Also in unrelated news I have channeled my hatred for Hornblower receiving ~Visions Of The Future™~ into an AU in which Hornblower is literally a sibyl and I am using it to further all of my delightful and horrific Hornblower agendas <3

They are siblings your honour
This is some au where the timeline continues after Isenfier and everyone is happy and only mildly traumatised. Also I guess David continues to use his old room as an “office” so he has an excuse to keep paying Liz (she deserves it after he skimped out on rent for 5 years, how dare he 🙄)

The old man started talking at length- as old people are wont to do- about the particulars of sailing. It was only when Sid pointed at a length of rope and asked after it the man paused and looked at him more closely, thin skin crinkling around his eyes as he squinted.
"You mean to tell me you don't know how to tie knots? What kind of sailor are you, then?" The old man asked incredulously, reaching into his satchel and pulling out a length of cord. "Here, have a seat, let's see here..."
"Well... I'm *not* a sailor." Sid answered, though he did take the cord from the man and sat cross-legged in front of him.
"Semantics at this point- you travel, don't you? What're you planning to do if you see a man go overboard? Or you see the rigging snap? You can call for help but can you wait for it to get there?"
The man continued rambling, interjecting his stories and scenarios with the different ways to tie a length of rope. Sid didn't have much trouble following along- although the old man noticed him running his fingers over the knot he just tied, frowning and then untangling it to try again.
"Say, boy, are you blind?" The old man asked bluntly, stroking his thin beard.
"Only on my mother's side." Sid told him. When the old man didn't laugh, and just looked at him in silence, Sid placed a cough into his fist and said, "I, uh, don't see too good, no."
"Well, here-" the old man tossed his own cord into Sid's lap, making him jump a little. "Take a closer look over that, try again."
Sid took the old man's handiwork, lightly taping and dragging his short-trimmed fingernails over the coiled threads. The man resumed talking as Sid focused intently, finally pulling the cord tight and holding up his third attempt.
"-and I told him as such but- ah, your tension's off, but you've got the idea of it, here, for when you need to join two seperate ropes together- but he didn't listen to me, and so sure enough when the next squall rolled in on us-"

The biggest problem with Psycho Pass is it couldn’t generate a new audience as time progressed.Of course cyberpunk social commentary with philosophical references is a very niche genre in itself. But people both Japan and overseas practically rejected the third season.Which doesn’t bode well for the series’s longevity.Because from my understanding the torch have been passed to legacy charecters already. The recent release and psycho fes made it abundantly clear that the audience for psycho pass are all from 2012-15 era who are only there for the OG squad. They don’t necessarily like or care for PP3 charecters.Releasing PPP in this chronology is weird to me because they already did a soft reboot and the legacy charecters are supposed to be important for the conclusion somehow or I assume so.Shouldn’t they put more effort into making them connect more with the audience? What I find interesting is they are getting a significant number of Kougami x Akane shippers with PPP which I imagine is their worst nightmare scenario for them(I don’t care about their baiting at all)and definitely isn’t something they are looking for.All I am saying is if they are doing legacy they should just commit instead of baiting and make the new gens more well fleshed. But then again that doesn’t guarantee popularity or acceptance either so idk.
Hi! All great points!
I believe the fact that Psycho Pass as a story survived 10 years is largely thanks to our wonderful creators who love the concept and characters so much that they wanted to keep it going.
As we see with most reboots, when the audience gets new characters thrown at them, it's very hard to make an emotional connection to them immediately. My personal opinion on Season 3 (and this my opinion, others may feel differently) is that it was fun. I wasn't too emotionally invested, - I could casually watch it. There was some great choreography with Arata's parkour and the fight scenes; and of course I was there to inhale any legacy cast crumbs that were sprinkled in. I actually re-watched Season 1 recently and there was definitely a stark contrast in how I felt about the separate installments.
I do understand a potential reason to release PP3 + FI before PPP may be to have the audience grow some interest in the new cast before the release of such an $$$expensive$$$ insane budget and frame rate film.
I think the characters definitely have potential. Arata is criminally asymptomatic and Kei is an immigrant who "chose" to live under sibyl (although with all the turmoil outside of Japan, it maybe wasn't a choice), those could be interesting stories if developed properly.
The rise in Ko x Akane shippers is something that also intrigues me. Then again, I don't have any numbers on hand nor have I performed any statistical analysis to claim that it's significant [Disclaimer]. I have a ~theory~ that perhaps the studio and the marketing team especially thought of highlighting our heterosexual "couple" as a promotional tactic. I recall reading how this was an issue with Suzume, where Makoto Shinkai no longer wanted to write anymore screenplays with hetero couples because he felt he already exhausted everything he had to say on that, but his higher ups insisted, so we ended up with a male lead who was a chair during 75% of the film. That being said, I don't know what the PPP creators were expecting even if this was just a marketing strategy... I don't think anyone in the room thought: "let's release a 4K HD highly detailed screencap of Kougami and Akane literally on top of each other in the premiere handout - yeah people will definitely only see them as purely professionally colleagues from that" (I have to admire the detail on that photo, because everything down to the broken glass and reflection on the glossy floor definitely looks like hours of work that an overwhelmed artist did with their own 2 hands). With that and all the interviews containing denial of them ever being an official couple, I suspect there's some disconnect among the team as a whole... but who knows - I wasn't invited to this meeting ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Now, my biggest critique is that the story with our legacy characters wasn't formally concluded before they introduced the new squad, and that's frustrating. Because now, we're stuck in the middle where both sets need to get some level of attention - and that's expensive. Drawing, writing, voicing this huge cast. The PPP character list is probably the most amount that Psycho Pass has had to work with in a single installment, so it was a reach endeavor to say the least. However, the general thoughts on Akane is that her character arc will be complete after PPP. She's reached her resolve and will likely serve as only a support or a mentor going forward (if we ever get more PP that is).
I am excited to see Providence regardless of the mixed feelings on it. From all the content that has been released, one thing is certain to me: this movie was made with a lot of love. For the world-building, the characters, the emotions, the fans. That's not something I can say about most films these days - especially animated films (particularly in the West). So I will thoroughly enjoy the everything out of this.
That being said, although I want more PP content, I think there should only be one more installment (whether it's a movie or season) to wrap up the rest of the story with Bifrost/Peacebreakers/Kei&Arata's motives that were left open-ended in PPFI. Having something go on forever is worrisome, because it's hard to keep the momentum up for so long - especially on the creative team's part (unless it's One Piece I suppose). I just want all the characters to have proper epilogues and leave the rest up to interpretation by the audience. Ending strong is always more noteworthy in my book - because that's the most recent impression that people will have after consuming the content, so it's very crucial to nail the third act even if we mess up in the middle. If we end on Providence (& Psycho FES if we count that), then judging by the Japanese audience reception so far - it seems like a strong endpoint. I'll be content with that.

Can you please tell me the source for hera being born on the banks of imbrasos? Did you find anything more about hera and imbrasos? I was thinking, since she was raised by oceanus and tethys, him taking new born hera to them would be a cute idea.
And gosh I feel bad for ocyrhoe! Since it's apollo, there's a bit of hope that she ended up not getting violated given how he has for some reason a surprising number of myths where he actually steps back (cassandra, bolina and cumaean sibyl too, along with marpessa).
It’s… the only source sited in his Theoi page lol
Tumblr media
Also in my retelling he is the one to find and convince Rhea to take Hera to his parents (since at that point Rhea and Tethys weren’t on good terms.
Also idk if I’d use Cassandra as an example of a woman escaping Apollo unscathed lmao

tPoDG Modern AU ideas because @gabriel-shutterson has brought it back into my brainspace
Dorian and Basil first interact through insta comments because Dorian was one of the first people to put a genuinely nice comment on Basil’s post.
Eventually they get to talking in dms and turns out they both live in the same area so they decide to meet up
Dorian has sent Basil photos of himself and Basil’s like “oh god im going to be catfished so hard but i wanna believe”
They meet at like a starbucks or something
Dorian is a bitch for a pumpkin spice latte. Basil just orders a black coffee
Henry’s Basil’s friend from when they were 7 (they met at a high school gathering type thing that both their fathers attended)
As laid out in the other post, Henry has a million different burner accounts he uses for all kinds of things but most often it’s trolling the the form of a moral dilemma
Henry never participates in fandom discourse or flame wars because even though it would totally be his area of expertise he doesn’t understand the appeal. Dorian, on the other hand, is in every fandom discourse thread
Dorian’s youtube watch history before meeting Henry is mostly to do with classical piano/orchestra (he would love twosetviolin). After, it’s half fashion/beauty videos and half conspiracy/occult videos.
Henry’s watch history is an enigma. He will watch anything remotely problematic just as more fuel for his trolling schemes.
Basil’s watch history is a lot of speedpaints, art tips, and long-form video essays.
Dorian’s insta and tiktok famous
In a timeline where Basil and Dorian get together, they run a couple’s account on insta but each of their photos inexplicably has Henry somewhere in the background to the point where they had to clarify “no, he’s not stalking us. He’s just constantly third-wheeling even when we tell him not to.”
Basil can cook a pretty good meal and is pretty proud of that. Henry cannot cook anything but he can make some mean brownies and Basil does NOT want to know why he can make brownies so well. Dorian cannot cook to save his life, he will burn himself making a smoothie.
Dorian is a weeb and he has cosplayed Todoroki.
Henry graduated Uni with honors with a double major in chemistry and philosophy (my own hc) while also being the guy who appeared at every scheduled party and even some that weren’t.
Basil and Henry once, at 4 am delirious from a collective 2 hours of sleep over the past 72 hours, wrote the most disgusting and smuttiest crackfic ever (about who idk but think along the lines of those Obama x shrek fics) and it still lives somewhere on Basil’s computer never to be opened again if Basil can so help it. Mostly it was Henry writing it while Basil had his head in his hands but every once in a while Basil came up with an idea that made the fic so much worse.
Sibyl is in her last year of Uni (a small university with full scholarship and top of her class) working on a theater major when she meets Dorian.
Sibyl has her own small youtube channel with like 10 followers where she posts herself practicing and little moments with her fellow cast members.
She drops out of school to be with Dorian but.. ya know 😬

Things I didn't get to cover in With My Own Eyes (I think) that I want to talk about:
1. Sibyl accidentally got her brother killed doing witchcraft, which in turn made it so her blood cna be used in place of anything in a spell.
2. Sibyl's aunt was meant to pass down the knowledge of witchcraft to her second daughter, but she only had two sons, so Sibyl was taught instead. (Second daughter of the first daughter)
3. The price Sibyl's aunt payed for witchcraft was being paralized from the waist down, while her grandmother gave up her hear. (All the named Sibyl) Aft Sibyl became the Hecate she returned this abilities to. Them, being the Godess of witchcraft after all.
4. Sibyl is an art teacher.
5.This gets into spoiler territory, so skipp this one if you don't want those. I mention Sibyl killing Orpheus in the last chapter. She had tow reasons behind it. First being she felt bad for Orpheus and wanted to help him. Second, doing so made it so Morpheus can't die. The Wicked Sister can't come after him if he hasn't killed his son. (Also idk if they even exist anymore cause of the whole Sibyl being fate now. And complicated name/being stuff)
6. The Gates became a single human baby. I never decided if Sibyl gave her to her aunt to raise, cause she always wanted a daughter, or if just dropped her off at a near by police station.
7. Sibyl preformed the summon of the fates at Stonehenge. Legend has it her car still sits there to this day.
9. Sibyl's dagger is sorta symbolism for her humanity. It's first mentioned as she uses it to protect herself, and then to make herself bleed. Both pretty human things. It dosent get mentioned again until Dream his reminded of her humanity for her chronic pain. It is a gift from Johanna, her only friend and person she can rely on. Using it to cut Orpheus' threat of fate symbolizes her ladt human act, taking revenge against Dream and acting on pity. Leaving it is leaving behind her humanity.

I will send a silly ask like you wanted! What are some of your favorite ships in media and why?
If you don't want to do romantic relationships, friendships or nemesis work too
OUGHHAAA I feel like I talk about my romantic ships a whole ton so im gonna shake it up and uhm. Uhm. Uhm. Platonic time …
Juliette’s Draft has an amalgamation of cross-media friendships stored away in it for safekeeping and a handful of them make me go crazy stupid style.
Wotton and Pesca are underrated faves of mine. It makes no sense based off of strictly the source material but by God do I think they’d make an insufferably comedic duo. Something about a guy who’s constantly trying to piss people off paired with a guy who’s constantly trying to cheer people up.
Elizabeth and Jekyll are also my 🫶 loves my lights. There’s something touching about the way they see themselves in each other. Idk man i think they’re the worst in-laws on planet earth and need to be contained but also given everything they could ever want. Enamored by their mutual hatred for big manmade structures.
Not JD related WHATSOEVER, but big fucking shout out to Armpit, Zigzag, Squid, Barfbag, and Kaira. If you know you know but the concept of that friendship group drove me fucking NUTS for the entirety of 2019 it was a great time to be silly. My Holes/Small Steps era was 👍💥
Wanga Maxwel . Ive made ten million postz about them but now you will hear about it again just for a tidbit. I need them to fight god
WOODLEGS AND WILBUR!?! LISTEN. THEY ARE BEST FRIENDS. Parrot? NO! Hyperintelligent monkey king found on a raft.
Back to jd again lol!! Robert Walton and Sibyl Vane <:)) they make me smile their friendship is so importants.
I cant think of any others rn lol help me but I LOVE IT WHEN PEOPLE ARE FRIENDS 🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶 LOVE LOVE LOVE

Please tell us more about your thesis topic I love hearing your thoughts on the Aeneid
omg?? i'm so flattered!
idk how familiar u are with the aeneid already, but basically it's an epic poem written by a guy named vergil, kind of like the iliad and the odyssey by homer, but roman. it follows the adventures of aeneas, a trojan hero and son of venus, who flees his home (troy) with his family and his men after the greeks attack (you may know abt how they came to the city hidden in a wooden horse--that scene is in the aeneid! it's always heartbreaking when ppl read homer and are like "i thought the trojan horse would show up" noooo read the aeneid!)
aeneas must go to italy bc he's destined to found rome, but on the way he does cool things like hook up with queen dido of carthage and, what i want to discuss, go down to the underworld to learn about his fate from his dead father.
the whole poem is 12 "books" long, and the underworld happens in book 6.
going to the underworld is a common thing in classical epics. it's called a katabasis (literally means "going down") and many mythological heroes do it—odysseus, orpheus (he's important), hercules,, lots more (and it's not exclusive to ancient greece/rome, most cultures have some kind of myth about characters going down to the underworld to speak with the dead)
if you know dante, or really anything about christianity, you already have some idea what vergil's underworld is like. dante's Divine Comedy is about vergil (the aeneid guy) showing dante around the underworld, which became the basis for how the church understood the afterlife. the christian interpretation of the afterlife and hell is heavily influenced by the aeneid's depiction, which is one reason this specific episode has been the source of many many years of study.
that's not what I'm actually writing abt, though, i just wanted to give some background.
aeneas doesn't just go down to the underworld, see his dad, and return to the land of the living... several very specific things happen
first, he doesn't go alone. he must be led by a sibyl, a prophet. she instructs aeneas how to enter and acts as his tour guide, pointing out different areas in the underworld and explaining what's going on
before going, aeneas must take a golden bough (branch) to give to the queen of the underworld, proserpina (persephone in greek), which will allow him to travel through the underworld
vergil prefaces the journey with an invocation to the gods
the actual book basically is divided in two parts: the first half describes aeneas’ journey in the underworld, the final half is about aeneas talking to the ghost of his father who tells him about how his descendants will go on to found rome and be a long line of great leaders
there are two gates through which aeneas can leave the underworld: one is made of horn, which is for “true shades/ghosts,” the other is made of ivory for “false dreams” to pass through. aeneas goes through the gate of ivory and returns to the living world
overall this book follows many examples of prior katabatic tradition, with the katabasis being a place where aeneas gains knowledge that’s really otherworldly in a place that functions very differently from the living world
what i want to write about is how the whole poem is like one big katabasis for the audience to experience, with vergil being our version of the sibyl guiding us along. different things aeneas experiences in the underworld mirror different things the audience experiences in the rest of the poem. for example, aeneas meet his father halfway through the book to gain new knowledge; this book, where we (the audience) gain new knowledge, is halfway through the whole poem. there’s a distinct shift in the two halves of this book, just like there’s a distinct shift in the two halves of the aeneid as a whole.
or how vergil begins the katabasis with an invocation (calling upon) the gods, he begins book 1 of the poem with an invocation to the muse (as is the epic tradition). how aeneas experiencing various contradictory aspects in the underworld mirrors how the aeneid as a whole is both a celebration and a criticism of rome. before he learns his future, aeneas must see reminders of his past, the ghosts of people who died earlier; the audience is being reminded of rome’s past throughout the whole poem, especially here where we see the line of roman rulers (like caesar), whom the audience is already familiar with. now i’m gonna find other parallels, like narrowing down which episodes in the epic could correspond to, like, aeneas plucking the golden bough, and a few other scenes which i think are katabatic in nature
basically along these lines ^^
overall i’m not so much interested in the actual plot of the epic, or even vergil’s intentions as the author, than i am interested in thinking of it as a mirror for the audience.
(not to derail but that’s basically what i was talking abt earlier here with bat comics, like i’m less interested in what the actual story is than i am interested in how (or whether) the audience is acknowledged. it’s also the mindset i’m coming from with posts like this bc like… to me i find it interesting how bruce denying something the audience already knows, like he’s gaslighting himself and the audience, mirrors how an abusive parent gaslights themselves/others (even though i know it’s not intentional, it’s fun for me to think about from the perspective of being the reader who watches these events happening then to see them changed in the story like a denial of facts brought on by immense grief/trauma)... but i guess it didn’t come across well enough hahah ;;)
uhh yea that's the basic idea! thanks for asking !!

Make a assumption about my muse and see how they react! Anything goes!
I actually LOVE THIS??? Like, I think it’d be so funny for them to just let out an epic cover of Enter Sandman or something like that. (Idk what qualifies as heavy metal, I only assumed Metallica was, I mean it’s in the name HDJDJDJKD)
