🎀 My That Girl Exam Success Checklist 💯

it's the day of (or before) your exam!! a gazillion thoughts may be running through your mind: should i review all my notes and flashcards one more time?? set my alarm super early to be sure to make it on time or set it super late so that i get as much sleep as possible?? let's prepare everything step by step calmly and together ☺️

The Night Before

pack your bag with everything you need — school ID, pens/pencils, erasers, rulers, calculators, extras of everything!!, brain food like nuts/chocolate, lunch, full water bottle, etc.

pick out a cute but comfy outfit — the goal is to feel as confident and laser-focused as possible!

don't skimp on your night routine — cramming does not take priority over a good night's sleep before an important day, so take care of your mind and body and trust them to take care of you too

skim the highlights/summaries/key flashcards just before bed — when you sleep, your mind is not idle! it's reorganizing and filing everything away neatly to be retrieved when you wake up, so do yourself a favor and take advantage of your mind's natural abilities!

double check your alarm — but more important than this is to go to sleep at a reasonable time that you can expect yourself to feel well-rested by the time you need to wake up, so whether you need 7, 8, 10 or more hours of sleep, go get it!! right now!! come back to this post in the morning to complete the rest of the checklist~

The Morning Of

eat breakfast(!!) — you can't think on an empty stomach!!

take your vitamins

drink water

stretch!! — get your blood flowing where it needs to go and get your energy levels up!! 💪

if you can, try not to consume anything else outside of your review materials before the exam that might confuse or preoccupy you! — sometimes it's unavoidable if it's part of your job or your other courses, so just take a quiet moment to bring your mind back to the material from time to time if necessary!

get to your exam location as early as possible you can chill and review~ (same idea as the night before, summaries, highlights, flashcards, don't get too bogged down by the details and confuse yourself at this point!)

Exam Time

arrange your desk neatly and comfortably so you can focus and find everything you need when you need it

deep breaths

one question at a time

even if it seems like you don't know or remember anything, the information will come back to you when you need it

i'm considering taking a philosophy course at some point in my degree instead of more psych. if you've taken philosophy before, what did you enjoy most/least about studying it? 🤔

day 2/30 days of sight reading

well that escalated quickly... i'm not used to baroque music structure at all - melody switches to the left hand at bar 7 and whenever i wanna ornament a note (even if in the left hand), my brain automatically thinks right hand AND THEN in bar 9 (too soon imo 😭) the melody starts switching between left and right and left and right and my brain has to keep switching modes and there's like, different phrasings going on in each hand (which can ALSO be confusing to figure out when there's no phrase lines) and do you feel my confusion? 😂 it's pretty tho, once i figure out how to coordinate my hands 👐 (i'm not there yet tho XD there's soooooo many levels of coordinated and i'm at level 1 XD)

14.01.2023

Finished the first week of Winter term! I have been super super productive this week, and I know this isn't going to last so I'm trying to do as much as possible to lighten my load for the future.

Before classes started, I went to the mall with my friends and got some useful stuff and some cute clothes. I also went to my friend's place that day cuz he made biryani, and it was really good.

My classes are pretty great! We're learning really cool stuff, and I really enjoy the level of rigour we're going into. I am getting used to the type and difficulty of content we're doing now, and this term definitely feels easier than the last.

I'm also getting into some more activities. I went to a couple of clubs meetings, and I'm getting up to a bunch of cool stuff with my friends, before things start getting really busy. I was recently elected as an exec in the Pure Math Club! I am in charge of promoting events and recruiting new members. It's really cool because we are getting a lot of high school tours this term, and they want me to be recruiting people as potential members before they even come to our uni. I actually decided this club was really cool and I wanted to join it before I started attending here, so I think I would to a good job convincing others to do that too.

day 9 of 30 // tired but still pretty 🙈💕

and most importantly, still motivated to see this challenge through! ☺️ i'm starting to feel pressured to progress right away, so i made a list of small wins that tie back to my some of my most ambitious goals:

🥰 no more back pain when i lie down to sleep at the end of the day

🙊 gained some auditory familiarity with Japanese

🙊 gained some grammar/spelling familiarity in Korean

🙊 improved retention of Chinese characters

❤️ it's becoming automatic to completely "tune in" when someone is speaking to/around me

🧘🏻‍♀️ my best life is lived in this world, not some other one i imagine. in this best life, i am learning how to be independent and self-sufficient as an aspiring bioinformatician working towards my BSc in life sciences. a worthy work in progress, even if the road is messy. i may be single and sooo not ready to mingle (somehow this is a salient thought recently...perhaps it's because it's february), but whatever i go through, i don't go through it alone, even if it may feel like it.

No pretty desk picture today! But I wanted to share a few pics from my study abroad in China a few years ago. Shanghai is definitely my favourite city, do you guys have any favourite places?

I've also started using Notion! Any advice from seasoned users welcome！

Completed today:

Attended the two classes I had today.

Finished and submitted an assignment.

Did two standing yoga videos.

Group project call for a presentation that I have next week.

Outlining which upcoming assignments are due when.

Some admin.

To do:

Finish reading an article for an policy analysis assignment.

Another group project call for my policy analysis class.

If I have time, I'll also do some prelim outline sketching for my econ assignment and plan my revision schedule for my econ final next week!!

I've also been trying to do more habitual self-care and really prioritise my mind!
