Monkey Island Week: Day 2
I think I'm gonna be late to all these days but it's fine? It's finee.
So! Returning side characters, huh? I instantly knew who I wanted to draw
(or sort of instantly, because I forgot one of their names for like an entire like few hours until my complaining summoned his name from the depths of my brain)
Wally was pretty much already announced as probably returning! I like him, I got hyped about him when in Curse when I first watched a playthrough, he's cool! Optical lense buddies, high five!
But also... I just really like Van Winslow?? He's very sweet, instant attachment the moment he's friendly with you, his love of maps and fish person will be a part of my heart
Just,,, I want these two to bond over maps, alright? Let em, they'd be good friends

the neighbourhood had always been especially close, after all they only had each other to rely on so it made sense to at least try and all get along, but something shifted when you moved in — and they became that much more tight knit because of it
you were a fresh face around town: a new customer at the bugdega who always greeted howdy with a smile so bright it hurt his eyes just to look, a new set of waving hands that stopped eddie on his morning rounds as you sheepishly gave him a card to pass on (so apologetic that he simply couldn’t say no), a new muse for wally to paint out in his garden as you leaned dangerously out of your bedroom window to help guide sally on where to place her new (startlingly large) props, a new voice to laugh and groan and react to barnaby’s jokes (your enjoyment and amusement so addictively palpable that he found himself thinking about it as he drifted off to sleep), a new pair of eyes for julie to stroll and pose in front of to show off her new outfits and hairstyles (flustering and glowing under your earnest encouragement and biting her tongue to hold herself back from tackling you into a tight embrace), a new pair of hands to help frank catch that butterfly he’s been trying to get for days now (and succeeding effortlessly in your first try, earning his muted awe as you celebrated and handed over your prize to him), a new mouth for poppy to feed with her latest treats (and who never hesitated to praise her cooking until her feathers were all awry and her head was hidden in her wings, all while insisting you were only stating the truth)
you were everything and yet you presented yourself so humbly — a true enigma for the neighbours to discuss as their fondness for you grew more intense, more consuming, more concerning (though, of course, none of them could see it for what it was through the puppy-love-esque haze that had overtaken their rational minds)
it was a shared obsession, the subject of every whisper and remark and check-out chat whenever they saw each other — voices lilting with adoration but carrying an air of casualness that might just be unsettling if they weren’t so genuine about it all
they memorise your schedule off by heart and arrange amongst themselves who will be where so that you’re never left alone (that’s such a terrible thought, they never want you to feel neglected) — alternating throughout the week so that howdy and eddie also get their time with you outside of their work schedules
as a collective they’re all incredibly friendly towards you, always greeting you with kindness and offering help with any and everything you do even if you don’t ask for it — leaping at any opportunity to spend time with you or to gain your favour in one way or another
they also never try and force any sort of affection or relationship onto you, content just to have you with them and not feeling the urge to push anything further unless you express that interest (and after very thorough private discussions amongst themselves)
that being said if you wanted to enter a romantic relationship with the ensemble then they’d all be up for it — accepting before you could even complete your sentence (but good luck ever leaving that relationship)
you’re spoiled rotten by your neighbours — kept with good company, given first pickings of every meal and dessert poppy makes, sent countless unsigned letters complimenting everything about you in earnest, offered painting after painting of yourself and your favourite things, spoiled with laughter and entertainment, gifted the newest clothes, and offered discounts and freebies with everything you buy
(and your birthdays are even more extreme, practically turned into holidays and celebrated for well over a week as your neighbours make it the best they can)
but this overwhelming kindness and affection is met with an overwhelming, underlying possessiveness that bubbles up to the surface every time you try to leave the neighbourhood — they just love you so much that they can’t just let you go so easily
they make excuses, cut the phones, block the roads and feign illness after injury — anything they can to keep you at home without causing you any harm themselves (they love you too much to hurt you, you know), and if all else fails then home will step in and… well… nobody wants that to happen
it would be so very difficult for anyone but wally to see you then and that would be so terribly unfair, don’t you think?
so they try and make do as best they can, keeping you entertained and well fed and well spoiled with everything you could possibly need or want — doing everything in their power to keep you content enough that you don’t ever feel the need to leave them
they have everything you need, why would you ever look elsewhere? — with sally and barnaby by your side you’re kept well-entertained, with frank and julie you’re kept active and in good hands as you explore the nearby woodlands, between howdy and poppy you’re never left hungry or craving the things you love, and wally and eddie are more than happy to help you explore your creative side (and home is a wonderful host as well)
they will be whatever you need them to be, whatever you want them to be, clinging to every smile and laugh and look you give them and showering you with all they have to offer — because you really are the absolute most
and they won’t let you go

Jaime from 'Batman: The Brave and The Bold' should get adopted. Like obviously not legally because he already has parents, but like a Stephanie situation where he's basically B's kid coz he hangs around all the time.
Billy Batson should get actually adopted though. His siblings too, obvi.
And like Wally and Donna are basically his kids too because of Dick.
I bet he refers to Donna and Dick as his twins.
Actually all his "friends" kids are his kids now too. That means Lizzie, Jon, Kon, Roy, Mia, Connor.
(Ollie and B are so an item in the brave & the bold actually, I could write a whole thesis on their sexual tension)
Anyone who dates B's legal kids are automatically also his kids now. Congratulations Bernard you're adopted, at least Bruce isn't homophobic.
Just someone asks Bruce about how many kids he has exactly and he starts counting on his fingers, then out loud he says "wait- is that one legally my child??"
Or someone sees a photo on his desk at the office and goes "wow are those your kids?"
And B's like, "yeah all my mine. They make me so proud everyday". And only one of those kids is actually his.
Or Bruce has one of those fold out photo things in his wallet and he's showing everyone his 'daughters'. And it's Donna, Babs, Kori, Helena, Cass, Cassie, Stephanie, Kara and Lizzie. Even Raven maybe because she dated Damian at one point.
"oh wow, so many! I thought you only had just the two girls?"
"no no, these are all my lovely girls. They're so smart and I'm so proud of my babies".
"isn't that one Commisioner Gordon's girl?"
"uh. Yeah I guess.. but she's basically my daughter".
"Sure Mr. Wayne."
Or it's a Wayne Gala and he's brought along some of his honourary kids and one of the other rich people is like "oh who's this? I didn't recall you picking up another stray."
"he's not a stray he's my son."
And Jaime's just thinking "what? Did I just get adopted? I already have parents?" But it's honestly his own fault for hanging around so often and accepting the invite to the gala. It's not like Bman went out looking for more kids they just showed up on they're own and now they're his.
I mean B is the one looking after them and teaching them and making sure most of them don't die so. And Alfred feeds them all. They sleep over at the Manor more often than not. So they are his kids now right?
Right?
Anyways, Bruce loves all his kids. Even if they drive him absolutely insane. He's got grey hairs because there's so many of them now lol.

Batfamily Shenanigans:Head-canons Pt: 2
Dick and Tim have the most inside jokes,Jason ignores them and Damian is but jealous. But the two bonded a lot before the arrival/return of the other two.
Jason takes his little brothers to Diner’s at 2 am. Alfred would rather he do it during regular hours,but then he remembers they’re nighttime activities and is just happy he’s not trying to shoot them.
Talia before having Damian loved seeing a young Dick Grayson as Robin.He was so full of cheer and it warmed Talia’s heart, she hoped to have a son as bright as him. (She did he’s just a little shy)
Cass doesn’t have her drivers license and prefers to be passenger princess.
Duke has naturally curly hair but cuts most of the time for easier management.
Jason can mimic voices the best. He can do a pretty decent Bruce Wayne impression and it has made Bruce ask his children multiple times if he sounds like that. Alfred gets a chuckle out of it too.
The Robins most definitely play pricks on JL members who annoy their Dad, that’s there job. Hal goes to pay his bills and all his passwords have been changed, Oliver is getting dressed for a party and all his clothes are pink.
Bruce is a big baby when he’s sick. He cannot find for hisself and his family take turns caring for him. Jason makes him soup, Tim gives him medicine, Damian and Duke make him rest, The girls block him from working on cases files and Alfred makes sure he has plenty of fluids. And if that fails they call in the big guns. Diana.
Speaking of Wonder Woman, she visits the Manor every Sunday and her and Damian feed and pet his animals.
Tim,Jason and Dick all have “R” tattoos. Dick promised Damian he could get on when he turns 18, and they let Damian sketch it too.
Dick’s is on his right hip, Jason’s is on his left wrist, and Tim’s is on his right ankle.
Stephanie and Selina are tied for the most ear piercings.
Jason is the only former Robin who can drive stick currently. Dick hasn’t done it in years but probably could after a few lessons, Tim never learned, Damian can but prefers not to. Jason is currently teaching Duke and Steph and had regretted it ever since.
Alfred enjoys making lunches for everyone still. Some days he gets to make everyone lunch. He first makes Damian(PB&J with crust cut off, and cut into triangles) and Duke’s(Ham and cheese toasted sandwich with pickles slices) school lunches.
Bruce usually leaves for the office before breakfast so when Tim eventually comes downstairs Alfred will have his breakfast Togo and both their lunches. (Usually for B it’s a BLT with turkey bacon and cheese. And Tim’s is Tuna and Swiss on whole grain bread.)
Dick on Tuesdays and Friday’s, sometimes Sundays spends the night the prior at the Manor. He’s usually the only home so Alfred can make whatever he wants for lunch. He’s top two favorite lunches are Janija one of the only dishes Alfred can make that tastes similar to how Dick’s Mom prepared it. And Bangers and Mash. When he first arrived he say Alfred eating this and wanted to try it. He always requests this dish,but only if he can eat it with Alfred.
Jason likes either Club subs or a simple pasta with fresh spinach and a cream sauce.
Depending on the day Alfred will drop off lunch to the Clocktower for Barbara and the girls. Sometimes the other birds are in town and he always knows when to make extra. Most of the times me it’s wrapped sandwiches a mix of cold cuts and vegetarian options. Barbara always get turkey with cheddar, Steph gets chicken salad on a croissant bread and Cass gets ham and cheese pinwheels.
He even makes weekly meals and drops them off for the Titans and Young Justice. Seeing as most of them cannot cook. He packs extra knowing their speedsters on each time. Looking at you Wally and Bart. They’re all just grateful they don’t have to eat Pizza or Big Belly Burger for a few nights. Dick enjoys when Alfred visits and so does Kory. Tim and his friends are over the moon to have Alfred visit them too, and Bart even makes request for his next meal.
The league even gets random lunch. They return from training and find fresh out meals at the sits. Batman just shrugs but Superman and Wonder Woman make him call Alfred so he can be thanked.
Sunday’s are days that’s it mandatory for everyone to come for dinner. Once a Month several members are the League are expected to come for dinner and everyone better be on their best behavior.No wants an angry butler, so everyone always attends.
Jason and Duke are the only people allowed to help with preparing food, Dick isn’t allowed because he sampled everything to the point he’s eaten half of the dish. Tim and Damian are assigned to setting the table. And Bruce must stay either in the living room or dinning room if Alfred even hears the grandfather clock tick he’s going to skin a bat.
Cass enjoys getting ingredients from the fridge and pantry for them. And Stephanie is on Bruce Watch, if he moves she sprays him with water like a misbehaving kitten.
Most the the time Barbara is greeting the guests and depending on is Stephanie is needed to help bring the food out Barbara will have Bruce greet everyone with her. She especially makes him greet Green Arrow and Green Lantern.
Sometimes Alfred asks other to bring dishes for a potluck.Clark will usually bring Jon,Lois and Conner with him and he’ll bring pies. Diana always bring Donna. Usually they bring wines and vegetables.Ollie and Dinah usually are late but the bring brownies and cobbler, Roy and Lian bring meatballs, Hal brings beer and he’s makes a mean Mac and cheese on his smoker, Barry and Iris bring sodas, Arthur provides fresh fish, and J’onn brings a tasty and beautiful charcuterie board.
It’s a blast and all the kids have fun too with their friends and Alfred swears he sees Bruce double over laughing at Hal and Barry fighting for the last brownie.
All in all the butler that would take on the entire League of Doom himself enjoys making food for his family and spending with them too.

Hi, im researching for a fic im writing, and i want to ask if you know whats up with Jai's messed up connection to the speedforce? and also how the fuck do they use the speedforce to get super strength? how does going fast translate into being strong? Do you know what issues to read to learn more about this? like why do Jai (& Jesse?) have super strength, how did they do this? Why did they do this?
So Jesse's strength is a very quick and easy answer so I'll address that first before jumping into Jai's whole thing.
Jesse's mom is Liberty Belle, a hero with super strength. Jesse inherited her father's speed and her mother's super strength. She's just... I don't want to say that she's better at being a speedster but high key she is. Jesse only figured out her super strength recently and it's still pretty touch and go. She used to only have the speed and then that fizzled out and she only had the strength for a bit and then it switched back to just speed again. She seems to have both powers now though and she seems to know how to use them both so fingers crossed 🤞
Jai is a whole different ballgame.
So Irey and Jai were born as fraternal twins. There were two things wrong when they were born.
A) Only Irey was born with a speedforce connection. Jai technically wasn't born with powers at all. Irey had wrapped her speedforce connection around Jai to share her powers but it was significantly damaging to both of them.
and
B) Their shared speedforce connection was tainted with Black Flash energy. (Negative Speedforce)
So let's talk about the Negative Speedforce energy. This is the stuff that turns speedsters into Black Flashes. This is what permanently killed Johnny Quick. One touch of this stuff will obliterate a speedster entirely. It's one of the only ways to permanently kill a speedster because it corrupts their speedforce energy in a way that cannot be undone. So there isn't anything left to bring back.
And this stuff was creeping through the twin's shared connection like a virus. That's what caused their fatal aging disease. Their speedforce connection was so out of wack and their bodies didn't know how to fight off this energy and their metabolisms went into overdrive. Aged them both to 100 within six months. Thankfully Wally figured it out and was able to absorb the Negative Speedforce energy. This cured the twins and deaging them down to five ish (but caused some serious problems for Wally).
Okay so back to point A. Their shared speedforce connection. Irey was sharing her powers with Jai subconsciously and that's why she couldn't run. She didn't have enough energy to. She could only vibrate through stuff. Jai also didn't have enough energy to run but he had other serious issues because he wasn't a speedster like Irey. His body wasn't built to handle that much energy.
As a result Jai had some weird stuff going on. Jai's main power was to hyper accelerate the growth of his muscles. This would give him temporary super strength. I say 'super strength' but realistically Jai on par with extreme weight lifters. He wasn't Superman levels of strong. But, again, Jai's body couldn't handle this so everytime he used his power he had about five minutes until he passed out. Then someone would have to feed him or he'd go into shock.
He also had some other strange things. Like his DNA mutating and devolving when he got stressed. Basically his DNA went 'back in time' and Jai shape shifted a bit. This wasn't something he could control and it was very very very bad.
Irey eventually took her half of the speedforce connection back, which cemented her connection and stopped them both from having seizures. Jai was not happy about no longer having powers. Even less happy about Irey being a child prodigy speedster. Although Irey shared her powers with Jai in emergencies (which gave them both superspeed because Irey had a stronger connection and more skill as she grew older), they couldn't do this without Jai being in extreme pain. Also his seizures coming back.
Now we need to talk about the speedforce surge. The speedforce surge is this insane amount of wild speedforce energy that has to go somewhere or it'll explode the world. It's an overload of energy. To explain the scale of this thing, it caused the mass extinction event that wiped out the dinosaurs.
Wally tracked this dangerous surge down before it destroyed reality and he absorbed it until he could figure out what to do with it.
And...
Well he gave it to Jai.
Jai's speedforce connection is the surge. Jai operates on this untamable wild speedforce energy. So Jai now has A LOT of energy to work with but it doesn't really work the same way typical speedforce energy does. That's why he can't run. (yet at least. can't run yet)
Instead, the surge energy ramps up Jai's friction barrier, healing factor and his metabolism. That doesn't sound like much but hoLY FUCK it's op.
Every speedster has a friction barrier that they generate when they run. It stops their skin from melting off when they reach top speeds, the wind from tearing their bodies apart, bugs from hitting them with the force of bullets, their bones from shattering every time they take a step, ect, ect. Their friction barriers can only do so much (they act as a cushion, they don't make them invulnerable. They won't stop a bullet for example) and they only really work when the speedster is actively running.
Jai put all of his goddamn energy into his friction barrier. The child is literally invulnerable. I'm not even joking. And it's constant too, it doesn't switch off.
Jai's metabolism and his healing factor are why he has super strength. Simply put, Jai has a lot of energy. A LOT. And what doesn't go to his friction barrier, goes to his cells. His healing factor is also amped up and would take care of any muscle tears, fatigue, lactic acid build up, dead cells, ect almost instantaneously. What I'm saying here is that Jai's body is in perfect condition always and he has an unlimited amount of energy for his muscles to use.
Jai has super strength because he doesn't have limits. Jai turned Minecraft from Survival Mode to Creative Mode. He can extend any amount of force without any negative consequences on his body. He uses his strength to do his Thunder clap move which is canonically, at 8 years old, stronger than a Kryptonian's Thunder clap. It's confirmed that Jai is still figuring out how to channel the surge energy correctly, so he's not there yet, but one day he will be stronger than the Kryptonians.
Which is insane.
Honestly Wally is the embodiment of 'I will do anything for my children' because Jai was sad about not having powers so Wally gave him a dangerously unstable energy source (that's killed millions of people) that has the equivalent energy of two stars colliding. AT EIGHT. Wally gave a CHILD this unlimited unchecked power!!
Anyway, father of the goddamn year. I love that man. He would truly do anything for his children and now I'm pretty sure his son can't die so 10/10 decision.

background test for Monkey Island II (1990ish)
In this game we had the luxury of being able to draw backgrounds on paper and scan them giving us a greater range. This was my first background test of a cartographer's cabin painted in gouache.
Peter Chan was a fiend with color markers and we ended up doing a lot of the backgrounds in marker as it was much quicker than painting.

Okay! I think I'll go for it, the AU of Welcome Home and it's the Rich!Wally Darling. No clue of the AU name of it, but maybe Welcome Mansion... eh. I'll work on it. Anyway! The ideas of the roles I'll give to cast of Welcome Home Show. Plus some small info in my AU.
Wally Darling - The owner of the Darling Mansion. Took ownership after his parents passed away when he was only 14. He's been kinda spoil by his parents, but slowly becomes kinda cold after losing his parents, fearing to lose anyone he's close too. (He's probably 5'2" ft tall in this AU). There's a rumor about Wally, but are they true?
Barnaby B Beagle - Butler and Guard. Has been best/close friends with Wally since they were kids (at age 6 or 7). His adoptive mom is part of a family of maids & butlers. So far, one of the ones that Wally is somewhat nice to. Barnaby tries his best to make sure no intruders gets in... He is a guard DOG 😆Sorry!
Julie Joyful - Journalist, disguise as a Gardener. Has been working as a journalist in her family business for 5 years. She has heard rumors about Wally Darling and hopes to get the info before the others. Her partner in crimes is Frank, who has worked with her for 2 years. In order to get the truth, she decide to 'work' as a gardener to get close... which is hard.
Frank Frankly - News Reporter, disguise as a Butler. Takes their job serious as a reporter, having some odd feelings about the Darling Mansion. Tries to Julie from going into trouble, they were force to 'work' as a butler in order to get some info. However, a certain butler is making things hard to focus. *coughs*Eddie*coughs*
Eddie Dear - Head Butler. Has follows in his father's footsteps in butler lines. Despite Wally's somewhat harsh orders, Eddie could tell Wally is lonely and he hopes someone would at least get Wally to be nicer. For now, he follows Wally's orders and looks after the mansion. He does help and teaches new butlers and maids when they arrived and he is taking interest on the new butler named Frank.
Howdy Pillar - Limousine Driver. Work as Wally's driver for 2 years. Well-manner and goes where Wally would like to go, he doesn't get harsh treatment... unless he has to carry what Wally will buy (mainly hair products). He would talk his troubles towards the mechanic when the limo needs tune up.
Poppy Partridge - Kitchen Maid; also head Maid. Is like the mom towards everyone and is one of the ones who Wally treats nicely. She enjoys cooking and feeding everyone. If she gets sick, Wally would step in, but many would quickly take over to cook since Wally is not good at cooking.
Sally Starlet - Scullery Maid. Good in washing clothes, she's one of the new recruits, not knowing much about the Darling family. She would sometimes be in charge of telling stories to Wally to help him sleep and she's good at it, acting out and stuff. She does wonder what happened to his parents though, but it's a touchy subject...
Home - Mansion, duh! Had been around since Wally's great grandpa was alive. In this AU, Home the descendant of living buildings and enjoys hearing music playing. Sort of a second close friend and one of the ones that Wally is nice to. Knew the Darling family and sometimes reminds Wally he's a tad too harsh. Home is also one of the two who knows what happened to Wally's parents, sadly... no one, but Wally could understood them.
Now for my OCs that will be in Rich AU...
Eric Hopper - A recent homeless rabbit puppet, soon to becomes Butler. Lost his home after his mom kicked him out for losing a job. Despite that, he's still kind. As a kid, he did found and return something to a puppet boy with blue hair, but it was so long ago, Eric doesn't remember who was the boy until Eric stopped a robber from taking money from Wally Darling. As thanks, Eric was dragged and asked to be a butler which Eric agrees until he kinda regrets due to Wally's treatment. It seems he can under Home... [Also! In Eric's Place, Y/N would be also be in this role]
Whiskers Furball - Mechanic. In charge of fixing the limousine and often hears rumors about the Darling family. Somewhat an Informant for Julie to get juicy gossip around the neighborhood. He seems to lit up when Howdy comes around.
Possibly more??
...I might change the roles, but let's go with these for now. 😅 I might add Barnaby's mom in the AU, along with Julie's siblings if I want to. I will tried to sketch the main ones out in the roles in the future.
