"It's just a bad test"

You got a low grade at school today. The teacher handed you your now graded math test from last week. You got a C. You were so frustrated with yourself. Why couldn't you have done better? Why didn't you study more? Why?! The reasonable part of your mind knew that you did study, that you did in fact try and that the reason for your bad test was just your panicked mind. It was normal. Human. But you were still beating yourself about it.

After a long, stressful day at school, you enter the house, your mind still completely on the bad test. You were ashamed of your grade and angry at yourself for it. What will Natasha say? Well, you were about to find out if she saw the paper. Your mother was in the kitchen, setting the table.

"Hi sweetie! How was school today?" you could tell by her voice that she was in a good mood and you didn't want to ruin that with your attitude, or your bad test.

"It was fine mama. What you making?"

"Pizza. You sure school was alright?"

"Yeah, it was fine." Natasha nods at your words, not quite sure you're telling her the truth.

"Come. Sit." her voice remains calm and gentle, as she always is.

Later, after you guys finish eating, Natasha notices you forgot your backpack in the living room. It was slightly open and she could make out what seemed to be a test paper shoved in there. She knew that it wasn't the nicest thing to look into your backpack but curiosity got the best of her. After opening your backpack, she took out the paper that caught her eye and looked at it. On it, there was a big "C" written at the corner in a dark, red color. Everything clicked in Natasha's mind when she saw the bad test - your slightly off attitude, the reduced desire to eat that you had at lunch earlier, you constantly thinking about something and being so caught up on it while the two of you ate; it all made sense to her now. Natasha knew that you'd always been pretty hard on yourself, especially with school, so she could imagine you weren't feeling the best about this low grade, but she was proud of you no matter what and in that moment she decided to go up to your room to make sure you knew that. With your test paper in her left hand, she began to climb up the stairs to your room. When she got there, she softly knocked and waited for you to invite her inside.

"Come in!"
