I still don't understand how the entirety of Will's crush on Mike was told solely in looks and little moments throughout S3...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...and people still find the gall to say that the same exact thing happening with Mike the very next season doesn't mean anything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like?! You already learned and had confirmed that the little looks and glances mean a ton...because they were what were used to tell the story of Will's feelings. That is literally confirmed. Will has canonical romantic feelings for Mike Wheeler.
And yet. Mike. Giving the exact same looks Will did for two entire seasons...somehow means something different for him? Your argument is that for Will those exact looks were romantic..but for Mike they're platonic just because *checks notes* he said he loved someone else (the same way his actual blood sister Nancy did to Steve...one episode before they broke up)?
...be so mf serious right now

Would you ever consider doing platonic yanderes where the reader is the characters mom? Reader is married to the dad and the whole family is yandere?
(Example; Reader is married to Enji (a romantic yandere) and the kids are platonic yanderes to their mom (reader), either Rei doesn’t exist or Reader is their stepmom)
Or reader finding the LOV when they were kids and just adopting them herself instead of them going down the villain path and they become platonic yanderes for the mother that wanted and loved them? (I’m a sucker for platonic yanderes)
-💗
Been there, done that. Have u read Yandere overhaul as a president au???? Its literally that, with Overhaul being yandere for his fake wife reader so that he could gain popularity and become president, and then they have triplets- Dabi, Himiko and Tomura, all of who are yanderes for their mommy. And I take it a step further by making the entire world yandere for reader.
I have thought about another au where reader, just barely entering into adulthood, suddenly has to adopt Dabi (she took him in after he ran away from home and found him sleeping in an alley). She worked very hard to bond with Dabi, and after a few months, he finally began opening up to her affection (he let's her cuddle him, and kiss his forehead before tucking him in her bed while she takes the couch because she knows Dabi has still has some issues with physical touch). Despite having little to no savings, she puts him in school (the same place where she works part time as a janitor. Though she hides herself when he's with his classmates because she doesn't want him to feel ashamed- not that he ever would). There's been one to many times when reader didn't know where the next meal would come from, but she made sure Dabi never went to sleep hungry (she would work as a server at parties and would sneak some of the food into her bag for him). Reader fell sick quite a few times because of how overworked she was, but she never had the money to get herself some medicine. However, she always found a way to get Dabi the very expensive ointment for his burns and scars. She always wore used clothes and sewed them with patches wherever they were torn, and she'd outgrown her shoes 2 years ago, but she made sure that Dabi was always well dressed, and he always got brand new clothes (she never wanted him to feel inferior to his peers. She knows how mean kids could be.) And somehow, even with multiple jobs, she made sure to be there for him on all important days, celebrated all his achievements no matter how small, and even when Dabi grows up, he can't wrap his head around why you would do all of that? How could one be so selfless, especially to a stranger she knew nothing about?
In fact, there was even a time when Dabi ran away from your house, feeling guilty for what you'd been putting yourself through for him and how he had hurt your feelings after a stupid argument. He was in shock when he saw you running around the city looking for him, tears in your eyes as you asked people to help you find "my son!" And when you finally found him, the first thing that came out of your mouth was,
"Are you okay?"
Not anger, Not rage for worrying you- but genuine concern for his well being. Dabi all but ran into your arms and broke down, sobbing into your chest and he never had to say it out loud for you to understand how sorry he was.
From there on, you two had a good relationship. I could see that perhaps reader finds a stable job as a barista at a cafe, and a part time tutor (because she is well educated), and perhaps she had been hired by Tomura's parents to teach him and his sister, and you were the best teacher they had. Then one day, Tomura accidentally murdered his family and you only found him because you were on your way to tutor him. The trauma in his eyes, in his face- it was all enough for you to understand that he didn't want this to happen. So, you reach for him, but be he jumps back, claiming that he'd kill you. You don't know what happened, but you talked to him, calmed him down, and when you finally reached for him, he didn't pull back. And when you didn't turn into a pile of ashes (maybe because of a hidden quirk, maybe because you had calmed him down), he all but jumped into your arms, wanting all the warmth and comfort you could provide. You of course, took him home and didn't contact the police because that would've turned everything to shit for Tomura and he was far to young to be experiencing cops and courts and investigations, who yo were sure would find a way to incriminate him and send him go jail or worse. You had introduced Dabi to Tomura and told him that he would staying here.
Dabi being jealous and protective of you, snarled "For how long?"
You smiled and rubbed Tomura's back in a comforting manner. "For as long as he'd like."
While reader being poor and helpless and working herself to the bone would be the typical plot to go, how about a reader who is rich- Maybe a year after she adopted Dabi, she has suddenly got a hefty inheritance from a distant relative. The first thing she does is legally adopt Dabi (with his consent of course), then adds his name in her will (he was very moved by it, but he cried alone in his room). Then Tomura comes along, and she also adopts him legally and the two "brothers" are always fighting with each other, only stopping around you because of how gravely it upsets you when they don't get along. From a very young age, you had told them that the two of them are family and they always have to stick together, have each other's backs no matter what. So while they act amicably in front of you, the moment you leave the room, they are at each other's necks.
Now that you're rich and the boys are all grown up, you decide its time for you to find love. But Dabi and Tomura have other plans.
One thing that they do agree upon is that no man or woman you date is ever gonna be good for you. So all of your dates are always gonna end up missing or ghosting you. I can also see them actively trying to prevent you from adopting more kids because they don't like to share, they don't want other greedy assholes (aka poor orphans) taking advantage of your kindness.
Maybe after you give them control of your company and decide to retire and go on a vacation, Dabi and Tomura will hire men to keep tabs on you, protect you, put a tracker on you so that they know where you are at all times. And when they find out that you're on a vacation with a "secret lover", their blood boils, more so when they find out that your s/o has proposed to you and you agreed.
IMMEADIATELY you're flown back home by their bodyguards, and you can struggle all you want, their not letting you go (although Dabi and Tomura had ordered them not to a hurt a hair on your head. You're just too soft and fragile). When you're brought home and find out that it was your own sons who did this, you are furious, yelling at them that that they can't do this.
Dabi narrows his eyes at you. "Of course, we can. We're looking out for you because you don't know whats good for you. Like lying to us and going out with some measly pervert."
Your eyes widened. How did he know? "You've been spying me-?"
"Its for your own good." Tomura said, cupping your cheek. "You're old now, so you can't take care of yourself. Just let us do it. Listen to us."
You recoiled back from him, confusion evident on your as you looked back and forth between them. What are they talking about?
"I- I don't understand this- you shouldn't be spying on me! I'm an adult! I can take care of myself. And who I date or see is not your concern! I'm well equipped to make my own decisions! And then to have me dragged here with no explanation! What would s/o think?! You've embarrassed me in front of him!" You scolded them but they both shared a look. "I'm gonna have to call him back, but this isn't over!"
"You don't have to worry about him anymore, mom." Tomura said, and you began to worry when he didn't offer an explanation.
"What do you mean?"
Dabi spoke this time, face stoic as ever. "He's been taken care of."
What?
The longer they remained silent, the more the daunting realisation hit you.
"I- no..."
Seeing the terrified look on your face, Dabi attempted to comfort you by grabbing your forearms.
"He's been taken care of. You won't ever see him again."
"No- no!" You began to struggle in his arms, trying to break free but he towered over you and held you tighter. "No! You didnt- no! Let go! LET GO! LET GO! LET GO! LET GO-!"
Tears slipped from your eyes at the silent confession of a heinous crime came from your sons, the news being too much as you lost consciousness, both from the shock and from the tiredness.
Dabi lifted you up and began walking to your room, tucking you under the covers as you felt them kiss your cheek, too tired to even flinch away from the murderers.
Perhaps they're right. Maybe you are too old now.

BEST YGO GIRL: ROUND 4, GROUP C
Match 2
Tumblr media
please use this as an opportunity to say why you like a character, not why you don't.
Propaganda under the cut!
Mana
mana is the apprentice to mahad and her ka is dark magician girl. she is the basis for apprentice illusion magician. she is the first one to inherit the millennium ring after mahad, while it allegedly has yami bakura in it. her fate is left up to the viewer. another fun fact is she teases atem like he's her big brother and hides in vases. she makes fun of set's stupid hat and turns it in magical hats. she's a fun loving child who is put in a position where she needs to fight a war. and like. she's my daughter please vote for her.
Isis Ishtar
gorgeous, very caring sister, strong duelist, and the only woman to ever make Seto Kaiba squirm
anyways. not only as mentioned above is she the first woman to make kaiba squirm, but she was by all means going to beat him if not for the millennium rod's millennium interference. yami marik admits that she's a strong duelist with a strategy that's been working for literal years-- and given that she's not like, a professional duelist, thats pretty impressive
she also recently got some really cool meta bumps and let me point out that an "ishizu deck" now includes obelisk the tormentor-- which we knew she had prior to giving it to kaiba, but i think it only solidifies my opinion that she very much could wield an Egyptian God Card, an exclusive little club for top tier duelists
as a character she presents herself with an amazing amount of poise and grace, shes compassionate and kind and stays with mai and serenity even though she only just met them. shes struggling through living the past 5 years of her life drowning in guilt for her family's tragedy just because she wanted to make her little brother happy and shadi is a fucking liar. shes foretold her own death and marches towards it grimly but with so much love in her heart. and even then shes 20 years old and holds an important position in the egyptian government that typically requires a doctorate degree AND has been dealing with mariks off-and-on bullshit entirely by her lonesome. she also likes to flex her fortunetelling a little which is awesome i think she should do that more that scene where she tells the guy exactly how the stele is being transported was so everything
speaking of shes got such an attitude. "is it your destiny to waste my time?" iconic. never seen before will never be seen again. watch the duel between her va and joeys its so fucking funny
shes excult. shes doesnt flinch in the face of god nor death. seto kaiba and yami marik respect her. shes so sad and so sweet and battle city couldnt have happened without her.
also her parallels with kaiba are what motivate kaiba to give yugi the card he needed to beat marik.
kaiba, in duelist kingdom, was ready to jump off a ledge if yugi didnt let him through to face pegasus while trying to save mokuba out of sheer desperation to save his little brother. he KNOWS what that dedication feels like and the iron kind of will you need to have to make that kind of gamble. isis is being so fucking legit with what shes saying and he respects that and her judgement enough to change his mind and not only watch the duel, but give yugi a card that eventually helps him win, even if he has no real confidence in the odds. but theres a CHANCE, which is the same thing he taught her when he beat her in a duel. the layers its her faith that moves him to act. which is so crazy
anyway vote isis shes my best friend forever and a real rep for all the 20 year olds who honest to god did not sign up for this bullshit

Chapter 6
Summary: Barty is avoiding Y/n who is avoiding Sirius and Remus, teen drama at its best. But what happens when a certain someone's younger brother finds out who hurt his best friend
Warnings: swearing, teenagers are kind of dicks sometimes
Notes: sorry this jumps a lot between different characters, there was a lot of stuff I was excited to add into this chapter
Word count: 2,481
It had been two weeks since the Library incident, meaning it had been two whole weeks since Y/n last spoke to Barty. Though it wasn't by her own choice, no the Ravenclaw seemed to be avoiding her. Which is surprisingly easy when you aren't in the same house and share very few classes. Though Barty wasn't the only one avoiding people. Y/n herself had also been avoiding Sirius and Remus, much to a certain sandy haired boy's annoyance. For two weeks Remus had been trying to apologise to Y/n, which is very hard when said girl does nothing but glare right through him as if he didn't exist. What annoyed Remus more than being ignored by Y/n, was how unhelpful Sirius had been since that night in the library. Sirius had seemed more cruel towards her, making harsh remarks and jokes loud enough for the girl to hear. They always made James and Peter laugh, though Remus knew it was because they didn't understand the severity of their situation. And as much as Remus was angry with Sirius he couldn't pretend he himself was innocent, he was just as cruel to the friends of the poor girl who only wanted to get to know the two.
It was again that time of day when Remus would attempt another apology, he thought even if she didn't really want to accept his apology, It would eventually wear her down enough to do so. People didn't often seem to harbour guilt for things they believed were the right thing to do. So as soon as Remus saw the Slytherin girl he was looking for, and thankfully she was alone, he ran over to her calling out her name, making her stop dead in her tracks. With a roll of her eyes Y/n spun around to come face to face with one of the boys she'd been trying to avoid, unfortunately his constant harassment almost made her want to accept his apology so he'd just leave her alone. “What the hell do you want Lupin?” The girl asked in a cold and flat tone “I wanted to apologies for what happened in the library Y/n, I shouldn't have said any of those things” the girl scoffed at the tall boy “I agree, you definitely shouldn't have ever said those things to my friends, and I still don't forgive you” she turned to leave but stopped at the pathetically miserable noise Remus let out “Look Lupin it's been 14 days and you've apologised 32 times already, that's more than twice a day. So take a hint and leave me the fuck alone”.
She tried to leave, Remus though didn't like that and grabbed her wrist to stop her from leaving. She whipped her head back and tried pulling away from the tall boy “let go of me Lupin” her voice was cold and almost threatening. “Will you please just listen to me Y/n” the girl tried pulling away once more “I told you no, I don't-” Y/n was cut off by the hand around her wrist tightening, it felt as though her wrist would shatter under his grip “ow! Remus let go please, you're hurting me” her voice wavered and cracked, unable to hide her obvious fear of the boy's sudden change in behaviour. Y/n struggled more in his grip before finally getting free from the boy she assumed had major anger issues. “You know what, maybe my mother was right, you dirty half-bloods are all the same, don't try to talk to me again Lupin. I mean it!” Her voice edged away from the fear it held mere seconds ago to an icy and deep tone. Before the tanned boy could say anything else, Y/n turned around and finally walked off, leaving the boy alone and completely gutted.
“Merlin she's such an uptight bitch” Sirius said to the boy next to him, the said ‘uptight bitch’ he was referring to was none other than Y/n L/n. The only reason he was saying those things, was simply because after another rejection, Remus went sulking to his best friend. Said boy was currently buried under his thick blankets, sulking in his own self pity, Sirius never liked when his friends were upset, no matter what caused it. Sirius was also an incredibly impulsive person, which the two didn't mix very well. “You know what if she doesn't want to talk to you that's fine, I don't care anyway what someone like her thinks of either of us” his harsh words were followed by the loud noise of his stomping feet. Remus peeked his head out of his blanket just enough to see what the raven haired boy was up to, Sirius was currently shoving open the large window beside his bed.
The boy moved over to his bed picking up the enchanted green vase sitting on his bedside table, which for the past two weeks had been the only thing keeping the flowers alive. The angry boy made his way back over to the window, looking out before his attention was directed back to Remus “what are you doing?”. Sirius let out an annoyed huff “getting rid of this stupid thing, if she doesn't want to be ‘friends’ then I'm not going to keep some stupid reminder of her next to my bed” and with that he let the flowers drop out of the window, a quiet smash being heard a few seconds later. Sirius seemed to think that if he couldn't see it, it was no longer his problem. With that said and done, and the window now shut, the grey eyed boy left the room, his anger still burning. Remus just stayed laying in his bed staring up at his own vase, a small ache in his chest as he looked at them.
It had been an entire two days since Y/n was last harassed by Remus, it had been a good experience for the girl, quiet and less annoying. Though she couldn't feel too happy about it, she was still unable to get Barty to talk to her. Not even when she asked Evan and Regulus to help her so many times, he just seemed to avoid everyone and everything. It started with just not talking to her and the rest of their friends, then he was skipping a few meals here and there, and then he stopped showing up to the few classes they shared together, and he stopped going to any meals all together. Y/n heart ached for her friend, she only managed to get passing glimpses of him as he walked through the halls, but even from afar she could tell he didn't look good. Barty seemed more sickly looking, his skin was more pale than usual and he had dark bags under his eyes. Another thing she noticed was how his clothes had been seeming more baggy then his usual.
On the other hand the one thing she didn't seem to worry about was how rude Sirius was towards her recently, she couldn't care less about him or his stupid friend. Well that's what she was telling herself, but no matter how many times she thought that it didn't stop the gut wrenching feeling that twisted her stomach when she saw the green vase that once held flowers she gifted to Sirius, shattered against the ground. The once beautiful flowers were now dried up and dead. All she could do was stare at it thinking about how even though she was beyond angry with him, she never once had a thought to get rid of the gift he gave to her. But perhaps she was wrong to think that. Y/n looked down at her hand, the ring she once thought was pretty now left a sour taste in her mouth, she hated Sirius for that.
The next day when James left his room early for quidditch practice, he had tripped up on his way out, only just managing to catch himself on the door. Peter, who was a very light sleeper and woke up when his friend was getting ready, watched James with a slight bit of worry that was mostly covered by joy at watching his best friend ‘almost’ eat shit “you alright there Bambi?” The joy he felt was obvious in his tone “well I'm certainly awake now Pete” the two quietly laughed together, hoping to not wake up the other two sleeping boys. James looked down to the floor to find out what he tripped on, he was expecting it to be the rug that covered the hallway, thinking that it was probably pulled up by their door. What he saw though was what appeared to be a shoe box, the name Sirius written on the lid. The curly haired boy seemed to completely ignore the fact he had quidditch practice in 10 minutes. As he picked the book up off the floor, he brought it into his room and shut the door behind him.
“What's that?” Peter nodded towards the book James held “dunno, it's for Sirius” the two boys looked over at their sleeping friend “reckon we should wake him?” Peter asked unsure about what to do. James considered it for a few seconds before placing the box on the bedside table of said sleeping boy. He gently shook his friend awake “James I swear if you're asking me to come to your practice again, I'll punch you” James laughed at the tired boys insult “no no Siri, there was a box outside our door with your name on it, almost tripped over it” Sirius couldn't help but let out a tired laugh at his friends misery. “What's in the box?” James shrugged, pulling it off the table and handing it over to Sirius, who was now sitting up. Sirius gently opened the box as James watched over his shoulder, the box was filled with deep red tissue paper. Sirius pulled out the first few layers and felt his heart sink into his gut. In the box was a smaller wooden box, the same one decorated with stars he had gifted to Y/n. there was also a single yellow carnation, just starting to wilt around the edges and seemed to droop slightly when held up. But what made the sad feeling in his stomach bubbled into pure dread was the dark green jewellery box, Sirius knew what sat inside, it was obvious. It was decorated with a crest and motto he was all too familiar with ‘Toujours Pur’. A sick part of him hoped it was a joke, that if he opened the box he'd find nothing but a note, explaining how it was just a cruel prank. He clung to that hope as he slid the box open, the beautiful ring seemed to gleam even in the dim room.
“Wow looks like someone has a secret admirer; some kind of trinket, a flower and even an expensive looking ring” James said as his hand landed on Sirius's shoulder. Peter stood up from his desk, walking over to check out the contents of the gift “holy shit that looks incredibly expensive, whoever it was seems to like you a whole lot” James nodded in agreement “yeah I mean not even my dad got mum something that expensive” Sirius just let out a strained laugh, the two boys just assumed he was nervous about the very pricey display of affection. “hmm, yeah that must really like me” with that Sirius packed the stuff back away into the box and slid it under his bed “well it's a Saturday, so I'm going back to sleep, and I, hopefully, won't wake up until mid-day, have a good practice Prongs” the boy threw himself back down onto his bed, pulling the sheet over him. James and Peter shared a smile, unaware of how miserable their friend was.
Though Sirius wasn't the only miserable one, Y/n herself was also sulking. Though instead of inside the confines of her room she was sat on the top floor of the Astronomy tower, no one ever came to a place meant for stargazing during the day, so it meant she would be left alone. Well mostly, the only other person who would ever think to even come here during the day, let alone on the weekend, was Regulus. After all it was the place they met, it was always the place the both of them went to if they were upset about something. Reglus slowly moved towards the crying girl, gently placing his hand on her back as he sat down next to her “oh mon chéri, what's wrong?” His voice was soft and gentle, his hand rubbing up and down against her back to soothe the girl. “It's just Barty still won't talk to me, no matter how hard I try and it's all Sirius's fault” the small boy froze up, his face hardening at the thought of his brother hurting his friend “what did my brother do to him” Y/n sniffled and looked up at Regulus, her sad eyes full of tears “he said such horrible things to him, and so did his stupid half-blood friend Lupin” she wiped her eye before continuing “they called him all sorts of things, like a pathetic Ravenclaw, and a pathetic pureblood, they even had the audacity to call him Evans pet bird” she shook her head “and then Sirius had the brilliant idea to throw out those stupid flowers I got him, and I mean literally, he threw them out of a window I think” Regulus eyebrows furrowed, he was beyond angry, violent thoughts of yelling at his brother filled his mind. “And after that I gave him back that god awful ring, if he can't respect me or my friends, then I simply refuse to marry him”.
The boy's face instantly relaxed as his eyes shot down to Y/n's left hand, and sure enough, the ring was nowhere to be seen. Quickly his thoughts of him yelling at Sirius was replaced by thoughts of his mother, she'd be beyond furious if she found out he ruined the engagement. He was so incredibly angry at Sirius, how dare he hurt two of his best friend's who never did anything to him, how dare he hurt them so much they stopped hanging around each other, that they both stopped smiling as much, that they cried harder than he'd ever seen before. Regulus wanted Sirius to feel the pain his friends felt, and he knew just how to do so. “Don't worry, I'll make sure to take care of him for you alright, he won't hurt you again,I promise Y/n” the young girl leant into his arms, tears starting to pour down her face again.

So I watched kingdom of the planet of the apes yesterday and I gotta say I really enjoyed it! It has its flaws but if there's a sequel I will definitely watch lmao I have to talk about Mae's character so SPOILERS:
There is still a lot of mystery surrounding her. I BOTH liked and disliked her character. I get that a lot of people hate what she did with the flood but at the same time there was A LOT going on in the scene, not excusing what she did, she needs some accountability for that. Prior to that scene she had told Noa that he would have to move fast; as in find his clan, so they can get out but proximus was already waiting for them (how tho? Unless I missed something) She was helping Noa, Soona, and Anaya, until proximus and his apes ruined it. Proximus somehow was already waiting out the doors, with Noa's mom, his apes, and got inside. He even threatened both Soona and Mae, putting poor Noa in the middle of it. Mae took action and shot the ape who held Soona hostage.
About the flood, she didn't want to do it because of the circumstances they're in at the moment, she even told noa she's sorry but she CAN'T let proximus have it. I agree with her on that part: those weapons do not need to be in the hands of someone like him. And hey now not even humans will be able to access them either lol Proximus is right about humans tho they're selfish and can't be trusted, Mae proved that. But I understand where she comes from or at least i think i do. She witnesses a hostile environment where humans are hunted or are referred as pests. Her group was killed and they were people she cared about. Then she meets proximus, who is not only killing humans but enslaving his own kind. I'm guessing she grew up in the bunker she goes at the end and was taught "bad apes" and whatnot. Her mission must've been the first opportunity she had to go outside i think? Living in a bunker secluded from the outside world does not seem fun lmao The observatory scene that happens with Noa? It mustve been the first time for her to witness the night sky up close. She's tough I'll give her that, she's the only one left in her group and is determined to finish her mission no matter what because she cares about humanity and it's understandable. I did not like that she tells Noa that where he lives was a place for humans not meant for apes. I mean sure it mustve been a place for humans at one point but she has yet to understand that the world won't go back to how it was and humanity can always rebuild somewhere else if they get the chance to leave the bunkers.
Another thing to point out; Mae cares about noa, raka, was friendly with Anaya and she even saved Soona. I really hope we get to see more of her backstory to understand her view on apes and human dominance. When she went to say goodbye to Noa, I don't think she thought of killing him but more of a precaution in case they end up fighting because of what she did and well why would she kill him in front of his clan? She wouldn't be able to finish her mission if the eagle clan jumps her for killing noa lmao Unless they were in a secluded area then it makes sense, but I could be wrong also. Raka and Noa were the first apes she encountered who were nice to her, that's why I think she'll have character development and be even more conflicted because "apes are bad" or so she thinks. What I think is that she'll change her mind, and maybe even guide humans and convince them that they can coexist with apes.
She's not evil, she had a soft spot for Raka and Noa but for now her mission comes first, she's conflicted at the end of the movie, but still determined at least for now. I can't wait to see more of her in the next movies!

I'm Scared, Hold Me // Yoosung Kim x Reader
Tumblr media
FEMALE READER.
SUMMARY: Watching a horror movie sounded like the perfect excuse for cuddling.
WORD COUNT: 1628 words.
GENRE: Fluff.
WARNING: Cringe nicknames. Because people in love do and say cringe stuffs. Also, possible grammatical and typographical errors ahead.
♡ writing commissions | art commissions ♡
A/N: It has been a year or two since I wrote this... ig its about time I post it. I had some obsession with Yoosung back then, hehe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yoosung couldn't think straight. He was nervous. He was of course very excited too, even though it wasn't the first time seeing you—but it was his first time watching a movie with you. Unsurprisingly, people like him would feel nervous due to overthinking what's going to happen between you two during the movie. Especially if it were romance... But apparently that wasn't the case. Though he badly wished it was.
You two were going to watch a horror movie. It's not like he had a choice, anyway. When you told him you preferred watching scary movies he felt something drop to his gut. Horror movies?! But.. but how could he get a chance to slip his hands through yours and lock eyes with you during the most romantic part of the movie so that you two could actually do what the protagonists were doing and—oh boy. He didn't want to disappoint you so he just acquiesced.
He was quick to open the door after you had knocked. Flustered with you jumping into his arms, he sort of malfunctioned before he returned the hug. Not too tightly as he didn't want to make you feel uncomfortable.
"I brought extra snacks for us!"
"O-Oh! But Seven already spared us a few Honey Buddha Chips and I've got some more popcorn and my mom also cooked for us.."
"Yoosung, you're forgetting one thing!"
"Oh—right!! Pizza..! How could I?!"
"Not to worry! Your knight in shining armor slash princess has brought two boxes of pizza for her baby!"
"Baby?"
"Are you not letting me come in?"
"Of course not [Y/N]! I mean—come on in!" Yoosung chuckled, nervousness evident on his tone.
Eventually the movie commenced. Initially you two were sitting with a decent space between you in the sofa but somehow before the opening credits had ended, Yoosung had found his way right beside you. And when you rested your head on his shoulder and placed your palm on his chest, he swore he had never been as red as during that day.
It was so romantic, thought he, if you were to minus the horrors currently unfolding on the monitor.
With a heap of other snacks in front of you which Yoosung had apparently forgotten existed as he was busy trying not to freak out during the first few minutes and break his manly side in front of you, you stared intently at the screen while finishing half the box of pizza.
"Oh no! Don't believe him he's just pranking you! And unknowingly putting you in danger!! Don't go in ther—oh no don't be so stupid!"
Yoosung peeled his eyes from the monitor and looked at you, a tad shocked to see you looking at him with a certain smile on your face. He was torn between thinking of it as cute or suspicious...
You giggled. "You know, the main character reminds me a lot of you."
"Eh?! But I'm not that gullible. Am I?"
"Oh, sure, chocolate milk." Yoosung shunned your gaze with his face beet red. "My cutie Yoosung." You continued, poking his cheek. He rubbed his nape and pouted, reluctantly admitting, "I guess I do find myself stumbling on pranks most of the time.. but at least now I know better not to go into an abandoned wing in case Seven tells me another one of his nonsense!"
The moment the protagonist entered the abandoned wing of the building, the door shut behind him with a loud thud. At the same time you two heard the creaking of the door.
And it wasn't part of the movie.
"Who's there?!" Yoosung squeaked and wrapped his arms around you—maybe a little too tightly—and kept on turning his head, albeit too afraid to actually look at the door.
"Yoosung, it's me!"
"Oh, mom..."
"Sorry.. I didn't interrupt anything, did I? I was just wondering if you wanted some drinks."
"Oh.. sure!"
His mother left two more bottles of soda in front of you before leaving. Once you two were alone, Yoosung realized that he didn't stop hugging you. Poor boy panicked and blushed furiously.
"I-I'm sorry [Y/N]! Did I squeeze you too hard? I'm sorry! And it's not like I was scared. Definitely not!! I just wanted to protect you in case there really was a gho—wah!! [Y/N]..!!"
There was a jumpscare. Well—it looked like one to him. Yoosung clung onto you and hid his face on your neck, his hair tickling you which made you giggle and blush furiously. You ruffled his hair and sighed fondly, "Calm down Yoosung. That's just his friend, not the ghost."
"What..?" Very slowly and reluctantly, he looked at the monitor and let out a huge sigh of relief. And just seconds later he was a fumbling mess of blushes and apologies again. "[Y/N] I'm so so sorry! Ahh.. nooo.. That wasn't very manly of me, was it? I promise to do better! It won't happen again!"
Oh, this adorable boy you so deeply loved. Sure. You grinned. But you both knew well that it was a lie, for everytime there was a scene that his brain had identified a 'jumpscare' his body would automatically attach itself into yours and he'd cover his face with his hands. Other than the crunchy munching of those Honey Buddha Chips and the sound from the movie, his squeaks filled the room.
You were having a hard time controlling your laughter. You didn't want to tease him.. Oh, poor boy! You almost took pity on your boyfriend. But to see him like that—in a state you perceived as absolutely adorable, with his hands resting on your shoulder and unintentionally squeezing them while he tried to cower behind you—really, would anyone want that moment to end? Reckon he would just have to forgive you for 'torturing' him by making him watch something that scared him to the bones. And, of course, he would forgive you for this.
Anything for you.
Although you were the one who suggested to watch a horror movie in the first place, you couldn't say that some parts didn't scare you. As it got closer to the climax, you started fidgeting your fingers, which Yoosung soon took notice. Yoosung looked at you, and a tad hesitant, he wrapped his arms around you. The tension ebbed from your body as you allowed yourself to succumb in his warm embrace. It was tentative, his hold, at first. But as moments passed and more horrors frightened the both of you, his touch eventually gave in and turned into something tight, sure, and something that felt like home, right where you belonged.
He wasn't even watching anymore. It had become a turmoil there and your occasional squeaks told him that the scene unfolding wasn't something he'd relish to see. And without heed you placed your hand above his, rubbing gently on that soft skin which caught his attention. He returned the favor and grabbed the opportunity to bring your hand underneath his—that way he could share more of his warmth with you, and that way which also allowed him to weave his fingers through yours, causing an eruption of red on both your cheeks.
"Are you okay [Y/N]?" He whispered. You looked at him—his eyes, his lips—then back to his eyes.
"I'm scared, hold me."
Yoosung was more than happy to oblige. He'd become rather bold by then. You closed your eyes as butterflies manifested themselves inside your stomach from the way he brought you sitting on his lap, his arms around your waist and his chin on your shoulder. His fingers found their way to gently comb your hair and bring them forth over your right shoulder, exposing your nape. He thought of doing it—hesitating over and over again until he gathered enough courage which spilled all over his chest, and then he was peppering your nape with the gentlest of pecks, his lips carefully grazing over your then shivering skin, the touch nothing but a lick of the wind, a flicker. The butterflies multiplied, and the heat burned your cheeks, your nape, and your ears.
The pleasant sensation contrasted starkly with the gore afoot on the screen, the turmoils unfolding in the movie. But they were paid with no heed, and in fact had been reduced into but little to no sounds by the remote which Yoosung had taken a hold of with one hand, while the other remained wrapped around your stomach, the warmth of his palm permeating your skin as he made circles with it in a careful, loving manner.
Horror movie long forgotten, you two settled on ensconcing yourselves on one another, laying on the couch, limbs interweaving, fingers interlaced.
Four words, and they were all it took for what he had been surreptitiously dreaming of and what he thought was only possible if you two had settled prior with a romance movie, to happen.
Four words, and a horror movie, and suddenly the idea of the latter wasn't so terrible anymore. Yoosung could live with that, as long as more opportunities of moments like this could present themselves before him.
Moments of you laying on his chest, delightfully humming and tracing patterns on his skin—patterns you could only see. The silence was cozy, brimming with affection. The pizza was only remembered when it was already tepid, and it took longer than it would've had been consumed if you two weren't so entangled with each other, laughing, giggling, and smiling at the sheer fact that you were placed in an intimate, comfortable position.
Yoosung smiled to himself, wishing that perhaps, even at times you aren't scared, even at the most arbitrary moments, he would get the chance to hold you like this.
Close to his heart.
Closer to his soul.

Suruga Monkey – An Analysis
What immediately jumps out to me here is something that is more emphasized in the novels than the anime – how Kanbaru mirrors Senjougahara. Her initial attitude towards Araragi involves her actively pursuing him in order to deliver flattery to the point of mockery.
Compare to Senjougahara’s initial attitude, where she used vicious insults as a way to keep him away from her. Araragi even speculates that Senjougahara’s personality in middle school was more similar to Kanbaru’s now, causing her to emulate it.
Here we can see the way in which this arc differs from the previous: Kanbaru’s issue isn’t that she’s shutting others out, it’s that she’s pursuing them too aggressively. Her opening heavily features the image of Senjougahara and to a lesser extent Araragi. They are the object of her obsession, the thing she yearns for.
Tumblr media
It’s why I find the motif of her running to be such an interesting one – as a kouhai character she’s a step behind from the start, trying to catch up. Even as a kid her initial wish to get better at running was an attempt to catch up, to be seen as an equal.
But because of the oddity’s effects (or what she thought its effects were), she couldn’t let anyone catch up to her, either. She couldn’t actually race Senjougahara in the same sport, for fear of losing. She went to basketball instead, a partitioned-off space – a court – where she didn’t have to worry about hurting anyone else.
Tumblr media
Now, doesn’t this prefigure quite neatly the way she gives up on saving Senjougahara, deliberately distancing herself from her? She claims that she does it because Senjougahara asks it of her, that she’ll be okay if it’s helping Senjougahara, but her later jealousy over Araragi shows that this isn’t the case.
Kanbaru says that it was “all her ego”, that she was “alright as long as she was happy”, and what I think this means is that she was scared of trying to help Senjougahara again, thought another rejection would be too painful. That’s why she stayed away, and that’s the difference she sees between herself and Araragi. In a way you can say she didn’t enter the race because she was afraid of losing.
Tumblr media
The Rainy Devil is about hidden dark sides, the most violent expression of one’s true desires. Kanbaru’s outward affability towards Araragi, her self-sacrificial willingness to have the arm cut off – these are just reflections and repressions of deep jealousy. Kanbaru is truly a very greedy person.
In her own way, though, so is Senjougahara Hitagi.
Tumblr media
Her role in this affair is interesting, as we once again open with a sequence largely about Araragi and Senjougahara’s relationship rather than this arc’s main girl. Araragi is interested in the progress Senjougahara has made since her condition was cured – she’s no longer carrying a stapler around, for example. In other matters, though – she’s still building walls around herself, reading alone in the corner of the classroom.
He wonders if she can’t somehow pick up some of the things that she lost – and it just so happens that he’s learnt of the relationship between her and Kanbaru from middle school. It’s an overstepping of bounds, a needless intervention, an unwanted favour. Senjougahara herself flatly denies any interest in reconnecting with Kanbaru. But then again, doesn’t Kanbaru herself do the same? Both pretend they’re better off never coming into contact again while secretly yearning to do so.
Then they do. They meet once again and the story is neatly resolved. That’s the end, we’re all done here, folks.
Tumblr media
I mean, in a way it’s somewhat anti-climactic isn’t it? Araragi complains about being completely useless to the point of becoming comic relief, and he’s not entirely wrong.
His efforts to resolve the situation led to exactly nothing. As Oshino says, all people can do is save themselves.
Kanbaru’s wish to the Rainy Devil can’t be granted as long as Senjougahara is around. As long as killing Araragi would ruin Kanbaru’s relationship with Senjougahara, it can’t happen. The frontside and backside of the wish are in the end equally important – it was born out of hatred for Araragi, but that itself was born out of love for Senjougahara.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oshino asks why he tried to help Kanbaru, despite her trying to kill him. His response is basically that he gets it. It was done out of love for Senjougahara, so it’s forgivable for him. He’s a little too trusting, a little too inclined to see the positive in people, a little too slow to catch the hidden meanings in people’s words, the hidden darkness in their stories, but that’s not exactly a bad thing, is it? He’s not wrong about Kanbaru, not really.
Tumblr media
So he tries to do an unwanted favour for Kanbaru – and it really is unwanted, she’s not exactly happy to be pitied by someone that she sees as a rival in love – and tries to resolve the problem without involving Senjougahara. He doesn’t tell her that it was Kanbaru who attacked him. He gets accused of breaking his promise to not lie to her, and in the novel it specifies that he didn’t forget or anything. He quite deliberately broke a promise to Senjougahara for Kanbaru’s sake.
We see hints of his self-sacrificing tendencies going too far. For a moment he accepts his death at Kanbaru’s hand as a reasonable solution to the situation, not considering the effects it would have on Senjougahara.
In the end he does something stupid, gets the innards kicked out of him, and Senjougahara forgives him, because she truly does find that stupid desire to help anyone and everyone quite charming.
Tumblr media
It’s a needless intervention on his part, but it didn’t accomplish nothing. Senjougahara just went and made up with Kanbaru on her own, but she wouldn’t have been there in the first place if his life wasn’t at risk.
Even if Senjougahara and Kanbaru had made up independently, it wouldn’t have mattered if Araragi himself wasn’t capable of forgiving Kanbaru’s murderous impulses.
When fighting Kanbaru, Araragi says that she won’t do. When she offers to replace Senjougahara as his girlfriend, he says that you can’t become someone else, and you can’t take their place. It’s a peaceful resolution that only works because of the nature of all three involved.
Tumblr media
What the Rainy Devil says about identity is interesting. In a way, it offers to make you a different person: someone who can win a race, someone who can be the only person by Senjougahara’s side. It literally transforms you into a monster, taking over your body in exchange for granting its wishes.
But in a different way, who you are doesn’t change at all. You didn’t get any faster, you just beat up the other competitors. The desire to do that was within you from the beginning, the Rainy Devil didn’t change anything there. You can blame the Devil itself for provoking that desire in the first place, but it’s ruthlessly fair, not delivering anything that wasn’t within the bounds of your original wish.
Tumblr media
If the moral of using the Monkey’s Paw is to accept fate, not try to reach for more than you deserve, then the moral of the Rainy Devil is to ‘alter fate with your own hands’, to change yourself into someone who can accomplish your wishes without the help of the arm.
These two find themselves in a perhaps uncomfortable balance within Kanbaru Suruga. She can’t become Senjougahara’s girlfriend no matter how hard she tries, but that doesn’t mean she should give up on ever having a relationship with her at all.
Tumblr media
And that’s all for now. Araragi just straight up says that everyone around him have two sides to them, in this one, and what really impresses me about this series is that it continues to deliver on that premise in a different way each time.
I’m a sucker for duality, for contrast (when I see an author making an explicit textual comparison between two different characters I get a boner) and Monogatari is truly unmatched in this respect.

sorry, this is SUCH a specific ass question (and SO not a criticism of your work i love it!!!) but why do you think both Annie and Finnick would have volunteered? I know 4 is a career district, but I thought that it wasn't until graduating the academy that the tribute-to-be would volunteer - which in turn added to the careers' lethality in general. surely, if someone from the academy volunteered every year, the fear of being actually chosen in the reaping would be way less effective? I had always assumed that the academy was less an established and open school but more under the (official) radar but still known 'workshop' - and that there might not have been a 'graduate' willing to go every year. I think its a really interesting angle to go with that at 14, Finnick put himself in the arena so to speak, rather than an unlucky child who made the best out of a bad situation of being reaped because of his looks and could then never escape fully etc and then Annie?? who seemed frightened in the arena to begin with? hiding not hunting? did she bite off more than she could chew?? when did the game become too real?? what happened if two graduates wanted to volunteer at the same time?? much to chew on, it's not that deep, sorry, but I just love having a wee discussion xoxo
nooo it's an AMAZING question and also like, i love nothing more than talking about the INSANE thoughts i have about thg as well as the EVEN MORE INSANE thoughts i have while writing my fanfics so i am SO HAPPY to discuss!!!
so the reason i think they both volunteered is honestly bc i think like... it makes it even more interesting?? so obviously i have reasons for doing what i did in the fanfic and i also just have some general thoughts about 4 as a career district so i'll try to answer my general thinking first and then explain why i did what i did in my story
so -- generally i just think 4 being a career district is SUPER interesting given the winners that we have being finnick, annie, and mags. because katniss tells us in the first book that 1, 2, and 4 are the career districts but i think it's clear from the jump that 4 is kind of the dark horse in that lineup -- because even in book 1, she focuses WAY more on the tributes from 1 and 2 as the "careers" that she's the most intimidated by and the most threatening to her -- we don't really get all that much about district 4 in book 1 at all, so it kind of piques your interest -- because if 4 is *as much* of a career district as 1 and 2, why don't we get anything about those tributes like we do on the level of marvel/glimmer/cato/clove?? we DON'T!
and then ofc we get book 2 and the first person from 4 we meet is finnick, and at first he SEEMS like he's just another capitol pet -- but the more we get to know him, the more we realize he ISN'T, he's actually probably one of the biggest rebels we have in the entire series. in a way, he's kind of the centerpiece to the whole thing (and he shows up at like, basically the exact midpoint of the series) (i'm thinking, just for example, of the fact that finnick and annie parallel katniss and peeta in so many ways, the way that finnick ends the story by dying but his child lives on meaning the story ends with a child from a fatherless home just as it began, the way finnick is the one to point out katniss' genuine love for peeta, the way finnick is the one that creates "real or not real" by suggesting that it's "what annie does," -- i could go on. but he's genuinely one of the most central characters of the whole series and his introduction sets in motion basically the entire back half of the narrative)
so that's all to say that, i DO think 4 is a career district (bc the text establishes it) but i also think we're sort of meant to understand that it's DIFFERENT -- but it’s up to you in what way you imagine it to be different beyond what we're told in the text (basically that bc their industry is fishing/procuring food, they just have a natural tendency to be like, well fed and fit, which means training for the games is probably a pretty easy thing to do, and they can all swim/handle weapons (similarly to how we see johanna being able to wield an axe -- the industry of the district has a large effect on its people))
SO. kind of how i imagine it in my head, is that while 4 *is* a career district, the idea of winning being an honor is a bit different than it would be in 1 or 2. so when i was brainstorming, basically my thought is like, let's say they do have some kind of training academy (i agree with you that it would probably be less formal than what i wrote it to be, but that's just what i did for that story haha) but my thinking was what if it was kind of like ... a last chance kind of place? as in, it's not a competitive honor like it would be in 1 or 2, but like, if, for example, you're poor or an orphan or your parents need to get rid of you, they send you "away" to train for the games as a way of kind of controlling you. kind of like an extension of the tesserae system that we see enacted in all the districts. because four has enough resources (food-wise) that people probably aren't signing up for tesserae in the same way they would be in twelve, the sort of proxy for it that i imagine would be training for the games. if you win, you get money and glory. if you don't, well, you were probably going to die or have a terrible life anyway, so what's the loss?
because yeah, it IS weird that finnick won at fourteen and annie won despite being "mad" if they have some sort of formal training. but what if the reason they were pushed to volunteer is because they were the best of whatever crop of people that four had that year? (is this making any sense??) like, they were the best because although four might have "careers" they aren't really there because they WANT the glory of winning, but because they have no other choice than to try? (and also on the topic of annie not really fighting -- we actually don't really know that. we only know that she runs off "after" the partner gets beheaded, but we don't know when that was in the games. i kind of imagine it was like, halfway through or something, so she could've been holding it together/fighting fine for the first half but that moment was what tipped her over the edge. just some food for thought.)
so for the purposes of my story, i tried to figure out backstories of both finnick and annie that would've tracked for them being kind of "sent away" to school -- i was kind of thinking of the trope of being sent away to boarding school or some kind of military school that you see often in teen shows -- so in the story i wrote, finnick is this sort of "naughty" kid that gets by on charm and looks and his parents, in their attempt to keep him out of trouble, send him to train for the games as a way to kind of whip him into shape. and then my backstory for annie was that her mother died and her father didn't really want her around, so she put herself into the school as a way to get out of a bad situation. so for both of them, it was a *choice* -- but it wasn't really THEIR choice, it was more like, this was their best option in a world where they had pretty terrible options available to them. so that's how i landed where i did for the fic.
anyway all of that is just like, purely from my head!! i don't think there's much textual evidence to support any reading any which way, but it was one of my impulses when writing the story to try to find a way to fit all of their backstories together in a way that aligned with the very few lines we do get in the books about them -- so i was like, how do i make them career volunteers but ALSO make them make sense as the characters we meet in catching fire and mockingjay? and that was what i endeavored to do!!

mike S1 analysis (kinda)
this isn't a character analysis, its regarding the framing of mike after the events of the upside down.
so i was rewatching S1 for the hundredth time (as one does looking for byler crumbs) and something struck me.
i was on the last few mins of ep8 and i noticed something that was worth telling y'all. or maybe its just that i'm skin deep in delusion lol. also this is LONG.
background : isolated shots of people in a group setting are always used to indicate a deeper connection of that person with the object/person of focus in that particular scene.
thinking about how we got isolated shots of mike like this (when will was found) :
Tumblr media
mike was the focus of this shot
Tumblr media
then we were shown this as the camera zoomed in on mike (telling us that we're seeing his perspective)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
then these infamous shots. the duffers had no reason to highlight mike's eagerness here (other than indicating the fact that mike and will have a very tender relationship diff than the others because we already know that the party love each other very much)
Tumblr media
now I know this shot doesn't have mike in it but STILL we are told through that "Mike laughs". they all were jumping with excitement and were laughing so WHY HIGHLIGHT ONLY MIKE?
Tumblr media
we see mike again when they've all shared hugs and here if you pay attention his expression says a lot. he is bubbling with pure happiness upon seeing will again.
but the intention of showing mike alone in this shot was to feed to our subconscious that mike's relationship with will is stronger (and different) than dustin and lucas's. this next shot proves my point.
Tumblr media
dustin and lucas are blabbering about the events that happened during his disappearance and are shown TOGETHER, thus not having any indication of intimacy that we were shown in the case of mike.
Tumblr media
then will coughs and we see mike (isolated in this shot) again with a little bit of concern on his face. (if the boys were to be shown to have equally strong friendships we would've got all three of them together in this shot but NO. we see a concerned mike and THEN we see a shot of dustin and lucas together). but WHERE do we see a group shot?
Tumblr media
when el comes up in there convo. isn't that interesting? if mike had genuinely romantically fallen for her (as he said in his monologue) wouldn't it make sense for mike to have isolated shots here? but we don't get even a SINGLE shot of mike alone when el is being talked about. we get all three of them as if they all have the same relationship with el (platonic friendship).
then fast forward to the DnD game
Tumblr media Tumblr media
we see will rolling the dice and mike looking at him fondly (pt.1)
EDIT : after reading @dinitride-art 's wonderful lighting analysis i saw another thing worth mentioning here
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@dinitride-art mentioned how in s4 will is always shown in different/soft/angelic lighting whenever we're in mike's perspective.
see how in this will is bathing in light and is literally glowing while dustin and lucas are similarly lit (in low lighting).
and i don't need to say anything about this next one honestly
Tumblr media
this means we're meant to see mike's perspective of will (soft/angelic/glowing) through the lighting choices all along.
Tumblr media
this is when jonathan comes to pick will up and lucas is making fun of dustin. we see mike looking at will fondly(pt.2 coz honestly, this screencap of mike the preceding screencap are EXACTLY the same, as in, mike has the exact same expression on two different occasions (the second one where will isn't even the focus on the convo as opposed to the earlier one))
now one last one
Tumblr media
mike is shown bidding will farewell TWICE, once when him and dustin are saying together and the second time here, as if he wants will to explicitly know that HE is saying goodbye.
the duffers are telling us from the beginning that there is a lot more to mike and will's relationship and they've been building it up from the start.
byler endgame.

It was purely coincidental.. the yelp, the jump, the goosebumps, something you had never expected nor wished to happen.
And what started off as an innocent arm around your waist while you were in the middle of watching a movie at his place, turned into something else entirely.
_ "Oh, what was that?" he blinked innocently -at least at first- until it finally dawned on him that yes, you were extremely ticklish.
_ "What do you mean? It's nothing." you tried wiggling your way out of his hold, but he had you trapped between his freakishly strong arms.
His astonishment shouldn't be surprising as it hasn't been so long since you started dating the pro hero whom you've known most of your life. From classmates to colleagues, your strong feelings for him have remained the same, and when you finally gathered up the courage to ask him out on a date and he replied with a swift 'yes', you were on cloud nine.
_ "I didn't know you were so sensitive, but then again, I haven't had the chance to figure it out yet," he was having fun on his own, pinning you down and hovering over your shaky form as his persistent fingers caressed your sides, relishing the goosebumps appearing in their wake, "interesting.."
You were powerless lying underneath him, hypersensitive body contorting with each soft touch of his warm hands.
_ "Hitoshi, s.. stop.. please!" you whimpered between uncontrollable laughter as you helplessly clawed at his sneaky arms.
And it was at that moment that a mysterious expression appeared upon his features.
_ "Hitoshi?.." what was on mind? You wondered, and your bewilderment was soon to be cleared up..
_ "I love you.." he stated out of the blue, chuckling softly as he watched the breath hitch in your throat.
_ "Hitoshi, what are you saying? you squeezed his arms tighter, looking up at him with pure confusion.
Weren't you in the middle of a tickle war? Wasn't he just making fun of your sensitive body? Was this confession just another way of teasing you?
You opened your mouth to protest against his cheap shot, only to be silenced with a kiss.
His hands were no longer exploring your ticklish sides, and instead cradled your heated cheeks as his lips moved in a rhythmic dance with yours. He nibbled softly on your lower one and slipped his slick tongue into your warm mouth.
He kissed you deeply, swallowing every longing moan of yours, and your mind went completely blank for a moment until he pulled away, "I truly love you," and it was as if he somehow sensed your understandable struggle to believe him, it was his first time uttering those words after all.
_ "Alright quit joking and get off me, we have a movie to watch." you tried pushing him away but he refused to budge.
_ "Does this mean you don't feel the same way about me?" he pouted cutely, cocking his head to the side and you almost gave in to him.
Truth is, you are indeed in love with him, deeply so, and always have been, but never did you have enough confidence in yourself to admit it straightforwardly. And even when you mustered up the courage to ask him out the first time, you played it casual and kept your feelings hidden, because you were simply terrified.
You laughed again -nervously this time- as his persistence made you question everything. What if he was actually serious? What if this whole thing wasn't a joke?
_ "Hitoshi.." you started quietly, but his lips claimed yours once more, slowly and tenderly.
He moved lower and lower after that, pressing gentle kisses along your jaw and neck, and whispering soft "I love you"s between each wet peck.
_ "And I know you love me too y/n, I can tell," he spoke against your trembling shoulder, smiling as you tensed up underneath him, "I can tell from the way you look at me," a kiss on your collarbone, "from the way your eyes light up when you see me," another one on the side of your neck, "and the way you become hysterical and fall apart whenever I get injured during a mission," one more against your quivering throat, "you're not as mysterious as you think you are love," he leaned back to watch your dazed expression, as an amused smirk appeared on that stupid handsome face of his, which frustrated you more than anything else at that moment, "say it clearly, say that you love me." his eyes gleamed like a beast as he groaned his request.
_ "You.. you're delusional."
_ "Am I?" he sat up, biting his lip and running his fingers along your sides before slipping them under your shirt, "let's see about that."
His palms moved against your tummy and traveled up until they reached your breasts, and he hummed blissfully watching you writhe and struggle to keep a straight face.
_ "So stubborn, wouldn't it be easier to just give in and admit your feelings?" he carried on tickling and caressing your flesh, and when that wasn't enough to break you, his lips joined in the torture.
_ "Stop! Stop please I can't breathe!" the sound of your laughter filled the apartment and it was music to his ears.
He flattened his slick tongue against your tingling skin and licked a slow line from your belly button to your chest while his hands kept on tickling your sides. It was too much for you to handle and you surrendered at last.
_ "Okay I give up! Stop it please! I love you asshole! I love you so much so stop it already!" and he did.. mischievous smirk instantly replaced with a joyous smile, and dark piercing stare turned into a loving gaze.
_ "You finally said it," he moved up to face you, and you took in that beautiful expression of his, wishing you would have said those words much sooner.
_ "I love you Hitoshi," and you said it again, giggling softly when he placed a gentle peck on the tip of your nose before stealing your breath away with a deep passionate kiss.

Galaxy bra1n on Tumblr What do you think about this post? I just happened upon it honestly, and it just... made me squirm tbh. I just don't like it. But I'm not sure how to put it into words, so I'd really like to know your thoughts on it if it's not too much of a bother ofc. I don't mean any offense to the OP too, it's just that this take rubs me the wrong way. Really love your blog!
Yeah lol this take is weird for a few reasons. First of all if you don't mind the ship idk why you care about what is a "good" reason to ship them. Characters can and have been shipped together because they looked at each other once and for no reason at all, and that's perfectly fine because like, who cares?
Second, I am so tired of people blaming Zuko for Azula shooting lightning at Katara. Zuko wasn't goading Azula out of stupidity or pride, he was trying to end the fight quickly without involving anyone else using a move he knew Azula had no defense against that he had used once before against his father, to quickly end a fight without violence. He did not think Azula would go for Katara because that is against the rules - that Azula set, because she challenged Zuko - of an agni kai. You could MAYBE say that Zuko should have anticipated that Azula would cheat, but that's always been their dynamic. Zuko is always too honorable and Azula is always lying and cheating. What has changed is that she's no longer able to manipulate Zuko and is revealed to be the lying cheater that she always was, but that still doesn't mean he could have anticipated her aiming at Katara, who had to be exactly in the right place at the right time.
As far as him "doing the bare minimum"...I mean, I do think he would have done it regardless of who it was who was in danger and his relationship to them, but that's not a reason to diminish what he did, either. It takes incredible fortitude to put yourself in harm's way for another person, and fast reflexes to get there in time. Katara herself is frozen to the spot, which is a natural reaction to danger, but if Zuko had done that or not reacted fast enough or even been slightly off, she or he would have died instantly. So let's not belittle what Zuko did in sacrificing his own life to save someone else in an incredible act of selflessness, compassion, and heroism just because we don't like a ship.
Third, these takes always miss WHY it's seen as a shippy moment. It's not only the culmination of a specific narrative arc between the three of them, the thematic motif of Zuko being positioned between what Azula and Katara represent to him, respectively, the choice between selfishness and selflessness, hate and love, cruelty and forgiveness - which alone are pretty damn good reasons to ship them. But not only that, it's the strong emotions that are created from that act. I don't think Zuko jumped in front of the lightning because he loved her. But you can't help but love someone after that, after giving your whole being to another person in that moment. And Katara does the same thing for Zuko. Sure, you could argue that she would have done it anyway, her morals wouldn't allow her to let him die, but the act itself still remains, with all its meaning, and the emotion behind it.
And the narrative goes out of its way to tell us that this is impossible! That a failure to redirect lightning correctly will result in perma-death. That Katara's powers of healing alone weren't enough to bring someone back from that precipice without spirit water. But they do it anyway. They save each other, through sheer force of will, and they can't not be tied to each other after that.
If that's not a good enough reason to ship, I don't know what is. Which doesn't mean you have to, of course. You are free to not vibe with a ship, regardless of the reasoning behind it. But don't tell me it's not a damned good reason.

You're all way too nice to me 😭
But I guess since I now have a general consensus I'm not gonna hold out, so warning it gets slightly more than suggestive a bit down the road, starts off pretty safe though
So I wasn't kidding that this concept, in one form or another, has been floating around in my head for like two years now
Obviously it didn't start out as sagau centered but it transitions so easily into that universe so I've expanded upon it
Basically the general structure is based off of how in sagau fics it's always kind of implied that the very land of Teyvat itself reflects the creators emotional/physical state
Like heavy storms/rain in imposter au where poor reader is getting hurt/killed by the characters, and the less seen counterpart where the day is just beautiful and perfect when reader is happy
Soooo, taking that, why don't we apply it to characters as well?
And by that I simply mean that the reader's emotions quite literally extend from themselves and can be felt lowkey by anybody close to them
So if the reader is happy then it's almost as if it's impossible to be anything else in their presence, happiness and bliss just permeates throughout the room lifting the spirits of anyone that comes in contact with
Then of course, if the reader is sad, every living thing near them suffers the same pain
It's also considered a universally good thing even if the reader is experiencing negative emotions, which are then also felt by other people in the general vicinity, because at least then all the acolytes know exactly what their beloved creator is feeling and the moment when they're feeling bad, it's not as if it can be hidden, which then allows them to jump right in and try fixing it
I headcanon that this sensation is obviously stronger the closer to the source, aka the creator, that a character is, the strongest of this sensation being felt when the character is physically touching the reader
I feel like there's just a very big variety of what you can do with this concept, like having usually sad/depressed characters finding relief in the creators presence, happy energetic characters instantly feeling waves of negative emotions and just booking it to where the creator is to calm them
You could even extend it further and have this happen in a less dramatic way with the creator statues, if the reader is still in their own world
Like it becomes a daily ritual to visit the creator statue to touch it and feel exactly what they're feeling, it's a sacred place of relief for tired fighters, stressed akademiya students, and sad acolytes who want nothing more than to just bask in the warmth of the divine creator, and if they're met with a negative emotion it's customary to leave an offering and a prayer for the creators wellbeing
Now, moving into the more suggestive aspect of it, and I'm sure you can see exactly where I'm going with this but—
All feelings are amplified for others near them, including pleasure and arousal
Sooo, just saying, there's a lot of potential for some fun drabbles where maybe a particular character quite literally gets addicted to the intense bliss felt from merely touching our dear reader
Or maybe something more like said character can get off on focusing solely on pleasing their creator and the effects of that (not as if they couldn't already, but now it's a bit more literal)
And, in a few things I've written, I've also extended this concept so that the previously mentioned euphoria gets so intense that it becomes something of a baseline, as in there's an actual feeling of pain or at least discomfort from being without it, cough character abandoning all dignity and begging to touch the creator cough
Taking the phrase "addicted to your touch" to a whole new level 😀👍

The Promised Neverland - Kaiu Shirai/Posuka Demizu Vol. 16-20: A “YOU STUCK THE LANDING!” Commentary + Overall Thoughts
-the seven walls are time and space? very interesting.
-smol emma jumping out of the cupboard and screaming RAAAYYY is the epitome of emma.
-jeez, hayato is adorable
-wth, ayshe's and demon's story is heartbreaking
-one thing i have to commend the manga for is structure. it stops the action and moves away to keep the tension- but just so. just for long enough. not too long so that it becomes frustrating or that you've forgotten what's happening.
-julius' comrades as first food offers?! JEEZ!
-hayato is a snitch.
-Iss should ask for emma's family, right? the most important thing to her? i call the being "Iss," yes. i don't know what to do with the lettering
-okay, clearly the reward is an emma sacrifice, but i don't believe for a second that emma will get an unhappy ending so how are we solving this
-oi! OI! NORMAN IS COUGHING UP BLOOD, OI, STOP THAT! i figured he might have been experimented on too, but oi~
-omg ray's so happy to see sonju and mujika
-low-key cathartic that emma calls norman a liar that she can't trust. yes, girl, say it. it's the same thing, always the same story, it goes beyond this manga. the positive traits when someone is your ally become negative traits when they become the opposition, even though the person themselves hasn't changed at all.
-norman's "i'm scared" inner thoughts are heartbreaking
-the part where norman asks ray and emma to help him, heartbreaking
-norman: gives the most honest and vulnerable "i want" speech of his life. ray: got it. the brevity, the simplicity, i love it.
-with all those lil lines on his face, i'm just imagining norman permanently beet red at this point. and i love the idea that extreme determination and single-mindedness can actually be a cry for help. i haven't seen it put so bluntly before, and it's very true.
-now that norman's opened up, he looks like emma and ray's age. it's cool
-OI BITCH LEAVE ZAZIE ALONE!
-SONJU IS THE QUEEN'S BROTHER?!?! PRINCE SONJU?!
-why did they give norman a bow, that boy can't shoot to save his life
-REDEEM YOURSELF, ISABELLA! NOW IS YOUR TIME TO SHINE
-yes, oliver, slay! we love to see it
-damn there's such good moments in these final volumes, i'm starting to worry about s2 of the anime. is any of that there?
-YES ISABELLA YES! YES! she looks so chipper when she explains she'll betray the farm, lol.
-i know i'm obsessed with aot, but at times i legit think the promised neverland is the deliberate antithesis of aot. and i have no problem with that.
-leuvis is also a sibling? did we know that? if so, i forgot.
-ray's scarf is blue?! i imagined it maroon
-ugh, they shot minerva in the back. somehow that feels worse
-SMEE?! SMEE?! SMEE KILLED MINERVA?! NORMAN'S SMEE?! (*in retrospect, norman’s smee is never explored, oof. an oversight)
-ray and norman are having a sweet moment in the panel where everyone's celebrating the end of the farms, it's adorable
-aah okay, not gonna lie, i teared up at emma and phil's reunion
-ray's expression when he says sorry and thanks to phil, they nail it.
-oooh you're killing off isabella? i didn't expect it, but it makes sense.
-yeah, of course they love isabella and isabella loves them. it's not as black and white as ally and enemy.
-don be like, "RAY GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE, MOM IS CALLING"
-ray continues to be my favorite and most nuanced character, followed by norman. but ray is number one by far. by far far far
-I CALLED IT, THE REWARD MUST BE EMMA'S FAMILY! i don't know what that means yet, BUT I CALLED IT because the story abides by its logic, love that for it
-lmao imagine how terrified all these children/adults who knew nothing must be, just whooshing out of existence into another world
-AHAHA EMMA'S NOT HERE! NICE! what did she do and how do we save her
-yes, that's a good reward. true to the story. i mean, bad for everyone, but narratively good. amnesiac emma
-emma feeling the void in the space inside of her where her family was, very well-expressed
-ah. final chapter. please stick the landing.
-TWO YEARS! IT'S BEEN TWO YEARS!
-GHOSTIES SAVING THE DAY AAAHHHH
-ASDJHKSFJK THEY FOUND HER, WHAT A GREAT PANEL, RAY AND NORMAN AND EVERYONE. she must be terrified. they're all strangers.
-my boy ray shines, i love it
-aww norman "thank goodness," what a soft boy. also he's crying, have we ever seen him cry before? he didn't cry for isabella
-the lambda group thriving :'))) they have effective medicine for their side effects :')))
-dang it, norman's speech is giving me the feels
-"why does it feel warm but also painful in my heart?" is literally a summary of the final chapter.
-ah, bb ray is crying now too
-THEY'RE GONNA LIVE TOGETHERRRR, SCREW DESTINY
-mujika looks happy, and sonju looks sonjuish :)
-not sure if the old man knows it, but he's just been adopted by fifty thousand children
-okay, i am so happy. this is a perfect ending. this is just. it's so good. it tooketh and it gaveth and now the mini torettos can all live together. i'm so happy with the ending.
~ ~~ ~~~
-i'm so happy in general that i read the manga. we started off neutrally, then things got rough and i genuinely thought if it might be better to quit, but from around the midpoint and onward it just got better and better. the story is exactly what it promises to be, very true to itself, and it pays off in every aspect.
-ray is my GOAT in this manga. norman is as nuanced as ray, i just vibe with ray the most. but i consider them both good characters. emma, on the other hand, is a very straightforward character, very static, but she works. she is the pillar of the story and she's exactly what she's meant to be. i like that she pushes everyone towards kindness, and when *they* can't be kind, she takes care of the issue herself from a place of kindness so that they won't have to fight from a place of unkindness. it's an interesting approach. and then, i have a soft spot for oliver and hayato for some reason.
-one thing that made me roll my eyes was that in such a huge cast, everything is so unanimous. the norman and vincent incident aside, there's no fights, no real resistance, no dissent. but it's not the kind of story where there would be, where there would be a point to be, so i don't feel like holding that against it. and it tried to give it that aspect too, with emma going against her fam to find Iss and all that.
-everything abides by the logic and tone of the story. and the ending just elevates the whole thing even higher, because it stuck the landing so well imo.
-now on to the anime, to finally hear their voices. i fear for the dreaded s2, and dare i say, i am also a little intrigued.

Malevolent E9 (not specifically about that ep but yknow. i havent listened past it so if anything i say is contradicted by anything in later eps, that's why): Been thinking about how Malevolent's story is so defined by the constraints of its creation and the problem-solving used to get around that (I mean, I suppose the same can be said to some degree for nearly any piece of art, but it really jumps out for me here).
The first and most obvious example is Arthur's blindness, with John "acting as his eyes" by describing their surroundings for him (and the audience)—it's (to me at least) clearly contrived as a way to get around the "This Gun In My Right Hand Is Loaded" problem, but it also is kind of the main conceit of the plot, and immediately defines John and Arthur's relationship—Arthur has to rely upon John from the jump, even though he has no real proof of his intentions or trustworthiness. "I have your eyes," John says, a threat as much as it is a fact. All John has to do to harm Arthur is stop talking and watch him blunder around without his help (which he does do eventually, but the threat hanging over his head is, at least initially, enough to convince Arthur to cooperate with him). It's an interesting tool for the audience to understand what is going on at any given point of the story, but also, it has real actual consequences in the story that reverberate through the narrative.
(putting the rest under the cut bc this got Long)
There's also the fact that John and Arthur are constantly recapping what has happened and laying out what all their options and potential consequences of said options are going forward. To me, this (as well as the above) feels like the author's main goal is to make sure the audience is clear on Exactly what is going on At All Times. The episodes only come out once a month, after all, and it could be hard to remember what happened in the last episode if you haven't revisited it since then (also I am just now realizing that this is sort of paralleled with Arthur's month-long coma). There's also the thing about how apparently Patreon supporters can influence where the story goes, and I'm not entirely sure how that works, but it gives Guthrie another incentive to make sure the audience has all the possible options laid out for them.
But, while I do think this is done mainly for the audience's benefit, it does also tell us a lot about Arthur and John's characters/relationship. It says that, despite any differences of opinion or questions of trust they may have—they do view whatever they have together (which I have been told... changes over time, but for right now I'm just talking about their relationship up until where I've listened) as an actual partnership—they want to make sure they are on the same page, or at least understand what the other is thinking. They may disagree on the correct course of action, but Arthur pretty much always tells John what he's doing instead of trying to get one over on him. Also, since they do try to reason out everything they do, and Arthur keeps charging into risky situations ass-first anyway, it tells us that Arthur sees himself as a very intelligent and rational man, when really he just seems to be very good at justifying whatever stupid decisions he might make in the pursuit of Knowledge.
And then there's uh. Women. (I sorta mentioned this in a different post but I can't stop turning it around in my brain)
So it seems that Harlan Guthrie a) has decided to not hire any voice actors and just voice every character himself, and b) doesn't seem to believe himself capable of convincingly voicing a female character (or just doesn't want to. idk).
This doesn't mean that there aren't any women or girls in Malevolent—on the contrary, the podcast is full of them. They are all either old crones or daughters—crazy old women and wraiths and babies and missing girls and missing girls and dead missing girls. They cry, they wheeze, they laugh, they write letters to close friends (but of course, their friends are not there to read the letters), but they can never speak for themselves, in their own voices. They must be dead, or wordless, or both.
They haunt the narrative, and haunt the narrative, and haunt the narrative. They are metaphysically incapable of doing anything else. They can save Arthur's life, help guide his way, but they can never have a simple conversation with him. Obviously Arthur had to be in a coma for just long enough that Amanda/Sarah died before he could talk to her. It couldn't ever have gone any other way—the world doesn't work like that.
And then there's Arthur's daughter. She's dead. It hasn't been explicitly stated yet at the point I'm at (she's mentioned for the first time at the end of E9), but it's pretty obvious. Not only did he mention her name first when he was literally dying, but just. Of course she is. There's no chance she isn't, that maybe Arthur thinks she's dead but really something else has happened to her—all daughters are dead. That's just how it works. (except for that one baby, I suppose. The baby is interesting—I notice they explicitly refer to her as female when I don't think they had a way to know that*. She just Is a girl, she has to be. She needs protecting, therefore she is a Daughter, plain and simple).
And learning that Arthur has (had) a daughter has caused me to look at the rest of the girls in this podcast differently (and is honestly a big reason why I wanted to write this post in the first place.) Those missing-turned-dead girls, the baby, all those young girls haunting the narrative—they're all his daughter, naturally. (not literally but y'know, meta-narratively or whatever) They're not just haunting the narrative, but haunting him specifically.
Anyway, girls haunting horror stories and fridged women and whatever other tropes that keep women from fully participating in stories are nothing new, obviously (and I imagine that Guthrie is very intentional when he invokes those tropes—this whole thing is a big ol' nod to Lovecraft, there's no way this guy is doing horror tropes by accident), but the fact that it seems to be like that mostly because Guthrie just Didn't Want to Hire An Actor makes it way more interesting to me.
I'm sure most (if not all) of this has been discussed in the fandom already, but I haven't read any meta or anything yet and I just wanted to get my thoughts down. Honestly, part of why I made this post is that I feel like I can clearly see what Guthrie was going for in how he built this story (/is building this story) and how it works within the world of the characters, but I'm still trying to puzzle out how I personally feel about the choices he made. (ex: do I appreciate how clear he makes things for the listener or do i feel like my hand is being held to much and i'm not being trusted to understand what's going on? if the latter, is it integrated into the story well enough for me to forgive it?) Writing this has... not actually helped much. I'll let you know if I figure it out.
*Okay I went back to the transcript, and it seems they start using she/her pronouns for the baby as soon as the old woman gives her to them. I assumed that the baby was wearing clothes or swaddled in a blanket the whole time, but I don't think this is ever explicitly stated, so it's possible it could've been clear once John was able to get a close enough look at her. Still, this is very much glossed over. Which, granted, it would be weird if they took a moment in the text to like, look at the baby's genitals, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Character Narrative Logic (or lack thereof)
One of arguably biggest issues with the narrative structure is that the narrative elements themselves lack logical order.
And I don't mean chronological in terms of story. And I already wrote about the issues with story structure in terms of delivering logical cause/effect YEARS ago and hilariously the very same post is true for every. single. volume. since. You can cut out any of the volumes and pretend its not there and it being offscreen often would improve things.
What I mean here is "Logical" in terms of narrative structure.
No matter if you are telling a linear story in chronological order, an achronological epic tale that jumps forward and backward in time or a more personal stream of consciousness kind of story where time sometimes blurs, the logical order of narrative remains the same.
There's a specific "point" you are trying to achieve. Whether its a specific answer to a character conflict you set-up, thematic idea, etc. You know a specific thing you want a character/plot-thread/entire-story-overall to say and then you work your way backwards. You ask "Where do we go from here?" for specific plot-point/character/story. And once you answer that you have a vague "road" where you can start asking "why/how" your specific character/story would go that way. The points being made can be in character's past, character's future - doesn't matter.
Then you make sure different roads of "logic" for different characters don't necessarily get jumbled together unintentionally or out of order. For example if one character's resolution is important in another character's progression, you make sure that the said "resolution" actually comes before the other character's progression.
In that sense, V1 through V3 are set-up to introduce characters, establish their contradictions and set-up future conflict.
Tumblr media
You have four characters. You have the key issues and conflicts set-up for them from the start and apparent in their very trailers.
And then you spend the introductory volumes laying out the foundation for the conflict. First you establish what the character is about, then establish conflicting elements or ideas that challenge that and then you just outright crash the character into obstacles and roadblocks, establishing the key conflict.
Let's say we take Ruby's psychology and her wish to be the hero which is one thing that is at the core of the show since the very start and that end of V3 sets up perfectly.
Tumblr media
So Ruby is dealing with the idea of her idealized nature of just what it means to be a huntsman and the clash of it with reality as she faces tragic events in her life and finds out that she's only human and unlike in storybooks, that means failure and not being able to actually live up to your ideal. Traumatic experiences follow and Ruby is shaken and finally forced to actually face her own losses and trauma. Which in turn ties into larger themes about nature of humanity and the clash of two viewpoints of the two narrators and how they view humanity.
Now does what happens next? does the reaffirmation follow or does rejection happen and change of direction is contextualized through that set-up, which in itslef would deliver a message about nature of world and mortality in on itself? Because either way Ruby would be moving forward and parsing her trauma.
Let's say you want to end that story with reaffirmation of self and clearing up the doubts. That means Ruby overcoming self-doubts and issues and realizing that even in spite of all the issues, being a hero is good and worth it.
That means you now have to build a clear-cut road of escalation where her issues become more prominent and the character's doubts grow. Again, this character is the crux of your entire show, her conflict is the one into which the character conflicts of other characters and plot threads build up into. So how do you go from the statement of the central character conflict that the first three volumes gave to the protagonist to the resolution?
What is the path from V4 to V5 to V6 to V7 to V8 to V9 where Ruby's conflict grows? Did the show even LET her have character progression building up toward resolution? Does the show reiterate upon the established set-up, challenge any of those points?
Tumblr media
The answer is no. The opening statement was made with the first three volumes and then the lead character of your entire story just faded into background. The best you could get was that she has "SOME ISSUES" going through her head, but the show never allowed her to actually vocalize them or showcase progression of the issues being there. The set-up of the conflict at the core of her character is never really elaborated upon. It still stays at the end of V3.
But okay let's put aside the characterization and character progression of your LITERAL PROTAGONIST not being there for now.
Let's just say you want to plan out how you resolve it first.
And, if for example, you are writing a situation where other characters reaffirm another character's path, you generally want to build that up, by drawing upon the reasoning from their mostly completed character arcs. Because if you don't, it ends up being denial rather than reaffirmation. If you have characters state something, there's always "Why did they do this" that follows. If you don't answer that, you don't refute the dilemma presented in the conflict, you just deny its there.
What is the resolution of Yang's self-doubt, identity issues and parental issues or her relationship with her sister? Did she discover herself and who she wants to be? Did she find an answer to her own doubts? Can Yang now stand as her own person with a path and set of ideals she believes in? Can she be an equal to the others in the team now?
What did Weiss learn about privilege, self-worth and standing up for what you believe in? What about recognizing, acknowledging and denouncing toxic behavior that one can inherit from one's abusers? And how did Ruby influence that?
How did Blake resolve the hypocrisy within her own goals and path? Did the way she sees the world change or did she reaffirm her beliefs? What ARE her beliefs? Did Blake find her own path, face her own mistakes and contradictions and acknowledged the budding feelings she has been running from because the person of her affection got hurt when her abuser came back? And in anywhere in this path, did Ruby feature into that somehow?
You can pretty easily write the idea of characters supporting other character's reaffirmation by drawing from their own development that was impacted by the said character. The issue is that for some that development is straight up missing and for some it has not even happened yet.
Yang is sort of left hanging on pretty much all of her issues. Some of them never came up again, some are just offscreen. And Raven is "somewhere" in the background with her mind-numbingly generic "bandit tribe" subplot just waiting till the show needs some more padding.
Weiss sort of skirted through her own arc and it "simply happened". You can sort of map out where her arc started and where it ended because she, arguably, has the least shaky arc (not saying much) but there's not really any actual solid attempt at characterization to highlight it. There's no real defining moment where she genuinely becomes her own person and shifts power dynamic away from her controlling abusive father (because he's kind of a joke as the show rushes dozen of plotpoints at once). The show doesn't really reflect upon her journey and where she started. And the show is not really interested in the fact that Ruby and Blake specifically both kind of played pivotal role in how Weiss perceptions of the world and others and herself have changed... Nor addresses just how Weiss changed in terms of her conscious/subconscious biases because whoops racism ain't there anymore right? By all accounts, her arc being mostly complete, Weiss at this point absolutely should have completely rebuilt herself from ground-up but...that's not there...She's just kind of there...
Blake is literally background object at this point. Her arc literally disappeared into thin air. Yaaaaay we solved racism, guys! Everything's fine now!
So you don't have a character progression for the character whose main resolution you are about to deliver. And you don't have the resolutions of characters through whom you are about to make that statement.
So what do you have now?
What kind of resolution can you deliver that is NOT just a roundabout way of characters going "Well yeah? NO YOU"
You can't. There's no logic structure and I don't quite think there has ever been a point (or at least past V3) for the character.
Chances are you as a writer just really really wanted to go M. Night Shyamalan and to "deliver a retort against any criticism you received" inside your own story.

We're 5 months into 2022 as of May 22nd. It's time for another look at just how fucked we are by checking in on
The Timeline
Elon Musk buys Twitter to own the libs. Wait actually he changes his mind. Maybe actually yes. Wait. What about all the bots? Maybe no. Lots of people are jumping ship
Eurovision happened. Something about banana wolves and pussy salad? Idk man, but Ukraine won
Square Enix sold a bunch of IPs for... NFTs. Like Deus Ex and Tomb Raider. For. NFTs.
BTW NFTs and crypto fell hard recently
BTW BTW, one of the biggest NFT guys behind those ugly monkeys tried to make a dating site for themselves, then called it off because of too many dudes
Speaking of dating, Dead By Daylight is making a dating sim called DBD Hooked on You, made by the same people that made the KFC dating sim. Now you can date your favorite serial killers and be the "I can fix him" girl you've always wanted to be
Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers came back in the weirdest possible way. Look aesthetics aside, I mean it when I say weird. Like Ugly Sonic makes an appearance weird. Like two characters got together that had no business getting together weird. Like Chip n Dale not sounding like Chip n Dale weird.
You know that bird that was in Lion King? Zazu? Yeah his species is going extinct. I thought it was a toucan or something but nah, thats a Yellow Billed Horn Bill, and climate change is wiping them out.
MCR is back- again! This time Measles didn't come with them
Unfortunately Monkeypox did. Yeah turns out it's was around before in 2003 or so, even 2021. Do some googling but try not to panic.
