If someone were to visit you, and it were not, say, a last minute decision (I'm so sorry,) what would be an appropriate hostess gift? I'm thinking of Shabbat specifically, but would it be different depending on the meal/occasion? (I'm assuming so)
ahahahah I was in no way mad at you, ever! If anything I was annoyed that I really couldn't show you that I am capable of being a good hostess if I have like, a week's notice.
You asked about me, so I am answering about me, this is not about a general suggestion of hostess gifts.
I do always love things for the shabbat table! Particularly really lovely serving utensils, are something I don't have a lot of yet. I accumulate things, over the years, it's the way I afford it. I like things that are a little fun and unusual but still work for my table. I've had my eye on a horseshoe trivet for awhile, that's a fun thing!
Someone once brought me a really nice cheese board, that was a really nice gift to get and I still use it. I have a fair amount of those now though. I have a bunch of aprons, but I love getting nice aprons.
Oh! Bar stuff I really like but would never buy myself. I like to do cocktails for my fancy dinners and parties. So, like, a crew bottle is the sort of thing I would LOVE to have, but I probably won't ever buy myself. Or vintage glass tiki swizzles. I would love to have one of those glass topping cocktail smoker things.
But honestly I'm happy enough with a bottle of whiskey or a bouquet of grocery store flowers. I care more about feeling thought of then I do about the gift SPECIFICALLY. My go-to gift for a dinner party is nice chocolates. If I'm staying with someone I usually ask them if they want anything from Montana and plan accordingly.
But also, don't feel guilty for asking, I was always free to say no and generally I'm VERY good at saying so!

I ove the night sessions! I'm more at my computer at night, so I can actually refresh the page once in awhile to see your comments, while during the day could only do that occasionally.
I'm glad it works out well for someone! It makes it a little easier to do knowing that at least someone benefits by it!

How is the childcare-free life working out so far?
It's a little stressful, but we make do! I do a lot of stuff at night (which is what I'm doing right now!) and i assume it'll get easier as soon as beeb starts preschool in Septemeber. It's only Tuesday Thursday half days, but that's still something, and it'll give me much more time than I really have now.
Right now, we're in spring hunting season, so it's even a little more stressful, because Jill doesn't watch the beeb on Mondays. So I guess let's all hope she has a lot of luck, because then she'll have random days off I can absolutely make use of!
Until then you'll have to deal with me being a little scattershot, but I promise I am in fact doing my best to dig in here. I also have friends coming to visit in like, a week, so there are a lot of chores that need doing.

OH DAMN! I was actually right, completely accidentally! Assuming i believe him, and honestly at this stage in the show I have absolutely no reason to think this isn't going to be true, he's been trying to shield Claire from it.

I believe this! I believe he regrets it all, I believe he was scared of being seen for who he was, I believe that he thinks he has made a mess of his life (and he has). But also, if I'm her, I don't exactly CARE. I know this is going to strike some of you as odd given that I am the queen of letting people grow from their pasts and that it's never too late to stop fucking up, but he hasn't CHANGED anything as of yet. I would be singing a completely different tune if he had been an amazing father who was engaged with the girls. I would have still thought hiding Thea was shitty, but I would have DOGGEDLY argued that he was a great father to them, and this one lie does not remove all of that.
But he wasn't! In some ways he was a better father to Thea! So, I think all of this is true but also, that sounds real sad for you, pal.

I am astounded and shocked by this, admittedly, even knowing that I am a different person from other people and that is fine and grand paintings are only ever made with a wide palette of colors, etc, but also JESUS. So she did jump, and I guess they just didn't want to show the stunt if at all possible, that's fine, they're on a budget, I get it. You do something like that, and you're essentially saying you don't give a fuck what it does to the people behind you. You do it all in a very self-centered way, of course, and convince yourself that they'll be so much happier, but really you just...don't care.
Curtis will never, ever forget this. Ray too, of course, and I feel bad for him because he also will blame himself for something that is the fault of the person who did the jumping, but Curtis is young, and Curtis acted out in a way that admittedly was not impressive, and Curtis will be HAUNTED by this. He will believe he killed her. What a thing to put on a kid. To believe that his anger had such huge consequences, his very understandable anger.

You know, i don't think we've seen or asked Grace what she thinks. I won't presume to say what she should or shouldn't think, but if i had been married to someone for 40 plus years, years i considered good, even if I was so angry at them, I still would probably want to see them if my daughter was going through something like this. Whether Grace wants to be mad or not should be up to her and maybe she has said! But we haven't seen her do it, while we've seen a lot of her daughters presuming how she should or shouldn't feel
