#and the Knight is in the wrong but its kind of sad to see him being reduced down to his worst action

I think the Knight of Dawn being "a coward who is unable to stand up for what is right and does as he's ordered to" and "someone who cares deeply about his family and did everything he could so that Silver could live a happy and normal life in the future" are two statements that can coexist.

Does anyone else think that Arthur would be at least sensitive to magic, if not actually have a tiny bit of magic himself?
I mean he was born of magic, it would make sense that something would have made its way into his DNA.
But it’s clear that he doesn’t know it on a conscious level, that he’s completely unaware (or perhaps wilfully ignorant).
I mean, we’re always being told how he’s Camelot’s greatest warrior, how he’s a genius at tactical planning and managing his knights… what if that’s the magic part?
Maybe he had “dreams” that showed him battle plans? Maybe he just knew the right things to do, and who to put where, and how things should be done?
Maybe he saw things no-one else could, or at least saw things in a different way. Maybe he was a little bit omnipresent, or could do some mild divination without realising it, or just had a feeling about certain future events that was always right.
Maybe he was connected to those around him, to people he loves, and to his knights in a different way. Maybe he could always sense them, or always knew where they were, or could somehow see them even though they were an impossible distance away. I mean, he always sensed when something was wrong with Merlin. Always. Even if he didn’t fully comprehend what kind of “something wrong” it was.
What if that’s why he never got suspicious of Merlin, no matter how many times it was obvious there was something a bit different about Merlin or something not quite explainable about a situation? Because the magic in him recognised the magic in Merlin and didn’t find it at all threatening - in fact, it found a kindred spirit.
Maybe that’s why Arthur got so strange when he eventually found out about Merlin’s magic - some subconscious part of him always knew and was sad that it could have had a companion, a sidekick, all this time? (That and the frustration that “we could have done it together”).
And, you know, it’s not really totally human and non-magic to be “The Once and Future King Who Will Rise From the Dead”, is it???
But also, what if some part of Merlin / Merlin's magic knew. What if that's part of why Merlin is so attracted, so attached, so connected to Arthur, even just at a subconscious level?
Imagine if all this had been played out in the series. Imagine if we’d found out Arthur has magic.
Well. I’m rewatching the series right now, and I can’t un-see it, so it’s canon in my head now.

This line is making me sad akjdkakdks its making me imagine that once Malleus sees that his overblot causes pain rather than making the people of his life happy... he'll realize that "he is no good as a king at all since he harmed his people"😭😭
"Seeing you all worry helped me calm down..." ARGHH IT MAKES ME THINK OF THE SCENE WHERE HE SAW HOW ANGUISHED SILVER WAS ABOUT LILIA'S DEPARTURE... Like... I CANT??😭😭 HE'S SO CARING ABOUT THE HAPPINESS OF OTHERS BECAUSE THATS AN EMOTION HE RARELY FELT SO HE VIEWS IT AS THE MOST PRECIOUS FEELING ??
but sadness and partings and goodbyes..."harms happiness", thats why he just created a world where it never exists... He's not just doing it for his own desires KSJAKDJWKD plus if "all dreams come true" none of the previous overblots wouldve occured and they'll live a peaceful life... but living that way would stagnate their growth... they'll be living the same life repeatedly without any improvements towards themselves
that's why even if Malleus' overblot stems from a good intention, his vision is not applicable to a human life as we all require growing up, overcoming hardships, admitting our mistakes and developing out from that... Those painful feelings are what makes a human life more meaningful and allows a person to give themselves a genuine good life. 🥲🥲🥲
But Malleus who's still in the state of "learning to be human", he cannot naturally perceive that kind of moral.
I just hope that after Book 7 there's no narrative implication that Malleus' coping was flat out purely wrong lol Bcs as Yuu said, everyone wishes they won't lose anyone important to them either...
Going back to the fact that he feels responsible for the happiness of others... I think Malleus lives his life very literally...
I think it was Lilia who said this...(?) That Malleus' power (or the Draconia's power in general) gives happiness to the people of Briar Valley (as their power can protect the dark faes) 🥲✨
Maybe this is the reason why he's "so desperate" in keeping the happiness of others and also giving them blessings that'll surely make them happy...
Tumblr media
Okay separate theory... Maybe I'm just overthinking lol But the occurence of "falling" in TWST is so fascinating to me since thats a heavy reference to "Alice Falling In Wonderland" yk
Book 6 we already had Idia falling to the Underworld because he wants to follow Ortho, There's this implication that Overblots "falling to a deep sleep/darkness" thats why all overblotees "wakes up after their own overblot... I wonder if Overblot Malleus will take a fall as well??? His overblot title is "The King of Abyss" but I doubt that the "timeless Sage Island" is the abyss yk? What if we actually learn about the origin of Overblots through Malleus Overblot?
Because in the trailer we can see him snapping out in awareness(waking up) before he's trapped in thorns in what seems to be an Abyss--- So maybe, we won't defeat Malleus Overblot bcs he'll wake up from it (presumeably once he realizes that his overblot caused Lilia and the others pain???) but him breaking his overblot wont be possible bcs the "darkness" will engulf him of smth
I'm thinking of this because the existence of Overblot is so weird. General Lilia should've recognized the blot when it was taking Silver because of his despair since before Leona's overblot, he knew the vibes of whats occuring yk and same thing with Malleus with how he knew that he's planning to overblot, plus he knows the existence of STYX whos focused on overblot too
But strangely, the mages of the past (Meleanor and Knight of Dawn even Lilia and Baul) dont seem to possess any magic limitations concerning blot accumulation, additionally they dont even have magestones (that they use to gauge their blot consumption like NRC pens). Which makes me think that "blot or overblot" was not a "trait" that existed naturally in mages???
Since TWST world's history is implied to be changed... I wonder if blot existence was something that "a being" made up/cursed upon all mages lol
Idk where Im going with this tbhhhh ajsjaj but I just think its suspicious that only human magicians is heavily concerned with blot accumulation... whereas Malleus and Lilia never worries about using magic too much...
So wild guess, maybe Maleficia (since shes the only powerful person here lol) cursed "magic in general" so humans will never be on par with fae's magical abilities no matter how hard they develop it
Ig its to never repeat the "occurence of another Knight of Dawn" who's magic is even stronger than faes since he has no limitation so she created blot to curse humans to limit their magic else they'll fall into "darkness" idk

hey uh actually its time for me to vomit some thoughts on ghostbat
i really do love all the content out here for them in the vein of like divorced-core bitchy snarking and whatnot its funny its classic fandom behavior so its got that nostalgia factor its real fun to see but (non derogatory) but! i feel like thats such a watered down way of observing them. a reflection of a reflection of a reflection if u know what i mean
like obviously this isnt a new thing fandom is doing dynamics get dissolved into the simplest, most consumable caricatures of themselves possible all the time. its like a rite of passage at this point. but there are truly so many fascinating directions you could take ghostbat in particular and seeing it dissolved into just. gesturing at the above paragraph. that. is kind of sad.
i think (and this is just my observations from reading batman the knight and vol 3 of batman inc) one of the keys to their dynamic that really gets me is how modern-era (for lack of a better term) ghostmaker is consistently chasing bruce's shadow. i would say most of his actions can be described as being motivated by a desire to understand and be understood by batman.
like. hes living in batman's shadow not because batman's reputation precedes him or because batman is more capable than he is but because there is something fundamental in batman that ghostmaker believes he lacks. it's a key part of the infamous pseudo-break-up-in-the-rain in issue 105 of batman (2016) when bruce leaves khoa for gotham: bruce says, “you’re sick. there’s a part of you that’s broken and you’re angry that it’s not broken in me.” and khoa is reasonably incensed by this and takes a swing at him. they devolve into a fight that ends with the agreement we saw dick reference obliquely in issue 104.
of course, this assertion is categorically false—bruce himself points it out later in the 2021 batman annual. ghostmaker discusses his latest take-down of a major portion of his rogues gallery and how his successful defeat of all of them makes him a fundamentally better crime-fighter/vigilante than batman since he’s doing it without any of the personal vendettas and attachments bruce has.
but the key is that in his recounting of his battle he inadvertently reveals that he does in fact have a connection with each of them: madame midas and kid kawaii in particular. madame midas took down his fathers business when khoa was young and we see in his memory that this is something that deeply upset him and something he never forgot. in his actual take-down of her he brings it back up when he delivers the killing blow (batman annual 2021). with kid kawaii hes visibly upset by her physical appearance being that of a child and regularly does his best in their fights to take her down in a way that can hopefully allow whatever child-like portions of her remain to be saved (batman 108). i believe one of his battles with her actually contributed to her creators having to put an emotional inhibitor in her since some of what he'd said last time they fought got through to her (batman 107/108).
and bruce points this out!! he's somewhat subtle about it, of course, but he points out that no actually, khoa isn't free from this fundamentally very human part of him that wants to help people because it's good and that wants justice for wrongs slighted against him. still in the batman annual issue, he says, “you spent years focused on a single crime lord. that dedication isn’t about glory or efficacy. there’s a reason why this victory matters to you. a reason why you care.” and khoa (after a flashback) gives an embarrassingly flimsy defense in response to this but it’s still very, very clear that he does, in fact, suffer from the same bleeding-heart syndrome bruce does—if perhaps not as intensely.
obviously i have my gripes and whatnot with khoa being tagged as a psychopath since it seems kind of flimsy at best but i don't know enough about aspd-spectrum disorders to really pin it as definitively good or bad but still!! still!! he does have the personal stake in vigilantism that he condemns bruce for having (not even touching on the whole phantom one/clownhunter arc). at the end of the day ghostmaker believes hes missing this unnameable quality of empathy/desire for justice and he thinks that's what separates him from bruce and what makes them incompatible as partners (vigilante partners but also like. take that as you will): it is not.
the reason they cannot work together is because khoa believes he is missing this part of himself and as long as he continues to believe he's incapable of these things he's never going to measure up to his ideal of batman in any of the ways that matter.
on the batman end of things i feel like bruce is most characterized (at least in the batman the knight era of their relationship) by his desire to see khoa “fixed,” for lack of a better word. he initially takes khoa at face value for things, so when khoa gives his whole "i’m a vigilante for the art, the drama" speech he believes him.
it's actually a very sweet kind of naivete—like, of course, why wouldn't khoa know why he's doing this? bruce is very clear in his convictions regarding his motives for vigilantism and he and khoa are at the very least intellectually matched, so why wouldn't khoa be honest? why wouldnt he know the reason why he fights? if minhkhoa khan, the ghostmaker, says he fights crime because he believes in the aestheticism of a job well done, why wouldn’t bruce believe him?
so it becomes a point of contention between them for a very long time because bruce believes this kind of selfish method/motive and the incompatibility between them because of it will eclipse any relationship they have and, looking at the notorious issue 105 rain fight, it technically has. in their first mini-divorce arc in issue 6 of batman the knight in which they have a fistfight in the snow and khoa leaves bruce after beating the shit out of him he spends much of the fight talking, again, about the artistry of crime-fighting and how he enjoys the challenge of it more than the justice. when he wins the fight, he stands over bruce with a gun and contemplates shooting him (contemplates being used generously here: he stands over bruce visibly anguished before dropping the gun) and his excuse for not finishing bruce off is just that it would be, “too easy" (batman the knight issue 6). again: bruce has no reason to question this—even in a brutal physical altercation khoa continues touting his vaguely hedonistic motives behind joining bruce’s crusade. there is no reason why bruce shouldn’t believe him.
its only when he comes back in issue 8 and leaves with bruce towards the league of assassins that we see bruce kind of begin questioning how true khoa’s cited motivations are. obviously he's still pretty deeply embroiled in his Woe: I the Bat am Alone theatre kid bullshit—“this can’t last. and i think we both know it.”—so he spends most of their time together more observing the idea of khoa he has in mind and convincing himself that anything he sees outside of his established framework isn’t real, but we see when they escape ra's and blow up a major league of assassins headquarters that the illusion is starting to slip (batman the knight issue 9).
in their one-v-one combat for the position of demon’s heir (demon’s heart in bruce’s case) bruce’s monologue switches out of his doom-and-gloom khoa and i are incompatible talk into more of the space we see him in around the issue 105 break-up: during their fight bruce says, “there’s nothing to you! there’s nothing there! you know what’s in me?! everything!” which is a less accusatory version of the 105 quote but still in the same vein (batman the knight issue 10). so we see bruce has moved past taking khoa at face value regarding his joy in “the artistry of crime-fighting” but he still hasn’t quite shifted further into recognizing khoa’s other/true motives.
the rain break-up on bruce’s end, then, shows a further evolution of his interpretation of khoa’s behavior: he believes khoa’s desire to continue working with him is founded from a desire to keep bruce on his level—an action rooted in jealousy over something he will never be able to obtain. khoa believes this as well since, as stated before, he hits bruce in the face immediately after it’s pointed out. but even then he is still taking what khoa says at face value: he still believes khoa is only motivated by his thirst for a challenge and that khoa wants bruce by his side more so he isn’t alone in his empty hedonism than for actual wanting of bruce himself. this informs his reaction in issue 104 after he and robin chase a criminal to singapore: after his undisclosed argument with khoa he is visibly upset over the state of their relationship but believes it irreparable due to the differences in their morals.
i think from there though, bruce only begins picking out the gaps in the mess that is khoa (that we see anyway) when khoa’s telling him about his grand exploits after they meet up again. while their earlier conversations (ie; batman asking ghostmaker to stay in late issue 105) definitely reveal bruce’s newer perspective on khoa, it’s really only the batman annual 2021 conversation where we see bruce make the jump to further filling in what khoa is (very loudly) not saying. another tumblr post also mentioned the scene being the first recorded mention of bruce saying khoa’s name after the rain fight—which considering the last time we saw him say it was The Fucking Rain Break Up Again, sort of thematically implies he’s reached another level of understanding with khoa.
so i’d say on batman’s end he very badly wants to understand khoa, but he’s also only just starting to realize that he doesn’t have enough of the pieces.
this got away from me tbh but the point being: ghostbat has more nuance than a lot of incorrect-quote-y type content has room for.

Talisman
Summary: King Viserys I dies, sending the royal family and your own life into disarray. When Aemond is sent on his way to Storm's End and your betrothal is called off, the Queen promises to do right by you as soon as she is able. That night, your fears, memories, and insecurities get the better of you.
Pairing: Aemond Targaryen x UnspecifiedHouse!F!Reader
Warning(s): Very, very brief mention of sex
A/N: Thank god that more talented people than I have already gifed every second we've gotten of Aemond otherwise I would've had to put a super pixelated screenshot down there instead. How do you guys make these? Here's part two!
Tumblr media
Queen Alicent had insisted on speaking to you alone, without even your father or the Lord Hand as witnesses, which set your already frayed nerves to what felt like their very breaking point. Your hands were clasped tightly together in your lap and still, you could not stop their trembling. The two of you were sitting in her chambers and her handmaiden was pouring the two of you some tea before quietly leaving the room. You had known, of course, that something was wrong. Just a mere hour ago, your father had been all but dragged from his study and corralled into the throne room with all the rest of the High Lords and Ladies. No matter how desperately you cried out, none of the knights of the Kingsguard would tell you where they were taking him or what was happening.
And now here you were, sitting across from the Queen who regarded you with kind, sad eyes. She had never looked at you like this before. "Lady Y/N," she started before clearing her throat and glancing down at the small cup in front of you, "please, before we begin. It will help with your nerves." You nodded quickly, grasping the cup in your hand and hissing when some of the tea spilled on your fingers as you brought it up to your lips. "I tell you this now with the utmost confidence in your ability to be understanding... and patient." You looked at her over the rim of your cup. She pressed her lips together, refusing to meet your gaze for a moment before closing her eyes and sighing deeply. "The King is passed."
"Wh-what?" Your cup clattered against the table as you clumsily set it down.
"Please," she murmured and you held your tongue. "He named my son Aegon as his successor and, though my father believes in the inevitability of war, I do not. I am trying my best to tread a different path, to do what needs be done without bloodshed. There is no reason why thousands should die, why the Princess and her family should suffer, why the dragons should be turned loose. Do you understand?" You opened your mouth, but she continued. "There is a better way, Lady Y/N. I can see the path towards peace so clearly now. But..." She sighed, pushing her own cup aside and reaching across the table to grab your hands. "Even peace is not without sacrifice. Have you seen Aemond today at all?"
"No, Your Grace. I tried looking for him, I was hoping he could lend me some clarity, but I could not find him." You had even gathered your skirts and run to the training grounds where Ser Criston usually was, hoping maybe he could tell you where to find your betrothed, but the area was deserted. That was where a guard had found you and brought you before the Queen. "Do you know where he is?"
"I do, yes." She sighed again, her eyebrows drawn together, looking like each word was cutting her tongue on its way out of her mouth. "Lady Y/N, you must understand. I hold you in the highest regard. I cannot think of a young woman more suited for my son. You are dutiful and kind. I know he was quite taken with you, but whether there is to be war or not, we must strengthen our house. We must forge difficult alliances to persuade the Princess Rhaenyra to accept this new order. Gods, do I wish it could be different. Would that I or any of my children had been married for love and not politics." Your breath hitched.
Your betrothal to Aemond had been announced only a few short months ago, but he had caught your attention the moment you entered King's Landing a year ago. You remembered everything your Lady Mother had told you back when she was alive about how making a man fall in love with you was almost like casting a spell. 'You have to bewitch him, be the very air he breathes,' she'd told you one night shortly after you'd bled your first moon. Back then you were unsure of what she had meant, but you accepted the bottle of lavender oil and rose petals she had given you then. Years later when you would sit and pretend to read at the edge of the training grounds under the trees there, you still wore it on your neck. It made you feel womanly and powerful and more confident than you really were. Eventually, he noticed you, too.
Tears pricked at the corners of your eyes and you looked out the window, wishing a stiff breeze would pick you up and carry you home. Surely, she couldn't possibly mean...
"Aemond is to be betrothed to one of Borros Baratheon's girls." There it was. You tried to tug your hands away, but she only held them tighter and stroked the back of them with her thumbs. "But I swear to you, Lady Y/N, that you will not be cast aside. I know of the affection you both had for each other and I am sorry that it must be this way, but I promise that as soon as the Princess accepts our peace terms, I will personally secure a betrothal befitting a woman of your station and quality. I swear this to you." She squeezed your hands again and you swallowed the burning lump of coal in your throat. When the two of you locked eyes, you weren't ready to see that they were just as tearful as yours felt.
"What will happen to me?" Your voice trembled and broke at the edges, your mind racing with images of yourself next to or beneath some old, perverted Lord. You thought you would be one of the lucky girls. How stupid you felt. Fresh tears sprang into your eyes as one finally fell.
"Nothing, my dear girl. You and your father will both be safe and well taken care of here." The Queen reached up and gently brushed a stray lock of hair from your face, her eyes mirroring your own.
None of the people at court were even allowed to go to the Coronation. It was a pageant reserved only for the smallfolk, to make sure that they saw Aegon as their one, true King. You cared not for any of that nonsense, the politicking of it all, the "stinking, bloody outrage of it all", as your father had shouted at supper that night, slamming his fist on the table and forcing both your cups to spill. For once, you said nothing about his outburst, focusing instead on moving your food around on your plate until it was too cold to eat anymore.
"Queen Alicent told me she would find me another match."
"Another match," he scoffed, shaking his head, "What could be a better match than the Prince?"
What indeed.
You excused yourself early, leaving your father to puff and fume as uselessly as he wanted. He may complain within the confines of your four walls, but you knew he would never push for you and you could forgive him for that. He would never raise a hand to you and he loved you enough most days. On some of those days, you even felt sorry for him. He was all alone in the world, with only you for comfort and you were destined to leave him behind to start a family of your own someday.
As you lie in your bed that night, your eyes glued to the ceiling, you tried to quiet the drumming of your heart enough to find some semblance of rest. You had seen Aemond only last night and though you knew thinking of him was the last thing that would help calm you, you could do nothing to stop yourself. The apartments you shared with your father overlooked the gardens, a step up the ladder that Aemond had facilitated for you out of a desire to see you elevated to the status he'd said you deserved. Were you to lose even this now that you had lost him, too?
Aemond had arrived in a foul mood after the dinner with his family. Though it went against the rules of propriety, you knew your father was willing to bend or even break those rules for you, as he made clear when he allowed you to take Aemond's arm and lead him into your chambers. It had nothing to do with trust or faith and everything to do with status. Maybe some part of him even hoped the Prince had already deflowered you and you were with child so the Hightowers would have no choice but to go forward with the wedding. As you gently closed the door behind you, you felt... lucky, more than anything.
'What troubles you, My Prince?' You almost never called Aemond that anymore, except maybe in jest, but you had not seen him this cross in a while. He stood in front of your small fireplace with his back to you, his arms crossed over his chest and his head bowed. Every line in his body was taut as a bowstring and while you ached to reach out and smooth a comforting hand over his back, fear stayed your hand.
When he turned to you, there was a faint smile on his lips and he beckoned you over with a welcoming hand. 'I am not so troubled that you have to resort to naming me with titles, my love.' You sighed gratefully and leaned into him as his arm curled around you. The two of you stood there for a few moments and you finally rubbed your hand on his back like you had ached to just moments before. 'You see it, do you not? My nephews.'
You hummed, your mouth twisting in discomfort. 'Yes, they are...' You struggled to find the right way to phrase it. Imposters? Proof of the Princess Rhaenyra's indiscretions? Not of Velaryon blood? All true.
'Bastards.' He stepped away from you then, clenching his hands into fists. 'Unfit to rule over even a patch of rock in the Isle of Faces and yet one is to be King someday and the other Lord of the Tides.' One hand brushed against his eyepatch, his face souring. 'It is an absurdity. And I alone am regarded as the problem, for-for speaking the truth others so spinelessly ignore!'
'You know why, Aemond. Your father,' you paused and snorted, 'is hardly your father.'
'Even my mother stood against me tonight.' When he looked at you, you could see the sorrow in his shining blue eye and you could not stop yourself, you brought your hands up to caress his face, your fingers tracing his scar. You leaned up on your toes and drank his sadness from his lips as he gripped your waist so tightly, you thought he meant to breathe your soul in like it was a plume of smoke and vapor. 'Are you with me, my little talisman?' he'd asked as soon as he gave you a hair's breadth of space to answer him.
It almost hurt that he asked. Did he not know? But you understood how he liked to hear you swear your allegiance over and over again. 'I am with you, my love.'
To think that was only one night ago and now here you were, alone in your room with nothing but memories and your heart flying away to be claimed by some girl for the sake of a war that you had no personal stake in. Never had you thought you would be so lucky as to be allowed to marry for love, but for a moment it seemed that the Mother had smiled upon you with all her mercy and warmth, as your own mother no longer could, only for everything to be cruelly ripped away from you without even so much as a goodbye or an apology from the man who was to be your husband. You knew he loved you even if he never said those exact words aloud. It shined out of every inch of him like starlight. You had never needed to hear it until now.
Would he find the Baratheon girl he was to be promised to quite beautiful? Would she "bewitch" him too? Would she become his new talisman, the one thing he swore by for every scrap of fortune in his life? He used to tell you the gods had been kind enough to leave him with one eye so he could look at you. Would he tell her that?
You stomach turned as you imagine him and some other girl... together, in the way you had been craving from him for so long. You had never wanted anyone in such a way, had never even touched yourself until you met him. It was like he had lit a fire inside you and he was the only one who was meant to put it out. The gods are cruel.
You flipped over onto your stomach, listening to the wind blowing through the gardens outside your window. Though you longed for him, for his comforting words and loving embrace, even for his body in bed beside you, for once, just once, you also hoped that you would never have to see him again. The thought of seeing him like that, with a pretty little wife hanging off his arm, sent a wave of tears to your eyes. You were alone now. There was no need to hide from anyone and, even if your father was awake, he had never interrupted you when you were despondent like this before, not even after your mother's death. With the hope of lightening your heart's heavy burden, you unclenched and allowed yourself to sob into your pillow.

The game will be rated 18+ for strong languages, heavy themes, and the possible presence of explicit sexual content.
Heavy is the crown...
That's the first thing Merlin said to you after you woke up in their tower (right after he told you that you were definitely not what he expected but that “we'd deal with it.” But how much weight can a bruised ego carry in the face of the survival of a Kingdom?)
For generations, your family has been in charge of protecting the Sword of Light, and like every 1st born of your generation, it's up to you to pass it on to its true owner.
And here you are, with Clarent, the twin blade of excalibur in your hands. And according to Merlin that's enough to send you on a quest.
You must at all costs reunite the knights of the round table, find Arthur and Morgana and save Camelot (you must also defeat Uther Pendragon, but we'll see about that later...)
Anyway, Merlin has assured you that they will accompany you. They're a powerful sorcerer, right? So what could go wrong?
Tumblr media
Arthur Pendragon/Le Fay (The Young Dragon) He/Him
Everyone portrays the young king of Camelot as fair, loyal and kind, and while your family is no stranger to complimenting the young dragon, they know there is more to him than this bright side. Dark whispers also follow the discussion about the young king among your own. And if every coin has two sides, one can only wonder which one you will meet.
Physical traits will be up to the players.
Morgana Pendragon/Le Fay (The Snake Without Wings/The Elementalist) She/They
You can’t help it. Too many times Morgana has been portrayed as the villain of the story. Envious of her half-brother and dedicated to the destruction of Camelot. Yet the young woman in front of you seems far from this adjectives. She always seems surprised when someone shows her affection as if she wasn’t expecting it. Is it a manipulation game? Will you manage to get rid of the idea you made of her during your apprenticeship?
Physical traits will be up to the players.
Merlin (The Demon Seed/The Keeper of Time and Pages.) They/Them
It is with reverence and wonder that the members of your family talk about their encounter with the wizard. Yours was rather chaotic. As for the reverence, it is Merlin who reserves it for you and not the other way around, as the young man is so sure of your success. But young man is not the right word, the half demon is old and sadness and fatigue are hidden behind their joyful smile. Two factors that impact their magic for their greatest horror as for yours. Can you really believe them when they whisper to you that everything will be alright.
Physical traits will be up to the players.
Guinevere (The Carmelite Amazon.) She/Her
You were betrayed. The Queen of May? That little young woman who looks more like a storm, really? Isn't Guinevere supposed to be sweet and shy? How could things have gone so different?! Not afraid to say what's on her mind loud and clear, wielding a sword with as much or more acuity than any man, Guinevere is the opposite of everything you've been romanticized about her. Some might even say that she is scarier than Morgana. Her hand is never far from her blade when you speak with Arthur. Is she afraid you will insult the future King? Her future King? Are you supposed to be a matchmaker? Or will things take another turn with the Carmelid Amazon.
Physical traits will be up to the players.
Lucan/Lucia (The Twins' Shadow/The Royal Butler/Maid.) He/Him or She/Her
You’re not gonna lie, you had to rack your brain to remember them.  A shame considering they are one of Arthur’s first supporters around the round table. Brother of Bedivère, loyal to the death, they always have a kind word for you. Words they say to you in a voice as sweet as honey. But is their attention to you due to what you are or who you are? And why does the possibility that their kindness is only granted to you because of the sword you bear for the heir make your heart ache?
Physical traits will be up to the players.

Hey hey! I loved your Prom one, and now I'm hungry for more! (Sorry not sorry =P). An idea that's been knocking around in my head is, its implied Tam-Tam gets bullied in the later Steps. SO, I would like to see MC getting into a fight after someone makes Tamarack cry, and the Qiu joins in to help because, love rival or no love rival, they ain't lettin' that shit slide.
School Fight
Tamarack x Male Reader (FTM Safe!) Author's note: I’m starting to think you really like the "jealous Qiu, and in love with Tamarack" dynamic… just a feeling. 🎀 CW: A physical fight and mentions of bullying. - I will also warn you that I may have not re-edited this. 1972 words

Ever since MC had met Tamarack, he’s doted on her. If she was a princess, he was her knight, through and through. He was at Tamarack’s defense when Oma and her argued, he was at her side when she felt isolated, he was always paying attention to her face to see if she approved or disapproved certain plans. She is his everything, and even in high school it hasn’t changed much. It certainly isn’t as obvious anymore, nor is he following her around like a lost puppy as much either. With getting older and no longer feeling out-of-place after being the new neighbor, he’s become more independent. Confident, some might say.
MC began to climb the high school popularity ranks the older he got, along with Qiu (but Qiu wasn’t all that excited about being popular at this point). Though that never let MC feel bigger than Tamarack. Instead he always made sure to make it obvious that they were friends, that he’ll make time for her any day, that she’s just as important as any one of his friends. In a room full of people, he’ll always choose her.
So when MC decided that he wanted to walk with Tamarack after her after school orchestra practice for the first time, he had a gut-squeezing feeling when he saw her with a small frown and tiny tears at the edges of her eyes. He quickly rushed up to her, but she squeezed her eyes when she noticed MC and smiled, the tears becoming much less notable now.
“Are you okay?” He asked, studying her face worriedly, holding himself from running his hands over the tear trails on her face. She nodded persistently, “Yeah, Orchestra was just stressful today. Rehearsal stuff, it happens.” She waved her hand dismissively.
MC sighed understandingly, “Well if it’d help, we can go to the Diner and get milkshakes?” Tamarack perked up at the offer, and while her sadness didn’t seem to fully pass, it still made her smile.
As the week continues, MC notices that Tamarack’s been more stressed at the mention of orchestra. She’s anxious in the hallways, as if looking for someone, or trying to be aware of what people are talking about. Of course Tamarack was a little more anxious and awkward, they’re in highschool! It’s kind of a package deal. But it was way out of character for her, this was fear, and that little voice in MC’s head knew that something was wrong. All he needed to know was what the cause was.
MC walked into the auditorium, sitting in the front row as he kept his eyes on Tamarack the whole time as she settled into her seat and pulled out her instrument. Though, nobody really seemed to notice him with the bright lights on them, and if they did, he wasn’t their main focus. They were working on playing music for one of the school musicals, but not even halfway into practice, MC already noticed plenty of red flags.
Two freshmen who sat behind Tammy were being dickheads. Notably one was blonde and the other was brunette. It started out small, but even then it took everything in MC to not get up and tell them to cut it out. Maybe accidentally spill some water on them. Who knows. The two boys went back and forth throughout their instrumental pauses or 10 minute breaks, throwing side-eyes at Tammy while whispering some surely cruel comments about her considering that in response to every whisper, Tamarack seemed to curl more and more into herself.
MC had kept his eye on them, wishing that Tamarack could notice him and give him a signal on what to do. Scenarios and plans ran through his head, many of them revolving around the idea of revenge. On the other hand, he can hear his ma’s and Tamarack’s voice to calm down, to not get in trouble. The rest of the half hour passes and Tamarack makes her way over to MC, inhaling deeply before crashing her body onto him, pressing her weight against him so that he could hold her closely.
“Tammy…?”
“Yeah?”
“Is there a reason you haven’t told me about those two dickheads?” MC crossed his arms. Of course he wasn’t angry at her, but the fact that those two had the nerve to be mean to the nicest and adorable girl in the whole world. The audacity.
Tamarack huffs no longer leaning on him, “No! They’re just dumb, and it’s…” she falters, rolling her eyes and no longer making eye contact with MC, “It’s nothing to worry about.” MC glances around and finds the two boys headed out, but not leaving without throwing a judgemental look towards Tamarack. It only made MC’s stomach turn and twist.
Just say the word, Tam. Put me in the ring, coach.
“If they keep this up, I swear I’ll start a fight”
“Please don’t” Tamarack laughs softly, but they both knew that MC wasn’t strictly joking. MC only makes a small unsatisfied sound, his eyes stuck and glaring at the two boys until they were out of sight. “Earth to MC?” Tamarack waves her hand in front of his face, “Are we still gonna walk to my place?”
MC sighs before taking Tamarack’s cello case, puffing his chest for a quick second before the weight shifted comfortably in his arms,
“MC, you know you don’t have to carry it for me every time-”
“You’ll have to pry this from my cold dead hands if you expect me to let you carry this yourself”
“My hero” Tamarack sighs with a smug look, readjusting MC’s hair so that his hair is back to normal before their walk.
“My princess” MC grins back.
—
The week had felt long, as if the school building itself was actively stopping the clock and hoping no one would question it. MC and Tamarack were walking down the halls in their transition period, arm in arm. Chatting away about their next class and hooked together to not lose each other to the crowd was always their excuse.
“Imagine if the crowds sucked her away and I’d never find her again!” MC huffed to Qiu long ago.
So MC made it clear that he would never let that happen. Nor was he going to let the world see the dust of blush on his cheeks wherever they did cross arms.
Unfortunately, the two boys from the orchestra had caught onto Tamarack’s presence on their walk down the halls. MC could see the cogs turning in their heads, which was surprising considering that MC thought there was nothing in there anyways. Defeating all logic regardless, there was a non-verbal plan being set in their minds, which made MC tense.
He felt worse when he stole a quick look over at Tamarack, seeing her understandably more anxious than him, tears welling up in her eyes once more. This time she finally let them fall.
The two boys pointed and whispered, judging something– and when MC looked at what they were pointing at, it was a part of a bit of high school embarrassment. Tamarack’s backpack was almost wide-open, not enough for everything to fall out. Of course, they were close enough so that you could hear the glimpses of terrible things they decided to say about her. About her intelligence and comments about her appearance. People are starting to look.
“Guys, can you both just fucking rela-” MC was interrupted by the brunette who passed him, shoulder hitting shoulder, which caught MC off guard.
Tamarack was quiet now, and a panicked and helpless look was all she could give as the brunette had gone up to her, let her walk away just a bit so that he could reach into her bag, pulling out whatever he could grab. It was her lunch bag. In a quick attempt of playing monkey in the middle, the brunette with the lunch bag tosses it over to the blonde boy, who’s conveniently closer to MC.
As the two boys laugh, the blonde holding the lunch bag makes eye contact with MC, almost as if expecting him to laugh too at this obnoxious act.
There’s a moment where MC just nods, the situation finally clicking and snapping in his head.
Almost as if it’s instinct, MC forces his body to slam the kid against the locker which takes everyone off guard. Those who knew MC from elementary especially. He wasn’t lost or trying to fit in anymore like he did back then. He wasn’t hiding behind Tamarack and hoping that everyone stays friends. It almost made MC seem bigger now.
The blonde was almost too shocked by the reaction, but he recovered and decided that he’d fight back. They both shoved each other around, throwing a punch in there occasionally, the growing crowd of kids gave a lot of space. Phones were out, and people were cheering and commenting. In one moment MC was pinned and being pushed around by his clothes, in another moment MC had the blonde onto the floor, shoving him harshly back down on the ground.
Veronica had pulled Tamarack away while Qiu and Ren struggled against the mob of children to see what was happening. All they had heard was that MC was in a fight. All Qiu fully registered was a blonde boy on the ground, MC trying to pin the boy’s hands away, and a brunette boy about to enter to help his friend, most likely to make the situation worse or make this a 2v1 situation. Qiu quickly ran up to the brunette and redirected him, only shoving him back warningly.
That’s all Qiu needed to see, and they knew that it probably had something to do with Tamarack. Who else would MC fight like this for?
“Are you gonna keep going?!” MC shouts at the boy, trying to be heard over the multiple kids shouting. The blonde boy kept up with the struggle before finally giving in and knowing that MC wasn’t going to let go of his wrists until they both stopped hurting one another.
The blonde boy nods persistently, allowing MC to finally get off of him (not without "accidentally nudging this guy on the side a bit" with his foot) and take a couple steps back in case the boy was planning on starting another fight.
Not that there was time for it considering teachers finally reached the situation. The crowd quickly dispersed, leaving only Tamarack, Qiu, MC, and the two boys in that hall with the teachers..
Fortunately, Tamarack and Qiu didn’t get in much trouble besides whatever their parents and grandparents found to be appropriate. MC on the other hand had a 4 day suspension, and the other two boys had gotten slightly longer and worse punishments than them. MC’s mom wasn’t the happiest at the whole situation, but she also figured deep down something like this would’ve happened. Tamarack’s Opa found the whole thing a lot more amusing than Omi, of course, but they were still somewhat glad the bullying issue was done with too.
And it wasnt like Tamarack and MC were banned from seeing each other ever again. Tamarack and Qiu would visit MC after school to bring him homework, and study together.
At the end of the day, no one bothered to bully or make comments about Tamarack anymore, lest they deal with MC when he comes back. At least MC promised he’d never do it again. Probably.

And
30
LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
thank you so much, I shall answer these prompts NEOW
21: Fics you wish you could find more of?
Oooohhh more fics involving Gwen, that's for sure. When she's written right she's one of the strongest, most relatable characters imo, 'cause all she wants is for the world to be right and just and kind and everything wants to prove her wrong, but she won't back down from her views. I would also adore more Elyan, just in general. And complete rewrites of the show 'cause the one I'm reading right now is so good I might do one as well. Also modern au's where they're all like secret badass spies or smth, 'cause those are so fucking cool (i am accepting fic recs for ALL of this, please feed me y'all)
24: Everyone knows that fandom doesn’t like uther but what are your feelings about gaius?
I think 1) we need more concrete info about how he was when he was younger, but 2) i think he is severely complicated and wanted what was best of merlin and morgana, but failed the two while also giving them a ton of love. With morgana, he just didnt want her to pursue her power lest she become uther's next victim, cuz gaius cares for the pendragon siblings like his own. With merlin, he was just trying his best with his overpowered nephew, who alos has a destiny regarding his people's genocide's son, and he just doesn't know what to do half the time, kinda like merlin. I didnt like how he lied to merlin n morgana, how he gaslit her and how he made merlin hide and become so anxious abt his magic (and we see what that looks like season 5), but i get it. I really get it. I dont know what i wouldve done if one wrong move could mean the death of two kids he considers his own. I bet he was scared all the time and hated himself for it.
27: Modern Merlin headcanons, if any?
OH BOY. OHHHH BOY. So many. It really depends on what au i have for modern merlin, but I'll give you a few generals:
he's a teacher of sorts; i like the idea that he's kinda collecting magical anomalies and teaching them how to understand their powers and being, since he knows what its like to be afraid of urself, so he's a personal magic teacher. I also rly like my magic elementary school au, since its merlin teaching magic to a bunch of kids, which is adorable
he has officially one cat, a black one called Midnight, that accidentally became immortal along the way and now hes severally attached. I say officially since hes also friends with any other animal that he might come across and they recognise him if he passes them again. disney princess fr
he's figured out his gender and he can turn into a woman if he wants; she looks exactly like merlin, same height, same weight n muscles, the hair is longer cuz merlin likes it that way and her voice is deep and gorgeous
his favourite weapon is a staff or any long distance fighting weapon of the sort; also he looks cool as fuck fighting with it, but thats just a bonus
I'll stop here but i have SO MANY MORE
30: Side character death that makes you the maddest?
Elyan. There was, quite literally, no need for it. I was gonna say Lancelot, since we did not get enough of him, but his death made sense for his character. Elyan? What the fuck was that? It was just for pain and nothing else. What did it add to the story if not just a sad funeral scene and thats it? It just felt like they wanted him gone n found a way, and that pisses me off. I feel like him saving gwen and living would've given such a complex situation when she turns evil, 'cause what if she "confides" more n more in her brother, creating a rift between arthur n elyan, which then creates a rift between arthur n the knights, which would just isolate him further n make him suffer, which is what morgana wanted!! we couldve had protective brother elyan! I think i just wanted more knights in general.
Thank you so much for this ask, I yapped a fuck ton but it was funn

Kylux, aftermath of torture
Part 2/2 | Part 1/2
"How is my Grand Marshall?"
"How is my Grand Marshall?" Hux mimicked him. "How is my dear Grand Marshall? How are you dear?" Ren cleared his throat realizing that Hux was quoting him " And famous 'Hux. You should be in my bed' on the bridge."
"It was slip of the tongue and i apologized. On the bridge."
" 'I mean in your bed' it's not an apology. It's merely a correction. Do you have anything to tell me Supreme Leader ?"
"And... and if i do?"
"I want to hear it. Now. Or get out. "Kylo sat down next to him. He looked awfully guilty.
"I..."
"Look at me when you are talking. I am not on the wall."
"Kriff why do you have to make everything harder than it is?" Hux smiled at that.
"Annoying, isn't it? Go on." Kylo sighed.
"I need you."
"I know. That's all?"
"I... was worried. About you."
"Yes. I realized, Ren."
"I.. care."
"You made it quite clear."
"Kriff i fucking hate you."
"Please."
Please.
" When they took you i thought i am going to either die or kill everyone around..."
Hux suddenly looked tired. Sad.
" Yes i feared you may say that. Don't... get me wrong Ren. You are... there is nothing wrong with you. I mean there is but you helped me. I appreciate that. I am just... not the right person to... love or whatever you are impling."
Kylo laughed.
"Really? You are talking to me Hux."
"You don't understand" You don't know what i have done to get this
"Explain then."
" I never had anyone" and you will never know.
"So am I."
"I never... " Never.
"Me neither."
"I even don't know if i want to ever..." It was a mistake. The price was to high.
"Its fine i don't care." Hux was looking at him confused "Look. If it was about bedding someone i would ask one of the knights. "
"Then... what is it about ?"
"Having someone on my side. Somebody close. That i can relay on, believe in his words. Spend time. Sleep by if its fine with you. Just sleep nothing more. I am tired of waiting when you will stab me in the back. We should work together. As equals"
Not if. When.
"We will never be equal. There is huge gap between us and there always will be. Ren. How can’t you see that?"
"I hoped ..."
"Hope is not a thing i can relay on. I am sorry Supreme Leader. I have work to do." He dismissed him. Kylo was looking at him in shock he turned around and exited slowly. He dismissed him. Just like that. After Kylo told him about... love? Feelings?. What kind of person dose that? He sighed. Hux does. He was actively avoiding him for two weeks after that. He didn't know it was mistake. Horrible mistake. Hux was frustrated. Still, deeply wounded, recovering from weeks with Resistance and Kylo ignoring him was not helpful. At all. He realized that on Supreme Council meeting. Hux was not looking at him. Even when he was talking he kept his eyes somewhere behind him.
Look at me. Look at me. Look at me.
"Look at me!" He said louder than he wanted to. Hux jumped and Kylo immediately felt need to apologize. Grand Marshall looked at him finally. With disdain. But somewhere behind that, there was fear. Kylo pressed on his mind with force and felt pain and heard scream. "Everybody out except Grand Marshall. " he said quietly. They obeyed without a word. Hux stayed. He was silent. They sat in silence for few long minutes.
"How are you ?" Kylo said.
"Not good." Hux answered.
And then silence.
"I... i am sorry. I shouldn't ignore you like that. I was just... "
"No need to be sorry. I understand. You expected something else. " And I expected you to be wiser. And i expected myself to be more confident.
"it didn't gave me right to ignore you. You were honest i should... at least appreciate that"
And silence again. Hux sighed.
"I... " Should tell you.
"And you were right. There is a gap between us. We are different. But it doesn't mean that we can't be equal. You will never have force and i will never be like you. I can fly things. You can build them. I can manipulate people using force, you don't need force even for that. If you can't relay on hope, relay on the fact that i am everything that you are not. And that you are everything that i never will be. Hux I.... "
Oh Ren.
"Come to my quarters after my shift." Hux blurted out and left the room leaving Kylo alone. Just like that.
****
"You have cold nose"
"Don't whine Ren. "
"You know? For someone who doesn't want anything close to sex you are quite cuddly." Hux glared at him.
"Careful Ren. It's your test night. Do anything wrong and It will never happen again. I can assure you. "
"Easy. I know the rules you were very precise." Hux nuzzled into his neck.
"I killed Pryde"
"It helped?"
"What do you think?"
Ren sighed toying with his hair. He observed like Hux visibly relaxed. That was so surreal. So, so surreal. They were lying like that in silence and Kylo felt that Hux can't just drift off. "What have they done?" He asked.
He felt as Hux clenched his fingers on him. His lips trembled for a moment. Then he shrugged.
"It's... nothing i want to talk about. I am sure you went through my medical records so. "
"I did."
"That is an outrageous violation of my privacy Ren." He said but there was no anger.
"I can stand it Hux. Just tell me"
He put his head on Kylo's shoulder. He was silent for very long time. But Kylo knew there was storm in his mind. And then he started talking.
And talking. And talking. And between this festival of macabre, pain and humiliation. Between tears, broken bones and uttered words Kylo found himself holding him tightly. Kylo found himself crying. Promising that they will all die in pain. Kylo found himself saying "You are safe".
And if only he paid more attention. He would see Hux smiling as he leaned into his arms. He would see not broken mind but mind so corrupted with darkness, so submerged in fear that was able to scheme its own destruction. Just for that short, quiet words" You are safe".
It seems that it only takes few weeks of torture to get him what he wanted. Rank, Pryde's head, Kylo Ren... and slowly but surely whole Galaxy. Now that he has a weapon more powerful than Starkiller.
Love. And it was painful to get it. But everything has a price to pay. Let's hope it wasn't too high.

Moon Knight City of the Dead Issue 1… why…?
So. New MK side run has begun, the hyped up full on debut of Layla/new Scarlet Scarab in the comics, with a premise that most writers would twist into an epic and breathtaking journey.
We don’t get that here.
And I have a lot of thoughts on why and how I feel so frustrated with what we got. There’s pieces of something awesome, potential to go to some really fascinating places, and yet it is held back in almost every aspect, creating something messy and clunky that makes me mad to read.
(This is long btw)
First off though, some things I did enjoy!
I really love the art and coloring of this issue. The anatomy and movement and shadows, the stylization of character’s faces and costumes, the sprawling city with its deep reds and blues that feel saturated and weighty. It’s great. Besides a few moments that it comes out of left field with some bad stuff (Layla’s whole face at the end or the MK mask w teeth during the memory slideshow like whaTtt is that), it’s super solid and made for a very enjoyable looking comic.
It was also really fun to see Badr for a little. I think it would’ve been cool to get more, and the pacing of things as I’ll get to later sapped his importance in the story for me some, making him feel more like a prop or a plot device to get it going, but overall it was lovely to see him again. And it was cool to see him being a doctor as well, as we haven’t seen that as recently in MacKay! Always a joy my dear sir please come back soon.
The story in concept. Going to the underworld, detaching a headmate supernaturally to journey to a different plane of reality to save one life, and meeting a dead ally along the way is fascinating stuff, an idea that inspires me to want to explore it myself.
Because (and now it’s time to get into the stuff I didn’t like) the writing doesn’t do this idea justice at all.
This is not the worst MK comic ever rn, not their worst writing. It’s not as violently ableist or antisemitic as things like Bemis or making a joke out of MK like some others, but it’s just stupid, and what it glosses over or gets wrong is weird and uncomfortable and harmful in its own right.
To start this isn’t my Marc. His guilt is not one of punishment for penance, of believing he’s sinned and needs to be washed clean by pain. He is a man stuck in bad coping mechanisms and trying to pretend he’s not. He’s a man who hates himself and uses violence as what I would describe as a form of self harm. But it is not with the goal of erasing his past.
Yes, he runs from the person of Marc Spector, he runs from the idea and the responsibility, but Marc doesn’t try to forget. He holds onto things with a vice grip and never lets himself drop it. He believes in his own mythos and is grappling with his complicated and traumatized history to remember he can love and care and trust people again, that the work of making his life better is not solely on his shoulders. That’s what MacKay’s been dealing with.
MacKay Marc is guilty and self flagellating but in a way he tries not to think about, that he brushes over. He puts on an air of confident collectedness and has more hate for Marc as a concept then specifically his actions, and he’s still able to move forward and find a type of momentum and bravado in the MK suit.
Or in simpler terms: yes Marc has guilt. He does not have this kind of guilt.
The first few pages read so strangely, just this over dramatic spiel that feels more like daredevil than moon knight, like a rehashed dramatic intro to a moody sad 90s comic. And not in a good way. It’s not deep it’s just annoying and tedious and the prose is clunky and again, extremely off in its vibes and message. I think it could’ve been alright, if some of the talk of his guilt had been shifted and the narration hadn’t continued constantly throughout the rest of the issue (which I’ll get to later), but as is in its full context it’s just… weird.
In addition to the weird guilt vibes, there’s further issues with the Khonshu religiosity in this.
Khonshu isn’t something Marc worships, he’s something he uses for his own means. He’ll call on him or talk about being the priest of the mission, but that’s because Khonshu doesn’t have oversight, he’s a tool and form of direction and theming, and at the story’s core Marc is the priest for his mission, not this god’s.
At points in this issue he genuinely sounds dedicated though, and it shifts the flavor of earlier pieces more in line with his usual monologuing to seeming more like strange spiritual devotion. Especially calling Khonshu the greatest of great gods, or saying that him being in the underworld is Khonshu’s mission. It changes his actions from that of Marc to that of a real Khonshu follower and its…. Just weird. It’s all just weird and very ooc.
On top of that, there’s no mention or interrogation or even presence of discussing Judaism alongside all of this. I’m not Jewish myself but have had multiple convos around the topic w those who are n who have made their own posts discussing it and can add on more nuance n info to this should they like (bc more thoughts for discussion are always awesome), but just on a surface level it’s strange. It’s strange to have a plot revolving around going to another belief system’s afterlife and not at all bringing up how it clashes or relates to Jewish beliefs. Yes Marc isn’t really actively practicing anymore but I’d hazard Jake probably is, and Marc has still talked about his connection to his faith and how it’s impacted his time as moon knight and serving Khonshu.
The text treats the Egyptian pantheon belief system as the True and Accepted default here, with Marc not even discussing anything about going to an afterlife he doesn’t belong in (and shouldn’t even have) as a Jewish man, or even thinking about how Badr discussing Ka conflicts with Jewish beliefs on the soul and how Neshamah differ.
And yes, Marc works regularly with the very real Egyptian pantheon and mystical systems but it’s in a different way, and under a different context and understanding by readers of his acceptance of it.
A whole other layer of depth, conflict, and exploration could’ve been added by really digging into the theological implications of this plot, of a Jewish soul in the Egyptian afterlife, and yet it’s not brought up at all, not referenced or mentioned and it makes it all feel weirdly out of place, or like stuff is being glossed over.
That, on top of Jake and Steven (not to mention the entire rest of the main mission cast) being completely absent in mention, consultation, presence, or anything just feeds into this strange sense of Pepose wanting Marc to be the idea he has of him in his head, this guilty, sad, and violent merc serving a moon god with not a ton else. And yes again those are all aspects of Marc, but there is nuance to each of those aspects and treating him as a singlet with no thoughts on the conflicts in faith of his present is… just weird.
I don’t know if he’ll be treated as a singlet the whole run, but the fact that the body’s soul being sent into the afterlife has not already brought in any system conflict at all is an issue. Is it their collective soul? Is it just Marc’s? How does this comic understand alter soul distinction? Has it thought about it at all? I mean the answer is no but the thing is it should’ve.
That’s where so many of my issues with this come from though: choices just being… not good. Not thought out or in line with the characters and world. The writing is off and out of place and gOD THE CONSTANT NARRATION IS GRATING!!
I don’t know why it was chosen for Marc to novel write his thoughts and observations the whole issue but it’s bad. It goes past introducing plots or observations that can’t be shown in text to either:
1. Filling space that doesn’t need to be filled
2. Restating what has just been said or shown in a panel (“we have the power of the four horsemen” “wow they just got the power of the four horsemen”)
3. At worst, telling us stuff that was not indicated at all by anything else (“oh I know something is wrong here even though I have not been given enough reason to pique that suspicion” “oh I reunite with Layla and hold her and take her in but haha you don’t see that ig”)
It’s annoying and makes reading things difficult because he’s blabbering on the whole time in places he DOESNT NEED TO!! And it makes the action and emotional movement feel awkward and forced. I don’t need to know every second of Marc’s thoughts Pepose I can parse out things with my eyes I promise you that. Also can he stop talking about penance for TWO SECONDS!!!
The worst part is narration works when done well! When it highlights things that can’t be shown in art or gives some bits of exploration into feelings or exposition, but we don’t need it in every panel. It actually confused some parts of where to look for me by telling me what was about to happen before it did. Stop being like “I thought it was over but—“ JUST LET US SEE ITS NOT OVER!!
Another moment (similar ish to the start) where the narration would’ve worked for me (if it was not surrounded by just more constant narrating monologue) is when Marc first arrives in the Duat. The prose is pretty, it’s vibrant, it describes things the audience wouldn’t be able to pick up from static pictures and helps to set the scene. The only issue is that it doesn’t stand on its own, it’s not an interjection of observations and thoughts, it’s another entry in the never ending cycle of Marc just talking. And it loses some of its luster because of that.
There’s also just a handful of pieces of either dialogue or thoughts that (in the context of Steven and Jake being absent at the moment despite not being absent at the point in time this should be taking place) make me feel very uncomfortable with Pepose’s vibes on their mental health. Some lines that rubbed me the wrong way in context include “The rage fills within me—and suddenly I have a plan. That said, it would help if my plan wasn’t dangerously insane.” “You know me Badr, mental discipline is my middle name.” And a few similar ones I don’t want to reread again for.
They’re just unnecessary man. We don’t need vaguely or directly ableist vibes in words with MK anymore. It works if it feels like it’s coming from Marc’s internalized ableism IE when he was talking about being called crazy during the discussion with Steven and Jake and Jake called him out for it, but when it’s obvious it’s just how the author sees things it sucks!
Stop using insane, stop using crazy, stop being like “oh I’m so good at keeping myself in check,” WE DONT NEED IT!! ALSO THEY R AT A GENERAL POINT OF SYSTEM COMMUNICATION N HARMONY RN!!
Which also just… man this feels like it’s trying to introduce MK instead of continuing an already established and well under way arc. Yea, this isn’t MacKay writing it, but it’s still in the continuity and set up for his run and like… sorry not sorry but I think you should take that context into account if you’re going to be working within it???
Instead the story props itself up by trying to introduce everything at once and Marc feels like he’s starting from the bottom of development.
And speaking of introducing everything at once! Oh boy the pacing!
No one besides Badr is consulted before Marc goes into the Duat, Badr just. Sends him there. There’s no real build up for why there’s a need go that far, for what the threat is or why Marc would go to these lengths so suddenly. Like yeah I know he wants to save a kid who’s a traveler of the night, but like… Others have died or almost died on his watch and he’s never gone to this point before, even though it seems like it’s always something they’ve had as an option. Like… ok ig if Soldier hadn’t been vamped he would just be dead lmao (though also hey! Why and how do souls end up in this afterlife? Do they have to believe in the gods? Do they have to be in some way tied to the pantheon? Is it just where souls go if they’re near moon knight lmaO? If you want to have your afterlife plot you have to do the worldbuilding for it)
And while yes, a lot of this is because This Plot Wasnt Thought Up During Earlier Parts Of Mackay, it also isn’t introduced in a way that feels natural or makes sense.
Events just Happen. Mysteries or drives are just Said without a good basis for why they’re there. Again, this cult was talked about as just kinda a sadistic gang but then they’re a big deal? And oh the kid is dying and oh he’s worth going to the afterlife for and OH WERE JUST HERE NOW and “oh there’s a conspiracy I’ve decided with no real evidence” and HEY FOUND THE GUY and—Suddenly a whole lot of what is happening. God heart full on cult horsemen of the apocalypse memory flashback and BOMBS NOW APPARENTLY and LAYLA and MK BIG PAST BADDIES BOSS FIGHT INCOMING!!
Like ohhhh my god stuff is so rushed and happens so inorganically and with no time to really understand what’s happening. It’s a type of story where my suspension of disbelief isn’t there and it fully just feels like seeing the writer trying to get to the end goal of what they want to write about (moon knight fighting old villains) as quickly as possible. And it SUCKS! Like this genuinely should’ve been more than one issue, there should’ve been at least sOme more build up to gEtting to the city of the dead in the first place, no matter additionally uncovering a plot of some sort happening and Layla turning up.
It’s just…. It’s so rushed and strange and forced and it didn’t have to be and IT MAKES ME MAD IT IS and it’s just not enjoyable to read. It all feels so shallow and stilted and weird, all while having this underlying idea with so much weight, some generally gorgeous art, some moments that could’ve been really awesome, and last but not least…. Literally a good reference to doing a Duat plot well.
This whole mini run is for MCU synergy, bringing Layla in, exploring the Duat and it’s lore, and again yes, the run isn’t done, but it just…. Compared to the MCU plot for the Duat this feels so…. GraaggHhggh. Especially when it comes to system interaction and exploring different painful memories that effect headmates in different ways.
It’s just. It was an extremely frustrating read from both a technical writing standpoint and a character exploration standpoint, and it worries me and doesn’t excite me at all for future issues. Like we’ll sEe but goddamn this is not a good start no matter how it plays out and it doesn’t give me confidence if it turns out I have to read several more issues of this kind of stuff.
Petty nitpicks speed run because there wasn’t enough enjoyable padding for them to not stand out!
I don’t know if Pepose could’ve specified or not but Marc’s not drinking vodka in the opening scene, it looks more like whiskey or something similar by the bottle, again nailing home how strangely off this Marc is from the Marc he’s meant to be with how Mackay has built him up.
Why do they use Duat and City of the Dead like they’re interchangeable titles it’s just the Duat like I get calling it “the city of the dead” since it is that but like. Let that just b the run title they shouldn’t be calling it that like it’s a final name.
They misspell Dr. Alraune’s name lmao
How did the kid get… hurt..? The only point in the opening fight I can think he maybe got hit was with the gunfire but it didn’t seem like that was aimed towards him and there wasn’t any moment of having a detail in the background showing him get injured. And he wasn’t lethally injured at the start so ???
What… is the continuity between the Hydra vs Karnak Cowboys fight we see in MacKay and the flashback here. They were on an empty road there when they crashed? And now they’re in the heart of the city? AlsO bOMBS???
Anyway all I’ll wrap it up with is when the only thing I genuinely smile at is the cameo and namedrop of Apocalypse you know something is wrong with your story lmaO

i'm so happy you liked it!!! wow, you're just as insane as I am. life is good. our thoughts are in sync. the tragedy that speaks to the core. thank YOU. it's refreshing to let your slightly crazy thoughts out there and be welcomed. im absolutely insane for their dynamic (im dying to live this). you have no idea (im losing it). i personally think gojo would be relieved once he's king, he's in control now, it's natural to him. there are more possibilities and he's so prepared. but you know what? becoming king has its duties and one of them is that prince!gojo's hand has been promised before he was born. i wonder how he'd cope with that knowing he belongs to someone else. i like to think he'd rebel and refuse the marriage completely (for personal, selfish reasons), but again he isn't childish in the sense of ignoring politics completely, yes? behind playful comments he is indeed a smart man. after all, he was raised to become this. he knows how to navigate the world and understands that his decisions can have massive political impact (and that this can also be negative for his knight, right? he cannot risk losing the power and privileges he owns, how would he be able to protect them? he must play the game as is). i think this might be one of the moments in his life where he'll be the most conflicted. but he'd play nice and polite when his fiance comes to visit him (i think due to gojo's natural disdain for his fiance, casual visits would be encouraged a few weeks before marriage). the first sting of jealousy knight!reader feels and oh. that's when they realize the nature of their feelings for prince!gojo. that it goes a little beyond what they thought. their dynamic might shift a little, things become uncertain and confused. knight!reader might dissociate between it all, not allowing selfish feelings to get in the way. and gojo's so annoyed and he wishes the whole building would just collapse and burn with everyone in it. and there knight!reader is, not so far away, shining only for his eyes. prince!gojo looks at them like begging for forgiveness, help, love and sadness all together while the lady by his side tries to get his attention. it's pathetic, he thinks. but his heart is somewhere else, it belongs to someone else for fucking sake!!! can't anyone see that? their first kiss would probably happen during this time I think. i can see him finding knight!reader at night, carrying the weight of the kingdom on his shoulders. and when his eyes land on them relief washes over him. soft moonlight shyly on knight's confused face asking 'satoru, are you okay?' vulnerability! comfort! home! because they belong to each other deeply, a mere look on each others face is enough to understand something is wrong. the kiss!! his little act of rebellion. he's so proud of it after, it's cute af. can you see? the blushing and all!! difficult times, ah the hurt!! at the end,,, i think ruling by himself is much gojo like, right? it would be somewhat controversial and there would be implications but to him it wouldn't be fair to fill a promise he didn't make, plus he's committed to his knight!reader already. ye? he'd learn so much and mature during this period as well. he'd find strength in his love and his love alone. it fills him with a supernatural sense of responsibility that he finally understands that knight!reader went through (though only a little, as he doesn't get his hands dirty nor commit acts of violence (i hope he does, sincerely)). and yess,,, sorry, it was too much again. or if it doesnt resonate with you, haha. omg. i am simply happy in my element talking to you. yes, uhm. you can call me momo/crazymomo if thats ok? it was supposed to be 'crazymomo' but i guess it kind got f'ed up in the way and i just didnt care about fixing it. im bringing you cake ok!!!!!
HI MOMOOO u r feeding us yet again!!!!! and same same same, its so fun to be insane together i appreciate u sm <333 mickey rlly is a genius bc ive never seen a character/reader dynamic thats caused as much insanity as knight!reader & prince!gojo they had me in a chokehold from the get-go
and OHHH these thoughts momo!!!! so tasty and interesting, i lovelovelove hearing more abt how u interpret them!! when it comes to dynamics like these i feel like everyone has their own take on them at least to some degree and i think its SOSO fun to compare!!!!
BUT OKOK let me get thru this!!! i had so much fun reading this and thinking abt it, u brought up so many things i hadnt considered yet!!
OK SO. king!gojo…… after some contemplation i think i definitely agree w u momo. i feel like satoru relaxes once he has the throne. its tough and a huge responsibility, a weight on his shoulders, but its no longer hanging over him as a burden he’ll one day have to bear, its something he’s gained and grown used to and i think he earnestly loves making a change in the society he lives in. and!! i think he is soso loved. i see him as the type to visit poorer villages all the time, financially support struggling mothers, speak to their babies and hold them all gently HES JUST SO… hes such a good man im gonna be sick. ABSOLUTELY helps all orphans he comes across they may or may not remind him of a certain knight so he cant bear to look away from them
(i do think he still longs to run away w knight!reader tho…. its just a nice daydream to him atp bc its impossible in so many ways but i think he hates the fact that being king means hes moved even further above them on the social ladder)
BUT ANYHOW ANYHOW lets get to the juicy bits. the engagement bits. i have my own take on this that differs from urs a little bit momo but i think urs is soso good and nice and romantic… and i agree on a lot too!! specifically this ohhh u get him soso well!!
behind playful comments he is indeed a smart man. after all, he was raised to become this.
(…)
(and that this can also be negative for his knight, right? he cannot risk losing the power and privileges he owns, how would he be able to protect them? he must play the game as is.)
^ i agree soso much!!!! i think prince!gojo is very very clever, he enjoys acting goofy and has a very genuinely silly side but i do think hes both intelligent and mature. especially when it comes to politics, both for the sake of his own sense of duty AND what you said — for the sake of knight!reader!! they’re his motivation to become king in the first place, so i don’t see him doing anything that’ll cause too much of a stir; but at the same time… he gets away with a lot.
i do think rejecting his fiancee completely as a prince might be too much (his parents let him do as he pleases for the most part, but theyre not fun to deal with when they start to feel threatened lol), but once hes become king… well.
i think you’re right, momo!! he chooses to lead the nation on his own, with no queen by his side — only one very loyal knight.
(on the topic of heirs though since thats kind of connected to this… obviously his decision causes quite a stir. who will lead the kingdom when hes gone? a king with no firstborn — how scandalous. and so on.
but satoru doesn’t care. he continues to live his life, do his duty. visiting villages, dealing with neighouring countries… and, well. maybe one day he happens to run into a particularly clever assassin, with a scar on his bottom lip, escaping by the skin of his teeth and thanks to his knight — and, who knows? maybe said assassin, bleeding out, murmurs something about a child, a run-down building, a young life soon to be lost… and maybe satoru finds said child. maybe he even feels compelled to look after him, just for a while, because that unruly hair and those guarded eyes remind him a bit too much of a certain someone.
and if satoru grows fond of said boy, if he raises him as a candidate for the throne, but with an understanding and sympathy that he never received himself — then that’s no one’s business but his own.)
my bad i got carried away PHDKFJFJ back to the topic at hand. (i just needed to bring gumi into this narrative hes my special little boy ALSO maybe just maybe suguru finds an orphaned boy in the woods w pink hair who he takes in and raises as a knight hmmmm.. wonder what that’s all about…..) SORRY IM SORRY theres. so much to think abt when it comes to this au…………..
but anyways. i think satoru abolishes the marriage the moment he becomes king — but until then hes polite, well-mannered, maybe even a tad friendly w his fiancee. just to make it easier for the both of them. he does however make it very, very clear that this is a business partnership in his mind — its not a marriage of love, it never will be. and he’s firm about it. he has no intention of leading her on.
i think he might even go as far as to say his heart belongs to someone else (hes giggling on the inside bro gets butterflies at the thought of belonging to his knight in any way shape or form), with no specifics since he doesnt want to get knight!reader into any kind of trouble with the royal court.
but yes!! this is where i think our takes differ a bit (not at ALL a bad thing i just need to make that clear!!) bc i dont rlly see knight!reader being jealous!! i see their relationship with satoru as very comfortable, w a strong sense of understanding between them. it isnt entirely romantic or entirely platonic — if i had to put it in simple terms i’d just call them soulmates. they were born to save each other. and i think both of them understand that! knight!reader is well aware that satoru doesnt feel a single thing for his fiancee, because he makes it so clear that no one has a place at his side except for knight!reader themselves. so in that sense i dont see that uncertainty appearing!! i think the only one between them who feels frustrated is satoru.
and gojo's so annoyed and he wishes the whole building would just collapse and burn with everyone in it. <- THIS IS SOOOO CANON TO ME BTW i think that when ppl are being annoying around the castle a tiny voice in his head is like ”i hope this building fucking explodes” PHDNDBD HES SO DRAMATIC…. but in this case i think hes just so frustrated, especially if his fiancee/parents make the whole engagement more troublesome than it has to be.
on that note i just gotta mention;
and there knight!reader is, not so far away, shining only for his eyes. prince!gojo looks at them like begging for forgiveness, help, love and sadness all together while the lady by his side tries to get his attention. it's pathetic, he thinks. <- GOD THIS ONE GOT ME THIS ONE GOT ME GOOD momo pls stop im in agony </3 ohhh the way his eyes reflect his soul those sad sad puppydog eyes ☹️☹️ i would fold instantly
so in simple terms!! i think knight!reader and toru feel very at home in their dynamic. i dont think knight!reader would mind at all if satoru got a fiancee — if she made him happy i think they’d even grow fond of her. theyre just very kind and accepting, and dedicated to their prince’s happiness above all else. (but, of course, satoru’s happiness only ever lies with them 😔 stupid silly dense knight.)
BUT THE KISSSS OHHH THE KISS MOMO…. i see your vision so SO clearly. i picture their kiss by the riverbank like this too — satoru does it w/o thinking overcome by fondness and hes all giggly and giddy after. hes just happy to be alive PDJJDFJ 100% goes for a forehead kiss right after bc his heart is just bursting at the seams and his favorite person ever is right there in front of him!! all blushy and unsure!!! ohhh hes OBSESSED momo u get it ofc u do… ur version of events is so lovely and sweet!! i can really picture is so vividly!!
ANYWAY that was so fun pls never apologize, i lovelovelove long asks like this!! it was such a treat to read!! <33 IM BRINGING U A BIG CAKE TOO tysm for blessing us w this 🎂 (lets share it hehe 🍰🍰) (+ extra piece for mickey in case they see this here u go mickey 🍰)

I HEAR WEDDING BELLS, BUT THEY’RE NOT MINE

What good is an unloyal Knight?
Izumi ponders this as he kneels by the training ground, grass tickling the bare skin of his palms. He’s not wearing his gloves today, despite the fact that it’s getting frosty out. He’s always run cold, there’s no need for him to hide from it.
“Hey.”
Izumi doesn’t bother to look up. He knows it’s you. He always knows when it’s you. He thinks he could recognise you blind, from the lilt of your voice alone.
You plop down onto the grass next to him, uncaring of the way dewdrops splash against you. The material of your clothes is some of the finest in the nation. Made with beautiful lace embroidery, floral patterns weave their way across your bodice and ruffled sleeves, a vivid garden blooming against your skin. Leo-kun always did like to spoil you a little too much… Yet you seem unconcerned when the cream white fabric brushes against the dusty earth, possibly staining it. “Izumi-chan’s frowning again?” You make an exaggerated pout with your features, a mockery of his grim expression. “Izumi-chan is always frowning, though. What happens if your face gets stuck like that?”
He rolls his eyes at you and you giggle. “Y/N, you’re so~ annoying.”
“I know. You always say that. So tell me, tell me.” You place a hand on his knee, smiling gently. Even through the double layers of cloth, his pants and your gloves, his skin burns at the contact. He supposes it’s true what they say–love sets you alight. But if you’re not careful, it can burn you up into ash. “What’s wrong?”
“Why do you think something’s wrong?” Izumi knows he’s deflecting, okay? And he knows you know too. But as always, you’re too kind to prod at something when he’s clearly uncomfortable. You’ve always been this way.
It’s a part of why he loves you.
You never try to push him into doing things. You always let him go at his own pace, while staying by his side like a (not-so) silent supporter. Even when he first Manifested his magic… Those deadly shards of ice, the ones that spiralled outwards like a barrage of frostbitten daggers at every surge of emotion that was too much for him to fully contain… No matter how many people he hurt, be it with his deadly ice or his even deadlier tongue, and yet you were always there–with bandages and healing salves from the local Apothecary and your gentle hands and soothing words.
“Izumi.” No honorifics, no teasing Izumi-cha~an, just his name. Plain and simple. His eyes flicker up to yours, unbidden. Because you called him. And who is he to deny you when you look at him like that? Your facial expression hasn’t changed outwardly but your eyes are sad.
He’s familiar with that kind of sadness.
It’s the look you’ve reserved for him, and him alone. During his apprenticeship, when everything was going wrong–Leo-kun, and the War, and Tenshouin, and Leo-kun, Leo-kun, Leo-kun–you always had that expression whenever you were around him.
Seeing him close himself off to the world, strangely reminiscent of a flower curling in on itself as though it could prevent the deadly hands that reached to tear its silky petals off… He hates that he's always the one making you feel like that.
“Yes?”
“You asked me why I thought something was wrong, no? Well, for starters, you’re sitting outside all alone. Why? There’s a party going on inside.” Yes, he’s well aware. He can hear the raucous noise from out here. “And didn’t Leo ask you to be his best man?”
That’s exactly it, though. Leo-kun asked him to be his best man. And Izumi tried, okay? He tried so fucking hard but guilt kept eating him up inside and bile kept rising in his throat and he felt like he might just spill his guts and his feelings onto the altar, for everyone to see and he just. He couldn’t do that. Not to anyone, not to Leo-kun, and especially not to you.
But you’re looking at him with those doe eyes, soft and full of concern and his heart skips a beat. For a second, he considers maybe telling you. All those words that he’s swallowed up over the years, never letting them slip, keeping them as tightly locked up as he can and he opens his mouth to tell you: I love you, I love you, I love you–
“Wahahaha! Sena! I knew Y/N would find you ☆!” Izumi’s heart sinks at the sound of those familiar cackles. When Leo-kun’s bottlebrush orange head appears, followed by the rest of his body, the first thing Izumi’s King does is wrap an arm around your waist. And you? You brighten at the contact.
“Leo! Yes, I found him. But he wanted to say something…?”
“...” Izumi shakes his head. He can’t do this. There’s no point. So what if he can’t have you. He can still be your friend. He’s honestly okay with that. As long as you’re in his life, and you’re happy. That’s all that matters, really. “It’s fine. We should go inside. What would the guests say if the most important members of the party are missing?”
“Right as always, Sena!” Leo-kun grins, skipping on ahead after a moment of silent communication with you.
You turn to him, an eyebrow raised. “‘We’? Does that mean you too, Izumi-chan?”
He gives you a faintly sardonic smile. “Of course. It’s your wedding, after all.”

Diabolik Lovers LOST EDEN ー Ruki Dark [01]
Tumblr media
CHAPTER MASTERLIST
ー The scene starts in the guest room at Eden
*Rustle*
Yui: ...I can’t sleep.
( Eden...Such a lonely place this is... )
( I am sure it was wonderful in the past, but now that it has fallen to ruin, not even a shred of its past glory remains. )
( It pains even me to see it like this, so I am sure it must be even more painful for Ruki-kun and his brothers... )
Haah...Wait, I shouldn’t get all gloomy as well.
( ...Right. I still have this book I borrowed from Ruki-kun, don’t I? I guess I’ll read a bit to distract myself. )
*Flip*
Yui: I wonder what it’s about? I’m excited.
*Flip*
*TIMESKIP*
Yui: No way...Uu...
( I can’t believe the knight died in the arms of his beloved right after they got together... )
???: ーー Why are you crying?
Yui: Eh...?
Ruki-kun...
Ruki: What’s wrong? If something painful happened, try and talk to me about it.
Yui: Ah! T-That’s not it. I was reading the book you lent me the other day...
Ruki: I see. I suppose you ended up sympathizing...with the characters who appear in the story, correct?
I see. That definitely sounds like you.
Selection
→ It’s strange... (M)
Yui: It’s strange for me to get this emotional...
Ruki: That’s not true. Besides, I’ve known you are that kind of person for quite some time.
→ Not always? (S)
Yui: Not always?
Ruki: Why are you trying to act tough? Even if you try and make up excuses to me, I can see right through them.
Yui: Uu...
Ruki: I should have come here sooner. Then you wouldn’t have had to cry here all by yourself.
Yui: It’s fine...Thank you.
Ruki: However, I don’t want to see you cry. I shall take responsibility and dry those tears.
ー Ruki moves closer
Ruki: Yui...Nn.
Yui: Eh...!?
Ruki: Pfft. ...Your tears taste sweet for some reason.
Yui: That doesn’t make sense. They say that tears are salty after all...
Ruki: You doubt my words? Then you should confirm for yourself.
Yui: ( Eh...? )
Ruki: Nn...
Yui: ...
( I can’t tell whether they taste sweet or not...! )
Ruki: ーー How’s that? Do you believe me now?
Yui: Geez...You could have just wiped them away like a normal person.
Ruki: What’s the issue? Let’s just say I wanted to kiss you.
Yui: ...!
( I can’t be mad at him when he smiles at me like that. )
ー Ruki steps back
Ruki: ーー So? Which part made you cry?
Yui: Let’s see. The scene where the knight dies in the arms of the heroine.
When I tried to imagine what it’d feel like to lose the person you love, my heart ached...
Ruki: ...Lose your beloved, huh?
Yui: Yeah. The scene really drew me in, it made me feel sad as weーー
Ruki: ...
Yui: Ruki-kun...?
Ruki: Aah, no...It’s nothing.
Yui: ( His expression says otherwise but...Wait, ah...! )
Did you recall Karlheinz-san perhaps...?
Ruki: ...Good grief. At times you are unbelievably slow-witted, aren’t you? It’s troubling.
Yui: ...You can grieve and cry as well, you know?
Ruki: No, I won’t cry. I wouldn’t be able to ever face that man again if I were to shed tears in front of you.
Yui: Ruki-kun...
Ruki: I’m standing here right now, all thanks to him. I want to express my gratitude towards the opportunities that were given to me and live life with a positive outlook on the future.
I believe that will be the best way for me to process his death.
Yui: ( Ruki-kun is so strong...However, I’m a little worried that he won’t rely on me more. )
...Hey, if there’s anything I can do, don’t hold back, okay?
*Rustle*
Ruki: Then...Won’t you give me your blood?
Yui: Eh?
*Rustle*
Ruki: ...I’m sorry, don’t say anything. Nnh...Nn...
ー Ruki bites her
Yui: ( His fangs are thrusting deep into me...Even though he is sucking more slowly than usual, the spot he’s biting me feels scorching hot... )
Ruki: I suppose it is also thanks to him, that I am able to experience your warmth like this right now...
Yui: ( I wonder why? It almost looks as if he is crying. )
( As if he’s compensating the tears...by sucking my blood...something like that... )
( I wonder if I’m just imagining things? But if my blood helps him take his mind off things... )
*Rustle rustle*
Yui: Ruki-kun...You canーー have some more, you know?
Ruki: Hm? ...What’s this? You’re being surprisingly bold today? Are you aching for it?
Yui: No. That’s not it...
( I hope my blood can help comfort him. That’s how I look at it. )
Ruki: I understand. In that case, I shall suck to my heart’s content. To help remind myself that I am a Vampire. Nn...
Yui: ( I hope...he can share some of his emotional pain with me. )
ーー TO BE CONTINUED ーー

Ch 114 Thoughts
OMG. THIS CHAPTER IS FANTASTIC. It only adapted around 1 novel chapter, so the second half was fantastic as it’s slowed down and took its time. The paneling is SUPERB. AHHHHH. ignoring the fact that they might skip a lot of stuff next chapter, because it’s pure Rupert’s POV. But again, as a reader, I take what I can get from this adaptation. Anyways, The first half is super interesting, because despite the words being the same as the novel, the context in the manhwa is significantly different, because of how it gives readers a visual. I say there’s a difference, because when I read the novel version, i was basically thinking “awww, I don’t like lehan so far, he’s kinda slow, but I’m glad he finally decided to stop being a puppet and help Rupe/Lali out because he realized he messed up” - I completely thought the story was trying to redeem him as a good guy. Meanwhile, the MANHWA suggests a different situation: From the lines they chose to adapt, the panels of Lari being uncomfortable, of her repeatedly trying to get away, from her not allowing him to hold her hand as before, from him mentioning Amanda - it all comes across as him trying to GUILT her into letting him/House Belois back into her life. Lari made it absolutely clear she wants nothing to do with him, but she then changes her mind and says she’l re-consider once Rupert’s position has stabilized. Lehan picks up on this, and then suggests he become Rupert’s escort because he thinks he’ll earn Lari’s favor back that way, instead of genuinely wanting to help Rupert for Lari’s sake. (There’s a difference!!). he’s also doing this weird thing where he keeps on saying he’ll protect her forever, as if he has some kind of savior complex??? She doesnt’ want your help or protection?? She’s fine without you?? The KR comments are absolutely hilarious: This is round 3 (?) of them absolutely hating on Lehan, how he’s so rude, barging into Lari’s life, still likes her as a woman, is a stubborn mule that does what he wants. He’s the reason why Rupert is suffering right now, he’s super annoying etc. (I was hoping to see more Rupert comments but all well).
So when readers read this chapter: form your own opinion on Lehan: is he an annoying, stubborn, dense person who still likes Lari, or his he a guy who’s trying to make amends with those he wronged?
(I’m jumping ship, I will continue to think negatively of him HAHAH)
I am just LOVING how Lari refuses to let him touch her anymore too, heeeeeeee.
—- The second half of the chapter is absolutely amazing for me. For the past week i was thinking that there’s a 50% chance Rupert would have eye bags (because he’s exhausted/missing her, and not sleeping well) and 50% not having eye bags (because novel says he was sleeping well because that’s how he can see lari - in his dreams). BUT IM SO HAPPY WITH THE EYE BAGS. Manhwa Rupert even said it: He’s trying to sleep more so he can see her in his dreams, but it’s only sometimes when he does, AND HE CAN’T REST WELL ANYWAYS SINCE SHE’S GONE. AAAAAAHHHHHH. RUPERTTTTT T_T But yes, 2-3 months later, Rupert is still a mess trying to cope from losing Lari. Just like her, can’t eat, can’t sleep. He’s able to do work decently well, but he just misses her THAT much. I LOVE the panel they added in from chapter 62, where Rupert asked her what it means to be “sad” and how she would feel if her family was hurt or died - this is the SECOND time this panel has been added into the manwha (the first was when Rupert took pity on the Belois knights when the carriage was destroyed). Again, even if Rupert doesn’t look like he took her seriously, he still listened carefully to everything she said, and took it to heart. This drives the point that TL2’s House Belois was NEVER in any real danger. Lari was 12 when she regressed; that scene in Chapter 62 happened when she was 14 and a half; she’s 16/17 now. She didn’t realize that Rupert had chosen to protect them on her behalf for a good 3 years now. She’s been that important to him for so long already. Novel detail: he knew they were preparing treason, so his solution was to keep a close eye on them, make sure his own defenses were stronger, and if they did attack, to suppress them in a way where NO ONE would get hurt, and toss the Count in jail, alive. If anything, he would not allow them to die or get hurt in the scuffle.
The way Lehan told Rupert that he wants to help him out as a Knight escort this time, for some reason, comes across as extremely fake in the manhwa, based on the paneling. Rupert’s in despair at Lari’s absence, and here Lehan is, waltzing in and saying he wants to do something for her, *when he was the one who caused this mess*. I LOVE this paneling, of how Rupert points out that it was Lehan/House Belois’ fault for losing her - you can see his anger, jealousy, despair, tensed up pose —- aaaaa. He’s just THAT pissed off at Lehan, who DARES to show up in front of him?? I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the manhwa original panel of him saving her from the fire that was included here: In the novel, it was briefly described as “He lost his mind when he saw her lying there lifeless”, BUT OMG to have him cry without realization, and to hug her first?? OMG HE HUGGED HER FIRST, OFF SCREEN IN THIS SERIES. AHHHHHHHH. The last panel, with Lehan’s expression is kinda strange. At first I thought it was trying to show him being sneaky/tricking him (which would be not consistent with future novel events), but I think it’s him giving a small smile/laugh as he realizes that the glorious Emperor of the Empire… is basically just sitting there, super jealous at him because he’s able to meet Lari. Rupert’s jealousy, is just that obvious. No chapter next week, it’s a scheduled break. 3 more chapters until S3 ends :(((((

Ahriman Sorcerer 1
The chaos train has no breaks!
Ew it’s the weird space wolves again Why don’t you guys hang out in your fancy coffee shop and maybe you’ll calm down
Annnnd yep time for more cannibalism Meanwhile Ahriman is having a nightmare about being chased by wolves King of infinite space etc
Tumblr media
So the first time I though this was a Magnus fragment in his brain Either that or tzeentch I was wrong but I don’t remember what was up lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is this about his Prospero trauma
Secure meeting place to plan stuff with your minions: your own brain
Tumblr media
Take a shot !!! Ignissssss is hereeee Ignis walks in and all the preps look at him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ahhh you know I missed the first time that he thinks that about the sword lol Ignis insults the dude and starts a fight Sanakht shows up to break things up Rip sanakht you were kind of fun
You know I completely missed this first time Ignis: huh somethings up with his aura Sanakht: he noticed he knows he thinks I’m a worm
more ominous foreshadowing kadin cannot remember his home
Tumblr media
uh??? This is Iobel but her first description was blue-eyed redhead. I mean contacts and hair dye are thing but. Odd.
Tumblr media
okay i'm trying to figure out the timeline because there's time travel shenanigans so, it mentioned it was "years ago" that the first ahriman book happened, or at least a specific conversation in it at least from Kadin's POV they ran into Iobel and co just outside Cadia this inquisitor conference is…happening directly after that
Tumblr media
spooky so the chained seer in the middle starts saying a list of names it's all people who are relevant to ahriman and boy it's a surprising list didn't expect to see the remembrancer trio from A Thousand Sons mentioned here also, hi khayon!
yooo that was sick back over to ahriman once again i find the logistics of chaos….lacking press x to doubt that they manage all this today: silvanus taunts the happy fun astraeos. astraeos strangles silvanus. do not taunt happy fun astraeos astraeos, don't strangle the navigator
Tumblr media
okay so we're…roughly 2k years out from the heresy assuming this is referring to the first black crusade
grey knights spooky
next chapter: ahriman commits war crime also see what i mean it kind of jumps from ahriman doing small scale stuff to straight up killing the biosphere of an entire planet just so there will be enough dead plant matter that he can hide surprise tool for later rubricae there it's a huge escalation and it kind of adds to the feeling of being disjunct from the previous book.
okay that's it bursts out of wall like kool aid man i need to chew on some warhammer furniture so
i'm gonna continue rereading ahriman and hopefully get more ignis tonight: ahriman contemplates the nature of light as he is about to commit war crime
Tumblr media
actually, this is kind of cool a) the fact that cinnamon still exists b) the fact that ahriman knows what it smells like i mean the boring answer is probably "they synthesized cinnamon" but i can think about growing cinnamon trees…
Tumblr media
oh! he's hanging out with Carmenta
Tumblr media
im sure this isn't foreshadowing anything bad okay so, are the cable swarming over her clothing then i guess so, Carmenta is the one person he confides in the one thing Ahriman doesn't have, is trust the only person he trusts to tell anything to is Carmenta, the one who betrayed him
IGNIS POV MY BELOVED so Ahriman gave the order but Ignis was the one who figured out how to do it and actually ran the whole thing (killing a planet)
and back over to Astraeos. time for the imperial inquisitors to torture him
okay so over with ahriman and
Tumblr media
squints suspicious at the timeline shenanigans
Tumblr media
TIRED SMILE not a sad smile but its cousin
okay we got a timeline! we are now currently at +2 years of lived time for Ahriman and Carmenta since killing the planet for someone who is supposedly dying, Carmenta doesn't seem to be doing worse than the last time we saw her? it has according to ahriman been "much longer" for the imperium since they killed the planet
Tumblr media
RIP Astraeos
okay more notes: ahriman apparently goes to meetings in his bare feet i sure hope your ship is in better condition than the harrowing's one or you're just asking to give yourself super tetanus huh ignis has hidden depths he's upset because it cost them three TS to kidnap Iobel
Tumblr media
for the record they could absolutely have grabbed Astraeos okay Hemellion POV the king of the world they killed that Ahriman spared and turned into a slave which again was weird.
Tumblr media
oh hey more blindness and light motifs (there have been more i just haven't quoted them)
Tumblr media
you gave me a life i never chose i wanna leave but the world won't let me go what it is and where it stops nobody knows (context: lyrics of Blindness by Metric. Actually that song has some relevance to this story)
Tumblr media
ANOTHER SAD SMILE take a shot ignis and sanakht team up! im sure this will end well (well. ignis will survive. at least.)
Tumblr media
anyways. i love iobel as a foil owo new psyker ranting about the sons of prospero iobel: ??? ack! ack! not the muscles!
Tumblr media
oh, okay, it was only one sentence seeing this, she casually threw aside a large rock also we got another descriptor of ahriman's eyes
Tumblr media
owo
Tumblr media
it's really too bad iobel couldn't become a long term opponent but then, well, ahriman is ahriman also hey! eye focus! (his eyes got a few more mentions) i just love all the eye/blindness/light/shadow that suffuses this trilogy
what are they coming together to say, in a story about hubris also, first book had a pretty clear character arc and story arc second book is unclearer since it's mostly outsider POV so, i am trying to pay attention oh another thing, this book is far less visceral than the first, in terms of violence and gore, everything is a lot more detached i guess part of this is probably because Ahriman is also getting more and more detached
ok time for Astraeos to be tortured for realsies this time or not. just the setup. WAIT IM CONNECTING THE DOTS kadin and astraeos' chapter being from a dark world, them doing their training in the dark…im connecting the dots… kadin making his chainsword go vrrr so he's not alone in the dark and quiet
Tumblr media
lmao ignis ignis tells a bunch of warlords that ahriman doesn't care about them
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ignis: i am going to get a good grade in smiling, something that is normal to want and possible to achieve (sanakht, later: i saw ignis smile and it was the most horrifying thing i'd ever seen and considering i'm a tzeentchian who was besties with lucius the eternal, that's a pretty high bar)
time for iobel to remember going to prospero and i said this when reading it original but i love how in wh40k the sins of the past are literally haunting the present like yeah it's ahriman's trauma but it's also a bunch of ghosts that are going to try and kill you not even going to get into characters literally weaponizing their trauma as magic emotion bombs
i'm actually going to use khayon as an example since it's a lot more clear cut in his case he's got ptsd from the burning of prospero, but also his literal trump card is a daemon he summons that was originally born from the albigensian crusade and the death and burning of civilians by the knights who were supposed to be protecting them there's a bit also where Lheor is like "some of us have figurative daemons possessing us and some of us have literal ones, it's really all the same" with respect to Kibre & co being possessed
what i like about it is that whatever else you might say about its metaphysics, the WH40k universe is one where your suffering actually matters it matters in a way that sucks, but it does matter! who knows if you die horribly a daemon might be born from it
;-; astraeos
Tumblr media Tumblr media
light and shadow again
Tumblr media
they took the light away
…this book also gets into ahriman's childhood and guilt complex over his brother. I think.
And hit image limit!
to be continued

Four Minus one: Fours got more secrets than most, and they’re not too keen to give them up to just anyone. Nothing about the smallest member of the Links is as it seems, but if the right person asks, at just the right time, they may just unravel a little bit more of the puzzle.
Chapter one- Come Back With a Warrant: Despite being warned that all was not what it seemed with the hero of this era the Links are still in for more surprises than they bargained for. Convincing them to join will prove to be a whole side quest, and the surprises will not stop there. im finally posting it! chapter two is mostly done, will be ready by next saturday, and the chapter im posting the saturday after that is done, so i think its safe to say that i can have an, at least mostly, consistent schedule for the time being!
Time was concerned that they had gotten the wrong house, and judging by the shuffling of some of his companions he wasn't the only one. The windows were dark despite it being early evening, the garden was starting to become overtaken by weeds and overgrowth, and there was a sign on the door to the forge saying that the owners were out of the country for business. Had the Princess Zelda of this era not sent them here herself, he would assume they had been sent here on a wild cucco chase. However, as it stood, the Princess's warning of "All is not as it seems," was making more sense by the second. Whatever the reason for their newest companion to leave his house in such a state, it was not because it was vacant. No noise could be heard from in the house as the group approached, but Wild perked their ears, telling Time that there must be something inside. The unspoken leader of the group finished the walk up the slightly overgrown path and knocked on the door, waiting a few moments before knocking again, slightly louder.
A few moments later movement could be heard from inside, and a slightly raspy voice called out, “Coming! Coming,” A pause as the door swung open and a young boy, looking no older than twelve or thirteen opened the door, “Whatever the Princess sent you for had better be important, I have a lot of work to do.” He looked up and Time was able to see the boy's face clearly. He had eye bags that could rival the vets, his hair was in a messy braid, and he was very pale. Hell, if the older Link didn’t know any better, between the boy’s appearance and the state his home was in, Time would swear this boy was a ghost. “You lot don’t look like knights? Did Do- er, Princess Zelda send you? Or are you here for the forge? It's closed at the moment I'm afraid.”
Time wasn’t sure who exactly this boy was, he looked younger than Wind, and though Time knew age was no determining factor on how capable a hero was, he hoped for his sake that this boy was not Link. A relative perhaps. Younger brother, or son, hopefully. He cleared his throat and went into business mode regardless. “We are not knights, we are traveling heroes, looking for the hero of this land, to ask him for assistance in defeating a great evil. Her Royal Highness, Princess Zelda, was kind enough to give us directions here. If Link is here we would greatly appreciate an audience with him, to discuss the matter at hand.”
The pleasant, but all business smile Time gave the boy was met with a scowl, and the older hero watched as several emotions ranging from anger, to sadness, to regret, and finally determination settled on the boy's face. “I am very sorry, but you have been misled, Link is dead.” And leaving no room for further discussion on the matter he shut the door in Times face.
There were a few moments of awkward silence before Legend coughed out a laugh, and spoke up. “Well then, I’d say that went well. Damn I really wish I had thought of that one when you lot came to pick me up.”
Hyrule raised an eyebrow at her, as they turned. "What do you mean by that?"
“Well, that was definitely Link, yea?” Sky pondered in response.
Time sighed, leading the group back the direction they came, towards the castle. “I’d say so, yes. He looked young, and tired, I don’t blame him for turning us away.”
“What’s the plan now then? Go talk to Princess Zelda again?” Twilight was practically  dragging Wild away as he spoke, the younger not wanting to give up so easily.
"Well, she did warn us that this might be a difficult task,” Warriors matched stride with Time at the front “Maybe we have to find a way to convince him ourselves.”
Hyrule hummed in thought. "What if he really is dead? What if he's a ghost?"
"Then I vote we leave the poor kid alone. Hylia knows that when it's all over for me I have no intention of doing more work. Let me, or in this case, him, rest."
Wind shook his head at Rulie and Legend. "No, he wasn't a ghost. Although I think I can second that notion."
"Agreed." Twilight gave his mentor a pained look as Time spoke up. "The only thing that should come for the dead is rest."
“Excuse me! Young men!” The group's heads turned towards the voice, and they were met with a castle guard, looking to be in his early forties, on a horse that looked suspiciously like Epona. He slowed his stead to a stop alongside Time and Warriors. “Ah good. Hello! The Princess informed me there was a group of young Heroes looking for Link.”
“Yes, that would be us. Time.” Time moved to take the stranger's outstretched hand to shake.
“Are you him? We were led to believe we would be unsuccessful in finding him.”
The man chuckled, a fond smile gracing his lips. “I’d bet you where. But no, I am not Link. I am their father, Jol. Her Majesty's Head Guard. I do wonder what excuse my child gave this time. They are very busy with something, and would rather not step away if it’s not official business.”
“They told us, and I quote, ‘Link is dead’ and then shut the door in the old man's face.” Legend bumped her shoulder against Times arm as she spoke.
“Ah, a classic I see. They’ve tried using it on a few of the other guards,” Jol sighed, “As if those men didn’t all either help me raise them, or grew up with them themselves.” He looked over the whole group. “Interesting party you’ve got going on here though. Tell me, what exactly do you need Link for? Hylia knows they don’t need my permission to save Hyrule, again, but they won’t leave their current project without some kind of official order, so you might as well get it from me.”
Warriors spoke up this time, nudging Legend back out of the way as he did. “This may seem a bit strange.”
“I have seen Link do plenty of strange things at this point, I doubt you could truly shock me.”
“My name is Link, but all the heroes behind me call me Warriors. We are all heroes, from different eras, pulled together through time itself to stop a great threat to Hyrule.” Warriors paused to gauge Jol’s reaction, and to his credit the man seemed to be taking it well, save for a raised eyebrow. “We hope for the extra assistance your Link could lend us, but if they truly do not wish to come there is nothing we could, or would be willing to do, to make them. It is solely their choice.”
Jol sighed, and nodded his head back towards the house they had come from before encouraging his stead back into a walk. “Choices and orders be damned, they are a hero through and through. Once they actually hear you out they will be packing their bags before I can even get my two rupees into the conversation. Tell me honestly though, is this to do with Vaati?”
Wind tilted his head to the side. “Who’s Vaati?”
It was Legend who responded however. “Your child is the Hero of the Four Sword then? Fought Vaati three times before they finally managed to kill the mage. You must be early in Hyrule’s history.”
Jol’s answering smile didn’t quite reach his eyes, but he nodded nonetheless. “Yes. I am glad to hear this doesn’t seem to have anything to do with him. Link lost something very dear to them during their last fight, and I’d hate to know they’d have to face him again knowing it's still gone.”
Arriving back at the house Jol tied his horse to the fence before leading his guests into his kids house. There was light in the living room now, the fireplace and a few lanterns having been lit. They could hear shuffling in the kitchen and the young boy called out as soon as the door closed behind them. “Welcome back. Since father has deemed you trustworthy, feel free to sit anywhere. How many of you are there?”
Time herded his rascals into the sitting area as he responded. “Including your father, there are nine of us. I hope we aren't overcrowding you.”
“Nine? Hylia, there are eight of you.” The last part was mumbled out and hard to hear over the sound of pottery clinking together, as the newest Link stepped out with a tea tray with enough cups to accommodate everyone. “Might as well have invited all of Hyrule town. Again.”
Jol cleared a spot on the coffee table for Link to set down the tea.“Please, help yourselves. Now,” He turned back to his child, “I know you are busy, but would you at least hear these nice young heroes out?”
Link sat down on the armchair nearest the exit, carefully moving the large book that had prevented any of the others from sitting there. “No, because if I hear them out then I have to go with them. You know this.”
There was a hearty chuckle from Jol, and this time his smile did reach his eyes. “The floor is all yours.”
Time nodded in thanks, and set down his tea. “As I stated the last time we spoke, We are traveling heroes, looking for the hero of this land for their assistance in defeating a great evil. What we did not have time to explain is who we are. I am Link, the Hero of Time. The others call me Time, or Old Man, to keep things from being confusing, as we are all named Link. Something is pulling us together from different points in Hyrule’s history. We do not know fully what threat we are up against yet, but it appears someone has decided we are all needed to stop this.”
There was silence as Link seemed to study Time, trying to decide if he was telling the truth or not. Finally, with a nod and large sigh, they stood. “Well that certainly explains why that one seems to be wearing a sailcloth similar to our founder's prized garment. I’m guessing that’s not a replica.” When Sky nodded in affirmation they spoke again, “And is it safe to assume your problem has something to do with these portals that have been plaguing our neighbors?”
“The very same. One of them brought us here as well.” Warriors agreed with the young hero. With all the confirmation they needed, Link turned around and headed for the stairs.
There were a few murmurs of confusion, mostly from Wind, Wild, and Hyrule, but Jol quickly put them at ease with a smile. “Well, that went well. Give them a few moments to pack the things they don't keep ready to go.”
Hyrule caught Wind's teacup as the sailor doubled over in laughter. “Man! I thought you guys were kidding about how fast they would change their mind!” Several other Links joined in his laughter, excited to get to know their newest companion.
It really hadn't taken long for their newest companion to pack their things, and with them ready to go they quickly made introductions, Link quickly and easily accepted the nickname Four, taken from the hero title Legend had identified them with earlier. They wished their father farewell, asking him to deliver the news of what they were off to do to Princess Zelda and some other friends of theirs while cleaning up the tea set. After leading the others out and locking up the house they took stride next to Time, easily keeping up with the other despite their much smaller stature.
“So,” Twilight took place right behind them, with Warriors to his left, “Where we off to kid?”
“I guarantee you I am not as young as you think.” Time was the only one who could see Four glaring ahead of him at the comment, but they continued on regardless. “And as for your question, you lot said this is something to do with those portals, so we are heading to where the largest concentration of them have been. We’ve even seen a few strange monsters come out of the ones in this area.”
Warriors clapped Twilight on the shoulder as a few of the others snickered at the rancher getting told off behind them. “A wise decision, it will be good for us to see what kind of force our enemies are showing here. How much they are willing to spread to each era they invade will give us a good idea of how much they have in total, since they are clearly not just sticking to the monsters that belong in the given era.”
“Plus, now that we’ve found the hero, it’s time to get to the next portal again.” Wind wove his way up from the middle to be standing in the very front, so he could walk backwards, hands on the back of his head, looking right at Four as he spoke. “The portals don’t usually let us stick around too long after we’ve found the hero.”
Four grinned and raised an eyebrow. “So what you’re telling me is I should warn you before you trip backwards into one.”
Wind practically tripped over himself as he darted forward to avoid walking backwards into a portal, turning around as his companions all started to laugh, to see there was no portal behind him. “Hey! What the fuck man!” Wind imagined the glare he tried to send Four was lessened by the laugh in his own voice, but when he realized their newest companion was silent laughing with tears welled up from the force of it he let it slide. This time. But only because it was cool to see the newest Link fitting in so well already. Especially considering how worn out and miserable they had looked when they had first shown up.
“Sorry, sorry.” Four composed themself a little, and wiped a tear from their eye. ”That stance just reminded me of a…  friend of mine. I Couldn’t resist.”
“One of the out of the country friends your father is going to notify?” Time inquired, a small grin still on his own face.
Four nodded with a chuckle. "Yes. He's part of the Royal Guard, out with a few others on official business. I've been keeping the group informed on the portal situation, in case it becomes more dire and we need them back. You lot talked to Princess Zelda, so you saw the state the castle is in. It's been just over a year and we're still rebuilding from Gannon and Vatti's last attack, another attack would call for all hands on deck."
“And now you’re leaving.” Warriors noted. “So you asked your father to notify them so they can come back?”
Four shook his head. “By the sounds of the last letter I got from them they should already be on their way back. It sounded like they were close to resolving the problem. I just didn’t want them to be surprised when they came home and found me gone again.”
“Do they live with you?” Wind was back to walking backwards, confident that his team would let him know if there really was a portal behind him.
Four’s steps stuttered for just a moment. “How’d-”
“Well the sign, on the forge, says the owner is out of the country for business.” Wind tilted his head in a shrug.
“Oh.” Four paused for a moment. “No, that's because I was meant to go with the group. Heroes duties and all that. But then the portals started showing up, and the Princess decided someone should stay behind to watch after them, so here I still am. I never took the sign down because I am far too busy, and I am technically out a lot checking on them, so I saw no point in changing the phrasing.”
Warriors nodded in understanding. “No one would come bother you but for official business with the sign up?”
“That was the plan at least,” Four sighed, “Though plenty of people still tried.”
Wind laughed, it was unsurprising that even busy and supposedly out of the country people still wanted the hero for something. “Like us?”
“By my understanding this is official business.” Four smirked, They were already far too invested in this to turn back now. “Or should I turn back now and head home?”
“I think it may be just a little too late to turn back now, friend.” Time nodded to a portal that had opened up right in their path. It was new, and they would have to get off the road to avoid it, so it was pretty obviously meant for them to go through. Four frowned and walked towards it. “Hold on now.”
“Trust me, I’m being careful. But this one is different from the others.” They circled it, and hesitantly poked it. Satisfied with whatever they felt from it they pulled their hand back and rested it against their chin, mumbling something inaudible as they became deep in thought. There were a few odd looks from the group before Four’s head snapped up to look at them. “Are
the ones you use to travel through all like this?”
Most of the group continued to look confused, nothing seemed to be different from these ones and the others, but Twilight and Hyrule both nodded, and Rulie spoke. “I’ve noticed that too. The ones meant for us seem to have light magic clinging around the edges.”
“Even though the portals themselves are made with dark magic. Fascinating.” Four had pulled a journal off their side and started writing as they spoke. “Whoever is calling us all together is of light magic, they have just hijacked the portals whoever is causing this made. Likely because it was quicker or easier than trying to replicate it with light magic.”
Warriors quirked an eyebrow. “How can you guys tell?”
Four looked shocked, like they had not realized the others could hear them, but Twilight and Hyrule both spoke at once. “Quest thing.”
Four was relieved when the others all took that as an acceptable answer and nodded in agreement. “It is indeed a quest thing.”
“Oh! That’s right.” Hyrule turned now to Four. “We all have our traumas and secrets, unless it is one that may put the team at risk we will never push for an answer. I can’t promise that some of us won’t snoop.” Fae turned to look pointedly from Wind to Wild and then to, surprisingly, Legend. “But if you ever don’t wish to talk about something that happened before meeting us you can explain that it's a quest thing. We won't push. At least in the moment.”
There were nods of agreement as Sky spoke up. “We had a few disagreements back when it was just a couple of us before we came up with that rule.”
Legend snickered. “If by disagreements you mean full blown arguments. Some of us are more willing to discuss their travels than others.”
“Count me amongst the second group then.” Four hummed in thought. “You all seem nice enough, but we would be here a while if I was willing to discuss all three of my adventures with you. Hylia, the last one alone would take at least a week to explain.”
Four knew their new companions all thought they were younger then they actually are, so the shocked reactions were not unexpected, though Time not being surprised was a bit shocking. “If you don’t mind me asking, how old were you when you started? Some of the others were teenages, but a few of us were pretty young ourselves.”
Four thought about it for a moment, but Time seemed to be implying that he was one of the younger ones, so they felt that at least they wouldn't get judgment for it from the eldest Link. “Seven. But there was a bit of a break before my next one, at ten.” They paused to gadge reactions. “And the last one lasted a year, so it started a little over two years ago.”
Time nodded, still seeming to be the only one relatively unphased by this. “Well, at three adventures you’re in the running with me for catching up to Legend for most, but she’s still got us both beat at five. You do, however, have me beat for age. I had just turned nine on my first.”
Warriors, Four guessed one of the older ones during his quest, shook his head. “No. No way we are just brushing past them saying they where fucking seven on their first quest!”
“I think we are.” Four shrugged. They had definitely had enough time to come to terms with it over the years, and besides, only one so young could have worked with the Minish as they had.
Sky stepped forward, trying to disperse the tension, and motioned towards the portal that had been sat waiting for them all this time. “Well then, it seems it’s time for us to be off once again. Not that there is anything that can be done now, but are you ready Four?”
Four’s eyes were shining with a curiosity that seemed to be completely overriding whatever had them upset when the group had gotten to their house, and they nodded as they restashed their book in its holster. “I am ready.”
“That’s the spirit!” Twilight clapped Four on the back as he and Wild made their way to the portal.
“The hero's spirit.” Time chuckled. “We normally buddy up, Knowing Wind he wants to go with you now.”
“Aw man!” Wind did walk over and take Four’s hand. “Time you’re taking all the fun outta calling dibs!”
Four looked shocked at how direct Wind was, but chuckled as Time began to speak again. “Right. So I will be accompanying you two. Twilight has Wild. Legend, I know you’ll be going with Hyrule. Warriors and Sky, is that alright?”
The two nodded and Warriors’ “Perfectly fine” mixed with Sky’s “Sounds perfect, thank you.”
Four Smiled as their new friends lined up to enter the portal. They were by no means a well-oiled machine, but they had fallen into a rhythm that clearly worked for them, and had this been a few years ago Four would feel out of place in it. Indignant of it even. Upset that fate was forcing them to play the part of a single part of a larger team. Now, however? Today they smiled, Time on one side and Wind on the other as they entered a portal. They were doing this with a team by their side. Fellow heroes. Friends. Family, perhaps. They were home.
