"Magical races" as a common fantasy trope are a reification of this concept frequently, as they posture "man" as the white man (even when it is intended to be inclusive) and relegate the other mystical races to racial stereotypes or racialized them in general in a way that isn't applied to human(white) cultures in the same setting.

They are potentially more common and popular because they allow for free engagement with this symptom of white supremacist society, where the myth is both true and seemingly harmless. This also likely ties into why queer, and other marginalized groups who get into DnD and RPGs with similar settings to faerun find themselves playing the magical races more frequently. As well as the trope of the most boring player picking a human fighter, where "boring" in this case is functionally a stand in for white straight man™. The other end of the response to/existence of this trope likely have ties to "white guilt," aka anxiety about occupying a position as an oppressor in a society built on systemic abuse and exploitation.

What do?? Unclear. 🌺

"Humans are space orks" as a trope seems like a promising response. Or making humans magical in some form as well, so long as that form isn't clearly superior in the setting to the other magical races. Else you get the same white supremacy that HP peddles.

People can’t be oppressed for these reasons alone:

White people can’t be oppressed. Billionaires can’t be oppressed. Men cannot be oppressed. Cis people cannot be oppressed. Heterosexual people cannot be oppressed. Able-bodied people cannot be oppressed. Neurotypical people can’t be oppressed.

They can be oppressed for other reasons if they fall into another category, but are not oppressed by any of the categories above. I’m so tired of this.

REMINDER THAT FELLOW GROUPS DONT HAVE POWER OVER THEIR EXACT COUNTERPARTS: non-men, poor/middle class, people of color, transgender people, queer people, disabled, or neurodivergent people

I’m sorry, but the fact that a lot of radfems believe in so-called “female autism” is frankly concerning.

Differences in socialization can’t compensate for developmental disorders, and lowering the diagnostic threshold for “female autism” reinforces the idea that we should be held to a higher standard of behavior. That we need to grow up faster, be more focused on other people, keep ourselves in perfect shape and appearance for men, etc. And the majority of women just won’t live up to the developmental expectations placed on girls from a young age. Not fully. You’re not supposed to have the social and emotional wisdom of a 70 yo at the age of 20. Give yourself permission to let go of the unfair expectations placed on you. You’re not autistic, you’re just not conforming to the version of yourself that’s most convenient for the men who want to exploit you.

You don’t need to pathologize your failure to live up to the myth of Woman; you need to reject the myth itself.

Stop insulting gender activists by implying they have social anxiety challenge. If we even have to make posts like these to remind you not to be ableist you really have some work to do on yourself regarding the “arguments” you use to criticise an ideology that has nothing to do with having anxiety. Same goes with insulting people you don’t like by implying they are autistic or have mental illnesses. Do better.

Especially when you use this asshole move while trying to defend women as a class. Do you realise the sisters in the same movement as you and fighting the same sexist ideology can be dealing with their own personal psychological problems ? Or disabilities ? And we have to read your terrible useless additions to good posts as if we were all able-bodied, neurotypical and mentally balanced ? Some of us have the misfortune to deal with trauma and its repercussions on our psychology, the least you can do is not put more shame on those who are already struggling and trying to get better. Share this as much as possible if necessary, it needs to be heard and understood because it’s not acceptable that a few women in an otherwise good and smart community of feminists think it’s okay to act like that. An activist that at the core fights against an oppression (sexism) doesn’t in the same breath perpetuate other biases as if it was nothing.

Stages of why dating is so frustrating for feminists and neurodivergent people

1. Man feels obligated to pay for everything out of tradition regardless of how much money he has. (He also probably had this tradition BEATEN into him by his mother)

2. Woman wants to pay for herself to prove she’s not a gold digger.

3. Man refuses woman’s offer out of tradition and politeness.

4. Woman continues to hear stereotypes of women being gold diggers.

5. Woman is shamed by friends and family for not letting man pay for her when she tells them how it went 🙄

After reading that "I don't feel safe around cis women" article, and seeing many instances of trans men getting harassed by cis women that's so similar to the harassment I experienced growing up, I became inspired to make this thing.

Hey this might be a weird question but you seem to know a lot about the strategies TERFs use and what they're hiding, so I just wanted to ask and you don't have to answer.

Why do so many TERFs have this weird hostility towards bi and ace people? I don't think either of those identities have anything to do with being trans but I've seen so many TERFs who are also biphobic and/or aphobic. My gut instinct was that there was some large overlap between bi/ace people and trans people, but then I've found TERFs give shit to cis bis and aces so I'm not sure if it's that or some other reason. I'm not trans myself but I want to be able to recognize TERF rhetoric to be a better ally to trans people.

A couple reasons.

First one is that hating bis/aces is at the entrance of the TERF pipeline; they utilize this 'soft bigotry' to radicalize LGBTs and it usually looks like this:

To recruit queer ppl first they try to get us to stop considering aces as Oppressed. That's how it starts. They're aren't Doing anything so how can they be oppressed? They don't know what it's like to marginalized....how could they? They're just stealing the spotlight of Actually oppressed ppl

And once you accept that they turn to bisexuals. Who are only half gay, you know? And most of them date men anyway or end up marrying men so like? How the hell would they know what it's like to literally Live oppression 24/7? Do we we really want them to have a voice and speak for those of us that don't have an escape from our oppression?

This works because on the surface TERFS/Radfems appear to care about women and gender equality, which a lot of queer people obviously support. But they exploit those of us that don't know enough about feminism's intersectional (and very gay) history to identify them as bad actors.

From here the person they've targeted will either a- accept this and likewise will eventually also accept that trans oppression isnt real either (fulfilling the TERF's actual goal of recruitment) OR b- they'll realize they've been manipulated and try to deconstruct.

Secondly:

TERFs are white supremacist and their beliefs are founded white supremacist ideology and outdated scientific theories that Support white supremacist rhetoric.

It's called gender-essentialism which is a branch of bio-essentialism which is the belief that the biological body you have has inherent skills and abilities. Racists have used this to deny Black humanity just as TERFs use it to deny the existence of gender diversity.

But nobody is inherently weaker because of a uterus, nor are they bad drivers just because they have a uterus. All women are not good mothers just because they are women. Men are not all abusers just because they are men.

TERFs would have you swallow these beliefs; they're vital to maintaining the Core TERF Value that that trans people aren't Real and people with uteri are always helpless victims to be defended against evil men.

And as white supremacists their goal is to disrupt and destroy minority communities so that we are too divided to unify against legal attacks. TERFs do this from the inside out by putting bis/aces in a different category from the other queers while disguising their bigotry as feminist. They get us to voluntarily undermine and destroy our own movement this way by causing intercommunity "bi/ace discourse" that makes bis/aces out to be an enemy of "real" oppressed people (like transphobic lesbians for example)

Thirdly:

Lots of queer people are feminists which makes us easy targets and that's why they focus on the queer community. Additionally, the queer community has a history of being a threat to the white supremacist establishment so dividing us is vital to their goal of eventually wiping out anyone who isnt cis, straight, white, neurotypical, and able bodied

Genuinely I don't understand this view that a relationship has to be 100% perfect in order for it to be acceptable. I don't see this with anything BUT relationships. You can be messy, that's OK, but God forbid you get in a relationship that has a "power imbalance" which- every relationship has a power imbalance! Your partner has a better job! You're older! Why do relationships need to pass with an A+ or else you're Literally Defending Abuse.

I do want to, like, gently trouble the use of the word "relationship" here to (implicitly) refer to romantic-/sexual relationships, because every dynamic with another human person is a relationship of some kind and it is romantic/sexual partnerships (and they are usually assumed to be both romantic and sexual, people really cannot comfortably conceive of a relationship that's one without the other) that get held to this unique level of scrutiny and demands for untenable levels of purity

but anyway while I can't speak for everyone and this is the result of a lot of complex forces I'd say broadly it's like. people learning like half a theory and then regurgitating it badly. like, genuinely I think a lot of people's sincere belief in the oppression olympics comes from hearing about Crenshaw's intersectionality one time, misunderstanding it one time as a system that neatly lines up which identities are more privileged than others instead of a means of understanding the way all people are impacted multiply by several identities simultaneously.

and then, you know, there was also a lot of very needed critique in the movement widely known as second wave feminism of relational violence and the ways in which domestic partnerships can be uniquely dangerous for women, which was genuinely very important to establishing legal protections against marital rape and protections for battered spouses (speaking to my own country's history there, this is very America-centric) but also it's like. the same principle where you learn about things that can potentially be sources of harm in relationships and you combine your understanding of privilege that works like a fucking chart of pokemon types determining who is weak against who and you arrive at "it's abusive for a person who [you are assuming] is neurotypical to date someone with a mental illness" and it's like. congrats! you've successfully circled back around to categorizing neurodivergent people as a class unfit to interact with wider society and in need of being isolated for their own protection. very cool, super progressive of you!

idk man it's so great that so many people are interested in social justice now but this is kind of an inevitable byproduct of so many people learning from twitter and tumblr and never supplementing that with actually reading any books or developing a sufficient philosophical framework of their own through which to analyze information.

Okay so this might be a hot take but I actually do think that a member of a marginalised demographic is allowed to not be as nuanced while talking about their oppressor. To stay with the racism analogy: If a person of colour said things like “I’m fucking done with white people and I don’t want to be friends with any of them because I don’t want to go through the tedious process of finding out who is racist and who isn’t”, I wouldn’t be offended or anything, because they are probably right. I as an autistic person personally also wouldn’t want to date a neurotypical person again, because in the past, there have been considerable difficulties in communication. And now imagine how a survivor of rape or abuse or sex trafficking would feel like! 

So is hating men a solid political theory? No. But is hating men a way of life that makes the life of many women safer and happier? Definitely.

Also, saying that a movement is cultish and people are being manipulated into joining is not patronisation. By that logic, you also wouldn’t be able to criticise Jehova’s Witnesses because you saying that they manipulate people into joining would be patronising the people who did join.

Honestly, this has been pointed out before but I feel like it needs more emphasis than ever right now:

Why are women expected to include men in their movements? Why do movements for female liberation and against sex-based oppression have to cater to and be made palatable for men? Why do they literally have to center them?

You wouldn’t be okay with including white people in movements for black people and other ethnicities, e.g. Black Lives Matter.

You wouldn’t be okay with including heterosexual people in movements for LGBT+ people, e.g. Gay Pride.

You wouldn’t be okay with including rich people in movements for poor people, or with including neurotypical and non-disabled in movements for mentally/physically disabled people.

And guess what? RIGHTFULLY SO. These movements are for the oppressed groups, not for the oppressor groups.

So obviously, movements for women — like feminism — shouldn’t include men, but rather acknowledge them as our oppressors. Men as a sex class are an oppressor class, and every single one of them benefits from male privilege just like every white person benefits from white privilege and every straight person benefits from straight privilege.

This is one of the main reasons I left liberal feminism behind.
