When I was a teenager and still on Neopets I was part of a pretty big Star Trek guild and eventually became part of its council, with the solemn duty of creating weekly polls. Well one day I created the poll "Which would win in a fight? Borg Cube or Death Star?". Naturally, since this was a Star Trek guild, the answer was overwhelmingly "Borg Cube", but someone did have the rationality to point out we were biased.

So I look up a pretty prominent Star Wars guild and message one of their council and ask them to poll the same question and get back to me in a week. They do, and naturally the fuckin geeks said "Death Star".

So then I look up a Stargate guild and messaged the lead council member, saying the same thing, and they get back to me almost immediately saying that the Death Star would immediately one-shot a Borg Cube but they would never be able to do it again to another Cube. And I took that wisdom back to my guild and we were mollified, and for one moment the Nerd World was peaceful.

going from the reddit star wars fandom to the tumblr star wars fandom is giving me insane whiplash. the upside is that people aren’t bitching about every single imperfect detail in the entire franchise, but the downside is that i’ve seen more fanart of obi wan and commander cody tenderly knowing each other than i have ever wanted to in my life in the last three hours and it has probably fundamentally altered the way i interact with the entire franchise

So now I’ve fallen back into Star Wars for the time being, I want to shout out the guys over at sw5e.com for reskinning Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition to work as a Star Wars RPG, and share a little party I put together there, circa beginning of the Empire Era.

Avner Gwineth: Human Consular. Grew up on starships and is now making a living as a travelling musician. He’s Force Sensitive, which is Bad when Inquisitors are running around hunting Jedi and other Force Sensitives. He may not have grown up as a Jedi, but he supposes if the Empire won’t differentiate between him and them, he may as well become one now and cause Problems (like finding and securing Jedi artifacts and keeping the teachings and culture of the Jedi alive as long as he can). 

Fox: Human Fighter. Travels around posing as a Mandalorian known as “Wais,” but is a Clone Trooper defector. He served as the right hand under a Jedi General in the Clone Wars, and shot her under Order 66. She Force-pushed him and broke the chip and woke him up, so he knows first hand the horrors of the Empire (his chip isn’t completely broken though, which scares him).

Saasha Allast: Togruta Scholar/Operative. Despite the intense bond Togrutans have with their community, Saasha believed that the best way to help her people was to become the best doctor she could, and that meant travelling to Coruscant to attend the University there. Unfortunately, during her schooling the Republic fell apart and was replaced with the Human-supremecist Empire, so she fled before she could be expelled or worse. During her flight, she rescued and pack-bonded with a little droid, who’s the next party member. 

C0-M5 “Coms”: Droid Class II Engineer. The best character I have ever made and the one I want to play the most. He was a little maintenance droid working a holonet broadcast station who decided he didn’t like the kind of stuff he was hearing from Empire broadcasts and hijacked the signal to dispute this. This, naturally, got him ordered for destruction from which Saasha saved him. He pretends he’s always giving a holonet broadcast and likes to record people around him, calling it “people watching.” Sasha’s been trying to break him of this, but no luck so far. Now he’s not in immediate danger, joining the nascent Rebellion is his idea of “fun,” though he does like the idea of getting to combat the Empire’s propaganda with a bit of his own. He’s also been a bit desensitized to violence after running a broadcast frequency during the Clone Wars, so he can have some… odd ways of reacting to it. But he wants people to be free and be themselves, and he wants to be seen as a being like any other rather than some day’s scrap metal and will fight for those rights however he can.
