If he were to be honest with himself, Eddie hadn't expected to keep this monster hunting party in his life, not for long. He expected everyone to go on their way, while he was fumbling just to get out of the town.
Well, some people did go their own way. Older Byers was off to college in California with Argyle, after some extensive talk with his family and with Nancy, and Nancy herself was off in Boston.
But everyone else? Well, the kids had to finish high school before going anywhere, and Robin had decided to take a gap year that was about to end. And Steve…
Between joint recoveries and sharing almost the same group of people (and eventually truly having all the same friends), they had spent a lot of time together. They had become friends, good friends, not necessarily by choice, but the truth was that Eddie wouldn't change it for the world.
But sometimes, it was nice to just… exist. To be able to not think about the feelings he’d realized that were growing not too long ago. About how, even though he’d only noticed them recently, the feelings hadn’t been really new. About how it looked reciprocated, sometimes.
Eddie expected to hear about Steve’s plans to get out of town any day now, maybe tag along with Robin, so why do anything about the something that was brewing, right?
Deep down, Eddie knew Steve wouldn’t leave before the kids’ senior year started. At the earliest. Eddie felt pretty much the same already, after knowing them for only a little over a year. According to Robin, they did have that effect somehow.
(Something about how young they all were to have been at the whole supernatural thing for years.)
After dropping El and Will back home, he’d driven himself to a secluded little clearing, having to go the long way around so he’d actually be able to drive his van into it. But it was worth it, it’d always been worth it.
Eddie grabbed a few of the blankets stashed at the back of his van and threw them on top of it before climbing up himself. Setting up his little makeshift bed up there was a quick process; a couple of blankets to make the roof a little more comfortable, and the rest bunched together into a pillow.
It wasn’t particularly good, but it was part of his summer routine at this point, so he settled down, lying on the roof of his van. He watched the clear, evening summer sky fade into night, watching the stars come out slowly and then all at once as the animal sounds faded and changed to accompany the sky.
Some birds — owls, if he had to guess — and bats were flying overheard, occasionally cutting his vision of the stars and changing the tracks of his thoughts; the song he’d been working on, the campaign Will wanted to run for Hellfire next, Robin’s entirely too chaotic packing process, and how that girl might have surpassed him in terms of organizational chaos. At least Eddie could find his shit in half the time it had taken her to find the shoes she was taking with her.
The crunch of steps on fallen branches drew him out of his thoughts, making him turn in its direction.
“Jesus, how far is this place,” Eddie heard in a very familiar grumble. Steve was closer than he probably expected to be, and it didn’t take long before Eddie could see him on the treeline. “Uh… Hi.”
“Hi,” Eddie returned, waving at him from where he lay with a grin. “Funny seeing you here.”
Steve rolled his eyes and walked closer. He was wearing some ridiculous yellow shorts and what looked like an old NASCAR shirt, color and design faded with time. It was a little different from what Eddie was used to; more relaxed, like he didn’t have anyone to impress. Which was good, Eddie didn’t need to be impressed by style.
(Eddie knew, objectively, that Steve genuinely enjoyed the polos and all that, but it was still nice to see him in something else. Something softer.)
“What are you doing out here?” Steve asked once he was close to the van, just enough to still be able to see Eddie.
“Looking for Scorpius,” he stated simply, gesturing for Steve to come up. While Steve climbed to the roof of the van, Eddie adjusted the pillow of blankets so they could lie side by side. “What are you doing here?”
“Well, I was expecting to find you in the trailer,” Steve started, leaning back on top of the blankets on his elbows with a frown on his face. “Wayne directed me over here.” Steve looked around, frowning even harder when he glanced at the ground. “You said you’re looking for scorpions?”
“Scorpius, not scorpions,” Eddie corrected softly, turning back to the stars. “The constellation.”
Steve let out a soft “Oh,” turning to glance at the sky before lying down and making himself comfortable.
Eddie had the vague knowledge that Scorpius was closer to the horizon line, but he’d have to drive up to Hop’s old cabin and the nearby hill to actually look for it, and he just… didn’t want to go that far.
(Didn't really want to be looking over all of Hawkins.)
“What’s the story?” Steve asked after a couple of minutes spent in silence. When Eddie turned to look, Steve was already watching him, his little smile illuminated by the moon. After a beat, he added, “Constellations have those, don’t they?”
Eddie nodded, struggling a little to find his words with the way Steve was looking at him. “It’s uh…” He cleared his throat and turned back to the sky. “It’s the scorpion that killed Orion.”
He could still feel Steve’s eyes on him, waiting for more.
“Orion was a hunter, the best one humanity had to offer,” Eddie started, gesturing to their surroundings as if it could encompass every person in the world. “But he was just a human, you know? And if even the gods of ancient Greece were flawed, imagine how bad a human could be.”
He glanced at Steve, finding all of his attention still focused on him.
“His flaws are not really the point, though.” He shook his head, continuing the story. “At some point in his life, Orion was hunting with Artemis, the goddess of the hunt and wild animals, and… Well,” he grimaced, “He claimed to be able to hunt every animal on Earth.”
“To the goddess of the hunt?” Steve questioned with that particular tone he had when he thought something was stupid. “Rather arrogant of him.”
“Yeah, but Artemis was fond of him.” Steve raised an eyebrow at that, but it took Eddie a moment to realize how his words could be taken. “Not like that,” he added, chuckling. “Artemis was a virgin goddess, none of that.”
Steve hummed, his expression betraying his surprise. “Good for her.”
Eddie blinked at Steve, at this tone of awe that he had.
“Where does the scorpion come in?” Steve asked, a little furrow appearing between his brow that Eddie wanted smooth out, though he had a story to finish.
“Right,” Eddie sighed out, turning once again to the stars. “Gaia, the personification of the Earth itself, didn’t like Orion’s claim.” He paused, then added, “She’s the mother of all life, so.” He gestured nonsensically upwards, finishing his story with as much a deadpan tone as he could muster. “She sent a giant scorpion to kill him.”
“A giant—” Steve burst out laughing, shaking his head in some kind of attempt to regain his composure. “Sorry, I’m sorry, just—”
“It’s kind of a silly conclusion?” Eddie asked with a smile on his face as well as in his voice. Steve nodded, taking a deep breath to calm himself down. “Greek mythology is kind of… Dramatic, like that,” he explained with a shrug. “Orion’s hubris got him killed by a giant scorpion—” Steve snorted, but reined himself in quickly— “And they were both raised to the sky as constellations as a warning against humanity’s arrogance.”
Steve hummed, gaze unfocused when Eddie looked at him. “Where are they, then?”
“Uh…” Eddie blinked and turned to the sky to blink some more. “Orion is not visible this time of the year, and Scorpius is closer to the horizon,” he said, raising his arm to point in the general direction he remembered the constellation being.
Steve hummed, but didn’t say anything, letting the silence and the warm evening air envelop them. Eddie expected it to grow awkward, for Steve to say something, for himself to end up fidgeting. Instead, it was easy to just exist together like this, lying side by side and watching the night sky.
“Are you okay?” Steve asked, some indeterminate time later. Eddie could feel Steve move about, slowly as to not risk falling off the side, and settle on his side, holding himself up on his elbow. “El was all…” He gestured toward his face. “All frowny, and she only does that when she’s worried. Dustin also said you seemed down.”
Eddie sighed, wishing those kids paid just a little less attention. “I’m good,” he said, keeping his tone light. “Just thinking, you know?”
“About?”
“What happens now, I guess?” He hadn’t meant for it to come out as a question. “We got a couple more practice sessions before Jeff and Arnie are going back to college.”
“Gareth’s not going anywhere out of state, though, right?” Steve asked with a thoughtful little frown that Eddie couldn’t resist smoothing out with a finger this time. It earned him a soft laugh and a smack to his hand. “You guys can keep Corroded Coffin going?”
Eddie shrugged as much as he could while lying down. He tried that once, making it on his own, but it didn’t seem as worth it now.
“Think I’d rather not split the band,” he said, grimacing and knowing that Steve would pick up the story he wasn’t telling.
“So,” Steve drawled, eyes narrowed at Eddie like he’d be able to figure out whatever was going on in his head. “The plan is just to wait?”
Honestly, Eddie hated that idea, but what else could Corroded Coffin do? “Sure.” Steve eyes narrowed further, going unfocused again. “What?”
“The kids will be starting their junior year,” he stated.
Eddie hummed to let Steve know he was listening, but he had no idea where the guy was going with this.
“You should come to Indianapolis with me,” he announced.
Eddie blinked at Steve, processing his words for a moment. The offer seemed to come out of nowhere. He expected Steve to leave Hawkins at some point, he’d been preparing for that news, and now it came with an offer to tag along?
“I don’t really have any plans yet,” Steve continued, probably taking Eddie’s silence as hesitation. “We’d have to look into places, and Indianapolis is just an hour away, but it should be enough for a fresh start, right?”
Eddie nodded, a little numbly. “You, uh…” He shook his head to dislodge his surprise. “I think Gareth’s going to community college in the city, actually.”
“Is he, now?” Steve raised an eyebrow, looking unimpressed and not surprised.
“Right, you two talk a lot now.” It was still rather amusing that the two of them hung out so much, even without Eddie. “Will?”
“Of course it’s about Will,” Steve scoffed, waving a hand in a flourish. “It’s why he picked Indianapolis. But don’t change the subject,” he added with a smack to Eddie’s arm.
“Alright, alright!” Eddie laughed, rubbing his arm. He’d have rolled away from Steve if it didn’t mean rolling off the roof of the van. “I guess Indianapolis is pretty good…”
Steve beamed at him, a smile he’d been seeing more often as the time passed. Usually, Steve was being a little shit when he smiled like that, but sometimes, he just seemed… happy.
“You could, I don’t know, teach kids how to play the guitar.”
That made Eddie laugh, surprised at the suggestion. Not that he necessarily disliked it.
“Who’d even let me?” He asked. “Maybe I’ll find work at a record store, that seems more likely.”
“If you want to, I’m sure you could find something.” Steve shrugged, that grin not fading from his expression. “Who says you can’t do both, anyway?”
And… Well, Steve had a point. Maybe he could find a store that offered lessons?
“Why are you asking me to go to Indianapolis with you?” The question was asked before Eddie even processed that it was something he wanted to know. He grimaced as soon as it was out. “Not that I don’t want to, god knows I wanted to be out of this town three years ago now, but just— I thought you might tag along with Robin?”
Steve’s expression softened, a serene smile replacing the wide grin. “I thought about it. Robin’s going to Indianapolis University anyway, though, and…” He gave a one-shouldered shrug. “I think I’d like you there too.”
“You think?” Eddie questioned with a raised brow. It was easier to tease and joke than really look into that sparkle of mirth in Steve’s eyes and hope it meant what he wanted it to mean.
Steve shook his head, sending his hair all over the place. “I know. Got used to your noise, Munson.”
“Well, I’m making your life interesting, so you’re welcome.”
They were both smiling when Eddie finally let himself look Steve in the eye, finally relaxed enough even though he hadn’t escaped thinking about Steve, or his actual presence. It was fine. There some tentative plans to get out of Hawkins, together, and maybe Corroded Coffin would forever be a high school band that didn’t really go anywhere — Eddie was only starting to be okay with that idea, though — but that didn’t mean he couldn’t do something else with music.
Steve laid back down on the van after a moment of silence, turning his gaze to the sky. Like this, they were touching pretty much from shoulder to knee, and Eddie was trying not to move too much, conscious of the warmth radiating from Steve.
Steve, on the other hand, didn’t seem to have the same hang-ups, nudging Eddie’s hand until he could take it in his own.
“This okay?” He asked softly, not turning his head and not seeing Eddie already looking at him. Eddie squeezed his hand and intertwined their fingers as response. “I wasn’t planning on talking to you about Indianapolis tonight, you know?” His admission was soft, barely above the ambiance of the woods at night. “I was just gonna keep you company.”
“I’m glad you did.” Eddie let himself take in Steve’s face and what freckles he could see in the dark before turning away. “Easier to think I can actually get out of here when I have a tentative plan.”
“You can, Eddie,” Steve said, firmly squeezing his hand. “I meant it, I’d really like if you came to Indianapolis with me.”
He could feel Steve’s eyes boring a hole into the side of his head, and he refused to loosen the hold on his hand. Eddie sighed, turning to face Steve’s small, determined frown.
“Sometimes,” he started, hesitating before pulling their joined hands closer. “I kinda wish you were still some degree of asshole.” Steve frowned, ready to interject, but Eddie continued before he could. “‘Cause it would make getting over this ridiculous crush so much easier.”
Steve pulled their hands closer to himself this time, and Eddie could see him pursing his lips. He’d been paying too much attention, enough to know this was Steve trying to rein in one of those rare, goofy grins that had been one of the things that made Eddie fall in the first place.
“What if,” Steve started, slowly letting the grin take hold, as he started absently playing with the one ring Eddie forgot to take off before climbing up the van. “I don’t want you getting over this ridiculous crush?”
Eddie blinked at him — he felt like he’d done that a lot tonight, almost constantly surprised by Steve despite how close they’d gotten. Maybe that’s why he hadn’t seen this coming, too close to see what, eventually, might become obvious in hindsight.
“You mean that?”
Steve’s grin came out, full force, in the face of Eddie’s soft tone. He slowly brought Eddie’s hand closer and pressed an oh so soft kiss to his knuckles.
“I mean it.”
Eddie didn’t really know what to say to all that, the smooth jerk knew it and could probably see the blush undoubtedly rising on his cheeks. But there was one thing that he needed to double check.
“You know I’m—”
“Asexual?” He filled in after Eddie cut himself short. “Yeah, I do.” Steve was back to messing with the ring on his hand, looking at it with an expression Eddie still hadn’t figured out. “And I think…” He paused, frowning a little. Eddie kind of wanted to bite him. “It might apply to me too?”
Eddie rolled closer to Steve and pressed a kiss to cheek, feeling the heat rising the longer he stayed there.
“Thanks for telling me,” he mumbled against Steve’s cheek. He pressed another quick kiss before settling back down. “Feels good to know, doesn’t it?”
Steve’s laughter was light, giddy. He rolled onto Eddie this time, hugging him as close as possible.
“It really does.”
Eddie knew they would talk come morning, and they would define just what they wanted and were to each other. But for now, cuddling and laughing under the night sky with ridiculous Greek stories was all Eddie wanted to be doing.

Shinobis of Ninjago
Episode 1: Rise of the Snakes
Prologue Pilot 1 Pilot 2 (Episode 1, Part 1, Part 2, Part 3), Next Episode
((Tw: Violence))
Months later, the world of Ninjago seemed more at peace. Not many knew of the Dark Lady's existence or the fact that she had left the realm, but it was a strange coincidence that everything seemed to calm down. The hectic elections had ended, domestic disputes seemed less, and gang violence was low, even Skylor seemed more relaxed. This also meant that the four shinobis were very, very bored.
Skylor and Jay had moved into the Monastery, leaving the weapons-smith shop to be maintained by the neighbours and farmers. They had been renting it out to people, making a steady income every month.
Jay had healed up well, his bandages were gone and he was now able to leave the monastery by himself (Skylor had made sure he was always in her sight). He now wore bracers on his forearms, something that their mother would often do. Before he had moved, he spoke little Ninjargon, but he had improved quickly, speaking only occasionally in broken sentences. The only change Skylor noticed in him is he was tired most of the time and would spend the days in his room sleeping or reading.
It was now early Winter, meaning the heat-lamp in the dragons' stall had been set up and there were candles lit around the monastery to keep it warm. The fireplaces were alive with burning wood and crackling with the approaching holiday season. The ninja were also excited to have their new winter yorois, or what they called a 'dragon riding suit'. It was almost the same as a regular ninja-yoroi, but it was water and wind resistant and the ninjas wore thermal clothing underneath.
Today was a warmer day, as it was still early in the season. There was the faintest amount of snow on the ground at the base of the mountain, but lots piled on top of the monastery. The ninjas sat together playing video games, Jay was nestled in his room reading, and Mystake sat in front of her incense sticks, meditating.
Soon, the shouts from the kunoichis reached her ears, disrupting her meditation. It continued for a few more minutes until Mystake stood up, having had enough of the shouts coming from the game room. She wandered the halls of the Monastery, looking at the sparse decorations Seliel had put up for one of her countries' holidays.
Mystake stopped outside of the game room, the shouts from before now louder and more clear. Sighing, she pushed them open and was greeted by a bright blue light from the television. Pop bottles, candy wrappers, and pizza boxes lay around the room, the ninjas seated comfortably in beanbag chairs and the overstuffed couch.
"Fantastic! I'm outta lives." Nya complained, hitting more buttons on her controller to get back in the game.
"But the lesson lives on." Pixal said, holding her controller at an awkward angle. "And I am getting the hang of it!" Though she had spent months with the others, she still wasn't very good at video games, unlike Skylor who had picked it up right away.
Mystake moved through the room unnoticed, surveying what they did in their free time and frowning. Suddenly, the lights turned on and the screen went black. The kunoichis looked around in confusion before spotting Mystake with the remote in her hands.
"It took us three hours to get there!" Seliel exclaimed, throwing down her controller and sinking into her beanbag chair.
"Why would ya do that? Why!?" Nya demanded.
Mystake put down the remote on the wrapper-strewn coffee table. "Just because a Lady Misako escaped through a vortex, doesn't mean she won't return one day for the Golden Weapons." She lectured.
"But Master Mystake, ever since she has been gone Ninjago has had nothing but peace." Pixal stated.
"Yeah. Peace is borin'. There's no one ta' save, nothin' ta' do." The scout added, stretching back and putting her hands behind her head.
"Yeah, we can train tomorrow." Seliel said, reaching for another slice of pizza.
Mystake kicked the box away, ignoring Seliel's gasp of betrayal. "Never put off till tomorrow what can be done today."
"Well, I was going to call that cute boy I met last week." Seliel said, reaching for her phone. "If that's the case—"
"No dates for you." Mystake said, plucking the phone from the girl's hands. "You four will spend the rest of the day in the indoor training room until supper, and then meditation until lights out."
"Uh, remember when we did a little thing called the 'Tornado of Creation'? I thought that was pretty cool." Skylor reminded her.
Mystake sighed, looking around at her students. "You four have merely scratched the surface of your full potential. There are still so many secrets you have yet to unlock. You haven't even begun to tap into what powers your weapons hold."
"Ya wanna talk secret powers?" Nya asked. "Check this out. Pix, do the thing." Pixal nodded and picked up her Golden Weapon. Extending her whip, she flicked it against the TV. The black screen flickered to life and the four picked up their controllers, re-starting the game.
"Don't get your robes in a bunch," Skylor assured her, "we'll be ready when she decides to show her face."
Jay appeared in the doorway, a piece of paper in his hands. "You need to stop jinxing self." He turned to the rest of the girls. "Lady Misako spotted approaching Jamanikai Village." As soon as he said the words his eyes widened and he looked down at the paper in his hands in disbelief.
The four girls blanked. Then the room erupted into chaos. There was swearing, grunts of pain, and shouts as they scrambled to find the tops of their yorois, weapons, and hoods.
Once everything had been located, they rushed out of the room, stumbling down the halls until they reached the staircase along the western wall. Their footfalls echoed through the narrow staircase as they raced down to the Dragon Stalls. Soon, they were hit with a new wave of heat from the lamp nestled in the top of the cavern.
The Dragon Stalls had been carved into the mountain, long before Mystake recruited the ninja. There were eight red doors, each one painted with the symbol of the element represented by a weapon. The doors of Fire, Time, Sound, and Earth remained vacant.
The dragons were sprawled about, but once they heard their masters coming down the stairs, they got up and went to stand in front of their respective doors.
The ninja burst into the cavern, and Nya, having the dragon closest to the wall, ran over and pulled on four separate levers. Saddles dropped from the ceiling, supported by chains. They were lowered onto the dragons' backs and the ninja unhooked them and began strapping the girth under their bellies.
Pixal's dragon, Byte, let out a roar as she pulled it too tight. Seliel swung her leg over the saddle. Hearing the clang of metal, she looked down, seeing her staff on the ground.
Jay walked up to Skylor, who was fastening a bag to her dragon's saddle. "Can I help?" He asked hopefully.
"Sorry, Jay Bird. Where we go danger abounds. I don't want you getting hurt, especially not by her hand." Jay let out a sigh of disappointment, even though he knew his sister was only trying to protect him from what happened last time. Skylor threw her leg over the dragon's back, only to pause. "Uh, a little help?" She asked, bending down and making grabby-hands at the reins.
Jay bit his lip and handed the reins to his sister. Pixal turned to Mystake and nodded. Mystake, who was standing by the levers, pulled the biggest one and the doors fell forward. The kunoichis cheered and took off, leaving Jay and Mystake to watch them fly off.
"Will they ever reach full potential?" Jay asked.
"In time," Mystake replied. "Maybe long time, but in time."
—————————————————-
"Just like old times, eh, Misty?" Seliel said, patting her dragon on the side of the neck. They hadn't been out riding their dragons in days, leaving the beasts to become very restless.
"You guys believe what Sensei said about our full potential?" Skylor asked a few minutes later. "I mean, we have the weapons, the skills, what else could there be?"
"We've never had ta' use the weapons, besides for our own personal gain. I wonder wha' they do." Nya said.
"I for one, look forward to the future." The kanchō said. "If there is more for us to accomplish, let it be."
"I don't know about you ladies, but is anyone else a little excited about facing Lady Misako? I've been looking forward to trying out some new spinjitzu moves." Seliel exclaimed. "'Could be the perfect opportunity."
"Ha ha, race ya'll there?" Nya challenged as she surged forward. She heard shouts behind her as her teammates struggled to catch up. They soared above the clouds and kept an eye out for Jamanikai Village, not wanting to fly past another village like they have in the past.
Jamanikai Village was located close to the Monastery, not more than a fifteen minute flight. Nestled in the South-Eastern Mountain Range, it was a quiet village, maybe only two hundred people. But it was a popular tourist spot in the summer, especially for those who lived in cities.
Soon enough they spotted the village through the clouds. Pulling their dragons into a dive, they raced forward, crashing into a deep snowbank just outside of a small cluster of shops and houses. Climbing out of the snow, the four brushed the snow from their yorois and began digging out their dragons. They then sent them on their way to fly around the village until called upon, a way of keeping them warm.
Skylor watched her dragon, Amber, take off before turning to her teammates, throwing a fist up in the air. "Yo fui la primera!" ('I was first!')
Nya whipped towards her. "No, no one was faster than me."
"Nuh-uh! My feet were down before yours."
"You are all disillusioned, it was clearly me." Pixal argued.
They were reminded of their reason for being there once they heard a scream from within the village. Putting their argument on the figurative back-burner, they got out their weapons and made their way into the village.
All the doors were closed tightly and curtains were drawn. The village almost seemed like a ghost town, empty except for the occasional face that would appear in a window. The ninja knocked on a door, hoping to get any direction to where Misako would be. A brave man pointed to the next mountain over before wishing them good luck and closing the door.
The ninja set out through the village until they reached the bridge that connected the to the next mountain. The next part of the village was even quieter than the last, if that was possible. The ninja slowly made their way down the cobblestone streets, keeping an eye out for any suspicious activity. They stopped in the heart of the village where a fountain was located.
They paused when they heard a little girl's giggles. Immediately getting into a fighting stance, they turned, facing the fountain. A small figure emerged from behind, dancing along the fountain's outer ring and singing softly.
"...Don't wake up or else you'll find a spider in your mouth." The figure paused, looking up at the four kunoichis. She stood up straight and smiled. "Finally, another human." She threw her hands up in the air. "I demand all the candy in town!"
Skylor dropped her stance, sliding her sai into their scabbards and placing her hands on her hips. "Uh, who's that?"
"Harumi Garmadon, Misako's daughter." Seliel groaned. "Looks like she escaped Darkley's again."
The doors around the small village began to open up, faces peeking out curiously. Harumi smiled at the bigger audience. "Give me candy or else I'll release the Serpentine on you!" She pulled out a can and after struggling to get the lid off, held it out to the street before her. A few rubber snakes jumped out, landing weakly on the ground.
"She's going to have to do a lot better than using an old bedtime story to scare people." Skylor said as she picked up one of the snakes. She let it drop as Seliel stepped forward to go get the young girl.
"The Serpentine are real, Skylor, and they are not something to joke about." Pixal informed her.
"¿Serpentina, real?" Skylor scoffed. "We're talking about the ancient race of snake-people who once ruled Ninjago and were supposedly locked underground."
"Sealed in five different tombs to separate the warrin' tribes, and insure they don't unify to exact their revenge on those who put them there." The teisatsu babbled.
"It's an old wives tale to teach kids not to poke their noses where they don't belong." Skylor said, waving her hand. "Don't you think it's a little suspicious no one's ever found one of their tombs?"
"That's because you'd be a fool to look for one." Seliel said as she walked back to her teammates, a screaming girl thrown over her shoulder. "If there was anything I hated more than dragons, it was snakes. Rubber or not."
"Bow down to me, or suffer my wrath!" Harumi threatened, pounding her fists on Seliel's back. "I'll give you the count of three! One! Two!"
"What are we supposed to do with her?" Skylor asked.
"Two and half--"
—————————————————-
Harumi screamed, struggling against the cloth that bound her to a chair inside a grocery store. "You've just made me your nemesis! Mark my words!" She glared at the ninja who were picking up groceries for their own home.
"Relax, young one." Said the one in purple. "Your boarding school is sending someone to come pick you up. You can wait here until then."
Harumi huffed, turning away. The ninja paid and left, but the orange one remained, walking over towards the girl. She pulled something out of one of her pockets, holding it out to Harumi. Harumi turned to her, looking down at the lollipop that was being held out towards her. The orange kunoichi removed the wrapper and gave the girl the piece of candy.
"Crime doesn't pay, niña. Next time try paying for your candy."
And with that, she was gone.

Smothering You with Love
Day 6 Prompt for the Untamed Fall Fest 2020 is ‘Foliage’.
Summary: It's just another day in the life of Nie Huaisang studying at Gusu. Wei Wuxian gets distracted and gets into trouble, Nie Huaisang sneaks a canary into class, and Jiang Cheng gets smothered in leaves.
Nie Huaisang could spot the exact second Wei Wuxian got bored and distracted during Lan Qiren’s lecture. He noticed Wei Wuxian’s gaze shifting to Jiang Cheng, who was sitting in front of him, for a second, before focusing on him.
He gave Nie Huaisang a quick wave and stifled a yawn, probably to show him exactly how he felt about Lan Qiren yapping on and on in a monotonous voice during the lecture. Nie Huaisang hid a smile behind his fan as his eyes flickered from Wei Wuxian down to his table. Hidden beneath the table was a beautiful canary he had spotted singing on the ground near him before the lecture had started. He had been sitting under one of the thousands of trees planted in Gusu, painting the mountains that he could spot in a faraway distance, when the canary had come to him.
When Nie Huaisang looked back up at Wei Wuxian, his gaze had settled on the Second Young Master of Lan. Nie Huaisang perked up at that, straightening in his seat as he wondered which tactics Wei-xiong would use this time to catch Lan Wangji’s attention. Lan Wangji glared at Wei Wuxian but that didn’t deter him. He scribbled something onto a plain piece of parchment and sent it flying to Lan Wangji when Lan Qiren’s back was turned to them.
Nie Huaisang watched Jiang Cheng’s attention turning to Wei Wuxian as he became aware of what his brother was doing. He immediately rolled his eyes heavenwards and turned back to Lan Qiren to listen to what he was saying. The piece of parchment reached Lan Wangji, and Nie Huaisang was on the edge of his seat, wanting to know what Wei Wuxian had scribbled on it and what Lan Wangji’s reaction to it would be.
The Second Young Master of Lan turned red before standing up and furiously bellowing, “Wei Ying!” Wei Wuxian’s eyes widened and he scrambled to stand up. “Come outside right now and fight me.” The paper in Lan Wangji’s hand burst into flames and he began to pull out his sword. Nie Huaisang had never seen him this angry.
“No, thank you, Lan Zhan,” Wei Wuxian had the gal to blink up innocently at him. “I think I would like to listen to Professor Lan Qiren teaching us about the difference between exorcising ghouls and ghosts.”
“Wangji, what is going on? You and Wei Wuxian come with me this instant. Class dismissed!” Lan Qiren said before marching off with both the boys in tow, one of them glaring daggers at the other, who smiled cheekily in response.
“Wei Wuxian can never stop getting into trouble,” Jiang Cheng huffed as he walked back to their rooms along with Nie Huaisang.
“Ah, let it go Jiang-xiong. Wei Wuxian was just having a little fun,” Nie Huaisang said, trying to placate Jiang Cheng’s anger.
“Having fun? Having fun?!” Jiang Cheng seemed to grow even angrier. “Did you see Lan Wangji? He looked like he was about to kill Wei Wuxian! And if he hasn’t already done it yet, I’m sure Lan Qiren will be more than happy to do it for him.”
“I wonder what it was that Wei-xiong drew on that piece of parchment that made the Second Young Master of Lan react in such a hostile way,” Nie Huaisang questioned out loud.
“I drew us kissing,” a voice interrupted the conversation.
“Wei-xiong!” Nie Huaisang delightedly greeted him. “We were just waiting for you.”
“No, we weren’t,” Jiang Cheng grumpily muttered. “We were just leaving you to go back to our rooms.”
He was lying. Nie Huaisang and Jiang Cheng both knew it. They had been walking across the path that led to Lan Qiren’s office and they had been going slower than usual. They had been waiting for Wei Wuxian, and Wei Wuxian knew it too.
“Oh, my adorable didi. It’s so sweet that you were waiting for me.” Wei Wuxian caught up with them both and put his hand over Jiang Cheng’s shoulder, pulling him close and pinching his cheeks. “Isn’t my didi the greatest, Nie-xiong?”
Wei Wuxian let go of Jiang Cheng, who had been trying to shake him off anyway, to lean on Nie Huaisang’s shoulder. Nie Huaisang and Wei Wuxian shared a look and they both smirked as Nie Huaisang responded. “Of course! Jiang-xiong is the greatest didi and friend. I think he deserves a hug for that. What do you think Wei-xiong?”
The three of them were almost near their rooms which were hidden behind the dense foliage near the entrance to them. The tree leaves had changed colour, going from their usual green to all sorts of different colours, some dark reds and oranges, some pinks, and violets. There were a bunch of leaves fallen next to them, in the shape of the mountains Nie Huaisang had been trying to draw.
Nie Huaisang’s canary chirped from his robes, as if in agreement, before Wei Wuxian even spoke.
“Look Jiang Cheng, even the canary agrees,” Wei Wuxian said, pointing to the bird cage as Nie Huaisang put it down on the ground next to him gently. “Now we have to give you a big hug.”
“No!” Jiang Cheng yelled as Wei Wuxian threw himself at his brother. Jiang Cheng, taken by surprise, couldn’t handle Wei Wuxian’s entire weight and the both of them toppled straight into the collection of leaves that had fallen onto the ground. “WEI WUXIAN!!!” Jiang Cheng roared as he fell face first onto the leaves and Wei Wuxian fell on top on him. “You are dead. You’re a dead man.” Jiang Cheng stated as a few leaves entered his mouth.
Wei Wuxian didn’t move from where he was sprawled on top of Jiang Cheng, laughing too hard to respond. Nie Huaisang thought, what the hell, things couldn’t possibly get any worse for Jiang Cheng, and if anyone was going to be on the receiving end of Jiang Cheng’s wrath, it was going to be Wei Wuxian.
Besides, Nie Huaisang had promised Jiang Cheng a hug. So, he quietly walked over to the two boys covered in colourful leaves, spread his robes wide, dramatically—
“No, Huaisang, don’t!” Jiang Cheng called out in alarm.
Wei Wuxian, on the other hand, made a come-hither gesture. “Come on, join me. Let’s smother Jiang Cheng with love.”
“It isn’t your love that’s smothering me you fucking—” Jiang Cheng responded, but he cut off with an “—oooff!” as Nie Huaisang fell on both of them and joined the smothering of love. “Ugh, I hate you both,” Jiang Cheng muttered from underneath them both.
“But we love you, Jiang-xiong!” Nie Huaisang sang with a smile on his face.
“Yes, we do,” Wei Wuxian cheered as they both continued to smother him with love and their entire bodies. He could never hope to escape them or their unending love for him.

Louis let the dandelion twist within his fingers, focused on how its seeds flew away with the soft spring breeze. The warmth of the fresh sun relaxed every limb, his eyes fluttering each time the piercing rays danced through the leaves above. There was no need for a jacket today, which he took as a good sign. Overgrown grass pricked his arms as he lay at mercy to nature, he could easily fall into the green earth if given the chance. Swim in spring forever.
"Earth to Louis!" A quick and sudden hand wave in front of his face broke him away from his minds quiet slumber. He instinctively reached up and pulled it down to his chest, resting it above his heart. He smirked at the resulting groan. "Did you hear anything of what I just said?"
"One hundred per cent. You were going on about my dashing good looks."
She broke her hand free and prodded at his chest. "Ha, you wish." Clementine focused back on the task at hand...whatever it was remained a mystery to him. She refused to show Louis until it was done, it seemed to involve a lot of flowers though, as she had a small pile of yellow and purple flowers resting beside her.
"You were talking about having a balcony." He chimed in, letting the sunrays consume him once again.
Surprising her, Clementine looked back at him, letting the peaceful moment truly sink in. His soft face glowed beneath the afternoon sun, the desire to brush a loose dread from his face grew a little stronger, but she decided against it, letting him rest instead. "My friend at school had one and I thought it was the coolest thing ever."
Louis could totally tell she was watching him, smirking a small bit. "They are cool. My parents' bedroom had a balcony and when they weren't home I'd sit out there and people watch."
"You would watch...people?"
His eyes fluttered open, trying to decipher her emotions. Concern, perhaps? "Well, I would watch them and try to guess what their lives were like. So, a balcony it is! What else do you want?" He swiftly changed the subject in hopes it would get rid of the definite look of concern on Clementine's face. Luckily (and surprisingly) her lips softened back into a smile.
"You said you wanted a piano, so where do you want it to be?" She went back to the flowers in front of her, her fingers swirling in between the petals and stems. It had been a long time since she had done any sort of craft, let alone this task specifically.
"Hmmm, perhaps in front of the fireplace."
"Oh, so there's a fireplace now?"
Louis winked and gave her a finger gun with both hands. "Yes, on floor three hundred and twelve. That can be my music room, I'll have sheet music neatly filed away, different songs for different occasions. I'll have the piano leaning against a tall window, so I can look out at the world while I play." Reminiscent of his old house in a way. The family piano was on the second floor, propped against a wide window in the corner.
Clementine let that image soak in; Louis in clean clothes, jazzing up their home as the sun - bright as the one now above them - poured itself over his shiny, mahogany piano. Maybe she would sit beside him or just watch him from the door, either way, what bliss. "We're really doing all nine hundred and fourteen floors?"
"Hey, it was your idea."
She chuckled to herself as she ripped off a loose stem from her creation. "Hell yeah. You still wanna teach me how to play?"
"Damn right I do, you'll soon be able to play better than I can!" Whenever Clem sat beside his piano his heart skipped a few beats, she fit there so perfectly beside him. The bench was made for two, but he couldn't imagine anyone else taking up that space beside him. He didn't want to, it was always her.
"I'll never be able to play as good as you." She muttered, fiddling with the yellow petals of one of the smaller flowers. Her mind drifting away to his musical prowess, he was truly a king behind the keys.
The non-human sputtering noise Louis made almost put her to tears. "Puh-lease! You can shoot better than me, hunt better than me, run faster than me-" He began to count off his fingers on how she was practically perfect in every way.
"Not anymore, dummy." She wiggled her bandaged knee above them, showing off just how redundant his point was.
He waved it off, his head shaking rapidly. "That don't mean nothing! I've seen you zip around on those crutches, but just to make things easier, how does an elevator sound? Wait-no no! A massive staircase that can turn into a slide."
"You and your damn slides." Total dork. Her dork.
"What? They're fun!"
"This house is gonna look ridiculous from the outside." Nine hundred and fourteen floors, slides, windows reaching the roof and purple to top it all off. It seemed like a house that had 'Louis' written all over it.
Louis brushed it off with another dramatic wave of his hand. "Nah it'll be 'right, speaking of the outside, what do we want? A garden? Perhaps a jumping castle? A trampoline!?"
"As long as there's a treehouse I'm fine."
"Hell yeah! A woman of fine taste," Her giggles echoed all around him, he could live in that sound forever if it were possible. "Also, no roads around the house. I lived in a city, it's not fun waking up to morning traffic every day."
"No roads? How the hell are we gonna travel?"
He shrugged casually, seemingly having an answer for every question and rebuttal she threw his way. "We'll walk. Besides, given your luck with cars, it's probably the safest option."
Clementine scoffed, clutching at her chest. "Okay ouch. At least I know how to drive."
"Is that what you call it?"
She prodded at his ribs, bringing out a meek giggle from him. "If you're gonna bully me I'll leave."
"Okay, I'll stop," He held his hands up in defence, his grin growing wildly when she grabbed one and laced her fingers through it. "It'll be quiet. No guns or weapons, no walkers, no violence. We'll be able to forget every bad thing that happened." His thumb graced along her bumpy tattoo, rubbing away at the dried dirt that hid it away. Remembering the story behind it, he winced at the sordid ending
For Clementine, there was a lot she would like to forget. Somehow Louis made it all better, his superpower. Taking the bad and reminding her that they don't spoil the good and there were always more good memories than bad when it came to their intimate time together. "Can it be by the sea?"
"The sea, huh?" He purred, surprised at this revelation.
"Yeah. I always liked the beach. Maybe we'll get lucky and find an old beach shack, stay in there."
"The sea it is! I promise to remember the sunscreen," He was sure there would be a red tinge to his cheeks after today, but the risk of a painful burn was worth it to talk to Clementine. Weather like this was rare, it reminded him of how the world was before. He and Marlon used to play soccer beneath this sun, running back and forth on the grass till one eventually fell to the ground in defeat. "Y'know, I fall more in love with this house every day."
"Me too," They stayed in silence for a while, the only sounds being the raw Earth; chirping birds, a distant cricket. One could forget about what was happening beyond the walls of the school. "Okay, done!"
Louis opened one eye, trying to get a good peek at what was within her hands. "Whatcha got there?"
"Sit up!"
Her wish was his law, Louis pulled himself up beside her, their knees brushing against the other. His smile was totally goofy and lop-sided; a combination of drowsiness, warmth and love.
Within her hands lay two crowns, made with a bunch of yellow and purples flowers. "It's kinda messy but..." She gently placed one atop of his head, covering her shy smile at how it slightly drooped to one side. "Every king needs a crown."
Louis' fingertips pinched one of the vibrant petals, shivering at how soft it was. "You've been making this for me the whole time?"
Clementine threw on her own crown, grinning from ear to ear. "My babysitter taught me how to make them, haven't done it in a while." It balanced neatly on her curls, the petals bouncing in the breeze. A mighty fine matching pair they were, a king and queen of no land but they didn't mind one bit.
Louis shimmied in closer and pecked the tip of her nose. "I love them." He was truly the grandest king in all the land, with the most beautiful and charming queen with him.
Clem wasn't sure if the burning of her cheeks was from the sun or from her cheeky boyfriend. Most likely a combination. "I dunno about you but if I spend any longer out here I'll fry."
"Me too, wanna go find AJ?" He stretched his arms up to the sky, glancing around the courtyard. The only other kids he could see was Willy on the watchtower and Ruby and Violet by the greenhouse.
Clementine stretched her own leg, trying her best to conceal the oncoming cramp. A dull ache she was slowly getting used to as the days went by. "Yeah, I've left him alone for too long."
Her crutches were leaning against the picnic table, waiting diligently as ever. He passed them over to her, waiting till she was comfortable before taking off, his arms at the ready to grab her, just in case. "Maybe we can have a throne room."
It took Clementine a second to register what he had said. "Hold up, a throne room? Really?"
"Of course! We shall live like royalty, only the finest for us." He opened the hallway door for her, letting her go in first.
"Says the guy who grew up on expensive taste." She didn't even try to hide the sarcastic tone, having an ex-rich boyfriend provided ample jokes for her and by god, she was gonna take up the chance to use them.
"Okay, perhaps, but you have not experienced fine dinging until you have tried a Pâté-" He immediately stopped talking when he saw Clem's face drop. Following her stare, his face too fell at the sight before them.
Clem disturbed the silence by letting out an obvious and fake cough. "AJ, what are you doing?"
The tot dropped a paintbrush from his grasp, specks of purple paint splattering on the wooden floor. "Oh...hi Clem, hey Louis." He had the same innocent glare in his eyes that Louis gets whenever he fucked up, which was a face he had on the daily. Like a puppy caught eating away at a shoe.
Who? Me?
"Where did you find all of this paint?" Louis peered into the dirty tin bucket, his eyes bombarded with more purple paint than he had ever seen before. It was a bright lavender shade, reminding him of the plants in his mothers' garden.
AJ slowly rose to his feet, hands held tightly behind his back and eyes glued to the floor. Guilty. "It was in Tenns' old room. Please don't be mad."
Clem couldn't take her eyes off the door, who could? It was bright purple! She stuttered for a moment, trying to process what could possibly be going through AJ's mind. "I don't even know what you're doing." Is this the reaction her parents had when they found her drawing on her bedroom walls? Just pure confusion and a dumbfounded wonderment??
AJ looked up at her, his big brown eyes pleading his innocence. "Well, you and Louis always go on about your purple house but I don't have enough paint for the whole school, so I thought I'd paint your door."
The couple stood solemnly with both their jaws wide open, their eyes locked onto the wet paint, making their once simple brown door a pastel purple. They both had to admit, it was a lovely colour. Briefly sharing a knowing glance, Louis kneeled down to AJ first, shocking the young boy with his sudden and wide smile. "How could we ever be mad? This is awesome, kiddo."
Clem admired the smooth stroke of his handiwork, he had been practising his colouring a lot more than usual recently. He would be a natural talent in no time. "This is so nice of you, goofball," She motioned for him to come closer, giggling when he barreled his small body into hers. "Thank you, for giving us our purple home."

3 H ☁ for mags/pickle? 8)
fic prompts - (jail cell, blackout, lipstick)
It hadn’t been Pickles’ first time in a cell. Or the first time he woke up in one completely unaware of how he had gotten there in the first place. It had just been the first time in a while. The fact that he hadn’t experienced that level of disorientation in a while threw him off. And the realization that he didn’t exactly have a ton of Snakes ‘n’ Barrels money or fame for possible bail set him on edge. He hoped that it was for something minor, just a regular public intoxication, not resisting arrest or armed robbery or some horseshit that might actually take him to court or prison. Again, the money that could help clear this up in a good out of court settlement was far, far from his fingertips at this point.
The sound of a different cell door opening had woken him up. Pickles rubbed his eyes and inhaled sharply. The conversation and lights and smells all flew around like little cartoon birds around his head before settling in his skull to nest painfully. The feeling of nausea and sluggishness associated with a hangover-inducing migraine made him lurch forward for a second, rub his face and smack dry lips.
He sat there for a moment, face in his hands, trying to focus. Phones rang. The distant sound of crying bounced off tile. Muted conversations he heard two words of at best. And right next to him, at his side, a snore. A thin, high one that ended in a click. A snore that was oddly comforting in its immediate familiarity - considering how Pickles would usually wake up to it at three in the morning. Usually accompanied by a nightmare of being eaten alive by a snake, or strangled by vines, only to find long limbs wrapped around him and hair that was not his in his face and mouth. And the source of the snore’s face pressed against him, breathing hotly on his skin and whining at any attempt Pickles made at prying himself free.
Pickles looked down next to him and saw the source in the flesh. Right now, it was a lump of curls with long legs stretched out the length of the bench, boot-clad feet dangling off the edge. He groaned and sat up against the concrete wall before reaching a hand out to shake the lump’s shoulder.
“Magnus,” Pickles muttered. “Magnus. Magnus? Magnus!”
“Five more minutes,” was the muffled response, Magnus’ face buried in the jacket bunched under his head in a makeshift pillow. A hand reached out from under his body to swat Pickles’ away in annoyance.
“Five fuckin’ nothin’, dude, wake your ass up,” he hissed in annoyance. “We’re in jail, dipshit.”
“What?” Magnus jolted awake, legs kicking out, head lifting up to look around at their surroundings. At the realization they were, in fact, in jail, he groaned. “Ohhh, fuck…”
“Yeah, oh fuck!” Pickles replied incredulously. “You know what happened?”
“No? You...don’t?” Magnus heaved himself up with a grunt, stretching his arms and cracking his neck. “Shit.”
Pickles inspected him for clues. He couldn’t see himself, but if he saw his apparent partner in crime, there might be a hint as to how they got here. A vivid bruise was forming on Magnus’ cheek but beyond that, he looked normal. His hair was wild and puffed out like an annoyed cat, his shirt was annoyingly unbuttoned three buttons too far and-
“The fuck’s this?” Pickles asked suddenly, jabbing an accusing finger at his chest.
Black lipstick. Everywhere. On his face, on his neck, leading down into his shirt. Magnus looked down at himself, rubbed one of the marks and looked at his fingers. Pickles rubbed his own lips and saw the back of his hand come back clean. That wasn’t his.
“Lipstick?” said Magnus with a cautious tone. Pickles crossed his arms and sucked his teeth, making Magnus roll his eyes. “We’re not arguing about this of all fuckin’ things right now! And you, you’re covered in the shit too!”
He dragged another finger across Pickles’ face and showed it to him. Red. Okay, fine. What’s good for the goose was good for the...other...goose. But that doesn’t negate the fact that there was an implication of two missing people in this equation. One of whom was wearing black lipstick and was going to get a thorough fucking talking to if Pickles got his hands on them. Pickles looked around at the slumped over drunks and surly faces that were their new roommates. None of them struck Pickles as his type and while Magnus had lower standards, their faces were bare too.
“Mag. Don’t fuck with me. If you remember anything, tell me, dude!” Pickles begged. He didn’t even care about the lipstick at this point. He just wanted some kind of answer. “Even if it involves you new lil’ girlfriend or whatever-”
“Man, if you don’t shut the fuck up about this I’m kicking a drum in when we get home,” snapped Magnus in turn. “Like, what if we had a foursome, lucky us! So drop it. We need to...call...someone…”
Pickles decided he was going to pout. That was an easier solution than trying to figure out how they got into this mess, or how they would get out. A hand found his knee, which he jerked away pettily, pulling a heavy sigh from Magnus. They sat like that in silence for a moment. For a long moment, it seemed, as Pickles found himself blinking and opening his eyes to someone being escorted out of the cell. It was cold. He still had a headache. He was sore. And now he was cold on top of everything.
The cold was okay. But the chills that his hangover gave him on top of everything was almost embarrassing, feelings as if everyone could hear his teeth chatter over the commotion going around them. But he sat and suffered and wondered where his jacket went. It was October, so he had to have worn it out. That was his good jacket with the fun patches. He was going to be so mad if he couldn’t fucking find it again. It was probably already lost forever.
The shivering was offset by the feeling of denim being tucked around his shoulders. Pickled was jerked out of his thinking and he slipped his arms inside the sleeves. They fell over his hands like a kid playing dress up, but it was warm. And smelled like cigarettes and sandalwood and sweat and...Magnus.
“Thanks,” Pickles said softly, cowed by the simple gesture into dropping his anger. Magnus grunted in response. “Thank youuuu.”
“Welcome,” was the reply. Magnus looked over at Pickles and cocked a brow. “You still pissed off at me for something you did too?”
Pickles blinked.
“No,” he grumbled. “Sorry.”
“Apology accepted,” Magnus chuckled as he spoke, nudging Pickles’ foot with his own. Pickles nudged in turn. Jail footsies wasn’t what he pictured when he said yes to the offer of dropping acid and watching Star Wars as a date a few months ago, but it somehow felt fitting. “Very grown of you, Pickles.”
Before Pickles could say something back, the cell door rolled up.
“Hammersmith? And…” the officer sighed. “Drummer? Bail’s posted.”
“Oh, thank fuck! Me! Us!” Pickles yelped, jumping up and waving awkwardly like it was a roll call.
“You call someone?” asked Magnus as they walked out. Pickles shook his head, slipping his arm in Magnus’ to draw him close. “I didn’t. Who the hell-”
“Me,” a voice rumbled next to them, making them both jump. “You uh...you called me. For some reason.”
The source and their savior was a very displeased, very sleepy Nathan Explosion. Who was standing trying to look stern despite his grogginess in a stained hoodie and pajama pants. Pickles started in surprise, looking up at Magnus for an answer, who shrugged.
“So, you thought drowing in a goddamn fountain was gonna go well, Pickles? Or spitting at a fuckin’ cop, Magnus?” scolded Nathan. “And don’t you two have any other friends? Shit, we’ve hung out three times, y’all.”
So that’s what happened. Why the kid they knew through their dealer was the first number in either of their brains was yet another question they didn’t have the answers for. Or why he posted their bail. Or why they both felt properly reprimanded by someone who was probably in middle school when they were graduating. But things just happen.
“We do, but! Thanks man!” Pickles said happily, reaching out to pat Nathan on the shoulder. “You’re a good one. Our new best friend.”
Nathan rolled his eyes, trying to tug the smile on his face back into a frown. Pickles chuckled to himself as he reached inside of Magnus’ jacket to steal his cigarettes, if he still had them, pulling out a piece of paper instead.
Had a real fun time. Call us. Staci and Luna. XOXOXO.
“Hey!” the call jolted Pickles from his thoughts before he could even process what he was looking at.
The three turned their heads to the source of the sound. Faces pressed against the bars of the next to where Magnus and Pickles had been, two women peered out at them with wide grins. And smeared red and black lipstick on their mouths. One shook her extended thumb and pinky against her head and mouthed “Call me!” while the other blew a kiss. Nathan whistled a sharp note, nodding his approval when Magnus and Pickles looked back at him.
“Good job,” he said before patting Magnus’ arm. “Let’s get you guys home.”
The cold night air was more than welcome when they stepped out into it. The smell of falling leaves, crisp autumn and freedom. Nathan jerked his head at the beat up pickup parked in front of the station and popped the seat back for one of them. Pickles climbed in the back, immediately regretting the decision when both seats were crammed against him to make room for two sets of long legs. But it didn’t matter. If he remembered right, their apartment wasn’t too far away, and it was made alright when a hand reached into the back and found his knee. He smiled and set his own hand on top of it. Nathan gazed into the backseat for a second, eyes scanning Pickles’ face before looking down at the obvious affection, and cocked his head before starting the truck.
“Ohhh!” he said after a few minutes of silence, making both Magnus and Pickles turn tired gazes at him. “Your apartment only has one room!”
They really shouldn’t have laughed. He did drive out in the middle of the night and bust them out. But it couldn’t be helped.

Fall's Breeze
Joel/original female character
She was gathering berries when the gunshot echoed trough the woods. Immediatly crouching, she pulled the riffle from her back to peer trough the scope.
The hill had kept most stragglers away but every once in awhile, some would venture up.
She saw a man stalking after a wounded deer. A huntsman than. Maybe he would completely miss her cabin and leave her alone. She kept a close eye on him, noting how good of a hunter he was but careless for there was a trap just ahead and he didn't seem to notice it.
"Fuck's sake..." She murmured, getting up and waving at him. He didn't even look up. She whistled and this time he did look at her, confused. The deer ran off, causing a despleased expression to form on his features. He threw his hands up in a "what the fuck" motion. She signed for him to stop and started making her way down. The man waited.
She was fast and silent, he watched with awe as she jumped and dodged trees and branches, knowing the woods as the palm of her hand.
"Do you want to tell me why the fuck you made me loose my dinner?" His voice was raspy, his accent thick. Her brow furrowed. She leant down, picked a rock and threw it at the trap. He saw as it desapeared on the ground and heard the echo of it hitting the bottom of a pit hidden by leafs and vegetation.
His head tilted to the side as the grip on his weapon losened and his other hand rested on his hip cocked to the side.
"Well shit..." He didn't seem to find any other word of appreciation.
"Your welcome. Bye, nice to meet you" she said preparing to turn back.
She heard the rustling of something near by and instinctively crouched and aimed. The man followed suit.
The deer came into view, stumbling. She grabed the knife from her hip, slowly approaching the animal. He observed attently.
She ended it quickly, wipping the knife on a rag hanging from her belt. "There you go, we're even" she told him and turned back to start the climb to her home. "I don't think so ma'am" he shuffled after her. She raised an eyebrow at him.
"Well, you saved me from falling into a trap and you help me get the deer, doesn't seem even to me. How can I repay you?" He completly put his gun away. Silly move, she thought, but pondered for a second.
"Well, do you have a horse?" He looked suspicious but shook his head in negation.
"I don't know how far your camp his but you might not get there by sundown, so, if you want, you head back up hill with me, I help you carry the deer and in exchange you give me a nice steak." His face contorted in confusion. Steak? That's all she wants?
He pondered as his eyes flickered between the woman, the dead animal and the sun already downing. A small nod was all he managed.
They carried the carcass uphill to her cabin. As he saw the building he wandered how many people might be inside and if this was an ambush.
"I'm Jane by the way" she pointed her chin at a table on a side shed and they both lowered the heavy weight onto it.
"Joel" he answered back, breathless. Jane chuckled, he was considerably older than her but she found him charming in a way.
The cabin was devoid of people. Jane indicated a bucket of water to wash up.
"How long have you been up here?" Joel inquired, getting a suspicious look in response. Jane prepared a pot with water and a mix of vegetables, lost in thought.
"5 years." The words finnaly formed. Joel couldn't help the "damn" that escaped his lips. "And I would like to keep it that way" she added.
"Don't worry about me, I'm just passing, I live near by, in Jackson." The pot was set on top of a stove and the fire was started, next they went outside to prepare the meat.
"Why are you out here alone then, Joel?"
Every time a question was asked, the first response was always suspition. That said a lot about humanity nowadays.
"I needed some time to myself." That's all she got.
The sound of birds chirping into hidding for the night, the rustle of the leaves in the wind and the sharp blades slashing meticulosly trough the flesh and veins and tendons, filled the evening chill air.
"5 years is a long time for someone so young" Jane chuckled at the remark.
"I am not that young" she pulled a hatchet and cut clean trough the bone.
"You must have been only a child when this started" she then nodded. Joel found it endearing that she was even more quiet than him.
"Are you from Texas? I don't mean to assume but your accent..."
"Ya, I am a Texan boy" they both chuckled. "I wouldn't call you a boy, but hey, whatever float's your boat" Jane shrugged, getting a gasp out of him, she heard him murmur "I'm not that old".
She opened a couple of coolers to stash the meat in and packed them to be ready whenever he wanted to leave.
"What about you?" Joel gestured towards the hazel eyed, brown wavy haired woman. She hummed inquisitive.
"Where are you from?" She raised her eyebrows in understanding.
"I'm a long way from home. On the other side of the ocean to be precise" Joel could see that, she had a diferent kind of beauty, something he couldn't put his finger on.
"How'd you end up in the states than?" He observed as she stirred the veggies in the pot and heated up a skillet on the other mouth of the stove.
"My fathers business trip" that's all she said.
Jane seared the large steaks on the skillet as Joel removed his boots and holsters. Again she thought he was silly but she knew he could defend himself with his bare hands if need be. He was larger and taller then her, if he wanted, he could easily overpower her. And that both terrified and exited her.
Joel looked around, noting the openness of the space, all in one room except the bathroom wich was outside. He could see another door but what he assumed was her bed, was on a corner of the same room they were in. Again, distrust was the first sentiment to rise, but he tried to ease his mind, this girl had been nothing but kind to him.
"Have you been alone for 5 years?" He dared.
"No." She dryly replied, but after a couple of minutes she decided to open up for the first person she had in awhile. "A couple of teens stayed with me in the beginning but then moved on. Found them dead in a nearby village sometime later. Then a year after that I took in an injured woman, she tried to kill me, now she's buried. I mannaged to keep hidden ever since." Joel whistled in surprise.
"What about you?" Jane cleaned her hands on a towel.
"We have a lot of people back on the town." He got up to grab a couple of plates she had taken from a cabinet and set them on the table.
"Any family?" She retorted.
"Ya, my brother and... My daughter." He paused for a minute, thinking about how broken the relationship between him and Ellie was.
Jane served the food onto the plates and they dined mostly in silence. She observed him while he wasn't looking, the grey specled hair and beard untammed, the flannel covering a grey shirt looking older than him, his hands large and calloused. He caught her, his dark green eyes on hers. The pair stopped eating altogether, staring at eachother.
Joel cleared his throat and for a second she saw a hint of crimson tinge his cheeks. But his eyes didn't stop on hers, instead she saw him studying her wavy, messy hair, her small pointy nose, her lush parted lips and down her neck, the cream of her skin, the dirty white of her shirt opened to the chest, she saw his eyes disapear further down and then he closed them and shook his head slightly.
She felt embarassed. He said he had a daughter, probably has a wife or someone back home... Why would he want her? But again, she had been alone for so long that the thought lingered.
She finished her steak not looking up again. But he enjoyed the view.
"How old are you?" His voice sounded calm and lulling.
"About 30 I would guess... I don't even know anymore. Doesn't really matter." He clicked his tongue. She wasn't that young after all.
"And your daughter?" Jane dared, picking up the plates and cuttlery. "Well, she is 17 and a hell of a storm" Joel chuckled fondly. They talked about trivial things at the table, like the places they've been and raided, close encounters with infected, the weapons they prefered and so on. The moonlight slivers poured into the room, a moment passed when their eyes locked again in silence.
"Well, Joel, if you want to rest, my bed is yours." The man looked stunned at her for a second.
"I am going to set my alarms around the cabin, feel free to make yourself at home, I'll be back in a bit." He still didn't know what that meant. She did flirt a couple of times and he kept checking her out but he wasn't sure what was happening.
He watched as her hips swayed away from him and all he wanted was to grab her and sit her on his lap.
She went around the perimeter in a ritualistic fashion, setting her "alarms" and a couple of mines a little further away. She wanted him, she wanted the warmth of another body, she had been alone for so long. And so was he. After Tess he never had anyone else.
Joel took of his flannel and sat on the edge of the mattress on the floor, waiting for her, his heartrate elevated in a good way for the first time in many many years.
Jane sat on the porch, feeling the cool air swirling her hair around, a shiver ran down her spine. After a long introspection she went inside. The man had his forearms prepped on his knees and head lowered in thought. Jane took of her boots and then her coat. She turned around to unbutton her pants.
Joel observed her now, her glutes contracting as her legs slid out of the fabric. He got up silently and walked to her. She felt the heat of his body pressing against her back and a loud sigh escaped her lips.
Joel kissed her neck, his beard prickling her soft skin and she hummed, her hand went to his thigh bunching up the denim between her fingers, pulling his body to hers. He caressed her upper arms pulling her closer. Jane pressed her butt back, getting a sharp inhale from him.
The urgency took over them. His hands quick to pull her underwear down her lean legs, she didn't blame him, instead bending over the table in front of her. His fingers dug in at her waist to control the rythm of the thrusts, only the first slow and carefull as he groaned loudly, her insides twisting at the sound, one of her hands curling around his wrist. The last one was so desperate for release that the table shifted forward.
He layed over her covered back, his forehead pressed to her spine feeling the heart beat underneath.
When both their breaths became steady and calm, Joel kissed the back of her head.
"I'm sorry...I haven't been with anyone for a long time..." Jane raised slowly not to startle him, he came out of her with the movement, she turned to him, searching his features, her cheeks flushed.
"We have all night..." She whispered close to his lips, the warm breath swaying his beard.
Joel's pupils were wide with desire, staring at her lips, beautiful, plump lips. He regretted not starting there so this time he savoured them, trapping the bottom one between his, sucking, gently scraping his teeth on it, she moaned, her tongue dancing with his, both their hands pressing eachother closer.
His clever fingers unbuttoning her shirt, her hands tugging his up. The rough of his palms laying flush against her ribs, the tips of his fingers gently brushing her spine as her nails ever so slightly scratched down the lenght of his scarred back. He picked her up, her legs circling his waist, clinging to this complete stranger.
For a second she imagined him stealing all of her belongings, maybe even calling his friends and raid her home, kill her or worse... But as if sensing her distress, Joel layed her down on the mattress and pulled back from her enough to stare into her eyes.
"If you want, I can leave..." His voice was barely a whisper of uncertainty and sadness.
"No, please don't." Jane's hands craddled his face tenderly. He responded with a deep sigh of contentment returning to her lips, then her neck, her clavicle, her chest. She tasted of berries, pine and a little salty. She reminded him of a cozy fall evening sitting by a fireplace, watching a movie and eating snacks.
He came back up, wanting more of her lips but she pushed him to the side, inverting the hourglass.
Jane kissed him as sensual as anyone had ever done so, his hands on her hips, her back arched in a beautiful bow. His neck smelled of gunpowder and coffee, but the scent of his chest was of wood shavings. She kissed her way down his scarred belly, his breath hitching when she didn't stop there. His hand weaved on her hair. He tried to think of a time when he felt this good but the movements of her mouth and lips and tongue brought him back to the present moment, and there was absolutely no other place he'd rather be.
"Jane..." Her name velvet and sweet on his lips when blissfulness delivered him to the most restfull sleep he had in a long time.
So, I did a thing because Joel deserved better...

Chapter 14 - Fortress
The chiming of the grandfather clock roused Gold from his bitter reverie, and in a single motion he crumpled the single sheet of paper still on the desk beside his hand, and rose to his feet to take it to the fireplace in the lounge. He hadn’t meant to light a fire until morning, but after the message he just received from Jefferson, he knew he would be getting little sleep, and so it would be good to be warm. Two birds, one stone.
He used the sheet of crumpled paper to light the kindling, onto which he built his fire. He knew he should answer Jefferson, but he wasn’t going to do anything until he was certain of his own safety. Storybrooke had been his haven, a shelter from the threat of unfinished business, and he wasn’t about to put that in jeopardy. Not for any reason.
If they found him, it was only a step of logical thought for them to find Bae, and he was not going to let that happen.
Moving slowly, leaning heavily on his cane, he made his way to the bookcase in the corner of the room, and reaching to the top shelf took down his copy of Selected Poems of Robert Burns and flipped the book open to the back cover, and ran his fingertips along the edge, where the cover met the spine. He quickly found the roughened area where glue had replaced the stitching and with his fingernail, began to chip away at the glue as he walked with the book toward the kitchen.
It was much easier to open the space within the spine of the book where the small, silver key was hidden with the aid of a sharp knife. Still he was careful.  He didn’t want to damage the book any more than was necessary to access the key. Once it was in his hand, he set the book down on the kitchen table, and grabbing the flashlight from the small shelf beside the back door, headed out into the yard, and to the basement.
He was careful as he descended the steps, feeling for the edge of each with his cane even while looking at the steps barely illuminated in the dim light given off by the flashlight, and for perhaps the hundredth time reminded himself that he really should rewire the switch to the light so that it was at the top of the steps, and not on a pull cord at the bottom. Still, he reached the floor of the basement without incident and turned on the overhead light.
As he always did when he came down to the basement, he let his eyes settle over the spinning wheel he kept in the corner, beside the small loom. Neither were unused. In fact, he took a strange kind of pride in spinning his own yarn for the crafts he pursued, and the fabric he made on the loom. Some, he sold in the shop, others he used to augment the furnishings in the properties he owned. It was, and he sighed, a legacy of the time he sought to escape - his only means of escape - when the melancholy took him.
He shook it off. He had to. Almost ten years since he’d had any contact with Jefferson Milnor, and he didn’t imagine that after all that time the FBI Agent was contacting him on a whim. It could only mean that the man was in serious trouble.
He edged his way past the wheel, careful not to disturb it, to the door set in the far wall, and pushed the tiny key into the padlock that secured it shut. He stopped then. Why the hell should it matter to him what kind of trouble the man was in…?
”Really…?” the woman others would have called their mother but who, for him, could never be further from the maternal figure she named herself, swaggered in, hips swaying beneath her crisp black suit. The fascinator perched on the side of her head swayed as she came to a halt, dark feathers waving as though in an imperceptible breeze. “Did you really think I wouldn’t find out what you were planning?”
He stilled in the thrall of a terrible memory. The memory of his debt.
She stalked toward him, then around, finger trailing around him as she circled him. Her heels made a regular beat against the concrete floor of the hanger.
“I don’t ask for much,” she said. “You know that. Have you enjoyed privilege so long that you’ve forgotten what loyalty means?”
“Loyalty?” he scoffed. Privilege? Us takin’ the risks while you sit around playin’ God? Never a care for what the likes of us must dae to keep ye—”
“If you’re going to argue with me, at least have the decency not to sound so beastly!” she snapped. “But, no…” She appeared to be having a conversation with herself. “You know what I expect, and the cost of failing me.” She barely turned her head to instruct, over her shoulder, “Bring the boy.”
“No!” his voice rang out but once, before he fell to stammering, “You… y-y- ye can’t.  Please, not ma boy… he didn’t ever do anything wrong. Never crossed you.  That… that was me - would-a-been-me.  Please…”
“Oh, please… please don’t… he can’t…” she mocked him. “It’s different, isn’t it, when it’s one of your own?”
“Please… don’t… don’t hurt him,” he continued, heedless of her sarcasm.
She snapped her fingers and the green clad woman stepped up along side two other men who half dragged, half carried the struggling Baethan between them.
“Papa…!” Bae implored.
“It… It’ll be all right, Son,” he said, but Fiona interrupted him again.
“No… no I rather think not. You see, Baethan, your father’s not the man I thought he was, and unfortunately, that means you are the one that has to pain the price.”
Gold almost physically shook himself to break the replay before it could go further. Night after night he woke to the nightmare of his son’s pain, and the deep explosive sound of the gunshots that saved him… saved them both.
As if in sympathy, a burst of pain spread upwards from his ankle and into his calf, and he leaned heavily on the doorway he had been about to unlock.  No… he could not deny that he owed Jefferson his life, and more than that, the chance of life for his son.
With a flick of his wrist, and before he could second guess himself again, Gold released and removed the padlock, and pulled open the door to the room beyond. He reached around the doorway, his fingers brushing cobwebs as he flicked on the light, and then stepped within.
Allowing himself only the further delay of a deep breath, he moved toward a bank of electronic equipment, and flipped the switch to turn it on, watching as one by one lights blinked to life and the muted whir of cooling fans filled the air. As the blinking of lights became steady, he pulled out the sliding shelf on which a keyboard rested, and reached to turn on the screen to the computer, to enter the code, rendered in the same cypher as the one used by Agent Milnor in his message, that would activate the security system.
Never. Again!
**
“Jesus, Gold, you look like crap!”
“Good morning to you too, Sheriff Swan,” he replied to her greeting as he grounded his cane between his legs in front of him, both hands folded over the ornate handle.
“Yeah,” she huffed, “that too.” Standing from behind her desk, she snatched the bunch of keys from the top of it and began to move toward the two cells, one of which - as usual - was occupied by Leroy. It seemed to Gold like he was either the town drunk, or the town trouble maker. “Come to offer your services to our friend here?”  She nodded toward where the man in question sat with his head in his hands, evidently nursing the mother of all hangovers.
“Hardly,” Gold said dryly. “I doubt Mister Maren could afford my services, and even if he could, unless he’s committed a greater crime than drinking himself into a stupor…?”
He trailed off, affording the sheriff the opportunity to fill him in on the details, if there were any to be had. Instead it was Leroy that answered.
“Oh, go to hell, Gold,” he moaned and winced as he raised his head from his hands, squinting at the light as he did so, and then moaned again as the sheriff - deliberately, as far as Gold could tell - rattled the keys against the cell door as she unlocked it. “What would you know about drinking yourself into oblivion.”
You’d be surprised, Gold thought, as the sheriff admonished the drunk to keep his nose clean and not to end up in her cells again for at least another month. Small chance of that, Gold decided as the sheriff turned back to him.
“So, if you’re not here for Leroy, what are you here for,” she asked. “Doesn’t seem like you to be making a social call.”
“Oh, I’m not,” he assured her with a viper smile. No reason he couldn’t kill two birds with one stone, and it might provide him with a better chance to do as he came for. “Simply to remind you that Miss Blanchard instructed me to call upon you for this month’s rent.”
“Ah, shit!” she answered, mumbling to herself afterwards, “I knew there was something I meant to do yesterday.”  Then to Gold, she added, “Take a check?”
“I prefer cash,” he said smoothly.
“Of course you do,” she muttered.
“The bank is open,” he suggested, staring down at the pocket watch he had drawn from his waistcoat.
“Can’t leave the station unmanned,” she said.
“I’m certain I could answer any phone calls that might occur during your brief absence,” he said.
“I just—” she began, but he interrupted her.
“After today, I’m afraid I’ll have to impose a ten percent late fee.”
“Ten perc—” she spluttered. “That’s outrageous!”
He spread his hands. “And yet, if you’d care to examine the terms of the lease, which you signed, I think you’ll find it’s quite clear.”
He fixed her with a level stare, until eventually, she threw up her hands.
“Fine!” she said in a tone that told him it was anything but fine. “Don’t touch anything. She told him as she pulled her red leather jacket from the back of her chair and shrugged into it as she walked toward the door, calling back, “Except the phone. You can touch that… but only if it rings.”
“What do you take me for, Sheriff Swan?” he asked with only the slightest hint of sarcasm.
“You don’t want me to answer that.” Her voice drifted in from the hall beyond the glass divide.
As soon as she was out of sight, Gold moved around to take the chair behind the sheriff’s desk and pulled the keyboard closer to him. He knew he wouldn’t have much time to do as he needed to, so quickly using a workaround for the not-so-secure Town of Storybrooke municipal server, and then logged himself in through remote access to his own VPN, he accessed the portal to the wider law enforcement networks.
What seemed like centuries ago now, he had created a ghost login with a high security clearance in the event that he had to do something like this; hoping that he never had to.
As soon as he was connected, he ran a search for disturbances and BOLOs in Boston and the surrounding areas.
A shiver of ice stiffened his spine when he read of the multi-agency raid on an estate on the western edge of the Greater Boston area believed to be the center of a human trafficking organization, and a hotbed of drug use and supply. He swallowed hard, recognizing the modus operandi of his mother’s nest of vipers and villains from which he’d managed to make his costly escape. Jefferson had been a young agent undercover then. Was he still?
The raid appeared to have gone badly, with many agents injured, several dead, and he found himself hoping, strangely it felt to him, that Agent Milnor was not among them, but no. The man was like a cat with at least eight of his lives remaining. He knew eight because he had been the one responsible for the loss of the ninth.
Listening for the telltale footfalls that would signal the sheriff’s return, he continued searching, making the assumption that Jefferson had escaped - but where would he go? He heard the squeak of the door - thank the gods for the town’s lack of maintenance - just as he spotted it: the report of an officer involved shooting, well, two officers to be exact and they appeared to have been on the receiving end of said shots, at a disused shopping district several miles outside of Boston. There was an associated BOLO for a stolen Ford Taurus, an agency car, and a warning that the perpetrator was armed and dangerous, and appeared to have a hostage in tow.
It had to be Milnor, but who the hell did he have with him?
Out of time, he quickly emailed the information to himself, shut down his access and switched logins to guest where he pulled up a game of Solitaire and made a few, deliberately careless moves, and was just making a concentrated effort to make a few more when Sheriff Swan walked into the room.
“Gold!” she snapped, and he looked up at her with a sardonic smile. “I told you not to touch anything.”
“You expected me to stand the whole time on this leg?” he tapped his ruined ankle with the end of his cane before looking back up at her with his head tilted to the side.
“And the computer?” she folded her arms across her chest.
“Bored,” he said, then added, “Rent?”
Sheriff Swan came around the side of her desk just as he pushed himself to his feet. She huffed. “Wouldn’t have taken you for a Solitaire kind of guy.” He simply raised an eyebrow, and she fished a stuffed envelope out from her pocket and thrust it in his direction. “It’s all there.”
“I don’t doubt it, Sheriff,” he said as he took it and then moved around her, wound as tight as a spring, but trying to appear as confident as always. He made it all the way to the door before he turned back to her and said, “I’m not.”
“Hmm?” she asked.
“I much prefer the game where you have to work out where all the bombs are hidden.” He wrinkled his nose in a little sneer as he said, “I love the sound they make when they go off.” Then with barely a pause added, “Good day, Miss Swan.”

Sound Out
Chapter 8: Aria Di Sorbetto
Hado woke up to a text from Jiro. She was asking if Hado wanted to see a new movie that had come out recently.
Jiro: Yeah there’s this new comedy movie we’ve been wanting to see
Hado: We?
Jiro: Ochako, Asui, Midoriya, and Shoji
Hado: Who’s Shoji?
Jiro: You know pro hero tentacole?
Hado: THAT’S HIM?! HELL YEAH I’D LOVE TO MEET ANOTHER PRO HERO
Jiro: Alright lay off the caps please. I’ll meet you at the movie around 4pm
Hado put away her phone and decided to train a bit before she would have to get ready to leave. She managed to get some quirk training in as well as strength training. She took a shower to clean up a bit. She dug through her duffle bag looking for something cute to wear out to the movies. She unfortunately didn’t pack any of her cute casual clothes when she left home 3 weeks ago. She opened up her wallet and did some mental math. Because the cottage she had been living in was stocked, she hadn’t spent any money recently. She made the bold decision to go out and buy a new outfit to treat herself. She had been working so hard recently that she told herself she deserved it. The movie theater she would be meeting them at was in the shopping district anyway.
Hado arrived in the shopping district looking for a nice shop to get a new outfit from. She settled on a AC Quarter’s because the clothes were moderately priced and wouldn’t break the bank. She double checked the time to make sure she had enough time to try the clothes on and leave. She had about an hour and a half before the set meeting time with Jiro.
Browsing through the clothes she decided she would buy herself a dress. She didn’t have very many so, what the hell, why not? She sorted through a lot of different styles, almost always turning down something with a floral pattern on it. Hado had nothing against flowers, they were just too busy of a design on the cloth. “Too short…. too long….too formal….too….risqué” She thought sorting through all of the dresses. She stopped at a cute blue dress that was a little bit past knee-length. It had a cinched waist, a squared off neckline, and cute little buttons going down the middle. The best part of it was that it had thin wavy lines on it that reminded her of her hero costume. She found the dress in her size and went to check out. She looked down at her feet on the way to the counter and realized she was wearing the same sneakers she had worn for almost 5 years now. They looked very beaten up. “maybe I should get a new pair of shoes too…”
Hado refused to wear heals. They sucked to walk in and they sucked to sing in. She looked at the variety of flats they had instead. She really liked the way the Tod’s shoes looked. Tod brand shoes were normally a little too pricey for her but she had the money to spare and purchase a pair of black ones.
On her way up to the counter she spotted a cute black choker and grabbed it boldly. Yeah, sure, chokers hadn’t been in style in a while, but she liked them and thought it would look cute with her dress. The cashier rang her up and gave her her total. “Is it like date night or something?” The woman behind the counter asked. “Oh no. I’m going to a movie with some friends. I just want to look cute for me and me along” Hado confidently responded. “Wish I had that same boldness” The lady replied. “Oh but you could! I bet you would look great in purple! Find a nice purple blouse, throw on some casual jeans and maybe some heels and you’ve got it made!” Hado threw out. She wasn’t sure where this advice was coming from, but the lady at the counter seemed to take it to heart. She smiled at Hado and thanked her. Hado waved back to the cashier as she walked out of the store. Hey, being a hero didn’t always mean catching villains or rescuing people.
Hado changed in a nearby bathroom and put her old clothes in the shopping bag she was given. She made her way to the movie theater. She had managed to arrive 5 minutes early surprisingly. She sat down on a bench right outside waiting for her friends. “You’re here too?” She heard a familiar voice from behind. She turned around to see Bakugo in casual clothing. “Oh yeah um Jiro invited me out to this movie. I think it’s going to be real stupid so I’m looking forward to it” Hado said. “Yeah, whatever” Bakugo responded.
About 2 minutes later, the others began to arrive. Jiro walked up with Ochako, Tsu, Midoriya, and the person Hado assumed was Shoji. He looked even cooler in person! Behind them she saw Ashido, Kaminari, Kirishima, and Sero. Ashido casually greeted Jiro. “Oh what a coincidence! We’re all here at the same time! Are you guys going to see the same movie too?” She asked innocently. Jiro mentioned the movie they were seeing, and it matched up. The whole group of pro heroes entered the theater.
“Well this is fucking weird”  Hado thought to herself. She was very suspicious of Ashido who she had learned had a penchant for causing a stir. It wasn’t ever harmful trouble; it was just a little exhausting. The groups of pro heroes chatted with each other as they looked for seats in the theater. Before they could pick Bakugo marched his way up all the way to the top. He glared at everyone, almost daring them to sit near him. They were used to this by now so they followed him up, but instead of sitting on his row, they sat in the row in front of him. They managed to all get there before Hado had a chance to make it up the stairs. She looked and noticed that most of the seats were already taken. She sighed and made her way all the way up to the top and sat by Bakugo. Bakugo looked over at her, noticing her exhausted look.
“Hey if you don’t want to sit next to me, there’s plenty of other chairs here” he snarled.
Hado laughed in response which made a few of the pro heroes turn their heads, surprised. “Please I think I can handle sitting by you. Besides, who else am I going to annoy all move with my color commentary” Hado teased. Bakugo shot back a smirk. The few that had looked back were so shocked they didn’t realize they were staring. The only one who didn’t bother looking back was Midoriya.
“Hey mind your own business you damn extras” Bakugo snapped and they all immediately turned their head back to the screen and continued their conversations. Hado snickered in response. “Will that ever get old?” She asked aloud. “I hope not” Bakugo replied.
Everything was going according to plan. Midoriya relaxed in his chair, a feeling of relief filling his body. He hoped this wasn’t too obvious of a set-up, but he knew his best friend would never have taken the initiative to ask Hado out. Midoriya remembered worrying about his friend and how he would even manage to make this happen. Luckily, he knew some of the smoothest people in town. Calling Mina, Denki, and Eijirou was a great idea. They had all brainstormed some ways of making this happen, throwing out the ideas that Bakugo would never go for, which was most of them. They all agreed that they had to trick him into a date because he was too much of an idiot to really act on those feelings. Hell the only person he really fully opened up to was Midoriya and he still didn’t mention how he felt about Hado to him. Midoriya knew though. Midoriya at least knew what a crush felt like.
The lights went down, and the previews started. “Oh shit I forgot to buy the popcorn!” Kaminari said loudly and jumped out of his seat. “Get a big one for us to share” Mina shouted to him as he left the theater. He gave a nod of understanding before disappearing out of view. “Idiot” Bakugo said under his breath. He looked over at Hado suppressing a laugh. “He just wants to make the movie experience a little more fun. It just feels a little more complete with popcorn you know?” She explained. “If you wanted some goddamn popcorn all you had to do was ask” Bakugo shot back and stood up to leave his seat. Hado looked shocked at Bakugo as he stomped out of the theater. He was still surprising her even after all the time they had been spending together. A warm smile found its place onto her face.
“Ooooo how are the love birds doing?” Ashido teased, looking back at Hado. Hado was thankful the lights had gone out so Ashido couldn’t see how red her face got. “Shut up. It’s not like that. This is just how Bakugo is” Hado replied. “I can’t remember the last time Bakugo got me popcorn at a movie” Kirishima stated. “Oh, you mean that time that never happened?” Sero added. The pro heroes started giggling. A few other people who were in the theater turned around and shushed them. “Oh come on it’s just the previews, don’t be so uptight” Hado replied. One of the people who had turned around started glaring at her. “Ugh I promise you won’t hear them again okay?” Hado said in an attempt to make peace. The person turned back around with a huff. “Not sure how you’re going to do that. We happen to be a very noisy bunch” Ashido said loudly. Luckily Hado was expecting it and stopped the soundwaves from reaching the people in front of them. Midoriya was the one to laugh this time. “She’s a sound hero Ashido. And she’s very good at what she does. That’s probably why Bakugo has taken a liking to her” Midoriya said turning around to smile at Hado. Her face turned beet red again. “There’s no way he’s interested in me as more than just like…. a training partner, or like a pro hero to work with. Yeah I’m just basically a coworker to him” Hado rambled in her head, making sense of everything the others were implying. Kaminari came back with a big bucket of popcorn and took his place. “What’d I miss?” He whispered to Jiro. “Just us picking on Hado” She responded. “Aww man I miss out on all the fun” he said upset but pushed a handful of popcorn into his mouth.
Bakugo came back with a relatively normal sized bag of popcorn, stomping the whole way back up to his seat. “I better not have missed anything good loser” He said without taking his eyes off of the screen. “I thought you weren’t interested in a movie like this” Hado threw right back at him. “I’m not. I’m just here to tear down this shitty movie. I don’t want to miss a good chance to fucking annihilate whoever this dumb director is” Bakugo answered. Hado shrugged and faced the screen while every once in a while, grabbing some popcorn. “Thank you” she whispered to Bakugo as the movie started
Hado didn’t get to fully enjoy the movie because she was so busy trying to keep her friends’ soundwaves from reaching the other people in the theater. That was incredibly hard to do considering other soundwaves were bouncing around. She did manage to keep Bakugo’s voice and her voice away from everyone in the theater. They shredded that movie, taking cracks at all of the cheesy lines and terribly designed sets.
The credits began to roll and most everyone started to get up and leave. “Hey I’ve got some paperwork I forgot to finish up” Midoriya spoke up shooting out of his seat. “Let me know if we can do this again sometime” he said and shot out of the room before anyone could even blink. “Yeah I have some work still left for me at my agency. Ochako, would you mind helping out?” Tsu said as the two left the theater. Slowly each of the other heroes managed to find something they had to go do and left Hado and Bakugo alone in the theater. “Don’t tell me you have something else you have to do too” Hado sighed, sounding upset. “I already finished up all of my hero work unlike those losers” Bakugo replied. Hado smiled. “Hey what do you like to do for fun that doesn’t deal with hero work?” She asked curious. She had only ever seen Bakugo do hero work and everything that’s related to hero work.
“I’ll show you. Keep up nerd”
The two of them ended up at batting cages near the outskirts of the shopping district. They were nice batting cages too. Each booth was given a ton of room both to move and for the ball to fly through. “These batting cages were made specifically with quirks in mind” Bakugo explained slipping on a pair of gloves to help with the grip on the bat. “This is where I go on days when it’s raining and the training ground gets soaked” He continued. Hado looked at him very intensely, watching his every move. She watched him get ready for the machine to throw the pitches. He had set the frequency at which the machine shoots the ball higher than normal. Balls started flying out about every second and Bakugo was able to cool hit every single one of them. He wasn’t just strong, he was quick and strong, able to pull back fast enough again to put even more power in each new swing. How could someone make baseball look so goddamn cool.
“I know I’m awesome, but you can pick your jaw up off the floor you nerd” Bakugo’s voice brought her out of her thoughts. Hado shook her head. He started to put up the gloves and bat. “Are you done already?” Hado asked. He had only spent about 5 minutes hitting the baseballs back across the way. “No, I’m not done dumbass. A bat has its limitations” Bakugo replies. Hado put two and two together. “You’re going to use your quirk to propel it” Hado stated. Bakugo didn’t even reply. He just rolled his shoulders and focused. The balls came flying out at an even higher rate but each one was met by a very precisely placed explosion. It was incredible to watch. Not only did he hit every single ball, but he also sent them flying so fast and so far away.
Hado noticed sweat starting to glisten on Bakugo’s forehead. She couldn’t speak because she was so impressed by the display of prowess. These are skills she knew he had but it was different seeing those skills being used on something else. When they sparred, she never really had time to think about how much accuracy he had in his movements. She was always kept on her toes making sure she didn’t get hit. “If you don’t stop staring, I’ll start to think you have a crush on me” Bakugo said uncharacteristically. She turned away and blushed a light shade of pink. Something about it made her feel uneasy. “Is he making fun of me? I know I’m not up to his standards, but does he really have to tease me about that” Hado grappled with her inner monologue.
Bakugo must have notice something was wrong because he looked at Hado confused. “You look like you’re gonna’ vomit. You need to go home?” He asked. Hado didn’t like the feelings she was grappling with, but she also still wanted to spend more time with Bakugo. It was selfish of her, but when was the last time she got to enjoy herself so much? Hado shook off the awful feeling of nausea in her stomach. “No no I’m fine!” She told Bakugo. “Hey since you used your quirk on the ball, can I give it a try?” She changed the subject. “Yeah go ahead but you’re not going to break my record or anything” He teased.
Hado lowered the timing of how often the balls were thrown. She had to concentrate really hard. She had to figure out how strong to make the soundwaves to at least make the ball have backwards motion, then she had to figure out how powerful she could make the soundwaves to see how far and fast she could repel the balls. The first ball shot out. She calculated where it was headed and amplified a test soundwave. She made the ball stop in midair and drop to the ground. “Alright now I know the minimum output I need to send the ball backwards”. The next ball came flying out and this time her soundwave pushed the ball backwards, but it didn’t fly very far or very fast. The 3rd ball flew farther, faster. Each time the ball went a little bit farther and a little bit faster. By the last one, she had been shooting them back as far and as fast as Bakugo had with the bat. She felt slightly accomplished because Bakugo’s hits with the bat were still way over what a normal human could do.
“Not bad. You’ve still got some got some work to do but you’ve shown a lot of improvement over a short amount of time” Bakugo praised. It made Hado feel warm and happy. The compliment made her want to work even harder just to hear Bakugo say something nice about her again. Then she had a thought. There was something she could do that he most likely couldn’t.
“Hey if we’re done here, I have another place I’d like to go. You got to show off here so it’s my turn to show you what I can really do”
“Oh?” Bakugo said, raising one eyebrow. He had no idea where they were going to go, but he’d be lying to himself if he said he wasn’t a least a little bit excited to see what Hado meant.
The two of them ended up at a bar that did Karaoke every night of the week. He sighed heavily. Of course, it was singing. She’s a goddamn sound hero. Singing wasn’t quite his speed, but he would go along with it because…. well because it was Hado. She seemed so excited too. Seeing her smile made him feel like nothing else mattered in the world, as long as he could see that smile. They took a seat at the bar and Hado immediately asked for a shot of whiskey. “Eh? What are you doing dumbass?” Bakugo asked. “Taking one shot gives me just a little more courage to sing sincerely” She said giving him a wink. That was surprising. She normally isn’t this bold. Was she flirting with him? Bakugo was kind of confused. “Did you want anything? I’m paying” She offered. “I’m not much of a drinker” Bakugo replied and asked for a glass of water. She shrugged and walked off to check out the songs on the Karaoke machine. She seemed to find a song she liked and grabbed the microphone ready to sing on the stage.
Things were pretty slow in the bar so it almost felt like a little private performance for him. He threw that thought out into the garbage. He didn’t deserve things like that. He stared intently at Hado as she started to sing. She surprisingly picked an alternative rock song. Bakugo took her for more a pop girl.
“Please don’t mind what I’m trying to say ‘cause I,
I’m being honest when I tell you that you,
You’re part of the reasons I’m set on the rest of my life
Being a part of you
And tell me what you think about
Being open
About being honest with yourself
‘Cause things will never be the sa-aame”
Her voice rang out beautifully. Her eyes were lighting up. She was looking straight at Bakugo with those bright happy eyes. It was so…. Enchanting. Bakugo wondered if maybe she had two quirks considering she had told him that her mother sang like an angel. Hado looked like she was having so much fun even though there were maybe a total of 3 people watching her. It felt like she was only singing for Bakugo. He felt his face heat up ever so slightly, thinking about the words of the song. Surely, they didn’t mean anything. It might have just been one of her favorite songs.
She finished the song but asked the owner if she could keep going considering how slow business was. The owner smiled happily and encouraged her to keep going. He’s probably heard all types of voices, most of them being drunk and not well tuned. Bakugo bet that Hado’s voice was like a breath of fresh air for this guy. And he would have to agree.
She picked a slow song this time with a slightly country twang. Bakugo wasn’t the biggest fan of country but he would give it a try because…. Well, again it was Hado singing it.
“Dear God the only thing I ask of you is
To hold her when I'm not around
When I'm much too far away
We all need that person who can be true to you
But I left her when I found her
And now I wish I'd stayed
'Cause I'm lonely and I'm tired
I'm missing you again oh no
Once again”
The slight tinge of sadness struck a chord in Bakugo. She honestly looked like she was going to cry. He felt the emotions of the song through her voice and her expression. Then something even more amazing happened. Another voice layered on top of hers to create a harmony. She was using her quirk to create her own harmonies. Knowing what Bakugo knew about her quirk, that would take a lot of concentration and control to do something like that. She had already thrown back 3 shots so some of her concentration had to be off.
As Bakugo was stuck in his thoughts, people started to trickle in from outside. They seemed to hear Hado singing and were drawn in. Hado finished up her song and looked around nervously. The owner encouraged her to sing one more song because no one else had signed up yet. Bakugo figured they would probably want to throw back a few drinks before getting up there to sing. It was called liquid courage for a reason.
Hado picked one more song to sing for the now growing crowd. As she began her song Bakugo overheard the conversation between two guys near him. “Oh man her voice is awesome. And she’s pretty cute too. Think she’s taken?”. Something inside of Bakugo threatened to snap. The conversation made his blood boil. “Fucking jerks” he said under his breath. Hado finished up her song and was about to walk off the stage to give someone else a chance. The two men Bakugo heard earlier were talking again. “Oh, dude there she goes. I’m going to see if I can get her number” one guy said and gave his drink to his buddy.
Hado quickly made her way to Bakugo who was grinding his teeth to keep himself from physically hurting the man who spoke earlier. Before she could make it all the way back to her seat, the man who wanted her number tapped her on the shoulder. Bakugo felt like he was going to explode. “Hey, you have an incredible singing voice” The guy complimented her. “Oh thanks… I get it from my mom” She shyly replied. Bakugo could tell she was uncomfortable. He arms were folded in front of her and her eyes were focused on the floor. “Well your mom has one hell of a daughter. Would you mind if I-” the man stopped mid-sentence seeing Bakugo walk up behind Hado and put his arm around her waist. “Mind if you what” Bakugo growled. “Oh uh… um… nothing nevermind. Just wanted to say you were great… um have a good night” he said nervously as he quickly shuffled his way back over to his friend. Hado sighed, relieved. She looked up to Bakugo. She then looked down at his hand still around her waist. Bakugo noticed her staring at his hand and he suddenly let go feeling….self-concious?
“Hey, thank you for that. I have trouble politely telling people to fuck off. Not sure why” Hado admitted. Bakugo had a small thought form in the back of his mind. “What if she’s just hanging out with me because she doesn’t know how to tell me to fuck off?”.
“Hey earth to Bakugo. Let’s get out of here. There’s too many people” Hado said. Bakugo snapped back to reality and walked out of the bar with her, giving those men one last hard glare.
“Was there anything else you wanted to do tonight?” Hado asked sweetly. Bakugo just shrugged his shoulders. “Maybe it’s time for us to just head home” He suggested bitterly. He looked back at Hado and she looked so upset. A pang of guilt hit him right in the chest. Did she still really want to spend more time with someone like him?
“I…. I was really enjoying out time together. We’ve never hung out outside of hero work or training. I haven’t had this much fun with anyone else ever” She bravely admitted. Any doubt he had before quickly left his mind after her confession. “Well…. It’s still getting late. If you want…. I could let you crash at my place” he quietly offered. Hado’s face lit up. There was that smile again, and it felt like all was right with the world again.
The two made it back to Bakugo’s place. He unlocked the door and let her in. It’s a pretty normal looking place. He did have a wall where he hung up articles of him being praised as a pro hero. They sat down on the couch in the front room and talked for hours. They talked to each other about villain busts, and old high school stories. They talked about each other’s goals and dreams. They learned about their favorite colors and music and weather. Bakugo looked at the clock on the wall. “It’s getting pretty late. We should probably rest up. You can sleep in my bed and I’ll take the couch” Bakugo offered. Thinking about Hado sleeping in his bed made him embarrassed but he wasn’t sure why.
“Oh no I can sleep on the couch. I think I’d feel just a little weird sleeping in your bed. No offense to you! Your wonderful and I like being around you and stuff. I just think I’d be more comfortable on the couch” Hado admitted. A small part of Bakugo felt rejected, but he pushed that feeling aside and shrugged. He stood up and started to walk off to his bedroom. “Just let me know if you need anything” he said not looking back. “Oh, hey just one thing!” Hado called. He turned around and she planted a kiss directly on his cheek. His face got hot and his heart thumped hard in his chest. He wasn’t moving, just standing completely still in the middle of the room.
“Oh god did I break you? I’m sorry. Maybe I shouldn’t have-” Hado was cut off mid-sentence. Bakugo had quickly grabbed her to pull her close and put his lips on hers. His heart thumped even more loudly in his chest. Every ounce of passion he had been feeling was poured into that kiss. He broke the kiss first and looked at Hado’s blushing face. He smirked realizing that he had caused her to blush like this. She wasn’t moving. “Hey earth to sound girl” Bakugo mocked. She let out a small giggle.
“There’s more where that came from, so you better be careful” Bakugo managed to both tease and threaten. He walked back off to his bedroom. Hado couldn’t believe what just happened, but it was incredible, and she felt like she was on cloud nine. She tucked herself in for the night on the couch. She wondered about what tomorrow would hold.

“Have you any idea why a raven is like a writing desk?” where the only words etched into Harry's wrist that Harry had not chosen to be there; the words your soulmate and true love would say to you where written on every prince, princess, king, queen, villian and villians child somewhere on their body. The thought that Harry even had a soulmate baffled the pirate every day, who could love a thief, pirate, criminal, betrayer and every other word you could think of, the sentence plagued Harry like a shadow over his shoulders with every minute he didn't have his soulmate with him, it felt empty but he didn't know why. Evie snapped her fingers in front of Harry's face to get his attention again.
“Harry! Hook!” Evie exclaimed, each words pronounced with a clap of her hands, Harry finally looked at the girl in front of him with wide eyes, “oh good, you're back” the girl said with a tight smile. Harry cleared his throat.
“Well lass, me thinks it’d be a good moment to take a breather dontcha say?” Harry said with a grin, hoping it would charm the blue haired girl, she only smiled tightly before moving to the front of the class. That was a no, Harry sighed as he wrapped his arms around his head on the desk.
“You get into a sword fight,” Evie started, Harry's head popped up quickly at the mention of a sword fight, “do you A, give up, B, try to work out the problem like civil people, or C, kill the person you are fighting.” Evie asked, Harry knew what answer the girl wanted.
“How about D?” Harry said rhetorically with a grin, “where you gut them with your hook and feed their insides to the crocodile!” Harry said a little too enthusiastically even for himself, Evie let out a soft sigh.
“Come on Har, what's got you like this?” Evie asked, the girl put down the pointer stick she had and walked over to Harry, pulling up a chair the girl sat in front of the desk as Harry put his head in his hands.
“Got me like what?” Harry mumbled into his hand, covering most of his words.
“You’re dissociating, you aren't paying attention, daydreaming.” the girl paused, “is...is it your soulmate?” Evie asked softly, the topic of soulmate was dangerous on the isle and for the isle kids even as most of them never believed they were ever going to find their soulmate or ‘true love’. Harry took a moment to consider his options before nodding softly.
“I just…” the pirate paused as he didnt know how to tell his feelings, “it’s so vague and I never know if ill ever be able to find ‘em,” Harry looked to Evie, “don't get me wrong i don't care who they are, daughter of Peter Pan or son of Pocahontas ,” Harry shrugged, Evie didn't want to seem fazed at Harry's swift coming out about dating a boy, she should have been used to it or at least known. Gil and Harry where always close, the same as Carlos and Jay, they had always been vocal that they would get together if they ended up falling for each other or the other was their soulmate and yadda yadda but Carlos found Jane, his soulmate as Jay was still searching but the pair is never one to shy away from a little bromance or male affection.
“May i ask what it says?” Evie said aloud, she saw Harry took a moment, almost taken aback by the fact that she wanted to see but nodded none-the-less as he gripped his right hand sleeve and pulled it off, his hook had been discarded to his left as he did this, trusting Evie not to go for it. Harry sighed softly as he saw the ink on his skin, it was a soft sigh that didn't go unnoticed by Evie, a sigh of content, almost like he couldn't wait for the day he found the one for him.
“I always wonder what it means to them,” Harry wondered out loud, Evie didn't stop him as she didnt want to ruin the perfect moment, “is it a motto? Something they live by? A lyric? Song? Title?” Harry sighed as he drifted his thumb over the words before he reeled his head from the place it was, tugging the sleeve back on as Evie quickly stood back up with a smile.
“Get this right and I'll let you out five minutes early,” the girl said as she turned back to the blackboard, Harry let out a bored sigh as he looked to Evie with a ‘you really want me to answer this?’ look, Evie grinned wider knowing exactly what was going through Harry's head. The pirate groaned.
“Fine! B! There, happy, can I leave now?” the pirate asked as he grabbed his hook and pointed to the door, Evie sighed softly but nodded.
“Go on, enjoy the woods and have a stroll Harry, clear your mind of seagulls” the girl called out to the retreating pirate.
“Only thing on my mind little lady is the one on my wrist!” the pirate called back before exiting the room and making his way to the enchanted forest; maybe a leisurely stroll won't be too bad to clear one's head, a berry bush along the way to keep up his needs and he’s set.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few people tried to stop Harry along his way simply to ask for him to sign their petition or to ask for an interview they needed for a class but Harry declined (surprising himself and the other as he declined with a ‘no thank you darling, maybe later’, before quickly realising and walking away). Harry sighed softly as he felt a wave of relief and calmness over take his body as he entered the enchanted forest, the forest always had a spell cast upon it that it would help anyone who entered it any bit it could, in Harry's case it was to just be calm and not worry so much. The leaves on the trees blew in the wind as the birds got carried through the sky, the leaves and sticks crunched under Harry's feet as he walked, his hook glittering when it hit the rays of sun poking through the leaves, a soft humming came from Harry, “as the world falls downnnnn” the pirate sung softly, “Are you, are you coming to the tree, where they strung up a man they say murdered three. Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be, if we met at midnight, in the hanging tree.” Harry sang his lullaby softly before continuing his humming of the song, that was until a soft tune caught the pirates ears, a high tune that was upbeat and lively, one that wanted the pirate to dance. A smile made its way to Harry's face as he walked closer to the music, a small blue gate stood in the way between Harry and the place he desperately wanted to be, the pirate unlatched the gate and stepped in as the dirt twisted beneath his shoes, lively music was something that always got Harry going. A long table faced Harry as he was at the end with no one around besides the voices he heard on the opposing end, a lovely voice filled with hope and cheeriness, it enchanted Harry as the pirate stepped forward.
“Would you like some more tea my dear?” a voice asked, a grin evident in the sound.
“Of course by dear but only half!” another voice answered followed by loud cackling, the air was soon filled with breaking china and a clinking of sorts, Harry cocked an eyebrow as he finally got close enough to see everyone occupying the table. A boy sat in the biggest chair at the head of the table, his hat reminded Harry of the Mad Hatter it looked almost identical, the boys coat had a large collar with one side sticking up to the brim of his hat while the other was laid down, his hands were encased in white lace gloves while a sewing pillow laid across the back of his hand, held on by a strap. The boys eyes had a brilliant blue to them that Harry could see from his place as his red painted lips and crazy eye makeup didn't do enough to accentuate his features, but from far away Harry couldn't tell all that much, around the boy was broken china, spoons, teapots, saucers, cups and all different types of cakes and desserts scattered on the table, ground and the boys own clothing and hat including his disheveled hair that poked out from under his hat. Next to the boy stood a small girl on a chair holding a sword, in front of her was another girl with a crazed look in her eyes, tattered clothing and large bunny ears plastered onto a headband. This crazy bunch intrigued Harry to no end.
“Darlings!” the girl with the sword yelled out, “we have company!” every pair of eyes turned to Harry as the boy paled for a moment before a grin overcame his features.
“Couldn't help meself love, heard such a beautiful sound and couldn't resist” Harry said as he bowed down, “‘arry Hook, at your service” the pirate grinned as he looked up, but his grin soon faltered as the group in front of him burst out laughing.
“ELLO GOV!” the girl with bunny ears yelled at as she stood on top of her chair and did a silly pose, “WELCEME TO OUR UN’BIRFDAY” she yelled in a weird accent.
“Unbirthday?” Harry asked softly as he took a seat next to the girl with ears.
“An Unbirthday is whenever your birthday, ISNT!” the girl cackled next to Harry.
“Ye a pirate aint ye?” the girl with the sword asked in a fake ‘pirate’ accent as she kept one eye closed and a weird grin on her mouth, Harry grinned as he held up his hook.
“On of the best lass” Harry said with a grin, at this point Harry realised the boy at the head of the table hadn't said anything and was simply sitting with his hands in front of him, fingertips against the opposing hand, looking through the brim of his hat gave Harry a demeaning look.
“Ain't ye meant ta be in scool?” the bunny eared girl continued the accent as she cackled, the girl with the sword threw a cup to the bunny girl who quickly dodged the china before cackling again.
“Could ask ye the same question” Harry mumbled as he looked around the table with a cocked eyebrow, the girl with bunny ears cackled softly as she held out a tea cup before pouring the tea from above before grabbing a spoon and dumping as much sugar as she could into the liquid.
“Spoon…” the girl gasped softly as she looked to the spoon in mesmerisation. The one with the sword rolled her eyes before walking across the table to Harry and holding her hand out.
“I’m Molly Mouse! Me mum is Mallymkun Dormouse, Mally for short” the girl said as she shook Harry's hand, the pirate had a soft grin on his face as Molly let go of his hand and the girl with ears turned to him holding out her hand as a teacup dangled from one of her fingers.
“Tussle Earwicket! Daughter of Thackery Earwicket the March ‘air!” the girl exclaimed as Harry took the girls hand cautiously before she ripped it away two seconds into the shake to throw the teacup to the boy at the head of the table who simply caught it with his hand, still in his position Harry saw him in; staring past the brim of his hat, this silenced the table as both girls seemed to almost cower into their seats and their eyes drifted anywhere but the boy.
“And ‘o may you be my dear?” Harry asked moving forward on his elbows with a grin as he chin rest on his knuckles. The hatted boy twirled the china around his finger before throwing it back to Tussle who dodged it yet again before cackling loudly, so loudly and full heartedly she fell off the back of her seat, this had not seemed to faze anyone as Molly went back to sipping her tea, however the boy caught Harry off guard. Standing on his chair the hatted boy stood on top of the wobbling table and walked to Harry's direction, kicking plates, cakes, tea sets, pots, spoons and anything else in his way as he finally stood still in front of Harry, the pirate was about to look up to the boy but before he could the hatted boy swooped down and leant on the balls of his feet, knees bent. His head was bent down and only his mouth could be seen, a dark demeanor seemed to cloud the table as Tussle slowly brought herself back to the table.
“Have you any idea why a raven is like a writing desk?" the boy whispered softly, Harry's eyes widened as his breathing quickened and his throat closed in on itself all at the same time, the pirate was at a loss for words for a moment before getting pulled back into reality.
“Now why would someone like you, be asking someone like me why a raven is like a writing desk?” the pirate whispered softly, he had gotten closer to the boy and was now face to face. The boy wore brilliant eye makeup of blues, whites, yellow, orange and red as white and black mascara and eyeliner accentuated his features even more so then the white paint around his face, the boys red painted lips curled into a smile as he tipped his hat up with a flick of his finger to fully look at Harry.
“Terrence Hightopp, son of Tarrant Hightopp,” the boy paused as he took in all of Harry's face, the sharp jawbone, beautiful eyes, cheekbones and glorious black eyeliner, “also known as the Mad Hatter, the Hatter or just, Hatter” the boy spoke in a soft voice drizzled in caramel, “you, Harry Hook, have a very strange, unexpected and…” the boy paused as his smirk almost grew bigger as his eyes drifted over what felt like every inch of Harry's face and body, “mad” the boys eyebrows lifted as his eyes widened, “life ahead of you,” Terrence paused for a moment again, “since you are my soulmate” the boy whispered, Harry grinned as his eyes sparkled with mischief. Terrence grinned as he stood up to his full height, holding one hand on his shoulder as the other stretched out in front of him, he was about to declare something before a raspy voice cut through the air, it was at this moment Harry realised that the air had changed, the sky looked a little dimmer and Terrence had orange hair peeking out from under his hat.
“Down With the Bloody Big Head” the voice rasped softly, Terrence changed in that one fleeting moment as a body appeared at the opposite end of the table the hatter boy had previously sat at. Another beautiful boy with soft blue hair, large blue cat-slit eyes, black stripes, ears and a tail, his clothing seemed almost royal thought it had its rips and tears, the clothing seemed almost tiger like besides the blue and black accents. The new boy was looking at his nails in a poised femimine way, “I wouldn't suggest i ever got an invite now would i?” the new boy said softly, though he was a little ways away his voice came out as if he were in Harry's lap.
“We would suggest no invite, as you had just invited yourself” Terrence said raspily, as Harry looked up to Terrence the pirate realised his makeup had darkened to almost completely black and his eyes turned a bright vibrant orange, deranged.
“I always invite myself, you used to be the life of the party Hatter” the new boy grinned wickedly, he seemed to know the buttons he was pushing on Terrence, that was until the new boy seemed to finally realise it wasn't just the four of them and instead was five, “my my my Terrence, keeping a jewel like this to yourself; how selfish” the boy said before disappearing for a moment, a soft laughter floated through the air as Molly, Terrence and Tussle looked around hoping to spot the cat-like boy, that was before the boy appeared on Harry's lap, straddling the pirate to which his hands flew into the air and was almost terrified to touch the new boy, “‘ello lovely” the boy said softly as a finger made its way down Harry's jaw, a growl came from Terrence.
“You get your grimmy cat hands off my Harry, you guddler's scuttish pilgar-lickering, shukm-juggling sluking urpal. Bar lom muck egg brimni-!” Terrence started.
“HATTER!” Molly yelled, Harry quickly looked to the smaller girl who was standing on the table, from the distance she was at (which wasn't much compared to Terrence) she was only up to the hatters waist. Terrence turned to Molly as his eyes and makeup changed back to their original colours.
“Thank you” the hatter said in a strained voice, the cat-boy chuckled softly as he made his way off of Harry.
“You know im only ever teasing you Hightopp” the cat-boy said as he made his way to Terrences chair, he pointed a finger as an asking of ‘can I sit?’ to which Hatter nodded.
“Not this time Cess, our new guest here is son of Captain Hook from Neverland and is my soulmate, this is one you don't mess with” Terrence said, the hatter jumped down from the table and stood next to Harry, the pirate took this time to stand up, soon releasing his new boyfriend towered over him just the tiniest bit. ‘Chess’, or cat-boy Harry now dubbed the new boy nodded solemnly in understanding.
“Understood Terrence” Chess said before his eyes slid to Terrence’s hat, “you do know how much i love your hat” the cat-boy grinned with wicked sharp teeth.
“Not even if the Jabberwock killed me and my hat was the only thing that is left of me” Terrence said with a mad grin, Chess sighed softly before nodded.
“Yeah yeah” the cat-boy said sadly as he slumped in the chair, Molly and Tussle then began throwing more china at each other as Chess soon joined in; Terrence bent down ever so slightly to Harry's ear.
“Let's leave them as we get to know each other, hmm?” Terrence asked, Harry turned to the Hatter.
“Tell me about the hat” Harry said quickly, “then we walk” the pirate grinned as he knew the smile charmed the hatter.
“Fathers, family heirloom. Chess’ dad loved it and then the obsession got passed down to his kid” Terrence said with a shrug, “now let's go, the moon is out” Terrence pointed out. Harry looked to the sky and there in the middle was the biggest moon he ever saw.
“But...it was only midday when I left Auradon” Harry said as he and Terrence started walking, the hatter grinned and chuckled.
“You’re in Underland now darling,” Hatter said as he walked backwards with his arms over Harry's shoulders, Harry seemed a little scared at Terraces words but the hatter soon backtracked, “Hook, im kidding,” the Hatter said with a grin, “we get out of the forest and it'll only be like one, it a little part of Underland we have to ourselves without leaving the country” Terrence said, Harry nodded as he maneuvered the Hatter boy to his side, Terrence putting his arm over Harry's shoulder as Harry had his arm around the Hatters waist.
“I never thought I'd find my soulmate” Harry said absentmindedly, the stroll had only just started but he felt as if he knew Terrence his whole life.
“Neither did i,” Terrence said softly, “my father always loved soulmates and was thrilled when he found my mother, I was thrilled when I first read the words on my hip but I always thought I was too mad to be loved, i was a simple hat makers kid,” Terrence shrugged, “i didnt realise my dad was really famous until i was like ten, but I still believed I was too mad of a person to be loved” Terrence sighed softly as Harry turned the boy around and held the Hatters shoulders.
“Love you are amazing, i only just met you but i want to spend the rest of my life with you; im a lowlife criminal, thief, swordfighter, barfighter and chippe shoppe waiter. You are my soulmate and I am yours, i want to get to know you and I want to fall in love with you every day of my life and wake up to find your face next to mine in the same bed, holding you softly and making sure you’re okay” Harry took a breath as he looked into Hatters eyes with full generosity and honesty.
“Go on a date with me” Terrence said with a grin, “anywhere”
“I would be delighted darling” Harry said with a grin before bowing, his hooked hand was high in the air as Terrence curtsied with his coat, both grinning widely at the maddening future ahead of them.

Argument with BTS before going on tour (Maknae Line)
Jimin
Tumblr media
“You should be alive!” You sang the lyrics to Promise, all types of wrong while you helped Jimin pack his things. You did a little shimmy moving to the side while folding a shirt. It’s been about two hours of you washing clothes and packing them away for him, what could be wrong?
The fact that he wasn’t there helping you pack his shit!
You heard the door open and close but didn’t bother to go look. The only person who should be getting into your shared unit was Jimin himself.
You were too busy paying attention to what you were doing you jumped when your name was shouted out by his booming voice.
Just as if it was on cue, he stormed into the room and threw a shirt at you. This look of disgust written all over his face. And you honestly didn’t know why.
“What happened?” You asked him looking at the shirt before your mouth went wide. The shirt looked like it could fit a new born baby. And it just happened to be the shirt one of the guys got him for his birthday.
“Very expensive, but very cheaply made…” You mumbled before looking over at him. “I’m so-”
“Oh save that shit for yourself!” He yelled walking over and snatching the shirt out of your hands. “You honestly had one fucking job and you can’t even do this right! I have to go on tour and this is what you do? You ruin something that means a lot to me!”
“It’s just a shirt babe… You can replace it!” You said defensively.
“‘Yeah, I can replace you too!” He snapped giving you a look you’ve never seen since being with him for the last few years.
You couldn’t help but feel small by the way he was acting toward. You reached for the shirt and he snatched it away from your grasp.
“Let me see if I can fix it…” You said trying to grab it once more. Though how he was treating you hurt, you were trying to not let it bring you down. He left tomorrow for tour and you wanted to just be near him as long as possible.
“I don’t want your help anymore.” He spat walking past you and bumping your arm pretty hard in the process. “Why don’t you do yourself a favor and just leave? You’re useless and just a waste of space.”
You slightly gasped at his words. It hurt to hear him talk to you like that when all you were trying to do was help. Your hurt quickly turned into anger.
“You know what you prick!” You shouted grabbing his arm so that he could look right at you.” Unlike you, I’ve been here going at this packing crap since I got off of work at 3 pm. Something I also did so that I could get here and help you pack!”
His look went from anger to guilt as the realization hit. “Y/n I-”
“Like honestly, Jimin. I’ve been slaving over this stupid suitcase trying to make sure everything you needed was in there like I’m your motherfucking mom! And what did you do? Nothing! You were out with friends and I allowed you to go because I thought it would be great to see them before leaving. You come back and be an ungrateful dick!” You grabbed the suitcase and started throwing the clean clothes on the floor.
“Pack your own shit, Bitch” You said then left the room leaving Jimin there feeling a bunch of different ways.
Taehyung
Tumblr media
Tae and you sat in the airport while you waited for his flight. From the outside looking in, you just looked like one of the staff, but everyone else knew you were Tae’s girlfriend. And though you knew the reason why it was being kept quiet, you really just wanted to hug and kiss on your boyfriend for the final time until the tour was over.
You grabbed his hand lacing your fingers together. “Tae, love, are you excited about the tour?” You asked him but he ignores you, pulling his hand away from your own. Instead he waves and smiles at the fans that stood a few yards away.
You rolled your eyes then made him look at you. “You think they would let us go somewhere to talk and be actually comfortable?” You wondered.
“I feel fine. “He said shortly then looked back at the fans and started smiling again. You stood up and moved in front of him.
“Tae I really want to spend a little more time with you before you leave.” You pointed out but he only scoffed.
“I’m spending time with the fans who made me who I am today. Why don’t you just sit down and be quiet like the good little girlfriend I know you can be, okay?”
You looked at him shocked on how he was talking to you. Before you could stop yourself you raised your hand and slapped him.
The sound seemed to echo the whole airport as Tae stood up looking down at you in shock. He grabbed you arm and pulled you away from everyone just as the guards were approaching.
He led you to an empty hallway and pushes you against the wall looking you in the eyes as if you were crazy. Or maybe he being the crazy one.
“How dare you slap me?” He yelled which only echoed the whole hallway. You looked at him, pretty shocked yourself that you allowed yourself to even get that far.
You raised your hand to touch him but he slapped you had away.
“You really think I want you touching me after you did that?” He snapped and all you could do was shake your head. “You know how embarrassing that is? How the fans are going to destroy you just because you are being fucking reckless!” This time he screamed and his voice only made you jump.“Why don’t you do me the biggest favor and go home?”
You looked at him then shrugged. “ Fine, I’ll leave” You snapped back then started walking away.
“Wait, Y/n I didn’t mean it please ju-”
“Just be a good little girlfriend and stay quiet? Sure, your majesty” You bowed before flipping him off then walking away from him. You went and grabbed you purse before quickly heading for the exit, not looking back at Taehyung called for you.
Jungkook
Tumblr media
“Y/n!” Jungkook screamed at the top of his lungs. Probably not the best thing to do since he is about to start tour, but his choice! You stood there hand over mouth at the mistake you just made aka broke his gaming system.
He stood looking at you, anger written all over his face which made you step back slightly.
“Kookie, it was an accident…” You said, voice fragile scared that if any higher or stronger he would go off. You were completely wrong.
“Bullshit!” He yelled throwing the remote to the couch. “ You always nag and complain about me never paying attention to you and always being on the game. You knew damn well what you were doing!”
“I honestly didn’t!” You said trying to defend yourself. The look he gave you was one that could scare birds away. The guy standing in front of you, unrecognizable.
“You really just like pushing my buttons, huh?” Kook asked stepping closer. “Why don’t you just stay in the kitchen where you belong or even in the laundry room. Just stay away from where my shit is, understood?”
“Your shit?” You questioned before you began to laugh, the once soft tone now gone and turned into a stern one. “ Last time I checked, asshole,I bought that fucking thing for you! The TV is mine because I had it at my apartment. If you want to claim somthing, claim your fucking dick and your damn laptop, but last time I checked, most of this shit is mine!”
You stood tall and confident while looking at him. He looked at you, burning a hole in your head with his glare. You have the same looked before grabbing the system and heading for the trash. It was broken anyways so why leave it.
Jungkook tried to grab it from you but you wouldn’t let it go.
“Stop being childish!” He exclaimed which only made you turn and look at im.
“Childish?” You asked then nodded.”I’ll show you childish.”
You walked to the balcony and opened up the door. Without a second thought you threw the system out the window then grabbed the remotes and did the same.
Jungkook stood there just watching. H could’ve got the data off of it somehow, but now? It was destroyed. He looked at you actually hurt by what you did, both of you with high emotions.
“I’ll go stay with they Hyungs.” He mumbled not really knowing what else to do.
“Bye!” Was all you said before heading to your shared bedroom and slamming the door shut, locking it right after. Your back found the door and you began to cry. Here it goes for a great night.
Good thing his stuff was already packed and by the door to leave early in the morning. He wasn’t getting in that room anytime soon.

Midnight Mask
Hero!Male! Monster x Reader
Tumblr media
-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
It started two years ago in the late fall when news reports began to come out about something odd happening. Apparently there was this man running around at night and stopping crime. Some called him the real life hero, but the thing was, no one ever saw him.
Criminals would just be dropped off infront of police stations wrapped in vines. They would sputter nonsense about a nature bending man attacking them. Crazy, they were called, but it kept happening.
Soon, people were celebrating the comic book hero come to life, while some were scared of this magic wielding stranger. But you really didnt care, as long as he didn't turn into a crazied murder.
Then four months later, the first picture of him in the night arouse. It was this man in a pitch black suit with vines wrapped around him, hidden within a tree. He was laying on the tree with his arms folded behind his head as he stared up. Next was a picture of him looking at the camera with a face of shock. His skin was light brown with dark swirls going up his neck. He had a black mask that shimmer from the flash of camera. It reveal that he didn't have normal eyes, instead they were pitch black. The final pitcture was of him being wrapped in a wave of vines.
Of course the Internet blew up with controversy. People said it was fake and was made with photoshop while other made theories that he was something that escaped from Area 51. You could not click on anything on the internet without seeing something about guy.
It took the mystery man two weeks until he made a public apparence at a 'Midnight Mask' rally, the name the internet gave him. Everyone was shock as he just swiftly walked into the middle of it and stood there. He changed into a black suit with a green tie. With the sunlight on him, you were able to get a better look at him. He appear to be above 7 feet and towered over everyone. He had mocha skin with dark chocolate brown tribal marking on his neck. He had long white hair that was pulled up into a bun with brown sticks holding it together. He had on that signature black mask that had an irodescent blue shimmer to it.
He open his mouth to say something, but closed it. He gave a wave and just walked away. He didn't say any word or express anything. He just left. He just wanted people to acknowledge him.
So now back to present day, it's quite ordinary to see Midnight Mask walking around or hanging inside a tree. He never speaks, he just nods and smile to everyone. People respect his privacy and just let him be.
But the unordinary thing is you waking up in the middle of the night to see Midnight Mask half way through your window. He froze his movement upon seeing you sit up.
"You better have a really good explanation for this," you said gripping the top of your cover. Midnight just stared with his black eyes widening. His suit was sprinkled with snow and you could see him shivering.
He open his mouth, but closed it again. His long white hair was pulled up into a bun with vines holding it together. His ears were turning red along with his cheeks as his eyes drifted down.
He lifted up a hand and pointed to a plant on your desk. The lamp that was usually on above it was turn off, making the plant blend in with the darkness of the room.
"My plant?" You asked with a raised eyebrow as you slide your legs out of your bed. The cold air started snipping at your skin causing you want to crawl back under your covers.
Midnight slowly crawled forward and threw both his legs inside your room causing him to sit on the window sill. He stop moving and stared at you woth those iridescent black eyes. It was like he was waiting on your permission for something.
"Come in," you said reaching on for the light switch. Light flooded the room causing your eyes to water. You blinked as your tired eyes adjusted to the harsh artifical light.
You turn to see Midnight standing akwardly near the window. His arms were crossed across his chest. His black suit was different from the last picture you saw of it. This one was black with the left leg being a dark green. He had a dark green hoodie that pooled around his shoulder.
"So, want to explain why you broke into my room at," you glance at your digital clock," 4 in the morning on a Wednesday?" His face turned redder and he lifted one of his hands to cover his face.
He mumbled something, but you couldn't understand him. You took a step forward and strain your neck to hear.
"… worried about…. plant." Your eybrows furrowed as you tried to make sense of what he just said. You glanced at your tiny plant to see it was bent over. The tips of it was turning to a yellow.
"Oh, I forgot to water it," you said realizing it. This week has been so hetic at work causing you to come home and just sleep most of your night away.
Midnight Mask nodded his head while still gripping his sides. He was still shivering with the snow slowly melting onto his suit. It has been snowing all week with no sign of stopping.
"I'll go get the water can," you said turning around and walking quickly to your kitchen.
It wasn't that far from your room since you live in a condo with an open floor plan. It was one bedroom and one bathroom. Something small for your first apartment.
You grabbed your white water can off the black marble countertop and filled it with water.
Why did Midnight Mask come into your apartment late at night? Why just for a small desk top plant that probably didn't have that long of a life span?
Walking into your room, you noticed that Midnight Mask had moved from the window to your desk. His dark green gloves was lightly touching the one leaf of your plant. He was bent over and you could hear him muttering something under his breath.
"I brought the water can," you whispered silently feeling weird for interrupting his… bonding moment with your plant. Why was he having a bonding moment with your plant?
Midnight Mask jumped at the sound of you voice. He quickly backed away from the plant and stood next to the window.
You gently tipped over the water can, letting small droplets of water fall onto it's leaves. You glanced at Midnight Mask for a hint of how much it may need. He seem to be the plant whisper here.
You saw him flinch and you stopped watering. His body visibly relaxed when you set it down.
"I guess I've done my civilian duty by watering this plant," you said fake saluting. Midnight just gave an awkward smile and a thumb up.
Your hand dropped down as you looked at him. He looked back at you with a confused twinkle in his eyes. Glancing at the open window, you hoped he would get the hint.
He glanced back before let out an almost inausible gasp of relazation. There we go big guy.
He turned around to give you another awkward thumbs up before looking at the window. It was still snowing hard out there and that suit didn't look to provide much heat.
"Wait," you yelled running to your closet. You open it swiftly with your eyes already going towards the top. Sitting on the top self, was an old blanket you used in your youth years. It was quite thick, so it should provide some warmth.
You jumped up and wrapped your hands around the fabric. Yanking it down, the blanket landed safely in your arms, although slightly coming undone.
"Here take this. It might keep you warm," you said walking towards the window. Since the blanket was so big, you had to look around it to see Midnight.
You stopped infront of him before presenting him with the blanket. "Got to make sure our super hero stays warm."
His hands diligently reached for the bottom of it and lifted it into his arms. He was being so careful with it that you could have thought he was handling a new born child.
He pulled it closed to his body as his mouth started opening and closing. He went for an awkward smile before jumping out your window.
Instantly, a bunch of vines shot out and formed a walkway out of your window. He took a few step before turning around to look at you. Deciding to be polite, you gave him a small wave with a smile.
He spun back around and jumped into the air. A vine shot out of nowhere and wrapped around his torso before swinging him out of view.
Now that that is over, your bed is seductively calling you name. And who are you to deny such a pretty thing.
Over the week, you started to see Midnight Mask a lot more. You would be walking to work and would see him inside a tree with a bird on his finger. Or you would go to your favorite cafe and see Midnight Mask across the street talking to a kid. Sometimes, you would look up to see Midnight Mask dangling on the edge of a rooftop.
Wanting to be polite, you always gave him a friendly wave. He almost seem surprise to see you everytime. He changes between giving you a thumbs up and a single wave. He was a bit awkward, but was polite enough to respond to your greeting.
Feeling something drop into your hair, you were pulled out your reverie. Your hand reached up to see what it was. You were expecting something like a leaf or maybe even a bug. But when your fingers brushed against what felt to be something delicate, you know it was something different. Quickly grabbing at it, you bought it down to look at it.
There in your hand was the tiny red flowers. The petals all crinkled out from the green stem. The bottom of the stem was freshly cut. You could still feel the morning dew on it.
Tilting your head up, you tried to find the place where the flower could have dropped. You were close to a library, but it didn't have this type of flowers growing on it's side.
However, on top of the building, you could see a figure peaking over the edge. Using you hand as a shield from the harsh sun rays, you squinted to make out details of the person.
The figure jumped up and scrambled from the edge, almost like they were scared to be seen. Did they drop the flower? Maybe they were working on something on the roof and the wind blew this flower over the edge.
Well, it's doesn't seem like they want it back and it would be a shame to get rid of a beautiful flower.
Quickly tucking it into your shirt pocket , you continue your way to the park. Your job wanted you to take some pictures of nature so they can use as background for their flyers. Why they didn't just simply use something from Google, who know? They claim they wanted the background to feel more familiar.
Entering the park, you were met with a bunch of trees and freshly cut grass. The park was mostly empty due to it being early in the morning and most people were at work or school. You're not complaining at all, this is going to make your job a lot easier.
"Maybe I can get some flower shots," you mumbled lifting your hand to touch the light red carnation. Maybe getting a shot of the flower garden with the trees blowing in the background. And if you could get a bird in the shot. That would really seal the deal.
Walking towards a bench, you pulled out the professional camera that you borrowed from work. The camera was a nice sleek black design with a zoom of 100 feet. Perfect for long distance shots.
Quickly grabbing the sides of the camera, you decided to take some warm up shots. It's been a while since you did scenario shots. Usually, you just had to focus on a person and make sure they look good. If the background look like crap, you could just blur it.
Laying down on the ground, you aimed towards a set of trees planeted vertically. There was flower close to blooming on this lower branch on the front treee.
Pressing the button down, the sound of the shutter echoed through the quiet park. This may actually be a good shot.
You were quick to look at the shots. They all looked okay, but the lighting was off. You couldn't see the budding flowers on the branch.
"Maybe a different angle would help the lighting," you mumbled to yourself. You got up, but left your bag there. You weren't going far. Plus, no one is here, so is it really in danger?
You laid down and started looking at the setting on the the camera. All of a sudden, the screen became hard to see. You looked up to see that a lot more sunlight was slipping through the trees. In fact, the branches seem to have moved to let more sunlight through. Maybe you're just imagining it.
You didn't want to miss this opportunity at all. You snapped some shots of the trees and checked them. Gorgeous. Perfect. These can be used for your job.
And that little miracle moment inspired you to spend the next hour taking pictures. And every single one came out perfect. The lighting was on point. The breeze always came in at the right moment. The flowers seem to be bloomed at the the right time.
You sat on the ground with your legs folded as you flickered through the pictures. Your favorite one was where you used the flower that dropped on you earlier. In a patch of white dandelions, you placed the red carnation in the middle. With the tree slightly blurred and random spotlights from the trees. It looked like some high level professional took it.
You were about to look at another photo when something in a tree caught your eyes. You zoomed in to see that it was a person hiding in the leaves looking at you. And not just any person, it was Midnight Mask.
His white hair was dangling between the leaves, which is what caught your eyes. He had a giant smile on his face as he used his other hand to lift a branch up. How long had he been here?
You put your camera down and glanced around you. You didn't see any signs of Midnight Mask being around, but you were sure he was there.
"If you were the one to help with these photos going so well, thank you," you yelled out into the open. A yelp echoed from the tree to your left causing you to look over.
You were not expecting to see Midnight Mask hanging upside from a tree branch from a vine. The vine was wrapped around his left foot causing his right leg to be flat against his body.
His usual mocha skin was a bright red on his face. His black eyes were open wide causing his mask to scrunch up.
Small giggles escaped from your mouth as you tried to cover it with your hand. You got off the ground and walked over to him. He was dangling just below eye level.
"Well, it seem our superhero is all tangled up," you joked poking his nose. He hands went to cover his nose as he looked anywhere but you. "I guess I can be a good civilian and help."
You bent down and lifted his back. You were expecting to use all your muscles, but he was so light. This over seven feet tall man felt like he barely weighed a pound.
You held his upper body with your left hand and stretched your right out to untangle his foot. But his legs are around four feet and it's impossible to reach his foot.
"Hmm, this is a challenge," you muttered putting your second arm under him to move his body. Maybe if you try to yank him down. The vine doesn't look that strong.
And your analysis was quite correct. As you were in the middle of thinking, a loud snap caused you to look up in time to see the vine become two.
Midnight Mask fell down into your arms. You widen your arms to catch all of him and hoped that he would fit. Closing your eyes, you prepared yourself to fall into the ground.
But he barely even put pressure on your arms. He actaully was so light. You open your eyes confused to see Midnight Mask in your arms with his hands over his face.
"Well, that's one way to get you down," you joked giving him a smile. He splayed his left hand open revealing his completely red face. He was blushing.
"Oh," you sighed out with your smile dropping. "I guess you would be uncomfortable with a civilian carry you bridal style."
This may look bad. You, a normal person in a park, carrying a blushing superhero in your arms like he's a damsel in distress. If anything, it's suppose to be the other way around.
"No… it's fine," he muttered shrinking down. "Sorry…I wanted to help... pictures." He started pulling on his dark green gloves. With his face down, you got a chance to get a look at his face.
Even though he was blushing intensely, his tribal marks still remain a dark brown colour. You were curious if he painted them on or if it was just part of his body.
"Well I thank you for the help. I got a lot of good pictures that I think my boss would appreciate them," you said giving him a smile. He glanced up at you before back down at his gloves.
"The flower looks...nice in hair," he mumbled glancing up at you. You forgot you put the flower in your hair. You just threw it in there.
"Oh thanks," you said giving him a smile. He took a deep breath before looking up at you with a determine look.
"Would you like to…" he drifted off as he looked behind you. He jumped out of your arms causing you to stumble back from his quick movement.
You open your mouth to question him, but he ran off behind you. Spinning you on toes, you looked in time to see a random man running off with a black bag.
You glanced at the spot you left the camera with the bag, but nothing was there. Someone actually stole your camera.
Midnight Mask ran after the person with him gaining distance on them. The ground left to the person started moving, until a dark green vine shot out of the ground. Midnight Mask's hand shot back before pointing forward.
The vine moved like a snake as it jumped at the thief and wrapped around them. They went limp in the vines and started falling forward, but the vines hovered them above the ground.
Midnight Mask snatched the bag out of the person's hand and grabbed the vines holding the culprit and pulled him closer. You couldn't hear what he was saying to them, but the amount of fear on the person's face told you you didn't want to know.
A vine slowly lowered from a nearby tree and Midnight Mask's green gloves wrapped around it. He yanked twice on it before he was swung away with the thief in his arm.
You stood there dumbfound of what just happen. Someone just tried to steal you bag in broad daylight. Then Midnight Mask went all superhero and is now going off with the villain somewhere. And you're just still here. Do you stay here? Because you can't go to work without that camera.
Just as you settled on accepting the wrath of your boss, Midnight Mask dropped to the ground infront of you. You let out a startled cry and jumped away from him.
"Ahh, sorry," he muttered looking down. His right hand came from behind his back to reveal your camera bag with no damage. "Everything here... I check."
You were going to grab the bag, but you wanted to express your gratitude first. You jumped forward and wrapped your arms around him.
"I could thank you a thousand times and it wouldn't be enough," you yelled tighting your arms around him.
"You can…" he drifted of as his speaking became unintelligible. You released your grip on him to see he staring at the ground and twisting the strap of the bag.
"I couldn't hear what you said," you said with an embarrassed smile. You leaned foward to pick up what he was saying.
You kind of came to the conclusion that he must not be use to talking. He's speaking in small phrases or just drifts off in the middle of a sentence.
"Coffee? You and I?" He asked looking up. His eyes were looking down at you with a look of panic.
Coffee? Why would Midnight want the two of you to get coffee? Does he want someone… he just ask you on a date.
You tried to cover your shock expression as you just realize what just happen. You didn't think Midnight Mask dated anyone. Well, he's not unattractive, quite pleasant on the eyes actually. But dating a superhero. That's something that only happens in the movie.
"Coffee. Yes, cofee sounds great," you sputtered out in shock still. You could feel the heat that was traveling up your neck. Now it was your turn to blush.
"Okay. Good. Great," he stuttered taking a step back. "Meet in morning…here."
Nodding your head, you bit your lips to stop that smile from coming onto your face. You got a date with Midnight Mask. You got a date with a superhero.
"Cool "
"Awesome."
"Yeah."
"I got to go…hero…stuff," he mumbled pointing behind him. His brown skin was turning a red colour again. Gosh, he's so adorable.
"And I got work stuff. Meet you here for coffee," you said digging your feet into the ground.
"Okay, bye," he said sticking his hand up. A green vine shot from a tree and wrapped around his wrist. With a quick wave, he was lauched into the sky where he disappeared from your view.
Wow, you got a date with Midnight Mask. And he's not just some mysterious hero, he's a completely adorable shy person.
A light squeal came from you as you happily dance around the park. Gosh, today was great. You got fantastic pictures for your boss. And you got a date with Midnight Mask. You even got to see Midnight Mask be a superhero.
"Um...forgot to give…camera you need,"a voice muttered out behind you. You stop mid dance move to look behind you.
Midnight Mask had a hand over his face, but you could still see the smile peaking out from underneath. Oh gosh, this is embarrassing.
You quickly straight up and pretended to be stretching. Not even three minutes and you already manage to embarrase yourself.
"Oh yeah the camera. Thank you so much," you said quickly walking towards him with your head down. You could feel the embarassment presenting itself on your skin.
As you wrappd your hand around the strap of the bag, Midnight Mask's hand slide up above you. You felt him place something behind your ear.
You looked up to see him looking down at you with the softest look. It was so full of pure emotions that you accidently let out a gasp. No one has ever looked at you as if…as if you made them so happy.
"This flower…looks pretty…too," he mumbed giving you a soft smile. You reached your hand up to touch the petals.
"Dark red carnation…it fits you," he mumbled looking away. A light red blush spreaded up his neck. You felt like it was a greater meaning to it than he let on.
"Thank you," you muttered in awe while gently touching the flower.
In the far distant, the ringing of a bell tower alerted you that it was noon. Your manager wanted those pictures before lunch, which gives you maybe 25 minutes to get back to work
"I got to go do some work stuff. See you here, tomorrow," you yelled while runnning towards the exit. You turned around to give him a final way.
He stood there in the middle of the park with one of his hands gently placed over his heart. And the other one, waving happily at you.
You really are lucky.

This story has been sitting on the back burner for the longest time. I made this story back when Awkward Shade of Green only had 2 chapters. I really think this one is going to be multi-chapter, I want to build on Midnight Mask's character. Anyway, remember to LIKE and to COMMENT what you think about the story. I look forward to reading your comments. Also, if you want to ask my character anything or me anything, my ASKS are open. Have a good day and I hope you find someone as dorky as Midnight Mask.

Marvel Story
Title: I'll betray all of you in the Hunger Games
Summary: Steve read The Hunger Games, then found out there were movies. Peter brings them over and the Avengers spend a Saturday binge watching all four movies.
"So there's a movie that goes along with these books?"
"Yes Steve, for the fifth time, there is a movie, and before you ask, yes they are all out." Tony sighed, placing his head in his hands. "Who let Cap read The Hunger Games?"
"Nat." Clint mumbled, picking up the book and flipping through the pages. "Did you really make notes in the book?"
"All of them." Steve answered snatching the book back. "Do we have the movies?"
"I don't know. Probably. The kid brought a bunch of movies over the other day. Ask him." Tony looked up and sighed again at the giant smile that spread across Steve's face.
Steve then turned from the counter and quickly walked towards the elevators to find Peter. Clint and Tony just laughed. They'd never seen him so excited about watching a movie before.
Steve found Peter in the gym with Wanda and Natasha. The two were teaching him a few basic fighting moves. He watched for a few minutes before approaching the three.
"Hey Cap, what's up?" Peter asked panting on the floor. Natasha had thrown him over her shoulder as Steve approached them. "Here to spar?"
Steve chuckled and helped Peter up. "No, I was wondering if you had the Hunger Game movie series?"
Peter smiled and nodded his head. "Yeah I do! Wanda said you were reading the books, so when I brought the movies over the other day I made sure to bring over all the movies!"
Steve smiled like a kid in a candy shop. "Thank you Peter! That was very thoughtful. I just finished the last book."
"Oh cool, maybe we could movie marathon this weekend then?" Peter looked at the two women who had giant smirks on their faces. They nodded their heads and mumbled their agreements. "Awesome! Think Mr. Stark will let me invite Ned over?"
"I'm sure we can convince him. Now come on, back to your lesson. Goodbye Steve." Natasha shooed Steve and flipped Peter over her shoulder again before he could wave at Steve.
Steve just chuckled and left the gym. He headed back to the living room area to find the movies and set them by the DVD player. He then sent out a group message to everyone to let them know Saturday was movie day.
-Saturday-
"Hey Mr. Stark, thanks for letting me come over for movie day!" Ned said as he settled in his seat next to Peter.
Tony just rolled his eyes and handed the two a bowl of popcorn. "Of course kid. You're Peter's best pal, and we don't leave best pals behind. Even if they're ex-assassins or destroyed New York. Do we Cap? Thor?" Bucky and Loki flipped Tony off while Steve sighed and Thor laughed. "Thought so." Tony smiled and plopped down between Pepper and Bruce.
"You know I saved your ass from a dessert right? Or did you forget that?" Rhodey asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I-"
"Don't start that up again Stark." Thor growled.
Tony closed his mouth and crossed his arms.
Ned looked at Peter for an explanation and Peter just mumbled he'd explain later. The pair jumped when they heard Steve mutter under his breath and looked towards the DVD player. Steve was pressing buttons and muttering under his breath about technology. The pair laughed and Peter picked a remote up and pressed a button to open the DVD player.
"Here Steve. Just put the DVD in and I'll play the movie."
"Thanks Pete." Steve mumbled standing and falling into his seat between Sam and Bucky.
"It's okay Cap, at least you know it runs on some form of electricity." Tony laughed as Steve threw a pillow at him.
"Shut up Stark." Steve laughed.
"All of you shut up, the movie is starting." Natasha hissed from where she was laying on the floor.
The group fell silent as the movie started. About halfway through the movie Clint paused it to make himself popcorn. When he returned he sighed as half the group was missing. Bucky, Loki and Sam went to the restroom. Thor and Steve went to make popcorn and get drinks for everyone else. Peter left to call his Aunt and Ned went with him, not wanting to be left by himself. After about ten minutes everyone had settled back into their spot and they started the movie back up.
Once the first one ended Steve jumped up to put the second in and everyone sighed. He frowned and sat back down and watched Peter open the DVD player with the remote as Clint put the second movie in.
"Before we start the second one, is anyone getting hungry?" Bruce asked, looking around the room.
Everyone nodded.
"We should get lunch!" Peter sighed.
"Pizza?" Bucky asked looking around.
"Yes!" Thor shouted pointing at his friend.
"I'll order it." Tony said pulling his phone out. "I've done it enough, I know what everyone likes by now."
Peter hit play on the movie as Tony ordered the pizza. A half hour later FRIDAY announced that their pizza was there. Peter paused the movie and watched as Steve and Thor got up and disappeared down the hallway. A few minutes later the two emerged both carrying five pizza boxes topped with bags of other stuff.
"Geez Tony, did you order the restaurant?" Bucky asked running a hand through his hair.
"You try feeding two teenagers, two super soldiers, two gods, two still assassins, two scientists, an enhanced being, a Rhodey, whatever the hell Sam is and my wonderful, smart beautiful lady on two pizzas." Tony deadpanned at Bucky.
"Did you just say 'whatever the hell Same is'?" Sam asked as he walked over to set everything up. "Really dude?"
"Yeah, yeah, be happy I added you in at all bird-man." Tony laughed following behind.
"What about Vision?" Thor asked grabbing plates.
"I don't eat." Vision yelled from the couch.
The four men laughed then set the food up. Once it was done they called for the others to come get it. Soon everyone was gathered around the giant counter grabbing plates, pizza, salad, wings, chips making mini sandwiches and getting a drink. Tony always went all out when they all got together. After they all attacked the food they were soon back in front of the TV. Peter hit play and the group munched on their lunch and enjoyed the second movie.
When it ended Steve once again got up but was met with glares and sat back down. Peter and Clint went through their little routine of putting the movie in. Before Peter hit play Steve cleared his throat and everyone looked at him.
"Before we continue, I want to ask everyone something."
"What's up Cap?" Sam asked, shoving a piece of pizza in his mouth.
"Who all has read the book?" Everyone but Bucky, Rhodey, Loki and Sam raised their hand. "Alright, so everyone else knows what's about to happen then?"
"You sound like you're preparing us for a battle Cap." Clint chuckled looking over his shoulder from where he was laying on the floor next to Natasha.
"Well, it's gonna get pretty intense." Steve laughed. "Just wanted to warn anyone who hasn't seen it."
"No spoilers!" Peter and Ned yelled in union. "Number one rule of fandoms Steve."
"Of what?" Bucky asked raising an eyebrow.
"Fandoms. Ya know-"
"Just know that if you read a book or comic or watch a movie or show before anyone else you can't talk about it." Tony explained. "Because if you do you're spoiling it for them, and that's not nice."
Steve's face turned red and he bit his lip and nodded his head while mumbling an apology. Everyone laughed at how red his face turned. Loki and Bucky rolled their eyes and yelled at Peter to just play the movie.
Peter chuckled and hit the play button. Before anyone knew it the movie was over and Clint was quickly putting the last one in. As they waited for it to start everyone was mumbling amongst themselves. Once it started everyone immediately went quiet and turned their attention back to the screen. Tony reached for the remote and paused it, earning annoyed groans from the group.
"Yeah, yeah shush." Tony rolled his eyes. "If anyone wants food, bathroom break, or drinks go now. Once we start we aren't pausing."
Everyone looked at one another then quickly jumped up and ran to either the food or bathroom. Once everyone went to the restroom or got food they settled back down to finish the final movie. Tony looked around to make sure everyone was ready then hit play.
As the movie went on those that read and had already seen the movies knew what to expect, but the few that hadn't seen the movies yet frowned a few times at the changes. The few that neither watched nor read the book watched with wide eyes as the movie played.
As it came to the conclusion Pepper, Thor and Peter were wiping tears from their eyes. Bucky looked over at Sam and laughed.
"Are you crying?"
"What? No." Sam sniffled wiping his nose. "I got something in my eyes.
"Why'd ya wipe your nose then?" Bucky laughed.
"Shut up man!" Sam said punching Bucky.
"Hey, cut it out you two!" Steve laughed pushing his two friends. "It's a sad, yet happy ending Buck."
Bucky rolled his eyes and sighed. The rest of the group started to laugh and discuss the movie with the people around them.
"So Steve, was it how you imagined it?" Peter asked smiling.
Steve rubbed the back of his neck in thought for a moment before replying. "The movies are definitely good, but the book is definitely better."
"Don't read Jurassic Park then watch the movies then." Clint said sitting up to face the group. "Book is nothing like the movie."
"Hey, spoiler!" Steve whined. "I'm in the middle of Jurassic Park!"
Peter and Ned smiled at Steve's use of the word spoiler.
"Does that mean Jurassic Park marathon when you finish the two books?" Ned asked hopeful.
"I mean I wouldn't call that a marathon, aren't there only two books?" Bucky asked.
"Two books, but five movies." Natasha said joining Clint in sitting up.
Bucky and Steve's eyes went wide while the group laughed.
"So hey, I've always kinda wondered this, if the Hunger Games were real and all of you got picked to go, who do you think would win?" Ned asked looking around the room.
The room grew silent as each of the Avengers looked at one another.
"Well, I think that's an unfair question," Pepper said slowly, "I mean two members are literal gods and two are super soldiers."
"Plus two of us are enhanced." Wanda commented. "One being more powerful. No offense Pete."
"Uhh...none taken?" Peter said raising an eyebrow. He didn't really want to start a fight with Wanda.
"I think we'd form a group, like they did in Catching Fire. Work together to take down the Capital." Steve commented, trying to ease the sudden tension.
"I'm with Steve!" Peter said looking around the room. "I mean look at everything we've been through already. In the end we always come together."
"Yeah but that's because it was us against them. In this case it'd be us against each other." Sam said flatly.
"Yeah but…" Peter raised a finger then immediately dropped it not knowing what to say.
"Kids got a point though." Clint said. "A lot of us have been to hell and back together many times. The Capital would just be another hell to go to and come back from."
Many of the team nodded their head and voiced their agreements. Loki, Sam, Bucky, Rhodey, Natasha and Vision looked skeptical.
"May I say something?" Vision asked. Everyone nodded. "You're all talking as if we'd be put into these games in modern times, where we all know one another. However, if we were to be put into these games we'd have to be living in this world, and the likelihood of us knowing each other, and being friends, is very low." Vision explained. "Given the different districts and how few there are of us, even if we all were from the same district, given how many people lived in one place, we'd likely only perhaps bump into one another. However, to be sent to the games all together would be impossible."
The group stared at him for a moment before Loki spoke up.
"Not entirely true."
"Which part?" Bruce asked.
"All of us being in the games together."
"How so Loki?" Vision asked curious.
"The Quarter Quell in the second movie." Loki simply said.
"That would mean each of us is from a different district and won a game at some point." Wanda started.
"It would also help with the age difference, since they picked from the winners." Natasha continued.
"And there are fifteen of us here. So all the boys are covered for the districts, and three of the girls." Pepper finished.
"But that still doesn't mean we'd all like one another." Bucky said flatly. "Especially the two newer ones that year."
"Well some of us would." Steve said patting his friend on the back.
"So some of us would team up to take the Capital down?" Peter asked.
"And Captain America would be our Mockingjay." Tony said smiling as he leaned forward and raised his drink.
Everyone agreed to that and raised their drink. Steve blushed and looked at his feet.
"Well I know one thing for a fact." Natasha said leaning back on her arm and taking a sip from her drink.
"What's that Nat?" Steve asked.
"I’ll betray all of you in the Hunger Games." She said simply.
Everyone looked at her for a moment before laughing. Loki and Bucky shared a look and smiled. Out of the three of them it would probably be her anyway.

Perfect Christmas
X1 Extra Member AU
Summary: X1′s first Christmas together.
A/N: So tumblr deleted this post and idk why, so here it is again.
REQUEST ARE OPEN! Feedback is greatly appreciated.
Tumblr media
Jaein was awoken by a rough shake. Opening her eyes, she saw Eunsang standing by her bed. Jaein reached blindly for her phone and squinted at the harsh light. Through blurry vision she could see that it was 9 in the morning.
“Everyone’s already up. We’re waiting for you,” Eunsang said smiling, pulling on her arm.
Dazed, Jaein slowly got up and swung her legs over to the side of the bed. She ruffled her hair (which was already a bird’s nest) and shook it out. Getting up, she followed the boy.
Stepping foot into the living room, a cup of coffee was held in front of her. She took it thanking Wooseok, who smiled and walked over to join the others around the tree.
Jaein took a look around. Everyone was sitting on the couch or on the floor. They all had matching Christmas pajamas (Seungyoun’s idea). She quickly looked down at her own and smiled.
“Come on, Noona,” Hyeongjun called from his spot on the floor next to Hangyul and Junho. Jaein nodded and walked over to them.
“Morning,” Jaein rasped out (she still had a morning voice), then took a sip of her coffee. Closing her eyes, she savored the taste.
“It’s Christmas!” Dongpyo clapped his hands. Jaein looked at him and smiled.
It indeed was Christmas. It was their first Christmas together. Instrumental holiday music was playing quietly in the background. Everyone was sitting close to each other, drinking either coffee or hot chocolate. There were a few gifts under the tree (they had agreed to keep the gifts small and simple this year). And they were together. It was a perfect Christmas.
Seungwoo was smiling and looking at each of the members, and Jaein could tell that he was thinking the same thing. She smiled too. So far they had celebrated their leader’s birthday last night, had a Christmas Eve movie night and baked cookies, and now it’s Christmas day and they’re celebrating together.
They’ll have the morning for the group then they'll be off to visit families or friends later on in the day. Jaein was going to meet up with some of her old members and then join Seungwoo and his sister for dinner later on. She smiled at the thought.
“Can we open gifts now?” Dohyon asked. He was clapping his hands, bouncing in his seat on the couch next to Minhee.
“Of course,” Seungwoo answered. He sat closest to the tree, so he began to pass out gifts. Each person waited for everyone to get their gifts and they all took turns opening them and waiting to see the reactions to the gift that they gave them.
Dohyon got a box of snacks, which the whole group put together. Seungwoo, Jaein, and Wooseok were still hesitant about giving him his own snack box, but still agreed and actually ended up contributing the most.
Wooseok and Dongpyo got a bunch of face masks and a hairband for face washing (Dongpyo a panda bear and Wooseok a cat).
Seungwoo got a new water bottle and gym bag, seeing as both were “beyond old and need to be put down,” Seungyoun had said.
Everyone pitched in to give Jaein, Hangyul, and Hyeongjun matching hoodies that said “Dance Team”. Hyeongjun also gave Hangyul the hoop earrings that he gotten the other day.
Minhee was given a new set of pajamas and Junho was given a book from one of his favorite authors.
Seungyoun had made a mixtape of all the songs that he thought that Eunsang would like. And for Seungyoun, he got two new hats (a bucket hat and a baseball cap).
For Yohan, they all got him a box set of his favorite drama (he got so excited that he hugged every member).
“There’s still this,” Jaein said, getting up and reaching for the gift bag behind the tree. From the bag, she pulled out all of the flower keychains that she had bought from the street vendor.
“They’re matching,” Yohan observed with a smile.
“Yep,” was all that Jaein said, smiling.
“We should all put them on our bags the next time we all go out together,” Dongpyo stated, running a finger over his orange flower.
“Yeah, I like that idea,” Wooseok smiled, gently placing his purple one down on the coffee table.
“I’m glad you like them. I saw them and I was reminded of ‘Extraordinary You’,” Jaein said, taking another sip from her coffee.
“I thought the same thing when I saw them,” Hangyul said, laughing.
Soon, Wooseok and Jaein went into the kitchen to make breakfast, while the rest stayed in the living room and talked. Once breakfast was ready, everyone grabbed a plate and sat in the living room to watch “A Charlie Brown Christmas”.
After that, Hangyul and Junho went to clean the dishes, and everyone else went to get ready for the day.
Jaein threw on a pair of ripped skinny jeans, a ribbed crop top, and one of Seungwoo’s flannels (the group had come to the realization that if Jaein liked something, she’d “borrow” it). She quickly ran her fingers through her hair, but grabbed a bucket hat just in case.
Walking out of her room, Seungwoo walked in, “Nice shirt.” Jaein smirked and kept on walking.
“Bye, Noona,” Hyeongjun and Hangyul were by the door, ready to leave.
“Bye. She you guys later,” she waved at them, and then they left.
Jaein walked into the kitchen to get a glass of water and found Wooseok doing the same. “Are you visiting Jinhyuk today?”
“Yep, then I’m having dinner with my parents,” Wooseok answered, nodding, “You?”
“I’m hanging with Daehyun and Jongup, then having dinner with Seungwoo and his sister, Sunhwa.”
“That’s nice,” Wooseok said as they walked over to the door to grab their shoes.
“Wanna head out together?” Jaein asked.
“Yeah, we can share a taxi. I’m pretty sure we’re heading in the same direction,” Wooseok bent over to grab his sneakers and handed Jaein her converse. She thanked him.
“Bye everyone!” Jaein shouted to the others in the dorm. Wooseok did the same. A chorus of goodbyes were heard, as Jaein and Wooseok grabbed their coats and left the dorm.

Overprotective
Y/n goes to dinner with Tom and his family, and she realizes she didn’t go alone.
A/n: This was random, but I thought it would be cute. Hope you enjoy.
I went ahead and named the roommate/friend just because it got confusing if I didn’t.
Usually when I write, I try to make it as open and inclusive as possible, but there are a few things that I write according to me and how/who/what I am, so just kinda correct it to your liking:)
Tumblr media
“Just a heads up,” you said as you walked into the living room of your apartment. You had shared an apartment with your brother and his friend, Bryan, for a few years now. “I’m going to dinner with Tom and his family tonight. Don’t wait up.”
“So you’re meeting the family tonight?” Bryan asked.
“Yes, I’m meeting the family tonight,” you clarified.
“So things are getting serious,” y/b/n asked.
“Things have always been serious,” you told them with a shrug. “This is just the first time I’m getting to meet them for more than a minute or a phone call.” You had met the twins before and saw them pretty often. You hadn’t met Tom’s parents or his youngest brother except for one time when you had stopped by their house to return Tom’s wallet he had left on your dresser, but you had to rush out for an appointment you had scheduled.
“Are you going to need backup?” Y/b/n asked completely serious.
“No, I don’t need backup,” you told him while laughing humorlessly.
“I think you need back up,” Bryan chimed in making things worse for you. You threw your head back and put your hands over your eyes.
“Oh, gosh. Please don’t do anything stupid while I’m with his parents,” you whined. You didn’t know what the two boys would do, but you wouldn’t be surprised if they did something. The both of them were notorious for pulling pranks on their friends. They hadn’t ever done anything to you so you thought you were in the clear. “I have to finish getting ready, I’ll see y’all later,” you told them as you walked away. You silently prayed they would forget about you and that you could have a nice evening with everyone.
. . .
You were making your last minute checks to make sure everything was perfect. You had loose waves in your hair falling nicely around your shoulders and your makeup was flawless. You wore your standard black jeans with a white top and long tan cardigan over it. Simple yet cute. You heard a knock at the door. You grabbed your purse and scrambled to answer it before one of the boys did. But as luck would have it, Bryan beat you to it. He opened the door to reveal Tom.
“Hey,” You said as you made your way to step out the door.
“Not so fast,” Bryan said sticking his hand out in front of you. “I want you to answer a few questions first,” he said looking at Tom. You could tell Bryan was joking, but the tone in his voice was so serious.
“Yes, of course,” Tom replied to him. You could see in his eyes that he wasn’t taking anything to heart; he thought it was pretty funny, actually.
“Right. First, where are you going?”
“Some Italian place, I can’t recall the name of it,” Tom told him. Bryan glances at you for a second before looking back at Tom.
“Bad answer. Second, will you be getting dessert after?”
“I don’t know yet, we’ll see as the night goes on.”
“I’ll take that. Third, do you plan on having y/n stay the night?” Bryan finally asked making you mutter a quiet ‘oh my gosh’ and put your face in your hand.
“I don’t know, I guess that’s up to her,” Tom said with a laugh. That was not a question he expected to hear.
“Wrong. You’ll have her back by 10:30 sharp and not a minute later.” Bryan said shaking his finger at Tom. Before he looked at you and made the ‘I’m watching you’ face at both of you. “Now get out my sight, and eat some damn good food.” You walked out the door and down the hallway with Tom before you looked back at your doorway.
“You’d think he’s my father,” you said with a laugh.
“I think he thinks he’s your father,” Tom said echoing your laugh. He grabbed your hand as you made your way to the parking garage and got in Tom’s car. He drove to the restaurant where you were going to meet his family. You walked inside and saw they had already been seated. As you walked closer to the table, you heard your name come from a woman’s voice.
“Y/n!” You heard Nikki call out to you. She stood up and met you half way giving you a big hug. “It’s so nice to finally meet you properly. You look gorgeous!”
“Thank you! It’s nice to finally meet you too,” you told her. You turned as you saw Dominic stand up as well.
“How are you, y/n,” he said hugging you as well. “It’s nice to finally meet the girl that this one won’t shut up about,” he joked pointing at Tom. You laughed as you looked at him. He slightly blushed as he looked at his dad.
“You didn’t need to say that,” he said quietly. “Here, have a seat, love.” Tom guided you to sit at the table between him and the twins, Sam being closest to you. You greeted them as you sat down and looked toward the youngest of the bunch.
“And this is Paddy, the baby of the family,” Tom teased him causing Pads to make a face towards him. “Pads, this is y/n.”
“How are you, Paddy?” You asked him politely.
“I’m good, really hungry actually,” he said as he looked at his menu. You laughed.
“I can fully relate to that,” you said with a laugh.
The waiter came to the table after you said this. You ordered a water to drink and started to look at the menu before you heard Nikki talking to you.
“So, y/n. What do you do currently? Do you have a job or are you in school?”
“I just graduated actually. I got my degree in nursing, which is super cool,” you told her.
“That’s exciting. What area do you plan to work in?”
“Neonatal ICU,” you told her before you saw something strange popping up over Nikki’s shoulder.
“Oh my gosh,” you said quietly as you crossed you arms on the table and placed your head on your arms.
“You okay, darling?” Nikki asked as you picked your head up. You were trying to contain your laughter, but it felt impossible. At the table right behind yours sat your brother and roommate; they were wearing ridiculous wigs and those glasses with the big nose and fake moustaches. You saw your brother give you a big thumbs up like nothing was wrong.
“I’m so sorry,” you told Nikki. “My brother and roommate are sitting at the table behind you, and they’re just ... something else,” you said with a laugh. Everyone looked at the table they were at and let out at laugh. They took that as their invitation to join your table.
“Good evening, we’re customer service here to make sure you have a good dining experience,” y/b/n said in an Italian accent.
“Yeah, you should totally get the lasagna, it’s great,” Bryan said not even bothering to disguise his voice which caused y/b/n to smack him.
“Stick to the plan,” he said quietly.
“What are you doing here?” You asked the boys trying to get them to leave quickly.
“We’re the backup,” Bryan said proudly puffing his jacket.
“I told you I don’t need backup,” you said seriously.
“Hey! You keep your hands where I can see them,” y/b/n told Tom as he noticed his hand had moved under the table to rest on your thigh. He pulled his hand out and raised both in surrender. You looked at Tom as you tried not to get upset with the delinquents in front of you.
“Alright,” y/b/n said sensing you getting close to exploding. “We will leave you to it. Y/n has too many weapon choices in front of her for us to stick around,” he said making the boys all laugh. They waved at you, and you threw them the bird. You watched as they exited the restaurant.
“It’s like having two toddlers that I constantly have to entertain, and they won’t leave me alone,” you said feeling exasperated. “So, that was my brother, y/b/n, and our roommate, Bryan. They are the absolute best but also the absolute worst.”
Nikki laughed as you tried to explain the craziness that just happened. “Don’t worry about it. I know how boys can be,” she said looking at her own boys.
You shook your head looking back down at the menu. You felt you cheeks finally cool down from the hot blush of embarrassment the two boys had caused. Tom places his hand back on your thigh.
“That was the best thing I have ever seen,” Harry said looking toward you. “Are they always like that?”
     “Always,” you emphasized.
“Maybe you can invite them around more, be the entertainment from time to time,” Dom joked.
You were glad they hadn’t taken it seriously. They all found it hilarious.
“They do it because they love you,” Tom reminded you. You nodded, telling him you have to remind yourself about that often.
“What did you need backup for?” Paddy asked you.
“I wish I knew. They were asking me if I needed them to be my backup before I left, and I told them to stay home. I have no idea why they came,” you tried to explain their behavior again.
“I liked them, y/n,” Paddy told you. “Don’t punish them too bad.”
You laughed at what Paddy told you. “Okay, I won’t. Just for you,” you promised him as you sipped your water.
You finished dinner and had a lovely time with the Holland family. Tom drove you back to the apartment and walked you to your door.
“That went well,” Tom said as you stopped in front of the door.
Yeah, I just wish the two bozos wouldn’t have ruined it,” you said with an eye roll. Tom laughed and grabbed your hand.
“They didn’t ruin it,” Tom assured you. “No one was upset with them but you. They actually thought it was pretty funny.”
“I guess so,” you say, still unconvinced. Tom lightly laughed at you and pulled you into him. He began to lean down toward you to kiss you but was interrupted before he could.
“NOPE!” You heard y/b/n yell through the door. You and Tom both looked toward the sound of the voice before you rolled your eyes again. You grabbed Tom’s face and kissed him.
     “Night, Tom,” you said.
“Good night, darling. I’ll text you later,” he said as he walked away. You opened your door and saw both Bryan and y/b/n fall to the ground.
“Y’all are the worst!” You yelled at them, half joking and half not. You grabbed the closest thing to you, an plastic bat from the fair, and began to wack both of them with it. You eventually stopped and they stood up.
“Damn, you could’ve been gentler,” Bryan said. They were both laughing while they rubbed they’re wounds. They thought it was hilarious how you reacted.
“That was me being gentle,” you told him. “And the only reason I was gentle is because Paddy told me not to hurt you two for real.” You headed for your room ready to change and take your makeup off.
“Remind me to thank the kid when I meet him,” y/b/n said to Bryan, him agreeing.

Chapter 10
Sunny’s POV
Two days later...
It was hot. Like ridiculously hot. I started to sweat the moment we left our hotel and hopped into the 4x4. But I felt happy. The scenery around us was absolutely stunning. There were blue skies with clouds so fluffy they looked like massive cotton balls; a clear sighting of a volcano before us. The African trees grew outward like natural shade keepers and exotic birds flew in flocks above us. The grass is tall and sporadic with patches of small purple flowers. The dirt was almost a close shade to red and I kicked up a bit of it as my eyes followed the tracks that had been created from what I could only assume had been Shoreline and their giant vehicles. I bent down to pick up a handful of the red dirt and watched it slip through my fingers in amusement before leaning against the side of the 4x4. I looked over at Nathan who was hanging over the steering wheel, tiredly watching Sam and Sully try to get the locator to work. “What are those satellites sayin’, Victor?” I heard Sam ask as he tossed a random rock around in his hands nervously. He’d been fidgety ever since we landed in Madagascar. I sighed and adjusted my black cat eye shaped sunglasses.
“Right now, not a goddamn thing. I lost the signal.” Sully mumbled as he raised the device and circled the area in front of the Jeep. Nathan groaned and rolled his eyes before hopping out of the car and reaching into his back pocket.
“You know what never loses signal?” He pulled out a map of the area and placed it on the hood like he’d just done a magic trick. “Paper…” He said with sarcasm. I scoffed with my hands on my hips as we all approached him.
“Smart ass.” I mumbled, punching his shoulder. Nathan pointed to where he had traced a few lines through the map.
“This should be the closer route to getting us to that volcano.” He said. “Might get a little bumpy though.” I rolled my eyes as I leaned on his wide back with both arms, peering over his shoulder.
“You didn’t bring me to an active volcano did you?” I poured at him, giving my best puppy dog eyes and he grinned with a twitter of laughter.
“We should be alright. It’s been extinct for years.” Sully told me and Nathan fake gasped.
“Wait- you mean to tell me you actually did some research?” He quipped.
“Trust me, that was the first thing I looked up. And I can’t let you three be the know-it-alls every time.” Sully replied with a chuckle. Sam nodded as he disposed of his rock and clapped his hands together.
“Alright. Let’s get this show on the road…” he said. Suddenly he stopped a moment to look at me and chuckled. “Is that a fanny pack?” He giggled.
“Yeah!” I grinned and he burst into laughter. “Don’t make fun of the fanny pack, bro.” I warned him as I headed for the car, leaving him behind to sniffle away his laughter as we all climbed into the 4x4. Nathan and Sully in the front, Sam and I occupying the backseat. With a wiggle of the stick shift and a turn of a key, we were on our way to explore the ruins of King’s Bay.
“So what are we supposed to be looking for?” Sully asked.
“Well the map shows all sorts of structures around the volcano. Some abandoned outposts, a handful of watchtowers…” Nathan answered.
“Watchtowers?” I questioned. Sam threw an arm around the back seat, stretching out enough that it went behind even me. He leaned into the corner of his seat to look at me as he dropped me some knowledge.
“Avery was one of the most wanted pirates in the world. If he was hiding something out here, then it makes sense that he’d need lookouts.” He said, simply. He almost sounded like a scholar the way he talked about Henry Avery. One moment he was this fratty “do somethin’ crazy” guy and other times he’d be more quiet and studious. The duality of this man was enough to give me whiplash.
“One of those towers is right on the volcano, too.” Nathan added. I scoffed, rubbing my fingers through my curls as the wind aired out my scalp.
“I know you said it wasn’t active but I’d still like to not be right on top of a volcano.” I commented as we ran over a giant rock. The car jumped a few inches from the ground and came down hard, startling me. “Shit…” I whispered to myself with a hand on my chest to calm my spiking heart rate. Sam just chuckled as he seemed to analyze me from head to toe.
“Live a little, Sunny. You’re only alive to see the world like this once.” He told me with a smirk.
“I guess…” I sighed. Nate wasn’t kidding around when we said things would get bumpy.
“So you think Avery’s treasure is there? At the watchtower on the volcano?” Sully asked.
“Fingers crossed.” Sam replied. I could sense his anxiety from where I sat. His fingers tapped on the back of my seat rhythmically to calm himself. I turned to face him a bit with a leg folded in the seat between us, resting against his thigh. I picked at my nails before tapping him on his knee. He looked at me as if he were snatched from his thoughts.
“We’ll find the treasure, Sam.” I told him with a bit of optimism making itself present in my voice. A soft smile played on his lips for a brief moment until Sully spoke.
“I see some ruins up ahead.” He said. Nathan stopped the vehicle, pulling on the hand brake before hopping out and running towards the ruin.
“I’ll be back in a sec.” he called.
“Bring me back something shiny, will ya?” Sully shouted back. A grin played on my lips a while as I listened to Sam and Sully talk, slipping into my own thoughts. I liked where I was. Being here on uncharted South African territory with these three amazing men; Learning so much as the days drew on. I was even exhilarated during fights. I had never felt so alive. Since Nathan quit the life, I’d missed it. I tuned back in to their conversation of how the business had moved on to the internet more these days. I had almost forgotten that Sam hadn’t been around for all of these changes in technology. “I prefer doing my business face-to-face. It’s hard to do in a chat group when your talkin’ to some guy with the name ‘AntiquityMaster37’.” Sully chuckled and my eyes grew.
“You’re kiddin’...” I wheezed.
“I wish I were, Sunny. I wish I were.” He said lighting a cigar.
“What a dweeb.” I commented as I watched Nathan return to the car.
“Well?” Sam asked his brother.
“Nothin’ yet. Let’s keep going.” Nathan replied and he gassed up.
We continued to drive around for a while through dried up valleys, Nathan driving us over every single bump available, sometimes hitting trees and rocks in the process.
“Ayo, there ain’t no auto club out here, little brother!” Sam shouted at him above the engine. He just couldn’t control himself this trip. Nothing but terrible dad jokes, puns, and a captain obvious complex; also the worst backseat driver a car could ever hope for. I seemed to be the only one laughing for a time. That was until Nathan let me drive. God Sam just would not shut up. He talked more shit about me than anyone else that drove that day. “You’re supposed to rev it up, then floor it sweetheart!” He told me, tapping me on the shoulder as I drove up a muddy hill. My patience was running thinner and thinner as he continued to spew off at the mouth. I looked at Sully and raised an eyebrow. All he could do was laugh at me as I stopped the 4x4 and turned around in my seat to face Sam.
“Do you wanna drive, Sam? Cuz you’re doing an awful lotta backseat drivin’ right now, homie-”
“Actually I would prefer to drive.” He said interrupting me smugly.
“Don’t fuckin’ test me, Drake, I swear to god I’ll throw you out the 4x4-” I snapped. This heat was clearly getting to me.
“I’d like to see you try, sister!” He said, furrowing his brows at me, leaning in with a rather serious expression. I’d take that challenge and he knew damn well I would. I opened my mouth to rebuttal when Nathan suddenly interrupted our brief heated argument with a wave of his hands and a yell.
“Hey! Hey now! Stop arguing like a couple of children. We don’t have time for this. Sam, stop picking on Sunny- and Sunny, hop on back. I’m the only one driving from now on.” He said, mediating the situation. I sucked my teeth and rolled my eyes with a groan, slouching and throwing my head back. Sully laughed and patted my knee. I snarled a bit as I pushed the car door open and slammed it closed as Nathan just hopped over into the driver’s seat. I lit myself a cigarette as I walked to get in the backseat.
“Asshole.” I mumbled to Sam as I slid into my seat, my arms folded. When he smirked, I had realized that was his plan all along. To have me in the backseat with him again.
“For the record, you wouldn’t stand a chance against Sunny.” Sully commented, throwing a wink my way. I smirked, taking a drag of my cigarette and Sam just scoffed and turned his head. He was getting antsy. We’d been out driving for a while and found a bunch of abandoned towers just as Nathan had said. It was a bit disheartening but Sam was turning into a little shit the longer we went without finding something or at least without running into Shoreline. Suddenly we found ourselves at the end of an old bridge. It didn’t look stable in the slightest.
“That bridge there is what you would call ‘rickety’.” Sam commented. I placed a hand on Nate’s shoulder and squeezed it nervously.
“We’re not gonna…” I looked at him with a gulp and he shrugged.
“We might have to…” he winced. I groaned.
“Nothing is ever safe with you, is it?” I mumbled.
“If you’re lookin’ for safe, you might be in the wrong line of work, sweetheart.” Sam chimes in as we all braced ourselves to cross this bridge. “Look, just drive slow- keep it in the center…” he said, coaching Nathan unnecessarily as he drove. My heart rate was climbing as we reached the middle of the bridge.
“Sunny was right there’s a lot of backseat driving going o- OH SHIT!” He exclaimed as the bridge shifted down a hair. I screamed, grabbing on tightly to Sam’s arm and shutting my eyes. But the car kept moving and we made it across the bridge unharmed. Even afterward, I didn’t move and Sam just smiled to himself.
“Jesus, kid…” Sully mumbled as we continued uphill. Every now and then, Nathan would drive us off of a tall rock and we’d fall to the ground roughly but we lived.
“Victor, just curious but what were you arguing with the rental guy about?” Sam asked.
“Well, your brother insisted on getting a 4x4 with a winch.” Sully said.
“So you sprung for the winch, but you couldn’t spring for suspension- I got it.” He nodded. Sam was kinda right. Suspension would’ve made the trip less bumpy.
“You’ll never know! It could rain, it could get muddy. We could use the extra equipment.” Nathan retorted in favor of the winch. He was also right. Sully snorted.
“I bet we go this whole job without using that goddamn winch.” He said.
“I’m willing to bet on that.” Nathan replied confidently as he began to drive on a ridiculously narrow path made of massive rocks. Luckily, I was on the inside of the path closed to the wall so I couldn’t look down and see how high up we were. The view was beautiful though.
“Just take it slow, kid…” Sully said as Nathan slowed down considerably, carefully turning the corners. That’s when we came upon a tower on a muddy hill.
“Lookit!” I pointed excitedly. It seemed to be in better shape than the first tower we found. Not nearly as destroyed or eroded. Nathan stopped the 4x4 at the bottom of the hill and hopped out.
“I’ll come with.” Sam said, hopping out as well. Then he paused and turned to me. “Sunny, ya comin’ or not?” He asked as he began to climb the stairs. I was honestly surprised. I had planned on hanging back, thinking that maybe he wouldn’t want me to get in the way.
“Okay…” I said giving Sully a look.
“I’ll keep the car warm for ya.” Sully jokes.
“I’m sure it’s warm enough.” I chuckled as I hopped out of the car, stretching my limbs before climbing the stairs as well.
“Structure’s in pretty good shape for somethin’ several hundred years old.” Sam commented as he rounded the base of the tower. I followed the brothers into the tower where a sigil of a dragon was implanted into the middle of the floor. “That’s Christopher Condent’s sigil. Captain of the Fiery Dragon, operated outta Madagascar during Avery’s time.” He began vomiting information and I leaned against a wall with an intrigued smile as the brothers looked around. This was all truly amazing. These people were standing… right here. I kept my distance not wanting to accidentally touch something that shouldn’t be and watch the boys do their thing. “So Avery was recruiting captains...for what? To be his lookouts? Doesn’t make any sense...” Sam asked as I watched his brother scribble something down in his journal.
“I know… it doesn’t.” he replied.
“Maybe each captain was responsible for a tower and fronted the men for it.” I chimed in. I wanted to help. I wanted to learn. I’d listened to Sam enough to know a thing or two by now. Sam nodded as he raised an inquisitive brow.
“In that case, this definitely isn’t our last stop on the tour…” he said as we watched Nathan begin to climb the tower. I could feel his eyes on me as I looked up at my best friend do his thing. I wondered what he was thinking about. I turned my head just as he looked away out into the view. “So I never did thank you for this… Coming out with us, I mean.” He said, rubbing a bit of sweat off the back of his neck.
“Of course. Nathan needed my help so I gave it.” I replied simply, trying my best not to get flustered.
“I know… I just wanted to say thanks.” He smiled. And I looked back up to Nathan to avoid his gaze. There was a certain softness behind his eyes when he looked at me lately. Or a vulnerability… Like he couldn’t help being himself in every way around me. But I also sensed a bit of guilt. I couldn’t figure out what and for a moment it bothered me. Until I heard him groan a bit. He had grabbed the bridge of his nose and pinched it gently.
“Migraine?” I asked and he nodded.
“Forgot to take my breakfast aspirin.” He joked. I smirked, shaking my head as I reached into my fanny pack. I pulled out a small BC packet and an energy bar, holding it out to him. His brows shot up as he took them and I grinned smugly.
“Fanny Pack.” I said simply. He smirked as we watched Nathan climb down and his boots landed on the platform with a loud thud. “Anything?”
“Not this time. Let’s go find the next tower.” Nathan said.
Sully had lost his bet already for we used the winch for the first time. Nate wrapped it around a tree and it pulled the 4x4 up a muddy hill with ease. When we were safely at the top, Nathan gave him a smug grin as he detached it from the tree. “See, Sully? Winch.” He bragged.
“Okay, okay. It was a good idea.” Sully caved. We pulled off onto another path that led us to another spectacular view of the volcano. Sam and I both stood simultaneously to admire the view.
“Holy shit…” I murmured with a smile. I’d never seen anything like it.
“Just imagine… you come here, a well-to-Do pirate, far away from your oppressive government-” Sam started to paint a picture for me but Sully gave a hearty interrupted laugh.
“Oh poor oppressed pirates. All they wanted to do was murder and pillage in peace.” He chuckled. Sam got lightly defensive.
“No, no- they just wanted to live as free men.” Sam explained as we sat back down.
“Well if you’re gonna pick a place to run away from society, you could do a lot worse than here…” Nathan commented. I groaned in boredom. We’d been here in the heat for hours and hadn’t found a thing.
“All I know is, it’s takin’ forever and a month of Sundays to get to this volcano.” I grumble and Sully agrees vocally.
“Patience, guys, patience.” Sam said placing a hand on my knee, causing me to tense up a little as he continued to talk. “Do you guys even know how those pirates got here? They had to start in England, sail to Brazil, then cut back across the Atlantic to South Africa…”
“Sam-” Sully tried to interject but the man continued, so passionately speaking of the pirates’ journey. It was honestly adorable.
“AND they figured all that out with paper, charts, and by looking. At. The stars...” Sam finished.
“It’s amazing…” I had to agree.
“Kid, you’re explaining sailing to a former squid.” He replied.
“The point is: we’ve got it pretty easy.” Sam digressed.
“Yeah…. well it’s still taking a long time.” Sully mumbled grumpily. After a few more minutes of driving, an abandoned outpost came into view below us. Sam stood to admire the structure when a loud bang was heard in the distance. “Oh shit! Stop, stop!” Sully exclaimed, shaking Nathan. As we came to a halt, a cloud of smoke appeared from the bottom of the outpost. That woke me up for sure.
“I see em.” Nathan said, pulling out his binoculars to get a closer look. Sam and I leaned into the front seats.
“What do we got?” Sam asked in a low voice.
“Military types pokin’ around.” Nathan mumbled.
“Shoreline?” I asked.
“Yep.” He responded briefly, still scoping the area.
“Fuck…” I cursed under my breath.
“Looks like they found an old colony outpost.” Nathan informed us as he handed the binoculars to Sully, he proceeded to look through them himself.
“But it’s the wrong one, right?” He asked as Nathan slouched onto the steering wheel.
“That’s the good news…” he replied, tiredly.
“Which means there’s also bad news.” I groaned in sarcasm, leaning back in my seat and readying my deserter, prepping myself for a shootout and possibly a fight.
“Only route to the volcano is straight through them…” Nathan said.
“Oh bless…” I rolled my eyes.
“Well shit…. we do have the drop on em.” Sully commented. Nathan nodded his head, making a face. I watched his expression in the rear view mirror like the clockwork was going in his head.
“What’s the play here, Nathan?” Sam asked. His brother shrugged as if there were no other options than the one he’d come up with.
“Just follow my lead.” He said simply, hopping out of the 4x4 and the rest of us followed.
“This should be good…” I said as we crept our way to the massive boulders to hide in the tall grass.
