hello my tungles personal stuff im sad i have nobody to talk to about below
i am 4 wks pregnant and im so excited. i know i should keep my excitement contained until the "safe" point (and i cant help but fear my abortion a few years ago is gonna some how ruin it) but i cant help it. but im soso sad i have no friends to talk to about it or family members to talk to. theyre gonna want me back around once they find out i have "something" of value to "give" them 💀 but i wont let them near my child, they will never have a chance to make them feel as unloved and awful as theyve consistently made me feel my whole life, including most recently when i finally reached out again in a time of need. but enough of that. i want to have purpose in this way i mean at least my bfs family will decide i can have human rights once theyres someone more important in the pic theyre thinkin of hahahaha. like ive already come to the mentally ill conclusion my life will never mean or be anything but at least i can love and nurture someone else with potential. maybe i can support someone else and give them that momentum to make something of their life instead of incessant trauma that repeatedly holds them back.
and ill get my gruel tickets back from the government and better healthcare, my state is suuuper pro birth so im not gonna struggle at all methinks... the mormons looove helpin new moms after all.
anyways. im very excited. im already looking at cloth diapers. and everything is sososo smelly.

(y/n pov)
Finishing your first year at college is surprisingly very rewarding, studying for almost 16 years just to study another 4 years to get a job. And of course like every other person, I would like to celebrate it.
My group of friends (5 including me) were discussing about how we should celebrate it. ''Why don't we go drinking?'' but none of us agreed since it was to ordinary. ''Sky diving?'' firstly, where the fuck do you sign to go sky diving, also, probably some of us would shit ourselves while doing it.
''Let's just simply go to an amusement park'' and we all agreed. Going there is an affortable, simple and enjoyable activity. We were so excited to that day to come, it has been a very long time since I went to one.
I remember when I was 6 years old telling my mom that I would take my future boyfriend here. It was like an untalked tradition in our family. Someone in our family would go to an amusement park and meet their soulmate, that's how my parents, grandparents and more meet.
I made sure to be prepared very well, so I was already trying on new clothes i bought yesterday. It was a denim mini skirt with a cute cropped black top covered by a racing jacket.
We were meeting by 8pm at the entrance, I came the first so obviously I had to wait for them. Watching all these people around me made my heart warm, it was as if I became a kid again.
As soon as they arrived we went to different rides and games, it felt so nostalgic so I knew I had to go to my all time favourite ride. The ferris wheel, I loved being at the top of it while holding my smalls hands with my parents.
Now that I grew up, I had to go, not with my parents but with my friends who I admire a lot. We helped eachother's struggles, sadness and shared happiness since highschool.
When we arrived there, the long queue felt like it was never gonna end. Even buying the tickets was taking too long, so to save up time 4 people were at the queue while I went to buy tickets.
Suddenly a boy behind me tapped my shoulder nervously, ''excuse me, your skirt still has the tag on'' I looked at his face (not gonna lie, I felt like I stared at him for 10 minutes) then analyzed his blonde almost golden hair when I snapped out of it and reacted.
''Oh my god, thank you, I haven't noticed'' I laughed nervously and turning my head down covering up my red blushed face trying to cut the tag, ''don't worry, can you cut it off?'' he put his hand on the hair offering his help.
''No thanks it's okay, I can do it by myself'' I gave him a smile to cover up the embarrasment, when I finally broke the tag I said thanks and just then it was finally my turn to buy the ticket. ''5 tickets please'' I quickly payed and waved to say goodbye to the blonde guy.
Searching for me friends was difficult but then I captured them almost at the front of the line. ''Girl why is your face all red'' they all started asking questions but I just answered ''no just nothing'' trying to not blush harder.
''Hey we meet again'' I slowly turned around praying it was the guy from before, and it was ''oh hey, guess I should have expected this'' I laughed it off with an akward smile. ''Oh so you are that guy'' my friends also giggled.
Just in time it was our turn to enter the cabins, not knowing they had changed it to two person maximum to make more cabins but less people in there, of course the size of it was smaller like this. Then I realised someone had to be alone with a stranger, our heads turned at the same time facing each other.
''I don't care if I go alone'' but that was the same thing we all said. But before I volunteered to do it the recognisable voice that made me blush spoke up. ''I can go with you'' I turned around and found him with his arm wrapping my shoulder.
Of course I had to agree, I mean he was like a dream. So my friends started to get in pairs and when it was our turn to enter he winked at me ''ladies first''.
I sat down and saw 6 more man cheering him when the staff closed the door I heard ''YOU GOT IT RIZZER'' from one of those guys. ''sorry If they are making you feel uncomfortable, I'll later kick their ass or something'' we both laughed ''no don't worry is okay'' I said nervously.
We were both facing eachothers face and I could see him getting nervous aswell. ''Sooo, what's your name?'' I broke the akward silence, ''Dejun, or Xiaojun as you want haha'' 'beautiful name really, mine is y/n by the way, basic right?'' I laughed akwardly.
''Could I get your number?'' I shaked my head inmediatly and gave him my phone, when he returned it I saw the name ''Junnie🦖'' saved. I laughed ''you really give vibes of a t-rex''.
The air between us wasn't an akward anymore but rather a loveful (a/n: wtf) one. We both knew the conextion was special and the silence was melodically great.
Minutes passed and we kept getting to know each other until he asked me:
''Can I kiss you?'' At that moment butterflies were in my stomach and my heart beated like crazy. I slowly approached him putting my arms onto his shoulders trying not to give him a lot of weight.
My head slowly got closer when one of his hands was pulling a strand of hair behind my ear which was covering part of my face. Then Xiaojun carefully placed his hand on my jawline, and our lips touched.
It was my very first kiss and I think he could hear my heart beating like crazy. Then we had to break that kiss because of the fireworks, we laughed it off to not seem akward and stared at the fireworks.
Those were lovely and I could fell in love with it. ''Did you know it was my first kiss?'' XIaojun's eye wide opened and giggled while saying ''oh my bad hahaha, as long as you liked it'' Then I pulled in closer for a second one, this kiss he was leading it making it more passionately.
I didn't have any experiences before so I just followed his doings, we kept going until we were both out of breath and just in time our ride ended. We both separated our bodies quickly but wishing for more, ''text me anytime'' he said before separating our path. I winked at him this time.

Happy Mother’s Day everyone!! 💕💕💕
(Gonna share something personal below the cut)
Mother’s Day has always been a really weird time for my family and I, mostly because my mom cheated on my dad, wasn’t sorry about it, openly dated the other guy, brought him with her when she would picked me and my sister up from school, all while “trying” to hide it behind my dad’s back.
My dad found out however cause honestly she wasn’t being subtle about it at all, she was pretty shameless tbh. She didn’t really see the error in her ways, she thought that just cause she’s in love, all was fair. You know the saying, all was fair in love and war.
Well, my parents got into a lot of fights, but honestly it wasn’t any different than before the cheating, cause according to my mom, she didn’t loved my dad. But if in that sense, she really shouldn’t have married him in the first place.
I had foster grandparents from my dad’s side who begged her not to leave and to think of the children (my sister and I) I even remembered my foster grandmother even went so far as to go down on her knees and cry. Mind you she was well into her 70s and this wasn’t an easy task.
My mom still followed through with the divorce anyways, she wanted custody of my sister and I, but my dad said no.
This was a very reasonable response cause my mom was never a present mother tbh, she would often leave my sister and I to our own devices and would mostly go watch Kdrama or TV and stuff.
My dad fought for custody over the both of us, somehow he got it, and he took care of us, raised us, alone, all by himself, never got remarried. We had always been his top priority.
I’ve never really considered my biological mom as a mother tbh…the most she did was gave birth to me, she never did try to get to know me, she was always off in dreamland thinking Prince Charming was gonna sweep her off her feet.
My real mom has always been my dad.
But even after all of that, it isn’t good to keep being angry all the time at my mom.
For the longest time I resented her for leaving me and my sister. I thought she didn’t love us enough to stay.
I held a grudge and I was so mad at her whenever she came to visit, or whenever she would bring her new husband around.
I refused to call him my stepfather.
And for awhile there, I got so mad at her audacity that I cut off all contact with her.
But then after a couple of years, my sister and I started to miss her presence.
Yes, she wasn’t a very good mom, yes she was never really present, yes she left us, but it felt weird not having her in our lives.
So years later, we reached out and made up, but we did set boundaries. She was more like a friend to us than a mom, and she understands that now.
But Yeahh we’re still working through it, it gets less awkward everyday but we’re getting there.
But no matter what, my dad will always be my dad and my mom.
We celebrate him on Mother’s Day too! 🥰
Yesterday we took him out to eat at this fancy Japanese restaurant and got him a cake!
But today he got upset that we ordered food and cake for my mom.
So we cheered him up by taking him out to lunch and shopping 🥰

Nature & Nurture
Sam Kiszka x Reader
@earthlysorrows and I got sappy about being in nature with Sam. Owchies
Warnings: Fluff <3

“Daddy!”
“There’s a bear outside!” Your two children yelled for your husband as they came bolting into the cabin.
Your parents had kept your grandparents' old house in Upper Michigan and decided that the family could use the house as a little getaway space whenever you wanted. It meant a lot to you that you could share this space with your new family and create new memories with them there.
You heard the cries breaking through their volume so you stepped into the hallway entrance from your seat on the couch.
“Is everything okay? Are you hurt?” You said worriedly scanning over their features to assess any damage.
“Where’s daddy?” Your youngest– your five year old daughter Etta whined between ragged breaths.
“He’s in the shower right now, what–”
“What happened, is everyone okay?” Sam said, speeding down the hallway in just a towel, hair dripping wet.
“There’s a bear outside in the yard by us when we were playing. He’s big and scary.” Your seven year old son Bentley explained with watering eyes.
“Did you get hurt?” Sam asked, now inspecting their skin to make sure nothing had happened.
They both shook their heads no in response.
Sam got up from his place in front of your children saying, “Stay here with mom, I’ll be right back I just need to get dressed.”
As Sam walked away, you brought the kids into the kitchen and set them on the bar stools next to the island.
“You two look like you were playing rough out there. Did you fall into the mud?” You asked the two as they sat watching you wet a washcloth with warm water.
“Etta pushed me into the dirt.”
“No!”
“Uh huh, yeah. You didn’t like my idea so you pushed me right into the dirt pile!”
They began to argue and when one would accuse the other of something, they would look at you to see if they could figure out who you believed.
“I think you two are done playing for a little while.”
“What’s taking daddy so long?”
“That is a great question my dear–” You answered peeking your head through the entrance from the kitchen into the hallway looking out towards the back porch where you found Sam unloading blankets from the storage bin.
“–You should go find him.”
The two hopped down from their seats, rapidly running down the too narrow hallway.
“Daddy!” They yelled as they stopped by the bedroom first, only to be met with an empty space with a towel folded on the dresser.
They froze when they heard a thud come from outside.
“Mommy! Is daddy outside?”
“Why would daddy go outside? There’s a big bear out there!”
You grabbed their small hands, and walked them through the back porch leading them to the door.
“Daddy!” Etta screamed when she saw him setting up the blanket on the outdoor swing a couple steps away from the house.
Before you could tell them to be quiet, Bentley was swinging the door wide open and running out to their father.
“Stop!” Sam whisper-yelled to your children as they wrapped themselves around his lower half.
“Daddy, did you see the bear? Is he gone?”
“Well if he wasn’t before, he is now.”
“Did you scare him away?”
“I think you two booger-monsters did.” Sam said, picking up Etta and resting her on his waist.
“We’re not booger-monsters!” Bentley defended.
“You are!” Etta screeched in Sam’s face poking at his nose.
“You’re right. I am.”
“Come here my little boogers. I wanna show you two something.” Sam continued.
You watched from the porch with content as he made his way to the swing and sat on it with Etta still on his side, and Bentley following close behind.
“What are we doing?” Bentley asked, looking up at his father with a bored expression on his face.
“We’re gonna spend some family bonding time out here.” Sam answered your oldest while shooting a wink at you through the window.
You let the three of them spend an ample amount of time just enjoying one another’s company, knowing that they missed Sam while he was away. Whether they missed him more than you did was a debatable topic.
Sam and your children had a strong bond that you were beyond grateful for, and they loved you an equal amount.
After you finished cleaning up the cabin a little, the sun had begun to set and the other three members of your family were still outside. You threw on one of Sam’s hoodies, some slippers and made your way outside to join your little crew.
As you stepped out onto the steps, you began to speak and ask what they were giggling about before you got cut off by your daughter.
“Shush, mommy. Don’t scare the bear away.”
“Okay, I’ll be quiet.” You responded with a whisper.
“Mommy come sit by me?” Bentley asked, sitting up from his leaning position on Sam’s arm.
The three of you sat for a moment before you spoke up.
“So where exactly is the bear that I need to be quiet for?”
“He’s walking around behind Great-Grandpa Y/L/N’s barn. But daddy says we still have to be quiet.” Bentley informed you barely audible to your ears.
“Do you remember why I said that we need to be quiet?” Sam asked the two children.
“”S ‘cause they can get scared really easy if we’re too loud.” Etta said as she rested her head back against Sam’s chest.
“Mhm. Good job babydoll–” Sam complimented your daughter as he brushed her hair out of her face and rested his chin atop of her head.
“–They’re not as mean as people think they are, it’s just that they can get really scary when they’re protecting their home and babies. Just like daddy does and you don’t think I’m scary, right?”
“But then why do they have big scary claws?” Etta followed-up.
“It’s mostly so that they can climb trees and they can also use them to break apart logs to look for bugs.”
“So, they don’t have the claws to hurt us?”
“Nope. People get scared of animals sometimes when they know that they could hurt them, but they don’t learn why animals get angry like that. When you see them minding their own business and doing their own thing you realize they’re not as mean as people say they are.”
“Oh! Mommy, daddy! Look, look! The bear is eating the bushes!” Bentley shot up from his relaxed position once again, pointing at the bear that was now in the bushes.
“He’s actually eating the itty bitty berries that are hidden in the bush, and pulling each one off with his lips. See? Isn’t that cool?”
Early the next morning you found yourself sitting on the swing once again, with a book and a mug of coffee in hand.
“Good morning my dear.” Sam said plopping next to you moving the swing with his movements.
“Are the kids up yet?”
“No, I only heard snores when I was on my way out. No arguing.”
“Good. They need to sleep. They were up late last night.”
You placed your things down on the table to the side of you before readjusting your blanket and laying against Sam with your head in his lap.
His hand that wasn’t occupied with his own coffee found it’s way in your hair, combing through the strands, sprawling them onto his legs.
“Hey babe, I love you.” You said quietly looking up at him.
“I love you too.”
“You are the best dad to our children. They love and adore you so much.”
“Well it’s a good thing they love and adore you too, because then I’d have to try and break it to you that I’m the favorite parent and that would just make things awkward.”
“We both know if they had to choose, they would pick you in a heartbeat. That’s alright though.”
“Hey look by the barn.”
You craned your neck to see two baby foxes running around the barn playing together.
“Aw, babe they’re so cute. I want one.”
“Maybe that’s not a good idea.” Sam suggested through quiet laughter.
“But they’re so cute I’m gonna snatch one to bring back home.”
“No, you’re not babe. They have to stay with their mom. They’re still babies.”
“I suppose. I love the sound of the grass rustling underneath the foxes feet mixed with the sounds of the crickets chirping.”
“Oh? You enjoy the sound of insects trying to fuck? Well if I would have known sooner I could have put on a real show for you.” Sam said, wiggling his eyebrows in a joking manner.
“God you’re disgusting.” You commented, placing your head back down on his lap.
“You like it. We wouldn’t be here if you didn’t. And neither would Etta and Bentley.”
“Anyways, do you have any animal facts to enlighten me with today?”
“Well–” Sam began, staring out into the field, eyes landing on the animals at play.
“– Just that I think that we’re a lot like foxes.”
You glanced back up at Sam.
“Really?”
“Yeah. I think we’re going to be together forever. You know, if the vixen dies, the tod will refuse to get into another relationship?”
“I didn’t know that.”
“I really don’t think I’d be able to move on if anything ever happened to you. To us. You’re the best damn vixen a tod could ask for.”
“I can’t believe you sometimes. You’re too cute.” You responded by leaning up to place a gentle kiss against his lips.
“Foxes!” Etta and Bentley yelled as they ran outside towards the two of you, causing the animals to scatter.
“Shush my babies. Let the animals live in peace for once you booger-monsters.”

You paced nervously in the hallway, waiting for that knock on the door. Ever since you were 2, you had been living with your grandparents. Your mother was a muggleborn and was found by the vengeful deatheaters a few months after Sirius was imprisoned. Your grandparents didn’t understand a lot about the wizarding world, but they understood you. They were your best friends.
When you would ask about your mother and the bad people who took her away, they would gently sit you down and tell you all about her. They would tell you how much she loved you, the way she had cried when you were first born, how similar she was to you, how she had spent every minute fighting for your father’s innocence.
They would then tell you about your father. How much he loved your mother and you, how you had his grey eyes and the beautiful hair and his affinity for mischief. They even told you about his friends and the pranks they did in school.
Your mother had so many pictures from her school days. Pictures with your father, with her friends, with his friends. You could spend the entire day looking at them. But you could never bring yourself to. It was too difficult. Too difficult to look at the pictures of the two most important people you barely remembered.
Harry was younger than you. Once you had received the news that your father had broken out, you both had talked a lot about him. You told him Sirius was innocent but you had no proof, neither did he have any reason to believe you.
Once his fourth year and your sixth year was over, you had gotten a letter from your father. He was finally healthy enough to travel and wanted to meet you at the apartment he and your mother had shared. You had spent 2 years there as an infant before Sirius had been wrongly accused and your mother moved back in with her parents.
Your grandpa and grandma were ecstatic when they had heard the news and had instantly allowed you to spend the weekend with him. You didn’t know if you were nervous or excited. Probably both.
Your heart beat sped up when you heard a knock and ran to open the door. You were greeted by a man looking in his 30s who looked so much like you. “Dad...” you said, not being able to believe that he was finally here.
He smiled and pulled you into an awkward hug. “It is so good to see you, sweetheart.”
You grinned and let him in, closing the door behind him.
He looked around the house he had shared with your mother, all the memories rushing back. When they had first bought it, decorated it and his favourite one, when they had brought you home from the hospital.
“I - you can have a look around if you want,” you offered, not knowing what else to say. “It must have been a long time since you were last here.”
He nodded, “It is, but I am starving. You want to have dinner first?”
You gave him a small smile and went towards the dining room. “I didn’t know what you liked so I got pizza.” You said nervously. “We can get something else. I am sorry I wasn’t - ”
“Pizza is just fine,” he grinned.
The silence during dinner was very awkward. Neither of you knew what to say. Sirius’ heart was heavy with sadness and guilt. How he had missed out on all those years. Missed out on your firsts. The first time you left for Hogwarts, the first time you had cried over someone, your first detention. And guilt because it was his fault. If he wouldn’t have gone after Peter, he would be there to watch you grow up.
“Uh, how is school?” he asked, snapping you out of your thoughts.
“Nice, I like it there,”
He nodded. “I did, too. My family was the worst so Hogwarts was my home. Especially after I met your mother.”
You didn’t know how to respond to that. Your heart clenched at her mention and didn’t say anything else during the rest of the dinner.
“Do you wanna see the rest of the house before you sleep? I don’t think you have before.” He asked.
You shook your head and followed him upstairs. The first door he opened was the master bedroom’s, a picture of your mother and father lying on the nightstand, covered in dust. Every inch of the room and the bathroom was covered in dust.It had been so long it was a miracle the light switches worked. With a flick of his wand, he cleaned it all up and made it look as good as new.
“She was beautiful,” he sighed, looking at the photo.
You nodded and left the room quickly, going to your nursery. There was a crib on one side and a bed on the other. The wall had a shelf full of books, both muggle and magical alike. A broom hung over your crib, zooming around in circles. This room, too, was covered in dust.
You were reading the titles of the book when you heard him chuckle behind you.You turned around and saw him remove all the dust. You gasped when you saw the room properly. There were hand-painted drawings on the wall and stars on the ceiling.
“She painted the walls.” he told you. “And the stars were my idea. There were nights when she missed you a lot and would come in here and sleep in this room. After a point, we all slept in the nursery, hence the bed.” He laughed fondly.
You didn’t like it. It was too painful to know that you had all these wonderful moments but you hardly remembered them. Too painful to know that you never got the chance to make more of such moments. You sighed and sat down on the bed.
“What’s wrong?” He asked, sitting down beside you.
You looked at him, eyes full of unshed tears. You never realized how much you had needed him until he was right in front of you. “I - I barely remember you. Or mom. I see flashes of you and her, but that’s it.” He placed an arm around your shoulder and your voice broke. “I missed you, but it was so difficult missing you when I didn’t even remember you...” You then broke down into sobs as he pulled you into him. “I missed you so much, dad.” You cried.
Holding you in his arms as you cried only drowned him deeper in guilt. “I am so sorry, baby...” he said softly. “I never should have left that night. Please forgive me.”
You sniffed and looked up at him, tears still rolling down. “When grandma told me what you had done, I was so angry at you for leaving. But then I realized I wanted to be like you. Brave and loyal to a fault. McGonagall says I resemble you two so much that it is actually scary.” You laughed softly.
He smiled and wiped away your tears.
“I will be right back,” you said and left the room to change after sitting in silence for a few minutes.
He smiled softly to himself, knowing that his daughter had missed him just as much as he had. It gave him peace knowing that you had forgiven him. He was going through the story books when he realized that you were not 2 years old anymore. He couldn’t read you bedtime stories anymore.
“There are a few photos I need to know more about,” you said from behind him, as if reading his mind. “You can tell me about them.”
He nodded and ran off to get the photographs from downstairs. You placed the box in front of him and settled into bed, waiting for him to begin.
He chuckled at the collection of pictures your mother had. “These were my friends,” he said, handing you a photo of 4 boys with arms around each other, laughing to the camera. “Peter was a friend, too,” he said sadly.
“Tell me more,” you asked, your eyes full of excitement.
He laughed and began an elaborate tale of the Marauders in Hogwarts, reminiscing all their pranks and memories. Somehow, talking about them with you was not as painful as it was with others or when he was by himself and he wouldn’t want it any other way.
By the time he was done, you were already asleep. You had not completed the story behind even one photograph. He chuckled softly and tucked you in, kissing your forehead.
Now that he was finally home with his daughter, he was not going anywhere ever again.

Very personal me stuff that has nothing to do with rp whatsoever so you can ignore this if you feel like I won't be upset
(If you don't want a long summary of examples skip to the big-ass tldr)
I remember when I was in Young 5's-1st Grade (5-8 yrs old), and I knew this kid who I'm gonna call Homeboy G.
Homeboy G was great! We liked the same stuff, he was aesthetically pleasing to look at, I liked his style and was naturally drawn to him (As I'm typing this I'm wondering if I had a lil bit of gender envy towards him but shhhh we can confront that later).
So, as the little kid who was raised on Disney Channel and Nickelodeon due to a mom who didn't really know what she was doing and had to leave me with various babysitters to work and provide for the two of us, I assumed that I had a crush on this kid.
When my mom told me bedtime stories, Homeboy G would be the prince who saved the princess (*gagging noises*), and I would occasionally admit my crush on him to a close friend who I knew wouldn't snitch.
Fast-forward to 2nd grade; I had moved from Michigan to Arizona due to guardianship being handed over to my grandparents, I was at a new school and very much an asshole due to the Lil Bucket of Trauma that I carried with me at all times. I met this kid, who's real name was Richard (1. I say this because his nickname was different and I'm not sharing that because Richard is common and 2. His mom is my math teacher rn so thank Hodur she doesn't know what Tumblr is).
Richard was...alright? He was smart, looked alright, so little me looked at him and went "Yep that one". I even wrote a cringe love poem to him (I started young folks), which I don't remember the contents but ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww--
I was so dramatic about it, it was insaneee. He knew I had a crush on him, the whole class knew I had a crush on him, and I'm pretty sure the teacher had an idea of it too.
3rd grade: A dude named Jacob! He was a dick to his little brother, I have no clue what I was thinking
Skipping over 4th-7th grade, because I skipped 4th grade like the smart cookie I was (where did those brain cells go???) and the other grades had no crush-related incidents.
8th grade? It was this girl named Carly. Her name isn't actually Carly, cuz you can see a pattern where I only keep the most common-ass names honest and change the rarer ones, and also Carly was my shitty abusive ex-aunt so HAH SUCK ON THAT CARLY AND "CARLY"--
My crush on Carly developed from the beginning of the year since she was in my homeroom (homeroom is the first class of the day for my British friends, it was science for me) and my orchestra class.
Now Carly? She was an 8.5 out of 10. She was my eye-candy in both classes, I'd be staring at her like there was no tomorrow (except for when someone might notice). I started documenting my progress with potentially romancing her, and I got nervous when I realized that I didn't know if she liked girls or not.
Then I realized I was trans, and I went "Whelp problem solved"
My desperation to win Carly over stuck throughout the entire year, one time I cried because she snapped at me (not in front of her thank god, my grandmother had to deal with that).
AND THEN my best friend dmed me.
They told me about how another friend of ours and someone else would constantly go at them for being the first chair in the first violins (talented best friend <3<3<3), and how these two would say that MY bff didn't deserve their spot.
Who was the second person?
Fucking. Carly.
The moment I found out, I lost all interest in Carly. No more trying to get to know her or impress her, I didn't even TRY to get her side of the story (mostly because my BFF is the most honest person I know, they've only ever told white lies, and they definitely would ruin my view of someone I like unless the claims were legitimate), I just...dropped her instantly.
TL;DR - I was very weird and shallow about the people I liked.
For a few years, I've been dancing around the answer as to why. I thought I was asexual for a while, and then realized after a dream I am NOT going into that nope, I'm definitely sexually attracted to people, which was how I found the label of Bisexual that I still claim with pride to this day.
And to past me; A little confused, but you got the spirit.
It wasn't the sexual attraction I was missing, it was the romantic attraction.
I've been dancing along the line for a few years, sometimes going "yeah probably" and sometimes going "NO"
The only person I've ever told was my grandmother, and if you guys know anything about her then you know that she didn't take it well. Because she didn't.
She cried, was so scared that I'd never be happy and never find my soulmate and blehblehbleh.
Other than her? Not a soul.
But I've thought it over a lot, and a Youtuber who I used to watch as a tiny gremlin (Spoiler alert: It's JaidenAnimations) came out as aroace, and she talked about her experiences with being aro, and I realized that I Am Aromantic.
And I don't wanna hide anymore.
I was never into Homeboy G, or Richard, or Jacob or Carly. I was just into the idea of being with them. I had romance shoved into my brain since I was a little kid, due to being raised by a TV, and I thought that it was the most important thing on the planet, that I'd be unwhole without it.
And clearly, people around me feel that way too.
I thought romance was more of a promise (which it is) than an actual feeling. I thought it would happen to me eventually. I thought it was this great final puzzle piece to my being, and that maybe if I had a s/o I'd be less empty, less depressed, less dysphoric.
It doesn't work that way.
Am I shunning all possibility of a romantic relationship? No, I think I have the potential to be in one and actually enjoy it, I just have a rare view on what romance actually is that other people don't quite get. Aromanticism, like many things, is a spectrum. I also fall on the spectrum.
And the ironic thing is that realizing that I'm aro, I feel like the hole's been filled. I don't need a s/o to make my life complete, all I need is to be accepting of myself, and to be accepted by the people I find most important.
(P.S. When I say I don't have romantic attraction for people I am NOT including Vision from the MCU if he pulled out a ring I'd be putting it on my finger IMMEDIATELY--)

My thoughts on Love, Victor season 2 cause I have too many feelings and I need to talk about it.
Disclaimer No. 1. This has massive Love, Victor season 2 spoilers so pleaseeeee leave if you have not watched it. Also if you do not want to engage with it.
Disclaimer No. 2: This is my opinion on the season so if you don't agree please leave. Don't come for me. I don't mind having proper discussions but I don't want unnecessary arguments so thanks.
There are a lot of unpopular opinions so as I said earlier if you don't want to be respectful, please leave.
I absolutely adoooooooored this season. I think it met its potential quite well and I liked how it panned out. I felt it was brilliantly done. I know a lot of people don't agree with me but I actually saw that it was gonna be an acquired liking but yeah.
THIS POST WILL BE GETTING TO THE MORE MAJOR PARTS OF THE SEASON. MEANING VICTOR, RAHIM, BENJI AND VENJI.
Let's start with individual breakdowns.
Right of the bat we see that this season is gonna deal with Victor with the rest of the world. The first season was very internal and dealt with his own stuff in his own head. We very minutely see his interaction with different people and how that internally affects him. This season was more of how the outward world dealt with him. His intersectionality of being a Queer POC that plays sport really adds to the discussions within the queer community and the sense of being outcasted within the community. I liked how he was able to talk to Andrew about the whole being 'the most non gay gay' and also not being 'gay enough'. It was really nice and I loved that interaction. I also liked the fact that they discussed the whole aspect of being stressed about the first time and such.
I liked the full cabin sequence in terms of his anxiety about having sex for the first time. That too with an experienced gay. It all just makes sense and makes me glad that it was addressed.
I loved him as the 'mentor' for Rahim and the fact that they could relate to each other about being POC with religious parents I think was the exact push needed for the discussions to move forward.
I think his conversation about his queer experience as a POC with Rahim was something I have been waiting for since the first season. He definitely should not have revealed Benji's secrets without talking to him and that was a mistake on his part and something that will affect Venji in a long while. But the fact that Rahim and Victor relied on each other was not surprising.
I am going to address the rest of the aspects of Victor with regards to his relationships with each of them after their individual breakdown.
Now moving forward to Benji.
I know its gonna be a hard truth but I think his character was the one that I liked the least. And this is specific to the fact that his motivations are hidden from us. He is not really open to talk to us (through victor). I had the same problem with him in the first season and was hoping he would be fleshed out more. We only see him as an extension to Victor and just his boyfriend. Even then, we barely see him communicating with Victor or anybody else all through the time. Also, that being said, I have seen a lot of people say he was OOC but I think he was actually not really OOC. The way he reacts to Victor's mom's reactions although they come from a place of wanting better for Victor, he doesn't really think twice about why Victor must not be reacting or doing so subtly. He feels very unsympathetic on many occasions and that is a pattern we see from season 1.
I'm not saying he didn't have any troubles of his. Cause he definitely did. We know that with the drunken driving episode and the AA meetings and the strip club story. They were all awful, but that doesn't excuse him from trying to understand where Victor is coming from. Maybe having a little more context and communication about him would make us understand him and his motivations better.
This season specifically, I actually found him to be very token-ish of a gay guy which is weird because it has two other gay characters (or 5 based on the multiple cameos).
Now getting to Rahim.
I LOVED HIM. He is, I think right behind Victor in my heart. I fell in love with him barely minutes into the episode. His coming out retelling was the most wholesome of all things. I loved the friendship Pilar and him shared. I'm surprised we didn't get a scene with Pilar teasing him about his crush on Victor but I think that was because the writers didn't want to make it obvious. I felt he had a character of his own that was explored more than just coming in between the main couple. The one episode where they skip school we found out more about him and it was intriguing to say the least.
He is a Muslim gay boy who likes to put nail polish and fashion and believes that his parents will not accept him. It is soo refreshing to see this theory get denied and the parents being completely okay with it. Next, Victor and him have an interesting relationship between the two. When victor needs his mind to be taken off of things or talk to, Rahim does just that and when Rahim needs some advice or just some support Victor does that.
NOW VENJI.....
I think this is again... a little unpopular right now, but... their relationship was not that great this season. And I.... kinda expected that to happen. That is for multiple reasons. They spent 50% of their time making out, 40% of it fighting and 10% communicating. Were they flawed? Absolutely and I get that. They had massive miscommunication problems. Trust issues and everything under the moon. It is to be expected especially cause they are teenagers and they are not mature enough. That being said, flaws are not when you are dismissive of your boyfriend's issues because he doesn't fit your ideal gay stereotype. Flaws are not when you say your boyfriend is too much for you to handle and say something like you are the only one taking care of them. That's manipulation. Flaws are not when you don't realise that the context your boyfriend comes from is very specific to himself and if you want to do better you need to be open to listen to where he is coming from instead of getting offended by him saying you are white when you don't get the specifics. You need to understand that by saying you are white, he is not dismissing your experience with alcohol addiction and with your father taking you to strip clubs and shit. He is just saying you don't get where I am coming from. The reason I say I saw it coming is because even in season 1 we see Benji go ahead with what he wants to do instead of thinking about the consequences. Case in point the kiss on Victor's birthday. Victor told Benji that his grandparents are homophobic and still he kisses Derek. Because it is fiction and a teen drama the consequences weren't dire and it came to be a growth point for Victor but just imagine if the consequences were different. If it ended up being something worse, what then. I feel this season we are especially able to see Benji out of the rose tinted glasses that Victor had last season.
That being said I admit that Victor was also not entirely good. He did breach Benji's trust. I don't see how they can go back from there. He didn't communicate from his side as well, but just think of it like this if someone says you are too much to handle would their partner actually be willing to communicate what's bothering them?
The things about Isabelle walking on sex. If it was my house anything remotely sexual, irrespective of the gender would have been met with shame and anger just as Isabelle did. They are 16. The little brother was right next door. In any way whether it is straight sex or gay sex it would still have been met this way I feel.
So yeah as much as they are supposed to be the main star couple of the show they lack in almost every aspect. So yeah...
Now coming to VICTOR X RAHIM
Straight off the bat, I don't know if I watched the same season that others did because I actually felt the chemistry between them was actually more than Venji had in scenes other than the make out ones.
Also, they come from similar backgrounds. They understand each other much better than any white dude could ever understand them. They actually talk and communicate.
Rahim and Victor on the other hand are both new to this whole being gay, out and proud thing and I feel they would understand each other better. I think a big problem people have with them is that the writers fall back on the love triangle trope and stuff but I like it in this instance. It made sense to me.
Why? Because they are teenagers. Also, the gay pool in schools are so small and people are bound to explore. Like Victor said, what are the odds that you end up with the first person you start dating?
Also, regarding the wedding. Benji said he would not come, so I don't think he has the right to question who he came with. It was completely innocent on Victor's part because he did invite Pilar first. I guess it is the whole first slow dance that was the betrayal and as much as their chemistry was palpable I feel Benji should have allowed to here him out. I don't know maybe you all feel different about it but I feel that is not a betrayal on Victor's part. What could have been a betrayal was the kiss. I know it is once again a repeat of the cheating stereotype and I had hoped that the showrunner's did it a bit differently but well it has happened. (But again the chemistry in that kiss!!!)
What do I want to happen next. I definitely ship Victor x Rahim more than Victor x Benji. I would love for it to be Rahim behind the door but it feels unlikely that the showrunners will actually do that so my hope is even if they get together, Benji and Victor realise just how much they don't fit with each other and break up amicably and then Victor x Rahim gets explored and slow burn happens.
I don't want Victor to be the only one apologising if Venji do get together again. For whatever small amount of time. I need them to communicate better.
So yeah..... this was long and what I thought of the main portions of Love, Victor. It's really ironic how people love everyone other than Victor in a story about him and care for all the stories other than him.

Unattainable Things (Luke Patterson) Part 1
Summary: Luke's girlfriend had found out she was pregnant hours before they had died. 17 years later, their daughter is friends with Julie.
Words: 1.5k
Prompts:
A/N or Warnings: Hey! So I had to tweak the time frame a bit in order for this one shot idea to work. I hope you enjoy it.
Tumblr media
You were pregnant.
You took a look at the multiple pregnancy sticks on the counter and all said you were pregnant. You didn't know no idea what you were going to do. You didn’t have a lot of people in your corner only your boyfriend and his best friends. You didn't even know how he was gonna react to that the news that you're pregnant seeing as his band was about to blow up. He doesn't really have a support system either, because he left home when he was seventeen and is now twenty. You put your hands on the countertop and stared at yourself in the mirror. You don't know how long you stayed there till you heard the bathroom door knock. "Babe?"
You snapped yourself out of it and grabbed the test and hid them under the towels under the sink. You got up and closed the counter doors prior to turning around and opening the bathroom door. Luke looked at you with so much worry that filled his eyes. "Are you okay? You were in the bathroom for a really long time,"
You faked a smile and gave him a quick peck. "Yeah, I'm good,"
He watched you walk over to your shared bed. "Are you coming with us for rehearsals?
"Don't I always?
He smiled and walked over to you, kissed you and smiled at you again. "Yes,"
He walked out of the room and you sighed and laid down on your bed. You've heard footsteps, but you haven't turned your head and looked. "So are you?"
You turned your head to look at Reggie. "According to the test, that's a big y-e-s yes,"
Reggie leaned against the doorframe. "So when are you going to tell him?"
"I don't know. You're all having this big concert tonight and I don't want him to be distracted, but I don't know if I can keep it a secret".
Reggie nodded and remained silent for some time. "Every time you feel like telling him, scratch your arm and I'll do something,".
"Like what?"
"I don't know caw like a bird,"
You laughed at your boyfriend's best friend, who was more like your brother. "Yeah, you do that,"
-----
"Mom!"
You walked into the hallway to see your daughter walking downstairs with her music sheets and wearing her dad's old Rush shirt. You smiled every time you had seen her wearing it. Luke, Reggie and Alex have been dead for 17 years, and after they died, you made up with your parents. Her parents were a bit more sensitive because they lost their son, but they always liked their granddaughter, but your daughter really didn't want anything to do with them after she learned how they treated Luke what they said to her. She didn't really want to talk about his father because she said that although she didn't know him, talking about him was painful. "Yeah?"
"I'm gonna go over to Julie's today after school is that okay?"
Julie was one of her closest friends and she'd just lost her mother, so your daughter spent a lot of time with her. "Of course, Hunny, if you decide to stay overnight, send me a message,".
She nodded and gives you a quick peck on the cheek, says she loved you and runs out the door. She looks just like you but she is just like her dad. She inherited his talent and his love for music. She loves old bands more than the new bands. She is his mini me. Luke would have taken such pride in her.
Emily's POV:
As Emily was heading to Julie's house, she could hear music from the den, which was weird, because Julie was the only one who stayed in her house to play music, but she hadn't for a long time. You left your way to Julie's house and went to the den. You had knocked on the door and the music immediately stopped. No one answered. You opened the doors, you looked around and there was no one. "Julie?"
"What?"
Emily jumped and turned around and looked at Julie walking into the den. "Where you playing music from your speaker or something?"
Julie looked as if she was thinking for a good answer. "OH yeah. I saw you walking up and I had turned off the music from the house,"
You didn't buy it, but you still ignored it. "What were you playing? I've never heard it before,"
She shrugged. "I don't know, I had it on a random station,"
"So I heard you killed it the other day,"
"Yeah, I did,"
"Sorry, I missed it, but had to stay after in a class to retake a class,"
"Let me guess. Mr. Kingsley?"
Emily just nodded.
"He has it out for you. Every day, he calls you out for something that you didn't even do. 'Emily, stop talking,; 'Why are you laughing, Emily?"
Emily just laughed. "No idea,"
Emily didn't noticed the guy that was standing in front of her until he had said something to her.
Luke's POV:
The boys were playing a few chords, waiting for Julie to come back when there was knocking at the door. They knew it wasn't Julie so they stopped playing and then the door opened. Reggie, Alex and Luke all stared at Emily with total shock. Reggie's the one that talked first. "Are you guys seeing what I'm seeing? Does she look like-"
Alex was next. "Like Y/N?"
He saw Julie enter and started talking with the girl. Then the boys got to know Emily's name. Reggie took a look at the girl's shirt and realized it was Luke's shirt. "Oh,"
Luke didn't hear Reggie. He was too focused on that girl and how she looked so much like the girl he loved wildly seventeen years ago. It couldn't be Y/N. Is that her daughter?
Without thinking about it, he vanished and reappeared beside that girl. At first, she didn't notice anything until Luke said something that caused her to jump and trip over herself.
Julie reached out to help her get up and once she helped her and looked at her. "You can see them?"
Emily, obviously still freaked out nodded. Julie looked around at the boys and then back at you. "Am I not supposed to? What kind of question is that?"
"They're dead. They're ghosts,"
"There's no way. Wait? They're?"
The other two boys appeared beside Luke, who was still paying close attention to this girl. "Hi,"
"Hello,"
Emily shook her head. "I'm losing it. I'm really losing it. This isn't happening,"
"No, it is. They're a band from the ninety’s called Sunset Curve that died,"
"This is some kind of-wait did you say Sunset Curve?"
Luke stepped forward at this time. "You know us?"
By the time Emily had a chance to say something, Reggie beat her to it. "Emily, do you happen to know Y/N Y/L/N?"
"You mean my mom?"
Luke took a couple steps forward to Emily which she took two steps back. "How old are you?"
Before she could even say anything. Reggie sighs, walked up to him and places a hand on his shoulder. "Luke, meet your daughter,"
Luke removed Reggie's hand from his shoulder and looked into his eyes. "What?"
"Yeah....haha. Do you remember when Y/N was taking forever in the bathroom before we left to go to the Orpheum?"
Alex, who hadn't said a word for some time, didn't play with Reggie being slow. "Get to the point,"
"She did pregnancy tests and all of them were positive..."
Luke grabbed Reggie's shirt. "How long did you know?"
"Right after you left the bedroom after checking on her. She was gonna tell you after the show,"
Luke didn't tell Reggie but shook his finger at him, but turned to watch the girl he had just discovered was his daughter. He looked at her and for the first time noticed that she was wearing one of his old Rush shirts and one of his necklaces. He smiled at her, said she wore something of his. Then it hit him. She did not recognize him and it could only mean one thing... Y/N did not speak of him. She didn't, talk about him to their daughter. "Since, you didn't recognize me. I'm guessing your mom didn't talk about me?"
Emily shook her head. "No. She wanted to, but I told her no, because I didn't want to hear memories of my father I couldn't meet".
Luke wanted nothing more than to get to know his daughter. To know everything about her. To know if she's into music like he is or well was. Or was she like her mother who was more into writing? Was she close to her grandparents? He was going to ask him the same question aloud, but she got ahead of him. "I have a question,"
He took a step forward and went to reach out for his daughter, but stopped when he realized he couldn't. "Yes, anything?"
"How are you back?"
"We don't know. All we know is that Julie played our demo and it brought us back,"
Luke noticed that she was trying to figure out how to word this and almost looked like she was trying to hold back her tears. "So a girl, who didn't even know while you were alive, plays your CD and you come back, but not the cries of your girlfriend who basically disowned her family to be with you, and you were so in love with or the wishes of your daughter that you never got to meet? Dad of the year, huh?"
With that, she grabbed her backpack and took off running out of the den, tears flowing. "Emily!"

So I’mmina start this off by saying literally all your aus/drawing make me smile. They’re all so fascinating and sweet and so,SO well thought out! That being said, not to be that person that brings angst into a fluff buffet but... in your Movie Star Dad AU, do the boys every have mixed feelings about their father suddenly appearing in their lives after a prolonged absence? Also would Christof Von Bradford be an issue for the fam, considering his active competitive jerk energy he has with Lou?
Hi, thank you for your sweet words!!! I literally think about my rottmnt aus every waking moment, no joke, so I’m glad that you think they’re well thought out! I do my best! (also always bring angst. I always have a lot of angst in these au’s, I just also try to even it out with just as much fluff) The boys were YOUNG when Yoshi came into their lives, and each of them have their own perspectives on it, so at the time, they didn’t really have any huge negative feelings towards their situation before Yoshi found them because his absence wasn’t really,,, prolonged.
Mikey was literally a baby, barely a year old, so he doesn’t ever remember a time when Yoshi wasn’t in his life. Yoshi is the only parent Mikey really knows, and he’s completely fine with that. If Mikey has any mixed feelings, it’s towards his late mother, who he has absolutely no memories about, and only really knows her through the pictures Raph kept and the stories Raph and Yoshi would tell about her. He sometimes feels bad that he doesn’t feel as sad about her passing as Raph or Yoshi does, and he sometimes feels bad about not remembering her at all, but it’s also weird cause he knows he shouldn’t feel bad about it, cause he was too little to remember anything anyway and that’s not his fault, but the weird gross feelings in his stomach are there all the same when he thinks too hard about it. So he tries not to think about it. And just blissfully goes about his days with his doting dad and his overindulgent big brothers.
Raph was nervous and distrustful of Yoshi at first, because of course he was. He was 4 years old, sitting in a hospital bed alone with just his tiny baby brother in his arms, nursing a concussion and ugly road rash on his arms and legs while also nursing a broken heart after just losing mama. And then suddenly this man appears, the man in the movies that mama always loved to watch, except he’s not wearing the flamboyant jumpsuit he’s always wearing, but a maroon sweatshirt and old jeans. His signature styled pompadour and orange shades replaced with a disheveled ponytail and bags like bruises under his eyes. And a lot of people come and go throughout the next couple of weeks. Doctors and therapists and child services and lawyers and all of their faces begin to blend together in a dizzying swirl and Raph has a hard time focusing on anyone who isn’t Mikey. But the man stays the same. His face stays intact, and he follows them wherever they go. And then suddenly Raph and Mikey are allowed to go home with the man, and he tells them how he’s their dad. And how he didn’t know they existed, but he’s going to make up for all the lost time tenfold. And he promises he’s gonna love them enough for both him and their mama. Which Raph doesn’t think is possible, and so he’s suspicious and untrusting at first, cause no one can love them more than their mama did. But the man tries. Boy, does he try hard anyway. Tries to win every smiling giggle Mikey shoots at him and earn Raph’s faith that he’ll be there for them. That he’ll protect them. That he’s going to love them forever. And over the weeks and months, through every tantrum and screaming fit and long sleepless nights, he proves it, little by little. He stays. And he loves them. And Raph’s faith in the man grows with every bedtime story and piggyback ride and half-cooked pancake with too much syrup, and Raph’s guard slowly goes down until it’s fully surrendered over to this man who is their dad, and it’s never raised again.  Donnie knows the routine. He’s been through it approximately 27 and a half times before, through all the foster care homes. A new family takes him in. He messes up something. The new family gives him back. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. He’s been here before. He knows this isn’t going to last long, despite all the promises the man with the thick accent says. And Donnie doesn’t really register that this man was his biological father. He doesn’t really care to, to be honest. What was the point? His own biological mother had willingly gotten rid of him, Donnie’s snuck a peek at his record, he knew it all. So what if this man was his dad. That didn’t mean anything. He was gonna get tired of Donnie the same way all the other parents did. Tired of the constant questions. Tired of the broken appliances and half baked reasons why he took them apart in the first place, because apparently “I wanted to see how they worked” wasn’t a good enough answer. And Donnie was three years old and smarter than anyone ever gave him credit for and you know what? He was tired of it too. Tired of getting his hopes of a family finally understanding and accepting him. Tired of wanting a family who would love him back. Tired of getting his heart broken time and time again. So he wasn’t going to get his heart broken this time. He wasn’t going to accept anything of this man, with two boys already that shared Donnie’s eyes, and he wasn’t going to let himself be the fool again. And as the weeks went by, this cold shoulder game he was playing was getting harder and harder to keep, because dangit, this man really did try everything to prove that he was the real deal. The forever family. And Donnie’s new ‘brothers’ were always bright-eyed and curious about everything Donnie did and said, and actually wanted to play his weird word games and puzzles and wanted to spend time with him, and Donnie felt something short circuit in his brain because he wasn’t used to this feeling in his chest. This warm and light feeling. Something must be overheating in whatever engine was running inside of Donnie’s chest, and Donnie didn’t have a clue how to fix it. He also didn’t know if he wanted to fix it. But of course, it didn’t matter anyway. Because Donnie messed up. It was bound to happen eventually, Donnie got to brazen with how comfortable he was getting in the large house, and when he was running in the hallways, chasing after Raph in an impromptu game of tag, he accidentally slipped and knocked into the t.v stand, sending it straight to the floor where it broke into a hundred different pieces of glass and tiny wired parts. Donnie was mortified, knowing this would definitely send him back, and he got on his hands and knees and tried to collect the parts and put it back together but there was no time. The man that Donnie was half tempted to call dad half the time was already in the room, searching for the source of the loud crash and when his eyes finally landed on Donnie and the broken t.v behind him, Donnie couldn’t help but burst into tears. And he tried to explain, tried to apologize and he promised he’d fix it, he promised, he’d fix it up brand new and then the man wouldn’t have to send Donnie back. He’d be good. He’d fix this. He promised. Just please don’t send him back. And Donnie didn’t see the way the man’s body flinched at Donnie’s sobbed confession, and didn’t see the man lurch from where he was standing to pick Donnie up and hold him in a tight embrace saying all kinds of things that didn’t make sense to Donnie. Because the man was supposed to be angry. Angry like all the other parents eventually were. Angry and disappointed and tired, not... well... whatever this was. Which was holding him close, and running shaking hands through his hair and rubbing circles into his back and saying “Are you ok? Did you get hurt anywhere? Did you touch the glass? Shhh, shhhh, it’s ok buddy, breathe, you’re ok. You’re not in trouble. You don’t have to fix anything. It’s just a t.v. As long as you’re unhurt, then it’s ok. You’re ok, sweetheart. I got you.” And Donnie could feel the man press kisses into Donnie’s hairline that made the 3-year-old cry even harder, and press his face farther into his dad’s shirt as he clung to him for dear life. Because it’s never been just ‘ok’ before. Never. And for the first time, Donnie was starting to learn that with this family, with this man, being ‘ok’ might just work out after all.
When Leo meets Yoshi for the first time, it’s with a heart already filled to the brim with excitement and acceptance as he fully lets him into his life. Because Leo’s 3, and doesn’t know where he came from like most of the other kids in the halfway home. All he knows is that he’s always lived in this cramped house, sharing a room with a broken AC unit with 4 other boys around his age that just loved picking on Leo because of how small he was and how his skin was two different colors. He’s used to the house, and strict rules about eating and playtime, and the mean older kids that come and go while Leo always stays. He doesn’t want to be used to it, but he is, and his lonely daydreams and nights wishing upon all the stars in the sky are filled with thoughts about a life where he gets to leave this place. Dreams about a mom and dad or even a cool uncle or caring grandparents or literally anyone, coming and rescuing him and taking him far away from this place. Dreams about finding a home, with someone there calling him theirs. Belonging to someone, and having someone belong to him too. And then on a dusty and warm afternoon, that very person showed up, and Leo smiles at him hard enough to hurt his face. And he was looking for Leo, Leo specifically, not someone around Leo’s age or who looked like Leo, but actually Leo. And the man wanted Leo. Wanted him like no one had ever wanted him before. And wanted to take him home and call Leo his forever and Leo would have thought he was still dreaming if he hadn’t kept pinching himself the entire 6-hour flight to New York. And not only did Leo get a dad, but he got 3 brothers as well! 3 brothers, who all looked different than Leo but shared his brown eyes all the same, and didn’t mind that Leo talked a lot or made a lot of jokes and didn’t bully him for being or looking ‘weird’ like the other boys he grew up with did. And even though dad says that Leo’s his, and Raph and Donnie and Mikey want to hang around and play with him, Leo still finds himself pinching himself every night just in case. Because this is almost too good to be a dream. It couldn’t be real, right? Did Leo deserve this? Was it really his to have? To call his own? Was a kid like him, who grew up with nothing, who grew up as a nothing, allowed to have everything, and be somebody worth keeping around? Leo wasn’t sure, but if this was a dream, it was the best one he’d ever had, and he hopes he doesn’t wake up from it anytime soon.

Andddd here’s my chappy three thoughts 🥳🥳🥳
Tumblr media
Hmmm Katniss saying that her mother has a dress made of velvet is actually really interesting because it shows that Mrs. Everdeen Lily-Rose really was well-er off before she married Katniss’ father Hunter.
Or did she get the velvet dress from Maysilee? Oh well, who knows.
Aww, Katniss’ nervous habit of touching soft things repeatedly to soothe herself 🤧🤧.
“Crying is not an option. There will be more cameras at the train station.” — someone tell that to Peeta 🤣🤣🤣.
Okay I gotta stop picking on Primmers, I know but like. How small is she that she sits on Katniss’ lap like a toddler but then in the following year is the same height as her? Doesn’t matter I know but still I wonder.
Okay so Mrs. E is the doctor for the people of the Seam? Idk I never thought about this but who does people like Peeta or Madge or Delly go to if they’re sick or hurt? Is there a still running apothecary shop that Katniss never mentions? Are her grandparents still running the family biz?
Also okay, I gotta stop having so many thoughts on all the lil details I know but like. Katniss says here she’s familiar with the herbs her mother doesn’t grow on her own so like a). Katniss is more of a healer than she leads on because no average person knows what kind of plant is medicinal and b). Her mother is just growing herbs and Katniss never mentions it again in the whole series? Or I just missed it.
Okay imma move on from this one singular paragraph but Gale and her made a pact a year ago that they’ll supply each other’s family with game if they were to be reaped... I’m feeling like their close friendship is probably only one year old then? Idk. Just my interpretation.
Honestly I love Katniss getting mad at her mom here.
She’s sixteen, for God’s sake, of course she’s angry at what her mother’s illness put her through.
Also I lowkey like that her mother got mad back because that lady in the movies had zero personality.
“Boys who are two to three times my size.” She sounds so little, omg 🥺🥺🥺.
“I don’t care if we’re rich, I just really want you to come home” 🤧🤧🤧😩😩😩😩 okay Primmers, you got me here.
“the Peacekeeper is at the door, signaling our time is up, and we're all hugging one another so hard it hurts and all I'm saying is ‘I love you. I love you both.’ And they're saying it back...” this is so sad leave me be 😫😫😫😫
Katniss is burying her face in a pillow to block out her emotions this is too much for me 🥵🥵🥵
Omg I forgot Peeta’s father visits Katniss 😅
Why does he visit Katniss?
She describes Peeta’s father as a “big, broad-shouldered man.” And then describes Peeta as stocky. Idk the comparison of the two descriptions has always led me to think Peeta is gonna be a big dude when he grows up like his father. This made no sense and had zero correlation but I thought, so I said it, no regrets
Oh he brought her cookies 🤧
WAIT WAIT WAIT. I just had a new thought, y’all. What if instead of the baker bringing cookies being a thing he does for all tributes, what if he’s bringing the cookies because Peeta asked him to, because he made them and wants to give them to Katniss and knows she’ll never accept / trust them coming from her competition? What if that’s the real reason the baker visited her in the first place? Because Peeta asked him to? This was such a shipper comment but idc, no regrets, remember?
Omg Peeta’s father is just mute 🤣🤣🤣
Between an abusive, angry mother and a mute for a father, the Mellark brothers must have had a fairytale of a childhood 😅😅😅😅.
But seriously #PoorPeetaMyBaby
Aww Peeta’s father is gonna help keep Prim alive 😭
Omg I just remembered he’s her mother’s ex boyfriend. Haidon Mellark, as I named him in my fics.
That one fic where he was thought to be Prim’s real father is just playing now in my head, rent free.
But does Katniss not realize that he may be offering to help Prim as a favor to her? Like she claims Prim is just so wonderful people adore her but there’s like zero evidence in the text that make her endearing? Okay I need to turn this bus around, I need to find a love for Primmy Deen.
Madge is not one for preamble apparently. No “hi, how are you? I’m sorry you’re gonna die? What will your last meal be?” Just right to “here, wear this family heirloom of mine, k thanks.”
I like that Madge had to kiss her cheek for Katniss to realize they were friends 😅😅😅.
I remember always loving her and Gale’s hug here. I’ve always felt like it was platonic, but especially when I first read the books and had zero preference one way or another for Gale or Peeta, I really liked how she said even with nothing romantic between them, “when he opens his arms, I don’t hesitate to go to him” or something I’m paraphrasing ok I’m lazy
Also though, this is the first time they’ve ever hugged? Idk why that surprises me? It shouldn’t because where is a hug gonna fit into a hunting trip 😅🤣😂 “I just caught a deer!” “let’s celebrate with a hug!”
I like that Katniss remembers how her father even failed to make a good bow sometimes. Random, I know.
I like that the Capitol weren’t entertained by the people freezing to deaths because it wasn’t bloody enough 🤭🙃
“How different can it be [to kill a human vs an animal]?” She’s about to find out, Gale 🥺. And when she comes back you won’t understand 🙄😔
What did Gale want to say before the Peacekeepers dragged him away?
I used to think it was a confession of love but I’m actually sure it wasn’t now? Just the wording “remember I-“ doesn’t sound like it, considering he never confessed anything prior to her coming home.
I’m assuming now he was just gonna give her some more advice to stay alive 🤷🏼‍♀️. Clearly if it were relevant it would have made its way to the others books.
Aww, she’s never been inside a car before 😭😭. I didn’t even know they had cars in this universe but okay.
I notice though how she says “In the Seam, we travel on foot.” So is Peeta just riding his trolly down the street every day with the other merchants then? 🤣
Peeta just openly crying on camera 😅😢.
I like how Katniss is like “ooo is this an act to get sponsors?” when in reality Peeta’s like “no, I’m just a soft and genuine boy ™️”
Omg I just realized this totally goes along with Peeta’s thing later on “I want to die as myself”
He’s refusing to hold back his emotions because he thinks he’s doomed to die and he’s already refusing to pretend to be or feel something ingenious.
But a Johanna mention in book 1 chapter 3 woohoo 🥳🥳🥳 also Katniss comparing Jo and Peeta is kind of like foreshadowing of their shared torture in book 3.
Omg she just called Peeta broad-shouldered and strong. 🥰🥰🥰 my headcanon for his post-canon body is confirmed
Also why does Katniss keep allotting his strength to carrying bread trays around? Are they heavy? Why have I never once heard of people who carry bread trays being strong? I always thought Peeta was really strong because he learned to fight in order to defend himself against his mother but that’s probably wrong.
But if a mother is abusive, it can lead to one of the kids being physically violent as well and we know Peeta isn’t but he has two older brothers I’m gonna cut myself off now but I think we all smelled what I just stepped in.
Also I just find it so fascinating now how she regards herself vs Peeta here.
When talking about herself, she says, “The competition will be far beyond my abilities. [...] Oh, there'll be people like me, too. People to weed out before the real fun begins.” But when she talks about Peeta, she immediately says, “It would take an awful lot of weeping to convince anyone to overlook him.”
It’s just funny how she discounted herself right from the start but thought he was a real contender and then come to find out, Peeta believes it’s the exact opposite 😂🙃. They’re both so stupid I can’t even take it.
Wait did they actually give the location of the Capitol and the location of District Twelve in today’s world? And I just overlooked it? Brb I’m gonna go to google maps right quick.
Okay so basically what I gathered is the Capitol is probably in New Mexico and District Twelve is somewhere between Kentucky and Alabama. Irrelevant I know. But just a reminder now to everyone that Katniss and Peeta are literally speaking, crying and screaming in thick, backwoods southern accents.
It’s literally so sad how everything for Katniss is about food. Like every motive she has, every action she does is about preventing starvation ever again. 🤧🤧🤧
First mockingjay mention 🤭🤭.
“My father was particularly fond of mockingjays” 😭😭😭 I bet he was 😭😭😭😭
We always go on and on about how Katniss is a mockingjay or her children are mockingjays but Katniss herself here says mockingjays represent her father imma cry, y’all 😫😫😫😫
“It’s like having a piece of my father with me, protecting me” shut up shut up shut up shut up
Awww, Katniss has never had food like this before 😔😔😔
Neither has Peeta 🤧🤧
Katniss disliking the way Effie put the two kids from the year before down and so began to eat like a pig just to prove her point, is so her. And the beginning of her fighting for the underdog.
Omg the Rue introduction 🥺🥺🥺
Bahahahaha the commenters calling District Twelve backwards but charming 😅😅😅 they really are the hillbilly district
Peeta’s unexpected laugh 🥺🥺🥺 I love you, baby
“He was drunk. He’s drunk every year.” “Every day.” Katniss and Peeta are already finishing each other’s sentiments and teaming up to get on Effie’s nerves I love them so much 😍
Oh my God, Effie, you selfish jerk. They’re kids having fun for like one second, no need to throw in their faces they’re gonna die if the drunk won’t help them. I’d forgotten why I don’t really like the book version of her. I actually prefer her as comedic relief in the movies.
I actually just realized I really dislike Effie Trinket, I hope they never speak to her again Post-Mockingjay. Idc how you’re raised you don’t need to treat teenagers who are sentenced to a probable death badly just because they laughed at you 🙄🙄🙄😡😡😡😡. They didn’t even really laugh at her, she’s just annoying and awful, we don’t stan Effie in this household.
Okay, that’s all for my thoughts on chapter three! Until next time, y’all ! If anyone actually read this long mess of a post.

Oathkeeper, Chapter 3
Thank you: @veryverynotgood my phenomenal beta--you keep me going when I'm busy wallowing in doubt, and you make me less of a walking run-on (hooray!).
Bless y'all: the CSMM Discord crew--it's like a community of flails, encouragement, and collaboration...such magic!
Head's up: No description of violence nor abuse; however, they are mentioned.
AO3 Links: Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3
Most days, Killian occupied himself either by helping Granny with the more physically taxing chores around the inn and diner or on board his ship ensuring her seaworthiness. Granted, the Jolly was in top form and she certainly had no need of repairs nor did she have a heading before her; but it quieted his mind to see to her every need and to painstakingly mend every frayed hem of a sail and worn bit of paint. Lately, he’d taken to wandering Storybrooke as Granny increasingly gave tasks over to young Felix.
The boy was coming along, a bit less surly now. Killian was certain this was due to Ruby’s unending praise of his efforts--no sixteen year-old lad could resist her charms. He’d had a hard time containing his laughter when he witnessed the latest scene: Ruby, clad in a button-down shirt she must have sewn onto herself each morning, batting her eyes at young Felix as she asked for his help bringing up kegs from the cellar. The boy had practically tripped over his own feet as he scrambled to assist, then struggled mightily as he puffed up the stairs with a metal cylinder that likely outweighed his slight frame. Killian had watched as Felix professed the task “no problem”, but had also seen his eyes widen to immense saucers when Ruby cheerfully called there were only “five more to go”. At that, Killian offered his assistance quietly, assuring the boy Ruby would never know that he had not fulfilled the task single-handedly. She was occupied cleaning up after the lunch crowd filtered out, so Killian helped Felix make short work of the task before ducking out the back and allowing the young man credit for the entire endeavor.
Today, however, there was little for him to do and it made Killian antsy. He took to wandering the shore as his mind drifted to the Crocodile, the Princess, and the confusion of his present state of affairs. His increasingly cloudy thoughts were interrupted by a shouted “Ahoy, Captain Hook!” and Killian’s eyes snapped to a strange wooden contraption where young Henry Mills stood, waving to him and grinning from ear to ear.
“Good afternoon,” he sketched a brief bow to the boy as he stepped up to what he now realized was Henry’s castle. Emma had mentioned it in passing as the place the young lad took refuge in his own thoughts, an all-too-familiar notion for Killian. “I was given to understand this time of day was set aside for studies, lad. Or am I mistaken?” He raised an eyebrow up at the boy who shook his head, informing Killian school had ended an hour ago.
“My moms are busy though,” he explained simply. “Regina has a meeting with someone who wants to open a new store, and Emma is in the mines because ‘ the dwarves are flipping out about some property rights ’.” Killian chuckled at the boy’s impression of his mother. He was invited into Henry’s castle where the two sat and looked out at the waves lapping against the shore. At first, the conversation was largely Henry reporting out about his school day. It seemed he was struggling with something math-related, and while Killian’s formal schooling was long behind him, he did offer the boy assistance.
“If, that is, your parents will allow it,” he added quickly, unsure where he stood in the strange dynamic of this town and particularly this family.
Henry snorted at that. “Regina might get weird about it, but she’s trying to make up for the whole...Evil Queen thing, so I think I can manage one mom. The other mom…” he shrugged “I don’t think she’d mind as long as I’m not asking her the math questions. She said it was her least favorite subject in school.”
Killian steeled himself for his next question, taking a deep breath and levelling his gaze at Henry. “And your father?”
Henry made a face at that. “I don’t really know,” he admitted in a tone Killian couldn’t quite decipher. “He was supposed to pick me up from school today,” Henry tucked up his knees and rested his chin on them in a pose Killian had seen Emma take up as well. It seems they both made themselves smaller in these moments of questioning.  “I don’t know if he forgot, or if something came up...I don’t think he knows what to do with me.” Henry peeked up at Killian, looking so uncertain of himself that it nearly broke the man’s heart. He knew what it was to feel on uneven ground with one’s father, to feel more a burden than a blessing, and he refused to allow Henry’s mind to wander those dark halls. While he could offer no real comfort when it came to the man Neal seemed determined to remain, he could offer a promising distraction that should spark young Henry’s curiosity.
“Well, whatever may be delaying him, it certainly has come at an opportune moment for me. Would you care to join me on board the Jolly , Master Mills? It’s past time she received an inspection from a keen eye such as yours.” The boy’s face lit up immediately and he jumped up, grabbing a device from his jacket pocket. After a moment’s pause, Killian heard a tinny version of Emma's voice as Henry hurriedly explained the plan to his device, suppressing a smile as Henry rolled his eyes at his mother’s questions.
“Yes, we’ll stay in the harbor,” he glanced at Killian who nodded along. “Yes, I will stay away from the railing and listen to everything--did you just call him Killian ? That’s weird, Mom, he’s a Captain...well, you’re supposed to address him by title because it’s his ship, of course…yes, yes, no….Mom, I’m not gonna die. I’m gonna go around the harbor with a master sailor…”
Killian knew the lad had won out when a rushed series of ‘thank you’s’ left his mouth before he tucked the device away once more. “She says, ‘tell The Captain that if you come back with one hair out of place, I’ll shave his off with David’s longsword’. She’s just being weird, I know we’re gonna be great--let’s go!” The lad took hold of Killian’s hook and led him down the small stairs onto the sand, setting off in the direction of his ship.
Once aboard, Henry was clearly overcome with curiosity. His return trip from Neverland hadn’t afforded him much time to explore or ask questions. In fact, he’d largely been asleep from pure exhaustion. For Killian, the afternoon with Henry was a remarkable chance to see his ship through the eyes of another. The boy’s questions seemed endless, and while they started with simple questions of identification--what parts of the rigging were called, the names of the various decks and quarters--they quickly expanded to encompass how everything came together to make her sail. His enthusiasm was infectious, and it brought Killian so fully out of his earlier sour mood that it nearly felt like Henry had his own kind of magic.
“Okay, but how do you get up to the crow’s nest?” Henry scrutinized the location through narrowed eyes. Killian stepped in behind him, pointing out the most logical route through the rigging. “Cool! Can I try?”
“I...don’t think that’s wise, lad. I prefer my head firmly attached, and your mother may well remove it if she finds out I let you free-climb the rigging.” Henry turned to face him, a mischievous smirk on his face as he intoned that she didn’t have to know about it.
“While I appreciate the enthusiasm, I need her to like me far better than she does before I conspire against her wishes. A rogue can only get away with so much when it comes to the tenacity of a mother,” he winked, and hoped like hell the boy would let it go. Of course, as Emma’s child he should have known that would be improbable at best.
“Oh, she likes you well enough.” Killian furrowed his brow at this while Henry grinned. Obviously the lad knew how to catch his attention, though just how aware he was of what Killian felt for Emma was still unclear-- the notorious Captain Hook, bested by a child . “You earned a ton of points with her in Neverland,” Henry clarified. “I know she didn’t tell me everything, but she did tell me you saved my grandpa, and I already know you saved me. Since she just got this part of her family back, you gotta know that earned you like...a million points in her eyes. You could totally stand to lose a few of them and teach me how to get up there.”
It took Killian another five minutes to finally persuade Henry that rather than risk a broken arm, or worse, he should simply ask Emma for permission before he learned to scout from above. The cost of negotiations wasn’t much, Henry simply wanted to learn to steer the ship, and so Killian guided him in his quest as they toured the harbor together. The lad had adventure in his blood, that much Killian was certain of, and it seemed he just might be falling in love with the sea as well. The idea tugged at Killian’s heart, as did the pure joy he saw in the boy’s face when they returned to port after the successful little journey.
After receiving a message on his device, Henry mentioned needing to return to his grandparents’ loft, and Killian was happy to escort him, listening to Henry’s re-telling of their afternoon on the Jolly and basking in the shared moment. To hear Henry tell it, you’d think they’d travelled across a realm or two rather than simply around Storybrooke’s small harbor.  He wondered how the boy would tell it to his mother and what she would think. Would she be angry at Killian and think he had overstepped? Would Henry mention his father’s neglect today?
His thoughts were interrupted when they arrived at the door and Henry flung his arms around Killian. He hesitated only a moment before returning the fierce embrace. “Thanks, Captain,” the boy grinned up at him. “Next time, I’m going up that rigging though. And I’m learning how to use your spyglass up there, right? I wanna see everything--as far out as I can!”
Killian chuckled, “So long as you have it in writing from your mother, aye lad.”
---
Two nights later, Killian awoke to someone pounding on his door in the middle of the night and he bolted upright, grabbing his hook from the bedside table as he crossed the pitch-black room. He swung the door open to reveal a distraught Emma Swan, her eyes red-rimmed and puffy, and her fingers tapping an uneven rhythm at her side.
“I didn’t know where else to go, but I couldn’t stay in that loft for another minute,” she explained, voice cracking. “Can I come in?”
Killian stepped aside, allowing her to pass before he followed and shut the door behind them, clicking on the lamp by the bed and sitting down. There was little room, and she took a spot near him on the bed, her right leg bouncing as she stared down at the floor. He gave her a moment, but when she showed no signs of relaxing he gently spoke her name, “Swan?” Her leg stilled and she looked up, tears tracking down her cheeks. “Swan, what’s wrong?”
As he waited for her response, Killian wracked his memory--what had happened over the course of the last few days? He’d seen her in the diner each morning when she picked up her coffee and there had been no hint of whatever was on her mind. He’d run into her at the library when Henry was doing research for a school project and he was reading up on this realm’s history, but she’d been perfectly fine and that was only yesterday. They’d even discussed finding volunteer work for Felix as he was starting to grate on Granny’s nerves, Swan mentioning it may be best if the boy also enrolled in school. What could have changed so much since yesterday? He searched her eyes and waited, hoping she would reveal the problem in due time.
“I yelled at them,” she murmured at last, dropping her eyes back to the floor.
“Pardon? At whom?” He’d seen Emma yell at a fair number of people, himself chief among them, and didn’t recall her reacting in this way before.
“My parents,” she clarified, “I yelled at Snow White and Prince Charming of all people, and I know I hurt them...she was crying when I left the loft, but I was just...I was so angry with them that I couldn’t, I mean, I can’t be there right now.” She sniffed, and Killian saw her shoulders start to shake. He took a risk, trying his hand at comfort when he slipped an arm around her shoulders and to his surprise she willingly leaned into him. Silence fell between them. He knew there was far more to the story, but wanted to let her move at her own pace and tell it in her way rather than pry it out of her.
She wiped her eyes and took a few slow, deep breaths. “I’m sorry I woke you up,” she started, “I don’t know what I was doing, I just had to get out and you were the only person I thought might answer the door this late.”
“Always available to help a lady in distress, Swan,” he tried a light jest and was rewarded with poke to his ribs. “Oww--just going to wake a man up and bruise him in his own room?” He pulled back to smile at her and she immediately scooted away, a blush blossoming on her cheeks. It was then he realized they’d never shared a touch that gentle and intimate. Yes, they had kissed-- and gods what a kiss it was --but moments before he’d been granted permission to hold her. It was just the two of them in the quiet hours of the night, and she had spent these vulnerable moments cradled against his bare chest. He cleared his throat and asked softly, “What was it that upset you so? Is there something I can do to help?”
She shook her head, tucking her legs under her as she chewed her bottom lip. With a huff, she continued. “They asked if I wanted to have family dinner, and that’s kind of...new, but I went with it. So Regina dropped Henry at the loft and I thought it was going to be--anyway, it wasn’t what I thought. Neal showed up ten minutes later.” She was picking at the quilt on the bed and wouldn’t meet Killian’s eyes, probably for the best given the sneer he couldn’t quite hide. “I didn’t want to make a scene in front of Henry, so I just went along with things at dinner. I figured I could deal with a couple of hours, plus the kid is a hell of a buffer and good at keeping everyone talking, but I know he didn’t show up the other day when you and Henry went sailing. I know when Henry talks Neal only half listens.” She paused for a long while, and Killian crossed the room, offering her the flask he pulled from the pocket of his greatcoat.
She took a swig and rolled her shoulders, visibly trying to relax before turning back to face him. After a soft word of thanks, she continued. “When Henry left, Neal stuck around. My parents offered him a nightcap and asked if he’d like to stay over .” It didn’t take the experience of Dr. Hopper to see she was disturbed by this. “And I lost it. I am so sick of their meddling, and their bizarrely perfect vision of him that I completely snapped. I spit out the whole story--”
Killian sat up straighter at this, aware she’d built up momentum and certain he was about to have another piece of the puzzle that was Emma Swan click into place.
“How he’d preyed on a goddamn homeless teenager, offering her shelter when he knew she didn’t have any of her own. How he knocked up a fucking seventeen year old and left her to rot in jail for his crimes, never bothering to admit his own guilt, never checking in to learn he’d fathered a child,” her tears flowed freely and her eyes blazed like emerald fire. “I told them the truth. That he was a predator, and I was too young and stupid to know better, and that I didn’t have the luxury of having anyone to warn me about people like him, of having anyone who cared enough to see the situation for what it was.”
Her breathing hitched and Killian instinctively reached for her, pulling her into a tight embrace and stroking her hair as she lost the final shreds of her composure. She sobbed against him and he murmured to her small comforts, that it would be all right and she didn’t have to be alone. After a while, her sobs diminished, lessening to sniffles and gasping breaths. He rubbed slow circles on her back and she finished her tale, tone empty and defeated, “I told them exactly what I finally realized: that I was abused by the man they keep inviting into our family, and that I cannot be in that place if they really think I’m supposed to patch things up with him and act like none of this happened, like it didn’t matter that he used me and threw me away.”
His heart broke for her, eyes stinging with unshed tears as he listened to the culmination of her loss and pain. “I don’t know how to face them again,” she mumbled against Killian’s chest, sagging against him in complete exhaustion. He assured her she needn’t think of that now, that what she needed was rest. And he offered to share the space with her. She nodded quietly, taking the offered shirt and pants and leaving to change in the adjoining bathroom.
Killian lay back, propped up on a pillow while his mind processed all she’d told him. He knew without a doubt her parents would mend this relationship, though it may well take time. He knew as well that whatever he’d promised Neal, that oath had been needless. In fact, the larger problem Killian now faced was how to make it through the next twenty-four hours without gutting Neal with his hook. The man had taken advantage of Emma, had framed her for his crime, and had abandoned her. It seemed Bae had become his father after all, and that did not bode well for him in Killian’s eyes.
His violent contemplations were interrupted by a bashful looking Emma, clad all in his own black attire and softly padding across the small room. “I’ll take the side by the door, Swan. Old habits, you know,” he nodded toward the cutlass by the bed and his hook which once again lay atop the nightstand. She smiled sheepishly as she slid under the covers next to him, offering a soft word of thanks and curling up with her back to him. He clicked off the light, desperately hoping she couldn’t hear the pounding of his heart as Killian tried like hell to fall back asleep.

Rosey Inn
Summary: Ten years ago you left your small town and small-town boyfriend believing you were destined for bigger and better things. But when your mom passes away and leaves the family Inn to you, you’re forced to face all you left behind.
Pairing: Roommate!Bucky x Reader
Warnings: Maybe two curse words, fluff, angst, loss of parent
Word Count: 6.5k
A/N: This was written for @wxntersoldiers 6k AU Challenge, I had the prompt Roomates!AU.
Also a huge thank you to @starbxcks for beta reading this. Love you to pieces. (PS spot the gilmore girl reference and i’ll love you forever)
Tumblr media
This was not the plan. None of this was the plan. Your entire life had meticulously put together to reach one goal. And now? Now you’re sharing a house with a boy you haven’t seen in a decade, back in your home town, and owning an inn.
Talk about cliche.
The town of Rose Hill is quaint. One supermarket, one high school, everyone knows everyone’s name quaint. The people are kind and overly lax in security and come together for events. It sits near a beautiful lake and is known for its tourism. The kind of place people dream of living. The perfect American lifestyle.
Just not your dream. Since you were little you wanted one thing. To be a big shot New York lawyer. The kind that people know will get them off for any crime, and anything. You were going to be the success story of Rose Hill, the one to get out. The one to make it.
And you did. Got accepted into an Ivy League, finished school, and joined a practice. Until you got the phone call, that your mom passed away and left the family business to you. There went all your plans, all your dreams, everything. You were right back where you started in Rose Hill.
The Rosey Inn was a landmark, built long before your grandparents were even born. Passed down through generations of L/Ns. Each owned/managed the inn and raised their families in it. You spent your childhood hiding in the maids closet, tasting the chef’s recipes, tending to the front garden, and reorganizing the books in the front room.
You didn’t play alone though, you had Bucky. Bucky Barnes was your best friend and eventual boyfriend. His mom was a maid for the inn, and the pair of you grew up together. He was your everything and first love. But when you left for New York you wanted a fresh start, one that didn’t include the boy who’s life aspirations were to own a hardware store. So you dumped him and left, without saying goodbye.
Your past was but a distant memory. Until you were back and looking at the familiar inn.
“Y/N! Oh, how I missed you!” you hear the voice of Wanda, your best friend say.
“What are you doing here!” you ask greeting the red-headed girl. She had moved here Junior year of high school and you became fast friends. She was the only one you had contact with after leaving.
“Well, I took over as nighttime manager. And when I heard about your mom I decided to fill in on daytime until you could move back. I’m so sorry about her Y/N,” she says with sincerity in her voice.
“She’s been sick for a while, I’m just happy she’s out of pain now,” you say and pull her into a hug.
“I’ll let you settle in, then tomorrow we can go over the inn and what needs to happen.”
“Thank you Wanda for everything,” you say and head to the house.
The inn set back from the road, with plenty of space in front for parking and picnic areas. Behind it sat a large outdoor eating area, and a gazebo. But if you take the trail to the left, it leads to your childhood home. A three-bedroom house, with two floors and far enough to not be part of the inn, but close enough you could be there in case of an emergency.
You expected the place to be overgrown and in need of a cleaning, but it looked as new as the day it was built. And a car was out front.
When you get closer to the house the door opens and you swear you jump ten feet into the air, only to hear the voice of the one person you hoped to avoid.
“Been a while sugar,” he says smiling.
James Buchanan Barnes looks as good as he did ten years ago when you abandoned him. No scratch that, he looked better. The years did him good, his jaw was more chiseled and light scruff covered his face. His arm filled out and he wore a button-down. He looked refined, older but damn good looking.
“Sure has handy boy,” you smile back. “What are you doing in my home.”
“Must have your lines crossed, I live here now,” he says mischief across his face and eyebrow raised.
“In my childhood home?” you ask perplexed.
“Your momma was having a tough time the past few years and needed some help. She said I could live here if I helped her out. And when she got sick she put the house in my name too, saying you would need just as much, if not more, help when you got back.”
“So we’re roommates?” you ask hoping this was all a joke.
“Sure are,” he smiles, “let me help you with your bag.”
“I have movers coming in a few days with the rest of my things, just brought enough until then.”
You walk into the home and it’s not the dusty and doily place you remember it. The furniture is all-new, and the decor is modern. The living room has a grey fabric couch with navy throw pillows and a coffee table with a cookbook and tray on it. There’s a sleek floor lamp next to it and a flat-screen tv across atop a tv stand with movies neatly packed inside. A soft rug is on the floor with a diamond pattern on it. The entire room looks like a page from a catalog and if your suspicions are right the rest of the house is as follows.
“I took the guest bedroom when I moved in, so your old bedroom is still yours,” he says and you nod heading up the stairs following him to your childhood bedroom. When he opens the door you see it’s the one room that hasn’t changed. It still looks as it did when you were 18 years old and leaving to be on your own.
“I’m gonna have to update this room!” you say pointing to the outdated poster on your wall.
“Your mom didn’t want to change it, she insisted it remains the way you left it,” he says with a sad smile. You may have lost your mom, but that didn’t mean he didn’t lose her too.
“So many memories in this room,” you say and let a few flood back. Bucky’s cheeks heat up and you look down ashamed. He had to be thinking of the time the two of you first made love. You were 17, had the house to yourself, and did what you could on the small twin bed.
“I’ll leave you to settle in, then we could get dinner?” he asks and you nod. You unpack the few outfits you brought along and mentally map out what furniture you’ll replace with the one from your apartment. After getting a little bit of the initial shock of being back, you sit down and take a deep breath. Not only were you going to be running an inn, but apparently you were going to be roommates with the only man you’ve ever really loved. Life really does throw curveballs, doesn’t it?
· · ──────────·🌹· ───────── · ·
The rest of the night was slightly awkward. Bucky ordered pizza and the two of you made idle chit chat while eating it. He offered to hang out with you, but you wanted to get up and going early so you decided to retire to your room instead. He gave a pained smile and wished you a good night.
The next morning you woke up at dawn, a habit you had from being in law. Late nights and early mornings. After showering you get dressed in nice pants, a blouse, and some sneakers since you would be walking a lot today. You made a mental checklist of what needed to be done: meeting with Wanda and looking over the inn, visiting the safety deposit box, and arranging for a storage unit for the rest of your furniture.
When you got downstairs Bucky was already dressed, in dark jeans and a flannel shirt over a faded t-shirt.
“Morning,” he said and slid a cup of coffee your way.
“Thanks,” you say and take a sip from the mug.
“I took the day off from the store and figured I could help you out today.”
“You didn’t need to do that. You’ve already done way more for my family than you ever needed to.”
“I love your family, even used to think they’d be my family one day,” he says. The last part comes out quieter than the rest and you feel a flood of guilt.
“I’m meeting with Wanda in twenty minutes, but after could you help me run errands around town?”
“Anything. I gotta fix up the back steps to the inn this mornin’ anyway. Might as well do them now,” he says lowering the coffee cup. He goes across the counter to where his glove is and puts it over his hand.
Back in high school, he was attempting to make a table for his ma. He got distracted though and sawed into his arm. They had tried to save it, but the damage was done. Word had gone through the town and one woman told her fiancee (who just happened to be Tony Stark CEO of Stark Industries) and Bucky got a state of the art metal prosthetic. But you guess he was still embarrassed by it and hid it around everyone. Everyone but you it seems.
The meeting with Wanda was exhausting. She went over everything from payroll, to linen deliveries, to the filing system. There was a wedding scheduled three and a half months from now that took the majority of the time, as your mom was originally in charge of the day. But everything seemed manageable with help. You moved Wanda to the official daytime desk manager and promoted Clint Barton to the nighttime manager. Wanda said he functioned best at night anyway. She introduced you to the other members of the team, Vision (her husband) was the head chef. Scott Lang was the bartender at night and events, Peter Parker was the bellhop on duty at the time. She said you would meet the rest of the staff at a later time, and that there weren’t any bad seeds in the bunch.
The two of you ate lunch together in the dining room and she filled you in on the staff gossip, little things to help run the inn better. Like how Clint needed coffee or would forget he was even alive, or how Peter Parker could usually lift more than you’d think but if MJ (his girlfriend walked in) he would almost always get distracted and walk into a wall.
After lunch, you texted Bucky (he had given you his new number last night) and met him at his car.
“How was lunch,” he asks, walking up to you. His sleeves were rolled up now and he had sunglasses on.  His hair is a mess and his undershirt has paint stains on it. He’s got his toothy grin plastered across his face, and it’s the exact same one you fell in love with as a teen.
“Good, you fix up those stairs?” you ask and get into his car. He had a dark green pickup that was in desperate need of a wash. There was a toolbox in the back, but the front was spotless.
“Yeah, even painted over them too.” Bucky was always the fixer. Helped out whenever he could, and didn’t mind getting a little roughed up in the process. It was always the biggest difference between you. Your life was carefully crafted and there was no room for mess.
The ride is quiet. You don’t even know what small talk to make with him anymore. Do you bring up sports? Ask about his mom? Tell him about New York? It all seemed too stiff and meaningless.
You finally get to the bank and he offers to pick up some tea for you and him while you go to empty your mom’s safety deposit box. He knew this was something you needed to do alone, so he gave you your space.
The bank had one small room of the locked boxes, and the teller came with you holding the second key to the box. Once the box was unlocked you moved to a small table and chair surrounded by walls for privacy. The bank teller leaves you alone with the contents and you take a deep breath in.
Inside the metal box are a few papers, your parent’s marriage certificate, and the deed to the house and the inn amongst them. There are also a few family heirlooms, two necklaces, and a ring. Your great grandpa’s watch is also in the box. But what sticks out is a letter with your name on it. You pull it out and read it.
“Dear Y/N,
If you’re reading this then I’m gone. We both knew this day would come and would bring you home to where you belong. Years ago you left, and I know you needed to do that. You had dreams of a better and bigger life, but you have to know in your heart that Rose Hill is where you need to be.
I’m sure by now you have seen that Bucky lives in the house. He moved in a few years ago to help me out, and I told him to stay after I go. Y/N, I know you don’t want to hear this- especially from your mother, but he is the one. You two were meant to be. As soon as you stop running from that, you’ll feel at peace. He’s a good man and you need to let him have your heart again.
I trust you’ll handle the inn with grace and hopefully not sell it. It’s been in our family for many lifetimes, and I want it to continue that way. But if it’s too much give it to James. He’s family whether the pair of you are together or not.
Be kind to yourself dear.
Love,
Mom
You place the letter down and let the tears fall. It was too soon, you should have had her longer. And despite your best intentions of coming, staying a few months maybe a year and finding new owners you know you have to stay for good now. And for Bucky, you don’t even know. Bucky was the past, wasn’t he?
After you left the bank you went by a storage place then back to the room. The past three weeks have been a blur. The wedding was in less than three months and the bride decided to change the entire decoration scheme to be more ‘woodsy than classical’ and you were still figuring out what that even meant. Besides that, you were trying to figure out how to run an inn. People required directions you didn’t have so you were overwhelmed.
Between the running around you were spending all the time you could reading articles and going through the binder your mom kept. You never really understood how much time and energy your parents put into running this place. Growing up you just thought they greeted people and were friends with the staff. It never dawned on you that running an inn is more than just owning the property.
The spare minutes you had left were spent settling into your old life. Originally you planned to come back for a year and then move back. This was going to be a blip on the radar of your life. But you know now that was unrealistic and this is where you belong. So you officially list your place rather than lease it for a year. You formally quit your job, and you’d still have to fly back eventually for cases next year but that was a ways away.
In the mornings you shared a coffee with Bucky, and at night the two of you ate dinner together. It was comfortable but awkward. Which was your fault. You knew it was your fault, you broke his heart and left. But you just didn’t know how to fix that.
Most mornings were silent. You weren’t a morning person and Bucky wasn’t a talker. But today he had something to say. It only took three weeks, but better late than never.
“Natasha and Steve invited us over,” he says and you nearly drop your cup.
“They got back together?” you ask completely shocked.
While Wanda was who you stayed in touch with and one of your closest friends, Natasha was your best friend beside Bucky. The two of you met in dance class and became close. In middle school, she started dating Steve, who is Bucky’s best friend. They were the perfect pair, she was the fiery redheaded dancer and he was the timid but loyal baseball player. However, in Junior year of high school, they broke up after Natasha got drunk at a party and admitted that Steve wasn’t her first.
He had felt betrayed that she lied and broke up with her and she sobbed on your shoulder for a whole week. You and Bucky got in a fight about it too because he had taken Steve’s side and said she shouldn’t have lied. You fiercely defend Natasha though. It wasn’t her fault she had a hookup with an asshole that she tried to forget.
“Yeah. After high school, Steve and I got a place together while we went to the community college. One day we decided to go to a party at the university in the city. And the next day Natasha was in my kitchen. They had a ‘benefits’ only relationship for a few months before realizing they were idiots and got back together officially. Tied the knot maybe four years ago?” he explains.
“I’d love to see them again,” you say cordially. Hopefully, they didn’t resent you for leaving.
“We’ll go over for dinner?” he asks and you nod.
“I’ll see you later.”
“Good morning!” Wanda sings when you see her. She’s awfully cheery today and dressed up. She has a black lace dress with a high neckline. She’s wearing a pair of velvet burgundy heels and looks stellar.
“You are way too happy and look amazing today. Why?!” you ask laughing and she laughs with you.
“I may have an appointment with an adoption agency today,” she says smiling.
“WHAT! Oh my god! Wanda, that’s so exciting!” you say and pull her into a hug. Wanda’s wanted kids since you were 16 and found out a few years ago she can’t get pregnant.
“I don’t want to get too excited because it’s going to take a while. But we’re starting the process,” she says.
“I wish you and Vis the best. I’m so excited Wan.”
The day went by in a flash. Wanda had to leave early so you were on your own for part of the day. But it went good and you were finally feeling like you had this in the bag.
· · ──────────·🌹· ───────── · ·
You get back from work and change into more casual clothes. When you get downstairs Bucky is waiting in a leather jacket. You can tell he’d showered since work because his hair is still damp and he isn’t covered in his signature dirt and sawdust.
“Ready?” he asks and you smile.
“As I’ve ever been,” you say and he leads you out to his truck. Your car had been brought here two weeks ago so you didn’t have to rely on him to drive you everywhere anymore but it made sense to go in one car for this.
The Rogers live in a nice house with a large backyard across town. It’s no more than a 15-minute drive, and you arrive at the house with a flower garden outside and scattered kids’ toys in the yard.
“They have kids?” you ask your eyes widening at the idea of Natasha Romanoff with children.
Bucky laughs, “Twins! A happy surprise though. You’ll love my godchildren.”
“You’re a godfather?” you ask trying to not let the sadness of all you missed seep in.
“Yeah, why they hypothetically trusted me with their literal children I don’t know.”
The two of you walk up to the door and before you can open it a flash of red hair is seen and then you’re encompassed in a tight hug.
“I really missed you,” she says and the two of you move in a circle without letting each other go. A few tears fall from your face but you wipe them away.
“Hi Natty,” you say and she smiles pulling apart. She moves your hair from your face and tilts her head at you.
“If it isn’t my best friend finally. You look amazing. I really missed you,” she says and pulls you into another hug. It seems she holds no malice against you and a weight leaves your shoulders.
“I missed you too Mrs. Rogers,” you say and tilt your head smirking.
“C’mon in Steve’s cooking and I have two people for you to meet.”
When you walk into the living room you’re greeted by two three-year-olds.
“Y/N meet Sarah and James,” she says motioning to the two blondes. “Sarah and James meet your aunt Y/N.”
The two kids wave and smile and say hi synchronously. They were adorable and had Natty’s eyes.
“No hello to me?” Steve says coming in the room and you walk over and give him a hug. “We missed you here, big shot.”
“I missed you guys too. All of you,” you say and look over at Bucky. He lets a small smile cover his face but drops it when he sees you looking.
Over dinner, they fill you in on what you missed. After school, Natasha took over the local dance studio and turned it into a competition studio that was doing fairly well. They were winning titles and having girls travel just to be taught by her. Steve on the other hand became a teacher and is teaching high school history as well as coaching the baseball team. It’s as if no time had passed and the four of you are talking like you did growing up. The kids warm up to you and sit next to you and draw pictures with you.
When their bedtime comes Bucky and Steve wrangle them and agree to read stories, so Natasha pulls you outside to the patio.
“So,” she says and you give her a confused look. “What’s it like living with your ex-boyfriend?” she says and you gulp.
“Oh. That,” you say. “That is bringing up feelings I don’t want.”
“I always thought you two would get married at 19. He was so lost after you left. We all were but especially him. And he still looks at you as if you hung the moon.”
“I broke his heart, it’s not fair of me to do this to him again,” you say and she grabs your hand.
“Babe, you were young and messed up. Don’t let that get in the way of your happiness.”
· · ──────────·🌹· ───────── · ·
Natasha’s words hang on your conscious for a while. Every time you look at Bucky for the next two weeks you think of them.
The two of you start talking over coffee in the morning, and there’s definitely long wanting gazes and the need to be close. He’ll touch your hand when handing you something, and you’ll fix his hair and lay your head on his shoulder while watching movies.
He tells you jokes over texts and you send him gifs every time he complains about a customer. You were falling back into the way you used to be and you are so happy.
On Friday he asked if you guys could talk after work. Which was his right, he needed answers and you needed to ask about your mom. It had been two months now since you returned and you needed to air it all out. But knowing this made you feel jittery all day long. You kept spacing out or walking into the wrong room and everyone could tell you were a mess. It got to the point where you were doing more harm than good and Wanda sent you home.
It turns out that Bucky had finished early that day too because when you got home he was there.
“Hi,” you say awkwardly.
“Hi sugar,” he says smiling.
“You finished your day handy boy?” you ask and take your jacket off and hang it on the hook.
“Sure did. Only had a few customers at the store and figured I could close up early. And there was no fixing to do at the inn so I figured I would come back and relax for the night. How about you?”
“Wanda sent me home. Said I was ‘hurting her flow’. You wanna order some food tonight?” you ask trying to keep up some small talk.
“What I really want is to get drunk and have you be honest with me,” he says bluntly forgetting the politeness his mama taught him.
“Well, Okay. That- We can do that. Still need some food I’ll order some Chinese. you say pulling out your phone to order delivery from the shop down the road.
An hour later the two of you have eaten and are both slightly tipsy.
“Why’d you break up with me Y/N?” he asks finally.
You turn to him and shrug, “I wanted to be successful and I thought I needed someone who wanted the same success as me. I wanted to leave the past behind and that meant you. But I was too chicken shit to tell you. James, I regretted it every day.”
He gulps audibly and takes a long swig from his drink.
“I was so lost. I was going to marry you. Move up north with you. I knew that was where you needed to be and I wanted to be who you needed too.” he says.
“You were who I needed. Still are if we’re being honest. I just didn’t know that then.” you say and look down embarrassed. I thought you’d have moved on now. Settled with a nice girl, maybe Maria or Darcy. Had a few kids.” you admit.
“Can’t settle down when you’re still hung up on a girl,” he says and you look at him.
“Bucky I still love you. But you don’t deserve me. You deserve someone better.” you say.
“I deserve you. And as much as I want to show you that we’re both drunk and you’re still dealing with grief,” he says.
“So what now?” you ask.
“Now we wait. Make sure this is right and not just unresolved feelings,” he says.
“And if it is?” you ask.
“Then I move out and we pretend this never happened,” he says and downs the rest of his drink. You follow suit.
“Can I ask something?” you say after a few moments of quiet.
“Anytime sug, I’m an open book.”
“Was she mad? I didn’t come home when she got sick and I barely talked to her after dad died. I should have come back. I was a bad daughter,” you say and a tear falls down your face. He grabs your hand that was peeling a label off the bottle.
“Honey, she wasn’t mad. She was so proud of you. Told everyone about your cases and watched the news whenever you were mentioned. You made her so proud.”
“Thank you for being there for her.”
“She was my family too. I think we should get some rest though. It’s been a long night,” he says and you nod and head up to your room.
The next morning you wake up with a headache but see medicine and water on your bedside table. It’s then you decide that you were gonna try to make it up to Bucky. There was a chance to mend this and have the relationship you once had, and you had to take that chance. No way were you losing this man again. Once was hard enough. So you decide this time around you have to court him.
When the pair of you were young, only 13, Bucky had learned from Natasha through Steve at the time that you liked him. So he made it his mission to properly court you. It had started with notes and small trinkets, and after two weeks he knocked on your door with two bouquets of flowers (one for your momma and one for you) and asked your parents if it was alright if the pair of you dated.
They had of course said yes, knowing Bucky his entire life and planning your wedding with his parents when you were still kids. But back then you didn’t break his heart. Now you needed to figure out a way to mend it.
· · ──────────·🌹· ───────── · ·
There were two weeks until the wedding and you decided you needed to ask Bucky to be your ‘date’ there. He was obviously already invited because he was needed to make sure nothing broke and if it did it could be fixed. But you wanted him there as yours.
You woke up the next day early and went into town to get his favorite bagels and a rose. You got back to the house just as he made it downstairs and gave him the flower and food.
“Thank you? Why go through the hassle when we have food here?” he asks.
“I’m wooing you.”
“Doll, you do not need to woo me. I’m already wooed!” he says laughing.
“No, I messed up. And you deserve to be properly apologized to. So I’m wooing and you’re going to let me.”
“Okay,” he says shaking his head and taking a bite from his bagel.
Day one: success.
Day two starts when he gets back from work. You tell him that the pair of you are going on a date and tell him to wear a good pair of shoes. He gives you a weird look but agrees. You bring him to a club outside of town and once he sees it he can’t stop laughing.
When you and him were 16 you decided to try and get into a club. You both had horribly made fake ids and dressed up to look older. You were obviously turned away, but his car had refused to start after all that effort. So you both danced outside to his mp3 player while you waited for AAA to show up.
“I figured we could recreate that night, without AAA and the awful heels,” you say and he nods his head. You pull into the abandoned lot you spent hours in years ago. After parking, you grab your phone and put on a playlist of songs that were popular at that time and spend the next two hours just dancing. Completely embarrassingly and in a way nobody your age should. But it’s nice and the pair of you just let go.
Days three and four aren’t that eventful as you both have a lot of work. So instead you hide little notes throughout his things both days. They’re nothing special, just enough to let him know you’re thinking of him and how much you like him.
Day five you greet him after he closes the hardware store with a vintage Brooklyn Dodgers hat. His grandpa had loved the team and told Bucky all about them. You had to scour online for the hat and it was worth it when you saw the look on Bucky’s face. His eyes widened and he pulled you into a close hug. You would never admit it to him but you took a deep inhale of his scent.
Day 6’s plans were changed when Steve called and said Nat didn’t feel good and wondered if you would take the twins for the day and night. You told them you had to check with Bucky but would head over as soon as you heard from him.
Bucky of course was over the moon to have the kids over so you went and grabbed them after hanging up with him. When you got there Steve had packed each kid an overnight bag and handed them to you with their blankets and stuffed animals. Apparently Bucky bought them for the twins when they were born and they refused to sleep without them.
The twins were ecstatic to sleepover ‘aunt y/n and uncle Bucky’s place’ and babbled to each other the entire drive. You got there and saw Bucky’s truck so you figured he took the rest of the say off for the kids.
The rest of the day was spent running around the yard and showing the kids the inn and it reminded you so much of your childhood with Bucky. You wouldn’t mind your own kids playing here too you think to yourself.
After getting the kids to eat dinner and putting them to bed in the guest room you’re wiped and fall asleep with Bucky on the couch.
You wake up early the next day to little hands patting your shoulder. You manage to get up without waking up Bucky and bring the kids to the kitchen. Day 7 would be breakfast in bed you suppose.
· · ──────────·🌹· ───────── · ·
It was one week now until the wedding and you were stressed. The mothers decided to come in now and make your life a living hell by trying to undo everything the couple had done. Thor and Jane had made it perfectly clear to ignore their parents and you were doing your best to.
You told Bucky to meet you at the inn today since you couldn’t make it out to him, and when he arrived you had Vis make your lunch and the two of you picnic in the garden.
Day 9 was a big one because you were asking Bucky to be your date today. You lit candles around the house and had a big sign asking him to be your date. It mimicked how he asked you to prom all those years ago.
You got dressed up and waited impatiently for him to come home. When you heard his car you dimmed the lights in the house and held the sign for him to read. He came in and smiled at your setup.
“Doll, of course, I’m going to be your date,” he says laughing and pulls you close to him.
“You know you don’t need to do the rest of your wooing. We can just make it official now,” he says and you shake your head.
“James Buchanan you let me finish my last 5 days.”
“I just want to kiss you,” he whines and you laugh at his frustration.
“Soon Handy Boy I promise.”
Day 10 you go to the old drive-in theater with him. Wedding prep is just about done and you had the night off. You fill his truck with blankets and pillows after telling him the plan and having him grab snacks and drinks for you both.
The place is playing Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice in a Tim Burton back to back showing and it’s a good excuse to spend the night watching good movies and snuggled close to the man you love.
Day 11 and 12 you bake for him. The first of two nights cookies, the second muffins. He thanks you for both but asks if you’re trying to Hansel and Gretel him.
Day 13 was the day before the wedding and the entire family had come into town. The entire inn was rented out to the Foster-Odinson clan. It was all hands on deck and it was the fullest you’ve seen the inn yet. But despite the craziness, everything runs smoothly.
Midway through the day Wanda gets a call she was approved to adopt and was so excited she yelled it out. The entire place let out collective squeals (even people who had no clue who Wanda was) and the day just had a good tone to it.
For the last day before the wedding, and your last night of the ‘wooing’ you cook Bucky dinner. He’s surprised by the fact the house doesn’t burn and compliments your meal at least ten times. You tell him about Wanda and Vision.
“Do you want kids?” he asks and you nod.
“I want a bunch of kids. I want to raise them here too. With you,” you say and he chokes on his drink.
“God Doll, I want that too but don’t be that blunt about things. I’m getting older, don’t need a heart attack.” You laugh and he smiles.
· · ──────────·🌹· ───────── · ·
After what feels like a lifetime the day is finally here. You’re up and out of the house before Bucky even wakes. He’s sleeping in since the store is closed today and he doesn’t have to be at the inn until 11 am.
The bride and her bridesmaids are all drinking coffee and nibbling on light pastries when you get there. The makeup and hair team she hired should be here in around an hour. Jane has gel eye patches beneath her eyes and one of the bridesmaids still has their hair in a towel.
After checking that they’re all there and everything is running smoothly you check in on the kitchen staff. They all say things are on schedule and you nod and go to find Scott to ensure that the bar is fully stocked.
On your way to check with Scott, you find Peter carrying the suits up to the groomsmen and he wishes you a good morning. Scott, you find a few minutes later organizing the liquor. Everything seems to be running smoothly.
A few hours go by and it’s an hour until the wedding starts. You thank your lucky stars that everything runs smoothly as the guests start showing up. You feel a tap on your shoulder and turn to see Bucky in a suit. He looks fantastic and you practically drool.
“How’s my favorite wedding coordinator,” he asks and you smile.
“She’s fantastic. How’s my favorite handy boy,” you ask in return.
“He wants to know if he’s waited long enough for his kiss.” You laugh at him.
“He has. He should know that there’s a certain girl fully in love with him who would die for a chance to be his girlfriend again,” you say laying it all out.
Bucky smiles widely, “I love you too Y/N. It would be an honor to be yours again.”
Before you can reply to him he pulls you close and smashes his lips against yours. There’s so much want and need in the kiss and you can almost feel the years lost in it. He doesn’t hold back at all and reaches one arm around you to pull you as close as possible. The other holds your hand and he keeps his lips moving in time with yours.
And you know that it’s everything you need. He’s everything you ever need.

I´ve known since I met you
Yes, writing fics during my online classes is my passion.
English is not my first language.
Summary: You move to a new apartment and one of your new neighbors quickly gains your affection.
Warnings: Swearing, a tiny bit of angst.
Relationship: Bucky x Mexican!reader (it´s for the story, there are no lines in Spanish).
Shared kitchen?! Seriously?! That was ridiculous, who would approve a shared kitchen? You sighed after reading the details of the amazing apartment you had found. It was perfect: pet-friendly, quite reasonable price, pretty close to your work and only four neighbors. It was a small compound with five apartments. It wasn´t a building, the apartments were not on top of each other and it had a huge garden, which was perfect for your dog and two cats. But a shared kitchen.
-Do this people not have that feeling of hatred towards any person that walks into the kitchen when they´re using it?!- You almost yelled to yourself. You chuckled at your situation. It was too good to be true, but it´s still good. You had been looking for a place for almost three months, you had actually slept in your car for a couple of nights because of the fear of settling in a hotel and spending too much money. Luckily your boss was the nicest woman you had ever met, she sympathized with your situation and let you take a few days off (not the three months, of course) even though you hadn´t even started working yet, because you had recently arrived from Mexico. You had moved because of the job, it had been an offer, your dream job, you weren´t gonna waste it.
You decided to visit the place and liked it a lot. If you set aside the kitchen issue, it was perfect. Oh, what the hell? A day later you called the owner of the apartments and finally gave him your answer. Yes. You couldn´t be too picky, and it wasn´t that bad. All the apartments were connected, they were in the middle of the huge garden, next to each other. They had privacy and thick walls, but the kitchen was the “common room” in the middle of the five places.
You settled down in no time since you didn´t have all that much stuff. You took your cats to what would be their “room” and settled their litter box, food, water and bed. They got along just fine with each other and with your dog, so the small space wasn´t a problem. Your dog would sleep in your room (so would your cats even though their beds were on the other room), and her food and water was settled at the small fenced yard that was behind your apartment.
It was really nice, but if you had to be honest with yourself, it had been your metaled-armed neighbor that had convinced you this had been a good idea. You first saw him the day you moved in. You were carrying your huge books box while your dog was playing in between your feet. You tripped and swore you would lose your teeth because of the impact (since your hands were securing the box), but It never came, you only felt a really strong arm holding your stomach and saw the other hand catching the box you were carrying. You were already stunned by his action and strength, so when you saw the man your brain died and then resurrected. He was tall, had broad shoulders, short dark hair, and his face gave the image of a freaking lion and a lost puppy at the same time. You were caught in those deep blue eyes when your dog Cleo literally climbed him and started licking his face. He let go of you and started producing the most beautiful laughter you had ever heard. You reacted (finally) and called your dog to get away from him.
-I´m really sorry, she knows no boundaries. And thank you, thank you for catching me and my books- You said as you pet Cleo to keep her still.
-It´s not a problem, I like her too- He answered happily- And you don´t need to thank me, you seemed more worried about protecting your book rather than your face-.
-Well they´re really good books, and expensive ones- You said with a giggle.
-I´m Y/N- You said as you lifted your hand towards his left one, the one that wasn´t carrying your books.
-I´m Bucky- He made an awkward, almost worried face and shifted the box from his right arm to his left one and shook your hand weirdly (since you were using opposite hands for the shake). It wasn´t too awkward though, you were too lost in his features and touch to care about which hand you were shaking. He was also taking in everything about you. Almost scanning you, your features, your body language, your smile. God, your smile.
You two finally regained focus and he helped you carry in the rest of your boxes.
The second time you encountered him wasn´t as nice as the first one. You had been making your famous chocolate, oatmeal and banana pancakes, ones that you enjoyed a lot, when a lady (another one of your neighbors) came into the kitchen and looked at you with a disapproving grin. You couldn´t care less about what she thought of you, but what she said really triggered you.
-Mmmh, honey, are you sure you want to use chocolate? It has too much sugar, and bananas are really heavy fruits, you should eat a banana alone for breakfast if you want to have good habits- Who does she think she is?! A nutritionist? She didn´t even say good morning and she was already criticizing you. You were about to tell her a few of her truths when you felt a familiar strong hand grabbing your shoulder.
-Good morning Y/N, Ms. Cavanaugh- He listened to what happened and saw the look of anger in your face. You did seem like the type of person to not pull with anyone´s shit, at least to him. But that woman was the owner´s aunt and had a great relationship with him, he had learnt from experience she was a “tough” person, to say the least, but it wasn´t worth it getting on her black list. He was usually shy and reserved, but it was easy to be more “sociable” when he knew the amount of people in the apartment block wouldn´t increase, and that those people would always be the same.
-Morning James- The woman´s face literally shifted from the disgusted look she gave to you the second Bucky walked in. He just smiled and nodded while taking your arm and leading you back to your pancakes.
-That smells great, what are you making?- He asked curiously.
-Chocolate, oatmeal and banana pancakes- You said emphasizing in the “chocolate” and “and” while gazing at the woman.
-Woah that sounds great, I hope there´s enough batter for me to get some of those- You were more relaxed now, but you still didn´t understand why he hadn´t let you defend yourself.
You nodded with a smile and showed him the remaining batter. Ms. Cavanaugh finally left and you turned to him immediately.
-What was that for? That woman needs someone to tell her some of her truths- You said intensely, but not angrily. He softly explained the relation between the woman and the owner, and you quickly understood as you flipped his pancakes.
-Ohhhh, in that case, thank you. You know, it´s the second time you saved me this week, you gotta stop, I don’t like owing people things- He laughed while shaking his head at you.
-If you want me to stop saving you, stop giving me reasons to do so- You tried making an angry face but laughter took the best of you. You two had breakfast together and talked easily through it. He was insanely nice and smart, he seemed reserved and an introvert just like you. Sure, you didn´t let people step on you, but you were shy as hell. He seemed to have an interesting past, but didn´t talk much about it. You didn´t push it, you happily answered all the questions he asked about your family. You were currently telling him a story about your mom and dad from when they were dating.
-So it was really late, and we still don´t know if my dad said “move to the right” or “turn to the right”, because both of my parents say differently, but anyways, my mom offered to park the car and, remember they were not even married, she got in, moved forward and turned to the right. She suddenly felt the car drop a bit, turned to my yelling dad and got out of the car before it sank more INTO THE POOL! She freaking drove my dad´s car into the pool at my grandad´s house and they had to call a hoist at 3am to get it out! I don´t think my grandparents found out but JESUS!
Bucky was holding his stomach as it ached from his laughter.
-NO WAY- he said not being able to form a full sentence.
You were both laughing whole heartedly when your phone´s alarm rang, announcing you had to go to a gathering with your best friend. You apologized to Bucky and explained you had to leave, but before you did that, you basically jumped into his arms for a hug. His immediate reaction was to hold you as close as he could, as strong as he could, but he then remembered his left arm and doubts started filling his mind as you walked away towards the parking place you had outside the apartment’s block. He was afraid of your reaction if he told you, he knew you from a week and was already considering telling you everything about himself. Telling you the truth, but he was too afraid of your reaction. He knew you had recently moved from Mexico, and he also knew you weren´t fully aware of who he was.
But now, he was sure you had felt his metal arm when he held you, he was sure and he was dying. He wandered around the door while “watching” a movie waiting for you to arrive to your apartment. He was sure you knew, so he wanted to explain, at least that he had a metal arm, but he didn´t feel ready to tell you everything yet, or that´s what he tried convincing himself of.
You arrived three hours later. It was 5pm. He heard you walking and saying hi to Cleo (that was now allowed to be at the garden of the whole place, not just your small part). He walked to the kitchen, knowing he would bump into you there.
-Hey- you said with a wide smile as he opened the main door for you.
-Hi, I was just grabbing a snack when I heard you-
-Well, thank you-
-Listen, about my arm, I´m sorry if it made you uncomfortable when you hugged me before you left, I- You cut him off before he continued.
-Hey, your arm has never made me uncomfortable, you’ve been worried about this since I left?-
-Never? For how long have you known?-
-That you have a metal arm? Since I met you haha, it wasn´t hard to tell-
-But, it doesn´t make you uncomfortable? Why didn´t you as-
-Ask about it? It doesn´t make me uncomfortable, at all. And I didn´t ask because you didn´t tell me. If you want me to know, you´ll tell me, it you don´t I won´t invade your privacy-.
He seemed shocked at your words. It hurt you to think he had gone through anything that made him think his arm was unworthy of showing. He smiled, almost hurt. So you did what you had to. You hugged his waist with one arm, and with the other you held his left hand. You gazed at him, asking with your eyes for permission to remove his leather glove. When he nodded, you slowly lifted the material and intertwined you fingers with his metal ones. You then pressed your palm against his, reveling how small your hand was in comparison to his. He felt tears threatening to leave his eyes, but when he felt your head resting against his chest his mind wandered with thoughts. You trusted him enough to let him hold you, even though you knew about his metal arm, you had known about it since you met and it was never a problem for you.
You felt his other arm around your waist and turned to face him. He had a tender look in his eyes, like he was looking at the whole world. You smiled softly, released your fingers from his metal hand and grabbed his shirt, pulling him into your lips. He slowly surrounded you with both of his arms, and you tangled yours around his neck. You could feel him relax into your touch, and your stomach was meeting more butterflies than you had ever felt. Your breaths mixed perfectly, and you felt him smile widely into the kiss. You finally parted, reaching for air. You smiled again and he tenderly caressed your face with his left hand.
-I was about to go and watch a The Hobbit marathon, wanna watch it with me?-
-The Hobbit marathon? There are movies?! And more that one?!-
-There are three, you have NEVER watched them?!- Oh this was gonna be fun.
-I just read the book- He said with a smirk.
-Well, I read the book AND watched the movies, and now I´m curious to see if you´re a crazy fan that´ll hate the movies, or a crazy fan that´ll love them like me-.
-There´s only one way to find out-.

Chapter 21: Sleeping In
Things started to feel better after I met with my mother.  Like the last peak had been scaled and we were finally on a downhill roll.  Things were going well with mom.  I was taking it very slowly.  She still hadn’t met everyone but she had now also met Bucky as well as Bruce under nicer circumstances.  I was planning to introduce her to Sam and Clint next, then Steve and finally Tony.  If I was happy with how she handled all of them I would have a group meeting about introducing her to the kids.  I’m not sure how they’d take the idea - I wasn’t sure how I felt about the idea - but the thought that they’d have one grandparent in their lives did make me happy.
I had entered the awkward and uncomfortable phase of pregnancy.  That horny ‘can’t be sated’ feeling seemed to have doubled down.  I was wet constantly and yet at the same time I felt like a beached whale.  Every part of me ached, I couldn’t get up without help, and damn was I thirsty.  Natasha was in a similar state as me, just more so, while Wanda still seemed to be an earth mother goddess.
Wanda was also very close to her induction day and so Hill and Clarke had arranged for a baby shower of sorts.  Something I missed out on the first time too.  It wasn’t for gifts exactly, more just a morning tea to share our excitement with friends and family.   I was hoping for cute cakes with rattles on them and a lot of tiny sandwiches.
I woke to the sun streaming in through the floor to ceiling windows and the sound of kissing and soft moans.   I opened my eyes just a crack to see Sam and Bucky.  They were both lying side-by-side kissing slowly but passionately.  Bucky was in a white tank top and gray sweats, his leg was up on Sam’s hip and his hands were traveling down Sam’s muscular back and into his boxers.  The boxers were all that Sam had on.  His hands were tangled in Bucky’s hair and he would almost pull Bucky on top of him and then push him back so Sam was the one on top.
I watched their heated makeout session feeling my already wet pussy get even wetter.  Bucky began to kiss his way down Sam’s neck and Sam moaned and let his head fall back.  His eyelids fluttered and then opened, he smirked at me and pulled Bucky’s hair.  “What are you doing there, perv?” He teased.
Bucky pulled back and looked up at Sam a little startled.  “What did I do?”
“Not you, babe,” Sam assured him.  “Our little voyeur is watching us.”
I stifled a giggle and squeezed my eyes closed as Bucky turned to look at me.  “Who do you think you’re fooling, doll?”  He teased, poking me in the side.
“Hey, I’m sleeping,” I argued.
“Sure you are, princess,” Sam scoffed.  “You gonna just watch us or do you wanna get in here?”
I opened my eyes a little and bit my bottom lip.   “What time is it?”
“Just after eight,” Sam said.  “Everyone else is downstairs.  You didn’t wake up when the kids came in so Steve decided you needed the sleep.”
“And you’re in here still… because?”  I asked.
“Sex, Elise,” Sam deadpanned.  “You do know about sex right?”
“I think so,” I said.  “I think you gave me a lesson in that once.”
“Oh yeah,” Sam hummed.  “That was fun.  You missed that, Buck.  She had a school uniform on.  I spanked her real good.”
“Yeah you guys like to remind me how I missed out on that,” Bucky said.  “Come here, El.  Show me what they taught you.”
I got up and crawled over to them.  “Mm… they taught me how to use my mouth.  You want to see that?”
Bucky rolled onto his back and patted his thigh with his prosthetic hand as he wrapped his flesh one around Sam and drew him in close.  “Yeah, doll, show me what you know.”
“Clint said that if I had my mouth full, I couldn’t be mouthy,” I said, kissing Bucky’s hip as I ran my hand up Sam’s thigh.
“What a little shit he is,” Bucky chuckled, his hand caressing my jaw.  I pushed his sweats down to his knees and nuzzled up the inside of his thigh.
“Not wrong though,” Sam teased.
I giggled and licked up the length of Bucky’s cock and nipped at his foreskin.  Sam ran his hand down my back and over my ass.  “Come on, El, you can do better than that,” he teased.
I pinched Sam’s thigh and dropped my head down, taking the head of Bucky’s cock into my mouth.  Sam moved behind me and pulled down my pajama pants.  As I dropped my head down, opening my throat and slowly taking Bucky as deep as I could, Sam plunged his face into my cunt.  I gasped, choking on Bucky’s cock, and I spread my legs wider for Sam.  His tongue lapped from my cunt to my ass.  Swirling around and making me even wetter.  The insides of my thighs felt damp from it and he seemed to be drinking up everything he could hungrily.  He made content humming sounds like it was his most favorite flavor.
I bobbed my head up and down on Bucky’s cock, hollowing my cheeks and curling my tongue around my shaft.  Bucky played with my hair as he moaned softly.  His eyes stayed trained on both of us.  They looked soft and slightly unfocussed, and the blue/grey was blown out black.
My cunt tingled and buzzed but I was quickly becoming uncomfortable in the position I was in.  I pulled off slowly and looked up.  “Sorry, I need to be on my side.”
“It’s okay,” Bucky said as Sam pulled back letting me lie down.  “Let’s mix it up.”
I lay on my side and Sam pushed off his pants and he spooned me.  His arms circled my waist and he cupped my breasts, squeezing them and pinching my nipples.  He slowly rutted his hips so the head of his cock slid up and down my folds.
I moaned and closed my eyes.  Bucky was moving around us, but for the moment my attention was completely on Sam.  “You like when I play with your tits, don’t you, princess?”  Sam whispered.  The head of his cock caught on the entrance to my cunt and slipped out running over my clit.
I moaned and pushed my chest out.  “Yes, Sammy.”
He tugged on my nipples and I gasped and jerked against him.  My cunt was dripping.  I pushed back against him, aching for his cock to penetrate me.
“Oh, you want my dick, don’t you, princess?”  He whispered.
“Yes, Sam.  Give it to me,” I mewled, rocking back so his cock rubbed between my fold.  His cock became slick with my juices as it moved back and forth, pressing and releasing against my clit.
He pinched my nipples painfully and I arched my back and cried out.  “Beg for it.”
“Please, Sam.  Please give me your dick.  I want it inside me.  I need it,” I begged.
Sam groaned.  It was a deep gravelly rumble against my ear and it somehow made me even wetter for him.  He didn’t give it to me though, he just kept on rutting against me and massaging my breasts.
I felt like a live wire.  My nerves were screaming out for stimulation.  Bucky moved behind Sam and just as Sam’s cock caught at my entrance again, he gasped and jerked hard, thrusting into me.
I groaned and pushed back against him, pushing him deeper into me and squeezing my walls around his thick shaft.  “Fuck,” Sam gasped.  “You two are trying to kill me aren’t you.”
“Be an interesting way to go,” Bucky teased, kissing Sam’s neck and running his hand over my hips.
Bucky began thrusting into Sam, just slowly at first.  With each thrust, he pushed Sam into me.  His hand moved from my hip slowly, teasing between my legs and over my pubic mound.  He slipped his fingers between my folds and started to finger my clit.
There was nothing frantic or desperate about it.  They were going slow, enjoying it, and I relaxed and gave myself to it.  I tilted my head back and closed my eyes.  Sam captured my lips and kissed me deeply, his tongue teasing into my mouth.  I moaned and started to roll my hips a little faster.  Sam took the hint.  He picked up his pace, thrusting into me a little faster and a little deeper.  Bucky followed on, snapping his hips as he thrust into Sam’s ass.  His fingers moved quicker on my clit in random patterns.
I lost control.  My cunt spasmed around Sam’s cock and my legs began to tremble.  I kept kissing Sam, it restricted the flow of oxygen to my lungs and made my head feel fuzzy and soft.  Every part of me buzzed and a pressure built in my core like I was a bomb ready to explode.
The sounds in the room got louder and more constant.  The bed rocked under us, swinging on the cords with every thrust.  Our moans and grunts became a constant soundtrack.  I sat poised on the edge of my orgasm, my whole body quivering.
Sam broke the kiss and squeezed my breasts.  “Come, princess,” he groaned.
It was like he’d pulled a trigger inside me. I came, arching my back so I was pressed even tighter against him as I shuddered and clenched around his cock.
“There you go, princess,” Sam praised, not easing up his pace at all.
“Your turn,” Bucky groaned, gripping Sam’s hips.  He fucked him harder still, pushing Sam into me so our bodies slapped together.  Sam groaned and bit down into my shoulder.  I could feel his approaching orgasm through the thread connecting us and I knew Bucky was close too.
Sam’s hips began to stutter and with a loud groan, he jerked into me and came, groaning into my neck.  His orgasm pulled another one from me, and it washed through me like a wave.  Bucky jerked suddenly and moaned loudly as his own orgasm was brought over by the clench of Sam’s ass.
We lay there like that for a little while, just staying inside each other, and breathing heavily.  I felt like I was going to doze off again but just as I fully relaxed the baby decided to remind me that I hadn’t been to the bathroom yet by headbutting me directly in the bladder.
I pulled away from Sam and awkwardly got up.
“Hey, where are you going?”  Sam asked.  “Don’t you like cuddling with us?”
“Eddie is using my bladder like a boxing bag,” I said as I struggled to get off the bed.  “Besides, we have a party to get to.”
Sam chuckled as Bucky sat up and stretched.  “I guess you’re right,” Sam said.  “Time to go be social.”

Surprise, surprise! A third timely post for pegoryu week! I'll definitely be passing the fuck out after this.
As per usual, bulk under the cut, link in the notes, and all my love to those who recommend it to their friends!
Ryuji was running, feet pounding against the concrete hard enough to rattle his teeth, cold air sharp against his face, lungs burning for a break as the shout echoed off the nearby buildings.
“GET YOUR ASS BACK HERE YOU DAMN BRAT!”
His old man was mad at him again, and maybe he had it coming this time, yelling at him the way he had when he overheard the grownups talking. But this was supposed to be a nice vacation for New Year’s with his grandparents in the country. His father said he’d taken the week off for family, and promised him he was gonna be better when the new year started. Turned out that was a load of crap; he didn’t take the time off, he’d been suspended for a week for turning up drunk on the job. Drunk and pissed off, just like he was now, not ten minutes after the first New Year’s countdown Ryuji had ever been allowed to stay up for. Bastard was never gonna change.
“I HATE YOU, YOU RUIN EVERYTHING!” Ryuji screamed back as tears blurred his vision. “GET AWAY FROM ME!” He had no idea which way he was going, half blind from crying and unfamiliar with his surroundings. Ignoring the string of profanity being bellowed behind him, he turned off the path and into the darker, wilder area behind the shrine. Why weren’t any of the adults nearby stopping his father? Why wasn’t anyone helping? Crunching footsteps were drawing closer with each step and he could feel another sob trying to bubble up out of his throat. The old bastard was too close and he could already feel the bruises he was gonna have when a hand caught him by the back of the shirt and hauled him back--
--into a nearby shrub. Panic was still too loud in his brain and he thrashed in his assailant’s grip before realizing that the hands holding him were too small, too soft, too gentle--
“Shhh,” A small voice soothed in his ear, soft enough he almost didn’t hear it over his father stomping through the undergrowth nearby. Part of Ryuji was too wound up, wanted to bite the hand over his mouth and keep running, but the rest of him recognized that’d just give away his hiding spot and get both of them caught. Instead he wrapped a hand around their wrist and felt them pull him closer. In spite of his old man being within arm’s reach and out for blood worse than he’d seen in a long time, Ryuji relaxed. Just a little.
After a few moments, his father muttered darkly under his breath and started kicking at some of the bushes around him. Ryuji gripped the wrist in his hand a little tighter as his father’s foot brushed their hiding spot. His mystery rescuer let go of his jacket to hold his free hand and squeeze it reassuringly. Seconds stretched on for ages as his old man got closer and closer, and Ryuji’s heart hammered in his chest like it was trying to break out and escape. Finally, another voice called out, pulling his old man’s attention away from them. One of his aunts had appeared long enough to drag her drunken brother away before he could embarrass the family any further.
A few seconds after they disappeared from view, Ryuji untangled himself and lurched out of his hiding spot. He dusted himself off after sprawling out clumsily in the dirt, then checked himself over; kinda dusty, a few scratches on his face from the whippy little branches he’d run though, and… Crap.
“Aww man, I lost one of my mittens. I only just got those for Christmas,” he grumbled.
“We can look for it on the way back to the shrine.” His mystery rescuer had apparently just clambered out of their hiding spot too. Ryuji was ready to wave them off and tell them to not worry about it, but when he finally got a good look at them it was like every word he’d ever learned went on their own vacation.
“Whoa… Are you an angel or somethin’?” He blurted instead. This kid definitely looked like an angel, with a pretty round face almost as soft as the wild black curls around it and grey eyes that looked like nighttime--stars and all under the moonlight--that were almost too big for their face. Way too pretty to be a boy, especially with eyelashes like flower petals and a voice as soft and sweet as a music box. Yeah, probably an angel, definitely a girl. Only seven years old and Ryuji had already found his soulmate. Hiding in a shrub. Wearing a Buchimaru hat.
Mystery girl blushed and giggled behind a matching Buchimaru glove. “No, I’m just Akira. Akira Kurusu, first grade. What does your mitten look like?” Huh, never met a girl named Akira.
“Uh, like this? It’s a yellow Featherman one.” He held up the hand that still had a mitten on, then awkwardly thrust it out for a handshake. “A-and I’m Ryuji Sakamoto, also in first grade! Nice to meetcha, Kicchan!” Akira took the handshake with a small, shy smile, blushing bright enough that she almost matched the red jacket she was wrapped up in.
“Um. Nice to meet you too, Ryuji.” She thought for a moment, then moved around to his side and took his other hand in both of hers, warm even through the gloves. It was his turn to blush. “Here, so your hand doesn’t get cold while we look for your mitten.” Akira pulled him along and he needed a minute to remember how to walk so he didn’t fall over. She seemed to have things handled guiding them back out.
“You came from this way, right?” She looked back and tipped her head towards a hole through the undergrowth where his father had crashed through. Ryuji nodded and she pulled him along a little more insistently, scanning the path for any flash of yellow.
“Thanks for savin’ me, by the way. Kinda thought I was doomed back there.” Ryuji scratched the back of his neck. Kicchan shrugged but didn’t pause their trek or her search for his mitten.
“You needed help. I had a hiding spot. Figured I could share,” she explained like it was the most obvious thing in the world. Like every adult he’d run past hadn’t ignored him.
Ryuji nodded anyways. It was them who got it wrong, not Akira. “Right. Why were you hidin’ anyways?” Something in his stomach twisted at the thought of her running away from a dad as shitty as his. His fingers tightened around her hand just a little; he was gonna protect her twice as hard if that was the case.
Kicchan picked up a flash of yellow sticking out from under a pile of dead leaves, then frowned when it turned out to be a hamburger wrapper. “Don’t lemme forget to throw this away,” she crumpled it up and stuck it in her pocket. “I was back here ‘cause the shrine was too loud. I come back here sometimes when I need quiet. Then I heard someone yelling and stomping around, so I hid. And then you ran by.” She turned back and smiled at him and wow. People talked about getting butterflies in your stomach around someone you liked, but he was pretty sure he had Mothra rampaging around in his gut. “Oh!”
“Huh?” Ryuji was dragged along as Akira jogged up to a tree that he’d whipped around hoping to shake the old man off. Then she reached up for-- “Oh! My mitten!” It had gotten stuck to the bark somehow when he’d pushed off of it. Akira pulled it down and presented it to Ryuji with a flourish and a grin.
He took it and quickly crammed his hand back into it, then wiggled and flexed his fingers until it sat right again. After several minutes of not having a hand in it, the mitten had gone cold. And his fingers felt even colder not wrapped up with Akira’s.
“Hey, uh Kicchan? C-could we still hold hands?” He asked. “Um! J-just so I don’t lose you and get lost! That’s all!”
Kicchan giggled again, just as red as her coat again as she held her hand out for him. “Sure thing, Ryuji.” One reassuring squeeze later and they were walking again. “But we aren’t very far now, you can hear all the people from here.”
Ryuji strained his ears listening, then chuckled nervously because she was right. “Oh. You can, huh? W-well, still. Better safe than sorry.” They swung their hands between them for a few steps. “Hey, is it okay that I’m callin’ you Kicchan? You’re just callin’ me Ryuji, I ain’t bein’ rude am I?”
“Hm? No, it’s fine. I, um. Like it,” she mumbled and tucked her face into her coat. “Your name’s just nice to say is all. Ry~u~ji~♪!” Akira enunciated his name in a singsong that probably would’ve sounded mocking from anyone else. But from her it just sounded like music. He couldn’t help the laugh that bubbled up in his chest and the grin that broke out across his face.
“Yeah, well. Yours is nicer!” Ryuji declared loudly as they walked out of the trees and through the crowd of adults still celebrating. “A~ki~ra~♪!” He sang back, although not nearly as nice. Kicchan still seemed happy with it, if that smile was anything to go by. Like the sun breaking through the clouds and wow. Wow. He was gonna marry her when he grew up. Ryuji didn’t even care about all the people staring at them as they walked by, as long as he got to keep that smile.
“Ry~u~ji~♪!”
“A~ki~ra~♪!”
“Ry~u~ji~♪!”
“A~ki~ra~♪!”
“Ryuji!” The two of them jumped at the voice that rang out behind them. “Ryuji, there you are!”
“Mom!”
His mother skidded to a stop in front of them and threw her arms around him, squeezing him tight. “Oh, I was so worried, sunshine, I’m so sorry. Are you alright? Did he--?”
Ryuji wiggled free of her grip long enough to loop his free arm around her and return the hug. He brushed a hand lightly over a bruise above her eyebrow that hadn’t been there earlier, and she shook her hair over her eyes to try and cover it back up. That bastard. No need to worry her, then. “I’m fine, mom. I’m fast as lightnin’ remember? Plus my new friend saved me! We hid until Aunt Manaka got him.” Hana’s eyes flicked back to the kid holding onto her son’s hand, now trying to hide behind him. “‘S okay, Kicchan, it’s just my mom. She’s nice.”
Akira had tucked herself down into her shoulders and her voice was muffled through the collar of her coat. “H’lo. I’m Akira.”
Hana smiled warmly at Akira and held out a hand for her to shake. “Hello, Akira-chan, my name’s Hana Sakamoto. Thank you for taking care of my boy.” Kicchan took it cautiously, but stayed tucked behind a Ryuji who was awkwardly pretzeled from still trying to hold onto both of them.
“Y’r welcome. He’s nice, I like him,” Akira mumbled and took her hand back to cling to Ryuji’s arm with both. Ryuji blushed again and his mom grinned at him.
She straightened up and ruffled her son’s hair affectionately. “I like him, too. He’s a good kid. And so are you, Akira-chan. How ‘bout I treat you two to some cocoa and taiyaki to warm back up, and then we can find your folks too, kiddo.” Akira nodded and pointed to a nearby storefront that was still lit up. “Perfect! So I know red bean is Ryuji’s favorite, how about you?”
Akira was being quiet enough that even Ryuji, already at her level, still had to listen hard to hear her. “Chocolate, please.” There was no way his mom could hear her.
“Chocolate for Kicchan, please!” Ryuji relayed for them.
Hana nodded approvingly. “Chocolate and hot cocoa, I like your style.” She took Ryuji’s other hand and led them through the crowd to the convenience store taking full advantage of the New Year’s revelers. Ryuji and Akira stayed outside, still holding hands and leaned up against the wall while she went in. Better that than drag the kids through a bunch of unsteady adults bickering over snacks. She returned with a hot cocoa and a taiyaki for each of them after a few minutes and Ryuji and Akira finally, hesitantly let go of each other long enough to eat.
“Th’nk you,” Akira mumbled.
“Kicchan says thanks!”
“Just Kicchan, huh?” His mom teased.
“Wh- I do too!”
Hana laughed, then craned her neck to look through the thinning crowd. “So where are your parents--”
“Akira! Akira, there you are!” A woman with dark curls and grey eyes called out, striding through the crowd like a fish moving through water.
Kicchan straightened up and waved with her half-eaten taiyaki. “Hi mama!” She called louder than Ryuji thought she was capable of. “Where’s papa? I wanted him to meet my new friend.”
The woman, apparently Mrs. Kurusu, frowned that Adults Having Adult Problems frown. “He got called into work, apparently the man who was supposed to be on shift is indisposed,” she explained in the kind of tone that folks tended to use about his old man. “So we need to get going soon.”
“Awww.”
“I know, dear.” Akira’s mom turned to Ryuji’s mom. “Thank you for watching my son. Can I at least pay you back for the snacks?” She gestured to the three of them--wait, hold up, what?
“Your son?!” Ryuji yelped. Akira tilted her--his head at Ryuji in confusion.
“Yeah? What, did you think I was a girl or something?” He giggled, and it didn’t sound any different than before. But it was. But it wasn’t.
“Uh, yeah! Boys ain’t allowed to be that pretty! It’s illegal! You gotta like, go to Pretty Jail or somethin’!” Ryuji shouted and pointed an accusing mitten at him. Akira was still laughing at him, still smiling that smile that was still making his stomach all flippy. Their moms were laughing at him too; Ryuji’s loud and shameless in a way he hadn’t heard in a while, Akira’s in a soft way that just made Akira make more sense.
“That’s okay. I’ll just break out,” Akira shrugged, then looked up at his mother. “Can my friend stay the night? He’s really nice. And so is Sakamoto-san.”
Ryuji bounced on his toes a few times. “Oh! Can I?” Okay, so Akira was a boy. That just meant they could hang out more instead. Maybe he hadn’t met his soulmate in a shrub, maybe he wasn’t gonna marry Akira someday, but he could definitely go for a sleepover.
“I don’t think…” Kurusu-san started, but her eyes caught on Hana’s forehead and she hesitated. Their moms seemed to have one of those ‘Grownups Having A Whole Conversation Without Talking’ looks before she started talking again. “Actually, that sounds like a lovely idea, honey. You boys look to be about the same size. You can share one of your extra sets of pajamas,” she said more to Akira than anyone else. “And Sakamoto-san can come over for tea while your father’s at work. I could use the company.” The last bit was aimed at Ryuji’s mom with a smile, but the tone felt like when he was being told to do his chores. Don’t argue with me, it’s for your own good.
Hana smiled tiredly, then nodded and sighed. “Alright, alright, I know when I’m outvoted. I’ll follow you,” she said to Kurusu-san.
“Woohoo!” Ryuji pumped his fist and grabbed at Akira’s shoulder. “We’re gonna stay up all night watching Featherman!”
The other boy nodded enthusiastically. “Yeah! I got the whole box set for Christmas!”
“Sweet!”
Hana interjected with a hand on Ryuji’s shoulder to slow his bouncing, “boys, it is well past midnight, I’d be surprised if you didn’t fall asleep as soon as you’re in pajamas.”
Ryuji pouted up at her. “I ain’t ti--” he paused as he was overwhelmed by a yawn that almost popped his jaw, “--ired, I’ll be fine.”
Akira fell into step with his mother, then froze and whipped around to Ryuji. “Wait! I didn’t make my wish yet! We gotta make a wish at the shrine!”
His hand was ridiculously warm as it wrapped around Ryuji’s, probably from holding the cocoa that he’d hastily dropped in the trash. Before Ryuji could react, Kicchan had grabbed him and was dragging him back in the direction they’d come from.
“Akira!” Kurusu-san called sharply.
“BerightbackIpromise!” He called back to his mom as Ryuji stumbled along with him. They came to a clumsy stop in front of the offertory box and Akira started rifling through his pockets. He frowned at the crumpled burger wrapper he’d meant to throw away, crammed it back into a different pocket, then pulled out two five-hundred yen coins. “One for me and one for you,” he announced proudly and pressed one of them into the palm of Ryuji’s mitten. Rather than argue that he could pay for his own, because honestly he had no idea if he could, he nodded and closed his hand around the gift.
Ryuji watched Akira carefully, then did his best to copy his movements. He hadn’t really done this before without his mom to remind him how, but he knew exactly what he was gonna wish for. Marrying him was definitely probably off the table, but...
I wanna see Kicchan again after we leave.
A few minutes later, they were jogging back to where their moms were waiting for them.
“So, what’d you two wish for?” Hana asked and waggled her eyebrows at Ryuji.
Both boys blushed, looked at each other, and then quickly looked away before falling into step to leave. Their mumbled answers tangled together as they spoke at the same time.
“S-same as always, I guess.”
“‘S a secret.”
Ryuji hoped they wished for the same thing.
---
Three years later his mother divorced that deadbeat asshole, after advice from a stranger to save up behind the drunken bastard’s back, and the help of a lawyer named Kurusu. They had never had time before or a reason after to go back to that little town in the country.
---
Ryuji was running, feet pounding against the concrete hard enough to rattle his teeth, cold air sharp against his face, knee aching for a break as the shout echoed off the nearby buildings.
“Dammit! Screw that pervy teacher!”
“...pervy teacher?”
Ryuji whipped around to the voice behind him, already on the defensive. “What do you want? You plannin’ on rattin’ me out to Kamo… shi… da?”
He couldn’t help but trail off because he knew that face, nerd glasses or no; wild curls like storm clouds, grey eyes almost too big for the face they were set in, voice a hell of a lot deeper after nearly a decade but just as soft, and built in a lanky way that probably hadn’t been mistaken for a girl in years.
“Kicchan? The hell are you doing here?” Ryuji blinked a few times and watched Akira’s posture melt from tense apprehension to open surprise. Then he smiled like sunlight breaking through the clouds and wow. After all those years, there was Mothra in his stomach again. He had been putting off that particular revelation for a while, hadn’t he?
“Ryuji!”

Chapter 2
“Hailey,” he groaned, “what have you done?!”
The brunette raised her eyebrow at him, a spoon with ice cream on its way to her mouth. “What’s your problem?”
The Captain clenched his fists and pressed his lips together in a thin line. “My problem is,” he spat, “that the new neighbor thinks I’m a fucking player.”
Hailey lowered the spoon. “And you care about that, because? It’s not like people haven’t thought that about you before,” she pointed out, “since when do you care what people think?”
Sy stumbled a step back, not knowing how to answer. She was right, of course. He usually didn’t care about what people thought about him, but it felt different with Winter. He wanted to make a good first impression on her because for the first time in years it actually felt like he had a chance of happiness.
Hailey’s eyes started to twinkle as she tilted her head to the side, her gaze never wavering from his face. “Uh-oh.”
Sy sighed. “What?”
A full smile broke out on her face and she leaned forward, pressing the box of ice cream in his hands before standing on her tiptoes to whisper in his ear. “I will tell you later.”
She patted his shoulders and walked away, her hips swaying playfully, leaving him alone with Aika and his ice cream. He mumbled to himself as he sat down, the box of ice cream still in his hands. He wondered if he should go back to Winter, to apologize, to explain. He didn’t want their ‘relationship’ to start off with her thinking that he had a girlfriend, while in reality, it was just his sister.
He pushed himself off the chair and moved towards the veranda, taking a deep breath before walking to the single chair that was waiting for him. He leaned down to turn on the small radio on the ground next to him, filling the air with his rock music. He sat down in the chair and leaned his head back, enjoying the peace and quiet that his music brought him.
It was tough, being a veteran living alone. Often he found himself trapped, stuck in his own head, especially at night. Aika was there when he woke up in terror, his body shaking with fear, she was always there for him, but the comfort of his dog was not all that Sy was looking for. He was searching for someone to share that burden with. Someone that would comfort him, wrap her arms around him and make him feel safe.
His train of thoughts was broken off by a hand of his shoulder, startling him. He opened his eyes and let them travel over the woman’s curves, ending with her face that was knitted together with annoyance, a look that he was too familiar with.
“What do you think you’re doing?” She demanded, her arms crossed in front of her chest. “It’s almost midnight, some people are actually trying to get some rest.” She pointed towards her clothes, clear evidence that she was one of those people.
He gestured to the radio. “I was just listening to some music.”
A faint blush rose on her cheeks as she locked her arms across her chest. “Now? You really couldn’t wait until tomorrow?”
“Ehm, no?”
Winter stomped her foot in anger and took a step back, her hands balled into fists. “You’re a fucking asshole, you know that? I thought I was able to get some rest because I have an important exam tomorrow, but no, mister Syverson decided that he needs to listen to some shitty rock music.”
He raised his hands in surrender, his cerulean eyes searching her face. “Calm down, woman. You have a terrible taste if you think that this music is shitty.”
Winter dragged a hand through her white strands and shook her head. “I don’t know why I expected you to be nice,” she turned on her heels and stalked back towards her house, “I’m dealing with a child here. No wonder you only own one chair, no one is able to bear your presence long enough for you to buy a second one.”
——————————————————
A loud banging on her door woke her up from her slumber and she moaned as she shifted to look at the time, grimacing as it was 2 AM. She debated on letting the stranger knock on the door, ignoring the sound, but Bear became restless and released a bark as he pushed the door of her bedroom open, rushing to the front door. Sleep hazed her mind as she found her way downstairs, supporting herself against the railing of the stairs.
A large, slender hand was slamming on her door and her eyes widened as she recognized the man. It’s been months since their first encounter and Winter had tried to avoid Grey Syverson like the plague, focusing on her exams and her graduation.
‘’What the hell?’’ she mumbled before turning the doorknob, raising her eyebrow to the veteran.
He was supporting himself against her threshold, catching his breath. ‘’The puppy’s,’’ he managed to get out, ‘’they’re coming.’’
Her eyes widened and she shrugged on a jacket, hurrying after him. Sy kept quiet as he rushed back to the house, his face taut with worry. She fought back a smile at his worry. He may be one of the most annoying people she’s ever met but at least he cared dearly about his dog.
‘’I woke up to her whimpering and when I examined her she started shaking and some kind of fluid covered the ground,’’ he turned his head to look at her, ‘’there’s isn’t something wrong, is there?’’
Winter reached out and placed a hand on his upper arm, squeezing slightly. ‘’It sounds like the first puppy should arrive within 20 to 30 minutes, depending on when you found the fluid. But I can’t tell you if she’s okay, not without examining her myself.’’
He bit his lip and nodded, showing her the way upstairs, into his bedroom, where the German Shepherd was panting, her tongue almost on the ground. Winter crouched next to her and the tired dog lifted her head, staring straight at the white-haired woman.
‘’It’s okay, darling,’’ Winter whispered, ‘’I know it’s hurting, but you can do this.’’
As on cue, another contraction ran through the poor dog’s body and Sy crept closer, watching in amazement as a small face became visible. The first puppy plopped on the ground and Aika immediately turned, cleaning the little one with her long tongue.
A gasp tore Winter’s attention from the small family and she started to chuckle as she noticed the expression on Sy’s face. ‘’Are you crying, Captain?’’
He wiped at his face, removing every evidence of his emotional episode. ‘’Shut up,’’ he snapped, but there was no heat behind his words as he stared down at the little squirming puppy.
It took almost 2 hours for Aika to get three puppies out. Sy became more and more worried as time passed and the last one wouldn’t show. The large man drove her crazy as he paced behind her, nowhere near as patient as she was. Winter knew she couldn’t blame him for it. Watching your dog give birth was a scary thing, especially with all the risks, but she knew what she was doing, so he had no reason to pace like this
‘’Quit that, will ya?’’
He stopped his pacing and turned to face her, his head tilted. ‘’What was that?’’
She sighed as she wrapped her arms around her knees, leaning against the back of the bed. ‘’Stop pacing, this is totally normal for dogs,’’ she patted the space next to her, ‘’sit down.’’
He dropped his hands, and lowered himself next to her, his shoulder brushing against hers. ‘’You really think she’s gonna be alright?’’
Her gaze trailed to the dog, who was sleeping, her head resting on her large paws. ‘’Yeah, dogs are different from humans. They have the privilege to rest inbetween giving birth,’’ she chuckled, ‘’it won’t take long now.’’
The Captain nodded and leaned his head back against the bed, his eyes fluttering close, shadows dark under his eyes. Winter watched in silence as his breathing evened out and his head started to fall to the side, hitting her shoulder with a quiet thud. She winced at the contact and was sure that he would wake up, but he surprised her as he snuggled closer to her, burying his head in the crook of her neck.
A shiver ran over her spine at the feeling of his hot breath against her neck and she released a shuddering breath before gazing at Aika, who was staring right back at her. ‘’You’re dad is crazy, you know that?’’ A lopsided smile made its way on her lips. ‘’But I kinda grew to like him.’’
‘’I knew you secretly liked me,’’ Sy mumbled against her shoulder, slowly coming back to his senses, startling Winter.
She pushed him off and scrambled away from him, a faint blush already creeping up her cheeks. ‘’You asshole, I can’t believe you’ve been up this whole time.’’
His cerulean eyes sparkled as he looked up to her, a shit eating grin already on his face. ‘’I wasn’t awake the whole time, woman. Just from the moment I hit your shoulder and - ‘’
His voice trailed off as his attention got dragged to Aika, who was shaking as she got hit with a contraction. Winter sat herself down on the bed, carefully monitoring the contraction. ‘’About time,’’ she mumbled, before rushing forward, catching the little puppy before lowering it to the ground, giving the new mom time to adjust.
Sy leaned over her shoulder to peek at the small family, a soft smile on his face. “Congratulations, we just became grandparents.”
———————————————-
“Are you sure you shouldn’t take them to the clinic? Just to be certain that they’re healthy?”
Winter dropped her head on the table, ready to slap the guy. “Yes, for the hundredths time, I know what I’m doing and they’re all healthy.”
“But - “
“Stop it, will you?” She interrupted him. “If you want to take her to the clinic, go ahead, I won’t stop you. But it’s not fucking necessary. It’s better to keep an eye on them here and not drag them around in a car.”
Sy dragged a hand over his face, debating her words before falling down in the chair across from her. “Fine, I’m sorry for doubting you. I just…. I want the best for her and not screw this up.”
She looked up and their eyes met, sending a strange spark through her body. “You’re doing fine, Grey. And you’re not alone, I will help. They’re my grandchildren too after all.”
A chuckle escaped as he shook his head. “I honestly don’t know what I would’ve done without you, Winter,” his gaze held hers, “thank you.”
She leaned back in her chair, a blush on her cheeks before taking a sip from her water. “Well, you definitely would’ve cried more without me here.”
He groaned and hid his face in his hands. “Will ya stop that? It was a long day, alright?”
She leaned forward and patted his shoulder. “Of course, Captain. I’m sure that’s it. But don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone that ‘the mighty Captain Syverson’ cried while watching his dog give birth.”
He pressed his lips together, knowing fully well that she was just teasing him and decided to change the subject. “Do you think we should check up on them?”
“Yeah, that’s probably a good idea.” Winter finished her drink and pushed herself away from the chair, leaving the glass in the sink before following him upstairs, her footsteps light compared to his heavy ones.
Sy stopped in the doorway and leaned against the threshold, his arms folded across his chest as he stared down at the little family of five.
“They’re beautiful, aren’t they?”
Winter raised an eyebrow, shooting daggers through his back. “I don’t know, you’re blocking the doorway with that large body of yours.”
He snickered and stepped aside, giving her space to enter the room and watch the puppies herself.
“Yeah, they’re adorable.”
He turned around to look at the clock before facing her again, a frown between his eyebrows. “Do you want to stay here?” He raised his hands to stop her from interrupting. “I mean to keep an eye on the pups, nothing more. You can sleep on the bed, I will just take the floor. I don’t feel comfortable letting you go back home at this time.”
Winter bit her lip to fight a smile that threatened to take over. “Grey, you know my house is like a 2 minute walk away from here, right?”
“I don’t care,” he snatched one of the blankets from the bed and plopped himself down on the ground, “you’re staying here.”
“Stupid, dominant, man,” she mumbled to herself before wrapping herself in the warm blankets, relaxing almost immediately, “your mattress is really soft, I like it.”
It was quiet for a few seconds.
“I hurt my back when I was still in the army,” he softly rumbled, “without that mattress I’m not able to sleep.”
Winter shot up and peeked over the edge of the bed. “What are you doing down there, you moron? Get up here.” She shifted to the other side and watched in silence as he settled on the bed, his features smoothing in just a few seconds. “Why didn’t you tell me before? I feel horrible for even considering letting you sleep on the floor.”
His eyes were already drooping and he fought to open them enough to gaze at her. “I want you to feel comfortable, and I know you hate me, so I didn’t want to bother you.”
She took a deep, pained breath and closed her eyes, her chin quivering. “I don’t hate you, Grey,” she whispered, afraid to open her eyes. When she finally found the courage to face him, she found him already deeply asleep.
She carefully brushed one of his curls away from his face before laying down on her side, facing him. A soft smile pulled on her mouth as a snore escaped from his parted lips before she was dragged into the sweet darkness herself.
