Prompt #18: A Fish Out of Water

Hit the ground running. Fly with her wings. A simple enough task in day to day life. She ran so fast now that she could feel so much further. That her wings could spread so far. But sometimes she was reminded. Sometimes her roots held her fast. Sometimes it was minor. Sometimes...
Adventurers did cullings. Something she’d come to learn as she and her Hawk had taken on the task of training and protecting the younglings. The new ones. Whether it be animal, plantkin, or monster; The task was needed. The task would be done. And as with all things... They could go wrong. They did go wrong. From benign to disastrous. From pests to far worse-
Her wings swirled around her in a flurry of wind and sand as she flung herself around and in front of Sawyer, her heels dragging and digging into the loose dirt with her hands splayed wide. The barrier of stone leapt from the ground before her with a cracking of earthen bones. The air burned with ozone as lightning split across either side. She felt a twin of herself as Sawyer loosed a cartridge on another. She was up and over her wall with a torrent of wind, rock wall flooding the ground with sand; swept up into a rain of shards and death to hail on the hapalit- disrupted, dissented, as Amesha was sent sprawling and tumbling across the crystalline ground by a wide swung horn. The breath gone from her chest, her wings scattered, her senses scrambling. Getting them to respond was enough of a struggle- Barely even having the presence of mind to keep her hands from spasming after the blow. If she could see, there would be stars. Instead she suffered momentary remembrances in flickers. Flashes of words and screaming. So many times had she been in this situation. She was in no danger. She would survive. There was little that could harm her. The rest around her... They were transient. Replaceable. It would not hurt her. She laid there. She listened. She felt flames curl over her head. Sawyer was yelling for her to get up.
Desert winds rocketed her to her feet and back to her partner’s side, though her step stumbled as she landed. Her wings circled them, crystal beacons in this overload of her senses, as she stayed as close to Sawyer as she dared. That implicit understanding. Though it was before her wings. The circles of undead. Of creatures she could not feel at the edges of her senses. Her Hawk acting as her eyes. Marking, calling, pointing her and her destruction where it might do its most. She centered herself on Sawyer. All that mattered were her words. Her wings flew high, their glow so bright it burned.
Shots rang out with spellwork. Shouts of direction. Sawyer’s hands guiding hers. Wind and stone and water all in tandem with lightning and fire and ice. She was no fighter. She never was. She never tried. Sawyer was. The Hawk was. This was their compromise. This was their peace. Back to back, always in tandem. She never could fight like this before. Run like this before. Even with her wings all it took was the slightest disruption and she was back to square one. Back to the oasis. Back to the start. Straining against herself. Fighting against years and years of self denial and limitations. But she could learn to fly like this. She could stand with her.

Gn!reader, you're a nymph
How would the sumeru men react to finding you and your grotto
I still have no idea what I'm doing
I've never written for Cyno, Alhaitem or Scara so forgive me if something is out of character
Cyno
He's patrolling the desert. There have been lots of cave-ins in the area recently and he wants to figure out if there is a specific cause that he can solve or if he should just warn people about the area
As he walks, he feels the sand beneath his feet begin to fall and he tries to jump away but it's too sudden and he falls
He braces for impact but lands into a net of vines that gently lower him to the ground
Your standing next to him, arm extended with the sunlight on your back, looking gorgeous and radiant, then you speak
"I can't be-leaf someone fell into here. Water you doing here?"
Archons, he might have fallen in love with you at that moment
He asks you about the recent cave in and you tell him it the Wenut mating season, and they're all trying to make burrows for their young. An inexperienced male has been digging here but didn't dig deep enough, which is why there are so many cave-ins. You tell him to just wait a month or two for the season to end
The hole is fairly deep and so you build him a ladder out of vines and he promises to return
After reporting what happened with the cave-ins, he returns and finds you've been repairing your grotto in the mean time, removing the dirt and stones that fell
You're very excited to see him and take him deeper into your grotto, further underground
It's beautiful, with purple, white and yellow flowers illuminating the area. Glowing stones are scattered in the ceiling like stars
He makes a regular habit to visit you and introduces you to Tighnari pretty soon (but he doesn't visit much due to his incompatibility with the heat). You all like to have Genius Innovation TCG together (Cyno teaches you and gives you cards)
He finds himself falling asleep in your grotto, surrounded by the glowing flowers and flowing water
He has to stop visiting for a few months due to work, but tries to wrap it up as fast can to see you
When be returns, he finds your grotto has been severely damaged, much of the flora dying. He searches high and low for you, going to the deepest part of the grotto where rocks fall away and reveal a very weakened you
You tell him people found out about your grotto and stole as many of your rare plants as they could, weakening you greatly and you had to hide yourself and your remaining plants away
He's furious and immediately takes action
He works with Tighnari and Lesser Lord Kusanali to make you and your grotto a protected space
And though he can't punish the researchers for over-foraging (since you and your grotto weren't legally protected), he does let other researchers know of their actions, resulting in those researchers being shunned
He helps you and your grotto return to full health and always tries to visit once a week to 'keep away any trouble makers" (but he just wants to visit you)
You both often fall asleep together in the deepest part of the grotto, happy in each other's presence
Alhaithem
He was looking through the old archives. The scrolls and books here were no longer scientifically accurate, but were kept for record purposes
He's found an old book about mythical creatures of Sumeru: Aranara, Nymphs, Djinn, Rocs, and more. He decided to rent it out and give it a read
Reading it at his house wasn't an option as it would be too loud (Kaveh, whom he didnt feel like dealing with today), the Academia students and researchers were always bothering him if he was around (especially after the 'hero' title), so he decided to leave the city for a bit.
As he walked, he found a small cave and decided to read there
Inside was larger than he expected, with a small moss-covered shrine and little yellow flowers. He sat on one of the rocks to read
It was wonderfully calm and quiet. The right temperature, the trickle of water from a nearby stream, the rustle of the leaves... it was all perfect
So, he came back here again and again, reading his books late into the evenings
He was in the middle of his mythical creatures book, on Nymphs, when he felt a presence and immediately looked for it
You sat on the shrine, staring at him, head tilted in wonder
He looked between his book and its description of Nymphs and you... and it seems he found a mythical creature. Regardless, he continued to read and you continued to watch him
Eventually, he turned to you and asked why you were just staring at him, to which you shrugged and said "If a man were to walk in your yard everyday and read, doing nothing else at all, wouldn't you grow curious?"
He was mostly surprised by the fact you could respond. The book said that Nymph's were shy creatures who couldn't talk
But to you, this man had been a regular visitor to your grotto for months now. His scent was just part of your grotto, like the duskbirds and rishboland tigers. He wasn't a stranger at all
Alhaithem decided to ask you a few questions about Nymphs which you agreeably answered, even showing in the deeper parts of the grotto that he hadn't noticed were there
You both fell into a comfortable routine of him visiting you on his days off to read in comfortable silence while you worked on your grotto
Despite being able to talk in every language he could, he realized you couldn't read at all
He helped you learn how to read and you helped him relax and have the perfect reading spot
You became reading buddies, and even though you would ask him with question on words, it never bothered or annoyed him
He subtly made your grotto a legally protected area so if anyone messed with it, they would have to pay
You were his safe space, and in return, he would protect you too
Scara/Wanderer
Nahida asked him to go outside and touch grass more
Just kidding, she asked him to find a rare flower, only ever found underground in rare Nymph Gardens
She gave him a rough idea where he might be able to find it and off he went, grumbling the whole way
Finding the entrance to the cave wasn't hard. All he had to do then was follow the smell of fresh flowers. It was so simple for him (and most certainly didn't take him several days)
When he finally found your grotto, he couldn't find the flower Nahida had described for him and grumbled under his breath about it
This is where you come in: appearing next to his shoulder asking about what flower he was exactly talking about
You stare at him innocently even as he hold a swirl ball of anemo energy
You ask again and he asks who you are, cautious
"I'm the nymph of this grotto"
That can't be possible, Nymphs aren't real, surely you're pulling his leg
But you have flowers growing on you, the plants lean towards where you step and life seems to exude from you
He'll dispell his anemo attack and tell you about the flower. You nod and scoop it up a bit of dirt and grow the flower on it
He's wondering if there's a cost to it. You tell him it'll hurt you when he leaves with it. He asks what he owes you and you shrug and walk away to play with the springyness of a new fern
He brings the flower to Nahida then rushes back. Not because he's worried! He's just curious about the affects of removing the flower from your grotto (Nahida gives him a knowing smile as he leaves)
When he arrives, you're laying on the ground, looking unwell. He puts his hand to your forehead, and you're burning up
Why would you give the flower to him if it would hurt you so much?
"Because you needed it," you say with a smile
He'll take care of you for the next few days, your waking hours being filled with scolding and mild insults about how stupid it was to give all thay power to a stranger. What if they wanted to take advantage of you?
You laugh and smile. When he's not paying attention, you'll make little figurines out of flower of him
Then he'll notice and scold you for not resting properly, idiot (he does think it's very cute though)
He'll protest even when you insist you are perfectly healthy again
You'll take him to the deepest part of the grotto where you made a picture of the two of you in glowing flowers. He says it looks stupid, but you notice his little blush and giggle
He has to leave for a few days and during that time, treasure hoarders find your grotto
They have no respect for your plants, so you hide, slowly growing weaker and weaker as they pick and burn your plants
Needless to say, when Scara returns and sees you hanging on by a thread, he's pissed
He wipes them out and tends to you once again. It takes months this time until you are healthy, but he's by your side every step of the way
"Clearly, you can't take care of yourself, so I'll have to watch out for you! Hey! Don't giggle! What's so funny, idiot?"

Ever since school, Emma had been your best friend and now that you were both in your early twenties, and studied law at the prestigious Oxford university, nothing really changed. 
Your friendship had grown even stronger despite differences in personalities – you being introverted and reserved, she boldly exploring her newfound independence.
Emma was always full of surprises - from her unexpected move to New York City without telling anyone and then coming back six months later, to now referring to herself as Jamie Dornan's sugar baby when you were on your own while, otherwise, keeping it discreet. 
When alone with you, she would often talk about having "intimate encounters" with him and sometimes even others, keeping you amused while leaving you curious about what exactly happens behind closed doors. You were often thinking about 50 Shades of Gray, spiking your curiosity, although Emma assured you that it was nothing like that.
When talking to Emma and her sugar baby experience, it felt like one day she decided to break all boundaries – whether social or moral – as if embracing freedom beyond comprehension. Despite her brazen behavior, deep down inside, she still cared deeply about your opinion which made things interesting when discussing such topics together over coffee late into the night, sitting among the humming crowd of the cozy London Cafe.
The coffee shop filled up quickly around lunchtime, making it harder for Emma to continue sharing stories confidentially.
You eventually moved outside underneath the shade of a large tree, sipping their drinks while enjoying the cool evening air. Again, your conversation turned towards the subject of sex which was something your life was lacking.
To you only, Emma often opened up about her time spent with Jamie, the man who had become what she calls her "sugar daddy".
Their relationship was nothing serious and it was that, just after his messy and rather public divorce, he sought solace in younger women whom he could provide financial stability for. In return, they agreed upon fulfilling his needs discreetly and you knew that Emma was not the only one. 
As she shared more explicit details of their sessions, which she only did with you, the way she spoke became increasingly sensuous. She had fun, it seemed, and it was just last week that she had engaged in her first ever threesome with Jamie and another man.
"A threesome, with two men?" you asked incredulously, gripped with curiosity as she mentioned it for the first time that day. You only ever had sex with one man, and it was nothing short of boring to say the least.
"Yes. Jamie had a friend over, and it just happened. It wasn't really planned. But we had lots of fun and probably too much to drink as well" she giggled seductively, leaning forward slightly as if divulging a juicy secret. The sunlight reflected off her soft skin causing her silhouette to waver rhythmically against the foliage behind her. 
"Uhm, okay..." you began. "So who was the guy? Was he an actor too?" You queried, genuinely intrigued.
"Yes, he is an actor too, but I really shouldn't talk about this." Her tone implied reluctance to share further details.
Curiosity peaked, you probed, "But come on, tell me! Who is he? You know I won't tell!"
 She hesitated before speaking again, seemingly caught between excitement and fear. "His name is Cillian," she finally revealed, and your chin dropped.
"It's not Cillian Murphy though, is it?" you clarified, thinking of the renowned Irish actor who portrayed one of your favourite TV characters, namely Thomas Shelby. 
"Jepp," she replied simply, confirming your suspicion.
"Oh my god...Cillian Murphy? Is he actually single enough to do that kind of thing? Like wow..." you couldn't help feeling shocked. Even considering you hadn't met him personally, there was undeniable respect and admiration attached to Cillian's image as he tried to stay out of the tabloids as much as possible. 
"Well yeah, apparently he filed for divorce two weeks ago. Weird timing, right?" Emma said, looking almost surprised herself before you took up the courage to probe her with more questions.
"So, you actually had full on sex with them both? At the same time? In the same room?" 
Your head swam with visions of those three intertwined bodies, imagining the erotic chaos taking place beneath the sheets. "Wasn't it weird?" you then asked. You had so many questions.
"Yes, we had sex at the same time and it was crazy," Emma admitted, smiling mischievously. "And no, it didn't feel weird at all. It was exciting, surprisingly so."
Her frankness startled you somewhat, used to living within societal norms, yet also fascinated by how freely Emma discussed these experiences. Perhaps it was because of your conservative background that she never judged your naïveté regarding intimacy.
"I mean, Cillian Murphy is pretty fucking hot, so I do not blame you," you said, catching yourself off guard with your sudden audacity.
Emma laughed lightheartedly. "You want details don't you?" Emma teased, already aware of your insatiable curiosity. Your cheeks flushed crimson in embarrassment, partly due to her keen observation, partly due to the explicit nature of our conversation.
"Yes, of course," you stammered nervously, clearing your throat. You could barely look at Emma straight in the eye anymore, instead fixating on the ground, afraid that your face might betray you completely.
"What do you want to know about?" Emma continued, unperturbed.
"Everything. All the dirty details," you confessed honestly, unable to suppress your voyeurism any longer. "I mean, did they both, you know, at the same time, you know..." you stammered, wondering whether they simply took turns or penetrated her at the same time.
"Put their dicks in me?" Emma laughed, seeing how shy and embarrassed you were, causing you to nod.
She proceeded, "Yes, eventually. They took turns first but then both of them wanted to be with me at once. At first, I thought it was a bit awkward, but after getting comfortable, it became thrilling and liberating." 
You chin dropped, speechless. How could someone like Cillian Murphy be entangled in such debauchery? 
"You look really shocked right now," observed Emma, watching your expression carefully. "Is it because I told you or because of who it was with?" 
Though you were tempted to ask about Jamie, your mind remained fixated on Cillian. As far as you were concerned, he was practically handsome. To think he was capable of participating in these types of wild escapades was surreal. 
"A bit of both," you responded, half questioning and half affirming, hoping she wouldn't sense your growing interest.
"You know, he is single and I could get Jamie to introduce you sometime, maybe. If you want to meet him," she added nonchalantly, as if suggesting dinner plans. 
This left you stunned momentarily. You considered the possibility, envisioning yourself engaging in similar carnal acts.
"I don't think so, no... I mean, I am not like you," you protested timidly, attempting to regain composure. 
"I think you are thinking too much about moral standards which are absurd concepts, developed by society to control people and maintain certain order," Emma chuckled, referring to your prudish nature.
"Cillian is single and he was clearly intrigued by what Jamie and I have going, because it is simple. There is no hassle. No feelings. Only pure physical satisfaction. That's the arrangement between us. No strings attached. And he takes care of me financially which is really helpful seeing that I am, just like you, a student with a huge student debt," Emma went on matter-of-factly.
"That sounds nice," you commented, trying to understand why Emma would agree to being part of such arrangements without seeking a deeper connection. "But, don't you find it degrading sometimes?"
Emma gave you a sidelong glance, understanding perfectly well where your concerns stemmed from. "No, because there is absolutely nothing wrong with having sex for personal gain, especially when consent is given mutually. Despite, I actually really enjoy the sex. It's different than anything else, more intense and raw - and I feel closer to myself afterwards. There's just something powerful about it, you know? Sometimes I wonder how long this will go on, but then I remember that as long as everyone gets what they need, nobody gets hurt. This keeps everything simple and fair game, which suits me fine.”
You listened quietly, struggling to process all the information. It was difficult to imagine Emma – sweet, innocent Emma – as someone who enjoyed these kinds of arrangements. Yet somehow, hearing her describe it made it sound logical, even reasonable.
After all, money was tight for students. If consensual adults found pleasure in such arrangements, why should anyone judge them? You understood why Jamie paid for expenses in return for sexual favors – he wanted to compensate Emma for services rendered, plain and simple. Still, you marveled at how easily she glossed over potential consequences associated with such liaisons.
She always had nice, expensive things nowadays, clothes and shoes alike and she spent most nights with him, having fun and enjoying her life.
Their lifestyle seemed enviably easy and carefree compared to yours, stuck with heavy books and a mountain of debts piled high. Maybe it was worth exploring, you mused fleetingly. Still, you knew deep down inside that this wasn't the path you wanted to take. The idea felt morally corrupt, and it terrified you.
Back in reality, however, the fact still remained that you lacked the confidence needed to approach someone like Cillian Murphy let alone sleep with him. You were too scared of rejection and failure.
It was hard to believe that someone like Cillian Murphy could ever give you the attention you desired. Besides, it wasn’t as if you would suddenly become desirable just because you slept with him. Deep down, you worried that you weren't good enough. Your insecurities consumed you. However, the more you talked to Emma, the more curious you grew. How would it feel to be with such a person? What would happen during the act itself? Would they dominate you entirely? Or perhaps be gentle? So many questions filled your mind as you tried to grasp onto reality.
"Maybe dinner would be alright. I mean, nothing bad can come from meeting new people, right?" You countered cautiously, your heart racing slightly. Meeting someone like Cillian Murphy was indeed exciting, yet nerve-wracking simultaneously.
"Right. I will organise it then!" Emma said excitedly and, to you, agreeing to meet Cillian Murphy felt monumental, almost surreal.
You couldn't help feeling excited, hopeful that he would notice you among others and throughout the night, you couldn't stop reflecting upon the encounter with Emma. Her stories sparked countless fantasies that tormented your imagination, leaving you eager to experience pleasures beyond conventional boundaries. Even though it meant facing risks and challenges outside your comfort zone, the prospect of indulging in passionate encounters captivated you.
After all, hadn't dreaming been harmless until it turned into reality? Confronting your fears allowed you to grow stronger. As you sipped on another cup of coffee, lost in thought, Emma noticed your contemplation.
"So, are you really really sure?" Emma asked, seeing how nervous you were already. 
"Yes. It's just dinner, right?" you said and Emma chuckled and agreed.
"Yes, but these things can lead to more. There is no pressure though," Emma reassured you as a mischievous grin spread across her lips.
"Exactly," you nodded vigorously, although doubts crept into your head when you looked up his soon to be ex-wife and the women he had dated before, all of whom were extremely attractive. 
How could anyone possibly compete against those women? Why would he bother with somebody like me? These negative thoughts flooded your brain but nevertheless, you decided to push through these anxieties. After all, life was full of surprises and opportunities. Who knows, you may end up liking each other!
"Alright, we're doing this, then. Let's see where it leads," you confirmed firmly, looking determined despite your lingering insecurities.
Emma grinned broadly, pleased with your decision as she picked up the phone and called Jamie.

“Hey, there he is! Say hi to Translucent everybody!” Homelander said cheerfully, as he wrapped his arm around Translucent’s shoulders, effectively pulling him away from you. The invisible man smiled and waved out to the crowd.
“Hey Homelander,” he responded, smiling as the fans cheered and roared at seeing two of the most famous heroes of The Seven acting like the best friends they all assumed they were.
Homelander kept a smile on his face as he used his other hand to slap Translucent’s chest in what seemed to be a friendly gesture. But you knew otherwise. Homelander’s chuckle faded as leaned in.
“Hey, yeah, if I ever see you fucking look in her direction again I’ll burn a hole into your fucking skull. Indestructible skin, give me a fucking break,” Homelander’s smile widened as Translucent paled, a fake smile still plastered on his lips.
“What? Homelander I-“
“Uh-uh. Nope, you don’t get to fucking speak,” Homelander jostled the invisible man closer to him, still smiling. “This guy, huh?” He called out onto the crowd, his canines glistening as they caught the sunlight. The fans ate the interaction up, cheering louder.
“I won’t repeat myself, you fucking pervert. Look at her like that again and I’ll kill you,” he promised. With one last laugh and shake, Homelander let the invisible man go and waved out to the crowd as everyone roared even louder than before. Translucent turned back to his line of fans waiting to take a picture while Homelander made his way over to you, his smile never faltering. You were bent over, leaning down to take a picture with a little girl who showed up to the event dressed as you. Homelander smiled politely at the girls parents and “humbly” refused their praise as they thanked him for keeping the city safe.
“No, please. You guys are the real heroes. We just wear the suits.” He nodded graciously and you smirk up at him as they leave.
“For someone who just threatened to kill one of our team members, you’re awfully cheerful,” you teased. Homelander playfully rolled his eyes at you, his hands poised behind his back in his signature pose.
“That ungrateful little fuck needs to learn to keep his eyes off of things that aren’t his,” he shrugged, giving a tight smile to another on looker who called out his name and waved.
“Oh is that so? And what exactly was he looking at ‘that wasn’t his’?” You joked sincerely as you smiled out into the crowd again and they chanted your name. Homelander looked down at you again, this time his voice almost as sincere as yours.
“You,” he replied and you laughed, not catching onto his change in tone.
“And pray tell, to whom do I belong to then?” You sassed, and turned to look him in the eye ruefully. Homelander’s gaze was focused solely onto your eyes and your smile faltered slightly at his semi-serious expression.
“Me. Duh.”

"We're back!" Tessa's voice echoed throughout the main hall of the empty cathedral.
Bumblebee gave a little wave, while your attention didn't move from his thigh. Focusing on adjusting a couple of bolts, that the yellow scout has been complaining about for the past couple days.
"Hey." Cade greeted from the makeshift table. "I found a whole bunch of boxes of clothes. So Tessa, sweetie. You can find some long pants. Nice loose-fitting ones, and lose the short-shorts, okay? What you guys get?"
Tessa and Shane emptied their backpacks onto the table. Various fruits, long life items and random tools spilled in front of Cade.
"It's protein." Tessa simply said, placing the container in front of him.
"Look, I said the essentials, okay?"
"It wasn't easy." Tessa sighed, "we almost got caught."
Cade raised an eyebrow, as Shane placed a bottle of mouthwash onto the table. "You stole mouthwash?"
"I like to be fresh, when I'm making out with your daughter." Shane spoke with a smug smile.
Tessa chuckled, while you and Bumblebee looked away. Trying to hide your cheeky smiles, as the pair of you giggled under your breathes.
Cade's brows knitted together, reaching out for the bottle and throwing it across the table. "Yeah that's not happening. Ever!"
Tessa and Shane gave each other awkward smiles.
"A little bit late for that." Your teasing tone whispered to Bumblebee.

Walking into the main hall of the cathedral with laptop in hand. The sound of small giggles caught your attention, your movements coming to a halt as your eyes looked away from the screen. Your soft gaze falling onto Tessa and Shane whom cuddled in their little ‘love nest’ corner. Her head resting against Shane’s chest as they sprawled out on the couch, the gentle glow of the dusk sunlight bathing them in a soft colourful glow, as it streamed through the stained-glass window. Numerous candles surrounding them setting the scene just right.  
A small smile tugged the corners of your lips, I’m glad they’ve found some calm before the storm.   
“Ah-hem. Excuse me.” Cade’s voice echoed throughout the hall, “there’ll be no smooching in front of me. Thank you.” 
Speaking of storms... 
The couple broke apart, feeling Cade’s disapproval stare upon them. 
“You’re so old, Dad.” Tessa complained, “who even saids ‘smooching’ anyway?” 
A small prickle of envy crawled in your chest, as you hugged the laptop. Lowering your head a little, attempting to hide your suttle frown.  
“It can be so difficult sometimes.” Cade sighed, while drinking a protein shake. His annoyed stare looking  up at Optimus, “I’m telling ya. No respect these days.” 
Optimus nodded folding his arms across his chest, “I went through something similar with Bumblebee.” 
The small prickle of envy snipped your yearning heart, like a flower's thorn upon your skin. Bringing the laptop a little closer to your face, as your cheeks grew a little warm. As the ‘almost kiss’ between you and Optimus replayed in your thoughts.   
“Afternoon, Y/N” the sound of Crosshairs' voice caused you to jump a little.  
“Cr-Crosshairs? Sorry, you startled me.” 
“Really?” you felt his green optics study you. “Something on your mind?” 
“Just... running through the plans.” You spoke with a fake smile, “making sure everyone knows the drill, and what not.” 
You raised an eyebrow as Crosshairs briefly turned to Drift. Glancing over his shoulder at the blue Autobot, whom gestured in your direction, then to a set of stone stairs.  
“Is everything alright, Crosshairs?” your puzzled tone caught his attention.  
“Yea. Yea.” he assured with a teasing smile, “just remembered that the Big Boss wants to see you.” 
You tilted your head a little. Pressing the laptop harder against your chest, as your heart skipped a little. 
“Optimus?...” your voice was low, trying not to sound too surprised.  
“Yeah. He said it was something important, or whatever.” 
Your confused gaze switched between Optimus, whom still muttered something to Cade, and back to Crosshairs who just stood beside you. Fidgeting around his pistol.  
“Ok... well um... I guess I should head over to him-” 
A small yelp escaped your lips as he quickly got in your way.  
“No! No!” his whisper-shout came out a little louder than intended. “I-I mean...” 
Crosshairs gestured you to come a little closer, as he squatted down to your level.  
“Crosshairs, what’s going on?”  
The Autobot sighed, as his optics fell onto your unamused and confused expression. “Look... I don’t know what the Big Boss wants to discuss with you. Honestly he was very vague about it-” 
“Optimus is rarely vague about anything-” 
“My thoughts exactly. So I’m assuming it’s something important but also private.” 
Crosshairs attempted to hold a convincing smile, as your eyes studied his features.  
“Okay...” raising an eyebrow again. Your expression matching your unsure tone, “where do you think he’d would wanna talk?” 
“My best guess would be the tower behind you.”  
You briefly followed his gesture, pointing at the stone stairs behind you.  
Crosshairs shrugged at your silent question. Your eyes studied him one more time, before hesitantly approaching the stairs. 
“Well, you almost fucked that up.” 
Crosshairs glanced up at Hound, giving the Autobot daggers as he came out of hiding, once assured you were out of earshot.  
“Shut up.” Crosshairs hissed, standing to his full height. “I told you, I’m not good at this mushy stuff. If you’d ask me, I think this whole plan is pathetic.” 
“¬ you can’t handle the truth!¬” Bumblebee buzzed. His blue optics narrowing at his comrade.  
  “Autobots?”  
All froze as the sound of Optimus’ voice interrupted them.  
“What’s going on?”  
“¬Y/N wants¬ to see you¬ outside¬ Sir.” 
Optimus’ titled his head to the side, his optics giving Bumblebee a questioning gaze. “Why?” 
All speechlessly shrugged. But a annoyed whirl wheezed out of Bee, rolling his blue optics at his comrades, while impatiently grabbing Optimus’ servo.  
“Bumblebee? What?-” 
“¬Outside!¬” Bee simply repeated. Pulling his leader towards the large arch, which lead towards one of the cathedral’s courtyards.  
Optimus looked over his shoulder, giving a confused expression to the rest of the Autobots. Drift looked away, trying to hide his knowing smile. While Crosshairs and Hound simply sighed and walked away.

Approaching the small stone balcony, a gasp left your breath as your wide eyes fell upon the most curious of sight.  
A mixture of fairy lights and string lights lit up the courtyard below. Hanging upon trees and their overhanging branches, dancing up the stone pillars which held the dome roof of a small gazebo. Delicate white lanterns lit by candlelight, was suspended above the gazebo. Their strings stretching from the balcony’s stone frame, to the nearby fence.  
Roughly potted flowers lined the courtyard’s flowerbeds, matching the drooping flowers in the large stone pots upon the balcony. A small chuckle escaping you, as your eyes fell upon a bench. Clearly from inside the cathedral, but broken down to fit upon the balcony’s edge. Dressed in loosely thrown flower petals, as it rested against the iron railings of the balcony. 
This is by far, better than Tessa’s love nest.  
Placing a hand over your mouth, attempting to hide your shy smile. As the sight of Bumblebee dragging Optimus by his servo came to you.  
The prime muttered something to the yellow scout, but Bumblebee only shook his head. Optimus’ optics tried to avoid your soft gaze, as Bee turned and went behind him. Giving the leader one final push against his back, before scuttering away.  
“This is... unexpected.” 
Your sweet tone caught his attention. Optimus’ shy gaze slowly left the floor and onto your blushing face.  
“As it is for me.” He spoke, rubbing the back of his neck. “A thousand apologies, Y/N. This isn’t- I-I mean, it isn’t my intention-” 
“It’s alright, Optimus.” you assured.  
Your warm smile made his spark skip a beat. A gentle hue of warmth returning to underneath his metal plates.  
“It’s makes a lovely change from seeing graffitied walls and boarded up windows.” 
Optimus returned your warm smile, “indeed it does...” 
You clutched onto the laptop tightly, holding it against your chest. As though it would somehow stop the rapid beating of your heart. Warmth came to your cheeks, as you shyly looked away from him. 
His scanners picked up your pulsing heart and shaky breath. 
Say something! His processors commanded. Anything! 
“The laptop in your hands? I um... do not remember you having it before.”  
Idiot!  
“Um... yeah.” You begun to fiddle with it. “I found it in the station back in Texas. I’ve been going over the plans for tomorrow.” 
Optimus nodded, “familiarizing oneself of the strategies and plans, is highly wise. That way you’d most certainly be prepared for anything.” 
You awkwardly nodded. Your foot slowly tracing invisible circles upon the balcony floor.  
I am going to whack Crosshairs with a wench next time I see him! Your thoughts scolded.  
Optimus’ digits became fidgety. His servos clenching and unclenching, as he shifted his weight from one pedal to the other. Edging a little closer to the balcony which came to his chest plate. 
His optics widening a little, as you prepared to turn away from him. 
Please don’t leave... 
“I-I would like to hear the plan.” his voice spat out. 
You gazed back at him with a raised eyebrow.  
Optimus cleared his throat, “please... I would appreciate if you’d ran a few details by me again.” 
“Sure... of course.”

A sad whirl wheezed out of Bumblebee, lightly slapping the palm of his servo against his face plate. As him and Tessa moved away from the closed balcony doors.  
“I agree.” She muttered, “it is painful.” 
Her eyes watched as the yellow scout slouched against the bricked wall. A warm smile tugging at her lips, as Bee’s optics gazed down at his peds. 
“Hey. We can still help move things along.” 
Bee perked up at her cheerful tone. His hopeful gaze returning to her. 
“I’m pretty sure I saw a basketball downstairs-” 
“And I saw~ broken bits~ of mirror!” the Autobot buzzed. 
“Perfect!”

“And with that, we should be straight in, straight out.” 
You looked up at Optimus with a soft smile. His gentle expression smiling back, as the redness of your cheeks never faded. His optics finding difficulty to look away for your soft lips. 
His spark tried to drive his body towards temptation, while his processors teased him with the ‘almost kiss’ back at the station. 
“I cannot help...” Optimus spoke, requiring more focus upon his words than usual. “I cannot help but be concerned for your safety. As if anything were to happen...” 
His sentence trailed off into silence, as his optics slightly widened at the sight of you reaching out to him. The cooling fans within his vents working overtime, as the Autobot tried to regulate his climbing body temperature. Your cool, soft touch sent volts of electricity through him, as your fingertips lightly brushed the back of his servo. Not knowing that you made his Spark yearn for you even more.  
“You shouldn’t be worried about me. I can take care of myself.”  
Your voice sounded like a sirens song, to Optimus’ audio receivers.  
“Perhaps something like this would ease your mind.” 
Butterflies tangled your nerves, as they fluttered in your stomach. Your heart skipping a beat, as the bazaar idea came to you. Your cheeks radiating similar warmth to Optimus, as you felt his gentle yet lingering gaze. Concentrating on each breath you took, as his optics memorized every detail of your body. How your hair subtlety moved in the cool night air, how your clothes loosely hugged your figure. Yet also leaving each curve of your hips and thighs to one’s imagination.  
“Here.” you shyly spoke. 
Taking off the ring upon your finger, and placing it into the palm of his servo. Optimus briefly studied the simple iron band, before returning his gaze to you. Your sweet smile making his breath get stuck in his throat.  
“It’s my ‘Lucky Ring’- stupid I know. But it was the first thing I ever forged with my Dad, it’s... not perfect. But I feel like it’s brought me a lot of luck, so I was thinking... perhaps... you could have it.” 
Optimus gulped, “Y/N... I-I can’t-” placing his free servo over his aching Spark. 
You slowly skootched over to him, closing the gap between you.  
“Please, I want you to have it.” You carefully guided his digits to enclose around the ring. The small item simply getting lost in his closed fist.  
“So whenever you see it, you’d think of me. And that as long as you carry this, a part of me will always be safe with you.” 
Optimus caved in to his body’s temptations. His servo leaving his chest, and quickly wrapping around your waist, gently pulling you closer.  
“I do not require an item to think of you. For you are always running through my processors.” 
The blush across your features spread towards your ears, your face never felt so warm. As the wires within the Autobot’s abdomen crossed and entangled themselves. His Spark’s rhythm matching your pulsing heart.              
Optimus’ servo gently retracted from your waist, allowing his index digit to trace your curves before holding it out in front of you. 
Your starstruck gaze trailed down from his loving optics, a breathless gap escaping your lips, as the metal plates around his wrist shifted. Thin cables slithered out like snakes, as he brought your iron ring towards them. Immediately threading themselves through the band, securing it tightly against his metal plates, only allowing the ring to dangle a little.  
Placing a hand over your silent gasp, as Optimus opened his chest plates. Reveling his pulsing energy core, blue sparks zapped away from his Spark. His hopeful optics watched his core glow brightly in your eyes, his chest raising and falling, while his vents worked overtime.  
This... vulnerable feeling? His processors questioned. Is this how it feels to find... a Sparkmate?  
Your eyes widened as a glowing shard left his chest, it center glowed slightly dimmer than his Spark.  
“This is the Great Matrix of Leadership.” Optimus explained, as the ‘S’-shape shard dance and hovered in the palm of his servo. “It’s the only thing in this universe that can revive the Spark of a Cybertronian.” 
“Optimus... it’s beautiful.” 
The Matrix rapidly spun in his palm, a blue flash bursting from it’s center, as it shrunk to the size of a small pendant. Optimus gently threaded thin copper wires, which braided themselves together, through the tip of The Matrix  
Your heart jumped into your throat, as Optimus guided the necklace towards you.  
“It is my gift to you. So a piece of me is always with you-” 
“O-Optimus?-” 
“It will protect you from any harm. And if should anything ever happen to me, you’d be the one to ignite my Spark. For it’s you, who makes it pulse through my wires.” 
While the familiar sensation of a loving bond enveloped the pair of you. His knuckles caressed your cheek, as he gently placed The Matrix necklace around your neck.    
“Y/N... believe me, this is not something I do, nor say lightly." Optimus gently admitted, "I can’t give you normality, or anything a regular human could offer. But what I can give, is everything that I am.” 
A loving sigh escaped his lips, as you briefly caressed his cheek. Your hand trailing towards his neck, and your fingers tracing the back of his helm. Optimus’ chest closed again, as he placed his free servo around your waist again. Gently sweeping you off your feet, and bringing you closer to him.
"By my Spark, I would protect you. Adore you. Cherish and support anything that's important to you. If doubt ever aches your heart, I will not rest till I can do everything I can, to free you of such feeling."
He placed a gentle kiss upon your forehead, running a digit through your hair. As his optics shined with hope and love.
"And if you ever wished for a piece of the night sky. I would go to its depths, and bring you back the brightest star."

“What are you two doing?” Shaned asked raising an eyebrow. As his puzzled gaze fell upon Tessa hoisting up a mis-shaped, makeshift disco ball, while Bumblebee helped guide it. Attempting to not allow the object to knock against the broken window. 
“~Kiss the girl~” the Disney song buzzed from the scout’s radio. 
“Their leader has fallen for my sister.” Tessa briefly explained, “something about her being Optimus’... what did you call it, Bee?” 
“A~ Sparkmate~” 
“Yeah... that...” 
Shane placed his hands upon his hips. A smile tugging at the corner of his lips, “and that explains the uh, disco ball, how?” 
“~setting the mood~ for ~true loves kiss!-” 
“What racket are you two making now?” Crosshairs sighed.  
All three turned to the green Autobot, as he crouched near the landing of the stone steps. 
“Her sister, your boss.” Shane briefly spoke. 
Crosshairs folded his arms across his chest plates, “you two still wasting time with that nonsense? I told you, there’s no such thing as a ‘Sparkmate’-” 
“~what would~ you know~ about~ Sparkmate’s?” Bee challenged, letting go of the makeshift disco ball. 
“Bee!” Tessa cried, as the rope almost lifted her off the ground. 
The scout quickly grabbed the mirror coated ball, saving Tessa from flying a tall height. 
“It’s a interspecies relationship.” Crosshairs groaned, “such thing has never been heard of back on Cybertron.-” 
“~Love~ comes in~ different shapes!-” 
“Ugh, guys.” Shane’s small voice interrupted, as his surprised expression gazed out of the window. “You should take a look at this...”

Eyes closed and embracing one another. A satisfied hum rumbled in the back of Optimus’ throat, as his lips mimicked yours.  
Your heart fluttered, as The Matrix necklace rested against your chest. Your free hand trailed down from the back of his helm, towards Optimus' chest plate. Feeling the vibrations of his Spark, as it burst like small firecrackers.  
A muffled moan slipped from you, as his glossa entered your mouth. Deepening the kiss and exploring your flavour, he gently bit your bottom lip. Encouraging your tongue to enter his mouth.
The desire of wanting more knotted in Optimus' admonian, as one of his servo’s explored the curvature of your back. Reaching down towards the waistband of your trousers, slipping his digits underneath the fabric. Butterflies in your stomach, caused the lowest pits to do backflips. As you felt Optimus' servo play with the lace of your undergarments, before giving your ass a cheeky squeeze.   
A warmth built up within your core, as your body pressed against Optimus’ chassis. Small volts sparked throughout his wires, as your bust pushed up against him. Taking a moment to pull away from the kiss, as his optics took a cheeky sneak at your cleavage.  
S-Sweet Primus! 
A flickering flame built up within his core, as dirty thoughts intrude his processors. 
His servo cradled your back, as you leaned back a little. Allowing the prime to plant soft kisses along your collar bone, and up towards your neck. 
“Y/N... my Sweet Spark.” His toned rippled against you, causing excited shivers to run up your spine. 
“Optimus-” 
‘Crash!’ ‘Shatter!’ 
“Bumblebee!” the sound of your sister’s voice interrupted the silence. Followed by a sad whirl wheezing from the yellow Autobot.  
You and Optimus looked at the window, which overlooked the balcony. Just seeing a glimpse of Shane and Crosshairs ducking out of sight.  
An awkward chuckle erupted between the pair of you, as you and Optimus slowly broke away from one another. Your fingers and his digits tracing each others arm and down towards the palm. 
“We uh... should head back inside.” You lowly spoke. Cheeks blushing from the afterglow.  
Optimus tenderly kissed your cheek, before returning to his full height. “Indeed... perhaps, we could continue this another time?” 
Next Day
“Calm down. Calm down.” Shane nervously muttered to himself, as Bee slowly rolled up to the back entrance of K.S.I. 
“Y’know... in times like this, the idea is to keep cool, not look cool.” Cade sighed in the passenger seat. “So why don’t you lose the sunglasses?” 
Shane removed the item as Cade briefly glanced at him. 
“About a month ago, I thought I heard noises in the middle of the night. Was that you?” 
Shane gave him a wide eyed stare, “what? You’re asking me this now?-” 
“Don’t lie to me, kid. You see that guy with the gun out there?-” 
“There’s so many guys with guns!” his panicky tone hissed.  
“Let’s get out the car and tell him we’re about to break in.” Cade’s voice kept it’s calm and collected tone, “we could admit it was your idea. Cause I don’t care, I’m old, I’ve already lived long enough-” 
“You have a real bad habit of having these conversations at the wrong time, man!-” 
“You wanna come clean, or you want me to make a mess?” 
Shane’s heart leapt into his throat, as Cade cleared his throat. Attempting to politely get the attention of one of the guards, “Sir, can I talk to you for a second please?” 
“It was me. It was me” the Irishman lowly repeated, as the guard forced Cade’s door shut. Giving Cade a stern expression while shaking his head.  
“Taking it in for scanning?” another guard address Shane, while Bee rolled down the driver’s window. 
Shane silently nodded, holding up the forged K.S.I staff badge. The guard scanned it, looking over the pair before approving them to go ahead... 
The Camero rolled through a hanger of polished concrete floors, and wooden walls painted black. Shane and Cade scanned their surroundings, avoiding eye contact from passing staff members.  
“We took old, alien technology and made it better in every way.” A feminine voice echoed over the P.A system, “introducing Stinger.” 
Bumblebee rolled to a gentle halt, as Cade’s wide eyed stare glanced up at a pink Transformer. Which was displayed in the middle of the hanger. 
“That’s a bad-ass robot.” Shane admired, leaning closer to the windscreen. 
“Kinda looks like you, Bee.” 
Bumblebee revved his engine, disagreeing with Cade’s observation. 
The Texan got out of Bee’s passenger seat, slowly approaching the display. He looked around the hanger, before activating the video recording system, that Crosshairs’ hid into Cade’s smart watch. 
“Can you see this, Sweetie?” Cade whispered to you through his ear piece.  
“I see it, Dad.” Your polite tone confirmed. “What the hell are these guys doing?” 
“Looks like, they’re trying to build their own versions of the Transformers-” 
“Well, at least they’re picking cooler cars than this.” Shane interrupted.  
Bee revved his engine again, pushing his stirring wheel out of the dashboard and into Shane’s face.  
“¬You talk to me like that?¬” the yellow scout buzzed angrily.  
“Dad? What’s going on?” your voice scratched through Cade’s ear piece. 
“Nothing, Sweetie. I’ll send more stuff your way if I find anything.”  
Cade quickly deactivated the recording, approaching Bee’s passenger door again.  
“See what happens, when you try and be a smart-ass?” he hissed at Shane.  
Shane crawled out of the Autobot’s altmode. As an advertisement projected itself onto a screen, behind the Stinger display.  
“Inspired by Bumblebee. But better in every way” the femiline voice continued through the screen. 
“~What?~” Bee’s radio harshly buzzed. “~Son of a-” 
“No! No!” Cade yelled at the Autobot, whom decided to do burnouts in the hanger. Marking up the polished concrete floor, “you gotta calm down!” 
“Bee! Stop messing around!-” 
All froze as the sound of voices filled the hanger, Cade and Shane’s nervous stares glanced up at a group of people walking through doors on the opposite side of the hanger.  
“Hey!” one of their voices called out. “You two! Grease moneys!” 
"Oh shit..." Shane muttered. "That's Mr Joyce, the CEO of K.S.I." He nervously tried to hide behind Bumblebee, as the individual dressed in a fine tailored suit, and glasses approached Cade.     
“What the hell is going on here? And what’s with this vintage crap?” He hissed in an hushed whisper.   
Bee revved his engine as Mr Joyce gestured towards the Autobot.  
“We’re not scanning collector junk.” Joyce's tone held an amused tone, matching his expression. As he continued to talk to Cade, “what is it that you think we make here? Hmm? We make poetry here! We’re poets! When you work for me, you get to make one mistake. One. Understood?”  
“Yes Sir.” Cade professionally spoke, “understood. It won’t happen again, Sir.” 
“It certainly won't.” Joyce sighed, “now... let’s get this pathetic thing out of here. And you, too.” 
Cade silently nodded, feeling Joyce's stare look over him again. Before returning to the rest of the group, and escorting them out of the hanger.  
Shane released a heavy sigh of relief, that he had been holding in the whole time. 
“You and Bee leave here quietly.” Cade spoke, as he looked at the Irishman over his shoulder. “I’m going to try and have a look around. Hopefully Y/N is doing better than us...”

Your heels clicked along the marble floor, as you walked across the lab of the basement level. Scientists, engineers and various staff hovered around tables. Your hand clenching into a fist inside the pocket of the lab coat, while your free hand fiddled with The Matrix necklace. Your eyes looked at the multiple pieces of alien tech, which scattered across the metal tables throughout the lab.  
Your saddened gaze fell onto the heart-wrenching sight before you. A small gasp getting trapped in your throat, as your heart sunk deeper into your chest.  
You poor darling. You thought, as the lab-techs melted and pulled parts off, of a decapitated green Autobot helm. What have they done to you?-   
“Metal.” A blonde woman wearing a smart three-piece suit approached your side, her blue eyes following your gaze. As you played with your smart watch, discreetly sending the video footage to Drift.  
“Just metal. Well, that’s what I always thought of them.” 
“You’re wrong.” She gave you a puzzled side glance, as you tried to hide the breaking of your voice. “They’re more than that. They’re living beings with souls- like you and me.” 
You pulled a weak smile, “I uh, spoke to one... once.”  
“And you’re working with Transformium?” 
She studied your silent nod, before turning her attention onto a clear canister filled with a gray substance which looked like sand.  
“I’m out there digging for it.” She sighed, “there’s just not much left to find.” Her eyes flickered back to the Autobot’s helm, “so that how badly you guys need more, huh? Reduced to melting old Deceptions?” 
“That’s not a Deception.” You corrected, “that’s an Autobot. The ones who fought for us-” 
“They slaughtered Ratchet!” Optimus’ angry voice yelled through your ear piece. Almost hurting your ear drum. “I’m gonna tear them apart!” 
A loud sound of something falling echoed throughout your ear.  
“Excuse me.” You kindly spoke to the blonde woman, as you took a few steps towards one of the exits. “Optimus? Can you hear me?” 
Only radio static responded to you. 
“Crosshairs? Drift? Can any of you hear me? Please! Don’t do anything rash.” 
More static. 
An uncomfortable knot twisted in your stomach.  
Why do I have a bad feeling about this?- 
“Security to Level 3, please. Security to Level 3.” A voice echoed over the P.A system. 
Now what?

Shit! Shit! Shit!                
Cade ran across the third level of the K.S.I building. Alarms going off over the P.A system, as security followed him. 
Dodging between frozen staff members, and bursting through random doors. Cade almost made it back to the lift, which lead down back to ground level.  
But he had to come to a skidding halt, as more security guards cut him off. Aiming their weapons in his direction.  
“Up against the wall! Hands behind your head!” 
A heavy sigh left Cade, as he peacefully co-operated. As the security grabbed his arms, placing them against his back and pinning him against the window.  
“Corporate espionage.” A familiar voice caught Cade’s attention. Looking over his shoulder to see Mr Joyce, “that’s a very serious crime, Mr. Yeager. How I didn’t recognize you before baffles me, but no matter-” 
“Look! Before this goes any further, I want a lawyer!” Cade protested. “Th-The Justice Department. Somebody I can trust! I’m just trying to protect my family, okay? Not from your company! From the government!” 
“I can take it from here, Mr. Joyce.”  A new individual entered the scene, Joyce studied the new stranger before walking towards the lift at the end of the hall.  
Cade studied the new individual. A middle age man stood before him, well dressed like Mr. Joyce but his scalp reveling a receding hairline. Firm yet studious eyes hid behind thin glasses. He made a simple gesture at the security. Allowing Cade to face him fully, while rubbing his wrists a little.  
“My name is Attinger, Mr. Yeager.” He introduced, “and who do you think I work for?” 
Cade studied Attinger’s sly smile. 
“You’re trying to protect your family, that’s admirable. And I’m trying to defend the nation from a alien war, we’ve had a taste of what that looks like.”  
He carefully approached Cade, “and we’re certainly not going to tolerate another. Now... there is a version of this conversation, where you get to back to your barn. Your youngest daughter graduate with honor's, while your oldest gets a full-time position with any company within the U.S.A. I’ll even advocate for her personally for a six-figure salary, should she choose to work with me. And life as you know it, goes on.” 
Cade raised an eyebrow, as Attinger continued. 
“You and your daughters have no idea, what you gotten yourselves into.” 
“And what’s the other version of this conversation?” Cade challenged, bring a frown to Attinger’s features. “Sending in your ‘hired help’ to murder my little girls? Or are you going to man up and do it yourself?” 
“Depends on your preference, Mr. Yeager... I don’t ask much. You can still turn things into your favor. All you have to do, is convince your eldest to tell me where Optimus Prime is.” 
A cheeky smile came to Cade, as the reflection of Bumblebee in the nearby window caught his attention. “I didn’t raise no snitch-” 
‘Crash!’

Screams echoed throughout K.S.I as Crosshairs and Hound accompanied Optimus. Bursting through high windows, showering everyone below in a rain of glass, as the Autobots made their way through the lower levels. 
Crosshairs raised his pistol above his helm, firing warning shots as the trio entered the lab. 
“Get out! All of you!” Optimus roared, as people scattered away from him.  
“Science fair’s over, meat-bags!” Hound’s voice thundered.  
“Destroy the lab!”  
The Autobots happily carried out their leader’s orders. Crosshairs and Hound fired at the piles of alien technology, kicking tables and igniting all manner of equipment.  
“Excuse me!” You squeaked, trying to push through the flood of people exiting the lab. “Out of my way, please!” 
“Destroy it all!”  
Your pounding heart ached a little, as Optimus’ rageful voice yelled commands. 
“Hey!” Joyce's voice roared over the gunfire, storming over to the Autobot leader. “Hey! Stop! That’s company property!” 
“They’re not your property!” Optimus challenged, as he stood over Joyce. Allowing Hound to satisfyingly kick a table filled with alien parts.  
“They were my friends!” 
Joyce’s studious gaze analyzed the situation.  
Finally pushing through the crowd, your eyes widened as Hound clocked his cannon. The weapon releasing a humming sound, as he aimed it at Joyce.  
“Oh, you not talking so much now!” a smaller Autobot teased. “Not so tough when Hound is in front of you, huh?” 
You watched the small Cybertronian climb onto the barrel of Hound’s cannon, his optics glaring daggers at Joyce.  
“Go ahead.” Joyce calmly taunted, “show us your true colours, once and for all-” 
“Just give me the word.” Hound smiled, “I’ll splatter him-” 
“No! Don’t!” you cried.  
“Why don’t you tell Itchy Fingers here, that this is all the spoils of war?” Joyce challenged, “dead metal. Innovation. That’s what we do here, it’s simply science! Because if we don’t do it, somebody else will! Because you cannot stop technology!-” 
“We’re not your technology!” Optimus roared.  
You ducked as the Autobot blindly kicked machinery into your direction. Causing sparks to erupt from power-ports, and machinery bits fly over your head.  
“Optimus! Stop!” you begged.  
“Let me vaporize his ass!-” 
“Don’t do it, Hound!” 
You quickly approached Joyce, standing between him and the barrel of Hound’s cannon.  
"Out the way, Y/N." Hound's tone of voice sounded more like a warning, than a pea.
"No, I wont." You gazed into his green optics, range faded as sorrow filled them. "You're better than this Hound. Please... lower your weapon."
Hesitating for a moment, the Autobot grumbled. His cannon slowly shutting down, placing the weapon over his shoulder.  
“I broke the code. I own your whole genome.” Joyce spoke with a smug expression. Confidence returning to his tone, since you've became his 'shield.'  
“Keep digging your grave!” You hissed turning your whole body to him. “I’m not here for your sorry ass!” 
Optimus crouched down to your level, lowering the barrel of his weapon. As his servo went from the weapon's trigger, and reached out for you.
“Y/N...?”  
“We’ll tell the world what’s happening here.” You promised. Looking up at him, giving his index digit a comforting touch.  
Your voice almost soothing Optimus’ rage filled Spark.  
“Interesting... you allied yourself with them?’” Joyce questioned, gesturing at you and Optimus. His curious gaze switching between the pair of you, "or... am I sensing something, a little more?-"  
"I'm giving you one chance." You firmly spoke, turning your attention back onto Joyce. "Stop doing this. Or the whole world will know what's happening here! What you're doing them!"
Joyce snickered at your words, “the world? The world would approve, my dear. We can make them now. Don’t you get it? Humanity doesn't need the Transformers anymore-” 
“You’re wrong!” You said, shaking your head. “Humanity will always need the Cybertronians.” 
A weak smile came to Hound, “you tell him Y/N.” 
Optimus studied you and Joyce, puffing out his chest and releasing a unsatisfied huff.  
“Autobots... we’re done.”

It had started with the Clans.
Actually, it had started when Shigekuni Yamamoto was mugged for the fourth time in as many days, by agents of The Great Noble Houses, trying to influence the tide of their endless petty wars. You could hardly blame him for reacting as he did, somewhat literally blowing up with rage, and upon his return to his home office, rallying his fellow distraught men into a fighting force to stand up to the clans.
It had been quite a popular manuver for him, with the equally distraught and downtrodden citizens of the central rukongai threw their support behind him in short order. He was already well-known to them, and respected for his work. In a few short years, his meager forces had grown to rival the clans in power.
Then the Quincies had invaded the Spirit World, lead by some horrible creature known as Yhwach, seemingly Hell-Bent on conquest- which is where all of them would end up if The Archery Bastards kept shooting everything that moved and upended the balance between the worlds.
Now-General Shigekuni Yamamoto, the unfortunate bastard to whom the task of defending the largest city in the Spirit world from invasion had fallen, needed some muscle.
Why me, of all people? Surely there were others more qualified? He wondered, staring at the latest round of reports from the meager handful of his men that remained. Or perhaps everyone smart enough to actually do this is also smart enough to realize it was a lost cause and had thrown their lot in with one of the Noble Houses, and I am on a fool's errand.
Even just a handful of warriors with sufficient strength could break the leading edge of the Quincy line, and let the small army that remained slip behind them in to cut the Quincies off from their supply lines. It was just that breaking the wall of archers required at least a dozen of him.
"Word from lieutenant Sasakibe!" Shouted one of his soldiers, sprinting in the door and thrusting a letter at him. "Sorry sir I just remembered how important it was that you heard from him as soon as possible."
"You did as I asked." Yamamoto nodded, opening the letter. He had needed to stay- both to recover from his injuries and because if the Quincy got much closer, using Ryujin jakka to create a wall of fire around the city might be the only way to hold them off- and he had tasked Chojiro Sasakibe, his Longest and Dearest friend, with finding him the strongest warriors in Soul Society.
He took the scroll and opened it, reading the neat but excitably slanted handwriting within-
Dearest Shigekuni,
I am relieved to report I have found a dozen extremely powerful warriors per your request! I went on a hunch a friend of mine had, and found a concentration of MANY powerful warriors that would be willing to aid our cause, but twelve among them are particularly standout candidates. Given the rapid advance of the Quincy Army, I have included a teleportation spell to their location at the end of this scroll so you may meet them immediately.
"Incredible!" Yamamoto laughed. "Is there nothing this man cannot do?"
I do beg of you though- Please, reserve your judgement of them until you have seen their capacity.
"Ah." Yamamoto sighed. "...of course there's a catch."
Their circumstances are... complex, and this has made many of them rough and peculiar to speak to, but I swear we will not find better warriors, at least not before the Quincy advance reaches Seireitei.
I await your arrival, Chojiro
Yamamoto unfurled the scroll a bit more to see the edge of the teleportation spell that would activate when exposed to sunlight. "Sir?" asked the young soldier.
"It seems Sasakibe was successful in finding me the assistance we need, but they are apparently a queer lot." Yamamoto rumbled, thinking. "There is a teleportation spell- How close did you say the Advance was?"
"Not more than a week out, sir."
"Hopefully less than two hours then." he grunted, standing up and carrying the scroll to the courtyard of the building he operated from- it was a place used to the many comings and goings of a large and complex organization, though the little Shrine to the God of Messages and messengers had been somewhat neglected of late. Yamamoto took a moment to sweep the leaves out of the shrine and bowed to the statue within, thanking it for delivering Sasakibe's message and asking for help delivering him to his friend.
"Any orders while you're away, Sir?" The soldier asked.
"Someone clean out that shrine and make it a proper offering. The last thing we need is for communications to go down." The General nodded.
"Yes Sir!" the soldier saluted.
Yamamoto unfurled the scroll and with a flash, vanished from the courtyard.

With the same flash, he appeared somewhere... foggy.
"Shigekuni?" a familiarly crisp voice asked somewhere in the ether.
"Chojiro?" Yamamoto called back, and the vague shape that might have been a rock in front of him stood up, arms open. He laughed, and embraced his friend. "Good job! How did you find them so fast?"
Sasakibe's warm smile suddenly stiffened into a grimace. "...Promise you will not be angry?"
"Chojiro?" Yamamoto frowned.
"See, I was asking my friends- only the most trusted of them, I swear- how to even go about finding warriors with everything scattered to the wind of late, and well- One of them suggested that only things that are powerful are widely feared, so look where fearsome things are to find powerful ones."
Yamamoto squinted at his friend, then around them at the dense fog, the strange rocky cliff beside them, and the distant sound of angry voices.
"Chojiro." Yamamoto asked, hands on his shoulders. "Where are we?"
Sasakibe pointed up behind Yamamoto where characters had been carved into the stone cliff.
The Nest Of Maggots
"Chojiro."
"Yes, sir?"
"This is a prison."
"Yes, sir."
"This is a prison for the kind of filth that even the most bitterly factious clans agree is a danger to have wandering around. The kind that they already tried and failed to weaponize against each other. This is a prison for Monsters."
"...Yes, sir." Sasakibe sighed. "-But, is is not monsters we need?"
Yamamoto was silent for a time, thinking of the swathes of pointless destruction- salted fields and burnt villages- of the senseless loss of life- slaughtering soldier and civilian alike down to the last man, woman and child- of the cruel and twisted powers of the chosen favorites of Yhwach.
"Monsters to fight monsters." He shook his head. "What is this world coming to?" Yamamoto sighed.
Sasakibe looked away, unable to meet his friend's gaze. "Still, beggars can't be choosers." Yamamoto nodded. "Show them to me."
--- All twelve "Most Dangerous" of The Nest's prisoners had been herded together into something approximating a straight line in the middle of the rocky cavern that housed the prisoners here, though some of them were already beginning to meander, and one woman near the end of the line had, rather rudely, decided to remain seated in Yamamoto's presence. The lineup was... less than impressive. Two of the women looked like they belonged on pinup posters rather than death row. One of the men looked like a washed-up Sumo, another like an ashtray that had been cursed to roam the afterlife as a human. On one end of the line was an ancient and decrepit old man, and on the other was a- Yamamoto wasn't actually sure if they were a man or a woman, but in another life, they had definitely been a cat.
"These are the most powerful fighters in the Spirit World?"  He muttered to Chojiro.
"These are the most still-alive-est fighters in the Spirit World." Chojiro clarified.
"...Fuck it. " Yamamoto sighed under his breath, before stepping forward and addressing them properly.
"I am General Shigekuni Yamamoto of The Seireitei. I don't know how long you've been in this hole-" Yamamoto paused, sensing that something was off.
None of the Prisoners were looking at him. In fact, the all seemed very dedicated to looking everywhere but at him. Some were inspecting the stalactites, others were examining the grit on the cave floor, or staring into the metaphysical abyss somewhere just over his shoulder, and one man had pulled his very silly straw hat down in front of his face.
"-Alright, what the hell is going on?" Yamamoto growled.
There was a general unenthusiastic sort of shuffling and a distinct lack of answers.
"Remember everyone!" The man next to the cat-in-human-form spoke up while examining his fingernails. He looked more like an accountant than someone who belonged on Death Row, but the others perked up and paid attention. "-We are not to speak to any guards of visitors until our representative arrives and has given us permission to do so." The others nodded and resumed looking anywhere but at Yamamoto.
"...Representative?" Sasakibe lightly growled at a guard, whose complexion went from 'ashen' to 'deathly'.
"They um. Well. They've gotten rather close to one of the other prisoners, but she's no good in a fight, so we left her-" The Guard sputtered under Sasakibe's withering glare.
"-Miss Tsubaki was waiting at the Primary gate last I saw her." continued the man who looked like an accountant and that Yamamoto was becoming increasingly sure was armed, despite allegedly having been searched and denied any tools in his confinement. "...I say to no-one in particular." He added.
There was a moment of silence.
Yamamoto struck the tired-looking, gray-haired young woman beside the accountant, sending her stumbling back, but the accountant and the sturdily-built blonde man beside her stepped in to catch her, the rest of the line snapping to attention, eyes fixed on him with utter rage.
"Now that I have your attention-" Yamamoto started again, the gray-haired woman coughing as the sturdy blonde helped her back to her feet. "-As I was saying, the Spirit World is being invaded, and you're all being conscripted to-"
"Yachiru!" Snapped a young woman behind them.
Yamamoto turned to glare at the interloper, but instead found that the gaunt-looking woman that had remained seated had somehow apparently teleported and tackled Sasakibe to the wall behind them, one arm pressed to his throat, slowly choking him. Apparently-Yachiru's other hand had put some substantial holes in his abdomen and she paused from where she was about to stark licking Sasakibe's blood off her fingers to look at who had spoken.
"Don't eat that! You don't know where it's been!" Said a waifish young woman in threadbare prisoner's robes who could not have been taller than 4'10". She was quite striking, with large, dark eyes, sharp cheekbones, and a long aquiline nose. She took Yachiru's bloodied hand and dragged her back to the group. Yamamoto tried to keep his pace even as he walked over to check on Sasakibe, who immediately sat up and waved him off.
"...Thirsty." Grunted Yachiru- She might also have been beautiful, with her pale, round face and smooth black hair, were it not for the haunted, carnivorous look in her eye and her apparently literal bloodthirst. She stopped halfway back to the group to give a wet, hacking cough that made Yamamoto's skin crawl, and spat out a gob of bloody phlegm on the floor.
"You'll feel better when you get Minazuki back." the young woman reassured her, helping Yachiru sit back down, the others taking seats on the stone floor as well, in two neat lines behind her, the Human Cat behind one shoulder, the Accountant behind the other. "Is everyone else alright?"
"Kinroku definitely did not tell the guards to go get you." announced the man from behind his straw hat. "Also the mean old man hit Chigiri."
"I understand. Do you need assistance, Chigiri?
"The Old Goat has a sucker-punch like a rocket but I'll live." grunted Chigri, rubbing her abdomen and waving her hand interrogatively at Yachiru, who shrugged in reply.
"Despicable Behavior, hitting a medic." the human ashtray sniffed disapprovingly. Yamamoto could feel the Reiatsu of the group now, previously held in check, now starting to unfurl and growl and snarl at him.
"You BASTARDS-!" Yamamoto snarled, lunging towards the young woman, who instinctively made a fist in front of her chest, grabbed it with her other hand, and swung her whole body around, slamming her elbow into his eye socket and nose, and he stumbled, falling to his knees. It wasn't that hard a hit, not compared to what he was used to, but there was genuine killing intent behind it, much like the heel she struck into the side of his head, knocking him over the rest of the way in surprise. Miss Tsubaki's large, dark eyes were full of rage as she glared down at him, grinding his head into the floor under her toes. "Ah." He said, finally recognizing her from images in the intermittent news bulletins. Tsubaki was a middle daughter of one of the most powerful of the Noble Houses who had suddenly vanished from public view the year before. The rumor was that she had been imprisoned by her father for dangerous activities like 'Going Places' and 'Writing Letters' or even 'Having Opinions'. It was apparently true, but if she'd managed to organize the dirtiest dozen of the Maggot's Nest, he was beginning to understand her father's choice of internment. "Miss Tsunayashiro, I presume."
"I am her, and I am here in my capacity as their Union Representative. This means you do not talk to them. You talk to me." She lightly snarled, removing her surprisingly sharp-heeled foot from his temple and sitting seiza in front of the group. "Now what is it that you have brought us here to discuss?"
"Your friends are getting conscripted." he glared, slowly getting up and standing to address her. Returning the blow to a civilan, no matter who her family was or how hard she hit, was beneath either of their dignity, but a little looming was alright.
"We're getting hired." She corrected him. "With proper contracts and compensation."
"Shut up or else." He snarled, reconsidering the value of his dignity.
"...Or else what, exactly?" She asked.
Yamamoto bristled, and slowly drew his sword. Tsunayashiro's gaze flicked to the blade, following it's gleam as he brought it up to her throat, tipping her chin up with the point. "-Or you will all die right here." Tsubaki closed her eyes, sighed deeply and opened them again, gaze fixed on his. He could feel her pulse through Ryujin Jakka's blade.
...Steady as a rock.
"Alright." She spoke evenly. "Strike me down."
Yamamoto blinked.
"We are already on Death Row, General." She explained slowly as though speaking to an idiot. "None of us have families to speak of, or to speak to, for you to threaten. We're already cold and barely allowed to sleep and starving and in constant pain from broken bones or missing organs or untreated injuries. We are all already doomed to die or suffer gross abasement. You, however-"
She slowly stood up, neck sliding a bit on Ryujin Jakka's blade, drawing a trickle of blood.
"-I've been in here for the better part of a year, I believe, but news trickles in. Guards leave to replace soldiers fallen on the battlefield. Rations dwindle as farmland is overrun or destroyed. Political prisoners are freed and returned home as more popular heirs and scions are killed. You, General Shigekuini Yamamoto, need help with this war, and need it badly, to come here for it." Tsubaki continued, stepping forward and pressing a bit more into the blade, the trickle running more strongly, down her throat and into the folds of her thin Yukakta, staining the fabric bright red.
"So go on. Strike us down." She spoke softly. "Spare us the Humiliation of a Public execution or the horrors of a lobotomy, and doom yourself."
Yamamoto, quite possibly for the first time in his life, hesitated.
"If you cannot do that, sit down and negotiate like a civilized person." She said. The blood stained her entire breast now, but she did not flinch or waver.
Slowly, glaring and refusing to break eye contact, he withdrew his blade, wiped it down and sheathed it. Teeth gritted and heart unexpectedly racing, he sat. Lady Tsunayashiro followed, head still held high, though that may have been so Chigiri could lean forward and press a pad of torn robe to her throat, stemming the bleeding as she bandaged it, muttering curses.
"We're being invaded by an army of mutant humans called "Quincy" who can shoot arrows made of pure reishi, which can obliterate a soul entirely. They're lead by some monster called Yhwach, who seems hell-bent on conquering the entirety of the Living and Spirit worlds, and is apparently capable of killing small gods and Kami." Yamamoto explained, trying to stress the depth of the situation. He'd never been in a labor negotiation before, and was hoping they'd be more reasonable if he made an emotional appeal. "Kill enough of the archery bastards and live, and I'll have all your crimes pardoned."
"What a shame, what a shame." clucked the old man at the far end of the lines. "You young people just don't know how to handle things..."
"Hmmm..." The person who was definitely at least spiritually a cat pursed their lips. "Oh, uh- Chika Shihon." the bowed their head. "-It's a good start, but I'm gonna need a hell of a payday, seeing as nobody will hire an ex-criminal, even a pardoned one, and about forty more people need to die before my family will consider taking me back in."
"As well as some form of protection from political reprisals, or there won't be an opportunity to spend any of that payday." said Kinroku the Accountant, rubbing his nose like he was going to push up a pair of glasses he wasn't wearing.
"Paying criminals? Surely, you can't be serious!" Sasakibe scoffed.
"I am serious, and my name is Tsubaki, not Shirley." The representative quietly smirked at him. "Well, General? What price are you willing to offer for the salvation of all of Soul Society?"
"I want to see some proof before we talk price." Yamamoto glared at the Death Row From The Dumpster before him.
"Fair enough." Nodded Tsubaki, turning her head to address the group. "After me, who would you all say is the weakest fighter?"
The group considered this for a moment.
"Strongest is easy, its Yachiru, even with the missing lung." waved the pinup girl with the eyepatch and pigtails.
"Give Uhin some credit!" Protested the other pinup girl with the tits that were individually larger than her head.
"That's sweet of you to say Batsu-" Uhin the Giant in the back row laughed, patting the second girl's head. "-But also holy shit, no. Yachiru could disembowel me and strangle me with my own intestines before I could get off the mark! No offense little man, but I think it's Furuoki." He said, patting the straw hat of the man in front of him.
"Really?" Tits McGee pondered. "I was going to say Nobutsuna."
"I was gonna say me too." announced the human ashtray with a rough and reedy voice. "I hate fighting." "Yeah, but you hit like a fuckin' rockslide. Yeah, it's Furuoki." Agreed eyepatch.
"Mr. Otogawa-" Tsubaki addressed Furuoki the hat man. "-It's rather dark in here, would you please let in some light?"
Furuoki blinked at her, confused.
"Show the old man you can punch a hole in the ceiling." Yachiru translated for him, wetly.
"Okay!" Furuoki chirped happily, getting up and walking a few feet away.
"MORE!" yelled the group.
"Over by the guard tower!" Encouraged the large and rather jolly looking man, save for how he seemed to have lost both his lips and most of the front of his mouth, but had only bothered to replace his missing teeth with gold ones, giving him a permanent lipless grin.
Furuoki walked over towards the guard tower until the guards approached him and told him to back up, paced a bit until he found a suitable middle ground, and squinted up at the ceiling.
"Sir-" Sighed the head guard walking towards Furuoki as frowned at the ceiling. "Sir that's half a mile of solid rock and twelve different magical wards above you. It's not gonna work."
Furuoki instead dropped down on one knee, aimed, and-
A dazzling blue-green light and a noise like the roaring fires of Hell Itself erupted from his fist as he punched up towards the ceiling, vaporizing the stone above him and making all 12 wards chime and tinkle like glass as he broke through them. As the mushroom cloud of dust dispersed, sunlight began to filter in through the hole, at least 100 feet in diameter. The top third of the Guard tower seemed to have evaporated as well, and the guards were scrambling to try to control the panic.
"Is that enough?" Furuoki called.
"...Is it, General?" miss Tsubaki asked.
"...Ten Thousand Kan?" Yamamoto tried.
"That's fine dear, please come sit back down." Tsubaki waved.
"I am surprised, general." She smiled at Yamamoto in a way that reminded him uncomfortably of they way the post office cat would smile at the mice. "Ten Thousand Kan annually per individual is a very reasonable offer."
"A one-time payment of Ten thousand Kan to be split between the group." he growled.
"No." She shook he head. "You're offering us annual salaries, individually."
"The hell I am."
"Then we will enjoy watching the collapse of civilization through the new Skylight Furuoki made us." She replied, unconcerned. "You may have noticed, General, that there is a war on, and this is an exceptionally safe and secure place to be. Make it worth leaving."
"-Two minutes ago this was a frozen hellhole you were all starving in." he glared.
"Ah, but the view and property value has improved substantially in the last two minutes!" She smiled, unconcerned with his complaints. "There is no punishment you could mete out that is worse than remaining here, General, but you are not an advancing army of superhuman mutants, and there are MANY things the Quincy can do to us that are worse than remaining here. You are in a most unenviable position."
Yamamoto grimaced. "You're sure this is the best there is?" he muttered to Sasakibe.
"We could also try swearing loyalty to one noble house and hoping the other four don't try to kill us before the Quincy do." Sasakibe grunted, hand over the puncture wounds in his guts. "I don't like it either. but I like our other options even less."
Yamamoto sighed. "...Five thousand Kan Annually per individual."
"Ten thousand." replied Tsubaki.
"Seven thousand."
"Ten thousand."
"That's not how this is supposed to go." Yamamoto grumbled.
"And yet, this is how it's going." She smirked. "There is also the matter of the political protections!"
"DAMMIT!"

Half an hour later, terms had been reached.
Full pardons, Ten Thousand Kan, annually per individual (plus expenses), and political protections in the form of employing them as commanding officers on the condition that they "-Don't get killed, and prove you're smarter than a sack of hammers and at least half as useful."
"No for real, I'll forgive the old man the gut punch, lemme do something so you're not bleedin' all over my contract?" Chigiri sighed, watching Sasakibe write up the contracts.
"I'll trust my body to keep my guts on the right side of my skin over someone's dirty socks." he sighed. "Or do you have something else on hand?"
"Minazuki." Muttered Yachiru, leaning heavily on Chigiri.
"Oh right! I keep forgetting she does the fish thing." Chigiri perked up. "Yeah tell the guards to go get her sword, it turns into a... fuckin' whatsit, the big flat fish? Turns into one of those that can heal anything."
"Again, I trust my own faculties over any sort of Healing Halibut." Chojiro groaned.
"Stingray." Yachiru muttered, wheezing a bit. "Minazuki is a stingray."
"Alright, back in line everyone- I need you all to confirm your identities and what crimes you need pardoned, and to sign your contracts." Sasakibe sighed, standing up with the contracts and handing the first to Yamamoto.
"Shigekuni Yamamoto, Dereliction of duty and Mail-tampering, among other assorted sins." He said, smirking a bit at his own joke as he took the contract.
"Thank you sir." Sasakibe sighed, shuffling the pile of folders containing the files of the dozen criminals, and stepping up to the first one.
"Chika Shihon-" He read off, matching the drawn portrait to the person in front of him- Chika was a rather handsome young thing, with warm bronze skin and short, soft white hair. It was the gleam in their yellow eyes that made Sasakibe worry. "- Sentenced to lifetime imprisonment or death for staging a clan coup, twelve counts of fratricide and... dabbling in forbidden Kido?"
"Oh, like you've never had a family dinner that got out of control!" Chika huffed, indignant.
"I'm more curious about the Kido, actually." Yamamoto said, peering over his file.
Chika beamed and Sasakibe got as far as a choked "NOT HERE-!" before they vanished in a cloud of smoke. When it cleared, they were still wearing the same excited expression, but now as a small white house cat.
Sasakibe and Yamamoto stared at the cat for a moment, then at each other in a mutual expression of I can't believe we've been reduced to asking these freaks for help.
"Well, when you've got thumbs again, please read your contract, then sign and initial all the indicated areas, and swipe your blood across the bottom." Sasakibe sighed, bending over to hand the kitty their contract. "Remember, these contracts are legally and magically binding. Betray us, and die immediately."
"Next is- Kinroku Izuhara-" Sasakibe was interrupted by one of guards appearing with the confiscated personal belongings of the prisoners, including an entire bundle of swords under his arm.
"I understand not giving us our weapons until the contracts are signed and the seal is placed upon us, but may I have my glasses back?" Kinroku asked, voice crisp and arch. He was certainly the least ragged-looking of the group, his graying hair still neatly trimmed and face clean-shaven.
Yamamoto held out a hand and the guard placed the appropriate glasses in his palm. "Trade you for whatever you have that's kept you so clean-shaven it's making my mustache itch." Yamamoto glared.
Kinroku smirked, and produced a piece of bone that had been exquisitely sharpened into a razor's edge.
"This is a human bone." Yamamoto observed.
"Unfortunately, poorer quality than the bones of pigs or cattle in terms of holding an edge, but it's done it's job." Kinrku nodded.
"...This says you're on death row for ...Tax Evasion?" Sasakibe glared at the file as the blade was traded for the glasses.
"Yes. I made an unfortunate miscalculation regarding the loyalty of my men, so I am glad you are taking adequate precautions." Kinroku muttered, cleaning his glasses on his robe, holding them up to the dim sunlight filtering through the hole, and frowning, disappointed.
"Men?" Yamamoto asked. "You've had experience commanding armed forces before?"
"After a fashion." he said, signing the contract and biting into his thumb to finish the deal. "You've heard of The Vipers of the southern reaches?"
"The decentralized bandit gang that disbanded a few years back? I thought their leader had died?" Sasakibe frowned.
Kinroku smirked at him.
"...Oh, for fuckssake." Sasakibe groaned.
"Chigiri Shijima." Yamamoto read off, having already moved on. "...What the hell kind of charge is Aggravated Medical Research?"
"Can't make an emergency field medicine manual omlette without breaking a few bones. And causing a few disembowelments. And poking out a few eyes." She explained.
Yamamoto slowly arched an eyebrow at her.
"I PUT 'EM ALL BACK!" Chigiri protested. "...Eventually."
"Read. Sign. Blood." Yamamoto sighed, handing her the contract.
"For real though, your man okay? I can have those stitched in under a minute." Chigiri pointed her thumb at Sasakibe.
"That's some fast-acting painkillers." Sasakibe noted.
"What painkillers?" Chigiri asked, genuinely confused.
"...I'll take my chances with the halibut." Sasakibe winced, turning to the next man in line. "Danjiro Obana?"
"Yeah!" Grinned the sturdy-looking blonde man, all smiles and friendliness now that an agreement had been reached. "Lookin' forward to workin' with you guys!"
"...Imprisoned for cannibalism?" Sasakibe asked, horrified.
"IT WAS AN ACCIDENT!" Danjiro hollered, voice echoing around the cavern.
"How do you accidentally consume human flesh?" Yamamoto glared.
"Well- okay it wasn't an 'accident' per se, but look, that Ise Clan guy locked me in the family mausoleum to die, and understandably, I got the munches, and the coffins were fulla, eh... post-sapient jerky?" Danjiro explained. "I really don't know what he expected to happen. Really surprised when he opened up the door a month later and I gut punched his spine out though. I don't regret that one bit."
"You know? That's fair." decided Sasakibe, handing him a contract. "Read, sign, blood."
"Yessir!" Danjiro saluted happily.
"Furufoshi Saito?" Yamamoto asked the young woman with the purple pigtails and eyepatch that was next in line.
"I DID NOT 'KIDNAP' HIM, HE'S MY HUSBAND AND THEY'RE ALL A BUNCH OF PRICKS!" She roared.
Yamamoto blinked at her, then leaned over to read "Accused of Abducting and 'Deflowering' the eldest son of the Kuchiki clan' on her file. "...Care to elaborate on that?"
"I found poor Kyoga-kun half-dead on my doortstep after the battle of River Bo- he still had spears in him, the poor thing! So like a sane and reasonable person I took him in and nursed the sweet thing back to heath and- well, a beautiful man in my bed, grateful to me for saving his life and offering me his eternal love and gratitude- How could a girl resist?" She sighed, hearts in her remaining eye.
"-and since I'd carried him over the threshold into my home we were basically married already, so it wasn't wrong of me to ride him like a pony or violate his warranty like that! He loved it! He loves ME! AND I LOVE HIM! It's just that the rest of the Kuchiki clan are a bunch of snobs with no sense of romance." She sighed, melancholy, then looked up at him, chewing her lip in nervousness. "...You haven't. heard anything about him?"
Yamamoto considered her story, and the few times he'd met Kyoga Kuchiki- a delicate young man with a sense of romantic grandeur and when he'd seen the boy recently, he had been lying facedown on the floor and sobbing, in quite some distress over being separated from his beloved-
"...Daddy Bear?" Yamamoto asked, bewildered.
"MY LITTLE BABY BEAR REMEMBERS ME!" She shrieked with joy, "Is he alright? I've been so worried, he still wasn't over that septic infection and the war keeps getting closer-" She demanded, grabbing Yamamoto by his Kosode and shaking him for answers.
"-As of last month, he was distraught over your absence, but otherwise hale. The sooner the Quincy are dead, the sooner you can see him again. Read, sign, blood." Yamamoto said, detangling himself from her and putting the contract between them.
"Ah, Ever-turbulent but true runs the course of Love." sighed the charred man beside her. "Nobotsuna Shigyo, at your service." he introduced himself, bowing politely.
"I'm Batsu'unsai Katori- We were arrested and imprisoned for roughly the same incident and it may help to be introduced at the same time." Said the woman with the exceptionally large breasts beside him. "Um, I'll need my glasses back too- Oh, thank you!"
"The sight of sunlight is so strange after such time." Mused Nobotsuna. "Even before our imprisonment, the Lady Katori and I were leaders of a secret underground society!"
"It was less of a society and more of a Polycule that got out of control-" Explained Batsu'unsai. "Once I discovered by spiritual powers, I moved in with the great sage Shou Dokutsu, and began hanging out with and then dating other people with spiritual powers and they started bringing their partners to my district and pretty soon there were so many of us that the easiest way to house everyone was to start developing the extensive underground cave systems in the area."
"We manufactured many fine magical artifacts, so called ourselves The Under-Wares!" Said Nobotsuna.
"We actually called ourselves The Kido Union, because in addition to the magical tools, we formed a united labor front to keep the clans from exploiting us." She explained, and Yamamoto began to understand her interruption.
"I am the wise Loremaster of our people!" Said Nobutsuna.
"He's a stablehand." Batsu'unsai smiled.
"But the clans did not like that they were no longer able to exploit and abuse us now that we had allied in great numbers, and war came to our peaceful nation of Shou's Hole!" he said, with genuine sadness.
Yamamoto and Sasakibe looked back at Batsu'unsai.
"It actually is called Shou's Hole." she sighed. "He just wanted it so badly."
"I wore them down!" Notbotsuna grinned.
"Still, the clans did not like that they now had to pay to have magical labor done and that we would outright refuse their more barbaric requests, and eventually I think it was the Shibas that mounted an all-out assault on us. Last I heard, most of the Union made it out through the other exits from the caves, but Dokutsu-san and most of our heavy hitters stayed at the primary entrance to buy time. Nobotsuna and I were the only ones to survive the assault, and Hiraku Shiba had us thrown in here." Batsu'unsai sighed.
"Prick." Spat Nobotsuna. "Oh sure, when a head of one of the so-called 'Noble' houses goes around decapitating people and burning them alive it's considered 'honorable combat' and 'keeping the peace', but when I, a man whose family tree isn't a fucking wreath of incest, retaliates in a decidedly less lethal fashion suddenly its 'treason' and 'making up a spell called Penis Blast is a war crime'!!"
"-What kind of blast?" asked Sasakibe.
"He can demonstrate it for us on The Archery Bastards. Read, sign, blood." Yamamoto said, thrusting contracts at them.
"Entetsu Kumoi." Read off Sasakibe as they came to the bald man who was nearly as wide as he was tall, with the exposed gold teeth. Entetsu looked up from where he'd finished putting his glasses back on and arranged his hairless brows into something that indicated that he'd be smiling politely if he had lips. "Imprisoned for your participation in the riot at the Windroad House, where you..." Sasakibe frowned at the file. "-Attacked and killed one hudred fifty-seven town guards with a brick, and mounted an assault on the local Dyamo?"
"Always morally correct, hittin' cops with bricks." Nodded Entetsu. "-Specially ones comin' t' kill just because some people are out havin' a good time, doin' no harm to no-one."
"The Windroad House is a Bar in the 3rd district famous for it's ah. Exotic. Cabaret performances." Sasakibe explained to Yamamoto, who didn't get out much.
"You were. At one of these performances?' Yamamoto asked.
"Ah, nah- just gotten off the job and had nipped down to the pub across th'way for a pint when I saw the pigs kick in the door an' start dragggin' the ladies out and I thought 'well that ain't right', so I started throwin' bricks until I were on me last brick and then I hunted them down wit' that last brick until there were none left." he explained. "Then I thinks, 'well, there's only none left until more come from the station', so's I made me way up the road to the station wit' me brick and had me a little hogslaughter up there too, see?"
"...And you just. kept going?" Sasakiba asked.
"So's I did! Right up to the head hog's trough, though by then it were well early in the mornin' and I were tired an' had some dozen spears in me back and me brick had fallen apart, so's I dinna get hims haunches fer ham." Entetsu sighed.
"Persistence! Very good quality in a captain!" Grinned Yamamoto, handing him the contract. "You know what to do by now."
They turned to the rather comely young man with the straw hat. "Furuoki, was it?" Yamamoto asked, feeling something that wasn't hopeful, per se, but these were strong people, and deeply insane and they were agreeing to help him, something that made his heart race with a delirious sort of mania.
"Yes. I am Furuoki Otogawa." he nodded.
"-And you're imprisoned here for- ecological terrorism, defiling holy a holy site and creating a dangerous magical device?" Sasakibe asked.
"What?" asked Yachiru, getting back to her feet and leaning heavily on him. "You told me you were in here for Jaywalking?"
"I thought I was?" Said Furuoki, frowning and tipping his head with confusion.
"It says here you constructed a device over the Tenjo no Ganbo waterfalls to, ah- 'suck up the carp in the pool at the base of the waterfall and launch them, at speed, up and over the waterfall'." Sasakibe read off and looked up to see Furuoki staring into the distance, eyes watering.
"They wanted to get to the lake at the top so badly they were swimming up the waterfall, but they kept falling down and getting hurt!" he sobbed, overcome with emotion. "I just made a chute to safely carry them to the top and gently toss them in the lake! how is that a crime?"
"-because when a carp makes it to the top of Tenjo no Ganbo falls, IT TURNS INTO A DRAGON! YOU MADE HUNDREDS OF DRAGONS SUDDENLY APPEAR! THOUSANDS BEFORE THEY COULD DISMANTLE THE DAMN THING!!" Sasakibe shouted.
"Ohhh." Furuoki said, nodding. "-I'd wondered where all the dragons had come from. I still don't see why that's a crime though?"
"Gods help us." Groaned Yamamoto.
"Dragons tend to be. Kinda destructive." Yachiru spoke slowly, her voice still rough and hollow-sounding. " 'specially to little villages."
"Oh." Furuoki said quietly, horrified.
"Don't worry, I'll deal with them once I get my lung back and bust outta this joint." Yachiru reassured him as Sasakibe handed Furuoki his contract.
"You wont be 'busting out' of anywhere, miss-" Sasakibe suffled the papers to open her file. "-Yachiru Unohana! You're obligated to serve General Yamamoto in exchange for your freedom, seeing as you're imprisoned for- for-"
Sasakibe froze, staring at the file. "-That has to be a Mistake."
"What?" Grunted Yamamoto, sizing the woman up. According to the group, if Furuoki who could rip this heavily fortified prison open like an ant's nest was their weakest fighter, this sickly-looking woman was their strongest.
"The file says she's imprisoned for killing ten thousand people!" babbled Sasakibe.
"Oh, no, that isn't right." grunted Yachiru, and Sasakibe sighed with relief.
"-Should be closer to twelve or fifteen thousand." She clarified, and Sasakibe went white.
"Read, sign, mark with your blood at the bottom." Yamamoto sighed, thrusting the contract at her.
"Uhhh... can't." She said, staring blankly at the contract, then slowly looking up at Yamamoto.
"What do you mean 'can't'?"  he growled.
"I can't read." she said.
Sasakibe hid his face in his hands, groaning with pain, while Yamamoto turned on his heel and threw his hands in the air, silently beseeching any available Gods for help.
"You get what you pay for, General." Called Chika, having changed back into the clothes they'd arrived in- garish red-orange and black ninja garb of the Shihon clan- and tying their sword back onto their gaudy belt.
"I am paying all of you a frankly OBSCENE amount of money, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect basic literacy!" Yamamoto snapped.
"It's okay girl, I'll read it to you and then you can have Minazuki back, okay?" Chigiri volunteered, wrapping an arm around her illiterate compatriot and walking her back to some seat-height rocks.
"Let's just get this over with." Yamamoto sighed, glaring at Tsubaki, who only smiled serenely back at him. "Uhin Zenjoji?"
"Present, sir." Beamed the enormous man who looked like a professional Sumo wrestler- there was fat, lots of it, but underneath, an unsettlingly steady grace and power to his movements.
"Your file says you're imprisoned for Smuggling, Murder, Bootlegging, Murder, Trafficking, Murder, More murder and... one hundred seventy two violations of The Migratory Bird Act?"
"The only two I will dispute are the trafficking and migratory bird charges-" he said, delicately holding up two fingers. "-firstly, it's not trafficking to move refugees from the clan wars out of danger without giving the aforementioned clans a cut. I'm no pimp."
"And the birds?" Yamamoto glared, intrigued more than anything.
"A man may have his hobbies and his charitable works!" Uhin said, touching his hand to his chest in faux-impassioned speech. "I collect and breed rare and endangered birds- the world would a sadder place without their songs. So I have- well, had- an aviary up in the mountains where they could be propagated in peace." Uhin sighed.
"Huh. Something nearly bordering on sanity." said Sasakibe said, offering Uhin his contract.
"Got any of them- whatsit- the big kicky bitches?" Danjiro asked.
"Cassowaries?" Uhin asked. "But of course! Delightful little creatures."
Yamamoto decided he didn't hear that, actually, and turned his attention to the final member of the dirty dozen.
"Hello young man!" the decrepit old man creaked cheerfully. "I am Saizo Sakahone." he was bald, liver-spotted, missing teeth and had a spine that bowed like a fishing rod with something much too large for the boat on the end of the line.
"Sakahone like the province?" asked Yamamoto, remembering the western area he'd traveled through recently.
"...In a manner of speaking, I suppose?" Saizo grinned. "Though it's rather the other way around- my lovely wife, may she rest in peace, managed to bear me no less than sixteen beautiful daughters, and they bore at least a dozen granddaughters and so on- Why, by my one thousand one hundred and eleventy-eth birthday, I had somewhere over fifty thousand descendants! So I am not so much named after the province, as the province is named after me!" he chucked.
"...by the Gods." marveled Sasakibe.
"Look, I love my sword too but at least I take it out of the scabbard sometimes." sighed Yamamoto. "What're you in for, family man?"
"O-ho! Now that was quite rash of me, I'm afraid. Yes-" Saizo nodded, rubbing his gnarled-oak hands. "-but as you say, I am a family man and there is nothing I despise so much as someone who does violence to children. No, no, nothing more vile in the world than that..."
Yamamoto felt Sasakibe go stiff beside him, and glanced over. Sasakibe tipped the file closer for his friend to read.
"-The total annihilation of the Uchimaki clan?" Yamamoto asked.
"I was born a shepherd, my boy. My people have been herding cattle over the hills of my province since there were cattle and hills to herd them over. When rot and madness like that turns up in a line- you need to cull backwards at least three generations or it'll set root and spread through your whole herd." he sighed. "What a shame, what a shame, but it had to be done, or they would have learned to turn a profit, treating children like that, and then we'd never be rid of it."
"I saw the crater. Half a mile deep and three times as wide." Said Yamamoto, mustache trembling. "I thought the wrath of the Gods themselves had descended upon them."
"Hm." Saizo nodded, jaw trembling a bit with palsy. "Hm, yes. That's what it felt like."
"Would you like to feel it again?" Yamamoto asked.
"No." Saizo shook his head, but slowly straightened up as much as he could- he must have been close to seven feet tall before the scoliosis set in- flexing his hands and rolling his neck, the power held withing that body starting to come off him in shimmering golden steam. "-but if that's what it takes for me to go home again, then I will be the tool of the Gods once more."
Yamamoto offered him the contract, and did not need to give him instructions.
Behind them, there was a quiet but extremely invasive wet noise and Yamamoto turned to see Unohana unsheath her... well, it lived in a scabbard but it was a muddy green and unusually gooey for a sword. Minazuki bubbled forth from her scabbard, trilling faintly as she solidified and formed into a mottled green cyclopean stingray, large enough to swallow a man, nuzzling at her human affectionately.
"Huh. She does seem to have an exceptionally intimate bond with her Zanpaktou..." Sasakibe noted, then flinched as Minazuki's mouth opened to reveal a fleshy interior of writhing tentacles and strange glands. Without hesitation, Unohana shed her prisoner's robe, which was apparently the and stepped inside to be swallowed with a sigh of relief.
"Very intimate!" grinned Chigiri at Sasakibe's shoulder. "My offer to stitch you up is still on the table, unless you want to develop a similarly intimate relationship with a fish."
"Never did care for seafood..." Sasakibe muttered.
"What about Tsubaki-san?" Furofushi frowned. "Where's her contract?"
"I came here for fighters." Yamamoto shook his head, turning to Tsubaki. "But you are right that The Maggot's Nest is a secure fortress in it's own right. The war is no place for a pri-"
He stopped, staring. Tsubaki had sat down and was rubbing her feet, fingers laced between her toes. She glanced up at him, then down at her feet, smirked, and sat back, wiggling her toes. "No, I agree, the front is no place for a Princess, but it is very much a place for a Diplomat, isn't it?" she asked.
Yamamoto blinked. "I have been thoroughly disinherited from any political position I may have inherited, so I am no princess." She explained, rolling her ankle with a smirk. "-and you are, if I may make an estimation based on my training as a Lady Of Society and now that all of our contracts are signed and bonded, terrible at negotiations."
Yamamoto shook himself, trying to pretend he hadn't been staring at her arches. "...I thought it went fine? Nobody lost a hand."
She smiled, and walked up beside him, lacing her arm with his and gently patting his hand. "My dear. If bookies had been allowed to lay bets on this encounter, the odds of me losing my head would have been considered a sure thing, and the odds on my being able to convince you to properly hire us and pay us, I agree, an 'obscene' amount of money so slim that anyone who took my side would now be a very rich idiot."
Yamamoto squinted at her, trying to translate that in his head.
"...You've conned me." He glared.
"Quite badly, I'm afraid." She smiled.
"You've conned me, but you can con say, that idiot that runs the Omeda clan or the obnoxious boy with the cock's comb that follows Yhwach around even worse." He tried.
Miss Tsubaki smiled, and laced her fingers with his.
"I'm going to have someone much smarter than me write up your contract." he nodded. "Sasakibe? Can you get us home in a-"
Yamamoto turned to see his friend, standing with his robe open while Chigiri knelt before him. Yamamoto blinked in bewilderment, and then realized the woman was stitching his wounds up at speed, her face close to his navel to focus on her work.
"...Hurry?" Yamamoto asked.
"Boss if I go any faster I'm gonna sew his bellybutton shut." Chirigi replied, not looking up.
"She is almost done, sir." Sasakibe winced. "Please don't interrupt her work?"
--- It took a good half hour to get everyone together to leave- clothes changed, signed out of the Maggot's nest and their custody turned over to Yamamoto, Nobotsuna trying to smuggle his "pet" Salamander out, several other prisoners saying tearful goodbyes to Tsubaki and her taking their information down 'for later', Minazuki trying to eat the salamander, and further mayhem while Sasakibe finished drawing the teleportation circle but soon they were lined up, and as the spell activated, Tsubaki gripped Yamamoto's arm rather firmly.
But in a flash, they were returned to Headquarters, Tsubaki blinking from the bright sun.
"General!" the soldier saluted. "Good to see you again! No news from the front, but we have received word the Shihon clan has made an alliance with the Fon clan as the advance approaches their homeland."
"HAH!" Shouted Chika. "Either cousin Genki pulled his head out of his ass or whatever cousin they're on now has good taste! Mingyan is a BABE and a half."
"Nice digs, very nice." Nodded Danjiro, looking around the courtyard. "...Looks really familiar for some reason. Never been to Seireitei, but I swear I've been in a building just like this?"
The other criminals looked around the courtyard, frowning and muttering about how it DID look familiar, and not at all like barracks.
There was a distressing hurgling sort of noise behind them and Minazuki spat out Yachiru Unohana, who tumbled out, nude and covered in slime. She rolled to the foot of the shrine, and sat up, blinking at the statue inside.

"You know, I did think it was rather strange that you were able to rally a small but apparently quite fast and very loyal army without the aid of any major clans." Tsubaki sighed. "How very industrious of you, Postmaster-General Yamamoto!"

“Gun- Gun- Gunslinger- Hawk-” The static came in the middle of hysterical laughter. Raucous. Joyful. Pained.
Weaponsfire seared the air. Plasma scorched even the darkest pieces of the midnight alleys. Circuits and bone and artificial memories screamed in the arching shadows like neon. Copper wiring with magnetic spirals as plasma bolts in magnetic remnants spun by them, electricity in the air that coursed along her skin and down her fingertips. Gunshots. Gunshots. Gunshots. It had just rained. The puddles were evaporating. Water and mineral content changing. Not the acid-tinged rain. Not the runoff filled with particulate plastic and rubber. Iron. Blood. It reverberated with the screaming. With the gunfire. Her fingertips scrabbled as the night drowned out her voice, as the one currently fighting couldn’t turn away. There were so many after all. Where had they come from? No evidence on any network. No trace in the silicon. No touch could elevate her senses into finding them in footage or local magnetic effects. But here they were now, and here they were now. Bullets scraped the sheet metal wall as she finally found it. She tore off the access panel, the metal groaning and screaming in time with the combat. Could it be heard over it all? She could certainly feel it. She could feel the echo of it in every sensor even as they focused on tracking every projectile that rocketed by. How could she feel so powerless in all of this? Certainly she wasn’t made for being a combatant but she had some of the best military tech money could buy put into this body, not even speaking on software- No time, no time, milliseconds were screaming by and signals were closing in. Coming closer, gunfire louder, her combatant charge cursing as she fumbled for ammunition. And then it all went black.
Not for her, no. Far from it. For her? The world couldn’t be clearer. Her tail was jammed straight into the junction box. The entire sector’s power supply at her fingertips. Enough voltage to fry any human so insane, enough current to melt any synthetic that could ever hope to imagine. But for her? The mimicked taste of copper and ozone on her body’s sensors only let her know that her laughter had become laced with the high pitched scream of high voltage.  
Fuses blew, breakers popped, lights went dark, machines fell dead, as all in that moment was hers. All in that moment was made to bend to her, to come to her, to feed her. “Gunslinger.” The AM-3S unit spoke. A voice of one, a chorus of more. “Watch.” And the city came to life under the weight of a mind. Pylons roared into brilliant plasma arcs, neon bulbs sparked and exploded, ancient machinery lost beneath the asphalt screamed through the surface. All of it her hands, all of it her fingertips, all of it bleeding her senses and bleeding her life. The datastream of multitudes as network and networked rose in tandem, as circuit and copper and old-world PCB responded to her just as the body of one did. Human-lethal pressure waves, human-lethal temperature, human-lethal particulate as blood and bone vaporized under the renewed life of a mind that had been confined from ten thousand senses down to one. And still the unit stood close to her gunslinger. A smile on its face. The cables trailing behind it still sparking and frying in the junction box. Further and further the blackout spread. And louder and louder the voltage laughed. Drive off these attackers, protect herself, protect this charge, follow her protocols to the letter and she could have it all. She could have her network, this body, her mind and all that it entailed, she could be free of it all and take what she wanted in this cesspool that she had been born into-
Blackout. Cut off. Her tail snapped back into her body, her mind pulled back as a cord which had stretched too far. Face down in the water. Iron percentage: 34%. Correction, as her last thought plugged through her remaining charge. Face down in the blood.

i groaned as i opened my eyes, fluttering them multiple times so i could adjust to the sunlight hitting my face through my window, lighting up my room and painting a beautiful orange-like color onto my walls from the early morning sunrise. i extend my arm out from under the warm comforter, to turn off my blaring alarm. i move to my side to look over at the alarm as it reads, 6:04am.
i sit up, stretching and yawning as i grumble a few breathless words as i place my feet on the cold hardwood flooring of my bedroom.
i quickly shuffle my way to my closet to grab some clothes to change into. considering it’s the middle of august in boston, it’ll most likely be warm today, so i grab a short sleeve plain white t-shirt and light washed baggy denim jeans. also, of course socks, bra, underwear, the good stuff.
today is the first day of my junior year. which means, it’s the first day of senior year for my annoying brother, nathan doe, and the triplets, whom i’ve known since i was at least 5 years old. i’ve grown up with them. i’ve seen them pick their nose, pee in the pool, and scream that girls have cooties into my face. i’ve witnessed them going on dates for the first time and their first sip of alcohol. i’ve seen it all.
nick is my best friend in the whole wide world. hes the one person who knows every single detail about me. when mine and nate’s parents used to get into fights when we were younger, nick was the first one to distract me from it. i’d bring my barbie’s to the triplets house and play with him, while nate played x-box with matt and chris. speaking of those two, im very close with matt. he and i bonded in my freshman year, when i was discovering what having anxiety meant, so was he. we kind of helped each other along the way, ive always viewed him as a second brother. chris on the other hand? not as a brother.
christopher sturniolo. the guy i’ve had the fattest crush on since the age of 10. below that age, i also thought boys had ‘cooties’. until one day, when i was playing tag with chris on the playground in elementary school.
flashback
i was chasing chris down the sidewalk that separated the playground from the grassy area at recess, when i tumbled over and landed on my hands and knees. which caused my knees and palms to be scrapped up. as i stood up, my knees were slightly bleeding, along with my palm. i guess chris heard that i stopped, he hurried over to where i was.
“are you okay?” chris softly asked.
“n-no.” i softly cried.
he gently picks my right hand up, planting a microscopic kiss on the back of it.“here, i’ll take you to a teacher. okay?” he says, slightly holding onto my elbow.
“okay.” i sniffled.
from that moment. i knew. i liked him.
end of flashback
i sigh at the memory as i finish getting dressed.
once im done, i put on a pair of air force 1’s, and make my way to my vanity. i opt on just putting on some mascara and lip gloss, deciding that i dont want to do a full face of makeup today.
i pick up my hairbrush, slowly brushing out any kinks or knots in it. once im done, i walk towards my bathroom, and brush my teeth.
“hey! are you ready? the triplets are on their way!” nate yells from down the hall.
“yeah! almost! give me 3 more minutes!” i yell with a mouth full of mint toothpaste.
once im done in the bathroom, i make my way into my bedroom, picking up my backpack off the floor, and grabbing my phone off the nightstand. almost as soon as i head toward my bedroom door to open it, i hear a faint honking coming from outside.
“are you ready? they’re here.” nate says to me as i walk down the rigid, old stairs of my house.
“yes.” i say as i walk past him, to outside.
i make my way to the minivan in my driveway, as i walk around to open the door behind the passenger seat. as nate and i get into our usual spots. matts always driving of course. chris in the passenger seat, nick in the middle backseat, me sitting behind chris, and nate sitting behind matt. it’s the ‘unspoken seat chart’ we randomly came up with.
“you guys ready for senior year!” chris yells loudly.
“yes. my last year in this hell hole!” nate exclaims.
nick and matt just say ‘yes’ in unison.
“what about you, kid? you ready for junior year?” chris turns around in his seat to ask me.
“kid” how i hate that nickname.
“uh yeah, sure.” i mumble.
“junior year really isn’t that bad. don’t stress to much over it.” nick whispers to me
after 15 minutes of chris’s loud rap songs giving me a blasting headache, we finally arrive at the school. once we walk in, we all split our ways to head to our first period classrooms. this year, i have english, so i make my way there.
once i get into the room, i head to the seat furthest in the back. as soon as i sit down, the bell rings, signaling it’s time for first period to begin.
“good morning everyone. my name is mrs. steven’s, ill be your english teacher for this year. now let’s go over…” mrs. steven’s speaks to the room full of teenagers.
i allow her words to trail off as my brain blocks her voice out. i hate school. how long until summer break again?

that night, you and tommy didn’t speak another word to one another.
for months, the only times you and him would speak would be when of two things. you would speak either about mundane things, like the weather and plans for the evening.
or, when the two of you fucked.
although he had you often, you were sure he was seeing other women, too. by the lipstick stains on his collars in a shade of red you wouldn’t be caught dead wearing and also by the hushed whispering of the maids, feeling pitiful for you.
it killed you, because deep down, behind all the fights and ‘i hates you’s, you loved him. hatable as he is, yes, but you loved the person he was when he wasn’t on his guard, who he was deep down.
but he was always on his guard. there were only a few times you had seen him off of it.
it happened when you were 13. tommy had just turned 15 and a party much like your wedding was thrown for him.
unbeknownst to many, tommy shelby was not a party man. never was, never will be. he was frankly the only person within his hectic family whom possessed that quality.
so, he snuck away from the garrison- where the party was being held- and carefully made his way over to the river bank behind your house.
he didn’t know it was your house, honest. simply, he loved the scenery. he loved the sound of the horses happily trotting in their stables and the sound of the dogs chasing each other around the prairie.
there was no fence separating your backyard to the river, and so one of your dogs made his way to the birthday boy who was dangling his legs just above the stream.
“hey, buddy,” he laughed as your dog snuck up behind him, licking his face and neck. he quickly found himself forever petting frankie and scratching behind his ears, too.
he looked around and behind him, but no owner was to be found. he held frankie in his lap, resting his chin atop frankie’s head.
thomas remained like that for a while, occasionally speaking rhetorically to the dog. “today’s my birthday, you know. they threw me a party, can you believe it? i wish they knew me well enough to know i absolutely loathe parties.”
frankie was soon asleep in tommy’s arms, breathing serenely.
“frankie!” your terrified voice called from a distance behind tommy.
he turned around to see your face relax at the sight of your dog safe and sound.
“i’m sorry, is this your house?” he asked, waving to the house and barn in the close distance.
the sun was setting, and the horizon never looked so beautiful as the waning sunlight shined on your face. that was the moment tommy knew he’d met an angel on earth.
the way your toothy smile shined stupidly as you sighed and nodded, being awfully proud of your home.
“oh, i’m sorry. i’ll go, i didn’t realize i was trespassing. my apologies,”
that had to be the first time you heard of tommy shelby apologizing to another person.
you quickly shook your head. “no, stay. you mind if i sit with you?” you didn’t wait for his answer before plopping right down next to him, your legs being even shorter than his as they dangled next to one another.
he looked at you to see if you were joking or just completely oblivious to who he was. then he laughed, figuring he was in much need of some friendly company.
now, this was before you and tommy had ever met. however, you knew of him, of his notorious reputation of being cruel. you knew what people thought of him, but you wanted to know him. to you, he was just misunderstood, and in dire need of a friend.
you two sat there and talked. minutes turned into hours as you talked and talked until the cicadas sung and the blue hue’d moon began her nightly waltz with the silver stars.
he told you about his birthday disaster and his family, about his love for horses and for knowledge.
he laughed, he argued, he listened, he smiled, and he was happy. really, truly, very, happy.
you didn’t judge him, didn’t hedge or waffle around any subjects in fear of what he might do to you if faced with an opposing opinion. you treated him like a normal person.
“i like you, tommy shelby,” you admitted, the once cool grass beneath you now warm due to your everlasting presence atop the soil.
“i like you too, y/n y/l/n.”
and you met him at the same place everyday after that, just talking. you told him everything about you, all your innermost thoughts and secrets. about your mother and your animals, about your love for history and reading.
and in return, he- eventually- let you know of his vulnerabilities and weaknesses.
from tommy, that was like being gifted the most expensive, purest, most glimmering, block of gold.
his feelings towards you were becoming stronger and stronger each time he returned to the river bank. tommy soon realized he couldn’t be around you anymore.
although he told you most of his weaknesses and such, he never told you of one.
you.
he felt a certain way about you, a feeling he couldn’t shake. he was growing weak, and thomas shelby could not be weak.
- and he wasn’t planning on it, so he just… stopped showing up.
for weeks, you would wait for him at sunset by the stream behind the stables, but he never showed again.
and when you became friends with ada and often visited her home, he would avoid you like the plague. it confused and angered you. how could someone go from so warm to so cold in less than a month?
you gave up on it soon after, figuring you wouldn’t chase after anything that’s running.
as a result, you ignored him just as he ignored you.
up until year 9.
you always wondered what happened, what caused him to become so cold to you when he was just letting you in.
it was too late now to simply ask, so you were left to be forever in the dark.
tommy came home late that night, as he did every night. yet another confirmation of his infidelity.
you sighed to yourself, forcing a semi-smile on your face as you walked out of the drawing room to greet your husband.
“hello, thomas,” you smiled through gritted teeth, trying your hardest to maintain a smile as he scowls at your sudden appearance.
“alright, then. i’ll be reading if you need me, i suppose,” he nodded dismissively at you, and all sense of respect you tried to hold for him, drained in an instant.
your smile dropped and you rolled your eyes with a grimace when you walk away, not even bothering to spare him another glance.
by the time dinner was served, you hadn’t seen tommy once.
you ate alone, as thomas was busy in his office. you sighed after you finished your meal, grabbing a clean dish and fixing tommy a plate.
your heels clacked against the wooden tiles beneath your feet as you made your way to thomas’s office, plate in hand.
you knocked twice, not bothering to wait for his response before walking into the study.
“you missed dinner, thomas,” you placed the food before him on the desk, disregarding the important paperwork and documents you sat it atop.
he sighed, looked down at the plate, then up at you through his gold-rimmed glasses.
“i’m sorry? is that what you want to hear?” he continued working studiously, secretly willing you to leave him alone.
it took everything not to set fire to that desk.
“why’d you come home so late? hm?” you asked softly, but wished to scream.
“there was work that needed to be done,” said tommy nonchalantly.
you laughed. like, genuinely laughed. “huh. work that needed do be done at brothels?”
he looked annoyed, like you were some bothersome pest. “why do you care? you really expect some faithful husband from me? you’re the one who wanted this to be an arrangement,”
you opened your mouth to yell back but realized he was right.
no, this marriage is not one you want. so? was that his fault? it wasn’t, but you so badly wanted it to be, because how could he have stolen your heart then abandon it like breathing? and get away with it?
it was then you realized you were crying. tommy suddenly rose from his desk. “oh, i-i’m sorry. i didn’t-fuck- i didn’t mean to make you cry,”
he tried to approach you, put his arms around you, but you turned around and put your arm out, signaling for him to stop.
“y/n, i’m sorry. really, i’m sorry. please don’t cry,” he ignored your request for him to stay away and wrapped his arms around you.
you tried to push him off of you, but he just kept holding you.
he let you fall into his chest and collapse on the ground.
“why?” you croaked out, looking up at him through wet lashes, your nose rosey and cheeks stained.
“what?” he was confused, but continued to run his fingers through your hair.
you sniffled and rose to your feet again, thomas following suit.
“why did you stop coming to the river bank?! why did you leave me alone just when you finally began to let me in?!”
you were hitting him now, pounding your fists on his chest, and he was annoyingly unaffected.
“what? sweetheart, slow down,”
your heart was pounding in your ears and you felt your heart drop to your toes when you heard that. tommy hasn’t called you anything but your name since the river bank. and at the river bank, his favorite nickname for you was sweetheart.
insanely enough, you started laughing through your tears. laughing because you were confused? hurt? you don’t know, all you know is for some reason, this is all fucking hIlarious.
tommy’s confused, more confused than you, probably. “y/n, what is so funny?” he approached you again, and this time you’re too wrapped up in your head to care or stop him.
all of a sudden, the pain hits you again, with the force of a train, and you are desperate for closure.
“do you know how long i waited for you? every day, by the river?” your eyes were drying now, and anger was overtaking you.
he blinks and suddenly it’s like he finally understands the seven wonders of the world. “fuck, is that why you’re upset?”
you couldn’t help but stare at his stupidity. “thomas, you led me on for weeks, weeks! and then you stop showing up, because, i’m presuming, i grew boring? or you found some new, young, prettier, thing? you could have told me!” cried your weakening voice.
he opens his mouth to speak, but you aren’t done. “i guess not much has changed. i’m still so boring to you? you still need other women although i’m ruining my life being with you, isn’t that ri-“
he abruptly cut you off “fuck, y/n! it’s because i’m ln love with you!”
your attention was immediately all on him.
“you… what?”
“the reason i stopped coming to the river bank in because i’m in love with you. the reason i go to the brothels is because i am so fucking in love with you and i can’t be! i know, i know, you don’t love me too, okay? i know this is but an arrangement, i know. but, please understand that it kills me to pretend like i don’t,”
you couldn’t believe what you were hearing, the word ‘love’ sounding foreign from thomas.
“that’s doesn’t make any sense. why would you stop seeing me if you loved me, start seeing other women?”
now he was scoffing at your ignorance. “don’t you get it? i can’t afford to be in love, not when i have the biggest bounty in the city on my head. i can’t put that danger on you, i’d die before. also, it scares me, quite frankly,” he whispers the last part.
you couldn’t hold back the twitching smile on your lips. “why didn’t you say anything?” whispered you softly.
he chuckled lightly. “you know yourself, you’d never had given up on me,”
you tilted your head in a ‘touché’ manner.
“i do love you too, you know. in case you couldn’t tell,”
a short silence whisked in the air like a winters breath.
“c’mere, sweetheart.” his voice beckoned you over towards him.
you slung your arms around his shoulders. “what if we… didn’t divorce?”
you smiled up at him before kissing him. “i think that’s a good idea.”

Spoiler-Heavy Review/Thoughts on "The Last Voyage of the Demeter"
The crowd at the theater grew to about 15, so still pretty quiet.
Short version is that I enjoyed this movie thoroughly, but it is truly gruesome. The entry will start below the cut with spoilery warnings, because even having read the book, there were some things that caught me off guard.
Warnings for this film include:
trafficking of a young woman as a blood bag/bride for Dracula
Use of racial slurs against both a Black and a Romani character
deaths of all animals on board, including livestock and a young boy's beloved dog - shown with full gore
death of three crew members by burning in the sun after vampiric possession, including the young boy (the captain's grandson)
One of those three choosing sunlight as their method of suicide rather than allowing themselves to fully turn into a beat.
In fact, no one dies peacefully - this version of Dracula is emphasized as truly beastly, relishing the fear of his victims.
I know we've all been rooting for the Captain (named Captain Elliot in this version), but the true protagonist is Mr. Clemens, played by Corey Hawkins. We never get his first name, but we learn that he's a Black English doctor making his way home from Bulgaria/Romania, and he offers his services to Captain Elliot when a previously hired hand refuses to touch anything marked with Dracula's symbol - the stamp of a black dragon.
Other characters include: Captain Elliot and his young grandson Toby, Anna, the young woman given to Dracula as a captive by her village, and the men of the crew, all of whom have sailed with Captain Elliot before.
Then of course, there's Dracula himself. I saw some reviews saying he's shown far too early in the movie - but it worked for me. We find out that Anna was locked in his coffin with him and was meant to sustain him for the whole voyage - so when we see Dracula, he's weak and wracked with hunger for losing his food supply when Clemens finds Anna and starts treating her. Since we see him like that early, there's room for him to grow to almost full power as he burns through the animals and then the crew.
I enjoyed just about every performance in the film, but Corey Hawkins (Clemens), Javier Botet (Dracula), and Woody Norman (Toby) were particular highlights. Clemens is your classic cynical scientist with a heart of gold, Dracula speaks less than you would expect but still has that taunting air, and Toby doesn't read as older than he's supposed to be.
As story beats go, I think I appreciated Anna's the most. I've said in my reread of Dracula that I wish modern adaptations did more with the people of Transylvania hating Dracula, and this version presented that in Anna's character. She's lived under Dracula's shadow as long as she can remember, even before her village elders handed her over, and once she's freed and recovered some of her strength, she's finally able to fight back. I'm a sucker for a character who knows they're doomed but still tries to do the right thing, and Anna is that in spades.
THE LIGHTING IN THIS MOVIE WAS ACTUALLY EFFECTIVE!!!! The daytime scenes were vibrant, and all the nights scenes are lit by an enormous full moon and several stars. It makes the shadow work less muddied than you might see in a more modern-style horror movie.
The movie ends with Clemens technically surviving, but still deeply traumatized and literally scarred - he and Anna scuttle the ship and jump overboard, but not until after Dracula has drunk enough from Anna to curse her and he's badly hurt Clemens' neck. Anna gives herself over to the sun so that Clemens can get to shore, and the closing scene is clearly a sequel hook as he hunts for Dracula in London - or perhaps the Count has already realized that Clemens is on his tail. This worked for me because the film stuck with Clemens. I kept expecting him to run into one of the core Dracula characters, and I'm not sure I would have liked that.
This is all a very long-winded way of saying that this was a film I truly enjoyed, and it is a LOVE LETTER to the book's thesis - the supernatural may have come out of hiding, but if we band together, evil may be halted - even for a little while.

"god, I forgot how comfortable beds are" Long journeys didn't make for the most comfortable sleeping arrangements, the bed much more comfortable than the trees he's slept in. He didn't know much about the clover kingdom, they had a king and a giant skull that (name) was happy he got to paint. The room was warm, with light beige walls with wood beams that matched the old floorboards and bed frame and furniture, small paintings on the walls to give it some light along with candles for later. A small fireplace in the corner a chair to the side and a desk.
It was more than what he was used to.
Knock knock.
(Name) sat up curiously before walking to the door, opening it to see a young woman "Hi! My dad owns the inn... I noticed you didn't have shoes and we had a nicer pair in the lost and found that weren't gross so I thought you would want them... I hope they fit" (name) smiled softly at her "that's very kind of you, here... I would like to pay you back" the wanderer stepped aside and let her walk into his room, a few of his paintings out "I'll make you a portrait..." He said softly and the young woman looked confused "You don't have to!"
"An act of genuine kindness sparks another besides with the cost of portraits these days, wouldn't it be nice?"
The girl had no reply as she looked at his tiny paintings, no bigger than her hand "Whoa..."
"That one is of the heart kingdom, it's very wild there," he said as they looked at the painting of a rare power "I paint things to remember them, one day I may forget these little things and I always want to remember them... Now! Sit with the sunlight facing you! We don't have much time!"
The woman, whom (name) fondly called 'sparrow' posed shyly as (name) painted her "you have excellent bone structure, you would have made a brilliant sculpture in another world" he commented as she looked confused and a bit flustered "you think?" She said barely above a whisper "I do, my former flame had a beautiful facial structure as well..." (Name) had a sad smile on his face as he thought about his former beloved, though he knows she used him... He still wishes he could have been there for his daughter.
"So what brings you to the clover kingdom?" Sparrow asked and (name) smiled "I'm just sight seeing, I haven't seen much of the clover kingdom so why not right?"
Well, he hadn't seen it... recently.
"You have anything here to recommend?" He asked as he painted and the girl thought "there's a restaurant around the corner that sells the best pasta!" She beamed and (name) chuckled at her dreamy expression at the thought of the dish "I'll have to check it out"
"So what kind of magic do you do? My magic is not strong but I can grow plants" the girl said happily, (name) listening before speaking "If you honed in you could probably grow rare roots... Would help make.potions and such"
"I could do that!"
(Name) helped her with making her magic feel more useful as he kept the topic of his magic out of her head but that didn't seem to work "So what's your magic?" She repeated and (name) knew she wouldn't stop so he answered honestly "It's complicated but to try and simplify it... It- it's strong" he couldn't put it into words without exposing himself "If it's powerful, you should join the magic knights!" (Name) looked confused and the other gasped "the magic knights protect and help the kingdom! They're super strong!"
"... there I think we're done" (name) presented the painting to her "It needs time to dry but I think I didn't do half bad" he just wanted this conversation to end, she was a sweet girl but overwhelming, to say the least, and her look of amazement at tge painting mad regime smile "I can keep this?" She whispered and looked at him in awe "Just keep being kind, yeah? And keep your wits about you"
After she left (name) walked to the window and looked at the clover kingdom curiously, perhaps after a nap he could check it out.
"How do we know he's real?" Charlotte asked and Vanessa sighed "Trust me if anyone can fix this mess... It's him" She remembered him fondly, the man from her childhood before she was locked away in the cage, the man who would teach her things about the outside world he was from, her mother spoke highly of him "he was more powerful than she has ever seen", Vanessa said distantly as the others looked curious at her "someone of his description entered the city today," William said looking over the description that was given to the guards "are you sure he still looks like that?"
"I'm sure"
Nozel and Fuegoleon were tasked to look for this man, and the two ended up at an inn, small and unassuming in the lower ends "Pardon me" Fuegeleon asked the innkeeper who gazed from his book, an older man he was with a slight bald spot and beer belly but friendly none the less "oh that guy? He gave my daughter a painting, why did he do something?"
"No, we just need his help"
"He's out right now but he'll probably be back tonight" the innkeeper was relieved the kind young man hadn't done anything, curious on why the two Royals needed him though but decided not to press "may I offer you two a drink while you wait?"
"Ah, no thank you" Fuegeleon always the gentleman said softly and the innkeeper looked slightly saddened as the redhead continued "would it be possible to see his room? To wait?" The innkeeper not wanting to be in the way of knight business let them have the key to the room and even lead the way, the two thanking him as Nozel looked disgruntled in the shabby room but did notice the drying paintings of the capital on the small desk "these are incredibly detailed" he noted to his cousin who hummed "from what Vanessa says this must be him, he was a painter"
The paintings almost looked real if it wasn't for the water color aspect, it was incredible really "How can we be sure he can help us?"
"Frankly I just want to know why two strange men are in my room" a voice broke them from their thoughts as (name) held a paper container of pasta, eating it slowly "Quite rude frankly, just barging into a room someone paid for"
"Are you (name)?" Nozel glares at the man in the ratty cloak with painted designs on it and the inside, little embroidery designs of flowers and what looks to be a family on it all in the style of a child's drawing.
"Ah, that would be me," he said casually as he plopped down in his chair, not even phased "who are you two?" He had a bored expression as he ate more pasta, the girl was not lying this shit was the bomb! "You don't know who we are?" Nozel seethed and (name) raised an eyebrow "Haven't been in the clover kingdom in years, I ain't gotta clue"
"We are the captains of the Silver Eagles and Crimson Lions respectively"
"That a sports team or something?"
"Spo-- we are magic knights!" Noel was about to tear this man's head off but thankfully Fuegeleon stepped in "We were told you could help us"
"And who said that?"
"Someone you may know... Are you aware of anyone named Vanessa?"
(Name) didn't even need to hear the rest as he packed his belongings, his cloak swishing as he put the paintings away "Well what are you doing? Lead the way!" (Name) urged them, a stark difference compared to how he was earlier as he slung his bag over his shoulder "let's go!"
(Name) didn't give a fuck about the palace, eyes looking around curious for one person and one person alone.
Then it felt like time stood still as he stared at him from across the room with people wearing matching caplets.
"'Nessa..." He said as he had finally found happiness, the knights were confused as the pink-haired woman felt tears well up in her eyes.
"Papa..."

Alright so I’ve been toying with this complex mafia!au fic idea for a very long while and I guess it’s time to give it a whirl. I already have about ten chapters written out (I’m expecting it to be at least 20 chapters), but I want to test out the waters first. I’ll start posting more if some of you are interested in knowing what the hell is going on.

The morning light had not yet pierced the darkness when Y/N was abruptly roused from her sleep by the rustling of security guards entering her room. The sudden intrusion was quickly followed by a stern order; she was being summoned to a meeting with Namjoon.
Rubbing the sleep from her eyes, Y/N slid out of bed to find she was wearing pajamas.
Mrs Shin, YN thought as she recalled last night’s events, that old bitch.
 Still drowsy, she went to open her wardrobe, which was now curiously filled with clothing. Everything black. "How fitting," she muttered under her breath as she selected an outfit.
The girl dressed quickly and was escorted through the sterile, echoing halls of the mansion. The crisp morning air hadn't yet warmed the austere corridors, adding a chill to her already uneasy anticipation.
Upon entering a broad, sunlight-flooded office, Y/N was met by the sight of Namjoon and another man, who had pale skin and sharp, cat-like eyes.
Namjoon turned to face her, offering a nod in greeting. "YN-ah," he said, his eyes briefly scanning her face, "I’m glad to see you looking better today."
"Nothing like a little blackout rest to brighten up those dark circles," Y/N responded sternly.
"I trust you’re enjoying your new quarters?" Namjoon inquired.
Unimpressed by his attempts at cordiality, Y/N offered no reply, her silence laden with indifference.
"I hope you’ve got everything you need up there," he pressed on.
"Cut the crap,” Y/N’s voice sliced through the pleasantries, her stance firm, eyes narrowing slightly, “are you going to tell me why I’m here?"
"Alrighty, then," Namjoon conceded with a slight nod, gesturing subtly to the guards. At his signal, they exited, leaving only the man with cat-like eye whom he had been speaking to earlier. "Let’s get straight to it, shall we?"
As the door closed, Namjoon motioned towards a plush chair opposite his desk, but Y/N chose to remain standing. She crossed her arms, her posture rigid.
Namjoon sighed, « I’m sure you’re wonde-»
"Before you even start, » Y/N cut in sharply, her gaze unwavering, « you should know that I have zero intel. »
"Come on now, Y/N, » Namjoon replied, his voice smooth, attempting to diffuse the tension with a light chuckle, « don’t sell yourself short like that. »  He leaned back slightly against the edge of his desk, his demeanor casual yet calculating, as he watched her closely.
"I don’t know if you’ve heard, but I’ve been away for the past four years, » Y/N's voice was sharp, her frustration palpable as she confronted Namjoon across the sleek surface of his desk. « Oh, but wait—you must’ve known, considering you sent your minions after me the second I landed back in this god forsaken country," she said, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
Namjoon leaned back casually. "Early bird gets the worm," he quipped, clearly unbothered by her accusatory tone.
« Well, I’m afraid you’re bound to starve,” Y/N pressed, her eyes narrowing as she gauged his reaction. “Even if I did know something, we both know I could never tell you."
"I don’t need information from you,” Namjoon retorted smoothly, his gaze steady and assessing. “Your mere presence will suffice, I’m sure."
YN rolled her eyes in exasperation. "Did I not tell you to do your research? My brother is not one to negotiate. This is not what we do," her voice grew colder, more distant. It was common knowledge that when a member of the Park clan was weak or dumb enough to be taken, they were considered good riddance. Left to fend for themselves, prove their worth. It was all part of the code. “No one is coming for me." Her last sentence hung in the air.
"I wouldn’t be so sure," the man with cat eyes, suddenly spoke up. « Look what came knocking at the headquarters this morning. » He pointed to the desk where a stark symbol lay—a raven, motionless, its neck broken.
Y/N’s jaw clenched at the sight. « Animal cruelty, real classy, Namjoon,” she snapped with biting sarcasm, “Between that and last night’s roofie, you’ve become a proper little delinquent, haven’t you? »
« They’re a bad omen, » the cat-eyed man said nonchalantly, « we weren’t gonna take the chance. »
Y/N stared at the lifeless bird intensely. A bad omen. A chill ran down her spine as she wondered whether she was destined to share a similar fate. Would her neck be the next to break under their twisted sense of precaution?
« But that’s hardly the interesting part, » the man interrupted her train of thoughts, handing her a folded piece of parchment, “here’s what it carried.”
She unfolded it with hesitant fingers to reveal a simple sketch.
A Tiger’s head. In jet black ink.
They all knew what that meant.
"A little old-fashioned, I must say," Namjoon observed with a slight chuckle, "an email would’ve worked just as well."
Y/N stared at the symbol, her mind racing. Her brother couldn’t possibly be willing to declare war over her safety.
Could he?
"Don’t worry," Namjoon said, cutting through her thoughts. « I can assure you your kin hasn’t grown sentimental while you were away."
"Then what do you make of this?" she asked, her confusion giving way to a growing sense of urgency.
"Ah, Y/N-ah, » Namjoon sighed, content, « you really have been gone a long time, haven’t you? » his tone was almost pitying now.
"Spit it out, will you?" Y/N demanded, her patience thinning.
Namjoon leaned forward, clasping his hands together as he prepared to reveal the crux of the matter, his expression serious. "What this means," he began, "is that the game has changed. And whether you like it or not, you are now a pivotal player."
Namjoon fixed his gaze on Y/N, his voice low and deliberate. "Rumor has it your family's operations are teetering on the edge," he continued, observing her closely for any telltale reaction. "It seems your brother's firm hand may be squeezing a little too tight, risking a shortage in your flock soon."
Y/N's expression hardened, a subtle tension in her shoulders as she processed his words.
"Then again," Namjoon added, his tone shifting slightly, "We both know collapse simply isn’t in the cards for your clan. Its unique strategic position will safeguard its continuity… provided your brother knows how to leverage it.”
“After all,” he mused, “The intel your family has access to isn’t just valuable—it's the linchpin that could radically alter the political landscape of the entire continent."
He leaned back his eyes never leaving Y/N. "And let’s be clear," he continued, "the lengths to which some might go to access this information are boundless."
Y/N felt a chill as she absorbed the full impact of his words, her mind racing.
“I’m sure I don’t need to utter their names for you to know the parties interested,” Namjoon added.
The Kims.
The Kangs
The Lees.
Even the Chois, possibly.
Any of the other four original clans, really, could be talked into parting ways with some of their troops. For the right price, of course. Tit for tat.
The stakes were clear, and the players were formidable.
Still one piece still didn’t fit.
“I don’t see what all this has to do with me,” YN stated.
Namjoon smirked, “You’re smarter than that.”
“Apparently not,” she replied sternly.
He let out a heavy contemplative breath. “Why do you think you, of all people, were summoned back here in the first place? After four years away? » He paused, giving her a moment to absorb the implications. « Just when your clan finds itself on the precipice of needing to form a—permanent alliance.”
His words struck a cold vein.
No.
She scoffed, shaking her head as if to dismiss the very thought.
"Come on now," Namjoon pressed, his voice smooth yet insistent, "you didn’t honestly think he’d missed you?"
“You’re wrong-” she continued, denial lacing her tone.
« Oh, but I’m not, » he confirmed with a nod, the corners of his lips twitching slightly. “Your birthright, it seems, has become the currency of power brokers." He paused, watching her face slowly decompose. “And word on the street is that your dear brother is bound to start quite the bidding war for a spot in your family tree.”
YN pondered the chilling possibility that Namjoon might be right; her brother was more than capable of pulling such a twisted stunt, if only just to spite her.
Her eyes narrowed; her stance tensed. "So, what is this, then? A proposal? You’re going to force me down the aisle like some 15th-century bride?" The scorn in her voice was unmistakable.
"Do you really think that low of me?" Namjoon retorted, his eyebrows arching in feigned surprise.
"I’ve learned to manage my expectations," she shot back.
"Well, rest assured, there will be no wedding," Namjoon stated firmly, his tone serious as he leaned forward slightly, bridging the gap between them.
« Jesus Christ, stop with the riddles, already, » Y/N snapped, “what the fuck are you trying to achieve, here?”
Namjoon let out a heavy sigh, his gaze intensifying as he fixed his eyes on Y/N. "I suppose," he paused, choosing his words carefully, "we’re offering you- exile, at least until we get some kind of assurance from your clan that this ridiculous quest of theirs is over. »
YN was at a loss for words as she stared at Namjoon in disbelief. The Kims hadn’t built an empire by doing good deeds. Surely, there had to be an angle somewhere.
"So, you’re telling me you didn’t even think to join the auction then, huh?" she pressed with a wary tone. "I must say I’m almost offended. Do you not think me pretty enough for one of your own, Namjoon? »
He rolled his eyes, a gesture that did little to mask the strategic mind behind his relaxed facade. « You know politics is not our game. We couldn’t care less what happens in matters of state, so long as we can conduct our business in peace," he retorted.
"That being said," Namjoon leaned forward, his expression turning grave, "the charter is clear. No blood bonding, no alliances. We won’t let it happen, » he declared, "not again. »
As Namjoon spoke, YN's mind was transported back to the haunting tales of her childhood, relayed by her nanny in the dim glow of firelight—stories steeped in the brutal feuds that had shaped the history of the Korean underworld. The room seemed to fill with the spectral presence of those turbulent times: relentless bloodbaths and deep-rooted rivalries that governed life and death.
One tale, in particular, stood stark in her memory: When the Lees, an ancient and unforgiving clan, had once resorted to hiring a Park bladesman to settle a bitter business score with the Tigers. The one to pay the price had been none other than the young heir to the Kim clan—Namjoon's father.
 The assault, carried out under the cover of darkness, had left the boy permanently marred, a savage act of retribution that inflicted wounds deeper than the visible scars on his face.
To be fair, each clan gave as good as they got. But the end of the war had come with the desire for a peaceful era between the clans.
That’s what the Mutual Prosperity Charter had been for.
Deciding to stay out of each other’s business as much as possible, the 5 original signatories had managed to grow their empires without resorting to backstabbing each other for over 60 years. Of course, there had been... incidents, here and there, but everything was handled in agreement with the charter. An eye for an eye. Never further.
Then again, what’s bred in the bone is bound to come out in the flesh.
She could’ve punched herself for being so blind. They deeply feared an alliance, feared her role in it. These stories were more than mere tales; they served as dire warnings. As YN pondered, the depth of Namjoon's determination became starkly evident. The scars borne by his father were not just physical marks; they were vivid reminders of the perilous consequences that clan fraternization could bring.
Though their concerns were understandable, YN couldn't help but find the intensity of their reaction overblown.
All of that fuss over some stupid old grudges? Pathetic, she thought. Scared little kittens.
“I didn’t know the Kims to be resentful. » Y/N broke the silence, each word dripping with insinuation. «Is daddy still upset? » she continued with a mocking pout, noting the slight tightening of Namjoon’s jaw. “You know, a scar is a mark of honor up north, he really shouldn’t have taken it so personally.”
She paused, her gaze scanning Namjoon’s squeezed fist deliberately. “Where is your father, by the way?” she prodded further, her words calculated to provoke. “I don’t see a signet ring on your hand, so I assume the old man hasn’t kicked the bucket just yet.”
Crossing the small distance between them with a few purposeful steps, Y/N reached out and adjusted Namjoon’s tie. « So where is he, then? »
The man’s eyes hardened, the muscles in his neck tensing visibly as he grasped her wrist, stopping her movements. His frustration was palpable, almost radiating from him in waves as he stared down at her, his voice a low growl. “Watch your tone. »
“What?” her voice dropped to a whisper, venomous and taunting, “Did daddy finally come to terms with the fact that little golden boy Namjoonie is simply too soft for the big job?”
Namjoon maintained a veneer of control, but it was clear that her jabs had struck a nerve. His glance shifted subtly to his subordinate, conveying a silent command that was understood instantly.
Without hesitation, the cat-eyed man moved with a swift, practiced motion, striking Y/N's face with such force that she stumbled and fell to her knees.
“Motherf—" Y/N winced in pain, her hand flying to her throbbing cheek as she struggled to regain her composure. Looking up at Namjoon through narrowed eyes, she shot back, "Whatever happened to 'no touching the face', huh?"
Namjoon's response was chillingly indifferent. "Scars have a way of fading over time," he remarked coldly. His eyes didn't waver from her pained gaze, his stance firm and unyielding. "You, of all people, would know. »
Y/N clenched her jaw tightly, the metallic taste of blood seeping onto her tongue—a stark reminder of the precariousness of her position.
Namjoon crouched down to her level, his face impassive but his eyes sharp and calculating. He extended a handkerchief toward her. Gently, almost incongruously tender, he dabbed at the blood trickling from her lip. « Now that things are- clearer, » he began, his voice low and controlled, "remember you are our guest here, just stay out of trouble and there will be no reason for things to get ugly." The underlying threat in his tone was clear, cloaked in the veneer of civility.
As he rose to his full height, he signaled to his subordinate, who had been standing by silently, watching the interaction with an impassive expression.
"All we need to do is wait ‘till this all gets figured out," Namjoon added, his voice carrying a hint of finality as he moved towards the door.
He was about to step out when Y/N's voice, stronger now, called after him.
"And how long do you expect that to be?" she asked.
Namjoon paused in the doorway, turning his head slightly. "Weeks, months, hell, maybe years," he said with a shrug, his tone nonchalant as if it mattered little in the grand scheme of things. "Lucky for you, time is now the least of your concerns." With those words, he stepped out, leaving the door to swing shut behind him, the soft click of the latch a stark finality in the quiet room.
Left alone, Y/N steadied herself, drawing a deep breath as she processed the encounter. She knew the real game had only just begun.

Alright, that chapter was a little heavy on information, and I tried to not make everything too obvious or clear-cut, but I don't know if it's maybe too confusing, or not enough. If you can't even understand the jist of it all, do tell me lol. Because it makes sense to me, but I have the bigger map in mind so I'm not exactly objective lol

With a book in her hand, she hopped out of her home and headed straight to the forest. Her dress floated in such uneven motion as she grasped the hem of her skirt while skipping off to the lake. Her dear old grandparents told her to be back before midnight, it is said that awful, terrible things happen at night. Especially in the darkest hours. 
(Y/n) is a type of girl who loves to go outdoors and get fresh air. She doesn’t have many friends since she typically likes to be alone. Many villagers always gossip about how strange she is and how she always sticks her nose in a book. Some talk in secret about her parents who died during a horrible plague in her old hometown. (Y/n) pays no mind to the judgemental villagers, no matter what they say about her. No matter how much it leaves a scar on her heart when they speak about her parents…
As she lowered her head to the lake, her reflection became hazy on the blue-green water. There are times where she often wonders if she’s really like her parents, despite the gossip that slipped through her mind. Shaking her head, trying to not let those thoughts bother her so much. She sat down calmly by the lake near the rocks and read her book in peace. The rising sunlight from the burning sunset kisses her skin as she reads…
Not realizing how dark the day has gotten, (Y/n) lifted her head from the rock she was lying on with a book grasped against her chest. “Shit!” She cussed, standing up on her feet, “I stayed out too late. I have to go before my grandparents get worried.” So she scurried off in a hurry, trying to get back home as quickly as possible. 
A howl echoed through the forest, it sounded like bloodthirsty-hungry wolves. (Y/n) ran in a panic until she slipped, dropping her book on the dirt. Before she could even stand, a herd of wolves surrounded her. They began to circle around her, causing the poor woman to shiver in fear. 
She cried for help as the wolves were about to feast on her. However, all that changed when a mysterious figure spun around her, a red floating cloak shielding her from the wolves. The man with red-crimson eyes appeared out of air, firing his gun towards the vicious creatures that were about to eat the poor man alive. 
He put his gun away in his holester that is strapped to his right thigh before checking up on the woman. Having a look around to see if there were any more coming. (Y/n) stood up in shock, wondering where that man came from. He came up to her , checking to see if she’s hurt anywhere, “You shouldn’t be out this late…” he spoke in a very cold manner with his cold-stoic expression. 
“I know, I lost track of time and I accidentally fell asleep by the lake after reading a book..”As (Y/n) told him what she was doing before the day reeled in the night, he noticed a book on the ground. The man picked it up and handed it over to her. 
She took it from his hand while observing him. (Y/n) has never seen this man before. A red, beautiful cloak, a golden gauntlet on his left arm. A bandana around his head, the colour on it is slightly the same as his cloak. The way he dresses is very odd, leading the girl to question his taste in fashion but she wouldn’t dare to talk to him about it. “Thank you for saving my life…” The only response she received by the emotionless man was a simple nod. With that he walked off, telling her to ‘get home safe’. 
(Y/n) figured out that he wasn’t much of a talker, she rushed up to the red cloaked man and began walking beside him, “Who are you? How come I never seen you around here before?” 
“Shouldn’t you go home instead of walking with someone like me whom she barely knows?” 
(Y/n) pouted her cheeks in disappointment, clenching her book with a sting of annoyance, “You could at least tell me your name…” 
“...Vincent…Vincent Valentine..and you are..?” 
“(Y/n) (L/n)...say..” (Y/n) wrapped her book to her chest while still walking with him, “Do you go out here often..?” 
“I do, sometimes..”
“I see..” 
A wave of silence dropped in between the two, (Y/n) could try to have a long conversation with Vincent since she appears to be intrigued by him somehow. However, she didn’t want to force him into talking more. “Aren’t you supposed to go home?” Vincent cocked his head, wondering why (Y/n) isn’t rushing home.  “Oh? I should, I don’t want my grandparents to worry about me so I will leave you alone..” (Y/n) skipped off midway through the forest until Vincent managed to catch up to her in time, “Wait…it’s getting very dark out here so allow me to escort you..” it was very kind of Vincent to offer to walk you home, god knows what lingers at this deepest darkest time of the day. “A-alright, my village is just-” 
“I know where it is..” Vincent walked ahead of her, (Y/n) gave a quiet chuckle as she caught up to him, “So…you do know how to be a gentleman.” 
“Hmph..” The odd-charming man let out a bitter smirk behind the collar of his red cloak. “So how do you know where my home is?” 
Vincent turned his head to face her, “I walk around the place at times. I don’t like going in there though…” 
“How come?” 
“Too many people..”
“Oh, I see..” She lifted her chin with a small smile, brewing up an idea, “You know…we should see each other again..” 
Vincent raised his eyebrow, his arms becoming folded in a slight hint of curiosity of why (Y/n) would want to see him again, “...why though?” 
“Why? I want to get to know you, you seem very…interesting. Not to mention…mysterious.” 
“Mysterious? Me? Well, you must be the first person to ever say that about me.” Vincent spoke up again, “Also, I don’t think we-” 
“Here we are! My home!” She tried not to shout out too loud, otherwise she would wake up the whole village. (Y/n) crossed the bridge but only stopped in the middle to look at Vincent one more time, “Thank you Vincent…” a graceful smile coloured her face, “for walking me home..”  Vincent gave a nod, no emotions showing on his face “Try not to stay out too late next time.” 
“Of course…well…I will see you around..” (Y/n) skipped off home, hoping that her grandparents won't give her a good smack on the head for not coming home before nighttime. Well, they rarely do that to their own granddaughter. They mostly get concerned about (Y/n), not knowing what will happen to her if she stays out too long at night. 
(Y/n) whisked herself away into her nightgown and read the 10th chapter of her book before bed. She couldn’t shut her eyes to sleep because she can’t stop thinking about that man she met in the forest. Vincent Valentine… 
On the other side, Vincent finds the girl quite fascinating and somewhat…lovely. (Y/n) was the first person that ever called him ‘Mysterious’ which doesn't seem to bother him. Vincent is keen on why the lady he met in the forest wants to get to know him. He finds her very sweet though, she doesn’t appear to be a terrible person. Vincent is extremely worried that (Y/n) will figure out what he’s truly hiding. What he truly is…

Vincent couldn’t stop the lady from hanging around him, it didn’t practically take long for him to get used to (Y/n). He has been constantly giving a lot of nods and hums while she chats herself away. Sometimes she reads a book to him. Appearing to be unbothered by her, he finds her quite comforting to listen to. However, he is trying to be careful not to get too fond of her. It was too late for that.
Day by day…
Night by night…
Vincent gradually could feel himself getting attached to (Y/n), drawn into her but not because of her beauty. Her sweetness, her kindness, the way she talks to him in such a soothing manner. He could listen to her talking every day if he wanted to. (Y/n) held his hand a few times whenever they went out for a stroll, day and night. Running through the forest carelessly with his hand in her palm, her sweet-loving laughter causing Vincent’s heart and soul to flutter.
On a heavy rainy day, Vincent decided to take (Y/n) to his mansion to stay for one night. As (Y/n) settled down comfortably on the couch, Vincent threw in a few logs into the fireplace to get more warmth in the room. He sits himself down next to the lady and realizes that he doesn’t have a warm blanket to give her. Instead he used his red cloak to use as a blanket, flipping it up behind (Y/n) as the edges of the cloak reached over her shoulder. 
(Y/n) gave an appreciative smile, moving in close to Vincent to lean on his shoulder. While she rests her tiring eyes, Vincent inched his head to her side with his crimson eyes looking deeply into her. Behind his collar, he let out a slight smile. It’s been a while since he has never felt this close to anyone. Vincent turned his head away in a spiral of despair, knowing that he can’t be with someone so precious as (Y/n). He doesn’t deserve her. Vincent does not want her to find out that he contains a beast within him. There are times where he can’t control it… 
He wonders…
How could someone so sweet and caring as (Y/n)...be with a monster? 
That’s what he truly sees himself as…
A monster…
A week later, Vincent brought her over to the lake. (Y/n) wanted to figure out why he took her to that spot. She walked closer and noticed a sudden change in his expression. Before this day, she sighted a swift turn of mood changing from Vincent. Wondering what’s been bugging him lately…
“Vincent…” (Y/n) called out to him in worry, noticing that he’s ignoring her. “Vincent, what’s wrong? You’ve been acting very strange before. Please..tell me..I won’t judge you for it.”
He flipped his cape, turning around to face her, “...(Y/n)...I don’t think we can see each other anymore…” Vincent didn’t want to say this in such a heartless way, yet he knew it would hurt her feelings. (Y/n) felt her heart drop, her eyes swirling in heartbreak, “Why? Did I…Did I do something to upset you?” 
Vincent shakes his head in response, “You didn’t.” He added, “Trust me, (Y/n)...you don’t want to be around me…to be with me…” 
“That’s not true, Vincent! I-” (Y/n) cried, taking a pause as she held his hand, “I know you don’t like to talk at times, I’m fine with that. I..I..if I have to choose someone to be with..to spend my time with…it would be you because…you light a flame in my heart and my soul. You’re the only person that truly makes me happy…”
Vincent coldly pulled away from her, no longer making eye contact with her, “Do you even know me? There’s a part of me that will terrify the life out of you… I don’t wish to hurt you, (Y/n). If that happens, it will haunt me for eternity and I will have to live with that guilt for the rest of my life. For your own safety…please…stay away from me…” He walked deep into the shadows, this is the part he decided to walk out of her life without even saying goodbye.
(Y/n)’s eyes pricked with tears, breaking down as she watched him leave…
Vincent stinged himself with regret, he didn’t want to look back because he couldn’t bear to see you hurting. As he carried on walking out of (Y/n)’s life, his body throbbed with a painful ache. Vincent trembled to the ground, his hands digging into the dirt, “No..no..not now!” he groaned, shaking his head. Feeling the beast conquering within him that he’s desperately trying to gain control of…
A loud stomp of footsteps was heard behind him….
“Vincent!!”
