We’re Adopted?!?
When Bruce’s kids end up on the Watchtower due to a set of unforeseen circumstances, Jason first tries to get the League to believe that they’re all biologically related to Bruce. He tries to avoid having Jason give everyone a sex talk by reminding him that he’s adopted. This leads to all his kids pretending that this is the first time they’ve heard of it, much to the horror of the League and the exasperation of Bruce.
Based on this post.

It finally happened. After years of successfully keeping the League from finding out about all the kids he has, they’ve finally met. And in the most dramatic way too. In a way it’s very suited for their family, but that is a detail Bruce had hoped to keep from the League.
However, it happens anyway and now his two teams have met.
They’re sitting in the common area of the Watchtower when the Zeta-Tube suddenly whirs to life and the Batmobile comes crashing into the area. It spins to a stop as if it had been in the middle of a chase, before the teleporter snatched them off the streets.
Bruce gets out of his chair and makes his way over. He isn’t too worried about them, since they’re here and while that might have meant danger before, they are safe with him now. If one of them had been terribly injured or left behind, they would be screaming and yelling already and that isn’t happening yet.
His eyes meet Tim’s, who is standing next to the car, his costume a little singed, hair askew and looking a little worse for wear. Apologetically he greets: “Hi, Justice League, promise we have a good reason to be here.”
For Bruce, this is quite normal chaos and these are his kids, but he notices that the Justice League has formed a defensive barrier around the Batmobile. They perceive his kids as a threat. It’s so absurd that he is quiet for a moment.
In that moment, Superman steps forward and demands to know: “Who are you and how did you get up here?”
“With a car no less,” Hal adds, sounding a little impressed, which doesn’t make Bruce smug in the slightest, no sir.
He is about to tell everyone to stand down when the doors of the car open and his kids come spilling out. It’s a bit of a car clown moment with how many vigilantes fit inside.
Dick nearly falls out of the side, with Damian following after him. Both of them have soot in their hair and scratches on their faces.
A singed Jason stumbling out on the other side as he loudly complains: “This is the last time we’re letting Spoiler drive.”
Steph’s costume is a little flame tattered too as she swings open the driving side and says: “I’d like to see you do better, asshole. At least it wasn’t like Signal’s first driving attempt.”
“Hey,” Duke exclaims, coming out of the car after Jason, looking a little banged up. “Just because I didn’t know where the missiles were, doesn’t mean it was terrible.”
“I didn’t eject anyone,” Steph pouts.
“Yes, you did!” Duke exclaims. “You very much did.”
“Well, not by accident,” Steph argues. “It was part of the plan.”
The other front door is now open and Cass is next to him. He puts an arm around her and pulls her into his cape. Then he decides to step in, because it seems the League doesn’t know what to do when they’re not viewed as an authority.
“What happened?” he asks.
Six heads snap his way, as if his kids had forgotten where they were. It wouldn’t be the first time, so he doesn’t even bother rolling his eyes.
Tim reports: “The Riddler broke out of Arkham, along with like a bunch of b-rate villains. They caused havoc, but we rounded them all up. Riddler took the time it took us to round them up to set up his trap. He went with a fire theme.”
“Is he contained now?” Bruce asks, a little concerned.
“Yeah, no problem, B, we got ‘em,” Steph assures him casually with a thumbs up.
“Sorry, uhm, excuse me, Batman, do you know these people?” Clark asks in that awkward, polite way of his.
Bruce contemplates for a second what he should answer. Then decides that he wants to know what happened and doesn’t want to deal with questions. So he just says: “My associates. Now report, how did you end up here?”
“Associates,” Jason snorts.
However, he is ignored by his siblings as Damian reports: “We have caught the Riddler, however we did so without solving the last of his riddles. So, he sprang his trap after we took him down and we became the target of some missiles.”
“Oh my god, are you okay?” one of the League members exclaims under their breath.
“Tt, of course we’re okay,” Damian spits back. “Unlike you, we have been trained.”
“And we learned our lesson; always solve all of Riddler’s riddles,” Steph grins, giving them all a thumbs up.
“I already said that, but who listens to Red Robin? Nobody,” Tim complains.
Before it can turn into a squabble fest again, Bruce clears his throat and Dick jumps in to get them back on track, explaining: “We tried to get away in the Batmobile, but we couldn’t outrun it forever. So we decided the best way to escape was to use the Zeta-Tube connection.”
“It was great, Spoiler sent replacement flying so he could put in the code,” Jason laughs.
“I wanted to beam us to the Cave, but with the amount of time we had, just taking us to the most recently used coordinates was smarter,” Tim explains. He checks his arm computer then says: “The chatter on the police coms is that the missile made impact where we disappeared. No one was in the area when it went off, but there is property damage. And a few of the new recruits are convinced we’re supernatural, since none of our remains are being found.”
That last bit gets a few laughs from the assembled vigilantes. Most of Gotham PD have resigned themselves to the fact that the protectors of Gotham are humans, who seemingly pull of the impossible from time to time.
However, there are always newer members, who come up with great conspiracies about how they aren’t human and that’s why they pull it off. Bruce knows that it’s a bit of a game between his kids to see who can get them to believe the weirdest shit about them.
So, he just lets them have the moment of amusement after what must have been a highly tense moment.
Then he asks: “Where is Bluebird?” since he hasn’t seen Harper among the crowd, which is weird, because she’s on the night shift, while Duke is on the day shift.
“She the one, who figured out where Riddler was and caught him,” Dick says proudly. “She was escorting him to Arkham when she noticed he was being off. Without her we would’ve never made it to the Batmobile on time.”
Bruce makes a mental note to thank her for saving his other kids when he sees her.
“We also let Oracle know we’re okay, so she can inform her and Batwoman when she gets back from her mission, just in case she saw the news,” Dick goes on.
“Wait,” they get interrupted by Hal. “How many more heroes are you going to pull out of your sleeve? What happened to Mr. I Work alone? Am I being crazy here? Why are you all just standing there?”
Clark says: “Well, it’s obvious Batman knows these people and they do not seem like a threat to us, so I was going to wait until they’d given a report before demanding answers.”
“And we will demand answers, Batman,” Diana adds, making Bruce swallow a little. “We are your friends, we hoped there would be some trust there. You seem to have a whole different team of warriors. That is something you share.”
“Don’t mind, B, he just comes with permanently built in paranoia, it’s nothing against you,” Dick tells them.
In the background, Jason snorts: “Did you hear that guys? We’re his team of warriors. His associates.”
Damian huffs at that: “These imbeciles obviously do not know what they are on about and I refuse to be referred to as such, when I am the blood son.”
“I don’t know, Robin,” Steph laughs. “It almost starts to feel like he cares. I mean, he obviously has been bragging about us.”
“He has not spoken a word about us,” Damian exclaims.
In the background, Bruce can feel a headache coming. He has tried to keep his kids away from the League for their own safety. They can’t use his kids against him, should they become compromised, if they don’t know they exist.
However, they do know now and not only that, it seems like his kids are here to cause trouble on purpose now that they finally get to meet, who they refer to as, ‘his work friends AKA the only friends he has’. Delightful.
Indeed, the League has picked up on the words Jason set Damian up for, because Hal repeats: “Blood son?”
And Clark frowns: “They do seem quite young.”
“Batman, are you employing babes to protect Gotham with you?” Diana exclaims in horror.
“I am highly trained, who dares to call me a baby,” Damian protests immediately and while his siblings would usually laugh at him, they now also feel offended.
All of them have had to defend their age to people, including Bruce. They don’t like being questioned. So all of them are falling over themselves to defend their position as protectors of Gotham.
Bruce decides to help them, explaining: “There are more teen heroes, most of you have or had a sidekick. These vigilantes keep each other safe, they have the safety of back up and I also provide good gear. They’re not running around without a clue of what to do.”
“Ahww, I knew you cared, old man,” Steph coos, while Cass taps a genuine thank you in Morse code on his arm.
“Batman, I appreciate that you look out of them, but most sidekicks have had superpowers that are related to one of the heroes and sought out a mentor to help,” Clark says gently. “You have no powers, where did you get these kids?”
And in hindsight, he should have known better than to hesitate. However, at the times, he does, because the circus, the streets, the neighbor’s and some villains, are not really good answers to that question, no matter how true. And he doesn’t know if he wants to explain.
Still, he has to admit that he melts slightly when Cass speaks up to say: “His kids.”
Plus, it’s kind of funny how most League member jump out of their skin at the sudden voice, since none of them had spotted Cass before. Not even those with superhuman senses. His daughter is so talented.
Arguably the funniest reaction is Hal, who shrieks: “Where the fuck did you get these kids, Spooky!” as he violently startles backwards.
However, Jason jumps on the opportunity, sending Bruce a shit eating grin before he does (he might still be wearing the helmet, but Bruce knows him). He says: “Well, when two people love each other very much, they-”
No, just no. Absolutely not.
The League already thinks him to be a bit of a weirdo, who is steeped in paranoia. They respect him, but they’re always a little wary of him too (which is good in a way, he doesn’t want them close to his secret identity with the threat they could pose). Still, he doesn’t want them to think he practically bred an army of shadow-y vigilantes to protect Gotham. He’d never live it down.
“Hood,” he quickly cuts Jason off, before he can continue with his nonsense. Then he tiredly reminds him: “You’re adopted.”
“WHAT!” Jason shrieks, ripping his helmet off to reveal a shocked and betrayed face even with his domino mask. “How could you keep that from me?”
It seems like everyone needs a second to recover and process after the outburst. However, Jason is gaining steam and dramatically barrels on: “For years. Years! I lived with you, you fed me, you cared for me. You are my dad. At least you were. Was that all a lie? Some ruse? How- Why- I deserved to know.”
Bruce is shocked, unable to form words. His relationship with Jason has been rough, though getting better. It’s still tentative, though, so to hear Jason refer to him as dad throws him off in one of the best ways. Until he realizes Jason is fucking with him.
Even then, it is kind of nice that Jason is messing with him. When he looks, he sees that Jason is having fun under the mask of betrayal. It doesn’t have a bitter undertone, like it would have a few months ago. Instead, it feels a little like all the times Jason messed with him in front of Commissioner Gordon, back when he was Robin.
So, later Bruce will cut himself some slack for basking in that feeling for long enough that the others catch on and join in.
It starts with Steph, who has never claimed him as her father a day in his life, but will always be committed to a bit. She sniffles: “I can’t believe you’d lie to our brother like that. Soon you’ll tell us we’re all adopted.”
“Spoiler,” Bruce warns, hoping to deter anyone else from joining in.
That doesn’t happen, instead, Dick pulls Duke into a hug and exclaims: “Yeah, next you’ll tell us Signal here isn’t our half brother, like you didn’t leave his mother at the altar.” He narrows his eyes and adds: “I was the flower boy too, I can’t believe you did that to her.”
He sees Duke’s calculating gaze, flitting between Dick and himself and knows it’s only a matter of time before he picks a side, so he grunts: “Signal, don’t-”
“She talked about it until her death. Don’t tell me she made it up,” Duke suddenly says, picking the side of his siblings. Bruce would be more glad about him getting along with them, if it weren’t for the fact that in joining him, he left Bruce.
“You monster,” Jason butts back in again, not having had the spotlight in too long. “Look what you’ve done. You can’t just drop something like that on us. You can’t just pull the rug out from under us. Adopted. Or am I the only one? Huh? Is that it? Are all of them your real kids except for me?”
It’s a little too close to home, so Bruce stumbles: “No, of course, you’re always my kid. But this isn’t news to you. To any of you.”
“So we are all adopted?” Tim shrieks, stumbling forwards to clutch Bruce’s arm. “Those people you took me away from, were they my real parents? Did you lie to me?”
And this is just unfair. They’re not allowed to gang up on him like this and be dramatic. They know he doesn’t know what to do when they get like this. He gave them a home, he kept them as safe as he could, he loves them. What has he done to deserve this?
Dick and Duke are still embracing each other and Bruce is pretty sure Dick is weeping. Steph is definitely fake crying, while Jason is consoling her. Tim is still clutching his one arm, babbling about being taken from his parents.
Cass is his favorite right now, because she isn’t playing along with her sibling, just quietly huddling into his side. Damian would share the spot, but Bruce knows that the only reason he isn’t playing along, is because he doesn’t know what their game is and how he can use it to his advantage.
Indeed, he joins in – though not entirely purposefully – because he asks: “Father, I am your true son right? I am the blood son, not these imbeciles.”
Jason is definitely hiding a snort as a sob and in that moment, Bruce is tempted to disown Damian, just so he doesn’t have to deal with all this.
He can see how shocked the Justice League is, their eyes wide with horror, none of them having truly recovered at the sudden appearance at a gaggle of kids, who are now seemingly breaking down over the surprise news of being adopted.
He should’ve just let Jason give the League a sex talk.
So, he is tempted to not recognize Damian as his own, however, he knows how much Damian values his heritage and how insecure he is about his spot in the family. And he does look genuinely worried about what’s happening. So, Bruce has to sigh and reward the vulnerability that he shows with compassion, saying: “Yes, Robin.”
Jason lets out a pained groan and says: “So it is true? We really are adopted?” then breaks down crying. It’s almost impressive how well he can sob on demand. How well all of them can, Bruce wonders when they learned that and who taught them that.
The League, meanwhile has also apparently reached their limits and Hal suddenly explodes: “Fucking hell, Bats. Is that how you’re telling them that? What the fuck is wrong with you?”
Around him all the others start to nod in agreement and Bruce knows that some of those shaking shoulders of his kids aren’t sobs but laughter at this point. He wonders if it’s wrong to return any of them, despite knowing that he would never give any of them up, even with all the gray hairs they’re giving him.
He does think about it though, especially when Clark cautiously says: “It seems unnecessarily cruel, Batman. They’ve just been chased through the streets by missiles. You could have waited.”
“Yes, it is very cruel,” Diana agrees. “And I do not know you to be cruel.”
Usually, Bruce has an image to maintain, but that image includes him working alone and having no sense of humor or humanity, so obviously it’s incorrect. Besides, any reputation he might have had has just been ruined by his kids. He doesn’t have to take this judgment from his friends.
So, he throws his hands up and, bordering on a whine, says: “I’m not cruel. They all know they’re adopted. All of them were over nine when it happened. Hell, not even all of them are adopted. Not all of them wanted to be. They know! They’re just messing with me.”
It’s quiet after his outburst.
Both the League and his kids blink for a few times. It’s clear that the League doesn’t know what to believe, but his kids are luckily done with the chaos. Though, Bruce doesn’t know if he’s happy with that when he sees some of their faces morph into grins.
Dick decides to put him out of his misery first, letting go of Duke to skip forwards and sling an arm around Bruce, which he grudgingly allows. He never says no to hugs from his kids, no matter what stunt they’ve just pulled.
“He’s right,” Dick smiles at everyone. Then he jokingly tugs on one of the ears on his cowl – something he has done since his early days as Robin – as he teases: “He didn’t mind. Right, B? You are a softie under there.”
“Who cares if he minds,” Jason says loudly. “That was hilarious, did you see everyone’s faces when replacement told them he’d stolen him out of his home. Golden. I’m gonna ask O for that footage the second we get back.”
Now the League is looking at them with even more confusion. Unsure of what to do now.
Bruce wants to let them suffer, but he also doesn’t want to give his kids room to do something else to embarrass him. So, he takes the reigns saying: “Just to clear it all up; this is Nightwing, my oldest.”
“Hi, it’s nice to meet you,” Dick gives the League a bright smile.
“My second or third oldest – we’re not sure – Red Hood,” Bruce continues on, gesturing to Jason, who just gives them a salute. “And, again, the second or third oldest, Black Bat.” She waves at them, startling some again, since they’d forgotten she was there. Hm, they might have to do another stealth and awareness training day.
“This is Spoiler, she is not one of mine technically,” he continues on introducing everyone there.
Steph grins at all of them and says: “I eat his food and steal his money, but I’m not having him sign shit. All of the perks, none of the accountability.”
“And how you remind me of that,” Bruce sighs, before gesturing to Tim and saying: “This is Red Robin, my fourth kid. He is adopted, but also emancipated. And I did not steal him away from his parents.”
“Technically, he did, because they were kinda shitty, but only legally when they died,” Tim corrects, which is not necessary and Bruce will be answering questions about that for months. Judging by the smug look on his face, Tim knows.
Deciding not to engage for now, he moves on to Duke. “This is Signal, he is my ward. He normally works the day shift.”
“Hello,” Duke squeaks awkwardly.
“And this is Robin, he is the youngest,” Bruce finishes his introductions.
“I am the blood son of the Bat and the one true heir,” Damian exclaims proudly.
“Yeah, yeah, we know, brat,” Jason rolls his eyes. “You were once B’s sperm. Whoop-die-doo.”
Multiple faces contort at that, with Tim and Steph both exclaiming how gross that is and how he didn’t have to phrase it like that and how they never want to hear about Bruce’s sex life ever again in any way, shape, or form.
Hal comments: “Wait, you actually have a kid?”
Bruce fights the urge to facepalm as he deadpans: “Just a second ago, you were willing to believe I had seven or more, why do you seem surprised?”
That renders Hal speechless, which is good, because Bruce doesn’t want to be here anymore. He wants to check up properly on his kids, check up on Gotham, and be as far away from the League and their questions as he can.
So, he uses the silence to says: “Now, as interesting as this has all been, we are going home. I have a city to check on and kids to ground.”
All around him protests start up about how he either has no power over them and can’t ground them or that they’re too mature and well trained fro childish things such as grounding. But Bruce is great at tuning them out when needs must, so he types in the last of the Batcave coordinates and lets the Zeta-Tube take them home.
~~
A/N:
I love coming up with convoluted reasons of why the batfam would be in the Watchtower lmao
Also Alfred totally taught them to cry on command, knowing they would use it for evil <3

Random DC/DP headcannons bc I can't sleep
Expect many typos
Danny hates storms, especially thunderstorms bc of the lighting cracking in the sky
Danny wears a power cuff like a bracelet that dampens his more violent powers bc he's scared of them (wail, large-scale ice like with undergrowth etc)
In one of his magazines, instead of bullets Jason keeps solid ectoplasm just in case, and so it's not conspicous
In his Phantom form Danny has a streak of black hair where his white usually is
Jason is fright knight (unless it's a Jason-Danny biologically related fic. Ghost Zone law says no one you share blood with (clones included) can become fright knight (but they can join the court and have other ranks))
Danny made a contingency plan against himself and with the help of a sibling (Cass most likely, though she did seem a bit sad) got it on the bat-computer. Password protected so Danny can't get into it. Bruce doesn't know and won't know until/if Danny goes bad. Bruce made a separate one for him.
Tim gets low and non-harmfil doses of ectoplasm in his coffee bc it is like a shit ton of caffeine for a living person. (Yes, some Amity Park drinks have ectoplasm in them too)
Danny asks Bruce, Tim and Lucius for help with Ghost King Shit TM
Duke has to squint when looking directly at ectoplasm (Danny's trying to find some solution but there isn't one)
Jason has a shadow core
Damian got extinct animals from Danny as a birthday gift multiple times (a dodo bird named Delilah, a messenger pigeon names Luke and a splendid posion frog named Ares)
To piss Bruce off, Jason got a pterodactyl he's named Flynn that he takes on patrol. Safe to safe, people get a hella more scared of Red Hood. Bruce hates it but Jason does actually love Flynn and Bruce can't bring himself to take Flynn awya
Danny made a patrol playlist for every member of the bat family and beyond bc he has one for when he goes out as Phantom (they all listen to their playlists and love them)
Before Danny was fully pulled into the family, he'd flinch at Dick's escrima sticks and still catches himself staring the weapon, his heart pounding
Danny found out Captain Marvel was a kid bc while on a mission with him, Captain Marvel pointed out that there was a pirate ship hovering above them and that Danny should probably deal with that. He'd, and any other Amity Parker that overhead, never laughed so badly in his entire life. Billy was never so scared & confused.
Bart and Danny are friends bc Dan had leveled most of the future before the Beatles took over what was left (I'm actually not that sure about Bart's backstory so feel free to correct me if something's wrong here)
Cass and Danny have staring contests alot. Sometimes the others think they've fallen asleep with their eyes open. They didn't.
Danny had a Twitter account for Phantom without Bruce knowing, but when Steph was trying to convince Bruce to let her have one she mentioned it and Danny had to delete it (he has an alt he now posts every embarrassing thing Batman does and has ever done)
Puns. So many puns between Dick & Danny.
Danny mumbles in his sleep
Crows flock to Danny like hungry tigers. Damian's envious but he gets to pet & feed them so it's mostly okay.
GW likes Jason and let's him borrow books whenever he wants to (also any destroyed book ends up with GW but that's a pretty common hc) but Jason has to swear not to give them to Danny. Not that Danny wants them.
Duke is helping Tucker out with studies and Tucker Duke with tech. Technus sometimes shows up too to help.
Johnny and Jason are dEAD bffs
Sam and Babs get on like a house on fire
Talia met Danny and they're actually friendly to each other. Sure, she's trying to trick Danny into giving her his throne, but Danny knew that and wasn't about to let that happen
Danny will randomly punch his siblings, smirk, then bow and say "my leige" and run away. The sibling now has the crown and is chasing to punch Danny back because honestly fuck that
Constantine is slightly terrified of Danny and Bruce uses it like a threat-- "John, if you don't answer, Danny will contact you." It works like a charm
When too excited, Danny and Jason will start talking in Ghost speech. It freaks everyone else but Damian and Cass out bc the same sounds came from the pits
Take, edit, have fun with whatever you want here. It's just bs that crawls around my brain for funsies and won't let me sleep.

Character Profile: Connor Hawke (Green Arrow II)
It's time to meet another member of the Lost Titans! The most beautiful boy in the world: Connor Hawke!
Tumblr media
Connor is the oldest biological child of Oliver Queen and the second Green Arrow. He was introduced in 1994, possibly the best year for blorbos of all time, although readers didn't know that he was Ollie's son right away.
(His mother, we would eventually learn, is Sandra "Moonday" Hawke, who had a brief, no strings relationship with Ollie during their hippie days. Moonday has a Black father and a Korean mother, and is charmingly flaky with a shitty abusive new husband, the arms dealer Milo Armitage, who Connor butted heads with repeatedly in his solo series.)
Tumblr media
At the time, Ollie was smack dab in the middle of a nervous breakdown, as well as injured (Connor helped patch him up, hence the line about seeing him naked). He'd taken refuge in a Buddhist ashram where he'd once found peace.
At the time, Connor was about 18 and had been at the ashram for five years. He was a big Green Arrow fanboy and the two quickly bonded. He was also an aspiring archer, although his archery was just okay, while his hand-to-hand combat was superb. (In the 90s, Connor was ranked as the fifth best martial artist in the DCU, which means he's better than Nightwing. (The top four are probably Lady Shiva, Richard Dragon, Bronze Tiger, and Batman. Cass Cain didn't exist yet.))
When assassins came to the ashram to kill Ollie, Ollie and his ex-CIA frenemy Eddie Fyers fled. Connor insisted on coming with them. Eddie guessed the truth about Connor, but Ollie was still in the dark until Hal Jordan, in the middle of his own Parallax-induced breakdown, showed up out of nowhere and asked Ollie to introduce him to his son.
Ollie...didn't handle the news well.
Tumblr media
Ollie's nervous breakdown only escalated from here on out, and he eventually wound up dying in a helicopter explosion (though he did go out a hero, saving all of Metropolis). Connor decided that though Oliver Queen had disappointed him, the world could still use a Green Arrow - and maybe if he walked in his father's shoes for a bit, he could try to understand him a little bit better.
Connor spent about five years as the only Green Arrow, traveling the world with Eddie as a curmudgeonly mentor figure. He quickly made a few superhero friends, most notably Tim Drake and of course the new Green Lantern, Kyle Rayner:
Tumblr media
Kyle 100% STOLE THIS MOVE FROM ROY and that will always be funny to me.
Connor was briefly on the JLA before deciding (much like his father had before him) that he felt more effective and comfortable on the ground, helping individuals rather than fighting cosmic horrors. Eventually, the GA book was canceled and Connor decided to return to the ashram, trying to find what he was searching for by looking within, rather than by cosplaying as his dad.
In 2001, Ollie returned. Connor basically magically sensed that his father was back and in danger, and raced off to help him fight demons. Ollie, for his part, gave up his chance at staying at peace in Heaven in order to save Connor's life. Once the demons were defeated, Ollie seriously committed himself to getting to know his son and making up for lost time. They moved into a house together in Star City, along with Mia Dearden, a teenage former sex worker Ollie had taken under his wing. Connor and Mia quickly became very close.
There were a couple of major Connor-related developments early on in this run: first, Connor was shot in the head by the supervillain Onomatopoeia, though he survived thanks to quick emergency services and a blood transfusion from Ollie. And second, it was revealed that Ollie had always known about Connor, had been there for his birth, and just lied to everyone when he said he didn't have a kid. I hate this retcon, which to me makes Ollie's behavior irredeemably horrible - not just to Connor, but to Dinah and Roy, too. Brad Meltzer isn't the greatest writer when it comes to paying attention to past continuity, characterization, or, uh, logic. But my rant about how Archer's Quest sucks is a separate post. Anyway just know I will never acknowledge this retcon in a fic. I spit on it. Ptoo.
During this time, and really ever since his origin, there was speculation about Connor's sexuality. Connor is a very reserved, introverted character and was canonically a virgin when he was introduced (and still is, unless you count "sex" with a ghost where he didn't even get his pants off), and this of course stood in marked contrast to Ollie and Roy, both loud extroverted horn dogs. The fact that women were constantly throwing themselves at a blatantly uninterested Connor didn't help:
Tumblr media
Ollie, Roy, and Kyle all flat-out asked Connor if was gay, which at the time he always denied, but he also explained to Roy that he was looking for The One, which I just love, because so was Roy, just in a different way! Everyone always says that Connor is so different from Ollie and Roy, and they're not wrong, but that's something they absolutely have in common: they are all hopeless romantics.
Connor's life was pretty good immediately after Ollie's return (getting shot in the head notwithstanding), but no writer really seemed to know what to do with him. There was an attempt to give him a spotlight again in the Connor Hawke: Dragon's Blood miniseries, which is...fine, I guess? Connor is forced to kill a supervillain who is trying to turn into a dragon and destroy the world. Also he makes out with Shado, the woman who raped Ollie in the early 90s, which is...certainly a thing that happened. (Connor wasn't going to be gay on Chuck Dixon's watch, nosirree!) (And actually I think the whole Shado issue is extremely complicated but there's no denying that the Shado/Connor kiss was really, really off. But my Shado rant is yet another post!) There's some interesting character stuff there but overall the miniseries has been mostly forgotten.
In the second half of the 2000s, things got shitty for Connor, just like they did for basically every character. First, he was shot with a bullet laced with a toxin that left him in a coma:
Tumblr media
God Cliff Chiang draws him so beautifully.
Anyway, Connor was just sort of...left in the coma for a while. Eventually he was kidnapped and Ollie had to rescue him. There's a long stretch where Connor's body is just sort of used as a prop without any actual personhood involved, which is...really, really not a great way to use a BIPOC character? Oof.
When Connor finally woke up from the coma, he a) had amnesia, b) had a healing factor because of spliced in DNA from Plastic Man???, c) none of his old personality or character traits anymore (he had no archery prowess, was no longer a vegetarian, etc.). He then wandered off to find himself. Again: I love that Ollie came back, but aggressively sidelining Connor in Ollie's stories and/or only allowing him to be a victim for Ollie to save or a wise prop to serve Ollie and Mia's stories, then writing him off by putting him in a coma, then literally having him leave the book, was NOT GREAT.
Connor returned for Blackest Night and its aftermath, when he was like "Hey Dad, I have my memory back for no reason now, and also? I hate you."
Then the New 52 happened and Connor stopped existing. But don't worry! The ensuing years brought us not one but three riffs on the character who were all entirely white! (The New 52 Earth-Two version of Connor who looks like Roy, the Injustice "Connor Queen" who is the biological son of Ollie and Dinah, and Oliver's kid on Arrow and yes I know Connor Hawke is a separate character on that show but it was still a very bad look.)
Connor finally returned to us in 2021 as one of Damian's competitors during the assassin tournament on Lazarus Island. The two quickly bonded, and Damian was one of the first people Connor came out to as asexual (FINALLY):
Tumblr media
Currently, Connor is appearing in Green Arrow as his family tries to find a way to be together and locate all of their missing members. It hasn't really been explained where he was or how he ended up in the clutches of the League of Shadows on Lazarus Island, and might never be explained. He also hasn't reunited with Ollie yet, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing it (and someday Kyle maybe please?).
In conclusion: I love Connor very, very much, he deserves better than what he got for the past 15 years or so, and I'm very happy he's back in comics and allowed to actually be queer, connected to his Korean heritage, making friends outside of Ollie's sphere, etc. Mazel tov, baby.

One day or so one of the bats or spoiler- asked where Jason get those sick tattoos. "I just happened to know some guy." He didn't rly elaborate it but whatever Steph is on a mission!
Steph got curious obviously and she always want tattoos like his. She tried with a shop she found only but wanted like the one Jason had. So she's spy! Heard from a birdie or she supposed Dickie that Jason is gonna get more of em'. Maybe Tim tagged along. Duke doesn't want to get involved. Cass is somewhere maybe ballet. Dick is going somewhere with Damian something related to animal or art or more.
Steph saw Jason stop by a Cafe with a very cute guy with black hair neon green highlights significantly shorter than Jason. Steph and Tim is 100% sure that the guy is his tattoo artist! They noticed another guy came by the table. With horrid expression Tim and Steph accidentally reveal themselves to Jason. Jason, who long ago noticed the little leeches tried to shake them off. He did or so he thought well now he knows that he didn't.
Jason who noticed them, excuse himself for a quick second. Literally didn't hid his eyebrows twitch. The guy merely rise his eyebrows and nod anyway.
Jason obviously chew them out. Steph pouted. Tim kinda urging for coffee. Jason when back inside and cancel the appointment. The guy look troubled but eh welp. Jason was about to apologize. "Jake I–" then another guy came and just sat next to tatto– Jake with coffee and drinks in his hands. The guy had eye bags that looks like Tim's eye bag twin with opposite persona. "Mornin' Jackie and Jackie's friends." The guy said without looking at any of them already quietly drifting off. "Babe- Danny- we've talk about this.." Jake slow pry away the coffee that was used to be in Danny's hand. Danny only hums and accepted his fate because he was just to tired.
Jake sighed and let Danny sleeps. He then, turned his attention back to his client. "We can discuss the schedule for some other time, yeah? Hopefully nothing will came up next time.." Jake said to the now way-to-quiet Bats.
Jake Long is Jason's favorite tattoos artists. The dude is chill and never question or try to find anything about him so he does the same. But now ah shit he might needa be a big ol' bat for Jake's boyfriend... Or is he rly(he rly is Jason stop overthinking shit).
Meanwhile the bats are panicking and dying from inside slowly. Because the one that Jake had called babe just now looks exactly like their youngest brother who looks exactly like their adopted father(not Steph) who is biologically related to their youngest brother.

Bat bio donors
So Catherine Todd, unfortunately, wasn't Jason's bio mom, even if she was his mom in every other way that matters. Embezzler, child trafficker, and Joker associate Shelia Haywood was his biological mother...probably.
There was no DNA test so I remain unconvinced.
That being said, I see no acceptable evidence that Willis Todd was Jason's bio father. (And if there is, shhh, don't care)
Yes Bruce could be his bio dad but boring, be more creative!
For example, someone else who's based in Gotham, who might have a fling and not follow up on it for very whatever reason, and who might be the namesake of our favorite gun wielding bat: Jason Bood. Yes Shelia, if she is the mother, may have put Willis on the birth certificate, but there's nothing to say that she didn't have an evening with a man with a charming accent, considerable experience, and a rather two faced nature.
Or perhaps someone who is a tiny bit less volatile such as David Cain.
Or honestly there's enough weirdness in Gotham that Jason's other bio donor was Nocturna, the woman who would later want to adopt him while he was Robin and she was, in fact, though she didn't know it, trying to get her own bio child.
Furthermore, Bruce as Tim Drake's bio donor, yes, good, understandable, likely even.
However, there are other options, for example:
Janet spends a great deal of time going around the world and with various artifacts, some of these artifacts could be magical in nature. That magic may have various effects on the average person and one of the more popular things that people in ancient times sought revolved around fertility control, to improve or prevent. Janet might trip over more than a few artifacts designed to improve fertility, let's say even to the point that some who might not normally be able to sire children might in fact be capable of doing so with Janet while she's still under the influence of such magic, such as:
Lady Shiva who admires Janet's ability to handle both a growing business and her academic pursuits.
Ra's Al Ghul who came by for an artifact and had a fling with the lady who found it mostly because why not? Yes if Tim ever found out, or Ra's ever found out, it would result in considerable mental distress, but it could also be hilarious. Flip a coin to decide if this would make Talia want Tim dead more or less than she already does.
Some ancient god who's essentially mortal at this point and has been clinging to existence by the thinnest thread and really the only reason their name is known at this point is because it was in a letter about very bad copper. Tim receives no benefits from this parent except above average endurance and healing which is how he's survived. He's also as stubborn as the nameless god that's hung on for four thousand or so years.
Gotham itself is Tim's bio donor and this is why tiny baby stalker Tim didn't die a thousand times over while he was taking pictures, Gotham was looking out for their son.
Then there's Cassandra, "one who is all" who may or may not be Shiva's daughter.
Honestly for Shiva and for Talia, given the danger they put themselves in and the stress that pregnancy can do to a body, plus the necessary time to heal properly afterwards, the canon where Damian is grown in a tube makes sense and I wouldn't be surprised if Shiva took a page from Talia's book.
Shiva as the mother of "one who is all" can make sense. The other bio donor, well, let's look at other options.
Slade perhaps? He's had quite a few remarkable children, and can handle none of them, but that wouldn't stop him from being a candidate.
If you're a fan of wuxia or xianxia novels, look for or make up some ancient cultivator that Shiva sought out for training perhaps and on that strength Cassandra can pick up cultivation and become that much more awesome, maybe even teach it to her brothers.
Sect Leader Cass o((>ω< ))o
Or someone can be related to or connected to a Lamont Crantson and see if they can step out of his Shadow.
Dick's bio parents were freakin' awesome so jumping over him and also leaving Duke's parentage alone though more distant ancestors for either of them, such as great-great grandmothers or grandfathers might be interesting. Dick has a Talon in the family tree but who else might be hanging around in there?
For example, Santa is real in the dc universe. Tim and his team could have witnessed the death of Dick's maternal great-great-great-great grandpa.
As for Duke, if his family has been in Gotham for longer than a generation, there've got to be some serious weirdos in his bloodline, maybe a lesser known Talon or Queen Mab.
Damian not being the son of Bruce and Talia would be a serious blow to the kid and not worth it. Giving him blood siblings is more fun. He already has a problem learning to share his dad with his adopted siblings, sharing with blood siblings would be good for him.
Stephanie? An additional dad option would probably give her some sort of mental crisis since she originally based her vigilante career on defeating her deadbeat, second rate rogue father. It would be interesting and honestly a little hilarious though if her mother had a fling with Oliver Queen.

I feel like the reason so much content of the Batkids is so ooc and unrealistic and if i'm being mean straight up corny in a bad way is that the fandom dosen't understand the particular type of siblings they are.I don't mean adoptive since they're not normal adoptive siblings-in the sense that they weren't all raised together under the same roof by the same parent(s)-but found siblings,which is a very important distinction when it comes to potrayals.I'm not gonna go into detail so i don't make anyone uncomfortable and it would derail my points anyway but i'm like them in the sense that i have a shit ton of trauma that nobody else understood or sympathized with until my friends who i now see as my siblings in addition to my biological ones came along and also like them,we're not all the same age so that effects our relathionships with eachother.To elaborate by using the Batkids as examples since this post is about them:
Dick has gotten the 'Ultra Responsible Perfect Eldest SiblingTM' and 'Adult who's so goofy and sweet they're literally mentally a child/teen who can't do anything by themself' roles shoved onto him equally popularly by different sections of the fandom and yet somehow also some of the same ones.As someone who has a pretty similar position to him with his own found younger siblings,neither of those are accurate At All.He does his best to be a positive influence on the other Batkids and someone who they can turn to when they have problems but also dosen't treat them like they're his students or something rather than his family and joins in on their silly shenanigans and encourages them to do dumb kid shit because he knows they deserve to act their age and that's what a good eldest sibling is.Not an 'i'm so much better than you' robot or a manchild but someone who you can both look to for help and who's your friend .Him and the others for that matter deserve nothing else.Related to that,please erase the idea that he can't both an older sibling and a parental figure-One of my younger friend's literally calls me 'Mom' and 'Dad'.They can and do co-exist.Also this leads to accidentally treating them as younger than they are and he gets mixed reviews /lh
Jason's the edgy mean one yeah yeah but trust me,that does not mean any of the Batkids don't bully him or know they're cooler than him.In fact,that's the exact reason they do!This especially applies to Cass because trust me,they're NOT big bro and soft uwu sis-They're basically the dynamic fanon gives Jason and Tim only Cass is Jason and Jason is Tim.SHE'S the super cool goth big sibling,not him.And speaking of Jason,him and Duke are peak of playing favorites with eachother.They do everything together and share their stuff with eachother without needing to be asked and get up to weirdest shit in the middle of the night when they're low on sleep.You know that pic of a guy hacking a computer hunched over while his friend stands on his back and is on the phone?Actual Red Hood and The Signal sighting at the library at 2 in the morning(Not clickbait)
I assure you none of Tim's siblings other than Jason and Damian were ever out to get him and if they were,he would've confronted them about it like two decades ago because he has about as much tolerance for that kinda treatment as he has lack of rizz(Read:None).It's very obvious they all love him and vice versa and i'd go as far as to call it toxic and harmful to irl siblings regardless of blood relation to erase something so important to his healing from his earlier childhood trauma.I get that y'all love drama but you can't write it so maybe try parodies,your style is hilariously bad enough to fit them.Also:They definitely tease him for his stereotypical (half) white boy tastes and he plays along with it because well,what kind of detective would he be if he denied truth with proof?The awnser is a cop btw
Damian is their whole world.I love my younger found siblings so much and i'm always complimenting them and coming up with the dumbest shit to make them laugh and indulging them in their interests-Speaking of which,seeing as all the Batkids are autistic-coded and me and almost all my friends are too,they definitely all have special interests that're mostly different from eachother's but they're's always overlap and even if they don't,THEY WILL MAKE THEM.Also once again if anybody is getting jokes of how much they wanna kick his ass,it's not him but Jason.Taste of your medicine and all that
And they definitely see Stephanie as part of them and show it to her-Dosen't matter that she's not adopted by Bruce,they're vigilantes so they play by their own rules and Stephanie RULES.Oh and with the exception of formely Tim and forever Cass because they're literal soulmates by choice,none of them would ever want their relathionships with her to ever be seen in even the slightest romantic light and find the thought actively disturbing.Like dude......That's our sister,please take your leave and don't come back(Also as far as Dick is concerned,she's a literal toddler and Slade is his archenemesis for a reason)
Last thing-They definitely have a group chat because yes,that's an actual thing among siblings but it is a MESS.You know all those twitter aus of them?Yeah they don't post that shit in public ever in their life but catch them sending all that and more in The Batnest(Duke picked the name.He thinks he's a comedic genius and he's right)

Comic reading 101 or: I don't know what I want to read, can you help?
my inbox is open if you have some story you'd like to read specifically, those are just recs of storylines that I really like.
This lists purpose is to give you general recommendations. Scroll down a bit through the bolded parts, see if something sounds good.
You want to read about a group of teenagers doing teenage shenanigans? I recommend New Teen Titans (1983), or Young Justice (1998)
New teen titans is the team you're used to if you used to watch the teen titans show. Much like the other comics at that time, the issues can seem disconnected, and the story arcs are short. If you want to read about Dick Grayson, that would be a good place to read about him.
If you'd rather read about Tim Drake, or you would like something where the absurdity is closer to the 90s and early 2000s, Young Justice is excellent. If you enjoyed watching DC legends of tomorrow, this might be the run for you. Much like in legends, they play a game to save the Earth, once, and also kill Santa Claus.
You got here from Batfamily, and you'd like to read about the members? Let me do a rapid fire list of good stories for each.
For Bruce: there are a thousand reading guides out there, but the storylines you'll most likely be most interested in will be the Jason dies, and the Tim joins the batfamily ones. Those are respectively, Death of the Family, and A Lonely Place for Dying
For Dick: I don't have a solid recommendation for a run, but I'll tell you that I did enjoy Nightwing Rebirth and Nightwing Infinite. Those are both under the Nightwing (2016) label, and are issues 1-50, then 73-present. The twenty five issues in the middle are not worth reading.
For Jason: Under the Red Hood is a must, but if you're tired of reading by that point, the animated movie is a good substitute. After that, I'd recommend Red Hood Lost Days. I'd also recommend, for your hurt/comfort, the story Cheer, which you can find in issues 1-6 of Batman Urban Legends.
For Tim: after a lonely place for dying, if Tim really is your little guy, he has a long run in 1993. It's extremely dense, and it should last you a while. After that, you can look up Battle for the Cowl (no need to read it), and jump into Red Robin.
For Cass: Batgirl (2000) is a must, as well as the No Man's land storyline, though that one is harder to read.
For Steph: Batgirl (2009) is the largest solo run she's had. It's very good.
For Duke: We Are Robins is a twelve issues mini that fully introduces his character. After that, he appears in Batman (2016).
For Damian: Robin: son of Batman, then Batman&Robin, both by Tomasi and Morrison ate where a large part of his character développement come from. For something light hearted, try Supersons and Adventures of the Supersons.
What appealed to me in Batfam was the found family, but they're too dysfunctional in canon, what can I read with those same feels? The found family is pretty much there in any superhero comics, but I feel you. Ranked by levels of functionality:
The flashfam is there for your fluff and light conflict. They don't always get along (see: flash war) but they generally like each other, and they generally don't have the sort of conflict the batfam has. Most of them *are* biologically related, but it's all kind of weird. For a kid getting a father figure, read Impulse (1995), or Wally West's early appearances.
The superfam has issues, but they've mostly worked through them. Kind of. Right now, in Action Comics, they get along. You can pretty much pick any character who isn't Clark or Jon, and start reading about them, and they're found familied. If you want some specifically family related conflict, though, I'd read about Kon.
The arrowfam is like the Batfamily, only they actually try to communicate. I've got different shades of found family in that one: if you want a biological son reconnects with his father after said father was dead for a period of time, read about Connor Hawke (green arrow 2001). If you want father daughter bonding between a man and a kid he collected, read about Mia (green arrow 2001). If you want to read about the first kid that got adopted, it'll be a tad trickier, but read about Roy Harper (issues in Action Comics, you'll have to look that one up, but it's usually only a dozen issues at a time)
The batfamily, but I put a guide higher up.
I kind of want to read about a character that not many people talk about, because I'm scared I'll post a bad take and get dogpiled. First off, that shouldn't happen, and if it does, assume it's from a comic bro not worth your time. Second off, I can only offer EXTRMELY biased recs here, but it's a wild world, if you want a specific flavor of character, it exists. Most of the ones I like turn out to be similar enough.
Thad Thawne: you can read his major storyline in Impulse 1995, issues 62-66. He's of the traumatized child variety.
Jean-Paul Valley: he has quite a large role in 90s comics, during the Knightfall saga, but reading Dark Knight Of The Soul and Sword of Azrael (both from around 2020) are a decent intro. Of the cult made variety.
Lonnie Machin: you can read him in his two solos, Anarky 97 and Anarky 99, and there is a comprehensive reading guide on @/azbats page. It doesn't take long to go through.
Mother Panic: also of the cult made variety, she has a 12 issues mini called Mother Panic, as well as a 6 issues one called Mother Panic Gotham AD.
Xanthe: this one can be found currently, in Spirit World. It's only 4 issues so far, not much to catch up on.
In general, fans of the characters that usually don't get much mainstream content (the magic people of DC, like Constantine or Zatanna, or the Aquaman family, or the Amazon family for exemple) are very open to new comers wanting to learn more about these characters. They'll be extatic to give you short reading guides if you ask for them (and you can ask simply for the barebones recommendations, to get the very gist of the character)
There are a lot more out there. A *lot*. You'll find a character you like.
I want to read classic comics, so that I know the very basic ones. Kind of a tough question, and one I don't fully have a response to. I can give you well known Batman storylines but what is considered a classic varies from person to person. In no particular order:
Batman: A long Halloween
Batman: Hush
Batman: Death of the Family
Batman: Under the Red Hood
I want an au, I don't like the way things are in batman comics. I can't offer you that many, it's not something I read a lot about, but:
Batman: White Knight (start with white knight, there are many spin offs, but they're generally given at the end of the last issue)
Dark Knights of Steel (12 issues!)
I want something that feels like fanfiction! There's some of that too, trust me
Cheer (Jason hurt/comfort) (batman: urban legends 1-6)
Knight Terrors Robin (Tim and Jason bonding) (2 issues)
Nightwing written by Tom Taylor (Dick fixing issues) (issues 73 on)
Red Robin (Tim having an absolute shit time and being a badass) (less than 30 issues)
All of these are generic recommendations. They're not the end all be all of reading lists for any given character, far from it. But hopefully, you manage to narrow down the vibe you want, and find something that interests you. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in my inbox, I'll be glad to infodump.
To read any of this, typing "[comic title] read online" is extremely effective, so long as you have an adblocker.

Misconception that DC has tried to retroactively make the new canon to varying degrees
"Jason died because he was reckless and angry and wanted to prove himself - thus ignoring batman's order's to stay put and getting killed by the joker because his experience was inadequate to take him on"
What actually happened, largely abridged
"Jason was trying to prove himself to Batman" bull, actually - after Jason overheard Bruce and Alfred saying he should be benched from robin, he ran out of the house to clear his head, and returned to his old apartment. there, he unexpectedly came across the info that his mom wasn't actually his birth mom, and decided to go find her (bc Bruce is terrible with expressing his emotions, and inadvertently made both dick AND Jason feel like their place in his life/at the manor was dependent on being robin, so being fired feels a hell of a lot like being unwanted/kicked out - like. we know this. it happened with dick. It's gonna happen similarly but differently with Tim. it's a theme)
finding her just also happened to mean checking out various potential moms, not all of which were local, or even in the country...  so, sure, angry, but also really upset and all those other complicated emotions that come along with "I think my dad doesn't want me around anymore" and "oh wow i have a living parent out there in the world"
Bruce didn't even notice he ran away btw?? to another COUNTRY???? Bruce was tracking down Joker for a case and legit just HAPPENED to come across him bc his search for Joker coincided with Jason's search for his mother???? sir????????????? Jason is 15???? and also canonically so, so small. 4'6" i mean come on, not only is he objectively young but he definitely *looks* young, too
anyway they team up. it's kinda cute - also would have been low-key fun if Shiva *was* his mom I won't lie, but like, Cass exists and is so wonderful, that funky lil opportunity for additional bat and shiva drama was banked on
then they find Jason's mom and Bruce... leaves him with her???? Like, okay, sure, she's biologically related to him, and seems like a nice enough person bc she does work w a humanitarian organization, but sir. That is your small child you're leaving alone with a stranger in an unfamiliar place in an unfamiliar COUNTRY can we re-think this decision.
shenanigans happen and they both team up again for the joker thing, which ends w Bruce running off to save civilians from a truck full of bombs or something, and Jason keeping an eye on the warehouse joker and his mom are in. B tells Jason to stay put, and Jason is annoyed but agrees. he has literally every intention of staying out of Joker's way while Batman is away!!
of course, baby 15 year old jason (and b!!) think jay's mom is being *forced* to work with joker. What's a baby to do when his mom comes out and says he needs to leave well enough alone?? a baby will tell her he's robin and can help, that's what!! That she doesn't need to worry and he's more capable of protecting her than she thinks! and what's a shitty mother who cares more about her reputation and money than a child's life to do?? Tell him joker isn't at the warehouse anymore, obviously, it's all totally fine and Jason should definitely come inside while she grabs some things - oh but yes please walk ahead of her, of course. And *then* she pulls a gun on on him, right before they meet the very clown she swore had left.
He's not expecting the joker! He definitely wasn't expecting his mother to lie to him!! Reckless, rash, and angry my ass. If anything killed Jason, it was that he put too much love and trust and the earnest will to see good in people.
And it's really fucking sad that, after all that trauma - his death and resurrection both - after feeling betrayed and forgotten by his family, feeling his life wasn't *worth* a damn in the end, that he ultimately lost that ability to see the good before the bad and just trust that there are better people in the world - from too much empathy to not nearly enough

WDIB Chapter 14
Damian walked down the halls of the hotel towards the elevator with Adrien trailing after him hesitantly.
“Uh, should you have said that to your dad?” He asked nervously, rushing to walk side by side with him.
Damian looked at him curiously, pressing the button to call for the elevator.
“It was the truth, why shouldn’t I have said it?”
“Aren’t you going to be in trouble when we get back?” Adrien asked, casting a nervous glance towards the room’s door.
Damian paused, his eyes catching sight on the bruises circling Adrien’s neck.
“No, I won’t be in trouble. And even if I were to get in trouble, he wouldn’t do anything bad.” Damian reassured him as the doors to the elevator opened.
Adrien followed him into the elevator, pressing his lips together.
“Are you absolutely sure?” He asked again once the doors closed.
“Yes, I am. Besides, even if there was a chance he was going to try to hurt me in any way. Clark would stop him. And if this scenario were to play out at home, where Clark wasn’t there, someone else in our family would stop him.” Damian explained, watching the numbers on the elevator go down.
“But that would never happen. I have said and done much worse and he’s never raised a hand to me like that. He has also taught all of us self-defense, we trained until we could beat him in a fight, and then we kept training because it was fun and useful.” Damian finished, glancing at Adrien from the corner of his eye.
Adrien swallowed, nodding his head.
“Okay,” he said, deciding to take Damian’s word for it. “You said ‘all of us’ right? Do you have siblings? Other than potentially me, of course.”
Damian pulled out his phone, opening his photos app and clicking on his family album.
He passed the phone to Adrien as the doors opened.
“Yes, there are a few of us. Though I, and potentially you, would be the only biological children. Everyone else is adopted.” Damian said, watching him flick through the photos.
Adrien walked alongside Damian as he flicked through the photos, it wasn’t until he reached the family photo, with everyone in one picture that he spoke.
“A ‘few’ of you huh?” He said with a laugh, a look of shock painted across his face.
Damian smirked, rounding the corner and spotting the store across the street.
“Just a few.” He said, heading for the crosswalk.
Adrien followed after him with a laugh, rushing across the street and holding the door open for Damian.
Damian walked through and immediately started searching for what he was after.
“Can you tell me everyone’s names?” Adrien asked hesitantly, staring at the photo with mixed emotions.
Damian glanced at him, for the first time wondering if he was actually right in his hunch.
If he was wrong, that look of absolute longing on Adrien’s face would hurt that much worse.
Damian paused, considering his thoughts.
It didn’t actually matter if Adrien was his biological brother or not. He could just be adopted.
Damian shrugged, continuing with his search now that he had a Plan B.
“The oldest is Dick, the second tallest, horribly dressed one.” He started, pulling a stifled snort from Adrien. “Then it’s Jason, the actual tallest with the white streak in his hair.”
“Tim is next, the one who looks like a sickly Victorian child. Steph, the blonde one, was his ex-girlfriend but now she’s dating Cass, the one with short black hair.”
“Duke is the one T-posing with Steph. Alfred is the older man in the suit. He’s technically the family butler but he’s more like everyone’s grandfather. Barbra is the one with the red hair and in a wheelchair, she’s technically not related or dating anyone in the family, at least she wasn’t last time I checked, but we’ve all known her so long she’s pretty much family.”
Damian grinned, finally finding the test he needed.
He grabbed two, just in case, before turning to face Adrien.
“I think that’s everyone but the animals and extended family and family friends.” Damian said, guiding them over to the counter.
Damian paid quickly, wanting to hurry up and get the test finished and over with as soon as possible.
“Okay, so…” Adrien started, turning the phone towards Damian as they started their trip back.
“This is Dick,” he said, looking up for confirmation before continuing. “This is Jason, Tim, Steph, Cass, Duke, Barbara, and Alfred, right?”
Damian nodded along as Adrien accurately pointed out each of his family members.
“You got everyone right.” Damian told him.
“Awesome,” Adrien said happily. “Is there anything I should know about everyone?”
Damian hummed, thinking it over.
“Dick is an acrobat. Teaching everyone tricks is one of his love languages but he can also be very touch orientated. Just tell him no if you get uncomfortable, he’s very serious about respecting peoples boundaries.”
“Jason is protective. He’s seen a lot of bad in the world and had no one to save him from it, he tries to make sure no one else has to go through what he did. He’s also a massive literature nerd and a diehard romantic.”
“Tim can be annoying. He’s very nosy with an insatiable curiosity and can be pushy, but he’s been trying to be better about respecting boundaries. He’s into photography and he likes to skateboard.”
“Steph loves anything purple, she’s very playful and that sometimes leads to people underestimating her and not taking her seriously. She’s very clever and likes nothing more than to put assholes in their place, me included. One of her favorite hobbies is tormenting out father.”
“Cass has almost the opposite problem. A lot of people underestimate her because of her size, and she’s a selective mute. She’s a very kind person who is also rather playful, but because of how little she speaks and various other things you won’t understand until you meet her, a lot of people take her too seriously. They don’t expect her to goof off or get the joke so they don’t try to have fun with her and often cut her out of conversations.”
“Duke likes to pretend that he’s the normal one in the family. Truth is he’s just as chaotic as the rest of us, he just hides it, and himself, from the public a bit better. He loves puzzles and riddles, he also loves creative writing, mostly poetry but don’t tell him I told you. He doesn’t think anyone knows.”
“Barbara and Dick have been in an on and off relationship for as long as I’ve known them. Never try to hide anything from her because she will find out and will retaliate in ways you can’t prove. She’s incredible with computers so if you need any help, ask her. If she can’t help, Tim might be able to.”
“Alfred is the man who raised my father, and subsequently, he raised all of us as well. Never try to hide anything from him because he already knows and if you lie it will just make you look stupid. Honestly, he probably already knows about you.” Damian said, giving Adrien a glance as they walked into the hotel lobby.
“What do you mean by that? There’s no way he could know about me-”
“Just trust me. Alfred knows everything, we don’t know how or why, he just does.” Damian told him.
“You make him sound like some kind of all knowing cryptid.” Adrien laughed, passing Damian back his phone.
“I’m not entirely sure he’s human if I’m being honest with you.” Damian said with a shrug, calling for the elevator.
Though their walk there had been rather carefree, Damian could feel Adrien tense the closer they got to the hotel room.
Damian made sure to enter the room first, taking care that Adrien didn’t feel trapped in the room by blocking him from the door.
“We’re back!” He called out, setting the tests on the table.
“Oh, good. Did you get the tests?” Clark asked, coming over to stand next to Damian.
“Yes, I got two. Just in case.” Damian said, shooting a look to his father.
Bruce sighed heavily.
“We won’t need two.”
“Really? When we first got here, we didn’t think we’d need one. Better to be prepared, don’t you think?” Damian said snidely, raising an eyebrow at his father.
Bruce groaned, walking over and opening one of the boxes.
“I walked into that one.” He grumbled, tearing open the package and swabbing his cheek.
Damian smirked, taking the other tube and passing it to Adrien.
“Swab the insides of your cheek and put it back in the tube.” Damian instructed.
Adrien nodded, doing as instructed and handing the sealed tube back to Damian.
Damian took both tubes, putting them in the provided packaging.
“Can you take care of this, Clark?” Damian asked, sure that he would get the hint.
Clark nodded, giving Damian a smile.
“No problem!” He said, taking the package and walking out the door.
Damian just hoped none of the Parisians in the room noticed him walk towards the roof and not the elevators.

How do you feel about the possibility of Sheila not being Jason's biological mother? I heard that some fans have interpreted Sheila's final words "he must have really loved his mother" to be a strong implication that she was in fact not his biological mom. Also, if we're being honest there were hardly any evidence to prove it save for Bruce noting that Jason had her eyes and Willis having her contacts (unless I'm misremembering things).
I just think it's interesting to entertain the idea that maybe, Jason's actual mother could still be alive. And that she is actually Sharmin Rosen, the first potential mom. Like looking back all Batman did was ask her if she was ever in Gotham to which she said no (she might have been lying for confidentiality/she and Willis met outside of Gotham) but like it's a pretty vague answer to an equally vague question. And afair Bruce didn't even explain why he asked her the question in the first place. Sheila could have assisted in her birth that's why she recognized Jason when they first met and also why Willis had her contacts.
And this theory just added so much new hc about Willis and I'm really interested to know your opinion about this.
i think starlin did intend for it to remain a bit vague, but this part of the theory is a bit silly...
more evidence would be in how shiva struggled to say "no" when asked about the parentage, for example (looking at newer comics you could say it relates to cass, but then it opens the door to the popular headcanon that they're siblings by this virtue; which i personally do not really care for). as you said, there's also the fact that there's actually not much to prove that it's sheila, and she is rather opportunistic from what we know. so sharmin does preserve as a potential candidate too and you could argue that the mystery remains unsolved.
but in the grand scheme of things, does it really matter? i always read sheila saying "he must have really loved his mother" to be about catherine. sheila, jason's biological parent or not, simply did not consider herself his mother, and so she was truly not. catherine was, because she's the one who cared for him and chose this role. and in seeking a mother out, jay was looking for this lost connection; as he always often finds himself to be, he was relapsing to the bargaining stage of grief. at the same time, he wanted something real, tangible, and stable, which a genetic relation seemed to provide. alas, we know that the blood (of the covenant) is thicker than water (of the womb.) that's also why i imagine this marginal space for theories has not been explored in comics (and i pray it never does); because who was jay's bio parent never mattered. at all.

multiples of 6 for kai and will!!
6. how have they changed in the last year? how about the last five years?
kai: in the last year, i think kai has started to become more open about how they feel and have gotten better (at least a little) at communicating with people. in the past 5 fears they've changed a lot. 5 years ago they emancipated themself from the foster system and has been through a Lot Of Shit. they've definitely grown, i think for the better
will: i think will has been stuck in a routine for a while now, only recently being broken by coming to lost. even like, 6 months ago he was pretty different. he was alone for a pretty long time and didn't let himself open up to people, but now he has started to
12. how have they altered their body? piercings, tattoos, biohacks, or other modifications—anything. why (or why not) did they (or someone else) make those changes?
kai: absolutely covered in tattoos, mostly done themself. they're friends with a few artists so they also have some done "professionally." they have a lot of piercings in their ears and also their eyebrow, nostril, septum, and lip! they did this because it looks tight as fuck
will: will doesn't have any tattoos or piercings! he likes them on other people, but personally doesn't want any
18. what dish brings back the best memories for them?
kai: beef ramen that their grandma would make them when they were sick as a kid <3
will: sunday morning breakfast - scrambled eggs, bacon, & biscuits. he and his family would always eat breakfast together on sundays, even after he got married to his husband! it was their weekly ritual
24. are they close to any family members?
kai: he was very close with his grandma before she passed bc she was the one who raised him. they're an only child and didn't know their parents so they're not close w any biological family. he does think of the party as family though <3
will: he was very close with his parents and siblings until he left his hometown. he hasn't been in contact with them for over a decade
30. how do they handle confrontation?
kai: immediately squares up and tries to out-confront the other person. they also may try to lie their way out of a situation depending on the type of confrontation
will: tries to diffuse the situation and listen to the other person. unless they're wrong, in which case he will roast their ass
36. how do they fidget?
kai: always tapping out a song on their fingers, tapping their toes, picking at their jewlery and clothes
will: taking things apart and putting them back together, playing with his hair and beard
42. can they dance?
kai: absolutely not, unless moshing and intense arm swinging counts
will: enough to get by but not enough to tell someone else what to do
48. do they relate to anyone in their group? conversely, which person do they relate to the least?
kai: i think kai relates the most to nettle, but also sees parts of himself in bo and nox (all autistic party will have some overlaps lol). in general, i think they relate the least to bo bc they are really such different ppl. based on height alone
will: cass because they're both older and are generally tired of everyone's shit, also morel bc of how matter of fact they are. probably relate the least to divine because of. everything about her lmao
54. how important is money in their life? do they save up for ages, or spend quickly?
kai: thinks being anticapitalist is an excuse to be absolutely terrible with money. they are so chaotic with their spending and probably don't have a credit card because it's supporting a predatory system
will: actually knows how to save up money and reasonably spend in order to keep enough in case of emergencies
60. what do they have faith in? what keeps them believing?
kai: above all has faith in themself. they've made it this far, so there's no reason to not keep going
will: believes in good always conquering evil, even when it doesn't feel that way. hope is a driving force for him
66. which fruit do they like most?
kai: dragonfruit!
will: granny smith apples!
send me character asks!

it's a small world after all
Pairing: Jason Todd x Marinette Dupain-Cheng
Rating: G | Ao3 | TW: - | WC: 2.1k
Jason brings his fiancee home to meet his family. She gets along great with everyone! There's just one problem… They've met her before.
Jason squeezed Marinette’s hand gently and smiled reassuringly at her.
“They’ll love you, I promise. And if any of them offend you, let me know. If you get tired or overwhelmed, tell me, and we’ll leave–whenever it is.”
She patted his wrist. “You can relax, Jay. I’m sure I’ll be fine. You’re more nervous than I am,” she giggled.
Jason opened the door and they stepped into Wayne Manor’s deserted foyer.
He led her down hallways till they reached an empty room set up with gymnastics and trapeze equipment. “My older brother–”
“Dick!” Marinette exclaimed, watching the acrobat flip towards them. He twisted and stared.
“Dick, it’s Marinette! Remember my Nonna Gina would bring me with her while she visited Pop Haly? And you’d take me for rides on Zitka?” Her blue eyes lit up as she reminisced about her childhood visits to Haly’s Circus.
“Mari?” Dick came running up and hugged Jason’s girlfriend.
Jason frowned.
“Mari! It is you! What are you doing here?”
“I’m meeting Jason’s family as his fiancee. So you’re his older brother, huh?”
“I am, as much as he hates to admit it,” Dick grinned and ruffled his hair, and Jason slapped his hand away.
“Congrats on getting Jason to let us meet you! How’d you two meet?”
“Nonna introduced us, of course. I still don’t know all the details because those two like giggling about their little secret adventures behind my back, but it was some life-threatening situation, of course.”
“Of course,” Dick nodded.
His phone buzzed and Dick excused himself to answer the urgent call.
Jason led Mari to the next sibling. “It’s not personal if he doesn’t like you; he hates everyone,” Jason warned. “Don’t let the sword fool you; he’s just protective of our family.”
Marinette stepped cautiously into the old art studio.
“Ukht!”
“Akhi altifl!” Marinette swept Damian into a warm hug. “You’re Jay’s Little Demon, huh? I should have guessed when he said ‘sword’,” she grinned. “But I thought you were with your ummi, what happened?” she frowned and pulled away to look him over critically.
“Tt. Ummi sent me to Father. You are marrying Todd? You could do worse, I suppose,” he sniffed.
“Thanks, bat altifl. That actually makes a lot of sense,” she muttered under her breath. “Bat altifl, Batman…”
“How do you know my little brother, who has not been out of one of our sights since he came here from the League?!” demanded Jason, thoroughly confused.
They both looked at him unimpressed. “My maman is good friends with Talia al Ghul, as they used to work together. I visited the League often when I got older, and Dami and I are quite good cousins, I would say.”
“Tt. Not blood cousins,” Damian took pity on Jason’s breaking brain.
“I had a good friend there before Damian was born, but she left a while ago. I was overjoyed for her sake; her training was…” She shook her head sadly.
Jason blew out a breath and shook his head. “Of course you know two of my siblings. You always know everyone somehow, and I don’t understand it,” he muttered as he led her down yet another hallway.
Mari dropped his hand and tackled a shadow. “Cass!”
“Of course, you know Cass, too,” sighed Jason, leaning against the wall as he watched the two embrace and break into body language and some spoken communication.
~~~
“Now there’s only B and Replacement left to meet; they should be home from work soon,” said Jason after Mari met Babs, whom she did not know, much to Jason’s relief. “I suppose you’ll be Timbourine’s long-lost sister or B’s goddaughter? You’d better not be B’s daughter, is all I can say. That would be a little too weird, even for this family.”
Mari giggled. “I’m 99% sure that I am not biologically related to your dad. Oh no.”
Jason turned to her, a little panicked after the events of the day. “What is it?”
She smiled innocently up at him. “Nothing, I just remembered something I forgot to do. I’m a little hair-brained because I knew I was going to meet your family.”
Bruce and Tim walked in the door as the couple descended the staircase.
“Mari, this is Bruce, my dad, and Tim, my brother. B, Timtam, this is Marinette, my fiancee.”
Bruce smiled happily at Jason calling him ‘dad’. “Hello, Marinette. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Thank you, you as well,” she smiled and shook his hand. “I told Jay it was better to meet before the wedding, but he said if we met after the wedding I couldn’t be scared off! I’m still here, though, so I think he was just being dramatic,” she winked conspiratorially.
Tim stepped forward and took Mari’s hand. “Hi, I’m Tim Drake. Do you have any embarrassing photos or stories about Jason?”
She grinned evilly. “Plenty, but we’ve got loads of time to share them. I hear your family is awfully fond of blackmail.”
Alfred announced dinner was ready, and the family gathered around the dining table. They got into a slight scuffle as to who would sit beside Mari, especially as Jason wouldn’t budge from her left-hand side.
Damian won the privilege of sitting on Mari’s right, and Dick and Cass sat opposite her. The others scattered to their usual seats.
Bruce shook out his napkin, frowning in puzzlement at his children’s strange antics. “Have you met my children before, perhaps?” he asked Marinette.
“Some of them. Cass and Dami I met in the League, and Dick and I used to play together at Haly’s when it was in Europe before they came to America.”
“The League…?”
“Of Assassins,” Mari finished cheerfully. “My mother used to work with their mothers, and I often trained during summers at a League base with them. Also, I know you’re Batman, just so we can get the elephant out of the room. I love Zitka, but she would make eating a bit squished,” Mari flashed a smirk at Dick, ignoring Bruce speedrunning the 5 stages of grief.
(Why had he thought Mari was a perfectly lovely young woman and why had he been so pleased when Jason introduced them, again??)
“Don’t worry, I won’t do anything about your little secret,” she pledged. “I figured it out because Dami would never pass up an opportunity to–mmph!”
Damian shoved a bun in her mouth and glared at her. “Don’t say another word if you value your life,” he threatened.
Mari removed the bun and smiled sweetly at him. “But I don’t, bat altifl. I have 0 self-preservation instincts whatsoever and throw myself into threatening situations on the regular. Besides, I think I could take you on and win.”
She turned back to Bruce. “So, your youngest son here could never resist telling me all about his father and how amazing he was and how he was going to inherit the mantle of Robin, although somehow that came out as being renamed Robin. Anyways, baby Dami was adorable,” she cooed.
Damian pouted and she kept an eye out for flying swords after supper.
~~~
When Jason took Marinette back home that evening, she pulled him inside and sat him down. “Okay, I have a couple things to tell you, please hear me out to the end, okay?”
“Okay,” he took her hands in his and softly stroked the backs of her hands with his calloused thumbs.
“You know how you joked that I’d better not be Tim’s long-lost sister?”
“...you aren’t.”
Mari winced. “My full name is Marie Annette Drake.”
“You’re serious?”
“Yeah, I’m Jack and Janet Drake’s firstborn. I went with them to Paris for my seventh birthday and an archeological conference. My tutor was half-French and spoke it around me, so I grew up bilingual. It was easy enough to hide from my parents and let them fly back to Gotham without me. Someone found me, and I ended up adopted by the Dupain-Chengs.
“Timmy was three and left with a nanny, and I always felt guilty for leaving him behind.”
“Oh, Pixie…I’m sorry you had to go through all that.” Jason slid closer and wrapped his arms around her. “Thank you for telling me.”
“Do you think Tim would like me as a sister? I know I’ll be his sister-in-law, but would he appreciate me telling him I’m biologically related to him? Would he hate me for leaving him and never telling him, preferring to never know about me? He looks happy with you guys.”
“Well, Timbrie’s abandonment issues would not like being told another person left him, but he’s logical, so once he got past that, he’d see you weren’t leaving him but your parents, and you were only a kid yourself. Who knows what goes on in that kid’s head, though,” he shuddered.
She groaned and dropped her head to her knees.
~~~~
The next week she texted Tim.
M: Hey, it’s Marinette. Can we talk?
T: Sure, what time?
M: I think you’re busier than me. When works for you?
T: I have 30 min on Tuesday from 12 to 12:30
M: Perfect, thanks so much. See you at WE?
T: I’ll tell my PA you’re expected in my office
M: Should I bring lunch?
T: Batburger and jokerized fries?
M: You got it ;)
~
At 11:59, Marinette arrived at the top floor of WE and made her way to Tim’s private office.
Tam Fox, his PA, greeted her and let her in.
Marinette gave him his lunch and took her own, sitting across the desk from him in a comfy chair.
“So, why the meeting?” asked Tim around a mouthful of his burger.
“Er…how much do you remember of your childhood?”
He narrowed his eyes. “Enough. Why?”
“Do you remember playing with a girl called Marie?”
“I have a few memories of her, yes. Again, why?”
“I was Marie.”
Tim blinked. “Oh, were you Mrs. Mac’s granddaughter or something?”
“Mrs. Mac? Was that your nanny’s name? No, I’m…your sister.”
Tim blinked again and swallowed. “What?”
"My biological parents are Jack and Janet Drake. You’re my little brother.”
“You’re serious?” Tim shook his head in disbelief.
“I am. Jack and Janet took me to Paris for my seventh birthday. I stayed behind because I couldn’t stand being with them anymore. I got adopted by a lovely couple there. Aunt T wiped any traces of my existence as a Drake, but if you want proof, I can call her. I’m sure she has a backup somewhere. I’m willing to take a blood or DNA test or answer any questions you have. Or, if you’d rather, we can ignore this and pretend I’m only your sister-in-law.” Marinette gulped for air after she nervously monologued without stopping to breathe.
“I’m sorry for leaving you behind, Tim. I always felt guilty about that.”
“Tell me stuff only my family would know, then,” Tim challenged.
“You were born on July 19th. Your middle name is Jackson, which is a little on the nose in my opinion. You love photography-- even as a kid you loved looking at photos and playing pretend photographer. Your bedroom paint was robin’s-egg-blue– ironic, huh? Jack and Janet’s walls were an ugly mustard-coloured wallpaper. I taught you how to make KD, but I never let you make it by yourself in case you got hurt. Your secret teddy bear was named Mr. Cuddles. The Drakes’ motto was ‘Never bring shame on the Drake name’.”
“I never told anyone about Mr. Cuddles,” Tim said slowly.
”I gave him to you when you were born,” Marinette reminisced.
~~~~~
The DNA test came back, confirming Tim and Marinette as biological siblings. “Hey, I’m the only one with a bio sibling,” realized Tim.
“I’ll be Mari’s favourite now,” he boasted to the others, sure he finally had the secret code to win the quiet competition to become Marinette’s favourite.
A throat cleared behind him, and he turned to see Jason and Mari standing there, Jason’s arms crossed over his chest.
“Sorry, my favourite is Jason,” Marinette defended him.
He very maturely stuck his tongue out at the others.
“Wait, Jason’s marrying my sister!” Tim exclaimed in dawning horror. “I’m feeling the urge to deliver a shovel talk.”
“I’m your brother!” said Jason.
(“And that’s not weird at all, Tim’s sister marrying Tim’s brother,” said Babs to Cass as they watched the altercation.)
“I’m shockingly gonna agree with Demon Spawn here and say blood comes first,” Tim said.
Jason gasped. “Betrayal!”
Damian came charging, sword drawn, and the room devolved into chaos.
Mari stood back and snickered at the chaos with Plagg.

Maddie is Tim's Bio Mom
Source: #ghosts-and-bats
A
GUYS
GUYS
SK
What what
L
?
A
WHAT IS TIM IS BIOLOGICALLY MADDIE'S SON????
SK
Omg
A
He's older than Jazz and Danny, having been born before she married Jack
Because Jack and Janet totally seem like the kind of parents who would adopt for appearance's sake and then be horrible parents and pay off CPS
This is a Good Parents Jack and Maddie Fenton only story
L
Yeah, wouldn’t that suck to find out as Tim tho
A
Right?
Maddie only knows who adopted him, so she knows he's Tim Drake, but she's not allowed to make contact and has no clue anything is wrong
He finds out when going through some of his parents’ old papers
He's rattled, but curious
So, he reaches out to them, something about touring their lab and a potential business partnership
And so, they meet
SK
And he finds out he has younger siblings who could definitely use his help?
L
I have so many ideas but brain no translation
EP
Danny: This guy looks like me, but has posh manners and is talking about becoming business partners with my parents, despite everyon thinking they're crazy...Oh no, did the Frootloop make a stable clone?
Danny: Look, he may say he cares about you and he's a good man, but he's not. He's a rich basket case who can't let go of the past
Tim: I know, but he's trying his best
Danny: He really isn't
(neither realizing the other is talking about a completely different one percenter)
A
Tim is a little confused as to why his little brother is trying to sabotage his relationship with Bruce
Like
What could he hope to gain by this?
another thought
Maddie totally tracked down a Lazarus pit to study for her thesis
She met Talia
For that single summer they started a fierce rivalry
L
I like where this is going
A
Tim has to call in his Mom due to a ghost problem in Gotham (this is post reveal, she's better with ghosts now)
And the Wayne's sit there and watch her kick butt
Damien is unexpectedly quiet and wary around her
"That's my Mom," Tim brags with a smirk after she finished and starts clean up
And Damien hisses
"you're related to MADDISON???"
He steps back and gives Tim a long, considering look
Then nods
"Acceptable, Fenton"
Then he leaves
He refuses to call Tim a Drake again
SK
Lol yes I love this so much!
A
This is especially good because I'm pretty sure it's canon that Maddie is a black belt in at least one martial art
She is fully combat capable
She's a genius inventor
She is every inch Talia's equal
What she lacks in lethality, she more than makes up for in ingenuity
SK
I love Talia and Maddie being enemies, but please also consider:
What I'd they're exes?
A
how did you read my mind????
What if Talia still misses her???
What if Damian has to call him brother now?
SK
Perfection✨✨
A
Talia joins the "let's kill Jack" club with Vlad
Danny was excited to fight ninjas at first but now they're boring and such a bother
Why does everyone want his dad dead?
Jason is impressed and deeply intimidated by Tim's Mom
He's heard stories about her at the cradle
She put the fear of God into Ra's
SK
This keeps getting better
A
And when she finds out about what happened during Brucequest...
She might need to go visit the old man and see how he's doing 😁
Pru calls Tim after it's over and absolutely gushes about his Mom
She has a new goal in life
Be Maddie Fenton
Ra's is so upset he let Tim get away in the end
What do you think is Maddie's maiden name? Or did Jack take her name?
SK
I kinda like the idea that Jack took her name
A
Right?
Damian is very wary of her and looks like a cat whose fur got rubbed the wrong way when she's around
He finds her very unsettling
Dick is in awe
This woman can get Damian to do things with minimal fuss
“Teach me your WAYS!” He cries.
Cass likes her a lot and is very curious about her homemade equipment
Jazz isn't sure what to think about this whole thing
She sure did get a big brother out of it
It's very disorienting for her tbh
She's not quite sure how to process the whole thing and it keeps taking longer because stuff just won't stop happening
Poor Danny is being worn thin and just wants a nap
Then he realizes that neither Vlad or Talia have blackmail on him
So, he tattles
And Maddie is very upset that there are people trying to kill her husband
SK
She protecc
S
Talia gets a very angry phone call
A
Vlad is flat out cut out of her life
She gets a restraining order on him for her entire family
She pulls obscure League lore knowledge out of her back pocket and declares a personal war on Talia in a way that makes Damian pale and Talia shocked
Ra's has already "stepped down due to health reasons"
So, she's essentially challenging Talia for control of the league over the crime of trying to kill her husband

Those Who Are Kind
1| 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 (you are here) | next
Summary: Siblings are the last thing on Marinette’s mind as she begins her frantic search for Tikki. Really, she can’t even consider them siblings, not yet. But they’re along for the ride, whether she wants them to be or not.
Duke doesn’t know what to make of the current situation.
He’s always known that the Waynes are crazy, insane, even, but he loves them all the same, in the begrudging, cautious way he cannot shake. (This approach has served him well over the years, allowing him to avoid multiple schemes that Tim or Jason typically start up to rile up Damian. From there, everything is guaranteed to snowball. The only time things get really bad is when Cass gets involved.) To him, it’s always been a bit uncanny how similar all the brothers looked, despite the fact that none of them shared blood. All of them had the same sharp jaw, piercing blue eyes, chiselled cheekbones and defined bodies. Only Tim and Damian differed slightly, with Tim having a dancer’s figure instead of that of a body builder or demolitions expert, and Damian having green eyes instead of blue. It’s also disconcerting that everybody the Waynes are more intimately involved with have some sort of alter ego. He often joked with other members of the Justice League that heroism ran in Bruce’s blood.
With the new addition of Marinette to their family, he has to say that he’s been proven right.
A girl who had absolutely nothing to do with the Waynes in any capacity other than the fact that she and Bruce share blood becoming a hero. The leader of a team. Fighting supervillains at the age of thirteen.
He’s very, very glad that he was not adopted by or shared blood with Bruce. He doesn’t think he could have handled being a superhero at age thirteen. He can barely handle being Signal now some days, and he’s an adult. The amount of responsibility on Marinette’s shoulders is difficult to understand. To be the sole wielder of magic that can revert an entire city back to its original state. To bring people back from the dead.
Dick is strangely quiet. A car is driving them from a pit stop near a zeta tube to Marinette’s hospital.
Hands down, Dick is the most sane male of the Wayne family, not including Alfred. But there are times when Duke sees the weight that he carries. All the times that he refuses to talk about the burdens that he bears. Moving forward with a smile when he’s in pain. When he gets in a mood like this, he’s hard to read. But given the circumstances, it’s fairly clear exactly what’s bothering him.
“He’s known about her this entire time,” Dick says, tinted windows allowing Duke a glance at his expression, carefully devoid of any telling emotions. “Nineteen years. He kept her a secret.”
“It’s Bruce.” The man is known for keeping secrets.
“Yeah, but Marinette is family. She should have been, at least. And now…”
Now she’s all alone when she should be surrounded by people that love her, praising her for her victory, for how she shouldered so much responsibility at such a young age. But by bringing her to a hospital in America, she’s been cut off from her team, and any support system she should have had is gone.
“You and her,” Duke says, looking for a way to comfort him. “You’ll get along. You’re similar, after all.” After they brought Gabriel and Lila to the a top security prison and sent Emilie to a hospital that couldn’t figure out what was wrong with her, they got two files from Tim. One detailing Ladybug and all of her exploits. The second, detailing Marinette’s life.
Duke has watched the videos. Has watched how Ladybug leads by example, comes up with the plan and begins the execution. How she shoulders more battles than she should.
He’s seen Marinette pull people together with a smile on her face, even while she’s running on empty after a strenuous akuma attack.
Dick and Marinette are alike.
“We’re too much alike,” Dick says. “I suspected for a long time that Bruce had another kid that he wasn’t telling us about, but I thought that if he was keeping her away from us, then maybe she’d have a shot at leading a good life. A normal life. Not the one she got. Sabine’s— Bruce’s biological daughter shouldn’t be somebody like me. She deserves better.”
Duke is acutely aware that Dick’s parents were also murdered, but whatever relation he had with Sabine is something he’s never been willing to talk about. There are pictures in his apartment of a petite Asian woman with a soft smile standing next to him, but whenever asked about her, Dick never gives a straight answer.
“Nobody has the ability to change the past.” Duke claps a hand on his friend’s shoulder. He sags imperceptibly under the weight.
Well— actually, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities, given the fact that magic, aliens, and metahumans all coexisted, supplemented by the fact that multiple members of Marinette’s team do have the ability to travel back in time, but that’s another matter entirely. There’s not a lot of information on the Miraculous, and all of their knowledge is coming from Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Zatara, and even the three of them don’t know everything.
“But you have the chance to do good by her. Be a good older brother, like I know you are.”
A thin smile appears on Dick’s face. “She’s going to need more than just one good influence on her life. And Damian is better, but you saw how he looked at her when Bruce brought her through the Zeta tubes. Tim’s not going to react well either, and Jason is a wild card. She’s not going to get the support she needs if she stays with us.”
Duke crosses his arms, knees brushing up against the back of the car seat. “The only person whose actions you’re responsible for are your own. Don’t worry about them. If they don’t like her, they’ll just avoid her.”
That’s certainly not true— all of the members of the Wayne family are notorious for going hard after all of the things they don’t like. But... it’s comforting to hear. Sometimes temporary and known lies are much nicer than harsh realities.
#
She’s gone.
All of her belongings are missing, the IV needle is hanging from the stand, the window open, and Marinette is missing from her bed.
At least she left a note?
Be back soon — Marinette
“Great,” Duke mutters under his breath. “Another incredibly vague, cryptic Wayne.”
Dick’s face turns to ash. “Her legs. Her head. She can’t go out so soon. Hold on, maybe Barbara can pull up some footage.”
“On the bright side, there’s no blood,” Duke says.
“That’s not a bright side.”
“It is,” Duke argues. “She fell in the worst places possible, right on top of that broken glass casket. If she’s not bleeding that clearly means she didn’t pull her stitches on her mad escape out.”
When Ladybug fell, they’re not exactly sure what happened, because the screen showed Ladybug collapsing almost gracefully. When they arrived on the scene, she flickered between Ladybug and Marinette as her earrings beeped. Her legs were slashed from falling on the glass with a seemingly unnatural force— simply falling would not have garnered cuts that large— and her head was twisted at an odd angle, debris bloodied beneath her.
Somehow, the Miraculous Cure seemed to be working backwards. Not from the epicenter out, but rather from the edge of the damage, in. It worked slowly, every mile taking minutes instead of mere seconds. It hadn’t happened before in any of the battles.
It was useful in apprehending Hawkmoth and Pavona, who were still knocked out. But Marinette, even after the Miraculous Cure washed over her, didn’t get healed. Her injuries didn’t revert. There was still a gash on her stomach from Hawkmoth’s cane, still muscles exposed on the back of her legs and blood on her neck. When she was first brought in, the doctors feared that she may be permanently incapacitated.
Good at keeping to her word at least. She came swinging through the window with worry on her face and grief in her eyes.
“I need to go back to Paris,” she says.
Dick will undoubtedly say no. He’s a very protective person, and Marinette is the center of his current efforts.
But she doesn’t look injured. He eyes her stance. She’s standing with no effort, walks with no limp. No hospital dress, no blood on her neck, no bruises in all of the places he was expecting them to be. Marinette does not look like she just faced a world ending threat less than twenty four hours ago. She certainly doesn’t look like she’s permanently lost the use of her legs. There’s the familiar Wayne Brand Stubbornness in her eyes— no way she’s not Bruce’s kid— that tells him that she’s going to get to Paris one way or another, and that they’re either lucky they were even notified in the first place or that she wants to use a resource that they have that she does not have access to. It’s fairly obvious what that resource is, considering that Paris is nine hours away by any normal plane and it sounds like she wants to get there in minutes, and not hours. Duke also knows that if they don’t take what she’s offering now, she’ll use an alternative method that definitely won’t be as nice or clear cut.
He jumps in before Dick can say anything. “We’ll take you as long as we go with you every step of the way.”
Oh, he’s going to get in so much trouble for doing this. Dick is looking at him with his Disapproving Dad glare, and he can imagine Bruce going into brooding silence when he hears that Duke allowed this to happen.
Marinette’s lips pinch together, but she nods. “Where’s the nearest zeta tube?”
#
Barbara gets Dick’s text and sighs in frustration.
She’s already got her hands full with watching Tim, who’s spiralling trying to find information about the Miraculous, muttering under his breath in the way he does when he gets a particularly hard case to crack. He’s gone through six cups of coffee in the last hour, and he kicked off his research with a combination of 5 Hour Energy, Monster, three packets of sugar, and 10 caffeine shots. Soon, she’ll have to start limiting his caffeine intake, but right now it’s clear that any attempt to get him to stop his research now will fail spectacularly. At least she’s not in charge of Damian and Jason. Wherever they are, they’re definitely on the move and not happy.
She never thought she'd be able to say she’s happy about being paralyzed from the waist down, but she certainly doesn’t want to be chasing after one of the two hellions. Cass definitely has her hands full and whoever’s watching Jason— wait, is anybody even watching Jason? Typically Roy gets stuck with Jason-sitting duty, but he’s been out for a while.
Barbara groans. Jason is probably on his own, wreaking havoc.
Great.
She’ll deal with that later, even though she has no doubt she’ll regret that decision, but if Marinette is gone from her room, Dick needs the footage, and somebody needs to find where she is. The nurse put in her latest report that her legs were almost healed and that she didn’t show any signs of a concussion, but Marinette was in bad shape when she got admitted to the hospital. Even though Barbara doubts that there was any misdiagnosis, given that Bruce sprung for a VIP room in one of the pricier hospitals, in a world where magic and aliens are present, who knows what’s true or not.
“Tibet!” Tim jumps up from his hunched over position for the first time in hours. “I’m going to Tibet, the closest zeta tubes are three hours by car away, but I can get somebody to loan Wayne Industries a helicopter while I’m over there.”
“Sit down, Tim.” Barbara takes her glasses off and pinches the bridge of her nose. Why can’t Bruce rein in his children? Why is she the one stuck babysitting? “Marinette left her hospital room.”
That certainly gets Tim to put the brakes on his movements towards the zeta tube in the bat cave.
“What?”
“I said, she left her hospital room. Just sit down while I send the information over. It’s not going to do you any good to rush into things anyways.”
A quick review of the surrounding CCTV shows that Marinette didn’t travel far, just around the hospital. She’s looking for something, calling out for it, too. Barbara grabs that file and slows it down so she can read her lips. “Dickie? Do she and Dick know each other already?”
A quick text back to Dick reveals that Marinette has already returned to the room and—
Oh, hell.
“Well,” Barbara pushes her laptop away from her, letting Tim watch the files she’s pulled up. “It looks like we’re taking a family trip to Paris.”
#
Somehow, Marinette almost manages to lose all four of them within the first four minutes of roaming around Paris.
Luckily, their family has an almost absurd amount of luck between all of them (not all of it good) and the person Barbara was half sure she could only find in prison, beating up Hawkmoth and Pavona, runs into Marinette on the streets and herds her back to them.
“Lose something?” Jason asks, arm slung around Marinette’s shoulder, the smaller, younger girl looking rather upset at having her plans thrown off.
“I told them that they could follow me,” Marinette argues without much real bite. It’s not my fault if they can’t keep up, is the clear meaning of her statement.
Again, Barbara is very impressed that the barely nineteen year old somehow managed to shake off vigilantes with decades of experience with ease. But it is, at least, partially due to her disability. Every time she goes out in her wheelchair, her heart aches a little, especially as the civilians she passes eye her with pity. Barbara doesn’t want pity. Doesn’t need pity. She shouldn’t feel anything when people look at her like she can’t keep up, because she can keep up.
Most of the time, anyways.
It doesn’t matter how she uses her tech skills to modify her wheelchair and deck it out with all the equipment she could ever need, or that she can easily get up to speeds rivalling sports cars for short periods of time before the power runs out. When she’s stuck in her wheelchair, she loses the maneuverability she had when she wasn’t paralyzed.
She couldn’t follow Marinette through the alleyways because she was stuck. Barbara was the one who noticed her escape first. If only she were more capable, she could have—
But it’s okay now. Jason ran into her. Marinette is back with them.
“I need to search for something, and none of you can help.” She’s not intentionally being rude when she says it, and if anything, sounds apologetic. Barbara sees the similarities between Marinette and Bruce. It makes a lot of sense that the two of them are father and daughter, when the two of them are so insistent on keeping major issues to themselves. Marinette twists herself out from underneath Jason’s arm, clutching her purse. Her head doesn’t move, but her eyes are wild.
“We can help,” soothes Duke, ever the voice of reason. “You know who we are.”
“And I’m guessing you’ve all either deduced who I am or have been told my identity,” counters Marinette. “Which means you should know why I can’t have you helping me.”
Barbara and Duke exchange pointed glances.
“That’s not really clear to us, actually,” says Barbara. Marinette isn’t moving, but the way her shoulders tense makes her believe that the younger girl is ready to run at the drop of a hat.
A small group of people from the parade on the streets tumbles into the alleyway they’re resting in. They smell like cheap booze and sweat.
“What are all of you doing in this alley?” one says, after he finished vomiting up his last (very colorful) meal. “You should be out there partying with the rest of us! Celebrating Ladybug and her team.”
“Fuck Hawkmoth and Pavona,” says another solemnly, with neon face paint and pigtails with glitter string intertwined. “Their defeat should be celebrated by even the darkest souls.”
Jason, easily amused by their antics, looks very willing to join them. “Yeah Marinette, we should be celebrating Ladybug not—”
As one, everybody looks at the place where Marinette was, just moments ago. The alley is decidedly empty of a small asian girl with blue eyes and pigtails.
“Fuck,” Jason curses.
“Fuck is right,” Duke agrees, placing a hand over his temple.
#
Marinette manages to disappear for three hours.
Three full hours.
“She’s good,” Tim says, typing into the holographic computer embedded into his sleeve.
Paris’ CCTVs are painfully easy to hack into, though he suspects that the lack of attention to them may have to do with the fact that everybody in the city is celebrating. Policemen, politicians, artists, students, scientists—  people from all walks of life are in the streets today, screaming and shouting and being free for the first time in years.
He spies more than just a few dozen people bawling their eyes out within a few minutes. But that’s not surprising, considering how long Parisians have had to suppress their emotions for.
Dick and Barbara are still in the midst of profiling Marinette, trying to determine the most likely places where she’d stop by, either as Ladybug or herself. All of Ladybug’s usual haunts are decidedly devoid of the young heroine, though Tim does manage to catch a good amount of footage of the other young heroes like Carapace and Rena Rouge, who are most definitely in a relationship based on their makeout session on top of the eiffel tower (one of the first places Tim checked), Viperion, who seems to be the only one from Ladybug’s team to be seeking out the crowd which seems rather atypical considering that the hero never frequented interviews or was spotted on news coverage all that frequently,  and Chat Noir and Queen Bee who Jason insisted were in a relationship as well, though the rest of them believed they were only embracing each other out of comfort— Chat Noir looks like he’s been crying for hours, and Queen Bee looks like she’s barely holding it together.
Ryuko has not shown up on camera once today. Neither has Ladybug.
The second place Tim checks is the bakery. She is not there either, though another girl is. It doesn’t seem like the girl has any ill intent, but Duke is more than happy to pull up past files to see if she’s been there before, if she has any reason to be there, and who exactly she is.
Just as Barbara and Dick are debating the chances that Marinette would be at Le Grande Paris, she walks past one of the cameras focused on Tom & Sabine’s Boulangerie. Tim has the system rigged up so that any facial matches for Marinette automatically alerts the room. He hadn’t been able to replicate that with Ladybug’s face for some bizarre reason which is why he, Barbara, Dick, and Jason are manually combing through the areas where Dick and Barbar think she may be (magic is why, but Tim has always believed that technology can be used against and with most forms of magic) so it’s lucky that she enters as Marinette.
“Kagami Tsurugi,” Duke says triumphantly. “She visited often when Tom and Sabine were still alive. Potential candidate to represent France or Japan for Sabre in the next Olympics. Definitely friends with Marinette.”
“Thank God,” sighs Dick. “Now let’s get over there.”
It’s truly, truly unfortunate that they set up shop quite a distance away from the bakery.
They take too long to arrive.
#
Perhaps it was a mistake, telling Kagami first.
No, not just perhaps. It was a mistake. A bad one.
But Kagami was pushing so hard, and Marinette was so tired and so alone without Tikki at her side, without the knowledge that her parents would be waiting for her. Kagami pushed and pushed and pushed about why the house felt so empty, why there was dust on the floor, why the bakery was closed for so long, and where were Tom and Sabine? Why weren’t they there for the team yesterday, when the battle was won, when they knew how important it was to be there for Adrien who had just lost all three of his parental figures?
The moment the words fall from Marinette's lips, she knows she shouldn’t have revealed it at that moment, because Kagami draws in on herself, lips turning downwards, hands curling into fists.
Kagami has come a long way from the girl she was in lycèe. The thrill of victory is still something she enjoys, but not something she needs to feel secure in her place in the world. She has trouble expressing her emotions, but when it comes down to it, she communicates everything necessary to understand why.
With the news of Tom and Sabine’s death, she withdraws into herself, shifts back into that thirteen year old Marinette first met. Logic  and rationale thrown to the wind in favor of cold anger.
It’s no secret that Ryuko, Ladybug, and Viperion are the main strategists of their team. Viperion, out of his duty of using Second Chance and his ability to keep a level head in the face of constant death. Ladybug out of necessity as her position as team leader and the power of Lucky Charm. Theoretically, the two of them should have been enough. But over the years, Kagami became Marinette's favored confidante; though Ladybug trusts all of her team to keep a tight hold on any information she gives them, Kagami is one of the few who is able to pick apart a given situation and transform the monsters they face into manageable pieces.
Today, it is Kagami who has broken to pieces. Very angry, razor sharp shards that seek to hurt.
“You lie to the media, tell them a pretty tale of how they died due to a break in. Why do you avoid pinning their deaths on Lila as you should? To absolve a quality woman from guilt?”
Marinette can’t look Kagami in the eyes.
Her parents deserved a peaceful death. To pass on in old age, hand in hand. Not looking on as a family member died, in fear of what would happen next for their daughter.
“The police know. The judges know,” Marinette protests weakly, but without much eight behind her words.
Kagami just scoffs. “Tom and Sabine were kind people. To not tell the media what truly happened— that’s preventing Lila from getting the full force of what’s coming to her. What happens if she gets out of prison one day? Without any real deaths to her name, she could just flee to another country to escape it all. And when another person loses their life because of her…”
She doesn’t need to finish her sentence. If somebody else gets injured in any way, shape or form at the hands of Lila Rossi, it’s Marinette’s fault. Marinette gets what Kagami is trying to say. She thinks the same thing, after all.
“My parents would not want their death publicized in that manner.” It’s the truth, but it’s said so weakly that the words come off as little more than a weak defense, and Kagami takes the words and twists their truth.
“You know little of your parents, considering that you’re their daughter.” Kagami stands stock still, not a single extra muscle moving. “Perhaps if you spent more time with them as Marinette instead of unsuccessfully gallivanting around as Ladybug, you’d have realized that Tom and Sabine admire truth above all else, even if it is painful.”
Kagami does not ask a single question about where Marinette was last night, or how Marinette felt over the loss of her parents or when she saw all those she held dear lying still on the ground after Hawkmoth and Pavona’s final attacks. She just purses her lips and sweeps out the door.
And then she’s gone, and Marinette is alone once more.
#
The bakery is bone-achingly quiet.
Every step Marinette takes creates such a disturbance in the peace that moving hurts.
But she can’t stay here. She can’t stay here. She does not deserve to stay here. Kagami is right. Marinette was a bad daughter. She could have prevented their death, could have given them justice sooner, could have—
And Marinette can’t breathe. She tries to, she tries so hard to, but she chokes.
She kneels down on the floor— Kagami is right again, the place is dusty, because Marinette couldn’t bring herself to use the living room and kitchen without her parents, could barely bring herself to sleep in her bedroom because she knew that her parents were not sleeping soundly in the bed below hers— and scrabbles at her throat, vision coming in and out.
Her legs burn. She knows that during the final battle, her legs were cut towards the end of it, and they should be healed, she should be okay now, she’s better than this, she’s—
Somebody gathers her in their arms. They smell slightly of Lotus flowers, just like Maman, and cradle her ever so gently.
Marinette’s eyes open— black hair, greyish eyes filled with understanding and love and—
She can breathe again.
She falls asleep.
#
“Cass?” Dick’s eyes widen at her unexpected appearance at Marinette’s home.
“I thought you were on Damian guard duty,” Barbara says, fixating on the red around Marinette’s eyes and the barely dried tear tracks on her face.
“Where’s that Kagami girl?” Jason scuffs his shoes on the hardware floor, silently marking the footprints on the floor and getting a general idea of what occurred before they were able to get here based on Marinette’s current state and the other girl’s absence. “I want to have some words with her.”
Cass inclines her head sharply, eye sparking with anger. Jason’s fists rise unconsciously— Cass rarely gets angry, and whenever she gets angry at a specific person, that means they’ve done something very, very wrong— ready to hunt down Kagami. Marinette sniffles and shifts in Cass’ one armed embrace, to which Cass places a finger over her lip and shakes her head, a universal sign to be quiet.
 Jason scowls but settles down.
They’re quiet as they wait for Marinette to wake.

Reasons the Tangled Series…Was Not that Great.
I just want to say that I really wanted to like this show. I really, really wanted to like this show, but I just couldn’t.
All in all, Tangled series is just not a good story. By the way I refuse to call it Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure, because I just think it is a stupid title, but I think the title change played a bit of a role in the direction the writers suddenly took the series. When I first had seen that they were going to do a series continuing the story of Tangled, I was ecstatic., because Tangled is one of my all time favorite movies. I was excited to see the continuation of two characters I really grew to love, and in some ways even relate to. The show at first started to feel like it was going to be about Rapunzel and Eugene and their adventures. But by the time it got to the end of season 2 there was a but of a shift in the focus of who was playing more of an important role and who was more the side character. It had suddenly felt like Eugene had taken a back seat to the show and was more of a side character and Casandra played more the main character. It felt like the show was trying to force the audience to care about this new character Casandra rather than use the two characters that already had a following from the movie.
Casandra’s motives made no sense.
In the show we find out that Casandra’s biological mother was Gothel. Gothel abandoned Cass for Rapunzel the night Rapunzel was kidnapped when she was a baby. Cass was about 3 or 4 around this time. Cass was taken in by the Captain of the guard and raised Cass as his own. Zhan Tiri then manipulates Cass into being angry at Rapunzel for Gothel’s actions. The motives seem rather weak, for someone like Casandra. Casandra was raised by someone who upheld law and order. Who held onto morals and principles. While, yes, even the strongest can falter as we saw evidently in the episode where the captain was purposely trying to make Eugene fail his test to becoming a guard. Casandra was also shown trying to manipulate Rapunzel from joining the games of strength back in season one. We can see that she can still be misguided and be a bit selfish in her motives. But to completely derail her character and go against everything she was supposed to do which was protect the princess and help guide her to where ever the black rocks were taking her, and completely betray her all for the sake of being mad at Rapunzel for something NEITHER of them had control over, seems rather weak and petty, and an unearned twist in the story line.
Casandra got what she wanted and was still ungrateful.
Casandra all her life wanted the respect of her father and become the captain of the guard. Well, by season two, she pretty much got what she wanted. She was entrusted by the kingdom, ergo, her father, to protect Rapunzel throughout the journey. What else did Casandra want? Ok, yeah, she didn’t have the title of guard yet. But the job she got, they don’t entrust that role to just any shmuk. Did she really think someone like Stan or Pete could have been trusted to do the job that she had to take? No. Stan and Pete are morons. So this job had to be given to someone that knew what they were doing. The captain could have very well said that Casandra is a lady in waiting, and that she needs to stay back in Corona and do what ladies in waiting do. The captain could have been the one to take the princess to where she was going because that is what guards do. They guard the royal family. What else was Casandra expecting? She got exactly what she wanted. She got trust from her dad, to do this job that a high ranking guard would have taken. She got the trust of the king and queen to protect their only heir to the throne who had been missing for 18 years, and Cass still wanted more. Cass complains about being in Rapunzel’s shadow, but Rapunzel in the princess. The princess, on a hierarchical scale, is more important. It didn’t matter who it is, the guards are always going to be more expendable and be considered less important than the royal family. That is literally their job. Casandra was entrusted with one of the most important jobs in the kingdom; protect the princess and heir to the throne. But Cass was still not satisfied.
Eugene had more of a motive to be the one to take the moon stone.
So in season two we find out that Eugene is actually the lost prince and heir to the dark kingdom. King Edmund, Eugene’s king and father, explains that he tried to destroy the moon stone and in the process accidentally killing Eugene’s mom, and nearly killed himself in the process. Edmund then orders everyone in the kingdom to leave including shipping his only child out to safety. Edmund explains to Eugene that their entire lineage was devoted to protecting the world room the moon stone. Eugene not only would have been their next heir to the dark kingdom, but Eugene would also have had the same responsibility. Edmund also mentions that he believed the black rocks led Eugene back to the dark kingdom, and not Rapunzel. It would have made way more sense for Eugene to protect Rapunzel from the moon stone and would have had more motivation to do so. Edmund mentions this. He tells Eugene “Don’t let the same fate befall on the one you love like it did your mother.” It looked like that is where the show was going. Very clearly, yeah, this makes sense. This is what all of season one and most of season two was leading up to. The show even had tipped the audience off that someone was going to betray Rapunzel who was close to her. Eugene was going to take the moon stone to protect Rapunzel and inadvertently betray Rapunzel because the moon stone is evil. But then...no...that’s not what happened because Casandra wants...what exactly? Glory? It just felt like the show took a sudden left turn somewhere because….why? For what purpose did she really need to take the moon stone. Because she is mad at Rapunzel for something Gothel did? It just seemed so last minute. The twist at the send of season two did not feel earned. There wasn’t really anything definitive to say that yeah Cass was going to be the one to really betray Rapunzel and take the moon stone for her own gain. At least Eugene could have started out with good intentions to protect the one he loves, because he had already lost so much due to the moon stone. He lost his mother, he lost his home, and he was abandoned by his father because of the moon stone. It is also in his lineage to protect the world from the moon stone. Eugene would have taken that very seriously and would have done everything possible to protect Rapunzel from harm. We’ve already seen that when Eugene chooses death rather than allow Rapunzel to heal him and live a life of servitude to Gothel in the movie. Cassandra only wants glory. It would have made way more sense for Eugene to push Rapunzel away for her own safety and lock himself away with the moonstone while trying to battle the evil pull that the moon stone has on people who try to control it. Edmund even explained that the moon stone can get inside your head and that’s what happened to him. Overall it would have been much more believable for Eugene to have taken the moon stone. It was Eugene’s kingdom that got destroyed by the moonstone, and it was Eugene’s childhood that got effected by the moonstone, much like Rapunzel’s childhood was effected by the sun stone.
Zhan Tiri would have had more ammo to manipulate Eugene, than Casandra.
Eugene grew up thinking that his parents were explorers and treasure hunters and would find him when they were done traveling the world. But somewhere in his childhood, Eugene let go of that idea. When Edmund trie s to call Eugene “son” Eugene promptly tells Edmund, “you do not get to call me son.” This showed some one the first signs that Eugene is feeling resentful about his fathers abandonment. Eugene also tells Rapunzel that no Edmund is not his father, and that Edmund is a “strange man who can’t keep his thought to himself.” Eugene is rather upset and holds a grudge against his father and at first really doesn’t was anything to do with Edmund. Eugene tries to get rid of Edmund when Edmund shows up at Corona seemingly out of now where. Eugene doesn’t even call Edmund dad at first. Eugene calls him by his name. He doesn’t see Edmund as his father and makes that rather clear several times. Eugene doesn’t even fully come to forgive Edmund and really understand why Edmund did what he did until the last episode when Edmund is under the influence of the mind trap. Zhan Tiri could have easily used that to manipulate Eugene and it would have made more sense and would have been more believable because Eugene did not have anyone to adopt him and take him in. Eugene was left to pretty much left to raise himself. Eugene didn’t really have anyone that truly cared about him In the movie Tangled when Rapunzel says that she like Eugene Fitzherbert much more than Flynn Rider, Eugene tell her that she’d be the first. Meaning he didn’t feel that anyone reaTangled Adventure made it less about the two main characters and more about Rapunzel and her friendship with her handmaiden. When the series was introduced, it seemed like it was going to be about both Eugene and Rapunzel, and that is what I got excited about. I wanted to see my two favorite characters again going on adventures and learning more about them together. While we did learn some new things about Eugene, I just think they were more side notes, rather than anything that played any importance into the main story line. If you try to take Eugene completely out of the movie Tangled, the movie wouldn’t have made any sense. Rapunzel would have never left the tower, and she would have not figured out that she was the lost princess. It wasn’t until Eugene climbed up Rapunzel’s tower that she made a deal to take her to see the lanterns. If she had not gone to the kingdom, she wouldn’t have made the connection that she was the lost princess. If you take Eugene out of the series completely, Rapunzel still would have gone to follow the black rocks to the dark kingdom, and Casandra still would have taken the moon stone for herself. Eugene doesn’t really play a significant role in the show that held any major effect on how the story turned out. Yeah he helps a bit, but nothing we learn about him, nothing he does, really has any major outcome on the plot. He’s a side character. The writers took a main character, and turned him into a side character.
We see that Zhan Tiri manipulates Cass with the idea that Cass deserves the glory and that it is her destiny to control the moon stone. Yeah glory and power is very appealing to a lot of people. A lot of stories center around a main characters greed and desire to become powerful. But why Casandra? The nature of her anger toward Rapunzel seemed so flimsy. Eugene had much more motivation to take the moon stone and would have been a more malleable target for Zhan Tiri. The old saying “the way to hell is paved with good intentions” would have been a perfect moral for this story. Eugene would have wanted to protect his loved ones from the moon stone, but Zhan Tiri could have used Eugene’s past experience of being abandoned and his father essentially killing Eugene’s mother to allow the moon stone to get inside Eugene’s head. Thus inadvertently, turning Eugene against those he cares about by making him think those who he thought cared about him are really against him.
Overall, the story of the Tangled Series felt forced at certain point. It felt like everything looked like it was leading up to one direction and then at the last minute the direction took a sudden detour without any real reason. It felt like the writers essentially pushed Eugene to the side, and replaced him with a character that didn’t have the same merit. It was almost as if Eugene and Casandra switched places. Cass was supposed to be the captain of the guards, but that was given to Eugene. Eugene was meant to take the moon stone, because that is his birthright, but Casandra took that role instead. Why? Why did the writers feel the need to push a beloved character that a lot of viewers already grew to love from the movie, and kind of force this other character that was not part of the original movie so quickly? It felt forced, and unnatural. In story telling, you want the relationship between the audience and a character to grow naturally. You don’t want the audience to like a character just because the writers said so. That’s what it felt like with Casandra. Eugene is suddenly a side character, and now you have to really care about this new character 2/3rds into the show. The changing of the title was even evident that it was no longer about Rapunzel and Eugene and their adventures after the movie. They changed it to Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure, making it seem like Eugene wasn’t really as important any more as Rapunzel was. The movie title Tangled, implied that both Eugene and Rapunzel were equally as important. But the title Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure made it less about the two main characters and more about Rapunzel and her friendship with her handmaiden. If you take Eugene out of the series completely, Rapunzel still would have gone to follow the black rocks to the dark kingdom, and Casandra still would have takenthe moon stone for herself. Eugene doesn’t really play a significant role in the show that held any major effect on how the story turned out. Yeah he helps a bit, but nothing we learn about him, nothing he does, really has any major outcome on the plot. He’s a side character. The writers took a main character, and turned him into a side character.
