Just kidding I just lied I was talking to my partner the other day and no one REALLY says that their favorite powerpuff girl is Blossom (I'm also guilty of this, Bubbles is my favorite) but I really do adore her so much 😭😭 she's for the burnt out gifted children

Going back to this debate
I know Ellle is a multifaceted individual that much is obvious she’s not one dimensional she has many elements to her personality. Additionally, it’s important to remember that even on the spectrum of masculine and feminine, Ellie isn’t completely one or the other. She exists in some sort of grey area between them, embodying both masculine and feminine traits. She’s not defined by one end of the spectrum, but rather by the interplay of these two extremes.
Yet at times the characterisation of Ellie is laced with internalised misogyny. And highlights the way “masc presenting” lesbians are treated in real life tied down to the “man” in the relationship why is Ellie mostly written as the dominant one especially when coupled with fem reader why do we head canon her as a top when it’s literally canon that she’s a switch? Why is there an infinite amount of “ellie taking care of the reader on her period” scenarios outnumber “Reader taking care of Ellie on her period” Ellie written as tall towering over fem reader and not like she’s literally 5’5
The fact is that there’s a heteronormative slant to the way people write her. Like I said almost never written as a switch, but a top. To some extent been portrayed as tall and dominating, never small or vulnerable. And Santa Barbara Ellie is often sexualized even though she is deeply traumatized and emotionally tormented. The problem is that people are viewing her through male-centric lenses, reducing her to an object of desire rather than a fully fleshed out woman with a complex, nuanced personality which includes many dimensions, some of which may be considered feminine.
There is no specific way to be a “masc lesbian” a woman nor feminine and express your femininity. Nor should that separate her from her womanhood/femininity. in a way it’s her way of showing how feminine she is. maybe not stereotypically through outward appearances, but her general identity. she’s a woman who experiences the same struggles that women do, Obviously she doesn’t waver just on the lines of black and white, she’s all rounded. In between. Grey area. The point I’m trying to make is that she’s all and above, you can be both masc and fem. I would add that Ellie's femininity is often overlooked or even belittled by people who only focus on traits that appeal to them. Not her emotional intelligence, her caring nature, her resilience, her dedication to her loved ones. Fuck she’s also a soft heart and a tender soul. These aspects of her are just as important to her character, she is a whole person ffs, exceptionally fleshed out
So fuck
“the hot wife and her hot boyfriend”
Why not
“The hot wife and her hot wife”
“She’s so boyfriend
Uh
“She’s so girlfriend”
Santa Barbara/Seattle is literally at her most vulnerable, disheveled state that girl is literally plagued with trauma, stuck in a limbo of “do I seek vengeance in the name of losing my family and absolutely everything or stay and suffer in silence (at who’s expense?? Hers) Yet we sexualise tf out of her, the most vulnerable pinnacle of existence—glorified and romanticised bc it’s “hot”
this is not a dig at anyone you’re free to write whatever tf you want bro it’s your platform but pls let’s not bs and pretend as of this doesn’t occur

It's been a week since I saw Wakanda Forever, and ever since, it's consumed my thinking. There are a million things I'd love to discuss about the film, but what keeps me up at night is Shuri and Namor.
Shuri had every right to gut his ass. Namor brought flooding and destruction to her home, killed her mother, all while knowing she was suffering from the death of her brother. Hell, Namor nearly killed her (by impaling her, which how did she survive that idk, anyway). And what was the worst thing that Shuri had done to him? Say no to his alliance to go to war with the surface world? Shuri wasn't the one who killed Namor's two subjects. She actually tried to save them. Yet just like T'Challa, she's forced to deal with the consequences of other people's actions, and when she stands over Namor with a blade to his neck, her internal struggle with this flashes across screen. It's a powerful sequence, but the one that captures me the most is when we hear her mother telling her to show Namor who she is. Not only is it one of many callbacks to the first film, but really, who is she? Who is Shuri? She is struggling with her identity, as grief often does to a person.
When audiences first met Shuri, she was the genius younger sister, the comic relief, who took solace in her lab. But now all this has been taken from her, and taken so suddenly. She's now front and center, now her country's most powerful figure, no longer the jokester, no longer a sister, no longer a daughter, and feels like a failure. The moments where she stands over Namor is us watching her return to herself but also become someone entirely new. She sees the destruction reverse. Sees Namor's hope. Sees their mothers and their nations. She understands that they are similar just as much as they are different. She finally realizes that ending Namor's life cannot reverse the destruction nor her pain, but sparing him is the answer to ending the cycle of it. She recognizes that even though her mother and brother are gone, she is still sister, still daughter. Death in Wakanda is a beginning.
Above all, Shuri understands she cannot think of only herself anymore. She cannot push her people to war because of her own grief and vengefulness. She becomes a leader, in granting mercy. A protector.  And extends this protection by offering it to Namor and his people. This brought a bitter taste in my mouth at first, but it isn't about who's right or wrong, especially when both sides have a little right or a little wrong to them. It's about navigating the actions of their forebearers in the best way they can.
Her multifaceted character is symbolized by her panther suit--it's reminiscent of T'Challa, Kilmonger, and her past self. Now that she's burned her mourning clothes, hopefully in the next movie, we'll see her accept this role with newfound confidence and surity of its purpose. I'm also hoping that Shuri kept Namor's little baby ankle wing that she sliced off and puts it up somewhere to serve as a reminder that she bested him. Can you imagine? I can't wait to see more of her.
Then there's Namor. And dare I say it, he was justified in his feelings of wanting to kill Queen Ramonda. She was cunning and tricked him and had two of his people killed in the process. Remember the scene where he's cradling his subject's face as she dies? And she asks if he can save her and he does not answer because he knows he cannot? And then--was it Namora?--who says, with such blame dripping in her voice, that he was busy meeting with the queen during Nakia's attack. Namor is so angry, and very possibly, so ashamed (and scared?). His ultimate goal is to protect his people, and he failed. He's a god and Ramonda made him look like a fool. To him, she had to go.
Ryan Coogler said that despite Namor being about 500 years old, he wanted him to still feel somewhat childlike. And is he! He's rash. He focuses only on the immediate response without thinking of the ramifications. He seems almost charmingly innocent in his hopefulness that Shuri would want to join him. There's no doubt they wanted us to feel a romantic connection betweeen them, or perhaps just from Namor's end. I don't know who gives clearance on the music, but whoever does, they are always very intentional and unique about it, and a love song plays during That One Mesmerizing Scene. The theories that Namor is infatuated with Shuri just weaken me. She's the first person to ever see Talocan. The bracelet. The mural. Him acknowdging her power. Him waiting for her to beckon him. I. have. folded. No one look at me.
I really hope the MCU explores their relationship. And though I'm sure it would never be a romantic one, that does not make it any less intriguing. Ryan is phenomenal with his villains. Just like Kilmonger challenged T'Challa not just with war, but challenged his core beliefs, Namor did the same with Shuri. The only difference now is that Namor is still alive, and this sets us up for a delicious exploration of a complex relationship between two leaders who have similar wants but conflicting perspectives.
Man. I love them. MCU, please let us see more of them. And if we do, please. Be careful with them.

An incomplete but very angry diatribe about the missed potential of the Star Sapphires
Tumblr media
So back in the day Geoff Johns and co decided to open up the Green Lantern mythos and add some more flavor and expand the concept of sci-fi tech powered by elemental emotion to more than just willpower. Which yes, is not an emotion, we ignore it and move on.
Anyway we got some really cool stuff! A rage tyrant fueled by experiencing incredible injustice on a personal and cosmic scale, whose vendetta twisted him into something terrible. An avatar of greed who was never allowed to have anything, not freedom, not family, not safety, who takes and takes and takes to fill a void that can never be satisfied. A priest who lost everything but presses on through his unshakable hope that the future can and will be better. It's a lot of fun stuff!
So in this great creative re-imagining, they had to do something clever and fun with the idea of an all female corps powered by love right? They took the opportunity to move past the purely romantic, sexual idea of love and the obsessed femme fatale archetype, because they had the chance to really explore different types of affection now that there were a bunch of different avatars with different stories to pull from right?
Right?
Nope! The only Sapphires we ever learn about are heartbroken over a cursed romance like Carol, grieving a dead fiance like Miri Riam, forcibly mind controlled to be one like Fatality, or just Miss Bloss who...kind of said she wanted to join up? No clue what her deal is, as far as I'm aware that's never really explained. And then we just never learn about anyone else, and still haven't. The hell is "The Lost Sapphire"? No idea, we'll likely never know.
It's frustrating because not only is this a glaring example of the depth of plotlines offered to women in comics compared to their male counterparts, but also a wild lack of imagination. Love is one of the most complicated emotions we experience. Fear, anger, hope, all pretty easy to quickly define. Love is multifaceted, cultural, incredibly contextual and a factor in so many different kinds of relationship. Just thinking logically it should be much easier to flesh out the motivations of a group pulling from such a nuanced source of power, versus something as clear-cut as rage. But no, the red lanterns got so many varied reasons for their rage, the male ones especially: Bleez being the woman was of course given the SA narrative, which I don't think is inappropriate on its own, that's an incredibly valid reason to be angry, but as the ONLY truly prominent female Red Lantern it's like...c'mon guys. But still, at least she and Atrocitus had different reasons for becoming what they are, and that variation was played for plot and drama.
But there's not a single Star Sapphire that personally champions something other than romantic love. And before you shoot me, it is explicitly mentioned that they DO protect other forms of love, so there's no reason for them to all be sexy and obsessed with kissing people. There are no Sapphires that are driven by:
The love of their children and families, even in a tragic sense, like Atrocitus and Saint Walker and Larfleez are...
Their love of their people, or their culture. It would have been interesting if Fatality was inducted BECAUSE of her pain at losing her world, but no, they just...replaced her anger with lovey vibes and called it a day.
Their love for nature. Not everyone is social, but social love isn't the only way to strongly experience the emotion.
Their love for themselves. Where is the fun narcissistic ass who loves their own self image to the point of getting powers? It would have been a fun twist and a cool way to get another villainous Sapphire if you wanted to.
Their platonic love of ANYTHING really. Are ace/aro people just...not capable of love then? It doesn't mean anything to be willing to drive cross country to help a friend move just because they needed it and you care? No? You need to be fucking for it to count?
It's like...fascinating if you really think about it. In this vast fantasy universe full of alien races with wildly different perceptions and life cycles, and where the other corps have plenty of non-human, truly alien looking members, that the women's only love corps is full of only hot hot scantily clad baddies. Most love that people experience in their lives isn't even romantic! You will have far more experiences with friends and family members and even loving strangers than you will have with romantic partners.
Like the reason is clearly sexism, duh, but we know sexism is bad, that's obvious, what I really want to make clear is how much this blatant, unexplored sexism just completely desecrated the potential of the worldbuilding here.
From another angle even: Let's say this this WAS the sex and romance all the time corps. Let's say that you wanted to keep it all women. I hate the idea that women are capable of love in a way that men aren't, that's such a bad take and just regressive and unhelpful, but let's just play ball for a moment. They're not even hot? Their designs are such ridiculously narrow versions of feminine attractiveness that they're not even successful at really being mass appeal sexy. I haven't even reached the point of complaining about the fatphobia and criminal lack of different body types yet, I'm still just saying that from the standpoint of fantasy sexy it's not even good at being stereotypical offensive fantasy sexy. It's just boring! They're all so visually boring! You can be scantily clad and still have an interesting and coherent character design! But that is not what they gave these women! They actually redesigned the classic Star Sapphire costume and made it MORE sexist and boring:
Tumblr media
Yeah it was cheesy but it was also cute and fun? The design is playful classic sci-fi girl and this is when she was still a dangerous unhinged villain. Its fun to look at and feels tonally coherent next to Green Lantern.
And then they just...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No actually, I will not explain this one, you have eyes.
And yeah they fixed her costume finally,
Tumblr media
But! She's still stuck as Hal Jordan's romantic punching bag, and has not gotten to have any new adventures on her own.
So.
What I'm saying is it's a flop all around. 2/10, and only because despite everything Fatality STILL managed to serve. I actually think that all of the corps have been poorly used since blackest night, even the greens actually, but they never even gave the Sapphires a chance. They last showed up in...a WW annual I think? During the whole dark gods event, they needed Diana to help them fight the evil god of love, and there was a guy in the corp finally, and they talked about sisterhood and then we haven't heard a peep from them since. I think Carol might be due to get her ring back in the GL ongoing but she's not really been treated well so far, so I'm not hopeful for anything fresh and well reasoned.
So my lovely ladies (and that one unnamed guy), until they let you get it together it may be time to

Y'all ever notice that Fujiko receives a disproportionate amount of hate in the fandom? I'm sure it's something we've all seen, especially if you're a fan of her, but I don't really see it discussed.
I'm bringing it up now because for the past couple of months, I keep running into new fans that are very vocal about disliking her. And while I understand that everyone has their preferences, the reasons they give for why they hate her bother me the most:
"She's a bitch, she's so awful to the poor guys and especially to Lupin."
"She's a slut. She's constantly using her body to get what she wants."
"She betrays the gang so much it's annoying how she always does the same thing."
"It's the writers' fault for making her so unlikable."
While I partially understand one of these points, some of these other ones confuse me.
Fujiko is a character that looks out for herself. She goes into every heist with the thought of "what can I get out of this?" And despite this, she's been shown many times to care about all of the gang. Yes, even in part 2 where folks usually base their hatred of her off of. This is because she is a multifaceted character that isn't just driven by a single motivation.
"But Jigen and Goemon hate her!"
Do they? Because while they do get mad at her shenanigans, we also see them going out of their way to protect her and comfort her. Hell, Fujigoe is a common canon occurrence! Do you really think Goemon would be dating her if he didn't like her? Or that Jigen would be pushing her out of the way of bullets or shielding her with his body if he didn't care about her? Being mad or annoyed with someone's actions aren't the same as hatred. No one ever points out how they get mad at Lupin, and I'd argue that happens more often!
And on the point of her being a slut...where? I'm genuinely confused with this one. Fujiko does use her beauty and charms both to manipulate rich men into giving her treasure and to get out of dangerous situations. That's kind of the point of her being a femme fatale. But how often does she sleep with the people she manipulates? Most instances I can think of, she knocks them out when she gets that far. In fact, I would argue she doesn't seem to be that interested in having sex at all. Do they count her flirting as being slutty? If so, c'mon. And even if she did sleep with her targets, why would this be a bad thing? Are women characters not allowed to have sex? And again, how come Lupin doesn't get the third degree for HIS sluttiness. In fact, I see people joke about it and celebrate it if anything.
On the point of her betraying gang, yeah it is very one-note and does get old. You know what else is very one-note? Literally the actions of every other character in the show. I don't see people complaining about Zenigata chasing the gang getting old. Or about Lupin flirting with every woman he sees. Or about Jigen and Goemon using the same weapons in the same way to get out of every situation. Y'know, maybe this is just a repetitive show! And tbh, the writing lately has been shaken up. The modern series doesn't really have Fujiko betray the gang much anymore. She's either off doing her own thing or she's working with the gang as a member of the team. A lot of people complain about parts 4-6, but I think this is one of the elements it does right.
And finally, on the note of "poor Lupin", I think this one pisses me off the most lol. The fuck y'all mean "poor Lupin"?? I think fans either forget or don't realize that Lupin is a pretty smart guy. He knows Fujiko is most likely going to betray him if he does something for her, the bastard LIKES IT. This is foreplay for both of them. In case you haven't noticed yet, both of them are kind of freaks lol. There's a reason that most of the time, Jigen and Goemon are mad at HIM. Lupin is not a poor sweet baby that needs protection from Fujiko. He specifically loves the chase, the constant push and pull of their relationship. She's an exciting challenge for him, he's a stable home for her.
While I agree that Fujiko has not always been written great in the past, and I'm sure a lot of that was due to misogyny, I think fans need to reevaluate why they criticize her more harshly than the rest of the gang. There's a lot of things she's done that the fandom deems unforgivable, yet the boys have done some of the same stuff without so much as a slap on the wrist. Lupin constantly puts them all in unnecessary danger. Jigen has made some really unsavory comments about women. Goemon has betrayed the gang more than once. And I don't see nearly enough discussion about how Lupin really used to push himself on Fujiko, to the point of it being uncomfortable sometimes. Like damn I'd sell his ass out too😬.
I think it all boils down to Fujiko being a woman. And as a woman, she has to work harder to please the fans. If she's too nice, then she doesn't really have a personality or a reason for anyone to like her. If she's too selfish, she's a mean bitch and everyone should hate her. What if people saw her as a character first? Because no she's not a good person, but neither are the rest of the gang. Their morals are all on a sliding scale of what works best for the plot. But damn she's a great character. She stands out on her own and really makes you remember her. She's so much more than "the girl" character, and I'm so grateful for that. I hope more fans come to this conclusion too.

it’s like - i get that cass is a character who gets really flattened out both by fandom and by pretty much every book she’s been in since 2011, and that people who love pre-n52 cass want to push back against the “perfect angel with no flaws or character conflict” version of cass by pointing out that the original version of her character was so interesting and refreshing because she had her own problems and fought with other characters and didn’t always win. batgirl v1 cass was allowed to be angry and hurt and complicated, she was allowed to disagree with other people including batman, she was allowed to lose fights and act impulsively and be affected by her trauma and just be wrong sometimes. but at the same time i think there’s this weird pendulum swing where part of fandom has switched to defining cass’s character as like, just as flat and uninteresting, but in the opposite direction. cass isn’t just Angry Fighter Lady, she isn’t Perfect Martial Artist Who Can Never Lose Ever, she isn’t Character Whose Sole Purpose Is To Beat Up Characters I Don’t Like. cass as a character is defined more than anything else by her compassion and ability to empathize with people, even bad people (and in fact is defined by her inability to stop empathizing with “bad” people and repeatedly extending her hand to them, even to her own detriment). and like, that’s why cass “deserves” to be batman’s successor and arguably a better version of batman (especially compared to whatever the hell 2000s bruce had going on), not because she punches real good. cass can be a complicated, multifaceted character and a character who is primarily motivated by compassion. making her “perfect fighter who never loses and never tries to communicate any way but violence and just loves to hurt people she doesn’t like” is just as bad and uninteresting a characterization as “bland fun older sister” fandom cass and missing just as much of what makes cass good.

What’s your most hated fandom characterization for each of the main 7?
hoo boy am i glad you asked. although i’m gonna be real, my issue is less with fandom characterization, because you do you i don’t give a shit, and more with how people go batty if you personally are not a fan of fanon characterizations.
like, lemme be obvious and talk about my biggest example. i am a brown eyed lance truther. we know this. the amount of weirdo comments, weirdo DMs, and weirdo asks i get is atrocious. i post a lot of them bc they’re so stupid they’re funny but the amount of people per week that tell me to kill myself is lowkey wild. the amount of people that love to say some variation of “i liked your fic but you ruined it by making lances eyes brown! his eyes are blue!” and i’ve checked other brown eyed truther’s fics — either they delete their comments better than me, or they do not get the same thing. idk what the deal is lol.
i will concede to the point that i’m a contrarian and annoying about it, but a list of the following non-fanon headcanons/characterizations i hold that have been commented on in some derisive way:
- bitchy hunk (lol)
- non “cinnamon roll too pure and baby and good for this world” hunk*
- allura is a good character (🤡)**
- allura is a sweetheart
- allura is not a drill sergeant
- kuron was a good iteration of shiro
- red paladin lance/black paladin keith/blue paladin allura
- retired shiro
- pidge is not cruel
- pidge is not an infant and can handle things a regular 14-15 year old can handle
- small details are irrelevant (think lances family, exact prekerb details, etc)
- keith gyeong and lance sanchez
- fucking brown eyed lance. i’m saying it again
- tall keith
- non omega keith***
- readmores
- autistic lance
- adhd keith
- non asshole/cruel keith
- comphetting gay lance****
- shallura
- bi shiro, demi keith, essentially any sexuality headcanon that isn’t mainstream
- hunk who isn’t food obsessed
- that’s about it
*stop infantilising hunk
**the allura hate is ridiculous and largely rooted in anti-Blackness. it should not be a fight to say that she had a reason to feel betrayed by keith’s heritage, that she did not “get in the way” of klance, that her death was stupid and ridiculous, that she is often pushed over in favour of klance (not as in she’s less popular, but that her/her death are used as a plot device to further klance), and that she is as interesting, nuanced, and multifaceted as the rest of them.
***people, inevitably, feminize characters in fandoms (largely because many people in fandom are young women, i know i feminize characters simply bc i’m making them like me and i’m feminine lol), and my issue is that people (in the general sense, not everybody) love to feminize keith and then get really mad if anyone else is feminized. this is not about fem or trans woman keith btw. this is about people omega-ifying him and then losing their MINDS if i don’t share that headcanon.
****i literally only wrote this once and then never again because people lost their minds. but as much as i love bi lance, i think it’s interesting that usually, when we see “boy crazy” or “girl crazy” characters, especially if they have a lot of chemistry or homoerotic tension with a same-gender character, people are like oh ya that’s comphetting. that character is desperately trying to outrun the gay thoughts. but with lance, who was definitely girl crazy and cared more about having a girlfriend than actually dating and falling in love (think “mrs blue lion” — he didn’t give a fuck about who he was marrying, so long that it was a girl), calling him gay will have people saying you’re erasing bisexuality. as if he was not fucking straight in the show. so.
sorry this is so bitter and ranty lol. been in a mood

watched ep 3 & 4 of the pjo show. here are random thoughts:
ep 3
ive said before that ive put off watching the pjo show after episode 2 because the pacing seemed like a rush of getting from story checkpoint to story checkpoint and it never sat in one place long enough to actually grip me. episode 3 started off like that too, before the trio went on the quest. i only started to really like it when they were on the bus together and more of their dynamic was shining. theyre so funny bru.
i like all the acting but leah jeffries and aryan simhadri are CARRYING SO HARD. its like they took annabeth exactly how i imagined her out of my head and plopped her on screen and im so shocked at the accuracy??? her attitude and side eyes and sass is perf. and simhadri’s grover is insane because (dont come for me) i actually like the show version of him better than i did in the book 😭 perhaps reading him was rocky and i interpreted him wrong but seeing him on screen makes me SO attached to him. like in the books he always seemed like a sort of third wheel and annabeth and percy were outshining him so much but he’s actually slaying the show. i love him lots.
i like the dichotomy between percy and annabeth. their dynamic is already so juicy, especially with how they view both their godly and mortal parents. you can see some of their fatal flaws already shining through UGH i love them
i like medusa WAY more in the show. she seems so menacing yet classy and much more multifaceted. my only complaint was that she died way too quickly. there was so much build up in tension only for her to get one-tapped and it was honestly disappointing.
LIN MANUEL MIRANDA SPOTTED 🫵🫵
dialogue was great in this episode, btw.
ep 4
dream sequence went so hard -> “just breathe mummy ☺️ you’ll always be here 😁” *cuts to percy alone on a desolate plane where she is, in fact, not here*
sighhh sometimes i forget these kids are just twelve and theyre literal BABIES and percy just misses his mum 🙁
annabeth exposition time. a comment on all the exposition— there’s always something each episode but i think the show is doing a well enough job of not dumping everything in a way thats spoon-feedy to audience or in a way that makes viewers feel overwhelmed. theyre breaking information up nicely (imo).
echidna is slaying so hard. sorry but the villains are actually eating the whole dish up. mwah no balls.
its giving “im not a monster, im a mother” 🔥
fight scene annoyed me again but at least the mother of all monsters wasn’t ONE TAPPED. but i was annoyed because the monster was not thrashing him around as much as it had the opportunity to and it was giving plot armour im so sorry. might be cause of budget or target audience/rating though idk. the commentary of the show seems more mature however.
anyways yurr those are my observations. i like these last two eps more than the first two so maybe i should let this series cook.
remember to pirate this show if ur gonna watch it!!

Hey. I got a short drabble idea for your Wonka story, if you'll have it. Since you're trying to get into more dark stuff.
The idea is this: Wonka thinks he has Sapphire and Ruby trapped in his "wonderland", but by some freak accident, they find a way to escape and he. is. pissed.
✎ᝰ ── 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨! I'm thoroughly relieved to be finished with this and excited to be posting this. this is my first dark!fic. don't expect this to be like my previous stories. this is the first thing I've written that I had fun with. it's the first serious thing I've done since struggling with writer's block. this prompt fill is the one after after the intro fic (this is what I've been up to lately. join me!)

When she first met the soon-to-be-known magician she was indeed several years younger than him despite looking older than she actually was… She wonders if that was another reason he continuously manipulated her and kept her in his clutches…
To be exact, she first “met” him in passing on a tram car on the way to clock-in at her job. He’d been posing as a tram ticket collector and had offered her and a friend a piece of chocolate each to sample—something she would have declined had her friend not pointed him out and his reputation throughout the past several months not preceded him.
But even before he announced himself and began handing out samples throughout the tram car, Sapphire had thought none the wiser, his face blending in among the sea of others. That, along with already being distracted because she was on her way to work, then the candy’s influence to dance and sing on the crowded tram that quickly became overwhelming before the police even showed up, she wouldn’t have been able to pick out his face from a line-up even if she wanted to.
Which is why when she came across him once more sometime later, it made sense why she hadn’t recognized him: clothes really can make the difference about a person.
Now sometime later and at a laundromat on a rainy day, Sapphire has no reason to know that the tall man alone in a far corner was the previously unknown, enigmatic chocolatier that swept in and gradually took her city by storm. At the laundromat, he looks so ordinary and unnoticeable, staring off at a point unseen. She doesn’t give him any acknowledgement beyond a few glances to mind her distance.
It has been an angry and dark overcast for the past week, the air heavy with humidity and the promise of rain that never came.

I’ll always find if funny when tvdu stans, particularly Elena and Caroline stans, get so offended at the thought of Bonnie having meaningful connections with other characters outside of them. Like the near mention of Bonnie being desired by other characters such as the Mikaelsons gets them so angry. Especially when people say how Bonnie would have been a great love interest for Klaus, and how it makes more sense.
I think they just need to admit that they don’t see Bonnie for more than a character who’s life revolves around their faves and comes to their rescue every time, basically a mule. They don’t see her as an equal to the other two and anytime her fans show any ounce of appreciation or rewrite events that put her in a favorable position, they feel the need to always come in and shut down people. They self insert themselves into these characters and because Bonnie doesn’t fit the image they like, they come up with all types of ridiculous excuses as to why she would “never do that”. Bonnie is one of the most multifaceted characters in the main tvd cast, unfortunately her as a character was never properly explored due to racism and shitty writing, so to say she wouldn’t do something when she wasn’t even given a chance to explore those sides of her is redundant.

It’s really interesting how this album is so full of double meanings, especially compared to other albums in her discography. TTPD is so multifaceted. Tay has always loved a turn of phrase but I think we see it so much in this album where not only is she slipping interchangeably between her thoughts and emotions on the two relationships with every line so that no song is truly 100% about one individual or situation, but also playing with her words so that they are saying two different things simultaneously.
We see this in So Long, London where she says:
“You swore that you loved me, but where where the clues? I died on the altar waiting for the proof. You sacrificed us to the gods of your bluest days.”
In which the line “I died on the altar waiting for the proof.” means both the sacrificial alter and possibly the chapel altar.
Then towards the end of Cassandra she echoes :
“You can mark my words that I said it first, in a mourning warning, no one heard. No one heard. Not a single word- was heard…”
With that one line “Not a single word- was heard…” implying that no one heard a word she said, and also reiterating the silence aforementioned in the song on the part of the townspeople upon learning that she was correct all along.
TTPD as an album is a double edged sword, it’s a twisted dagger. Once Taylor has run us through with her weapon of choice (her words) the other meaning hits us and runs us through once more, not unlike I’m sure how she was feeling at the end of the two relationships that inspired the album. It’s really fucking brilliant how she mirrors that in so many ways with this album. I just find it so interesting.

Astarion x F! Dark Urge, Set in Act 1
18+ violence, death, dark urge shenanigans, pining, complicated feelings, heavy petting, blood drinking, fingering (f!), thigh riding, restraint, oral (f!), menstruating, Astarion being a freak, tenderness
After killing Alfira in her sleep, she can't help but seek him out...
-
"You know, I dont really even care that you killed her," he laughs, eyes unburdened.
The blood still in her hair, she stared at him. A deep and festering war inside her mind at his words.
The poor girl hours dead, she couldn't bear to hide her, to run from what she had done. So she left her there, stared at her beautiful corpse until morning. Until the others woke and discovered her sin.
The rage and disgust in their words, in their hearts were shockingly short lived. Forgiving her too easily. Of all of the transgressions, that scared her the most. They still trusted her, still relied on her.
"Well," She shoved all of her thoughts further down her throat. "I feel terrible about it."
He was the only one she hadn't spoken to about her urges. Had broached the subject with everyone else in camp, if only to ready them. There's something inside me, something that demands blood. They hadn't understood naturally, the gravity of the situation lost on them. But at least they were warned.
Having precious little chance to talk, with him being rather closed off, she hadn't had a chance to alert him.
I am a weapon, dont get closer than you need to.
But his words now, the lack of judgment, the lack of care in his eyes. It... comforted her, despite herself.
She should be punished, in words and coldness, abandonedment. Hells even death, and yet...
Why aren't you afraid of me?
The merriment and spirits floated, the tiefling refugees chattering happily. Not allowing herself any inebriation, she smiled at Halsin. Encouraged him to mingle, to have fun. Leaning in, her hand on his arm to be heard over the revelry.
Feeling the prickle of eyes on her neck, she looked up.
Crimson eyes beckoning to her.
Feeling her stomach flip she turned back to Halsin, letting an easy smile on her face as he reassured her.
No, not this. Not him.
Traveling together since that awful night, she had found herself... fascinated by him.
She had managed to stifle her feelings, keeping her yearning close to her chest. But Gods was it there.
Keeping him in her party he was unavoidable. She had considered leaving him at camp if just to see him less, but he was too good at what he does.
The way his nimble hands would twist when she needed assistance with a locked chest. Drawling voice at her back as they walked. His arrows coming down on high to strike through the chest of an enemy prey right in front of her.
She had touched herself to that memory in her tent only nights ago.
Steeling herself, she approached. Hells, what did he want?
"You know, I never saw myself a hero." He started, wine bottle sloshing in his hand. She eyed it, realizing that he can drink. Assumed that he could only drink blood. Felt another shiver at the thought. She would like to drink his blood for a change.
"But now that I'm here, I hate it. This is awful."
She laughed, surprised. Responding before she could stop herself, "Well you got to kill lots of goblins, that was fun." Felt hot shame rise up her collar at her indiscretion.
He smiled, eyes softening. "That was fun, wasnt it."
The roaring in her chest got much louder.
Allowing herself some banter, they chatted. Flirted, even. Throwing lines back and forth, until she had somehow agreed to meet him later. Alone.
She kept her face light and neutral as they parted ways, but the moment her back was turned from him. Panic. Dear Gods, panic.
Oh this was a problem, a multifaceted problem.
She should not be alone with anyone, especially someone so beautiful. He would make such a pretty corpse.
Pacing in her tent she was a mess. She should stay here, dont go. Dont go to him. For the love of all that is good, do not go.
A vision of his eyes when he fed on her, his mouth when he pouts. The way his breeches hugged his hips, the veins in his forearms.
Her tent flapped shut behind her, feet moving swiftly.
"There you are," He purred, stepping from the treeline. Chest bare, hair catching the moonlight.
No words possible, she pulled her tunic off. Hot with need. Taking her chest bindings off in the same motion.
Saw his eyes widen in surprise. "My, eager are we?" He crooned, stepping closer.
"Shut up," She traveled the distance between them. Fingers in his hair, on his hip. Pulling his mouth down to hers. Lips crashing.
She had to get it out or she would erupt.
He groaned into her, lifting her up to push against a nearby tree. Oh he shouldn't be manhandling her like this.
Wrapping her hips around his waist she kissed him hungrily, greedily. The last meal of a woman on the gallows. The one piece of relief she would allow herself.
Hips already grinding into him, seeking. An animal call. Heat. Madness.
Flipping her onto the ground he began pulling her leathers off. Lifting her hips to help him, the bite of small stones against her shoulders bringing her small clarity. Her pelvis ached, her head swimming.
He looked into her eyes, heavy with lust but something else... a twinge, a hint. Fear, she realized.
Her heart sank, he could feel it. The madness inside her. Slowing, she trailed her hand tender to his cheek.
Looking at her again, his eyes widened. She bared her neck to him.
Leaning down on his forearms, he sank into her. The cold chill welcome against her feverish skin. Trailing a tentative hand into his hair. Her long nails scratching lightly.
A quiet moan into her wound. Felt him shiver against her. Encouragement.
Hand still in his hair she let her other hand slip onto his neck, touching lightly. Trailing up to his ear.
Immediate, he bit down hard on her. Hips grinding against her thigh.
The heat rising again she ran her thumb along the long point, in awe. He groaned into her, wrapping his arms around her waist he hitched her up to him. Chest to chest, straddling. Him still pulling from her neck.
"Oh Gods," She moaned quietly. The hazy miasma of lust overwhelming her again. Hips ablaze, grinding into his cold thigh. The leather of his breeches soaking.
His hand gripped her ass, pulling her harder into his leg. Heard a low growl from his chest.
Panting, she rode against him. His sharp mouth still pinning her in place against him. The slick pressure in her pelvis rising. Hands reaching for his chest, his back, something, anything to ground herself.
His pale ones, quick as lightning, found her wrists. Pulling them against her lower back, snaring them down in one hand. Her eyes hitched back. Yes, restrain me.
Still riding into him, she felt herself getting lightheaded. Though it wasn't unwelcome, Gods, anything to empty her head, knew she was losing too much blood.
"Astarion, stop," She breathed. He groaned into her flesh, still pulling.
Wrapping her thighs strong around his leg, she squeezed as hard as she could. Trying to pull him from his trance.
With the last of her strength she bit him, hard, on the shoulder. Muffled her own moan when she realized she had drawn blood. Her own blood spilling back into her mouth. Oh no, oh fuck.
He pulled off of her, gasping. The pain waking him. Looked, shocked and ashamed, into her eyes. "I'm sorry, Caron."
Hearing her name, her chosen name, her eyes watered. No, she didn't want to hurt him. She could stop.
"I'm okay," She reassured tiredly, the ever present headache receding slightly at the bloodshed. "Are you okay?" She added quietly.
He blinked at her, eyes layered in many emotions. None she could pick out with certainty.
"Darling, I'm splendid." He drawled, lying, she could tell. "Now, if you dont mind I'd like to finish ravaging you."
Confusion spiked through her. Certain that they were done, the spell thoroughly broken.
"Wait," She whispered, as his hands slid to her core. He paused, eyes searching hers.
"You dont have to, I'm okay to stop." She looked into his eyes, hoping her sincerity reached him.
Saw him swallow, eyes wavering for a moment, then coming back.
"Lay back, sweet thing." He hushed, urging her gently onto her back again. Pushing her thighs apart to accommodate him. Sliding down between them.
She sighed as she felt his breath against her thigh, letting her head fall back. Her body responding once again. Realized that the nausea backed away when he touched her. The pain, though still present, distant.
Felt a tear of relief slide down her face, glad he was too far down her body to see it.
Heard a small gasp and looked up, panicked. "Oh," He breathed, fingers swiping up her, holding them to the light. Blood.
She had started her cycle it seemed. Groaning, getting up onto elbows, about to start cleaning up. His eyes flashed.
"Dont you dare," Felt a thrill in her chest, his fingers entering his mouth. Tongue splaying, twisting along his hand. Lost in it.
She clenched, pulsing, against nothing. Her breath hot little gasps.
"This is a gift." He marveled, leaning back down. Moaned at the fresh blood her pulsing had pushed out.
Mouth crushing into her without warning. His tongue working in frenzy. Taking as much of her in as he could.
She moaned loud, arched against him. Hips already squirming.
He hooked his arms around her thighs to keep her from retreating. Slurping, suckling. Tongue crushed velvet, hot, seeking.
When he clamped down around her clit, tongue pulsing, she thought she was dying. Stars blooming behind her eyes. Body going rigid.
One hand coming down on the skin below her navel, flat, a gentle hold.
"Fingers," She whimpered out, his mouth driving her to the brink. But still she needed more.
"What was that, darling?" He mused, lifted to look at her. Gore-dripped mouth smiling.
Oh Gods, the heat. The bloodlust.
"Put your fingers in me. Now." Her voice unrecognizable to her. Low, demanding.
His eyes flashed again, pupils widening. Jaw tightening. Looking down at her like prey.
Oh only if he knew.
His two fingers slid inside her, eyes still trained on hers. Watching her head lean back, hips rising. Watched her shiver as he hooked his fingers. Smiling like a fox that caught a rabbit.
Satisfied, he leaned his mouth back down to his work. Fingers still pulling, slowly.
When the dual sensations hit her, his hungry mouth, his clever fingers, she writhed and whimpered. Hands in his hair, trying her hardest not to pull.
Her body was so tender, every touch tenfold, her cycle thoroughly started. Pinching her sensitive nipple. Clenched down hard on his fingers, pushing out more blood slick. Felt his growl reverberate against her. Tongue lapping around his fingers.
Oh she was close, her limbs feverish. The viper coiled, about to strike.
Her mind flooded. A dagger, plunging. An arterial wave of blood. Them, twisted into eachother, gore smeared. Straddled over their prey. His fingers pushing the viscera inside her.
She shrieked against him. Her end hitting her like an impaling spear. Hands gripping his hair. Arching her back so hard she heard a crack. Eyes screwed shut tight. Vicous waves of annihilating pleasure.
He eagerly lapped up all of the creamy blood slick that poured out of her, rubbing her clit, encouraging more.
She bucked against his hand, clenching again and again. His mouth catching it all.
She fell back, collapsing into the earth. All thoughts, all threatening, gone from her mind.
The night air heavy with their pheromones, the blood. Both smells intoxicating her. A spike of shame.
Well, almost all thoughts.
"Why aren't you afraid of me?"
It had slipped out, a near whisper, before she could stop herself.
He had laid down next to her, looked over at her now. Eyebrows threaded together, confused. Shit.
Stared at her for a moment then he laughed, face relaxing. "Oh please, you killed someone. Darling, I think you forget you're in the presence of a monster." Leaned down to draw little circles on her sternum. "You're not the only one who craves blood around here."
"You're not a monster."
He looked up at her, his eyes round. Soft. Her heart fluttered. Then they settled back into their guard.
"Common minds would disagree." Smiled at her, head tilting. "But you're not common, are you?"
Now she laughed, snorting. Everything about this so funny suddenly. Two killers seeking eachother in the grass.
He laughed with her, her light seeming to overcome him.
"Gods we should kill someone together."
She laughed even harder, falling into him.

Hi! May I request a character profile for Shuri Udaku from Black Panther? If that is alright with you.
Tumblr media
𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐞: 𝑆ℎ𝑢𝑟𝑖 𝑈𝑑𝑎𝑘𝑢 ✨
𝐌𝐁𝐓𝐈
𝑬𝑵𝑻𝑷 | 𝑇𝘩𝑒 𝑇𝑟𝑎𝑖𝑙𝑏𝑙𝑎𝑧𝑒𝑟
Shuri is Wakanda's youthful tech genius. The one people look to for new technology, for updates, for ... protection. She's innovative, creative and headstrong. Also incredibly stubborn and passionate; Shuri really is a goddamn trailblazer.
𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐀𝐋 𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓
𝑳𝒂𝒘𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝑵𝒆𝒖𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒍
Yes, I know a lot of you weren't exactly expecting that. Shuri often breaks the rules, she is chaotic, which my first thought was - Chaotic Good. But she loves Wakanda, she loves her family and she has done everything to keep those traditions alive.
While Shuri respects these traditions and values, she is also shown to be open to change and adaptation.
𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐎𝐓 𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐃
𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒏
Upright: Manifestation, resourcefulness, power, inspired action Reversed: Manipulation, poor planning, untapped talents
The Magician card represents Shuri's resourcefulness, creativity, adaptability, and her ability to wield her knowledge and skills to bring about positive change.
The Magician card represents manifesting one's intentions, creativity, resourcefulness, and the ability to harness the powers of the universe to bring about change.
Shuri embodies these qualities through her exceptional intellect, technological prowess, and innovative mindset. She is a masterful inventor and scientist, constantly creating and utilizing advanced technology to serve her nation and protect her people. The Magician card also signifies adaptability and versatility, which are evident in Shuri's ability to quickly adapt to new situations and come up with creative solutions.
𝐒𝐔𝐍
𝑨𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒖𝒔
Aquarius is often associated with innovation, intellect, and a forward-thinking mindset. Shuri's technological expertise, inventiveness, and desire to push the boundaries align with some of the traits commonly associated with Aquarius.
𝐌𝐎𝐎𝐍
𝑮𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒊
Gemini is known for curiosity, adaptability, and versatility. Shuri's ability to quickly adapt to new situations, her multifaceted interests and talents, as well as her quick-witted and communicative nature, definitely remind me of Gemini - especially in her moon aspect.
𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆/𝐀𝐒𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐀𝐍𝐓
𝑨𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔
Aries individuals are often characterized as confident, independent, and driven. Shuri has so much goddamn drive; it's ambition mixed with passion and that's Aries. Shuri's assertiveness, leadership qualities, and her willingness to take charge made this a pretty easy choice.
𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐘
𝑮𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒊
Shuri is like a lightning bolt; offering opinions, ideas and insights in the blink of an eye. With her agile mind, and ability to process information so quickly, all align with the qualities associated with this aspect. (Sidenote: Shuri would actually make a great Doctor Who!)
𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐔𝐒
Okay so this was really difficult because it's totally upto interpretation. I couldn't choose between Gemini, Aquarius or Aries for her Venus aspect. But ultimately, I've gone with Gemini. I know you might be thinking, 'jesus she's chosen gemini for so much,' but Shuri is like ... the embodiment of Gemini.
𝑮𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒊
With the ever so fleeting moments of romance she had with Namor - Shuri brightens up when they're on the same communication level. I think there would be something about engaging conversations and a partner who can keep up with her quick-wittedness and diverse range of interests. Shuri would be attracted to individuals who can engage her intellectually and stimulate her curiosity.
𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐒
𝑺𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒖𝒔
Sagittarius is associated with adventurousness, enthusiasm, and a desire for freedom. With a Sag Mars, it shows that Shuri possesses a thirst for knowledge and a drive to explore the world around her. Her actions are guided by a sense of purpose and a desire to seek truth and wisdom. Shuri is an energetic and optimistic individual, always seeking new experiences and pushing her boundaries.

Hey guys, been a hot sec, but here is another short work set in my humans are weird universe. its a bit longer because I forgot I was writing a short work and started world building, but it still should be fun to read. This one is definitely cannon.
Humans are Weird, Throwing - Part 1/2
Boruk is the greatest cultural melting pot federated under the Galactic Assembly. When the first Coress had broken-atmosphere two millennia prior, they had found, to their disappointment, no image life.  From light years out they had scanned the atmosphere and found the rich O2 of Carbon-based life, as well as synthetic aerosolized compounds which testified to the existence of Sapient technology.
When they arrived, however, they only found plants, rodents,  and some extremely unique geo-chemistry off-gassing fairly unusual sulfur-fluorine-carbon compounds. However, instead of moving on, they chose to make the best of it, and decided to colonize the planet.
    The rest is history…
One thousand, eight hundred and sixty-four years later the Coress have accomplished the impossible feat of building a bustling trade hub, all the while retaining all  of the original biosphere. Today its cities sit, like multifaceted diamonds amidst an emerald canopy, each one packed with races from the furthest reaches of the Galactic assembly. The whole planet is an anthropologist’s dream. The near-300 dominant cultures interact in novel was seen nowhere else in the universe.
The Volatus drifted inches from the ground. Normally he would “walk”, but these humans had [idiom equates to “inhumanly”] long legs. His friend had wanted to show his family the planetary Capital, especially the iconic Central Mall. The biologist walked slightly ahead, arm hanging, fingers wrapped gently around his daughters tiny hand. Each pace of his heavy treat left a dull thump, and kicked up a small cloud of dust from the gravel.
The volatus loved humans. They were fascinating, even before one gets of the culture shock, but once he got over the shock he found that they could be fast friends, if they chose. As this one had. The little human tugged her fathers arm.
  “M’ tired”
The volatus watched as his friend glanced down at his daughter, felt the brief hum of neurons firing, perhaps estimating the length of the day, and then the human bent down, and hoisted the girl to his shoulders. She immediately used her vantage point to scan her surroundings. Typical human.
Her eyes suddenly locked on  the volatus, and he froze, conflicted, unsure if this little human was cute, or terrifying, She pointed at him.
    “Uncle”
The biologist stopped, turned, and grinned sheepishly.
    “Too fast?”
The volatus nodded, an imitation of human body language.
    “Too fast.”
The human motioned him to the center of  the group, and he obligingly drifted to the front, now leading the way, which was alright. The human couple and their child had proven their loyalty. Well, the two adults had. The child had tried to bite him, which, given their classification as a venomous species, was a problem.     A solved problem. The biologist had promptly contacted a friend, and developed a solution of bacteriophages to counter his family’s microbiome, all package neatly into an auto-injector pen, of course.
Now, if he were ever bitten by one of the human children from this family he would simply inject the engineered virus, and the two would neutralise.
    Good times.
The Volatus came back to the present. The massive original entrance rose in front of them, the first entrance, curving, organic.
The group passed into the interior.

Thoughts about Tsukuyo
Tumblr media
She was introduced late as part of the main cast, but I think it was a good decision on Sorachi's end. This is because when he created her, he was already a more experienced writer, he’d been writing his characters for a while and knew what his story needed.
I really like the dualities of Tsukuyo’s character. Her exterior is hard and cold, but inside her lies a very sensitive and protective person. She was a rebel, she fought against an oppressive system from the shadows. This caused enormous loneliness, keeping an emotional distance from the rest, especially from Hinowa.
Jiraia's teachings had a deep impact on her. It went against her kind nature, but she was led to believe that caring for others, loving others made her weak. These characteristics, regarded “feminine” by her master, made her weak.
This is why I consider her arc to be so important and one that resonates with me personally. These ideas, although they’ve been changing, still linger in our society today. And the society of Gintama's world remains particularly sexist.
This is also explored with Kyuubei. But while Kyuubei completely rejects femininity and embraces masculinity, Tsukuyo rejects the idea of femininity (what she was taught it meant at least), but she still feels like a woman. They’re different paths facing the same situation.
Tumblr media
It’s over time that Tsukuyo begins to open up to others, learns to lean on others and overcome her traumas, especially in relation to her teacher. Being a caring person and loving is not something feminine or weak, on the contrary, it makes you someone strong. Sorachi completes her arc with these aspects in mind.
Although I consider Tsukuyo to be one of the best developed characters in the series, I was left wanting to see her interact with more characters. Don't get me wrong, her interactions with her family in Yoshiwara, the Yorozuya and the Gintaladies are extremely important, but I wish we’d seen more.
For example, I would’ve loved to see her in a trio with Sacchan and Zenzou (wait not that kind of trio-) as ninjas, more interactions with the Shinsengumi (considering the Hyakka is also a type of police). Speaking of the Hyakka, it would’ve been great to have a recurring character who was the vice-captain of that organization.
There's also the fact that almost all the characters Tsukuyo interacts with regularly are women, with the exception of Seita, Shinpachi, and Gintoki. A boy, a teenager, and a man (whose relationship hasn't caused any controversy amirite), but it would’ve been interesting if she’d more male friends.
That being said, I think Tsukuyo's character development was pretty good. Her character is realistic, multifaceted. More importantly, I believe that she reached her potential, both personally and professionally, with her being not only the leader of her organization, but also the leader of her city.

a thing i'm fascinated by too about the early dynamics in criminal minds is that like
elle greenaway is established immediately as a woman who, understandably, hates and distrusts men. she's very aware of misogyny in diff environments but most especially in the field of law enforcement
because like many cops she's driven by ego and a desire to repair societal faults with retaliative violence, she lashes out frequently at men and especially at the idea of males and masculinity - she struggles to reconcile the theories she's aware of intersectional oppressive effects on personality and emotional development with her, again, entirely understandable hatred and fear of men
she's actually quite similar in some ways to catherine cawood in happy valley - she has similar blinders on
but smth that i think is really interesting in her is that like... she's straight. she desires and is attracted to men, and the thing is, she actually demands quite a high level of masculinity in the men she desires - like derek morgan
derek morgan is a CSA survivor who was raised in an all-female household, and all these traits in combination with being a Black man meant that he was not just adultified sexually early on in life, but was also treated with an expectation of hypermasculinity from his childhood and early teens, let alone as a young man
like elle, he seeks out law enforcement because of his ego and his desire to dominate others - where elle's focus is specifically w an awareness of institutional misogyny, derek's focus is the more typical hero fantasy and a desire to protect the innocent and vulnerable in general
but also to him is about the performance of and presentation of a hypermasculine figure. he's an alpha male, he's muscular, he's tough, he's strong - he doesn't feel comfortable showing too much vulnerability or emotion, he needs to push a lot of that aside with jokes and blasé comments
he hates to be challenged on his expertise, bc to him like. a lot of the work he does is a dick-measuring contest, especially with other men, and he plays on some chivalric bullshit when he's working alongside women, which makes him feel more secure in his masculinity
and i just find it so interesting that like. it's established that elle has a lot of fear of men and not of derek, bc although he's chauvinistic and obsessed w his masculinity and with "picking up" women, it's not with a mind to sexual violence
but elle's dynamic when derek is making misogynistic comments to her - "show some leg" - is mostly indignant and a tiny bit playful, balancing her frustration at being objectified and dehumanised w her attraction to him
when she's observing him w others, like esp thinking of how derek bullies reid early on w stuff like hanging a rape whistle around his neck, you can see she's way more uncomfortable, and i just like
haaaaa. i just love how this show presents such complex, flawed, layered, and multifaceted characters that carry a lot of contradictions within them, that you can see them struggling with it and struggling with each other and their choice to work in a position that ultimately like. does evil lol
