I have this hc where, after spending their life at least mostly isolated in the circle, Mage Trevelyan probably has a not-so-great immune system. So, if you want: how do the companions/advisors react (Cullen in particular if you prefer?) when the Mage Inquisitor gets sick? Panic? Dote on them? Something in between? Neither? (Also, I have to say, you guys are doing great work here. I didn't know I needed this blog until I found it, but I LOVE it!)
“Companions reacting to sick Mage!Trevelyan!Inquisitor”
Another joke!
Healer: Sir Cullen, you’re suffering from delirium.
Cullen: No shit I’m suffering from the lyrium. I’m asking what are the symptoms?
-Lord Lex
Cullen
-Honestly? Think he’d be one of the more level-headed people about it. He’s been inside a magi circle, he knows how most are when it comes to adventuring out for the first time. He’s quick to contact any healers who can help and checks on your status every now and then, but mainly leaves it to the professionals. He’ll take on any responsibilities to make it easier for you when you get better. He’ll go out of his way to make sure you get the proper care and herbs/potions that you need.
Josephine
-Very doting. She’s an older sister so she’s always looking out for others. Mainly goes by the way of getting you some soup while you rest and seeing if any of the healers are able to help. She’ll stay by your bedside in case you need anything and, in a situation that calls for her attention, will have someone stay with you until she gets back. Don’t worry, she won’t forget about her duties, nor yours. Josey will make sure most are done.
Leliana
-Walk it off. The only way you’ll grow immune to most diseases is through travel. Or being poisoned. She’s pretty sure you don’t want to do the latter. She’ll make sure a scout or a healer stays near you so no one gets the drop on you while still attending to her duties. You might even find some very delicious soup sent up from the kitchen, a special request put in by “a friend”. No, she will not admit it was her.
Vivienne
-Bet your ass this woman is tsking you while healing you. Goes over exercises to help you better your body so that a simple cold won’t take you out as well as different types of magic to help heal or protect you. It’s better for everyone if you’re not constantly falling to your death, metaphorically and physically.
Varric
-Goes the whole 8 ½ yards. Get’s you some broth, a bowl of water and a towel, maybe some more blankets. One of the main ones who just lets you chill. You’re already under enough pressure, it won’t make you feel any better if people rush the process. Just take your time getting better. And when you do eventually get out of bed, tries to take note of areas that might be a little too harsh for you. One step at a time.
Cole
-Cole is trying, ok? He brings you the ingredients for soup but forgot that you have to make the soup. Will then bring you hot water but not the ingredients. Even get you blankets…a humorous amount of blankets. Cole even brings you…a chicken? Says it’s supposed to help. Who knows. You never see him, but you can sometimes hear him talking. It’s gotten to a point where the maids think the stairs to your quarters are haunted.
Solas
-Oh, that’s simple. Magic. Except after one too many that he realizes it’s your immune system. He’s worried, don’t get me wrong. But for once, he agrees with Vivienne. Magic can only take you so far. You need to start developing better habits and strengthen your will. Solas will personally go with you to certain areas and sit or walk around to make sure it’s getting better. Magic will only be used if necessary.
Cassandra
-Cass is worried the whole time. She tries to (s)mother you with care which is something she’s not used to nor you. She’s so freaking worried, always nervous when you fall ill and thinking the worst. Let’s the healers do their job and maids bring you things but she’s always there, asking if you need anything else, even after you’ve said no. She just wants to make sure the Inquisitor (and her friend) are alright.
The Iron Bull
-Doesn’t really stop him from doing his thing. Sure, he’ll come up and check on you, make sure you’re doing alright, but he’s going to keep things up and running the same as if you weren’t even at Skyhold. Of course, he’ll try to figure out how or why you got sick and help try to prevent it. Another one to join in on Solas’s trips to make sure you’re taking it at a nice pace to get better. Might even suggest pushing yourself further each time,
Dorian
-No magic, heal properly. He’s going to give you so much sass while taking care of you. Yes, him. He’s doing it, going down to the kitchen and fetching you broth and water, helping you move in case you're in pain and getting any herbs to make it better. But he will, under no circumstances, use his magic. Mainly because he doesn’t want to fuck up and reset your progress at getting better. He’s grouchy but that’s just his way of saying he cares for you.
Sera
-Ok and? Get your hind tail up and get outside with her. She knows how to fix it. And that’s by pelting you with snow. Which she finds out does not, in fact, help. After that she’ll just hang out in your room, keeping you company while also asking for stuff to be brought up for you and her. Makes sure you’re still laughing even if you feel like death.
Blackwall
-He’s a farm boy at heart. Tries to take care of you as simple as possible. Some soup with some meat, enough bedding that you’re comfortable but not too hot or too cold, some water to keep you from overheating, and enough time to sleep. You shouldn’t try to rush the process, it’s what helps make your body start to get used to it. Blackwall will stay by your side in case you need anything, even just chatting or talking so that you have some sort of calming presence.

So, I've been trying to identify who would escalate a prank war to Kevin McCallister levels in the batfamily and I've come down to Three (3) options. By all means feel free to have a (fun) debate about it, though. This is just my opinion.
Option one, the most understandable: Damian Wayne
Damian was effectively raised as an only child while also being told to be The Best. Of course he's chronically unable to back down once challenged and so no matter who started this, Damian will attempt to end it. It's an easy way to prove himself their betters while also being super petty. Also, he desperately want's to prove to Jon that he's not a stick in the mud. Also also, his brothers are insane and there's no telling what the next prank will be and who will be caught in the crossfire. Might as well make sure that any revenge is premeditated.
Option two, the wildcard: Cassandra Cain
Cass is also an only child. She was also raised to be The Best and is stubborn as hell so of course she gets involved in what she sees as a fun competition with her family. Her image of retaliation is skewed, though so she always ends up going slightly overboard. Not enough for anyone to get mad, but it's suspicious that it's always enough to make the person ticked off, yet not murderously enraged. She's also a little shit who can get away with anything with Bruce if she looks innocent enough. It drives her brothers up a wall because there's no evidence to prove she DID do it. Cass knows exactly what she's doing and she's not afraid to do it.
Option Three, the Actual Kevin McCallister: Tim Drake
Listen, okay. I had to put him here. On top of being an only child I swear to god this kid was obsessed with Home Alone. He absolutely would take the opportunity to MacGyver some shit to torture his siblings, bonus points if it hits Bruce too. You cannot convince me he didn't booby-trap Drake manor at some point while his parents were globe trotting. He doesn't have any excuse of pride about challenges, he's just a malicious actor here. Tim fears no retribution or god, he's nearly been killed several times and it hasn't stuck so why would it start now. You attack, and he attacks back a thousand times harder. You attack Tim and practically sign a waiver allowing him the freedom to ruin your costume or civilian lifestyle.
Cut here before the explanations of those who don't escalate (Need to emphasize here, they still may participate but they don't make it worse) because this has gotten out of hand
Reasoning for others to not be included:
Duke: He's unhinged yes, but he's not batshit insane. He fully understands that if he escalates, someone is going to make a murder attempt. He doesn't want to be the next Tim, that's not a position he wants to willingly put himself in yet. He'll contribute or join a team, but ultimately Duke can be found in the one Neutral Zone, Alfred's kitchen, watching with bemusement as his siblings attempt to turn the Manor into a war-zone. If pranked, he'll prank back, but not escalate. Also people feel a little like kicking a puppy when they prank him. Duke weaponizes this and uses it to get out of bullshit or pull off bullshit scot-free.
Stephanie: Maybe she's on a team. Maybe she's a free agent. She doesn't want anyone to target her specifically because then she truly has to be paranoid. Instead, she's always helping with pranks, making everyone indebted to her and thus allowing her to be the only safe person other than Alfred.
Barbra: I just. I cannot emphasize how much the family leaves her out of this. She will find a way to get back at you and it will end your idea of pranking her again. Unlike Alfred, who was universally known to be off-limits, she knew that someone would try something because all of that family is made up of little shits. This meant that she has to shut it down once it starts. She is immune. Inevitably someone will push the envelope and Babs will remind them that she control's their tech and information systems. She will however, assist if a prank gets particularly nasty and someone needs to shut the war down. Typically she's recruited by Alfred or Bruce to end the war where it stands once it starts to get to the Property Destruction Level.
Jason: He was asked not to participate by Alfred and Jason willingly obeys only Alfred. This is specifically because of one incident when this happened with Tim, Dick, and him. Back when he and Tim were getting along somewhat and Dick had somehow pissed both of them off, they escalated The War. It ended with three new craters in the warehouse district, The Riddler so traumatized that he completely avoids doing Rouge Activities when Red Robin and Red Hood are on speaking terms, and Dick stuck in a box on his way across the country. Instead, Jason enjoys being on Stephanie's side of aiding whoever is funnier. He is not off limits though. Oh dear god he is not off limits. He is the victim of so many pranks. He just cannot retaliate. In turn, he turns into a snitch for this event, and only this event. Jason will alert Alfred of any destructive pranks. He will let Alfred know of birdies staying up too late, of birdies jumping off buildings because superman will catch them, of birdies doing general dumb ass restricted shit. Jason will make the pranker's life a living hell.
Dick: Dick matches the energy of the prank. He's petty so it will always be perfectly organized so that it causes maximum damage while never managing to be something one can reasonably escalate against. (For example, Tim once hid all of Dicks cereal in increasingly impossible places and swapping the boxes so they were labeled wrong. In retaliation every single one of Tim's coffees became decaf. They're the exact same flavor, but the caffeine content is so low it barely counts as coffee. Tim didn't notice until he went on a case bender and passed out thirty hours in despite drinking eight cups of coffee. This was weeks later after the war ended. There was no retaliation. Tim still has no clue how Dick got in, out, AND made the perfect replica) Damian learned at the feet of the master, but unfortunately has too much localized anger to play it to perfection like Dick can.
Cullen and Harper: They don't live at the Manor. They refuse to participate. They'll help small scale, but they're both sensible enough to know that anymore makes them targets.
Bruce: I don't need to explain this. He's tired. He doesn't want to be here. He never actively participates and yet always ends up in the crossfire. Can people please stop pranking each other on patrol? Must you dye Tim's suit neon pink? It's really not conducive to being the cities silent protectors.

FNV Companions With A Bad Karma!Reader
➼ Word Count » 0.5k ➼ Warnings » None ➼ Genre » Platonic/Romantic
Boone finds you annoying. People have it hard enough out here and he hates the idea that you actively try and make it worse for them. He'll let it go the few first times you do something he disagrees with, but if you show no signs of stopping, then he'll stop and talk to you. You'll either have to get your act together or he's leaving, it'll be as simple as that, and if you decide you're not going to quit, he'll have no issues killing you.
It makes Arcade slightly uncomfortable, especially if you just go around and slaughter innocent people. Who's to say you won't target him next? He'll try to rehabilitate you as the Followers have done so many times before, but if you refuse to change then he'll just walk away. He won't even say anything to you, you'll just wake up and he won't be there.
Raul doesn't really mind. He was like that at one point too. It's just a phase that you'll grow out of as you get older and he'll be there to guide you in the better directions. He'll try to reason with you if you're about to do something drastic or immoral, but he won't stop you. As long as you don't do anything to him he'll stick around. Besides, it might be good for you to have some positive influence in your life.
Lily doesn't like it. She thinks you're too much like Leo and will try to guide and influence you into doing kinder things around the Mojave. She'll always strongly encourage you to make morally right decisions and teach you why doing bad things will end in your own downfall. She'd never leave you because of it, if anything she just wants to try and be there for you throughout it all. She's so scared of you digging a hole too big to crawl out of. This relationship can quickly end up toxic if she keeps making excuses for you and you keep abusing her kindness and tolerance.
Cass will be completely upfront with you. You either fix your attitude or she's leaving. She has no problem telling you off and disappearing from you're life, and especially has no issue putting a bullet in your skull if she deems you too dangerous.
Veronica also has no problem telling you that you're going too far. She wants to have fun, not be doing things that harm others. She'll be kinder about it than Cass, offering to help work on yourself, but if you still keep it up, she'll probably start a fight with you.
Rex doesn't care. As long as you don't do anything to affect Freeside, he'll just keep on following you. Living with the Legion makes him almost immune to any harm you could possibly do and he'll stay loyal to you throughout it all.
ED-E's too naive to really understand what you're doing is wrong and as long as you don't harm him, he'll stick around and aid you in whatever you plan on doing.

Are some of the council heads in on Draxum’s plan and secretly supporting it from the shadows? Especially now that he has Galois and they realize the amount of money that kid could make for them?
The Council? You mean those guys that are totally not Kraang? Who forbade Draxum from messing with the humans and put a fucking hit out on him when he didn't get off his bullshit? Nope.
Okay, I'm gonna use this as an excuse to ramble, as I often do. Let's talk about what we know about the Council. They know about the prophecy, but disagree with Draxum on its interpretation. It's confirmed that humans drove the Yokai underground in the first place and definitely pose a threat to their kind-yet the Council doesn't want to eliminate them. They're voiced by Transformers. We see them exactly twice, and both times what we see is
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heads. Just stiff, unmoving faces. When they speak their mouths glow in time with their words, and the way the audio is it's implied that they're not talking directly, but through some sort of speaker. And then there's this-
Tumblr media
Dispatching Agent 64 to 'keep an eye' on Draxum. And then magically warps him a treat and calls him a good boy. This little exchange gives us a ton of information on the nature of the Council. For one, they have emotions! They might be logic-driven, but they're not soulless like Krang Prime is shown to be. They are not immune to Fluffy Dog, they find them cute and enjoy giving them treats and make embarrassing noises while doing so. Despite this, they don't appear in person to speak to him. They keep their real forms hidden, even from Yokai they seem to trust. They're capable of magic. And finally, they're not omniscient. They can tell Draxum's up to no good, but they need someone to find proof so they can put him on trial.
Considering the existence of the Krang skeleton within the Hidden City and how it bleeds empyrean, how it's confirmed that empyrean is what creates Yokai-the crew was setting the stage for something. I definitely think that the Council was meant to be Rise's Utrom. Potentially, they came with the rest of the Krang dickbags to take over Earth, then pulled a Pink Diamond and went "oh it actually slaps here."
But how this is relevant, the Krang are a hivemind. They don't own individual property, don't even really have their own names. They exist to 'improve' lesser races. They have no need for money, nor the things it could buy them. They would not be fucking capitalists, is what I'm getting at.
As far as the fic goes, the Council are keeping an eye on things and they'll show up eventually. But no, they do not support Draxum. They're trying to catch him with his pants down and get the proof they need to arrest him/take Galois away from him and figure out What The Deal is with all that, but the Draxum/Cass/Galois dream team is covering their tracks very well.
And if we talk about the other big players in the Hidden City, like their elected politicians that operate under the Council and the richie-riches...sort of but not really. The Hidden City is facing a lot of the same problems we are now, with an impending infrastructure collapse on the horizon while their economy and government has been set up for the sole purpose of making a few people as many imaginary bank points as possible. In that the people who have all the power to do anything about the collapse don't give a shit about anything but racking up more bank points and everything's going to hell.
Do those people support Draxum's plot? No. Draxum's plans are not going to make them money-if anything, his plans are a major threat to them. In capitalism, resource scarcity benefits the people at the top. So I've mentioned that there's an impending food shortage due to the limited number of crops they can grow underground. That's fucking great for whoever grows the food. They can absolutely scalp people and people will pay their prices, because they have no other choice. Desperate people are also willing to work more for less, and they care about their rights less when their kids haven't eaten in days. Big Mama and her fellow capitalists? They're excited for this. Sure, they are sinking their own ship for the pleasure of watching those on the lower decks drown, but for a time they can make more imaginary bank points! Draxum's plans would solve a bunch of problems that they're capitalizing on.
Not to mention Draxum's a socialist and he would have a lot of power in this new above-ground society, even if he doesn't want to install himself as king. His plans scare them. His plans would mean they'd make slightly less money. So no, they do not support Draxum.
Galois, however...that's a bit different. Because in someone else's hands, Galois could make someone a whole bunch of money. He wouldn't really want to, but he's a skinny teenager and until recently he didn't legally exist. No government would be looking for him. This is where I side-eye the people calling Draxum a helicopter for being paranoid about Galois being kidnapped because trust me, there are people looking at this kid and licking their chops.

oooh what's some of ur penny lamb (legoland) hcs!!!
Okay so first of all it took me AGES to get to this and for that I'm SORRY but anyways disclaimer I haven't even read Legoland in its entirety yet I keep putting it off 😭 so these are kinda more general I think
- (these first couple are rtc specific but after this it's general I promise!!) I like to think that after being brought back, penny remembered the choir and I know this is very unlikely but it makes me happy to imagine she has some vague idea of who they were/what happened but she's not really aware of it? It makes me sad to imagine she loses all her memories again and I also choose to believe that Legoland penny is rtc penny too.
- speaking of that, her and Ricky were friends before the accident argue with the literal wall. They were definitely each other's first real friends at St. Cass cause everyone kinda ignored Ricky and penny was. Penny
- But anyway, penny in general time! She gives everyone rocks she finds outside but they're not even remotely cool looking? They're like straight up plain rocks but she always says "this reminded me of you" and it has like. No distinguishing qualities??
- She would also give people bugs. Idk if you've seen those tiktoks where that person is in their garden at night and just grabbing various animals/insects but that's so her. She'd go "hey can you hold this rq" and it's a literal handful of worms
- she would take a bug as a pet and keep it in a container under her bed but then get nervous about getting caught and throw it out the window one night because she would also feel low-key guilty for keeping it out of its home (definitely not based off something I did as a child)
- I low-key think she knows how to like, forage? She grew up on that commune and I'm imagining the crunchiness levels were off the charts like she was definitely eating grass and sticks as a child but also knows what mushrooms/flowers will kill you
- because of this she has the immune system of a horse like she's never been sick in her life, as opposed to ocean who gets sick if you look at her wrong during flu season
- walks almost completely silently and scares everyone. Constantly. She would pop out from behind things and yell "DANGER" at them. And they would always be genuinely surprised
- had a HUGE horse girl phase like would beg for a horse every day because she read an American girl book about a ranch (I definitely didn't do this either)
- Ricky's 14th cat was a new one at the time of the accident and was named by penny. Was named nickel because then they would be matching. (And I know they're Canadian but they know about American currency shush)
- penny is kinda just Like That like, she didn't really act too different as Jane doe. She was just quieter but she would definitely go up to people reciting animal facts or stand really really close to somebody by accident and just stare at them (not to be creepy she just has an off putting vibe to her)
- your honor I don't care WHAT the Legoland script says she is a LESBIAN
- she not only collects antique dolls (we all know this by now) but she probably has at least 3 other miscellaneous collections. Or maybe they're sub-groups of dolls. Like she collects clowns, porcelain dolls and stuffed animals for example
- would definitely have at least one teddy where the face is replaced with a clay face plate that she sculpted herself to look *creepy*
- wore a lot of victorian ruffly shirts when she was alive. Kinda like Jane's in the musical but with some variety
- I am a "penny lamb short double braids" truther cause I couldn't decide what hairstyle I liked better for her
- and finally. Undiagnosed autism. But you'd really think someone would've picked up on it at some point

17, 30, 34 for any Cass related ship you'd like!
Thank you for dropping by Hannah!! Here's a Clown Car Fee for you <3
17. Who's more likely to pull the other in by the waist and kiss them passionately?
Cass for sure. He's a very affectionate boyfriend and I don't think Aeran will have it in him to refuse the kisses :3 He needs to let Aeran know he is Loved and Cared For often
30. Your OTP gets to pick out each other's outfits; what is each wearing?
Aeran's not wearing sleeves, that's for sure. Cass is not immune to the armb. Anything goes as long as his arms are bare. He likes looking at strong arms, he has a type lmao
Cass is in more figure hugging things. His personal style is mostly wide and comfy, to the point that people can not notice that he has a lean body at all. I also feel like there's also a more open front involved. Gotta show off that chest hair, after all.
34. Who's more likely to tell a dirty joke or story to make the other blush?
Aeran. Because Cass blushes so easily, and while he can be rather crude with his language and is very much accepting of the fact he finds people hot and how it affects him, he doesn't really go spreading it around or make sexual jokes that involve him and his partner to his partner. In his eyes, it just lets everyone know how woefully inexperienced he is so he just gets all :V about it if its not sarcastic, yk? And Aeran being a bastard will abuse that, as is his right and as he should.

full breakdown of batman: death in the family because I feel insane ? also no one told me knowledge of the iranian revolution would be relevant
jason is having Angst because he thought his father had walked out but batman revealed that he had actually been working for two face and two face had killed him?
jason finds a water damaged copy of his birth certificate that shows that his birth mother's first initial was 's' and wasn't catherine todd, who he grew up with as his mother. and so he's like !! what if my birth mother is alive!!
he narrows it down to three people, two of which are in the middle east, and so he runs away from home to track them down
meanwhile, batman is trying to stop the joker from selling a nuclear missile to lebanese terrorists (???)
jasons first mother suspect is an israeli secret agent? who is also part of this missile thing because the terrorists are planning on bombing tel aviv?? (oh the propaganda of it all)
batman and jason run into each other, missile isn't launched, hurray!
bruce is going to stay with jason to find the next candidate, who just Happens to be lady shiva ??? shiva and batman duke it out before he administers her with truth serum and she admits she's never had a child (cass cain was not a concept yet so whatever but like. just think about this)
meanwhile, joker has approached sheila, who is jason's last candidate, and he blackmails her into doing some terrorism with him. sheila had to flee the US because she was doing some kind of unspecified medical malpractice. she's ended up in ethiopia, distributing medical supplies
jason and bruce travel to ethiopia, and they find sheila pretty quickly and she is jason's mother hurray!
jason and bruce catch onto joker's plan (hiding lethal joker gas in the medical supply trucks, then taking the medical supplies to sell (joker is doing all of this because he's broke))
bruce tells jason to stay with sheila while he goes to stop the trucks
jason can't resist trying to help his mom, he wanders into the medical warehouse, sheila betrays them, joker kills both of them, bruce arrives. we all know this part
okay but this is not where it ends and it becomes more unhinged please help.
so bruce makes it look like it wasn't robin who died, just jason, in the explosion. he goes back home for the funeral. he wants to work completely alone now, and i would say this is kind of a big turning point.
the joker is approached by ayatollah  ruhollah khomeini (1st supreme leader of iran, islamic fundamentalist, overthrew the shah) (?????). he becomes the UN ambassador for iran
joker is coming to the US as ambassador, bruce is fucking pissed but there's nothing he can do because the joker has diplomatic immunity ???
superman shows up and he's like "hey" *meaningful hand on shoulder* "heard your kid died"
joker shows up to the UN meeting, sets off a bunch of joker gas, but then superman inhales it all ?? and saves the rest of the ambassadors. batman gets to beat up the joker (finally) and then it's all over
and so I didn't realize how fucking unhinged this story was (the xenophobia and weird propaganda of it all) but also like. every time this book is talked about people will frame it as jason running into trouble but really he just wanted to help his mom ? he wasn't being that reckless guys I'm gonna be honest. he was reckless leading up to this, yes, but this was just. he thought he could walk into a building and help one person and then he got beaten half to death . also no one ever talks about joker being UN ambassador for iran like that is genuinely insane what the fuck

supernatural s14e14 ouroboros (w. steve yockey)
these pre-ep recap music selections are all over the place the past two seasons. always keep em (me) guessin. we're on music selection #3 within this one recap! and the pace of them is all dissonant. lol. this one is alexander bornstein (marked co-composer) and christopher lennertz
(putting in my request for an episode where i don't cry please and thank you. talking about the god forsaken box and showing sam fully crying in that moment in 14x12 does not fill me with hope.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
appreciate using someone with good knife skills for the closeups. had to go look up an anatomical diagram because that seemed awfully high up in the chest cavity to be yoinking a liver out of, but i guess it's not that far off. it's right below the pecs. like the cw version of nbc hannibal
no clue what the exchange (would say flirting but to what end, to make cas uncomfortable or actual flirting) between rowena and castiel was about. very much don't remember when they were last in the same place together. rereading the summary of the last ep they were in together (14x07) and i am none the wiser
SAM Maybe it's his pet. I mean, no pictures in his phone. And, uh, this place doesn't exactly scream "snake guy". ROWENA Not enough Pantera posters, for one.
LOL what do you know about pantera rowena
Tumblr media
DEAN You know, I've got to say, I got a pretty good feeling about bringing Rowena in on this one. I think her and Sam have a chance of cracking it. CASTIEL They do have many books. DEAN Yes, they do.
laughed out loud, thanks cas. followed up by that stinkface
CASTIEL Are you really fine? DEAN I don't know, Cass. But that's what I'm supposed to say, right? "I'm fine," keep on moving? That's what we all say. CASTIEL No, Dean. DEAN Okay. There's this pounding in my head. It never stops. Michael's in there, and he is fighting hard to get out. And I can't let my guard down not for a second. I'm barely even sleeping. CASTIEL Well, that's not sustainable. DEAN No. No. It's probably not. But no point in complaining about it. It's on me. CASTIEL No. It's on us. We are here to help you. DEAN I know. I know that. And I appreciate that. I do. Look, before the kid gets back -- I know I agreed to give you guys time. CASTIEL Hey, Dean, and we will find a solution. DEAN Okay. But if -- if you don't we still have Plan B. CASTIEL Dean, come on. DEAN Coffin. Ocean. Done
Tumblr media
#we're fine #everything's fine! no coughing up blood here and needing to burn off my soul to heal it, no siree (me contemplating the logistics of getting lucifer back into nick, stabbing dean with the archangel blade real quick to heal him, then getting jack's grace back [???] from lucifer)

ROWENA Fine. Don't tell me. But using dangerous, mysterious magic, regardless of the cost, that's a very on-brand me thing to do. SAM Well, thank you. ROWENA Of course Samuel, until very recently, I was the villain.
i thought she should have stayed more the ambiguous villain type with crowley, but alas. they seem to enjoy bickering

JACK I-I can't think about losing him or -- or Sam or you. I-I just -- I hate -- I hate thinking about it. CASTIEL Yeah. So do I. But, Jack you know, Sam and Dean, they're human, and they're very extraordinary, brave, special humans, but they're -- they're still humans. And humans burn bright, but for a very brief time compared to, you know, things like us. And eventually, they're gone, even the very best ones, and we have to carry on. It's just -- It's part of growing up. JACK Losing people? CASTIEL Yes. JACK What's the point? CASTIEL The point? JACK What's the point of being a cosmic being if everyone I care about is just gonna leave? CASTIEL The point is that they were here at all and you got to know them, you. When they're gone, it will hurt, but that hurt will remind you of how much you loved them. JACK That sounds awful. CASTIEL It is. But it's also living. So when Dean wakes up -- and he will wake up -- we just have to remember to appreciate the time that we all have together now.
laughed at the agreeing it's awful. but like i mentioned in the previous episode, when you know for a fact that these people are gonna be in heaven after they die, and there are means to get to heaven, or be in heaven, then it's not so bad? ah the great devaluing of real world living
dude. did they just kill off all the generic apocalypse people??? lol ok. so now rowena gets a turn with michael, all righty
Tumblr media
JACK I'm not a child! I'm the son of Lucifer. I'm a Hunter. I am a Winchester!
ook. i dunno if it's the writing or what but not really feeling the acting sometimes with him. and this is just. goofy
Tumblr media
LOLOL i very much did not see this coming, here i was too busy scheming ways they could use the archangel blade and jack just had to use his soul magic to zap michael like sam burning out demons when juiced up on demon blood. and he got grace again - but it's michael's grace?? but without a soul (i assume)? does that make him just like. just an angel? was he able to flex wings before this? i can't remember
rip generic au people i'm glad you're gone, royally sucks you had to die to michael after all though

Rise of Flynn Rider - THOUGHTS
THE PROMISED LONGER POST ON THE RISE OF FLYNN RIDER- spoiler warning!
Ok so first off, a very brief summary: the book centers on Eugene and Arnie (Lance), childhood best friends. The orphanage they've grown up in is financially struggling, under threat by a crooked tax collector, and they're both aging out of the system; the only clue Eugene has to his parents is a letter from the woman who left him there, which is signed with a ~mysterious symbol~. When a traveling circus run by the Baron (yes, that Baron) passes through town and Eugene learns of a possible lead on his past, the two boys reinvent themselves, join up, and eventually end up entangled in a scheme to steal from the King and Queen of Corona.
I won't lie, I enjoyed this one a lot- it was a fun read, very cozy to curl up with, and even with some contradictions, it felt like a novel that was derivative of the series and set in that world. There are a lot of cameos and references, enough that I think most TTS fans will find something they like to nibble on.
Like I said in my earlier post abt the prologue and first few chapters, I'm so happy that Lance got a role alongside Eugene- he's definitely a secondary character to Eugene’s main, and he does get sidelined somewhat, but it's charming to see his friendship with Eugene and his growing passion for cooking.
'I didn't expect anything, so I'm more delighted and pleasantly surprised than genuinely unhappy with the execution' is a running theme with this book for me and basically the tl;dr of this write-up.
There are soo many cameos and little treats- I get the impression Calonita didn't have the most complete knowledge of the series, but her chats with Chris and interest in the series’ writing definitely show. King Edmund, the Stabbingtons, all of the pub thugs, Weasel, Stalyan, and the Baron all make appearances, and we get cameos from Cap, Maximus, Pascal's mother, and even Cass gets a name drop. Several series-exclusive locations are also mentioned by name- Vardaros, the Spire, and the Forest of No Return.
I'm not immune to the fannish hit of 'hey! I understand that reference!' and I really enjoyed hunting for easter eggs, so even if the presence of the pub thugs in the Baron's crew, or the boys stumbling on Rapunzel's tower in one scene and making nothing of it (yea that happened) is a lil questionable, it made me smile and I can't be mad.
I would just describe this book as 'comfy'.
(That said, I'm a little unsure who all those references are for- I feel like if you hadn't seen the series, you'd lack context and some details would be meaningless, but if you had, I think you might long for more depth and exploration...)
Structure & Progression
Here's the part where I start criticizing the book aimed at middle and elementary schoolers lmao
It's a v short book, but the plot progression still feels a little scattered- it didn’t feel quite like a heist OR a mystery. The subplot that takes up a lot of focus is actually interpersonal conflict between Lance and Eugene- and they reconcile, but not after spending much of the book in a standoff due to a misunderstanding/'liar revealed' trope.
One of Eugene's motivations for joining the circus is spotting a man with a mark on his arm that matches the one from his letter working there, and believing he'll be able to learn more abt his parents from him. He doesn't disclose this to Lance right away, and when it comes out later on, he's upset that Eugene didn't tell him- he feels tricked, and like Eugene's prioritizing his biological family over their bond. I had a hard time with this, b/c I honestly think Eugene could've literally said to Lance, 'hey, joining this circus is a great opportunity to travel, make money, send some back to the orphanage, AND I found something about my parents, will you come with me?' and Lance still would've jumped on it. Later on, there's also another similar miscommunication that deepens the rift.
It feels like manufactured drama, and I would've loved a book of the two of them just being buds, bouncing off each other, and trying to unravel the mysteries of the DK symbol and the Baron's ulterior motives together. Lance's fears of being left behind by his friend absolutely could've surfaced without the misunderstandings, especially the closer they got to the truth. (And I don't think that'd have been dissimilar to the unused 'Trial' episode concept and flashback.)
The pacing itself... meanders. After the boys complete an initiation mission to get a hold of a special key for the Baron, time passes (two weeks in-story) and there's some slice of life as they learn the ropes, get inducted into a lifestyle of thieving (it’s revealed the circus is a front for a crime ring), and get to know the Baron's crew.
I liked these parts and would've kept them in a longer book! But maybe there could've been some fine-tuning here so big events (Eugene stealing for the first time, the heist, the meeting with the mysterious Man with the Mark) weren’t so one-and-done. There are several points where nothing's really happening because the characters can't quite connect with each other, or they're waiting around for an opportunity passively, and that makes for a frustrating exp for me as a reader.
There were also lot of elements I thought were getting set up to come into play later, but not a lot of follow through? The folk hero Lance Archer is mentioned several times and has wanted posters, but we never meet him in the flesh. The Man with the Mark is revealed to be a former member of the Brotherhood(!) named Vedis(!!), but he isn't seen again after Eugene speaks with him... once. (More on this later this post is getting so long omg)
The Baron’s plan is revealed to be stealing a reward offered for the lost princess when it’s on display to the public during a festival. Eugene and Lance balk b/c stealing doesn’t sit well with them, especially when it’s from what are ultimately a family trying to find their lost child- they decide to do the right thing by foiling the scheme/stealing it back and returning it to the royals. It goes a bit pear-shaped and they’re caught, but are forgiven and face no consequences after explaining, other than being ousted from the circus/crime ring and making enemies of the Baron. Eugene hasn’t given up on finding the DK, but he realizes he already has a family in Lance, and that’s the most important thing; the two resolve to travel the world and have adventures together.
I want to make another post on it, but at the least it feels like a foregone conclusion given we know ‘Flynn Rider’ goes on to become a renown thief who steals the crown of the lost princess- that’s literally the plot of the movie, and being a dashing rogue is Flynn’s defining trait- so even aside from questionable ideas about wealth, class, and morality, the novel’s ending doesn’t fit what’s firmly established about his character, and I think big fans of Eugene might have an even harder time with that then me.
(I’m very suspicious that there might’ve been some executive meddling in an attempt to soften young Eugene’s character, and send a more palatable/upstanding message to children- it feels like Disney editing the old SW films to show Han didn’t shoot first.)
It’s def one of those novels where you can take some elements you like and leave others, but overall I’d still rly rec it for series fans! I’ve been buzzing and what-iffing about it for a few days, and I got some tasty tidbits on the characters and nods to the series, which is exactly what I wanted out of it.
And maybe it’s a funky take, but honestly I want to think of this book as the beginning of an alternate timeline where Lance and Eugene got out of crime earlier, Eugene got a clue abt his heritage by chance, and it changed his course. I think embracing the retcons and contradictions to canon makes for an interesting angle, and you’ll enjoy it more if you don’t take it too seriously.

Eris getting some of Nesta's powers and his importance in the future
Y'all I'm 90% sure some of Nesta's power has been transferred to Eris, at first it occurred to me in a sort of "ha, could be" way but I'm pretty certain, hear me out! Also going to touch on the subject of Nesta not losing her powers completely.
The power in the dagger
Nesta Made the dagger and put some of her own power into it, and then Eris got that dagger as a present by Inner Circle, which wasn't really a necessary scene nor plot point unless you read between the lines.
KINGDOM OF ASH SPOILERS AHEAD!
We have seen the exact same thing in Kingdom Ash, Aelin lost all of her power but an ember, but beforehand put it in her sword Goldryn and whooped Maeve's ass, actually head lol, with it. Having power shoot out of her hands and her sword felt pretty much the same so I'm sure Nesta will be equally powerful in the next book! Not only does she have a bit of her power left, three weapons filled with her power, and the Dread Trove. Nesta is still the most powerful character 😎
If Nesta can put some of her power into a weapon, it doesn't seem like a stretch at all for the power in the weapon to get out and into a person.
Eris only pretended to be influenced by Koschei
This one was kinda obvious to me from the moment I read it, no psychoanalyzing needed.
Nesta and her weapons were said to "probably" grant immunity from Koschei's power because they were both Made, and Eris had the dagger while he when he was captured.
Tumblr media
Every person that has been possessed by Koschei has been said to have glassy eyes, EVERYONE except Eris!
Eris's soldiers had glassy eyes.
Bellius had glassy eyes.
Cassian had glassy eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eris is the only "possessed" person to get "accidentally" caught.
Eri's soldiers said nothing, and it was Briallyn who reveal that Bellius and Cassian were possessed.
Out of Cassian, Bellius, Eris, and his soldiers, Eris is undoubtedly the slickest and most cunning one. Comparison between him and Cassian has been dragged throughout the whole book, while Cassin is the muscle, Eris plays mind games and politics.
Tumblr media
ERIS IS THE MASTER AT WORD GAMES! How did Cass and Az realize he was possessed and therefore Koschei being there? THROUGH ERIS USING A WORD GAME he knew only Cass and Az will pick up on.
Tumblr media
Are y'all trying to tell me that Eris, who supposedly had immunity from the Koschei's power, didn't show the only sign of being possessed which is glassy eyes, had accidentally said something that will let Cass and Az know he's "possessed"?
Golden flames
The word "flame" has been used in 4 different contexts throughout the book
a) actual fire in the fireplace
b) silver flames in Nesta's eyes
c) flames in Lucien's eyes
d) flames in Eris's eyes
We know that Autumn Court's power is fire, both Lucien and Eris were described to have red flames in their eyes, which is completely expected right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eris was said to have flame/red flame multiple times, but I'm only allowed ten pics per post, and obviously not gonna put quotes of Nesta's silver flames cause it's literally the title lol.
Then, when Eris was "possessed" and held a dagger to Cassian's chest, it was said that flame rippled from it, and Cass didn't know if it came from the dagger itself or from Eris.
Tumblr media
My guess? Both or combined! When Eris received the dagger, he said that it has flame in it, and Eris is said to have had flames in his eyes previously.
Last but not least, AFTER Eris had been "possessed" and AFTER the dagger was returned to the Night Court, ERIS NOT LONGER HAS RED FLAME IN HIS EYES, BUT GOLD.
Tumblr media
This was in the penultimate chapter! Aka the chapter before the last. SJM always takes great care to put something important or foreshadowish at the end of each book. The last chapter was obviously Nessian and Archeron sisters, since it was the Nessian book and the three sisters are all finally happy together (plus announcing the next book as Elain's) but chapter before that... about Eris? Interesting.
There was so much about him there I for a second thought the next book is going to be about him lol. So much to unpack in that chapter:
Eris was tortured by his father for information (which I think is the hint for Eris not being possessed).
Eris still insists there are some things about him and Mor that Mor hasn't told the Inner Circle.
He wants to explain something to Mor.
He obviously just wants to be friends with the Inner Circle (but that's a discussion for another post).
Cassian, who hates Eris with burning passion throughout the whole book, says he thinks Eris is a good guy, but is too much of a coward to act like it.
It was hinted that Beron did much worse things to Eris during his life, "The male had been raised with every luxury and privilege - on paper. But who knew what terrors Beron had inflicted upon him? Cassin knew Beron had murdered Lucien's lover. If the High Lord of Autumn had been willing to do that, what wouldn't he do?" If you ever read any SJM serials you would know that this wasn't put here just because, it's always foreshadowing with her.
"Because it doesn't add up. You know what a monster your father is and want to usurp him; you act against him in the best interests of not only the Autumn Court but all of the faerie lands; you risk your life to ally with us... and yet you left her in the woods." - Cassian. Do you see all the material for the future book?
"Eris crossed his arms, then winced. As if whatever injuries lay beneath his immaculate clothes ached." I THINK THIS IS A DESCRIPTION OF NOT ONLY ERIS'S CURRENT SITUATION, BUT HIS WHOLE LIFE. As Cass said, born in luxury, raised by a monster.
Eris is generally very fucked up? Not only was it in this last chapter, but it was stated multiple times that his upbringing really damaged him. When Cassian was surprised by the fact Beron tortured him, Eris responded with: "Get that pitying look off your face. I know what sort of creature my father is. I don't need your sympathy." That is an extremely fucked up way to respond to being tortured by one's father, and implicates he was subjected to similar misery earlier in his life.
"Nesta could see he didn't believe them - that he was so used to twisted politics and scheming of his court that even when the simple, easy truth was offered, he could not see it." Again, very messed up mindset, which in the author's language means writing material.
The last line said to Eris in the book is: "Eris was still their ally. Was willing to be tortured to keep their secrets. And Cassian didn't need to be a courtier to know his next words would slice deep, but it would be a necessary wound. Perhaps it would be enough to push him in the right direction. "You know, Eris, I think you might be a decent male, deep down, trapped in a horrible situation." He looked over his shoulder to find Eris's gaze blazing again. But only pity stirred in his chest, pity for a male who has been born into riches, but had been destitute in every way that truly mattered. In every way Cassian had been blessed - blessings that were now overflowing. So Cassian said; "I grew up surrounded by monsters. I've spent my existence fighting them. And I see you, Eris. You're not one of them. Not even close. I think you might even be a good male. You're just too much of a coward to act like it." This was said by Cassian, whom Eris insulted every time they interacted, who hurt his sister, who wanted to steal his mate, whom Cassian said he wanted to kill or leave to die on so so many occasions, who made Cassian feel stupid and insecure every chance he had, and yet Cass of all people found it in his big good heart to see the good in Eris and try to push him to be good.
And now, his eyes burn with golden flames.
There is so so much to unpack and reveal about Eris's character, and SJM couldn't be more obvious with pointing it out. He is definitely going to play a huge role in the next book(s). With his possible new powers, overthrowing Beron, healing from all the emotional and physical trauma inflicted upon him, revealing a lot of secrets he's been keeping, and finding a way to show his true colors.
Also I think Nesta might be the one to help him with it because she at some point says that she deserves to marry him because "she is just like him", and not only in a way that they both insulted Cassian. They both had/had demanding parents which made them cold and unfeeling, preferring to appear as assholes because they don't want and don't know how to be their true kind selves. I think she would a great friend and the best person to help him deal with everything.
And the way Eris obviously likes her which we've seen when they were dancing. How he saw that she really liked spinning around so he went out of his way to spin her on multiple occasions even though it wasn't in the dance protocol. I'm pretty sure that was his way of getting closer to her because he obviously can't do it with words.

Siblings: Chapter One
AO3
Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4
Summary: The Bats reflect on how their thoughts about siblings have changed over the years. Some opinions stayed, others didn't.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dick always wondered what it’d be like to have a little brother or sister.
He recalled asking his parents why he didn’t have one. Not accusatory, just curious.
His mother had smiled and said that they had their hands full plenty with Dick, and he was all they needed. His father, while still kind, said that they didn’t really have the time or resources in the circus at the moment to add another child to the family.
Dick was disappointed, but he understood the reasons.
Even still, he’d find himself staring at the kids that watched the acts with awe. Older kids lighty taunted their younger siblings, ruffling their hair and pretending they were too good for it all, and that they were doing their siblings a favor by being there. Kids who nudged their brother or sister to distract and steal the snacks from concession stands, later whispering words that’d make the other gape or giggle. Young children holding their sibling who was of toddler age or younger, pointing towards parts of the acts, their glee growing upon seeing the excitement of their sibling.
Dick hadn’t been lonely growing up in Haly’s Circus, he had his parents and the other people who worked there, from the handlers to the clowns to the tricksters.
And yet, he still found himself watching the kids who’d come in with one, or even two or three, brothers and sisters, taunting and laughing and sharing their wonder.
A sibling would’ve been nice, he thinks mournfully. It might’ve even been fun.
Ah, well. At least he had the circus.
,
“Hey, hey Dick. Dick. Dick, lookit.”
“If I turn around and I see you about to push Damian off the roof, I’m breaking your helmet.”
“You wouldn’t.”
Dick sighed, turning back from where he was keeping an eye on the streets below. Jason, who’d only been a few feet away, immediately took this moment to seize Tim, who had been too busy looking through his binoculars to care about whatever the two had been doing, and proceed to chuck him off the roof.
Dick pinched the bridge of his nose with a groan as Tim’s undignified shriek was cut off by him catching himself on a fire escape below, scrambling to get a good hold on so he didn’t fall the rest of the way.
“What?” Jason huffed. “You said not to push Damian, and I didn’t push Damian.”
“Of course,” Dick replied sarcastically. “My mistake, I’ll be sure to rephrase it as don’t push anyone off the roof.”
“Now that’s just unreasonable,” Jason huffed, hand on his hip as Steph and Cass snickered from the nearby chimney they were perched on. “I can think of plenty of people who deserve to be pushed off roofs. Like Scarow, for example. Bastard made me break my good hand last month and I still need to shoot a bullet in his back for that one.”
“Then don’t push your family off roofs, is that enough for you?” Dick sighed, standing up and peering over the edge of the roof. “You alright down there, Tim?”
“Names,” Damian finally chastised, not once having glanced over to the others from where he was on the corner of the roof, farthest as he could get from them.
“Oh, sure, now you worry.” Tim grumbled from the fire escape, finally pulling himself to his feet and brushing himself off. “Dick, please tell me I have permission to stab out Jason’s eye.”
“You do not.”
“He’d be fine!” Tim complained, snagging a hand on the stairs and instead pulling himself up along the outside of the fire escape instead of walking up the steps like a normal human being. “Harper could probably make him a new functional one in two days if she's in a good mood.”
“I’m not making him a new eye in two days. Maybe two weeks.” Harper informed from the other side of the roof, also ignoring the others as she tinkered with some gadget.
“Get anywhere near me and I’ll cough on you,” Jason threatened, also peering down off the roof. “You have basically no immune system, you’d die in a week. A long, painful death. Poetic cinema, really.”
“If you say it's poetic because you were beaten with a crowbar for two hours, I’m dropkicking you.” Steph warned, eyes narrowed.
“You’re so mean to me,” Jason gasped, placing a hand on his chest as he turned. “What did I ever do to deserve this? I’m nice to you!”
“No, you’re not.” Chorused Dick, Tim, Damian, Steph, and an extra voice through their earpieces.
“Wow, thanks, Babs.” Jason grumbled. “Showing up just to bully me, typical.”
“Names,” Damian warned a second time.
“If it makes you feel any better,” Babs crackled through their earpieces. “You’re not the only one I bully.”
“Everyone please stop harassing Jay,” Dick pleaded, though it came out more as an exhausted sigh.
“Names,” Damian growled a third time, losing his patience.
“I know it's fun,” Dick continued, ignoring him. “But this is supposed to be a scouting mission, and I’d rather he didn’t start taking out petty revenge during patrol.”
“I have no idea why he’s so surprised we get bored when scouting,” Steph mumbled quietly, to which Cass simply shrugged.
“You have no faith in me,” Jason snorted, and Dick could tell he was rolling his eyes under his helmet.
“I have plenty of faith in you,” Dick soothed. “I also, however, know how you are.”
“Don’t worry,” Steph raised a hand. “I already lost faith in you when you tried to kill Tim.”
“Which time?”
“Steph, don’t taunt him. Do it back at the Manor.” Dick lightly scolded.
“How many times do I have to repeat this?” Damian snapped, whirling from his post to glare at the others. “We do not use names on patrol!”
“Doesn’t Jon call you D on patrol?” Harper raised a brow, glancing towards him.
“That is different! He does not use my actual name!”
“Hypocrite,” Jason coughed under his breath.
Tim finally swung back onto the roof, skillfully rolling and dodging when Jason attempted to immediately kick him off again. Tim rolled close to the chimney, quickly pulling out his bo staff and crouching, glaring at Jason. It was reminiscent of two cats in a standoff, arched backs but neither of them making the first strike yet.
“Do not fight,” Cass said calmly.
“Thank you, C--” Dick hesitated, glancing at Damian for a brief moment. “--Orphan.”
“Fight in Cave,” Cass continued cheerfully. “We have sparring mats for reasons.”
“And I take that back.”
“You wanna hang with the cool kids?” Steph asked, leaning off the chimney to offer her hand.
“Yes. Have I mentioned you’re my favorite person?” Tim grinned, putting his staff away as he took the offered hand and was pulled onto the chimney beside Steph and Cass.
“You could stand to say it more often,” Steph teased.
“Cheaters,” Jason grumbled, relenting that fighting both Steph and Cass to get Tim was a losing battle.
The three were rather squished on the chimney, but none of them seemed to mind. Harper only rolled her eyes and went back to tinkering.
“We really need to bring D--Signal on one of these things.” Dick muttered, shaking his head.
“Because he’s sensible, or because you want him to suffer like the rest of us?” Tim raised a brow.
“Because he deserves the same family bonding time.” Dick said simply.
“Duke and Cullen are next to me listening in on this,” Barbara said through the communicators. “I am here to inform you that Duke is both touched and terrified.”
“The bumblebee was awake and didn’t even bother to join us?” Harper snorted. “Rude.”
“Cullen agrees with you.”
“He better,”
“I’m taking a ten hour nap after this,” Dick complained, sitting back on the edge of the roof, legs dangling in the open air as he leaned back dramatically on his hands. “I deserve it. Self-care and all that.”
“That is the length of a normal amount of sleep.” Damian raised a brow.
“Not in this family, it’s not.”
“Preach!” Tim pumped a fist.
“You don’t count, Tim.” Dick chastised, leaning his head back to look at Tim upside down. “Everyone here remembers to sleep at the latest once every two days. You don’t sleep for five.”
“I’m being harassed,”
“You’re being bullied into a proper sleep schedule.”
Damian suddenly whacked Dick over the head, startling him with a yelp as Jason hid a snicker. Harper and Cass looked over for a moment before continuing with whatever they had previously been doing.
“Names!” Damian hissed. “Do you all want your identities revealed?”
“Literally nobody is here,” Harper pointed out.
“If Gotham hasn’t found out our identities by now, they never will.” Steph snorted.
“Especially finger-stripes over here.” Tim added, a smug expression on his face.
“A nine-year-old finds out your identity one time and you never hear the end of it.” Dick muttered under his breath before sitting up and proceeding to snatch Damian, who had been previously stalking towards the others, by wrapping an arm around his chest and tugging him closer as the boy squawked.
“You were using a Flying Grayson move, dude.” Tim deadpanned. “You gotta pay the price for being flashy for no other reason than because you can.”
“That’s his entire personality.”
“Why do you all hate me?” Dick whined, holding a squirming Damian close as he gave the boy a noogie. “What did I do to gain such torment?”
“You want the list?” Harper looked up, finally putting away whatever she was tinkering with.
“We alphabetized,” Cass added.
“Wrote on the front and back,” Steph nodded sagely.
“I’m adding three more to the list when we get back,” Damian growled, looking ready to bite Dick if he didn’t stop soon.
“You better be joking about that list,” Dick warned, releasing Damian for his own safety. “Because if I ever find a list of reasons to be mean to me, I will not show mercy.”
“Do you mean you’re gonna attack us physically or emotionally?” Jason inquired.
“Emotionally,”
“You sick bastard.” Steph whispered in horror. “I can’t believe you would use your powers for evil.”
“Does it make it any better if I tell you the list, if it does exist, would probably only exist so that when we notice someone looks like they’re gonna do something stupid, we use the list to remind them of something you did so they take it out on you and not, say, turn all of Gotham into a gang war zone.” Harper said slowly.
“I hate you,” Steph glared. “You mess up one time--”
“You died, Steph!” Tim exclaimed, before getting a batarang chucked at his head that Damian somehow snuck into his utility belt.
“She didn’t even die,” Jason snorted, crossing his arms. “Both of you two had lame fake-out deaths.”
“Why am I the one who’s become the punching bag?” Dick complained, holding Damian back again when he tried to grab the batarang Tim had dodged and threw it again.
“Because you’re actually good at feelings and everyone else is emotionally constipated.” Harper deadpanned.
“And the Ric incident.” Damian added right after, giving up in his thrashing. A shutter passed over the Bats at the mention of the name.
“Aw,” Dick’s face softened, ignoring the Ric comment. “You guys care about my advice?”
“Congrats,” Barbara chuckled slightly. “You’re the therapist brother.”
“Don’t tell him that,” Jason groaned, flopping backwards on the roof. “Now he’s going to be mushy and clingy all week.”
“Lord knows you idiots need it,” Harper huffed as Dick practically glowed.
“I’m sicing him on you later.”
“Jokes on you, he hasn’t found my apartment yet.”
“Yes I have,” Dick raised a hand, turning towards her. “Well, Robin found it, but I still know it.”
Harper stared at him for a few moments, momentarily turning her head to Damian for a moment before going back to Dick, and then turning to Jason.
“You’re a monster,” She whispered, a look of true horror on her face.
“I know,” Jason cackled gleefully.
“None of you are leaving the Manor when we get back.” Dick said matter-of-factly, pointing a finger to his siblings. “We’re gonna bond, and you’re going to like it.”
“We’re already bonding right now!” Damian protested.
“You’ll have to kill me first.” Steph hissed, shying behind Cass.
“Bold of you to assume you can keep me confined to the Manor.” Tim huffed in offence. “Orphan, I’ll stash you in one of my safe houses if you promise to be my bodyguard.”
“Deal,”
“You guys are so dramatic--”
“Hey, guys? Crazed pyromaniac with flamethrowers to the north.”
The group immediately dropped whatever they had been doing, heads snapping up towards the direction Barbara had tiredly informed them of the attack.
It was only a few moments before the sight of flames peaked over one of the buildings, dying out almost immediately. Shouts and rumbles were steadily growing in volume, especially the cackling of Firefly, likely revving up whatever weapon he’d acquired this time.
“Fantastic, can’t even keep watch with you morons.” Damian growled.
“Oh you are not the only one trying to work here!” Tim snapped. “Orphan, for example, is doing a wonderful--where’d she go?”
He and Steph looked around rapidly, their sister suddenly missing from the chimney. How they hadn’t noticed she’d left their crowded space was a mystery that’d likely never be solved.
“Over there,” Jason said boredly, upholstering a gun and pointing across the rooftops.
The outline of Cass’s body could be seen sprinting across the roofs towards where the fire had been spotted, leaping with reckless abandon.
“Life lesson for the rest of you,” Harper hummed, getting to her feet. “Be like Cass.”
“Stop using real names!” Damian barked.
“Last one there is on cleanup duty!” Steph hollered, shoving Tim and taking off in the same movement.
“Asshole!” Tim yelled as Jason, Harper and Damian all bolted after her without a moment's hesitation.
Dick laughed, just getting to his feet as Tim stumbled up and after the others, swearing obscenities.
He quickly ran after his siblings, though he strayed a little further back, nobody paid attention to who showed up last anyway, his eyes darting from each of his siblings. Someone had to make sure they didn’t face-plant off a roof.
They shouted over each other as they descended down to take out Firefly. The guy had really picked a bad night to start causing trouble. It’d be over in no-time.
Even still, Dick paused on the roofs, scanning the streets below as the others ran to and fro, yelling over each other as Barbara switched between the coms to talk to them. It was a chaotic mess and Dick found himself grinning at it all.
His siblings were a hot mess, and it was amazing.

I love stories where Bruce have one normal kid, who usually doesn’t know the family vigilante nonsense and have a rather lonely (father always at work, brothers and sisters scattered all over the world, only pets and old butler in large mansion), but calm childhood.
Can you write reactions of Batfamily, when they find out that older!batkid, who is now working as a lawyer, was assigned to persuade court to execute the Joker and prove that his actions are actually premeditated? And Batkid managed to do that in legal terms and every state of America is seeing the court broadcasting this case on TVs?
(Lol, it’s the same batkid from other another ask — where Joker tries make the batkid his protégée. Bruce made kid to think that he had a bad immune system and had to be isolated for his whole childhood, so the kid doesn’t remember about family panic about his encounters with Joker)
Ok, let's knock out the obvious reactions first...
Jason is DYING. This man just randomly bursts into fits of laughter anytime he remembers what you're doing. Also he's low-key super proud, but like he tries to not be obvious with it, because having to explain that you're succeeding where he failed probably wouldn't go over well.
Bruce is also dying, but in a lot less fun way, and he's trying to keep an extremely tight lid on it. On the one hand this is his kid, and he's super proud of the way you're handling everything, but on the other hand... the ways of the Bat are deeply in grained in him, and that part still refuses to believe the Joker can't be helped.
Dick is more or less indifferent to what they do with Joker at this point, as long as her never allowed out into society again. However he finds it quietly hilarious, that even if you don't know it, a member of the batfam is still responsible for stopping Joker from hurting anyone else.
Tim, having been kidnapped by this psychotic clown a few too many times, has said - and I quote - "Fuck that bitch." Completely unashamed, and said it again to Bruce's face.
Stephanie and Cass have both also fallen into the "sorry, not sorry" category as well, though they're not quite as blunt about it as Tim is. Though Steph did get into a shouting match with Bruce when he tried to argue with Tim about it all.
Duke isn't necessarily in favor of killing the Joker, but he gets why other people are. Also, having seen Joker making more escapes than should have ever been permitted, Duke can kind of agree that this is probably the only way to keep him from hurting any more people.
Alfred is just to tired and ready for this particular shitshow of a chapter to be done with so he can possibly have the chance to enjoy his by now well earned retirement.
((And as a slight bonus - My personal favorite of the 'one normal child' ideas, is nonvigilante!batkid finding out about the family crazies as a late teen/early college age, and everyone's worried they're going to want to start it as well. Meanwhile normal child is just like "Nope, thanks, it's cool. I'm actually quite happy being Alfred's favorite, cause he doesn't have to worry about me doing dumb and extremely dangerous things at 3 am"))

Tommy and Ranboo call Tubbo Stripes, due to his love of bees, and cats. It’s a pattern both species share.
Tubbo’s alias is Tabby Cat, because, y’know. Stripes. Bees and cats.
I’m working on it.
Despite feeling drawn to each other, the three were still quite weary of each other, due to their occupations, and general survival instinct. It was actually Ranboo who took the first step. After finding out about Tubbo’s love for bees, he showed the boy part of the garden where they roamed in abundance. From there, Tubbo reached out to Tommy to help him out of a sticky situation, and so on, and so forth.
The Bench Trio has a complicated relationship with the Crusaders of Gotham.
They get along great with the Robins. Jason was like an older brother to them, and returned to that once the Pit died down. Tim and Tubbo can be found hanging out, sharing tech ideas and chatting. Tommy and Ranboo both find Damian amusing and look out for him.
It’s the same for the Batgirls, for the most part. They respect Barbara and consider her an older sibling figure. Cass can chill with them when things get overwhelming. Steph and Tommy like to rough house.
Batman…none of them really get along great with him.
For everyone else, it just depends on who.
Oh, I have an idea for Ranboo. Hellebore or Helleborus, maybe? A large part of them is poisonous, and they can represent both serenity and anxiety, so it’d have the duality. Plus, they come in white and black.
While both Ranboo and Tommy can get away with killing a lot easier, Tubbo has more trouble. It’s basically this whole thing about Batman holding Catwoman to a different standard because she’s more of a thief, and, because Tubbo’s her apprentice, he’s also held to those standards.
He wouldn’t care, but he knows if he ever does end up killing, the Bat will be on his back. And Selina will stand by him, even if it means becoming a true enemy of Gotham’s Dark Knight-he basically just wasn’t her in trouble for his actions.
Like Ivy had done to Harley, once Ranboo was skilled enough, he developed his own serum for the Bench Trio. Both rejected it at the original time it was offered, but Tommy would later come across it again and inject it, making him stronger, faster, and immune to poison, like Harley.
Some point shortly after Red Hood starts being able to manage the Pit Rage, the Joker decides to make his come back by snatching the Bench Trio.
Long story short, it ends with Ranboo dead, Tubbo traumatized, and Tommy eventually spiraling into a quest for vengeance against the Joker-which is why he decides to take the mentioned serum when he finds it again.
Ranboo is later revived though, through a mixture of lingering respawn magic, and Lazarus waters, though he doesn’t reveal himself until a bit after, struggling to control the Pit’s effects on him.
Tubbo wears a blond wig with brown streaks when going out as Tabby Cat, to further distance himself from Tobias Kyle, the ward of Selina Kyle.
He’s the only one to have a secret identity, and honestly, it’s amazing that nobody’s connected the dots with how many times he’s been ‘kidnapped’ by two thirds of the Bench Trio and never seen in the room with the third.
Of course, the following rumors, and having to deal with Robin ‘rescuing him’ is somewhat worse.
They all take the opportunity to be as dramatic as possible, and he hates it. Selina’s dabbing her ‘teary’ eyes, Ranboo’s holding him a knife-point with a rose that’s literally thornless, Robin’s struggling to bite back laughter, and Tommy’s not even bothering.
It’s just terrible. They do this like every other Sunday, how nobody has caught onto to it being a bit amiss, he has no idea, and no hope for Gotham.

Timothy Jackson Drake-Wayne had just woken up on his once-a-month mandatory rest day when he saw that the Drake Family Lawyer contacted him about a contingency letter left by his mother. Apparently, word of mouth travelled fast that he had come back from his supposed soul-searching trip around his parent’s favorite dig sites.
Mr. Fletcher had asked him when he was free to come get the letter his mother had left for him. Tim had wanted to get out of Gotham as soon as he could so he set up an appointment for that afternoon.
Tim had whipped together a quick breakfast and taken his antibiotics before he spent the rest of the morning finalizing his 2 weeks’ notice since Bruce had been able get back into Wayne Enterprises for the week. It had just been a little over a month since Tim had brought Bruce home from the Time Stream and while Tim had expected things to change, he had hoped it would be for the better.
Bruce hadn’t even blinked at the sight of Damian wearing the Robin suit. Hell, he had congratulated Dick for the way he had managed to keep Gotham and everything in line. Bruce had even found the time to fix up his relationship with Jason before he talked to Tim.
He didn’t even bother to thank Tim for saving his life and for taking over his family business. Instead, they talked business and acted as if nothing was wrong in front of the WE employees. If it wasn’t in business suits, then it was in the other suits when he called in Red Robin to help with a case. Tim hasn’t stepped foot inside the Manor in months.
If this was Bruce’s way of saying he didn’t need Tim anymore, he got the message loud and clear. After all, he was just the replacement, right? The pretender who forced his way into their lives and refused to go peacefully so he had to be kicked out. Well, here he was, bowing out silently out of their lives.
Tim had planned meticulously for how he would be able to leave without them noticing. In a week, he would submit his 2 weeks’ notice to Lucius Fox before heading on business trip to Japan to finalize a deal. He would be spending the next week there before heading to Austria for another week for another business deal. After, he would simply go wherever he wanted to go.
He preprogrammed a message to be sent to each of the Bats, as a farewell of sorts because even if they didn’t think of him as family, he still loved them as if they were his family. He had even prepared a message for the Titans in case they would ever need him again. They were the only ones Tim trusted enough to keep in contact with. Everyone else, even Alfred would have to be left behind.
Tim viciously pushed these thoughts to the side as he decided to enjoy a quick lunch before he made his way to talk to Mr. Fletcher. As he mindlessly prepped ingredients for a simple salad (because his immunity was shot so he needed all the help he could get), he wondered what would be in the letter.
His mother was not the touchy-feely type. She wouldn’t put something about them loving him. Most likely, it would be business instructions to ensure that Drake Industries would still be the empire that it had been under his mom’s command. Unfortunately for his mom, his dad had been the one to wreck the empire.
Tim had thought about reviving Drake Industries but had ultimately decided it wasn’t worth it. The amount of time that went into running a business wasn’t conducive to being a teenage vigilante and Tim wanted to be free to pursue the things he wanted in life. He had more than enough money to live off on and he had invested his money wisely so it had been turning a profit since he had left Gotham the first time.
Even if he continued his vigilantism, he had more than enough money to support himself. He didn’t need their help anymore, just like they don’t need him anymore. As he started cooking his breakfast, he marveled at how he had gotten to this point of independence from the Bats.
Ever since he came back with Bruce in tow, the rest of the Bats didn’t even bother to contact him unless it was for patrol or for a case. Oracle only kept in contact for business. Dick basically ignored their issues and tried to pretend they didn’t exist. Damian liked to act as if he didn’t exist. Jason was, oddly enough, the only one he could stand even if they did only work together for cases. Cass was still in Hong Kong.
If he was being honest with himself, Tim desperately missed being home at the Manor but after everything happened, it was clear that the Manor was no longer his home. Home used to be with the Bats and occasionally, with the Titans. Now, Tim would have to find a new home for himself, hopefully away from Gotham and the Bats.
Tim ate his salad mindlessly while he let his mind wander on his active cases. He would need to tie up his loose ends before he left without the bats taking notice. He popped his next dose of antibiotics into his mouth after and finally decided that he’s wasted enough time to start getting ready for the appointment.
After a quick shower and change of clothes, Timothy Drake-Wayne was ready and presentable to the public again. Tim debated bringing his motorcycle but the address of the office was only a couple of blocks from his apartment and he could use the walk to clear his head and get some fresh air.
As he left his penthouse, Tim’s mind debated again about what his mother could have possibly written about. His inheritance had already been secured since he was born so it couldn’t be that. The business had already sunken and drowned under the guidance of his father. It didn’t make any sense for Janet Drake to write a contingency letter and yet, here it was.
Tim didn’t know why but every step felt like it was weighed down with lead and his stomach dropped as he got closer and closer. By the time he was at the office, Tim’s mind was buzzing about theories as to what could have been so important for him to know that his mother, famed Iron Dragon of Gotham wrote a letter just in case she died.
Mr. Fletcher must have been eagerly awaiting him by the looks of it since Tim had scarcely knocked on the office doors before it was opened. It’s been a while since Tim had seen Mr. Fletcher given that he had retired before the Drakes passed.
“Timothy, you’re early!”
“Mother taught me that it was better to be early than to waste other’s time. It’s nice to see you again, Mr. Fletcher.”
“That does sound like something Janet would preach. I wished we’d met again under more ideal circumstances but you’ve grown into a fine young man. Your parents would be proud.”
“Thank you. Your email mentioned a letter from Mother?”
“Ah yes! As you know, ever since my son took over my position at the firm, I had relinquished all of my active duties to him but this was more of a request made by your mother to me as a confidant and friend. Jacob, my son had been cleaning out my office a few days ago when he found the envelope. He contacted me immediately about it and I remembered what it was about. I made the trip out here because I had to give it to you before I forgot again. I owe your mother that much.”
“What do you mean, Mr. Fletcher?”
“I think it’s best for you to read it, Timothy. I already know what it contains but I’m here to answer any of your additional questions.”
This suddenly seemed like a much bigger deal than Tim originally thought it would be, especially since Mr. Fletcher had left his retirement in Metropolis to give this to him in person. With bated breath, Tim opened the sealed envelope and began to read.
~~~
Dearest Timothy,
If you are reading this, then there are two possible options. Either I have passed on before your 18th birthday or I was too much of a coward to talk to you about this in person and I gave you this letter instead. As I write this, your father is asleep, holding you after a nightmare from today’s ordeal at the circus. I have tried to sleep but my mind will not be quieted about the possibility of that happening to us before I could tell you the truth so I decided to make this contingency letter just in case. By the time
you’re reading this, you will have grown into an intelligent young man who I know is capable of so much more than Jack and I could have ever dreamed of, partially because you are more than Jack and I could ever produce.
Timothy, you are not our biological son. I had gotten pregnant but the child I had borne was stillborn. Jackson Timothy Drake hadn’t been able to take his first breath before it was taken away. Luckily for me, your father was out of town on business and I rushed to Gotham General against my earlier wishes and they had stuck me in a room with another woman who had given birth to a beautiful and healthy baby boy, you.
You were both born on the same day, in the same room, with different fates. Your mother was a young woman from the seedier side of Gotham and your father was out of the picture, or so she said. She was planning to give you up for adoption anyway and so I made the only impulsive decision I have ever made since marrying Jack and I told her to give you to me. I told her I would give you the life of luxury you deserved and that you would never want for anything if she gave you to me. She agreed on one condition: I tell you the truth about your parentage on your 18th birthday so that she could have the opportunity to get to know you too.
She didn’t even let me pay for her hospital bills because she didn’t want to be indebt to me even though I was forever indebted to her for giving me you. I had John rush over to Gotham General and make a contract for both of us because I could not allow Jack and the rest of Gotham High Society to find out about this. The only ones who knew about you being adopted were me, John, your mother and the medical staff who helped us. Since Gotham General was severely underfunded prior to my intervention, it was easy to get them to change the records to make Timothy Jackson Drake be born and for Jackson Timothy Drake to disappear. I had gotten the staff involved to sign NDAs and to make sure that none of this got out.
As I write this, I have seen you grow into this absolutely marvelous and intelligent child, talented in ways I could have never expected. It is bittersweet for me because as I see you grow, I cannot help but think of what my biological son could have been had he survived. Would he be as smart and as capable as you? Would he be different compared to you? Would I have taken you in had he survived? I have never regretted my decision to adopt you but I could not stand to watch you grow when I know my biological son never will. I know I will most likely grow to be distant from you and I already regret it but I cannot stop myself from seeing my dead son in you.
However, I can already tell you will be stronger than I ever could be. You take to your lessons like a duck to water and you see a magic in the world that I could never see. I want you to know that even if you are not mine biologically, I still love you even if I cannot show it. I love you even if you cannot feel it. I love you but I also love the son that I lost and I cannot help but mourn for him while I watch you grow. Your father does not know so his love is genuine and pure for you.
I want you to know this, Timothy. I took you in on an impulsive decision but I have never regretted it. Sure, I wish with all of my heart and mind that my son had survived but I was able to have you and you more than made up for it. I know that this does not excuse my future actions, my possible neglect of you but I hope you understand why I cannot bear to be close to you. I love you even if I do not show it. I love you even if you cannot see it. I love you and I hope you can forgive me for not telling you sooner.
Love,
Mother
~~~
Of all of the possibilities Tim had considered, this was not one of them. This explained so much but also left so many questions but the only thought passing through his head was the fact that, even at birth, he was a replacement.
“I assume you have questions?”
“I’m still trying to wrap my head around it, to be honest. You’ve known the entire time?”
“Yes. I was the one who made the contract for your mother and she swore me to secrecy.”
“So, let me get this straight. I was just a replacement for her son who died?”
“No! Of course not. Timothy, I know it must not have seemed like it but your mother and father truly did love you as if you were their own. Your mother has some leftover problems from her childhood that negatively impacted her ability to show her love even if she does. She would have never bothered to put in the effort otherwise.”
“I’m trying to believe that but my recollection of Mother is not that different from the Iron Dragon of Gotham.”
“That’s because she fought to give you the best education and care possible which she knew was not her own. That’s why she constantly changed your nannies and tutors because as soon as she felt they inadequate for you, she was searching for the next best thing for you. Janet didn’t really care in the normal ways, Timothy. I know it’s hard to see but she really did love you and take care of you in her own way.”
“I just. I never expected this.”
“I knew this day would come but I was honestly hoping your mother would be here to explain her side of the story before she told you who your birth mother was.”
“Do-do you know who my birth mother is?”
“It’s not written in the letter?” Mr. Fletcher seemed genuinely surprised at this.
“No. Mother didn’t include her name, just a vague description of her. Can you tell me who my mother is?”
“I guess by the time Janet wrote it, she had forgotten the name. I think I have the contract hidden here. Let me look for it.”
What followed was the tensest five minutes of Tim’s life. He didn’t even know if his biological mother was still alive but he wanted to find out. After all, his birth mother had wanted to reconnect when he was older. Maybe, she wanted to have him in her life, just like Mo-Janet had apparently wanted him in her life.
Maybe, she would be there with welcoming arms. Maybe, she was one of the many civilian casualties of their nighttime escapades. Maybe, she had gotten lost in the seedier side of Gotham and she had never been able to make it out. There were so many maybes that Tim wanted to figure out what was true and what wasn’t.
“Aha! Here it is. According to this, your birth mother is Selina Kyle.”
Holy shit. His mother was fucking Catwoman.

Finding Us chapter 23
At last I have managed to sort out this latest chapter, and I am now presenting it to you fine readers! I hope you guys enjoy it! This one's featuring Jason and a round table "Ah ha!" kind of moment.
AO3 Link
~
“Are you planning to stay there all day?” Bruce asked, as Jason dropped a sky blue pencil and replaced it with a green one.
Jason looked up from his place on the training mats and grinned at his dad, “Yep.” he answered, popping the ‘P’, “I did ask you if you wanted to join, and you said you were busy.”
Currently, he was laying across the training mats on his stomach. His new coloring book thanks to Cass and Tim was splayed out in front of him. He’d filled in random parts of a page as he picked and chose colors in a dance of chaos he was sure would have Damian’s hair on end if the kid had been watching him.
He was doing his best not to get kicked out. But from Bruce’s tone, and almost constant swivel between Jason and the computer’s loading screen Jason figured his luck was running thin. So far though, Jason had been immune to Bruce’s ability to shoo every other one of his children out of the cave.
They had a truce and a tiny part of Jason’s mind was interested in seeing how far he could push his dad’s patience. Another part of him --the part that had brought him downstairs in the first place-- just wanted to make sure Bruce wasn’t pushing himself too hard. There was really no reason for B to have planted himself in front of the computer other than because he was punishing himself. For missing the signs Tim was being stalked, for just not keeping a close enough eye on his sons, or for a hundred other things Jason could think of.
“You are still welcome to color in a picture of a teddy bear, or a swear word that has all the important letters turned into symbols, which really? Is a waste of a perfectly good swear word.”
Bruce snorted. Jason counted that as a win.
Jason shifted a bit, and pushed himself a little higher on his elbows watching Bruce, “You know, sitting there won’t change the wait time the computer gave you.”
“I’m working.”
“On what?”
Bruce grunted and shrugged his shoulders at the computer. The message was clear: Stuff. Things. Batman related work.
Jason rolled his eyes and threw his green colored pencil at his dad. It clattered to the ground about halfway between them. He hadn’t expected it to land, and really didn’t know why he’d thrown it in the first place.
“Jason.” Bruce’s tone was long-suffering. A father pushed almost to his limit.
“ Dad .” Jason said, pushing a little further.
This, at last, got Bruce to look over at him. Jason wasn’t sure he’d ever get used to the way Bruce looked at him when he called him Dad now. When he’d been a kid Bruce would look warm, happy, kind of like Jason felt whenever Damian or Tim decided to lean on him.
Now, he looked a bit like a deer caught in headlights. Like he still couldn’t believe he’d heard that word from Jason. Like he’d just found his son again. And honestly? Jason didn’t blame him for the surprise. He hadn’t been sure they’d ever get here either. But after their talk in the study Jason was trying it out more and more. And it felt good. Right. Like home.
The surprise faded after a moment as Bruce’s face softened, letting in that breath of warmth he’d used to have.
“Join me, and let the computer do its job. No one will blame you for moving a few feet away for half an hour. No one blames you for missing what Timbo was so obviously trying to hide.”
“I am not going to lay on the floor.”
Jason grinned, “I’d be happy to move to a table.”
He shifted the coloring supplies to one of the work tables, his elbows and knees grateful for the reprieve from laying on the floor. Jason shoved the fallen green pencil in Bruce’s hand and left his dad to start working on a page of his choice while he made some tea on the cave’s little stove. No need to call Alfred down for something they had all the supplies for down here.
Bruce’s shoulders had just started to relax when the computer beeped indicating it was done running whatever program Bruce had set it to work on. The next instant, B was up from the table, pencil clattering onto the forgotten book and striding over to the computer.
Jason was a few steps behind him, his stomach churning. On the screen, Bruce had pulled up an image of a man who looked remarkably like Damian’s sketch. The kid was really good. As Jason took in the man’s face, his fists curled. The stalker or not, this guy was at the very least in cahoots with the person bothering Tim, and for that Jason wanted to take him down a peg or two.
“Get the others.” Bruce said, “I’m pulling up known associates now.”
Bruce didn’t have to tell Jason twice. He spun on his heel and made his way back up to the manor. He caught Dick hovering by the entrance and sent him down straight away. Then found Cass and Steph with Alfred playing cards. It took him longer to find Tim and Damian. He’d assumed both would be brooding in their rooms and came up short when he didn’t find either of them there.
Tim’s laptop was gone from his room, and so Jason assumed the kid would have probably moved to work on it somewhere else in the house. He went for the library first and cheered internally at his good luck. Both boys were together.
“Hey Short Stacks, we figured out who Dames met earlier. B wants everyone downstairs.”
Both boys looked at each other and then back at Jason, nodding.
“Excellent. It seems everything is beginning to coalesce.” Damian said, standing.
Tim looked at his laptop for a long moment, as if trying to decide if he wanted to take it or leave it. He settled on leaving it, and soon followed Damian around the desk.
“Did he say who it was?” he asked.
Jason herded them out the door, “I didn’t memorize the guy’s name. Besides, B had already moved on to looking up his partners. Hopefully you’ll spot someone you know.”
He paused and added, “Not that I’m hoping it’s a friend of yours or anything--you know what I mean.”
His brother waved off his concern, “I get it. We’ll find him a lot faster if I can give one of the associates an I.D.”
When the three of them made it down to the cave, they walked into a room full of chatter. Someone had dragged a few chairs over to rest by the computer. Alfred was planted in one, with Steph in another. Cass was perched on the desk by the computer, and Dick was leaned against Bruce’s chair. The big man himself hadn’t seemed to have moved from where Jason had left him.
Tim crowded up next to Dick, with Jason following close behind. He noted that Damian was hanging back just a bit. Probably because he’d already seen the guy in the flesh.
“Alright, we’re all here. Spill the beans, B-man.” Jason said.
Bruce grunted, but then after a moment he began to speak, “The man Damian met is named Mark Sherman. He’s got a criminal record, mostly for low level stuff, no stalking or kidnapping on his sheet though.”
After a few clicks the man's image was back up on the computer for everyone to see. Below his name, Jason could read his basic criminal history, and some general information about him like his age and height. He didn't seem like the worst that could come out of Gotham. Definitely someone who would hand over a creepy letter for enough money though.
“That is the man I saw.” Damian confirmed, with a sharp nod.
Bruce clicked something else on the computer. “Here’s the list of his known associates. I’ve narrowed it down to the most likely suspects. Tim, or any of you, let me know if they seem familiar.”
Jason watched carefully as six men and women’s images showed up on the screen. After less than a minute Dick, Tim, and Stephanie all three pointed at one of the men on the screen.
“Harry Ferst.” Dick said.
“But wait, he currently works for Wayne Enterprises.” Stephanie said, finger shifting down to aim at the information listed under his name, “What’s he got against Tim?”
All eyes turned to their second youngest.
“It might not be him?” Tim shrugged, “He could be another guy working with--” he sighed, “It’s probably him, but I can’t remember why he’d be so mad at me he’d stalk and threaten me.”
“Think harder, then.” Damian snapped, “You must have done something to incur his wrath.”
“Like I did something to incur yours when you arrived?” Tim shot back.
Jason expected Damian to return another volley, instead his mouth shut and he crossed his arms. He turned to glare at the computer screen.
“What does the man’s reason even matter? He is worth checking out at the very least. If he is not Drake’s stalker then he may be another lead.”
Tim snapped his fingers, “That’s it! He was up for promotion, back when Bruce was lost in the timestream. Except I was taking over certain things back then and more than one application was denied in all the restructuring. If he feels like his work doesn’t matter, and sees it as my fault--”
“That could be the source of his anger.” Jason nodded, “Especially if he was banking on that promotion or if he’s been passed up even more times after that.”
It made sense, Bruce had been the source of the same type of anger often enough, Lucius Fox too, and really anyone with any high ranking at the company. Tim mixing things up while Bruce had been gone was totally enough to put a target on him, one that would flare up into blame if something else incited Harry’s anger.
Bruce nodded, “I agree.”
Jason blinked, having almost forgotten the man was there. Bruce had let them sort it out together, which was nice. And looking at him now, Jason knew the man had already figured out the same things they had, but he was proud all the same. That stupid quirk of his mouth proved just that.
“So, who gets to go after him?” Jason asked.
“I--” Tim spoke up only to be interrupted by Bruce.
“You are staying home.”
Tim glowered at him and crossed his arms, “I’d like to go after the guy who’s been stalking me.”
“And we’d like you to stay safe.” Dick pointed out.
“I’ll be Red Robin!” Tim argued, “He’s not going to see me and go ‘Oh look Tim Drake my arch nemesis who’s also apparently a super hero!”
Jason snorted and crossed his arms, “I think we all want a piece of the guy who's been stalking one of our own. Unfortunately, he’s not exactly the type that really needs the whole family to take him down. I think our energies are best spread out.”
“Jason’s right.” Bruce said.
“Oh?” Jason perked up, “Are the cameras recording this because a miracle has occurred!”
Bruce ignored him and continued, “Dick and I are going to take care of Ferst. Jason you’ll be back up in case we need you, but until then I want you back on reconnecting with your Alkali contacts. Girls, I’d like you patrolling close in the area. Damian--”
“I will stay behind.” Damian said.
Jason dropped his arms, “What?”
There had to be some trick to it. Damian didn’t just stay behind. Ever.
The kid rolled his eyes, “You wish someone to keep an eye on Drake correct? He will stay because he does not wish to face Father’s wrath if I am caught sneaking out and I will stay because I do not wish the same if he is.”
The room was staring at Damian now.
“What?” he glared, “I am not an idiot. I know the way this family works, and I know my own tendencies. It was the obvious decision.”
Jason laughed, “Kid’s got a point.”
“Fine.” Tim declared, “You all win. Damian and I will stay here and be useless .”
“You’re not going to be useless,” Bruce said, sounding tired, “Barbara told me you’d been working on decrypting Alkali files. I want you to keep working on that.”
“You have been spearheading that part of the project.” Dick pointed out, “It’d be a shame if someone else figured it out before you did.”
Tim and Damian looked at each other. It was a brief glance, one that neither seemed to realize they’d even done. Jason frowned, cataloging it with their weird reluctance from earlier. Something felt off about it, but he couldn't quite place what it was.
Then Tim was shrugging, “You all will let me know the moment you’ve got the guy right?”
“Of course.” Dick nodded.
“Right then.” Tim said, “Let’s all get to it.”
