I noticed the g stans are stuck on a line from the song sjm posted that says something like “burning the bedsheets”. A while this is hilarious it made me realize something. They are far to literal in their interpretation of any text. They claim it must be a reference to elucien because of the ‘fire burning the sheets’ but its honestly just a metaphor for passion in bed. Like that hot deep kinda stuff you know? They are honestly either dense or 12
Dont let them ever listen to 'Sex on Fire'...cuz you know, they'll be thinking it's for real, and someone's sex IS on fire.
They are unbelievably literal and the fact that they don't understand or recognize that the expression 'fire burning the sheets' isn't about Lucien, but about hot sex, is really worrying.

Seeing Eluciens scramble saying Elain is gonna reject the bond but STILL gonna choose Lucien…
First of all why would she reject the bond if she’s gonna choose him anyway? What purpose would it serve?
That SJM interview about mates has everything to do with a possible Elriel endgame because there would be no reason for Elain to reject anything with Lucien. They would have the easiest romance in an SJM novel. The only conflict being Lucien waiting for Elain to come around. Geez talk about boring.
Pulling out OLD interviews assuming SJM can’t change her mind when she literally planned for fox boy to get with Nesta first. She’s a writer, she said she lets her characters guide a story. So don’t come at me with prehistoric interviews because at the time she hadn’t written anything with them, and that’s when the two dolls who won’t kiss come in. Don’t you think she would’ve written at least SOME tension or chemistry between them beforehand? Why would she give Azriel a POV? You ignore all the foreshadowing but then you’ll act surprised and say “I never saw this coming!” literally only you didn’t.

I can’t believe the Gwynriels are obsessing over a necklace that SJM will more than likely not mention in the next book. If she does, it’s just gonna be a single line in the book. That would be hilarious, actually.
The only way it's getting mentioned is if it's Made.
And its something that's used for its magic and powers. Not as an element in some I'll begotten love triangle.
If Elain Made it, then it will make sense. But if not, then I don't think we'll hear much about it.

ELRIEL - Guilty as sin?
Tumblr media
What if he's written 'mine' on my upper thigh
Only in my mind?
One slip and falling back into the hedge maze
Oh what a way to die
I keep recalling things we never did
Messy top lip kiss
How I long for our trysts
Without ever touching his skin
How can I be guilty as sin?

This is going to be SJM critical, but I think the biggest issue that I have with her writing lately--plot-wise--is that there are no stakes.
In TOG, she used to kill characters. She truly made them suffer. They went through something and we went with them. No matter how enormously powerful Aelin was, she could still be captured and entombed and tortured. And I get that in HOFAS SJM tried to do the same with Hunt and with Ruhn, but it fell flat.
Now, she's become predictably positive.
And I think you can write HEA, but it needs to be EARNED.
What did we get in ACOSF? Nesta climbed some mountain, passed the Blood Rite no problemo and killed a lame ass queen. All in a span of what? 4 days?
We meet a legit Asteri in HOFAS, and we kill it in what? 30 minutes?
It makes me wants to say--MAKE. THEM. SUFFER.
I am craving real angst. Frustration. Anger. Sadness. Trials and tribulations.
I don't need torture porn. It's not effective if there are no consequences. The stories that stay with you are the ones where you've gone through hell with the characters and came out on top.
I dont now if it's just me, but I dont feel any impact from any of her latest books. The last time I felt anything was when Lehabah......

“A woman is not written in braille, you don’t have to touch her to know her.”
I'm tearing up. This is how Azriel would speak of Elain when it all becomes too much and he lets his heart pour out (and I have the evidence of course).
Tumblr media
She doesn’t like change and loves to love the world around her.
“Beautiful.” / “After all of this, the world needs more gardens.”
“In celebrating the traditions, even through the presents, we honor those who fought for its very existence, for the peace this city now has.”
She loves so hard she hurts herself at times and doesn't let me pick up the pieces, even though I always do it anyway.
So Elain silently cried, the tears so unending that I wondered if it was some sign of her heart bleeding out. Some sliver of hope that had shattered today--that love would trump even a mating bond.
(...)
Azriel carried Elain down, my sister silent and unresponsive in his arms. (...) Azriel, graceful as any courtier, offered her an arm (...) and led my sister toward the back doors into the garden, sunlight bathing them.
"What if" - I jerked my chin toward the window, to my sister and the shadowsinger in the garden. “That is what she needs?
“I didn’t hear you.” Azriel stepped forward. “But you heard something else."
“Azriel’s hazel eyes churned as he studied my sister, her too-thin body.”
“I can help her,” said Azriel, stepping to the table as Elain silently rose.
“A seer,” he said, more to himself than us. “The Cauldron made you a seer.” / It made sense, I supposed, that Azriel alone had listened to her. / Elain blinked and blinked, eyes clearing again. As if the understanding had freed her from whatever murky realm she’d been in.
“What about Elain?” / “I’m getting her back” “Are you hurt?” She shook her head, devouring the sight of him as if not quite believing it. “You came for me.”
Azriel still cradling Elain to his chest. (...) Rhys lunged for Azriel, taking Elain from him and gently setting my sister down. Azriel rasped, swaying on his feet, “We need Helion to get these chains off her.”
Tumblr media

He gently took her hand and pressed the hilt of the legendary blade into it. “It will serve you well.” (...) I have never once seen Azriel let another person touch that knife.
Az said nothing. No, he just moved toward her. “Sit. I’ll take care of it.”
“Wait,” Azriel said, nothing but command in his voice. (...) Azriel didn’t let go. “Wait until everyone is seated before eating.”
“I’d feel bad for the mice,” Azriel muttered. (...) earning a grateful smile from Elain. (...) the light that returned to Elain’s eyes.
“Because of the shit with Elain?” Azriel stilled. “What happened to Elain?” (...) A fight with Nesta. don’t bring it up,” he warned when Azriel’s eyes darkened. Cassian surveyed the shadows gathered around Az. “You all right?” His brother nodded. “Fine.” But shadows still swarmed him. Cassian knew it was a lie, but didn’t push it. Az would speak when he was ready”
Nesta saw the blow land, like a physical impact, in Elain’s face, her posture. No one spoke, though shadows gathered in the corners of the room, like snakes preparing to strike.
“We won’t allow any harm to come to Elain. Rhys warded her this morning, and we have eyes on her at all times.” “Eyes can be blinded,” Nesta said. “Not the ones under my command,” Azriel said with a soft menace. Nesta met his stare, knowing he was the only one aside from Feyre who could truly understand her hesitation.
She’s stubborn like a mule but as delicate as a flower, always sad but never beaten.
“It’s already ended badly. Now it’s just a matter of how we meet the consequences.”
“Why wouldn’t I be all right?” she asked, a smile lighting up her face. I’d seen those same smiles before, on my own damn face. / Elain, it seemed, was as sleepless as me.
“Shall I tend to my little garden forever? You can’t have it both ways. You cannot resent my decision to live a small, quiet life, while refusing to let me do anything greater.”
I love the way she understand what I'm trying to say without needing to hear me say it, when I can't seem to formulate anything at all.
Elain looked up at Azriel, their eyes meeting, his hand still lingering on the hilt of the blade.
Then his gaze shifted to Elain, and though it was utterly neutral, something charged went through it. Between them. Elain’s breath caught slightly.
He left the rest unspoken. (…) Elain's large brown eyes flickered, well aware of all that. Just as he knew she was well aware of why Azriel so rarely came to family dinners these days.
"Yes," Elain breathed, like she read the decision.
Tumblr media
She's probably the best thing that's happened to me.
“It’s for the headaches everyone always gives you. since you rub your temples so often.” (...) Then Azriel tipped his head back and laughed. I’d never heard such a sound, deep and joyous. Elain smiled again, ducking her head. Azriel mastered himself enough to say, “Thank you.” I’d never seen his hazel eyes so bright, the hues of green amid the brown and gray like veins of emerald. “This will be invaluable.”
It was three by the time the others went to bed. Azriel and Elain remained in the sitting room.
Azriel stood in the doorway, monitoring them. As if he’d heard Elain’s sharp laugh and wondered what had caused it.
Shadows darkened his eyes, full of enough pain that (...) she understood why he stood near the doorway, why he wouldn’t go near the fire. His secret to tell, never hers.
There she was. The faelights gilded Elain’s unbound hair, making her glow like the sun at dawn.
A headache powder he kept on his nightstand at the HoW. Not to use, but just to look at. Which he'd done every night he'd slept there. Or attempted to sleep there.
He chuckled, unable to suppress the impulse. (...) Elain's mouth twitched into a smile (...) He offered a smile back.
His head went quiet.

There is lust. There is tension. But there is also so much more.

Happened to bond over ACOTAR with another person I met at work recently. She finished the series a few weeks ago and we were discussing how excited we were that SJM was supposedly writing the next book.
And then, unprompted, this girl says how much she can't wait for Elain & Azriel's love story.
Isn't that crazy? How new readers automatically think Elriel is next?
And then - I got the dreaded question -
"Yeah, I fully expect Elriel to be next - but why are there TikTok's with Azriel & Gwyn together? Is there a book I missed?"
I informed my coworker that, no, actually. All those theories come from a bonus chapter.
She got excited there were bonus chapters and then she proceeded to read all of them that night.
The next day, I get the same question:
"I still don't get why Gwyn & Azriel would be a thing. Azriel was so down bad for Elain in that bonus chapter? Where did this other pairing come from?"
Idk girl. That's what we're all asking 🤷🏻‍♀️

Why are people reading ACOTAR if they think everyone is an unreliable narrator ...?
If an author is writing a story from one character's point of view, obviously there might be some things that each character would interpret differently over the course of the entire series, in comparison to other characters.
Ex: How Feyre views Rhys vs. how Nesta views Rhys
But to say that the character is an unreliable narrator just based off one interpretation is ridiculous. Because that implies that the entire story itself could be wrong? And these are fictional characters, mind you.
There is a difference between how each character interprets things. That does not make one characters POV "right" over another. It just means we are getting multiple perspectives.
There is no "right" or "wrong" interpretation, seeing as this is a fictional story and not reality. As a reader, we are expected to simply accept the events of the story unfold based on how the Character's POV we are reading from views it.
TLDR: Stop calling Feyre an unreliable narrator just because you don't like what SJM wrote
Feyre questioning the cauldron and asking why Azriel isn't Elain's mate does not make her an unreliable narrator.
Nesta viewing Rhys as way more cunning and cruel and annoying does not make her an unreliable narrator.
Cassian noticing how Elain shrinks away from Lucien does not make him an unreliable narrator.
Cassian noting Azriel is more focused on getting Eris back when Nesta & her friends are taken into the BR does not make him an unreliable narrator.
Because honestly, if you're out here calling everyone an unreliable narrator then WHY ARE YOU READING THESE BOOKS?

I feel like the eluciens would have never came up with the “elain stays away from Lucien so much because she is crazy in love with him” theory wouldn’t exist had it not been for SJM confirming Azriel staying at the House because he was afraid of his desire for Elain would overcome him/ he would give in. Also, the other theory about Azriel smelling the mating bond because Elain accepted the mating bond off page. That Elain and Lucien are secretly seeing each other. That theory also sounds like another headcanon that elriels came up with to further push the forbidden love story.
Just when I thought the gywnriels were stealing from the elriel ship, it seems as though the eluciens are doing the same. 🤣
Right...so I heard both.
Lucien is either staying away like Azriel, because he SO IN LOVE with Elain he cannot be next to her.
OR
They are secretly banging, and that's why Azriel can smell the mate bond.
Both are hilarious.
Because Lucien 'I am not always in velaris to see my mate' Vanserra is not climbing the walls over his desire for Elain. And if he is, then he needs to put his big boy cream pants on and have a heart to heart with her.
But, if they are banging, then why is he also...avoiding her?
Also, there is NOTHING FORBIDDEN ABOUT ELUCIEN!!!!!
for the millionth time. Like there is absolutely NOTHING forbidden. In fact, it's sanctioned. Not forbidden.

I know this fandom is obsessed with thinking that Azriel’s shadows disappearing or skittering is a bad thing around Elain. But after reading the bc ten times, I though it was so cute when azriel’s shadows told him that Elain had gone upstairs. I think that is 100% proof that they do love her. Imagine having inanimate objects telling you that someone you love is safe/what they are doing. They love her more than lightsinger Gwyn. I am sorry, it’s priestess. The next time someone says it’s negative, I am just gonna drop that line from the bonus chapter. 🤣
Yeah, that's one of the more nonsensical takes that people have.
The shadows are a defense mechanism for him. THey came to him, to protect him, after severe trauma. They are there to allow him to disappear, shadow walk, hide him, and protect him. As he explained, they are very condensed magic.
So if they hate Elain and don't trust her, they surely wouldn't be leaving him in her company. Even if they had an inkling of danger. Not only that, they were the ones that became restless when she was kidnapped by the Cauldron, they were the ones to notify Azriel that Elain had gone up to her room, the ones who assisted him during the gift exchange.
What's a lot more curious is that he noticed that the shadows did not 'WARN' him that Gwyn was on the roof. It's an interesting word. WARN. You typically warn someone if they are in danger. He didn't say that the 'shadows didn't inform him that the ring was occupied' or that they 'told him'. They didn't 'warn' him.
And I am pretty sure that we are supposed to pay attention to that.
And why were the shadows 'restless' around Gwyn? only to settle down later...(as if in a trance).
I think the readers are fixating on the wrong thing here.

In Spite of it All (Part I)
A/N: I’ve been cooking again I fear. A new little fic I have made that will have multiple parts. I don’t know how many lol. The plan is for it to be Dual POV between Elriel. I hope you enjoy my madness.
Summary: Since Nyx’s birth, Elain has put herself forward as the family dinner cook as of late. Through the course of her long day’s work to prepare dinner for her loved ones, something unexpected happens.
Word Count: 5.7K
Key: sfw, Hurt/Comfort
Possible triggers: Not much, really. This one’s safe.
It was a family dinner night. A night that Elain had always looked forward to nowadays. Since Nyx’s birth, the occasional group dinners became more frequent. A few days a week where everyone in the Inner Circle gathered under the roof of the townhouse to laugh and dine together, and of course, to see precious Nyx.
And being one that enjoyed cooking and baking as much as she did, Elain had made an obligation out of it as she always had.
On days like this, she had to wake up early to begin preparations and plans in the kitchen. To decide what was on the menu for everyone and to set everything in motion, all for dinner to be finished at a reasonable time.
Ever the supporters they were, the wraith twins, Nuala and Cerridwen had also involved themselves in the hard work, claiming that a friend doesn’t perform that immense of a task all alone. Even if it was their job to help out in general just as they always had, Elain couldn’t find it in herself to thank them enough every single time. And so Elain spent most of the day in the kitchen busying herself with the twins by her side.
Here she stood, as she had been since dawn, flouring and kneading dough on the kitchen island. Elain kneaded the bread dough silently, focused entirely on her work. Nuala and Cerridwen were on the other side of the kitchen working on their own sides that they tasked themselves with.
Press and fold, press and fold, press and fold—
The words repeated in Elain’s mind as she worked, though she failed to realize that Nuala had called her name. Called her name again. Again.
“Elain?” A shadowy hand touched her flour-covered forearm. Elain flinched slightly, looking over at Nuala with wide eyes.
Her breath caught and then she swallowed in recognition. “Oh– Sorry, I was a little too focused. Yes?”
Cerridwen angled her head from afar, listening in silently as she whisked a pan of cooking lemon curd for one of the cakes that were to be made.
“Are you alright?” The half wraith gave her a comforting smile, minding none of the flour that now covered her hand.
“I am,” Elain reassured her with a smile of her own. “Was there something you needed?”
Nuala shook her head. “I was just checking in on you. Your face looked… Troubled.”
“I promise I’m alright, thank you for asking.” Elain beamed another smile at her before getting back to her kneading.
The twins exchanged a quiet look between one another when Nuala turned around. Elain had guessed that they didn’t believe her, though she wasn’t going to attempt to reinforce her claim.
Truth be told, news had indeed put a damper on Elain’s mood today. Feyre had forewarned that Lucien was coming to dinner tonight, just for the night. Per Feyre’s own request, she had guessed. It wasn’t as if he hadn’t before, especially since he first showed up in the Night Court but—
Her beloved sister’s persistence had always troubled her. Regardless of what Elain had said in the past, what she had declared and tried so hard to make clear in the kindest way she knew how, she— they both persisted through it all in some weird hopeful way.
Perhaps it was because Elain didn’t understand. Perhaps it was due to the fact that she hadn’t experienced the magical level of love or the ultimate correctness that her sisters had felt with their mates yet.
The circumstances had made her question, well, everything. Question why her bond had snapped into place so suddenly. Questioned why the sensations were merely akin to a tug on a rib. Questioned the—
Visions suddenly flit through Elain’s mind, cascading across her vision and echoing in her ears.
Clock hands striking an hour before midnight, the groaning of wood, the deafening shatter of glass, the loud cries of an infant, the feelings of fear and confusion, panic and anxiety—
And then they were gone as fast as they came.
Elain’s movements slowed to a stop, her hands merely falling to rest on the floured wood surface. More damning visions that haunted her. But these— These were extreme.
The female quickly finished kneading the dough before placing it into a large glass bowl and covering it in order to allow it to rise. She then cleaned her hands at the sink and took off her apron to set aside.
“I’ll be right back.” The twins blinked at one another before giving Elain the okay. She then hurried out of the kitchen, beelining for the nearest bathroom.
Elain closed the bathroom door behind her and took a deep breath, focusing entirely on the intricately designed black and white tiled floor.
Nearly all of Elain’s visions were disturbing in some way. They had always foretold all sorts of things, be they as serious as an attack or as minor as who would show up at the townhouse. Even in her dreams, they plagued her. But this vision had seemed— Elain knew that it foretold something happening within the townhouse. An infant’s cry— Nyx. Baby Nyx.
Not her nephew. Her precious nephew. If any harm came to him, to Feyre, anyone here— She had to tell them, Rhysand and Feyre.
Elain pushed herself off of the rich wood door, stepping forward to look herself over in the mirror. She was a mess, or so she thought to herself.
Her hair was messily braided off to the side, the length of the braid ending at her hip. Her bangs were no better, messy as they were, barely hanging on to where they were tucked behind her pointed ears.
Flour had also somehow ended up dusted on her cheek, though that came as no surprise to her. Such things always happened when she was absorbed into her craft.
She let out a quiet sigh and took a few minutes to clean herself up and look presentable, although she knew she was bound to get messy again, possibly even more so later on.
As soon as they arrived, she’d decided, Elain would let Feyre and Rhysand know what she saw. At the very least, they should know.
Taking one last deep breath to calm herself, she walked back out of the bathroom and returned to the kitchen to continue her work. After all, there was much for her to do. Even if disturbing sights haunted her every move.

Honestly I have absolutely no qualms with this ship situation. Do I have a preference? Yes, as do most people. But Sarah Janet is going to do whatever she wants.
What I just don’t understand is why people so badly want a story that’s already been written! When we already have two storylines being built up that are so vastly different than anything SJM has ever given us. I’m talking about Elain and Vassa’s stories (since yes, acotar focuses on WOMEN.)
Elain is a seer, something we have never seen before. Her story could potentially explore what it means to break a mating bond, something we have never seen before.
Vassa’s story revolves around a curse and her romantic journey could be fire x fire which, you guys, is HOT AS HELL! (Plus, the curse is broken by true love in the story she is retelling with Vassa.)
I’m sorry but the stories they could have are so unique, and I fail to see how some of you guys don’t want that.
