WHY DON’T YOU GIVE ME A SMILE? (ACT 1)
YANDERE! BATFAM x JINX (ARCANE/LEAGUE)-ESQUE! READER
A lil’ platonic yanderes harley and joker in the mix too hehe
gender neutral reader.
cw/tw: mentally ill reader. reader has schizophrenia. reader has a massive fear of abandonment. harley and joker only feed to that. a r s o n among other crimes. gaslighting. manipulation. implied r*pe (by reader im so sorry you guys) reader is interested in all genders.
summary: meet jinx, gotham’s loudest, most explosive villain. no one knows who they really are, or if jinx is really even their name. but one thing’s for sure — they’ve got a lot of people chasing after them and their reasons aren’t so noble.
status: unedited
Tumblr media
Considering Jinx was inspired by Harley Quinn. You’re probably her protégé. Her darling little child with Joker.
YOUR ORIGINS:
She saw you in the aftermath of the explosion. Cold and alone. Fire roaring behind you despite the heavens pouring its heart out, as if it was desperately trying to wash your tears and pain away.
She saw your bruises and a girl a little older than you walk away.
Her heart ached for you. No child deserved to be put in that kind of position, so she stepped in and made herself known.
“ I . . . I only wanted to help . . . Don’t leave me . . . Don’t . . .
You muttered.
Joker, who came here to marvel at the chaos such an explosion would present smiles maniacally.
You. You were the one that did this.
This beautiful wreckage and an equally beautiful child.
You were practically begging to be moulded into a weapon.
You charged at them both as they got closer, and while Harley was ready to defend her man - even hurt you if she has to - they did not expect what came next.
You just, held unto Joker’s right leg.
“ She’s not my sister . . . No . . . if she was she wouldn’t leave me . . . “
You were far too emotional for his liking. But nonetheless. A boon can always be found in a curse. That is, your desire for revenge.
He takes one look at Harley before picking your small body into his arms.
“ Who cares about fools like them, little one? They don’t matter in the grand scheme of things.”
His smile never stopped widening, yet even as a kid you never saw it as creepy or unnerving. In fact, it only reminded you of the smiles you used to draw on your nail bombs.
“All we ever truly have is ourselves. “
“So, smile. Don’t let your tears bring you down.”
Moulding you into the perfect weapon was easy.
Having a psychiatrist as a partner did help a lot in your development.
All it took was a few reminders of that fateful day before you began obediently following their rules and instructions.
You were a genius and since Harley kept protesting against it. You weren’t baptized into a vat of acid like the couple was.
Now, Harley and Joker are the worst possible parents you can ask for. So unlike Arcane’s Jinx. You are way way more unhinged. Not to mention, horny and materialistic.
As you grew up, you began to take interest in intentionally hurting people just for the sake of it. Stealing things was just a normal Tuesday for you. Being successful in your endeavors for once, and having bigger stacks of cash felt exhilarating.
The women and men were amazing. Your pseudo parents being who they were, didn’t really care if you were a sexual deviant or a pervert. When your hormones started kicking in they let you do whatever you want. Even giving you some of the people he held hostage as a toy to play with. If you have the capability of getting someone pregnant/or getting pregnant yourself they wouldn’t really care about the baby but you knew them well enough to know they’d use the kid as a way to manipulate you so you were careful in that aspect anyhow.
Harley noticed that when laying with women you’d often call out your sister’s name or call them sis by itself.
Sick. Disgusting. Is what a normal mother would think after finding out such a fact.
But to her you were just growing up so quickly. She had convinced Joker to go ahead and kill your sibling a long time ago behind your back and was growing anxious with the thought of you hating her and ruining this happy family dynamic (she had in her head)!
So she starts bringing you to more heists in disguise. Always keeping a close eye on you so that if any of those stupid heroes and vigilantes get any close, and you too far. She’d know as soon as possible.
It’s safe to say you grew up pretty spoiled, but even then you were hungry for more.
You see, even if they (Harley and Joker) weren’t careful with their “parenting” approach. They were careful with keeping you hidden from the Dark Knight himself.
Not that they were scared you’d get hurt. They could always nurse you back up again. Harley actually enjoyed the times you’d gotten in the cross fire. More time to take care of you in her arms.
They were mostly scared of the Dark Knight stealing you. Afraid that he’ll take you away and turn you into a goody-two-shoes they wouldn’t recognize anymore.
So as much as you were more involved it still felt like they were babying you.
It was your situation with you family all over again
But this time, this time you’ll show them…
You weren’t weak. And it’ll do them good to remember that.
YOUR RIVALRIES:
You made your debut at around the time Tim was still Robin.
You were his very own Joker. A menace deal with. A person that only cared for the thrill that came with hurting and killing masses.
You were terrible. Evil. A demon he had to exorcise from this world.
A demon he fell hopelessly in love with.
He didn’t know how his feelings came to be. It may have been the amount of stress and pressure he was facing coupled with having to deal with your ass every damn day whether directly or indirectly. But he found himself yearning to see you at times. Getting warm when he thought of you. He felt solace knowing that no matter how many times he’d attempt to tear you down completely, you’d still come back to face him once again.
He was so guilty of his feelings. How could he fall for someone as heinous as you? You were the worst of the worst. But somehow that made things so much more better.
You were a taboo. A vice he couldn’t have. The thought of entering such a forbidden relationship excited him just cause it was just that — forbidden , a temptation that should always stay like that.
He somehow manages to gain the self control to stay away from you for a while.
But then came Damian and he was set to replaced. Just like that.
“Wow there Timmy Boy. You look like shit.”
“J-Jinx?! Why are you here? How do you know my name?!” He asked as if he didn’t know every single detail about you himself.
“I have to know my little birdie well don’t I?”
“What kind of archnemesis would Jinx be to their little Robin if they didn’t do a lil’ research?” You spoke in a higher, cutesy voice as if you were your handgun that you’ve affectionally named Zapper.
“Right you are Zapper! I would be a terrible rival. That wouldn’t do for a hero as great as Timmy!”
He thought that all his work was all for naught. All the hours he spent trying to prove himself was gone so fast.
But you reminded him of his place in this world. Of his position as a hero. Your rival.
The warmth in your eyes when you looked at him sealed the deal. There was no coming from this. He was yours as you were his.
“Only I can hurt you like this, toots. Don’t forget that.”
Little did you know that Tim took those words to heart and never let anyone else hurt him (and stay alive).
“Big Bat can replace you but you’ll always be the Robin in my heart !” You winked at him, signaling with one of your manicured fingers for him to smile. Which ended up almost scratching your cheeks.
Tim was confused (incredibly flustered, not to mention har—), why were you so kind to him all of a sudden. He knew you were the playful type but you were usually ruthless when it came to battle. You weren’t one to play with food for too long. For you to excuse him, much less help him in such a state.
Who were you and what did you do to his Jinx?
“OW hEy! I swear if you put that there Pow-Pow— I’ll—“ Tim heard you screeching out of view.
Scratch his doubts. Yep, you were definitely still his Jinx.
The Dark Knight knew who you were from the beginning.
He had his suspicions even before you came into the scene. With your knack to tag everything with neon spray-paints.
At first he thought you were a simple thug that Joker and Harley picked up. But the way they were sheltering you made it seem otherwise.
The regret he felt knowing that you were basically a child in their filthy hands and was now far too gone to save was immense.
If only he knew. You wouldn’t be in this situation.
While he was “dead” he found himself looking into you more. About the death of your biological parents and the way your sister abandoned you to Harley and Joker.
He felt pity for your childhood and a sense of kinship. Sure the incident may have been your fault but you were a child. How could you have known your actions would have such terrifying consequences.
If only you knew him when you were younger.
If only.
He was sure you’d be one of the greatest vigilantes alive.
“I knew you were alive.”
You looked down at Batman, staring while both of you were being doused by the rain. Thunder accompanying the sound of conversation.
He takes a defensive stance.
“I’m not going to fight ya, that’s Joker’s thing. And I know he’ll grill my ass if I stole his archnemesis.”
“What a loser!”
“Hey! He took us in. We should be more grateful!”
Bruce looked at you as you talked with a new, rather large, shark shaped gun. He had memorized the names of all your “companions” by now and was oddly excited and slightly unnerved by the new one.
“So, why’d you leave? Was it . . . was it on purpose?”
“No.”
“Then come back.”
He almost dropped all his plans with the way you told him that.
“Tim needs you . . . and your other sons too or whatever.”
“Come with me.”
“You crazy, old bat? Why would I—“
“I know what it feels like to have no family. Harley doesn’t love you. Joker doesn’t love anyone.”
“Do you?”
“I do.”
“Well tough luck man. I don’t give a shit about love.”
You dropped down to his level. A thud resounds, loud enough to cut through the rainfall and thunder.
“Cause love never gave a shit about me.”
“We’ll have to refuse. Just get back to your sons, hero!”
“I’m sorry, perhaps I didn’t make it clear enough—
— I don’t think you have a choice in this matter, [Y/N].”

Jotaro with a Cyber Sleuth s/o: Jolyne
Here we go with the next part! I bet you guys have been yearning for this and I'm very sorry for the wait! Truth be told, I was planning on how I could rearrange the first masterlist a bit. Turning the starter parts for x Readers into a mini index of sorts. Same goes for my actual fanfics.
Another thing is I'll be editing my older fanfics, fix any bad grammar and undo any 'word salads'. Other than that, let's get started. This can be read gender neutral or preferred gender.
Jolyne Cujoh, Jotaro's daughter... You had heard about her from the marine biologist himself after you guys reunited. To think you would be meeting her so suddenly was insane to say the least especially with how it happened.
Iggy had gotten himself settled in Jotaro's place at the moment. He was given a cover story about being a rescue seal and kept under the man's care. Morioh might be a weird place but it's best to have a plan if anyone asked questions.
You and Myotismon were just heading over to the hotel only to have a little girl bump into you. From the picture that your mutual crush showed of his daughter, there was no doubt that this raven haired girl is Jolyne.
There's just one problem, she should be in North America with her mother. Only two possiblities were presented to you, either she's here with her mother or Jolyne ran away. Something you'll ask once you take her back to Jotaro.
It seems the little girl had gotten prior knowledge of you and Myotismon from her father. The story was given when Jolyne had found the group picture taken on the quest to defeat Dio. What she said next was surprisingly to say the least.
"Daddy missed you a whole lot after you and Myo left. He always looked at that special photo before hiding it. Daddy sounded so happy when he told me about you and Myo. Something my mother didn't like..."
It seems Jolyne's mom been completely jealous about how close you were to Jotaro. Listening in as he reminisced before she took the photo and confronted him. You were the driving force of the divorce between them.
Normally you would apologize but from the looks of this situation, Jolyne wasn't very close to her mother. Myotismon thankfully decided to cheer the little girl up. He took a paper from his coat and made an origami butterfly out of it.
It was something he did in his spare time, usually giving his creations to any person who emotionally needed one. Jolyne definitely liked the paper butterfly as butterflies are her favorite animal.
While on your way to Jotaro's hotel room, you decided to treat his daughter. Bought her a few butterfly style accessories, some mochi ice cream and a few books to enjoy Myotismon gave Jolyne piggyback rides alongside teaching her how to make origami.
Overall, she was in a much better mood especially since the little girl tackle hugged her father upon reaching his suite. Jotaro had been relieved that Jolyne ran into you instead of someone dangerous.
Living arrangements did need to be made for the young Joestar whose currently playing with Iggy. The Gomamon kept her busy with the promise of coffee while you, Jotaro and Myotismon talked things out. In the end, Jolyne would be staying with you.
One of your Digimon friends could be her babysitter whenever you had to go on a case. They could protect Jolyne if an enemy Stand User decides to attack. Even pull her into a Digital Space if push comes to shove.
Once every corner was covered, you guys told Jolyne. She took the news very well although her next comment got you and Jotaro. "Hey daddy, when are you going to marry the nice detective?" Poor Jotaro could only hide his growing red face with his hat followed by a 'Yare Yare Daze'. Yare Yare Daze indeed.
And that's it! We've finally gotten to Jolyne! I wanted to write her part first before doing the whole Crusader Reunion. Some of the reason stemming from Stone Ocean getting its anime adaptation and the fact it'll be much easier to write them separate.
Jotaro and Cyber Sleuth reader will be tying the knot next chapter. They've been a bit busy with Stand User shenanigans to properly get there after all. A nice respite will be in order.
Until next time folks, continue to stand proud and I'll see you back in Morioh.

Message in a Bottle
Valentine’s Event: Day Two
Prompt: Jotaro + Ocean
Ao3 Link
Author’s Note: Reader is gender neutral, but they do have an ex-boyfriend. I was super excited to write this one! Y’all know how much I adore this man, so I had a lot of fun thinking up ideas for this prompt.
Tumblr media
Jotaro always found solace in the ocean. After everything that happened back in Egypt, he expected his life would slow down and get easier, but the truth was far from that. His life had only grown more and more hectic as he got older. He didn’t expect the Old Man to rely on him so much, or how busy the Speedwagon Foundation would make him, or how much of a headache it would be to get divorced.
However, despite all of the chaos currently in his orbit, the ocean was a constant. Unlike everything else in his life, the ocean would always be there when he returned.
He’d recently returned to Japan, not only to escape the wrath of his soon to be ex-wife, but to conduct some family business. Morioh was a quaint little town, with only a few things to do, but Jotaro didn’t mind. He wasn’t here to mess around, he was on business. Despite this, the beautiful, rocky beach he passed on his way into town certainly caught his eye.
After a few days in town, Jotaro found himself with some odd hours to spare. With a pack of cigarettes in hand, he found himself strolling down the street after asking the concierge at his hotel for directions to the beach. The walk was quick, but noisy; despite being such a small town, Morioh sure had a lot of hustle and bustle. However, all that noise fell away as Jotaro found himself at the lonely beach. There was not a soul on the sand- just how he liked it.
Lighting up a cigarette, Jotaro put the stick in his mouth as he kicked off the shoes for a little stroll on the sand. In that instant, Jotaro realized how busy he had been as of late. While he certainly was fond of Josuke and his little posse, they’d monopolized a lot of his time. That, along with the heap of work required for The Speedwagon Foundation and his doctorate degree, and he was long overdue for a break.
Warmed by the sand on his toes, Jotaro let out a deep sigh as he slowly made his way down the beach. Taking the occasional drag of his cigarette, he let all of the tightness in his shoulders dissipate with the smoke. The quiet tugging of the waves lulled him into an almost mindless headspace, all of his worries leaving him as he wandered along the shoreline. Admiring the view of the overcast sea, the gentle blue waves curling a few meters away from him, he felt something he very rarely felt- ease.
Almost as if some higher being wanted to cruelly rip him out of his reverie, a strong gust of wind blew through, kicking up the sand as Jotaro’s hat went flying. He desperately went to grab for his cap, but it flew just fast enough to evade his grasp. While this certainly pissed him off, Jotaro couldn’t be bothered to chase after the accessory, so he simply muttered his signature catchphrase as he picked up the pace to pursue it. In a little flurry, it flew through the air before finding its way to the sand, fluttering around as the wind kept messing with it.
Jotaro’s eyes widened as his hat began to roll towards the water line- he’d hate to lose his cap. Panicked, he started darting towards the garment, desperately trying to snag it before the encroaching wave claimed it to the sea. Seeing as it was a few meters away, it seemed futile; even with his Stand, it was still a little too far to reach. He stretched out his hand, just before the wave crashed onto his hat-
In a blur of motion, Jotaro watched as a pair of hands latched onto the rim of his cap, pulling it off the sand just as the water ran over the sand. Looking up, he saw you, wincing as the cold wave rolled over your bare toes, hat in hand. After taking a moment to adjust to the temperature, you turned to meet Jotaro’s eyes as you lightly shook the sand off his cap.
“Just in time!” You giggled to him, chipperly, “Here you go!”
He nodded, murmuring a “thank you” before securing the hat back to his head. You smiled at him, returning his nod before sauntering back to your beach chair. Jotaro watched as you returned, curious as to how he didn’t notice you sooner on his walk. You had a whole set up- a little book, your chair, and a rather large bottle of wine.
Jotaro wasn’t one to involve himself in other’s business, but the inner marine biologist in him couldn’t resist.
“You shouldn’t bring glass to the beach. You could hurt someone,” he deadpanned, pulling your attention back to him. You gave him a confused look before he motioned towards the wine bottle, realization filling your eyes.
“Well, I was gonna use it for a little project,” you sighed, taking a seat back in your chair, “Can you give me a pass after saving your hat?”
“You could kill some sea creature with that. If that gets in the water, you could do some real damage,” he responded, completely ignoring your last comment.
“Says the man with a cigarette between his teeth,” you shot back, your light smile turning into a mischievous smirk, “If that were to slip from your mouth, some seahorse could choke on it.”
Jotaro made a slight ‘tch’ noise, taking another drag from his cigarette. He hated when other people were right.
“What’s your little project anyways?”
He watched as you reached for the bottle, stripping the gold foil off and putting it in the basket you brought everything in. Despite your lazy body language, Jotaro could see a tinge of sadness in your eyes after he asked the question.
“-I just had my boyfriend of five years break up with me,” you began, popping off the cork, aiming it just right so it also landed in the basket, “I thought he was gonna propose soon. Turns out he would rather be with the girl he cheated on me with. I was planning on downing his whole bottle, writing a little message, and sending it out to sea.”
He gave you a puzzled look, so you felt the need to continue.
“I waited for so long for this guy to marry me, but turns out it was all for nothing. I’m just gonna write my number on that slip of paper and see where it goes. I’m letting fate do the rest.”
Jotaro wasn’t one for sympathy, but he gave you a somber look. You expected him to extend a little ‘I’m sorry’ to you before shuffling off, but surprisingly, he stayed. For a moment, you both looked into each other’s eyes, trying to figure the other out.
Jotaro now noticed your disheveled appearance, finding your hair messy and eyes slightly red and puffy; this break up was certainly recent. You were simply struggling to comprehend him. His eyes were sympathetic towards you, but the rest of his face was unreadable. His face, including his excessive hat, jacket, and turtleneck made you curious- who exactly was this guy?
“I’m willing to share, y’know,” you chuckled, extending your arm to offer him the bottle, “You can keep an eye on me, make sure I don’t kill any dolphins.”
“Yare Yare,” he rolled his eyes, pulling his hands in his pockets. Despite his look of distaste, he stepped towards you, plopping down onto the sand. He surprised himself, wondering why he would ever want to spend his free time with a stranger. Was it how you were both in similar situations? Was it the pain in your eyes that he shared? Could it be how you went out of your way to save his hat despite the awful things that had just happened to you? He didn’t know. Frankly, he didn’t care either, grabbing the bottle from your hands and taking a quick swig.
“I didn’t get your name,” you spoke, taking the bottle back from him, “I’m (Y/n).”
“Jotaro,” he replied, watching as you gulped down a large portion of the bottle in one go.
“Jotaro,” you parroted, “That’s a nice name. Unique.”
He nodded, watching you intently. In between long stretches of silence, you two made passing conversation. Both of you were bizarrely drawn to each other, the quirks of the other presenting themselves like a mystery to be solved.
In the end, you never ended up sending out that message in a bottle. You ended up giving that message to Jotaro yourself, ripping out a page of the notebook you brought along to scribble your number down for him.
You said you’d leave your next relationship up to fate, and it seemed that a sudden gust of wind was decisive enough.

hugs (M)
Tumblr media
— Enduring the third heat with Changbin, his soft morning kisses help mend the long hours you’ve spent in bed.
pairing: werewolf! changbin x human! gender-neutral! reader genre: supernatural! au, smut, fluff word count: 1k [warnings]: post-heat w changbin, established relationship, biting/marking, possessive! changbin (oops. it’s lycan nature, okay), mentions of multiple rounds/overstimulation, tight hugs do not interact with this if you are under 18.
Tumblr media
Tender skin of your neck lightly throbbing from the marks left by Changbin, the soft beat of his heart almost lulled you back to sleep. You could feel every tooth mark pressed into your skin, the bites decorating you like they were meant to be there. The faint feeling from an hour before — his lips leaving butterfly kisses all around until his tongue swiped against the smooth texture to taste you still strong in your mind. He was extravagant in this time, his heat getting the best of him.
His rut had gone on for hours, time passing like seconds when he was filling you, marking you with his scent and growling in your ear. The chance of you laying still with him in the middle of the feverish rounds were slim, his rough panting and wet tongue aural, surround sound from below him as his hands would run over your body. It caused him to rush again, the purple marks melted into your skin more than love bites — warning signs to all that stared.
Changbin wasn’t the possessive type, his heats hitting him in waves. Imagination running wild, he couldn’t contain the ideas of others seeing you so vulnerable. Therefore, his mouth attached to every part of your body. Each limb acquired a mark, your moans and enjoyment of his rough hands all over you making him feral. His mouth scouring your body only heightened his senses further until he finally took you altogether.
It was his nature to be just that, your warm eyes always intriguing him, requesting more. You would call out if any pain ensued — he knew that, guiding him to continue whatever he desired while the white filter of lust and pleasure coated his irises. His tongue painting stripes along your body and across places only he would ever see. Changbin adored you like a delicate flower, but he could destroy you in a matter of seconds with his primal hunger.
The twenty-four hour spectrum would tire you quickly, rounds more belligerent as the full moon would rise. Once it was at its peak, you knew Changbin was lost inside himself, the beast far too gone to care if you needed a second’s rest. At that time, you got the most from your body. Orgasms that had you shaking, mind desolate as you felt him huffing into the pillow above your head to quiet his groans. He would shift, the neediness in his eyes for more causing a rush of chills to disperse up your spine, taking you over and over until his name was all you could speak.
The sun rising in the sky was what woke you, purple rays spanning across the wall adjacent to the bed as your eyes finally peeled open. Limbs weighing more than you could lift, your sight matched with the ceiling as you kept your breathing steady, listening to Changbin sleep peacefully below you.
Even unconscious he was aware, his hand slowly trailing your waist to push over your abdomen with a comforting hold. The breaths of his sleep turned thin before they grew skimmer, his body pulling itself from the restful state. As apologetic as the man was, he couldn’t hide the smirk from your peripheral when he took notice of the marks printed into your shoulders and down your chest, trialing to where he delved in for hours and caused you to cry out his name.
“Rough night?” he asked jokingly. Your light mumble was hardly a response, heavy lids closing as he shifted below you. He shook your head with his free hand, fingers pressing into yours cheeks as his palm held your chin. “Look at me.”
His tone was more demanding than he implied, a hiss following as he calmed his voice. Lips attaching to the skin just below your ear, you moaned, his hand releasing your face. Your back rested against his chest, the hastily finish of your last round ending in you falling against him as you both drifted off to sleep. Changbin’s skin ran hot, the sweat still dripping from your body more calming than annoying to you as nothing but his scent lingered in the air.
The hand over your waist tightened, the effortless move of the gentle man only a tell that he was himself again. His free hand ran along your arm. His eyes met with the deep blue filling the room as the sun hardly peaked, the dawn agile. Your head barely turned to watch his fingers stretch out, his hand overlapping the back of your own before his fingers laced between your own digits. The content sigh from him abided in your mind, the best part of Changbin’s heats glossing your present.
He knew you all too well, the light grasp of your fingers meeting the tops of his too little of contact as his head dipped back between your neck. Just in the crook, his tongue grazed over an older bite — the first he made when he pulled you along the home to retreat in the bedroom for the long hours.
Without hesitation, his chin rested on the same spot, contact with the bite enough to make his heart skip beats. His hand released your own, slinking to meet his other arm and link the two together in a tight hug. He was relentless in physical contact, a groan loud in your ear as he nuzzled you gently and ran the pads of his fingers against your stomach.
“Was I too much?” The same question he asked for the last two heats you experienced with him, it was practically rhetorical at this point. “These are going to be around for a while.” He huffed in between every other word like his own marks took his breath away, the light touch of his fingers running across the space between your ribs enough to have you mewling.
“Always just right.” you smiled, tilting your head to look into his eyes.
He glistened in the light of the sun now almost fully risen, eyes blinking slowly as he kept a tight hold on you. Stuck in a tangent, neither of you could move — didn’t want to, but Changbin’s kisses pressing into your neck once more told you that it would be a little longer before you rose from the bed anyways.

I walked through the halls of Hope’s Peak Academy, still toweling off my scalp after a shower in the gym’s locker room. Heavily I sighed, thankful for the much-needed sustenance that was soon to come when I finally reached the cafeteria. Sport after sport, activity after activity, it really wore the body out. Hope’s Peak really stressed the importance of the Ultimate-level students honing their skills. That’s why we were there, after all. Yes, we took general education classes like any normal student, the basics like the many different types of mathematics, general art, history, government, sciences and all that, but each student in the Main Course had several hours a day blocked out of their schedule dedicated to their specific talent and that talent only. It was rigorous, obsessive, and exhausting.
At times like this, I envied those who sat down for their talent, like animators and gamers, for I, the Ultimate Athlete, was always on my feet. Not that I’m saying art and gaming don’t take a lot out of those students, I just wanted a break from physical exertion once and awhile. My brain wasn’t stimulated quite as much as I’d like. Even the other athletes, like Aoi Asahina, the Ultimate Swimmer, and Akane Owari, the Ultimate Gymnast, had one set training area, and trained one sport for long sessions during the school day. As the all around Ultimate Athlete, the administration of Hope’s Peak had me training lots of different sports and exercise methods in short bursts. This meant running across campus from the pool to the dojo, from the gym to the baseball field, from the wrestling mat to the biking trails. Every day, a different muscle was sore, but I suppose I can’t really complain. It is an honor to be selected to attend Hope’s Peak. I mean, there were hundreds of regular students paying extraordinary rates to attend, just to be mocked and berated for being Reserve Course students anyway. I was lucky to have been chosen as the Ultimate Athlete at all, considering they already had so many types of athletes here. I think the appeal of my talent was that instead of being the best at one sport alone, I was above average at every single sport there was. Well, there was no use wasting time dwelling on my burnt-out body, because immediately after lunch, I was expected back at the gym with no delay. The longer this walk took, the less time I had to eat.
Picking up the pace, I sprinted - something I excelled at - through the courtyard that connected the Reserve Course and Main Course wings for what was a well-known shortcut to the cafeteria. Reaching the other side, I slowed my pace, my eyes landing on a curious scene that caught my attention. Three Reserve Course girls - distinguishable by the ash-black of their identical uniforms as opposed to the customizable (and optional) Ultimate uniforms - were whispering in hushed tones in front of one of the cream-colored pillars of the courtyard surrounded by some well-tended flowers. They trembled slightly, a bit jittery it seemed, and were clearly gossiping profusely like the gaggle of hens they resembled. There was malice and fear in their expressions as they looked back and forth from the object of their scrutiny then back to each other to deliberate and discuss. My eyes followed their line of sight to the opposite side of the courtyard, where the pond and benches sat. Of course, it was him. How did I not notice him as I passed by from that end? I must have been in some hurry.
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu, the Ultimate Yakuza, sat on the ground leaned up against a wall on the opposite side of the courtyard, scrawling notes into a notebook in his lap. His brow was creased, fairly engrossed in his studies. I could tell he heard the girls chattering, they weren’t being subtle and weren’t very far away, but Fuyuhiko was paying them no mind.
“Do you think his dad threatens the teachers if they give him a bad grade?” A blonde gasped, as if the thought had just occurred to her.
“Probably, I wouldn’t put anything past that clan of brutes,” another plain-looking girl whimpered in reply.
I stopped to watch the situation play out, hiding behind a nearby pillar and ready to step in if it continued, as rumor-spreading bullies were something that I just couldn’t stand by any means. I knew Fuyuhiko could handle himself… err… maybe I was just being a bit nosey to be honest.
After a few more minutes of the clique getting louder and bolder with their insultingly toxic babble, I saw Fuyuhiko’s head snap up, throwing them a pointed glare. The flock gasped in unison, with looks of horror on their faces, and scrambled away past me and into the hall. I smirked merrily: now that reaction was the more typical one. I was just thinking how brave these girls must have been to be provoking a Kuzuryuu in the first place. Many people in the school, and just the country in general were terrified of them. I myself felt a bit indifferent about Fuyuhiko. He was in my home room and never caused trouble.
The Kuzuryuu Clan was the largest and most powerful Yazuka clan in the country, with ties to national governments, huge drug rings, and a hand in many influential corporations throughout the country. People knew to fear them and not to mess with them, like any gang. Fuyuhiko was the only son of the head of the clan, and next in line as its leader, but if you’d spoken more than two words to the guy, you’d see that it was wise to respect him, but there was no need to fear him. In fact, his little sister Natsumi, who terrorized the Reserve Course girls, probably was the reason Fuyuhiko’s reputation around the school was smeared by association. People saw her bitterness, her jealousy, her need to harass or threaten anyone who she felt inferior to, her horrible attitude, and probably transferred that fear over to her older brother, thinking the siblings must be similar. It was just ridiculous. If anything, he was an asshole at times, but not dangerous.
Plus, how could someone be afraid of a guy who looked like that? Fuyuhiko was both adorable in some ways, and handsome in others. His cute side came out through in his meager height, the way his pale skin blushed easily when flustered, the softness of his blonde hair, the small pout he wore at times. He didn’t even have ink yet like most Yazuka. His skin was milky and untouched. On the other side of the spectrum, he was handsome and manly in the way he spoke, the elegance of his expensive suits and ties, his intelligence, the way he carried himself, his sharp and intense gaze. I always thought it was more reasonable to be attracted to him rather than afraid.
He did have a bit of an attitude problem, but I often felt bad for him because of it. The quipping, feisty exterior he presented was clearly a coping mechanism, a method of self-defense after years of pressure to be a pillar of his family and being misunderstood by his peers. It probably wasn’t easy to be expected to watch or even perform drug deals, interrogations, or even murders - who knows? Then after all of that, you come back into normal society and get judged for being tiny with a baby face behind your back while people are scared of you to your face.
He projected the anger he was taught was normal, and used the years of being raised in the Yakuza to adapt and mold his personality. He often cursed out or blew up at others, was stubborn and hard to work with, did his own thing, and despite how well he thought he hid her, his personal bodyguard being around the corner ready to kick someone’s ass at a moment's notice deterred many potential friendships. Most of our home room were friends with him, but I rarely talked to him. I really only made myself known to a few of the quieter kids in our class like Komaeda and Tsumiki, even Peko herself at times… but other than them I mainly kept to myself.
I just wished…. he’d talk to me first. I was desperate to get to know him without the fear of feeling like I was bothering him.
Ok, so maybe I wasn’t as indifferent as I let on before. Now that I’ve given myself away, I suppose I’ll just say it:
Yes, I was a bit biased on the topic of Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu because… I had a massive crush on him.
And it was hard, so very hard to see him in class everyday, at the dorms, around campus, and not be able to make those feelings known. I couldn’t tell if it was fear of judgment, fear of rejection, fear of him just cussing me out until I pissed myself, maybe a mix of all three? But now we were alone… save for Peko, who was undoubtedly spying from somewhere close by. Why should I care what anyone thinks? I was sure he’d never tell anyone if he rejected me anyway. He wasn’t the gossiping type, and he only told people what he needed them to hear. Steadying myself, I took a deep breath and stepped out from behind the decorative colonnade. As I shakily stepped across the grass, lunch became the last thing on my mind, and I approached him. He didn’t even look up until I began to speak, cowardice lining my tone.
“H-hey,” I mumbled, towering above him like some weirdo. He squinted in suspicion, a small pout settling onto his lips as he silently acknowledged me. “Are you studying?!” I yelled more than spoke, my nerves taking hold. He rolled his eyes, holding the notebook up with one hand. I couldn’t help scanning him, taking in the way the sun bounced off the yellow fluff of his buzz cut, the way his chest heaved slowly, the cute little mole under his bottom lip. I was sweating, wondering if Peko would knock me out for getting too close, but also entranced in his hazel eyes.
“What does it look like?” He huffed, irritated by my very presence. He probably came out hime to be alone, after all. Now he had to deal with me right after those insufferable girls.
“Ah, haha, yeah, well anyway, I wanted to say that those girls were obnoxious and wrong. You shouldn’t let their words get to you. They’re meaningless. Y-you shouldn’t care about what they think. I-” I spoke quickly, nervously, and he parried my words instantly, tired of me wasting his precious time.
“I don’t give a shit what they think. Since you’re such a fuckin’ creep and were apparently watching the whole time, you must have seen me scare them off, yeah? I obviously don’t care, and I don’t need some rando to come give me a fuckin’ pep talk! What do I look like to you, some fuckin’ kid that got his feelings hurt by some bullies? Fuck those bitches and fuck you! If that’s all you had to say, get lost,” he spat, and I flinched backwards. He was feeling vulnerable, and biting back was the only thing she knew, like an abused dog lashing out at its rescuers. I knew not to take it personal, that Fuyuhiko sometimes said things he didn’t mean out of anger. I knew all of this, but I was still taken aback and thoroughly intimidated. Almost as soon as he’d snapped at me, he settled back into his calm studying, opening the notebook again. That was Fuyuhiko, a little ball of rage that could be turned on and off like a switch.
“Well, I, um-” I cut off my own words, swiftly turning on my heel and marching out of the courtyard, clutching my bag like it could save me from this humiliation.
~
“Fuck… I’m such an idiot.” I shook my head, involuntarily replaying my blunderous attempt to ask Fuyuhiko out in my head over and over again. Could it even be called that? I mean, I didn’t even get to the asking out part before I made a complete fool of myself and pissed him off. I was now rushing through the corridors of the first floor, trying to make it to what was my last class of the day after a very short lunch and some extremely demanding training. The gardening class was mainly unsupervised and casual, but I hated the feeling of being technically late nonetheless.
The term “class” is used loosely hime. At Hope’s Peak, each student was required to choose an elective course that “gave back” to the community or school in some way. It was thought to boost the school’s reputation, along with the student’s resume. That was the sentiment the school held, anyway. Some students volunteered at local retirement homes, some, like the eccentric Gundham Tanaka, lead clubs that tended to rescue animals and raised them. Others tutored exchange students in Japanese, some did maintenance around the school to earn the credit. I chose the gardening club, where students would break up into little groups and tend to all the plants, flowers, grass, vegetable gardens, and courtyards on and around campus. Sometimes we even took “field trips” to tend to other local greenery. I found it to be the most calming and quiet option of all the electives. There was very little human interaction, and it was satisfying to see the (literal) fruits of your labor grow.
Today I would be tending to the garden in the secondary courtyard behind the school. This one was more hidden away, rarely ever used, and that’s what I loved about it. But… as I turned the corner, my box of gardening supplies in hand, I froze dead in my tracks, shuffling back to hide behind the cover of the wall.
Fuyuhiko was sitting there on his hands and knees, pruning weeds from the garden. The coat of his uniform was discarded, and she sat in only his slacks and a button up dress shirt with a tie. He had little towels folded up as make-shift knee padding, green gloves on, and was leaning into his work with such fervor.
What?! I screamed internally, panic taking hold of me. I had been a member of the gardening club for months, and not once had I seen him on the class roster or in rotation. I’d been to every station, been assigned every task at least once, and I’d never been paired with him. So of course, on the day I was thoroughly humiliated in front of him, here he was, ruining what was supposed to be the most relaxing part of my day. I considered leaving, simply lying about my hour of gardening time on the school’s check-in portal, but something in me told me to stay. I sat there, fighting with myself, nearly collapsing with anxiety, and then he began to speak, tearing my from my thoughts:
“Now now, how are you gonna grow big and strong if you keep lettin’ these little punks fuck you up like this…?” He huffed, almost fatherly in his tone. I peeked around the corner, wondering who the hell he was talking to. Maybe this shift wouldn’t be so awkward with a third party to distract me from him, I thought, but when I hazarded a glance, not a soul was in sight, save Fuyuhiko. Taking a closer look, I noticed his calloused hands nestled around the leaf of a plant, and he tsk’d, observing the bite marks left by pestiferous insects and small animals. He was talking to the plant?! My cheeks started to warm up, my heart melting at the realization.
Fuyuhiko began to hum, then to sing softly, a lullaby of sorts for this injured little green darling. Holding my breath, I nearly crumpled against the wall, feeling my flush spread from my cheeks to rush throughout my entire body. This is so fucking cute, I thought to myself, glancing once more, perhaps a bit riskily. I was getting greedy, greedy for even a glimpse of seeing him in the state of happiness I knew he deserved. I couldn’t care less if Peko was sneaking up behind me with a bamboo sword at the ready.
When I looked, he was smiling, truly smiling. I’d never seen him smile like that before, a smile birthed out of an innocent and serene joy, and now I never wanted it to stop. There was no way I was turning back now.
I took a few steps back down the hall, then stomped loudly toward the courtyard, allowing him to save face by thinking I had only just approached. I knew I would be in for quite the sour retaliation if he knew I had caught him singing. He may have even gotten up and left. He looked up, still leaned over his plants but now dead silent as I entered, and when he realized who I was, his breath caught in his throat. Another expression I rarely saw from him: one of being caught off guard.
“Hey… so, I didn’t know you were in the gardening club? I’ve been in it since the start and I’ve never seen you.” I set down my box next to him and pulled out some gloves. I was hoping that acting like earlier never happened was the best course of action. Something can’t be awkward if it doesn’t exist, right? Luckily, he played along… or rather, just didn’t bring it up, either.
“Uh, yeah. I was hoping to avoid all the bullshit of the whole, volunteer-but-not -actually-because-it’s-a-requirement class thing altogether. I just don’t have time for this shit, but my academic advisor caught on and forced me into gardening. It was the last one with spots left open…” he grumbled, as if he weren’t absolutely loving it mere moments ago.
“Huh… and they aren’t penalizing you for, you know, losing all those points from the first few months you missed?” I inquired bravely. Maybe those girls were right earlier about his father threatening professors…?
“Nah, I guess not. My advisor is super chill. She worked something out…”
“That’s lucky…” my words trailed off, and we both got to work. The longer the silence grew, the more the awkward energy imposed itself on both of us. I could tell that he was thinking back to our earlier encounter by the way he made eye contact and quickly snatched his gaze away, the way she would open his mouth then close it without a hesitant word.
~
Half an hour passed, and my nerves were beginning to stand on edge. What was more daunting than being alone with your crush? Being alone with your crush who verbally ripped you a new one that same day.
Now mere inches away from him, focusing in on the same patch of flowers, we both reached for a small watering can at the same time, and our hands touched briefly, fleetingly before he snatched his own back, a shade of pink dusting his soft cheeks. He turned away, embarrassed, but I couldn’t have been more excited by the small interaction. Still, for both our sakes, I felt the need to break the silence.
“You… you seem happier - now, I mean… as opposed to earlier today…” It was time to bring up the elephant in the room. I saw his body tense up, his spine stiffen, and he turned to face me, dirt staining his forearms and a swipe on his cheek where he’d scratched an itch earlier.
“Yeah… I should probably apologize for that, bein’ a dick and all. I was just, really pissed and stressed. I shouldn’t have attacked you like that… it’s just… those stupid, loud-mouth, air-headed-” I saw his fists clench, his gloves squeaking a bit under the pressure. I continued where he left off, not wanting him to force himself to relive the gossip or the anger attached to it.
“It’s fine, seriously. I get it. There will always be assholes like them in the world. I don’t blame you for being upset. Besides, I’m sure it was weird to have a stranger just approach you like that, trying to give you unsolicited advice and bothering you by-”
“Well, you’re not really a stranger, are you? I’ve seen you around plenty of times… and you’re in my home room.” He spoke reluctantly, clearly fighting against the compulsory need to deflect and defend.
“O-oh, yeah, you are. I didn’t think you’d notice.” I felt my heart rate speed up. Of course I’d seen him many times in the back of the classroom, but I had no idea he’d given me even a first glance, much less a second one.
“Of course I noticed. Sports, right? Exercise, fitness, an’ all that?” He nodded, smirking. God, he was so hot… I didn’t know how to contain my excitement. I was trying my best.
“Yeah, exactly. Sports, exercise, fitness. That’s me.” I chuckled a bit, finding myself more and more drawn to him with every second spent in his presence.
“Shit’s cool. I can respect someone who’s disciplined and keeps in shape. I’ve seen a few of your games,” he let slip.
“You have?” I immediately picked it up, a shiver of anticipation running over my skin and setting my pores on fire. Fuyuhiko wasn’t on any of the teams I played for and his Ultimate talent had nothing to do with sports. He wasn’t the type to go watch a sports game for fun, and didn’t have the free time for it anyway.
My eyes widened slowly, and I’m sure he could see the moment I made the connection deep inside myself almost as soon as I’d made it.
That was the day I realized that Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu liked me back.
An obscene shade of red flooded onto his face and his nose scrunched up, his voice cracking as he spoke:
“Stop starin’ at me like that! The fuck’s wrong with you?!”

Chapter Twenty | Ooo (Part 1 of 2)
[First] | [Previous] | [Next]
Alternate Chapter Title: Before the Clock Strikes Midnight
• • •
Knock-knock.
However common, the sound makes you jolt. You stop everything you're doing to check on your schedule, needing to consult with it first to better establish yourself into reality. It takes a few pages and some seconds of reading for you to determine you don't expect any visitors today.
Knock-knock.
"One moment," you shout; stress spikes as you fail to wrap things up quicker, having to bring the stew into a boil before turning it off.
You're not sure what to anticipate from the one waiting at the door, nor why it's worrying your thoughts as much as it is. A knock was nothing to be afraid of, as wasn't receiving a surprise visit if you were to consider how tidy your home was and how up-to-date you were with your responsibilities. Regardless, the sound of the door opening sends all meditating techniques aside and panic replaces your search for serenity and reasoning. You rush off to the living room and get ready to face whoever's there, though not without letting that alert state show through your posture and the way you hold on tight to the knife you used for cutting the vegetables.
"Who's-"
Warmth leaves your body the second you see who the person is; the knife almost falls, yet the visitor rescues it by its handle and gives it back to you afterwards. Your offensive stance vanishes and you find yourself incapable of storing the weapon away without making yourself seem like an anxious mess. The man stares at you throughout -- making matters worse, no doubt.
"G- God, I'm sorry!" you blurt out, frowning. "I thought you were-"
"I've had worse welcomes into strangers' homes," Bubbles says, remaining unfazed. "Though that still doesn't excuse the… oddity of your actions." He greets Frisk -- now closing the door of the living room -- with a nod and a smile. He then takes a small step forward and closer to you, cornering you in place without doing much about it. "Is there something wrong, (L/N)? You appear different from the first time we met."
You gulp tension away and attempt a smile.
"It's been a rough couple of months, so I've grown... worried about bad things happening," you reply, taking a breath. "N- Not even those two months without Frisk were as scary as these new changes. Back then, I had little to lose -- I'd already lost my own child; there wasn't much left around for me to keep living for. No reason for it. Frisk wasn't with me anymore, and… And I destroyed all my other relationships, so -- in the end -- I was alone and I didn't have anywhere to go." You huff and follow it up with a shudder. "But now… Now I've got plenty to lose and barely any ideas on how to prevent that from happening. I don't want to lose the progress I've made until now, and I… I don't want to keep screwing up so much, either."
"You should seek some sort of counseling, if so."
He takes a step back and sits on the couch when Frisk offers him to.
You copy the man's actions, choosing the recliner opposite to his seat to maintain eye contact with him.
"There's a fine line between fear and paranoia, and I believe you're crossing the latter now," he adds, frowning. "Or do you consider it normal to come running all the way from the kitchen to the living room, pointing a knife at me -- and looking as on-edge as you were just a moment ago?" He stops for a minute. "I understand you're being cautious, and that you're worried over Frisk opening the door to anyone who knocks on it, but your reaction just now was much different from the first day we met -- in a few ways positive, but in most ways not."
"I… I'll try to find some help, then," you reply, sighing. You then bring a hand to your forehead and rub at your temples, brow creasing in the process. "But... May I ask what's the reason for your visit? I thought our next meeting would be by the end of the year," you stop yourself at the feeling of being impolite, "...Not that I mind you visiting! I just… I thought I had more time to research more about monsters."
He keeps quiet for what feels like an eternity, heightened by the loud ticktock of the clock hanging nearby. "I can answer, but only if you promise me you'll be true to your word, and if you provide thorough evidence the next occasion we meet -- both with your counseling and research."
"I already have some on my research," you say, smiling. "Could I show it to you?"
"You should," he replies, impassive.
"E- Excuse me for a moment, then."
He nods.
Nodding back, you walk off to your room and clear your throat on the way there in an attempt at gaining some strength. You can feel your resolve debilitating with each second, likely product of the surprise visit, but undoubtedly influenced by factors beyond it. The bunny notepad gifted to you was still a work in progress. You'd barely just managed to cover half of the ten main people Frisk was associated with. Toriel, Papyrus, and Sans were the three you'd learned most about, while Undyne and Alphys had been left behind with the whirlwind you'd been pulled into since the monsters arrived at the Surface. It's difficult to admit you'd rather go back to how things were before Frisk ended up at the Underground, yet -- at the same time -- there's plenty of things that outweigh that desire, varying from the help and friendship both Toriel and Papyrus offered you, to the 'friends with benefits' sort of relationship you shared with the latter's older brother.
You brush those thoughts aside when picking up the notepad; priorities are rearranged as you step out and make way back to the living room.
No matter what, you weren't about to lose your child simply for allowing them to keep spending time with a group known to have hurt them first. Something had to be done, even if it involved you becoming an antagonist. As lovely as the monsters were and are, there are some sacrifices you're not quite ready to make yet -- however selfish some of these make you feel.
The routine of breathing in and out is kept in mind as you arrive at the living room, where -- true to his word -- Bubbles is still at. He's still sitting on the couch, but at a different spot as he leaves space for Frisk, who's showing him the hundred-piece puzzle they're more than halfway through finishing. A smile can be seen on his face, and he doesn't have his sunglasses on anymore, making him appear much more approachable now. That -- however nice of a sight to see -- changes when he looks up from the puzzle and stares down at you, smile changing to a firm line and eyes narrowing when meeting yours.
"Is that all your evidence?" he asks, gaze going further down to stare at the bunny notepad in hand. "Forgive me for saying this, but I'm afraid that doesn't seem like much, at first glance."
It isn't.
Bile forms in your throat and you're urged to squeeze the notepad tight, too anxious to let your muscles relax and too nauseous not to grow irate. "It's possible it might not be much," you confess, frowning. You then bite on your lower lip to prevent your voice from lowering. "I've had a tough time deciding, and…" You sigh and loosen your shoulders afterwards. "And then other things got in the way, but... Judging by the situation, I should wait until you ask me what these things are, shouldn't I?
"That would be preferable," he replies, gaze and mouth softening. "Care to place that notebook on the table? I'll only need a few minutes to look through it."
"Of course."
With that final agreement, you approach the coffee table and set the evidence down. An instinct to flee from the scene while he reads overcomes your senses, though you remind yourself of the severity of the situation and what lies ahead. You sit back down on the recliner and tap your foot as you wait for him, an action you can't bring control over with how shaky your entire body is. Even so much as keeping yourself in one place feels like a challenge you're not exactly ready to overcome presently. Regardless, you comply and distract yourself by looking at Frisk, who's still finishing with their puzzle.
"It's been months, and yet this is the only information you've found?" Bubbles asks, fixing the sunglasses now resting on his head as he brings the notebook closer to him. "There's hardly ten people on this list, (L/N)," he adds, face scrunching as he reads through the list again. "Just what have you been up to this entire time?"
A combined sense of guilt and embarrassment take over, causing an overall inability to stare at him, already hard to do with the intensity of his gaze. "I've been touring the Underground," you begin, bracing yourself with a breath. "I was also hospitalized for a while, and then there was some... personal trouble with my ex-husband the day after I, well…" Your face burns at the thought. "Spent the night at a hotel with, uh… monster number three."
Bubbles eyes the list again and stops immediately.
"Serif?" he asks, showing you the notebook and pointing at his name. He then looks back to it and skips through a few pages. A subtle curve shows up on his mouth, almost making him appear as if he's smiling. "I assumed as much, judging by how much there's written about him." Sighing, he closes the notepad and stares at you again. "But spent the night in a literal sense, or-"
"Literal!" you exclaim, too stressed to bear listening until the end. "We're not dating, but…"
"You wish you were?"
"Uh… Kinda?"
His neutral expression changes to a subtle frown. "That doesn't answer my question, unfortunately."
"I'm not sure," you elaborate, huffing as you furrow your brow and grimace, headache returning. "We've… We've called each other nicknames a couple of times, and we almost kissed once, but, well…"
"Wasn't he the one troubling you the most?" he asks, frown growing more prominent. "While I do not wish to question you over who you befriend, this is the same man you informed me about a few months ago, who -- quote: 'threatened Frisk with death and did very little to help them out in the Underground'." He stops to breathe in deep, huffing just as loud after. "Can you sincerely admit to me you've developed a crush on him ever since then -- cross your heart?" he adds, forehead wrinkling and hands folding over the notebook. "Has he shown any repentance over his actions for you to be forgiving him so easily?"
"That's exactly why ren's not dating him officially yet!" Frisk intervenes, standing up from their seat like a lawyer would do when defending their client. "They-"
"Please, do not interrupt us. It's for your own good, Frisk (L/N)."
"But it's true," they state, persisting. "I-"
"It's been roughly three months since I last gave this home a visit, and yet I've seen little progress made with the only task I assigned to you, (L/N)," he says, standing up straight. "You were meant to determine and establish which monsters are safe to have around Frisk, and which ones aren't, but -- so far -- the only information you've given me's going stagnant with how long it's taken you to make a decision."
You're the one to stand up next, against letting yourself feel weaker.
"That's what I've been doing, even if it looks like I haven't made any progress," you reply, fists clenching. Your heart races faster with each moment that passes, making you seek some calm through the reminder of how fragile your current physical state is. "I- I've toured half of the Underground with that same man, I've settled an agreement with Toriel as to how much time she's allowed to spend with Frisk, and I'm... I'm trying to understand number three's intentions by-"
"By dating him."
"Please, let me finish."
Bubbles chuckles and crosses his arms, staring down at you afterwards. "Alright." He sighs and loosens up as he massages the bridge of his nose. "Then, would you be kind enough to explain to me what you've learned about him so far? And just why haven't you made a decision yet, if you happen to know him that well?"
"He's, uh…" You hesitate with a frown. "He's difficult to understand, but he... He means well, and I trust his intentions better these days."
"This is the same man you were accusing of being a hypocrite the first day you met him."
"And now it's been months, sir." You harrumph when noticing the sudden rise in your tone. "I've learned enough now to know he doesn't mean any harm."
"And to what extent would you say your trust towards him goes?" he asks, uncrossing his arms and softening his gaze. "Is it enough for you to accept his and Toriel's offer of having you and your child in that new school? Or enough to still hesitate when asked about the nature of your relationship with him?" His stern mouth turns to a frown, revealing whole-hearted concern. "How can you trust him enough for one thing, but not the other -- if one is much more weighted than the other?"
You take a second to think and calm down some more. His questions make rounds about your mind as you weigh the pros and cons of not only your relationship with monster number three, but with everyone else, as well. Finding an answer proves difficult the more you stay quiet to reflect on the heaviness of both sides. Either way, consequences would soon follow, and you were required to act fast -- judging by Bubble's words. If you wanted to let Frisk keep their relationship with the monsters and for you to maintain your own, you needed to speed things up more than you would want to, given how much willpower you have left.
"Because even then, they're still different things," you speak up, breaking the silence. "Accepting that job offer and letting Frisk go to Toriel's school isn't the same as opening my heart out to someone new, when I screwed up big time seven years ago with a different guy."
Bubbles takes the notepad and gives it back to you. Then, he fixes his attire and looks at the time. His expression is hard to read with how serious his eyes and mouth have become, though his calm tone reveals he's neutral over the situation when he replies with, "Who you date is none of my concern, so long as it is done with another consenting adult, and so long as it doesn't bring any harm upon Frisk. The same goes for your friendships, but time's running out, and I need you to start making decisions soon." He stops to slip his sunglasses back on, masking his gaze, smoothened by sympathy for what seems like a split second -- if not less. "It's either that, or I'll have to make them for you." He sighs. Time of Realisation
Happy New Year, everyone! May 2021 be everything you ever wanted. Since I just finished writing for part 8 of this series, I wanted to post this one a bit earlier than the usual Fridays as a New Year’s Treat. So here we go! Part 7 of the ‘Successors of the Future’ is here.
(My Premium Grammarly account disappeared all of the sudden so please excuse any stupid grammatical or spelling errors you might find. I’ve edited this chapter thrice now and it should be ok??)
Before we start, we must do our ritual and give thanks to the ever amazing @tri3tri for letting us all expand on her Draconia Family series. Hope you’ll have a great year as well, Tri-senpai!
-
“To be honest with you Ren, I don’t remember much about Sebek. Just his voice. I still remember how loud his shouts were.”
“Eh, don’t sweat it too much. Take it as a blessing.”
Renata and Sherrie are in her room. The underwater aesthetic of Octavinelle is so beautiful to take in from the inside. It almost makes Renata wish that she’s a mermaid. Or a killer whale type of mermaid. Now that is a badass merfolk.
Just like Renata, Sherrie was given a room all to herself instead of sharing it with a dorm member due to her gender.
And her little sister did not waste time transforming her room just like her old one back at their home. Already her gaming computer has been set up on her study table, cosmetic sets of well-known brands - Nyx, My Pretty Zombie, and Fenty Beauty - are organised neatly on her shelves beside the standard textbooks and stationeries. One of the open drawers beside her cupboard full of her school uniforms as well as her Pastel Goth clothes display tins of green teas and stacks of instant foods.
Clearly, Sherrie has made herself right at home in Octavinelle. And less than a week too!
Actually, how much luggage did Sherrie brought from their home?
After the Entrance Ceremony, Renata waited two days for Sherrie to acclimate herself to Night Raven College, letting her talk to some of her dorm members, get a feel on the teachers before slipping into her bedroom to catch up. It was a mild surprise to see the state of her room after her little sister told her to plant her ass on the bed while she prepared a pot of hot green tea for them.
While she’s busy with the kettle, Renata wasted no time to explain what Ace told her during Winter’s Break when she inquired about Sebek. It was good to know that due to the dense magic in the Country of Thorns, technology is almost non-existent in the land due to magical interference. It also helps that despite being in the First-Year Forever group chat, Sebek barely checks his phone at all. Over time, Ace and the rest of their group forgot that Sebek is even in the group chat!
“Still, it’s good to know that Mama’s friends drifted away from Sebek over the years. That’ll help us a lot in the long run.” Sherrie commented after Renata wraps up her report. She handed a cup of tea to Renata and lean against her study table, facing the bed where her older sister is cooling her hot tea by channeling ice magic onto her fingertips. “What about the student body here? What are they like?”
“Everyone walks around as if they got a twelve-inch dick.” Renata’s sarcasm is as thick as the kelp forest outside of Sherrie’s bedroom window.
Sherrie couldn’t help but laugh at her deadpan tone; she had to put her cup of tea on the table before it spilled everywhere. “That bad, huh?” She giggles helplessly, wiping the tears from the corner of her eyes.
Renata was about to roll her eyes but stop herself and ponders. Despite their flaws, Hoyle and Rex are good friends. Hell, even Bakari vibes with her. Not quite friendly, but he hasn’t yet turned her away when she scurries over to intrude herself in whatever he’s currently doing. That, and she secretly enjoys finding little treats and snacks in her backpack after hanging out with him. “Ok, some of them aren’t so bad once you can get past their ego. Remind me to introduce Hoyle and Rex to you soon.”
Sherrie raises an eyebrow. “And what about that one guy who keeps giving you food?”
“You’ll see him around.”
“...Right.” Sherrie eyed her older sister with a knowing look when Renata nonchalantly shrugs. She’ll get back to that little topic later. “Have you prepare the little surprise for Mama?”
“Yup.” Renata affirmed and took a sip of her tea. She lets out a happy, little sigh when warmth travels across her body. “We’ll do it this weekend. That’s the only time that they’re free.”
The two talk a little more until Renata had to leave when curfew looms. The passing Octavinelle students gave her a side-eye for a few seconds but otherwise, no one batted an eye at seeing a Diasomnia student walking about their dorms. The whole school is aware that Renata and Sherrie are siblings by now. Renata wonders if her sister will receive the same cold politeness because of their horns.
Meanwhile, as Renata made her way to her own dorm, Sherrie is scrutinising the lock on her door with a frown. The previous used cups and teapot are all washed up and the lights are dim slightly since she’s planning to hit the bed right after she figures out how to secure her room thoroughly. There are just too many sensitive and important information about their family and plans against their father kept here. She straightens her back and tosses a glance at the computer and tablet lying on the table beside it. Sherrie had made sure to cultivate a habit of not storing the complete set of important materials in a single device - one can never be too careful after all. Especially when there’s a dorm here dedicate to Technomages. Hmm... perhaps she should befriend one of the students of Ignihyde to help her with the security of her electronic devices?
Though there’s still an issue with the simple lock of her door. Anyone can just force it open with a pick. Sherrie made a mental note to consult with her sister for some sort of spell that can solve this problem.
And with that, she quickly changes into a simple loose shirt and a pair of shorts before slipping under the duvet and turns in for the night.
Life as a halfling and an Octavinelle student quickly proves to be unlike anything Sherrie has ever experience.
Renata offhandedly advises her to shrug it off when her dorm members stare at her horns a little too long; they’ll get used to her soon enough. Sherrie cursed under her breath when her sister left and wondered if she could attend her classes virtually instead, but when she brought that up to her Dorm Leader, the shark merman raised an eyebrow and simply asked her if she’s an Octavinelle student or Ignihyde’s. Needless to say, Sherrie set on digging any dirt she can find on her Dorm Leader ASAP.
Other than the uncomfortable stares and shady Dorm Leader - Sherrie quite enjoys the scarf that comes with her uniform - as well as her dorm leader, tend to keep it to themselves. Underneath the polite offers of tutelage in classes and tours around Mostro Lounge, Sherrie can blatantly pick up the insinuation underneath those favours.
A favour for a favour - that’s how life in Octavinelle works. Information is worth more than Madols and dealings under the table is practically the norm.
Sherrie adapts in Night Raven College faster than Renata ever could.
Speaking of Madols, Sherrie needed to do something about their financial situations in Twisted Wonderland. Currency exchange is not a thing here so their dollars are practically worthless. Fortunately, Octavinelle expects its dorm members to pull their weights in Mostro Lounge. By the second week she’s in Night Raven College, her Dorm Leader already distributed the First Year’s schedule of their shifts around the café. The pay might not be much but it’s a good start.
There’s got to be a Twisted Wonderland equivalent of Youtube. She made mad revenue as a Youtuber and game streamer back home.
Today, Sherrie is working at Mostro Lounge with several other First Year students from other dorms. Customers flooded in during lunchtime and kept her busy manning behind the bar, preparing drinks and desserts.
“Presentation my ass...” Sherrie mumbled under her breath as she struggles to beautify the ice-cream sundae. She had to redo the whole thing when one of the staff - her Third Year senior - saw how plain her work was and taught her to make an art out of the dessert.
She was in the midst of deciding how many cherries would be enough to make the sundae look prettier when a rich, baritone voice broke her concentration. “Has the ice-cream offend you in some way, MC/S-san?”
Sherrie moves her face away from the towering glass to see a fellow dorm member smiling at her. How curious, his eyes are like hot, molten gold.
“No. I was just adding some finishing touches.” Sherrie reply, her voice remained neutral. She hasn’t seen this one around before.
Her dorm member continues to smile. It comes across as calculative instead of genuine. Renata would’ve spat fire at him already. “My, it looks wonderful. I’ll be sure to inform the customer that his sundae is prepared by your meticulous hand. I’m sure he’ll forgive you for the time he had to wait.”
Sherrie promptly turns around to store back the cherries into the fridge to hide her smirk. This nobody came forward trying to pick a fight with her? This could be fun. “I’m more than happy to receive our customer if he has any complaint with his sundae.”
“I’ll be sure to inform him.” He nods once and place the sundae on a tray and left the bar. Sherrie made sure to keep an eye on him after that.
He’s tall, taller than her, and play the perfect part of a waiter with ease. As if he grew up in this sort of environment. The way how he balances two heavy laden trays of food and drinks on his palms while weaving in between tables, greeting the customers with an impeccable smile is telling. This guy mastered the art of customer service for sure.
“Who’s the hotshot?” Sherrie asked her partner as she carefully wipes the clean glasses. Her shift partner - a Second Year manta ray merman, who was kind enough to introduce herself to her without any subtle jeer - glances at Sherrie’s line of sight, and his mouth made a small ‘o’.
“That’s Amber Leech. He’s one of the promising First Year students we got, according to the Vice Dorm Leader. You’re more of a wild card, though. Dorm Leader still doesn’t know what to think of you.”
Sherrie ignores that titbit about herself; she just hums. Didn’t Mama mention that she knows a Leech? “He’s good at handling the customers, I’ll give him that.” Sherrie admits, stacking the last dry glass onto the rack before her attention is capture by a server with a list of orders. Sherrie was too preoccupied with her job to scrutinised Amber any further after that.
Later when a Scarabia student relieved her of her shift with a quick exchange of pleasantries, instead of leaving, Sherrie decided to stick around and enjoy some free food in the kitchen. As long as she stayed out of the way, no one really minded her presence.
“Good job today, Leech-san. You can join MC/S-san in the kitchen if you’re hungry.”
“Thank you very much. I’ll be taking up on your kind offer then.”
Sherrie paused, tilting her head up from her small tub of ice-cream to see none other but Amber Leech step into the kitchen. Their eyes met and his calculative smile greeted her.
“Is this seat taken?” He politely asks her, gesturing to the vacant chair opposite her. The round table at the back of the kitchen is a bit small, barely enough to fit more than three people but it was far enough away from the kitchen staff so that they won’t be a bother.
“Knock yourself out.”
“Very well then.”
By the time he took out a red bento from the fridge, heat it up and takes a seat near the table, Sherrie has already polished the tub of ice-cream. When Amber noticed the empty tub, he frowns. It was so sudden that Sherrie couldn’t help but defensively blurted out, “What?”
“Is that all you having for lunch?” There’s a disapproving tone in his voice and Sherrie doesn’t know what to make of it.
“That? It was a snack. I had my lunch before my shift.”
For some reason, her dorm mate nodded, strangely pleased at her answer before he tucks into his lunch. By the looks of it, his bento is artfully made with a variety of colourful foods.
The two said nothing, simply enjoying the clatter of cooking utensils, sizzling fire on the stoves and the cooks hum under their breath. Here in the back of the kitchen, the chatter of customers outside is almost muted.
It was peaceful. So peaceful in fact, Amber Leech feels like it’s his sworn duty to shatter it.
“I suggest consulting either Aeacus Shroud or the other students in Ignihyde’s Basic Magical Technology group as your solution. Shroud-san is the only First Year student in that group but I heard he’s the most approachable of the lot.”
Sherrie’s heart froze. “What?”
Amber took his time to put away his now empty bento, dab the corner of his lip with a folded napkin that was on the table before replying, “For security of course.”
His answer is vague. Purposely so as he levels a stare at Sherrie.
“...How do you know that?” Sherrie all but demanded under her faux, indifferent voice.
Amber dared to smile and point his eyes, no word escape his lips.
A Unique Magic then. It has to be. Are his similar to Renata’s?
Sherrie’s mind races, for once, trying to decipher this strange student beside her.
And suddenly, Sherrie realises who this boy really is. The eyes were a give away.
“Amber Leech. Jade Leech’s son, I presume?”
-
“Mama, I’m home!”
“Welcome back, sweetie. How was cheer practice today?”
“It went really well, Mama. We nailed down the new routine without anyone falling off.” Lucien shuts the door close with his feet. He’s sweaty and still in his cheerleading uniform with a duffel bag sling over his shoulder. Seeing that his Mama is nowhere in the living room, Lucien padded into the kitchen.
The house is, unfortunately, a lot quieter now that his sisters are off at Night Raven College. Before Sherrie left, she and he talk about how their Mama would feel lonely now. Even more so when it’s his turn.
Lucien assured her that he’ll keep an eye on their Mama closely.
His friends would playfully tease him that he’s such a Mama’s boy; constantly texting her of his whereabouts, what she and his sisters want from the convenience stores and Mama always make his favourite desserts more often compare to Renata’s apple pies and Sherrie’s matcha cupcakes.
And Lucien has no shame in being spoiled by their Mama.
However, when he steps into the kitchen to witness their Mama re-arranging the dishes in the cupboard for the second time this week, it’s time for Mama to be spoiled in return.
Lucien can’t wait to see her reaction when they spring the surprise tonight.
“Mama? Do you need some help with the plates?” Lucien asked instead of pointing out the fact that Mama has been restless lately. Without waiting for a reply, Lucien has already dropped his duffel bag to walk around the island counter towards her.
“It’s alright, Lucy. I’m nearly done here anyway.” MC wave Lucien’s waiting hands away as she pushes the last stack of plates into the lower cabinet and got up. She shot him a smile but it’s wobbly. “Are you hungry, sweetheart? We still have some leftover dinner from last night that I can heat up real quick. Hang on, just give Mama a second to take it out - ”
“Mama, it’s alright. I know. It doesn’t feel the same without Ren and Cherry.”
MC froze before she got up and smile sadly. The sight made Lucien’s heart clench painfully. “The three of you have always been close to me ever since you were born. Your Father was... many things,” MC grimace but she soldiers on. “But he would never separate your sisters away from me. I’m not sure what to do with myself now that Ren and Cherry are away...”
Sherrie’s voice suddenly pops in Lucien’s head like how Renata enjoys busting through his door without knocking: “Mama needs a distraction. ASAP! Go, go, go!”
Renata interjects after her: “Psst! Try something calming yet engaging. That’ll do.”
Distraction. Right. Lucien can do that for Mama. At least until the surprise tonight.
“Would Mama help me with my origami? I could use some help with filling up my new empty glass jar.” Lucien suggests.
MC blink; didn’t expect Lucien to suddenly ask for an extra pair of hands with his hobby, but she took it in stride. “Uh, sure thing, honey.”
Lucien beams like a blooming sunflower. “I’ll go shower first then. Be right back, Mama!”
“Don’t run in the house, Lucy!” MC reminded him but lets him went upstairs with a small smile. She needs to get out of this funk. While Lucien is freshening up, might as well finish up her chores for the day.
By the time Lucien came back down carrying an empty glass jar and a stack of colourful scented papers and they didn’t waste time to clear the dining table of the bowl of fruits and their cups so they could get to it.
Lucien is remarkably patient. More so than MC or his older sisters - he made sure to slowly show how to fold the paper into stars to his Mama and when she’s confused, he would show her some videos online to help her. As the mother and son gradually fill up the glass jar, Lucien talks about anything and everything under the sun. How everyone in his team at school is helping him ease to the role as the captain of the cheerleading squad, how he’s getting a hang on the new subject material taught in Math class and who’s dating who in his circle of friends.
MC hums and would give an appropriate reply in-between Lucien’s story. Typical teenage shenanigans, albeit, a lot tamer than what she went through but she’ll never get tired of listening to her children’s school life. Yes, even when Renata and Sherrie tried their best to hide whatever blunder they did at times.
It was when Lucien threw a purple star origami into the jar that he suddenly changes the subject. “Oh yeah! By the way Mama, Ren and Cherry said that she has a surprise for you tonight!”
“Oooh, a surprise? I wonder what your sisters are planning.” MC murmurs a bit absentmindedly, too focus on folding the papers. Her eyebrows scrunch in concentration and she would beam proudly when one star came out perfect before tossing it into the jar with a happy hum.
Lucien is relieved. Looks like the distraction works.
They had a simple dinner once the glass jar is filled and once the dishes are done, Lucien hurriedly ushers his Mama into the living room. On the sofa, MC watches Lucien draws the rune on the mirror, bemused at the grin on his face.
When the rune vanishes, MC opens her mouth to greet her daughters. Her open mouth gapes and she could feel the corner of her eyes are suddenly wet when she saw the people on the other side of the mirror.
“Ow! Deuce, you idiot! I told you not to shove me with your elbow!”
“Who are you calling an idiot!? And quit hogging the mirror already!”
“I’m not hogging the mirror! You’re the one who keeps pushing me!”
MC couldn’t help it. She laughs, tears now freely running down her cheeks. Lucien quietly excuses himself to fetch a box of tissue for her.
Her laugh shuts both Ace and Deuce up. “Oh geez, what are you crying for, hah? It’s just us.” Ace said, supporting a bittersweet smile. At that moment, seeing his best friend releases the tension festering inside of him all these years.
“We miss you, Prefect!” Deuce shouted with a sniffle, his eyes are teary as well. He hurries to wipe off the tears with his knuckle. “Miss you so, so much! I’m so glad you’re OK!”
“Are you really though?” Ace interject, he doesn’t even bother to conceal his blatant check on MC’s body. Looking for any sign of injuries or illness.
MC guessed that one of her daughters have told them what happened to her...
But she refused to let thoughts regarding Malleus damper her happy mood. Not when she could finally see her best friends again.
“I’m ok now. We’re... we’re ok.” MC honestly reply with a lightened heart.
The three of them have grown; each of them has their own children now, at this moment, it feels as if they have been transported back to their teenage years all those years ago.
MC realises that she’s truly no longer alone now.
-
And we’ve reached the end of this chapter! I hope you guys enjoyed it!! MC finally meet Adeuce once more, even if it’s just through a mirror. With the three of them together again, there’s nothing they can’t do.
Here are some titbits about Amber Leech’s background:
1. His Unique Magic is called ‘Witness of the Past’
2. His Mum is a beautiful mer Sea Lamprey (if you don’t know what a Sea Lamprey looks like, uh, prepare yourself before you google search them.)
Speaking of Unique Magic, I’ve compiled a list of all the kids with their UMs already. Haven’t decided yet when I’ll post it, but I’m thinking of posting the names as a sort of teaser? Meh, we’ll see how that goes.

Song I Wrote To: “Mustang Kids” by Zella Day
Note: I did end up making this GN. I am going to try and get more GN fics up, but I do tend to write with a more female centered voice and always have, but I am workin on it! Anyone have some tips on writing for Gender Neutral?
------
Daryl didn’t like Jesus, he didn’t trust Jesus, and he definitely didn’t want to meet any more of his people.
However, they needed food and Rick decided to accept the invitation. Daryl kept telling himself that he wasn’t going to play nice with the new people and that this was just going to be a transaction, nothing more.
After rescuing some of Jesus’ people on the road, the group headed into what Jesus had introduced as The Hilltop. Daryl wasn’t thrilled when their people suddenly began pointing spears at them. As soon as Jesus defused the situation, they walked through the tall gates of Hilltop and were surprised to see a semi-thriving community.
The Hilltop was vastly different from Alexandria. It looked as if the community lived more in the past rather than the present. Where Alexandria had solar panels, running water, and modern-day houses, The Hilltop focused on trailers, a blacksmith, and a large Colonial house that stood proudly at the center.
“That's called Barrington House,” Jesus explained, “The family that owned it gave it to the state in the '30s. The state turned it into a living history museum. Every elementary school for 50 miles used to come here for field trips. The place was running a long time before the modern world built up around it. I think people came here because they figured it'd keep running after the modern world broke down. Those windows up there let us see for miles in every direction. It's perfect for security. Come on. I'll show you inside.” Jesus gestured the group forward and they followed, keeping their hands on their weapons.
As everyone moved into the house, Jesus explained more about how they used the former museum and how they planned to grow Hilltop even further to account for the future. As he finished explaining the living situations, a new voice cut into the conversation.
“Jesus. You're back. With guests,” an older man said as he stepped out of a room on the main level. Jesus gave Rick a look that said ‘here we go’ and then turned to pleasantly greet the newcomer.
“Everyone, this is Gregory. He keeps the trains running on time around here,” he introduced. Rick decided to take the high road and go and introduce himself when Gregory cut him off and offered the group a place to wash up. Michonne was wary at first, but eventually, some people took him up on the offer, but not before Rick took Maggie aside and told her that she should be the one to speak to Gregory first.
As Maggie began negotiations with Gregory, Abraham and Daryl stood watch by the front door. While Jesus had been telling the truth about who the man was they saved, the community’s doctor, and that Hilltop was an actual place and not a trap, Daryl had relaxed slightly. However, he was still not dropping his guard completely.
When the front door to Barrington opened, Abraham stood up straighter. As the door shut, Daryl finally got a look at you. Just by the way you stood and examined Abraham, Daryl knew you were someone who held authority.
“You must be the crew that Jesus brought in,” you said, a slight twang to your voice. It wasn’t as thick as most Southerners, but Daryl could tell that you had picked up on the accent from just living down South.
“Abraham Ford,” Abraham introduced. You shook the hand he offered, returning his strong grip with one of your own.
“I’m (Y/N),” you said, “I’m the one behind all the defenses here.”
“I do like someone who can be strategic,” Abraham said with a nod of approval. He then nodded towards Daryl and you turned to greet him, however, you did not offer your hand as his own stayed by his side. “That’s Daryl.” Dixon nodded to you and you returned the gesture with a small smile.
It wasn’t much but it told Daryl that you were attempting to show that you weren’t there to fill them with lead, considering the Glock on your hip. In fact, that was the first gun he had seen since walking through the gates.
“Speaking of Jesus,” you continued, “know where I can find him?”
“He’s with your boss,” Daryl commented.
“Gregory?” you asked and he nodded. You sighed with a roll of your eyes.
“Not a fan?” Abraham asked, easily reading your body language.
“Gregory is an imbecile who thinks he can run this place better than Jesus and I,” you said, lowering the volume of your voice. “Word of advice, listen to Jesus before you listen to our ‘boss’. I’ll talk to him later.” With another nod, you turned on your heel and walked right back out into the sunlit community. Abraham then grinned at Daryl.
“Okay, them, I like.”
------------
After the meeting with Gregory, Maggie and Rick looked at Daryl with a look that said “this isn’t going to be easy”.
Daryl had figured as much. While Gregory thought about a few things, Jesus invited the group to take a turn about Hilltop. After vaguely learning about everything that was going on around the area, Daryl didn’t want to think about having to fight again. He had done enough fighting since Atlanta. However, he also knew that Alexandria was a good thing for them and Rick was willing to do whatever it took to keep their new home.
Daryl walked with Michonne, Rick, Jesus, and Maggie, taking in everything that was going on. He could see Sasha and Abraham ahead of them, their tactical eyes scanning everyone and everything.
“If ya ain’t supposed to have guns,” Daryl said, pulling Jesus from his conversation with Maggie, “why does (Y/N) have one?”
“You met (Y/N)?” Jesus asked.
“They were lookin’ for ya,” Daryl explained.
“Ah, well they’re head honcho around here,” Jesus explained. “They’re former military and they know how to keep us safe. Without (Y/N), this place would have been overrun a long time ago.”
“If you have them,” Maggie said, “why do you still have an issue with whoever is messin’ with you?”
“Our enemies’ guns are bigger,” Jesus said with a sigh. “(Y/N) keeps theirs hidden whenever they come around and only ever takes a shot when it’s absolutely necessary.”
“Secret weapon,” Michonne said with an impressed look.
“More like secret Nuclear Bomb,” Jesus said. Daryl didn’t like the thought of an unknown enemy, nor did he like that The Hilltop was being run by an apparent moron. Gregory reminded him of the Governor but without the intelligence and military-grade weapons.
The mystery threat became very real when a sudden commotion drew Daryl and the others to the main area.
“Ethan, what happened to everybody else? Where's Tim and Marsha?” Gregory was asking a man that had just returned to Hilltop.
“They're dead,” Ethan said.
“Negan?
“Yeah.”
“We had a deal!” Gregory exclaimed. Rick looked at Daryl with wariness, causing the latter to shrug.
“He said it wasn't enough. Was the drop light?” Ethan asked.
“No, of course not,” Gregory said, but Daryl could sense a lie.
“They still have Craig. They said they'd keep him alive, return him to us, if I deliver a message to you.”
“So, tell me,” Gregory urged. Instead of answering the man approached his leader and frowned.
“I'm sorry,” he said before sheathing a blade into Gregory’s abdomen. Chaos ensued after that.
Across the yard, you watched on with an exasperated expression on your bored face. This wasn’t the first time inner fighting had happened and you were honestly tired of it.
You watched as the woman you heard the leader call Michonne, take one of your own to the ground in a single move. Daryl had taken down another who went for Abraham and in a major shock, the leader, you believed his name was Rick, slit open Ethan’s throat.
It wasn’t until the ground was covered in blood that Jesus finally noticed you. “A little help would have been nice,” Jesus said. You pushed off the post you were leaning against and approached the body on the ground.
“Cowboy here had it handled,” you said and then pulled your knife and stabbed Ethan in the head. “Besides, he was an asshole anyway.” Jesus sighed and then helped get Gregory to Dr. Carson. Glancing around at the new people, you weren’t sure what they were thinking.
However, you knew right then that even after knowing Negan, Rick was the scariest man you had ever met. “If it’s any consolation,” you said approaching the bloodied leader, “if it came down to a fight between you and the big bad, my money’s on you.”
---------
Later that night after Jesus had finally explained who Negan was and what the Saviors had done to The Hilltop and other communities, Daryl needed some air.
He walked around the community as Rick and Maggie talked with Jesus, trying to make a plan who would then talk to Gregory. Essentially, Alexandria was willing to take out the Saviors if The Hilltop was willing to share its resources. Daryl was also willing to bet that Rick would throw in a few extra guns if it meant the group got both food and allies.
As Daryl approached the main gate, he saw you standing on the watch post, a pair of binoculars in your hand. He hesitated for a moment before tightening his bow on his back and climbing the ladder.
It wasn’t just that you were a warrior in the new world, but Daryl felt drawn to you because he could sense that you were like him. Someone who had seen horrors before and after the end of the world. It was rare when someone came out harder on the other side rather than breaking down. He respected that greatly.
“Lookin’ for anything in particular?” Daryl asked. Dropping your binoculars you shook your head.
“Never really am,” you explained. “The Dead tend to keep their distance this far from larger plains and forests. As for people, well, they don’t come around since the Saviors put their boots on our necks.”
“Jesus explained who they were,” Daryl said, leaning on the makeshift railing.
“Real sons of bitches,” you said.
“You gonna lead any of yer people in the raid?” Daryl asked.
“I ain’t goin’,” you said, taking a swig from a flask on your hip. You offered it to the archer who shook his head. In the dark of the night, Daryl looked dangerous. You could tell by the way he watched the others around your home that he was a hunter. He may have just hunted animals back before the Turn, but now he had other targets in mind.
“Why not?” he asked.
“I prefer to be on the defense rather than the offense,” you explained. “Especially when it comes to these assholes.”
“Sometimes you gotta do both,” Daryl said. You laughed under your breath. Daryl reminded you of your old Sergeant. He was always telling you similar things when you were in basic and then more so as you moved up the ranks.
“You seem like a smart man, Daryl,” you said and he raised an eyebrow. “Try not to die, will ya? We need people like you.”
“Ya just met me,” Daryl said. “How can ya tell what kind of person I am?” he asked. Your brow furrowed as you thought about his question.
“I’ve known people like you,” you explained. “Survivors.” Daryl nodded and thought about all the survivors he had met and how they were now dead. Shane, Dale, Lori, Beth… he didn’t think it was enough to just survive anymore. Which is why he was willing to go along with the raid, kill as many Saviors as possible if it meant that his family could be safe.
“What about you?” Daryl asked.
“What about me?” you asked, staring out over the dark landscape.
“You a survivor?”
“So far,” you agreed. “I managed to tough it out this long without getting my throat torn out so I suppose that’s a start.”
“Have ya always been here?” Daryl asked, gesturing to Hilltop.
“No, I stumbled across Jesus one day. Needed a place to go, told him I could fight and so he offered me a place to stay for the night. Then, I just never left. Figured someone should be able to keep these people safe and Jesus couldn’t do it alone.”
“Right with his Ninja moves that look like somethin’ from a damn old action movie,” Daryl said with a snort.
“Seen those, have you?”
“Unfortunately,” Daryl sighed.
“He’s a good guy. Knew that the moment I met him.”
“So, yer good at readin’ people, are ya?” Daryl asked and you nodded.
“I am,” you admitted.
“And what’s yer opinion on me?” he asked. You were quiet for a moment and then decided on telling the truth.
“I don’t trust you, any of you. At least, not yet,” you admitted. Daryl seemed happy with that answer and then gestured to the flask. You handed it to him and he took a pull.
“Good,” he said, staring off into the night.
“Though,” you said, “I think you and I are going to get along just fine.”
“Don’t count on it,” he said with a scoff. Smiling at him, you took another pull of your drink, relishing in the subtle burn.
“I never do.”

To Ourselves (Emily Prentiss x Reader) Smut
Summary: Living the life in London with Emily Prentiss, it’s so much sweeter when we both have the day off.
AN: This was part of a fic swap, for Lauren over at @metwatron!  The reader is named Lauren and it’s part of the plot. As a result I’ve kept it in.
I might start writing for Emily Prentiss after this, but this is an exception in terms of the reader’s gender. I write for gender neutral and male readers. Requests are open!

Emily kissing little Sergio goodbye was often one of the sweetest things of my day. She always scooped him up into her arms, kissed his little head then stroked that spot a few times before letting him jump daintily down to the floor.
Then she would usher me through the front door like she’d been waiting on me to leave. I never minded and I didn’t mind today.
The journey was brief, but we still held hands as we walked. Swinging them between us, catching in the gentle breeze, I revelled in her company and the fact that I would get it for the whole damn day. She was looking so pretty with her raven hair loose on her shoulders, darker against the crimson of her tank top beneath the leather jacket. She was just effortlessly cool in the heat of the day. Long strides across the pavement created a beat to a song that was all Emily.
Through security, we were amongst a small crowd filtering into the museum. She had visited before, and so had I. But Emily could never get enough of looking at those exhibits. And I could never get enough of looking at her looking at those exhibits. So, there was no need for a map to get to where we wanted.
“Slow down, babe,” I laughed at Emily’s pace growing faster in eagerness. I almost had to skip to keep up.
Through a narrow corridor and a doorway at the end, we entered the chamber of the stars. Long wide walls stretched far above our heads. Stars and the constellations they constructed were all labelled in a light font that lit up against the navy backdrop. Echoes bounced off walls with other museum patrons exploring the exhibits along the floor, all in awe of the museum’s offerings. The back wall exposed the staircases and landings of each level that led to more rooms, more treasures.
“Babe, we’re blocking the entrance,” Emily nudged me out of my trance.
Quickly we moved aside for a family of five to enter the cavern, and Emily kissed my cheek underneath the enormous metal model of the Earth.
A marble carving of Medusa as she screamed silently for eternity, her snakes coiled around one another, some reaching out and hissing with her. There was a little girl, no older than five, staring up at Medusa. She rose onto her tiptoes and her mouth hung open.
“I bet you were like that when you found out who she was,” Emily teased
“Oh. you know me,” I tilted my head against her shoulder, “Misunderstood and powerful women? That’s my kryptonite.”
In the space travel wing, we found the new model of a craft that had gone to the moon. Emily moved a little quicker and leant on the railing that trapped the model.
“Is it worth never coming back to risk getting inside that thing?” She asked me quietly.
“Hmm, that’s up for you to decide.”
But then she returned her stare to the hatch, peering in to see the seats and all those buttons with a bitten bottom lip and a mischievous glint in her eye
“No, actually, I’m in charge now. Come on, darling,” and I grabbed her hand, tugging her away before temptation got us both thrown out before the big event.
“Right, you’re in charge.”
“Yep, and I say we go onto the next room if we wanna get good seats.”
I had no idea if there were any bad seats in a planetarium. But we sure as hell didn’t get them if there were; our seats were at the perfect angle for us to see the bubble above us.
Emily held my hand from the moment we settled in. She squeezed when the lights dimmed and the planetarium presenter’s voice played over the surround speakers. The whole room spun when the stars began to travel across the screen, mimicking the rotation of the planet.
“I’m dizzy,” I whispered.
Emily’s head leant against mine as she replied, “I feel the same way looking at you.”
My face immediately felt hot. Thank god I was dark.
The narrator’s calm voice walked us through the stories of the stars and their namesakes. Lines joined up to form the constellations we’d seen in the cavern before. We shared laughter with the rest of the crowd at the mention of Orion’s small head representing his lack of brain - Emily’s just that little bit louder than the rest. As it faded, I watched the light reflected cross over the contours her utterly radiant face.
The glow in the room raised to help us adjust to the outside world again. Pinks and oranges like a sunset, it grew brighter at the edges of the dome. Emily and I stayed in our seats a little longer, while everyone else filed out.
Emily’s head rolled around against the seat’s neck rest and she smiled at me, “That was brilliant.”
Our late lunch that we had made together just that morning went down a treat on the only bench left inside the museum. The homemade bread could not control the jam oozing out over the sides when I bit into our sandwiches. We ended up caught in a loop of laughter whenever I looked at her - she made me feel so light.
It was with a gut-wrenching punch that Emily’s phone started to ring. Her face hardened before she answered, “Prentiss.”
I sighed, my hands pushing deep into my pockets as if to hide from the fact that our day off together was not meant to be. But at least we’d been to the planetarium.
“Oh cool, let me just get a pen and paper,” and then, to my surprise, Emily hung up. She put her phone away in her bag before looking up at my bemused expression, “Cold caller.”
“Thank fuck for that,” I embraced her.
Too many times her job had stolen her from our dates. Of course, I respected her work, and her for doing it. But I’m allowed to be a little selfish when it comes to my girlfriend.
Her strong arms wrapped around me, swaying us on our bench. With the smell of her perfume fresh with the jam, I never wanted to let her go.
But I had to. We visited some of the other exhibits. While they all had some level of intrigue, it was hard to stay focused on them when I had Emily besides me. She caught me staring every time. I liked it when she caught me. When we first started dating, I got embarrassed a lot. Emily would always tease me for hiding my sheepish smile away from her.
Now I just kept on looking as long as I wanted.
“You know, I’m not an exhibit,” Emily said the sixth, seventh, maybe eighth time she caught me (I’d lost count).
Now it was my turn to nudge her playfully, “Good thing too; that means I can touch you.”
“You’re such a romantic,” and she wrapped her arms around my waist, our heads together as we looked at the exhibit of raw rubies that matched Emily’s tank top.
Mid-afternoon rolled around on our walk home. The sun had already begun crawling back towards the horizon, basking us in its rays still. Our hands were reunited and swinging just as carefree as before.
Upon entering our flat, Sergio trotted over. His meows bounced with every step, then they made one continuous purr as he twisted around my ankles.
“Hey, buddy,” I lifted him against my shoulder and kissed his fur as he rubbed his head against my cheek.
When I let him go, he did the same to Emily before returning to a patch of sunlight on the sitting room’s carpet. Taking off my shoes at the door, I made my way to our kitchen. It was better to put a dent in the washing up now, than when we would both be so caught up with work that chores were considered a break.
“Is it too early to go to bed?” Emily entered on her tiptoes, her hands linked and stretched far above her head.
I held back the comment on how she was really channelling Sergio’s behaviour right now, “It’s not even four, baby.” And I unpacked the Tupperware from my bag.
Two hands spun me around by my waist and Emily’s lips landed on mine. She groped my thighs, lifting me up onto the draining board. Somewhere to our left, the Tupperware I had been holding clattered on the floor.
I hadn’t even realised how the tap became white noise until Emily turned it off. But my attention was snatched away from our surroundings again when her hand began massaging my scalp, pulling at my hair to keep my head tilted back as she kissed down my neck.
“Baby.” That came out a little less coherent that I intended. I tried again, with little success, “Babe.”
With a lingering kiss on what was almost definitely going to be a hickey, Emily pulled away and looked me up and down, “Have I convinced you?”
“Yes, bed sounds good,” I said quick, breathless.
Before Emily could lift me again, I pulled at that damned red tank top and ripped it over her head. Her hands took off my glasses then grabbed my thighs, carrying me to our bedroom. Emily made sure to kick the door closed; the click in the mechanism confirmed that Sergio could not disturb by simply pushing. I cupped her face to bring it back in for a kiss.
Dropping me onto the bed was part of the routine; there was never really time to waste on formality. So I prepared for the drop in my stomach, ready to hold in the squeal.
But it never came.
Instead, Emily gently lay me down, her body rolling over mine. Just above me, her hair fell and tickled my bare shoulders. I took off my own shirt but arched my back so she could snap my bra off, reaching around for hers at the same time. My hands flattened against her skin as I took the bra off. They dragged over those glorious arms of hers, enjoying each groove of muscle that I found.
When Emily pulled away, that whine I was preparing to hide earlier made a resurgence in my throat. She knelt up between my legs, a hairband suddenly between her teeth as she scooped at her hair. Then she plucked the hairband between her fingers and twisted it around her imperfect ponytail. All this, while she watched me wriggle off my trousers.
I wasn’t sure when, but my hand reached out to cup her breast. Her warm skin grew warmer as I thumbed across her nipple. The sight of her chest releasing a long breath at my touch, god this had to be what she felt like touching me. Sharing that pleasure with her, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Soon she was back to kissing me, our hands pawing at each other’s chests with practised tenderness. We were lost in sighs more often than actually kissing. But that brush of her lips over mine was enticing me to touch her more, and my thoughts weren’t organised enough to think of what else I could do.
Suddenly Emily’s hand was on my neck and squeezing. My lungs instinctively drew in a breath, held it close to my heart where it burned brighter the fire Emily stoked. Her lips on my chest, exhales over the cold spots she’d kissed breathing life into my pleasure. My legs keened into her before spreading wider, dithering between puller her closer or welcoming more of her in. A whinge of indecision fell from my lips.
Emily rubbed her thumb over the hollow of my throat, “You alright there, Lauren?”
All the air was gone. The use of my name, it was so personal, so close yet unexpected, I was utterly thrown and unable to find an answer to her question.
Emily waited patiently for me to gather myself again. In the meantime, she traced a finger up my inner thigh, stopping just before she made it to my sex. With that same finger, she touched around my face, along my jaw, leaning over me to catch my hazy gaze. And I remembered what she was offering me.
My tongue parted my lips, wetting them, “Baby, please.”
And Emily bent down to bite my lip, plucking it between her teeth like a string before she grinned down at me, “Seeing as you asked so nicely…”
She disappeared from my sight but not my body. Her tongue made the first appearance, followed swiftly by her hands parting me open for her availability. She explored each part of me with such loving dexterity, lapping up and down, taking the tip between my lips, sweeping around my clit before curling it up in her mouth. God, that woman knew exactly what made me tick. Her hand was back around my neck to hold me in place, and my hand came on top of hers to keep it there. Those fingertips tingled against my skin. When they applied pressure, they
Whenever I thought I could handle it I would look down at Emily. And she would look at me. Her eyes would crease and I would feel her smile against me before shaking her head as she sucked on my clit. The combination of what I saw and what I felt, it was too much and I would look away again, my head thrown back into the pillow. Then she would kiss my thighs to continue her teasing and drag me away from an orgasm.
The cycle continued, edging me further and further each time.
Even if I tried, I couldn’t count how many times she nearly let me orgasm. As she pulled away from me again, I saw that she was still wearing her jeans, and I finally found my words and grappled with them.
“Those can’t be comfortable for you,” I mumbled, my thighs pressing together in her absence.
It seemed that Emily had forgotten she was wearing them because she stood up quick from the bed, her head tilted as she continued her streak of eye contact. I helplessly watched her tug them down her gorgeous legs with ease, her underwear off simultaneously. She tossed them aside, not even looking to see where they landed.
The moment she was back at my side, cradling my face and looking at me like I was an oasis at the end of her desert trek, I reached between her legs, straight for what she wanted. She was so wet, her time between my legs working her into a frenzy as much as it had for me.
Emily had taken those stars from the planetarium, they danced around in her umber eyes as I touched her like she did me, copying our moves and staring at each other until we couldn’t any more. Her pace was unrelenting, no longer caring about edging.
At last we reached our climaxes together.
It was a burst of pleasure all at once, exploding like a supernova. We rubbed and writhed together to grab at every instance of ecstasy that we gave to each other. The sound from Emily’s mouth as she orgasmed brought me to completion. My body twitched, flinching away from Emily’s fingers then jerking back, an addict for what we brought to each other. I chased that high for as long as I could, not letting the aching of an impending cramp in my hand stop me from getting my girlfriend off.
As she finished on my fingers, Emily fell close beside me. She licked her fingers then undid her ponytail. Her hair fell all curly around her head like a halo on her pillow. Rolling into her warm body, I rested my head on her chest and kissed the side of her breast. Emily shivered. I kissed the spot again. After sucking my fingers clean, they traced down the centre of her chest.
“We left the curtains open.”
Emily looked over to her left. Sure enough, our curtains were parted and the window was ajar. A fresh breeze, bringing the sunset into the room, brushed over us.
“We’re one below the top floor, I think we’re fine,” and Emily kissed the crown of my head.
I closed my eyes, content to stay here for the rest of the day. Then my mind drew attention back to what Emily had said when tempting me with her touch.
“You called me Lauren.”
“That is your name, baby.”
“I know,” I lifted my head up and smiled at her. Emily knew what I was alluding to. My fingers had just reached the scar at the centre of her chest; they fanned out across it, not covering but worshipping the mark.
Trying to keep our bodies together, I moved up and kissed her mouth, pouring every ounce of love I could into the gesture. And I felt it again. That gorgeous smile of hers, it pressed itself against mine and she hummed deliciously. When we parted, I bumped our noses together – just to keep that smile on her face.
“You changed the meaning of the name for me forever, Lauren,” She said softly, pinching a section of my hair and pulling it away from the rest, “Are you ok?”
“Yeah, I’m really good. Are you?”
“Hmm,” She nodded. Her voice caught a little in her throat.
“I’ll be back in a sec,” I pecked her on the cheek before sliding off the bed.
Before she could protest, I stole Emily’s red tank top for my own. Although she had let me know before that me borrowing her clothes couldn’t be farther away from annoying.
I brought her a glass of water from our en-suite. Emily looked so dreamy just laying there on the bed, now wearing her sleep shirt from last night.
“Thanks, baby,” She sat up to receive her drink and returned the kiss on the cheek.
A few sips in, and Emily was back to cuddling me. My arms reached around to her back and I stroked imaginary constellations onto her skin. She asked what I thought about the rubies from the museum, if I preferred them raw like we’d seen or cut like the engagement rings we’d seen on a shopping trip a few weeks ago. I told her I liked both.
Once again, the passage of time became lost to me. At least until my stomach rumbled and I remarked, “As much as I would love to stay and cuddle forever, we should probably make dinner.”
After Emily had tied her hair up again, we kicked the bed sheets into some form of neatness before leaving. Sergio was still basking in the sunlight, moving with it across the carpet. He only left it when he decided to see we were doing in the kitchen – which was following a recipe that one of her old co-workers had sent to her.
The hands that had crushed the garlic beneath her knife brushed my hips as I stirred the pot of homemade pasta.
A gift to our cat, I gave Sergio a nibble of a pasta strand. Then I stuck one end of the spaghetti between my teeth and offered Emily the other with a cheeky grin. It wasn’t really a surprise that, once Emily began eating that strand of pasta, we ended up kissing very quickly.

“I told you the boy was bad news Master,” past you said with way too much pride in their voice for your liking.
“Oh, would you shut up?”
“So you’re me from the future, then?  Tell me, how do you end up travelling time with the likes of that git?”
“Oi, shut your mouth you little-” Douxie put his hand over your mouth, effectively shutting you up for the time being.
“Calm down (Y/N), please,”
Both you and your past self said “No,” in unison.  It would have been funny in literally any other situation, but alas, this was what fate handed to you.
“All of you, silence!  Have you any idea what you’ve done?  I knew my apprentice was an ignoramus, but travelling through time?  Time!”
You felt a very strong urge to scream, but fortunately, Douxie was doing the talking.
“I think we handled ourselves just fine, all things considered.  And technically, it was your idea,”
“Damn right,”
“Well, then, you must have botched it up!  My planning is flawless!”
“For the record, Master, I had nothing to do with this.  He did, which is me, and… ugh!  Time travel, so confusing!”  past Douxie was awake, and you decided right then if anyone said anything else you were going to knock him, your past self, and Merlin unconscious just for some peace and quiet.
“Aah!  The timelines are in complete disarray!”
Oop, that counted as saying something, “They’re about to be in more disarray,”
“Seriously, (Y/N), calm down,”
“Don’t you talk to me… us?  Like that!”  past you was a little confused, but they still had the spirit.  It was the wrong kind of spirit, but spirit nonetheless.  You sighed, knowing that Douxie was right.
“No, (Y/N)?  Me?  Whatever.  He’s right, I just need a second,”
Past you froze in absolute shock while Douxie's past self decided to relish in the fact that you were wrong.
Present Douxie didn’t have a lot of patience for this, “Look, both of you, quiet down for a second.  Master, I can fix this, I swear!”
“Ah-ah, your meddling has already wreaked enough havoc on history!”
“Then surely we can use the time map to change things back, and then it’ll all be as it was,”  Archie said as you, your Douxie and the familiar surrounded Merlin, your focus on the time map in your former master's hands.
“It doesn’t work that way.  The map only offers glimpses of possible futures!  There are no detailed instructions,”
“Oh come on, it’s not that bad,”  Douxie said, reaching towards the device before Merlin slapped his apprentice’s hand away causing both of your hands to sting.
“Ow.  Look, life doesn't come with instructions, and we live through it every day without causing too much damage.  We can manage this!  It’ll be fine,”
“Not that bad, eh?  It’ll be fine, eh!?”  Merlin said before revealing just what the time map had to show you.
King Arthur was on the ground, dead.  Needless to say, that was not good.
“Oh, fuzzbuckets,”  Both Douxies and your past self said.
“Oopsie,” you grimaced at the consequences of your actions.
“Your little dungeon break must have changed fate!  Now, unless I stop it, the king will die!”
Merlin stormed out of the room, off, probably, to fix your mistakes.  Beside you, your Douxie groaned, bracing himself against the table.  You put a hand on his shoulder in an attempt to comfort him.
“Seriously, how can you stand to touch him?”
It was your turn to groan.  You didn’t even look at your past self as you responded, “Because he is my friend and I care about him,”
It may have been a risky statement, one that could doom both you and your wizard, but the smile on Douxie’s face was worth it.
“I don’t understand, how can you-”
Douxie cut off his past self, “You’ll understand when you’re older.  Now, you two stay here, we have to go,”  he grabbed your hand, and you left to find Claire or anything else that would help save the future.  Whichever came first.
It was Claire.  Claire came first.  You could hear the knights cheering from your place in the shadows.  The noise was a decent cover-up for your conversation.
“They’re hunting Jim!  If they catch him, he’ll be killed!”
“I know, and he’s not the only one.  Because of us, Arthur’s now fated to eat the big one, too!”
“Eat the what?  Oh, no, was I supposed to bring food?”
“He’ll be eating a death sandwich, Steve,”
“Ugh, who would eat that?  Gross,”
Douxie groaned, but you couldn’t help but laugh a little.  Times were tough, but that didn’t stop you from admitting that Steve absolutely had a point.
“Look, if Arthur dies, we lose the Battle of Killahead and the war,”
“Which will probably mess up time so much, you’ll never be able to return home,”  Archie said, pawing his way around your hiding space.
“At least, not our home,”  you glared at the ground, as if the dirt was the reason the world was at stake.
“Oh no!  Toby!”
You looked up at the time map just in time to see the War Hammer disappear into a blue mist.  That could not be a good sign.
“What’s happening to him?”
“The future- our future, is vanishing!”
“There’s gotta be a way to fix this,” you said, using the time map, searching through time to find something that would save your home.  Among the red, there was a moment of blue.  You paused as an image of Arthur and Morgana getting along flashed into the sphere.
“What’s that?”  Claire asked before you had the chance to ask the same thing.
“Well, that wasn’t there before.  It’s a new timeline, one where Arthur and Jim live,”
“And Morgana’s the hero?  I thought she was destined to become Mistress Doom,”
“No, you’re thinking Mistress of all Dark Magic.  Mistress of Doom is… something else,”
“What?”  Douxie paused, looking at you with vast amounts of suspicion.
“You’d be surprised by some of the house calls I’ve made.  Now, keep talking,”
Douxie shook his head, but he was smiling.  Good.  You loved that smile.
“It looks like there’s a possibility if we get Arthur and Morgana to reconcile, then somehow, nobody dies,”
“I don’t think I have to say that that’s the outcome we want!”
You took a moment just to look at Douxie’s face.  In this small moment of victory, which was over too soon, he looked happier than you’d seen him in a while.  Of course, you never saw his face when he looked at you.
“Squire Steve!  We are all thirsty!”  and bam, moment over.  Thanks, Gallahad.
“I’ll keep an eye on Morgana.  Douxie, you work on Arthur.  (Y/N), Steve, make sure they don’t kill my boyfriend,”
“We’re on it.  Don’t die out there, guys,”
“We won’t,” Douxie said, taking one last look at you before he ran off.  You and Steve did the same.
About a minute in, you could feel things going wrong.  Your chest hurt as if you’d crashed to the floor.  It wasn’t awful, so you ignored it and kept moving forward, following Steve and the knights and making a mental note to make sure Douxie was ok when you had time.  A smirk made its way onto your face when said wizard knocked his past self out.  You couldn’t imagine that it was good for him, but if he could still perform magic, he was ok.
And after that, things were okay.
At least for you.
Douxie was having a difficult time getting Arthur to listen to him.  Magic, as always, turned out to be a useful tool.  The king and his sister began their reconciliation, but something was troubling him.  He saw the way they looked at the illusion of Gweneviere.  They had both loved her.  Arthur even called Gwen “the heart of him,” and they had lost her.  He could see the grief on their faces, how it killed the king and weighed down the sorceress was clear to anyone who looked at them the right way.
This was not the first time Douxie contemplated his fear of losing you.  He’d been afraid of that for a long time, and one could say that he was used to the familiar sense of anxiety that made itself at home within him whenever you were in danger.  But now?  Now he looked at the faces of the royal family and realized that losing you would completely destroy him.
Douxie was already a selfless person, one who would sacrifice everything he was to save the world, but right then, he decided that he would sacrifice the world to save you.  You were the world to him.
But he couldn’t focus on that right now.  He had a job to do.
So did you.  And Steve was not making it any easier.
“Kill the beast!”
“Wait, kill?  I thought this was catch and release!”
“Oh, my g- ok, come on, Steve,”
You grabbed the boy by his armour and dragged him along as you followed the group, stopping dead when you reached the troll that the guards spoke of.
Arthur’s men had slung chains around the creature, restricting its movement to next to nothing.  You were not okay with this.
“Squire Steve, will you do the honours?”  Lancelot asked, tossing his sword to the boy.
The boy whimpered, very obviously uncomfortable with this.  He turned to you, eyes desperately searching for instructions on what to do in this situation.  You shook your head, trying to get across that needless murder should probably be avoided.
Whether or not Steve got the message, you would never know.  The troll jumped at the teen.  You jumped in front of him, creating a shield with your magic, and Arthur jumped in front of you, swinging a sword at the troll and putting himself in some pretty needless danger.  You couldn’t talk on that subject though.  When it came to needless danger, you were freaking royalty.
“Careful, young squire, witch,” he spat out your title like it was a curse, “Show these beasts no sympathy,”
He kicked the troll into the sunlight, turning it to stone instantly.  You looked on with disappointment as the guards cheered.
Behind you, Steve whimpered again.  You turned, hoping to provide some comfort, or calm the kid down at least, when you froze, your blood running cold.  Behind Steve stood Bular, aka the Troll who kept trying to kill you.
“Shit,”
The Gumm-Gumm prince knocked Steve aside, advancing and attacking the guards.  He hadn't noticed you yet, and you intended to keep it that way, staying out of the troll's field of view, and going after Steve instead.  You helped the boy up and off the ground.  He wasn't injured, but you realized that the king was about to be.
Before you could do anything, Douxie and Merlin had things under control, saving Arthur and taking out the troll prince.  You breathed a sigh of relief.  If things went well, Bular wouldn’t see you.  Very few things ever went well, but you had your fingers crossed.
And it worked!  For once, things went your way.  Arthur knocked the Gumm-Gumm out with a kick to the face.  Sure, he said some very menacing and antagonistic things right after, but you had no thoughts in your head other than, “Well, that was convenient,”
You watched the guards take Bular away, taking note of Morgana questioning who the real monster was.  If Bular hadn’t tried to kill you and your friends and hadn’t successfully gotten you tortured a couple decades ago, you might have agreed with that.  Unfortunately, he had.
You hadn’t realized that you’d lost yourself in memories until Douxie said your name.
“-(Y/N), are you alright, love?”
“I-” you watched them take the troll out of sight, “I will be,”
Your wizard took one of your hands, squeezing it, “I’m right here if you need me,”
“I know,”
It was silent for a moment.  Then you heard the knights calling Steve.
“I should go,”
“You don’t have to if you don’t want to,”
“But I should.  Someone needs to make sure that kid doesn’t run into any more high ranking Gumm-Gumms,”
Douxie seemed hesitant, but he respected your choice, “Stay safe,”
“You too,”
From the corner of her eye, Morgana watched you and Douxie.  She wasn’t focused on it, per-say, but she did find it odd.  Were Merlin’s apprentices not constantly at each other’s throats?  She ignored it for now and moved on.
Things went decently for you after that.  The forest was peaceful, the knights were quiet.  Everything was chill until Steve decided to walk through a trap.  You weren’t sure why he didn’t just stop.  Kids these days, honestly.
You winced as the arrows hit his armour and his skin.  Beside you, Gallahad and Lancelot were absolutely losing their shit.  You had to admit, it was kind of funny, but you were also concerned for your friend.  You put up a shield around him, sheltering the teen from any further arrow-related damage.  Needless to say, the knights were very disappointed.
“Oh, come on, now!  Don’t spoil all the fun,”
“It was fun for the first minute.  Now I’m concerned for his health,”
“Really?  Merlin’s witch apprentice showing concern?  Well then, we’ve found something rarer than the holy grail!”
You took a moment, keeping up your shields as the king and his guards moved through the trap, Lancelot and Gallahad now supporting Steve.
It was weird to see how much you’d changed.  Talking to your past self had been surreal, and a decent reminder of what a little shit you had been, but you hadn’t considered the specifics.  Past you was a scared kid doing what their king told them to.  Under Gunmar, you didn’t have any interests or hobbies outside of getting stronger and staying alive.  Even after you left, you really didn’t start to become who you were now for a few centuries.  You'd been scared that the Gumm-Gumms would come for you at any moment, and that fear wouldn't leave you until at least the fifteen hundreds.  You suddenly felt enormous amounts of guilt weighing on your shoulders.  Guilt about what you’d forced your past self to go through, that you never got a childhood worth having, that you hadn’t been a person for so long that it took centuries to take a real interest in something.  And you felt guilty about how you’d treated other living things.  You knew now that everyone who could be saved deserved saving, but the child you were in the twelfth century didn’t know that.
But you couldn’t fix the past, even though you were now reliving it.  The only thing you could do was forgive yourself.
And so you did.
Then you ran after the knights to see if Steve was okay.
He was.  Teenagers are surprisingly resilient, that’s how they can do dumb things and not die.  You counted Steve coming out of that trap mostly unscathed as a win.  What wasn’t a win was Lancelot spotting Jim and Callista, looking at what appeared to be Jim’s phone.
You had no idea if that would affect the space-time continuum, but what would affect you personally was your friends getting shot.  And Lancelot was aiming a crossbow at them.  Great.
Beside you, you could hear Steve’s internal panic.  This time he didn’t turn to you, instead, he chose to act, smacking the crossbow out of the knight’s hands.  The arrow still fired, but there was still time.  You put a spell on the arrow, knocking it off course a little more and lessening the impact.  However, there was still an impact.  You could hear as much from the trolls below you.
Lancelot lined up another shot, but Steve knocked the weapon aside again, and you used your magic to push the crossbow out of reach.  It didn’t do much, but it bought your friends some much needed time.  The knight thrust the crossbow at Steve, clearly frustrated.
“What if we just let this one go?”  Steve’s efforts were admirable, you’d give him that much
“You never let them go,”
Lancelot turned away from you to face the king, who was rallying his soldiers.
You put a hand on Steve’s shoulder, “Hey, you did a good thing, kid,”
“Thanks, (Y/N),” Steve’s voice shook slightly, and you felt awful.  If you had time, you probably would have hugged him, told him everything was going to be okay, and maybe adopted him, but right now, you had to find some way to protect Jim.
The knights ran off, leaving you and Steve watching them go.
Douxie and Merlin came out of the bushes, clearly in pursuit of the king.  They called out to him before running off again.
“C’mon Steve, we have to follow them,”
The boy, who was still shaken, nodded, following behind you as you ran after everyone else.
Things were not going well.  Morgana and Arthur were fighting, knights were surrounding the area, and Lancelot was firing arrows at children.
Claire was skilled enough to fend for herself, scaring Lancelot, but before the knight could say anything that everyone would regret, Steve knocked him out with a large rock.  You were a bit surprised, but also very pleased.
“Whoa, man, that troll- that came out of nowhere!  Right guys?”
Lancelot woke, only for Steve to hit him again.  You were very proud.
“Nice one, Steve!”
“Thanks!  Uh, can you do your doctor thing?  Make sure I didn’t kill him?”
You kind of doubted that Lancelot had been killed by the rock, but head trauma exists in every century, so you nodded and began your assessment.  You managed to focus up and do your work, ignoring the clanging metallic noise of the battle before you.  Then the pain hit you.  It was like you’d been thrown back into a tree, but that hadn’t happened, so what was- Douxie!
You rushed your assessment, focused on the ache in your spine, “He isn’t dead, Steve, you’re in the clear,”
The teenager punched the air, saying something that you weren’t paying attention to.
“Sorry, kid, I’ll be right back,”
That was kind of a lie.  You weren’t sure when you’d be back.
You made your way to Douxie’s side, helping him up as Morgana sent a beam of gold magic into the sky, before bringing it down on the earth like a whip.  Your wizard pulled you close to him, trying to shield you from the magic.  Had she been paying attention, Morgana would have declared this officially strange, but at the moment she was fighting her brother and former mentor.
You, Claire and Douxie thought it would be a good idea to try and reason with the angry sorceress.
“Stop!  We found another way!”
“It doesn’t have to be like this!”
“We can do this peacefully!”
“The time for peace ended long ago,”
“Morgana,” Claire called out, “He’s not the enemy,”
Morgana continued to rant, but you were a little distracted by the fact that she was now flying.  It wasn’t the best choice either of you had made, but you and Douxie got closer, just in time for the sorceress to cast a spell, creating shadow-like clones of herself.
“Oh, buckets,”  Douxie said as shadow-clones appeared before all of you.
“Yeah, that,”  you drew your sword.  There wasn’t much left to do but fight.
Unfortunately, you were in the minority when it came to having a weapon.  You watched as your friends struggled and dodged, eventually backing away, but wherever they went the shadows followed (as shadows are wont to do.)
Your small group found their way to a cliff, overlooking the ocean.  You recognized this place, but you weren’t sure how.
You could hear Merlin call for someone to protect the king, but you were a little busy fighting for your life at that moment.
Somehow, you found an opening and sliced through the clone.  You only enjoyed your victory for a moment before Douxie was thrown to the ground, causing you both to wince from the pain.  You were about to make your way over to him when Arthur pointed his sword towards the sky, drawing a spell into the blade and releasing it into the ground, knocking everyone back and banishing the shadow-clones.
Douxie helped you up before you both ran to get the time map.  The sphere flickered from red to blue.  You looked out into the sunset and suddenly realized where you recognized this place from.
Morgana’s name left your lips and Douxie’s at the same time.  The time map’s sphere showed the sorceress’s body.
You and your wizard ran towards the duelling siblings in a last attempt to stop them, but you were once again blown back.
You screamed as Morgana fell off the cliff for the second time in your life.
You couldn’t remember walking back to the castle.
You knew you must’ve done it because you would remember being carried back, but you didn’t know how you got from the cliff to Camelot.
And now Claire was talking, “She’s gone.  We failed,”  as if you needed reminding.
“No,” Douxie’s voice came from beside you, “I failed.  Master, I-I’m so sorry,”
“This is why you don’t meddle with time,”
You didn’t even sass Merlin about how this was his idea.  You were out of sass at the moment.  Your head was full of static as you tried to process things.
“But I tried, I tried to fix it,” Douxie fell to his knees, his eyes on the still flickering time map.
Correction, your brain was full of static and heartbreak.  You knelt beside your wizard, putting your hands on his shoulders as he focused on the time map.
“Don’t you see, boy?  There is no ‘fixing’ anything,  Every change has consequence.  Knowing the future is a responsibility to bear with caution, lest you cause the worst things to happen,”
You couldn’t look Merlin in the eye.  Even as he walked away, you didn’t watch him go.
“Morgana’s dead, Excalibur's broken.  This never happened,”
“We are in uncharted territory,” Archie said, coming closer to you and Douxie, allowing the wizard to pat him.
The pain in your chest was his.  The utter anguish he felt over failing to fix things stabbed through you.  And it wasn’t just that.  He had failed Claire, and Steve, and Jim.  He had failed Merlin, and Toby and Camelot.  But the worst thing was he had failed you.  He had destroyed your future, and now you were stuck here.  The very thought of it ripped through him, and you felt all of it.
You bit your lip, just then realizing what that day was.
As if he realized what was to come, Archie took a few steps back, wandering away from the two of you.
“Hey, Doux,” he turned to look at you, the sorrow in his eyes eating you alive, “This was the night.  In our timeline, anyway,”
“What?”
“Where was that fight again?  Merlin’s study?  The staircase?  The throne room?”
“(Y/N)?”
“If we wait outside, do you think we’ll see it happen?”
The pieces fell into place for him, too.
“I don’t even know if it will,”
You waited a moment.
“Who knows.  We hated each other enough, we might still get cursed,”  The joking tone in your voice made you both smile, even though it didn’t reach your eyes.
“Seriously, though, Douxie.  I think whatever bond Merlin gave us, I-” you took a deep breath, knowing that what you said next would definitely damn you both.  But that didn’t matter.  He needed to hear this.
“I think it was the best thing that ever happened to me.  You are the best thing that ever happened to me,”
Douxie looked surprised, only for a second, before his eyes cast their gaze to the ground, to the time map that sat closed on the floor.  “Are you sure?”
His voice was so quiet you barely heard him, and it was so sad, so scared, that you could feel your heart shatter into a million pieces right then and there, “Yeah,” your voice felt like it would break at any minute, “Yeah, I’m sure,”
Your predictions were correct.  Your voice broke and tears came to your eyes, much to your embarrassment.
“(Y/N),” Douxie turned his body towards yours, taking your face in his hands, “You-” he took a second, also feeling that his voice would fail him at any minute, “You mean everything to me, and I-I ruined your future.  We don’t have a home to go back to, and it’s my fault, I-”
“Douxie,” you cut him off, “As long as I’m with you, I’m home.  If we have to, we’ll just build a new future, together,” you ran a hand through his hair.  This was it.  This is what was going to kill you, “I love you, Hisirdoux Casperan,”
There was silence.
And then his lips were on yours.
Do you remember the kiss in the 80s?  Yeah, that was child’s play compared to this.
Your lips fit together perfectly,  his hands glided over your back, pulling you closer to him.  Your hands held his face, swiping away at the tears that threatened to fall.  You found your bottom lip captured between his.  A gasp escaped you when he bit down.  It wasn’t enough to draw blood, but it was enough for your heart to race a little faster, if that was even possible, and tighten your grip just a little.  You could almost feel his pulse racing, and you were absolutely certain he could feel yours.  Your last kiss had been everything in your past, but this kiss was your future.  It was a promise that no matter what came next, you would face it together.
And then you remembered exactly what it was that your future held.
T'was a mood killer.
You broke the kiss, almost unwillingly and definitely wanting more, but Douxie had been right.  He should know what, “I don’t want to kill you anymore,” meant.
Also, there was a loud crash and bright lights from one of the towers, and that was pretty distracting.
“Those damn kids.  Did we really fight so much?”
That almost got a laugh from you, but you had something else to focus on right now.  You rested your forehead against his for a moment, just breathing for a second before your spoke, your voice low, “Douxie, I have to explain some stuff,”
“What is it, darling?”
“You were right, there’s some stuff you should know.  Doux, I think now is later,”
You bit your lip before standing and motioning for him to follow you into the castle, “Let’s go,”

Chapter One.
Even after the defeat of Calamity Ganon, the world remained paranoid. So many times had they defeated the evil, and so many times had it come back. The legends melted away after the fall of the champions one hundred years ago, and the citizens of Hyrule could no longer turn to them for guidance.
So, they turned to you.
From a very young age, you always knew something was different. You could never quite place or understand the feeling, but sometimes when making important decisions or choosing what to say, a gentle prodding made its way up your skull. ‘This one! This is right, this is the way.’ Echos of affirmation in an oddly familiar voice that no one else could hear. But, it always seemed to help those in need, so you were keen to listen.
One day, when you were no older than ten years old, your parents had a stranger come into the house. She wore all white, with a thin veil covering her eyes. She met your gaze, and you knew.
You were the same. On some level deep down you resonated with each other. You had something in common that was so engrossed in who you were that it sent shivers through your body. The voice reverberated louder, calling her to you and you to her. She stretched out her hand, palm up, and you put yours in hers. A bright light swallowed you, and everything became clear. You finally knew.
You were an Oracle.
—————
You sat in Hyrule castle, at the left hand of the Queen. Your robes were loose and light, that same white color as the woman who gave you your answer nearly a decade ago. You kept your head bowed as Queen Zelda addressed her court, Link at her right. They were currently discussing the reconstruction of Hyrule, what with a century of abandonment to many of its cities and people. Ever since this meeting had begun, there had been a buzzing in the back of your skull. It spread around your scalp and pulsed at your temples, but you fought back the urge to put your head into your hands. You were currently surrounded by the ambassadors of the different domains and remaining civilizations, you had to remain proper. Besides, it was most likely just a headache from staying awake long into the morning hours with Zelda, reading and studying about the years that had transpired while she was trapped with Ganon, and before you were born.
Zelda often keeps you and Link by her side. While you had known the Queen for a significantly less amount of time than the champion had, you had bonded over the shared burden of having a divine power bestowed upon you from a young age. In your time with Link, he had taught you simple defense maneuvers. As the Oracle, almost all of your concentration had to be in the present, focusing on harnessing any sign or signal you could grab onto to help decipher the coming days or even years. He fretted enough about Zelda not being able to fight on her own, but now that he had two incredibly important people to guard, he felt he was going to have a heart attack. You weren’t given a weapon- many were too heavy or didn’t sit right in your hands, with the added fact that you really weren’t supposed to wield anything that could hurt you in return (keeping your body whole was apparently a big part of the job). Link taught you pressure points and how a two-fingered jab to the right place could bring even Lizalfols to the ground. He promised he’d be at your back in an instance, but it made him and you more confident with some experience under your belt.
The buzzing grew louder and stronger with every passing minute, and you shifted to tuck your feet in on the seat of your chair to ball yourself in tighter. The haze that normally accompanied oncoming migraines wasn’t present, so you shoved it aside and blamed it on exhaustion. You tried to listen past the incessant noise, and to Zelda’s words.
“Even with Ganon defeated, some of the Malice it left behind continues to scorch the land. It isn’t hard to combat, but we will need a large group to cover all of the domains.” Zelda spoke, fingers interlaced atop the table. “Link recommended a force of five for each pool, as some of them can build and expel monsters out of nowhere.” Link nodded at her side, arms folded across his chest. He brought his hands forward to speak, fingers fluttering.
“They aren’t difficult and won’t do much damage to your person- but they are quiet. It’s always helpful to have someone watching your back.” He signed, an interpreter relaying his words towards the other end of the table. The ambassadors nodded, and a Zora woman raised her hand to speak.
“We have stationed guards along different trade routes to ease the journey of the travelers coming to our domain, and there have been reports of Malice pools growing from the ground. I believed they were isolated to the Divine Beasts and to the different shrines and towers. Do you know why they are coming about?”
You looked up to her, and a lump caught in your throat. The way herred scales glimmered in the remaining sunlight was painstakingly familiar, and the more you looked the more the lump grew. It had been the only time you’d raised your gaze the entire meeting, and she- as well as some other ambassadors- took notice. She met your gaze and offered a small smile.
And that’s what did it.
You let out a sharp gasp and clutched at the fabric in front of your chest, all the pain in your head suddenly shooting down to your heart. It felt like something was strangling the organ, a tight grip that squeezed and pulled and hurt. Your vision began to black out as you heard voices all around you. Someone put their hand on your shoulder and another barked at them to stop, leave them be!
The pain in your chest spread through your shoulders and back, down your spine and arms and back up to your skull. Your throat burned like you had been swallowing saltwater and nausea crept into your belly. You saw red, a bright crimson in your peripheral vision fading into blue, into brown. You heard the roar of a Divine Beast and felt it’s anguish. The ground shook with it’s fury and your vision cleared. You looked up and found yourself in the Zora domain, soaked through and surrounded by fleeting citizens. You stayed still, watching in awe as Vah Ruta rampaged through the domain, the marble and stone cracking beneath its feet. It stomped over the throne and it crumbled beneath its weight like a mushroom. The water at your bare feet turned red and sticky with blood, and Vah Ruta turned its massive head to you.
You met its eyes as its trunk lifted high into the air, a ball of energy building between its tusks. You were frozen in place, fear rooting you in your spot as you stared down a machine that easily aided in the defeat of Calamity Ganon. It whirred menacingly and fired at you. The screams and cries silenced, there was nothing left but the beam. Blue and white flooded your vision, then red again. So much red that it faded into black, only two glowing eyes remained. Ganon’s eyes. It gurgled in the silence and unhinged its mouth, pure Malice dripping onto the floor and onto you. You cried out as it burned your hands, and you watched in horror as it spread up your arms and chest. You were covered in Malice- no, the entire world was covered, infected, and dying slowly beneath the surface. And all it took was one pool near the far terminal in Vah Ruta. You blinked the pain away as you traveled with the Malice, one with it now. You saw it tearing apart wires and cogs beneath the surface, reworking the machine to how it saw fit. All it took was one beast, and the world would decay.
Something grabbed your wrist and pulled you from the Malice, and when you crumpled with exhaustion they caught you. They held you and rubbed your back as you sobbed into their shoulder. A hand pressed between your shoulder blades and warmth followed.
Look at your hands, they said into your ear. A girl’s voice, a slight lilt underneath her tone. It’s going to be okay, you can go home.
You brought your hands into your vision, and saw the Malice fading away along with a soft blue light. You peeled away from her shoulder and looked into the eyes of Mipha. Her expression was tense and filled with worry.
If Vah Ruta loses control, then the world will crumble. She spoke softly, taking your hands into hers. I am afraid I won’t be able to calm her, please- tears pricked at her eyes and trailed down her cheeks.
Find my brother.
You open your eyes to find yourself on the floor. The light burned your eyes, and the shape of Zelda above you was blurred and fuzzy. She called out your name in relief, helping you sit up.
“Are you alright- what happened? Do you need a medic!?” She fretted, and you shook your head. Your hands were also shaking, and you would guess your entire body was trembling by the way the ambassadors were looking at you. They stood at a distance, and you learned why as you looked up at Link. He was stood up with his back to you and Zelda, sword drawn and in a slight crouch. You guessed when you collapsed the ambassadors and guards rushed to your aid, only to be stopped when the Champion took your guard. You would have to thank him later, but there were more important matters.
Ignoring Zelda’s questions and worries, you leaned up and grabbed Link’s hand. He spun around immediately, eyes wide. He knelt to your level, hand never leaving his sword.
“We- we need to-“ Your voice shook as you stuttered, and groaned in frustration as the words almost refused to come out of your mouth. Link’s eyes were patient, but you looked down to break his gaze. “Vah Ruta, the Domain- we need to go there, immediately.” You sucked in a breath as you tried not to hyperventilate, panic seeping into your skin as you remembered the blood-slick floors. “Vah Ruta is going to loose control and- and attack the Domain.”
Gasps of shock rang throughout the room, and tension quickly began to build. The ambassadors rushed to speak to each other.
“Vah Ruta? But didn’t the Queen fix it after the Calamity!?”
“My home- my domain! What are we going to do?”
“How is this happening? Is it an omen?”
A Rito ambassador knelt beside Link, who gave him a side eye and clutched the sword tighter. The bird took no notice, all of his attention on you.
“Will the remaining Beasts also rampage? Do we need to be prepared as well?” He demanded, panic thick in his voice. Before you could answer, his panic was well shared.
“The rest of the Divine Beasts?! Oh, Goddess!”
“If Vah Naboris rampages again, Gerudo Town will crumble!”
“Oracle, what did you hear- what did you see!?”
“Please, what is going to happen?”
“Are we doomed again? Is Ganon coming back-“
“Enough!” Zelda cried, standing sharply as her voice cut through the room. They all turned to face her, wide eyed and scared. She took a breath and smoothed out her dress before addressing them again.
“The gift of Foresight is an exhausting one, please allow them to collect themselves before answering your onslaught of questions! Clearly it was a traumatic experience, as they were shaking and sobbing not minutes ago!” She declared, and you felt heat rush to your cheeks. Shaking and sobbing? Oh, what a first impression on some of the most important people in the four domains. Zelda held out her hand to you, snapping you out of your embarrassment and helped you stand. Her hand then came to your shoulder and turned you away from them and across the room. She waved for Link to follow. She held both of your arms as she walked to face you directly, Link at her shoulder.
“Alright,” She said, sighing. “Honestly, they had no right swarming you like they did.”
“It’s alright, your Highness. I’m sure I would do the same in their position, hearing something as startling as a Divine Beast losing control and running through a domain.” You folded your hands and held them near your stomach, trying to ground yourself. “I should go and explain my vision, they need to-“
“No,” Link signed, his first two fingers and thumb pinching together. “They will only stress you out more, you’re already unwell.”
“But they need to know! We need to travel to the Domain as soon as possible!” You furrowed your brow as you spoke. “It’s going to happen soon, and the Zora need to-“
“That’s why I will tell them, and you go rest as much as you can.” Zelda said calmly, rubbing your arm in a soothing motion. “Tell me what you saw, and I’ll relay the information so you and Link can start getting ready. You’ll leave first thing in the morning.”
“You won’t be coming?” Link asked, and Zelda shook her head.
“Hyrule still needs a leader. I can talk to you both through the Slate, and offer any assistance you may need.”
You bit at the corner of your lip. The air felt heavy and your chest was still tight from the lingering effects of your vision. Zelda was right though, as she always was. You needed to prepare.
“...alright,” You whispered, and they turned back to you. “If you’re sure.”
“Of course. Now sit down and give me just a moment.” Zelda led you back to where you were sitting before and you eased yourself onto the cushion. You tucked into yourself as the ambassadors looked at you, feeling like a luminous stone at midnight under their gaze. Zelda gathered their attention and began to explain what would happen, that they should return to their rooms until called down to hear the explanation, and Link stood in front of you.
“You have no reason to be nervous, it will just be me and Zelda.”
“I’m not nervous.” You countered, looking up at him. “I’m just-“
“You are, and it’s okay.” He interrupted, and your mouth clipped shut. “There’s nothing wrong with it, but I want you to know you’ll be safe. I’d never let anything near you that wasn’t welcome.”
“I saw that earlier,” You chuckled, and a soft smile spread across Link’s face as well. “You had your sword out and everything, it’s like you were staring down a hoard of Bokoblins.” You playfully jabbed at his stomach, which he sidestepped with ease.
“It almost was, you should’ve seen the Gerudo. She almost grabbed you herself.” You giggled a little, covering your mouth. When your laughter subsided, you looked at him seriously.
“Thank you. For- for always protecting me. I’m sorry if I put any more stress on you, you deserve a break after fighting the calamity.” He waved you off, scoffing slightly.
“Believe me, this is a vacation. I can’t stand still for the life of me, much less take a vacation. Can you imagine me, relaxing? It doesn’t fit right.” He made a face of disgust and stuck his tongue out. You smiled fondly.
“You’re right, it doesn’t. But any moment you need to take a break or even just sleep in a little longer, do so. I don’t want you burning yourself out on my account.”
“I think I took enough of a nap when I was in the Shrine of Resurrection, don't you think?”
You shrugged, not knowing exactly what to say in response. Link was stubborn, and getting him to budge on anything was hard, but especially hard when it came to his health. You have had small blips of visions where Link was bleeding profusely or otherwise severely wounded but he kept going. You knew he would get nightmares of the calamity as you would get them too. Part of the glamorous life of an Oracle was near magical empathy, you could see and hear what someone was going through and live in that struggle. It wasn’t something you loved, in fact sometimes it felt like an invasion of privacy, but sometimes it led to you helping those you cared for. You had talked to Link about his dreams and he opened up to you a little. The burden was worth it in the end, but you wished you could do more. Link and you continued to chat softly, and soon enough Zelda came back. Her smile was strained, and you swallowed hard.
“So,” She began, clearing her throat. “They aren’t exactly thrilled with the fact that it won’t be coming from you directly, but they will live on” She looked back to where the door was swinging shut, the ambassadors now being escorted to their respective chambers. Hyrule Castle was one of the first things to be rebuilt, and more rooms and space was added for Hylian citizens to seek shelter in while the Kingdom was being rebuilt. It truly was a beautiful building, now that it was reformed to its proper glory.
“Are you ready? We can take this slow.” She asked, and you nodded. She brought out her Sheikah Slate and opened a feature that allowed her to take notes, and looked to you to begin.
“I- I was in the Zora domain. They were all fleeing rapidly, and shoving past me. Normally, when I have these visions, I can phase through what I need to in order to find what I need, but-“ Your hands shook again, and you squeezed them together. “I was really there, I felt them knock into me. It’s never been like that before.
“Many were injured, some were dead, but no one was stopping. I looked up and Vah Ruta was in the domain, thrashing about and destroying many of the pillars and making its way to the throne room, where I was.”
“It wasn’t in the dam anymore? How could that happen?” Link asked, bewildered. You shook your head.
“I don’t know. I only saw it coming towards me, and then it-“ You held onto your neck, pressing into your muscles to ease the tension. “It fired it’s laser- the one it shot at Ganon. I think I- I might’ve died, there.”
Zelda clapped a hand over her mouth. The scalding hot feeling faded back into your chest where Vah Ruta had aimed, and you cleared your throat.
“Then, when the world went dark, I was a part of the malice. I saw it corrupting the inside of Vah Ruta before Mipha pulled me out and healed me. She said she could no longer rein in the Beast, I think she’s been struggling for a while. Then-“ You looked up at Link, who met your gaze with an intense expression.
“Then she told me to find her brother. I don’t know why, but when the Zora ambassador talked about Malice pools growing, that’s what shot me into the vision. I think- I think she’s right. I was a part of the Malice after Vah Ruta shot me, so that means-“
“Others might be too.” Zelda finished. “Those who were slain might have gotten sucked into the Malice and developed with it, that’s why it’s getting stronger.” She faced away for a moment, lost in thought. “This is… worrying, to say the least.” You nodded, and rubbed your face.
“I’m so sorry, I wish I knew more.”
“No, you’ve done so much.” Zelda reassured, taking your hands away from your face. “Without you, we wouldn’t know this was even happening. Now,” She pressed a kiss to your forehead and helped you stand. “Go and rest, I’ll talk with the captain of the guard and the ambassadors. Link,” She turned to him. “Don’t let anyone stop you on your way. Make sure they get to their room safe.” Link nodded in return and took your arm. Zelda waved, and turned to a guardsman not too far off.
Link walked with you, slower than his usual pace to match yours. He brought his arm away from yours for a moment to sign something to you.
“We can’t both use the travel gates at once, so we’ll be going on horseback. It won’t be an incredibly long journey, but I would bring clothes you would be comfortable riding in.” He explained.
“Shouldn’t we leave now? We would get there by noon tomorrow if we went straight there.” You spoke softly, and Link thought for a moment.
“I’m not sure about that. We’ll have to go through a lot of diplomacy as soon as we arrive, you need to be well rested and recovered after what happened.” He said, a frown creasing in his face. “What if you have another vision at the Domain? You’d be exhausted.”
“Link, please.” You took his hand, and moved your veil to look at him directly. Your hair fell from under your hood, and a slight flush moved it’s way up to Link’s ears. You never took off the veil and hood, it was a sign of protection from false guidance or spirits. He’s never seen your face without it. “I won’t be able to sleep even if we wait, let alone rest. I’ll go mad knowing we waited any longer than needed- people are going to die, Link.” You pleaded, and you felt his resolve begin to crumble. He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“...fine. Fine, alright. But we’ll be taking one horse so you can sleep on the way, pack only what you truly need. We can get food there during the journey.” You smile up at him, full of gratitude. You lift your hood back up and your face and rush forward to hug him tightly. The feeling is foreign to both you and him, Link not being incredibly touchy and you really weren’t supposed to touch people at all- keeping yourself pure and without too deep attachments that could risk severing your connection to the goddess and spirits.
“Thank you.” You murmur into his chest, and let go afterwards. You adjust your robes, unable to meet his eye. “I’ll be ready in ten minutes, where should I meet you?”
“I’ll come gather you. I don’t think you know where the stables are.” He said, a bit of snark on his face. He was right, you didn’t, but he didn’t have to be smart about it. You shove him off and race to your quarters as well as one can when wearing floor length robes that draped and flowed nearly everywhere.
As soon as you closed your door, you went to your wardrobe. You pulled a pair of trousers that weren’t so loose on you and set them on your mattress, as well as a warm tunic and a pair of gloves. You grabbed a pair of opal earrings Link had given to you a while back, he said they had some sort of magical property hidden within that made it easier to swim and climb in the rain. All of your clothes were some form of white or cream color to symbolize your purity and power, but in instances like this it made it more difficult to have proper outdoors attire. Well, you guess that many people when thinking of an Oracle don’t think of horseback riding and trudging through rough terrain.
You removed your hood and veil once more, stripping off your robe and shirt underneath before your boots and pants. You pulled on the outfit you laid out, replacing your silk gloves with the leather ones and putting the earrings through. Your hood and veil were returned and you got on your knees to reach under your bed.
You honestly had no reason to hide this anymore, you knew only Zelda, Link and the only maid you’ve spoken to were allowed in your room and they wouldn’t judge or criticize you for it, but old habits die hard. You pull the small wooden box into your lap and unlatch it, smiling fondly at what laid inside.
It was a simple necklace on a thin chain and didn’t have much design. You didn’t wear much jewelry, and if you did it wasn’t often, but you almost never wear this for a completely different reason. You’d probably keel over and die on the spot if you lost it, or it was broken. The pendant that lay on the chain was in the shape of a star, four points that thinned out as they went with a small quartz stone in the center. The back of the pendant had your name engraved, followed by “Forever in our sky”. It had been a gift from your mother before you left to begin your training and honing your ability. The teachers and guides had tried to take it from you, saying that you must leave everything behind to serve your greater purpose, but you hid it. You figured your family wouldn’t keep you from serving the goddess and you were right. You clipped it on and slid it beneath your tunic before standing and grabbing your satchel that you came here with.
In it you slid a pouch of rupees, two Hasty Elixirs (Link insisted on you taking them, in case you ever needed to run away from a battle.) and your spare set of prayer robes in case you would need them. You walked over to where your altar table was laid out and gathered the few gemstones that laid out in the corners, as well as the small crystal sphere you would roll between your palms to aid with smaller visions. You looked out over your room to confirm you weren’t missing anything, and slid your boots back onto your feet. You opened the door and was met with Link reaching to knock. You sniggered, and stepped aside. He sat on the bed and you shut the door.
“Got everything?” He asked, and you nodded. He had changed out of his Champion’s tunic and into a red and black one you haven't seen before. A full quiver of arrows and a black bow rested above the darkness-sealing sword. He had a satchel as well, presumably for more arrows or weapons. He always liked to be prepared.
“I left a note for Zelda for when she comes looking for us in the morning. Hopefully she won’t be too angry.”
“She will live on.” You said, mimicking her words from earlier which got a smirk out of Link. He turned and pointed to a trapdoor on your ceiling that you hadn’t noticed until this moment.
“We’ll go through the attic and jump down onto the walkway beneath. There’s an old railroad system beneath the castle that will take us to the main gate and out.” He signed, hands moving almost quicker than you can read. “It won’t be easy.”
“Then let’s get going.” Your voice was full of determination, and you moved a bedside table underneath the trapdoor. “You go up first and then help me, you’re taller.”
“Man, I knew I liked you.”
You clung onto Link’s waist as he urged his horse on over the bridge and into the woods. You looked over the night sky and the dwindling candlelight through the castle windows. “I’m sorry, Zelda,” You whispered, “But I can’t wait any longer.” You put your head on Link’s shoulder and closed your eyes, hoping to catch some sleep before hell broke loose.

“Okay but if we kill them, nobody will have any questions, will they? We just bought a house and they moved somewhere far away!” was the first thing you heard, as you have awakened from your “nap”, deciding to keep your eyes shut just for a moment longer, not to lose it again.
“Five!” seems like everyone else said that in unison, grunting and groaning.
Okay, they don’t want to kill you. That’s great. You think it’s safe to open your eyes now.
You were laying on the king-sized bed upstairs, all siblings huddled up around you, watching intensely.
All the chatter between them came to a stop when they noticed that you woke up.
“So.. you’re like all superheroes or something?” you said tiredly, despite feeling rested.
Your mind still felt fuzzy from that info, hearing about such thing only from the tv series or sci-fi genres.
“Guess so,” Luther piped up, shrugging his massive shoulders and offering you a small smile.
Your eyes slowly drifted towards the kid standing by the frame of the bed, wearing a serious expression.
He sighed and frowned at you.
“To be clear, I’m not a kid and I’m actually older than all of you here. I’m a time traveller and I witnessed more in my life than any of you,” his passive-aggressiveness was directed at you, but by the choice of words it felt like he was talking to everyone who was present in the room, “There’s going to be an apocalypse by the end of the summer and our job is to stop it. We failed once, but we won’t fail twice. We rented this house, thinking it would be a good place where we can practise our powers without anyone interfering with us, so please,” his face turned into an exaggerated, wide smile, “don’t get in our way nor mention it to anybody. Thank you,” and as he finished his angry monologue, the blue colour filled the space around him as he disappeared in the thin air, right in front of your eyes.
Hm. Okay?
Only two seconds passed after that, when another sibling started talking to you.
“And I can talk with the dead!” he said happily, spreading his hands in the air like so monk preaching.
“We have a dead brother who’s named Ben and one day I will definitely let you two meet once I learn how to properly conjure him,” he concluded, very pleased with himself.
“Hi, Ben,” you just said with a warm smile on your face, somewhere into the air next to Klaus.
He literally cooed at your action, coming over to you and giving you a quick hug with a pat on the back.
“Okay, maybe we can reveal all our powers later, but let’s leave (y/n) to rest a bit, alright?” Allison proposed, rushing everyone out of the room and then just sparing you a wave and an apologetic smile, closing the doors and leaving you alone.
Maybe you can get used to all this madness. To this family.
You really rested after that.
A room had a roof-window, so laying on that bed allowed you to look up at the sky and lazy, white clouds that every so often rolled along with the blue background.
Soon enough you heard muffled chatter downstairs, this old house being absolutely the worst in being soundproof.
It all reminded you of simpler times, actually, no matter the crazy circumstances.
But enough was enough, and closer to the middle of the day you managed to get out of the bed and descend to the first floor by the wooden stairs, looking around.
Suddenly it seemed quiet.
You shrugged at that and just made your way towards the door, energetically jumping down the few stairs from the veranda and felt your feet hit the hard tartan surface.
Since it was six (plus one spiritually) more people than you were used to having in your home, you decided it was only logical for you to go and buy more food into the local store.
You almost reached the gate to go outside of your property as you heard some fast steps behind you, catching up to you.
When you turned around, you saw a man with longer hair and almost expression on his face.
“Uh... hey, you’re going somewhere?” he asked, brushing the back of his neck.
“To the market, why?” you asked, tilting your head sideways at him.
“Well.. don’t laugh, but I wanted to jog a little, but got concerned that I might get lost..” the end of his sentence was almost inaudible already as he lowered his voice, “so.. mind keeping me company?”
That kind of surprised you and as you slowly realised the meaning of the said words that came out of his mouth you bit the inside of your right cheek *hard*, just not to laugh.
What a silly guy. Getting lost in this hole?
But sure, why not keep him company.
“Be sure to catch up with me though,” you teased as you basically broke into the run, opening the gate and hopping straight onto your bike and starting pedalling really hard to get as far away from him, finally bursting out laughing at the significant distance.
“What?!” was the only thing you heard from him and then you felt the breeze from the hot summer air caressing your cheeks as you were passing your neighbours in the well-known road.
“You seem happier than usual today, darling!” some granny said to you from her garden and you just waved in reply with a huge grin plastered on your face.
After spending last years of your youth more or less alone, you couldn’t even phantom the thought of people your age living with you for the eternity of one summer.
You could never complain about a life you had here, it was all you ever wanted, but the connection with the people of the similar age to you was really lacking sometimes.
And the absolute joy that was washing over you right now was the witness.
You slowed your pace after some time, pretty soon being followed by jogging Diego, beads of sweat rolling down his muscular hands.
Your gaze lingered for a second longer than necessary and you quickly tore it away from him, a slight blush creeping on your cheeks as you now looked straight ahead of you at the road.
“I’m not the best runner, but also not the worst, hun,” he said between the breaths as you continued your ride/walk and you just smiled.
“Pretty decent, I’d say,” you finally stopped at the market’s “parking lot” where there were two spaces for cars and at least a dozen of handles for bikes.
You put yours into one of them, not even bothering to lock it. Everyone knows each other here and everyone knows you.
A young person in the village mostly consisted of people in retirement.
“Alright, what do we have here,” said Diego as he followed you into the store that reminded him of something out of the 70s, really old school design and brands that he never heard of before.
“Everything is mostly homemade here,” you answered, making your way towards the fridge with cold drinks, opening it and throwing him a cola can, “except these bad boys.”
“Hell yeah,” he smirked and then looked around, but his gaze kind of kept wandering back at you, while you were too busy picking the right type and amount of groceries.
Why would you live here all by your lonesome?
“So..” you finally heard him say, as you checked out and we’re both putting the groceries into the deep basket on your bike, “you seem pretty chill with us being.. abnormal.”
You briefly looked up at him when your fingers accidentally touched between the cans of soda and glasses of milk and then your hand moved the other way, eyes too.
“Well.. who’s to say what’s normal and what’s not in this world, honestly?” you jumped on your seat when you were done with loading and started your ride back.
“I know,” he agreed, jogging way less intensely now as your pace appeared much slower, “but seven siblings all having some weird shit powers is... kind of crazy, don’t you think?”
That made you nod, “Yes, of course. But still, I’m not too baffled about this. What are the odds that a village person like me would even get into a situation like this?” you asked rhetorically, gaze fixed on the rocky-sandy road ahead, “You should accept life as it is! Confusion and denial are a waste of time,” you concluded and extended your left hand as you were driving past an apple tree and managed to rip two fruits at the same time, offering one to Diego - all while still riding a bike.
“I have my superpowers too,” you laughed a little and winked at him, making him flustered as he tried to hide it by biting into his apple.
.
.
“What do we have here?” Klaus welcomed both of you at the entrance to the summer house, topless and in a skirt.
“We just bought some groceries since we’re capable of eating the whole fridge out in a day,” Diego deadpanned as he - despite your protests - unloaded your bike storage and went into the house to put the bags there, his arms showing extra muscle that’s normally hidden when his body is relaxed.
Your stare lingered for longer than necessary and Klaus *definitely* picked upon that.
“Darling, if you want to get Diego, be a bit more straightforward with him. He’s a dum-dum,” with the last word he knocked on his own head with a finger and rolled his eyes, giggling playfully afterwards and smacking you on the shoulder.
You defensively did the same, blushing and looking anywhere but at Diego nor Klaus.
Hmmmm, such interesting trees you’re having at your own garden all of the sudden.
“But hey, we’ve all decided that before we start training for the inevitable doom of us all, we would take a break for at least a few days and just go to the beach. When we were coming up we noticed the sea behind all the forests, like.. four kilometres from here?” he looked at you with question, “Have you ever been to the beaches there? Could you guide us?”
You gave it thought only for a brief second and then nodded with a confident smile.
“Sure! I haven’t been there in a year or two but the beaches are still the same, I bet,” you answered and put your hands on hips in a cool posture.
“Thank god!” he impulsively hugged you and let go that instant, “otherwise Five said he wouldn’t let you go with us,” he pouted and then sighed, making his way towards their rusty turquoise-ish car.
You followed him, his words piquing your interest.
“Why does he hate me so much? And why is his name Five?” you narrowed your eyes, plopping yourself on the front seat and sat sideways so you could look at Klaus while talking to him.
“Well, darling...” he started, animatedly throwing his arms in the air, “Five was always a strict man, especially after he came from the future, where he spent like billion years and now he’s 50 year old and always shoves this fact into our young baby faces,” he clearly complained and with annoyed expression continued, “and he’s Five because my name is “officially” Four, but Five was the only one of us who disappeared from the house before our dad even bothered to give us names instead of numbers,” he finished but then remembered and continued, “Actually, it was our AI robotic mom Grace who gave us names,” now he was finished, from somewhere materialising a bottle in his hand and taking a sip from it.
“Anyways, beach trip, babeyyyy!”
“Huh..” you just blinked a few times at him as you heard a hoard of different voices going your way.
You wanted to get out of the car to let them sit however they wanted - you were the odd one out after all - but then they all hoarded in there so quickly that you couldn’t even react, being left in the front seat.
Driver’s seat next to you was empty for now.
As you looked back, Klaus was sitting right behind you, next to him Vanya and on the other side Diego, looking out the window.
Behind them was supposed to be a storage area but they apparently turned it into some diy seats as well, Luther and Allison sitting there, not minding the small space.
Soon the blue sort-of-teleport appeared next to you at the driver’s place and Five briefly threw his gaze at you, swiftly starting the car.
The whole inside of the vehicle roared and you were on your way towards the beach, with you as a main gps they had.

[reaction] oneus’ s/o hiding their pregnancy
Tumblr media
Hii can i request for oneus’s reaction to their s/o hiding her pregnancy? Sorry its not gender neutral!
☽. i did not include dongju (xion) in this particular reaction because he is not yet considered legal in other countries. i also did my best to not exactly put a gender to pregnancy as it is a natural phenomenon in itself. if you enjoyed reading this, please check out more in my masterlist! requested: yes; anon word count: 0.8k words
Tumblr media
post-writing note: i wrote this under the premise that it was unplanned, i only realized after writing that i could have written it in a more diverse fashion. i apologize,,,,
[RAVN] —
Youngjo is quite a realist, so I feel like once he realizes and connects all the dots, he’d reflect and plan accordingly first
He’s immediately assess the situation, try to weigh his options, and see how prepared he is for a family
It’s a lot of financial aspects to think about, and Youngjo wants to make sure that he is truly ready in all aspects (emotionally, financially, etc)
Once he’s finally sure of himself, that’s when he’d actualy talk to you about it
He’s the eldest member of ONEUS, and while he’s pretty young himself, I think he’d be able to adjust with parenthood smoothly
He has a whole Sunny and the younger half of ONEUS to look after, so he’d definitely transition to fatherhood relatively well
Youngjo is excited for the future, but he has to keep his head in the present to ensure that everything will proceed smoothly, for you, him, and your family
[Seoho] —
As I always assert, I believe Seoho is knowledgeable enough to realize that you were pregnant all this time
Aside from the fact that he has an older sister
I feel like his scientific knowledge would help him connect the dots with regards to the changes you were going through, regardless of how hard you tried to hide it
Will he immediately confront you about it? In this case, I don’t think so
Seoho might be uncertain about how he’d go about this, it’s all new to him and he’s scared too
I feel like he’d consult first people he trusts, like his mother for example, to understand how he can best approach the situation
He’s willing to learn more about what he can help with, and he wants to make sure that he can do things right
Before he finally talks to you about it, he wants to be sure that he’s learned everything he can so that he can take care of his new family
[Leedo] —
Geonhak would definitely be taken aback once he finds out, and he couldn’t believe that he missed all the signs
Is it because he was busy with work? Did he really not notice anything different because he had his focus somewhere else?
But to be fair, you were able to hide your pregnancy really well, so Geonhak has to convince himself that it might not be completely his fault for not noticing
Since you were actively trying to hide it from him in the first place
He’ll constantly wonder why you’d try to keep it a secret from him, but I don’t think he would confront you about it immediately
Geonhak will eventually have to talk to you about it, so he just waits for the right time
But he still can’t help but worry, so he’d subtly make sure you’re alright
In ways such as making sure your diet is strictly followed, and that hazards are kept away from your stomach
Before he finally tells you that he found out about your pregnancy
[Keonhee] —
Keonhee eats with you often, I’m sure he was able to pick up some signals when you suddenly declined eating some of your favorite food
Just like Seoho, he pretty much understands how periods work so when he realizes that you haven’t had yours in quite a long time (regardless if you’re regular or not), I think he’ll be able to realize it soon
He’s quick to worry, even if there isn’t any concrete and decisive evidence yet
Simply because he’d feel like it’s all too sudden, Keonhee is young after all
However, unlike some of the others, he’s going to be quick to confront you about it once he’s certain that your pregnancy is true
Keonhee will admit that he’s quite confused, scared even, about everything
But if it were shocking to him, it must have been much more difficult for you, especially if you’ve been hiding it from him all this time
He wants to work this together with you, because you’re both afraid, and he doesn’t want you to be alone in this
[Hwanwoong] —
It definitely shocks Hwanwoong when he finds out, and he’s left ajar
Just like Keonhee, he’s very young and I see Hwanwoong to be passionate and driven towards his personal goals
I don’t think he would expect to be having a family so soon, and thinking about these uncertainties terrifies him
But I think his first move would be to first make sure that you’re alright, you’re safe, and that the child is safe
It might take him a while to acknowledge his own responsibility and obligation, it’ll be a slow transition because he has a lot to unpack in this situation
He’s trying to wrap around the idea of him being introduced to fatherhood, and he doesn’t want to do anything wrong as well
It might disappoint you that he never concretely said that he’ll be in the child’s life in the future, but I do feel like Hwanwoong is responsible enough to accept these responsibilities
It will just take time, but he, like everyone else, just wants to do things right
Sooner or later though, he’ll become excited at the thought of what the future holds for him and you

"Jim!" You called, turning away from your work table that you shared with your coworker. "Len?"
It was an odd order from Starfleet Command. A Class M planet needed help after a long, costly war with its neighboring planet. Thus, Jim ordered at least a good half of the crew to operate on ground and the other still on the ship.
Makeshift tents and tables were set up, instruments needed were beamed down, and life became oddly normal for a bit. The governing body would send food and water daily, and updates to the rebuilding efforts. Roles on the ship were about the same on the planet.
Engineering kept the site running, medical did their best on patching up minor injuries, science continued with discovering, and command still led the entire operation. But it was December, a time where usually Starfleet HQ would give time off for the holidays.
Perhaps this year was different.
"Yeah baby?" The Captain called from across the field.
"Care for dinner since I think I need to physically drag Leonard out?"
He made a face at you, but not at your words, at the prospect of having to try the jello like substance the people were so fond of. A delicacy, they said. But every time you tried a bite, you ended up having to replicate a more familiar food from back at home.
"How about ribs for tonight?" You grinned. "And then some alcohol around the bonfire?"
It was Christmas Eve anyways, and most of the crew were back on the ship, save for some essential ones. You had gifts ready under the tree, but you figured that there wouldn't be any gift giving till at least tomorrow afternoon. The only day off and Starfleet was controlling what you could and couldn't do.
"It's a date," The Captain beamed.
Now to convince your doctor to take the rest of this shift off.
"So what have we learned tonight?" You asked conversationally, looking between your two boyfriends with a smirk.
"That when you said you wanted an early Christmas dinner, you meant it, darlin'," Leonard groaned in appreciation as he cleaned off another spare rib.
"It's sooo good, Y/N," Jim taking a large helping of mashed potatoes for himself.
"Hey hey, slow down there, cowboy," You shook your head anyways, chuckling. "Hope it was worth leaving shift early. If Starfleet doesn't give us shore leave anytime soon, this is the next best thing."
"You are the best thing we could ever wish for, sweetheart."
The two watched you as you ducked your head, examining how suddenly interesting the piece of ham on your plate was.
"Y/N," You looked up. "We love you. Merry Christmas."
Being squished between Leonard and Jim was how you honestly loved to be anytime, anywhere. As CMO and Captain respectively, that was far and few in between. It gave you a sense of security, that the two men you were in love with were safe and sound by your side. You ruffled Jim's hair lazily, a satisfied smile on your face as the doctor drew circles on your thigh.
"When can we open presents?" You mumbled into the silence.
"Whenever you want, baby," Jim answered, sleepily.
"How about in the morning?"
A very dissatisfied grunt came from your right.
"Afternoon then."
Silence, which you took as a grudging acceptance.
"Night."
"Night."
"Goodnight."
So it was quite a surprise when you were roughly shook awake, hours later.
"Bones, Y/N, wake up! Come on, come on. Or you'll miss it," A very excited sounding Captain shouted.
"What the hell do you want, Jim?" A very sleep addled doctor mumbled, pulling you closer against him.
"Go back to sleep, Jay. I wanna sleep in," You whined at the loss of warmth from the left.
"I promise, baby. You can sleep all you want after this. He's almost here!"
"It's-," You blurrily cracked one eye open to glance at the chrom. "Four in the goddamn morning."
"Please."
After a round of pleading and promises, you and Leonard grudgingly sat up. Rubbing your eyes with the back of one hand, you fished around for your uniform.
"Jim, you woke us up at four in the morning to open presents like a child or what? At least let us make some coffee first," The doctor grumbled, pouring the hot water in. "We don't even have kids!"
You grumbled wordlessly, putting on the other sock and lacing your boots. "So who's this "he"?
"I'll show you!"
As the captain nearly tolled you back out the tent, he pointed up at the sky. "Just give him a few minutes."
"There's nothing," You squinted upwards. Other than a few stars that were Federation planets and the Enterprise docked, there was nothing out of the blue.
"Jim, you better not be pulling our legs," Leonard scowled, handing your cup of coffee over and frowning up at the sky. "It's too early for this."
"Chekov said he spotted Santa."
"What?" You turned to Jim, not quite believing his words.
"Sleigh and all."
"I call bullshit," Leonard responded, taking a long sip from his mug. "That kid-."
"What is that?" You squinted back up at the sky, and pointed at a moving red light as it came closer. "Is that an actual red sled with reindeers?"
As you oohed and aahed, many of the Gamma shift crewmembers had paused their work and also followed your line of sight, excited murmurs passing around. You had believed in Santa as a kid, but once you were older, you figured out that "Santa" was actually your parents.
Courtesy of you sneaking out the room and tip toeing towards the living room.
But this?
Your jaw dropped as the iconic red sled, twelve reindeers with one in the front with a red nose, and a red sack filled to the brim with presents.
"Ho ho ho. Merry Christmas, USS Enterprise crew," The figure bellowed, and you nearly fainted right then and there.
All around the clearing, there were others just like you, surprised by the sudden appearance of a fantasized figure.
"I'm not dreaming, am I?" Leonard murmured, rubbing his eyes again as though Santa was just an imagination of his mind.
"He's real," You continued staring in amazement. "Santa's actually real."
Santa laughed as though amused. "Christmas will always come. Believe in its magic. Rudolph, take us away."
With a snap of the reins, he was gone in an instant as though a fleeting dream.
"Did did that really just happen?" You asked, unsure.
No one answered.
As the shock gradually disappeared, you turned back to the other two. Jim looked pleased with himself, and Leonard didn't quite know how to digest the experience of meeting Santa in person.
"That was a hell of an experience," He murmured.
"A real Santa. Do you think Joanna will believe you?" You grinned, settling back into bed once the fun was over.
"Should've taken a photo when I had the chance," Jim pulled you to him this time.

Spooky Stargazing
Tumblr media
childhood best friend!Chan x Reader (gender neutral)
Words: 1.5K words
Summary: Holidays just aren’t your thing. So Chan decides to skip out on parties to make your Halloween a little better.
Warnings: none
A/N: so holidays just feel more lonely as I get older and I thought of this while working on Halloween. Happy Halloween to those who celebrate, and I hope this gives comfort to those of you who feel a little alone this year.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You laid back down in bed, a sigh escaping your lips.
Another Halloween and nothing to do. You spent your day perusing through the festive movies, occasionally settling on one and becoming tired of it by the halfway point. You’d then open up social media to look at everyone else dressing up in revealing outfits that barely pass as costumes.
Costumes weren’t really your thing.
Well, Halloween in general really wasn’t your thing.
It’s not that you had anything against it, the holiday itself was rather cute. It’s just that Halloween hasn’t felt the same since you were young. You suppose that the magic of holidays just wore off once you became older.
So your face was stuck in a bit of a pout as you sighed yet again, looking for something to take your mind off your negative feelings.
Alcohol was always an option, but you weren’t much of a party type either. You could always ask you friends to hang out, however most of them already had plans for the night and none of which included entertaining you.
You decided upon rewatching a Halloween movie until you got bored once again. You panned through your options until you decided on one you’ve seen many times: the nightmare before Christmas. Maybe the Christmas elements would make you feel a bit better.
You tucked yourself further into your covers as you clicked play. The opening tune began to play as you grabbed a stuffed animal to cuddle into while watching.
Only fifteen minutes in to the movie and you found yourself fighting off sleep despite the fact that it wasn’t even 10 pm yet. Your eyes went between closing for a few minutes back to watching the movie. That was until your phone buzzed in your hand.
You supposed it was probably just a notification for a game or one of your many shopping apps. But to your surprise, the name of your best friend flashed upon the screen.
Why Chan was texting you when he should be out partying was a mystery to you.
You pushed yourself up into a sitting position on your bed while the movie continued to play in the background.
Chan: hey :)
You sent back a simple question mark, needing no further explanation as to why you were confused.
Chan: Vernon decided to hit some parties without me. Wasn’t feeling it this year.
This came as a surprise to you seen as how two days ago he was telling you all about his fantastic costume idea.
“A sexy panda?” you looked down to Chan incredulously. His head laid in your lap as he nodded fervently.
“Yes! I wear a panda head and then black pants and shoes,” he shot up in excitement.
“And what about the shirt?”
“That’s what makes it sexy, no shirt,” his arms moved eagerly as he smiled bright.
You shook your head in disbelief at him, “I’m not sold. You can’t just wear no shirt and claim that it’s now sexy, Chan. That’s not how it works.”
“But Vernon and Seungkwan told me it’s a great idea,” Chan whined out, a little quieter than before.
“And that’s because you chose to be friends with two idiots who want to see how stupid you would look in that costume,” you gave him a pointed look, quirking your brow in the process.
You blinked as your phone screen lit up with another text from Chan.
Chan: you doing anything?
You smiled down at your phone, telling him you were bored out of your mind, and you need to be rescued ASAP. A few minutes later and Chan was on his way to pick you up and save you from your boredom.
When he sent you another text saying he was here, you were just finishing brushing your hair. You grabbed the last few of your things before throwing on some shoes and locking the door on your way out.
You impatiently waited for the elevator to hit your floor and make its way down to the lobby of your apartment complex. When the elevator finally dinged for the first floor, you fast-walked out of the building and beelined for your best friend’s car.
A smile graced your face as you opened the door of his gray car, sitting down in the familiar passenger seat.
“Glad to see you’re not black out drunk yet,” you looked over at Chan as he sat in the driver’s seat.
He was dressed in something far from a Halloween costume, with sweats and a sweatshirt covering his body and his glasses framing his face. Mock hurt crossed his face as he moved some of his light brown hair (dyed, thanks to Soonyoung convincing him it was a good idea and you having to salvage the mess that was beginning to unfold).
“That was only freshman year of college, and you know it was because someone spiked the punch. It wasn’t my fault,” he began pulling out of the parking lot and driving to a random location.
“I’m sure it was that. Definitely not just your low tolerance and demand to make everything a competition,” your sarcastic words bounced off him like they always did.
“Shush. I thought picking you up would be fun, not an opportunity for you to bully me,” he glanced at you between words.
“Bullying you is a regular occurrence, you should be used to it after knowing me for years Lee Chan,” the teasing manner ever present in your words, “now where are you taking me? Or is it some undisclosed second location where you’re finally going to murder me on this Hallow’s eve?”
“Bold to assume I would leave an evidence trail so obvious if I were to do so. But no, we’re going out of town for a few hours. Figured there’d be less people there.”
“Now you’re trying to hard to sound like you’re planning on ending me. What’s the real plan for tonight?”
“I figured we could go stargazing. Tonight’s a full moon after all and I know you don’t really get to do this kind of thing very often,” he sincerely responded for the first time tonight.
A warm feeling circled in your stomach as you felt touched that he would think to do something like this for you. Sure, you’ve been friends for years. However you most often spend time cuddling and watching movies or playing too many video games with him and the rest of the boys.
“That sounds rather nice actually. I’m looking forward to it,” you responded back just as sincere as he did to you.
The rest of the car ride was filled with the story of Vernon getting ready at his and Chan’s apartment--apparently he decided to go as a sexy hippie (not a huge surprise to you, his wardrobe fits that costume more than you would like to admit).
When Chan finally pulled off the side of the road and stopped the car, the two of you were quite literally in the middle of nowhere. Both ways the road went, you couldn’t see city lights. When you stepped out of the car, your eyes panned upwards at the night sky.
A gasp escaped your lips as you admired the tons of stars that you had trouble seeing in the city.
Your eyes remained fixated on the sky as Chan reached into the back of his car to grab a couple of blankets.
“Let’s go lay somewhere farther off the side of the road, you’ll be able to see them even better laying down,” Chan smiled across the car at you.
You nodded and proceeded to follow him, his phone flashlight being the only light source for miles. Once you and Chan laid the blankets down and were gazing back upon the sky, you let out a sigh. But for the first time today, a sigh of content.
Chan and you took turns pointing out constellations you both knew, and pondered over what other ones looked like if you didn’t recognize the collection of stars. Neither of you would claim to be experts, but the activity was fun nonetheless.
You kept your eyesight casted upwards as the two of you would drift in and out of conversation comfortably. You finally turned towards Chan, slight surprise filled your expression when your eyes locked with Chan’s, already fixed on you.
“Thank you Chan. For all of this,” you gestured to the blanket and the sky, “you don’t know how much I needed this.”
He merely smiled back at you and shook his head.
“Holidays aren’t really your thing. The least I could do is make sure my best friend has just a good of a time as I do.”
“As ravishing as you would look in that sexy panda costume, I’m happy you chose me over those parties you wanted to go to,” you smiled over at him.
“I would look good as a sexy panda, wouldn’t I?” he let out a slight laugh at your compliment.
You moved closer until your head rested on his shoulder and your arm wrapped around his torso. His arm naturally wrapped itself around your waist.
“I love you,” you muttered into his shoulder as you looked back up at the stars.
“Happy Halloween,” he left a brief kiss in your hair, staring up into the sky with you, “I love you too.”
