a hand to lightly brush a loose strand of auburn locks from your face, your hand rising to meet his touch. You lean your cheek into his palm. The intimacy and tenderness is almost more than you can bear. In that moment, the entire world stops. Thoughts of your insecurities, your comrades back at camp, the threat of the Absolute, the fear of being killed any moment - it all dissolves from your mind. Right now there is only you and Gale and the starlight.
You sigh lightly, contentedly, and close the gap between you, timidly placing your lips on his. They are soft and warm. He tenderly returns the kiss. Maybe Karlach was right. Maybe, just maybe, you did deserve to be happy just this once.
Bowuigi Corpse Bride AU Lore Post
So I said I would probably make this and while I thought about making this into a fanfic and making ya'll read that, I decided that I need to commit to the other three (two and a half?) Mario fanfic ideas I have. So if anyone wants to make a full blown fic or whatever with this AU, feel free (but tag me ofc because I've got to see it).
(This will not be short, just a quick warning that this is a commitment).
This AU is very loosely based off the actual movie. Instead of them being in the underworld, they're just in a haunted house that Boo lost to Bowser in a game of poker, and instead of being a corpse (as the name suggests), Luigi is just a slightly annoying boo. Him and Polterpup are the only ones that inhabit the mansion, and, with the house completely abandoned, it's probably going to stay that way.
In this world, ghosts only stay after some massive traumatic death. Problem is, Luigi has no recollection of how he died, he just knows he hit his head and a little while later awoke, a ghost that's unable to be seen, heard, and is completely alone as a newly-deceased. Aside from the yipping ghost dog at his feet (Luigi has always been afraid of both ghosts and dogs).
As a ghost, Luigi originally spawns (spawns?) into this world with little ghostly abilities. Living beings can't see or hear him and he doesn't have the power to manipulate objects or people in any way. He is essentially a specter, watching the lives of other people for years until, eventually, it's abandoned, and the Peasley family mansion (one of many, that is) is gambled away to King Boo.
But, King Boos already got his own slew of creepy haunted mansions, and, frankly, this one is haunted by a ghost he can't stand. A ghost that hasn't been able to speak to someone for around a decade. A chatty ghost that hasn't been able to speak to someone for over a decade. He's not exactly torn up about parting with it.
Bowser, the poor thing, is on attempt...
Attempt... 2 hundred... something.
(at least 4 proposals a year, for around 20 years... that's...)
Let's just say, Peach does and has not wanted Bowser for a long ass time, and it really doesn't help his self esteem that he's still being thwarted by a plumber that's old enough to be his dad and uses a cane. He really can't understand what Peach sees in him, especially considering she still looks like a youthful 20/30-something into her 60s. Frankly, it's unfair. He's got money, kids (some really awesome ones too), power, looks (he thinks so at least), and isn't 3 pudding cups away from dementia.
What he hasn't got, until right now at least, is an awesome mansion, specially built for human(oid) creatures. Maybe she just didn't like gothic castle architecture? Maybe, as Boo suggests, he just has to get her scared enough to fall into his arms for safety. He's got this all planned out.
Boo did not specify that the "ghostly inhabitants" of this mansion were a hyperactive ghost dog and naive plumber. He didn't think it was important information at the time.
So, when Bowser is plotting and practice-proposes (does he really need more practice?) to the striking blue eyes of a, surprisingly, human painting, the last thing he expects is to be met with a ghoulish grin.
Barely ghoulish, because, god, the thing is bright. The smile and the bio-(bio?)-luminescent energy it's attached to. For a ghost who's wearing bloodied bandages and has been dead for 30 lonely years, he's surprisingly optimistic.
"Really?! And you're not even a boo!" :D
He's very optimistic, in fact, because he's willing to believe that this complete stranger might just be his ticket out of this wall-papered purgatory. He died meeting up with his forbidden love, after all, so it must be a sign. He does not hesitate to shove that ring on his finger, even if his new fiance looks hesitant (he might be naive enough to go with it, but he's not blind). He's convinced the two will make it work.
Luigi is... very tired of looking at the same things everyday. Now, he can attach to his new fiance, who's only slightly hesitant to engage with him, (and is not bad looking at all, in Luigi's opinion). Together, the two can actually have a life together. Luigi was only 25 when he died, and he was far too shy then to do any adventuring. The most rebellious thing the man had ever done was sneak out.
Man, look where that ended him.
For Luigi, this is his opportunity to live the life he wasted was robbed of.
And the guys got kids! How awesome is that?
Bowser is not liking the new pets at his side. One never stops yipping and yapping and one is a dog. Luigi is... fine. From a distance. The problem is that they physically can't get any. As long as Luigi is attached to him, consider them hand cuffed. This stupid, green boo is crimping his style, and any game he had with Peach is virtually ruined when he's got his "fiance" clinging to his side like he's the best thing since breathing air.
At least Luigi appreciates his kids. The ghost obviously has some taste (of course he does, he chose him for pete's sake), and Junior and the rest seem to like the ghoul enough... Even if Junior isn't completely sure that Luigi is a ghoul. Both Luigi and Junior agree that boos are scary.
Maybe, after some hard self-reflection (with Luigi close and present, of course), and some growing emotional intimacy and openness, Bowser begins to kind of, perhaps tolerate Luigi. Just a little. Just enough to find his stupid quirks endearing and just enough to start to think that maybe he's always been too good for Peach, anyway. Maybe he should be with someone who appreciates him and loves his family. It's not like her and Mario had ever had kids in their relationship, and her not wanting kids is kind of a deal breaker.
Bowser's newfound attention on Luigi is driving everyone else nuts, though. Boos barely seen the man since his unfortunate run in with the green leach and no one else at their poker table is any good. At this rate, Boos not even satisfied winning Peasley's riches off him anymore. Occasionally, a guy just wants to lose, y'know? Boo hates only one thing more than Peasley whining about the consequences of his gambling addiction, and that's boredom. He misses when the Koopa King spent all his time plotting against the old-ass plumber. At least then he showed his face at their meetings.
And when Boo finally brings up his grievances, because he deserves to rant, Peasley seems... nervous. Boo loves nervousness.
"There's a... human boo... in the mansion I gave you..?"
"One, you didn't give it to me, you lost, fair and square. Two, yeah, and he's just about the chattiest thing I've ever met. All dressed up in a white suit, the pretentious-"
At that, Peasley turns about as pale as a ghost. Well, if that were possible, considering he's a legume. Suddenly, he's got some important things he has to do somewhere else.
This poker table is looking weak.
When Peasley asks Bowser to meet at the mansion, Bowser warns he can't come alone. It's a stretch to get the green ghost to go back with him, and as much as Bowser wants to tell him "you're coming with me, whether you like it or not", he can't bring himself to say it. Instead, he convinces Luigi that it's a quick stay. Essentially, a welfare visit on the old house and a quick meeting with an old friend. Luigi's narrowly convinced.
Stepping back onto that porch brings back a lot of old memories for the human. Few of them anything good in retrospect.
But he does want to see his painting again. He always did cherish that painting. He's sure Bowser will too, right?
Is that painting a good memory for Bowser? He wonders.
It was all those years ago that a young Peasley gifted him that painting. Like him, he had been optimistic and in love. Even if his rich, snobby parents weren't a fan of the human, they had an entire life ahead of them. Peasley had made him a beautiful painting. It was the one part of the house Luigi felt was his. A good memory.
He never expected to be greeted by the same image he had all those years ago. Peasley, now older, stood in front of the painting. His face now wasn't proud or love-struck or whatever expression he had had then (Luigi can barely remember Peasley's face until just now), he looked somber. It was a rare occasion that Luigi wasn't green, and his teal glow seemed to throw Bowser off.
And divert Peasley's attention away from the miserable painting and over to the ghost, who was nervously twiddling his thumbs with a sympathetic look in his eyes.
It's not long before Bowser realizes that this meeting was never about him, and he feels more awkward than anything else...
Except that Polterpup has been on edge since the moment he saw the bean (now) king. Has he ever seen the dog not wag it's tail at someone?
Immediately, the older man apologizes. Things were never meant to end up how they did. He tried his best to help when he could.
Luigi's not angry, how could he be? Luigi's fall was an accident.
Peasley says he didn't know Luigi had stuck around, and if he had, he thinks he would have done things differently. He would have at least had the place cleaned instead of just letting it rot.
(So Peasley abandon the mansion? The perfectly good mansion for no reason, leaving Luigi alone.)
And, of course, Peasley's sorry for not telling Mario or his parents about what happened to him.
(HUH?)
He insisted that he waited for hours with Luigi, hoping he'd recover with enough gauze. The man told him it was a lost cause. If he could have saved him, he would have.
Hours?
"I was unconscious for hours?"
It came out as barely a whisper.
"I stayed almost the entire night. As long as I could."
Bowser didn't know boos could turn so many colors, especially that quickly. Bowser didn't think Luigi even had it in him to be anything less than smiley, especially completely enraged.
Luigi had never been more angry in his life (death).
Even Peasley's insistence that "You don't understand what they'd have done to me if they'd known I went against their wishes!" fell on deaf ears.
When Luigi's aura finally finished raving, Peasley had backed away from the now red ghost. Again, Luigi recognized the position they were in;
One of them backing up, away from the painting and towards the basement stairs. How could Peasley forget that door never closed all the way? It had only been the exact thing that killed Luigi 30 years ago. The exact thing that, of course, Peasley hadn't fixed.
Luigi swears he didn't push him, even in that state. Bowser believes him, only because the still angry and unaware Luigi yelled angrily down the stairs: "You better not die here, because I'll make your death hell!"
If they both hadn't just watched Peasley fucking die, Bowser would have kinda been into it.
It took Luigi a second to realize that even if his own fall had been an unlucky hit, Peasley wasn't 25 anymore. And he wasn't responding. His red hue didn't last long, especially when Polterpup no longer seems threatened (and Bowser notices that the bean king no longer seems to be breathing).
"What did I do?"
Bowser suggests fleeing the crime scene, which normally isn't his move, but he'd rather not be tied to the murder of a fellow royal. Luigi shakes his head.
This is his fault. And as angry as he still is at Peasley, he can't flee what he's done. Not in a right conscience. Not like what Peasley did to him. Luigi suffered enough sitting in that mansion alone for 30 years, and, as much as revenge tastes sweet, a small part of him still cares. Had he lived, Peasley and him would have had a life after all.
But he hadn't lived, did he.
Bowser can't remember a time ever seeing Luigi's color look quite as dull as it did then.
Playing with his engagement ring, Luigi thinks back on the part of the man he loved. Peasley never did buy him the ring, like he had hoped. Luigi remembers getting himself all excited over the possibility of a scenic proposal as they walked through the flower garden of the mansion. He had gifted him a painting. Which was almost as good.
He couldn't even count how many times he had stood and looked at that painting, thinking:
Was it worth it?
An apprehensive smile comes onto his face. A nostalgic smile. A somber one.
Doesn't really matter, does it? He'd never know if it was worth it in the end. This was how it ended up. Luigi had always believed that fate is what had brought him and Peasley together, considering everything else had lined them up for failure. Fate was what brought him here. What kept him here.
Who is he to drag down others?
He returns Bowser's ring.
"I'm sorry."
Bowser never deserved to have him weigh him down.
"I wasted my life chasing after a family I never got, and then spent my death doing the exact same thing."
Bowser awkwardly matches Luigi's bitter laugh.
"I lived my life, be it a short one, but you deserve to live yours."
Luigi pats the ring on his hand.
"I hope she likes it." He smiles. He means it. Peach sounds wonderful.
Tears prick Bowser's eyes, and all because...
He never did tell Luigi about him and Peach, did he? He can't help but laugh. Tears streaming down his face kinda laugh. The laugh you only get once a year kind of laugh.
"You spent, what? Maybe five non-consecutive years chasing after a family? Try twenty!"
Luigi's eyebrow goes up. This is supposed to be a super emotional goodbye and this goobers laughing? On about his conquest to marry Peach (who, apparently, is already married) and make his picturesque life. Luigi can't help but laugh, because it's so stupid that Bowser's laughing about this right now.
"Her and her stupid, human, mustachioed husband Mario have been kicking my ass for decades. I promise you, boo, you weren't ever getting in the way of anything."
Mario?!
"Mario?" (!)
"You heard of him?"
The excitement in Luigi's eyes (and aura) is obvious.
"My brother's name is Mario!"
With a look of determination, Bowser promises he'll tell Luigi the story of all his and Mario's exploits if he does him two favors.
Leaves this, frankly, ugly and decrepit mansion with him. Because this story needs atmosphere.
Puts the ring back on his finger. Because how else is everybody going to know they're engaged?
Luigi gives a grin.
He looks down the stairs. What about doing his due-diligence?
"I promise you, boo, if fate brought you and Peasley together, and pushed you down those stairs, and brought us together, and then pushed him down the stairs, fate is on your side."
Luigi's lips are still pursed.
"And it's almost sunrise," Bowser points out.
"So?"
"Well, we've waited almost all night, seems like a fair amount of time to me. It's obviously a lost cause."
At that, Luigi begins laughing. Not quite Bowser's guttural, teary laugh, but certainly a cackle. Enough to turn his aura back to a vibrant green, just like before. Enough to make him hunch over and take some (not really) much needed gulps of air.
When the laughing dies down to a hurt giggle, Bowser assures him that:
"You didn't kill him, Weeg."
No. I guess he didn't, did he?
Looking down the stairs one last time, (his death completely bloodless, the lucky bastard), Luigi's brows furrow for a second and he twiddles his thumbs.
If Luigi's learned one thing from being a condemned ghost, it's that you should take every chance you get.
The bottom of the stairs don't look so intimidating now.
"I...
I forgive you."
Maybe that is all Peasley deserves.
Luigi deserves to have another chance. And maybe Peasley does too, maybe he'll find one in the next lucky winner of poker. Someones gotta replace his spot at the table.
Bowser shares that he certainly deserves a mother to his children, and he's already got a quality candidate who's proved he's got what it takes. ("One who cooks, cleans, can't call in sick, die, and is pretty good looking! I hit the jackpot!")
Maybe, at the very least, Luigi deserves to see his brother one last time.
And maybe a few more times after that, for good measure.
Anyways so the original plan was just to have either Luigi and Bowser straight up immediately abandon the crime scene (not really crime scene) or have Luigi sit in the mansion forever and live out a miserable existence.
But I couldn't do that to my boys now could I. (But Peasley still gets abandoned because screw Peasley I hate that little bean man /j).
This wasn't meant to turn out in the format it did but, y'know, it did. Just know this isn't brief but also isn't comprehensive. I might (big emphasis on might) make a shorter headcanon post on this, but we'll see.
I hope you enjoyed. And sorry for the length, I am not known and will never be known for being concise.
I'm kinda curious about your view on vil and your thoughts on the trauma he possibly or could have inflicted on Yuu during book 5.
I have this headcannon inspired by this one shot by uniquethingtastemaker
https://www.tumblr.com/uniquethingtastemaker/720073081338626048/neige-x-reader-white-beaches-and-a-spring-morning?source=share
The headcannon: Basically Yuu (who is female for this) hides the fact that she's a girl for safety reasons (I mean not only is Yuu magic less in another world, she's also in a all boy school. Yeah that doesn't scream good idea). The only who knows are the teachers, Crowley, Grim and later Ace and Deuce when she's comfortable enough to tell them. At some point before book 5, Yuu is allowed a small vacation out of NRC for the crap she had to deal with jamil in the previous book; during her vacation goes out as herself and runs into neige. They become friends and stay in touch with one another. Yuu made Neige promise not to say anything about her actually gender as a few know in NRC.
*Also have a headcannon where Yuu is a school idol like love live and secretly helps Neige and the dwarfs write a song and dance that works for them for VDC. Yuu and Neige were already writing a song together just for fun since Yuu missed being a school idol and hasn't written a song since coming to twisted wonderland 😅
Plus it's something she has a choice in and would fun doing with a friend. During book 5, Crowley literally forced Yuu's hand by threatening their plumbing and Vil just dub them the manager without asking if it was okay with them. There's also how forceful he was being. . . .
There's no rule that has she can't and she's not even in the group.
Sorry for rambling 😅
So I've written about my thoughts on Vil before and honestly he's kind of one of my - if not my most - least favourite character(s).
I've cut this up for length:
I know that he has a lot of trauma and that he's a character that lots of people can mischaracterize and hate irrationally but he just rubs me the wrong way - and I'm saying this as a former gifted child and as someone who has witnessed people go through burn out both in Primary and Secondary school. I feel sorry for him and I understand that the pressure of perfection can be an incredible burden to bear but the way he treats others is just so grating that I can't say I like him that much.
Honestly, Book 5 is my least favourite book (then it's 3 then 4) and I have so much to say for everything; the blackmail, Vil's behaviour, Vil cursing our food without telling us, having to share a dorm with Jamil when he used Yuu and endangered them for his own gain (and then Kalim for sweeping it under the rug), Vil almost making Deuce cry, the Neige hate, Vil facing absolutely no consequences for trying to murder someone and then nearly killing everyone and destroying a building.
Yes, I agree that Epel has a mindset of toxic masculinity and yes, it should be addressed and challenged. But Vil's military dictator training and forcing him to do things that he hates (and even making him hide his accent - something that connects him to the home and family he loves) is not how you do it. I don't despise feminine things like he does, but even I would hate to live up to Vil's standards every single day (especially when Vil degrades far more times than he praises).
Something I really really hate about the twst fandom is how lots of people put down Neige or make him the butt of a joke just to make Vil better. I've seen so many jokes or fanfics or imagines where Neige gets rejected or laughed at or treated terribly just so that Vil can be seen as superior and as someone who actually really likes Neige and has Snow White as their favourite princess ever since they were in reception, I just can't stand the Neige hate. Especially when he was almost a victim of a poisoning plot - as in Vil literally tried to kill him for absolutely no reason at all (before he then tried to kill us for 'seeing an ugly side of him' which we are supposed to forgive because of course we are)
I really loved that Neige story and I actually do headcanon that Neige and Yuu are really close friends and they text each other 24/7 (and also with Prince Rielle). I did make a #JusticeForYuu post where I said that I wanted Yuu to just send the entirety of NRC (minus Ace and Deuce) to coventry and not give them the time of day so I thought it would be just delicious if Neige is the one that helps Yuu with all things fashion related since he's just as famous (if not more so) than Vil with his own line of clothing and make up and would have access to things they would need.
And I think you somehow managed to read my mind because I have this Yuu that's a theatre kid (this is not relevant at all but this fem!Yuu was also Christine Daaé in her theatre's performance of Phantom of the Opera) with the voice of an angel that's best friends with Neige and the two of them totally duet together - I did kind of toy with the idea of Neige hyping her up to sing something for VDC as a closing performance and her blowing everyone away but I digress...
You know what? I am actually against the headcanon that RSA is filled with snooty, condescending, stuck up rich kids with a holier-than-thou attitude - I'm under the firm belief that the RSA students are actual sweethearts who are kind and caring and aren't the type of people who would inflict trauma on an innocent magicless teenager. The only reason why I don't want Yuu to transfer to RSA is because they'd have to leave Ace and Deuce behind (as well as the Ramshackle ghosts) and those boys are literally everything to me so I like to think that Yuu likes to go to RSA like once a week or something to spend time with people who don't try to manipulate or mistreat them.
I do have a lot more things to say but my brain has gone to mush and I can't think of anything so here
For some time now I've harbored the suspicion that Ao3 and fandom in general is pretty anti-abortion. Not in a conscious, malicious way - hell no. I think it is an unconscious thing, something that sneaks into a lot of fiction in a way that isn't actively harmful, but has an accumulative effect.
And i get it.
Fanfic and fandom are escapism. They are there to present happy stories and happy endings, big What-ifs and endless coffee-shop AUs. It is easy to imagine these worlds as perfect enough that no one needs to have an abortion because only people who want children only ever get pregnant.
And on an individual level that is absolutely fine. Nobody has to deal with topics that make them personally uncomfortable, or deal with delicate discussions such as this in their free time entertainment. It's just...
A world without abortion isn't a happy one for everyone. Partially because it is a human right that is being threatened all over the world by conservative governments who want to take away the bodily autonomy to have one. And since such is the state of the world, there should be a room in fiction to explore the implications of this. The horror of some government having this kind of control over your body, but also the fantasy of a support system that is there for you should the need for an abortion arise.
Why am I typing all this? Because I just got a lot of hate on one of my fics dealing with abortion. And I think it is a symptom of a larger problem.
Tumblr media
[ID: screenshot of an anon Ao3 comment saying: "Why do you worthless,brainless feminists try to tarnish this perfect stor y with your feminist baby murder propoganda? Why do you try to project your brainwashed,indoctrinated whore behaviour on characters as great as Edward and Winry? An abortion is NOT your decision. It is NOT your body and no amount of feminist screaming will change that. It is the fathers child too and your opinion is irrelevant. Abortion is murder, that's a fact. And no, I'm not religious. This entire story and your propoganda is utter TRASH. Rejected."]
Tumblr media
[ID: another screenshot, also from anon: "NOT her body,NOT her choice. Different human being altogether. Keep wishing. Men will fully stop this practice of infanticide." Posted: 2023-06-18 05:09:47 UTC]
Tumblr media
[ID: a third anon message that reads: Anonymous responded: "NOT her body,NOT her choice. That's a different, innocent human being altogether. And Ed is a strong,free man with a working brain. He's not your idea of "supportive husband" (aka spineless beta) who will support infanticide. This is not Edward and mlst definitely not Winry. She knows the value of life and exactly how hollow abortion arguments are. It is NOT a womans choice ever. NOBODY gets to decide to murder an innocent baby." Posted: 2023-06-18 05:08:24 UTC]
The fact that you should never send someone these kind of messages non-withstanding, this showcases a lack of respect and understanding that is simply baffling. There is so much hate in these comments. So much ire at women and people capable of having children in these words... it's frightening.
And I don't want to lock these stories behind moderated comments and limited access, because let me tell you something... these stories are for the people who need them most, the people who need positive and loving stories about making a hard choice and sticking with it. And often these people will only tell me about their own journey, their own struggle while on Anon themselves. And looking at the kind of response I've garnered... for a good reason.
Because it still isn't safe to openly talk about abortion.
Apparently not even on a website like ao3, which is generally assumed to be pretty liberal considering the general nature of online fandom.
Abortion is still seen as a taboo topic - in fiction and in real life. And this fear of openly discussing abortion makes people who visibly do vulnerable for attack. Be it authors like me who want to explore the bodily autonomy inherit in a fight for abortion, or the women and people who've had an abortion and are still frightened to talk about it.
If writing fiction dealing with abortion has taught me anything--- it's that people need and WANT these stories. Because no one else is writing them, but I really think some of us should.
The perfect world in which no one needs an abortion is useless, if people in the real world get hate mail for contemplating having one.
The next time your character has an unwanted pregnancy or is already surrounded by six kids or is very focused on wanting success and a career... think about why abortion isn't an option in your story.
Is it because it wouldn't make sense in your perfect fantasy? Is it because actually wanting kids is very inherent to this character? Or is it because deep down some part of you still thinks that having an abortion is some sort of sin?
It's no moral judgement I am making here - but you can only deal with an unconscious bias by examining it.
The Prank Theory: Or, Why Toby won't make an explicit announcement that Kris' pronouns are they/them despite that obviously being canon.
Disclaimer: people who use they/them for Kris are NOT the butt of the joke here. Although calling it a prank might be a little misleading to begin with, you'll see why.
I know for a fact, judging from my dashboard, that I am not alone in being mad at people misgendering the humans of Undertale and Deltarune (although, I will admit I used to be part of the problem up until quite recently). And we all wish for Toby to just go out and publicly announce that Kris, Frisk, and Chara use they/them only, that Mad Mew Mew is canonically transfem, etc., just to stop all the misgendering. It would certainly be nice and very helpful for the LGBTQ community. However, after giving it some thought, I've come to the conclusion that it most likely cannot happen, and the reason why is the Prank Theory. Treat it as an explanation, but not an excuse.
I came up with Prank Theory over something that's completely unrelated to the above, funnily enough. You see, I have this headcanon that Asriel Dreemurr is not cisgender. I'm not entirely sure what his gender is, but he's not cis male for sure. And I've seen a variety of different takes on this concept. For example, AUs like (Ask) Fallen Royalty by @starlightshore present Asriel as having transitioned in a more feminine direction ((A)FR specifically describes her gender as feminine nonbinary). Others still write Asriel (chiefly the Deltarune one) as transgender male (I've mostly seen that take in NSFW fanfics on AO3, which is a shame cuz it has great potential beyond that. Please tell me where I can find more). Other others still, like my beloved mutual @sukifoof, have proposed that Asriel might be agender. And, let me be clear about something: those are all great ideas, and I love them. But I started to wonder, which of these ideas is the closest to canon? Like, if we also factor in authorial intent, which of these options would fit under it, and which ones wouldn't? That was when I came up with Prank Theory, as a way to kind of imagine at least one aspect of said authorial intent.
Spoiler alert, according to Prank Theory any kind of transfeminine Asriel is incompatible with canon, but again I want to make it clear that that doesn't mean I think they're "wrong" or "bad" or anything like that, and I want to reiterate my endorsement of writing Asriel this way. Besides, my theory could be completely wrong, so...
So, after all that stuff, what does the Prank Theory actually say? Well, in summary: Undertale and Deltarune are some of the most "woke" video games ever made, but conservatives and reactionaries don't seem to have realized that yet, funnily enough. Now, calling it a prank is a wee bit misleading, since it implies that tricking right-wingers into loving a video game with a very progressive setting and message was at least part of what Toby intended. And I don't believe that's the case. He simply makes video games he wants to make, and they just happen to reflect his views on the world, and these views just happen to fly over the heads of some people.
This in and of itself would probably not make it a huge problem for Toby to put in one of his newsletters, or even in an X (as in, former Twitter) post, a correction regarding the genders of his characters. However it does start to become a problem when you factor in that the UTDR community has hundreds of thousands of people in it (although as of the March 2024 it might be a rather liberal estimate), and many of them would be quite pissed off if the video game they like had "suddenly" "gone woke" (ignorant of the fact that both it, and its main creator have been openly "woke" the whole time). And that is a problem in the current environment, because it means that Toby, as well as other people on the UTDR dev team, would be at a significant risk of hate and harassment, which in the Year of Our Lord 2024 could lead to Angel knows what.
On a more cynical capitalist (and much more speculative) level, attracting political controversy this way could sour Toby's relationship with big video game companies which have (as far as I know) played an important part in why Toby's got basically unlimited resources to work on the game of his fever dreams. They saw the widespread, universal acclaim that UT, DR1 and DR2 received, and drew the conclusion that DR3-4 (and the future chapters) will also get a similar reception, and they will get great returns no matter how much money they pour into it. This belief could be shaken if Toby attracted the ire of his transphobic fans by correcting their misgendering of his characters, and thus limiting the reach Chapters 3 and 4 would otherwise have (but again, this is pure speculation, I'm not an economist, nor do I know how much companies like Nintendo have actually invested in Deltarune. So I could be, like, way off).
And that is, in the end, why I believe Toby Fox will not make a statement regarding the canon gender of any UTDR character, at least not while Deltarune is still in development. After it's finished I think he might feel free enough to take that step. But we'll have to see.
Now, I don't know if I'm right. I feel pretty confident in my own theory, but there's a good chance I missed something. So, if I did, please lemme know. In the meantime, let's hope Toby will disprove my theory soon and set things right. And I'll see you around.
Sharing dorms with them + their confessions!
----------------------------------------------------------
Writer's notes: hey hey, I'm so sorry this took a while, I've been quite busy at school and I've been procrastinating, forgive me 😭😭 I know I meant to write for more female characters, but this one has more male characters since I had more ideas for them 💀💀- but do note that the school au might become a series and I might add more themes + write for more characters :P I also hope that everyone has been doing great and coping well out there! <3 I hope my fanfics could at least make your day better 😹😹
Fluff
School AU + confessions
Xiao, Venti, Hu Tao, Kazuha and Albedo - x reader (individually)
Tumblr media
Xiao!
Ok, living in the same dorm as this guy?? How is it like to live one of my dream 😹😹
When you first met him, the first thing that came to your mind was emo. I mean. I would too.
You guys never really talk but when you start getting closer to him, you’ll find out that he’s such a softie, a tsundere in fact!
I would shit tears if I saw him come out of the bathroom with his hair wet…… that shit must’ve been so breath-taking (STOP THIS WAS ME BACK IN FEBRUARY I WAS SUCH A SIMP FOR XIAO 💯💯)
XIAO IN A PONYTAIL XIAO IN A PONYTAIL XIAO IN A PONYTAIL
He cooks your meals sometimes
Generally a really cool person to share a dorm with, as long as you’re nice to him, he’ll eventually open up <3
Your roommate seemed to be a cold person. He was never seen hanging out around other people and he was mostly alone. When you found out you had to share dorms with him, you thought you would have a tough year. You were wrong. So wrong.
Xiao looked cold and aloof, but he’s honestly a really sweet guy once you get to know him. That one time when you woke up late for school, there was breakfast on the table made by Xiao. “You woke up late, again. My classes don’t start at this hour today so I thought I could make you a simple breakfast to have on the way.” He states, passing a sandwich wrapped neatly in a paper bag along with your favourite coffee. His hair was in a mess and his voice sounded different… It was like it was his morning voice… Wait. Did he just wake up? Was he worried that you overslept and made breakfast to save your ass? You were about to ask him when the door slammed on your face. You couldn’t help but to grin and laugh to yourself.
Xiao is also a really big tsundere. Like seriously. The other time you were out with another classmate and he saw you flirting with them and he obviously did not seem to be enjoying it. He was frowning and pouting throughout. When you got home though, that was when his true emotions started to show. He pulled you to the couch with him and started cuddling with you. “Xiao… are you… jealous?” you teased. He said nothing in return, face however, turning as red as a tomato.
“Y-you! Fine… whatever. Just stay like this for a while, Y/N. And… I love you."
Tumblr media
Venti!
HE’S MINE STAY AWAY. /j we can share him, Venti simps and enthusiasts are welcome here <3
He’s definitely a class clown. Or he got popular because of his musical talent.
HIS ROOM. HIS ROOM WOULD DEFINITELY BE MESSY.
“Oh hey y/n, ah ah ah, watch the lyre on the ground, don’t step on my precious baby!”
GAME NIGHT. GAME NIGHT.
PRANKS 24/7. IF YOU CAN’T HANDLE SPICE, DON’T BE SURPRISED WHEN YOU TASTE SPICY SEASONINGS IN YOUR INSTANT NOODLES
He’s the background music in your pair work. It’s not pair work anymore it’s just you on your own while he plays on his stupid little lyre.
“Oh? Contribute? To what? I’ve contributed enough by playing music! Now, focus, or we’re both failing! What? You won’t do it if I don’t join you? Fine, I'll do my part then!”
Going to 7-Eleven stores at 3 am at night is pretty normal with him. He either never sleeps, or sleeps like a pig.
He’s probably the worst roommate you could get. He scores full marks for entertainment but he’s basically useless when it comes to homework or helping around the dorm. He won’t help with the cooking or housework. >:( But he’s cute so you forgive him <3
Your roommate is an energetic person. He gets annoying every now and then, but he’s still a really nice person. He was well known in school for his musical talent and he often performs during special events. When you found out you were going to share  a dorm with him, you had mixed feelings. It was great that you were sharing with someone like him, but he seemed to have no concern about cleanliness or hygiene, whatsoever.
Venti often goofs around and doesn’t think much about the consequences. You thought he was funny though, no doubt. He’d often crack a silly joke that would make you laugh so much your stomach hurt. He’s sometimes a responsibility and you often have to nag at him before he helps out or does his homework. “Venti! This assignment is graded! Stop fooling around and complete it!” “What assignment was that again? H-Hey! Why are you taking off your slipper and holding it up like that- Ow! Wait, have mercy!” He’d often play on his lyre when you were relaxing. (At least he’s thoughtful..) He never cooks or helps out in the dorm. You have to do all the work for him. His room was a mess, clothes would be scattered everywhere on the floor, even his precious lyre would be on the ground.
Venti is also a prankster. You should not be surprised to find tons of fake spiders hiding in his drawer collecting dust. (He’s waiting for the chance to prank you <3) You knew he could be rather poetic and romantic, but you never expected him to be that foolish.
The clock displayed large numbers. 2:24 am. Why was Venti not back yet? You knew he went for a huge party that Childe invited everyone to but you didn’t go for it since you weren’t feeling too well. Suddenly the door slammed open with Venti stumbling in. “Heyy~ I’m baaack….” You gasped. Venti did not look well. How did he even manage to find his way back? “Were you out betting with Kaeya, again? Venti, I told you multiple times not to drink so much just to prove you’re better! Look at the state of yourself!” You said, pulling him to his bedroom.
“Y/N…” He said as you helped him onto his bed. You handed him a glass of water and helped him drink. “Thaank you~ Ugh, Y/N! You look especially blurry tonighttt…” He slurs as he grabs on your cheeks, pulling you closer to him. Your breathing hitched as you felt his warm breath against your skin. “Venti… Please… lie down…” You said, flustered. “Hey… Y/N? I… I love you so muchhh… please cuddle with me tonight…” He slurs on his words, pulling you together with him to lie on his bed. You were facing his sleepy face, only centimetres apart. Wait. Did he just confess to you? You got up and threw a pillow at him. “You dumbass! Confess to me when you’re not drunk! Go to sleep!” You stumbled out of his bed and you were about to leave the room when you felt his hand grip onto your wrist.
“Y/N… Please… at least sleep with me tonight…”
Tumblr media
Hu Tao!
She’s basically Venti, but better. I bet her room would be cleaner at least.
She’ll annoy you until you pay attention to her
Horror movies and horror games. She loves to see you getting frightened out of your guts as you grab onto her arm in fear.
Prankster. If you get scared easily, you’d be doomed.
She probably scores mostly D’s in class…
I like to headcanon that she’s actually pretty good at art. It’s just the art she produces is unique… and scary….
She would cook sometimes, and her cooking often looks suspicious and tastes odd, but you still consume it either way, because you’re such an amazing friend. (Spoilers, you'll be stuck in the toilet for the next couple of days)
She may goof around often but she’s always in your back on call and she’s really loyal.
Study sessions with her would turn into dumb conversations about your classmates and teachers.
Dark jokes or dumb ones that make you want to beat her up
HU TAO WITH HER HAIR DOWN??? SHE’S SO CUTE.
A really fun roommate to have, she’s loyal to you and she’s really nice. Treat her well.
Your roommate is a prankster, she enjoys watching your reactions. You’re often on your toes, unknowing of what she’d do next. She can be really sweet though, and she’s really adorable. Nonetheless, she’s one of the popular girls in school. When you found out you were going to share a dorm with you, you had mixed feelings. You were excited for sure, but at the same time you had your doubts, knowing what she’s like.
Hu Tao has an interesting style and sense of humour that usually sends shivers down your spine, but you can tell she’s trying her best to fit in while being herself. She often reads her poems to you and they leave some sort of impression on you, because her poems have… some sort of dark meaning behind them.
She does help around the house a little, not much. She doesn’t cook though. The reason is… very special for her case. Don’t be surprised if she serves you a plate of suspicious looking spaghetti with meatballs decorated to look like eyeballs… (which she has only served once because you fainted at the sight of those ‘meatballs’) She also enjoys pranking you tons, especially by jumpscaring you. You could just wake up to use the washroom and a freaky mask of some sophisticated monster would greet you right after you open the door.
Interestingly enough, though you knew Hu Tao was talented, you never realised how amazing her art is. Though they’re often a display of darker shades like black or mahogany red, her pieces often turn out really pretty. “Hey Y/N, could you grab me a couple of paint brushes from the art room today and pass them to me? Huh, me? Stealing? Who says? Is there a rule that says that students cannot borrow art supplies from the art room for their own personal use?”
You know that Hu Tao would often drag you onto the couch with her to watch really gory horror movies, but you never realise what her true plan was behind all of that. It was about 1 am in the morning when both of you were both huddled together on the couch, eyes glued onto the television. “Tao… this is scaring me…” “Come on Y/N! Just a little longer! This is the part!” You squeezed your eyes shut as you covered your ears and huddled closer to her. You could hear the muffled sounds of the television and Hu Tao’s giggles. You felt her warm hands suddenly grab onto both your wrists and pull them apart from your ears.
“Relax, Y/N. Scoot over if you’re scared, I’m here, you’re not alone. Thank you for watching this movie with me even though you obviously don’t enjoy this genre of movies. I appreciate it and.. Well uh, I know this is an awkward time to say, but I really love you, Y/N.”
Tumblr media
Kazuha!
THIS MAN. THIS MAN.
He’s probably one of the popular guys let’s be honest, he’s literally perfect
You were surprised to hear that out of everyone, he was sharing a dorm with you.
(let’s say you had a crush on him, because why else would you be reading this.)
KAZUHA WITH HIS HAIR DOWN KAZUHA WITH HIS HAIR DOWN
He would cook your meals like the malewife he is.
You loved his cookings, they were usually fish but they tasted amazing and his cooking technique for every meal would be different
Oh god imagine movie nights with him… and he’ll let you lean on his shoulder…. Awww….
Perfect roommate. He’s not messy, respects you, gentleman, sweet, good looking, cooks your meals and even studies with you
Your roommate is soft-hearted. He was good looking and well known in school. You admired him a lot. Many girls swoon over him and you felt as if you were out of his league and thus never tried communicating with him. When you found out that he was going to share dorms with you, obviously you were exhilarated. Your crush, sharing a dorm with you? You’d die for that opportunity!
Kazuha is a true gentleman. He cooks and helps around the house. He even studies with you and treats you nicely. He’s talented in Literature and you wouldn’t be surprised to hear his dulcet voice reading beautiful poems. He usually is the one that cooks your meals, and the dishes often had fish in it. You weren’t complaining though. You loved eating fish, and this was cooked by your crush after all. When studying with him, it always felt refreshing. His voice was calm and soothing, you always felt safe when you listened to him read out some of the notes. Bonus, you got to see his hair down. Which was something no one got to see, other than you. You loved that you got to see sides of Kazuha that nobody could. You felt special.
You know that Kazuha is a romantic person. You’d get jealous over the love letters and poems sent to him by a bunch of girls trying to catch his attention. He’d usually look through them in the living room, and you’d often roll your eyes over the stupid little poems those pink letters with tons of hearts contained. Kazuha was observant and picked that up almost immediately. He laughed lightly. “Y/N? What’s with that reaction? Jealous that you don’t get any love letters? Or upset that I’ve been getting too many love letters but you want my attention?” Your heart stopped. “Me? Oh, no well uh… I…” You just ran off to your room and slammed the door, hiding your face in your hands. Kazuha grinned, much to his amusement.
On the next day when you got back from school, you had the biggest surprise of your life. Kazuha wouldn’t be at the dorm as his classes started later than yours, which means he would be back in about three hours, much to your relief. You did not wish to see him after you’ve embarrassed yourself. You went to your room and shut the door. Slouching on your chair, you sighed. You got up to get food when you noticed a pretty red envelope on your desk. Beside it was your favourite flower and a maple leaf. You grabbed the envelope and took out the letter. You gasped at its contents, turning red.
As these maple leaves fall,
It reminds me of it all,
Gracefully, you entered my life.
And I fell in love at first sight,
But I stayed quiet until that night.
Thank you for opening my eyes.
Let’s soar high in the skies,
With our hands intertwined together.
Allow me to stay with you forever.
And I’ll love you until the end of time.
-Kazuha.
Tumblr media
Albedo!
Rounded glasses!
He’s probably hella quiet but once you get to know him, it’s pretty fun.
You’re probably his only friend because he practically talks to no one, and he doesn’t just have casual talk with stupid people. (you’re smart in his eyes <3)
3 am study sessions…. Because I said so.
Falling asleep on his lap as he studies is pretty normal
Y'all just eat instant noodles or McDonald's…
He probably never leaves his room, so you camp in there to disturb his busy ass
"Ah Y/N, I assume you have come to annoy me once again, haven't you? Well, don't be shy, make yourself at home. Just don't ruin my experiment, that'd be awful for me to clean up."
He tutors you. If you're terrible at science, like straight up terrible, he's gonna make sure you get on his level in a month or so. He's scary.
Can we talk about Albedo fanart real quick??
Anyways I think he'd be a good roommate. He's not the most entertaining person to be with but he definitely tries his best to make you laugh.
Your roommate is intelligent. He is soft spoken and often locks himself in the laboratory to work on his experiments. You admit, he’s good looking and that made him quite well known in school. There were often people crowding outside the laboratory, eyes glued on him in awe as he worked on his experiments. When you found out that you were sharing a dorm with him, you didn’t really have much of a reaction, you just thought that you two wouldn’t communicate with each other at all.
You were half correct about that. At first, Albedo never leaves his room, you were worried for his sake and you often ordered food for him and placed the meal on his desk whenever it was mealtime. Until one morning, he was the one that came into your room with food in his hands. “Oh, Y/N, I prepared some food for you. I know it’s not the best, but I just wanted to repay you for helping me order all those meals. If it weren’t for you, I’d probably be starving until midnight daily.” You glanced at the plate of scrambled eggs with a side of bacon paired along with a scrumptious sandwich. “T-This is for… m-me? I wasn’t expecting this at all… Thank you, Albedo, I really appreciate it.” You smiled as you took the plate in your hands. You were surprised to hear the next thing he said; “I know I don’t ever hang out with others, but you’re always welcome to study with me, just come into my room as you’d like. Also, I would love to get to know you more.” he comments, closing the door gently, leaving you alone to your own thoughts. Albedo? Wanting to be friends? You were punching the air in joy. You just won the attention of someone everyone wants to be close with.
After that day, you’d often barge into his room without consent, lie on his bed and watch him study. He’d often roll his eyes as you do that but he smiles sweetly, he seems to always enjoy your presence whenever you enthusiastically share about your day to him. He would also allow you to lay on his lap whenever he was studying. You also became the only person who could enter the laboratory when he’s occupying it. Of course, many rumours spread that Albedo has a secret lover, and many people were jealous of your friendship with Albedo, but you never took it to heart.
You were laying on Albedo’s lap (as per usual) and you were rambling on about your day and how tired you were. He smiles and laughs lightly, “Y/N? Tired? Sounds like an unusual match, you’re usually very energetic.” You pout at his statement. “Hmph! If you say so, I’ll sleep then! Good night!” You say, eyes fluttering shut. You were dozing off as you heard a muffled giggle and you felt a hand running through your hair.
"Well, it’s been quite a while I’ve been wanting to say this, but I wouldn’t dare to. I love you Y/N. My feelings were there even before we shared dorms and I have always had the urge to talk to you, but I didn’t know how. Are you truly asleep? I wonder. Sweet dreams, Y/N.”
Ahhh okay!!! That took so long to edit and write istg. I'm so sorry once again for my procrastination and slow drive to complete my fanfics 😹😹
Chiaki to me is kind of an odd character in that I think she actually has good potential, especially in possible interactions with Nagito (seriously, Komanami is probably the ONLY really great Chiaki ship in my eyes). I've seen some great fanfics that play around with her. Especially ones that explore a Despair!Chiaki. But canon just...doesn't really do a great job with her.
In fact I actually find her role kind of detrimental, in that it almost vindicates elements of Nagito's worldview. With her being an angelic embodiment of hope. Which is just...not a very healthy way to present a character in my eyes.
To go back to that stuff about Despair!Chiaki, a really neat interaction that a writer friend is considering implementing into an AU is her and Nagito talking after being rehabilitated. And her admitting that the embodiment of hope he was desperate for was something she could never be. Chiaki says something like "I guess...I'm sorry I could only ever be a girl, Nagito.". To which he responds "...And I'm sorry that wasn't enough for me."
hmm, If I'm very honest I don't ship any mlw ships with Nagito lol! It's mostly because I think the idea of Junko finding a gay man who's lonely, terminally ill, traumatized, and desperate for someone to love him, then exploiting and warping his affection, one of the only things that remains healthy about him, warping it to where he can't understand his own sexuality anymore is pretty brutal. Nagito loving despair is something he can accept, but loving Junko is so fundamentally mind boggling that he goes spiraling when he thinks about it. The idea of Junko convincing a gay man he loves her and robbing an important part of himself from him is super interesting. Also just him never really showing any interest in a woman but showing interest in hajime and Izuru gives that impression. But don't let me discourage you that's just my opinion! His sexuality is not confirmed in any way and that is my interpretation. Just wanted to touch upon that to give insight on what I think just in case it makes me sound too biased at any point in this discussion.
I think making Chiaki real and using her again plot wise to use the same strong suit of her character, empathy, can be seen as a little clumsy. Although I do thoroughly enjoy the fact that Hajime heard her advice but only truly understood it in Danganronpa 2 after she was gone. It's really tragic and I enjoy that Ai Chiaki and Real life Chiaki are indeed different. It's a little indecent but I enjoy the story of the franchise overall.
If I'm honest I think a lot of things about hope's peak in general are detrimental to Nagito because his world view is specifically influenced by Hope's peak. Nagito believes Chiaki is an "embodiment of hope" for the class and likes her status and impact on everyone. Junko sees her the same way and wants to crush that so called hope to create despair for the class! I think that all makes sense and is decently done considering the characters and world. It's important to remember hope is practically absolute good, and Chiaki was just an absolutely good person to the class and when that's lost it creates despair. Even those who she wasn't really That close with, like Nagito, respected her and her impact a lot! Enough to be devastated and have the brainwashing work more.
Chiaki serves a purpose and I think criticism with the fact that she mostly is there to be the support role and impact for everyone else is absolutely valid. My only personal criticism is I'd like to have seen the different ways the class cared for Chiaki, basically just how close each person individually was with her. I'd like to have seen more of their hangouts to know that, but I understand it's an anime recapping a story with limited time. They spend episodes expressing how much they all cared but not how personally close they were, so the fact all of them cared so much isn't entirely sold for a lot of people including me at first. You kind of have to infer a lot which is a little sad? It's for a lack of words a missed opportunity I think.
Fanfics do a really good job at showing those things the anime misses about real life Chiaki, and honestly overall I'd say Chiaki is most often well characterized in fanfics! I think a despair Chiaki is an interesting idea too like you said, you'd have to explain how they became despairs without her though. But fanfics are all about being creative and it's an au in the first place so I'm sure people can figure it out and have fun! All of it is interesting fun ideas and I'm glad you and your writer friend are having fun and enjoy the ship.
I do think the dialogue they've come up with is pretty interesting and a cool approach to an au like that. "...And I'm sorry that wasn't enough for me," feels a little odd for him to say to me at least? I mean, I definitely don't know the direction or the entirety of the work that led to that interaction though of course, and I think it's definitely interesting dialogue, but for Nagito to say that feels a little off for me personally. Like, I think after rehabilitation supposedly it would go something like the Dangan Islands where he learns Hope was inside him all along through spending time with Hajime.
"You provoked the hope that was already inside all of our hearts Chiaki, and for that I am grateful. We all fell to despair, but the hope always wins, Right?" or something like that feels better to me personally but I'm just being silly and don't know the full context anyway
Thank you for your ask, please let me know if I misinterpreted anything you said and didn't respond accordingly, It was nice reading somebody else's take on things and trying to respond with mine as respectfully as I could <3
I have a theory about the reason people(myself included) want to make Reader not entirely human or better/stronger/different than human, can be:
a)we don't like being us, humans.
b)you know those animes where the mc is the most bland, boring, average character, but turns out to be extremely powerful, or gets an extremely strong abylities(by accident, coincidence, chosen one, their loved one is gonna die, etc), gets the attention of all the powerful gorgeus people around them(more often than not because the mc has an ability they are interested in).
And we kinda internalized that being just a human can't be all. There must be something more. A human can't be just a human.
But that's just a theory, a reader theory. Goodnight.
(This got longer than I wanted it to be KEKW- But I can't help it, I talk a lot if it's something I have personal experience with.)
Oh yea no, the those reasons why peeps wanna avoid being human has been clear to me for years. There's way more reasons than that, of which most come down to personal preference. I've glanced at and avoided enough fics since at least 2017 where the Reader is some form of hybrid, god or something that isn't human or isn't unspecified. Just because my own personal preference lies more with reading about a Reader who is actually a regular human on earth, just trying to get by daily in life.
Thing is that if you read a fanfic where the Reader has literally no other description other than "normal mortal human", then there's nothing more to it. Visuals are up to the person behind the screen, besides the fact that the character is a regular human. It's always lowkey painful for me personally seeing peeps try to for example slap wings onto themselves, and pretend like they didn't just read they're supposed to be human. While it's fine if they wanna fantasize about it and ignore any balancing or realism rules privately, the AU is already imbalanced af enough in canon when certain aspects come into play.
The "what if" questions about the Reader being anything other than a human with no magical or racial bonus abilities are immediately seen as nothing more than hypotheticals that I personally would rather like to avoid talking about. My response to them all would just be "No". Because honestly, unless I can see something as an actual possibility in my works and it's actually logcial, like the idea of a Reader being a cannibal as well as, I'd rather keep hypotheticals away and not treat them as if they were possible in canon. Which is why I just straight up am all like "No" at those instead of responding with my own headcanons.
I'm just not comfortable with people trying to force changes on pre-established parts/rule sets in the world building. That's also part of why the Judge is in control of basically the board and its rules, making sure they're being upheld and kept as much in balance as possible. Eight powerful servants is already way more than the AU was supposed to have initially.
However, I am open about the idea of different upbringings of the Reader and how they became the Master and all that, because that is literally part of the philosophy seen in the AU. The idea that all humans are different in the way they act, live, see the world, and interpret things based on their own experiences. You don't have to suddenly be turned into something you are not, but wish to be seen as by others to get along with the people around you, or even be a leader to them. In this case the champions. That's why I usually respond to people talking about either personal experiences they've made themselves, or if it's about a very much possible scenario for a person to be in, or if it's about some condition or disability.
The champions are moreso seen as an extension of such a scenario. They don't just fall heads over heels for the Reader overnight either, as they can also just remain forever platonic. The experience made to get to anything more than that relies on the Master's actions, behavior, etc. with each individual champion. Which is why my responses feel repetetive regarding the reactions of the champions. I can't go into detail on those general reactions as everyone's relationship and expeiences with them would be different.
The AU isn't based around just one Reader, but a collective. If one is non-human, everyone would need to be non-human, more specifically the same species, due to the borrowed soul being that of a human. The only thing that's the same for all the Masters is just the human soul, since that's the thing that lets them find the Reader in the AU and feel connected to them. The soul of the Reader is already powerful enough in that regard, even if it's just mainly for the connection and acting like a tracker for both the champions and the Judge. (Unless an oopsie happens and the Reader accidentally ends up turning into something like an insect the others have a harder time finding as the soul wouldn't be noticeable enough, of course. But it's a rare moment.)
The Reader's soul in my previous works in Undertale actually worked similarly, but was altered a bit in ESAU for the experiment being held in the AU.
It was the Director's cut!
I have no idea how I would cut twenty minutes out of that movie. Presumably I've seen the theatrical release at some point, but it was so long ago, that I can't even remember what they cut, and the last time I watched this I watched the Director's cut.
Anyway, it's a great movie and watching it again only solidified that for me. It's funny to me that people talk about having seen it in music class, as...it is so historically inaccurate. It's, okay, here's a good analogy. Amadeus is to history as my fanfic is to Sailor Moon. It's more about "what could we do with the the idea of this?" more than anything that actually happened. Salieri was a married man. Mozart was not put into a mass grave. I would not show this to anyone to learn literally any historical fact.
BUT, what I do love about it, is it's a story about jealousy, and what's so striking about that jealousy is Salieri has INCREDIBLE success in his lifetime. This would be like me being...I don't know, John Grisham. And I am very financially secure off my writing, and people go, 'Oh yeah! John Grisham, i like him" but I see someone who is a genius, who is such a good writer that I can feel the way they are built naturally for the things I have worked so hard for. She's not enjoying wild success, has tons of debts, etc. I have nothing to fear except the fact that I KNOW it's some of the most incredible writing in the world, and I will never ever be that. And it makes me so angry that I take on a war with God, with said writer as the pawn. Ignoring everything I have, every accolade I should be happy with, because I unfortunately am talented enough to see true genius and it consumes me.
Is that not an incredible topic for a story? The idea that only being touched by God in that way would ever be enough. He recognizes his own comfortable mediocrity, and it consumes him. What is it like to be the also-ran, Amadeus asks of us.
ANYHOW WOW YOU ASKED NONE OF THIS, but, great film.
The Junk I Write
I'm an author who wears many hats, I'd say. I've got four books, two of which are very SPN-like, since they star a vampire who eventually works her way up to becoming the goddess of hell (it's complicated), one of which is a fairly conventional superhero story starring a bunch of queer communists, and a medieval fantasy book about people who turn into weapons and kill shit. And that's just my *finished* works.
In the drafts are sequels to all three of those series, a magic school thing I'm working out, a body-horror book about a girl turning into a monster like The Thing and using that power to murder the ones who did that to her, a spy thriller which (no joke) was inspired by Game of Thrones, something I call a "mecha western" which I think describes it better than I could put into words here, and more fanfiction than I know what to do with. And, like always, ideas keep coming to me. (I have ADHD)
So here's the thing: Basically anything I write is derivative in some way. Basically anything ANYONE writes is derivative in some way. If you read my books, and you've also enjoyed the same kinds of media that I have, it won't be hard to pick up their scent. Several major characters in my works got their start in trashy fanfiction which sits on my Google drive and only a handful of people get to actually read. That doesn't mean my novels are based on those fanfictions, and in fact, they have very little to do with the source material other than surface similarities. My novels are original, whether you believe it or not.
Take, for instance, the newest thing I've been writing, which I shall here codename "Greek Gods Thingy." GGT is not a book about actual Greek gods, but about a pantheon I made up based on some archetypes. There's a god of the sky, of the sea, of war, all that good stuff, but they're not the same as their equivalents in any particular real-world pantheon. And, no, this is not the part that's related to my fanfiction.
GGT's protagonist, a young lesbian called Ember, is chosen by one of the gods to do his bidding, and that's basically the plot, whatever. I actually tried to write this thing like a year ago, but I couldn't really pull it together. It felt off, I wasn't vibing with the characters, and in general I was doing kind of a crappy job, only ended up writing like 3500 words. And then, recently, I got the idea to cut and paste a character from one of my fanfictions onto Ember. I'm not gonna say what series it was a fanfic of, but it will be pretty obvious if you've seen the show and pay attention to Ember's mother in particular.
But here's the thing: The more I write it, the less copied it is. It's a completely different setting, different plot, different everything, just with the main character starting from a similar place in her life. I don't know if this applies to anyone else, but when I make an OC for a fanfic, I'm not doing it to self-insert or whatever, I'm crafting a person I love, who I love writing about. And then, what almost always happens is that I say, "Sucks that this character is stuck in a world I don't have ownership of," and then I end up making my own shit for them. That's basically what my medieval book was, too.
That doesn't mean the original work is a copy of the fanfic. If anything, it's freeing great characters, allowing them to spread their wings and prove their right to exist in something real. That's what Ember's done. And genuinely, I can't wait for this book (or any of the rest of them) to be out, so I can share my love for these babies with the world, and hopefully you all love them too. And, frankly...the idea of """real""" authors being judgmental of fanfiction is absurd to me. Fanfic makes writing better, it expands a person's voice and in many cases gets them into writing way before they have enough confidence to try publishing a novel.
Yes. Write that garbage fic of yours. Polish it, sweat over it, let it keep you up at night because you want it to be perfect. It might show you that you have it in you to write something your own. Or, maybe not. That's fine too. Either way, flexing your creativity is always a good thing.
Unless you're a nazi or some shit.
Hi, I'd like too write something for you. I've seen a couple times people writing, telling you that your blog is kina stupid and has no purpose since you do not actually do any precise descriptions of reader that would indicate that they are in fact plus size. And as a plus size myself that accusation is just not making any sense. Not for me for sure.
I'll explain why, and it's not just for you but for those people too. Maybe they'll relate.
The deal is that since struggling with weight and people, their opinions and the overall society's image of a beauty standard my brain developed a wrong habit. (And i know I'm guilty of it but i countie to do it, i just can't help myself). When i read fanfic/imagine, any, even if there aren't any particular description of the reader i still imagine myself as a slim one. Not to mention, that authors and other readers may not notice (not their fault just happens) there's still be smth that is like "yep definitely y/n is slim here"
And your blog and your writing is exactly what I need. The mere mention in hashtags or in fanfic's description that the reader is plus size is absolutely enough. That's all i need. With no body descriptions, since this also may omite some plus sizes. I mean we're all different. Smn has bigger tummy or bigger hips, whatever. And they may not feel included if you write that y/n has a bit smaller tummy, for example.
So your blog is amazing. I just read #plus size reader and boom my brain doesn't try to alter the image of me. I'm plus size in my mind as I'm in body, still, not trying to fool myself. And that's great! That's what i need! It's like an acceptance therapy.
So all in all i want to say that you, your blog and your writing, all of it is amazing!
Please continue what you do, i wish you lots of inspiration, and happy moments in life. And want to say a big Thank You 💗
You're doing absolutely great, don't let ever anyone prove you otherwise!
All the best ✨
My love, Thank you for this.
I just started the new semester and just logged on to try and get some inspiration to turn my brain off for a while and came across this message in my inbox. You have no idea how much I appreciate it. It can be hard to not beat myself up sometimes, especially putting myself out there as I do here. Just to know that you, and so many other of my darlings, appreciate it makes this little hobby of mine 100% worth it.
I want to write a fanfic but I’m scared people will either judge my writing skills or what the fic is about, do you have any advice for people who struggle to post their fic?
My first and foremost advice for fic has always been write for you. Write the things you want, how you want, and when you want. Nobody else gets to dictate those choices but you. It's true there's been a rising tide of entitlement in fandoms recently, and I can understand being hesitant about posting fic for the first time because of that. However there is so much joy to be had writing fanfic. So many of the people I hold dear are friends and fellow writers I've met through fanfic. No matter what you write or how you write it, there is a place for you.
I posted my first fic back in...2012? Christ... and was very nervous. Gonna be honest, my writing then was not great! But that's hobbies in general. People aren't born with the inherent ability to write perfectly, it's a skill that's honed over time. I myself am still improving and finding news and better ways to tell stories. Part of that is resigning myself to the fact that sometimes I have to write badly to be better. However it could be you have a natural born talent and your potential readers have been waiting to see it!
You may not get much of a response first from folks, that's to be expected. However that's all the more reason why you should be focusing on things that are fulfilling for yourself and not others. I've seen folks fandom chase and trope chase on here and I see how burnt out they get in pursuit of interaction. It's a losing game, and I hope you don't fall prey to it.
In addition, remember to tag. I've had and seen plenty of cases where someone reads a fic with something they don't like and then complains despite the fact it was tagged. If someone does this to you, and I cannot emphasize enough, it is not your problem. It's like someone hating coconut and then seeing a coconut flavored dessert and going 'Wow, this looks delicious- why is there coconut in this?!' It is their responsibility for curating their experience. Not yours. Delete/block/ignore them and move on.
and to those reading this who are readers and not writers- be kind to beginning writers. Do not offer them (or ANYONE) unsolicited feedback. No 'concrit' unless SPECIFICALLY ASKED FOR. I've heard people say 'Oh I stay away from the 'my first fic' tag'. Consider giving those writers a chance. Leave a lovely comment. You have no idea how encouraging that can be for someone new to fanfic. By doing so you are cultivating a community, a place for all of us.
and anon, honey? You're doing great. I'm proud of you. Let us know how it goes.
⭐Your Turn Sunday ⭐
Can I suggest An Ordinary Life by Lamport?
"She’s a wild thing, and Daryl’s always appreciated and respected wild things."
This is a beautiful and bittersweet Caryl one-shot with a heavy dose of Lydia. It takes place not long after the massacre at the end of S9. All three characters are living under Michonne's roof and are trying to adapt to life in Alexandria.
I grew attached to Daryl as a character when I realized he's a trier - someone who'd do anything to keep the people he cares about safe and well. S10 Daryl is the ultimate trier: he's incredibly patient, understanding, and emotionally intelligent. He's the "man of honor" personified in this fic and he's trying *so hard* to make things work. But he's not perfect and his job is made all the more difficult by the fact that both Carol and Lydia are so deeply traumatized.
For me, it's one of the best depictions of the Caryl + Lydia dynamic - every detail and every beat feels true to who they are. And I really love how Lydia is still pretty feral in this fic (I wish she'd retained more of that wildness in the show).
All in all, it's a stellar one-shot. I highly recommend it if you haven't read it already. And even if you have read it, go give it another read!
Thank you for letting me take up space in your inbox! And a big thank you for starting this fic project 💖
First of all, dear notalkingbusiness, you have no idea how happy you made me by sending this rec. It was the first thing I checked when I reached for my phone this morning. I was afraid no one would send a recommendation to kick-start the #your turn sunday tag. So thank you so much for participating, it means the world!
Secondly, WOW! Just wow! An Ordinary Life by @lamportb [ AO3 | 9Lives] is a beautiful, heartwarming and, yet, heartbreaking fic. It was a new story to me - and I don't think I've read anything written by Lamport before, so thanks for presenting me to a new caryl writer - and it's just so quiet, soft and real. I've felt almost like an intruder on Daryl's thoughts and feelings because he felt SO REAL. The way he tries (and you're so right, S10 Daryl's definitely the ultimate trier) and struggles to take care of Lydia and Carol to the very last line of the fic is so palpable that one cannot help but hope he succeeds even in the face of so many pain and grief. It's really, really beautifully written.
Summary: Daryl doesn’t have a hot clue about raising kids. He’s seen Michonne with Jude and RJ, even Aaron with Gracie, but Lydia isn’t really a kid, she’s seventeen, and he sure as shit knows nothing about being a dad to a teenage girl. Rating: T/ Teen Up and Audiences Word count: 2054 Published: November 11, 2019
What an incredible way to end our first week of caryl fics recs! I'm so happy right now, dear fellow caryler, that this little project is working out. I've already selected enough fics to recommend for another two months, but, again, this project is for all of us! So, please, if you want to recommend a fanfic to our tumblr community, just send me an ask or DM and I'll help you to share the love (you don't have to identify yourself, it can be an anonymous rec if makes you more comfortable). Thank you all so much for the support so far. And, again, thanks nottalkingbusiness for the incredible rec. Caryl on!
The post about Sirius wasn't saying that fanfic!Sirius is bad, but that fanon!Sirius was, which is an entirely different thing. All the fics you mentioned do a great job at delving into his character more, and they're a wonderful continuation of canon Sirius. The post was aimed at the fics (and their writers) who disregard canon Sirius completely, making him essentially a different person simply because they want him to fit their idea of him. Compared to other side characters, we have quite a bit of info about him in canon, but it's obviously not enough, which is why we need and love fanfictions. The post isn't targeting those fics (in fact, some of the people who commented are actually fic authors themselves and have written Sirius wonderfully). So really, there isn't truth to both sides: fanon Sirius is the Sirius that has been popularised by Tiktok in the last couple of years and I've seen it with my own eyes... Their 'take' on Sirius is just plain wrong. You can tell they didn't read a single page of canon because they're talking about a whole different person. That's fanon Sirius, plain and simple. Fanfic Sirius, the one written by the many wonderful authors in the Jily community like you, for example, is honestly better than canon itself, but it's still faithful to it's origins, it's a Sirius we can recognise. Maybe the post didn't do a great job of explaining who it was aimed at, but I think you're on the same boat as everyone else ❤️
Thank you so much for this ask, I think I understand what you mean but I also don’t know who fanon!Sirius is?? Like what are we talking about? I do understand that everyone is entitled to write him exactly as they please, but also that everyone is entitled to an opinion about what versions they prefer. That makes perfect sense.
But.
Who is “fanon!Sirius”?
I’m not on TikTok (being ancient etc 🙄🤣) so I genuinely don’t know what everyone is talking about?
Tumblr mutuals - Give us some data on this Sirius - I’m fascinated to hear (and make up my own mind!)
I reblogged this ask meme then passed out immediately. Whoops! Anyway, you had the misfortune to send me this just as I finished my entire series. I'm about to hit you with literally every thought I've ever had.
EncantoTV: A Retrospective
My goal in Encanto fanfic is always, as best I can, to re-create the tone and style of the original movie. I called the series "Encanto TV Episodes From Another Timeline" because that's the level of canon compliance I wanted, not just from the plot but also from everything else, with the tone and the humour and the themes and the characters we focus on - I wanted to write something that felt like Disney had greenlit it.
(It's entirely PG except this part, which I removed briefly in early 2022 and then remorsefully put back because I literally couldn't replace the line "de-bitched their grandmother".)
Tumblr media
Fun fact: I literally did not care for Camilo one iota the first time I watched Encanto. I don't mean I didn't like him; I mean I straight-up forgot one of the characters could shapeshift a couple of different times during the movie and had to google who the hell he was afterwards.
I put Camilo in When the Cat's Away because I thought he would be a funny narrator to a story that was primarily about Mirabel and Bruno, and then by necessity of being the narrator he got his own character arc, and that character arc spiralled into being the main emotional hook of the fic. Whoops.
The character who did get plenty of screentime from me, though: Bruno!
Here's the thing about fanfiction. Most people watched Encanto (2021), a Family-Adventure-Comedy, saw Bruno, thought he was hot, and then proceeded to write fiction about him that was also hot, such as porn, angst, porn/angst, and the great many variations of those things that exist on AO3. I watched that movie and went: "Great! I want more of this attractive, compelling character. He is a side character used primarily for comic relief, with a tragic backstory that is only ever minimally explored. Therefore, that is exclusively what I am going to write."
Hence: Bruno only appears as a major supporting character, and his main roles are to act as foil to Mirabel and comic relief, much the way he does in the original movie. I don't know what it is about that that I enjoy writing when, as far as I can tell, every other Bruno stan on the internet went down the logical route of writing fic that was about... well, him. Maybe a bit of narrative irrelevancy is just something I find attractive in a man?
Whatever about Camilo and Bruno, though. I thought Mirabel was a great character when I first watched Encanto, and now, having written 100,461 (fuck!) words about her, my feelings have only deepened. Mirabel, my daughter, life of my life!!! I adore you!!!
Seriously: I love this girl. I wound up spiralling into a whole series because there's just not enough I could say about her. I love the way the world feels when you're at a certain point in your teens, and you're smart and empathetic enough to understand the injustices of it, and you've got this whole life ahead of you to fix them and all these things to do around you and suddenly, for the briefest period of time, you have nothing but big ideas and burning passion to see them through. I wanted to capture that type of kid, somebody who's clearly very passionate and brilliant and inspired, despite the crushing lonliness and insecurity that sometimes comes with being fifteen.
Mirabel and Bruno's relationship is very dear to me. Mirabel is a teen who's pushing away her parents and the other adults in her life, feeling misunderstood. Bruno knows how to interact with the teens in a way that makes them feel treated and seen as adults, that validates their adult feelings and actions, while never actually crossing the boundary into being a friend. Bruno is a mentor, good at showing vulnerability when he needs to get through to someone and holding it back when they need strength instead. Mirabel desperately wants someone who makes her feel seen, and she needs an adult in her life she can trust. They go together like that.
The thing I'm proudest of about EncantoTV, though, is the plots. Because deciding that something is meant to be a cartoon TV episode, not a movie, not a novel, is just... a different type of story. TV plots can be bad. There are holes, there are wildly unrealistic natural disasters and uses of weapons, people run on and off the screen, and the whole thing needs to get wrapped up in a way that you can theoretically miss this episode and it still makes sense.
My finest achievement? I have gotten SO good at writing plots that are STUPID AS ALL FUCK. I'll write fucking anything in there. I put a ghost in the Encanto. I destroyed a whole fucking mountain then NEVER referenced it again. I brought back Bubo. Antonio went to JAIL. The places the characters go in Birds of Paradise? That shit makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER when you look at the timeline, because they could only have been walking for a few hours AT BEST but they still hike an entire watershed AND drive the same distance within AT MOST a couple of hours.
And you know what? AIN'T NOBODY IN THE COMMENTS TELLING ME IT WAS STUPID, CAUSE THEY CHECKED OUT BEFORE THEY GOT THAT FAR. Belissimo.
Anyway, it's 4am, and I'm definitely rambling. Here's my last point, which is about having readers!!!
My webcomic used to get a comment every 2-3 months. My fiction has been rejected from a couple of litmags. Something that has been mind-blowing, life-changing, awe-inspiring? Readers! People who read what I wrote and they liked it, and not only that they told me they liked it!!! I have written lots and lots of things, and I have never, in my life, had people go out of their way to contact me and tell me what they enjoyed and why, the way that people have done for these fics, and it's... damn!!! It's world-ending!!!
This was a long-ass post, I guess being my goodbye to the series... I want to thank you, @youmaycallmeyourhighness, for sending it, and for the various comments and messages, that shit means the WORLD to me. I am a humble college student, my grades are bad, and it is surreal that my writing is something that interests you.
To @bitchykuromi, @malewifebruno, @pinwheelwhirl, @greenvillainredemption, @originalavenuefox, @ramblesanddragons, and several others who either aren't on tumblr or I just can't find rn because it's 4am: I hope you all know how much it means to me that you liked my fics enough to read them over all this time, and find the time to tell me about it, and you are all such cool people it brings me such delight to think that I actually might have made you laugh irl.
THANK YOU WORLD FOR THE EXPERIENCE OF MAKING ENCANTOTV: IT'S BEEN REAL. Goodnight!!!!!
