Dirty Laundry and Brown Sugar Oats
Pairing: Sirius Black x SAHM! Reader (stay at home mom)
Summary: You’ve had a very busy weekend
Word count: 1.5K
Warning: skipping meals
This weekend had been one from hell. Filled with celebratory moments, but from hell none the less. It started on Friday morning with the primary schools’ spring production. Claire’s class was participating with a little dance routine. Lots of classroom mothers were signing up to assist with corralling the children throughout the day and your youngest daughter had begged you too as well. In her own words “all you do is stay home anyway”.
You weren’t sure what to do with Emmerson at first but Lily had offered to watch him for a few hours, claiming it a perfect opportunity for he and Harry to have a play date. You were extremely grateful. He wouldn’t cause her any trouble. The only person he fussed with was you.
From eight in the morning to five in the evening you were swimming in kindergarteners. Bathroom trains, fixing hair, changing into costumes, breaking up arguments, forcing a quick nap time, practice, and then comforting the snifflers once the performance actually started. The ones that attempted to leap from the stage in a wash of tears, grabby hands extended.
Then Amelia had her spelling bee on Saturday morning. As soon as you'd gotten back with Claire, cleaned her up and made dinner you were off to test Lia on her words. She wouldn’t allow you to stop until she was free of mistakes and hesitance. She didn’t win, but she was abundantly proud of herself for giving it a shot. As were you and Sirius.
Emmy had his doctor’s appointment that same afternoon for some blood testing. He'd been falling ill a lot recently and you thought it couldn't hurt to do a full check up to see if everything was alright. A fresh scratch now pulsed under your eye as evidence of his struggle. And then from there you had to rush to get Lia to her soccer practice, take Claire to ballet and run a few errands around town. You'd spent that night tailoring some of Sirius formal shirts for a few meetings he had coming up in the week.
Sunday morning Remus as well as Lily, James and Harry came over for breakfast. You’d gone all out in preparation. The downside being once you were done you had no interest in the spread of food you’d prepared.
Now it was Sunday evening, the sun only just beginning to dip below the horizon. You’d just managed to get Emmy fed and settled to watch a few minutes of Tv. Lia is at the counter finishing up some homework and Claire is crowding you. Swerving around your legs, just as high as she’d been all weekend on excitement. Every second of every day from the moment she opened her eyes to the moment she closed them it was just demands that you stop whatever you were doing to watch her. For her to perform the same sequence of moves you’d watched her do on stage as if you hadn’t been paying attention then. And again, the other thousands of times she'd done it since.
She bumps herself into your legs from behind sending you stumbling.
“Mom you aren’t watching!”
The laundry basket in your hand tips, bulging with the dirty clothes you’d been putting off washing. A jumble of socks falls from it to the tiled floor. It takes everything in you not to snap, instead closing your eyes for a beat, breathing in and out before bending to reach for them. When you’re suddenly hit with the feeling of the ground shifting. Your vision blurs and your heart gives a painful stutter. An overwhelming ringing pingpongs between your ears and your mind grates to a halt. Where were you? What had you been doing a second ago?
Small hands press into your back. You’ve sat on the ground. The plastic of the basket still slippery in your hold where it rests atop your extended legs. You feel hot. Your stomach is cramping.
A shadow falls across you from above. You force your wavering gaze up to meet Lia’s face leaned over the countertop, frowning and squinting at you. “Mom?”
Claire screams, much too close your ears, her fist pounding into your spine. “You have to watch me! Look! Look!”
“Claire, stop it!” Lia scolds. She hops down from the stool and comes around to stand in front of you. You stare straight ahead at her blue sleep shorts before she squats down to grab at your face.
“Mommy?”
The haze over your mind begins to clear when she squishes at your cheeks gently “I’m fine sweets.” Resting the basket to the side you cover her hands with your own, struggling to swallow around your dry mouth “Just lost my balance there”
Claire mashes her chin into your shoulder, pressing her own cheek against both of your hands “You’re so clumsy sometimes.”
Lia’s still frowning; her eyes a little glassy. She watches you for another beat before bolting upright “I’m going to get dad.”
You pull her back to you in a panic “No! Lia I’m fine.”
Sirius was outside doing some yardwork. Things you’d been asking him to get to for months now. That’s where he’d spent most of his weekend and it made you feel like a bit of a nag. You don’t want to bother him anymore. Especially not for something so minor.
Lia jerks her hand from yours, sprinting for the front door shouting for Sirius.
In the meantime, you shift yourself slowly to rest your back against the cabinets. The effort of it has you breaking a small sweat. Your hands shake as you set the laundry aside.
“Are you sick?” Claire asks, collecting the dropped socks and plopping them into the basket. She presses her hand to your forehead checking for warmth.
“No Clair bear.” But she won’t take that as an answer of course so before she can scuttle off in search of the thermometer you redirect her attention. “Do you think Emmy would like to watch your performance?”
Her eyes light up “You’re right! I haven’t shown him yet.” She leaves you behind, completely forgotten, in search of your youngest. Seated on his playmat in the living room and occupied by the puppets moving across the television screen.
Time seems to jump between a long blink to rest your eyes and reopening them to find Sirius kneeled in front of you. Hair tied up atop his head, collar of his shirt dark and dampened. A smudge of dirt slashes across his cheek. A calm smile spreading his lips. “Are you cozy down here love?”
You roll your eyes at him. “You smell sweaty.”
“Lia, can you get mom a glass of water please?” You hadn’t even noticed her hanging back in the archway, standing so still and quiet with her hands clasped together. She goes without a word.
“Do you feel dizzy?”
“I can’t get up.” You’d plummet right back down to the ground if you tried.
Lia returns with your water. Sirius takes it from her with a small thank you before cupping your chin. With nimble fingers he tilts your head back slightly, pressing the chilled glass to your cracked lips. “Drink, slowly” He waits for you to down half the glass before setting it aside, watching you intently.
“What did you guys have for lunch? Maybe it didn’t agree with you.”
“We had peanut butter and jelly. Mom didn’t eat any though.” Lia answers
“And you didn’t have any breakfast this morning my love. Did you eat at all today?”
In fact, you couldn’t remember the last time something of substance passed your lips, food or drink. When your days edged more on the hectic side, you’d sometimes forget they were necessities. A horrible habit you never managed to break.
Sirius reads this in your expression. He frowns disapprovingly at you. “When was the last time you ate something? Not random scraps, a whole meal”
“Breakfast Friday morning” and even that had only been a slice of buttered toast. You were running solely on the clementine you’d swiped from one of Claires classmates, a handful of nuts, and a half cup of tea somewhere else in there.
“Is she going to be alright?” Lia has sat herself beside you, picking at her fingers anxiously as her eyes rack your body from head to toe. You feel a tinge of shame run through you then. To cause her such worry with your bad habits.
Sirius removes one of the rings from his finger and slides it onto one of hers. It’s far too big but it provides a nice distraction as she spins it absentmindedly around the digit. “Mom hasn’t been nourishing her body properly but she’ll be right as rain once we get some food into her.”
“Are you ready to get up?” he asks you.
“No” you answer honestly. The room is still spinning.
Smiling reassuringly, he instead makes whispered conversation with Lia, asking what they should feed you. “Something light to not upset her stomach”
“That special ginger tea she gave me when i was sick last week.”
“What else?”
“Brown sugar oats?” She glances at you for approval “You love oats. With some honey on top?”
“Delicious. Why don’t you go fill the kettle while I help mom to the table.”
Once she’s gone Sirius turns back to you. He runs his hands up and down your bare legs, refusing to meet your gaze now. “Trying to give me a heart attack, are you?” he grumbles “Lia came outside frantic and I was sure the worst had happened” he pinches you on the thigh. Not particularly hard but enough to convey his upset.
“Ow”
He soothes it with a kiss “You have to stop skipping meals like that. You have to stay strong and healthy so we can be together until we’re old and gray and Claire ships us off to a retirement home.”
A laugh startles out of you “Lia would definitely let me live with her. Emmy might be kind enough to house you.”
The laughter dies, a cloud of seriousness rolling in to dampen it.
“Promise me” He must really be fed up with you.
“I’ve been working on it. Time just slipped through my hands this weekend.”
“Promise me” he pushes again.
You sigh, feigning annoyance at the dramatics you so enjoy when he forcibly links your pinky fingers together “I promise.”
“Great!” It’s slow going, but he gets you up off the floor and to the counter “Lia how about we cut up some fruit to go with that?”

Lily: what's your favourite colour?
James: orange.
Lily: orange? No one's favourite colour is orange.
James: it is! It's the colour of the sun, I mean, the real colour. It's the colour of the sunset. The colour of the leaves during autumn, symbolosing change, a cycle, a new beginning. *pause* It's the colour of your hair. *looks at her and smiles*

Remus is the kind of guy to be smoking a cig and decide to light up a joint, puff on both, briefly thinking "can my lungs really get through this" before going on his mary way with a cig in one hand and a joint in the other completely ignoring that thought.

you couldn't stop your deadpan glare directed at one jesting james potter. your friend seemed to enjoy the way you wrapped yourself up in your phone cord, laying like a schoolgirl, upside down on your couch. in complete truth, it was an absolutely horrendous display.
he made one, final, little teasing gesture before both mary and lily tackled him onto the armchair, soft silly little smiles on their faces. you focused back in on the beautifully coarse voice coming through the receiver.
"—this was only after i had walked an hour in the wrong direction. i swear if i don't learn a bit of korean soon i'm going to end up getting sacked." sirius drawls, unaware of the silent drama going on around you.
he was away— had been away for six months— for a touring gig with one of your shared favorite bands. they were outrageously popular now, followed around, as sirius told, "by a gaggle of obsessive people"
but you could tell he loved the job. for, in just the first month he had been promoted from, in his words, "average lights guy" to "the best backstage manager this century had ever seen".
you were beyond proud of him. your best friend getting to see the world with one of the best bands of the modern age.
how you missed him, though.
especially now. now, that you'd let it slip to all your mutual friends just how much you truly cared for him.
you feel your ears go hot at the memory. it was funny, really, how nice it felt to finally tell them— someone— of your universe-sized crush.
it did help that they all seemed to enjoy the information almost as much as you. giving you hugs and suggesting over and over just how much they had always known. you seriously doubted the later. yes they were all happily keen with their newfound knowledge, but none like james, who enjoyed the topic for the jokes it presented.
but even the lighthearted jokes didn't dim your joy. too much.
"despite how much i'd like you back here, start using those maps i sent you! now is not the time to swear off navigation." you smile.
sirius chuckles, "would you believe me if i said i was using it, just a little bit upside-down."
"merlin, you're pitiful pads. really— that's borderline worrying." you joke, closing your eyes. you try to imagine him in the streets of seoul with nothing but an upside-down map and a carton of cigarettes.
but then again, this is the same sirius orion that, until sixth year, couldn't for the life of him find a way around hogwarts without trailing behind james and remus.
"yeah, yeah poke fun all you want, love," he pauses, "speaking of stupid, how's james? he forgot to call me back tuesday and i'm starting to worry."
you spare a look at the newly twenty-two year old, his glasses sliding down his nose and face scrunched up in a faux kiss— somehow still worried about trying to tease you.
"he's gotten worse since you left. somehow. not even lily can quell him, it's disastrous really." you sigh, eyes devilish.
james perks up, "are you talking about little ol' me?"
"has he always been that loud?" sirius mutters and you laugh.
james is quick to crouch beside you, trying to speak into the phone, "sirius, my heart, we miss you! you missed my birthday, i'm starting to think i'll see twenty-three without you."
"just two more countries dear friend, until i'm back in your arms." sirius replies to him, somewhat earnestly, causing you to make a face of faux disgust.
james smiles and sticks his tongue out to you before whispering, "tough competition, miss heart eyes."
you almost hit him with the heavy handset, but settle for a stern middle finger instead, knowing that your phone call is nearing the end.
"where to after korea, pads?" you ask, already knowing the answer. you were acutely aware of just where and when he'd be— because, honestly, you could barely wait for his return home.
"japan! the sound guy told me they've got a great car scene, but really i'm only leaving my hotel room if someone's got a bike. you know how i am." sirius replies.
japan soundly lovely to you. sounds even more lovely if sirius is involved.
"lucky you. and here i am bored and stuck with prongs." you giggle, "and after japan?"
you knew this one too, because it was marked on every calendar in your home, since the minute he left. england. he'd finally be back home.
"oh come on, as if you're all not planning me a rager as we speak." he says, tone dripping with mirth.
there's a smirk on your lips, "you don't have enough friends for a rager."
he laughs lowly, "you're a vile little thing— i'm wounded." his tone is playfully sardonic, "also—"
you cut him short, "you need to go. sorry, i kept you so long, but, have a wonderful show! we all miss you like crazy!" your voice is cheery but the look on your face is dim.
you hate hanging up.
sirius hums, "i miss you too, love. i'll phone later tomorrow— keep prongs in line for me. i'll see you soon, i promise."
you nod, to yourself, before replying, "i'll take your word! see you soon, pads."
and with that, the line goes dead. you stay in place for a moment, the phone cord still somehow, impossibly, wrapped around you. your eyes are shut, but you can still make out the bright light coming from your open window. you sigh, loudly, and follow it up by sliding off of the couch and onto the floor.
"you have to tell him, ya' know." lily says pointedly, and you open your eyes to stare at her. she's smiling down softly at you so give her one in return.
"not over the phone." you reply, simply.
mary removes the throw pillow she'd been using as a sun shade from her face, "obviously, better yet, how doesn't he know it yet."
james sends her an uncharacteristic reprimanding look and then says, "forgive pads for not being able to see the way she flounders for him through the telephone."
you shriek, "i do not flounder!"
the three of them look at you before breaking out with vindictive smirks, "oh— you most definitely do."

days pass after your last phone call with sirius, with no fault to him. no, you had become wrapped up entirely with work. all you'd know for the past few days was countless due dates and passive, yet direct, requests for you to stay "just a bit later."
but finally, here you were, arms wrapped around your legs as you sat on your barstool staring expectantly at your phone.
it was late already, as you had, again, stayed over at work. it was already eleven when you got home, so despite your microwavable dinner and rushed shower, time only seemed to fly forward.
but sirius had said he'd call before leaving japan. he had sworn on the voicemail.
so here you sat, towel wrapped around your hair, eyes heavy, and desperate to hear his voice.
almost on cue, the phone rings— and you let four go by before answering, "hello?"
you could hear chatter and hurried steps in the background, "hi love, sorry it's late. show went late, but i'm waiting for my plane now."
"you're fine! tell me about toyko— any bikes?" you question, noticing how coarse his voice came out.
he chuckled, "absolute shit. i saw one, puny little thing though. jax," he stops to explain who exactly jax is, "he's a sound guy— he took me to a street race the next day, but it's hard to enjoy any of it over all the fumes."
"we can't win 'em all," you sigh, "if it makes you feel any better, i forgot to file three patient reports this week, and dr. saion is very focused on me not forgetting it."
you hear him mutter something under his breath before clearing his throat, "he's a grouch, love— however," there was a smile on his lips, and you were sure you didn't need to see him to know, "it does seem as though my impending return is getting you flustered. and although i'm flattered—"
you cut him off, "it has nothing to do with you!" you tone was a bit too serious, so you follow it up with, "not that i'm not beaming for you to get back. i think me more than anyone, obviously."
sirius hums, "obviously?"
you scrunch your face at the word. fuck— no, of course not at all obvious to him.
"i am your best friend, aren't i?" you tease, saving yourself.
he tsks, "it seems you are, little love. oh, and i miss you too. frightfully so, i'm afraid."
you glow at the remark, trying to stifle the feeling out of your voice, "what time are you getting in?"
"god, what time is it there?" he asks, muffled a bit, probably looking around for a clock.
"twenty past two." you sigh.
"love, go to bed! you've got work in the morning, don't you?" he presses.
"fine— after you tell me when you'll be here." you chide, soft smile on your lips.
"if all goes well, half past nine. i promised james i'd apparate straight from the airport and to his. now, can you please get some sleep? finish the week strong, hm?" his tone was caring, and you felt inclined to adhere to his wishes.
"yes, of course, pads. i'll see you tomorrow, please, be safe." your eyes are now drooping, heart determined to talk for as long as possible and head demanding immediate sleep.
"i'm always safe," he chuckles, "but i promise, and i'll see you tomorrow, love. goodbye and good night."
eyes fully shut now and arm barely keeping the phone up, you mumble, "goodnight, sirius. i love you."
your eyes open wide at the words, in pause momentarily. it wasn't what you said that really shocked you— it was the way you said it.
"i love you." as though those words were a rope, tieing you and all of your unsaid confessions together just to unravel itself for sirius.
you pull the handset from your face, listening to the questionary call of your name. you can't say anything, so you just listen. sure that he must know now.
how could he not know?
moments pass before he speaks again, a little quieter this time, "i think you've fallen asleep on me— i, uh, god how do i hang this thing up?"
seconds before his voice sounds again, most of it too quiet for you to hear, "—you when i get home."
then the lines goes dead, the sound blaring into your ears.
when you finally stand up, you feel your head rush. you stand, staring at your phone. there's a fleeting moment where you expect him to call back, and demand an answer to your vibrant display. but minutes pass by with no ring so you head to your bed, a wreck of anxiety.
the covers are pulled over your head, and you're almost suffocated by your own breaths.
you know for certain that hours go by before you're able to sleep.
˖ ࣪⭑ ꒱
waiting with serious worry, you call james' name once more, the sound reverberating in your ear. you had mere minutes before you needed to leave work, and you think now, that it may have been a tad foolish to call james about last night's event.
but it weighed heavy on you all day— so much so that you're sure you've barely said more than four words to your co-workers.
"sorry, i think i just had the best laugh of the year over that." he finally says, voice ridden with humor.
you groan, "what if he..." you trail off.
"you've told him you loved him before? am i wrong here?" he asks.
there's a sigh from you, "it's the way i said it, prongs. i sounded like i belonged in casablanca—"
james interrupts you with a horrible transatlantic accent, "we'll always have paris."
"james." you huff.
"what? it's an excellent muggle film!" he chuckles, "not to worry though, this is the same sirius black, who until very recently, thought that alice and frank were just roommates."
this causes you to smile, "i refuse to say you're right, but, there may be a small chance that you're not too far off."
"merlin, woman, please workshop your gratitude." he jokes.
soon the conversation turns less dire and more excited, the both of you checking all the fine details for sirius' welcome home party. the plan, simple, meet at james' and make sure everything was perfect.
by the time you clocked out, you actually felt better. you gave soft smiles to the other nurses before all of you apparated away.
when you arrive at the potter's front door, you let yourself in.
"hi honey!" lily grabs you for a hug, "how was work?"
you shrug, "long— especially today."
you see both james and remus behind her, bickering over a welcome home banner.
she grins, "i overheard your little confession, you know? james has trouble with private conversations, even more when they're over the phone."
you cringe, "i knew i should've called mary."
lily laughs, guiding both of you toward the kitchen, "he was right though, nothing to stress over."
you lean against the island, "i think i'm more so anticipating how strange it'll be to see him again, now that, well."
your point is mute, but she nods in understanding.
"it's still sirius." she adds, pulling veggie boards out of the fridge.
you grab a few cucumbers and roll your eyes, suddenly much more interested in the wide array of trays and platters of food, "how much do you think a handful of people can eat?"
she looks down at the nearly cluttered island, "james insisted muggles didn't feed people on planes."
you furrow your brows.
"i find it's best when i don't correct him." there's a smile on her lips at the words.
the two of you slip into a comfortable silence, prepping punch, icing a shabby little cake, and trying to find space for all of the different food trays.
the hours fly by. you enjoy the prep though. you've managed to stop at least two petty arguments— both involving the very headfast james. there's little else to occupy yourself with, so you absentmindedly pull out copious amounts of plastic dinnerware and cups.
upon falling short of finding the rest of said cups, you find yourself outside, searching through james' shed. first bought to house sirius' bike and now used as a catch-all.
just as you spot the cups, there's rustling behind you. you freeze and pray to every god that there are no rabid animals living in this shed.
you turn, slowly, and are greeted by messy black hair, a smug smirk, and his deep voice, "fancy seeing you here, little love."
you hastily attempt to exit the maze of the shed, rushing the tall man into a tight hug.
"you should be inside!" you say, large grin overtaking your features.
sirius pulls away from you, letting his arms rest around you, "and not say hello to you first? never, little love."
you can't hide the way your face softens at his words, "i've really missed you, you know?"
he brightens, "of course, everyone kept telling me."
your eyes widen, "what do you mean?"
"mary, remus, lily, dorcas, james, frank— the whole lot. all the every talked about was you. which, i'll add, did bruise my ego." he admits, light-hearted.
you groan, "i'll never tell them secrets again."
sirius looks confused, "we have a secret?"
his tone is full of faux shock and your shake your head, "no, sir, i have the secret."
he lowers his mouth to your ear, "pray tell, what is this secret i've missed?"
you can't help the roll of your eyes, "don't play dumb, pads."
you feel his smile against you. seconds pass without words.
"i brought you something." he speaks finally, backing away from you to dig into his jacket pocket.
the way he dropped the previous conversation stuns you, so you watch wordlessly as he hands you a small green box.
you furrow your brows and he continues, "i, uh, got it back when we were in sydney."
you smile and open the box.
above plush white stuffing, sits a gold charm bracelet. you lift it up, studying it. only one charm hangs from it— a little telephone with red gems for buttons.
you look back to sirius, a stupid grin on your face, "i love it. thank you, really, you didn't have to."
he takes the box from you, setting it on a lawnchair before helping you clasp the bracelet on, "believe me, love, i most assuredly had to."
you look up at him, head mere inches from his own.
"i meant, or i thought better, to tell you now rather than before i left." he whispers, suddenly so earnest.
"tell me what?" you ask, barely above a whisper. you're far too focused on the way his hand never left your wrist, grasped so gingerly.
he blinks slowly before leaning into you, "just how i love you." his words are said with a smile.
you attempt to say something, but he shakes his head softly, "and how i so desperately want you to say it back."
you waste little time, "i love you too, sirius." your voice is breathy, but by the look in his eyes, you can tell he heard you.
he says nothing else, no, he just pulls you into him. his lips find yours in a soft kiss. it feels endearing, enthralling, something so perfect.
his lips taste of vanilla and menthol— and you're sure those two things shouldn't taste as addicting as they do. but they do.
you attempt to kiss him back in the same enchanting way, but more so, you attempt to keep your knees from faltering beneath you.
when you pull away, breathing heavily, you scan his flushed face. chuckling you admit, "i guess you uncovered my secret."
sirius smirks, "actually, you kept it pretty well guarded," he pauses, "until you told prongs."
you open your mouth, "how long?"
"have i known?" he asks, and you nod, "since i landed in italy."
you groan, "that wasn't even a month after you left!
he laughs, "what can i say, love— james isn't fit with secrets." he pulls you close again, staring at you lovingly, "besides, it doesn't matter. i got my girl."
there's a bright smile on your lips and you close your eyes, leaning your head on his chest.
"though, we may have to switch you out to a landline. if i remember correctly, mary may have something about your multiple phone cord incidents." he teases.
far too focused on the warmth of his chest and the beating of his heart, you smile, "not multiple, possibly three handfuls of incidents."
he kisses the top of your head, "you sweet thing, i adore you."

First Impressions With; James Potter (Marauders)
Tumblr media
A/N: Holy shit, hello again. Been a damn minute, six month hiatus yet again. First semester of college kicked my ass, but I can’t get this idea out of my head lately. To anyone who reads and even enjoys, please leave a comment. I love any and all feedback. Missed you guys, sorry I was MIA. :)
Summary: The one where you finally confront the egotistical chaser for Gryffindor, and realize things aren’t always as they seem.
TW: Descriptions of assault, attempted assault, ect. It’s lengthy asf apologies in advance
Tumblr media
James Potter is undoubtedly the most insufferable, pompous, self-absorbed asshole to ever grace Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
You’re sure of it.
At least, that’s what you keep telling yourself as you grip the chilled glass of firewhisky between Lilly and Marlene. Watching the raven-haired boy amongst his friends in the Gryffindor common room. It’s a fairly relaxed night, you’d save the real partying for the weekends. Though you’d all survived a particularly difficult potions exam, and found it more than enough means to celebrate with a small get-together. There isn't much to worry about when it came to drinking under school-roof. Seeing as your prefect was one of the many students indulging in the nights activities, nursing his own glass along his friends. Remus is a sandy-haired, soft spoken student you’ve come to know through Lily and Marlene.
It’s a wonder he even gives the rambunctious Potter the time of day, let alone choose to call him a friend.
“Head boy, can you believe they’ve considered appointing him head boy for next year? James Potter, having authority over even the prefects, what a load of crap.”
“He’s not that bad, he’s actually quite pleasant at times.” You shoot a look to your redheaded best friend, who’d see the good in even the worst of people.
“Respectfully, Lilly, if I were to maliciously pour this drink onto your lap, you’d forgive me in a millisecond. I don’t necessarily trust your character judgement.”
“Ever the dramatic, y/n. And I’d forgive you because I love you, but not after ‘accidentally’ spilling my drink on you.” She kisses the crown of your head cheekily before grabbing you and Marlene’s empty glasses, seeking to refill them. You wave her affection off despite the blush of your cheeks.
And then Potter says something that catches your attention almost instantly.
“Where do you think the lonely bloke is now? Probably in his dorm, moping about like always.” The fellow sixth year seems to have had half a glass too many, sudden passionate disdain for the Slytherin hadn’t been a topic the entire night.
“You a fan of his, Potter?” You snap from the couch across him, catching the attention of the burly kid and his friends. The alcohol in your system also the cause of such an abrupt remark.
“Sorry?” He asks through a half-hearted laugh, incredulous gaze revealing the intense hazel in his eyes you hadn’t noticed before.
“Are you a fan, would you like an autograph or something? I only ask because he’s almost all you talk about. And you can’t seem to leave him alone.” Marlene straightens beside you, sharing a confused look with the rest of the boys sat beside James. Who quirks his head at your irritated tone.
“And you are?”
“Tired of your bullshit, leave the kid alone.” You’ve honestly been waiting for give the Chaser a piece of your mind since you saw him trip the sullen Slytherin in the library. You hate a bully, and you’d be damned to stand by and watch. Not to mention his incessant pestering of your kind-hearted best friend, who returns to you with full glasses and a stern look pointed your way. You ignore her silent disciplining, too enveloped in your staring match with the boy opposite you.
“Just a bit of fun, love. Nothing to get upset about.” Sirius, another acquaintance through your girlfriends, attempts to ease the tension. Setting a hand on James’ tensing shoulder.
“I don’t think he’s having much fun. Seems a bit one sided if you ask me.”
“But we didn’t. Ask you, I mean.” You cock your head, pleasantly surprised at Potter’s wit. Having mistaken him for the dumb on the spot type.
Maybe it’s not your business, maybe your actions are making an enemy for no reason. But you know the likes of James Potter.Coming from a wealthy, well-known wizard family. And Snape, who was a half-blood, and not a wealthy one at that. At least, you’d assumed from his hand-me-down robes and unkept clothes on the train your first year at Hogwarts. He’d confided in Lily a couple times, and from what you could understand he was simply a quiet boy who was terribly misunderstood. Being a half-blood yourself, you’d fallen victim to some snotty comments from other students. And if Potter’s quarrel with the boy was due to his status and lack of pure-blood, you wouldn’t dare let him get away with it.
“Maybe we should head up to the dorm-” Marlene starts before James interjects.
“Nonsense, we were just leaving. Have a wonderful rest of your night Marlene, Lills, and-” He pauses, eyes narrowing in silent challenge.
“Y/n.” You deadpan, pretending not to notice the anxious expressions of the boy’s friends and those of your own beside you.
He hums, giving you a once over before finishing the remaining contents of his glass in an embellished swoop. Setting it down with an intensity that makes Remus cringe. “Y/n.” He tests the word on his lips, tongue running over his teeth with a vexed smirk. “Pleasure, truly.”
“I’m sure.” You quip instantly, taking a particularly large sip of your own drink and tilting your glass in farewell. He scoffs, turning on his heel and heading to the boys’ dormitory without another word.
“Alright, what the fuck was that?” Dorcas accuses, having silently entered the room amongst the commotion. Her astonishment pulls a laugh from you, and Lilly’s eyes widen tenfold.
“Laughing, she’s laughing? Merlin, you amaze me!”
“I’m right, aren’t I? He’s mean to that poor boy for no reason. He’s pompous Lilly, thinks he’s better than some of us for being muggle-born. I wont tolerate it.”
“Has he said that? Has he personally told you that?”
“Doesn’t have to.” You cross your arms, defensive.” She only throws her arms up in exasperation as you begin to aid Marlene in cleaning up the room.
“He’s a bit messy as well.” The dark-haired girl holds up his empty glass, biting back a smile when Lilly smacks her palm to her forehead, exasperated.
***********
You’re at an actual party this time when you interact with James Potter again.
Ravenclaw is hosting after a successful round of midterms has finished. You can finally shake the mid-semester stress away and enjoy yourselves for the few days break you receive from classes. It took longer than expected to enter the house’s commons. Sirius had reassured you all he knew the riddle to get inside, until he in fact, did not know the riddle, and you were all left coughing through a fit of charmed smoke. Until a a soft-spoken second year, no less, walked by and allowed the group of you in.
“Beautiful, you’ve just earned yourself a glass of firewhisky, love.” Sirius yelps when Remus smacks him upside the head, watching as the younger student slips past the rest of you, past the celebratory atmosphere and straight to the dorms. The common room has been charmed to prohibit any students younger than sixth years of entering, thank Merlin.
Those from their respective houses usually enter these parties together, so you’re unfortunately grouped in with the marauders. Including James, who avoids any and all eye contact with you. Both of you sporting deep scowls until you’re finally able to disperse. Most older Hufflepuffs are already there, and Slytherin is the last to enter. Waltzing in with bottles of alcohol they most definitely wont share, contrary to the generosity of the other houses. Who all usually trade bottles of their specialty drinks to one another.
“I’m gonna grab a drink, what do you guys want?” You shout over the music and boisterous laughter emanating from the room, admiring the bronze and blue decorum of the foreign commons. Theres a universal “surprise me” from your girlfriends, and you head off to the drink table with a curt nod. There’s an array of liquors and mixers on the table, and you survey the options before deciding on a simple handful of Hog’s Head brews.
“I don’t take a girl like you to be so keen of draft beer.” Noah Lyre, a stalky seventh year smiles wickedly beside you. Like most Slytherins, a hint of judgement in his tone. “Here, try some of this, my own concoction.”
“I’m alright, thanks.” You offer a tight-lipped smile, nose scrunching from the bitter smell emanating from the shiny black flask from even a foot away. He takes a step closer, to which you raise your brows.
“I insist, you’ve got to at least try it.” He moves the flask toward you once more. To which you stick your hand out, irritated with his wandering eyes and unwavering persistence.
“I said I’m good, thanks.” Is all you say before side-stepping his towering figure and heading back toward your friends. Passing out their respective drinks and taking a few gulps of yours, attempting to brush the creepy interaction off.
“Everything alright?” Marlene leans close so you can hear her, you offer a reassuring smile and a quick nod.
“I think this is the part where you ask Sirius to dance, considering he’s been eyeing you since we got here.” You tease, Lilly and Dorcas following your eyes across the room where the marauders are settled. Sharing a round of shots and shaking their heads to rid themselves of the bitter taste. Marlene steps forward at Dorcas’ shoving, shooting the three of you a half-assed glare before headed toward the boys. Amongst them, James hasn’t rid himself of that pitiful look. Wallowing beside his cheerful friends and taking large sips of the drink in hand. You meet his eyes for a split second, heads ripping away from one another’s direction as if the actions singed your skin.
“Dorcas, look.” Lilly nudges the shorter girl excitedly in the direction of a Hufflepuff on the other side of the room. “It’s that sweet girl from potions who asked me about you, go talk to her!” Dorcas looks terrified, vehemently shaking her head as Lilly grabs her forearm.
“Absolutely not, I’ll make a fool of myself.”
“You will not! C’mon, I’ll introduce you.” The red-head beams as she tugs her along. You ignore the burning glare you receive as you ignore her mouthed ‘help me’ as she’s whisked away.
*******
The atmosphere’s become increasingly chaotic as the night pushes on. You’ve shared a few shots with Marlene and some other acquaintances from your classes. Having just left a rambunctious game of truth or drink before hading into the hall. Not quite near the dormitories, afraid of disturbing any sleeping students, you simply seek a little more quiet. Just near the communal bathrooms, you’re stood admiring a painting of Rowena Ravenclaw. Watching as an eagle swoops by in the background.
“There you are, I’ve been looking all over for you.” You spin on your heel to see Noah, significantly drunker now as compared to his last appearance
“I think you’ve got the wrong person.” You cross your arms, taking a couple steps back as he stumbles toward you.
“No, I don’t think so.” He sneers, same lustful eyes raking over your form. You square your shoulders at an attempt to appear bigger than you are, heart racing at the oncoming severity of the situation. He reaches out to play with a strand of your hair and you fight a gag at the overwhelming smell of liquor leaking from his pores.
“My friends will be wondering where I am, see you around.” You force out, attempting to shuffle past him when he takes strong hold of your wrist. Grip so tight you lose your breath. He tugs you into his chest, sneering when you struggle in his grasp.
“Get the fuck off me.” You all but shout, panic shooting through your chest when he backs you into a wall.
“Where are you going, love? I just got here.”
“Let me go, I fucking mean it.” You stomp on his foot, crying out when he he pulls you forward and smacks you against the wall. The back of your head coming into contact with the painting. Distantly, you hear the enchanted eagle squeak in surprise.
Your cries for help are muffled when he wraps his hand around your throat, forcing the air from your lungs as your eyes go wide in terror.
“Just behave, sweetheart. This’ll be so much more enjoyable if you do.” Tears prick at your eyes not only from the inability to breathe but from his revolting words. Faintly, you hear the unclasping of a belt buckle as you writhe and kick with all your might. He’s much larger than you are, though, pressing the force of his entire body weight onto you to cease your fight. With his free hand, Noah enclasps both of your wrists together and forces them above your head and against the cold, hard stone. You feel his lips graze your jaw as bile rises in your throat, mentally preparing for whats to come next before he’s suddenly ripped off of you.
You collapse to the floor, clutching your throat and gasping for air. The room spins, and you shake your head to come to your senses. It’s dark in this hall, but it’s clear whoever has the Slytherin blonde in his grasp is severely beating the shit out of him. You stumble to your feet, wiping the blurred moisture from your eyes to gather yourself. It’s then you realize the identity of the assailant. Unmistaking the familiar head of dark curls and tall, brooding figure.
James. Fucking. Potter.
Potter, landing blow after blow, doesn’t stop his assault even as blood (and what looks like a couple teeth) spews from Noah’s mouth.
You try to speak, but your own voice fails you. Strained and cracking from the pressure it’s been under. You cough, trying again with your hands out in front of you.
“J-James!” Is all you manage, croaked and unfamiliar to your ears. It’s the first time you’ve ever voiced his first name aloud. This must stun him, too, because he pauses his assault to look over his shoulder at you. Noah groans underneath him, and the disheveled Gryffindor spits on the floor next to him in utter disgust. There’s a final blow to his head that makes you wince, and Noah’s out cold.
James stands, wobbling for just a moment before he straightens. Rolling his neck in a slow circle, strained with effort. You take in his sharp, handsome features, still in pure shock. He takes in your trembling form and immediately snaps his head away. You quirk a brow, confused when he shakes his jacket off his shoulders and holds it out to you. Only when you look down do you realize your blouse has been torn. Quickly taking the fabric and wrapping it around your shoulders with deep embarrassment and misplaced shame.
Silently, James uncuffs his sleeves and rolls them up toward his elbows. “I’m gonna kill him,” he grabs the unconscious boy by the collar and pulls his arm back to lay yet another punch before you stop him. Hands clasped around his veined forearm and pulling it down.
“You’ll be expelled!”
“Fuck’s that matter?”
“You’re not thinking straight, look at him. He’s out, he wont be getting up any time soon. It’s fine, it’s over”
“It’s not fine. Nothing about this is fine.” He’s hot with anger, running a hand through his tousled hair and grimacing at the pain that shoots through up his arm.
“Your hands.” You whisper, to which the boy surveys his own handiwork, covered in blood and cut up from his own rings. He shrugs, eyes narrowing as he notices the uncontrollable trembling of the appendages. You reach out to touch them, but he pulls away. Afraid of any further pain. You pull your hands to your chest, shocked at the red marks already forming all over your wrists.
“You alright?” He mutters, tone softer than you’ve ever heard before. It’s odd, the sudden quiet of it all. Only the muffled music from the common room to be heard in the background.
“Better off than him, I suppose.” You make a meek attempt at a joke, nudging the bloodied boy on the floor with your foot.
To your surprise, three Slytherin boys scurry into the hallway. Stopping short in their tracks with mouths open wide. James steps in front of you without a second thought, wiping the excess blood onto his trousers and nodding his head toward the unconscious kid in front of him.
“Get him out of my fucking sight.” The trio doesn’t speak, shuffling into action the instant he finishes the command. It’s a struggle for them to lift up the dead weight, but they move fast enough after James releases an exasperated sigh. Right as they exit, James’ friends and your own stop dead in their tacks, trying to process all they’ve just seen. In the other room, the music cuts short, you and James both pull a face in understanding. This’ll be the talk of the school for the next week.
“We should go. All of us.” Remus announces, the rest of you nod. Your friends are on you in an instant, tugging the jacket tighter around you and checking your body for further injury. You let them hover, knowing they must be in almost as much shock as you. It’s a wordless shuffle back to the dorms, the boys ensuring their bodies shield your own as you make your way through the halls. You separate when you reach the common room of Gryffindor, and James is the last pair of eyes you meet with before sulking into your respective dorms.
It’s only when you reach your bed do you allow yourself to be overcome with sobs. The weight of all thats happened collapsing in on you. All the girls can do is stroke your hair and whisper idle reassurances. When you finally relax a little, Marlene waves her wand over your head. Casting a peaceful sleep spell to get you through the night.
**********
Taking the steps up into the boy’s dormitory has your heart racing. The memories of last night never having left your mind. Despite the lingering, slight hangover you’re fighting, the only real evidence of the assault is the bruising on your neck and wrists, faded now that Lilly’s cast a charm on them. The deep, purple marks, and the whispers of fellow students. Unsurprisingly, word got out about what happened, and there’s been a lot of stares. After a concise meeting with McGonagall, Noah’s been expelled. You overhear in a hushed conversation between a few third-years that he’d walked out of his dorm with his belongings in hand, head hanging low to conceal the developing shiners on his face. A few slow, deep breathes, to ground yourself before knocking on the door.
It’s Sirius who answers, offering the same sympathetic gaze you’ve been receiving all morning.
“Hey, love.” He offers simply, studying your anxious form.
“Hi, I didn’t mean to bother you guys I just...” You fumble over words despite having rehearsed this scenario a million time in the past hour. “I just wanted to return this to James, he lent it to me last night. I also never got to thank him, so please extend my gratitude when you see him.” You extend your arms, offering him the fabric in hand. Expecting him to accept it and bid you farewell. Cringing when you think you sound too formal and, well, rehearsed.
“Nonsense, you can tell him yourself when he comes back. He was called to Dumbledore’s office but he should be back any minute.” He reads your sullen expression at the mention of potential discipline for an incident he didn’t have to get involved in, but he waves his hand dismissively.
“Dumbledore knows what happened, might revoke a few points form Gryffindor but Prongs won’t be punished. It was self defense, really.” The raven haired boy comes to realize rambling on about the traumatic events are most likely not what you need to hear right now, so he clears his throat and smiles once again. Sirius Black, of course, does the complete opposite of what you’d expect him to do. Stepping aside to welcome you in. “Come in, come in, Remus just started a pot of tea.”
“Oh, no, thank you. I didn’t mean to intrude I just meant to drop this off and-”
“Please, we insist. Besides, I’ve been meaning to talk to you.”
“You have?”
“Of course.” There’s a few beats of silence, and you accept the cup of tea Remus offers with a kind smile. Feeling utterly undeserving of such gestures due to your last interaction. Sirius, realizing he’s supposed to be leading the conversation, then continues...
“I simply need to get to know any girl who can make Prongs speechless. And you did, in the common room the other night.”
“About that, I just wanted to apologize. I think I gave off the wrong impression and-”
“You can’t be serious, we loved it!” Sirius interrupts passionately.
“It was a little harsh, sure.” Remus translates for his dear friend, as usual. Albeit true. James can come off a little...” He searches for the appropriate words, handing Sirius a steaming cup as he continues. “...Brooding, at times. But he means well. He has a good heart, just a little ‘do before you think or say’ kind of guy.”
“So I’ve noticed.” You joke, not unkind.
“See! That there. You’re quite witty, and fiery as well. James needs that in his life!” Your eyes widen at his presumption, Remus winces.
“What he means to say, is James is quite stubborn. And doesn’t always listen to us when we try to nudge him in the right direction.” The lanky boy recovers, not before shooting Sirius a look.
“And I do?” You laugh, amused at the absurdity of such a notion.
“Yes.” They chime in unison, Sirius delighted in the abashed heat that singes your skin. He grips the chair in front of you, and you suddenly feel very small in their kitchenette of their dorm.
“Prongs, James, is not silenced very often, if at all. He was mute for like, two whole days after your little argument in commons.”
“Right.” You mutter, shame heavy in your tone. “I see now it was a bit, bitchy of me.” The two are a little taken aback by your language, though you continue anyway. “I didn’t have all the details about the situation. I just felt I had to say something...My mom’s a muggle, and I don’t know. I got defensive at the notion that he was the type of person to see her as less because she isn’t a witch. I made an assumption, a wrong one at that, and I feel terrible about it. Especially after last night.” Keys clatter as you finish, and you’re stunned to see James at the doorway, having heard your entire spiel.
“Oh, hey” You mutter plainly, horribly embarrassed.
“Hello.” James swallows, fiddling with the worn wrap covering his hand. “Does it hurt much?”
“Sorry?”
“The bruising,” he motions to his neck in reference to yours, and you realize Lilly’s charms have completely worn off now. You caress the tender skin with a wince, smiling softly in reassurance to the concerned looks it earns. You take out your wand, aiming to perform the spell once again before James shakes his head. “Don’t. You shouldn’t have to hide what happened. He should live with the shame. Should have kept hitting the bastard.” He mutters the last part to himself, fist closing tightly and then releasing, jaw tensing as he recalls the conflict.
“I think he got the message, Prongs.” Remus mumbles idly. James only shakes his head, clearing his throat and once again fiddling with the wraps around his hand.
“You should probably change those. Here, let me help.” You get up from your seat, surprising even yourself as you approach the much taller boy. opening the discarded first aid kit strewn on the kitchen counter, they must have left it out in last  night’s commotion.
“It’s fine, really. I’ve had worse.” James tries to pull away but you grab his arm and bring it toward you. Eyes full of such sincerity the boy finds his mouth has gone dry. He hadn’t noticed how bad the bruising was until now. Up this close, he can see the discoloration shaping out where Noah’s fingers were. It makes his stomach turn, flashes of the image forever ingrained in his mind. He can only imagine how it must be for you. And despite your strained relationship, James Potter comes to the conclusion that he’s been awfully concerned over your well-being the past 24 hours.
“Please, it’s the least I can do.” Silently, you unravel the fraying wrap from his hands.
“You know it’s against school policy, James. Laying your hands on another student. I should expel you.”
“Professor-”
“No matter, I understand the reason behind your actions. While I won’t tolerate any more violence on your behalf, I think you did what was...necessary.”
James only nods, eager to go back to his dorm hide under his duvet. It’s all been so overwhelming. The stares, the whispers, the shaky feeling he’s had all say. Knowing you must be experiencing it tenfold.
“Now, please Mr. Potter, straight to your dormitory. And try and look as though I’ve actually disciplined you.”
James snaps out of his thoughts when you flinch. In his daze, he’d reached out toward your neck. And although you’re certain he’d never harm you, you’ve been avoiding any physical touch since the incident.
“Sorry, so sorry.” He manages dumbly, avoiding the not so subtle gawking of his friends. They know the boy better than himself, and know when he’s smitten over someone. Fuck, had he really just thought that?
“It’s alright. I’m still a little jumpy I guess.” You say plainly, not quite gathering the weight of your words until you notice their collective reactions. You hate it, the pitiful gazes. Looking at you as if one wrong move could break you.
“Sirius, we have to go do that thing.” Remus grabs the former by his arm, pulling him past you and James and toward the door. Sirius, still staring at the pair of you, clutches onto any furniture that will halt his friends actions.
“No, there is nowhere we need to be, I’m perfectly fine right here!” He shouts in a panic, seemingly enamored with the two of you.
“It’s very urgent, the thing we need to do. See you both at dinner.” Remus hurries his farewell, tugging a pouting, squirming Sirius all the way.
“It was just getting good!” You hear from down the hall before James shuts the door with his foot.
“What’s gotten into them?”
“You should know they are almost always that insufferable.” James deadpans, though there’s a faint fondness in his tone. You know he loves them much more than he’d like to admit. It’s endearing. You've just referred to James Potter as endearing...What a bizarre 24 hours.
“I don’t think I’ve said thank you yet.” You laugh, despite the absurdity of it all.
“No need to thank me.” He only shakes his head, watching as you pour a small container of bewitched ointment onto a cotton ball. It smells strongly of herbs and peppermint, and the muscled, supposedly tough sixth year pulls his hand away before you can dab it onto his knuckles with a small grunt.
“C’mon, I haven’t even started.” It’s the first time in a while he’s seen you genuinely smile since everything happened. You like to tease James Potter, and he likes it too.
“Smells awful, I’ll get Remus to find a healing spell.”
“You need topical medicine, not a spell that will ware off.” You tug at his arm once again, both shocked at the force of it, so strong he has to take a step forward. Close enough to feel the warmth emanating from you. He’d probably be able to smell your hair too, if the horrid ointment was capped. He’s once again taken aback by his own longing thoughts. Just two days ago, Potter considered you an enemy.
He sucks his teeth when you begin to apply the medicine, doing your best to be gentle. You pause, waiting for his signal to continue.
“Didn’t tell me it was gonna sting.”
“Would you have let me put it on if I did?” You shoot him that incredulous look again, and James has to bow his head so he can manage to speak. You’re much too intense for him to bear, he thinks. And he then understands how much trouble these feelings will get him in.
“There is a need. To thank you, I mean.” Unable to control the shudder of your shoulders when he releases a deep, pained breath from your work. Hoping he hasn’t noticed.
“Y/n, I already said-”
“James,” There’s his name on your lips again. And it seems the two of you recognize its foreign nature once more. “If you hadn’t stepped in he could have-” You stop yourself, swallowing hard to fight the nausea. “You and I both know what could have happened. I didn’t...I haven’t taken that gesture lightly. Let me appreciate that.” You’re stern albeit no less kind as you begin to re-wrap his knuckles. Skin grazing his as you go. He’s silent, staring so reverently it takes your breath away. “Thank you.”
“Welcome.” He whispers, and you swear you see. For only a millisecond, James Potter’s eyes avert to your lips. And you think he might kiss you. And you think you might want him to. He pushes a strand of hair from your face, leaning even closer to you. You blink, slow with a reminder breathe, as you realized you hadn’t been the last few seconds. His hand trails down to your jaw, gently tilting your head up toward him. You let your lids closing, awaiting his lips on yours at any moment.
“We should put ice on it.”
“What?” Your eyes shoot open, and James has just most definitely fucked that up.
“Your neck. There could be swelling.”  He attempts to caress the skin there, but you step back, ears burning hot with embarrassment. Why did you think he was gonna kiss you, why did you want him to?
“Oh, sure. Right.” You watch as he fumbles about to the fridge, grabbing an ice pack and wrapping it in a paper towel before outstretching his hand toward you. Internally cringing when you take et instead of allowing him to place it on you. Merlin, I’m an idiot.
“Dinner. We should go eat.” You collect yourself, moving toward the door when James nods hurriedly.
“Right, dinner. I’m starving, actually” He fumbles horribly, wincing at the crack in his voice. “I’ll meet you down there.” You nod, reaching for the door when he stops you.
“Y/n?” You halt instantly, turning on your heel in hopes you haven fucked up as royally as you assume. The chaser scratched the back of his neck with a pained smile. “Thank you for returning the jacket. And, uh.” He gestures with his hands in reference to the bandaging. All you manage is a tight-lipped smile. And he swears he sees a hint of moisture pricking at your eyes, mouth agape to say something, anything. But you’re out the door before he can even blink. Not hearing the flood of curses escaping his mouth after kicking the kitchen bin in a fit of anger, clutching the now throbbing foot and hopping around the room like the bumbling idiot he is.
***********
Dinner is weird. Really weird. Sirius insists you and your girlfriends sit with the marauders. Taking you by the shoulders and sitting you right beside a silent James. Marlene and Lilly were delighted, having always wanted to sit by the boys. Though with your not-so-secret disdain for Potter had always made meals a little weird before. You’d talk mostly to Dorcas, who was always eager for good conversation if it meant she could listen and not have to talk as much as you did. You understood her quiet nature more than the other girls, and often borrowed whatever book she’d be willing to lend you in leu of shared analysis.
But now, Dorcas was looking between you and James with a shit-eating smirk. Much like that of Remus beside her, who pretended to be more interested in the book in hand rather than the two in front of him. Pushing the food around on their plate idly, whatever bites taken were chewed slow and with deep thought.
“This is nice,” Sirius chimes cheekily. “All of us, eating together. I think we’ve found ourselves an established group. Don’t ya think, Prongs?”
“What?” The boy voices beside you, much too loud to be appropriate. You’re both still getting stares from some of your peers. Although most of the buzz of what’s happened having worn off, now you’re seen sitting right beside one another. Bandages and all.
A couple of Slytherin girls make their gossip particularly obvious across the room, one of them pointing at you as the rest giggle along. You sink impossibly closer into your seat.
“Ignore them.” James mutters, practically seething as he stares them down. “They have half a mind to start double checking the locks on their doors. Seeing as that’s the type of boys they have lingering about in their house.” He finishes dryly, doing a double take when he finally glances your way. Fists clenched in rage once more as you blink away tears.
“He’s gone now, for good.” Marlene reassures, flicking Sirius on the forehead when he does little to conceal his searching of your teary eyes.
“How’s it feel, the bruising. You think the ice helped any?” James asks for what is likely the tenth time since you’ve sat down. Gently knocking your arm away that tries to stop him from taking hold of your chin. Surveying the discolored skin with a deep frown.
“Probably in the same condition as it was ten minutes ago. And the ten minutes before that.” Black deadpans, yelping when Lily kicks his shin from under the table. Smiling sweetly when you and James jerk your heads toward the commotion.
“Let’s change topics, yeah? Remus, how’s that book you’re reading there.” The sandy-haired boy is mid bite when she asks, mortified all the attention has turned to him.
“Lovely,” is all he manages, swallowing thickly.
“I’m gonna head up to bed.” You announce, tossing your napkin onto your barely touched plate of food with a feigned smile. They all straighten, offering a chorus of soft- spoken ‘goodnights’ as you rise from your seat.
“I’ll come with you.” Lilly moves to get up, but you wave your hand.
“No need, I’ll manage. See you up there.” You gather your things before heading toward the large doors of the great hall. Pulling up the collar of your dress shirt as you feel a few pairs of eyes follow you.
James scrambles from the table without a word, hot on your heels as you both exit.
“Y/n, wait up. Y/n!” You cease your movements, so sudden James has to steady himself on your shoulders. You look around, glaring at a few fourth years as they gawk at you. Whispering all the way. You pul your shoulder back to leave his grasp, guilt overcoming you when a flash of hurt overcomes his features.
“People are watching, Potter.” You mutter, paranoid eyes darting around you. James stiffens, pained by your sudden formalities.
“So what? Let them say whatever they’re gonna say. We know what happened.” He crosses his arms, brows taught with tension.
“It’s not that easy for me.” You defend, fiddling with your collar once again.
“I told you to stop covering that,” James reaches out to adjust the fabric himself. Further irritated when you pull his hand away.
“They aren’t going to spin this on you, James. You don’t understand.”
“I don’t understand, I think I’m well aware of whats gonna happen. This is all gonna blow over, and this school will be better off without that piece of shit.”
“No!” You blench at your own volume, shaking your head before continuing. “You want to know what they’ll say Potter? That I asked for it.” James steps back, disgusted at the notion.
“Why on Earth would they say that?”
“Because that’s what some people say to make themselves feel safer, it’s easier to blame me than him.” You shrug, throat tightening at the realization.
“Where’s this coming from?”
“There was a note, in the girls lavatory. Dorcas tried to throw it away so I wouldn’t see but, I did.” James studies your face, awaiting you to continue with soft eyes. “Some Slytherins are saying I made it up, since Noah’s such a good Quidditch player, was gonna be captain next year.”
“Good at Quidditch player, he’s a beater thats hit three of his teammates because he can’t aim.” It forces a strained chuckle from you, and you only shake your head.
“Doesn’t matter James, they’re saying I got him expelled for Gryffindor’s team because we’re-” You stop yourself, somehow even more uncomfortable.
“We’re what?” He cocks his head when you motion between yourselves, sighing at his confusion.
“That we’re together, James.”
“Oh.” He scratches his nose, shuffling through the beats of awkward silence.
“Yeah.”
“Well it’s all bullshit, why are you letting it get to you?” You practically draw in on yourself at his words, fresh tears begging to escape your eyes at his unbeknownst cruelty.
“Right, it’s all bullshit. You’re right, I should just let it go. We can get back to our normal routines and everyone will see it isn’t true.” You attempt to turn away from him, but he grabs the fabric of your robes.
“I’m sorry,” he laughs despite himself. “Am I missing something here?”
You falter, opening your mouth to respond but not quite sure what to say. He looks genuinely distressed, and you make one last attempt at extending an opportunity. “I don’t know, are you?” He’s silent, searching your face for answers you can’t give him. Panicking at the though of losing contact despite all you’ve been through.
“Did you mean what you said about me. In the dorms.”
“James, I told you-”
“No, you didn’t. Do you really believe I think you’re less than me because you’re a half-blood? You really think that matters to me?”
“No, not anymore, anyway.” James smirks, stepping closer when your brows furrow in confusion at his sudden mood change.
“So I’m not as pompous as you thought I was?”
“You most definitely have a big ego, Potter.”
“That’s not what I asked.” He takes your jaw in his hold, eyebrows raised in teasing inquiry. You lick your lips, swallowing thickly and avoiding his eyes.
“What d’you think they’d all say if I kissed you, then?” You almost cough, choking on your own saliva at his words. The cheeky bastard just keeps smiling, basking in your flushed demeanor.
“Oh eat slugs, Pott-” Your interrupted with his lips on yours, lifting off of your heels to make it easier for him. James, insufferable as always, is grinning the entire time.
“Yes! He made the first move, Remus. You owe me two galleons-” Sirius is cut off by his own whimper. What must be the lot of your spying friends shoves him into the hallway so he’s the only one caught, in which he stands speechless under your glares.
“A sweet little first year lost her cat, you guys seen it by any chance? No matter, I’ll keep looking for it. Bloody kids always losing their pets.” And Sirius, the dope that he is, begins to make kissing noises in a meek attempt at recovery. Feigned grumbles of “here, kitty.” Echo down the hallways before you hear his fleeting footsteps.
You press your forehead into James’ chest, utterly embarrassed and admittedly exhausted. What a bizarre 24 hours

Plus sized Lily Evans x Fem!Reader
Eating Lily Evans out
Warnings: Smut, Oral sex female recieving, slight exhibitionism, sort of d/s themes, praising, fingering
Hope you enjoy it, smut under the cut
"You are so good for this, oh my god." Lily moaned, her grip tightening in your hair, pulling you closer, enveloping your head with her plush thighs.  You moaned, lifting your head just a bit to respond to her.  It was the best part of your day, whenever Lily Evans decided that she wanted your tongue on her cunt.
"Thank you."  You sighed, ducking back down, licking and sucking her clit into your mouth as you slipped two fingers inside of her, curling.  She let out a low groan of approval.
"I'm gonna take you out for such a nice dinner after this baby.  Just keep going."  She said, and you whimpered, looking up.  You wanted nothing more than to run your fingers over the plush, soft skin of her stomach, but you couldn't ignore the throbbing ache between your own thighs.  You reached down and rubbed at your clit, moaning against her cunt as you felt some relief.  Lily must have noticed because she sat up on her elbow, pulling you up by your hair.  The way that her stomach creased drove you mad, making you strain to bury your face once again, but instead she fully sat up, gripping under your chin with a smirk.
"Don't baby.  You can't touch what's mine, you know the rules on that."  Lily said, her voice coming out dangerously sweet, making your heart race as you pouted.  You wanted to feel good... or to make yourself feel even better, why wouldn't she let you?
"But-."  She shook her head, pulling you up enough to give her a lingering kiss before pushing you back down.
"No, you have to-."
"Evans?  Are you in here?"  You both froze at the sound of Marlene's voice, not to far from Lily's bedroom.  She didn't know about the two of you... or if she did she hadn't ever asked about it... Lily took a deep breath and pulled her comforter over you and up to her chest, using the hand buried in your hair to push you back between her thighs.
"Shit... Keep going baby, just keep quiet, okay?"  She asked, and you paused for a moment.  What if Marlene found out?  She was perceptive enough, it wouldn't take much to piece two and two together if something went awry.
"But-."  She pushed your head again, her intention and decision clear.  There was no fighting her on this.
"I said keep going, are we clear?  And if you stop, you'll live to regret it, I promise." She said, her tone not displaying the danger in her words, but you knew it was true.  You looped your arms around her legs again, settling down in front of her, licking your lips.  You already knew she was drenched, and your mouth watered at the idea of getting back to what you were best at.
"... Yes ma'am."  You murmured, and you dove back in, moaning at the wetness.  It was ten times more intense like this, only existing in a world that was Lily's cunt, her smell, her skin.  It made you quiver, made you feel all the more helpless as she used you for her own pleasure.
"Right here!"  Lily called, and you were in awe of how level her voice was... normally Lily was so vocal, moaning and praising and it was evident in her tone what was happening... but she managed to hide it quite well as Marlene cracked her door open.
"Someone sent you roses, I just thought you should know.  Left them in the living room with their intials on the card.  Have you seen Y/N?  I think they're from her."  She said, and you sighed against Lily's cunt, making her cough to cover it up.  They were from her, they were the whole reason you were lucky enough to actively be having your head crushed between her thighs right now.  Her breathing was getting more unsteady.
"Oh.  That's so cute...  She's so nice, I hope it is."  She said, her voice betraying her on the last word.  You smirked to yourself and doubled down, part of you absolutely intent on making her break in front of someone.  You wanted to know how she would punish you afterwards, it would be fun.
"Are you alright?  You look like you're going to sick up."  Marlene said, and you nearly laughed, but Lily squeezed your head a little harder with her thighs, a sort of warning.  A very welcome one, you wanted nothing more than to have her crush you to death, and you'd told her as much more than once before.
"I'm fine... just fine..."  Lily said, her mumbling seeming a bit listless as she carefully ground her hips on your mouth, hopefully not being obvious.  She was silent for too long, you knew that, lost in seeking out her own pleasure.
"Lily!"  Marlene snapped, seeming to bring her back to reality as you sucked hard on her clit, making her bite back a moan as you slid in another finger to join the first two.  She let out a breath before clearing her throat.
"Could you grab me some water?  I... I need some."  She said, her voice betraying her more and more with each moment.  Your thrusts became harder, faster, and you sucked on her clit with more urgency, wanting her to cum on your face.
"Uh... Yeah.  Yeah, sure."  She said, and the door shut behind her not a moment later.  Lily threw the comforter off of your head, looking down at you with a heaving chest and pinkened cheeks.  She looked better than any artwork you'd ever seen in a museum.  She threw her head back and all you could see were her stomach and her tits, her body trembling.  You gripped onto her hip with your free hand, letting your fingers sink into the flesh
"Now, baby... I'm cumming now."  She gasped, closing her thighs tight around your head to keep you there, not that you could imagine a place in the world where you would rather be in that moment.
"Good girl... Good girl... God, so good."  She whined, and you kept thrusting your fingers, forcing her into a second orgasm as she shook against the mattress, digging her heels into your back, and when she finally released you, she looked wrecked.  Wrecked, but happy as she drew you up to her, pulling you into a tight hug.
"You, my dear, are so good at that.  You're so good for me, aren't you?"  She murmured, and you nodded, tucking your face against her neck, purposefully throwing a leg over her so that she would feel the wetness between your thighs.  After a moment she let out a quiet moan and reached over, running her fingers over your cunt.
"Yes ma'am.  All for you."  You whimpered, and Lily sat up, a sharklike grin on her face as she hovered above you.  She looked so hot like this, it was almost enough to make you cum untouched.
"I think you've deserved a bit of a reward, haven't you?"  She asked, and you nodded frantically, wanting anything that she was willing to give you.
"Please."  You begged, and she smiled, leaning down to press a kiss to your lips as she sat up, pushing herself off the bed.
"Wait here.  I'll be right back."  She insisted, and you watched her walk over to the dresser and dig through the drawer until she found her strap and harness, making you swallow heavily.  Fuck, you wouldn't be walking tomorrow.

I love how, as much as she messes with every single other time period in the hpverse, JKR doesn't seem to want to even get close to the Marauders. She touches Harry, his kids, young Dumbledore, Tom Riddle's family, the founders, etc. but it looks like she wouldn't touch the Marauders with a ten foot pole.
Allowing the fandom to fill in all the blanks to the point that that side of the fandom has created it's own mythology and headcanons so much that it's completely divorced from canon at this point. Half the stuff that comes out of there not even remotely canon compliant. They're not even hp characters anymore, just ocs with the same name as hp characters like

Companion to Put on Bed Rest
Lily was never one for the cold; she disliked the way it crept into your very bones, the way it would bite at everything that was left exposed. And after a particularly nasty cold, courtesy of James Potter stuffing a snowball down her shirt—something for which he had apologised profusely and she had, in turn, pushed him into the lake over once the frost had thawed. She had learned to stay away from snowball fights.
Even with James having caught something himself, she was not going to risk it. After a quiet stroll through the snow, she avoided the rumbustious crowd and left before they could spot her. Having retrieved herself a flask of hot chocolate from the kitchens, which she had every intention of spiking with some cherry liqueur her father had brought back from his trip to Austria, she made her way back to her bed. She planned on sitting down and devouring one of Hestia’s harlequin romances.
She’d promised her that this one was particularly steamy, and that was just what she needed right now. Even if she would not admit it aloud, having been in such close proximity with James, who is patient, clever, responsible, and disgustingly handsome, she needed something to distract her from her own romantic mishaps.
She had the hope that the whiles of Lucy Brown and her handsome doctor, Travis Walsh, would distract her from her own pathetic predicament. Maybe she’d even got to work off some of that tension that had been brewing just under the surface.
Or not.
Lily could see him sitting in the window the moment she pushed through the portrait hole. The same spot he always used when he wanted to be melodramatic and mope. It was where they would find him after a particularly poor quidditch practice.
It was reserved for the little moments. Things that could easily be fixed, but he just wanted to commiserate. The spot was also notably empty after bigger disappointments. Like lost games or particularly poor news days. She’d learned those were days he would linger at the pitch. He would find somewhere up high to think.
The redhead considered brushing past him, letting him wallow in his self-pity. Only to hear him sniffle and feel the overwhelming need to comfort him. She could hardly let him sit there like that, right? At the very least, she should check. She told herself, and before she knew it, she had said his name. “Potter?” she’d asked quietly.
He turned around, his eyes watery and his skin clammy-looking. He looked like he should be in bed, not sitting around trying to read. Her hand darted out, her fingers brushing his forehead. He was burning up. Great. “You really should go to the hospital wing,” she informed him, worried that he might actually collapse not long from now.
“I’m fine, Evans,” he protested, the words followed by a coughing fit. He was not fine; he was so much not fine that his usual easy smile looked more like a grimace than anything. He genuinely looked like he was in some sort of pain, and Lily resigned herself to taking him to bed.
If he was not going down to the hospital wing, he should at least be lying down. Which was the least she could do, she supposed. Make sure that James lays down and does not injure himself further sitting here. Once he was tucked in, she could resume her afternoon as planned.
“Back to bed with you,” she ordered, jerking her thumb in the direction of the girls’ dorm. A mistake likely made out of habit. A mistake she did not realise she'd made until he'd managed to get up with a lot of huffing and groaning—his muscles stiff from either the cold or the flu he was nursing. And she barrelled past her, up to the girls' dormitories. The precise direction she had directed him in.
Lily watched, expecting the stairs to sound the alarm and send him sliding down on his arse at any moment now. Only when he made it to the curve in the spiral did she realise that he now had Head Boy privileges. He was not going to be barred from the girls' dorms, and panic struck here. Wondering in what state they'd left their room this morning.
She dreaded the possibilities. There were plenty of embarrassing artefacts that James could find. Not just around her bed; he wouldn't even know which one was hers. But that did not mean he needed to stumble onto Marlene's knickers or Hestia's collection of raunchy novellas. Bounding up the stairs after him, her hands reached to grip onto his shirt, which caused him to stall and sway, leaving her space to push past him near the last step.
“Oh no, you are not going in there! No, sir!” Lily protested, placing herself in his path to block the door to her dorm. But he still reached past her to the door handle. This close, she could feel his fever burning through her thick coat, see the sheen of sweat on his forehead, and see the bleary-eyed look behind his glasses.
James gripped the handle, swaying into her dangerously, and she knew that he would not make it back down the stairs without risking a nasty fall. Never mind making it up the stairs to his own bed. “Fucking hell, Potter. You are really not leaving me any choice, are you?” Lily complained through gritted teeth, her arms wrapping around his middle as he staggered into her.
She locked her knees as his full weight came down on her, even if it was just for a moment, until he got his footing back. Just don’t mind the mess, alright.” She pushed his hair back, her hand slick with sweat. The door opened, and they were hit with an overwhelming wave of lavender and eucalyptus, undoubtedly Marlene having spelled it up after endless complaints about the smell of her gear. Or maybe Dorcas, who had been complaining about the smell of their soggy boots that morning.
Whoever it was had overdone it, big time.
Lily blinked as her nose was assaulted. James started coughing, bending over her, and making her grunt at the added weight. Half carrying, half dragging him across the room. Just wanting to get him into a bed now. Once her hands were free, she could dispel the charm.
“You have the same bed,” he remarked, barely able to breathe but no longer coughing.
Letting James collapse into her bed, she quickly kicked yesterday's underwear under the bed before reprimanding him, "Catch your breath before offering commentary.” She gave him a stern look before shrugging off her coat and draping it over her trunk. She was about to ask about his remarks. Effidently, they'd picked the same spot in the dorm during their first year. It almost seemed like fate.
Something was enticing about the look of James Potter in her bed; she thought she was going to be having regardless. However, she supposed he would be sweaty for different reasons. A thought shook from her mind when James remarked, “Your dorm is a lot nicer than mine.” His eyes caught hers with a tired smile. "Smells better too, once you've got used to it."
Lily couldn't help but laugh, a little too enthusiastic. When she snorted, Lily wanted nothing more than the floorboards to swallow her up. Hand clamping over her mouth in fear of a repeat, her cheeks warming up in embarrassment. “That is because Marlene’s Quidditch gear isn’t here,” she told him with a roll of her eyes. “You should smell it then.” Hopefully, the little jest could distract him from her little inelegant moment.
She let him recover from the laughter while she dug through her bedside table, certain that her mother had sent her a jar of Vicks. Something that she thought might help him.
“That might be the problem.” He sniffed. "Too much quidditch gear," he groaned, his fingers pressing into his temples just as she found the little dark blue jar. Holding it out triumphantly, only to realise that James would have no clue what it was or what it might do. Still, she sat on the bed and fixed his collar.
"Can I? It'll help," she promised, already reaching to pull his shirt up, doing her utmost not to be too distracted by the underneath. Waiting for his permission before pushing the fabric up. Exposing his chest. She kept her face down, hiding her flush, as she carefully rubbed the balm into his chest. Only pausing to feel his heart race under her touch. Biting back a smile.
Then he was right there, having pushed himself up to get closer to her. His teeth caught onto his lip, sure that this was it. He was going to kiss her, and she would let him. She would love that; it would have been perfect. Like a moment in one of her books.
As quickly as that moment had come, his heat faded, making her chase it without thinking. Still chasing his lips, wanting that kiss. The enchantment broke when she nearly toppled forward. She had to catch herself on the pillow beside him, draw a shallow breath, and blink back to reality.
Lily scrambled for what to say, cursing herself for blushing this easily. Or rather, that James could make her blush this easily; no one else seemed to have quite the same knack for it. “Um- I. Can you turn around?” Moving things along, the question made her hesitate long enough for her to explain. “I need to do your back, too.”
“Right, of course,” he stammered, twisting for her to be able to reach over. Her body pressed into his. Carefully repeating the process, she was unable to stop herself from admiring the sculpted back. Her fingers were absentmindedly gliding along his spine. He resists the urge to let her fingers walk along his ribs. She was likely already making him suspicious.
Pushing herself off the bed, she announced, “All done!" She needed a moment to compose herself as she replaced the jar on her bedside table. “I suggest you take a nap. Let it do its work.”
It would give her a little time to work through all the thoughts and feelings she had surrounding having him in her bed. She moved away to sit down on her trunk, giving him the space to get some rest, when his hand caught her wrist. Making her heart sputter. Letting herself be pulled into him. “Will you be here when I wake up?”
'Damn you, Potter!' She wanted to curse, but she did not trust her voice to be even. Just a moment and a very few breaths to compose herself were all she needed. So, in response, Lily leaned down and pressed a kiss on his forehead. She felt the fever burn through him. All he could do now was rest, and she would let him.
“Sweet dreams, James," she told him, offering a smile that he would not see as his eyes drooped closed.

Toothbrushes and Winged Eyeliner
Pairing: Sirius Black x fem! reader.
Summary: You get into some trouble at a new years party.
Word count: 2.1K
Warning: non con touching/harassment
I feel like I never write happy/fluffy scenarios
You should have listened to Sirius.
It’s the only thought running through your drink addled mind as you stumble through the house, New Years party still in full swing. You struggle to sweep the room with blurred vision for any sign of your boyfriend. Your friends. Just anyone familiar in any way, shape or form. But even if they were right in front of your eyes you fear you wouldn’t notice. Not with your head swinging the way it was. Throat burning with bile. Hands shaking as they fight to keep the rip in your dress shut. It had been your favorite before tonight.
Sirius had told you to stay close to Lily after you’d repeatedly shewed him away, thoroughly annoyed with his coddling. Warned you not to drink too much. Commanded you to find him if even the slightest thing went awry.
You hadn’t stayed with Lily. You drank entirely too much and now you can’t make out his head of pitch waves amongst the sea of boisterous young adults. With every step you are jostled by another sweaty body. Seconds away from just flopping down to the sticky ground and just letting yourself be trampled.
You would try to call him but you dropped your phone upstairs when you fled and don’t have the gall in you to turn back for it. So, you press on. Hoping to find a quiet corner to plaster yourself into. For unfamiliar hands to stop grazing you.
The quiet finds you first however. In the form of a tall, scarred boy with kind eyes sparkling behind a pair of skewed number shades. Remus' strong grip steadies you on your feet where you bump smack into him, teetering on legs like jelly.
“There you are! We’ve been searching for ages! It’s time to head out!”
He’s grinning ear to ear. A smear of pink lipstick glossy against his appled cheeks. You’re so relieved to see him, to see anyone you love really, that you sink into his chest without warning. Pressing your warm and makeup-stained face into the fat of him, hoping it muffles your panicked cries.
Remus is taken aback, a yelp of surprise leaving his lips. Not knowing you to be one for much affection and especially not one for tears. Which he can hear perfectly well despite the blaring music. On instinct he wraps his arms around you, rubbing his palm over the back of your head to ease whatever aches you so. His own on the swivel in search.
Where was Lily? She was your best friend. She'd know what was wrong. Or better yet where was Sirius. He’d want to be the first alerted if you were in distress. But the only person he manages to spot is James, sidestepping his way to you two with his eyebrows raised.
“What’s going on?”
Remus is at a loss for words “I don’t know I found her like this.”
“Sweets?” James bends his knees in an attempt to look at your face but you only nestle further into Remus. He shrugs “Maybe it’s just the drunk blues?”
Remus shakes his head. They’ve both seen you drunk plenty of times. You were the sleepy sort. “Her dress is torn.”
James’ attention darts to your outfit, stunned he hadn’t noticed such a large tear in the first place. The material of the flowy skirt is split from the hem all the way up your thigh, barely covering your underwear. He immediately removes his jacket and holds it against your behind. You’re so glued to Remus he can’t manage even a hand between you two to secure it. “let’s go to the car”
The boys wrangle you outside and to the car with little hassle. It’s only when they try to get you inside that an issue arises. You still refuse to let go of Remus. He has to scooch himself backwards and allow you to sprawl across his lap to get you settled. You aren’t sure how much time passes between the time James runs back off to get the others and someone yanking the backseat door open. Having been enraptured in the reassuring words Remus throws at you while he absentmindedly plays with your hair.
“What’s happened?” the beams from the streetlight flooding into the dark space burns your eyes. A gruff voice making you cringe.
Remus sets the person with a frown, rubbing your back harder “She won’t stop crying.”
A new pair of hands find you now, cold and clammy. You don’t think before scuttling away from them “Lovie it’s me,” and when you don’t turn, he tacks on “It’s Siri.” You know who it is all too well and that’s exactly why you all but fuse yourself with Remus, too ashamed to face your boyfriend. It was your own stubbornness that had gotten you into this situation. You don’t deserve the comfort of his rings scratching along your skin.
You don’t see it but Sirius flinches as if he’s been struck, your reaction sending a stinging pain radiating across his chest. He reaches out again in an attempt to pry you away from his friend, transfer you into his own hold to figure out why you were suddenly acting so strange. You’d been fine the last time he’d secretly checked in on you and Lily. Giggling away in the kitchen as the two of you mixed experimental drinks and snacked on pretzels. Even if you wouldn’t come to him, no qualms with you being content in Remus’ arms, he would be put at ease if he could just see your face for a second. So, he could know what he should be doing right now. If you’d damaged your favorite dress in a silly drunken accident or if he needed to be hunting someone down to apologize.
“Should I?” Remus has stopped rubbing your spine, instead holding his palms adrift, pointing between your shivering form and Sirius.
Sirius casts one more look at you before standing “No no, sit with her until we get home.”
The car ride to your apartment is completely silent. Lily stays in the back with you and Remus. She tries and fails to get you to talk.
You allow your thoughts to wander and when you finally snap back you find yourself slouched on the toilet lid in the bathroom, Sirius knelt between your legs grasping your hands in his own. He’d gotten Remus to drag you inside and after two hours of coaxing you'd released the boy and allowed him to go home. Sirius had gotten a glass of water into you, changed your clothes, brushed your teeth and wiped your puffy face all to the tune of your occasional sniffle.
He calls your name gently until your eyes find and focus on him. “I need you to talk to me please,” And suddenly you feel sick to your stomach. These dramatics are unlike you. Nothing serious happened, your mind keeps chanting, yet a fresh wave of tears surfaces anyway.
Sirius does not allow you to drift back into your head. His grip on your hands tightens almost painfully so. He brings them to his lips and peppers them with chaste kisses, gaze darting around in search of something. “How many toothbrushes are in the holder?”
You don’t answer and he asks again, slower.
The tooth brush holder was a gift you’d gotten Sirius when you’d asked him to move in together. A wonky lopsided ceramic thing you’d made in a pottery class. Sometimes you still felt embarrassed about it and even attempted to swap it out for a store bought one but Sirius had protested fiercely. Two toothbrushes rest in its clutches.
“Two.”
He beams, rewarding you with a firm rub on the thigh “What about this huh? Who gave you this?” He spins the ring on your finger.
A thin band made of jade and no other adornment. You’d always preferred simpler jewelry. Sirius had given it to you before you’d even started dating. Back when you were just friends yet anywhere you went someone commented on how cute of a couple you were.
You smile at the memory “You.”
“Who did my makeup?”
You had, right in this bathroom in this very spot. Standing between his legs with your hand pressed into the side of his pale face, angling it upwards for you. Scolding him playfully to keep his eyes open while you applied liner to his water line and to keep them shut for a perfect wing  “Me.”
He asks you one final question “And who all is sitting in this bathroom?”
You answer immediately “You and me.”
“That's right,” Sirius nods. You’ve calmed enough to truly look at him now. The worried tension drowning his beautiful features as he stares at you “just you and me, ok? You can talk to me.”
Of course you could. You know that. Sirius would never judge you. He would never blame you for what happened. You swallow and tell him “I should have listened to you.”
It was somewhat of known fact that Peter Pettigrew had a crush on you all throughout your school years. Even after graduation and you and Sirius officially getting together, his flirtatious jokes and glances never ceased. It didn’t really bother you though, so you never felt the need to do much about it. What was so wrong about having a tiny crush? The boys play flirted with each other all the time. Peter was a casual friend, and if you asked him to cut it out he immediately would without complaint. At some point during the party he’d invited himself to hang out with you and Lily. Telling jokes, drinking, dancing and sticking especially close to you. After a while it was time to finally break the seal. The downstairs toilet had a long line so you’d wandered away to look for one upstairs. Peter, drunk off his ass really, had followed you upstairs and got a bit handsy after cornering you in a bedroom.
You try to look away from Sirius, shame once again worming its way into your head. He purposefully grabs hold of your face. Softly turning it so you met his eyes again. “Can I ask how far? You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to but I would be thankful if you told me.”
“Not far, he just grabbed my arms and tried to kiss me but I managed to shove him off, lost my balance, he snagged my dress to try stop me from tripping over and It ended up ripping.”
Sirius grows very quiet. You slam your eyes shut so you don't have to see the disappointment cloud his gaze. “I feel sick” you groan, bending forward to press your forehead to his shoulder.  He bristles.
“I'm sorry.”
“for what?”
His fingers knot into your sleepshirt “I knew you were drinking, I should have kept a closer eye on you.”
“I'm an adult Sirius, nobody should have to babysit me. I don’t know why I’m acting this way anyway. It's no big deal. We were both drunk.”  Come morning Peter will probably be blowing up your phone with apologies.
“That’s not an excuse my love, he put his hands on you without your consent. Drunk or not that’s not ok and you have a right to be upset about it.” You nod your head, burrowing further into Sirius' warmth, but he’s not satisfied.
He pulls you back up gently by the hair. “Do you understand that?”
If you’d just shut down Peter with more gumption behind your words the first few times he got flirty, then maybe he wouldn’t have felt he had a genuine opening. That's nonsense though. After a nice cup of tea and a long nap your brain will fully acknowledge that.
“Yeah, I'm sorry for pushing you away earlier. I was just…ashamed.”
“You have nothing to ashamed of. What happened was beyond your control ok? You don’t have to be scared to tell me things like this.” He allows you to put your head back down, rubbing your back in a steady rhythm that starts to lull you to sleep.
“What do you want to do?” He knows he should wait till morning to ask. When you've settled and made your peace. But a slow, worming anger muddles his judgment. Whatever you wanted to do about the situation he’d oblige. Although any idea of retribution he can personally envision would end with you having to pay bail. What a way to bring in the new year.
“Um, Can I think about it for a little longer?” Later, when your head wasn’t throbbing.
“Of course. Whenever you’re ready.”
The two of you depart from the bathroom hand in hand, shuffling off to get that cup of tea and to bed. It’s only after you're snuggled away with your head on Sirius' stomach listening to it gurgle, that you suddenly remember something.
“I left my phone at the party.”

*James singing at a party*
Regulus: He's singing again.
Pandora *supportively* : Great observation my love.
Regulus *banging his head on the table*: Why. The. Fuck. Is he singing again?
Evan *to Barty*: He's so dramatic when he's in love
Regulus *glaring*: I'm not in love. Not when he's singing to her.
Pandora: Reg, darling, I don't think he is.
Regulus: Of course he is.
Evan *smirking*: Actually he's looking at you.
Regulus: So? He's only got eyes for her.
Barty: Regulus he's literally kneeling on our table singing at you.
Regulus: It's all for her!
James: *singing at Regulus and literally kissing him*
Regulus *sighs* : I wish he'd love me like he loves Lily.
The slytherins (and pandora) : *completely giving up*

from this post, @sebbianas
November 1st 1981
Remus woke up in Grimmauld place, the pillow next to him cold, his world broken. He was too late. James. Dead. Lilly. Dead. Peter. Dead. And Sirius. Sirius…
There was still a war to be fought, but Remus couldn't see the point of getting out of bed. Voldemort could take him right there.  James. Dead. Protecting them as he always did. Lilly. Dead. For the love of her son. Peter. Dead. Poor collateral damage, wrong place wrong time. Sirius.  Poor Harry who Dumbledore whisked away to who knows where. James. Dead. Lily. Dead. Pe- He was interrupted by an owl coming through his window. It brought a note from Dumbledore. Asking him away on a task for the order. Fuck that. Fuck Dumbledore. Wanting me to- to… I already did this. It was the same note from yesterday. Remus thought this was some joke. Who would-
He got up to find out. The place was clean, save for the maps and papers and order shit strewn everywhere. There was no pile of empty bottles he left on the kitchen floor last night. He was in clean clothes. And there were children tp-ing houses for halloween outside.
He couldn't help the small bit of hope he felt. It was already mid-day but. If this was really October 31st all over again. He could… He grabbed his wand, some floo powder, and headed straight to Godric's Hollow. He could stop Sirius.
“Oh! Remus! We weren't expecting you, how nice!” Lilly was holding a startled Harry when Remus stepped out of their fireplace. James was out of the room. Answering the front door he thought.  “He’s here.”  Lily's face dropped at his grave tone. “What?”  “Look, Yesterday was Halloween and- and- but then today I woke up, and it was still halloween again, so-” “Remus please, slow down I’m not sure I understand?” “I guess how I got here isn’t as important, the thing is-” He couldn't bring himself to say it. “It's Sirius. He’s, he’s working for Voldemort. And tonight, you died.”  Lily looked taken aback. “Sirius? Are you sure? He would never do that to James. He would never do that.”
They were interrupted by an explosion from outside. That was Sirius’ voice. That was Peter. A loud knock sounded at the front door. Lily looked up at Remus. Then down, to James' wand on the couch beside her. A flash of green, and a thud. There was nothing left but to grab Lilys hand and run upstairs. It was basically pointless, there wasn't anywhere for them to go. He stood blocking the door to Harry's nursery, watching Voldemort's figure saunter slowly towards them. A silent spell knocked Remus to the other side of the room. “I only want the boy.”  “Not my son. Please. Take me.” She pleaded. She fell limp.  Voldemort stepped over her body, to Harry and Remus.  “You-” The world went black.
October 31st 1981 for the third time
Remus woke up in Grimmauld place again.
Empty bed. Clean apartment. Owl at the window. Let's do this again.
He took the floo network back to James place. He didn't have time to explain. He saw James' wand on the couch. I’m so sorry Prongs. But it's what you would have done. Remus grabbed Lilly and Harry and apparated a couple houses down. They could see a flash and then smoke from where they were.  “Remus! What-” “Lilly, listen, it's Sirius and Voldemort they-'' Another green flash. “I need to get you and Harry out of here.” He told her to apparate to Grimmauld place, and he’d follow. He watched her disappear, and turned to look back at where Peter and James would be lying lifeless. Instead he came face to face with Voldemort. He perked his nose as if smelling him.  “The werewolf. Tell me, where is the child?” Remus just turned his chin up and stared.  “Tell. me?” Remus felt a bubbling sensation in his throat. His mind went numb, and he heard his address fall senselessly out of his mouth. He fell to the ground, and the world went black.
October 31st 1981 take four
Remus woke up, and immediately thought: James. He ran out of their fireplace, grabbing James wand and towards the front door. Oh how comforting it was just to see James standing there, bright and slightly disheveled as he always was. Remus pushed him over before he could open the door.  “Moony! Wh-” The explosion outside.  “It’s him.” He pushed James' wand into his hand.  “Him- Wha- Take Lilly and go.”  “Tried that, we need to fight him. Right here.”  James looked a little confused, but he never turned down a fight. He gave a firm nod, and the two of them stepped outside.
The block was a ruin, fires, broken buildings, people… And Voldemort, standing there.  Remus and James started firing curses, but he just deflected them as if they were nothing. They were yelling, taking a step closer with each arm wave and spell. “Make this easier for yourselves. Just let me see the boy.”  James would rather die. And Remus would do whatever to stand by his side. Eventually Voldemort got tired of them pestering him, and Remus watched James fall beside him. Then he too crumpled to the ground as everything went black.
October 31st 1981 part 74
It's been too long. Remus has watched James, and Lily die too many times. He has died too many times. He didn’t want to do it again. But he was getting a second chance (again) and he would use it.  He figured his last option was what he's been avoiding this whole time. He would go to the source. And he would face Sirius.
He dragged himself out of bed, took one last look at the empty pillow next to him and headed to Godric's hollow.  He marched straight through the Potter’s house, intending to confront Sirius before his first attack. He kept a steady pace, but inside he was panicking at the thought of fighting Pads. He spotted him around the corner of someone's house.  “Mr. Black!”  Sirius looked up startled, and made to pull Remus into the alley with him. “Moons! I’ve made a terrible mistake.”  “Don’t “moons” me! And yes you have. How could you?” Remus pulled into a dueling pose. It hurt too much and he couldn't scold Sirius anymore. “You betrayed us “loyal” Black.”  He wanted to hurt him. No hex was bad enough. He could've used an illegal curse. But at the same time he couldn't. Not a bone in his broken body would allow him to hurt Padfoot.  “Moony. It wasn’t me. We switched. Peter was the secret keeper. The little rat is working for them.”  They both stood there, splotchy vision and voices thick from tears. Remus with his wand raised, cornering Sirius looking like a puppy against the wall.  “Look.”
They both peeked around the corner to watch Peter knocking on the door to James and Lily's house. James opened the door, a smile on his face at his friend. Till Voldemort appeared. James reached for his wand, but Remus knew it was back on the couch with Lily and Harry. It wouldn't stop their headstrong friend. He prepared to fight but fell to the ground with a flash of green. Voldemort stepped inside and not long afterwards they could hear Lily's scream with another green flash.
Sirius stepped forward and the block exploded. Through the fire Remus watched Peter cut his hand and transform into a rat, leaving Sirius in the middle of the block looking like a mad man.
James and Lily were dead. Baby Harry was upstairs alone and wailing. Peter would be declared dead. And Sirius would be held responsible. Remus watched it all happen, and now he understood. He couldn't stop Sirius because he didn't have to. He turned his wand on himself.
October 31st 1981 for the 75th time
Remus woke up in Grimmauld place like he’d intended. He only had to save one person tonight.
He made it to the Potters' place. He said hi to Lily and James. Told them he was leaving for an Order task and just needed to pass through. It broke his heart, but he hugged them goodbye knowing it would be their last. Their fate was sealed. Holding back tears he made it outside and hid out where he saw Peter last night. He waited there till the block exploded. He watched Peter back away from the Potters door. But before he could transform, Remus stepped forward and called him out. He looked over with that stupid scared expression of his.  “Petrificus totalus!” Peter fell over and Remus stepped above his head, looking down his nose simply disappointed.  He didn't say anything, just stepped over him and walked defeated to where Padfoot was.  “C’mon Pads. Aurors will be here soon.” He grabbed Sirius hand and the two of them started their way back home.
Their world was broken. His best friends were dead. Peter would be convicted, and they would testify against him. Remus stared at Sirius’ black hair on the pillow beside him. The war was not quite over, but he had his Padfoot, and they were safe.
and they adopted Harry and lived happily ever after the end 🥰
hope this is what you were thinking op <3
