Hello, everyone. I´m just returning from summer vacation, and getting ready to return to routine. Right now, i´m taking a class that i failed last year, and so far i have to go only once a week for the first couple of weeks. How´s it going everyone?
Day 6: Are you a tea person or a coffee person? Or neither?
It depends of the day, i like both, but there are days that i drink one more than the other. But if i have to choose, i´m a coffee person.

any suggestions on how reduce screen time and stop wasting time on social media?
a hard one (who doesnt spend a little bit too much in their phones) but a few ideas to try out
A widget on your phone about how much screen time you had. A lot of phones come with this option, it lets you know how much time you spend entirently on your phone and usually, the top 3 most used apps of the day. There is nothing that makes one feel more guilty than going to watch tiktok and next to the app there is widget that tells you you already spend 2hours and 30 minutes on it that day.
Social media feeds are made to be addictive, that's why you open the app to see a notification and end up spending 3 hours on it. If you think something like "I'm just going to see if my crush posted a story" or "I'll see how my lastest post did and then i'll do the homework" DONT. You'll open the app with the intention of only 5 minutes and we all know it isnt going to be 5 minutes.
Set alarms. Set a "goal" like, only using it for 20 minutes. Set the alarm in your phone and when it sounds, close the app.
Try other activities. We mostly go to our phones because we are bored. Go on a walk, clean you room, cook cookies, read a book, draw, talk to someone irl. Look for alternatives. Some of them will be difficult at start (social media is known for ruining attention span and things like reading requiere that), do it gradually.

its crazy how coming into clinical social work, i really just thought I was up against systems and cycles of trauma....but it turns out i'm up against those two things AND other therapists. the amount of work spent correcting mistakes from other clinicians--whether with clients or during the classroom--is fucking crazy.
i totally get we're all on different journeys in terms of being clinicians. but it is insane finding out day after day of therapists and clinicians saying the worst things ever to clients. demeaning them, telling them "it's all in their head", the racism and the ableism and harm that is caused. like no fucking wonder people are afraid to seek therapy (on top of the accessibility issues). while i'm a little biased and think that at the very least clinical social work training focuses on viewing people within their environments (so not engaging in the medical/individualist models of practice that a lot of counseling programs focus on), that doesn't mean it gives every person the skills to be an effective therapist. i'm also not saying i'm the best clinician ever--I'm literally in training--but boy! it is jarring seeing how some of my peers interact in class and wondering...is that how you are with your clients??
my social work program at the very least also has a focus on anti-racism, but i know students from other programs and some of them don't even mention racism AT ALL and focus entirely on diagnosing people "correctly", or finding the perfect form of therapy to use on a client. but man, what none of these programs teach are basic life skills. wanting to be a clinician isn't enough, especially considering that an inhumane amount of people in my program are 1. so nervous about making mistakes that they lose scope of their practice 2. have so much internalized racism/white guilt to work thru 3. or they have absolutely no listening skills.
again, im not trying to make it seem like I am the number 1 clinician in the world ever. I don't even have a psych background or bachelor's in social work. my reasons for going into social work are quite selfish (I want a job that is very flexible, easily transferable, and can be done in different contexts), and the helping people part is just a plus. i'm just saying it's very jarring seeing other people in training and realizing they too are working with clients. i have conversation after conversation about these issues with other BIPOC/queer/marginalized clinicians, so I know i'm not the only person worried about some of the people that will be out of this program in a few years practicing on their own or with vulnerable populations.

Just thinking about how I often avoid saying I'm afab in online spaces (where people can't automatically "tell" from looking at me like they can in person) because I'm nb and find the stereotype of all nb people being afab or just "women-lite" so horribly uncomfortable that I'm almost ashamed at times of being afab even though it shapes my identity and experiences

y'know what's really annoying? after a few days of social media detox, without a lot of time/energy for in-person socialization, eventually my brain craves what little social interaction it gets from social media. or maybe i'm just mistaking it for dopamine. who knows. and just bc it's social media, eventually what was a tool to keep me accountable and keep me from getting *too* lonely, becomes a source of procrastination and unhealthy comparison and ugh it's a double-edged sword, i freaking hate it.
anyway, i guess i'm back.
updates will be whenever i feel like it (possibly sporadic as i'm *trying* to get my shit together through non-social-media accountability measures) bc i stopped counting days on 100dop++ bc it was getting annoying to keep track.
true to my studying hermit lifestyle, nothing much of note happened since i've been away. still chugging along, reviewing notes/R from stats course (i have so many thoughts about self-studying R and codecademy vs other resources 😒 perhaps i'll make a post when i have time...) and catching up on both psyc and pharmacology while trying not to fall behind on philosophy. (i made good progress on psyc over the weekend, so i'm not super behind anymore, which is good. i expect to be able to finish catching up on everything by tmr.)

How do you deal with loneliness that comes after u kick toxic people out of your life? I have no one to talk to, no one to text and its summer break so its pretty much impossible to make new friends (I'm in college). How do I deal with having no one to talk to? Having no one's company? I feel so alone and uninteresting.
Hi love!
I would use this time to intern, get a summer job (coworkers can be great to socialize with, and they can also invite you to events where you can meet new people), develop a new skill or hobby, take a course on a topic/language/profession you're interested in, or focus on refining your core habits/personal brand (health, wellness,, & fitness routine, personal style/beauty routine, getting your room organized, etc.).
Also, take advantage of online spaces (like our community here) in subjects you're interested in. Reach out to potential online friends and engage in community conversations. Of course, IRL connections are superior, but some level of social connection is considerably better than none at all.
