Finally got around to watching Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
and
100% honesty here?
I smiled-to-grinned-helplessly at every second of it! It is SO charming and SO expertly animated! The comparisons to the Spiderverse movies I've seen so far are 100% warranted and I genuinely hope loads of CGI animated movies follow these patterns/designs in the future because they're just SO refreshing to watch in a... maybe "engaging" is the word to use? You feel like you're IN the animation, reacting eagerly TO it, rather than sitting tiredly as you watch a rough draft with a few key splash pages go by.
I dunno. YouTube keeps recommending me people bleh-dunking on Disney's Wish and from what clips of that movie I've seen it looks SO dull in comparison to Puss. Like, I have 0 clue what Wish is about! I've seen maybe 4 5-10 second clips of it at most. There's a goat? The protag's bestie (besties??) are based on the 7 Dwarves? There's like 50 references to older Disney movies because it's supposed to be a celebration of Disney's 100th?
But strictly speaking from a visual perspective/demonstration/execution/exultation of animation prowess? Puss is INCREDIBLE. On a strictly visual/style comparison there is NO comparison. I'm speaking honestly here; I couldn't HELP but grin watching every second of Puss. It's a delight just to watch. I'd say that even if the story bored me and that is NOT the case. The story is SO GOOD. The story makes it an EASY 10 times better than what the brilliant visuals promised. It is SO worth the dollars I dropped on a rental watch of it, and it's definitely a movie I (a person who is NOT interested in movies until years later at BEST) would be keen to watch again.

ROUND 4 MATCH 7
Tumblr media
Chrom propaganda:
“Chrobin (Chrom x player character) is so many tropes in one oml. You have friends-to-lovers (Chrom and Robin are canonically best friends according to Nintendo), enemies-to-lovers (Robin is heir to the Grimleal cult, the enemy of the Halidom of Ylisse which Chrom is the prince, and later king, of), there's amnesia, time travel, official next-gen AUs, changed dialogue to lore important events in the game if you marry Chrom, and Nintendo keeps teasing us with the ship. Cheery prince who knows when to be serious, very strategically smart but very bad at communicating, a guy that can comfort you when you're down, make a fool of himself when you're not around, and he's just generally a very sweet guy. Also please consider the fact that you get to watch a cutscene of him dying in the prologue and despite the horrors he's just so supportive of the protagonist. Chrom doesn't care about where you came from or who you're related to, he cares for YOU. He gets KILLED by the protag and he reassures them that they did nothing wrong and pleads with them to get out, to a safe place. I lost my soul to Chrom, I physically can't play this game without romancing him.”
“He eats oranges with the peel still on, he's an absolute himbo. Also the writers accidentally made his daughter canonically trans so he definitely supports trans rights. And technically you can only marry him if you play as female Robin but their dynamic is still just as romantic if you play as male Robin (they literally call each other their other half and m!Robin and Chrom have a valentine's day duo unit in the gatcha, and in the anthology manga m!Robin asks Chrom to make polygamy legal so he can also marry Chrom's wife and they can be a family) so most people play the game with the gay mod so they can still marry him as a guy. He's incredibly stupid ("yeah, let's set all our ships on fire then walk through a volcano, you're so smart, Robin" "I know you've had prophetic visions about killing me and our daughter came from the future to warn us it would happen but I'm sure THIS TIME it won't because of the power of our bonds") but also really sweet. In the summer DLC they're fighting on a beach and when he sees Robin get excited over a weird creature they found he immediately forgets about the battle and starts trying to make a bunch of crafts (and failing) and cooking food (and failing again) and writing "Chrom and Robin were here" in the sand so that Robin could have some nice beach memories. I'm obsessed with this man”
Asra propaganda:
“He GIVES AWAY HALF HIS HEART TO REVIVE YOU okay but like. He's the MCs roommate and they were together for a few years before the MC caught a plague and died and he obsesses over a way to bring them back before succeeding by making a deal with a god to trade half his heart for MC and betraying the emperor. And then when MC comes back but without any of their memories, he takes care of them and teaches them how to live all over again and he never asks for anything in return. On all the routes where you don't choose him he's really supportive and helps you out despite your history and overall he's just really nice and supportive of the MC and is their rock no matter what route you go down. Also he has a pet snake named Faust and I love her she's so <33
Idk I just appreciate him so much”
"He gave you half his HEART!! He would literally go to hell and back for you!! He wants to take you on adventures all around the world—doesn’t matter where, as long as he’s by your side!! AND he’s nonbinary!!!"

Do you think Valentino will be killed off at some point in the series? Viv has made him out to be the most morally repugnant of the Vees and the most personally dangerous to the heroes (mainly to Angel Dust but I imagine he's capable of causing harm to a lot more demons than we've seen). In the event that Angel manages to get out of his contract, Val might lose what little bit of restraint he has and go on the warpath against the Hotel, which may lead to him having to be killed depending on how much of a threat he ends up being on his own.
I know you've theorized before about the Vees making some measure of peace with the Hotel, but I just don't see Valentino making any compromises given his personal vendetta against the establishment and Charlie in particular for giving his favorite victim a small escape from his control. Vox and Vel may get off with some form of humiliation, but Valentino isn't a villain I see living to the end of the story.
Tumblr media
As much as I enjoy the Vees dynamic, I actually didn't put any real thought how they will be played out. Which is silly as their role will be amped up next season. So what I'm going to ramble off isn't something I dwelled on and may have a lot of holes as I'm thinking on the spot.
Valentino is dangerous because he acts out violently before thinking. He lacks foresight and thought. He metaphoric as well literally blind. I mean, he was ready to go down to the hotel to shoot everyone with the simple fact Angel moved there. He also threatened to shoot Alastor shadowed minion and its whole family when Angel flirted with it. But I don't think he will be killed off. I think if character would be killed off it be a character that would be a emotional gut punch for the audience be impacted by.
If there be an overlord death, it would be Carmilla or Zestial. "Out for love." Leaning more to Zestial, the oldest overlord finally ending his reign. His death would be caused by protecting Odette and Clara. An attack heading their way and Carmilla pinned or unable to reach them in time and force to witness their demised, only for Zestial stepping in to taking the the death blow himself. Carmilla with with renewed strength and energy from the destroyed what/who was the obstacle from stopping her from getting there in time the first time, to rush to his side and he part with dying words for her. Probably words of parting something from a shakespearean play that held deeper meaning for the both of them.
I already lowkey headcanon the reason why Carmilla is already so protective and trusting to Zestial is because he had protected her daughters from danger before...perhaps from the radio demon himself. But if Alastor did already threaten them, I think Carmilla would hold that grudge and be undercurrent of hostile ahile acting professional to him. Perhaps its not so dire. Maybe, Alastor was in the area ready to fight Zestial, with the daughters nearby. Seeing the overlord killer, Zestial moved to protect the girls (who wasn't targeted just in the area) and Alastor saw Zestial true character decided to let them be. Since Alastor has his own moral code of selecting victims and Zestial wasn't deplorable in Alastor standards to meet the criteria to be a victim. Which worked out for Alastor, because I think Alastor realized later Zestial one of the few sinners that can overpower him.
But if not Zestial be the overlord to die, it be Carmilla protecting Zestial. (Again, with Zestial protected her daughters int he past in mind) and her parting words be asking him to promise or make a deal to always protect and watch over her daughters.
Zeezi and unnamed overlord might be thrown in for deaths jsut to add to a body count for the gravity of casualty and loss if there is a huge battle for survival.
If one of the Vees were to die, I say it be Vox. Surprisingly, it be a heroic sacrificial death. Or he stupidly ran in to protect Alastor and took the hit instead. Shocking both of them. Alastor probably saying "Farewell, old pal." in his unfiltered voice and meaning the words ol pal and Vox took his last breath in Alstor arms and his lips quirked into a small almost content smile at Alastor words.
Valentino, I think is safe from the execution blade despite a lot of fans would find satisfaction of his head rolling off.
In regards of Angel Dust contract, I think Husk will play the large role in it, possible small part Alastor. The other two who are contracted.
I know there's a lot of fics of Husk saving Angel but I never read any of it, but I am positive someone already wrote a really thorough brilliant plan. But Husk gambling to win Angel Dust soul seem fitting. Husk may have betted his own soul that he just acquired back from Alastor. The act really affecting Angel Dust as he stood witness. Valentino couldn't pass that a chance to own a former overlord who has intimate information of the radio demon and another way to put Angel in his place, knowing Angel cared deeping about the wind cat demon.
The point you made about Valentino retaliation is very valid. It's very in character for Valentino. All I can think of is, its part of the deal when he lost Angel. It one of the clauses. Husk bets his soul, Valentino can do whatever he wanted to Husk without any clauses and restrictions and has full access to Husk intel if Valentino bets Angel Dust soul, to never bother Angel again or any of the Hotel residence and love ones.
I think if the show went with this angle, Husk would acting out soling on his own to save Angel. But Alastor may be present. Either reinforce/ threaten that the hotel and the residents are his territory. As well Lucifer and Charlie's presence and power.
Or Alastor had them Husk play another round for Valentino to get a chance to win Angel back in in exchange for Valentino to bet the additional clauses and restrictions. Because Alastor nit picky and not going to leave deal the deal to be open if Alastor not going to benefit from it being vague. He may even included that they have to stop merchandising and advertising Angel likeness which would really hit his company pockets. Or Angel get a large royaltees from them. Giving a chance to drop the act when he out in public and slowly become more he wanted to be or act more himself.
There might be something that addressed the contracts themselves. Like all contracts became voided. Which would have any overlord scrambling but I think it hit Valentino harder then the others. So he be too busy trying to stop an uprising to worry about his own safety then think about Angel at the moment.
But in all honestly I have no idea how Valentino meet his end or how his rampage of retaliation be curbed. We see Angel having some final words for some closure and might get a satisfying Angel kneeing him in the balls. He may even lose one of his wings or his weaponized tongue cut off briefly if there was a brawl not by Angel). But I don't think death is in the cards for him. I think Valentino is just has to force to seethe (and losing a lot of capital of his number one money maker)and witness Angel living a happy life afar and perhaps Angel redemption. That everything is so much better for Angel now he out of Valentino grasp.

I have like. Two versions of Damian Wayne in my head. I think it's a consequence of getting to know and love him via Morrison's run on him and then wanting to know more, doing research into his mother's side, and being horrified by how racist the retcons made were. It didn't really change how much I enjoy Damian in any significant way, because I liked him for his dynamic with the batfamily and how entertaining he is as Robin. It's just that when it comes to anything deeper than that, about what motivates him, what he internalized growing up, the impact his childhood abuse had on him, anything to do with Ras or Talia really... A lot of writers fail so badly at making it compelling and instead just make me cringe and want them never to touch the al Ghuls again. And so we end up with two Damians:
Damian Wayne aka the Damian I love: Most easily described as an in-character, well written Damian with a solid backstory. Robin Son of Batman and his Robin run both pull this off pretty well. They don't downplay the horror of his childhood but they don't cross over into cartoonish territory either, and they allow Damian to have complicated thoughts and feelings about what he did and what was done to him. You can see how his abuse shaped him without it being shoved hamfistedly down your throat, and I don't come away thinking "I have to ignore all of this no matter how important it is to his character because logically Ras and/or Talia would not fucking do that". Also he's hilarious and makes me root for him whether he's insulting his enemies or electrocuting Jason or dying for the fifth/sixth time. Like that's my son and I can write a million words on his mentality and how it's changed and his opinions on his parental figures and his character development and how he'd interact with x or y character and-
And the second Damian, aka the Woobie Damian. The one you get where hack writers want to give him a sad backstory to justify how Edgy and Badass and Damaged he is and write the most cartoonishly over the top evil Ras and Talia possible. Most recent example I can think of is Tom King saying Ras locked Damian in a box with no water for a week because he didn't tie his shoelaces right. Or Morrison's Talia murdering her own son. Or how SuperSons wrote Talia. And look, it's not that I won't accept horribly, ridiculously evil villains. My favourite character's dad abused her in more extreme ways than even the worst al Ghul writer could come up with. It's that these are characters with already established personalities and traits. Unless they are being mind controlled they would not act like that and do these things. Just like how Bruce Wayne wouldn't lock Dick in a cave and feed him rats. There are ways you can show the impact of growing up in a cult and raised by an evil grandfather and being told repeatedly that you are destined to lead them all into a better world and trained in the art of killing a man. And these writers fail miserably at pulling any of that off. It's as shallow and boring as "You know why I'm mean to you all the time? Because my family taught me love is a weakness. I said mean things to you and stabbed you but my grandfather used to beat me for showing kindness to animals. Don't you feel sorry for me now?"
It sucks. I hate it. Anything with that Damian in it, I automatically filter out of my personal canon. The only way I can think of making it good is if it's like the "Slice the Baby Saturday" meme, where Damian is just bullshitting to see how much he can get away with and deliberately testing his family with stereotypes. But unfortunately those writers are dead serious about Ras making Damian climb up a whole mountain with no safety gear even if he falls and breaks his arm or dies. Because that is definitely something you would do with your one and only heir. They're literally two minutes away from saying Ras gave Damian a puppy and then told Talia to kill it in front of him.
So basically when I say that I love Damian and he's my favourite male Robin, know that woobie Damian is not a part of this conversation. Real Damian I would kill for. A writer puts woobie Damian in front of me and says his mom stabbed him I say let him bleed out so I won't have to endure comics about him anymore.

If you don't mind me asking, can I ask your top 5 (or top 3) favorite characters from BNHA? And why you loved them? And your top 5 favorite moments from the series? Sorry if you've answered this question before....Thanks....
My faves, I've been asked a few times so I'll be light on explanation, but, honestly, I'm liable to switch up depending on whatever I just read or watched.
Tumblr media
Katsuki Bakugo - I just expanded on this but I just generally think more people could give more grace to the traumatized little demon child who has, for reasons against his will, largely been put through trials not only as Midoriya's rival but also as a potential love interest (re: damsel in distress trope)
Izuku Midoriya - I kinda touched on what makes Midoriya interesting but realize it's kinda in the context of the chemical reaction between he and Bakugo. Simply, I like Midoriya for a few reasons that I may not have previously intimated. Those being he is a certified chaos gremlin which is sometimes lost on us as the reader/viewer because he's our narrator (Bakugo only seems insolent. He'll say "don't tell me what to do", but do exactly as you've asked. Midoriya will smile in your face after being told what not to do and adapt the most pants shitting plan to break his bones and risk fatal injury known to man right after.), he's such a fucking nerd, also, kin.
Shouta Aizawa - I love a good traumatized character. But his characterization is so stern, rough around the edges and nonchalant (I usually like trauma with a side of silly goofy✨). It truly belies the fact that he's just a big ole softie who understands the nuance of his students in such an endearing way. Like, I just love him.
Shoto Todoroki - Character wise, Shoto is really entertaining because, while he is a nepo baby, he is skilled to back up why he should be in class 1A. He is not dumb but he is simple. I appreciate that he is regularly unexpected comedic relief and it definitely comes at the price of something neurospicy. Additionally, he and his family situation are just as integral to the story as Midoriya and Bakugo's evolving relationship and power dynamic and it adds texture to him as a tritagonist.
Eijirou Kirishima - My fifth is an oscillating fan available for whoever last occupied my mind but this comes from a recent ask where someone mentioned being a kiribaku because same. Kirishima is the first to earn Bakugo's respect because of his earnest and unrelenting attempts to befriend him. He and Denki are good indicators that Bakugo is, perhaps, not as enigmatic as the narration leads us to believe. His veneer of manly bravado barely covering his insecurities and lack of confidence? The fact that he thought the best way to be a new person was to dye his hair?? KIN. He is precious to me.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning through chapter 411.
These moments are not in any particular (in terms of favorite or chronological) order.
Feral Deku Being Found By Kacchan - Just, the whole arc of being found by Class 1A, beaten down by them, apology in the rain, and being advocated for by Class 1A against an angry mob? The whole thing was goosebumps inducing, just the way they've all grown.
Discovering the Sir Nighteye's Prediction Saw Deku Dying in Action - Toga is a disruptor but also, perhaps, so are all those OFA quirks. Even so, Sir Nighteye not only resigned to his own death but also Deku's which is so wild of him when he so earnestly wanted to discourage All Might from the path to destruction he saw ahead of him. He really had beef with a kid. BUT ALSO Sir Nighteye coming back to be like "All Might... this isn't a comic book, you don't have to die here,". OMG the boomerang arcs all of these characters get is just so heartwarming/wrenching depending on who it is.
Bakugo, With No Other Choice, Facing Off Against Shigaraki - We got so much from that, including, confirming that he cared about that whole host of extras so much that he would think to pass along their care to someone else. That was just so beautiful for his development but also real tears. I remember I was in the midst of reading the manga for the first time and saw a hint of a leak and I read like 150 chapters in a matter of days to get caught up.
Heroes Rising - Literally, that whole movie. GOOSEBUMPS.
Bakugo vs Uraraka at the Sports Festival - This fight was so brilliant for so many reasons.
1. Uraraka gave Bakugo a legitimate run for his money all on her own 2. It demonstrates sexism in universe based on audience perception of the fight as well as how much public opinion bears on the split between a hero and a villain 3. Aizawa gave an unbiased interpretation of the fight and continues to defend Bakugo's character later in the story when people bring up his "villainous" behavior at the Sport's Festival 4. Bakugo is shown to be really noble where other boys from Class 1A seem to think they need to go easy on girls (who end up handing them their ass later) during the Sports Festival but also during the Class 1A vs Class 1B joint exercise 5. It spurred Uraraka to push beyond the confines of her quirk and seek tutelage under Gunhead which is like.. so huge in terms of her development but also pushes her outside of a perception of helplessness that would typically befall a main female lead in a shonen series.
Thanks for asking!

Sorry for the long preamble.
I love the idea of the sanin swap but it highlights a problem I have with the original Sakura-tsunade pair, it only exists to complete the trio, there’s no particular reason either of them would seek the other out (especially when compared to the other sanin/students) and after it’s established they don’t have any good dynamic or impactful moment(plus it shunts Shizune). Sauske and naruto have major arcs about killing/avenging their mentor and we know exactly how they felt about each other and what they wanted from the other. What does Tsunade gain out of this arrangement? Surely as a leader/doctor taking on another student would only be for very exceptional cases.
So my question is, how would you change the story to give this student/teacher pair equal attention as the others? (Or would you just jettison it completely)
I don't agree! At least not in every point.
Sakura is actually the only one who deliberately seeks her sannin out without the sannin wanting her first. Putting aside the frustration of female characters always being support/healing members of the team, Tsunade sees a lot of herself in Sakura, as people who could not protect their loved ones when it mattered most. Where Tsunade ran, Sakura is determined, and that motivates her to take her on as a student
Tumblr media
I'll give him credit where it's due, Kishimoto really made Sakura a really excellent "normal girl" (November 2009 English Shonen Jump, page 11). Sakura NOT being cursed or destined or a family friend of her Sannin is important. There's intention in her actions, it characterizes her as determined instead of predetermined- the way the boys are- to have a relationship with the Sannin.
I do wish we had seen more of that relationship, but we get bits.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm kind of surprised you think Sasuke had a significant relationship with Orochimaru. Even when Sasuke "kills" him its pretty devoid of emotions like anger and has just the smallest bits of pride. I also don't think Shizune was ever shunted. Kishimoto didn't bother to make her a parallel for Kabuto past the Legendary Sannin battle. Shizune's just kind of there for commentating on events haha.
Tumblr media
I'm tempted to say Shizune is more like Anko "oh im kishimoto i put a lady in that important spot and forgot to write her doing anything". But I also think having her (and Anko and Kabuto and the Rain kids) is to show how Naruto-Sakura-Sasuke went above and beyond the "normal" threshold for Sannin students.
I think the biggest change I'd make would be dealing with THIS a little bit, where as usual Naruto is making everything about his feelings and as usual Sakura is hiding hers- her fear of HER sensei DYING- to give support.
Tumblr media
It's like there's AAAAALMOST some commentary on how she constantly puts her own emotions to the side in order to try and help Naruto (even when the help actually is detrimental to him) but Kishimoto would have to show a BOY supporting a GIRL through EMOTIONS instead of JUST ENCOURAGING HER TO FIGHT GOOD and we can't have that. And I guess this sort of establishes where her head is at before Sai does his stupid lecture

It's time for certain brosonlies to stop lying.
My old twitter is gone but I have the archive and I've had enough with this nonsense so I'm going to share a summary of what I was thinking about SPN and S9, on twitter, January 8, 2014.
Here's what I brought to the table at the time:
The brothers are close but how can their rifts and conflicts heal without change or growth, and not advocating for the bro bond to go away, advocating for more character development and less toxicity
Not about the brothers working separately, but the characters having more insight about themselves, how they treat each other, others around them, "instead of the show mashing the same button over and over presented as if it's new"
Yes they will still fight monsters
The repetitiveness at this point in the story (S9) was turning some fans off the story
Pointed out how this repetitiveness and toxicity harmed Sam's story not just Dean's. Sam robbed of agency, Dean shut in to being Sam's caretaker, the reliance on hurt Sam and dying Sam over and over.
There was more growth in early seasons. S1 Sam and Dean were getting to know each other again after being separated for years, this made for a strong arc and conflict and growth in S1
Questioning why others in the conversation were so against character development and growth, especially given the first few seasons felt more dynamic in that regard, and why character development is something treated as inappropriate and out of place in some areas of the fandom
Stories need contrast. If they get mired in the same dynamics over and over that harms the story
Sam and Dean do in fact have other story points besides just each other, why not develop those a little more
The mis-use of the label "codependent" for things that are, in fact, things people do for their family, or extended family, anyone they love, while Sam and Dean do have some aspects that veer into an unhealthy zone, given their background of trauma. But doing things for people you love are not on the show, or in life, confined only to blood ties
Pointing out that people don't get cured of codependency. It abates, it becomes manageable, it's not that the unusually close nature of Sam and Dean's bond will go away
But keeping them stop-gapped isn't great storytelling.
Dean's domesticity isn't demeaning, and Dean being caretaker isn't demeaning. The domesticity and showing Dean's nurturing side is part of fleshing out the character. However if he is limited to solely a caretaker role, that's limiting
Expressly saying that Dean's caretaking of others not just Sam is also an issue--if his entire role is caretaker, whether for Sam or for his friends, that's limiting the character.
Pushing back against the idea that Dean only cares about Sam
Dean's lack of self-worth, Dean believing his only worth was looking after Sam
That the fandom insistence that Dean's only role should be to look after Sam is not in fact Dean-positive and if the canon reinforces that, it's a problem
The way canon wasn't going deep enough to address the strains on the brother relationship. It was showing the rifts, but not really addressing it at the root causes
Brought up how most TV shows are structured and paced where normally there'd be more balance and how SPN's structure was limiting the story and character growth and the characters--for Sam and Dean. Not just Dean.
This is what brosonlies keep characterizing as me being rude, me attacking, me trying to push my DeSTieL AgEnDa, me being insane.
All because I had the temerity to treat Dean as a whole person instead of thinking his entire function in canon should be to spoon feed wounded and sick Sam, and because I had valid concerns about stop-gapping for both Sam and Dean, Sam being depicted again again as helpless and lacking agency, and Dean's role being narrowed, and where I even full on said, it would be a problem if Dean were confined to the caretaking role with anyone else he loves too.
I barely even go here any more but sometimes I remember how much I dislike the brosonly lane. How they target fans just for treating Dean as a whole person. How they resent you if you treat Sam as a whole person too. Because deep down they want eternally helpless sick wounded Sam so Dean can tend to him. They hate on shippers but the way this lane continues to treat both brothers, as characters, all for the sake of their fanon ship obsession, is still terrible. And very little has changed in 10 years.
They still hate character development. They still are so obsessed with their fanon ship that they don't even see Sam and Dean as fleshed out characters, they favor Sam, but even Sam gets chewed up and disregarded and lost in the maw of their shipping obsession. Nothing Matters But the Bro Bond. Sam and Dean who.
Feel free to discuss any of my old points about S9 if you'd like. I will be blocking and deleting any hateful or trolling comments.

Batman Day Comic Recommendation List
In honour of this day, I've compiled a list of 9 batman, or batman adjacent comics that I think everyone should check out (specifically fans who aren't super familiar with the comics yet). They're my "Batman Necessities" so to speak:
Batman by Grant Morrison: While there are certain some interesting things in this book that aren't really my favourite (a consequence of Morrison writing it), overall it captures such, for lack of a better word, camp. It's has the kind of creativity that makes silver age comics so fun while still remaining modern and serious. There are some great stories, it introduces Damian, and overall is just such a compelling run. In the same vein we get to...
Batman and Robin by Grant Morrison: Ok yeah this pretty similar to the above but I had to include both. I actual prefer this short series to Morrison's run on the main Batman book. It features Dick Grayson as Batman and Damian Wayne as Robin and is a great role reversal of the traditional Batman and Robin. The two of them have such a great dynamic and it takes place during such an interesting time in the Batman mythos with Bruces "death" (which I'll admit I wished lasted for longer. Honestly, any book from this era is a blast because of the brief change in the status quo.
Batman Vol. 1 #408-416, #421-425: If you're new to comics don't be intimidated by all the numbers! Batman 408 introduces Jason Todd's Post Crisis backstory and then the issues roll right up to his death. It's a pretty self contained story, and super easy to fly through. I think these are some of the most painfully underrated batman issues. Speaking of Jason's death, my next recommendation is...
Death in the Family + A Lonely Place of Dying: I won't say much because these are just classics and probably the most impactful comics for the Batman mythos ever. Read them.
Batman: Year One: If you want a good ol' Bruce Wayne Batman comic, this is the one. Beautiful art, timeless story, what's not to enjoy? It's also very influential for other Batman media(like The Batman movie) so if you liked that and want a good entrance into comics, this is a great place to start. It's a contained story too, which is really nice if you don't want to have to piece together stuff you missed from other comics. Definitly my favourite Frank Miller Batman story.
Nightwing Vol. 4 #78-: Sure, it's not Batman, but like it or not, Dick Grayson will always be an essential Batman character. Tom Taylor's and Bruno Redondo's run is a big hit for a reason. It's simultaneously fun, heartfelt, and impactful and the writing and art work so well together. It's such a treat to read every month and while it starts great, I feel like as it goes along it starts ironing out and issues I had with it. Great if you want to get into something ongoing (or even if you don't, read it anyways)!
Scott Snyder's Batman (specifically Batman vol 2. #1-12): New 52 was a tumultuous time in DC comics. On the bright side we got the court of owls out of it! Another really good Bruce Wayne Batman story that doesn't need any outside knowledge. I'm in love with Greg Capullo's art, it suits the series so well. The court of owls is such an interesting addition to batman, and honestly it feels like it's a much older part of the batman mythos it was added so seamlessly. If you want a taste of just a solid, simply batman story, this is it.
Batman and Robin by Peter J. Tomasi: This is some of the best New 52 has to offer. I love how Tomasi writes Damian, and I'm a sucker for his dynamic with Bruce. It's a just gives off the best, action packed comic fun vibes. When it's written well it's written WELL and even when it's not quite as perfect it's still solid. Lots of sweet moments too, which I am such a sucker for. And finally we get to the last rec on my list...
Robin: Son of Batman by Gleason (especially issues 1-6): Ok, yes yes I know it's not really a batman book. But just like Nightwing, Robin is an essential part of Batman and how could I leave out my favourite comic ever. Seriously, this book fundamentally changed me when I first read it. Gleason writing, Gray's art, and Kalisz's colouring all combine and complement each other so well. Honestly it's such a joy to look at, and get's even better when you read it. They get Damian, and he shines in this book. The story is tight and impactful and after only 6 issues you'll have such a deep appreciation for the character (and feel like you've been punched in the gut). I recommend everyone take a little bit of time to sit down and give this a read.
And so concludes my great batman recommendation post! Honestly, there's so many more that could be on here that aren't that the best piece of advice I have is pick up any Batman comic that looks interesting to you and give it a go. In all his years, Batman has had such range in his books that there really is something for everyone. Please feel free to add any necessities of your own!

scrambled thoughts about s4 bc I'm losing my goddamned MIND
just finished s4 of Doctor Who. quick question: how the hell do you go on without Rose Tyler? I can't even imagine I literally. what.
like once s3 rolled around I really fuckin realized I was apparently very much watching this show for ROSE and her dynamic with the Doctor, not the Doctor himself or whatever else lmaoo
ONLY Rose has made me bawl my eyes out, let alone even tear up at all. I just can't even fathom being able to connect with any other plot or character like I did with her and her love for the Doctor.
I just ohh for all of s3 most of s4 I just missed her so much??? like Martha and Donna are great (well, I didn't like Martha at first and you can definitely guess why based on all of this but once s4 rolled around she was great!! loved her) but oh my god they were just no Rose Tyler.
plus WOW I really got so attached to her relationships with other people?? like Donna and Martha's families n whatnot made me feel NOTHING whereas I could not get enough of Jackie and adored Mickey (Mickey is family. he is. I don't care if he's her ex or whatever. he's part of the family). Captain Jack Harkness my one true love (btw just sayin I really think Rose and the Doctor should've gotten a hello kiss. maybe not the Doctor he did not deserve one for leaving Jack but Rose did!! hello!!! you gave them "I'm going to go die" kisses give them "hello we're all still alive missed you" kisses!!!). idk if maybe I was just so clocked out of s3-4 that I missed something but I swear those two just had like no really compelling personal relationships outside of the Doctor, and maybe like one specific family member (lookin at you, gramps).
the fact that Rose ended up liking Martha and Donna though??? dfindsnjdj dying dying DYING I love that she would've been friends with them both. they deserved to all sit and gossip about the Doctor like she did with Sarah Jane right in front of his face.
also oh my god no one why why why please PLEASE I'm not used to consuming sad media I try and avoid it as much as possible and this show is just. just. oh my god.
Rose is so close to what she truly wanted. she'll have a life with the Doctor, but not her Doctor and not the life she fought so hard to get back. instead she's still still still stuck in Pete's World, unable to travel across time and space and save the universe with her Doctor (and don't get me wrong, I love the idea of Tentoo, but it just rubs me the wrong way no matter how I try and look at it. it feels like when a character's memories are erased. they're still technically themselves, but something important is missing all the same. and that thing missing is the TARDIS in this case Tentoo is the best thing she could've gotten lol). I feel like I can't even adequately put it into words why her ending makes me as upset as it does I just hope you Get It. I don't think it would've been good for her to not have ANY other solid relationships like she would've had if she'd gone with the Doctor but also oh my god. oh my god.
and the Doctor is once again without his brilliant, fantastic Rose.
I really hope she doesn't come back though unless it's on her own terms, because she missed her friends or smth. I really hope she's able to travel the world and it be enough for her as long as she's got Tentoo by her side. I really, really hope she's happy and fully in love with Tentoo and they are living the BEST life they can.
Fuck. this SHOW.

@bluejaysgonerogue i wanted to do a proper post so:
more people can see it
people can add to the list
(this is my opinion, please please if you have other comics, add them to the list)
im actually a big fan of the "newer" stuff, we're talking new 52 onwards, purely bc it works nicely in the times
new 52 starts strong with a storyline that's all about dick's past, and given it ocvurred after a hard reset, it's easy to get into
so:
nightwing 2011 (30 issues + 1 annual)
grayson (20 issues + 3 annuals + futures end, a weird special that i would honestly skip)
nightwing 2016 (109 issues and counting + 5 annuals + nightwing rebirth that comes before the run)
there's also the 2? previous nightwing runs:
nightwing 1995 (five issue limited run + alfred's return #1 special that comes first)
nightwing 1996 (153 issues + issue 1/2 + issue 1,000,000 + a whole host of specials)
2? because does nightwing 1995 actually count as a proper run???
you might also hear them referred to by volumes, 1995 is vol 1, 1996 is vol 2, 2011 is vol 3 or new-52, 2016 is vol 4 or rebirth
grayson is a bit weird but my absolute favourite dick ever. it's a spy thriller and doesn't have a lot of batfam/titans/yj characters in it BUT it does have a lot of dick being awesome. there's also an 'event' that takes place during grayson called robin war, very fun and a good show of dick's skills and manipulation.
to top it off, robin year one is always quoted as essential reading so i'd check it out too (before anyone shouts nightwing year one, it's issues 101-106 of vol 2)
there's also a lot of batman that features dick, he has a nice feature in both hush and under the (red) hood but nothing major, both giving us some nice interaction with bruce. both are also just incredible and deserving of being on the list of iconic batman
batman and robin 2009 is a lot of fun bc it features dick as batman, and damian wayne as his robin. this is a dynamic that i just love and is where episode 113 os WFA just hits hard (and why damian leans on dick so much, he is dick's robin)
oooooo and a lonely place of dying (1989) is brilliant. it's the introduction of tim drake and features dick. it's great, you should read it. it comes after a death in the family which is also just amazing. no dick, just jason, but fun (dick was in space at the time with the titans, tamaran i think)
i do just want to give a warning for nightwing 2016, it gets weird from issue 50 onwards. there's a period where the comics shift massively (#50-77 no spoilers) and then the current run by tom taylor is fine but misses a chunk of his character. i still like it but it's not the best thing for his character
OMG i forgot about titans runs lmao. ngl, i haven't read that much titans so i will leave that to one side so any experts can accurately recommend. i will say that i have enjoyed the very recent worlds finest: teen titans (2023) limited run a lot, back in the robin days, deals with dick and bruce's relationship and his relationships with the team. (also wally is there and i love wally)
TL;DR
start with nightwing 2011 and work forwards moving to grayson and then to nightwing 2016. then go back and read the older stuff
i have absolutely missed a lot BUT this is kind of my "short n sweet" run down, iconic dick grayson is like, most of dick grayson, so it's hard. the common advice (and what i did) was new 52, grayson, rebirth
tbh this is like a basics list, the required reading if you will, not that you need to read any of it but if you do want to, this is a good starting point. a lot of the runs have these crossovers, like robin war and death of the family (not the jason one, this is a weird vol 3 thing), so you get to read other comics too for those issues)
also sorry for the just random other non-nightwing comics, i got excited
i definitely forgot some stuff, again i'm sorry, but go vibe with dick and have a good time and also your fic?? if you'd be willing to share??? i'm always looking for new stuff to read (do not feel pressured into sharing it if you don't want to tho)
i hope you enjoy your nightwing experience, it can seem overwhelming but take it slow, comics aren't that long, and just remember that even yj and WFA are better than nothing (or the live action titans /hj)

Okay! Have a good day/night/life dear author <3! Here have a 🍰🍩🎠 to light up ur time! Adios~
Aww thank you so much for the kind words 🥰 And don’t worry! I love reading these little snippets of comments on sections of the demo! 😁
Ash is only sweet for MC and Luka for now, of course ☺️ They’re mostly prickly and abrasive towards other people 😆
And yes 😭 Viktor… He’s such a good and loving dad 🥺 In case you haven’t read it yet, I recently released one of the Patreon side stories for public in celebration of hitting the 2K followers here! Here’s the link to the story! It’s a wholesome and fluffy side story, so hopefully it’ll help you recover from the angst 😆 I also have another 2-part side story from Viktor’s POV on my Patreon 😄
Please forgive Takashi, he’s just still a bit heartbroken about Viktor 😔 He’s usually a (pretty deadly and ruthless) himbo 😄 And glad you’re loving Luka as well 😂 He sometimes takes too much liberty with his teleporting/blinking ability 😆
It is indeed hard to not get charmed by Rin 😩 You might not have to choose between Ash and Rin 😉 (And yes guys, Ash and Rin poly is currently planned although might not get implemented right away yet since I’ll need some additional planning to accommodate it).
And yes, gotta make MC fight with style, you know? 😂 Gotta be cool and all, like Luka. Also, I’m a bit touched that your MC agreed to kill 5 people to make Grandpa and Luka proud 🥺 They would most certainly be happy to hear about it later on 😉
🤣 Luka agrees with your sentiment that it’s enough detail about his sex life for the entirety of MC’s life 😆
Ooh this is the second time I’ve seen someone wanting to let the killer live but not out of compassion and forgiveness, but to make them suffer even more 🤔 Interesting…
And wholesome family dynamics is just my weakness 😭 I have to include it in my first ever IF.
MC’s close bonds with Luka and Ash and Grandpa might be one of the little things left that MC really holds on to after the death of their dad, their mother figure (Cara), and their grandma. And loyalty to their remaining family is one of the core cornerstones that all MCs will share with one another no matter what.
I’ve always seen close family bonds between the Morozovs to be one of their most defining characteristics and strengths (and also weakness at the same time).
It’s the reason that Viktor couldn’t cleanly leave his past behind and sever Luka and Cara completely out of his (and MC’s) life after he ran away.
But at the same time, it’s also the reason MC survives the attack and is able to grow up to become the person they are today, loved, cared for, sheltered, and protected from the harsh underground world by combined efforts from Grandpa, Luka, and Ash.
This will also be the reason that Vigilante and Superhero MC won’t be able to turn against their own family. And the reason Luka and Grandpa and Ash wouldn’t leave MC behind and abandon them even when they chose those paths for themself.

What would yo say are the best Tim comics?
I apologize for how long this got. I can't talk like a normal person. I get too excited to talk about stuff. So bare with me. I'm really sorry.
I'm an Early Tim guy. I enjoy the consistency involved with them. Are they perfect? A-ha...noooooooooooo. Not at all. No comic is. Chuck Dixon was very clearly a grumpy middle-aged conservative man, which can make Tim come off as occasionally out of character since Tim was developed by Marv Wolfman as a naive, idealistic, positive-thinker, from a liberal family.
But he at least most of the time understands Tim, and certainly the aspects of Tim's anxiety caused by how highly Tim thinks of the legacy of Batman and Robin which is great.
So, like: Lonely Place of Dying.
It's his origin written by Marv Wolfman, it is THEE thing to read if you want to understand Tim. The fandom mostly talks about a made up version of his origin that is not even close to the case.
You want to read Tim? You want to understand him?
Lonely Place of Dying is the way to go.
There's also a good two-part story in Titans where Dick helps train Tim, but I can't remember what issues those were. You will likely be able to easily read it.
Tim also has a lot of fun moments before he's Robin but after Lonely Place of Dying where he's still written by his creator Marv Wolfman. The thing is, they're moments, so try to look like them up at least for extra content that show you more of how much of a Boy Scout Tim is.
The stories where Tim's parents die, and how he handles it afterwards are also very good. I would've preferred if his parents had lived, since a parent dying is such a trope. But it gives Tim an interesting dynamic where he was already working on being a crime-fighter when his died. It gave Tim a more existential side to his personality, that gives him a nice contrast with his positive-thinking side, giving him more depth ultimately.
The first Robin mini-series is great, mostly. But it is great.
This is where Dixon started writing Tim, though. And there's an extremely uncomfortable scene between Lady Shiva and Tim in the fourth issue, that I still can't put a comfortable twist on.
His other mini-series are also great. Joker's Wild is the second one, and the third one is Cry of the Huntress (Pretty sure), the third one is extremely angsty, so warning on that. They're all angsty, but goodness that one goes further with it.
His appearances in the general Batman and Detective Comics issues are also good. Different writers but he's consistent. It was a really good period for Batman and the Bat-Family overall, except for perhaps Dick, who wasn't terrible, just not his peak period anymore.
Robin, the ongoing Tim had is weird to describe. 'Cause in Dixon's run it is very very good. Yet filled with stuff that is really really not good.
His relationship with Stephanie has dated terribly, and with the modern eye makes no sense.
Stephanie essentially sexually harasses him, Tim does not like her beyond feeling responsible for her, and eventually they date.
Steph is a good character besides them dating, but the fact they ever dated is really unrealistic. Steph is a character created by Dixon, and you'll be able to tell when she goes from side-character with a great dynamic with Tim, to a character Dixon is desperate to have stay in the Bat-Family legacy.
And even past Steph, Dixon is horrible at writing romance. Any attempt at a love interest with Tim are almost always terrible. They can be distractingly bad how horrible the writing is.
Dixon's conservatism also pops out...which is distracted when Wolfman literally, in-comic, had the Drake's consider themselves liberals.
Not enough to ruin the experience, it's noticeable though.
Dixon's ability to write a complicated kid character, with a great pacing, great depth, side-characters (mostly), and characters that bring out Tim's character are fantastic. It's a great run overall.
There's more after this, that's important to read, I just don't want to cram up people's dashboard.
I'm simply warning you that it is dated, like many comics of it's age. So be warned when gross stuff shows up.
The pros outweigh the cons I'd say, since Dixon is mostly blacklisted from comics right now anyhow.
Tim will also have appearances in Nightwing too around this time, that are some of the best content those two characters have in their history. Search em out, they're fantastic.
Oh, and once Tim goes to boarding school in Dixon's run, feel free to jump off. Dixon gets increasingly lazy, and his writing turns really bad. It's not that bad at the start of it, but as it goes, my goodness does his once great run turn into total garbage. Side-characters are generic, Steph turns into an outright emotional abuser, characters act super super super out of character for moments that are written for Dixon himself.
Read the start of it. There's still good stuff, and a few good, fun stories. I particularly like one that ends with Tim getting autographed books for his friend.
Just know that it will eventually turn to shit.
And his solo isn't good again until Adam Beechon. Adam Beechon arguably has the best Tim Drake run, if you skip the Evil Cass storyline that was forced onto him.
He understands Tim incredibly well, and without the conservative politics. Telling similar stories to Dixon but doing it better. And Tim's love interest is, genuinely, the only one he's ever had that feels like they're good for each other.
It's also perhaps the only, if not one of the only comics during Tim's depression era that still understands who Tim is as a person.
Adam Beechon has even written for Ben 10, and the Teen Titans animated series.
If you only want to read one run for Tim as a test drive, besides Lonely Place of Dying, read Beechon's run.
Besides that, uh, some guest appearances in Birds of Prey, and Batgirl. Though don't read any that are late in the Batgirl run, 'cause holy shit there's one story that's just about the writers fetish for the Barbara Gordon classic Batgirl suit and it is really really bad. Full of projection.
The closest thing to an in-character Tim since Beechon is maybeeee Bendis's Young Justice, but they try to act like his and Steph's relationship is the one and super healthy. And it got too ambitious for his own good. Also Tim randomly goes from Robin to 'Drake' and it's bad. Tim never wanted to be anything but Robin, and was created that way so it's super distracting.
So if you want more crumbs that'll do ya, just, again, be warned.
This is comics we're talking about.
That isn't me calling it the best. It's more of like--an extra thing of note for the sake of other people. Enjoy what ya will.
There's other comics that are good, just...Tim's characterization feels really different and forced in ways that go against what one would call the heart of the character. The thing needed that can have even some not so great characterization feel bearable.
In my opinion anyways.
Enjoy what you enjoy.

Dear Author- May the 4th Exchange 2024
Hello Author! I'm so excited for this exchange, and to see what beautiful work you have in store for me. I just know it will be a delight. Here are some of my ideas, likes, and dislikes to get you inspired! And by the way, treats are very, VERY welcome and loved!
DNW: Explicit sexual content (I'm ok with stuff of that nature being tastefully implied, but no descriptions of genitalia or sex acts. In short, M-rated content is fine, but E is not.) Sequel trilogy content Major Character Death of the requested characters (I'm fine with threats of death and side characters dying, but I want my mains to live.) Mundane/modern AUs For Leia-centric or Tarkin-centric pieces, I'd prefer for the pairings of Han/Leia and Tarkin/TK-421 not to be present.
Likes: Leia whump Angst, hurt/comfort Vader being protective of Leia Arranged/forced marriage Enemies to lovers tropes, villain/heroine ships Kidnapping Political intrigue (lends itself particularly well to Tarkin/Leia) Creepy Tarkin Feisty Leia, with all her sassy banter Skywalker Family Drama (especially when it centers on Leia and Vader's dynamic) Character studies Fake dating trope Soulmate AUs Omegaverse Fantasy AUs Spying/espionage
Character: Leia Organa
Leia has been my absolute favorite character since childhood for so many, many reasons... I adore her bravery in the face of danger, her commitment to her cause, and the unique combination of strength and vulnerability which she portrays. There are so many, many things you can do with her through fic... I really could write and read about her forever!
Fic prompts/ideas: -I love pre-ANH Leia stories, where we see the young reckless senator standing up to the Empire and going on her first missions of espionage for the rebels. Maybe she almost gets caught-- how does she deal with that and manipulate her way out of capture or detection? There's a delicious potential for suspense and drama there! As well as great juicy interactions with Vader and Tarkin... -Leia's relationship to Alderaan-- fond childhood memories, cultural and familial traditions, her drive to protect them from the Empire, and even the tragedy when they are finally lost. This lends itself well to any bittersweet fluff with the Organas and Winter... as well as character studies or coming-of-age tales.
-Anything to do with her capture and torture aboard the Death Star-- I'd love some whump or hurt/comfort related to her interrogation scene, or confrontations with Tarkin and Vader... feel free to combine with the Leia ships listed below.
-Dark Leia AUs are also really fun, as are those where she is discovered by Vader and must deal with the fallout of her heritage. It's a great route for character study and angsty exploration; how does she get to this point and where does she go from there?
Leia Organa/Wilhuff Tarkin
Ah, my twisted little rarepair OTP. The things I would do for them! Leia is the perfect embodiment of the Rebellion's cause, just as Tarkin is the perfect embodiment of the Empire... where she is hope and light, he is tyranny and darkness. They have so much sass and resentment for one another, and I'm sure there were many opportunities for them to butt heads in the time before A New Hope. And then that moment in the Destruction of Alderaan scene where he touches her face. *shivers* Feel free to get dark and creepy with them and to emphasize the power dynamics and their hate for one another. There's a LOT of potential between these two!
Prompts:
-I like to imagine that, pre-ANH, Tarkin may have had a sort of obsession with outing Leia as a rebel. I want to see a game of cat and mouse between the daring spy princess and the wicked governor and how they work to thwart each other.
-Fake dating trope as a conduit for espionage and political intrigue: Leia pretends to be seeing the Grand Moff in order to get information on the Empire's plans... and perhaps deeper feelings begin to blossom. I think Leia could get something out of the push-and-pull dynamic and the challenge of a dangerous and hateful man as the enemy she's trying to take down.
-Tarkin tries to force Leia into a relationship with him so that he can use her as leverage/a hostage against the rebels and their sympathizers.
-Tarkin evacuates the Death Star in time and is determined to get revenge on Leia for the loss of his ultimate weapon... whump and tension ensue.
Honestly, I would be happy just to see these two locked in a room and arguing for hours; any interaction between them makes my heart happy!
Leia Organa & Darth Vader
Vader finding out Leia is his daughter is always a classic fic premise, and one which can be exploited in many ways. Both of these characters are so strong willed and a force to be reckoned with, and watching them play off one another is really entertaining. I love the parallels between them, the way that Leia is unafraid to stand up to this powerful figure, and the angst and drama which their shared bloodline causes.
Prompts:
-"You weren't on any mercy mission this time": something where Leia runs into Vader in the pre-ANH time and narrowly evades his capture.
-Vader kidnaps Leia to raise her as his daughter and Sith apprentice. She resists every step of the way.
-The two of them are forced to work together for a common goal-- perhaps the cause of overthrowing Palpatine. Maybe Vader is compelled to defect to the Rebellion and redeem herself, or maybe Leia finds herself seduced to the dark side of the Force.
Leia Organa/Darth Vader
If there weren't related, I do think that Vader and Leia would make a rather compelling couple, being almost compatible in a certain twisted manner. Both of them are deeply passionate and determined to protect the ones they love, with rather fiery spirits and a commanding presence. There's also the aesthetic of black vs white and the cute height difference, as well as the twisted take on the knight and the princess motif. I can see him getting really protective and possessive of her and being reminded painfully of his dear Padme.
Prompts:
-Through some strange pull of fate, the two are placed in a Force bond. Vader feels a connection to Leia but doesn't know the truth of why and draws entirely wrong conclusions as a result-- (romantic rather than paternal).
-Palpatine arranges that Leia be betrothed to Vader as a manner of subduing the rebels and spiting the Organas and his wayward apprentice in one fell swoop.
-Leia becomes the consort of newly crowned Emperor Vader, as well as his apprentice in the Force, and struggles to come to terms with her new position.
Leia Organa/Wilhuff Tarkin/Darth Vader
A mixture of the above ships... just Leia being caught between the attentions of two powerful Imperial enemies who have competing agendas to possess her, and her efforts to resist them in every way. They can be the worst most dysfunctional love triangle ever.
Leia Organa/Wilhuff Tarkin & Darth Vader
Same as above, but with Vader being aware of his fatherly role and taking a more platonic role in his protections of the Princess.
Prompts: -Leia is raised by Vader as the Imperial princess, and is given to Tarkin in marriage to secure the family bloodline. However she has other plans...
-Vader notices the Grand Moff creeping on the young Senator of Alderaan and, due to some unknown urging of the Force, is determined to protect her.
Jyn Erso/Orson Krennic
A forceful and obstinate rebel girl and an equally forceful and obstinate Imperial officer, both sharing a messy past and a connection to her father. They compel me and I think their sparring would be delicious to watch.
Prompts:
-Jyn and Krennic survive the Battle of Scarif and begin an enemies to lovers arc. Perhaps they are forced into close proximity in order to survive and must learn to rely upon one another.
-Galen takes his family with him back to the Empire, and Jyn grows close to the mysterious man in white.
-Forced marriage where the Ersos are desperate to protect themselves from the Empire and must offer up their daughter as a last resort.
Sabe/Darth Vader
Sabe is an intriguing side character-- the girl who grew up in Padme's shadow, devoting her life to the protection of her Queen. In the time of the Empire, she becomes a rebel spy, and meets Vader in the comics. I think they could make a very entertaining, tragic, and dysfunctional couple, with Vader looking for the shadow of the wife he had lost but eventually falling for someone new, and Sabe trying to come to an understanding of the man her Queen loved and see behind the mask.
Prompts:
-SPY x FAMILY-esque AU where, due to some strange political shenanigans they have to raise the twins together.
-Fake dating or forced marriage
-Sabe tries to assassinate Vader, but it doesn't go as planned.
Character: Winter Celchu
Winter has a lot of fascinating possibilities, being a child of Alderaan and so closely tied to House Organa, acting as the more subtle and gentle half of Leia's fiery spirit. She's also quite intellectual and a cunning rebel agent, which is really fun.
Prompts:
-Something to do with her spy missions for the Rebellion, her ability to slip so easily into different roles and maybe some angst about her true self disappearing because of that.
-Her relationship to Leia... it's said that when they were young the two would swap places and Winter would play as the princess so Leia could run away from her duties or play pranks. I think that could be a fun little story.
-Reunion with Leia after Alderaan's destruction.
Character: Rivoche Tarkin
Rivoche is an obscure character, but she intrigues me. She's the niece of the infamous Grand Moff Tarkin, but holds sympathies for the Rebellion-- even using her position as a socialite to spy for them. I think there are a lot of places she could be taken.
Prompts:
-Something dealing with her relationship to Uncle Wilhuff
-How she becomes involved with the rebels in the first place.

Ahsoka Episode 3 Spoilers/Thoughts
So I never actually got around to listing out my reactions to Episode 3. I laid out some of my thoughts on Sabine using the Force here, in two parts because I'm surprised it's taken me this long to transcend Tumblr's image limit on a post.
SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT!
My love for Huyang continues to know no bounds...obviously
Still annoyed that Sabine's injury is basically non existent at this point even if she does fiddle with her waistband like it still hurts. Girl you are moving fine, why are we pretending it wasn't a completely unnecessary plot point.
"You told her that??" "It's true." (Still loving the Tech/Huyang comparisons, which I laid out here.)
Oooh the training mask looks like the temple guard mask Kanan put on when he was blinded.
Those wooden training sticks are really beautiful. The props department did not forsake the details in this show.
"Anger and frustration are quick to give power, but they also unbalance you." I honestly really like Ahsoka's version of this more than Yoda's "they lead to the dark side." They can be helpful and sometimes useful tools, and they are innately human emotions. But letting them run rampart will leave you unbalanced and out of focus.
Mon my beloved! I realllly want to know more of why her leadership in the New Republic wasn't able to thwart the First Order (or I guess Thrawn coming back?) She's so capable and intelligent all through her efforts to fight the Empire and advocate for her people. I wonder if she kept her powers too minimal as an overcorrection from Palpatine that she was unable to influence senators like Xiono to do the right thing. Like give me a Dr. Pershing Mando season 3 level episode here on what's going on in the Senate, I beg you.
All of that said, in a vacuum I definitely understand the Senators' efforts to want to put resources toward their people and building up the new Republic, not further military operations. That's not a bad desire at all. Unfortunately it's just too early to let up on security yet (even though that is the same tactic Palpatine used to start squashing dissenters of the Empire in TBB).
Sometimes the dialogue in this show feels like it's not connected to the Rebels characters we know. Hera assuming that Thrawn had died in the first episode, now here she's saying he killed friends that were like family to her? Idk if these are Dave's attempts to give some context to new viewers, but they end up feeling like the characters don't remember what we know about them.
MEW is definitely nailing Hera's strength and emotion though.
Jacen!! And his hair is still green! I wonder what the Lego fakeout was for then. He's so Kanan's son. And Hera's face here!!
The whole conversation about the Force between Ahsoka and Sabine ahhhhhh
Lol the cup is so obviously on a track in the groove in the table
The entire conversation about Sabine between Ahsoka and Huyang AHHHHHHHH
DISASTER LINEAGE :D :D :D
Is it just me or if Hera and Sabine are going to be wearing heavy makeup, Ahsoka should have her darker purple lip color?
Sabine is everyone their first time playing a video game.
"I have several thoughts on everything else going on" LOL
I LOVE Ahsoka's ship. Homey and agile.
I was very worried that Huyang would get wiped with that power surge, but I guess after 25,000 years he's learned to have a backup databank or two.
Ahsoka in a space suit heck yeah. That's Anakin's padawan and Plo's adopted daughter right there. And I love that it's a continuous shot showing her getting back onto the wing/into the ship.
Marrok talking and flying a ship is so funny to me. Especially given ep 4.
Ahsoka and Sabine's dynamic feels much more dialed in now.
THE SPACE WHALES HAVE ARRIVED AND THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL
Huyang completely unphased at them almost dying multiple times. He knows what Jedi shenanigans are like.
Seatos is absolutely stunning. I can't get enough of the gray fog and the red trees
The visuals and the banter in this episode are 10/10
Intergalactic hyperspace lanes followed by the path of the Purgill!!!!
Man I need Baylon's backstory NOW.

i love hearung people infodump about stuff wven its stufg idk pleasr peladeplelfeldmf dies
( the angel apologizes for the late response to uur ask . it's been more than a week .oops . it's okay though because this infodump is HELLA LONG. /SRS )
i adore ppl who listen to infodumps > < /p gen
『 🪽 』
infodump about an oc
so, then, let me tell uu about the story of the half demon and the human she loved. (aka my demon Slayer ocs doomed Yuri )
this infodump is gonna require some prior knowledge to demon Slayer tbh > < I'm too lazy to explain details that are specific to the demon Slayer series Soz ... also my autocorrect might randomly capitalize Slayer so just ignore that
so let's introduce the characters !!
KAGUYA UBUYASHIKI
Tumblr media Tumblr media
kaguya's name above links her playlist that i made a few yrs ago !! the playlist is quite old and i don't add new songs to it as much but i quite love it a lot > < i think the songs suit her well so there's no reason to change anything
at the start of the canon series (like lets say kaguya is in the story because thats how i wrote it lmao) Kaguya is 25 years old. as her surname "ubuyashiki" implies, she's an adopted member of the ubuyashiki clan. her mother was a pillar (a pillar of what, I'm not sure yet ahaha...) who disappeared before kaguyas birth, and left the infant Kaguya at the doorstep of the ubuyashikis. they decided to take her in and raise her alongside kagaya ubuyashiki, the head of the demon Slayer corps at the start of the series. Kaguya is 2 years older than kagaya. she is also his only surviving sibling as the rest of their siblings committed suicide years ago (canon fact i read just now lol)
she doesn't know much about her mother, and only knows her mother through the stories that others tell about her. unfortunately, due to their line of work, those who knew her mother end up dying until she's the only one carrying her mother's memory. there rumors though that her mother had an affair with a demon right before giving birth to kaguya
Kaguya hopes to find her father one day. how she will do it, what would she do (ask him why it had to be her mother, ask him about her mother, kill him, form a relationship with him, etc.); she doesn't know.
fun fact about her father: originally she was going to be the daughter of muzan kibutsuji. because this was a common trope i did before, i made ocs who were the daughters of villains. i didn't really regard the villains as parental figures because i was in love with them, but i suppose i enjoyed the family dynamic this trope would have. it was interesting to imagine the villain parent as being softer and kinder to their daughter (if they were on the same side [kaguya would not have been on the same side as muzan, obviously]), their daughter being spoiled, treated like royalty, and inheriting the same villainous traits from their parent(s)... i actually did have another oc who was muzan's daughter, although she didn't exist in the same "universe" as kaguya lolz
... looking back at my childhood and family history i can see why i was so in love with this trope
anyways. Kaguya harbors a secret that she doesn't hide well, so most people are aware of it, but out of respect no one accuses her of anything. Kaguya might just be a half demon half human (okay well take out the word "might" because she IS). she exhibits great inhuman strength and speed, she can heal quickly from any injury (it's not as fast as the regular demons' regeneration, but she can survive injuries that humans would usually die from. she recovers quickly from injuries and never gets sick. healers love her. literally. i used to ship her with shinobu.) she's also allergic to sunlight and wisteria. she gets severe rashes when she stands under the sun for too long and her body temperature rises quickly when she's outside. hence, she wears a wide brimmed hat to protect from the sun. i also think she would wear her universe's version of sunscreen. she also feels nauseous around wisteria. heaven knows what would happen if she ingested it.
she's sort of a prodigy when it comes to being a warrior/fighter. she began having rigorous training to fight demons since she was 8 and since then she has become a high profile demon Slayer. (that age might change... it used to be 6 but i thought 6 was too overkill lol. that's really young isn't it. she should be at the playground /ref)
I'm a bit undecided about what her breath style should be. it used to be breath of the Phoenix (based on the song the Phoenix by fall out boy) and i have a design of Kaguya with red robes which would fit that breath style more, but I've grown used to purple robes Kaguya! i know i could have Kaguya use breath of the Phoenix while wearing purple robes, but robes are often symbolic of a slayer's breath style, and purple robes just don't really give Phoenix vibes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kaguya with red robes ! i use this design in an AU of kaguya's story. i won't go into the AU in this post but all one needs to know is: it's based on moon knight. because i just so happened to have a moon knight phase around the same time i was really obsessed with kaguya's story
another breath style Kaguya could use though is wisteria breathing. i just thought of this recently so it's a wip idea, but it could be interesting bc wisteria breathing is strong against demons but it will also hurt her. wisteria and all that. it feels symbolic of her as a character as well.. somehow
anyways, Kaguya is aloof, keeps her distance from others, acts invulnerable and cold, although she has moments of warmth and can still show kindness to others. she prefers that others do not get to know her on a personal level and keeps everything professional. her brother and her 1 or 2 friends encourage her to loosen up and they've tried everything to get her to socialize with others.
she's desensitized to her pain and others'. the corps often gives her the hardest jobs simply because she's one of their best fighters, so she's used to long battles (and winning). she's not cocky when it comes to fighting, but she certainly knows that she will eventually win. she rarely shows fear. she knows that a scared warrior is not what people need.
obviously she has a dash of trauma added to her character.
i realized Kaguya is extremely similar to mizu from blue eye samurai. i didnt intend fur that—kaguya was made AGES before BES was released, but i think that's really cool lol
RISA AKAGI
Tumblr media Tumblr media
kaguyas childhood friend who died at 25. she was a demon Slayer of a high rank, just like her dear friend. came from a rich family with parents that loved her; sadly they never understood her deep down. they didn't understand her dreams to pursue creative arts like writing and music. instead they wanted her to marry so they can become more wealthy.
her parents did arrange a marriage for her, but they lost their wealth anyway. and soon enough, risa lost her husband and her family.
risa was used to dealing with expectations. her peers often viewed her as a perfect unattainable standard. someone to watch and be jealous of. someone to compare themselves to.
she was a practical person who kept calm often. a lot of people liked her and thought she was easy to get along with. she always knew what to do, how to behave, to get people to like her and do what she wanted them to do. many people in her circle liked to act as if they know her well/personally/deeply but she's a guarded person who knows how to keep people away, just like kaguya. the difference between them is that risa can fool people into believing they're closer than they actually are
i actually never thought of what risa's breath style would be. kaguya was her main mentor when she was in training so maybe she developed a breath style based on kaguyas? like early on she was using a common breath style but ended up developing one similar to kaguyas. I'll think about it further though.
that's all i can say about risa.
so what's their story anyway?
their first meeting was when they were children (eight and eleven, risa is 3 yrs older). it was a short meeting, almost unremarkable, although they kept thinking of their meeting bcz they wanted to meet each other again very badly. their wishes were granted and they meet again as teenagers (14, 17). this time theyre able to form a friendship and oh, how close they become. it's like a once in a lifetime bond. and speaking of lifetimes they feel like they know each other from a past life.
^ note I'm not tryna be weird about this, they didn't develop feelings for each other until they were both adults/chronologically 20-somethings. Kaguya physically matures faster due to being half demon so physically she looks about risa's age if not older. she doesn't act like a regular young person either due to her life experiences. i made their ages like this to emphasize how she is stronger in terms of physical power despite being younger.
they are inseparable... except for complications in their life that do separate them. one, as they grow up, risa's marriage to an older man is arranged. as a result she doesn't have as much freedom to do what wanted (ie, hang out with Kaguya) like before. they find their ways though, don't worry. a bit after their marriage, risa's family loses their wealth somehow and they're forced to move to a small very rural town
two, Kaguya obviously has to hide her true life from risa. keeping such a huge secret causes fights and other troubles between them but what else is she to do? she just can't tell a regular civilian about the demon Slayer corps and demons at all . she wants to keep risa safe too so she has to tell her Absolutely Nothing
all of that becomes for nothing though when a demon attacks risa's family, killing her parents (and siblings that live with them, if i decide to give her siblings. i should give her siblings), her husband, and her husband's family too probably. but basically a lot of people are dead. Kaguya arrives and kills the demon, but at that point only risa was the survivor. Kaguya tells her about demons and demon slayers, and risa chooses to enlist in the corps.
when risa enlists, she's 20 and chronologically Kaguya is 17. of course she hasn't really properly ENLISTED yet because she has to go through the final selection ! ( i kinda find it funny that they call it the "final selection" when there's no other selection process for demon slayers other than this, but it's also kind of a final thing in the way that many people Die from it ) so risa moves to kaguya's estate and trains for three years before entering the final selection. obviously she survives and passes with flying colors because she was trained only by the best (kaguya <3). she became friends with the people she saved/helped in the final selection too
so now at 23, risa is a demon slayer! things go quite well in her career. she goes on pair missions with kaguya at first so that risa's safety is ensured and she doesn't have a hard time. risa is worried she actually isn't that good of a demon slayer and at some point she hates relying on kaguya during pair missions, thinking that her success is only because of kaguya and not because she has any skill at all.
aside from that risa also tries to deal with the trauma of losing her family and the mental and physical strain that comes with training and fighting demons. she's terrified that she too will lose her life one day but when she fights alongside kaguya she feels safe, and when she goes home to kaguya after a successful solo mission, she's determined to do her best fighting demons for the rest of her life so that she's happy when she dies
but then she thinks, does she really want to do this for the rest of her life?
kaguya thinks of the same thing too, because before this she was fine being a simple weapon for the corps. a weapon with no friends, no connection to this world, and no real passion in life. she's so strong, obviously she's meant to be a demon slayer, right? but being with risa causes her to rethink everything and what she truly wants
the two of them discuss if they want to retire when they're a bit older. get a nice house in the countryside and live together, raise livestock, and live a calm life where they never think about their missions and they never have to raise a sword against a demon again
,,, well
one day, risa goes on a solo mission and doesn't come back. kaguya knows where she went so she searches the whole place for her, and searches even farther, but none. she tells corps workers stationed in nearby locations to keep an eye out for risa, she searches every week for her, but she doesn't see her nor hear from her for months. she doesn't even find a dead body
what she does find, a few months later, is risa turned into a demon. she would find out later too that demon!risa had already killed a few humans in their time apart. demon risa has no memory of her life as a human, so her first instinct upon seeing kaguya is to attack her. risa is quite strong as a demon. it hurts kaguya to see risa fight with a variant of the same techniques she used when she was still a human
kaguya wants to save her, she wishes there was an ending to this battle that didn't involve risa's death, but she's relentless in her attack. it was either risa died or kaguya died
so she's slain by kaguya. let me just copy paste this line from my notes:
"as her head gets chopped and falls off, one moment from her human life flashes before her eyes. a blurry memory of her and kaguya sitting in kaguya's estate, drinking tea and enjoying the afternoon sun. the memory constantly changes shape and briefly morphs into other memories that she can't process, and it feels like a scene playing from far away. like a memory that isn't hers. risa doesn't think this is from her memory at all, due to the blurriness and transience of it. she dies facing the sky and a single teardrop falls from her eye."
risa was 25 when she died. kaguya was chronologically 23
as one can guess, this whole ordeal traumatized kaguya even further than she is already traumatized. poor thing. all of this would have taken place 3yrs before the main story (so kaguya would be 25 too when the main story would roll around)
okay, so what really happened to risa on the night she disappeared during the mission anyway? how did she become a demon?
i don't have a LOT of details sorted out, but basically she was wounded and super duper hurt during the fight, the demon she's fighting offers to turn her into a demon (i'm guessing she should've been fighting a demon moon then... oohh what if she thought she was fighting a regular demon but then a demon moon shows up and offers to turn her??) obviously she declines the offer but in the end she gets forcefully turned into a demon. so yeah !
i would also like to note that in this story, the demon slayers are aged up just a little bit. i'm sure it makes sense to someone that a lot of demon slayers are young—because they die before they can grow old— but a part of me was unsatisfied with that! so a lot of the pillars are in their early to mid 20s, with the exception of muichiro who is 17, tengen who is 31 (this bitch is 23 originally wtf??, and gyomei who is 44 (HE IS 27 I THOUGHT HE WAS IN HIS 40S)
thats all i have to share i think. thank GOD its all over now /s if one has somehow made their way to the end and read everything in this ramble, comment uur fav video game or something .
aaaaaand thats the end of kaguya ubuyashiki and risa akagi's wonderful backstory and their happy ending.

Oh, please lets talk about BKDK! Don't not talk about them on my account, hahaha. As cheesy as it may sound, I've had a lot of self searching and self learning because of them. I've unlearned a lot of things I was brought up with just by following their story, so please! Let's talk about them more! No matter how you look at it, those two are soulmates and each other's most important person, this includes each other's family. Inko has been a loving presence in Izu's life, but we don't know anything about his dad, and I have... thoughts about Kats' parents, so it is so, so important to me that they have at least each other to look out for. I have read the manga, and I'm currently caught up and DYING BECAUSE OMG.
I AM SO SORRY I LEFT THIS FOR SO LONG
I kinda got lost in tears of the a kingdom for a little while and work’s been exhausting so I kept getting distracted 😭 I’m sorry!!!
Every time I come back to MHA I find new things about Kat and Izu that I didn’t catch the first few times around and I love that!! This is probably erring a little on the meta/technical side of things but it says so much about the consistency of the character development when every little detail fits seamlessly into the narrative for that character so MHA is a dream come true for me. It’s such a masterpiece of storytelling and character development
I’m gonna go way off on a tangent now lol but the first time I watched the show I did not trust Kat at all. I thought they were going to shovel him into a villain arc and so I didn’t get attached. I honestly thought that was the lazy route and that we’ve seen it over and over again so I was kinda just waiting for it to happen but let me tell you I was thrilled that they didn’t do that to him. and then I realized we were looking at two sides of what it means to be a hero in Kat and Izu and boy was I hooked on them from that moment on. I’m such a sucker for the opposite-sides-of-the-same-coin thing and boy does bkdk deliver
(Also just the grumpy/sunshine dynamic though let’s be real I’m so soft for that kind of content)
I have got to find time to read the manga. This is the perfect time to do it too!! How long has it been since you found MHA?
