WHAT IF GWYN IS ALSO HELION'S DAUGHTER?
So I was thinking
Well, not thinking, I'm listening to the graphic audio of ACOSF and I'm in the chaper of Nesta hearing Gwyn singing and when she said "A faint glow" I was like 'hold up sis'
We know Helion sleeps around. We know he has one illegitimate son (hot fire sexy Lucien) and we know he-well, he is a play boy, let's not lie.
So, what if the glow in Gwyn when she sings is not because she is a lightsinger but because she is Helion's daughter and has his light power?
We are all expecting for the reveal of Lucien's parentage, and I am honestly waiting to hear more about Gwyn's life before Hybern.
Is this a crazy theory?
And if it's not a theory but a fact, how weird do you think it will be for Azriel and Elain when they find out their mates are actually half siblings?
I'm down for this.

I don't know how to explain this exactly, but I feel that some people in this fandom, especially not the casual readers, but those who 'study' the books, for lack of a better term 'over-read'. The desire to find SOMETHING--anything--that's bad or inappropriate or controversial--overrides common sense.
Today in the morning a video came across my dash, where the girl was talking with utmost seriousness that the Night Court is an 'apartheid state', that Rhys is a violent dictator, that he forces his own people people to stay underground (Hewn City folks), that Illyrian women aren't allowed in Velaris and much more of the same.
And at some point, you have to ask yourself--why are you reading this? But besides that, what was the intent of the author? Do you really REALLY think that SJM was writing the NC as an apartheid state? That people aren't allowed to do certain things on purpose? That her favourite character--Rhysand--is subjugating his subjects and is a power-mad misogynist?
I guess I just don't get it. If you so dislike the main characters, why are you reading? Also, throughout the books, some of these things are explained--how Rhys can't change certain thing because then he WOULD become a dictator. It's a magical society where people live forever, so it's not like there is generational change. There are a ton of things that could be said about all of this, but really, apartheid state? At some point, just walk away, because you are starting to sound unhinged.
Like every time when I see that Azriel is an incel, who scares women and doesn't understand boundaries, etc. Obviously, anyone can 'theorise' anything, but do they think that the intent was to write him as such? Or when people say that Azriel wants to use Elain as a sex toy. If you consider this logically, for just a second, anyone can and would understand that that's not the case at all.
I don't know...At a certain point, you just have to stop and not analyse ACOTAR like it's it's a work on international historical assessment of feminist intersectionalism in the apartheid state of Prythian. Just, calm the fuck down, I guess.

For those attacking SJM in instagram take a chill pill ๐Ÿ’Š here I will give you one for free. Guys letโ€™s remember you donโ€™t need to read hofas to understand ACOTAR so why would she put very important acotar stuff in hosaf. It makes not sense , this is another series nothing major was going to happen with the acotar characters , however you do need to read acotar to understand CC she said this on her interview not the other way around. SJM writing very important information on hosaf about ACOTAR would have force people to read cc to understand acotar 5 ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ. When she said that you donโ€™t need cc to understand acotar was a give away nothing major was going to happen to acotar characters in HOFAS. To me this people attacking sjm were thinking CC was going to be an acotar book in some way or another. They wanted their acotar theories to be confirmed in another series and thatโ€™s not how it works. In my opinion SJM did the right thing by keeping crossover to the minimum because than she would have been lying in the interview. I just think people getting mad because their favorite acotar character didnโ€™t save the day on another whole ass series is kinda immature and dumb. Love feyre to death and i hope we get more of her in the future but she already had her books, I love elain to tears but we she need to have her own book our girl deserves that. This is bryce book letโ€™s keep that in mind when we get to read the HOFAS.

To each their own and you can be indifferent towards Elain, but to HATE her because sheโ€™s not a โ€œfighter/warriorโ€ just baffles me. LISTEN, you donโ€™t have to be swinging a blade around to be a heroine or to be badass. I want SJM to write a beautiful, empowering Elain novel just to prove that the sweet, more reserved girls can also be a hero and can also change the world. SJM has done this before. See: Elide from TOG. That girl had a limp, stammered, and was described as the girl everyone had forgotten but she literally held one of the key pieces in her hand and her quiet determination and perseverance led her to her goal. Theyโ€™re not the same person obviously but the point is: Not all heroes need to be swash buckling. Romance aside, at least give Elain the chance to BLOOM. Thatโ€™s all. Like, damn. ๐ŸŒธโœŒ๏ธ

Since you have a literature degree I have a serious question: do you think Sarah maas is a good writer? Cause tbh her books are my ultimate comfort literature and I love them to death. But her pacing is off a lot, she often does the opposite of โ€œshow, donโ€™t tellโ€ and 70% of the time a problem or a core issue gets explained by โ€œitโ€™s always been this way in this world and no one knows whyโ€. Also lots of her side characters lack depth and I think sheโ€™s afraid to write characters who arenโ€™t extremely pretty and/or more skilled than anyone else.
Actually sugar I do think she is a skilled writer. For me her greatest attribute is the way she manages to create characters that have depth and feel like real people. To me this extends to her side characters. Of course some do get more development than others but I say in general she aims to dig deep with the people she presents on page, the way we dig deep with real life people. Her portrayal of abuse, trauma and healing shows understanding and empathy which are key when you write -even when the characters are assholes-. And the way one was able to map Feyre's journey through the way she engaged with her sexuality remains a victory in my eyes.
I find her world building successful because each time she tries a different strategy even when they follow the same "pattern". For instance ToG and ACOTAR's world development are deeply tied to the character. The way the world in ToG widens in HoF when Celaena can't run anymore from her past and finally faces the weight of her history and the future she must own up to, I think is brilliant because it dislocates the reader and allows us to feel the confusion, frustration, loss that the character is feeling. We realize that we are in something bigger than we thought at the moment Celaena also acknowledges it.
In ACOTAR the world grows as Feyre starts to know more of it too. It is not for nothing that the map gets more detailed in each book, because Feyre starts navigating her world with more confidence but still there is much for her to discover about it and for us too. Even in ACOSF when most of it is established it is still up to Nesta to learn new things. I find this approach refreshing as it involves the reader in a different way, creating the same sense of wonder that these ladies go through.
This dynamic is not the one explored in CC. Here she is more about creating a clear division between the world and how the character explores it and inhabits it, which, in my eyes, explains why it feels so info dump at the beginning. Yet you see how the characters will start to clash with the reality of their world vs how they live in it, as seen in Bryce's involvement with the rebellion (sure my girl could still use more empathy but you start seeing the tension of someone living in a bubble and how things actually work).
However I still think her character work is superior in general. If we are comparing it to her world building. But yes the fact that she is presenting us with worlds that do not have all the answers but are facing moments where they must confront and question the inertia that has carried them for long spans of time, is something I rather enjoy as it makes the worlds be more fleshed out. After all not everything has an answer in this irl world and until recently we heard the "well itโ€™s always been this way in this world and no one knows whyโ€ argument.
Regarding her pacing, I must have to disagree with you. Safe for the final part in ACOSF and a tad in HOSAB, I think she paces her stories very well and balances them with character development and action development. I think the problem is more with the fact that people expect each book to somewhat follow the same formula and they don't because she is a person who likes to experiment in her narrative form. Pacing and rhythm are there for you to experiment on them and for the most part I have enjoyed the way she plays around with those. For instance, I remembered a lot of the backlash in ACOWAR came from the fact that it was not as good as ACOMAF, and honestly how could it be if it's objective was something entirely different? Which is why I am mostly opposed to comparing series too. ToG and ACOMAF and CC are having totally different conversations within their narratives.
Finally the "show don't tell" critique, I once again am inclined to disagree. While I do think there are certain moments where she tells you rather than show you, mainly with Bryce and her cleverness, I think Sarah is an author who lays down the dots and encourages you to connect them to draw meaning. A year ago-ish I talked about how certain writers will give you the dots, then how to connect them and then connect them for you; others will give you the dots, show you how they might connect and the leave you to it; and others will simply show you the dots and be like "you swim or you sink", "you connect them or you don't but I won't spoon feed you". To me Sarah is the second and third type... she demands that you pay attention and help construct the world and the meaning. For example she will not sit you down and give you a lecture on the limits of magic, but she will show you that they have yet to find the way to do a c-section with magic... showing you that there is a limit, that there is still discoveries to be made on that front. Connect the dots, engage, pay attention. I explained this better in another ask. If I find it I shall link it.
I am more on the Sarah is a good writer camp. While I do think there are aspects she can improve on her storytelling (like her constant use of certain phrases and sometimes her imbalance of focus regarding certain plot elements over others), generally my opinion verges on the positive. I made some of my literary uni friends read the books too and they whole agree she is a writer deserving of "literary" merit, that has changed the landscape of her genre not only in terms of consumers but in the way new authors go about their stories.
I am here to see her continuous growth.
Besos.

I'm watching an anime (from 2003) called "Uninhabited Planet Survival" and the main character, Luna, is so Gwyn coded ITS DRIVING ME NUTS.
But then, we also have whom I like to believe is the male MC, Kaoru, and he is LITERALLY AZRIEL
BUT THEN, we also have the secondary characters that are pretty much HALF THE CHARACTERS OF ACOTAR.
Honestly, you want to see how they would survive on an uninhabited planet? Go watch Uninhabited Planet Survival.
I saw it for the first time when I was 12, and now rewatching it on my 20s AND I ALWAYS SHIPPED LUNA AND KAORU.
I was destined to be a Gwynriel, it was written on the stars,

For everyone who acts like Lucien is all soft and docileโ€ฆneed I remind you that in book one, when he thought Rhys was evil and might kill him with half a thought, he STILL talked back, called him a whore, SPAT at him, and threatened him with a sword. My man is so feisty.

Every time I hear this song, I think of Azriel falling in love with gwyn ๐Ÿ’•
Oh, I'm obsessed
With the way your head is layin' on my chest
How you love the things I hate about myself
gwyn will always love his hands because those are the hands that saved her and taught her how to save herself.
That no one knows, but with you, I see hope again
Oh, I'm a mess
When I overthink the little things in my head
Between the shadows and his constant insecurities, Az is an over thinker when it comes to love. Fight me on this I dare you.
You seem to always help me catch my breath
But then I lose it again
When I look at you, that's the end
And why do I get so nervous when I look into your eyes?
Butterflies can't stop me fallin' for you
And darlin', this is more than anything I felt before
Az thought he was in love with Mor, then Elain, but nothing compares to the way that gwyn makes him feel. She pulls him out of his head, makes him laugh, makes him talk, and makes his shadows go crazy.
You're everything that I want, but I didn't think I'd find
All Az wants is a mate and someone who will love him. He wanted Mor, but she could never love him the way he needs. He wanted Elain but she is destined for someone else. Gwyn is everything he ever wanted and more but gave up trying to find.
Someone who is worth the wait of all the years of my heartbreak
Once again, the poor man has spent his entire life (which is 540 years give or take) having his heart broken by Mor and then Elain.
But I know now I found the one I love
And I love the way
You can never find the right things to say
And you can't sit still an hour in the day
Gwyn doesnโ€™t speak to him like other people do. She isnโ€™t afraid of him and wants to get to know him. Not to mention the girl has some serious ADHD and is doing a million things all the time lol
I'm so in love, let's run away because us is enough
The song is I guess Iโ€™m in love by Clinton Kane ๐Ÿ’•
