You can always hear when James’ friends come over. The door opens and the sound of them comes pouring through into your flat, the boys always in the middle of bickering or joking or telling some incredibly animated story.
When you hear their noise late on a Friday night, you pause the movie on your laptop and head for the door, drawn towards their loudness. James’ friends are rowdier than anyone you hang out with, but it’s a happy sort of ruckus. They’re fun and hilarious and surprisingly kind, and you enjoy chatting when they come over.
“Hi, gorgeous,” Sirius sing-songs, spotting you as soon as you emerge from your room. You laugh at his scratchy, worn-out voice. He sounds like he’s probably been singing at the top of his lungs all night. Dark eyeliner has transferred to the skin under his eyes, but Sirius is the only person you know with his particular ability to make dishevelment look rock-and-roll instead of slobbish.
“Hi,” you say back, grinning at him. Your eyes search behind him to find Remus, just coming through the doorway. As always, he looks completely different from his other half; whereas Sirius has unmistakably just gotten home from a night out, Remus could just as easily have been at the library in his jeans and t-shirt, except for the faint black smudge where Sirius’ eyeliner has seemingly rubbed off on his cheek. Then you catch sight of James, drooping like an overwatered flower with his arm slung around Remus’ shoulder. “Is he okay?”
“Yeah, he’ll be alright,” Remus grunts, heaving your roommate through the entryway. He tries to send you a smile of greeting, but it’s more of a well-meaning grimace. “He just needs to drink some water.”
“I won,” Sirius says giddily, stumbling over and grabbing your arm. “I outdrank James Potter.”
There’s a nervous edge to the laugh that bubbles out of your throat. “That’s great, Sirius, congratulations.” You cast an alarmed look towards Remus. “You all had a competition?”
Remus shakes his head. “They had a competition.”
“I won,” James says suddenly, picking his head up as if revived from a deep sleep. “Don’t listen to him, Y/N, I’m the winner.”
Sirius makes a derisive sound. “You can’t even walk, Potter.”
“I can,” James defends himself, and slips his arm from around Remus’ shoulder. Both you and Remus put your hands out cautiously like when a toddler takes its first steps, but James totters safely to the couch, leaning against it like he’s just finished a marathon and directing a smug smile towards Sirius. “Suck it, Pads.”
Sirius’ lips curl impishly. His unsteady gaze settles on Remus, still hovering by the door. “Gotta get home to do that.”
“Alright,” Remus says quickly, stepping forward to take his boyfriend by the shoulders and steering him towards the door. “We’re gonna go home and get to bed—to sleep.” He’s blushing something fierce, and you do your absolute best not to smile. “Prongs.” James looks up from where he’s been toying with the fabric of your couch throw. “Drink some water, and then go to sleep, yeah?” Remus raises his brows, waiting for confirmation, and James presses a solemn hand to his heart.
“Your wish is my command, Moony-boy.”
Remus rolls his eyes but turns to go, sending you a quick goodnight with an apology embedded in his voice before he shuts the door behind him. You lock it, and turn back around to find James performing a lazy somersault over the back of the couch and onto the cushions.
“James,” you laugh, and he smiles up at you like he doesn’t know what’s so funny but is happy to be a part of it anyway, “do you want to come into the kitchen to have some water?”
James turns pensive. “Is that where you’re going?”
“Mhm.”
“Then sure.” He hops up a bit too fast, and has to put his arms out in front of him to regain his balance.
You take his forearm in your hand, knowing you won’t be able to support his weight if he really falls but hoping you can at least slow his descent, and begin walking him toward the kitchen. “Are you feeling dizzy?” you ask him.
James hums. “A bit. But in a good way, you know?”
You don’t, but you nod anyway. “Well,” you say with certainty you can’t feel, “that’s good. Chill here for a second, okay?” You prop him up against the counter, and James melts against it instantly in that easy way he has, leaning back on his elbows and crossing his ankles in front of him. The edge of the counter has to be digging into his back, but James makes it look like the most comfortable spot in the flat.
You start to grab a glass from the cabinet but then think the better of it, opting for a less destructible plastic cup. You fill it with icy water from the tap.
“Alright.” You pass it to him. “Don’t drink it too fast.”
James takes the cup with a smile that’s really much sweeter than your tiny gesture warrants. Then he proceeds to slide the rest of the way down the counter, until he’s sitting with his legs spread out in front of him on the floor. After a moment, you decide to join him, crossing your legs under you and letting your back rest beside his. The floor just seems like the place to be right now.
For the first time since you’ve known him, James seems content to sit in silence, sipping at his water. Neither of you are looking at each other, or really anywhere in particular. It’s definitely a Friday night, more of the noise of voices and traffic making their way up to your flat than you hear on most days of the week, but your home itself is quiet. The light in the kitchen is dim, coming in from the lamp you’ve left on in the living room, and your body relaxes instinctively in the peaceful dark.
James has nearly emptied the cup when he says, “Hey,” as if he’s just remembered something important.
You look at him. “What?”
“There’s no ice in here.”
You raise your eyebrows. “Did you want ice? I can put some in, I just thought you preferred drinks without ice.”
Even in the dim light, you can make out enough of James’ eyes to see the brown in them go absolutely molten. He turns toward you more fully, his shoulder and cheek squished up against the cabinets. “Aww, you knew.”
You laugh at him, his smushed cheek pushing his glasses up on his face and his bottom lip jutting out slightly. The effect is that he looks both worryingly drunk and decidedly endearing. “Of course I know,” you say. “We’re roommates. I’m bound to pick up on things.”
Your words do nothing to curb James’ adoration. “Still, you noticed,” he says, maudlin. “Thanks, sweetheart.”
Sweetheart. The word resounds in your head like the happy chime of a bell. James is always calling you that, but usually it seems thrown away, a light little endearment he tacks onto his addresses without thinking. This feels different. It lingers on his tongue like caramel, soft and sticky sweet. Sweetheart.
“Of course,” you say again, and you’re grateful for the poor lighting that’s hiding your blush. “Ready to go to bed?”
James looks at you like you’ve asked him to solve a calculus equation, thick brows knitting together. Maybe it’s the endearment still ringing in your head, but you really want to smooth the crease from between them with your thumb. You don’t.
“I dunno,” he says after a moment. “Are you tired?”
“A little,” you admit. “Aren’t you?”
He shrugs. “I could be.” And then he’s hauling himself up, an overly complicated process that involves getting his feet underneath him while he’s already using the counter to pull himself off the floor. You have to bite back a smile as you watch, and when he’s done James extends a hand to you. As if you’re the one who needs help.
You take it but don’t actually put any of your weight on him as you stand, grabbing his empty cup from the counter. James’ hand is big, engulfing yours easily, and the condensation from the cool water still lingers on his palm. He doesn’t let go as you start towards his bedroom. You tell yourself it’d be mean to pull away on your own.
“Oh!” he exclaims, once again like he’s discovered something fascinating. “I haven’t even asked—how’s your night been?”
You laugh again. You can never seem to stop laughing around James. “It’s been good, thanks. Not as eventful as yours, I take it.”
James hums in unhappy affirmation. “Lucky you.”
“Well, seems like you got the true night-out experience.” You bring him to sit on his bed, bending to untie his shoes for him and setting them by the door. “Do you wanna sleep in that or change into pajamas?” you ask, fighting the urge to tack on the honey that pushes at your lips.
There’s no deliberation there. “Pajama pants, at least. I can’t wear jeans in bed, m’not a monster.”
You smile to yourself, locating a pair of pajama pants on the floor and holding them up for him to see. “These okay?”
“Yeah, thanks.”
You toss them to him. James starts to strip, and you turn around quickly, going into the bathroom. “So, aside from the drinking contest, did you have a good time tonight?”
“Yeah,” he says lightly. You fill the cup with water from James’ sink and find a bottle of ibuprofen in the drawer underneath. “It wasn’t bad. Remus is so busy lately, it’s good to get to see him at all, and beating Sirius is always fun.” He gives a little laugh. “He’s such a sore loser.”
“He seemed to think he’d won,” you say, your tone teasingly dubious.
A harrumph. “If Remus doesn’t set him straight on that, I’ll do it tomorrow.”
You chuckle.
“You’ll tell ‘em, won’t you?”
“For sure. Do you have your pants on yet?”
“Oh. Yeah.” You go back into the bedroom to find James comfy under the covers, smiling sheepishly. “I didn’t know you were waiting for me to tell you, sorry.”
“No worries.” You smile. He looks so sweet like this, curls splayed out around his head on the pillow the way a kid draws rays around the sun. You set the cup and pill bottle on his nightstand, using your proximity to study his face. His pupils are huge and unfocussed, and the smile he’s aiming at you is a bit too dopey for your liking. “You said you were dizzy…do you think you’re going to be sick?”
“No.” James starts to push himself up as if to make his point, then decides against it, resting his head against the edge of the mattress with a tiny grimace. “Maybe.”
“That’s okay,” you reassure him, grabbing a wastebasket from under his desk. “Here, I’m going to put this by the bed just in case, okay? And you’ve got water and ibuprofen on the nightstand.”
James doesn’t respond. He’s looking at you dazedly.
“James.” You tap his cheek lightly. “Do you understand? You need to use the wastebasket if you feel sick.”
His hand emerges from beneath the covers, fingers braceleting your wrist. “Stay with me,” he mumbles. You’re glad he’s definitely too out of it to feel the quick bumping of your pulse beneath his fingers. When you hesitate a second too long, James tightens his grip beseechingly. “Please, sweetheart?”
There it is again. Your brain buzzes in response.
“Alright,” you whisper, brushing a soothing touch against the inside of his forearm, and James releases you. “I was watching a movie before you got home. Want to finish it?”
He agrees, and you go across the hall, retrieving your laptop. You climb over him on the bed, pretending not to feel the brush of a big hand across your hip as though meant to steady you. You settle your laptop between the two of you and press play on the movie.
James leans over, resting his head on your shoulder. “You’re always watching this,” he murmurs. “You don’t get tired of it?”
“Not really,” you reply. “It’s my favorite. But if you are, I can change it.”
He makes a humming sound, and you feel the vibrations in your shoulder. “No, s’alright. Bet you can quote half the film, though, can’t you?”
You grin. “I’m scared,” you say, in time with the actress on your screen. “I don’t wanna get hurt.” You can feel James smiling, his cheek smushing against your shoulder. You lower your voice into a gruff mockery of the male actor’s intonation. “I’m not gonna hurt you.”
James makes a soft sound of amusement. “Cute,” he murmurs, more to himself than to you.
You fall into an easy silence, blue light cast over your features as the familiar scenes play out quietly on your laptop. You keep sneaking glances at James, thinking he’s either about to fall asleep or be sick, but he’s watching the movie contentedly, head a solid but welcome weight on your shoulder. He’s evidently decided to discard the shirt he’d worn to the bar, and the skin of his bare shoulder is warm where it presses against your arm. He adjusts his head a little, and his curls tickle the underside of your jaw. You don’t know how he gets them so soft. Not through any strict regimen or product, apparently. One good thing about having a guy for a roommate is that he’s never the one who runs out the hot water; he’s in and out of the shower in ten minutes every time. And yet, if you look closely enough, you can usually find at least two or three perfect coils in his hair. Genetics, you suppose. James was blessed with a good lot of them.
The movie’s not half done before you’re yawning, your eyelids feeling like someone’s sewn fishing weights into them. You try not to shift, but your shoulders rise with the involuntary inhale, and James looks up at you. You yawn again, covering your mouth with one hand as a tear forms in the corner of your eye, squished out when you blink. You wipe it away.
“Wait,” James says. You go still, looking over at him curiously as he adjusts against the headboard of his bed, pushing himself further upright. He tilts his head. The back of his index finger brushes gently under your lashes. “You always get teary at night,” he says softly.
You know you should get out from under his touch, but you can’t make yourself. “I tear up a lot when I yawn.”
Just thinking about it has you yawning again, and James takes your face in his hand, catching the tear that falls from one eye.
“Don’t cry,” he begs you. “If you cry, I’ll cry.”
You take his wrist in your hand, giving him a small smile. “I’m not crying, James. I’m just tired.”
“Okay,” he murmurs, pressing a kiss, feather-light, just next to your eye. You freeze, but he doesn’t seem to notice. “Okay, m’sorry. You’re tired? Wanna go to sleep?”
You have to clear your throat to make sure your voice comes out right. “Sure.” It’s still a bit hoarse. “Wake me if you need anything, okay?”
James takes your hand, a willing captive between two of his as he draws it into his lap. He settles his head back onto your shoulder. “Okay. You’re too nice to me.”
“I’m not,” you say, before you can think the better of it. “You’re the nice one.”
James only hums.
You swallow. “Goodnight.”
You’re waiting for a response, the movie on your laptop just now getting to the scene where the love interests give in and confess their feelings for each other, when you feel a wet spot forming near the collar of your shirt. Slowly, careful not to jostle him, you tilt your head to look down at the source of the drool puddle.
James already asleep.

James x gn!reader, kind of shy!reader, tooth-rotting fluff.
cw: too cheesy, brief mention of smut, nothing graphic

“Angel! I’m home!” You couldn’t help but smile as you heard his bag drop against the wood floor. He put on the same antics every time he came back from sports practice, throwing his bag down on the ground (no matter how many times you say to put it on the bench), and yelling whatever pet name comes to his mind at that moment. He was always finding little honorifics to call you, he was just sweet like that. You heard the heavy thumping of his socked feet as he ran down the hall into your living room.
“Hi Jamie! How was practice?” You beamed at him. He was really pretty like this, his curls were damp and his face was flushed. He looked cozy in his sports hoodie and black sweats.
“It was good, we ended a bit early so I got a shower in the change room.” You believed that. He smelled strong of his woodsy cologne. “How was your day, Baby?” You put the book you were reading down to give your boyfriend your full attention, still careful to mark the page.
“It was good. I did some studying and some work but I mostly just sat here doing nothing.” You smiled up at him and chuckled. “I should start working on dinner soon though, what do you want to have?”
“You.” He said, deadpan. But it only took three seconds for him to break and start giggling, too satisfied with his joke.
“Jamie,” you chided. “Pick something real to have.” You rolled your eyes and shook your head, but you were still smiling, somehow still endeared by his usual antics.
“You look pretty real to me, Angel. But I guess it wouldn’t hurt to check.” You had little time to figure out his meaning when he launched himself over the arm of the couch to lay on top of you. You squealed as he tugged your hips down, forcing you to lay flat against him.
“Baby! I’m real, but I’m not real food.” You reasoned, not hesitating to thread your fingers through his hair. You weren’t always the best at initiating contact, but when James did, you couldn’t stop. You started gently scratching his scalp, attempting to calm him, but he was determined in his teasing. Despite your words he started frantically pressing open-mouth kisses all over your face.
“You may not be real food,” He said in between his loving attacks, “But you do taste good.” He grinned at you, too satisfied with himself.
“Jamie,” You sighed, giving up discouraging him. Noticing your surrender, he pushed himself up, still over you and looked down at your face. His big, brown eyes bore into your soul, making you squirm under his gaze.
“There you go,” He grew even more satisfied. He was the nicest boyfriend ever, but he did take joy in making you go all shy underneath him. “There’s my baby.” He pressed another kiss to your forehead. His voice grew quieter with you being so close to him. “Finally letting me love on you without turning into a mess.” Ironically this made you even more flustered, but being as kind as always, James chose to ignore it.
“I love you.” You smiled shyly at him.
“I love you too, Angel.” He said back at you. He glanced over to the side table. “What are you reading?”
“O. Henry short stories.” You moved your fingers to the curls at the nape of his neck, still being just as loving.
“Read some to me?” He looked at you hopefully.
“You’ll be bored, they’re not really your style.” You leaned your neck up to kiss his cheek, and he rewarded you with a smile.
“But you’re my style, and I like it when you read to me.” And you couldn’t say no when he was looking at you like that. As soon as you nodded he set about fixing you both, you leaning against the arm of the couch, book in hand. He laid with his lower legs hanging off the opposite end of the couch and his face nuzzled against your lap and tummy.
“Okay, which story do you want to hear?” You let your free hand roam over his broad shoulders and back, knowing they were probably tensed and ached from his practice.
“Whichever, Angel. Just let me lay here and listen.” He was being equally as feely with you, grabbing and gently pinching your hips and thighs while you started your story.

poly!marauders x feisty, fem slytherin!reader CW: head injury - not graphic or detailed but mentions blood.
“Okay Moony, if you’re going to help us win over Y/N, you should know she does not like dramatic public displays of appreciation.” James said sagely as he walked into their shared dorm room.
Remus spared Sirius a confused look from his seat in the chair, but from the way James was currently rubbing his arm Sirius had a pretty good idea of what just took place.
“Yeah, erm, I don’t think you have to worry about that with me, bubs. Thanks for the heads up though.” Remus added bemusedly.
“Let me guess.” Sirius taunted, rolling over onto his stomach so that he faced James. “The charmed roses following her around the halls wasn’t a hit?”
“No, but she did...” He sulked, pulling his uniform shirt off to expose a small albeit quite red welt on his upper arm.
“Awe, poor Jamie. Come here bubs.” Remus cooed at him, opening his arms to invite the boy into his lap.
James obliged all too willingly and snuggled up to the werewolf like he was a small toddler and not a giant beefy man-baby.
“Don’t mollify him when he’s out here botching our grand plans to woo the girl of our dreams.” Sirius said, causing Remus to roll his eyes and James to scoff indignantly.
“Well at least I’m working on it! What are you doing to woo her?” James retaliated.
Sirius offered him a wolfish grin. “Oh, I’ve got a little trick up my sleeve.”
Tumblr media
You had to get out of the castle. You could still feel everyone’s eyes on you, ogling you like you were some kind of freakshow.
You don’t know what kind of game those Gryffindor’s were trying to play, but you were not about to be the butt of whatever sodding joke this was.
Roses, really? Charmed to follow you around the castle as Potter smirked from the sidelines. Did he have any idea how humiliating that was?
       So, yeah. You walloped him. In the arm. With your fist. Hard. But what else were you supposed to do!? You’d confronted him and demanded that he end the charm and all he said was ‘you look so cute when your nose scrunches up like that’.
He and Black have always been a bother – seemingly having taken some kind of interest in you for whatever reason. Lupin had always been more reasonable; one would think that he’d have evened those two out during their relationship, but apparently that was an impossible task. You supposed it was because he was all but one man.
But lately, even he was starting to stare at you a little too long, smile a little too softly, find too many excuses to be in your vicinity. It was infuriating.
So, you were outside.
It was nice outside.
Well, it was nice enough outside.
You packed yourself some snacks in your book bag, two blankets and an extra jumper to go sit by the Black Lake. You figured you should be able to enjoy some peace and quiet out here on your own.
You unfolded one of the blankets to lay onto the ground before sitting on it and then laid the second blanket over your lap. You could hear other students on the grounds in the distance and the soothing sound of the water lapping gently against the shore.
As luck would have it, a certain dog with long-black hair would set out to disrupt that.
“What are you doing here?” You asked the dog as it approached you calmly. You wondered for a moment if you should be scared before it stopped at the edge of your blanket to sit and tilt its head at you, his tongue falling out of his mouth haphazardly.
He didn’t look too scary, ignoring his size.
You craned your neck to look around, checking if perhaps he was here with someone, but it appeared that you were, in fact, alone on this side of the lake.
You felt something cold and wet nudge your pinkie, and you turned to see that the dog had laid down beside you with his head between his paws, nose next to your hand.
“If I pet you, are you going to bite me?” You asked him. He answered by nudging your hand again and offering it a little lick.
“You better not have fleas.” You muttered as you scratched behind the dog’s ears. You would have sworn he had furrowed his eyebrows at your comment if dogs could do such a thing. You noticed then that the dog had startling silver-blue eyes.
“Where are your people?” You asked, glad no one was around to see you conversing with a dog. He answered you by rolling over for belly rubs.
You scoffed out a laugh but acquiesced. “Fine, you can stay. But I came out here for peace and quiet, ‘kay?”
The dog seemed fine with that plan and let you read through two chapters of your book, only interrupting every paragraph or so for more pets. Eventually however, it grew too cold, and you decided to pack up.
Confirming your suspicions, the dog began to follow you towards the castle. You pretended like you hadn’t noticed or perhaps just didn’t care until you were near the greenhouses.
“For future reference, Black,” you said, turning to the dog who seemed to pause mid-step as you considered him. “I really am more of a cat person.” You smirked, turning to walk back to the castle alone.
Tumblr media
“Here, let me get that for you.” James said, opening the door for you rather chivalrously in Sirius’ opinion.
“I’m not a delicate flower, Potter, I can open a door.” You muttered angrily, storming past him into the classroom.
James deflated a little as he followed you in, but perked up when Remus placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
“I thought that was very sweet of you, Jamie.” He placated.
James gave him a half smile in response. “Thanks Moons.”
“I mean, what are we supposed to do? What bird doesn’t like dogs!?” Sirius grumbled, opting to ignore James’ whining.
“Don’t call her a bird, Sirius.” Remus chided.
“Probably didn’t help you’re a big ol’ mangy mutt.” James muttered petulantly.
“Oi!” Sirius called. “That’s not what you say when Padfoot snuggles you to sleep.”
James had the good graces to turn a little red at that.
Their conversation was interrupted (quite rudely if you asked Sirius) by Professor McGonagall as she began the instructions for today’s Transfiguration lesson: turning buttons into butterflies.
Sirius stole a concerned glance towards James to see Remus doing the same; they were horrified to see a mischievous look adorning their boyfriend’s face.
“Prongs...” Sirius warned, whilst Remus whispered a “remember what we talked about.”
But they both knew it was too late; there was no stopping him once James set his mind to something.
Sirius is quite sure it was the fourth butterfly that did you in; you seemed to consider the first a fluke, the second was annoying, the third made you suspicious, but by the fourth you’d had enough.
With little to no warning you turned and lobbed a large hard-covered tome at the group.
“I don’t know which of you tossers are behind this, but it reeks of Potter. So help me gods I will gut you and string you up to the rafters from your intestines if you don’t leave me alone!” You screeched.
“But how else will you know I’m crazy about you?” James pouted, causing you to groan exasperatedly.
“If you’re looking for some cutesy princess who will swoon at your sodding roses and butterflies, then you’ve got the wrong witch.” You spat.
Sirius smirked. “Oh, we have exactly the right witch.”
“I swear to Circe if you don’t leave me alone, I’ll sic Barty on you.” You threatened.
Sirius and James both scoffed whilst Remus smirked.
“Please dollface, you insult me. I’m not afraid of Junior.” Sirius taunted.
You narrowed your eyes at him menacingly before realization dawned on you. “Fine.” You said simply, giving Sirius a distinct uneasy feeling. “Perhaps I’ll tell Regulus.”
Sirius slammed his fist on the table and leaned forward. “You wouldn’t.” He seethed.
You smirked deviously. “Just try me, Black.” You sneered in response.
Did...did Sirius have a degradation kink?
Sirius was ashamed to admit that he had to take a very cold shower after that.
Tumblr media
You had been sitting in the library trying to work on your Potions essay. You had felt fairly safe here seeing as the Gryffindor’s (at least the most problematic ones) had been sanctioned from using the library during quiet study hours on account of their typical foolishness.
Except one.
“Mind if I sit here?” Lupin’s lilting voice sounded from your right side before he sat down without waiting for your response.
“Why bother asking if you were just going to sit anyways?” You grumbled.
“Well, it was the polite thing to do.” He said, turning to face you. You held his gaze (his gaze, your glare) until he finally sighed. “I’ll leave if you want me to.”
You considered him for a moment. You couldn’t deny he was the least buffoonish out of the so-called Marauders though you’re not sure that amounted to much.
But he was quieter, kinder, softer around the edges. And he had been far more polite to you than his boyfriends.
“Are you going to flirt with me?”
One of Remus’ eyebrows (the one with the scar running through it, you noticed) raised expectantly as he considered you.
“Let me rephrase that.” You barked quickly, realizing your mistake perhaps a touch too late. “You may sit here, but if you flirt with me, I will stab you with my quill.” You punctuated your threat by blotting his hand which rested on the table with ink from the tip of your quill.
Remus smiled at the sight before returning his amber coloured gaze to yours. “Fair enough. I promise to try to restrain myself, but perhaps you ought to hold onto this hand for me just in case I slip up.” And he – the absolute sodding bastard – slid his left hand comfortably into your right.
You’d never seen someone make a move so assertively and smoothly before. There was nothing to say that any of this even affected Remus as he immediately turned his attention to his book. Was it hot in here? Your hand felt sweaty. Your throat felt tight. Your mouth was dry. Why didn’t you think to bring a bottle of water?!
“Erm,” you started, having to pause to clear your throat. “Just how am I supposed to get my work done with your hand in mine, Lupin?”
You had tried to sound threatening, but based off Remus’ smirk, you’d only managed to goad him further.
“You’re left-handed. Figure it out.”
These boys were going to be the death of you if you didn’t end up killing them first.
Tumblr media
“You held her hand!?” James screeched in their dorm room that night whilst Remus smirked to himself. Sirius would make fun of James for his dramatics if he wasn’t just a pissed off about this.
“I’ve been working at this the longest out of either of you, and she lets you hold her hand?” He continued.
“She doesn’t like dogs,” Sirius grumbled, gesturing to himself, “she doesn’t like James. But the werewolf? Really. No offence Moons because I absolutely get the appeal.”
James snapped his fingers as he had a eureka moment. “I’ve got it! Remus; bite me!”
“James!” Remus scolded.
“It’s not fair.” James muttered as he fell onto his bed in defeat. “I’d be so good to her.”
Any ire from Sirius and Remus drained at that as they both moved to join their boyfriend on his bed.
“We know, bubs.” Remus conceded.
“We just...have to give her time. I’m sure she’ll come around, yeah? I mean, with Remus’ smooth moves, my undeniable charm, and your muscles? We’re unstoppable.” Sirius added, eliciting a smile from Remus and a gentle chuckle from James, though his usual light was diminished.
“We’ve just got to be patient, Jamie.” Remus concluded, causing James to groan.
“Patience.” He spat spitefully.
“A 'James ADHD Potter' special.” Sirius winked before kissing any further protests away from James’ lips.
“We’ve got Moony on our team now, bubs. We’re unstoppable.” He whispered, truly believing what he was saying.
If anyone could break through your hard candy-coating shell to reach the chocolate inside, it was certainly Remus Lupin.
Tumblr media
You’d had the lovely idea of sitting outside on one of the few sunny days that Scotland got to see this time of year. Unfortunately, it seemed that everyone else had the same idea too.
A few Hufflepuffs were playing with a charmed muggle football, kicking it back and forth between the two of them and chasing after it when it opted to fuck off on its own. You didn’t understand the objective of the game, nor did you care to.
Remus and Peter Pettigrew sat on a bench not too far off playing a game of Wizarding Chess that, from where you were sitting, looked like Remus was winning.
You got so caught up in watching Lupin’s game with Pettigrew - in the way that the tendons in his wrist and hands flexed as he moved pieces across the board, and the way that his honey blonde curls fell in front of his eyes causing him to have to blow air upwards so he could see the board - that you noticed something flying at you far too late.
“Look out!” One of the dumb Hufflepuff’s shouted far too late as their charmed football soared into the side of your head, knocking you clean over where your head cracked painfully against a root of the tree you were sitting under.
You scrunched your eyes tight and tried to will your heart to start beating again and your lungs to cooperate, every part of your body seeming to have tensed out of instinct to protect itself.
“L/N! L/N! Come on, dove, open your eyes.” You heard a voice above you.
Why was the voice so worried? How long were your eyes closed? A gentle hand grabbed your chin and wiggled your head back and forth, causing you to hiss in pain.
“Sod...off.” You gritted through your teeth.
The voice chuckled and wiggled your chin once more. “There she is. Open your eyes for me.”
You hated being told what to do but decided to comply anyways.
You probably should have kept your eyes close because the sight made you feel dizzy for a completely different reason.
Hovering above your frame was Remus Lupin; his knees on the ground beside your elbow, one hand gripping your chin and the other gently moving hair away from your face and head.
“Atta girl.” He said with a smile.
“Get away from me.” You grumbled as you moved to sit up. Though Lupin hissed in protest, he helped you sit up nonetheless.
“Is...is she okay?” a timid voice spoke from somewhere behind Lupin’s shoulder causing his expression to darken considerably.
“You stupid wankers are so dead.” You spat as loudly as you could manage, though in your current state – that wasn’t very loud at all.
Your message was received loud and clear, however, as the two Hufflepuffs took off in fear.
“My sentiments exactly.” Lupin muttered as he turned back to you, jaw still tense.
You snorted indelicately as you brought a hand to your head. “Please, don’t tell me you actually care about me, Lupin.”
You hissed in pain as your hand came in contact with something warm and wet and slightly sticky. You pulled your hand back in front of you to inspect, only for Lupin to grab your hand rather harshly and wipe the blood away with a handkerchief.
“Is it so impossible to believe that we could actually care for you?” He muttered quietly, eyes focused on your hand, pointedly avoiding eye contact with you. You watched as his curls bounced with each wipe of his hand against yours. You thought of his gentle hands brushing hair away from your wound moments before. You thought of him begging you to open your eyes. You thought of him being the first one at your side when you were hurt.
And you thought about Black finding ways to be with you even when you staunchly refused his company. You thought of him taking time out of his day to tell you how ‘smoking hot’ you looked that day, even though he said it every day before that, too.
And you thought about Potter who always held the door for you, saved you a seat even though you never accepted it, showered you in affection even though it was public and quite embarrassing. And you thought of the way he always had a smile to give you, even when you gave him no reason to smile at all.
It wasn’t hard to imagine the three of them caring for anyone, quite frankly. Caring seemed to come second nature to those boys.
“No.” You admitted quietly. “It’s not impossible to believe that you could actually care. It’s just impossible to imagine why.”
He stopped rubbing at your hand and met your eye, seemingly contemplating what to say.
“Let’s get you to Madam Pomfrey.” He opted for. “Pete, let the boys know where I’ve gone when they’re finished with practice?” Lupin called over his shoulder.
“I can walk myself, Lupin.” You grumbled as he helped you up by your elbow.
“Yeah, yeah.” He grumbled back. “You’re not a delicate flower, we know.”
The two of you more or less muttered back and forth to each other the entire way to the infirmary, Lupin supporting more of your weight than he likely needed too but you didn’t feel the need (nor desire) to complain.
Madam Pomfrey was in the middle of looking after a first year Potions class who accidently set off an explosion of incorrectly brewed Cure for Boils which ultimately left each student (and Professor Slughorn) covered head to toe in painful boils.
“Mr. Lupin, if you could clean the wound for me. And Miss. L/N, drink the pain potion. Do not leave until I’ve had a chance to do a proper examination, okay?” She ordered as you positioned yourself more comfortably on the bed after she determined you weren’t about to die (or currently crying, as most of the first years were).
You took the pain potion dutifully and placed it back on the table beside your bed before you startled at the sudden cold wet cloth on your head.
“You are not seriously doing this right now, are you?” You spat.
Remus’ eyebrows drew together as his hands continued on in their task. “You heard the matron; I’m supposed to clean it.”
“I can clean it myself, Lupin; I’ll conjure a mirror.” You argued, causing the scarred boy to scoff.
“I do what I’m told L/N, and quite frankly, the matron scares me more than you do.”
“I must be doing something wrong then.” You sighed, thinking you hadn’t said that loud enough to be heard, but a startled laugh escaped Lupin’s lips.
“Why do you act so volatile?” He asked amusedly.
“It’s not an act.”
“I call bullshit.”
“Well, you call wrong, then, Lupin. I’m an arse and I find everyone exhausting. Deal with it.” You snarked sharply.
Lupin breathed a laugh through his nose. “Maybe we can find out what the hell your problem is over dinner sometime, then.”
Rotten bastard and his smooth talk...
“WHERE IS SHE!?” a voice echoed through the corridor just outside the entrance to the infirmary. Madame Pomfrey needn’t even look up from the boil she was currently draining of puss to know who she was about to scold.
“Mr. Potter, I will have you banned from this infirmary so fast if you raise your voice above so much as a whisper, do not try me. That goes for you too, Mr. Black.” She barked; eyes still focused on the first year’s arm in front of her.
Sure enough, a mop of curly hair, impossibly more wild than usual due to the flight on his broom, poked around the privacy curtains a second before it was joined by a fuming looking Sirius Black.
Potter’s eyes flew to where Remus’ hands were positioned on your head and your stomach lurched at what looked like tears pooling in Potter’s eyes.
“Potter...please, erm, please don’t cry?” You asked awkwardly, leaning away from Remus’ touch as you suddenly became very uncomfortable with this amount of attention.
“She’s alright, Jamie.” Remus sighed, pulling you back over to him gently by the shoulder and continuing his prodding at your wound.
“Who did it?” Sirius spat, arms crossed defensively across his chest and jaw tight as he stared hard at the wound on your head. You were horrified to admit to yourself that he was hot. You’d never really seen it before, how all the girls in your year (and other years) fawned over the long-haired boy.
But he was currently standing in front of you still adorned in his quidditch gear, hair pulled back into a low bun - though he had many fly-aways on account of his recent time in the air - his cheeks still dusted pink from the assertion, and he was currently fuming on your behalf.
Yeah...he was hot.
“Easy.” Remus warned.
“Answer me!” Sirius spat back.
“Pads. I mean it, leave it.” Remus said with finality.
Your eyes darted nervously between the two boys currently staring each other down, but Potter’s eyes were still steadfast on you.
“Let me, Rem.” He finally said gently – the most gently you’d ever heard from the rambunctious boy as he gently moved Remus aside and took over.
“I’m okay, you know.” You offered, not liking how worked up these boys were currently over you.
“I know.” He agreed. “I just hate to see you hurt.”
“Why?”
“Why?”
“Yeah, why.” You pressed. James looked like you just asked him to calculate the distance between the galaxy of Andromeda and our solar system using the measurement of broomsticks.
“I... I don’t want to see you hurt?”
“You want to see Snape hurt.” You countered, causing James’ face to harden.
“Snape’s a tosser.” He muttered darkly.
“I’m not any nicer than Snape.”
“See, Y/N. You’re so smart and lovely and perfect, but you are way off on that front.” James said through a laugh. “Snape is prejudiced, vindictive, and a racist blood supremist. You’re just combative.” He explained, punctuating the word combative with a gentle boop of your nose.
You wanted to break his finger.
But that would be combative, and you would rather die than prove Potter right, so you opted to roll your eyes instead.
“Did they even hang around to see if she fucking survived or did they just take off to avoid detention?” Sirius spat at Remus, not looking any calmer than he did when he arrived.
“They stayed.” You answered tiredly. “They took off afterwards, and not to avoid detention, but to avoid me.”
“And me.” Remus muttered quietly, looking dangerously close to going back out there to find them himself.
“Did you threaten them?” Sirius asked severely, though you weren’t sure who exactly he had asked.
“Yes.” You and Lupin both answered exasperatedly.
Sirius looked between the two of you before letting out a sigh. “Fine, but if I run into them, I’m hexing them into oblivion.”
“Not if I get to them first.” You growled.
Sirius’ face finally softened as he sat on the end of your bed and cautiously touched your ankle under the blankets.
“You sure you’re okay, Y/N?”
And you aren’t sure what did it.
You weren’t sure if it was the softness you saw in Sirius that you were sure you could have never even imagined possible from a person, let alone someone related to the infamous Black family. Or if it was the eyebrows of Remus Lupin that were furrowed in concern as he dutifully watched his boyfriend finish plastering a bandage to your head, or if it was the unbelievable softness of James Potter’s touch – in complete contrast to his fast, rough, bouncing personality that you were usually subjected to.
But dammit, you felt a tear slip down your cheek.
You wiped it away quickly and nodded your head in yes.
You braced yourself for the teasing, the cooing, the dramatic displays of affection. But Sirius quickly stood and disappeared behind the curtains, James began pouring you a glass of water, and Remus reached into his bag for something.
Remus returned to you first, breaking off a square of chocolate for you. “It’ll help.”
You were too embarrassed to argue and took it, popping it into your mouth dutifully.
“Here.” Sirius said as he appeared back at your bedside, handing you a vial.
“What is it?” You asked, your voice taut with emotion.
Sirius’ eyes softened again as he offered you a sad smile. “Calming draught. You can’t have any more pain potion, but this might make you feel better.”
“And if not, maybe you can convince Moony to share more of his chocolate.” James commented with a soft smile.
You grimaced at the taste of the potion and chased it with the water James had poured for you.
“Thank you.” You admitted quietly, shame colouring your tone as you looked to your lap.
“None of that.” Remus said as he handed you another piece of chocolate.
You took it skeptically. “Why do they call you Moony?”
No one said anything for a moment, but you could tell that neither James nor Sirius were moving a muscle as they watched Remus who in turn watched you.
“Because of my lycanthropy.” He said plainly.
You looked at the various scars before you started to laugh. Sirius’ face drained of all colour while James visibly tensed.
“Of course you are. Remus Lupin. Named after a man raised by wolves and the lupus, or wolf constellation. Oh gods, it was predestined, clearly.”
“Are...are you laughing at me right now?” Remus asked incredulously.
“It’s a little funny...no?” You asked back.
He looked as if he were torn between laughing and crying. “I pour my heart out to you – my deepest darkest secret, and you laugh at me?” He asked again, some amusement colouring his features.
“I told you, I’m an arse.” You said with a shrug of your shoulders.
“Does it bother you?” Sirius asked cautiously from the end of your bed, face appearing impassive for all intents and purposes.
“I don’t see why it should, it’s none of my business.”
“It could be.” Remus input.
“You don’t want me. I’m no good, Lupin.” You stressed, looking back down at your hands.
“Neither am I.” Sirius agreed.
“Me neither.” Remus added.
“I’m n-” James started.
“So what if the only one of us worthy of love and affection here is James?” Sirius said, cutting James off. “It’s not going to stop me from cherishing what I can get - deserved or not.”
You groaned and threw your head back onto the pillow, cringing at the effect the fast movement had on you and the pain that the movement elicited in your neck.
“Okay, what about this.” James conciliated. “You don’t have to agree to be with us, just give us a chance? The time of day? One Hogsmeade trip to let us fawn over you.”
You looked up at his deep brown eyes that felt so warm you wanted to make a home in them. Sirius, in all his bravado, looked pained as he waited for an answer, and Remus smiled encouragingly at you.
“Fine!” You acquiesced with a groan. “One Hogsmeade trip.”
Much to your chagrin, though not really at all, it ended up being way more than just one Hogsmeade trip.

James x Reader - After Hours (Auror AU)
A/N - Happy Kinktober y'all horny folks, here's my first submission for this month! xx
Tumblr media
Content Warnings/Kinks: boss/employee relationship, bondage, use of “sir” (authority kink), hair pulling, light choking, bondage, spit, nipple play, cum swallowing/tasting, oral sex (both receiving, unprotected vaginal sex
After Hours
“Sir” Y/n greeted, standing behind her desk as her boss walked into their open office space at the Ministry of Magic, “Lock up anyone bad tonight?”
“Two Death Eaters” James responded, continuing as Y/n’s eyes flitted to the dried blood on his cheek and collar, “It’s nothing bad don’t worry”
“Are you sure?” She fretted, wringing her hands, “I—I could help you clean the wound if you’d like…”
James loosened his tie, making Y/n gulp, “Yes, that’d actually be quite helpful, thank you”
Y/n came toward him after wetting a small napkin with a flick of her wand and a small whisper of a spell,
“Aguamenti”
She placed the wet material onto his cheek, rubbing lightly at the bloody spot, making James wince.
“Sorry!” She exclaimed, cautious of the pain she was causing him.
He grabbed her wrist just as she pulled away before quickly releasing it as if thinking better of himself.
“It’s okay, don’t worry love”
She nodded nervously, then began to clean the small wound again, tracing the light lines of blood that had trickled down his neck, watching his veins pulse. She saw his Adam’s apple bob in his throat as he gulped.
“Done” she affirmed, still standing incredibly close to him, between his spread legs as he leaned back slightly on the desk.
James’ eyes flicked up to meet her lust-filled gaze. She felt self-conscious as if her boss could read her now naughty thoughts.
“James…” she started, turning away embarrassed, heat making her cheeks flush.
He huffed frustratedly before coming closer to her from behind, trapping her from both sides with his muscular arms. His two hands, planted on either side of her body, were gripping the mahogany surface of the desk with force.
“Fuck Y/n, I swear sometimes you know exactly what you’re doing to me”
She turned to face him, looking over her shoulder, her eyes widening in shock.
“I’m—Merlin, I’m sorry Y/n” he then huffed, “I shouldn’t have said anything—”
“Please sir,” she hushed his protests as she leaned closer to him, until they were mere inches apart, “You don’t have to apologize to me”
“Yeah?” He chuckled before groaning, “Fuck love you’re gonna get me in trouble…”
“Maybe trouble is exactly what I want…sir”
He ran his large palm across his mouth while shaking his head, “‘Can’t be fucking the secretary now can I…?”
“Can’t you?” She looked up at him with doe eyes, grinning when she noticed the bulge in his pants,
“Y/n…”
“You’re the boss James…well, you’re certainly the boss of me” she stated plainly, “Now tell me what it is you want”
“You know what I want, you know” he mumbled as his hand caressed her soft cheek, “Get on your knees”
Y/n obeyed, allowing his thumb to flit against her bottom lip as she lowered herself before him, making him groan at the sight. She unzipped his pants, slowly pulling them down, grinning when she finally had access to his freed bulge. James gripped his base, guiding the tip to her pillowy lips. She puckered them instantly, placing light kisses on his tip, then down the sides of his shaft.
“Yes” he groaned at the small contact, “fucking tease me, yes”
Tucking her face below him, she ran the tip of her tongue up his length, making him curse. She did this, licking and kissing him, until he could barely focus on her pretty face, his eyes rolling back into his head.
“Put it in” James begged, placing a steadying hand on her cheek, “Please love”
“You’re begging for it?” Her eyes shone playfully.
“Yes” he gritted out before submitting with a low whisper, “Merlin, I need to be in your mouth”
She placed another soft kiss on his tip, spitting onto his cock, getting it wet before sliding the top half of his considerable length into her mouth.
“Fuck” he gripped his hands in her hair, tugging desperately at the strands.
She bobbed up and down, wetting him more with her tongue as she sucked obediently. “Mmm,” she moaned onto his cock, the vibrations making him twitch in her mouth. Y/n found James felt so good, thrusting in and out of her, that she thought she was enjoying herself perhaps as much as he was. She grabbed his bare thighs, pushing him farther into her mouth, down her open throat. As he groaned with pleasure, she twisted her head with each motion of her mouth, with each slurp, her lips puckering as they spread to accommodate his girth.
“You’re so good love, so fucking good” James praised, his rumbly voice an echo in the silence of the office.
His grip on her hair grew stronger as he got closer and closer to his orgasm. Finally, he came, the white substance coming out of his tip in bursts, squirting down her throat.
“Swallow” he commanded dominantly, one of his hands sliding down to grip her throat.
Her eyes rolled back at the acidic taste, making him groan. She whimpered as she stood, the look of intensity in his eyes practically piercing her.
“I need to taste you now love—fuck, please let me”
“Yes James, yes” she consented quickly.
He practically ripped her blouse off, not caring about the delicate fabric or the pearly buttons. James was acting like a man possessed, like he was made by some god or another for the sole purpose of eating her cunt. Her skirt was next, he unzipped it without even looking to find the zipper at the back, palming her ass for good measure after he slid the material off her.
“So pretty love, so damn beautiful”
His praises continued, tiny murmurs of passion, as he pulled her now naked body to the edge of the desk, attacking her chest down to her cunt with aggressive, wet kisses, stopping to focus on each of her nipples. He sucked on both of them one by one, making her body shiver and need build between her legs.
“James—please” she begged.
“One second love” he then grinned, loosening his tie and unbuttoning his shirt, revealing hardened abs beneath.
She watched him undress in awe, she knew he was fit, having watched him prance around the office in his tight white button-ups and trousers that left little to the imagination, her wild imagination, but nothing could’ve prepared her for the sight of him naked. With his tie in his hands, James curled his fingers slowly, beckoning for her to give him her wrists. When she realized his intentions she quickly obeyed, thrusting her hands forward.
James tied the tie into a tight knot that rubbed against her skin, the slight friction instantly turning her on. He didn’t attach the tie to anything so she was free to move her arms, her hands simply restricted. He lay her down then, pressing her against the wood of the desk, before making his descent lower.
The first long, languid lick of his tongue over her clothed cunt was all Y/n needed to moan loudly.
His eyes widened at her apparent sensitivity, “You’re so pretty when you moan for me love, you know that?”
He pressed his fingers onto the fabric, groaning to himself at the wetness that had already accumulated there.
“So wet” he pushed her panties to the side with one swift motion, leaning down until he fully connected with her cunt, making her whimper.
James began, licking one single stripe up from her hole to her clit. He spread her folds with his strong fingers, kissing both sides before focusing on the place where she was most sensitive. She threw her head back, releasing a low groan at the feeling that was starting to build. The way that James kissed at her clit, flicked at it, licked it, was like nothing she’d ever had done to her before. He was pleasing her as if he knew her body’s every need, could sense exactly what she wanted, could maybe even read her mind for all she knew.
“James” she whimpered, threading her hands in his curls, as much as she could with the restraint, “Merlin, you’re good”
James chuckled, cool air hitting her clit. He pulled back for a second to look right into her eyes, shocking her when he spit, letting the salvia drip down from his mouth and onto her clit. Without breaking eye contact, he reconnected with it, licking upward with teasing motions.
“Arch for me” he commanded, then praising her when she obeyed, “Yes, yes, you’re beautiful, such a good girl”
With her back arched and James’ mouth on her, she moaned and moaned and moaned, her body responding to every single flick of his tongue. He cradled her from underneath, his hand pressing onto her skin where her back lifted from the desk’ hard surface. Shamelessly she begged for more,
“James please”
“What do you want love? Tell me what you need”
“Faster, more, please”
This time it was he who obeyed. James used the full flatness of his tongue to cover the entire area around her clit as he licked up and down, satisfying her completely, making every nerve stand at attention. He transitioned from there, starting to suck on it, more roughly than before. He attached and detached the suction his mouth created, making a popping sound against her wetness.
“Fuck” her back arched even more and as she moved James only pulled her closer, gripped her tighter.
“Cum for me” he ordered between sucking, “I know you’re close love, I want you to cum for me”
She moaned and gasped, the overstimulation making her orgasm come nearer by the second. His moustache tickled her as he continued to push her closer to the edge. Crying out with pleasure, her release finally overcame her body. She shuddered as the feeling pulsed through her like an electric current, centred at the tip of James’ powerful tongue.
“James, James, yes” she groaned through gritted teeth.
She ground her cunt up to meet his tongue as he slowed, chasing every second of her orgasm until it was over, leaving her wanting more, knowing exactly what she needed from him next. When James finally detached from her, his chin covered in her slick, Y/n couldn’t help but pull him towards her, pull him in for a kiss.
“Mmm,” she moaned, tasting her cum on his lips.
“Y/n…” James groaned, his voice a low rumble.
The energy between them immediately shifted, going from hot to even hotter. James tucked loose hair behind her ear, his eyes searching her as if trying to figure out what she wanted next.
“I—Love—“ he started, “I really need to fuck you now”
His hands slid down to her waist, deceptively gentle at first before he lifted her back up onto the desk. He pushed papers, pens, anything and everything that was on the wooden surface, onto the floor in one rough motion. His breathing was heavy when he looked down at her, admiring her naked form lying before him.
“Fuck you’re so beautiful” he practically whined, “Now be a good girl and spread your legs for me”
“Yes sir” she obeyed his command, exposing her slick cunt to him, smiling when she saw his cock twitch in response.
“You’re sure you want it?” He questioned.
Her hands were still restrained, the tight knots of James’ tie tugging at her wrists, making them sore. He untied the bounds, allowing her to run her fingers through his chocolatey brown curls. He paused for a second to kiss her stinging wrists, looking up at her as he did.
“Yes” she kissed him then quickly, sweetly, before whispering, “Yes, yes, yes”
As she whispered her desire to him he slid into her, his forehead pressed up against hers.
“Oh fuck” he cursed as he slid deep within her.
He fit perfectly, his cock curving upward as he started, slowly pounding into her. Y/n lowered her back onto the desk, moaning as she arched for him.
“Lift your hips up for me love” he commanded gently before slipping back into her with more force, “Yea—mm—that’s it”
Her ass was over the edge of the desk, all her extra weight balanced in his palms as she shook with the force of his thrusts.
“James” she cried out, her voice strained.
“Rub it love” he commanded then, “Rub your clit for me”
She spit on her fingers, making James groan at the sight, before sliding them down her body, connecting them with her sore clit. Her pleasure only increased from there, turning her to putty in his hands. He fucked her and fucked her until her hole opened more to accommodate his size and harsh pace.
“Be a good girl for me now, eh love?” he breathed unevenly, as he flipped her so that her front pressed down onto his desk.
He slid back into her quickly causing her eyes to roll back into her head and gasp, “James”
Her toes curled and her legs shook as he began to pound into her again from behind, his cock hitting somewhere deep within her. She moaned loudly, her cunt drenched his cock, but it all only turned James on more, making him fuck her rougher and rougher. His hands gripped her hair tightly, pulling and pulling until her back arched up towards him, almost unnaturally.
“Fuck you take me so well—so fucking good love”
James slammed in and out of her cunt relentlessly, just the way she liked it, filling the air with the lewd sounds of skin slapping against skin, moaning, groaning, and panting. He thrust in and out of her at an almost erratic, feral pace, a series of movements so fast she was seeing stars and the next so torturously slow her legs shook.
Y/n smiled as she came, biting down on her lip trying to keep her moans in, James’ perfect cock and her own rubbing fingers overwhelming her body completely.
“C’mon love” he groaned, pulling her hair, “Let me hear you…I want to hear every pretty little moan you make”
“Fuck…fuck, James” she murmured, groaning, the intense feeling making her mind loose and blissed out.
“Yes, that’s it” he praised as her cunt pulsed around him, sending him over the edge.
He kept thrusting in and out of her, slowly, making her shudder until all her sensitivity was gone. Without pulling out of her James kissed along her shoulder, down her spine, before turning her over and removing himself from her. He groaned at the sight of his cum spilling out of her.
“Looks like I’m the one who needs to clean you up now huh?”

Day Glow
A/n: Oops, I wrote this instead of another chapter of A Plain of Stars, I'm sorry but I'm having a bit of a block right now. Anyway, in the mean time have this Drabble with old boy James. I thought it was cute, definitely a good piece to hopefully rebuild some confidence in myself and get back to writing the real stuff. Hope you enjoy.
(I listened to 'Oh My Love' by John Lennon and 'Here Comes Your Man' by The Pixies while writing this)

Day Glow
The stunning glow that bathes a room in the early morning.
That’s what it felt like, if anyone asked you that’s what you’d say. First light.
First light after a hot sticky night, one where your covers don’t lay right and you don’t find a comfortable place to set your arms. That soft morning glow accompanied by singing burns and long, languid stretches. The feeling of that first sip of water hitting your throat after not allowing yourself respite from the cottony feeling at the back of your pallet. Fresh clothes, a hot shower, a hairbrush.
That’s what it felt like to fall in love with James, a breath of fresh air and the feeling of sun on your skin. He was bright and bursting with it, and all too happy to bathe you in the same incandescence.
He never second guessed it, the pull he felt to you. He saw you that day; head hung low over a book, hair falling into your eyes as you fell deeper into the word on those ink soaked pages. Maybe it was the look in your eyes or the way the pale blue shirt you were wearing seemed to bring out all the right colors in you. It didn’t matter, he was taken with you and James was never one to let something go so easily.
He was capable of learning, and as such took a gentle approach to coaxing you out of your shell and into his awaiting arms. First a request for help on his homework, then sitting next to you in class, for academic reasons of course. He’d ask little questions about your books and your family, nodding in rapt interest, eyes glued to the captivating way your lips formed the words.
He could only be so subtle, it was never his specialty but he’s giving it his all. That’s what made give him the time of day, anyone could see how hard he was trying to be someone you might spend your time on.
During a particularly chilling trip to Hogsmeade you found yourself toe to toe with your biggest fan. Stumbling none too elegantly into one another with the grace of a baby elephant confronted with a large mouse. You stared up at him, making up for all his forced subtlety with a brasen gape. His nose and cheeks were tipped pink and his wild hair stuck up in that frustratingly sleep tousled way that had you longing to card your fingers through it. One corner of his rosie pink lips quirked up in boyish smirk, you knew you were a goner, but you hadn’t guessed it’d be this bad.
That was the beginning of a short road to a long honeymoon phase, one that faded into a comfortable relationship which continues to feel like the first peaks of the sun through your apartment windows. The very windows that made you and James choose this apartment over the one closer to London, they were french panes and you loved them almost as much as the boy sleeping next to.
You roll over, taring your gaze away from the windows to face James’ sleeping face. Your  hand moves of its own accord to make the very movement you longed to all those years ago in front of Honeydukes. His black curls only fluffed into a larger mess as you ran your finger through them, scratching lightly at his scalp as he leaned into your hand. He may be a stag at heart, but he always reminded you of a saint bernard. Pretty boy that he is.
You think you could lay here forever, basking in the morning dew of the life the two of you created for yourself. All the Love you poured into one another and all the twists and turns you’d put your hearts through now wrapped in a thick layer of soft amour, which consist of nothing but the thought of coming home to one another at the end of it all. The constant knowledge that no matter what, first light will break and day glow will cover your world once again.

Yandere Draco Malfoy (5/5)
Tumblr media
Word count ; 4.9k
*Edited.
*Changed the ending. Sorry not sorry, smile.
Bill and Fleur had opened their doors to us. It was quite kind. My mission had changed, though; I was concerned for Draco’s safety, especially now that his wand was in my possession. Harry had gifted it to me and told me that my help was needed elsewhere.
That ‘elsewhere’ being Hogwarts. I was needed as a spy to keep watch on Hogwarts and the changing tides as Harry, Ron, and Hermione tried to do whatever they were doing. To be honest, I wasn’t sure. All I knew was that it was gong to save the day.
So, here I was, sitting next to Harry on the bed. I was going to head off, but only if Draco’s wand was suitable for my use. Harry and I were holding hands tensely as Mr. Olivander held the wand carefully. He had remorse wracking his entire bodice.
“Hawthorn. Unicorn hair. Ten inches. Reasonably plied.” He suddenly held it up to his ear, as though listening to the wand. “This was the wand of Draco Malfoy.”
“Was?” I prodded. “Is it not still?”
“Well, perhaps not. You won it from him. The wand speaks of your importance to the boy. I sense his allegiance is not only toward the boy, but with you.”
He ands it over to me again. I took it gently, stroking the wood while deep in thought. It’s allegiance was with me. Because Draco and I were in love. At least… I hoped he still loved me after my betrayal.
“You… talk about wands as if they have feelings,” Harry mentioned. “As if they can think.”
Mr. Olivander had a smile grow on his face as he leaned over to us. “The wand chooses the wizard Mr. Potter. That much has always been clear to us who study wand lore.”
“Fascinating,” I chimed in.
“And… what do you know about the Dealthy Hollows?”
Mr. Olivander’s expression grew stoney. “It is rumored there are three. The Elder Wand, the Cloak of Invisibility - to hide you from your enemies, and the Resurrection Stone - to bring back loved ones from the dead. Together, they make one the master of death. But few truly believe that such things exist —“
“Do you? Do you believe they exist?”
“Well, I see no reason to put thought into such an old wive’s tale.”
“You’re lying. You know one exists. You’ve told him about it. You’ve told him about the Elder Wand. And, well, he went looking for it.”
“He tortured me…” Mr. Olivander caved. “Besides… there’s only conveyed rumors. There’s no telling that he can find it.”
“But he has found it, hasn’t he?”
Silence, but only for a brief moment. Mr. Olivander looked regretful. Harry had learned what he came here to learn. He beckoned me with him. “We’ll let you rest,” I concluded, sending the man a reassuring smile.
The four of us exited the room. The moment the door closed, I turned to Harry. ”I know you have the cloak of Invisibility. That means that you know the Deathly Hollows is true. Does that mean you plan on finding the Resurrection Stone?”
“Yes. Which is why we need you to wait at Hogwarts for us to return. We need eyes everywhere. He has made it clear that the final battle will take place there,” Harry conceded.
I nodded. “But what about… the Death Eaters?”
“I have a feeling that Malfoy and his wand will watch out for you. But, regardless, you will navigate Hogwarts with my Invisibility Cloak. You should be able to travel undetected. The Gryffindor common room password is…”
~~~
Hogwarts was going to absolute hell. The battle had begun, and my peers were in the middle of it. I had not seen the sun is so very long. Death Eaters were swarming the building. Half of the building was up in flames. I was terrified. But I knew that I played too important of a part to let it affect me.
I had finally met up with the golden trio. We were standing outside of the Room of Requirement as the war raged on outside. We were safe for the moment; but I had an inkling it wouldn’t last long.
“Snape knows you’re here,” I hissed as Harry and I hovered outside the Room of Requirement. I had taken off the Cloak of Invisibility and handed it to Harry.
“Do the Death Eaters know you’re here?” Harry inquired in concern.
I shook my head. “No. I managed to sneak in successfully. The only people that do are the fellow students, who previously took refuge in the Room of Requirement. I helped sneak food in for the time being, but they were recently found out.”
Harry nodded in approval. “Good job. I knew you could do it.”
“What are we doing here, though?” I asked.
“I need to find the diadem so that I can find my connection with him again. It’s gotten to weak. I can’t sense him at all, but I need to know what he's planning next,” Harry explain.ed
“Understood. No reason to beat around the bush, then. Let’s go,” I conceded.
Harry opened the Room of Requirement, grabbing my hand for reassurance. My hand went to my waist, where Draco’s wand remained. I heard the roars and screams of terrified students down the hall. We didn’t have much longer. The rocks began to move as it opened itself to us.
Inside the room, was piles up the ceiling of food, books, and other magical relics. The room was dark, having nothing but the light of our wands to help is see. Certain relics sparked and shone, but not enough for us to truly take everything in.
“Lumos,” I cast. The rusted chandelier on the high ceiling lit up. It was dim from constant use and creaked from small breezes.
We began surveying the rows of items. There were pillars upon pillars. I made sure to leave a trail of sparks so that we did not lose our way. “We’re never going to find the diadem with the state of this place,” I complained.
“We have to. What’s going on right now is just a distraction fro what he’s really planning,” Harry insisted.
So, we kept searching the rows. Harry seemed to know the specifics of what we were looking for, which was lovely, since I had no idea what to look for. Harry sudden halted. I bumped into him as he turned. His eyes were fixated on a pile of ropes. His pace was slow as he lifted the ropes off, only to reveal a wooden box.
I watched as he opened it. Inside was a raven tiara with a blue gem in the center. It was indeed the diadem.
Gently, Harry picked it up. It was whispering to him. I was just as entranced by the tiara —
“Well, well.”
I jumped and took out my wand, quickly realizing I was pointing it at none other than Draco. Out of pure shock, I accidentally dropped my wand. Harry protectively stood in front of me. Even if the darkness, I could see that Draco was angry. Furious, even. His handsome features were curled into a snide snark.
Draco, Goyle, and Blaise walked closer toward us, their wands out. “What brings you here, Potter?”
“I could ask you the same.”
Draco’s eyes flickered over to me. “You have some things of mine. I’d like them back. Y/n, get over here and return my wand. Now.”
“What wrong with the one you have?”
Draco narrowed his eyes. “It’s my mother’s. It’s powerful, but it’s… not the same. It doesn’t quite… understand me. Know what I mean?”
I decided to step around Harry. I still had the wand pointed toward Draco. Harry let me shield him, although his hand soundly resided on my waist. He was nervous; Harry only touched me when we was in a negative mindset.
“Draco, let’s stop this nonsense,” I pleaded. “You don’t have to turn us in. I know you aren’t the villain you are forced to be.”
He sneered, his glare residing on the hand on my waist. Realizing, I swatted Harry’s hand away. “I’m doing what’s needed to protect you. Even you’re too much of a bloody idiot to realize what’s good for you. And clearly Potter’s too much of a bastard to keep his hands off what’s mine to begin with.”
“She’s her own person!” Harry barked, but I stomped my foot on his toes to shut him up.
“You think I don’t know that?” Draco roared. “Potter, I’ve always hated you from the day we first met. I knew from the bottom of my heart that you would ruin me. And here you are, stealing the woman I love. There’s nothing I want more than to turn you in to the Dark Lord himself —“
“Draco, I love you!” I shrieked. Panic washed over me. Fear. “Harry and I are friends! We’re working together to stop the Dark Lord! You’ve truly gotten it all wrong. Can’t we just talk?”
His face softened, but only for a moment. His glare was seemingly looking through me. “That may be what you think, love. But I know Potter better than you. He’s trying to take you away form me. He already has once. He’s been after you rom the day he met you —“
“I’m with Ginny —“ Harry attempted to interrupt.
“Silence!” Draco roared. His entire body was shaking with fury. “You took the only good thing in my life away from me when I needed her most. You’re to blame for everything that’s happening now. I wish you just let yourself die with your parents.”
Goyle inched up behind him. “Go on, Draco. Do it. Don’t be a coward,” he whispered in his ear.
There was no doubt in my mind at that moment. The Draco who I loved was not present. I knew he was on the verge of casting a spell. There was no more talking to be done.
“Expelliarmus!” I cried.
Draco dodged the spell, jumping front of Goyle. Instead, Blaise was hit. Immediately, the boy turned tail and fled the scene. Harry made a run for the tiara while I shot more spells toward the duo.
“Avadao Kadavra!” Draco howled, shooting the spell at Harry.
I screamed, trying my best to defend him from the spell. Tears of panic slid down my cheeks as I could do nothing but watch. Harry was in the process of picking up the tiara. I was about to scream again, but instead of hitting Harry, it reflected off the tiara and sent it flying out of his hands. I noticed it went all the way to the top of the pile.
“Stupefy!” Draco cast toward me.
I blocked the spell and cast a Stupefy right back at him. Both of our attention was keen on one another, which allowed Harry to ascend the pile of junk while Goyle tried shooting him. I wanted to target Goyle for Harry's sake, but Draco suddenly shouted,” Goyle, we have to regroup!”
They took off, Draco barely dodging my spell. I figured they were too scared, but I was still on guard. Instead, I began climbing up the pile with Harry, searching through to find the tiara. Each time I grabbed inside, it wasn't what we were looking for. Instead, I pulled out several imps and pixies.
“I found it!" Harry yelled from the top of the pile.
“Good!” I replied, letting my body slide down the filth-covered junk. We regrouped at the bottom, dusting one another off.
“There's no way he's not coming back," Harry panted.
“I know," I agreed. "But Blaise needs his wand first.” We paused for a moment. However, from a distance, we heard a roar. “Oh no.” I shoved Draco’s wand into Harry’s grasp. “You need this more than I do, Harry. Draco’s not intending to kill me.”
Harry accepted it in the knick of time. Rounding the corner was a large dragon made of fire. Its roar echoed in the corridor. Harry grabbed my wrist and we broke into a run. My calves burned as we dashed around corners. We were fast from constantly having to save our arses, but not fast enough. The dragon was rapidly gaining on us. Over the roars, I could hear Draco’s manic, snide cackles.
Magic fire flooded the Room of Requirement, hot on our tails. Harry suddenly slowed, training the wand on a pile and send it in the way of the fire. That gave us a few extra seconds, but an explosion sounded behind us. Junk flew at us, and we narrowly dodged it.
We ended up circling right into Draco. He looked furious as he focused on fueling the dragon. When he saw us approaching, he attempted to stop the spell. However, fire continued to spew from the tip. Harry weaved around them, but I slowed enough to grab Draco's wrist. I tore the wand away from him and tossed it into the oncoming fire. We took off, Draco’s furry dissolving into pure terror.
We rounded the corner into a complete dead end. Blaise and Goyle were right behind us. I released Draco and began climbing the rubble. The boys followed suit. I could only pray that Harry was not being reduced into an ashen mush.
We continued to climb the pile. But suddenly, Goyle grabbed onto a loose chair. I screamed as the boy fell into the pit of raging fire. I made it to the top with Draco and Blaise. To our luck, there were two broomsticks on the top. Draco fell off, but I caught his wrist. I pulled him up as Blaise saddled up and zipped away on one.
Draco and I took the other broom. We escaped the fire in time, leaving the roaring dragon out of reach. Luckily, Harry had also grabbed a broom. The four of us zoomed near the ceiling.
“Harry! Where's the exit?” I shouted.
“Just follow me!”
The junk was collapsing around us. I weaved the broomstick, completely in control, and Draco clutched me close by the waist. I could feel his tears streaming down my neck. Harry shot a spell to move a wave of fire out of the way. The exit was finally in view. We finally maneuvered through the door, our brooms colliding with the ground.
I let out a yelp of pain as my body went rolling across the ground. My head hit a stone column, causing my ears to ring and my head to spin. A wave of nausea washed over me as I curled in on myself, pressing my knees to my chest. Sobs escaped as I clawed at the hard ground. I felt something wet dripping down the back of my head.
I forced my eyes to open. Draco clawed his way over to me, and I almost threw up right then and there when he grabbed my body and pulled me to his chest. I curled my head into his beck, peering over his shoulder. I saw that Blaise had completely abandoned us, and Harry was planning to. He held Draco's wand and the tiara still.
I knew he was contemplating saving me. But I was with Draco, so I knew I would be fine. So, I mustered a reassuring smile. He nodded my way before grabbing the Cloak of Invisibility from outside the entrance and disappeared from sight.
“Episky,” Draco cast shakily.
All my pain slowly vanished as I felt magic flowing through my veins. I gulped down my saliva and mustered a dry chuckle. “We should have just talked it out.”
Draco suddenly broke down completely, sobs echoing in the hall. I felt much better and pulled away from him just enough so I could cup his cheeks. I wiped away his tears. I kept wiping them, placing a chaste kiss on his forehead. I hushed him gently, letting him cry.
As he quieted down, I placed a kiss on his lips. He kissed back greedily, pulling me into him once more. Our heaving chests pressed against one another and I wrapped my arms around his neck. Once we pulled away from one another, he exhaled.
“I’m so sorry,” he rasped.
“I forgive you, Draco. You know how much I love you. I just… wish you could do the right thing, love.”
He leaned his forehead against mine. Shame swept over his handsome, tired features. “I wish I could, love. But all I can do is what’s best for you.”
~~~
I could do nothing but sob into Draco’s chest. The moment we saw Voldemort and the hoard of Death Eaters sauntering across the bridge, I knew what that meant. I knew Harry had to be dead.
Draco and I had gathered in the courtyard with some of the other students. They had insisted on throwing him in the dungeon, but I talked them out of it. A part of me wish we’d gone back inside, because knowing that Harry was dead was the same as knowing that it was all over. That Voldemort had won.
Neville and other Gryffindor students emerged from the rubble. I paid him no heed, though, as my gaze on the sight could not be repressed.
Voldemort was but a few feet from us. I was not afraid, even though he was holding the Elder Wand in his clutches. I could never be afraid, so long as Draco was with me. I had become numb to the chaos. All I focused on was him.
Nagini, his pet snake was accompanying the Dark Lord. Voldemort looked oh-so smug. As though he was the ruler of the world. Probably because now, he knew he could be. I almost lost it once more as I realize that Hagrid had Harry’s corpse in his clutches. He was dead and unmoving.
“Harry Potter… is dead!” Voldemort cried, raising his hands into the air. Ginny suddenly screamed, trying to run toward Harry. Voldemort cast a spell toward Ginny, sending her flying back into Ron and Hermione. “Silence! Stupid girl… Harry Potter is dead.” He began strolling toward her. I was shaking in my boots, fearing for the worst. “From this day forward, you put your faith in me.”
Silence fell over the courtyard. “Harry Potter is dead!” he cheered once more. The Death Eaters erupted in cruel laughter and claps. Voldemort looked jubilant.
I wrapped my arms around Draco’s torso. My lips quivered, and I tried to compose myself. Draco petted my hair, hushing me. I could tell he was terrified.
Voldemort held out his arms toward the Hogwarts students. “And now is the time to declare yourselves with us. Or not.”
Lucius suddenly called for Draco, beckoning him forward. Draco nudged me, steeling his expression. He pushed me aside and walked toward Voldemort. I followed him. I would always follow him. I knew that the Hogwarts students thought less of me as I did so. But I did not care. Draco was what was important now that Harry was dead.
Voldemort looked pleased as we emerged from the crowd. He opened his arms wide to us. Draco grabbed my hand. His entire body was shaking.
“Ah! Well done, Draco, Y/n. Well done.” He enveloped us both in a cold, loose hug, his scales hands patting our backs. “I have something to return to you, young Y/n.” From his pocket, he withdrew my wand.
I nodded my head as thanks. Draco tugged me over to the Death Eaters. Lucius pulled us over. Narcissa wrapped her arms around my shoulders and held me close. Some tears escaped. Draco wiped them away carefully.
Neville began hobbling forward. Voldemort rudely remarked,” Well, I must say, I was hoping for better.” The crowd erupted in laughter. But not us. “And who might you be, young man?”
“Neville Longbottom.”
More laughter. I covered my ears with my hands. Narcissa shushed and cradled me.
“Well, Neville, I’m sure we can find a place for you in our ranks.”
“I’d like to say something,” he exclaimed.
I noticed how tense Voldemort became. “Well, Neville, I’m sure we’d all be fascinated to hear what you have to say.”
“Doesn’t matter that Harry’s gone. People die here every day! Friends, family… Yeah. We lost harry tonight. But he’s still with us. In here!” He motioned to his heart. I noticed that Voldemort had raised his wand. “So is Fred. Remus. Tonks. All of them. They didn’t die in vain.” He bravely turned to Voldemort. “But you will. Because you’re wrong! Harry’s heart does beat for us! For all of us! It’s not over!”
He unsheathed a sword. Suddenly, Harry’s corpse fell on the ground. But then I realized - it was no corpse. He truly was alive. He was resurrected!
I realized that Voldemort was about to cast a spell on Harry. “Stupefy!” I shrieked, stunning Voldemort. I departed from the crowd, a surge of confidence and bravery blossoming in my bosom. I had to do it. For Harry. For Draco.
Harry stunned Voldemort again. He took off, disappearing behind the courtyard columns. Voldemort moaned in aggravation. Voldemort sent one spell his way; a wave of fire and smoke. However, he veered toward me.
The world around me seemed to slow.
“Avada…
“Kadavra!” he bellowed.
I tried my best to refute it, but it was about to hit me. It was oh-so close. I was going to die.
It was as though my life flashed before my eyes. So many good memories. With friends. With family. With Draco, the love of my life. I let out a scream of terror as my wand clattered to the ground. A large weight fell on me. I thought that it was weight of my heart dropping dead.
My head hurt. My body ached. Something was on top of me.
Screams and battle roars erupted. But, the weight was suddenly pushed off me. I opened my eyes. Nothing had happened.
Nothing had happened.
I scrambled to my hands and knees. As I connected the dots, from scrapes on my knees to Draco’s limp body. I realized. I screamed. Oh, but the screaming was not enough. I pulled his head onto lap, slapping and twisting his head every which way in hopes he would wake up.
The war was raging around me. I knew we were winning the war. But I did not care. He was dead. I had killed him. I was the reason he was dead. Because I felt the need to be brave, when all I was supposed to do was watch from the sidelines.
Narcissa collapsed beside me, clutching her boy’s hands. She was sobbing so loudly as Lucius cradled her. I could not tell if I was crying. My mouth was open, but I did not know if anything was coming out.
“Please,” I squeaked. “Please wake up!” I continued shaking his body. “Please, Draco, please…”
Narcissa moved to me and held me in her arms. I sobbed into her cloak, the sheer agony unbearable. I noticed Narcissa grab my wand from beside her. I looked up at her crying eyes as she held the wand to my head.
“Bewitching somnum.”
~~~
The Hogwarts train at nine-and-three-quarters was finally pulling up. It horn tooted loudly. My children, two boys and two girls, were saddled up excitedly, some more than others. My husband was beside me, arm wrapped around my shoulders despite the height difference.
I smiled, sending George a loving wink. Our eldest daughter, Molly, was off to the side, leaning against the cart. She was rather bored, since she knew the runaround by now. She was a fifth year student. She inherited the Weasleys’ red-haired genes.
The next eldest daughter, Luna, also had red hair. She was still in the honeymoon phase with Hogwart, a third year getting ready to join the Quidditch team. She was sprite and athletic, bursting with energy at every finger tip. She inherited some of her father’s playfulness, too.
Right in the middle was Fred. Once again, he had the red hair genetics, but I could often tell from George’s mournful glances that even to this day, he saw the growing resemblance between him and his long, lost brother. Fred was going into his second year.
Last, starting up at Hogwarts this year, was Scorpius. Draco, as long ago as it was we were together, always thought it was a splendid name. And although I wasn’t as outright obvious with my mourning, I wanted something to remember him by. Scorpius was a shy boy. But what sparkled about him was his thin, blonde hair. Somehow, he broke the Weasley mold.
He looked so very like Draco.
I separated from my husband and leaned over to give Scorpius one last hug and kiss on the forehead. He giggled, saying I was embarrassing him. The train doors opened and students flooded to enter.
George and I bid our children ado. It was lighthearted, as the children were either excited for new possibilities or to meet up with their friends. And although I was the stricter parent out of the two of us - shocker -, I knew better than to keep my kids waiting.
I felt something warm grab my hand. I grinned gently, intertwining my fingers with George’s. I leaned against his shoulder. We watched as our kids disappeared from view, but akin to the other parents, we were waiting to see the train off.
The Battle of Hogwarts was over a decade ago now. And yet, although we never spoke of it, it weighed heavy on our minds to this day. We both knew it. George saw his brother in Fred. And I saw Draco in Scorpius.
George and I had fallen for one another. We were still mourning our losses, but we bonded over shared memories. I had some of Fred, of how he used to shamelessly flirt with me. And although George never had a positive impression of Draco, he was just as respectful. Perhaps the tie it was out of disparity, but not even a year after the incident, we married and set up a magical prank shop. A year after that, the kids started coming. And in between all of that, we truly had fallen in love with each other.
Sometimes I felt bad for still thinking of Draco. Because I truly loved George. And yet, I was always left wondering about the ‘what if’s. The what if of a family with him. A lifetime of the happiness he deserved but never received.
But I was over it now. Mostly. I had a happy family, a loving husband, incredible in-laws, and friendships that have lasted a long time. It was good now. And I’m sure Draco was, too.
Tumblr media
James was incorrigible. The minute he felt you collapse against his back, it was as if his fight with Sirius had never occurred. “Hey, who the hell-” he spun around just in time to see you wobble, calling his name weakly, before melting into his hands like soft dough. Seeing his friend in distress, Remus peeled you from James’ tightening grip, leading you over to a couch. You curled up against the couch’s arm, swaying as you struggled to stay awake. It was a pointless fight.
“What- what is this? What’s going on?” James was panicking, hands coming to tug harshly on his hair. He had decided not to drink tonight, knowing you’d be there and wanting to make a good impression. He’d sworn to stay by your side and keep you safe, to make sure you had a good time. Fuck, he even made sure not to pour you too strong of a drink. The only reason he’d left you—and he had only meant to be gone for a few minutes at most—was to make sure there wouldn’t be anybody at the party who could ruin your night. By leaving you alone, had he been the one to do just that?
“Move! Out of my way!” Marlene could be heard shoving through a wall of Regulus’ Slytherin friends, meeting you by the couch, and practically forcing Remus off. “Don’t touch her.”
Lily and Dorcas were by your side almost instantaneously. The three of them formed a semblance of a triangle—Marlene brushed your hair, standing over your left shoulder, Lily was perched on the couch cushion next to you, and Dorcas leaned on the same arm of the couch you were laying against. The four of you had never been to a house party without each other. None of you had ever come across something like this.
“Who do you think did this? Was it bloody Snivellus? I’ll kedavra him, I swear-” Marlene sneered, feeling around the back of her trousers for the wand in her pocket.
“Sev wouldn’t- Severus wouldn’t do something like this. I get it, he’s horrid, but he’s not completely evil.” Lily admitted, still wary of jumping to conclusions.
“You don’t think it was one of those Slytherin blokes, do you?” Dorcas whispered, eyes narrowing at the group of boys near Regulus, the same ones Marlene had pushed to get to you.
“As much as I’d love an excuse to beat up some blood purists, they’ve been with Regulus all night. Pretty sure she was fine before she left. Does anyone even know where she went?”
“Are you sure? Because that one in the gray looks awfully-”
Regulus looked worried as he made his way to James’ side, arms crossed stoically. James hadn’t stopped pacing since he’d seen you. He hadn’t done anything much else, really, but mumble to himself and tug at his face, as if trying to pull himself out of the expanse of his own guilty thoughts.
“Oi, mate. Your girlfriend isn’t gonna get any better if you just mope around like a boneless chicken wing. She’s quite literally there, y’know? Just- do whatever you Gryffindors do. Valor, ‘n shit.” Regulus’ eyes, despite his tone, shone with concern as he slapped James on the back. “We’re gonna head out. Let us know if you need anything.” James assumed he meant his Slytherin posse, which trailed behind the younger Black as the ensemble of well-groomed boys retreated out the portrait hole.
“She’s not my-” James caught himself. Merlin, all he could think about was making you his, when you were passed out on a couch in front of him. What a bastard. What an absolute arsehole he was, James Potter.
You coughed, mouth pulling into a downward smile as you tried to look at one of the three doting faces hovering around you. “Hey,” you croaked.
“Good heavens, I’m not sure if I want to kiss you or kill you,” Lily gasped, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. “I’m so glad you’re awake,” she looked around at your roommates. “We didn’t know what to do.”
At the sound of your voice, James practically flung himself at your feet, groveling.
“Oh thank Merlin, you’re okay. Are you okay?” He took both your hands, slightly cold, into his bigger, warmer ones, bringing them up to his mouth. He contemplated kissing them but settled for blowing warm air between your palms and helping you rub your hands together. “You’re okay, right? You’re gonna be okay.” He sniffed, eyes stormy as he tried to read your mind.
“I’m,” you wanted to laugh. You couldn’t remember how you had come to be in the center of a crowd of your worried friends, having James Potter at his knees for you. “Why are you all so,” you wheezed, trying to clear the phlegm out of your throat, “jittery?”
“I’m worried about you, love.” Your heart grew at the sound of his nickname for you rolling so easily from his lips. “You’re not- c’mon, humor me here.” Lily looked at him skeptically but she still shifted down so James could take the spot right next to you. His forehead was wrinkled and you wanted nothing more than to smooth out the lines with your thumb, but you couldn’t breathe with his face so close, his eyes boring into yours searching for some semblance of an answer.
“I really don’t remember anything,” you laughed uneasily, knowing that there had to be something amiss. The party was still going strong; perhaps the flashing lights and loud music were making you confused?
Lily, Marlene, and Dorcas looked at each other knowingly. The boys might not’ve caught on, but that looming threat was a reality of your lives that the three of them had finally been forced to put a name to. “You left for a bit,” Dorcas said hesitantly, “after James left. Where did you go?”
At the sound of his name, James tensed and pulled you into him a little closer. You relished the feeling. His fingers wrapped around your waist just as they had at the beginning of the night, tapping lightly at the indent between your ribcage and your hip absentmindedly. You shivered.
“Got a drink,” you recalled. “James gave me Otter’s. Wanted more.” You smiled imperceptibly, remembering the taste of the sweet orange-vanilla drink on your tongue. “They didn’t have more.” You frowned a bit when you remembered that.
When nobody spoke, and James continued to look at you with those doe eyes of his, you took that as your cue to continue. His hand squeezed yours reassuringly as you adjusted yourself in his lap. “Uh, they were out. I can’t-” you closed your eyes tightly, digging as far as you could for the memories of the hour. “You helped me, James. I hate grapes.” You buried your face into his shoulder, where he could feel your lips curling into a smile. “Worst flavor.”
Your friends looked at James suspiciously. His heart dropped. What did you mean, “he helped you?” He hadn’t seen you since the beginning o the party! “I swear, I didn’t-”
“Whatever, James. We’ll deal with your shit after.” Marlene held a hand up. Lupin and Sirius looked between the two parties, unsure of where to stand or what to do.
“Yeah, you helped me, James. Got me gigglewater. It worked!” You hiccuped. “Was fun… I like spending time with you, Jamie. Sometimes I pretend I don’t, but I do.” It was everything James had ever wanted to hear. Not only did you like spending time with him, but all those times you had supposedly hated him hadn’t been real. It didn’t make him feel any better though; if anything, worse. You had trusted him and he had let you down.
“Gigglewater…” you giggled. Your friends looked at you with another wave of doubt.
“Did James-” Sirius began before James sent him a hard kick to the ankle. “Did you see anyone after?” You nodded absently.
“Yeah, these guys. A Slytherin, some Huffles… Ravenclaws… but not as funny as you, Sirius.” You laughed again at that too, though nobody laughed with you. (It kind of hurt your feelings.)
Dorcas’s lip curled. “Fucking Slytherins…”
“James is nice. Gave me his jacket.” You wrapped your arms around the real James, your hands gliding across his back as you looked for the jacket you had been sleeping under.
“James never worse a jacket tonight,” Remus said, puzzled.
“S’okay! He’s a wizard.’ You grinned as if you had solved all the world’s secrets. “Nice guy. Gave me a hug. He hugged me. A hug. A hug…” A violent wave of tremors overtook you as things started returning to you.
“No! Get off me! Stop touching me, you pervert! Go!” You came to your senses, shoving yourself off of James with as much force as you could muster and crawling away from him, almost throwing yourself into Remus’ arms. Lily, Marlene, and Dorcas looked murderous.
“Potter, want to tell me what the fuck is going on?” Lily’s wand was out, held right under James’ chin. Sirius grabbed her free arm, but she shook him off. “You heard her! She said it was Potter! You- what did you do?”
“Lily! It’s James! You know, the same stupid James with the stupid hair! He’d never- you know he wouldn’t!” Nobody would say the words. Nobody would say them because saying them made it real. You almost wish somebody would say it. None of this felt real. “You know he’d never do that. He’s even stopped with Snivellus.” Lily went limp at the sound of her ex-friend’s name, angry tears collecting in her waterline.
“Explain! Somebody, explain.” Marlene held up a hand, the other clutching Dorcas’ for support with such strength that both their knuckles were pale. Remus still held you to his chest, his hand cupping the back of your head with your eyes staining his shirt; one of the few nice shirts he had. You felt horrible. James watched as Remus consoled you. That should be me. Holding you, making sure you’re okay. Instead, I’m the one who hurt you. And I’m the one who keeps wishing for things even when I’ve done something wrong.
“I swear, I didn’t touch her. I didn’t pour her anything except for the Otter’s; I swear, I would’ve never given her gigglewater, you have to believe me. I was just yelling at Sirius for not keeping an eye on her, I’m fully aware she doesn’t take to strong alcohol well, and I’d never-” James gasped, tears forming in his eyes. He wiped them away with his sleeve stubbornly. “I’d never do anything like that to her. Or to anyone. Fuck, all I’ve ever wanted to do was protect her.” His voice was wavering now, and catching sight of you stirring in Remus’ arms, he stopped his frantic pacing and dropped down to his knees in front of you. “Please, Remus, let me see her.”
The girls eyed him warily, eyes glancing up to you to gauge your reaction.
“James?” You murmured. “James, ‘s that you?” James didn’t move until your hand stretched out, uncoordinated, running through the air to try and touch his face. Your vision was still blurry, and he had to reach out to take your hand so that you could find him. He flinched as his hand made contact with yours, terrified that you’d panic.
“It’s me, darling. It’s James, I’m here,” he cooed, sniffing and trying to hold his composure in front of the common room. “Are you okay? No, that’s stupid, you’re not…” He shook his head to regain his thoughts. “What’s going on, love? Can you talk to me?”
“James, c’mere.” You held your arms out. “I’m not scared of you James. Made a mistake. He looked a lot like you, y’nno. ‘S why I trusted him so much. I trust you, James.” Your hands grabbed for him, fisting the soft fabric of his jumper and pulling him closer with a weak grip. “Please, can you just hold me?”
James’ face burned as he felt the stares of your friends on him. Lily’s eyes were trained on him with such intensity that he thought, if Lily had learned to do wandless magic, his hair would’ve been on fire by now. Remus shifted out of the way as James came closer, transferring the weight of your body over to the other boy. As soon as James’ arms were around you, you buried your head into the warmth of his chest. He looked down at you, gravity pulling the accumulated tears from his eyes. The two of you stayed in each others’ embraces for a while; you savored the safety that came with James’ familiar touch. Your friends were whispering as they watched, and eventually, Sirius, Peter, and Remus decided that they’d best leave the two of you alone.
“Want us to wrap up the party, Prongs?” Peter asked gently, not commenting on his friend’s emotional state. James nodded, and Peter trod off solemnly, beginning to usher the crowd out of the portrait hole. Remus began cleaning up trash and Sirius headed towards the drinks.
“I’m gonna go help.” Marlene muttered, making her way over to Sirius. Dorcas shot Lily a concerned look before taking the opposite side of the room as Remus, waving her wand to skillfully float crumpled napkins and cups from off the ground.
Lily didn’t budge. She squinted at James apprehensively as he caught her eye, and he sighed deeply. “Lily, I get it. ‘M probably not the most trustworthy person to you, but I swear, I’d rather be strangled by the giant squid before I let anything happen to her. And if you want me to go, I can go. But… please, Lily.” His voice was small, and there was a lingering sentiment in the air that James couldn’t quite voice. Lily seemed to understand because she gave him a curt nod and harsh sniff before turning on her heel to meet Dorcas.
Now, it was just you and James curled up in the corner of a plush couch. Your head would occasionally jerk up as you tried to stay awake, your grip on James’ jumper faltering as you began to doze off.
“No, you have to stay with me, okay? I need you to tell me what’s going on before you forget. C’mon, I need you to stay awake, yeah?” James shook you gently, studying your face. There was a dopey smile across your lips, one that unnerved him as it contrasted with the terror of the situation. Your eyelids were fluttering and your eyelashes, coated so carefully in mascara from the beginning of the night, had rubbed off and was smudged underneath your eyes. Your nose was tinged with red and your skin felt clammy, but still, you looked up at him with an adoration in your eyes that made his stomach twist with guilt. He didn’t deserve that look, not when he let this happen to you.
“You thought it was me?” He whispered, horrified. You sobered, eyes snapping up to him as you were reminded of what you had been originally discussing.
“Yeah, I did.” You rubbed your nose ungracefully. “He had glasses, like you. Sweet, too. Gave me his jacket, like you do sometimes.” You smiled up at him, but he didn’t return it, waiting for you to continue. You furrowed your brows in concentration, looking down at your lap to pull out the blurry memories.
“Ha, we should ask Dumbledore for his pensieve,” you snorted, trying to lighten the mood.
“Dove…”
“Right, okay. Uh, it gets fuzzy here,” you murmur, straining for puzzle pieces. “He introduced me to his friends, ‘n we talked a bit.” You shook your head, desperate to clear your clouded senses. You pinched your cheek. You held your breath. Nothing was any clearer.
“Think I talked about trousers, for a bit,” you laughed at your drunken antics. “How I had wished—oh, shit.” Your eyes widened. “Oh shit. James, I think I remember. James, I think I remember, and it wasn’t good, James, James, please James,” your hands began trembling, and you moved them around his body looking for the best leverage. They settled at his biceps, and you squeezed, an ache spreading through your muscles.
“James, no, I don’t want to do this, James.” Fuck, the tears were coming back. You didn’t want to cry in front of James. You didn’t want to think about this at all. “No, James, I’m not talking about this. I don’t want it to happen. It didn’t happen.” You’re frantic now, nails digging into his skin.
James’ arms pull you in even tighter, and you let yourself go limp inside his embrace. He soothed you, one hand rubbing the small of your back as the other weaved its way through your hair. You were shivering, and you couldn’t tell if it was from the cold, from the event, or from the way he was touching you. You weren’t sure if you wanted to be touched right now. But you weren’t sure if you wanted to be away from James. You thought you might die if you left his arms; they were the only place where you felt safe, protected, pure.
James didn’t say anything. What was there to say? I’m sorry. What was he sorry for? For abandoning you? For letting it happen? He didn’t mean for any of this to happen. I’ll kill him. And he would if he knew who the boy in question was. He’d kill him slowly and painfully, and maybe he’d let the school know of his crimes before he took the boy’s life so that his legacy would be tarnished even after death. James would do all of it for you, but he couldn’t. Not now, not when you were holding on to him as if he was the only thing anchoring you to the world.
“My love…” James let himself cry. He let himself bury his head into your hair and he let himself catch the scent of your shampoo, and he let the tears flow freely as a million worst-case scenarios raced through his mind, like Cornish pixies as they wreaked havoc in their path of flight.
“James…” You let yourself cry too, and you nuzzled your face even closer to his chest as you sobbed. He could feel the dampness of your tears seeping through the thin fabric at his chest, and he could feel the vibrations of each shuddering breath you took. Each one pierced his heart a little more.
Between desperate gasps for air and violent hiccups, you spat out the words that you had been searching for the entire night.
“He- hic! He tried to touch me- hic! There, you- hic! You know? And I was scared, James. I was so, so- hic! Hic! I was so scared. I wanted you to be there, James. You would’ve- hic! Known what to do.” You weren’t getting enough air. Your head was beginning to fog up again.
“Hey, hey, breathe f’me, okay? Look at me. Come on, look at me.” James grabbed your chin forcefully, trying to compensate for how much he was shaking. He took your hand and put it on his chest as he took a deep inhale. “Breathe with me, okay?” His eyes, which were as red as the Gryffindor banners, refused to leave yours.
You struggled with the breathing exercise. It took you over ten minutes to return your breathing to a consistent intake of air, but even then, your heart was pounding so quickly you felt like it might start skipping beats before it collapsed altogether.
“James, I couldn’t do anything,” you choked. “I just let it happen, James. I- I lost it all. I had no courage. When it finally counted, I couldn’t even be brave.” You gaped for air, making fish-like noises, but you didn’t care. You really, truly thought you might die if you didn’t keep breathing. “Am I even a Gryffindor? I can’t even do that one thing, I just let it happen, I just wanted someone else to come and save me, I just wanted you-”
“Don’t say that.” James hissed, pushing you away from him. “Don’t you say that about my favorite girl. You’re so strong,” his eyes darkened. “And he’s the coward. Taking advantage of you, getting you drunk, he’s the coward, he is. Not you.” James held you by the shoulders, thumbs pressing up from under your chin to keep your head elevated. “You’re wrong, baby. You are brave. You’re here, telling me what happened. You’re confronting it head-on and that takes real courage. I don’t see any cowardice from you. I only see strength. Look at you. You’re here, you’re alive, and you’re breathing, aren’t you? He’s gone, and you’re still here.
“And right in front of me is the picture of rebellion. He tried to hurt you, he tried to take away your spirit, and he tried to destroy your autonomy. But in the end, it’s not about him. He’s vile and he’s nothing and he’ll never be anything. In the end, it’s you. It’s you, because you’re still here. These tears?” He smiled sadly and brushed the pad of his thumb underneath your eyes. When he pulled his finger away, it was stained black. “These tears are proof that you’re still human. You’re still you, baby.
“He tried to take away your power, but you know, it takes real power to still be here. He tried and he failed. You’re so strong, love, you’re so strong. So strong.” He pressed his lips to the top of your head, giving you what you thought might’ve been soft kisses, between each utterance.
“James, I’m tired.” You blinked heavily. “I’m so tired, James. I’m tired of this and I’m tired because I need to sleep. Can you take me to bed, please?”
James blushed. “Yeah, I’ll take you up.” He draped your arms around his neck, allowing your head to rest upon his shoulder as he swept you up by the legs. His fingers dug into your thighs and your calves dangled freely.
“Where the fuck do you think you’re going?” Marlene was nearly snarling as she caught sight of James quietly taking you up the stairs.
“Bringing her up, I swear! She’s heavy, I don’t know if you’ll be able to carry her.” As much as Marlene wanted to take offense, James was right.
“You think I’m heavy?” You grumbled.
“Not what I meant, love. Nothing wrong with being heavy. Marls is just small. You’re no trouble for me.”
You seemed satisfied with that answer. When James set you on your bed, you were already half asleep. You curled in on yourself, and even with the lights off, he could see the goosebumps forming along your arms as you rubbed them to warm yourself. He moved to tuck you in but took note of your red slip.
Should he help you change? You couldn’t be comfortable in your jewelry and dress. And if you woke up in them tomorrow, would you be reminded of tonight? But in the end, they were your clothes. And would it be fair to try and change you when you were drunk and verging on unconsciousness, even if it was completely well-intentioned? You had already lost so much of your control today.
Control, he thought. You should be able to make your own decisions about your own body. He’d just offer you the pyjamas, he figured. But going through your drawers? That was also invasive. He dashed out of your room and returned just as quickly, this time with a bundle of his own clothes in his arms. He sat at the edge of the bed, watching as your eyes slowly opened and blinked until his face came into focus.
“James? What are you still doing here?”
“Brought you some clothes. D’you wanna change? I didn’t want to do it for you, it felt wrong.”
“Thank you, James.” The corners of your mouth turned up in gratitude. “It… means a lot. And yeah, I’d like to change.” You took the clothes from him and began slipping out of your dress. James let out a strangled noise.
“Ah! I’ll leave, I’m so sorry.” He rushed towards the door.
“No! Please- uh, will you stay? Just don’t look right now. But could you just stay for a few minutes?”
James nodded silently. You pulled on the clothes he had given you—they weren’t your own. You were quick to identify them as his, though. You could recognize his cologne. Soon, the worn cotton of his shirt filled your nose with his comforting presence, and you opted out of his sweatpants, which kept slipping down your hips. You grabbed a pair of something that resembled shorts off the ground and slipped them on instead.
“Okay, I’m done.” He turned, and the both of you flushed under each other’s gazes.
“You look… you look good, all things considered.” His mouth was pursed so tightly that his lips had disappeared. His skin looked pale under the moonlight that crept in through the window.
“Are you okay?” You whispered. The room was quiet enough that your voice was able to fill up the entire space.
“I’m fine. You don’t have to worry about me, dove.” James approached you tentatively. “Are you comfortable with me touching you?”
You nodded. James wrapped his arms around you once more, bringing you to flush against his chest as your arms found a place around his waist.
“I care about you, a lot. Probably more than I should.” James confessed breathlessly. “It scares me sometimes. How far I’d be willing to go for you.”
“Don’t say that, James. Nobody is worth sacrificing your integrity for.”
“But you are. For you, I’d sacrifice anything. Everything.”
You didn’t know what to say to that. What were you supposed to? James interrupted your thoughts. “You don’t have to say anything. I just wanted to let you know what you mean to me. And now you know, I guess.”
“Will you stay a little longer? I don’t want to go to sleep right now,” you wriggled yourself out of his hold, your hands coming up to cup his cheeks. “I’m- I’m afraid to close my eyes. I’m scared to dream. But mostly, I’m scared that I won’t be able to do anything this time. If I’m not awake.”
James’ face was nothing short of devastated by your words. “Of course. I’d do anything for you, remember?” He tried for a smile, but it came out more like a grimace. You gave him your own sleepy smile.
“C’mere.” You propped yourself up on a few pillows so that your back could rest comfortably against the headboard, and patted the space beside you. James looked cautious, but you mouthed your reassurances to him. When he finally crawled beside you, the mattress sunk under his weight. He laid flat on his back, eyes staring straight into the ceiling as you observed his face from your sitting position.
“Thank you for everything, James. I don’t think that I’d be… okay, if you weren’t here.” You fumbled in the dark for his hand, tangling your fingers in his. You could feel the bed shift as his body finally relaxed.
You sighed. “And you’re right. I shouldn’t have said those things about me not being a Gryffindor. You were right when you said I was strong. I am strong, I really am. Thank you for reminding me of that. And I hope- I know that one day, I’ll be okay. And it’ll be because I had you, James. It’ll be because I’m strong.
You squeezed James’ hand absentmindedly. “I’m not scared of you, I hope you know that. The guy? I thought he was you, for a bit. D’you know why? Because he seemed to care, James. I trusted him because I trust you, and I still trust you, don’t worry. I didn’t mean any of it—the stuff I said when I was out of it, I mean. You’re always looking out for me. That’s why I thought he was you. ‘Cos you’re always taking care of me, and I never thank you properly for it. Thank you, Jamie.”
James finally squeezes your hand back. Not letting go, he props up on his elbow and turned to face you. His eyes glittered, watery and vulnerable as they met yours. “I’ve always cared about you, y’know? I guess I’m not very good at showing it. It’s hard for me to be… vulnerable, I guess. I’ve always admired your ability to do that—to be able to feel so freely. But you deserve someone who can tell you how they feel about you.”
You held your breath. Was this the moment he’d tell you how he felt about you? But nothing came. You closed your eyes, smiling sadly. You didn’t feel anything towards him anyway, so what did it matter? But you couldn’t chase the pang in your stomach. It had been a long night; ‘course your stomach was a bit upset.
“You’ve been plenty vulnerable tonight, Jamie. If that counts for anything.” Your fingers began moving on their own accord, breaking themselves out of James’ hold and slowly tracing them up his arm until they came to rest on his shoulder. He shuddered under your feathery touch. You shifted, coming down from your looming spot against the headboard until you were level with James on the bed, your head further down to avoid the stack of pillows which meant you were a couple centimeters below James’ shoulders.
“I dunno, lovey. But I’ll take your word for it. You’ve always been much smarter than me.” You rolled over to your stomach and pushed yourself up on an elbow so you could be eye-to-eye with him. You took his chin in your hands.
“Don’t say that about my favorite boy.” James’ mouth parted in surprise, but before he could speak, you knocked his elbow from underneath him so that he lost his balance and fell back onto the bed. You giggled, taking the opportunity to nuzzle into his chest. “You smell nice,” you whispered shyly.
“Do I, now?” He chuckled, chest vibrating under from where your head rested. His hand came up to run circles along your back.
“Mhm,” you agreed, closing your eyes in sleepy satisfaction. “Thank you, James. Thank you, thank you, thank you.” James let you ramble for a bit until you went silent. At first, he thought you were just enjoying the peace of the nighttime with him, but as your breaths evened out, he realized you had fallen asleep atop him.
Shit, Lily’s gonna slaughter me if she finds me like this. But if I move and she wakes up, she’ll refuse to go to sleep again. And she really should sleep, not only to recover from all that happened to her, but also sleep off the alcohol. She’s not used to all this; she’s gonna have a brutal hangover in the morning.
And, if James was being honest, he was in no rush to leave you. He was perfectly content to be beside you as you slept; it was the ultimate sign of trust. You’d felt safe enough around him to let your guard down, even after you’d confessed to not wanting to sleep in fear of something happening that you couldn’t control. And yet, you’d still asked him to stay. His heart skipped.
“You don’t see it, do you?” James muttered, mostly to himself. “You don’t even realize how much I love you.” With that, he let his eyes close.
James Potter x fem!reader ♡ 844 words
You find your boyfriend in a corner booth, hanging onto Sirius’ arm and waxing poetic about their school days.
“They never figured out how we always avoided Minnie whenever she wanted to find us,” he snickers, eyes glimmering. “We were soooo slippery.”
“I think she knew everything,” says Remus, taking a sip of his drink. You notice there’s not one in front of James; it must have been confiscated. “She just liked us—some of us, that is—” He hides a smirk behind his glass. “—well enough to let us get away with it all.” He spots you and, with a nod, turns his attention to Sirius to give you and James space.
James humphs noncommittally, confused as to why Remus no longer seems to be entertaining him.
You come up on his other side, touching his muscled shoulder lightly. “Hey.”
James turns swiftly, clearing not having noticed you walking over. You’re expecting a smile and a hug and expectant, puckered lips—his usual greeting for you—but instead his eyes narrow behind his glasses, brows twitching together almost imperceptibly.
“Hello,” he says, somewhat stiffly.
You feel your lips curve into a bemused sort of smile. “Hi, handsome. Ready to go home?”
He guffaws. Actually guffaws, like you’ve just suggested he go jump in the Thames. “I think not,” he says. “I have a girlfriend.”
A tiny laugh startles out of you. “Yeah, I’m aware. You alright?”
Now he gives you a smile. Or his best attempt at one, but James has always been a terrible actor, and the false grin manifests as a grimace. “M’good, thanks.”
He starts to turn back towards his friends, but you pull on his sleeve.
“C’mon, Jamie,” you urge. “It’s time to go, yeah?” James turns around, looking truly scandalized now. You give his arm a tug. “Let’s go home.”
“No,” he insists, firmer than you knew could be managed with a slur. “I told you, I have a girlfriend. She’s waiting at my home, ‘nd I love her very much. Leave me alone.”
“James,” you laugh. “Honey, it’s me.”
“Pads.” He turns around, wrapping his arm around Sirius’ shoulders like he needs to hold onto something lest you try and haul him away. “Pads, this woman is trying to take me home. Tell ‘er I have a girlfriend.”
Your mouth drops open. “James!”
Sirius turns slowly, raking his gaze over you. He raises an eyebrow, unimpressed. “Get lost, babe. This one’s taken.”
Then he jolts and cuts a glare towards Remus, who sips from his drink innocently. “Be nice,” he reminds his boyfriend, foot moving back under his own chair.
Sirius sighs, rolling his eyes. “Prongs,” he says with great reluctance, “this is your girlfriend.”
Even drunk, James knows enough to be suspicious of his friend when he’s in a mischief-making mood. He squints at Sirius. “My girlfriend s’at home,” he reasons.
“Your girlfriend is here,” Sirius says evenly, and you can’t blame James for his skepticism; if you weren’t fully aware that you are here, you wouldn’t trust Sirius’ deadpan stare either.
“I texted her, James,” Remus says helpfully. “She’s here because I told her where we were.”
Your boyfriend’s lips part, and he turns to you with something between joy and heartache—but the shock of both—written all over his face. “Sweetheart,” he cries, “it’s you!”
“Yeah,” you laugh, letting him tug you forward by the hips into an awkward hug. You set a consoling hand on top of his head. “That’s what I was trying to tell you.”
“My sweetheart,” he mumbles into your stomach. “I didn’t know it was you, angel. Of course I’ll go home with you.”
“Glad to hear it.” You pat his back, heat rising to your cheeks at the display.
James turns his head, still gripping you tightly so the side of his face is pressed to your front. “You texted her for me?” he asks Remus, maudlin.
“Well, I texted her because I didn’t feel like walking in the opposite direction of our flat to carry you home,” Remus says, then shrugs. “But for you too, sure.”
“Thank you, Moony,” James croons.
Remus turns to hide a smile, and you take James’ head in your hands, angling his face back up towards you. “Hi, handsome,” you try again. “Ready to go home?”
He bobs his head happily, clambering out of his seat and whistling rowdily when you slip an arm around his waist to help support him. You wonder if the heat from your face could be harvested to power a hospital or something. You wave goodbye to his friends as James calls over your shoulder how much he’ll miss them until he sees them tomorrow.
“M’so excited to go home, baby.” He leans into your side as you maneuver the both of you out the door of the pub. “I’ve been dying to get home to you. You should’a heard, earlier, I was talking to this other girl ‘nd I told her, ‘I’m just dying to get home to my girlfriend’.”
“Yeah, I remember,” you say. “That was me.”
“Oh, right!”
“I don’t mean to alarm you boys,” Marlene started, not looking at all concerned about alarming them in the slightest. “But I think you might be missing a member of your group.”
Sirius and James looked to each other in horror as Remus let out an exasperated sigh.
“Where is she?” Remus asked impatiently.
“I swear she was just behind me...” James admitted, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck.
“She cannot miss lunch, she hardly sat down long enough for breakfast this morning.” Remus commented mostly to himself as he headed back the way he came, hoping to quickly find wherever you’d wandered off to.
Although your whimsy and excitement in life was one of the things the boys most admired about you, it did make Remus worry from time to time that you’d forget to look after yourself.
It shouldn’t be that big of a deal, however, seeing as you had three boyfriends here to help you out on that end. Though, it didn’t speak very highly of them when they kept losing you.
There were very few moments in his life he was particularly grateful for his lycanthropy, but this was perhaps one of them.
He could smell you before he heard you, and he heard you before he saw you.
He rounded a corner which was disturbingly far from the Great Hall, meaning they’d lost you quite some time ago, and saw you conversing with a portrait of the Fat Friar.
“From what I’ve learned both in life and in death, forgiveness is not only for the other person, but also for yourself.” The Fat Friar said to you. Remus paused in his steps to enjoy the uninhibited smile that graced your face.
“Have you ever met someone unworthy of forgiveness, Friar?” You asked, your serene voice drifting down the hallway and gracing Remus’ ears.
“Not in my nearly 1000 years.” He answered.
Your smile grew impossibly wider at that. “Me either.”
Remus couldn’t take it anymore, he resumed his trek towards you, and though he’d been going for stern, he knew his face looked impossibly lovesick as you turned your beaming smile onto him.
“Hi Rem.” You called softly, turning away from the portrait and towards your boyfriend.
“We thought we lost you, dovey.” He reprimanded as he reached for your face, resting one hand on either cheek and tilting your face up towards him.
“I’m never very far.” You answered. Remus was torn between wanting to roll his eyes fondly and thanking you for ensuring that this was true.
“Any amount of space is too far, my love.” He said instead, placing a lingering kiss to your forehead. Your eyes closed and you let out a pleased hum.
“Why’d you wander off, dove?” He asked as he pulled back, keeping your face secured in his hands and rubbing your cheekbones with his thumbs.
“I saw a dedalian key fly by, but as I was following it, I saw the portrait of Ferdinand Octavius Pratt who was very upset because the Fat Friar’s ghost insisted that he let go of old grudges. So, I figured I’d ask the Friar his side of the story. And, well, here we are.” You finished, smiling up at him like having him find you here had been your master plan all along.
“Here we are.” He murmured back, wondering how on earth he and his boyfriends managed to land something as impossibly sweet as you.
Speaking of said boyfriends, Remus’ thoughts were interrupted by the sound of two heavy footfalls as the sods came running up to the two of you.
“There you are dollface! We were worried sick.” Sirius proclaimed as he all but shoved Remus out of the way and took his place, holding your face in his hands and peppering your head with kisses.
You giggled and pulled back slightly, which Sirius allowed but kept you safe within his grasp.
“You needn’t worry, Sirius. I was in wonderful company.”
Sirius raised an eyebrow and Remus translated for him.
“She was busy talking to the Fat Friar when I found her.”
Sirius nodded in understanding before he narrowed his eyes at you. “He wasn’t making moves on you, was he?”
You laughed as if Sirius had made some very funny joke, and Remus laughed along with you even though he could tell Sirius wasn’t  entirely convinced.
“I’m sorry we lost you, angel.” James said somewhat meekly. Remus knew though that he was mostly apologizing to Remus and less to you.
“That’s quite alright Jamie.” You assured him. “I would have found you later.”
Some tension left James’ shoulders as he smiled at you, sharing a shy glance with Remus before continuing. “You didn’t eat much for breakfast since you were so excited about the Grindylow’s hatching, so...” He said as he pulled out a tote bag from behind his back. “Pads and I ran to the kitchens and packed a picnic. Would you like to head down to the Black Lake now?”
If Remus’ heart grew two sizes at the sentiment, yours must have grown three.
“Oh, Jamie!” You nearly squealed, pulling him into a hug that he eagerly reciprocated.
“I’d love that! Thank you!” You cheered, stepping back towards Sirius who quickly hooked your arm in his – a guarantee that he wouldn’t lose you this time.
“After you then, m’lady.” Sirius said seductively with a wink, causing you to giggle again as the two of you turned and headed towards the school grounds.
Remus quickly pulled James up against his side and pressed a kiss into his hair.
“You’re such a sweet boy, James Potter.” He murmured, feeling the fondness ooze right out of his being for this man he somehow got to call his.
“Yeah?” James asked, sending Remus a beaming smile.
Remus smiled and accepted a searing kiss from the quidditch chaser.
James let out a pleased sigh as he pulled out of the kiss and walked in step with Remus, looking ahead to watch you and Sirius nearly skip down the hall. It was incredibly lighthearted, though Remus noticed Sirius possessively pull you into his side as you two walked past the ghost of the Fat Friar who exchanged nothing more than a polite head nod with you.
“We’re so lucky.” James commented.
Remus couldn’t help but agree.
I just read an interesting ask (not to my account) and answer about Hermione's role as the fandom bicycle and both accounts made fair points (excessive Ron bashing, Hermione is held to huge standards) but conveniently forgot to point out that a big part of Hermione-centric fics are about empowering her (and the author empowering themselves through her). If she's often paired with more mature/older characters, it's not only because she's a popular character that is handy for writing smut about any other character... but because people genuinely think Hermione deserves better than someone they see as inferior (Ron) and not only that, but see her getting with someone else as reclaiming herself, freeing herself from her destiny (the canon). It's a Fix-It of some sorts.
I don't know, the post (which I won't link since both people seemed pretty dead set on their opinion and I'm not particularly trying to change anyone's mind, I'm just rambling for myself and possibly anyone else who's interested in that) really paints Hermione as a fragile thing and I think it does her a disservice.
(One of the two people also seemed to think that shipping characters meant you wanted to see them together in canon, which, assflash newshole: no)
WAR HAD RAGED on at Hogwarts for far too long. Our spirits were broken, Harry Potter had been killed and brought back to life, our many beloved Slytherins were dragged and forced to fight a battle that they did not choose.
Merlin, even children were pulled away from their families - kicking and screaming.
The Death Eaters showed no mercy, so we showed none in return. It was a life that we had to learn to accept. We lived purely based on survival instinct ever since The Dark Lord was resurrected. Ever since darkness and evil spread across the wizarding world. Everything Lily and James Potter died for had been in vain - we were back to square one, hunting horcruxes and fighting for our lives.
My family was gone, my friends slaughtered - so I found solace in the Chosen One and his gang of misfits. This is where I belonged for the past three years at Hogwarts Secondary School, and this did not change after the war.
We'd been bonded for eternity. Or so I thought.
When Voldemort had finally been defeated we had a tough time getting school back on track. Yet life kept moving, and we kept growing. For me, I couldn't escape the horror of the past. All my friends seemed to move on with their lives; but it's as if I was stuck in a constant loop of agony and fear. Some days I would wake up paralyzed, and I would feel as if I was back on that battlefield, surrounded by rubble and the corpses of my classmates.
Our first year of University was afoot, yet I had no idea how to continue on with life. How could I?
Was healing even a possibility for me anymore?
Yandere Draco Malfoy (4/5)
Tumblr media
Word count ; 3.9k
*Edited.
“Snape!” Harry boomed from across the field, despite Bellatrix’s taunting shrieks.
I was managing to keep up with him, my entire body aching, my heart beating out of my chest, and tears flooding down my cheeks. We were approaching Hagrid’s home. I dreaded for the giant man’s life. I wanted so badly to be the hero, but I had nothing but my cowardice and a tiny stick of wood that passed as a wand.
“He trusted you!”
Bellatrix set Hagrid’s home ablaze. Her hoots and hollers echoed in the cold night air.
“Go on,” Snape instructed to the rest of the Death Eaters. But Draco, as much of a trembling mess as he was, remained, a few feet behind him.
“Encanto!” Harry exclaimed, but Snape defended himself from the spell.
“Expeliarmus!” I squeaked as I pulled out my wand. Snape dodged that one, too.
“Fight back, you coward! Fight back!”
We were getting closer and closer. We were only a few dozen yards away from the Death Eaters. Draco was staring at me oh-so pitifully. He looked absolutely heartbroken. But I didn’t let him distract me. I was here to protect Harry, even if I couldn’t do much.
Bellatrix suddenly shot at both of us. We went flying back. I landed on Harry.
“No!” Snape and Draco shouted in unison. I heard footsteps run toward us.
“She’s my fucking girlfriend! Please!” Draco sobbed.
“He belongs to the Dark Lord,” Snape reasoned.
I was pulled off of Harry roughly. I looked up and saw Draco, a complete mess. He pulled me so that I was sitting on the grass. He crouched down and buried his head in the crook of my neck. His nails dug into my back. I returned the hug, letting my sobs reverberate across the field.
“Oh! Little Malfoy has a girlfriend, does he? How cute,” Bellatrix quipped. I saw from over Draco’s shoulder that the Death Eaters were beginning to leave. “Come along, Draco! You can bring your cute little girlfriend along if you stop your whining.”
I clutched Draco’s cloak desperately. He pulled me to my feet, our bodies not separating once. He held so much pain in his eyes. I wanted for nothing more than to save him. I let him raise his wand to the side of my head.
I sent him a reassuring smile.
“Bewitching somnum.”
~~~
Never did I think I would meet him in person. He was even uglier in person; he had no nose, his skin was grey, and his flesh was scaly. If I was stupider or braver I would insult him, but I knew better. I knew that silence was how I would save my hide.
It was even scarier with the woman who was hanging from the chandelier rocking bath and forth like a pendulum, face bloody and beaten.
On one side, was Draco, who was holding my hand tightly. On the other, Narcissa, who looked just as sickly pale. Death Eaters lined the table with he-who-must-not-be-named at the head. The Malfoy Manor dining room was dimly lit, and a magical mist drifted over us. The fireplace crackled.
Snape suddenly emerged. He was stoic and unreadable as always. We made eye contact. Oh, I felt oh-so betrayed. Not by Draco, no. He was completely cornered. But by the teacher who’s class I’d taken for, what, six years now?
“Serverus. I was starting to worry that you lost your way,” Voldemort stated. “Come. We saved you a seat.” Snape sat at the table. “You bring news, I trust?”
“It will happen on next Saturday, on nightfall.”
“I heard differently, my lord,” another man interrupted. “There will be no sign of the Potter boy until the thirtieth of this month. The day before he turns seventeen.”
“This is a false trail. The aura office no longer pays any protection to the Harry Potter. Those closest to him believe we have infiltrated the ministry.”
“Well,” a man laughed,” you got that right.”
The table erupted in cruel laughter. Voldemort turned his attention to the man at the other end of the table. “What say you, Pious?”
Pious gathered his thoughts. “One hears many things, my lord. But whether the truth is among them, it is unclear.”
“Spoken like a politician!” the Dark Lord exclaimed. “You will, I think, prove most useful, Pious.” An awkward silence fell over the table. “Where will he be taking the boy?”
“Most likely the home of someone in the Order,"Snape answered, clasping his hands together. “I've been told it's been given every manner of protection possible. There, it will be impractical to attack him.”
“My lord, I’d like to volunteer myself for this task,” Bellatrix spoke up. “I want to kill the boy.”
A muffled scream from the other room sounded. “Wormtail!” He-who-must-not-be-named raged. “Have I not reminded you to keep our guests quiet?"
“Y- yes, my lord. Right away, my lord.”
My heart sunk. How long would it be until I was the one dangling from the ceiling?
“As inspiring as I find your blood-lust, Bellatrix, I must be the one to kill Harry Potter.” Bellatrix shrunk in her seat, while Voldemort stood up. “But I face an unfortunate complication. That my wand and Potter’s share the same core. They are, in some ways, twins. We can wound, but not fatally harm one another. If I am to kill him, I am to do it with another’s wand.” I trembled, fearing for my life as he paced behind me. “Come. Surely one of you would like the honor. Hm?”
My wand was weak. It had always been best used for practical uses. And I was a Hufflepuff. Perhaps…
“You can have mine.”
All eyes turned to me. Draco was looking at me like I was a maniac. Voldemort broke into a fit of boisterous laughter, hovering behind my seat. His hands clasped over my shoulder. “How bold of you.  Our newest recruit, stepping up to the plate. You could all learn something from her. Wormtail! Fetch our guest's wand.”
My body convulsed and I was overcome with unavoidable tremors. The meek servant revealed himself, and he held my wand. I dreaded seeing it in Voldemort’s hands as he examined it.
“And what are the properties?”
“The - the core is troll whisker.”
“Troll whisker. Now that's rare,” he hummed. He was silent for a moment, but stepped away. “For those of us who do not know, we are joined tonight by Ms. Charity Burbage, who, until recently, taught at Hogwarts School of Wizard and Witchcraft.  Her speciality was Muggle studies.” Some snickered and taunted the woman. Draco squeezed my hand tighter. I was on the verge of tears. “It is Ms. Burbage's belief that muggles are not so different from us. She would, having given her way, have us mate. To her, the mixture of magical and muggle blood would create something of an abomination.”
The woman began pleading and begging for her life. All I could feel was guilt. I closed my eyes as tightly as I could.
Voldemort, now sitting, answered her pleas with,” Avada Kadavra!”
The woman dropped onto the table. A scream threatened to escape, but Draco pulled my into his arms and hid my face in his chest. I let out quiet sobs. If only I hadn’t given that bastard my wand. Perhaps she would have lived longer. I was making all the wrong decisions.
I heard something slithering. When I glanced to the table, there was a large snake consuming the woman's body.
~~~
“I’m so sorry,” Draco whispered in my ear.
We were in the manor, in Draco’s room. We had been inseparable ever since I was kidnapped. I was glad that there was one 'friendly' face around. I hated what had happened. Voldemort was on the verge of winning, and I could do absolutely nothing about it. I could only hope Harry was alright.
Night had fallen. Draco, surprisingly, wasn't as large of a part as I thought he was. In fact, most of the time, we were alone. I preferred it that way.
We were laying in bed. We were restless, just like every other night. But at least we had each other. We were spooning romantically. My hands were wrapped around his waist and I held him against me. His hair smelled flowery and lovely. Our legs were wound up in one another.
“You have nothing to be sorry for, my love,” I replied.
His shoulders slouched into the comforter. He turned on his side so that he was facing me. I released his waist and met his beautiful blue orbs. I stroked his cheeks, which were damp from tears. My heart pounded for the boy who had no choice.
He let out a sigh, his hand resting above mine. His eyes fluttered shut. He pressed a chaste kiss to my lips before receding once more. “You shouldn't be a part of this. You deserve better than me. This should've been mine and only my burden to carry.”
“You say this every night, Draco. You will have your chance to make it all right. And no matter how much you insist —"
“You're not even supposed to be here right now. I was selfish and took you with me when at the very least, you should be at Hogwarts. At home. Anywhere but here.”
“I would've chased after you if you hadn’t. I would follow you to the ends of the Earth, Draco. Nothing you could’ve done would make a difference. I want to be with you, right here, right now," I confessed, pressing my forehead against his.
More tears spilled from his shut eyes. I wiped them gently. “I don't deserve you,” he croaked.
“No. What you don't deserve is to be trapped in this situation.”
He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me closer. He was warm, comfortable. During nights like this, sometimes I forgot that I wasn't here by choice, and he wasn't either.
“Neither do you. You know that they’ll make you get the Death Eater mark. The only reason they haven’t tossed you in the cellar like the rest of the hostages is because they believe that you’ll become one of us.”
My heart sank in my chest. I fell silent. Draco, sensing my distress, rubbed circles around my waist. My pajama shirt crumpled, and I felt his fingers ghost over my skin. I felt fire where he touched. A small, sad smile graced my face.
“Why did you give up your wand?” he mumbled.
“I had to. My core is weaker than others… It’s also harder to control. I can only hope it causes he-who-must-not-be-named to be weaker when he needs to use it.”
Draco sighed again. “But now you are entirely defenseless.”
“I would rather be defenseless and a hostage than be away from you.”
A chuckle bubbled in his throat. It was dry. “What did I ever do deserve such a perfect person? Such a loyal, stunning lover? I promise, no matter what happens, I will protect you. Just please… never leave my side.”
“I could never.”
~~~
“Well?”
I was standing beside Draco in the study. All the other Death Eaters were swarmed behind us. In front of us, stood a very deformed Harry Potter, his face bulging. An unknown ally was holding him up and had his want pointing his head.
The rest of the man's group were holding Hermione and Ron hostage. My stomach churned as we were being forced to identify the boy.
“I can’t be sure,” Draco conceded.
Lucius came up behind us and grabbed both of our necks, thrusting us forward. “Draco. Look closely, son. The Dark Lord requires that we hand the boy over. Everything will be just as it was. Do you understand?” he whispered.
“Now we won't be forgetting who actually caught him I imagine, right, Mr. Malfoy?” the man spoke up, jostling Harry. Draco grabbed my hand tightly, and we exchanged knowing stares.
“You dare to talk to me like that in my own house?” Lucius raged, clutching Draco tighter.
“Lucius,” Narcissa hissed, coming up to the pair and pulling him away.
“Don't be shy. Look closely,” Bellatrix insisted, grabbing Draco’s free hand to pull him closer to Harry. “One mistake and he'll kill us all. We need to be absolutely sure.”
Draco leaned down in front of him. I hovered behind, massaging his shoulders. “What’s wrong with his face?" Draco inquired.
“Yes, what is wrong with his face?” Bellatrix parroted.
“He came to us like that. Something he picked up in the forest, I reckon.”
Bellatrix’s attention shifted. She began pacing toward the captive Ron and Hermione. “Was it you two? Give me her wand. Let’s see what her last spell was.” Bellatrix suddenly let out a gasp of shock, while Narcissa tapped Draco on the shoulder. “Where did you get that from?”
I peered over my shoulder. One of the men had a shiny sword. I figured it must’ve been a magic relic.
“It as in her bag when we searched her. I reckon it’s mine now.”
Bellatrix shot at the man, causing him to fly back toward the staircase. The sword detached from his waist and flew into her grasp. The man let out a yelp of pain. She began attacking ruthlessly, conjuring a snake to wrap around one of the men’s neck. Draco was trembling. I crouched down and hugged his torso tightly, squeezing my eyes shut so that I didn’t have to see the men die.
I herd the lash of a whip and more choking ensued. “Go. Go! Go!” she shrieked, releasing the men from her grasp. I opened my eyes as Bellatrix stormed over to Hermione and Ron. “Put the boys in the cellar!”
Harry was torn away from in front of us. Wormtail emerged from the corridor and grabbed the pair. Draco rose to his feet, protectively pushing me behind him. I held his waist tightly, watching as Bellatrix hovered in front of Hermione.
“I’ll have a little conversation with this one! Girl to girl!” She threw Hermione onto the ground, straddling her waist. Her wand was stabbing into her lower jaw. “That sword is supposed to be in Gringots. How did you get it?”
Hermione let out sobs. I couldn’t bare to watch my friend in so much fright and pain. “How did you take it from my vault?” she roared.
“Please,” Hermione sobbed,” I didn’t take anything!”
“Well then.”
A scream bubbled in my throat as Bellatrix began torturing the poor girl. I wanted to help her. Her screams echoed through the halls. I couldn’t take it.
“Please! Stop!” I screeched, steping away from Draco and storming up to Bellatrix.
Bellatrix clearly wasn’t in the mood for fun and games. She stopped, but her face contorted into a deeper, scarier, rage. “What was that, little girl? Care to repeat that?”
I collapsed on my hands and feet, bowing to her. “Please! She doesn’t know. She’s being honest! She doesn’t deserve this, just throw her into the cellar with the rest of them!”
Bellatrix sneered. “I don’t have time for this. Wormtail! Throw her in with the rest of the children!”
Draco grabbed my arm and pulled me to my feet. “Please, she’s just confused —“
“Watch your mouth, Draco,” Lucius boomed, pulling him away from me.
“Control your boy, Malfoy,” Bellatrix hissed. “Otherwise, I might tip off the Dark Lord.”
“Please, just let Hermione go!” I pleaded. But my begs fell on deaf ears, as Peter Petigrew grabbed my arm and pointed his wand into my neck. I was dragged away from the scene violently. I spared only a glance at Draco. Tears were running down his face.
I was pushed down the stairs. He opened the cell door and threw me in. Harry rushed over to me and helped me to my feet. “You! Goblin! Come with me,” Peter demanded, pointing his wand at the goblin.
The goblin exited the cell. The screams resumed. I placed my hands over my ears desperately. Harry checked me over.
“Blimey, Y/n, what happened to you?” Ron asked, shooting a light on with a magical lighter.
“I’ve been here ever since the night I was kidnapped,” I explained. “I’ve tried doing what I can, but… I’m just as much of a prisoner as you.”
“Lucky for us, it’s about time you got out,” Harry insisted.
Suddenly, a small house elf that went by the name of Dobby appeared in the cellar, letting out a yelp of surprise. “Ah!”
“Dobby? What are you doing here?” Harry inquired.
“Dobby came to save Harry Potter and his friends, of course! Dobby will always be there for Harry Potter!”
“Are you saying that you can apparat in and out of this room?”
“Could you take us with you?” Ron chimed in.
“Of course, I, uh, I’m an elf.”
“Works for me,” Ron grinned.
“Right. Dobby, I want you to take Luna and Mr. Olivander to the outskirts of Diangon Alley.”
“Whenever you’re ready, sir!” Luna exclaimed.
“‘Sir’… I like her very much,” Dobby tittered, motioning to Luna. He tottered over and grabbed both of their hands. “Meet me at the top of the stairs in ten seconds.”
They disappeared in a swirl. Harry pulled me over to the wall. We press dourselves against it as Petigrew hobbled down and opened the door. Suddenly, something hit his back, and with one final groan, the man collapsed on the ground.
At the top of the stairs was Dobby. “Who gets his wand?”
“Voldemort has mine,” I explained,” but one of you two can have it if you wish.”
“Yes, you should have it,” Harry and Ron agreed unanimously.
Sending them a reassuring grin, I took his wand. I felt a surge of confidence run through me now that I was finally armed after what seemed like weeks. We inched up the stairs. We paused at the top, hearing Bellatrix grill the goblin. Harry and Ron managed to get wands of their own, while I was stuck with Petigrew’s.
Bellatrix started to make her way back over to Hermione.
“Like hell!” Ron roared. “Expeliarmus!”
“Stupify!” Harry joined in.
Narcissa and Draco got in the way, blocking our path. He spared a shocked glance toward me, but I joined in, shooting my own spells at the pair. As badly as I wanted to cease my fire, I knew that the family was too scared to do what was right.
“Stop!” Hermione cried.
“Drop your wands,” Bellatrix rasped. I almost started bawling my eyes out right then and there asI realized Bellatrix was holding her wand against the poor girl’s neck. “I said drop them!”
I was the first to cooperate. Silence fell over the room, except for Hermione’s labored pants and the clattering against the floor. Draco lashed out and grabbed me, pulling me against him. I could see the growing rage on his petrified expression. I let out a yelp of pain from how tight his grip on my arm was. I felt his raise his wand to my neck.
“Pick them up, Narcissa. Now!”
She scuttled over and did so.
“Well, well, well. Look what we have here,” Bellatrix hissed playfully. “It’s Harry Potter, all shiny and new again. Just look at him.” Indeed, his disfigured face was sinking back to normal. “It’s time for the Dark Lord. Call him.”
Lucius stepped up from the back. I could see the regret etched in the man’s features.
“Call him!”
Lucius pulled up his sleeve, revealing his Death Eater mark. As his hand hovered over the mark, odd squeaks sounded from the ceiling. Everyone looked up, recognizing Dobby. He was unscrewing the chandelier.
With a final creak, it became loose. Bellatrix let out a scream and pulled away. Hermione jumped free, sprawling against the floor. As the glass shattered, Draco turned away from it and shielded me from glass. Harry suddenly jumped at Draco. I collided with the fireplace, but I quickly stood up.
While Ron was helping Hermione, Harry was trying to wrangle Draco’s wand away from him. Draco looked panicked, but just as infuriated. I jerked Draco back by his shoulder, letting Harry steal the wand.
“Stupify!” Harry shot the spell at Lucius, sending him flying into the fireplace.
I tried stepping around Draco to regroup with them, but he grabbed my wrist. Harry pulled me away and hid me behind him as we all huddled against the railing. I noticed that Draco was beyond pissed, gritting his teeth.
“Stupid elf! You could have killed me!” Bellatrix shrieked, having finally recovered.
“Dobby never meant to kill! Dobby only meant to maim or seriously injure.” He noticed Narcissa pulling out her wand and stole it from her. Now, with two of us armed, I felt much more confident.
“How dare you take a witch’s wand! How dare you defy your masters!”
“Dobby has no masters. Dobby is a free elf! And Dobby has come to save Harry Potter and his friends!”
We all grabbed Dobby, ready to apparat away. However, Bellatrix threw a knife at us last second. It felt as though the entire world had slowed down as we appeared on a beach.
I was laying behind Harry. We were all tired and defeated, but I crawled over to him and helped him stand up. We all were about to engage in a group hug with Ron and Hermione, but a meek voice called out for Harry. All of us noticed Dobby. He was stabbed. He was dying.
I let Harry mourn on his own. But as he held Dobby, who was bleeding out and dying, I went to him. And I sat behind him, and I held him.
“We should close his eyes, don’t you think?” I whispered, weaving around him. I gently closed the house elf’s eyes. Harry didn’t reply. He didn’t need to. “There. Now he’s just sleeping.”
“I want to bury him,” he announced. “Properly. Without magic.”
So that’s what we did. While Harry dug, I carried the poor house elf’s wrapped up corpse. Ron and Hermione then helped dig further. I gently placed Dobby’s corpse inside the grave. That afternoon, we had won the battle. But the war still raged on.
