One of the most common reasons I hear for people being against abortion is because “life is sacred.”
Really? Since when? When has life ever been sacred in this country?
If life is sacred, how come we don’t have universal healthcare?
If life is sacred, how come we don’t pass comprehensive gun laws so first graders don’t get gunned down in their classrooms?
If life is sacred, why don’t we offer paid maternal leave so mothers can actually take care of the babies that you are now forcing them to have?
If life is sacred, how come we don’t bat an eye when the police murder black kids?
If life is sacred, why do we have the highest maternal death rate in the developed world, which is only going to increase now that women are being forced to give birth?
If life is sacred, why is the death penalty even still a thing?
If life is sacred, why are we still encouraging violence against the LGBTQ+ community?
Life has literally never been sacred in this country. Maybe anti-choicers like to pretend that it is because it makes them feel righteous when in reality, they’re just misogynistic pieces of shit, but it’s not. And as long as psychotic, reactionary morons continue to steal power undemocratically and make decisions that the majority of us do not want, it never will be.

Another consequence of overturning Roe: charging mothers who don’t provide the absolute ‘best’ environments for their babies.
In 2019, a pregnant woman gets into an argument, and the other person shoots her in the stomach 5 times - obviously the baby is lost. The pregnant woman (who got shot) was charge with negligent homicide for ‘bringing her baby to the fight.’ It took 7 months of protest for her charges to be overturned.
Now that Roe is overturned? Can a mother be sued if she doesn’t take folic acid pills and her baby is born with spina bifida? What about the mom who doesn’t realize she was pregant until the 2nd trimester, drank in the 1st, and decides to keep the child? If her baby is born with fetal alcohol syndrome, is she charged with negligence for not keeping her body in tiptop shape, even though she didn’t know she was pregnant?
These are not hypotheticals. If a woman’s body is no longer her body, but *always* either a potential or future baby carrier, then we’re in for a whole host of crimes against pregnant people.

Horrible news, Roe v. Wade was overruled in the states.
[Image ID: First screenshot is a tweet written by @ iceddarkroast, reading
"There is no equity in a society where being born a woman means having to accept a life of forced servitude. Motherhood can be a beautiful gift or an unending burden and WE have the right to forge our own paths without restriction." /.End ID]
[Image ID: Second screenshot is a tweet written by @ markiplier, reading
“I don’t care if you don’t want to hear this; overturning Roe v. Wade is an erosion of women’s rights and reinforces this absurd, backwards notion that women shouldn’t be allowed to be in control of their own bodies. If you DON’T think that’s absurd and backwards, fuck you.“ /.End ID]

"Imagine being mad that babies will live"
For the person in poverty who is now in a full year worth of debt for an uncomplicated birth
For the person forced to carry a nonviable fetus to term
For the sexual assault survivor who must nurture a reminder of that violence
For the person who faces lifelong disability due to the harm this pregnancy caused
For the medically unstable person who is forced to risk everything
For the teen who is forced to drop out of school
For the trans person who can't look at themselves
For the person who becomes an outlaw for seeking abortion in another state
For the unwanted child in an abusive home
For one more child placed into the already overrun foster system
For the child born to a homeless parent
For the child of color forced into an increasingly dangerous world
For the pregnancy that was simply unwanted and poorly timed
This isn't life
As always, Danny Devito said it best.
"Supreme court my ass"

What “this leak is the gravest, most unforgivable sin”?
Forcing pregnancy upon someone isn’t?
To the whistleblower who knew the consequences and still did it, thank you. That is bravery. To do right amongst it all. The laws were meant to be broken when the autonomy of someone’s body is not respected.

Access to safe abortion is a woman’s right.
And abortion is a decision to be made between a woman, her doctor, her family, and her god.
...Not a majority white male cohort of politicians with a false sense of morality.
And your judgement?
It matters not.

Americans with uteruses: Roe v Wade has been struck down and Republicans are going to go after birth control next. Some states have already banned Plan B and others are working to outlaw birth control entirely. Talk to your doctor ASAP about long term birth control options such as an IUD (lasts 3-12 years depending on the type), contraceptive implant (lasts 3 years), or tubal ligation (having your tubes tied - permanent birth control). You deserve to control your body and the direction of your life.
