Arcane Characters + "Tell Me Something I Don't Know" Pt. 1

Just some short character/reader drabbles based one one of my favorite tropes/scenes, wherein a character jokingly says "tell me something I don't know", only for the other person to respond with something cute/sincere.

Part 1 features the following characters: Jinx, Sevika, Caitlyn, and Vi. I'll definitely be doing some other characters in the future (including some of the men), so no worries if your fave isn't here :3

Genre: Fluff with a couple drops of angst

Warnings: Brief language, minor mentions of injuries, brief mentions of alcohol (the reader doesn't drink any). The reader works at a bar in Sevika's section, guns are mentioned in Cait's (to no one's surprise)

Notes: Reader is gender neutral. Also, this is only the 3rd Arcane thing I've written, and the first I've published, so... hopefully it's good? And I'm sorry if it's not?

Jinx:

“Is… is this what I think it is?” You ask, in a breathless whisper, your heart skipping a few beats. In your hands is a thing of beauty, a glittering showpiece with all the sentimentality in the world. More accurately, it is a bracelet, lovingly handmade, a central band adorned with familiar iconography: Blue smoke clouds, a rabbit with button eyes, and two overlapping hearts.

“Course it is! It’s a trinket for my Trinket,” Jinx all but shouts, excitedly bouncing on her heels. A trace of anxiety lines her movements, however, and only grows sharper when you are too stunned to reply. Voice beginning to waver, she softly asks for reassurance. “Do you like it?” In an instant you’re on your feet, pulling her into a hug, peppering her face in kisses before replying.

“I love it, hunny-bun! It’s perfect- you’re perfect,” you say, smiling so hard it hurts a little. Though you don’t pull all the way apart, you shift just enough to let her slip the bracelet onto your wrist, and you take another few moments to admire the craftsmanship.

“You’re pretty lucky, you know, to have such a great girlfriend,” Jinx teases, pressing a kiss of her own to your rapidly warming cheeks.

“Mhmm,” you start to say, leaning into her. “Tell me something I don’t know.” It’s a joke, really, a fun little way of saying that you know exactly how lucky you are to be with her. But Jinx pauses all the same, a thoughtful look on her face. A moment passes, then two, with her fingers absentmindedly playing with your hair. When at last she speaks, it is with equal parts heartache and relief; just as you are to her, both everything she needs and everything she feels she should not get.

“I’m even luckier.”

Sevika:

Thunk. A blood-stained coin bag drops onto the counter, landing with enough of a clamor to make you flinch. Still, you put on your best smile, knowing damn well that this particular customer needed it more than most. Sevika always needed it more than most.

“What’ll it be, sugar?” You ask, drawing out the last word a little too long, watching the way her lips twitched in response. Once upon a time, she had hated the nickname. Nowadays? You’ve come close to catching her smile more times than you can count. At this point you were determined to get there, eventually, even if it meant sticking it out at this shitty bar for a few more years.

“Something strong, neat. Don’t care if it’s any good,” Sevika responds after a brief moment of consideration. Part of you wants to crack a joke- this shithole doesn’t serve any ‘good’ drinks- but her expression makes you decide against it. Drink first, socialization later. If past experiences were anything to go by, you would have at least an hour or two to pick her brain before she headed home. Plus, it was a surprisingly slow night, giving you plenty of excuses to show her extra attention.

As soon as you set the first glass in front of Sevika, she throws it back with a grimace, swallowing the whiskey so fast that you wonder if she even tasted it at all. Then, and only then, does she mumble out a word of thanks, following it up with a little wave of her hand. Quite familiar with her procedure, you grab the bottle from the shelf and set it in front of her. Soon enough she’s pouring herself a refill, while you watch her closely. Her gaze meets your own, briefly, and you raise an eyebrow. One over dramatic sigh later, she offers a shitty explanation, as vague as ever:

“It’s been a bad day.” Yeah, you can’t help but scoff at that. It’s not that you expected her to go over the details of her job (she never did, as much out of concern for your safety as desire for her own privacy), just something more than stating the obvious.

“Tell me something I don’t know, maybe I’ll even give you a couple shots on the house, if you make it interesting enough,” you offer, resting your hands on the counter, letting yourself lean in her direction just a little bit. You know that Sevika doesn’t need your charity, that she makes more than enough money to pay for her own drinks, but that wasn’t really the point. She liked games… even the dumb ones with no clear rules.

“Fine. It’s been a bad day,” she repeats, pulling a cigar from her pocket as she does. There’s a short pause, her eyes watching you expectantly. A few seconds later you’re lighting it for her, watching the way her nostrils flare as the smoke hits her, feeling her own gaze locked on you. Once she takes a deep, long drag… she finally offers up an elaboration. “You make it better.”

Caitlyn:

It’s mesmerizing to watch her work. Every movement is purposeful, perfectly measured down to the millimeter, her gaze never once becoming unfocused. There are a million places where Caitlyn excels, of course, but she seems most at home here, on the firing range. Gunshots piercing the air, the clink of reloading her gun, the sharp exhale that followed the pull of the trigger… the sounds blended together to make something that relaxed her like nothing else could.

Not that you felt the same way, unfortunately. Even with ear plugs, the noises frequently made you flinch, gripping the hem of your jacket just a bit tighter every time. Nonetheless, the thought of leaving didn’t cross your mind even once. After all, you were here for her, not for your own enjoyment. After the week she’s had… she needed this. Besides, flinching aside, you did enjoy being reminded of just how incredibly badass your girlfriend is.

“You’re an excellent shot,” you say, instinctively, as soon as Caitlyn makes her way back to where you wait. The smile that crosses her face in response is enough to fill your stomach with butterflies. Soon enough she’s tugging a glove off, so that she might cup your cheek and pull you in for a quick kiss. When you part, she speaks softly, with clear pride in her tone.

“Tell me something I don’t know.” Without a beat you respond, grinning, every bit as genuine as was physically possible.

“Being with you makes me feel safer than I ever thought possible. Knowing that you have a hand in this city’s future… well, it gives me hope.” Suddenly you wish you had brought a camera, to capture the look of flustered surprise on your girlfriend’s face.

Vi:

“I’ve had worse,” Vi grumbles, holding back a wince as you clean her wounds. Normally she would say this sort of thing with her head held high, proud of her ability to endure, but right now she is nothing more than exhausted. Any attempts at reassuring you do the opposite, painfully reminding you of all that she has suffered. When she sees the way your lips are pulled tight, locked into a scowl, she cannot help but try again. “You should have seen me a few months ago. This? This is nothing.”

Your only response is to wrap her bandages a tad tighter, your touch lingering on her skin. At that, she leans in, her breath ghosting your cheek, just as the tightness of your chest makes the air ghost your lungs, and you finally bring yourself to meet her gaze. Where she is entirely concerned, your expression is anger laced with bitter resignation.

“C’mon, nothing I face out here is going to be anywhere near as bad as before. You know why? Because now I have you,” she murmurs, forcing herself to smile through the residual ache. In any other situation, you might have blushed, or otherwise enjoyed the sweetness of her tongue. At this moment, all you can offer is a roll of your eyes and a humorless chuckle.

“Prison really fucked you up, yeah?” Now it was Vi’s turn to chuckle, even though the movement makes her bruised ribs sting, and she has to pause twice to cough. Then she’s leaning in even more, gently resting her head in the crook of your neck. Finally, some of your tension begins to drain, replaced with overwhelming affection.

“Tell me something I don’t know,” Vi says, smiling all the while, every syllable tickling you. Slowly you wrap your arms around her, careful to avoid putting pressure on her injuries, relishing the feeling of her heartbeat beneath your fingertips. For a moment you mull over her question, knowing that there wasn’t much you had yet to confide in her about. But there was one thing that you had suppressed as best as you could, a fire left smoldering in your chest, waiting for a gust of wind and a stray spark to ignite the whole world.

“There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to keep you safe this time around- I would burn this city down, if I knew the ashes would offer no more misery.” When Vi replies, it is with another laugh, believing your words to be hyperbole. Maybe they were, maybe they weren’t. With her tucked away in your embrace like this, away from those who wished her harm, you knew you were safe from finding out the truth. For now.

Hi! Ok, first of all, congratulations on the new fob album! I don’t have anyone irl to talk about it, so I’ll talk in your ask box ) second of all, your blog was my literal happy place in the last two days (like, it’s always awesome, but right now it’s the major serotonin source for me) all of your analysis is so spot on, and I can fully appreciate it now, when I finally listen to the THING!!! And omg, that’s where I started losing my plot, I really don’t know how many times can I be surprised by how GOOD as a singer Patrick is. I’m stunned every single time. At one point I was on my bike, and so damn glad for my sunglasses, I literally started crying, because of the sound of his voice, mixed with this beautiful melody, layered upon this incredible lyrical piece… all of it combined is so beautiful it made me super emotional. I’m glad for all of us, that we are getting to hear this, to experience it, I’m glad for them for the same reasons. Also I’m in love with your thoughts on an interview they did, please, I would really like more of this, because watching them talk is such delightful experience. I think one of the reasons why Pete looks so radiant lately, might be because of how many beautiful, lovely things Patrick said about him in the past months. He might already know how his friends feel about him, but I think, it’s always so much better to fave a vocal confirmation from time to time ;) I hope you have a very enjoyable weekend, cheers for the boys!

Welcome! Look, I am happy to talk to ALL the people in my Ask box about this album. My friends are patiently bearing it, but I'm happy to give them a break hahaha.

Okay, this album also made me cry, and I'm so glad I wasn't alone hahaha. And Patrick is so, so, so good. So, so good. I love that part of the arc of Fall Out Boy is Patrick Stump learning that he's an actual singer. I know in interviews he still kind of wrinkles his nose at it, but he trusts his voice to flourish more and more on every single album. And, on this album, he leaves us all with his voice leading the chorus out, it's just so much hahaha.

I do think it's got to be nice to have Patrick be so loudly full of love for him all cycle (and, of course, presumably before). I just think of how often Pete has written in the past about fake friends. I mean, Patrick probably thinks about the same thing. Patrick is, as the Zane Lowe interview makes clear, acutely aware of the type of person Pete is, and equally aware of how much people like that need someone to keep reminding them that not everything is fake. When Pete says, as he often does, that Patrick is the person who understands him best in the world, I think some of it is definitely that.

10 Random Things I Love:

He is, hands down, the funniest member of this group, and I stand by that. He is constantly making me laugh, whether he means to or not.

His art. Just, the fact that he shares it, shows everyone his progress. I’m not sure when he started doing it (although, I believe it was mentioned that he was in the group when he started, so not too long ago), or when he started sharing it, but I love that he does. I have always had a soft spot for artists. The fact that, even while training as hard as they do, and the fact that he was going to school, he was learning how to draw and paint? I love that. Which segues into...

How hardworking he is. How he was told early on he didn’t have to do much because he was the visual and he wasn’t having any of that and worked so damn hard and it shows. He’s so skilled at what he does, and even though I’ve only been a Stay for a couple months, I’m proud of him.

The fact that he’s a drama queen. Look, if you are reading this, and you’ve seen my page at all, or followed me for some time (which I doubt, but nonetheless), you know I have a soft spot for drama queens. I love them. It’s usually fictional characters, but the thought still stands. So, the minute I found out that Hyunjin was one, I knew he was going to be a fave.

The fact that it’s been stated at least once, but maybe more than that, that he doesn’t really like physical contact, but we know this isn’t true because there are a ton of clips of him cuddling up to or hugging one of the other members.

The fact that he has a big heart. I would argue it isn’t really shown as much as say, Felix, but it’s still very obvious. (Arguably, all the boys have big hearts) There are lots of moments in his vlives (I haven’t watched them yet, but I’ve seen clips), or moments on stage where he is very kind and open and I love it.

How much he laughs. I’d argue he is the one who laughs at things the most in the group and it’s adorable. I love that he finds so many things funny, I bet he’s that one friend who you laugh with until you are crying and can’t breathe, because everything can be funny when you hang out.

I know he’s part of the ‘Baboracha’ group in Stray Kids, but it seems like he’s actually pretty smart? Like, he’s one of those people who has dumb moments a lot, but overall, they are lowkey smart. I mean, isn’t he taking university classes to major in English? Hasn’t he recommended a couple books to people in the past? It’s not shown a lot, in my opinion, just from what I’ve seen, but I feel like Hyunjin is probably a lot smarter than he’s given credit for.

I’m a big fan of his slow/lazy rap. I’ve mentioned it before, like it in the song ‘Muddy Water’, that first verse he does. I think he’s talented at all of it, but there’s something I just really love about the lazy rap. And to add on to this one, because I don’t want to go above 10 points, but his dancing. it’s very loose and, I don’t know, it’s hard for me to explain.

This one is also hard to explain, but there is something about Hyunjin I find very relatable, which is saying a lot considering how stunning he is and how he is an idol and everything. Like I said, I can’t explain it. I think he’s the kind of person I’d love to be friends with.

Let Me Be Superficial For A Moment: This one was also tricky, because I know what the easy answers are, what most of the fans would go with. But I’m going to go with another answer that kind of cheats, and the same one as Jisung, and say his laughing face.

my fave concert is tk in rome in 2013 with my concert bestie: we met on this anime/manga website and bonded over our similar taste in manga and the fact we were in the same place twice before knowing each other, at a comic event in lucca a couple of years prior and that tk concert in 2009. when a dustland fairytale played at some point we just looked at each other and hugged tightly

my fave concert is tk in rome in 2018 with my concert bestie: brandon was so smiley the whole time it was contagious and he was on fire and i made history with my sign telling bb was good enough

my fave concert is tk in milan in 2018: i befriended a stranger who tweeted about me the day before just not to be alone lol and we had a great time and i was in second row for the first time of my life (and brandon's hip swivel in front of my face just changed me as a person), and we sang him happy birthday multiple times and when i popped out my sign to play river live he must have remembered me from the day before and actually took it into consideration for half a minute, chatting with the bassist about it

my fave concert is tk in helsinki in 2018: we were in the nosebleeds but damn it was still amazing and i managed to witness them play i can't stay were everyone sang a line at one point, epic!

my fave concert is tk in belfast in 2019: after one of the worst days of my life with the mess with my flight i was blessed to see brandon in a brand new blue jacket and he fucking played this river is wild (also the first time of the cowboy hat shenanigans but we don't talk about that lol)

my fave concert is tk in dublin in 2022 (double date): experiencing the stunning visuals for this tour for the first time and hearing running towards a place and cody live

my fave concert is tk in milan in 2022 with my concert bestie: brandon ignored my sign to play my god live but they played this river is wild, the song we both died to hear together, we screamed like crazy and held hands the whole time

my fave concert is tears for fears in newcastle in 2022: absolutely amazing concert, roland's voice only got better with time it was incredible and i felt my soul ascend listening to everybody wants to rule the world live

my fave concert is tk in vienna in 2022: with lots of sleep deprivation i managed to squeeze a 4th tk date bc i physically NEEDED to see them again live and while they didn't exactly play my fave songs i was stoked to see they included a couple of deep cuts that spiced up the setlist!! (also either tff or tk got me covid but it was worth it lol)

my fave concert is placebo in milan in 2022: absolutely blown away by how good brian sounds live and i almost cried at hearing beautiful james and happy birthday in the sky live and hearing my faves sad white raggae and try better next time back to back and all their hits (especially the bitter end <3) and i can brag i heard shout live twice both from them and tff in the same year eheheh

I’m so so SO glad you’re liking it!!!!!! It can get kinda heavy but it’s such a great story.... honestly I’d been wanting to start it since I saw the first pv for the anime all the way back last year but I was like, you know it’s a mappa anime! so I wanted to watch the anime as a new thing, cause I love mappa, but three episodes in I couldn’t hold back and just binged it. It’s kind of story that just makes you wanna drink it all in one go, isn’t it? so good so good

Ah man, I’m sorry but I’m not the best person to ask this to! I started this sideblog cause I had too many followers on my main and I didn’t want my stuff to be seen by that many people at first, so whatever I did probably isn’t what you’re looking for :( but really there isn’t much to it, just post whatever you like to draw, tag it as best as you can (but remember that only the first five tags appear in the search page) and be patient, since whatever you do at first you won’t get much attention anyway - the only real advice I can give is to draw something that makes you happy and that you’d draw anyway even if no one were to see it, it’ll make keep posting despite a possible lack of activity a lot easier!

I have this short one shot in mind. It’s essentially abt the entire Batfam gathering up together (and its also the anniversary of Jason’s death but that’s kinda jus a background detail).

Anyways, everyone gathers round the dinning table, eating, laughing, etc etc. And when I mean everyone, I fucking mean all the Batkids, which include but are not limited to:

Dick

Jason

Tim

Damian

Stephanie

Cassandra

Duke

Barbara

Anyways, Alfred and Bruce are obvi there as well, eating, and talking and stuff.

Suddenly, some fucking kid bursts through the fucking window, does a mid-air flip, and lands smack dab in the middle of the dining table, on their hands, which is conveniently holding onto this package.

All hell breaks loose, as various Bats (and birds!) start throwing various items. Then this kid sends out this weird ass pulse, that makes everything freeze in place. Only this kid and move.

The kid slowly floats up, cross legged in the air, moving a batarang, and throwing knife away from their face. They announce, “Hello, the Wayne Family and Friends! Who are also... Gasp, the infamous Bat and Bird themed Vigilantes of Gotham?! Now, to quote John Mulany, “we don’t have time to unpack all of that” which is fine! ...Why are none of you responded—oh sorry! I froze you all in place, my bad.”

The kid snaps their fingers, allowing the Batfam & Co. talk but their still frozen in place. Immediately Damian starts antagonizing the Kid. The Kid responses by literally zipping close Damians mouth like a Looney Toon cartoon.

The Kid sighs but continues on, “C’mon now! Don’t shoot the messenger as they say, whoever they is that is. Anyways, I have a package for one: Jason Peter Todd!”

“Who the hell sent you?” Jason askes.

The Kid shrugs, “No clue, they sent it in anonymously. Though, from what I know, there is a card inside the package so that might offer you some clues.”

“And what exactly are you?” Bruce inquires.

The Kid’s lips stretch out as wide as they can go, their pearly white, jagged teeth on display. Their eyes glow slightly red, as their neck cranes forward at a tilt. Their neck seems to extend a lot further, and their face tilts at an inhuman angle. They open their mouth, with rows of teeth on display for everyone too see.

“Why don’t you find out?” Their once chriper, goofy, kid like voice contorts into a deep, distorted version. Everyone freezes, at the Kid simply stares back at Bruce before their fave goes back to “normal” as they laugh their collective ass off.

“Ahaha... You know, that trick never does fail to make me laugh and all of you freeze in fear—then again, your already frozen but still!”

The Kid continues, their face still stretched out in a smile. A smile a little to sharp and inhuman for them. “But, you should know that’s quite a rude thing to ask! Didn’t your parents teach you any manners?! Then again, they are dead.”

A beat of silence.

“What? Too morbid? Seriously, what a tough crowd! But hey, everyone has their sore spots, so I can’t blame ya. Anyways, I’m guessing all of you have questions. So, fire away!”

They snapped their fingers, making the literally zipper on Damians face disappear.

“Who are you?” Damian seethes.

“I’m Ty Kidd! But call me Kid. Oh and, my pronouns are she/they, thank you very much. I am also a delivery person for—” Kid pulls out a business card, which start to multiple and appear infront of everyone. “—the Multiversal Express Delivery Service, or MEDS for short!”

“And what exactly is MEDS?” Dick asks.

“It’s literally in the name.” Kid deadpans, before another inhuman like smile spreads across their face. “I travel from parallel world to parallel world! Fun fact: there’s a world where you guys are just fictional characters who’ve existed since the 1930s! Isn’t that cool?! One of the many reasons I love my job.”

“Yeah, yeah, fun stuff, but who sent you?”

Kid shrugs, “I dunno. Sender was anonymous. But no worries! At MEDS we ensure that none of our packages include any sort of life threatening object, material, and etc! So, no need to worry about releasing a plague that would decimate this world in a blink of an eye or a nuclear bomb that would wipe this continent out of the map! But, if you do want to send world ending plagues or bombs, you must submit a form and blah blah blah HR bullshit.”

“And... how do know right trust you?” Tim spoke up.

Kid’s face once again spilts in half into a smile, their jagged teeth slightly teasing her lips. Her eyes turned into black silts. “You don’t.” Their voice reasonated throughout everyone’s ears, deep and contorted to the octave.

She pulled back, face once again going “normal”. “But! You can trust MEDS! Trust me when I say, nothing like a bomb, plague or that sort of item is inside this package. Anyways, I’m on a schedule, so—“

They snapped their fingers, a small device and pen appearing infront of Jason. “—please sign, and I’ll be on my merry way. Don’t worry about the window, I’ll fix it!”

Jason was momentarily stunned wondering what the fuck is happening? Why is their probably a fucking eldritch-demon-person in front of me? What is my life?

Before Jason could even tell what was happening, he picked up the floating pen and signed his name on the little device thingy. When his name was signed, the pen and device poofed! away in a plume is smoke.

The Kid, still smiling that inhuman and unsettling smile, snapped their fingers, fixing the broken window, and putting away all the various knifes and objects that were still floating in the air.

“Thank you for your service! If you ever want to send anything to a parallel universe, just give us a call and we will send it! No matter how desolate the Earth, no matter how frankly strange item, we shall send it! Anyways, happy Death day Jason Todd. Kid Out!” They said with a salute, before disappearing in a plume of smoke.

All hell breaks loose and after some arguing and lowkey existential breakdowns everyone converges to the Cave.

Bruce being paranoia incarnate, makes the package go through numerous tests. All being negative. They can’t even identify what it is.

After some more arguing, Jason slips by everyone, and tears open the box. Everyone tries to stop him, but it’s already to late, he opened it.

Now, no one can see what’s inside since Jason is blocking them with his gigantic ass figure. Bruce is the first one to realize that Jason freezes up, and goes to him, worried that something happened.

“Jason, whats wro—“ Then Bruce sees what’s in the box and pales. Everyone sees how Bruce freezes, just looking at the box.

Soon, one by one, it revealed: its Jokers decapated head.

Or alternatively, Jason is the last one to see what’s inside (Damian or someone else being the first). Up to you.

Anyways, there’s this card. Jason picks it up, and it reads:

As the Persians say: an eye for an eye. But the world doesn’t go blind. Happy Dead Clown Day, Jason.

—[Insert an intial or some shit]

Cue some time later, and, yes, it’s confirmed, this is Jokers head. You see, Jokers been awfully quiet for two years, as he went missing after an explosion rocked Arkham Asylum. This, is proof that Joker is finally dead.

News breaks that Joker is dead, and it follows Jason reaction to his death.

In my opinion he’d be lowkey angry that it wasn’t him who killed the damn Clown. But, holy shit. Holy shit. Holy shit. He’s... He’s dead. He’s finally fucking dead.

Cue some more time later, after everything has cooled down. Jason is in Robinson Park, sitting at a bench, when another kid (who kinda looks like Kid but Jason is too busy inner monologuing to care).

The kid speaks up, “You know, before I use to hate the phrase, ‘an eye for an eye’ ‘cause, the world would go blind.”

Jason freezes, and the kid continues. “But, now I get it. An eye for an eye, but the world never goes blind. Simple as that, since, sure, your blind in one eye, but justice was finally served, right Jason?”

The kid turns to him, and smiles. Not a too large, too sharp, too inhuman smile, but a sincere, warm one. “Y-Yeah.” Jason finally manages to choke out.

“It’s a nice day out, you know. It’s real nice. I know, that, at least you get to see more of these nice days.”

“You day that as if you can’t see days like these anymore.” He blurts out.

The kid sighs, with a bitter smile on their face. “Yeah, I can’t see or experience days like these anymore. I haven’t been able too for three years. But hey, an eye for an eye, but the world never goes blind.” As the kid speaks, their voice fades away. In a blink of an eye, the kid disappears, leaving behind daffodil and a note.

The note is an invitation for a funeral.

Jason goes to the Manor, specifically the cave, and conveniently everyone is there. Damian, Stephanie and Cass are sparring. Dick is using the aerial equipment. Bruce and Tim are working on some cases with Barbara helping. Alfred is done, handing out snacks.

Jason immediately shoves the card to Tim, who’s confused and then sees how utterly shaken up and pale he looks.

“Tell me what happened to this kid.”

Everyone immediately turns to Tim, as he types in their name, date and etc.

What they find out, is that, this kid, who died three years ago, died in the last ever attack wide scale attack the Joker committed. They were the only casualty in said attack (surprisingly).

And they were only 13. Like Jason. And the date of the attack... is the same day Jason died all those years ago in Ethiopia.

“I saw them.”

“...what?” Dick said, in an incredulous voice.

“I saw them. At Robinson Park. They even said that exact same phrase in that fucking card: an eye for an eye—“

“—and the world never goes blind.” Everyone says the last part in unison.

Then the Bats get news that rest of Jokers body was sent to the GCPD, addressed to—

-END-

Basically, that’s how the one shot goes. If anyone wants to use the idea:

Jason gets a package while he’s at the Manor. They test said package and nothing comes up. Some start arguing and someone opens the package (which is more dramatic, Jason seeing it first or last?). They see: Jokers decapiated head. Chaos ensues and a metric shit load of testing later, it’s confirmed: thats Jokers head. And Jokers been missing for [insert amount of time]. The Batfam then deal with the fallout of Joker being (finally) dead.

If anyone writes this, please tag me! I want too see ANGST, and FLUFF, and GOOD DAD BRUCE, and, DRAMA, and ALL THE BAT KIDS.

This is a hard one but I think Taka - ONE OK ROCK, Ken from VIXX, Yonghoon from ONEWE, Hui from Pentagon and more recently Eunkwang from BTOB. I know the first one isn’t kpop but his vocals are by far my favourite of all so I had to include him.

Jisung. Honestly pick any Stray Kids song and I can guarantee he sounds amazing in it.

Changbin same as Jisung. He really hit me with his flow in Hellevator all those years ago and I’ve never looked back.

Rocky. He just has such a good tone. I love it. His rap in ONE was my favourite part of the whole thing.

Taka. Again not kpop but honestly at this point I don’t want to live without his voice in my life

Ken. By far Ken is my favourite kpop vocalist and he really does deserve more attention for his vocals. I mean even though he made this for a laugh those vocals are no joke. And let us not forget his Rolling In The Deep cover. Honestly I could go on forever about his voice. From all his duet song festival performances to his solo album and covers to his career in vixx.

Yonghoon just has one of those voices that I adore. Whenever I listen to him everything feels like it’ll be okay again. It’s not the first time I’ve listened to this whole 30 min vid and it won’t be the last.

Yeah I loved seeing Nadia go out there and be her own person, but they could've handled the breakup better. Like he just weeped one episode and then he was all over Ari??? What kinda logic lmao. Did u like Mencia and Rebeka? I loved them put the prostitution storyline was really hard to watch. At least that guy got what he deserved.

And yeah don't see it either about Guzman, but I watched interviews with the actor and his personality definitely makes him attractive in a way. Don't come at me but I don't see it about Patrick, maybe he'll grow on me but I think he looks..too perfect like it's almost artificial 😭

And omg YES THE GIRLS!! Lu is everything I aspire to be tbh and she's stunning asf. Nadia's character was the most relatable out of all the girls to me and I'm just in love with her! Her hair and lips omg 🥺🥺🥺 Her entire self. Carla ofc is A DOLL and master manipulator girlboss, she's everyone's dream including mine. Ester Exposito looks like God tried to make the most perfect woman and succeded, she's just...wow. Rebeka is really the funniest most entertaining girl out there I wanna party with her!! Cayetana I loved even when people were hating on her. She grew so much this season ( the only one who did tbh.) I didn't really like Ari but there's not much to like or dislike, I'm waiting to see more of her without boys drama but I like that she warned Caye and supported her. Mencia is just so sweet y su voz tan lindaaa 🥺🥺🥺

I love all Elite women they are goddesses!!! But as characters Lu, Nadia, Carla and Rebeka are my faves for sure. Also Caye. So basically all of them, the new girls are too new for me to be attached but I'm rooting for them.

Dear Lunitamoon, my apologies for the late reply!

What’s my taste in Musicals?

General

Hmm, I don’t really have ONE taste in musicals, it just something that must ‘feel’ right. I think in general a musical needs to be a memorable stage spectacle. Unlike with movies, when I sit in a theatre it’s to see how cast/staff communicate a story, including things movies would have done with CGI or multiple takes and editing. In theatre it needs to go right in one go, and it’s gorgeous. What really blew me away for example is how in ‘Tango of the Campania’ they just used analog stuff like a big piece of cloth and puppets to do the epic battle scene! The more traditional the material and creative the solution, the more I like it. On the flip-side for this musical, I found it a pity they used the screen projections so damn much.

Story < Rest

When it comes to stories I’m generally also WAY more lenient with the plot/story. If the plot/story is bad, but the spectacle good, I still tend to really enjoy it. For example, in my personal opinion I find ‘1789 - Les Amants de la Bastille’ an abomination of a story. Most things are very cookie-cutter vanilla and predictable. However, the music, dance, set, choreography and just the PUNCH are sooooo incredibly good, I still feel the live goosebumps even now, 4 years later. For ‘1789′ I’d give the story a 4/10 and the performance a 12/10.

(Psst, 1789 was the reason I went from regular fan to fan-mom for Furukawa. That’s my origin story.)

Rest < Story

Other times the story is just absolutely great, but the rest just... isn’t adequate as a stage spectacle. ‘Mozart!’ in my opinion has a great story (8/10), and there are three songs that are through the ROOF in how good they are (12/10).... but all the other executions just fell so incredibly flat (3/10). Allow me to tell you an analogy to illustrate how MEH I think ‘Mozart!’ is: In 2018 Furukawa’s performance in ‘Mozart!’ was supposed to be his “inauguration” as ‘ogosho’ and his first lead at the Imperial Theatre main hall. As his loyal fan-mom I couldn’t really not go, I thought. But then shenanigans happened and I had to cancel. I was a bit sad, but I was only sad because I didn’t get to be there for Furukawa’s historical promotion. Not because I was going to miss ‘Mozart!’

Full spectacle!

Of course I love a musical best when both story and performance are good! In those cases it takes basically a gag-order to make me stfu about it. The TOHO version of ‘Elisabeth das Musical’ or ‘Romeo & Juliette’ for example. ‘Elisabeth’ is just phenomenal, it’s my all time fave. ‘R&J’ is a story that’s been chewed out for at least a hundred years, and love at first sight or star-crossed-lovers are things I can’t bear to see anymore normally. But the TOHO adaptation of Gérard Presgurvic’s version just brought SO many new things to light I was blown away all the same.

A special case

‘Marie Antoinette’ is a bit of a special case for me, because the story is PHENOMENAL (initial rating12/10), but everything else was just...fine(7/10)? I absolutely fell in love with this musical because I only saw the A-cast (Sasamoto, Sonim, Furukawa) of the revamp version. Their performance and interpretations were soooo off-the-chart, I was smitten. But then I watched other casts also from other countries... and I just went: “....is the musical just not THAT good but A-cast just turned it legend.......or did all other casts EXCEPT A-cast just fail? It can’t be that EVERYBODY failed right?????” It is only after comparison that I reassessed the story and gave it a (9/10), and realised my initial rating was 12 only because the +3 came from Sasamoto (+1) Sonim (+1) and Furukawa (+1). This is why I love theatre; because it does reruns other audio-visual media usually don’t, and therefore give you a “different” musical every time the cast is changed. This again brings me back to saying: “I think in general a musical needs to be a memorable stage spectacle."

Do I like English spoken musicals?

General

... I have only seen four so far, so that’s not a lot to go by ^^;;; Sorry. ... I have only seen ‘The Lion King’, ‘Anastasia’, ‘Phantom of the Opera’ and ‘Les Miserables', but I will go into a bit of detail! In general based on what little I have seen though: I think I DO like English spoken musicals, but I’m not in love the same way I am for Japanese musicals.

The singing quality for English musicals are VERY good, way better in general than their Japanese counterpart. However, I am also given a lot of reason to think English-spoken theatres recruit solely based on singing abilities? Or perhaps I’m just not used to the American theatre-style of acting. (Some non-Japanese fans have pointed out that Japanese theatre looks really cartoonish to them, while I myself go: “Eh?? You think so???” So it could be that I also think US theatre is cartoonish because I’m not used to it.)

The Lion King

‘The Lion King’ was absolutely stunning. It absolutely fulfilled the ‘memorable spectacle’ criterium I have for stage performances. The costumes and body-language are so mind blowing, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything else quite as creative. These were so creative I think it compensates for rehashing a story everybody already knows off the top of their head in delirious sleep.

Anastasia

Anastasia was really fun too! They went for a more realistic approach. The music is great, the thing they did with the train was amazing... but the characters felt really flat for me ^^;;; Grep was the new antagonist, and I think they built up the tension well... the climax however was........ I was disappointed okay?

Phantom of the Opera

Legendary voices, two amazing songs, the iconic little boat scene was mind-blowing... erm... that’s it. It’s not bad, it’s not good, but definitely doesn’t deserve the worldwide renown to this level in my humble opinion.

Les Miserables

I was miserable the entire musical. To me it’s SO bad I’m even a bit salty it’s being called the king of musicals.

It’s an extremely heartbreaking story that most of us don’t really think about until it’s put into this kind of perspective. This one is still ongoing, and I’m extremely excited to see how she handles the rest of the story. I highly recommend checking this one out. Just heed the warnings beforehand.

Ok, let me start by saying that I am a sucker for a good “character transported to alt. universe/world” fic. That said, I got soooooooooo addicted to this fic! For now, I’m recommending this first chapter, the starting point, which was already a beauty of its own. If you haven’t started yet yourself, prepare to be amazed.

Shadowhunters Fandom Story - Part Twenty

Five Fave Fics:

The first fic I have to pick is without a doubt Body of memory by @glorious-spoon

It was the very first fic I read on A03, and I wasnt even a member at that point. I had just binged three season of Shadowhunters, after you tube showed me a collection of malec scenes ( I'd come off a difficult night shift and couldn't sleep. I was perusing you tube, after being awake for over twenty six hours. )

Anyway, I decided it was a cool show, but i needed more. And it had been a while since I'd read fanfic - just life, kids, job etc, I hadn't had much time for reading. but I found myself on A03 and was literally scrolling the shadowhunters tag and say Body of memory. which sounded interesting. So I started it and I couldn't stop. I felt very emotionally invested instantly. It was almost complete when I found it - just one chapter to go, but it just was sooooo good. it literally grabbed me and I couldn't stop reading it. It felt very true to the characterization I had enjoyed in the show and it left enough to the imagination to keep me invested - as in it got me to read into things - it didn't neatly explain every single scene. It allowed some reader interpretation - I love that. It's my first book mark and remains something I dip into on a semi regular basis. This feels like it was the fic that became my gateway int Shadowhunters fic in general.

The second fic is Damsel in distress by @ralfstrashcan

This is like me. I read that and don't think I've actually laughed that much reading a fic ever. While spending the entire time understanding the main character so completely. It was a perfectly reasonable response to seeing a spider in my opinion. At the same time, from a lovely fluff pov I loved the characterization of Alec, that he'd be terrified of something yet try to save (while also using as a human shield, because all bets are off when spiders are involved.) that whole thing was just the absolute cutest.

Fic three - Reconstruction by bumblebeesknees.

The final chapter - the fight, and then the entire discussion about everything Alec has held back, trying to make himself "worthy" of Magnus. Fighting against the feelings and failures he perceives of himself. I found that entire thing so damn emotional and so so well written. It felt like a conversation. The way certain things get repeated, the way they both took a different meaning form the same words. And just the idea that they were both so broken without having the other one entirely - like them trying to hide their flaws, and so holding back bits of themselves, made the relationship completely nonviable while they were like that - and so that inevitable realization, that all of someone, even the less attractive traits are necessary for a relationship to be whole and healthy was just beautiful to me.

Fic four is One Missed Call by @sugarandspace

This one was almost hard to read. That whole first chapter - it felt very atmospheric, like you were there. The actual call - so Alec - he needs to hear Magnus' voice, yet he needs to make sure Jace will be ok too. So he takes that time. To ask Magnus to take care of Jace too. While letting Magnus know that he’s the most important thing in Alec's world. It's falling down around him and he needs Magnus to know his impact. His importance. How loved he is and the difference he has made. It's stunning.

Subsequent chapters are wonderful too, the fallout and reactions from everyone, the way Magnus didn't even turn his phone on for hours after, because nothing mattered at that point except Alec. And Alec eventually having to make Magnus delete that message. the feels were real in this one.

Fic 5 is my current love. You, Your Sex is On Fire by jumbled_sentiment

She knows I love this fic because I stalk her in the comments for updates. It's hard for me to explain why I love this. Its just sweet. It's Alec and Magnus just kinda falling together and realizing they just fit. They're so different, yet they compliment each other beautifully. I like the way it starts all in kind of thing, literally with them in bed together, then works back. And then them getting together is just cute and lovely. And again very personally this has had some updates waiting for me on days when I have really needed a come down from work. The timing has been impeccable sometimes :) And I absolutely love it, probably more than I should, finding all the little bits of British wording that slip through. It entertains me more than it probably should when I'm reading and I read something very obviously British, like pavement, mum, fringe, bloody (As in "oh bloody hell" to describe irritation, not a descriptor of blood.) I just find myself getting very excited when I get an email telling me there’s a new chapter.

Director’s Commentary: I’d Love to Change the World but I Don’t Know What to Do (Bellarke modern royals/arranged marriage AU)

First things first, Nat @alltheworldsinmyhead suggested this idea to me and I’ve loved her ever since.

Clarke doesn’t know a lot about the revolution in the streets of The Kingdom of Ark. The only thing she remembers is Wells making her get up in the middle of the night, eyes like a forest animal caught in wildfire, saying, “We’ve got to go.”

I really wanted this beginning to be impactful. I had the whole scene in my head - royalty looking back over her shoulder, only to find her home burning.

One thing is true about the revolution and it is that it devours its own children.

This is something that my dad once quoted to me: “Revolution devours its own children.” It became the leitmotif for the entire story because in the second part - I Just Want to Turn the Lights on in These Volatile Times - Bellamy was betrayed so yes, revolution had indeed planned to devour that particular child.

After the wedding, Clarke pretty much tells him the same thing:

“Let me tell you how this is going to go, Blake.” She draws closer to him, careful to stand her ground and to stop her voice from shaking because she is seething with rage – this boy wants nothing but power and he thinks it’s going to go so well now that he’s got it. “The king is dead, long live the king. Is the phrase familiar to you? Because no king is loved, every king is just tolerated. That’s how it goes. They’ll string you up the same they want to string my mother up.”

I really wanted to show the clash of their personalities through this fic, how they’re approaching the same goal with wildly different methods. I also wanted to emphasize the importance of being as careful as Clarke when changing the world.

Also, I wrote the sex scene to the tune of Jetta’s Start a Riot. (:

I was also going to write a Lincoln + Octavia one shot inspired by Joseph Brodsky’s poem, Belfast Tune.

Director’s Commentary: Livewire (Bellarke soulmate AU)

This was written during my “Oh my God, he’s Atlas, how d e e p” phase. In general, I don’t really understand why people like Livewire so much, but I do have a sweet spot for it. (:

Another thing is that I wrote so much soulmate AUs is because I love writing magical realism. The other part of the appeal was the fact that at the end of the day, there was still a choice. Soulmate or not, you get to choose whether that’s the person you want to be with, stars be damned.

"Maybe I am ridiculous for not caring, but." But it feels like it's not real, like the soulmate is just a dream, a haze bound to dissipate any moment now. "I have time."

You know that feeling when you’re with someone and you know that a first kiss between you two is somewhere down the line? You can feel that it’s bound to happen.

And because it’s a given, you make that sweet moment of electric anticipation last as long as possible, just savor it all.

This is partly the idea behind Clarke’s reluctance to meet her soulmate. She’s got time. He’s there already. What’s the rush? Make the delightful suspense last.

(I mean, she’s obviously angstier than me, too.)

A new drawing appears on Bellamy’s wrist when he starts working in the diner. It’s old, exposed brick and chipped away paint, linoleum floors that transport him to a different age and a creaky coffeemaker.

I really, really fucking love diners. I don’t know what does it for me, but like - checkered linoleum floors? Leather booths? Comforting hot coffee? Sign me the fuck up!!!

Idk if this is something people notice, but I have A LOT of diners in my fics.

The artist sits in the last booth every morning, takes her coffee with two sugars and frowns after the first taste. She never pours maple syrup on her pancakes, but she wants cream and gets it on her nose more often than she would like. Her fingers pull at her sleeves, tug them over her knuckles, and she looks like she’s cold even when it’s more than warm in the diner.

Love is attention, y’all!

Also, pay attention to how their relationship develops from there without them knowing they were soulmates. I think that’s really important, I try to incorporate that in my soulmate fics to reinforce the point of them liking each other as people, and making that the reason they’re going to be together - not stars or soulmarks or whatever.

They sit on the warm asphalt in front of a kebab kiosk, shoulder to shoulder, and Clarke is the one who reaches for him first, tentative.

I saw a picture of a girl wearing a gown and a leather jacket and just sitting on the pavement, and I loved it. Also, I love kebabs.

Personally, what I dislike the most about Livewire is that I didn’t go into detail on some aspects of Clarke and Bellamy as people. But I think it turned out okay anyway.

Also, the fic was titled after Oh Wonder’s Livewire. It’s a gorgeous song. :)))

Director’s Commentary: Feel It in the Space Between (Bellarke dancers AU)

Ahh look okay, listen, I’m a good dancer. A really good dancer. (In terms of club dancing, that is.) But the one thing I cannot do is relax my fucking shoulders. I deeply admire people who can, especially those who can wave their arms up in the air and everything.

This fic was born out of that particular frustration.

I also watched a lot of contemporary dancing videos on YouTube and they were just so, so stunning.

Dancing comes easy to some people, as easy as drinking water. They move and you can feel the unity with the universe in their bones. They move and it feels right.

To Clarke, dancing is blood and viscera, muscles spasming after a long practice, beads of sweat pooling in her collarbone. To her, it’s a battle, it’s a fight, it’s more bloody knuckles than soft swaying.

Dancing was also a good channel through which I could express Clarke’s fear of losing control and giving in.

I also really loved all the soft, golden glow-y scenes in the studio. They felt really tender to me and I enjoyed writing them. :)))

Clarke can’t cook for shit but he can. He putters around her kitchen with practiced ease as she sits on the kitchen island and pours them wine.

(...)

He flicks his water-soaked fingers at her and Clarke squeals, readying the tomato sauce-stained rag.

........ and then there was domestic intimacy.

My fics also contain a lot of scenes where Bellamy is cooking and Clarke’s just chilling on the counter, shooting shit.

(Probably because I, too, cannot cook, and I appreciate being fed well.)

Finally, the one thing I’d change would be that miscommunication - she thought he was rejecting her, and he was just surprised she kissed him. I don’t like using miscommunication as part of the plot because it always feels very lazy to me.

But it was something new to write, and I’m glad you liked it! :D

WHY I LOVE ZADR!!!

HEY GUYS WHASSUP? LMAO

So this is a whole ass giant long post of me absolutely spewing my feelings of love for ZADR, it was the very first thing I wrote when I made this blog and I think it’s a nice, positive thing for my fellow shippers to inhale and enjoy 👌👌

it was originally a reply to mitarashiart’s post about why HE loves ZADR (link in replies) but I decided to delete that and make my own post since MY WHOLE ENTIRE TEXT WALL WAS SHOWN IN THE REPLIES and drowned out anyone else who was trying to talk (thanks tumblr mobile u fuckin idiot)

I had also posted a summary of an AU that I’m working on in the original post, but decided to remove it since it just about doubled the length (I’m thinking about posting it separately along with the wips I’ve been putting together, we’ll see 👀)

But ANYWAY, here is about a million reasons why I think ZADR is the fucking best, so if you like reading gushy gay ship feelings, please enjoy ❤️❤️❤️

SOOO, holy hell y’all my journey back into this fandom has been a wild and unique experience for me, i went from adding invader zim to my bookmarks on kisscartoon, rewatching the series, finding out theres a movie coming out, finding out there was a shitload of content i’d never seen before (commentaries, lost episode scripts and audios, panels, the COMIC, episodes i’d never seen because the dvd i used to watch was scratched!! and a FUCKLOAD of quality modern fan art like oh my GOD) and finally curiously googling ‘zadr’ (which i was way into when i was maybeee 13/14) to see if there was any interesting new art, and holy hell, mita (the artist above) singlehandedly THREW me down the hole into modern zadr hell, first with his absolutely stunning IZ art (all his art is dope tho check him out yo), then reading the above explanation put the final nail in the coffin like, 100%

so i wanted to add onto his post here on why this ship got me so fucked up, both for anyone who might be wondering why on earth i’m shipping two characters from a kid’s show (i’m very aware how weird that is at first glance trust me) and also so i can get some ideas down for possible future reference (will i ever draw them? maybe)

(first of all, a disclaimer, and this is not pleasant to write but it’s important to address for clarity’s sake: I have no interest in romantic or sexual relationships between minors, and do not ship zim and dib as they are presented canonically in the show (as children). what i’m interested in is the conceptualized relationship they may have as modern adults, and i view zadr more as taking the concepts of existing characters and experimenting with them with different interpretations, which i personally think is a constructive and fun creative outlet, especially if these characters hold personal significance for you (childhood faves of course). growing up together is an important facet of their relationship, and certainly they were important to each other even as children (see: mopiness of doom) but as an adult i’m personally curious about what kind of adults they might’ve become, and that’s the focus of my interest. i’ll still be reblogging regular IZ art because it’s dope but if you see shippy looking art of them as tiny lil beans its either friendship or chibis (and i personally headcanon zim as getting taller with dib but some people stick with his canonical height when drawing them as adults, which is super short. it still doesn’t mean he’s a kid). aaand i wish i didnt have to write this and it would just be obvious but we live in a sick sad world and it is sourced from a children’s cartoon so i feel its necessary. end of disclaimer)

NOW THAT THAT’S OUT OF THE WAY

- ok, first reason’s a bit obvious - the nostalgia. holy hell, the feeling of rediscovering a ship that was popular when i was a preteen during the mid 2000s and discovering a totally new perspective on it as an adult comes with an almost totally overwhelming sense of nostalgia and comfort, as well as inspiration!! the kind of art that seems so common for zadr, these sketch pages of scenes and expressions and visual gags where artists would just scribble every idea they had and LOVE doing it, this was exactly the kind of art that made me so passionate about drawing as a kid, and it still sparks such a powerful feeling of love and admiration for me to this day. fan content of iz and zadr is simultaneously achingly familiar and totally new and fascinating, and it just makes me SO damn happy to consume, it is most definitely my new comfort content. and just, GOD. THE ART!! SO GOOD. FUCK

- now for the characters themselves: for some reason i just really love the thought of a mid twenties, modern Dib?? lanky goth dork, disaster bi, depressed as shit, uses bad sweaters and memes to cope?? when i was a kid i didn’t even LIKE Dib, but now i totally sympathize with him! he’s just a hyper obsessive nerd wishing there was more to life than the situation he got stuck with, how wildly relatable. he was a pretty big asshole as a kid (even to people besides zim) but he was also totally isolated and constantly bullied, so there’s a lot of room for growth. i feel there’s a lot of juicy character development potential for that boy, and there’s always been a special place in my heart for characters who are totally sad and screwed and hopeless, but there’s one thing, or person, that means the world to them and could possibly save them…

- aliens. Zim. i love nonhuman characters, i love monsters, i love aliens, i love characters that don’t understand human shit (and thus have much less room for shame or fear bc theyre just totally oblivious the negatives of modern society) and need guidance (bonding!!) from their human. i also love morally grey characters and characters with skewed logic, they’re always really interesting, and Zim himself just has such a unique personality and set of mannerisms, he contradicts himself a lot and you can never quite expect how he’ll behave, and i love that in a character, it makes them super versatile and fun, especially since there’s so many different possibilities for their development. Also, Zim is a gremlin, a little shit, and a disaster. I also love those traits in a character. And don’t even get me started on his character design?? big sparkly eyes? expressive antennae? monster teeth? complimenting colors? he’s adorable.

- mutual obsession. for someone like Dib, who seems almost repulsed by how boring and slow the people around him are, Zim quite literally personifies Dib’s escapist fantasies, both as an inhuman entity from beyond the stars, and as a person who’s knowledge, charisma and mystery far exceeds that of anyone Dib has met in his entire life. (so basically what i’m saying is that for a shunned, jaded misanthropist, an actual alien is terribly alluring, even if said alien is dangerous, stupid, and possibly insane). not to mention Zim vindicates Dib’s entire life passion, the supernatural! Even when their relationship is totally negative, there is not a single inch of room for Dib to get tired of Zim. as mita explained, they validate each other. for Zim, WHO AGAIN, IS TOTALLY SHUNNED, ISOLATED, AND HATED BY EVERYONE HE KNOWS, Dib is the only person in the universe who gives a single shit about him!! he gives Zim credit as a threat, a capable invader, which if you ask me is the sole thing Zim is after (he’s hellbent on his mission because it would win him the approval of the tallest, all he’s ever wanted is recognition from the people he thinks so highly of). He literally gets depressed when Dib isn’t around to pay attention to him, not even the tallest were enough to motivate him before Dib came back. these two have no one and nothing without each other, and while lifelong nemeses is fine and dandy, i personally prefer friendship, affection and love, cause i’m a softie like that. how could they possibly get there after years of actively trying to kill each other?? well, i think under just the right circumstances it could become a possibility after a long, long time.

- growth. i. love. me. some. good. character growth. especially for characters with trauma/mental illness, bc again, relatable. these boys have issues, and as mita mentioned, their canon stories are actually INCREDIBLY sad! but the happy thought is, they could recover! they could help each other recover, for little reason other than the two are the only source of happiness for each other. now of course this also opens the gate for angst lovers, but at the same time offers potential for comforting, uplifting content of the boys supporting and inspiring each other, maybe even to the point of becoming happy and healthy enough to create the lives they want for themselves (as in appreciating life and doing things that make them actually happy instead of the delusions of grandeur they both sought when they were younger). gimme that positive shit and let the poor beans be happy щ(ಠ益ಠщ)

- LITTLE THINGS. LITTLE THINGS THAT ONLY COME WITH CHILDHOOD FRIENDS. WITH HUMAN/NONHUMAN. WITH THE SHOW’S WEIRD LOGIC. Zim being the person Dib knows best and vice versa. Zim having an involuntary respect/admiration for Dib because he’s tall. Learning each other’s needs, limits, and communication methods, both emotionally and biologically. Sensitive antennae. Affectionate bickering. Being less insecure bc your partner literally has no idea why you see your flaws as flaws. Laughing at the flaws they do notice because they make no sense. Zim only wanting to eat waffles and chow mein. Dib being forced to overcome his depression lethargy and stay hygienic/keep the apartment clean because Zim has a sharper sense of smell and is afraid of germs. Endless conversation about anything and everything because they’re from literally different worlds, and endless intrigue. TOUCHING. TALKING. DOING EVERYTHING LIKE ITS THE VERY FIRST TIME AND ALWAYS NEEDING THE OTHER TO GUIDE THEM. HOLY HELL THERE IS SO MUCH POSSIBILITY FOR TINY LITTLE MOMENTS THAT MEAN THE WORLD. FUCK. GOT ME FUCKED UP.

ok lads its time for my breakdown of folklore, something absolutely no one is asking for but here we are!! this album. thIs ALBUMMMM. dear GOD. the intersection of my two favorite things, taylor swift and indie folk???? i feel like i’m dreaming. when she announced the surprise drop i literally burst into tears and evidently for good reason lol.

anywho here’s the thing. Red has been my all time favorite album for 8 years now. it holds such an important place in my life and i never thought anything she did could come close (though Lover almost did). but this. THIS IS BETTER THAN RED

the lyrical genius is unmatched here. taylor isn’t just writing songs here, this is POETRY. every song is nuanced, intricate, devastatingly beautiful, with words that’ll haunt me for a long time. and the fact that it’s stories, literal folklore, no longer just about her own life is incredibly creative and is executed so well for someone who has interwoven her life into her entire body of music thus far. folklore blends facts with fiction so seamlessly and is a true exhibition of taylor’s power as a songwriter.

and the vibessss!! from haunting heartbreak songs, to ethereal lost-in-the-woods vibes, to a comforting return to her old self, this album has everything. taylor is without a doubt one of the most versatile artists of our generation, having success and skill in multiple genres and folklore only solidifies this fact.

the 1: hell yeah explicit tswift give it to me lol you ARE on some new shit!! ok when i first listened to this i hadn’t read her statement about the other perspectives and i was about to RIOT about her and joe breaking up (like they could ever lol). this is such a catchy beat, such a casual?? look at such a painful feeling? a really good start to this album. the part where she goes another day waking up aLONE killlllllls me wow

fave lines: “in my defense i have none/for never leaving well enough alone”

cardigan: (don’t get me started on the mv it’s gorgeous) YES THE TEENAGE LOVE TRIANGLE suchhh a good concept!! the melody of this song is unreal, the chorus makes me want to scream it’s so beautiful, the i-i-i is SOMETHING ELSE. it’s crazy how just the melody makes betty’s pain so palpable, but so enchanting at the same time. it’s bittersweet and cinematic and i’m in love. PETER LOSING WENDY GOD. easily top 5 song here

fave lines: “when you are young they assume you know nothing”, “cause i knew you/ heartbeat on the high line/ once in 20 lifetimes i” “you drew stars around my scars/but now i’m bleeding”

the last great american dynasty: watch hill!!! her watch hill house!! i live near there!! oh i think this song is so clever and i love how it ties into mad woman as well as harkens back to starlight. i LOVE the way she ties her self in, “and then it was bought by me” like ughhh her mind? and its catchy AF

fave lines: “i had a marvelous time ruining everything”

exile: YOU KNOW HOW TO DO AN INDIE ALBUM??? BRING BON IVER INTO THIS SHIT!! wowww this song is haunting and is definitely the “i’m you but stronger” version of The Last Time. the overlap of both of them singing and their parallel lines are flawless. i could play this on repeat for hours and contemplate my whole existence

fave lines: “you never gave a warning sign/i gave so many signs”

my tears ricochet: ok somehow a track 5 with tears in the title is not the saddest song here but DAMN is it good. I love the visual of someone watching over their funeral and reacting. the music is stunningggg here. ALSO i am pretty convinced this is about the whole scott/scooter drama, like the lyrics fit so well? and she said it was the first song she wrote so the timeline kinda fits?? geniusss

fave lines: “I didn’t have it in myself to go with grace”, “and if i’m dead to you/why are you at the wake?”

mirrorball: ohhhh this one is so pretty!! it just makes me want to dance around the kitchen with the person i love??? its comforting, ethereal, happyyy ugh i love it. I also think it could be about her relationship with her fans? like her music shows us different sides of ourselves idk? or just absorbing into a relationship?

fave lines: “on my tallest tiptoes/shining just for you”

seven: i’m gonna call this now: this is going to be the most underrated song on this album. it is STUNNING. POETIC. HEARTBREAKING. the music is so hauntingly nostalgic. and the lyrics, holy absolute shit. they’re a delicate testament to childhood, memory, and innocent love. it’s gut wrenching and i love it so so much

fave lines: “i’ve been meaning to tell you/i think your house is haunted/your dad is always mad/and that must be why”, “and just like folk song/our love will be passed on”, “before i learned civility/ i used to scream ferociously” ALL OF IT

august: and now we get the girl james cheated with’s perspective, which i think is great. its sunny, wistful and sad underneath all that beautiful production. when she slides from the chorus to the “back when we we’re changing for the better” and hits that “mineeee to lose” GOD, it just fills your chest. i feel like even if you never have, this makes anyone feel like they know exactly what a summer fling feels like. one of my faves

fave lines: “august slipped away/like a bottle of wine”, “cancel my plans just in case you call/ and say meet me behind the mall”

this is me trying: the slow pacing of this melody serves to show these EXQUISITE lyrics here. this is so intimate and personal and i feel like everyone can relate to this feeling of just trying to hold on and put on a brave face?

fave lines: “they told me all of my cages were mental/ so i got wasted like all my potential”

illicit affairs: ok all you need to know about this one is a) I’m obsessed b) this is the closest she has come to creating a bridge that makes me feel like the All Too Well bridge has, like scream sobbing in the car type vibe??? its unreal. and this song makes me feel that shitty feeling of: “this was supposed to be casual but oops its very much not” hmmm maybe that’s where the scream sobbing comes from hahah

fave lines: “don’t call me kid/don’t call me baby/look at this godforsaken mess that you made me/you showed me colors you know i can’t see with anyone else”

invisible string: this. THIS is probably her most stunning love song. like. i thought it was Lover. i was wrong. this one is confidently from Taylor’s perspective, about Joe and dear lord i want a love like theirs. and shit does this song put the folk in folklore, the music is so simple and gorgeous and harkens back to her country roots without losing this new sound she has. and the first few notes remind me of Mystery of Love by Sufjan Stevens so instantly im sold. this and betty are tied for my number 1, it’s just too beautiful

fave lines: “time curious time/give me no compasses/give me no signs” “isn’t it just so pretty to think/all along there was some invisible string/tying you to me”, “cold was steel of the axe that i had to grind/for the boys who broke my heart/now i buy their babies presents”, “hell was the journey/but it brought me heaven”

mad woman: FUCK YOU FOREVERRRRRR!!! yes taylor said fuckkkk ugh i LOVE this vibe, the revenge of the mad woman that the town cast out is so eerie and powerful, i’m obsessed. it ties back into the maddest woman of TLGAD and it feels like a spiritual sequel to The Man, the same feminist thread weaving through it. the lyrics are razor sharp and biting, i love it

fave lines: “and you poke that bear/till the claws come out/ and you find something/ to wrap your noose around”, “it’s obvious wanting me dead has really brought you two together”

epiphany: so uhhh THIS is the saddest song on folklore. fight me. the seamless comparison between wartime and the pandemic and waiting for some epiphany that could make sense of all the horrors surrounding the both. idk man, as someone who’s been a covid nurse since March, i just….this one HURTS. similar to Soon You’ll Get Better tbh

fave lines: “hold your hand through plastic now/doc i think she’s crashing out/and somethings you just can’t speak about”

betty: OH I LOVE IT WITH MY WHOLE HEART! this is such a TRIUMPHANT return to old taylor, it is so joyful but sad at the same time?? the harmonica?? the last part of the love triangle?? it sounds like Taylor Swift and Fearless all grown up and it makes me ache for back then, but love where we are right now. tbh the first time i heard this i sobbed through the whole thing just out of pure nostalgia. she’s back but at the same time she never left. this feels like a love song to original fans and it. is. incredible. my favoriteeee goddd

fave lines: THE WHOLE CHORUS BABYYYYY

peace: it’s gorgeous, especially the guitarrr ugh. this feels like delicate’s quiet older sister. i think it’s definitely about joe and how taylor, despite loving him, still has these insecurities and fears about what a relationship with someone in her position could be like? like there will be struggles, but he’s her family and she “would die for you in secret”. stunning

fave lines: “i’m a fire and i’ll keep your brittle heart warm”, “the devils in the detail/but you’ve got a friend in me”, “give you my wild/give you a child”

hoax: i’m surprised she ended it on a sad one (but we still have the lakes!!) but this song is hauntingly beautiful WOW. every line of this absolutely floors me. i think this one will also be largely underrated, but it is pure poetry and deserves so so much hype

fave lines: “stood on the cliffside/screaming give me a reason/your faithless love’s the only hoax i believe in”, “it still hurts underneath my scars/from when they pulled me apart/but what you did was just as dark” “my kingdom come undone/ my broken drum/ you have beaten my heart”
