hi babes, my finals end on the third of may so before i start writing, if anyone has any requests/asks for james kelly, anakin, & clay… now is the time. i am open to like, venturing out a bit into more darker/dddne tropes, but my mind is blank on those concepts aside from the age gap/dbf type of stuff…. but also read my guidelines!! ‘m just really good at writing more tame things 😖

helloo!! my friend sent me the bi-han request you wrote for her and your writing is just a m a z i n g! i was wondering if i could request a mileena x gn! afab reader soft smut where mileena is having a stressful day of being an empress and reader tries to relieve her stress when they're finally alone? when it comes to the smut just please don't include any degredation etc!! if you don't write female characters then please ignore this request!!
Thank you for your request! I do not write softer smut frequently, but I tried my hand at it here. My bad habit of adding a plot came back today so I expanded on your idea slightly, I hope you don’t mind. Also, this is a shorter fic as I am not as experienced at writing smut for female characters, and I wanted to fulfil your request sooner rather than later, it had been sitting in my inbox for a bit and I didn’t want you to feel like I was ignoring it! I really hope I lived up to your expectations and that you enjoy it <3

Wc: 2.5k
Pairing: Mileena x GN!Reader
Warnings: 18+ only, angst (only an iddy biddy bit), established relationship, cunnilingus (Mileena receiving), I think that's all!
Tumblr media
Stressed doesn’t even begin to touch how Mileena has been feeling lately, not that she will admit to it. She’s too proud to confide in you how things have been difficult for her, but it isn’t hard to tell that things have been difficult.
Ever since her mother passed and she took over role of empress she has been trying so hard to be accepted by Outworld. She’s steadfast in ruling fairly and improving in specific areas where her mother had failed to acknowledge properly. Which, you admire greatly, she is a strong leader, and she has been doing an amazing job.
The only complaint you have comes back to her overworking herself, she can’t keep running herself to the ground like this. It makes for poor health and in the long run, will result in poor leadership. You have tried gently mentioning this to her before, but she is not very receptive to your concerns.
Being her partner, you’d have thought you would have more of a sway over things regarding her well-being and health, but she is very resolute in her ideas of ruling.
Tonight is not any different, you are relaxing in your shared chambers when she finally comes in for the night. You had stayed up late waiting for her.
Mileena sneaks into the room, trying to be as quiet as possible, thinking you are already asleep. You watch her move through the room in the dark, she stubs her toe on one of your dressers and it makes you chuckle.
“You’re awake?” She huffs.
You stifle your chuckles, “Yes, I am, I’ve been waiting for you.”
Possessing a flare for the dramatic, you flick the bedside table lamp on, displaying your very awake form. Sitting upright and crossing your arms over your chest, one of your eyebrows raise in her direction. Trying to convey to her with a single look that you have something important to speak with her about.
She sighs, understanding what this conversation is probably concerning, “I am guessing you were not waiting because you miss me?”
“Actually, this pertains to that,” you miss her, and you’re worried about her.
“Let me change first?” She asks.
“Of course.”
She thanks you and moves around the room, undressing herself as she goes. She changes into her night clothes fairly quickly and come to sit beside you on the bed, she turns to face you and you do the same.
Your hand reaches out towards her face, cupping her cheek, “Mileena, I am concerned for you, you have been overworking yourself and it’s effecting your wellbeing.”
You don’t want to mention it, but it is also affecting your relationship. Waiting for her to return to you and watching her stress herself is not easy. You will continue to wait for as long as it takes, loyal to a fault but that doesn’t make it any easier for you.
Her hand comes up and rests over top of yours, “this is my role now, I have more responsibilities.”
You pull back from her, eyes imploring, “I know that, but you are still a person, you are putting too much pressure on yourself to be perfect.”
This is upsetting for you, it’s the most you’ve seen of her in days, and it seems like this disagreement will turn into a fight.
She slumps her shoulders, and her head drops, she seems irate. Like you just aren’t understanding, like you’ll never understand.
“Mileena, I know why you are doing it this way, but you’re my partner and I don’t agree with anyone harming you, including yourself.” This is the most you think you will push it tonight; you can tell she is exhausted.
“I will consider what you have said but I cannot guarantee anything, my duties are immense.” The reply feels political in nature, but you understand, it must be hard to separate the two worlds. Especially when she is more often than not, Empress Mileena and not your Mileena.
You nod your head at her, leaning forward, you peck her cheek and say, “I understand, goodnight.”
Rolling over you flick the lamp off and lay down, trying your best to find sleep.
Mileena sighs deeply beside you, “Goodnight, my love.” She tucks your hair behind your ear in a display of affection before laying down and trying to sleep herself.
⊹˚. ♡
The sleep you have been getting recently is broken and poor, wracked with bad dreams and if there are no dreams, you still wake up with a haunted feeling. The discussion you had with Mileena was a week ago now and nothing has changed, if anything, it has gotten worse. Often, she will not even come to bed.
The poor sleep, you think, is a result of her absence. You used to be able to sleep alone no problem but now you have grown too accustomed to her presence in the bed beside you. You miss her warmth, you miss snuggling into her at night, or early in the morning.
Pushing her further is something you regret now, you thought if you had been a bit more insistent and voiced your concerns, she would be more open to slowing down. That has proven to be the opposite of the truth. Moving forward you aren’t completely sure what to do to help her unwind.
Wandering the palace halls is not one of your favourite pastimes but you’re at a loss for what else you should do presently. All other areas of interest have either, already been tended to today, or are not appealing to you currently.
You’re a little bit shocked when Mileena rounds the corner, even more surprised to see she is unaccompanied.
She also seems surprised at your presence, “What are you doing here? You don’t usually wander the palace.”
“I am at a loss for what to fill the rest of the day with.” You are honest with her.
“I could use some help, if you are willing?” She proposes to you, a rare request for assistance.
“How can I help, Empress?” You jibe her a bit.
Her smile is pleasant, it makes your heart twinge, missing her, “I am on my way to the record room, I’m looking for a specific piece of information and it is quite far back, more eyes would make the search go quicker.”
“I am at your service,” you beam at her.
You’re hoping this is your chance to finally be alone with her long enough to fill the hole in your heart where she previously resided. Or be able to talk with each other and move past your disagreement.
The walk to the record room is quiet and you can’t take it, not able to stand the silence. Not when you feel as though you’ve not spoken to her in weeks.
“I–” You both go to speak at the same time, it has you both chuckling.
“You go first,” she offers.
But you’re curious as to what she was going to say, “No, no, you first, please.”
“I miss you,” is all she says.
“I miss you too,” you reply.
The both of you having the same thing to say makes you feel better. The pair of you mutually missing the other. She also doesn’t seem to be cross with you and that makes you feel better too.
⊹˚. ♡
The record room is a gloomier vibe, compared to the rest of the palace, and it is a bit dusty the further back you go in the palaces history.
Mileena was right to ask for help, she would not be able to do this alone, in fact, “Don’t you usually have people who do this for you?” You ask her.
“Yes, but I felt like it would be better if I did it myself.”
You look at her dubiously and raise a single brow.
She looks to you and sees the expression on your face, “Okay, yes I can see how maybe I might not have to do this myself, and maybe in the future I will ask someone else to do this for me but right now, I get to spend time with you, and I am happy with that.” She smiles sweetly at you.
“Even if that means sifting through dirty old books?” You question.
“Yes, even if it means sifting through dirty old books.”
You blow an amused sigh out through your nose and walk over to her; she turns toward you and you pull her up into a hug. Embracing her fully, trying to hold her in a manner that makes up for the lack of hugs as of late.
Her head is pushed into the side of your own, she whispers to you, “I am sorry.”
“It is okay,” you tell her because it is.
“It is not, I have been neglecting you and our relationship in favour of my duties,” she pulls back from you, to look you in the eyes, “I will be a better partner and I will be a better leader.”
“You are already a great partner, and you are a fantastic leader, you just need to unwind a bit, being stressed will only create more problems in the long run.”
Your hands reach up and hold her face, she leans into your touch, “I just wish I knew how to relax.” She sighs.
Feeling bold you quip, “I know how to help,” and then you’re leaning in and claiming her lips with your own.
She sighs into your kiss, accepting what you’re giving her. Mileena’s hands come to rest on your hips and tug you closer. One of your own hands slides behind her head, the other moving behind her and in the middle of her back, pulling her in even closer.
Your head tilts to the side slightly and you lick against her lips, asking for entrance. She grants it and lets you slip your tongue into her mouth. A muffled gasp coming from her in response. The heat of the kiss making you feel dizzy, not having been touched or touched her in this manner in a while. The feelings, feel brand new again.
Pulling back from her lips, you trail down her face to her neck, pressing firm kisses and light sucks against it, careful not to leave any marks behind.
“Take of your pants?” You ask her.
“Here?” She’s taken aback by your brazenness, not usually one to be so adventurous.
“Yes, here.” You reply, you’re caught up in the moment. You haven’t had her pussy against your mouth in far too long, you’re practically experiencing withdrawals.
She pulls her pants down, undressing her bottom half, you feel like you’re died and gone to heaven.
Pulling your coat off you place it over the seat she was previously sat in, “Sit,” you state, patting the chair.
She has a breathtaking smile on her face, as she sits down, you lean in and kiss her deeply. Only for a moment before focusing back on the task at hand.
You kneel between her legs, “I am ready to serve, Empress.”
She rolls her eyes playfully at you in response and you return a large smile at her.
You kiss both her knees before moving her legs apart, spreading her wide in her chair. She isn’t sat forward enough for your liking, gripping her thighs, you pull her forward. Her cunt almost completely off the chair, the action pulls a delightful gasp from her.
Your hands hold her thighs open as you shuffle closer between her spread legs. Head dipping to kiss her thighs, sucking marks into the left one, from as far down as you can reach to as close to her pussy as you can get without touching her where she needs you most.
Little mewls and sighs come from her mouth as you suck, lick and kiss at her thighs. You switch to her right thigh, giving it the same attention as the previous. Sucking marks into the soft skin, moving closer to the apex of her thighs without giving her the relief of licking her pussy.
“Stop teasing, I don’t need the – hah – foreplay,” she huffs out at you.
Your smile somewhat devious, you blow cool air on her cunt just to watch it clench in response, “You are beautiful,” you sigh out in awe.
Another gasp pulled from her at your act, one that turns into a groan of pleasure as you finally put your whole mouth on her pussy.
Your arms come up and under her thighs, moving them to be held over your shoulders as you gently lick into her pussy hole. The noises she’s making in response to your mouth is making you lightheaded, wanting to stay between her legs forever if it means hearing her whimpers and moans for the rest of your life.
Your tongue moves from her hole to her clit, you flatten your tongue against it and encourage her to grind down on you. Her hips begin writhing up and down, chasing the pleasure your tongue is giving her.
You allow her to use you how she pleases before your hands hold her down, your tongue moving back into her pussy hole, tongue fucking her in earnest. Your nose pressing against her clit.
The stimulation you’re giving her has her hips itching to grind down against you again, her moans and whimpers breaking off into pitchy little gasps. Her thighs shaking around your head, you release her thighs lightly, giving her more room to grind into your face.
Her hand moves from the grip it had on the side of the chair to your head, “Fffffeels divine, my love–”
You release your hold on her completely letting her rut into your face how she desires, she moans loudly at the freedom, enjoying the pleasure she’s using you to give herself. Her cunt starts tightening around your tongue, she’s getting close.
Her thighs attempt to close around your head again, which you don’t allow to happen, your hands come up and hold them open.
She continues grinding down into your face, her slick leaking from her cunt, the taste coating your tongue. You moan into her pussy at the sensation, giving her added stimulation in response, her cunt twitching at the feeling.
Her voice starts to climb in pitch, her words garbled, “Hah – I – mm gonna –”
She cuts herself off with a loud moan and the shout of your name, her cunt spasming around your tongue, she’s cum all over your face. Which you happily receive, continuing to lick at her as she comes down, her hips still grinding against you, riding out her own high.
When she eventually stops moving, you lick and slurp at her cunt, collecting all the slick and cum she released. You pull back before you start to overstimulate her, but not before you press a kiss to her clit, she jumps lightly in response to it.
She looks boneless on the chair, a dazed look in her eyes as she says, “I definitely feel much more relaxed now.”
“I am glad,” you reply to her, looking up at her as your head rests against her thigh. You place small kisses there, “I love you.” You tell her, not for the first time, and certainly not the last.
Her hand strokes your hair tenderly, “I love you, too.”
Things aren’t prefect or magically fixed, but you think because it’s you two, you’ll overcome any issues you may have. Now or in the future.

A/N: Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed! I don't feel as confident posting this as I do about my other works as I am still new to writing and even newer to writing for women, so I hope this is received well! A small update for everyone, currently I am working through requests in the order that I have received them, so if you have sent me one recently, I am not ignoring it! I am just working through some other stuff at the moment. Though I have a fic idea for Johnny Cage that I want to write, so that might be written in between fulfilling requests :))

Note
Are there any other rules for making requests? Like are there any specific characters or other topics you will or won't cover? Are there any other fandoms you cover? How many characters can we ask about in a single request? And will we get less headcanons if we ask for more characters? For Persona specifically, can we ask about Confidants or characters from side games? Feel free to add anything else. Sorry about all the questions, just want to be sure. Thanks and have a fantastic day!
I'm gonna turn this into my new pinned post so don't mind the first portion.
You may call me Xepher. I'm 18+ and in college, so reqs might be slow. I go by she/her and my first (and only) language is English. Warning: I don’t proof read, more like briefly scan so you can correct me.
Masterlist
Let's make this easy and sort into sections lol
Characters
WILL:
Children (PLATONIC ONLY)
Teens (mostly platonic, late teens could be romantic)
Adults (platonic + romantic)
Robot/Mech (full on robo will be platonic, but mech features can be romantic)
WON'T:
Animal (like full on, animal features are OK) i.e. dog reader x dog character = no reader with cat tail x character = yes Characters like Morgana are the exception with being humanoid
Genres/Dynamics
WILL:
Character x reader (m + f)
Character x character
You can request multiple genres i.e. fluff to angst
Fluff
Angst (not good, but I try)
Horror (I'll give it my best shot)
Platonic
Romantic
Oneshot
Headcanons
WON'T:
Lime/Lemon
Yandere (clingy OK)
Dead Dove
Incest/Pedophilia/Abuse
Character x OC
Fandoms (more will be added)
WILL:
Record of Ragnarok (ROR)
Ragna Crimson
Howl's Moving Castle (Movie)
Legend of Zelda (LOZ)
Heaven Official's Blessing (TGCF)
The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (MDZS)
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (MGRR)
Devil May Cry (DMC)
A Date With Death (ADWD)
Tokyo Debunker
The above are part of a list already, the below are unofficial fandoms
Ashidaka - The Iron Hero will likely be added soon
I'm currently on the fence for MADK and Hazbin Hotel
There is also a possibility for Hellsing in the future
Any character from the unofficial fandoms will NOT be turned down, but also will not be a priority
WON'T:
I will write any fandom listed, the reason it's like that is because I probably won't know most fandoms outside what I have
Limits
I would prefer 3 or less characters in one request, however if you go one or two over it won't be ignored, just will take vastly longer
Headcanons will NOT be shortened if there are more characters, I usually have a lot to write headcanon wise, so they'll all be beefy
Persona
Persona isn't on the list and probably won't be anytime soon, BUT if it ever does get added, I will allow Confidants or side game characters
Where To Request
My inbox is open if I'm taking requests; but you can comment your request too
If my inbox is closed that means I'm not taking requests, anything commented will be ignored or pushed very far back
Crossover Requests
I have a post here if you're interested
Hope this answered all questions you and anyone else had

There were less than one hundred words to type for your latest freelance assignment, but you were bored with the project - a mundane piece about the effectiveness of self-driving cars.
But you always had two people who could brighten your afternoon, and you just so happened to stumble upon your most recent text conversations with Changbin while scrolling mindlessly through your applications. You smiled at the message you had composed for him, knowing that he wouldn’t take well to your teasing:
To Changbin:
Binnie, I’m wearing the lingerie you bought for me.
You giggled at the obvious flirtation, but you also figured that Changbin was too busy to respond, and you were ready to put your phone away when an unexpected message flashed across the screen.
From Changbin:
Show me.
You swallowed hard at the request. Did he really mean that? Could you sneak away from your writing and snap a few pictures for your boyfriend?
Of course you could. It wouldn’t be the first time that you entertained Changbin’s demands to see you all dressed up for him. And in consideration of the all the nice things he did for you on a regular basis, you could sacrifice a few minutes of writing time to indulge his fantasies.
Plus, since you were home alone, you had no issue taking off your t-shirt and sweatpants, exposing the saucy lingerie you wore underneath - a cute black thong and matching bralette that complimented your figure. It was clearly everything that Changbin loved to see on you according to his preferences, and you experimented with different angles, holding out your phone as your spread your legs across the couch, giving Changbin a perfect view of the tiny piece of fabric cupping your heat.
And after your impromptu photo shoot, you scrolled through the snapped pictures, picking the best ones, and nodding in satisfaction at your careful selections before sending the images to Changbin’s awaiting inbox.
From there, it only took five minutes for him to respond, and you glanced at the delivered message from him and shivered:
From Changbin:
Oh, princess, I’m gonna ruin you.
Tumblr media
The message held all sorts of ominous implications, and you made sure to greet Changbin at the door because he was inclined to give you the cold shoulder if you ignored him.
You smiled at him as he removed his coat and tie, allowing him to corner you against the wall, accepting his eager kisses as his hands dug into the meaty part of your thighs. “Come here,” he said, crooking his fingers at you while you proceeded to follow him into the living room like a well-trained dog.
You watched as Changbin took a seat on the couch, patting his lap to show you where he expected you to sit, and you were more than eager to straddle his thick thighs, wrapping your arms around his neck as he reconnected your lips. The taste of him was like the literal embodiment of passion, and you were moaning across the seam of his mouth while Changbin hiked your skirt further up your legs, groaning when he spotted a flash of black, hands kneading your ass as he rocked you against his hardening erection. “That’s a pretty sight,” Changbin said, and he connected your lips once more, kissing you with all the romance and care that defined Changbin’s affectionate side.
It reminded you, however briefly, that Changbin’s demonstrations of love had always stood in stark contradiction to Chan’s rough and aggressive treatment because it was often very difficult to even beg a compliment from your older boyfriend. “Your mind is somewhere else, princess,” Changbin interrupted your thoughts, tapping his fingers against your forehead to bring you back into the moment with him. “What were you thinking about?”
“You, of course,” you told him, running your hands down his shirt-covered chest, feeling the buttons as they crossed your palms.
“Good,” Changbin growled while he managed to successfully tuck your skirt around your delicate waistline, leaving you almost fully exposed where he clearly wanted you the most. “You sent me those pictures in the middle of my meeting,” Changbin continued, and you gasped when one of his fingers defied the barrier of fabric contouring your lower half, sinking into your warm heat with a sudden penetration.
“Changbin,” you whined, burying your face against the spot between his neck and shoulder, moving your hips to fuck yourself down against his finger because it was becoming clear to you that it would be all you were getting from him - a punishment for your earlier actions. “M’ sorry,” you said, breaths coating his skin with a thin sheen of perspiration while you tried to take him further inside, sitting down and enjoying every bit of friction as he scraped his nail against your sensitive walls.
“We’ll see how sorry you are,” Changbin said, latching his lips against the front of your throat to suck the skin between his teeth, determined to leave a mark.
And you would’ve complained about the red blemish that he was going to leave behind had it not been for the sound of the door opening as your other boyfriend returned home. But he was earlier than you expected, not that it deterred Changbin in the slightest who didn’t even seem to notice that Chan was standing in the entranceway to your shared living room. Eyes narrowed as he took in the scene of you being split apart at the seams.
“You both knew better,” Chan said, and it was an unusual greeting that prompted you into attention, realizing that something was wrong when Chan tossed his expensive leather briefcase onto the counter before rolling up his sleeves - something he only ever did when he was trying to be more intimidating. “Did you forget our plans for tonight?”
You gasped and froze in Changbin’s lap, suddenly feeling every bit like a bolt of electricity had just run through your entire being, switching off your arousal-addled brain even while Changbin seemed to be on a totally different wavelength, adding yet another finger and filling the room with loud squelching sounds.
It only served to piss off Chan even more, and you squealed when he interrupted Changbin to lift you up beneath your arms, tossing you over his shoulder with your thong-clad ass still on full display.
“Hey!” Changbin protested, fingers shining with the evidence of what he had just been doing to your poor throbbing pussy.
“You both knew that we had dinner tonight,” Chan called back over his shoulder, and his tone carried an obvious warning.
But Changbin wouldn’t be the one to suffer the consequences, and you were already dreading whatever Chan had planned when he dumped you unceremoniously onto the mattress in the master bedroom.
“Bend over,” Chan growled, and you whimpered but obeyed him, bracing yourself higher using your forearms for support. His hand twisted itself into your hair, turning your face to the side so that you were forced to look into his eyes. “What do bad girls get, Y/N?”
“No, Channie,” you whined because the thought of going to this expensive dinner tonight with a sore ass was not high on your list of priorities.
“No?” Chan repeated, and you hated to hear him so furious, landing a hard smack to your backside without any prior warning. “Do you want to try that again?”
“I’m sorry,” you cried, wincing at the sting. “I forgot about the dinner.”
“You forgot?” Chan scoffed, and you knew that you had just dug yourself into an even deeper hole, wrestling against Chan’s hold even as he allowed three more firm hits in quick succession. “Why is that, baby? Did it slip your mind when you were letting Changbin finger-fuck you into oblivion?”
“It’s not her fault,” came a much-needed interruption from the man in question, and Chan turned around with a glare to look at Changbin who had joined the two of you in the bedroom. “I forgot about it too.”
Chan scoffed in disbelief, running a hand over his face with a growl. “Were you both ignoring me for this entire week? Or, did you think I was just making up stories about the dinner that my office was hosting for our big case?”
“Lay off, Chan,” Changbin muttered, and you were only slightly relieved when you felt him soothe his hand across the burning skin of your ass. “We only have an hour before we have to leave.”
You watched as Chan paused, looking at nothing in particular, but it was something Chan always did whenever he had to begrudgingly agree with Changbin, even when it meant interrupting whatever punishment his sadistic mind had concocted for you. Because Chan hated to be interrupted, almost as much as he hated being left out or forgotten. He always made these things into a much bigger deal because he had a rough past where he was frequently neglected and ignored. It manifested itself into bouts of frustration that evolved into situations like this with you hunched over in place, praying that Changbin had gotten through to Chan and your boyfriend would forget all about your stupid mishap.
“Hurry up,” Chan eventually conceded, and you breathed a sigh of relief when he left the bedroom.
Tumblr media
Chan was a big, fancy lawyer upstate with a bunch of older partners who had willingly taken him under their wing when he graduated. However, back when you had first met Chan in college, he was much quieter and withdrawn, and you couldn’t even imagine how he would ever become a successful lawyer. But he changed, much like most people do during those formative years.
Chan was a lot more confident in several aspects of his life, including his job and the relationship he had joined with you and Changbin. But you might never get used to how he exerted himself around others, with a degree of self-assuredness that spoke to his accolades. For example, Chan’s introduction of you when one of his colleagues opened the door to their fancy penthouse suite, examining you and Changbin with scrutiny while Chan offered your names and proceeded to make you both seem far more important than you really were...not that Changbin’s office job was anything to be ashamed of, but Chan would really play up the two of you when he was looking to impress.
“Your girlfriend is beautiful,” the man at the door offered, eyeing you with an interest that you didn’t appreciate, especially when Chan tried to tug you away from Changbin and closer to himself....and the pig eyeballing your chest.
Which is why you hesitated, clinging even tighter to Changbin’s arm, but Chan shot you a warning glare, and you reluctantly offered your hand to him which he held in a firm grip. “Hello,” you said to the Senior partner who smiled and forced a wet kiss to the back of your outstretched hand.
“It’s a pleasure to have you here,” the man continued. “Come inside, we have plenty to drink.”
Chan laughed at the rather unfunny quip, waiting for the older man to head back further inside before turning on you and Changbin. “Behave,” Chan snapped, looking between you and Changbin with a fierce glare.
“Whatever,” Changbin grumbled, which you could tell that Chan didn’t appreciate, but he withheld the urge to argue.
Instead, Chan led the two of you into the outlandishly decorated penthouse, and you swallowed hard at the appearance of a golden chandelier hanging down from the ceiling - perfectly affluent in every means of the word. “Damn,” Changbin whispered, and you could tell that he was just as impressed as you.
And your open-mouthed wonder of the lavish space persisted throughout the rest of the evening - every time you tasted the sweetest champagne, nibbled on the most extravagant finger foods (caviar???), and indulged in the sweet little chocolates as they passed you on the trays of the smartly-dressed waiters. It was good enough to keep you entertained while Chan flitted from person to person, eventually leaving you and Changbin behind in the living room to go outside onto the balcony and enjoy a pricey cigar with some “very important” people.
Changbin sighed as he caught sight of Chan outside, craning his head back in laughter and smoke exhaled from his nose. “I don’t get why Chan wants to impress all these assholes,” Changbin said, tipping back his champagne to finish off the rest. “That old bastard over there in the corner? He hasn’t stopped looking at your tits since we sat down.”
“Changbin!” you hissed, incredulous that he would say something like that aloud.
“What? I can’t blame him,” he said, eyeing the swell of your breasts with obvious interest. “How fast can I make you cum from playing with your tits if we snuck away into one of the bathrooms, princess?”
“Chan wants us to behave,” you replied, even though you were very much weak for Changbin’s lips wrapped around your sensitive nipples.
“He won’t even notice,” Changbin grumbled. “But at least he’s in a good mood. It’s a nice change from hearing him bitch all the time when he comes home from work.”
“It’s a stressful job,” you tried to defend your older boyfriend, but you and Changbin both knew that Chan was taking the extra work on purpose, hoping it might land him a promotion.
“You hate it just as much as I do,” Changbin argued, snatching another flute of champagne from a startled waiter, downing the contents in two sips.
“It makes him happy,” you said, shrugging while playing with the hem of your dress - an adorable satin present from Chan for your birthday this past year.
“So, we can’t be happy?” Changbin asked, and it was a fair question considering the amount of arguing that your boyfriends had been doing for the past several months. Everything from serious issues like buying a new apartment, to something as inconsequential as the quality of your kitchen silverware.
“This promotion thing can’t last forever,” you pointed out, ever one to be optimistic even when things seemed less than ideal.
“I just want to get out of these clothes,” Changbin complained, pinching at the tight material hugging his thighs. “I wear suits to work everyday, and I hate being forced to keep them on for shit like this.”
“Well, I’ll make sure to take it off for you when we get home,” you purred into Changbin’s ear, brushing your nose across the lobe.
“You better keep that promise,” Changbin growled in return, and you were thrilled by the look of lust in his gaze. Even more so when Chan finally returned to you both with a bright smile and glossed-over eyes, clearly the result of too much alcohol.
“Ready to leave?” he asked you both, and you had never seen Changbin more impatient to escape a party.
Tumblr media
Once you were home, it didn’t take much to convince your boys to join you in the master bedroom - a few stray touches over clothes, whispered filtrations, and a quick flash of the expensive lingerie you wore underneath your dress before you found yourself kneeling between them on the bed.
Changbin had taken the initiative, kissing you like he was picking back up from where the two of you had left off from earlier that afternoon. And with some convincing, Chan agreed to share you tonight. Even though he still seemed grumpy about the fact that he couldn’t have you all to himself, but you were just glad that Chan was in a better mood, mouthing at your neck while Changbin unzipped your dress and drug it down your spine with his fingertips following the same direction.
“So good for us, princess,” Changbin said, taking a moment to look at you while Chan groped at your breasts through the thin material of your bra, nodding furiously when Changbin unlatched it from the back.
You allowed it to fall down your arms, leaving your entire upper half completely bare while you let Changbin drag you down onto the bed so that you were lying on your back with Chan dragging your panties down your legs. And Changbin had wrapped his arms around your torso, thumbs circling your nipples while he held you in an upright position, touching his lips against your shoulders.
“You made a mess, baby,” Chan remarked, and he spread your legs wide so that he could fuck into you with a grunt, starting an urgent pace from the second the head of his cock split your tight walls around him.
“Oh!” you gasped, loving the rough handling from the very start, feeling yourself press back against Changbin with every thrust, nipples brushing across Chan’s abdomen as he held himself over you.
It was pure heaven to be trapped between these two men, strong arms adjusting you to their liking, and thick cocks reaching places inside of you that had never been accessed before.
“Does he feel good?” Changbin asked you, collecting the tears streaming down your face as you savored the glide of Chan’s cock between your folds.
“Yes,” you managed between moans, reaching down to knot your fingers through Chan’s curls while your legs wrapped themselves around his waist, holding on for dear life as he used you to get himself off as quick as possible, cum dripping down onto the blankets underneath you.
And you came at the same time as your boyfriend, gasping for breath as Chan pulled out with a groan, supporting himself back against one of your pillows while Changbin brought you into his lap for his gentle touches, kissing the wet skin under your eyes and patiently waiting for your permission before he took his turn.
Oh, but you never minded these nights when your boyfriends were compliant enough to share you, taking their turn fucking you until you were barely coherent.
“Changbin,” you whispered to him, reaching down for his hard cock and giving his thick erection several strokes before guiding the tip to your entrance.
“Green?” Changbin asked, checking in with your colors because he was always so considerate whenever the three of you had sex.
“Green,” you confirmed, and he was using raw power to lift you off his lap, biceps straining, moving you up and down his cock without any resistance.
“Oh, fuck, princess,” Changbin groaned, looking down at the place where his cock disappeared inside your pussy with longing. “Even after Chan fucked you...how can you be this tight?”
You whined at the comment, bracing your hands on his shoulders as he powered his cock between your pulsing walls, swallowing his cock and urging him to take you even deeper, kissing the head of your cervix with a delightful prod of his tip.
Changbin was built so strong - after all, he worked out every afternoon - but it was almost ridiculous how easily he handled you, forcing you along his cock with complete ease...like you weighed absolutely nothing. But it was unbelievably hot, and you could feel your thighs straining with the effort of holding yourself up in place, even if he was doing most of the work.
But he was hitting all your best spots from this angle, and you had almost blacked out after Changbin started furiously stroking your clit, sending you into another high that pushed your head right through the clouds.
His cum joined Chan’s inside your sore pussy, and you could feel him softening despite the fact that your walls were still milking him for everything you could get.
“Greedy pussy,” Changbin panted, and you were almost proud of the fact that he looked just as exhausted as you did from your insane round of sex.
You were still breathing hard after your second orgasm of the night when you could feel the bed shift as Chan’s fingers dug into your hips, trying to force you away from Changbin. You whined in complaint because you weren’t quite ready for another round, squirming away from Chan and burying yourself even closer to Changbin’s warm chest.
Chan growled at your aversion, and you hesitantly glanced back over his shoulder to see that he wasn’t very happy with your unwillingness to let him have his next turn. “Gentle,” Changbin chided, and you whimpered when Chan’s strength won out and he manhandled you onto all fours, mounting you from behind before fucking his cock back inside without waiting for your compliance.
“Yellow, Chan,” you said, hoping that he would slow down, but it only seemed to spur Chan on even more, and he was practically bending you in half, pressing down on your lower back as his hips slammed against yours with every thrust.
“Stop,” Changbin snapped, and he shoved against Chan’s shoulder who wasn’t expecting the sudden weight, falling back onto the bed as his cock slipped free. “You’re being too rough,” Changbin said, and his eyes were narrowed at Chan as he pulled you closer, wrapping you into his arms and shushing your whimpers.
But Chan was even more pissed at Changbin’s interference, and you could only imagine the nasty look on his face as he spoke up from the opposite side of the bed. “You coddle her too much,” Chan said. “I know our limits.”
“Really?” Changbin snorted. “What kind of world do you live in where yellow means faster?”
“I would’ve stopped if she asked me to,” Chan said, and you were panicking on the inside because this sounded like the beginnings of another infamous fight between Chan and Changbin, and the two men were both stubborn and proud which meant that they could hold a grudge for weeks after an argument.
“Fuck, you just let her get away with whatever she wants,” Chan huffed. “She needs discipline!”
“She needs affection!”
“What the hell ever,” Chan snapped, and you watched him from the corner of your eye as he snatched his boxer shorts from the ground. “I can’t stand to look at you anymore tonight.”
“Good, maybe Y/N can have some peace without your negligent ass in the same room,” Changbin said, frowning when Chan shot him the middle finger over his shoulder on the way out, slamming the door to the bedroom closed with enough force to shake the entire apartment.
Tumblr media
It wasn’t the first time that Chan and Changbin had fought with each other, and it certainly wouldn’t be the last. But that didn’t give you any solace in the present, especially when fights between your boyfriends meant that your time was increasingly monopolized towards making sure that they didn’t do anything they might regret.
Of course, coming home after lunch with a friend, you weren’t expecting the detailed spreadsheet taped to the door of the master bedroom where you had been hoping to take a much-needed nap. “This is new,” you sighed, studying the worksheet outside the bedroom where a strict schedule dictated which of your two boyfriends would be sleeping with you - probably a product of Chan’s analytical brain.
On most occasions, whoever happened to fall asleep first would end up sleeping next to you in the bedroom, which had lately been Changbin because Chan often stayed up late to finish his work. However, given Chan’s competitive edge, you had a feeling that the two fought over this as well, resulting in the strict schedule that they would just expect you to accept.
“Chan!” you yelled, snatching the paper from the door while trying to track down your boyfriend.
You walked out into the living room, discovering Changbin standing next to the large sliding glass door which led outside to the veranda - glass of wine in hand. “Probably in his office,” Changbin muttered. “He’s had a stick up his ass all day.”
You rolled your eyes, even though you thought you had gotten used to Changbin’s dramatics. “Are you really drinking before noon?”
“I needed it,” Changbin whined, holding out an arm so that you could slide into place next to his side, snuggled against his broad chest. “I think it’s fine to celebrate a day off from work with wine.”
“Let me taste,” you said, allowing Changbin to tilt the glass against your lips, swallowing down the grape-flavored liquid, until the sight of Chan walking around the corner had you choking around your mouthful.
“Careful, princess,” Changbin chuckled, frowning when he met Chan’s gaze.
“You called me,” Chan said, holding a bag in one hand, and using the other to snatch you away from Changbin, pulling you down onto his lap on the couch as he kissed you fiercely, keeping Changbin within his sights.
“Yeah,” you said, gasping for breath when you were forced to part from him. “I found this on the door?”
You held up the spreadsheet, arching one brow in question, but Chan merely shrugged and ignored the piece of paper as he reached into his pocket for something. “Look what I got you,” Chan said, opening the velvet box to reveal a gorgeous diamond necklace inside.
“Channie,” you whined, allowing him to fuss with the clasp as he hooked it around your neck, letting the diamond fall against your collarbone. “You shouldn’t have.”
“Why not?” Chan asked, pulling you even closer when Changbin sat down his wine glass on the side table. “I wanted to do something nice for you, baby.”
Oh, so this was the version of Chan you were getting? The one who demanded all of your attention in a petty attempt to keep you away from Changbin. Too bad your younger boyfriend didn’t get the message, looming over the two of you as he crossed his arms over his chest. “Are you done?” Changbin asked. “We had an agreement.”
“Duh, I’m not an idiot,” Chan snarked, keeping a smile on for you even as his shoulders tensed in anticipation of another brush with Changbin. “I’m with Y/N right now.”
“But it’s my night!” Changbin argued, and you felt like the metaphorical toy animal being torn in half by two less than willing siblings.
“The fucking sun is still up, smartass,” Chan said, sneering at Changbin as he dug his fingernails into your hips - a possessive gesture.
“You’re the one who thought making that stupid schedule would fix everything,” Changbin returned. “Y/N is mine!!”
“Boys!” you finally shouted, startling both of them as you forced yourself from Chan’s lap. “We’re not going to start this shit again, okay? I hate it when you both do this to me!”
“Princess..” Changbin whined, but his refusal to see reason wasn’t stopping your tirade, putting your foot down and ending this stupid argument before it got even worse - and it always did before there was any chance of it getting better.
“No, Changbin,” you said, keeping your tone stern. “Last night was everyone’s fault. We know better than to just walk out without communicating - you both agreed to talk to each other whenever you disagreed on something. And I’m not just gonna sit here this time and watch you two treat each other like shit until someone breaks down to apologize! This fight is pointless, and I’m not about to let the two of you dictate my time because you can’t get along! Fix this shit now or you both sleep in the living room!”
You exhaled loudly at the end, taking deep breaths because you couldn’t remember the last time you had felt so agitated. But that’s what your boyfriends brought out of you in situations like this, and you left them behind to work whatever problems they had between each other before barricading yourself in the bedroom with a cold bottle of water and some ibuprofen.
Tumblr media
You didn’t cry over them this time; after all, plenty of their arguments in the past had driven you to tears and you were tired of it. Instead, you ruminated in silence, staring up at the ceiling of the master bedroom while waiting for the day’s exhaustion to finally catch-up to you.
However, you certainly didn’t anticipate a knocking at the door, followed by the sudden penetration of light from outside as Chan and Changbin both entered the bedroom while wearing matching looks of shame. “We’re sorry, princess,” Changbin said, keeping his head down as Chan sighed.
“You’re right about us fighting,” Chan said, and he walked over to the edge of the bed, brushing his fingers across your arm. “We talked about it, and we both know that it was a stupid fight. You didn’t deserve to put up with our mess.”
You snorted in agreement, patting the bed on either side of you as Chan and Chan eagerly snuggled against you from both sides, even if it was a tight fit on your queen-sized mattress. “S’ okay,” you said, allowing them both a kiss. “I went overboard too.”
“Not as much as us,” Changbin said, and his hand was gripping tightly to one of yours.
“I’m used to your fights,” you said. “I just wish they wouldn’t happen.”
Changbin whined while Chan sat up a little to look down into your eyes. “You’re right, baby, and we’ll do anything to make it up to you.”
“Maybe even right now,” Changbin said, and his fingers teased the hem of your nightgown. “I think Chan and I can prove to you that we know how to play together.”
“I don’t know...” you trailed off, knowing full well you would eventually relent, especially once they started touching you - Changbin skimming his fingers across your thighs while Chan found your clit between the silky fabric of your gown. “Do you want me from both ends?” you asked, and you could tell that they both liked that idea.
“Let’s make sure you’re ready for us, princess,” Changbin said, and you moaned when his fingers disappeared under your gown to fill your pussy so well, working on stretching you for his impossible girth.
“Good boy,” you said, just to see Changbin blush while Chan worked hard to remove his clothes, fisting his cock as you let them both move you into position, helping Chan kneel down in front of you so that you could wrap your lips around his cock, tasting the precum already beaded on the tip.
Chan threw his head back with a groan as you bobbed your head up and down his cock, trying to ignore Changbin from behind you as he opened the bottle of lube, applying a liberal amount to his fingers before inserting his fingers again, moving along the walls of your tight cunt.
“I love your mouth, baby,” Chan said, staring down at where you were hollowing your cheeks, taking him so well as the tip of his cock repeatedly hit the back of your throat. You tried not to gag, even as saliva pooled from around your lips, dripping down your chin and Chan’s cock.
“Are you ready for me?” Changbin asked, and you whimpered when Changbin’s cock penetrated you as you sunk down on him, groaning as his thickness stretched you to the point where you felt like he was in your stomach.
Chan was surprisingly gentle as he waited for you to adjust, only moving his hips at the same time as Changbin, and the three of you fell into a rhythm: once Changbin thrust his cock into you, Chan pulled you even further down his own erection, stuffing your mouth to the point where you couldn’t even hear yourself moan.
They used you like you were pliable, simply existing to satisfy them as you moved back and forth between the two men you loved. “You like this, don’t you, princess?” Changbin asked, grunting low in his chest as he started to pick up the pace, making it even harder to handle Chan’s full length in your mouth, sucking on his pulsating erection like your entire life depended on it.
“She does,” Chan replied for you, since your mouth was full of him, but you could tell that he was close, supporting yourself against his thighs as you waited for him to spill down your throat.
“Touch her clit,” Changbin said, holding your hips to help piston his cock at just the right angle, and you were barely coherent when Chan instantly obeyed - bringing his thumb down to rub circles on the little bud that always brought you the most pleasure.
Full at both ends, with your clit and g-spot being stimulated just right, you were barely hanging on by a thread. But you didn’t want to cum first; thankfully, Chan came just before you failed to keep yourself together, emptying his release down your sore throat before focusing entirely on getting you off. And when Chan was determined to do something, he was always successful.
“Channie!” you cried, reaching a bombastic orgasm that had you nearly blacking out because Chan was still working your clit while Changbin continued to pound your little ass, working himself to fill you up with his cum.
“Changbin,” you gasped, trying to hold on so that he could release where he wanted, and it only took a few more pumps of his hips before his cum was filling you to the brim, leaking down your thighs as soon as Changbin pulled himself free, collapsing next to you on the bed.
“Fuck that was amazing,” Changbin said, and both he and Chan helped clean you up before holding you as best they could between one another on your too-small bed, but the lack of space did nothing to deter the fact that it still was the best aftercare you had ever experienced.
Tumblr media
But here’s one argument you could prevent in the future: who gets to sleep with you at night without forcing everyone to deal with a cramped space.
After your night of passionate lovemaking, you convinced Chan and Changbin that it was time to invest in a bed big enough for all three of you to share at night. Which is why you found yourself in the middle of a furniture store, perusing the endless options while Changbin quipped about the music selection playing overhead.
“What about this one?” you gasped, falling in love with the mahogany-colored wood frame, running your hand along the smooth surface before falling down onto the mattress, giggling when Changbin joined you.
Chan sighed as he scrutinized the display sign while you and Changbin rolled onto the bed together, stretching out your limbs because the king-sized mattress was enormous! “It’s amazing,” you continued, trying not to scream when Changbin started to dig his fingers in your sides playfully.
“You’re gonna get us kicked out of here,” Chan said, ever the responsible adult between the three of you.
“Well, we have to see if it works,” you pointed out, patting the space behind you as Chan rolled his eyes but crawled in next to you, warming you from behind while Changbin nuzzled into your neck. “This feels nice,” you said, allowing your boyfriends to spoon you from both sides.
“I like it too,” Changbin commented, smooching a kiss across your lips when you weren’t expecting it, whining because it was wet and messy.
“It’s a little out of our price range...” Chan ventured, but all you had to do was turn to look at him with your best pleading expression, and he was breaking down with a muttered curse while reaching for his wallet.
Tumblr media
The next morning, you woke-up with Changbin holding you from behind, frowning when you realized that Chan must’ve stayed up late to finish his cases.
It defeated the purpose of waking up together, but at least you had fallen asleep with both of your boyfriends, and that was as fine of a start as any you could imagine. Hopefully, when Chan managed to calm down at work, you could enjoy those mornings you were imagining, smiling at both Changbin and Chan as you exchanged kisses and cuddles under the warm blankets.
“Mmm,” Changbin hummed from behind you, squeezing your waist while trying to open his eyes. “What time is it?”
“9,” you said, pecking his nose as he reluctantly let go of you, realizing that he had to be at work soon.
“Shower with me?” Changbin asked, and you hardly needed any convincing to join your muscular boyfriend underneath the warm pressure of the water, allowing him to run a bar of soap over your body, lingering around your breasts and the needy heat between your legs.
Afterward, the two of you walked into the kitchen together, and you discovered that Chan was already waiting with breakfast displayed on your finest plates. He watched you both as Changbin sat down at the table first so that he could perch you on his lap, holding you close while reaching for one of the croissants from the center basket. He started breaking off little pieces, bringing them up to your mouth to feed you while Chan seethed at the affectionate display.
“You’re being too nice,” you commented, allowing him a single kiss before he continued to dote on you, ignoring Chan who was mumbling about how there was a perfectly fine chair that you could sit on.
“Anything for my princess,” Changbin said, and you sighed because it was incredibly cheesy, but that was an endearing part of Changbin’s flirtations.
“Thank you, Binnie,” you said, puckering your lips for another kiss while you heard Chan muttering a curse from across the table. “Shall I clean up?” you asked once both men had their fill, grabbing the dirty dishes and carrying them over to the sink so that you could take care of them later.
In the meantime, you thought it might be nice to sit with your boyfriends for a while before they left for work, but you soon realized that a pleasant conversation was the last thing on Chan’s mind. And you gasped when Chan turned you around, bending you over the table and pulling your panties down your legs, spreading your thighs with his feet as he worked on his belt.
Changbin simply smirked at Chan’s actions, reading over the newspaper that he had stolen from Chan while sipping at his coffee - like it was just another casual morning in your shared household.
Perhaps it was true, but you couldn’t help the first moan that slipped free from your lips when his cock filled you with a pleasant stretch. “How does that feel, baby?” Chan asked taunting you with little rolls of his hips that were far too teasing for your liking.
“Faster,” you begged him, and he seemed to be in one of those moods where he ignored what you wanted, pulling out slowly and repeating the sensual motions over and over again at a snail’s pace, keeping you just dangling from what would drive you to the edge.
But Chan was being petty after putting up with Changbin’s doting, refusing to just give-in and pound you onto his cock like you knew he could. Instead, you could tell that he was punishing you for not sitting at the table earlier, forcing him to watch you swoon over Changbin. And jealous Chan was a greedy lover, which meant that every time Changbin so much as glanced in your direction, Chan was trying to shield your body from his gaze, burying his face into the side of your neck as his cock stroked your insides so well.
“Don’t get cum on the floor,” Changbin said, peeking at you from over the top of the paper. “It’s hard to clean.”
It was a throwaway comment, but Chan didn’t take well to Changbin’s interruption, and he started moving even faster, forcing more moans to leave your lips as he started hitting your g-spot perfectly on every thrust. “Like you haven’t done it before,” Chan growled in return, hands holding your hips so tight as he pummeled you against the table, bruising your hips on each stroke that forced you to collide with the rough wood.
It felt so good, even the pain from his touch and the table, and the added stimulation of Chan’s fingers moving messily around your clit - everything was guiding you by a string to the precipice. And you were more than willing to follow that string to the end, falling off the edge with an explosion of ecstasy, coming around Chan's cock with a stuttered gasp of his name.
Your boyfriend grunted when you squeezed his cock so good, lips pressing against the back of your neck as he came inside, and you both remained in that position for a few moments longer, savoring the delicious release, until Changbin slammed down the newspaper and stood up to get you both a towel.
Tumblr media
The remainder of the day progressed uneventfully, and you were still preoccupied with your freelance work by the time your boyfriends came home.
Chan must’ve went straight to the office, but you followed your nose to Chanbin who was standing in the kitchen over the stove. “Are you cooking tonight?” you asked Changbin, leaning into his weight as he smiled and offered you a gentle peck in return.
“Well, it was supposed to be Chan’s night, but I didn’t want to bother him when he got home,” Changbin explained.
“He must be in a bad mood,” you remarked, keeping yourself perched on the counter-top next to Changbin as he grilled.
“Go check on him,” Changbin suggested, giving your ass a teasing slap when you hopped down from the counter.
Tumblr media
But it was far too quiet when you stood outside of the office, holding your breath once you knocked and received no response.
“Chan?” you asked, opening the door to the office so that you could step inside the room.
You frowned when you discovered that Chan was sitting at his desk, eyes glued to the computer screen as his fingers made a mess of his curly locks. “Are you okay?” you asked him, and the sound of your voice interrupted whatever strange reverie he must’ve been locked inside.
But the look on his face sent a shiver down your spine. “What did I say about interrupting me while I’m working?” Chan growled, forcing you to bend over his lap as he pulled up the hem of your t-shirt, exposing your ass to him.
“Chan...”
“Y/N,” he replied, and you relaxed when you realized that his tone wasn’t angry - he was just looking for a way to relieve his frustration.
“I’m sorry I came in here,” you said, playing along with his charade.
“It’s too late for apologies,” Chan said. “How many do you think you deserve?”
“Ten?” you asked, wincing when Chan hummed in response and started to rub his hand over your ass.
“I think that’s sufficient,” he agreed before giving you the first slap - a sharp stinging pain that went straight to the wet arousal decorating the front of your panties. “Make sure you count for me.”
“One,” you whispered, closing your eyes and relishing the closeness to your boyfriend’s evident excitement - erection already straining through his jeans.
“Good girl,” Chan said, and the next three hits were much harder than the first, filling the room with the sound of skin-on-skin and your stuttered counting, gritting your teeth through the pain laced with something erotic.
You wondered if Changbin was curious about your absence, or if he just assumed that something like this would happen: you stretched out across Chan’s lap, his cock digging into your stomach, while he imprinted his hand across your ass.
“Ten,” you eventually exhaled, sucking in a sharp breath when Chan grabbed you by your hair, curling his fingers through the strands while forcing your head to look at him, colliding your lips together in a messy exchange of tongue and teeth.
“Look at you,” Chan said when you broke apart for air, hoisting you higher on his lap to bring your back against his chest, shoving his hand down the front of your panties to run his fingers through your wet folds.
“Right there,” you gasped when he inserted an index finger to the knuckle, using his thumb to canvas rough patterns of circles against your throbbing clitoris.
“I’ll finish you off, baby,” Chan growled into your ear. “But I expect you to return the favor.”
“I will, Channie,” you promised him, whining when he pulled his fingers from your panties, gripping you beneath your underarms to help you turn around on his lap.
“At the same time,” he said, reaching down to unbuckle his pants and free his engorged length.
You moaned when he held himself at the base of his erection, rubbing his tip against your clit, stroking himself with a tight fist while you used one hand to ground yourself against his shoulder.
Eventually, you took over from him, pleasuring his cock so that he could return his attention to your needy cunt, inserting two fingers this time and giving your clit the pressure you needed to cum spiraling out of control, dropping your head against his chest as you finished him off - feeling his release drip down your hand.
“Y/N,” Chan grunted, and you managed to look at him when he kissed you again - something sweet and soft that melted you. Because kisses like this were rare from Chan, and you figured it had something to do with the fact that Changbin wasn’t around to tease him.
“I think dinner will be ready soon,” you whispered against him, leaning back to offer him a smile since the one you received in return reached every warm part inside of you.
Tumblr media
When you and Chan emerged from the office, Changbin made a grand ceremony out of his latest concoction - some kind of stew that was meant to be really healthy.
But the smell was questionable, and Chan grimaced after his first bite. “Uh, what the hell is this supposed to be?”
“You don’t like it?” Changbin asked, looking at you for a second opinion, and you forced a smile while taking another bite.
“It’s good, Binnie,” you reassured him, and Chan frowned at your blatant lie while Changbin smirked in that self-satisfying way of his that always promised a good time for you later on.
Still, the three of you managed to have an amiable dinner, talking about everything from Chan’s work to your latest freelance projects. There was a good atmosphere following the end of your meal, and you promised Changbin that you would help him clean-up, following him into the kitchen with a smirk.
You both started on the dishes together, but you made sure to tease him at every opportunity, brushing your hands and fingers together when he handed you a plate, or rubbing your chest against his back whenever you walked between the counters.
Eventually, Changbin gave-up on his practiced indifference, looking at you with a playful gaze. “Is there something you want?” Changbin asked, and you didn’t even need to say anything as you dropped down onto your knees in front of him. “Did you like dinner that much?” Changbin chuckled, but you ignored him while working down the zipper of his jeans, reaching inside for his half-hard cock before giving yourself a taste of his beading precum.
Changbin inhaled at the first touch of pleasure, bracing his arms back against the counter while he watched you work your magic with hooded eyes. “Was this your plan all along, princess?” he asked, but you knew that Changbin was a big talker whenever it came to one of your legendary blowjobs, and you continued to ignore him while taking as much of his girthy length as you could manage, feeling your lips part around him as you relaxed your jaw and throat.
“Can I takeover?” Changbin asked, and you gave a quick nod before one of his hands was coming down to grab your hair, thrusting his hips to force the rest of his length into your warm mouth, forcing you to gag at the sudden intrusion. “So good,” Changbin whispered, throwing back his head with a moan.
It made you feel good too - knowing that Changbin was taking so much pleasure from your mouth, tongue tracing the slit at his tip because you knew that he was extra sensitive there. And Changbin reacted just as you thought he would - growling out your name as he lost all control and jerked his hips back and forth to get the most out of what you were offering to him.
You would have a killer sore throat in the morning, but it was worth it to see the blissed-out look on Changbin’s face, watching him cum with a mumbled curse around your name.
“I guess I’ll have to cook more often,” Changbin remarked, pulling you up onto your feet to kiss away your tears.
Tumblr media
Later on, you sat between your sated boyfriends on the couch, watching some sort of Christmas movie on TV while disregarding the popcorn that Chan had made.
But your eyes were starting to grow heavier, leaning more of your weight against Changbin as you tried not to fall asleep. It was starting to get late, and you knew that Chan had noticed the signs of your exhaustion when he turned to look at you for a moment before looking back at the film. “Bed, Y/N,” Chan said, still staring at the TV and ignoring the way you cuddled even closer to Changbin.
“She can stay up until the movie ends,” Changbin said, carding his fingers through your hair.
“She’ll feel like shit when she wakes up early in the morning,” Chan retorted.
You frowned when you sensed another argument between them. “Let’s have a bath together,” you suggested, breathing a sigh of relief when they both reluctantly agreed.
“But then you’re going to bed,” Chan inserted, and you rolled your eyes but agreed with him.
It was just Chan’s way of looking after you, and the three of you walked to the bathroom together, Chan working on getting the water to the perfect temperature while you and Changbin made a big show of taking off the other’s clothes, running your hands across bare skin and kissing him with tired eyes.
“Go ahead,” Chan said, starting to remove his own shirt and pants while Changbin sunk down beneath the water first with a groan, holding out his hand for you.
“Thank you, Binnie,” you said, feeling nothing short of affectionate as you offered him another kiss before you sensed Chan making himself comfortable behind you.
You squealed when Chan wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you against his chest while Changbin reached for your discarded razor from the sink, supporting one leg against the tile while he started to run the blade across the expanse of your skin.
“Comfortable, princess?” Changbin asked, and you nodded your head in agreement.
“We should do this more often,” you said, smiling when Chan started to massage some of your shampoo into your hair.
“But not too late,” Chan reminded you, but you couldn’t find it in yourself to be annoyed by him; after all, he was only trying to take care of you - they both were - and you could think of no better ending to a chaotic afternoon than the situation you found yourself in - enjoying the presence of both your boyfriends as they showed you just how much they loved you.

Chapter 1: There's a somebody I'm longin' to see
“I can’t watch this anymore!” Tony said storming into the compound’s kitchen one night.  Steve looked up from his sketchbook in confusion. “I can’t watch you sit in here another friday night. It’s tragic!”
“Ugh, not this again, Tony.” Steve says, sighing. Nat and Bucky begin snickering next to him, knowing where the conversation was going.
“Yes, this again. Cap, I excused it for the first couple of years because you were adjusting to the times but it’s been years! If you’re not on a mission, you don’t go out! Sometimes, when Pep is having trouble sleeping I describe your social life to her, puts her right slee--”
“Alright, I get it!” Steve cuts him off, slapping Bucky, who was in full hysterics at this point, in the arm. “I know my personal life is--”
“Non-existent?” Nat provides.
“Dead?” Tony adds, laughing.
“But it’s my personal life. I’m over 100 years old. If I looked it, you guys wouldn’t be questioning my staying home.”
“Exactly, if you looked it, I wouldn’t. But you are not that old yet.” Tony says. “Come on, let’s just all go out once. If you don’t like it, I’ll never make you go out again. I’ll even get you a coloring book or a model ship, or whatever old people do.”
“Fine.” Steve sighed, as the man next to him cheered. “But nothing like those places you typically go to. They’re too noisy and sweaty and--”
“Yea I got it, old-timer. We’re not going anywhere like that.” Tony provides. “My friend recently opened a restaurant where their back room is a speakeasy, very accurately themed, you need a password and everything to get in. You’ll fit right in.”
“Prohibition ended in the 30s.” Bucky says. “Long before Stevie could even drink.”
“Even still, work with me a little here.” Tony says.
“Fine.” Steve sighs.
“Awesome. Now, you’ve got to come in costume to these things so I’ve already taken the liberty of telling my tailor to make you guys something.”
“What if I had said no?” Steve asks.
“Oh, Cap. You should know by now I don’t take no as an answer.”
----------------------------------------------
Steve shifted uncomfortably in his uniform. It was almost exactly like the one he would wear out during down times in the war though he knew it wasn’t the real one as that one was in the Smithsonian. Still, Tony’s tailor did a good job with seemingly all the costumes. Tony looked almost identical to how Steve remembered Howard back in the day. Bucky was in a uniform that looked similar to his back in the day, Glove covering his metal hand. Natatsha was in a sleek red gown, white gloves and pearls that was more modest than he’d seen her wear but still made her look drop dead gorgeous.
Tony led them down a dark alley to what seemed to be a back door. Steve looked around confused as they entered the smokey hallway. At the end of the hallway there were two large doors and a lady with pinned up hair and a black shimmery dress, smoking with her feet propped up on the desk she was sitting at.
“Evening gentlemen.” She croons in an english accent. “And lady. Are you lost?”
“We have a meeting with Dr. Volstead.” Tony says, confidently.
The woman tilts her head back giving all of you a once over. “It’s a nice night, isn’t it?” She asks.
“Yes, it is. But I prefer the rain.” Tony says.
With that the woman stands and walks over to the large doors and knocks rhythmically 3 times. The doors open to reveal a large dance hall where couples are in full swing, laughing and drinking. A trio of girls crooned a faced paced song as a jazz band was playing behind them. For a moment, Steve did actually forget he was in the 21st century.
“Enjoy Paradise, my friends.” The woman smiles, before shutting the doors to the outside world.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You were in the kitchen, taking a much needed headache break from the facade you had been putting up for your tables all night long when your Co-worker, Dalia, came up to you.
“Y/N, Y/N! You have to trade tables with me.”
You looked at her with a suspicious look. “Why?”
“Come on, It’s a 4-top anyway. I’ll even trade you the party table for it.” That made you even more suspicious. “50 bucks for it, come on.”
“Don’t trade, Y/N/N!” Your co-worker and friend/roommate, Jade added. “Tony Stark is in your section. I bet she only wants to give you 50 for it because she knows she’ll make 500.”
“Come on, that’s not even why.” Dalia groans. “Black Widow is also at your table and you know she’s on my ‘Celebrities I have to fuck before I die’ list.”
“God, are the rest of the avengers here?” You ask.
“Not all but you know who is here?” Jade asks. “Steve Rogers.” She says, in a mocking singsong tone, jabbing you. Your crush on Captain America wasn’t really a secret anymore after you confessed it drunk one night. “And he looks almost edible.”
You hum, you didn’t really feel like taking another table but this wasn’t a normal table. You doubt you had a chance but you weren’t passing up on serving Steve Rogers.
“I’ll make you a deal. I still want that 50 bucks and we share the table, I’ll consider splitting the tip.” You say, the idea of making your rent in a night did appease you.
“Deal.”
“Now ladies, I have a song to do.” You say, leaving the girls behind in the kitchen.
—————————————-
Steve, for the first time in a while it seemed, was having fun. Tony was right, he did feel like he fit right in here. He clapped with the crowd, as the three girls bowed and left the stage. The piano man stood up and took the microphone Steve could tell was only styled to look old but actually wasn’t that old.
“One more time for the Duclaw sisters folks.” The smooth voiced man said into the microphone, inciting another round of applause from the crowd. “Our next performer is actually the last of the night.” That incited a few ‘awws’ of disappointment. “Don’t cry just yet because Old Gary never disappoints, our next performer is my personal favorite. Sings like a Canary and the Cat who caught it.” That induces a laugh from the crowd and a small chuckle from Steve. “And maybe if you’re good she’ll come on for an encore later. Ladies and Gentlemen, The Sultry Sounds of Y/N L/N.” He says, moving from the mic back to the piano as the crowd cheers. Steve watches the stage as arguably the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen seems to glide out from the backstage. She’s wearing a floor length silver gown that seemed to glimmer with every step she took. Her hair came down in long fingerwaves, pinned back so you could see the sculpt of her face. Steve would be lying if he said that wasn’t his favorite part of her facade. She had on simple eyeliner, foundation, and a bold red lip he could probably see from mars. You were beautiful, in a timeless sort of way.
“My, my.” She crooned in an sultry old new york accent that reminded Steve of the women he grew up around. “What would your wife say if she knew I was your favorite, Old Gary?”
“She’d agree!” The man called from the piano, inducing the chuckle from the crowd. And a deep sultry one from you.
“Well as they say, two’s just fine but three’s a party.” She winked at the old man in a way that would make Steve weak if he wasn’t already sitting.
“You ok there, Cap?” Tony said, snapping Steve out of the mystery woman’s trance. “You disappeared for a second.”
“I’m fine.” Steve said, fighting the flush that threatened to spread over his face. He looks out the side of his eye to Bucky, who was smirking at him knowingly. Of course, he knew.
“You know, you saying something about being good got me thinking, Old Gary.” She said, as the man softly played behind her. “A good man is hard to find. Great men are great, bad men are good sometimes too.” She winked to the crowd. “But every girl wants a good man, someone to watch over her.” Old Gary seems to take the cue to start playing her song.
“There's a saying old, says that love is blind. Still we're often told, ‘seek and ye shall find’” She began singing and it made Steve sit up in his seat. She had the kind of voice that was almost beckoning. She was becoming his own personal siren. “So I'm going to seek a certain lad I've had in mind”
“She’s a looker, huh?” The server, who introduced herself as Dalia, said as she sat down Bucky’s drink. “Y/N’s the main dish of this place.”
“I think I’m more interested in you, doll.” Bucky flirted, shamelessly.
“And I think I’m more interested in dames, Soldier.” She says, winking to Natasha who smiles coyly at her. Steve hardly pays them any mind as his focus was on you as you finished your song and thanked the crowd and waved while Old Gary helped her off stage.
------------------------------------------
You were changing from your stage outfit into your floor outfit when Dalia burst into the locker room.
“Y/N/N, I actually think I might have a chance with Widow. I mean, she’s kinda been ignoring me the whole night but when I mentioned I was into girls she smiled!” Dalia ranted, excitedly as you nodded. You turned your back to her so she’d get the clue to zip you up which she does. “Also, you should’ve seen the way Steve Rogers was watching you sing. He totally wants to hit that.” That makes you perk up a bit.
“I doubt it. I have it under good authority that he hasn’t hit anything in over 70 years. I doubt I’m what he’s been waiting for.” You laugh. “Still, it’s fun to think about.”
Dalia tugs you out of the locker room. “Come on, let's get back out there.”
You sighed before stepping out of the locker room and seemingly out of this century.
You fake laughed with a guest at the bar as you grabbed your tray of drinks and made your way over to the table that had been making you nervous all night. You placed the four whiskey rocks drinks on the tables.
“Courtesy of Dean.” You say, placing the drinks down. Stopping at Tony Stark. “Don’t know why? You seem to be the butter and egg man out tonight.
“Butter and egg?” He asks, looking to Steve and Bucky.
“Means money man, High roller.” Bucky explains, Steve nods.
“Ah, well I am that.” Tony says, laughing. “I must say Miss, what was it? Y/N?” You nod confirming. “I have to say you are quite the performer.”
“Thank you kindly, Mr. Stark. Go ahead, dip your bill.” You say pointing to the drink, Hoping they’d get the hint. They did of course, after seeing Steve and Bucky take a sip. You watch Steve grimace slightly at the taste of the liquor.
“Everything alright, fella?”
You watch Steve flush at the attention being tossed his way. You can’t help the confident smirk that graced your face knowing it was you that had Steve Rogers flustered. “I’m fine, I just don’t enjoy the taste.”
You hum. “Yea, it’s the big cheese’s favorite drink and he’s known for liking it rough.” You wink, somehow making Steve flush more. That made you want to push it more. “I’ve got some corn in the back they call the Y/N because it feels really good when it’s going down.” That makes Steve choke a little and induces a hearty laugh from the group. “Can I get you a glass, Soldier?”
“Y-Yea, I’d like that.” Steve flushes. It was almost fun at this point.
“I’d love to try the real thing.” Bucky says, flirting right back with a smirk you knew has to make every girl in the 40s weak in the knees. You didn’t indulge him though.
“Well, aren’t you a regular cake-eater.” You smirk. “I’ll be back with two glasses.”
“I see the serum didn’t enhance your ability to talk to pretty girls.” Bucky laughs as you want away. Steve can’t help but become a little distracted by the sway of your hips.
The rest of the night seemed to go like that. You bringing them drinks and flirting with the captain anyway you could just to see the pretty flush that spread across his face. But soon the time came for the superheroes to take their leave. As you sat the check in front of Tony, you brushed a hand over the Captain’s shoulder admiring the broadness of them.
“You’ll come back and see me, Sugar?” You say, phrasing it like a question despite it not really being one. Steve nods, dumbfounded by you. You smile and wink at him before walking away.
You’re in the kitchen eating the pizza you had ordered earlier when your manager, Dean comes out of his office for the first time that shift.
“Y/N!” You roll your eyes when you hear him scream your name. “What do you think you’re doing?!”
“I’m eating dinner. Something I could’ve done on my break if I ever got one.”
“You know you’re not supposed to be eating anything that couldn’t be made in the 30s. People pay for the illusion and if they see you gorging yourself on pizza, it ruins it.”
“No one’s looking in the fucking kitchen, Dean.”
“Uh-huh, and another thing. You know what kind of songs you’re supposed to sing.” You roll your eyes harder. You knew this argument was coming. “That song is from the 50s and you knew it.”
“None of those bullshit hipsters know who Ella fucking Fitzgerald is!” You yell. “Much less what years her fucking songs came out. That song killed and that’s all that fucking matters.”
“Change your set or you’re fired.”
That makes you laugh in his face. “Uh-huh, as if you’re going to find a singer who’ll work as cheap as me.” You say, brushing past him. “See you tomorrow.”
----------------------------------------------------------------
Steve comes back to the bar the following week. He tells himself that it’s just for a quick drink but he knew the real reason was because he could not stop thinking about you. He also knew you were probably just being friendly because it’s your job to. He just needed you to reject him so he could go on with his life.
He found himself in that hallway again approaching the woman he had seen last week.
“Evening, Sir.” She says. “Are you lost?”
“Umm.. I have a meeting with Mr. Volstead?” Steve questions, not really recalling the password fully.
The woman hums. “Nice night, no?” She says.
“I prefer the rain.”
The woman sighs. “I’m sorry. I typically would let you in because I don’t really care but technically I’m not supposed to let anyone who doesn’t know the password in… even if  they are kinda famous.” She says. “The password changes every week. I’m sure if you ask Mr. Stark, he can find it for you.”
“Oh, no worries. Sorry for wasting your time.” Steve sighs, turning back out the building.
He’s approaching where he parked his bike when he hears a string of expletives being screamed followed with a car stuttering before not starting. He looks over to see a woman angrily get out of her car and lift the hood to see it smoking. The woman lets out another stream of expletives before kicking the tire and leaning her head on the roof of the car, defeated. For some reason, he feels compelled to go over and see how he could help. As he got closer he couldn’t believe his luck, it was you. He tapped you lightly on the shoulder and you turned with the beginnings of tears in your eyes.
“Oh, Soldier!” You said, quickly turning around to wipe your eyes and putting the facade you typically used with customers back up. “I almost got offended when you didn’t come back to see me. Imagine a broad’s old luck.” You said, smiling flirtatiously. Steve didn’t buy that smile for a second. He could see in your eyes you were still upset.
“Everything okay?” He asks.
“Oh, everything’s swell! This old jalopy has seen better days, gonna drop a dime to a friend hopefully--” You cut yourself off, switching into your normal speaking voice. “Listen, I’m sorry I just can’t keep talking like this off the clock. I’ll drive myself insane. Please, don’t tell my boss. I’m already on thin ice for not ‘maintaining the illusion’.”
Steve laughs, a weight suddenly feeling lifted off his shoulders. Suddenly you weren’t this mysterious woman who seemed to have all the right things to say and how to say them. You were human, just like him. “Your secret’s safe with me.” He says.
“Good.”  You say, smiling briefly. “Now, if you’ll excuse me. I’ve gotta call Triple A for a tow.” You say, pulling your cell phone out. Steve had to admit it looked a little weird to see you with a cellphone in your olden days attire.
“How will you get home?” He asks.
“I’ll probably hoof it.” You shrug. “Or take the subway.”
“At night?!” Steve says, incredulously. “No, I can take you if you’d like.”
You look at him, hopefully. “I don’t want to be a burden.” You say.
“You won’t be one.” He smiles. God, that smile made you feel a little weak.
“Okay.” You smile back.
“Are you hungry by chance?” He asks, as the two of you walk back to his ride. “I was going to eat in the bar but I couldn’t remember the password.” He says, sheepishly.
That makes you laugh out loud. “Those passwords are such bullshit, Dean keeps changing them to keep it ‘exclusive’ but they always end up online anyway.” You say. “Every server has their own password, to keep track of regulars coming in. If you tell them you have a rose delivery for Mae, They’ll take you to my table no questions.”
“Mae?” Steve asks.
“For Mae West.” You explain, That makes Steve laugh again, of course you liked Mae West. “I could eat though. There’s actually a diner right down the road from here.”
“Perfect.” He says, straddling onto his bike. He raises an eyebrow at you when you hesitate. “Something wrong?”
“I’ve never ridden on a bike before is all.”
“As long as you hold on to me, you’ll be fine.” He says, smirking when he sees a flush creep over your face as he hands you his helmet. It was about time for you to be flustered by your interactions.
“I have no problems with that.” You say, placing that helmet on your head after you straddle the bike behind him. Your hands are tight around his waist as the two of you ride out of the lot, leaving Paradise behind.

It is assumed that people stayed over during the winter holiday.

🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀
Riddle Rosehearts
Riddle has never expressed his interest in dating (Y/N) verbally. When they invited him over, he thought they understood his interest in them.
He wears his best outfit and goes to Ramshackle after taking advice from Trey and Cater.
Riddle gets angry when he sees others there, thinking that they were uninvited and uninvited guests are against the rules. He feels awkward when he founds out they were also invited.
🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁
Leona Kingscholar
So the little herbivore is courageous enough to invite him to a date.
He acts casual and wears his regular clothing, not doing anything extra neither for the New Year’s Eve exclusive date nor for (Y/N).
Leona was smug until he saw others who were already at Ramshackle. He thought he was the first choice but even Vil and the lizard are there. He is going to sleep during the party, ignoring everyone.
🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙
Azul Ashengrotto
Azul looked up how humans date so he knew that (Y/N) was asking him on a date. He knew that entering the new year with someone is important for some people.
He wears his best outfit and brings a gift to them as a part of the dating ritual.
Azul is baffled by others first but then this smooth mf fixes himself and acts as if he knew the others would come as well. He heard of mistletoe tradition so he would try to get under it with them.
☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
Kalim Al-Asim
Kalim assumed his feelings were returned by (Y/N) when they invited him to spend time together on New Year’s Eve.
He brings multiple presents for (Y/N) because it is a date and it is December 31.
Kalim doesn’t throw a fit when he sees the others. He makes a comment that they all are on a date together. He knows it isn’t the case but that’s how he won’t get upset over the misunderstanding.
👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑
Vil Schönheit
Vil admired (Y/N)’s courage to ask him on a date, especially on New Year’s Eve. He goes to Ramshackle, intending to stay a little until he is required to be elsewhere.
He doesn't put extra effort because he always looks the best and puts the same effort into himself every day.
Vil is angry and disappointed at (Y/N) for giving him hope and crushing them with all the little nobodies in the room. Though, he acts as if all is good and others believe him thanks to him being an excellent actor. He also thinks of leaving the party early but at the same time, he doesn’t want to leave them alone with the others.
💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
Idia Shroud
Idia hates going outside his room and talking to people face to face. Ortho encouraged him to do this for New Year’s Even since (Y/N) asked him out. According to Ortho’s research, face-to-face dates are the best.
He wears his usual outfit and New Year mask that covers his entire face.
Once Idia sees others, he understands it isn’t a date and feels embarrassed that he thought it was. He will go back to his room immediately and send his tablet to the party to observe (Y/N) with others so there won’t be any more misunderstandings between them.
🐉🐉🐉🐉🐉🐉🐉🐉🐉🐉🐉🐉
Malleus Draconia
Malleus asked Lilia what he should do for (Y/N)’s invite. He is excited to be invited and it is the first time he is invited to an exclusive outing by (Y/N).
Lilia tells him it is a date and what he needs to do.
Malleus is excited to go to Ramshakle but his excitement dies out when he sees others in the room. He thinks it is normal for humans to invite other people to see how they court.

Josslyn
Request: Harry imagine based off the song Josslyn by Olivia O'Brien?
A/N: This was in my inbox for a while, but I finally finished it! It got a little long but I really wanted to set up a backstory. Hope it’s what you wanted! :)
Part 2
————————————————————-
My leg bounces under the table, eyeing everyone walking through the door until my best friend Regan walks in. The first day back to school always felt like hell on earth. It would be more unbearable if my best friend didn’t have the same homeroom as me.
“I want to die,” she drops into the seat in front of mine and turns around. “Like literally. I can’t wait to be done with this dump.”
“We just do it all over again in uni,” My stomach turns remembering what our final year meant. I didn’t even know what I wanted to do with the rest of my life and I had to choose this year. It was a scary thought.
“At least there’ll be more freedom, I won’t be living with my crazy family, and,” she pauses ticking each item on her fingers, and wiggles her eyebrows. “All the hot guys.”
“Is somebody talking about me?”
We turn and Harry Styles, class jock, stands above us with a pencil behind his ear and a shit-eating grin on his face.
“If we were, you would’ve heard ‘major douchebag loser’,” Regan rolls her eyes. I give Regan a look like what an idiot and she ignores him to continue on about her dream school. As hard as I concentrate though, I’m too aware of Harry walking around and settling into the seat behind me.
It had happened, over the summer-we had hooked up. I can’t say it was a shining time for me, I also didn’t reqret it quite as much as one might think.
It was at a party I was invited to while Regan was visiting her grandparents in New Jersey and I was getting lonely. He’d cornered me, made me feel less alone. The hookup lasted a week, before we were off, and then another two weeks in August. I quit him-like a habit-the week before school started.
I confessed to Regan, she’d warned me to avoid him during the year if I wanted to have a decent final year. So I didn’t know if him showing up in the first hour of senior year was a good sign or an omen.
“You girls have a good summer?” Harry asks behind me. Regan locks eyes with me-she would handle it.
“You’re sort of interrupting our conversation here. Maybe you should find a new seat if you wanted to make friends.”
A small laugh escapes me, I couldn’t help it.
“Y/N,” Harry calls me out. “Have you forgotten how to talk or you’re getting shy on me?”
I turn around, he was way too smug. “Regan’s said it perfectly, why do you need me to talk.”
“Just making sure you could,” his eyes flash with humour before he says casually: “I wasn’t sure if you’d worked your mouth too hard this summer that it stopped working or something.”
My jaw drops and I hear Regan gasp.
“Yeah, like that.” Harry points to my open mouth and it takes everything in me not to slap him. But then he does a strange thing, his mocking smile softens into a genuine one. His eyes crinkling like we were on the ins of a joke and the angry flame softens at the curve of his smile.
There was this one weekend where his parents had left town and we’d spent the whole time just binging bad movies, under covers, learning every inch of each other. I never thought it would be a calming feeling waking up and seeing Harry’s sleeping face on the pillow next to me but I had stared at it for what felt like an hour until I’d poked him awake and he’s just pulled me in to sleep longer.
“You’re disgusting,” I tell him now, but it doesn’t have the same rage it would have last year. He’d worn me down, and I know he only liked to wind me up because he thought it was hot. He’d said as much over the summer.
I turn just as our teacher walks in and class begins. Harry gets in trouble for talking to his friends, I ignore the note he throws my way, we’re told it’s the most important year in our life thus far and I almost fall asleep halfway. Just a typical day of high school.
***
It was near the end of the first week, already I had an essay and a project due in two weeks and a thousand pages of math. I was just happy it was Friday and Regan and I were going to do our regular end-of-the-week detox: Starbucks and driving around town.
“Don’t hate me,” Regan says as I approach her car. “But Adam just invited me with his friends to the mall and I know we were supposed to hang out but this is maybe the first time he actually looked me in the eye and talked to me so-“
“It’s okay,” I interrupt her even though I was bummed. “You’ve been trying to get him to notice you all year so...finally! we’ll hang out over the weekend.”
Regan hugs me. “Really? You’re okay? You could come with us. Or I can drop you home first...”
“I can take the bus,” I insist. “We rode the bus last year remember?”
“Ugh, too soon,” Regan shakes her head. “I’ll make it up to you I promise. He’s calling now I’ll see ya!”
I wave her off and begin the slow walk to the bus stop, thinking of things I could do tonight by myself. Someone whistles to my right and I look up. Harry waves his hand, standing by his car. My face flushes as I remember the things that went on in that back seat.
“Where’s a pretty girl like you going all alone?” Harry shouts. I sigh and walk up to him.
“Do you ever realise how predatory you sound?”
“I’m king of the jungle,” he gestures to the school. “Why wouldn’t I sound predatory.”
I cover my face, “Omg please shut up Harry do you even hear yourself? You’re such a-an-ugh!”
“Hey,” his hand peels mine off of my eyes and he holds it in his grip as he walks backwards until his back hits his car, pulling me along. “What’s the matter with you? Didn’t we have fun this summer-why do you act like you hate me?”
His honesty shuts me up. “I-I don’t. I never said I hated you.”
“You sure act like it,” he crosses his arms. “You ignore me in homeroom, roll your eyes every time I say something...”
“We had a fling Harry, we’re not dating each other.” I shrug, trying to tug my hand away from Harry but he holds tight. “There’s nothing more to it. And to be honest...you’ve always been kind of annoying.”
“You’re kind of annoying,” Harry smiles again, tugging my sleeve to bring me closer. I don’t even resist moving into his orbit and settling between his outstretched legs as his arms wrap around my waist.
The truth was being with Harry was nice. He was a cocky jerk who knew he was desirable but when I was with him all the noise in my head died down for a bit and I existed in the present. That’s how he lived: for the now. And even though we were only more than friends and less than together forever, we had something between us. I just had to make sure my heart didn’t get caught up in between it. I’d had too many guys break my heart like I’d told Harry about one day when he’d driven us to a beach and we’d spent most of the day laying in the sun. Something about being there made me open up. He’d said he didn’t want to hurt me like the boys before. So we’d kept things light.
“You have any plans tonight?” Harry asks, his eyes shamelessly on my lips. I feel the familiar flutter in my stomach. Even though Harry would get with any body with boobs, it still felt nice to be looked at like this. By him.
“Not anymore,” I say. “Regan cancelled last minute so-“
“You’re free?” Harry sounds happy. I nod and he lets me go to move to the passenger door. “Get in, where do you want to go?”
“I...” I move to the car and sit inside, I told myself-and Regan-this wouldn’t happen and yet. It was. But Regan did ditch me for Adam so, maybe this was just the alternative. “Regan and I usually just grab drinks and drive around with music on.”
“Can I drive you somewhere?” Harry asks. I smile, of course.
***
Harry ends up taking me to a drive-in theatre. I’d never been to one and the excitement is all over my face. “It’s exactly like the old photos!” I squeal as he leans over and pushes my seat back. He does the same to his. “Have you been here before?”
“My family used to come here when we younger,” Harry smiles. I grin back at him and soon we’re locked in a staring contest because neither of us can look away. I open my mouth to say something but Harry moves forward, cupping my face to pull me to him. All common sense flies out the window as I get lost in his kiss. I tug at his hair the way he likes it and he presses me against the door as he kisses me harder, the handle jabbing my back but I didn’t even care. I’d missed Harry even though it had only been a week. His hands roam lower and lower until they stop as someone knocks on his window.
“Hello!” A muffled voice shouts from his window. We force each other apart. Harry looks at me with a drunken look on his face-eyes half lidded, a lopsided smile...and I’m sure I looked the same. We check who was at his door and it’s the girl bringing us our snacks.
“Harry?” She says as we roll down the window.
“Uh-oh-oh hey, Josslyn right? Long time!”
Harry grabs the drinks from...Josslyn, who looked familiar, and passes them to me to put in the dashboard holder we’d received when we entered. I keep an eye on the interaction as Josslyn goes from professional to flirty in under a second.
“Uh yeah because you never responded to any of my messages over the summer! How have you been? You look so good!”
“Yeah I’m good, I didn’t know you worked here?”
“My parents own the thing,” she glances back. “I have to work here when it gets busy.”
“No way,” Harry’s now fully interested in their conversation with his back to me and I feel a little left out. “I used to come here all the time as a kid did your parents own it back then?”
“Yeah! They took over from my grandparents. We definitely saw each other as kids cuz I was here all the time. Like every summer. I know every single lyric to every single summer hit from 1999 to present.”
“That’s impressive,” Harry laughs. I pick at the m&ms off the popcorn, feeling slightly jealous even though it didn’t make sense to be. Harry and I weren’t exclusive or anything, he wasn’t mine and I wasn’t his.
“Well I gotta go get the next order but we should catch up some time,” Josslyn puts her hand on Harry’s arm. “My number’s the same: if you’ve been ignoring my texts like I think you were then you should have it in your phone. Maybe we can recreate old times.”
With a wink, she’s gone and Harry clears his throat as he goes through his phone. His chuckle when he finds her texts irritates me.
“So like, do you have a lot of girls texting you that you just ignore?”
“What?” Harry looks up like he’d forgotten I was even there. “No, we just have some history. The texts were...funny.”
If I was a crazy girlfriend I would’ve demanded to see those texts but I was neither crazy or his girlfriend so I just look forward, kicking off my shoes and folding my legs into myself. I didn’t want to feel this way but I couldn’t help it.
“You’re not jealous are you?” Harry sneaks closer to me, clearly intrigued that I could be. But I don’t give him the satisfaction.
“Why would I be jealous?”
“Right?” He puts his hand on my knee and it tingles. “She doesn’t mean anything anyway. Just someone from the past.”
“Like me someday,” I don’t know what makes me say it. Maybe I was just moody.
He furrows his brow, leaning back in his seat. “Y/N,” I look over at him but he looks like he’s struggling for words. I raise my eyebrow and he holds out his arm. “Come here.”
“Where?” I ask, looking him over. He sighs and in a single move he’s put one arm under my knees and the other around my back as he tries to lift me while seated.
“Harry stop!” I can’t help but laugh as the stick hits my bum, my knees spill the overflow of popcorn, and we knock heads. “What are you doing!”
Harry laughs and motions to me, “Just c’mere!”
I oblige, twisting my body to straddle him in the front seat. I make sure not to lean back-I’d done that in the past and blared the horn. I’d learned since then.
“What?” I ask, pretending to still be upset but the ridiculous move minutes earlier had already washed it away. He moves my hair behind my ear and holds my face above his.
“You’re lovely,” he says and I melt. He knows it.
“I wasn’t jealous,” I mumble as he peppers my neck with kisses, “I just...” the words already slip away from me.
“Mhm,” he hums.
***
“Thanks,” I say to Harry. We’re parked outside my house and we hesitate to leave each other. The movie was fun, Harry was distracting throughout but that just added to the fun.
“Your parents home?” Harry asks innocently.
“Yes,” I roll my eyes. I check the time, it was nearly 11pm. I’d told them I would be home by 10 but I knew they would be asleep so I had pushed my luck. “Where else would they be?”
Harry shrugs, “My parents are out of town again.”
He scratches at a scab on his hand, hiding his face. After spending time with Harry, I knew his parents weren’t around much what with high profile jobs and travelling all over. His house was huge but empty and it made Harry make a little more sense to me then. Right now though, he just wanted to get me in bed.
“I’d invite you in but if you were caught, my funeral would be Sunday.”
“I’d come in a disguise,” Harry reaches for my hand and threads his fingers through it. “And jump into the grave after you, I’d be as dramatic as possible.”
“Harry you’re mistaken,” I say. “Your funeral would be the exact same day.”
Harry laughs and kisses my hand, “Then we’d just find each other in the afterlife yeah?”
I lean towards him and kiss him tenderly, I try to stop myself but it feels like I’m falling and I remember Regan’s words as I cave and sneak him into my room, hushing him as he bumps into every possible piece of furniture. But I forget it all the second we get under covers only to find him gone the next morning with a text promising me coffee on my front porch.
***
“Kiss any hot guys over the weekend?” Harry whispers in my ear Monday morning. It was a couple weeks since I’d snuck him into my room and we had been seeing each other pretty regularly. Harry sat with Regan and I at lunch sometimes despite her glares, and threw me notes often in class that were just bad drawings. But there were days where he would be distant and I would see him flirting with another girl. I would have to scold myself then, even though I was in his bed half the time we never said where we drew the line. Although I felt what I felt, I couldn’t expect any more from him.
This past weekend, Regan and I had driven to a few universities she was interested in and I could potentially be interested in. We’d crashed at a friend’s dorm before driving back Sunday afternoon. It gave me a small thrill that Harry might have been thinking about me kissing other guys even though he didn’t text me once.
“That depends on what you define as a hot guy,” I tease as I turn around but Harry looks annoyed.
“Oh,” he stares. “So you had fun over the weekend?”
His annoyance rubs me the wrong way, he could flirt with people and do whatever he wanted but he was annoyed at a joke? “Lots, not that you would know since you went awol yourself.”
Harry raises a brow but I just shrug and turn to the front. He was probably hanging out with other girls, not that I should care. But when it’s confirmed when Regan shows me the instagram story of someone she follows, I click through and find he was indeed. The picture shows him, a girl from our basketball team, and Josslyn on the beach getting high. My stomach churns for the rest of the day but I don’t dare bring it up. I just tell him we needed a break, maybe the distance would stop the obsession.
***
Harry was throwing one of his parties on Friday. With his parents gone most of the time it was the perfect place to host our class. This morning when he told Regan and I to swing by, I’d lingered behind and we’d made up. I was still nervous about the party, even though Harry and I were on again.
At the party, I hang out with Regan, Adam, and his friends for a bit. I talk to a few other friends and see some unfamiliar face. Harry catches up to me halfway through and apologises.
“I got caught up with everyone,” he says, his words softened with alcohol. I had seen glimpses of him with his friends, seen him flirt with a few girls when he came in but he ended up with me here so I don’t hold onto it.
“That’s okay,” I place my hand without a drink on his chest, feeling the steady heartbeat underneath. “You’re here now.”
He wraps his arms around me, “You’re staying the night right?” He whispers in my ear. It tickles and I giggle.
“As long as you don’t get too drunk.”
“So you won’t help me out if I get too drunk?” He pouts.
I laugh, about to say something but someone comes up to us in our private moment. Josslyn.
“Harry! Thanks for the invite!” Josslyn puts her arms out so Harry lets go of me to give her a hug. I try to wash away the possessive paranoia with my beer but I feel it creeping up. Josslyn glances over at me and I give her a smile.
“Hey,” I say awkwardly.
“Hi! You’re from the drive-in right?”
I was surprised she remembered me considering she didn’t even look at me that day. “Yeah, the same one.”
“Ooh,” she glances between us. “So are you two like dating or something?”
“Uhm...” Harry and I awkwardly look at one another as we try to find the right words. “Not really-“ I start to say as Harry says, “We just hang out...”
“That makes sense,” she flashes her eyes at Harry and I feel more insecure than ever. It reminds me that they did hang out together on the beach, maybe more often than I knew. Harry looks unbothered though. “So I can steal Harry away for a bit? You don’t mind? It’s been a while since we caught up!”
“I don’t own him,” I fake laugh even though I want to shout leave us alone liar!
I watch them leave, a sinking feeling in my stomach as Harry only glances my way before leaving. I stumble from group to group after that, finally locating Regan in a game of beer pong. I cheer her on and almost convince myself I was having fun but I continue to scan the room for Harry. My phone finally buzzes later in the night, Harry was upstairs asking me to come up.
“Harry?” I ask quietly as I knock on his door and peer around the corner. He’s laying on his floor shirtless and his room needs airing out. I sigh and open his window. “Where did you get the weed?”
“What? I didn’t do anything,” Harry says from the floor. “Where were you?”
“I was downstairs, at your party. You disappeared with Josslyn.” I can’t hide the edge in my voice.
“She shared her stash,” Harry says, his voice a low rumble. “We just talked about life.”
“Right, is this all she does?” It seemed Harry and her only ever got high together. “Did you want anything? I was watching Regan win and I’d like to go back if I’m here for no reason.”
“No wait,” he gets up slowly and walks to me, trying to kiss me but I pull away.
“I’m not interested right now Harry,” I push his arms off me. All I knew was he left with Josslyn and ended shirtless on his floor, high and alone. Who knows what they did.
“I was alone this whole time,” Harry tries to convince me. “She left a long time ago.”
“She left that too?” I point to a tanktop draped on his bed.
“That’s....that’s yours?” Harry says.
“Oh right, I forgot what my own fucking clothes look like.”
I stomp to the door but he calls out, “You’re making it a big deal! Nothing happened!”
I didn’t trust that. Not when he lied to my face like that.
***
At school on Monday, Harry tries to talk to me but I ignore him all morning. He forces me into an empty classroom and tries to win me over but I push him away as a teacher walks in and tells us to leave.
“Y/N,” Harry whines. “It’s not a big deal come on! She’s just an old friend!”
“Did you date her?” I demand, finally stopping by my locker.
“No I-we didn’t date. She’s just an old friend.”
“You keep mentioning,” I roll my eyes.
“Because it’s true, babe.” Harry touches my arm. “Listen. Nothing happened.” When I don’t respond he takes it as in invitation to ask if I wanted to do homework at his place after school. I tell him I’d see.
I end up going. We don’t do a lot of homework.
***
A couple weeks go by without a snag, I finally settle into a rythm for senior year and join the basketball team with Regan for our final year. I go over the endless decisions of what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, and on weekends, I would hang out with Harry at his place.
It’s our first game of the season and Regan and I are doing our warmups as we watch the bleachers fill with friends and our rival school.
“Will Harry be here?” Regan asks, although she still didn’t like him she had accepted she would see him from time to time.
“I thought he would. Maybe I should call him.”
I leave the loud gym and duck into the locker room. There’s only two other people, so I shuffle to the side and call Harry.
“Y/N,” he picks up on the fourth ring, he sounds out of breath. “What’s up?”
“Harry,” I say cautiously. “Where are you? I thought you were coming to our first game?”
“Oh shit uh yeah,” he sounds panicked. “I uh can’t-really uhm-.”
I hear a laugh and muffled noise, like Harry had dragged his microphone against his shirt. “Babe I can’t see you right now okay? I’ll swing by at halftime.”
“Oh okay...” before I can say anything he’d hung up. That was weird, unless I was overthinking it. But I remember the muffled noises in the back-he was with someone else.
I slowly put my phone back in my bag and look up, the one girl from my team, I think her name was Valentina. She stays near her locker but she’s obviously listening to my conversation. I don’t think much of it, and head out to find Regan. Screw Harry, we had a game to win.
I take my position as forward and Regan and I exchange fierce looks before smiling. I look around at our rival team, recognising a few from last year. And that’s when I realise why Josslyn looked familiar to me. She stands exactly diagonally from me, already looking at me-I remember her from semi-finals last year.
She narrows her eyes and I do a double take, maybe she was just being friendly competitive. But as the first quarter progresses, she gets aggressive, coming over to my side even when she should be on hers, and making sure to check me as she runs past. I glance at the referree but she doesn’t notice a thing. What was going on?
I ask Regan before the second quarter begins but she hadn’t noticed. She tells me she’d keep an eye out and once the whistle blows for halftime she runs up to me.
“She has it in for you, what did you do to her?” Regan whispers.
“Nothing!” I shout-whisper. “She’s an ‘old friend’ of Harry’s but I don’t know what I did to her...she hates me!”
“She wants to kill you Y/N, I have never-“
“Hey Y/N,” Regan’s interrupted by Harry who finally shows up. I continue drinking my water as he stands there uncomfortably. “Uh, I’m sorry I’m late?”
“Missing the first half isn’t late,” Regan pipes in for me. “It’s missing half the game.”
“Well...sorry for missing half the game,” Harry says but it doesn’t actually sound like he’s sorry. Just on the edge of annoyance. “Could I talk to you alone Y/N?”
I glance at Regan and let her know I was okay. She makes a show of being annoyed and goes to find Adam.
“What do you want?” I ask.
“To say I’m sorry,” Harry says again.
“About?” I raise my eyebrow. There was something he wasn’t telling me, everything about today was off from our phone call to the way Josslyn was attacking me on the court. Speaking of, I glance around and notice her staring at us.
“You know,” Harry doesn’t meet my eye. “Missing your first game and stuff.”
“Okay,” I watch the timer count down our halftime and I needed a water refill. “I’ll catch up with you later. Your ‘old friend’ Josslyn is here if you want to hang out with her!”
Harry stares at me like he’s trying to figure me out, my sarcasm lost on him. I raise my eyebrow which makes him stop. He kisses my cheek and walks to the bleachers. Weird.
***
When we switch sides, Josslyn must’ve negotiated with someone because she stands opposite me.
“Bring it on 15,” Josslyn calls me by my number as we wait for the whistle. She didn’t even know my name.
“Likewise,” I crouch down. “We don’t lose on home turf.”
“Too bad you already lost on home turf,” she says just as the whistle blows and she’s off. My head spins as I try to figure out what she meant and I end up missing a pass. My teammates shoot me a look and I try to focus. But Josslyn continues to taunt me and try to mess with me. By the end of it, we win by three and I gloat as much as I want to.
Until Valentina corners me in the changeroom.
“Hey, Y/N. I know we don’t talk much but can we talk? Girl-to-girl?”
I walk towards the windows and she follows. “What’s up Val?”
“I...don’t know how to say this. I’ve been friends with Harry for a while and Josslyn too...” As soon as I hear the name I realise it was her instagram Regan had shown me. And that’s why she was eavesdropping on the conversation. Her and Josslyn were friends. “...a couple times but you should know she doesn’t care he’s with you. I tried to tell her he had a girlfriend but she said he didn’t? I think they...hang out if you know what I mean.”
My ears ring as I stare at Val, what she’s trying to tell me. I couldn’t believe it, I’d been so stupid. Of course that’s what was going on.
“Thanks,” I say abruptly and turn around to grab my stuff from my locker. Letting Regan know I’d meet her at her car. My mind was heaving as everthing clicked into place. Harry’s party, Val’s stories that weekend I was away, how he had lied to my face...the other voice on the line when he said he couldn’t come to the first half. It was Josslyn. He was with Josslyn.
I’m still in my shorts, only having changed my shirt. But I storm out and find Harry at his car where he said he would be.
“Hey Y/N, where are we celebrat-“
“Josslyn,” I say and Harry shuts up. “You and Josslyn? Really? It’s one thing to do it and another thing to fucking lie to me for weeks!”
“Okay wait, can we talk somewhere-“
“No!” I shove Harry in his chest and he stumbles into his car. “I-I’m such an idiot! Everyone told me this would happen and I thought okay, he’s a player and a flirt but at least he doesn’t lie! But you lie like the truth is a chore, you’re scum just like everyone said you were!”
“Wait!” Harry shouts as I leave. “You can’t be this angry with me, it didn’t mean anything! And we aren’t even together Y/N!”
“You’re really playing that card?” I spin around. “We never drew the line but read the fucking signs Styles, I thought we made it clear how we felt. You didn’t even care at all did you?”
I ignore what he says and head back, towards Regan’s car to wait for her. People in the lot stare but I don’t care. And to make it worse, I walk past a group of the other team on my way to Regan’s car and Josslyn is one of them. She smirks and I want to strangle her.
“I told you you’d already lost,” she says as I shoot her a dirty look.
“It’s not called losing when he was never worth having,” I stick up my middle finger and use my rage to propel me the rest of the way without breaking down. As soon as I sit in Regan’s car, I break down. She doesn’t say anything, just turns up the music and we go for a drive.
***
Harry tries to speak to me. Through text or calls, he tries to pass me notes and tap my shoulder but Regan offers to switch seats and I accept it. I was torn between feeling absolutely nothing and wanting to cry into a tub of ice cream. Mostly I was angry, at Harry but also myself.
After practice on Thursday, I walk towards the bus stop with my gym bag bouncing off my knees. Regan couldn’t make practice so I didn’t have a ride, but I didn’t mind-I could use the time to clear my head....Until the very person I was trying to clear away falls into step with me. Harry.
“Y/N can we talk? You’re avoiding me and I feel really bad about what happened I just want to talk.”
“Nothing to talk about,” I pick up my pace.
“I’m sorry okay? I fucked up but we were never an item Y/N! We never said what we were. It didn’t mean anything with Joss.”
He hits the nail on the head, the same thing I was angry at myself about. I try to continue my steely silence but I couldn’t, not with the way he says her name.
“I know that Harry, we never said where we drew the line, but I’m sure you read the signs. You knew what we had was different. But I guess you had to go and ruin it just so you could get a quick fuck and I’m sure you had fun doing it too so I’ll leave you to her. I don’t care anymore.”
“Y/N wait don’t say that! Don’t give up on us! It-it wasn’t like that! I didn’t know...wait!” Harry falls behind as I continue speed walking but he catches up at the bus shelter. There’s no one else waiting so it’s hard to ignore him.
“Y/N, it just happened. I didn’t mean to hurt you, it just happened.”
I snort, not amused in the least. “You were hanging out with her whenever we were off, maybe when we were on too. It was bound to happen,” I turn and watch for the bus so I didn’t have to look at his face, “those things don’t just happen. They don’t.”
“Okay listen, we can take a break. If you want space I can give that to you. I hate fighting, Y/N you mean something to me. I don’t know what I was thinking, but I’m thinking now just please. I never said it before but you mean a lot to me, you’re different Y/N...I’m different around you and I-well I-“
“Harry,” I force him to stop. I didn’t want him to say the words out of desperation. Not like this. Not from him. I see the bus off in the distance, finally. “Harry you act like you’re the victim but you hurt me, you lied to me like telling the truth was a chore to you. You’re right though. I was never yours. I don’t want to fight...I just never wanna talk again.”
Harry opens his mouth to say something just as the bus pulls up. I turn to face him once more.
“Don’t call me, what we had...whatever is was, is over.” I turn as the doors open but not before saying: “I hope that it was worth it, fucking Josslyn.”
His mouth opens in disbelief, the same mouth I used to dream about when it wasn’t kissing me, and be consumed by when it was. The person I knew would ruin me but I thought might turn out different. The guy I toed a line with but will never cross. Especially not anymore.
I flash my card to the bus driver and hoist my bag onto my shoulder as I shuffle further into the bus. My legs ache from practice and my stomach rumbles as I sit. This was senior year, it’d been fun but this was my future. Harry wasn’t the kind of guy who was ever going to be in my future.
As the bus groans and moves forward, I look out the window. Harry sits at the bus stop with his head in his hands, maybe this was a turning point for him. Maybe he was going to change. Maybe he wasn’t. But I couldn’t stick around to find out. I decided I was going to move on, and leave him in the dust with his Josslyn.

uncertainty--q.b./reader
Much like the several requests that have been sitting in my inbox, this is a long overdue post. @that-aint-it-chief, you asked and you shall receive (four months later).
This request is based off of sentence starters from strawberryjenos. I tried linking the post, but Tumblr hates me :-)
For those of you who don’t know, I am also posting for my QB/Reader story, “Heaven don’t have a name”.
I kind of liked how angsty this one was ;)
@lokismortallove @charmed-asylum
Enjoy!
You paced nervously around the hotel room that Guterman procured for you.
You felt an abundance of uncomfortable things as you awaited Quentin’s arrival; you were annoyed, frustrated, scared, and anxious.
You were annoyed that the plan hadn’t gone accordingly; hours upon hours of work, and you all had been bested by a teenager who was on vacation, of all bloody things.
You were frustrated that you hadn’t been told the state of Quentin. He was alive, according to Guterman, but what else? Part of you told yourself to be grateful he was even alive, but what state was he in? What kind of tending would you need to do? Was he in one piece? Was he in a coma?
Your mind began reeling as you thought of the worst possibilities.
You were scared for the repercussions. Parker surely knew everything, and if he had his hands on EDITH? Chances were you could say goodbye to freedom. You, Quentin, and everyone you had grown to consider a twisted sort of family would all be implicated.
So much for putting an end to Tony Stark’s legacy.
You were anxious that you didn’t have any of the answers you were looking for. You weren’t sure what was worse: not knowing, or knowing that it wasn’t in your favor at all.
You gritted your teeth at the thought of it going sideways. Well, more sideways than it already was.
Your breathing hitched, and you couldn’t bring yourself to calm down for several moments. Your pacing increased in speed, and you repeated a few helpful mantras to calm yourself down.
Finally, you were able to regulate your breathing.
Damn Peter Parker, damn Tony Stark, damn Quentin, and damn this whole operation! You could have kept your job in the medical field, but no. Quentin, and everyone your old boss had wronged, had sought you out to help get justice from him.
The knock on the door pulled you out of your thoughts, and you arrived before it in mere strides.
“Who is it?” you remembered to ask, and impatiently awaited the reply given to you ahead of time.
“I have the materials for the Sazerac,” was heard from the other side of the door.
You threw it open without looking into the peephole and gasped.
Guterman was holding a positively beat up Quentin. If you were a passerby, you might assume that Quentin merely had a rough run in with someone, nothing special. You, however, knew that something must have happened for him to be nearly out while on his feet.
“Say nothing,” Guterman warned you as he propped the bag in his hand at the nearby closet.
You acquiesced, but only unwillingly. You knew with everything that had happened, it was only a matter of time before Parker and Fury met up. What he’d say, you imagined, couldn’t be good.
Discretion was mandatory.
You quietly shut the door behind you and spun around to see that Quentin had been ushered to one of the beds.
“What the hell am I dealing with here, Guterman?” you asked impatiently. The man instead gave you several slips of paper.
“You are to bring him back on his feet. You’ll meet us tomorrow at 11 where it says. You have the items necessary to fix him in this bag,” he said, gesturing to the nondescript black bag he was now bringing up.
You nodded stiffly, and your eyes trained upon your partner; his breathing was somewhat uneven. You wondered how much internal damage had been done, and by what.
Parker only had spiderwebs. He wasn’t bold enough to use the kill mode Stark left him, was he?
Guterman put his hand on your shoulder in a fatherly way and spoke quietly.
“I think he’ll be fine. Riva’s fixing everything right now. We’ll figure out step 2 when we get there, okay?”
You nodded again, still just as stiff. You felt discouraged looking at Quentin, and moved to go examine him.
Guterman nodded at you, before swiftly making his exit.
As you looked at Quentin, you cursed the universe for putting you in this position.
You sat on the edge of the bed, and examined him; he was wearing civilian clothing you could only imagine that he’d put on hap-hazardly while leaving the Tower of London.
You had started to pull the long sleeved shirt up, when a weak hand caught yours. You looked down and saw a boyish smile creep upon your partners face, before it contorted into a grimace.
You pulled your gaze down to look upon the mark on the SFX suit he wore underneath of his street clothes.
“Oh my god, is that blood?” you asked as your gaze focused. You shouldn’t have been surprised; there was a reason he couldn’t walk by himself.
“...No,” Quentin tried saying sardonically, before groaning when you ran your fingers over the bullet wound in his abdomen.
As you pulled his shirt up, you saw yet another bullet wound, this time just slightly higher than the first one.
“Are you okay? Are you hurt?”
“You mean other than the two bullet wounds?”
You gritted your teeth as he groaned again.
You did your best to ignore him, and you successfully managed to pull the long sleeve shirt over his head, leaving only the thin material of the special effects suit.
You bit your lip, before your eyes strayed to where the bag lay.
Guterman had said that everything you needed was in that bag.
You prayed to whatever deity was up there that he’d at least had the decency to get his hands on some Oxy.
“Have the painkillers kicked in yet?” you said. You hadn’t said another word to Quentin since you began; whether it was from frustration at him or the situation, you weren’t sure. You opted to brew in your own emotions, lest you take it out on Quentin while he was injured. Part of you wanted to slap him upside the head, but what good would that do?
The man seemed surprised by your voice. When he spoke, he sounded uncomfortable.
“‘m fine,” he mumbled. He was seated with his back facing you as you pulled the patch down gently to see if the bleeding had stopped. To your relief, it had.
“You were smart to put pressure on it, and cover it up,” you said as you examined it further. “You’d be on your way to the hospital with a collapsed lung right about now if you hadn’t.”
“I learned from the best,” he attempted, before making a noise of discomfort.
You didn’t acknowledge his statement, and instead remarked, “Christ, it’s a miracle you’re still alive.”
Your tone was curt. You weren’t sure if you should be angry, upset, or heartbroken. The disappointment in your voice was evident enough, but you weren’t sure anything else was.
Your words had been terse, but you couldn’t bring yourself to be entirely consumed with anger at that moment. You were just grateful that he made it out in one piece.
You were thrilled that you weren’t transporting a corpse at that moment.
You felt your gaze fall on the bullets that you’d pulled from his body, and you couldn’t pull away from them.
Quentin must have noticed, and he made another attempt to speak.
“You okay?” he asked.
Your gaze remained on the bullets for a few more moments, before you focused on bandaging him up.
“I’m gonna apply some petroleum jelly until we can get you real help. It’s gonna be cold for a bit,” you said, and you watched him nod stiffly.
As you applied the jelly to his wound, you wondered if this would be the last time you did this.
Of course it would be, you thought. Parker had told at least his three friends, Stark’s old pal Happy, and you were positive that Fury and Hill would have figured it out. That was all that mattered. Everything that you all had worked for had fizzled just like that, and for what? Quentin to be shot? You were aware of your grinding teeth, but not the sound you released.
“What?” Quentin asked, sounding slightly annoyed. You pulled back your hand.
“Excuse me?” you replied, sounding just as annoyed. There was a beat before you began to apply the final bit of jelly to his abdomen. Quentin slouched slightly into your touch when he spoke next.
“You always breathe like that when you’re annoyed. That’s the sound you make before you lecture someone.”
You pursed your lips.
“Well, I think there’s plenty to be annoyed about,” you replied as you began wiping the petroleum jelly from your fingers. “The destruction of our climate, for one.”
You heard Quentin sigh in defeat, and watched as his shoulders slumped further.
“Hon, please—“ he began, but you interrupted him curtly.
“I don’t wanna hear it,” you said as you pulled out the bandages and tape. “I don’t...I just...don’t,” you emphasized by tearing open the packaging.
Part of you wanted to hear what he had to say, but the stronger part, the heartbroken part of you just couldn’t.
What if that had really been it? And he wouldn’t have had anyone when it happened.
The thought made you pause, and you had to restrain yourself from throwing the bandages at the wall.
Just hours ago, you were preparing for another victory speech and maybe even dinner with the Queen.
God, what a mess this had all turned into.
You began applying the gauze to his wounds, and pulled back gently every time he grunted or flinched. You were grateful that they weren’t large wounds, at least.
There was another silence as you taped him up slightly, and you almost didn’t say anything as you pulled away to put everything away.
You felt the edge of the bed raise as he stood up to go find his discarded shirt from the other side of the room.
You paused then, and rested your head in your hands as you tried to gather what it was you wanted to say.
Quentin seemed to pick up on this, and turned to face you from his spot on the other side of the bed. You looked up at him and saw imploring blue eyes looking back at you. So much was going on in the typhoon of his gaze, that it took you a moment to read him properly.
You moved so your chin was in your hand as you spoke.
“I agreed to all of this because you were going to be a symbol,” you started slowly. “I agreed to...all of this, because you were going to bring people hope. Something that I think we’ve all needed after the last...six years.”
He was silent as he regarded you, and part of you thought he looked...ashamed.
It was your turn to huff slightly, before pushing a hand through your hair as you gathered your angry thoughts.
“I agreed to go along with this because people needed a hero to believe in. They needed someone who wouldn’t break their team apart because of a few unsigned papers. They needed a person who would carry the torch that the Avengers left in the world.
“I agreed to...the collapsing buildings, and the casualties, and...all of the craziness, because people needed someone other than a disillusioned sixteen year old to idolize. And you kind of accomplished that,” you added as an afterthought.
His brow was furrowed as he considered your words, and you could see he was a little lost.
“I didn’t agree to go along with it if there was a risk that your life would be in danger,” you said finally, before turning away to put the medical box back together.
“I’m sorry,” he said hoarsely after a moment.
You looked up at him, tears stinging your eyes.
“This was all just supposed to be projections and interviews with Time magazine. God, you would be shaking hands with the Queen right now!” you exclaimed, throwing your hands in the air.
“I didn’t...I didn’t think I’d get shot in the process,” he admitted. “I didn’t think I’d end up scaring you.”
A silence fell between the two of you, and you didn’t know what to say. What else could you say? Nothing you could say would change anything that had transpired.
“There was always a risk,” Quentin said softly. Your head shot up from its spot in your hands, and your gaze narrowed dangerously.
“Was there?” you countered irritably.
He didn’t respond. Did he realize how angry you were?
“The only people who posed a threat are all off with their own lives!” you continued to argue. “Parker was the only one we had to worry about!”
“I didn’t think he’d be...as capable as he was,” Quentin said quietly.
You continued as if you hadn’t heard him.
“And at what cost was all of this? All of the rehearsing, and espionage, and planning. You almost ended up dead!”
You rubbed your forehead as you took a breath. Yelling wouldn’t accomplish anything, you thought to yourself. The frustrated part of you argued that it would make you feel better.
While you were lost in thought, you felt a hand grasp yours.
You didn’t look up at Quentin at first, opting to instead fix your gaze back on the bullets that lay on the desk.
You hated the failure and pain that they symbolized.
Finally, you looked back up at Quentin and saw his imploring gaze.
“It’s not over,” he said after a few moments of silence.
You were taken aback.
“What? Of course it’s over if you’re going to go out there and get your ass handed to you—” you started, but Quentin squeezed your hand and shook his head.
“No, you’re not listening to me,” he said.
You fell silent and watched as he pulled away to sit next to you. His hands were in his lap and his gaze was fixed on you as he spoke.
“I...I had a back up plan,” he said. He pushed a hand through his hair, and you felt your eyebrows furrow at his comment.
“Back up plan?” you asked slowly.
“Yeah, a...a plan B, in case something happened,” he continued.
When he didn’t elaborate, you spoke up.
“What do you mean? What aren’t you telling me?” you sounded desperate. In a way, you were. What did Quentin have in their favor? What did he have that would fix all of this?
“It was just between Riva and I. I didn’t want you to worry if there wasn’t a reason to…” he trailed off. He didn’t voice the giant mishap that they were currently embroiled in, and you didn’t either. You figured he was well aware.
“Look,” he started, his pace picking up as he spoke. “When Parker was was taking out the Elementals, I got a bit of footage from my body camera, and then I got some more when he came to take back EDITH.”
“He took EDITH?” You asked then, confused. “How did he do that without permission from you?”
“He didn’t ask permission,” Quentin said, drawing out the words for emphasis.
Dramatic man.
“EDITH isn’t Parker’s. It still belongs to you,” you finished.
Quentin nodded and continued.
“Riva’s gonna work some of his magic and send some footage to some of the bigger news networks.”
You frowned.
“What footage?” you asked, unsure of where he was going with his plan.
“Footage that will make Mysterio a hero again. Footage that will make Spider-Man the real villain.”
You were quiet as you considered what he had said. Could it all really be fixed that easily?
“What about Fury? And all of his connections—” you started, but you were cut off by Quentin.
“It doesn’t matter what the government thinks,” he said, grabbing your hands excitedly. “Because in less than seventy-two hours, Peter Parker is going to be a fugitive. He’ll be a terrorist, and that’s a problem the remaining Avengers won’t be able to solve. Not without destroying themselves again.”
You were quiet as you fell into your thoughts. Was this really the end of their problems? You thought of Peter Parker.
He was just a kid.
A kid with future plans and goals.
A kid who foiled your plan, but a kid no less. You bit the inside of your cheek as you thought about how this would change his life.
Your eyes met Quentin’s again and the hope you saw in them was enough to quiet your worries.
For now, at least.
You leaned into his touch, and wondered how this would change things.
You didn’t know how much, but you were certain that things would change.

“Built”Dva/Brigitte
Hana Song lay slumped across the hoodof her mech, defeated.  What was it that had finally felled thisintrepid hero, so much beloved by the South Korean people and theworld of online gaming?  A hoard of omnics, overwhelming in numbers? A final battle, glorious in its ultimate failure?  A moment ofreckless bravery that for once she wasn’t clever and lucky enough tosurvive?
That, at least, might have been moredignified.
Currently, Hana Song was laid low bya technical difficulties.
She had only been with Overwatch afew months so far, and it was both everything she could have dreamedand nothing she had expected.  They were doing so much work. Hana valued what she contributed to the front lines of the Crisis,of course, she was here first and foremost to defend her people, but… sometimes when you were getting up every morning and beingdeployed again and again before a persistent press of omnics, youbegan to feel like you weren’t making any headway.  A constant grindwith no objective in sight.  Overwatch was different.  Overwatchwasn’t just playing the game, it was rewriting the rules.  It wasexciting.  It wasfull-tilt, life-or-death, world-hanging-in-the-balance sort of work, and Hana was thriving.
Hermech, unfortunately, was not.
Because this wasn’t Overwatch of thegolden days, this wasn’t like the heroes her dad had told her storiesof as a girl.  They had no funds, no support, no legitimacy.  Winston(an actual, talking gorilla, how cool!)was sending out hooks all over the world and they were getting bites– people were slowly, covertly, trickling in, but it meant that thegreat workshops of the Gibraltar Watchpoint were almost entirelyempty.  One corner, near the massive bay doors, now housed her andher mech.  Over these months, she had been alone in her efforts torepair the damages as they appeared; she fixed what she could andignored the rest.  But now that one of the mech’s arms had gone dead(in the middle of a fight too, with everyone watching!  Uh, she musthave looked like such an amateur) she couldn’t really look the otherway anymore.  Something needed to be done, and she couldn’t figureout what it was.
In anothersection of the room, Lucio had a table that was covered in wires andtubes – for maintaining his skates and amp.  He smugly told her allabout how he’d pilfered and repurposed the tech from some companycalled Vishkar, and he at least seemed to know what he was doing. More so than her at any rate, though even he had been rather helplesswhen she’d brought her mech problems to him.
Then there wasthat weaselly guy, Junkrat.  Hana wasn’t sure how she felt about him. He could be pretty funny, but she also couldn’t shake the feelingthat if push came to shove he wouldn’t hesitate to render her asmoldering crater.  He was given a space the furthest away fromeveryone else and very explicit orders from Winston about conduct. Because Junkrat?  He worked with explosives.  Hana didn’t know muchabout explosives beyond the “stick in mech, fire at omnic” sideof things, but she couldn’t help but feel that someone so… twitchyshouldn’t be messing with them.  She knew for a fact that he wassomeone who shouldn’t be messing with her mech.
And then therewas that short, grouchy guy, Torbjörn.  His portion of the workshopwith filled with a massive forge and huge work tables – he was theonly one who really seemed to know what he was doing in here, theonly one not self-taught or learning on the fly.  He had a tendencyto mutter when he caught anyone else trying to work in the shop, asif they were all just little kids trying to play with lego in hisworkspace.  Rude.
Though, Hanathought, rather moodily as she kicked her feet accusingly against thehull of her mech, she did feel a bit like that right now, like a kidpretending to know what she was doing.  She was a soldier though, nota mechanic!
The fact of thematter was simple and unavoidable: the mechs weren’t made for thesort of sustained abuse.  Normally, with MEKA, they hadmicro-rotations.  They’d be deployed, hit hard, and as soon as thebattle was finished or relief was deployed, the previous pilotsreturned so that the mechs could be serviced, strengthened, andreadied for the next deployment.  After a certain number ofrotations, the entire mech would be replaced with a new one.  Themechs were made to take damage, but they were still complicated, delicate machines and for that sort of tank role to be maintained, the mech must be as well.
Sowhat options did that leave her?  She was, technically,on loan to Overwatch.  Sort of.  It was very hush hush, under thetable.  Overwatch wasn’t supposed to be operating at all, but someonein the South Korean government (or military, or something) must havedecided that if the omnic-crushing force of old was looking toreassert itself, it would help to have Overwatch as friends.  Hanawas very aware this was conditional though.  If it looked like thingswere going to go bad with Overwatch, or if it became too complicatedor too inconvenient, all association would be denied and she wouldget pulled… and that had quickly become an unacceptable outcome. She needed to be here. So she really didn’t want to ruffle feathers with HQ by requestingher mech be taken halfway across the world for servicing.  So thatleft figuring it out herself, or capitulating and asking Torbjörn. He got a funny look in his eye when he stared at her mech though, andso far she had avoided letting him feel it up.
It might be acase of the lesser of two evils though, she had to admit.
She was savedfrom needing to confront this sad reality by the sound of theworkshop doors sliding open.  Without looking up, she called out“That you, Lucio?  Please tell me you had an epiphany because Idon’t know what to do.”
“Uh, sorry todisappoint, but I’m not Lucio,” said a clearly strained voice, itsaccent one that sounded familiar but which Hana couldn’t quite place. Given that this was a secretive paramilitary base on a mountain thata bare handful of people had access to, this was alarming.
It was with thisshock that Hana jerked up and swung herself around, peering down fromher mech to stare at this strange newcomer.  It didn’t actually tellher much, because the person was almost completely hidden behind atowering stack of strangely shaped hunks of metal.
“Who are you?”demanded Hana, before she could think better of it.
“Brigitte,”said the person as she staggered across the room.  “BrigitteLindholm.”  It was strange, there was something asalmost-but-not-quite familiar about her name as about her accent.
Brigitte wasstill talking though, “Is Reinhardt in here?”
“Who?”
“Ofcourse he isn’t,” she grumbled.  “He saidhe’d bring the rest of the armour in here so I could get set up andstart repairs but no,of course not.  Uh, knowing him he’s found some old friend.  I washoping to avoid that until we got set up, or else I’m never going topry him away.  You have no idea how much that man can talk.”
Hana slipped downfrom the hull of her mech and landed heavily on the ground.  “Who’sReinhardt?  Are you new members?  Do you need any help with that?”
Brigitteseemed to take the barrage of questions in stride.  “Massivebonehead,” she said.  “Also just massive, trust me, you can’tmiss him.  And, uh, yeah, kind of new memebers, I guess?  Lena justdropped us off like twenty minutes ago.  I mean, technicallyReinhardt used to be a member before and he’s coming back – again, because he’s a bonehead – andso I guess I’m here too.  Dad’s going to throw a fitbut I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.  And oh god, yesplease.”
Hanawas already reaching for whatever was in this new woman’s arms and sodidn’t register the following warning: “Be careful, this stuff ispretty heavy–” until she’d tried to heft one of the pieces, wascompletely thrown off by exactly howheavy it was, and promptly dropped it on her toe.
It was a goodthing she was the only one who spoke Korean on the base; her tonguehadn’t exactly been squeaky clean as a professional gamer but joiningthe army had not helped matters and there was nothing like anunspeakably number of kilograms of metal falling on your foot toencourage one to show off that sort of vocabulary.
“Sorry,” saidBrigitte, “let me just…”
With a deafeningclattering, the rest of the woman’s load was dumped onto the nearestwork table, and Hana got her first real look at Brigitte Lindholm. She promptly forgot about the pain in her foot.
Ittook her a moment to remember to close her mouth because wow…which had pretty much been the first thought in her head.
Thesecond thought had been: arms. Because Brigitte definitely had those.  Two of them.  Two very, very, very musclyarms. Yes sir.
Hana doublechecked to make sure her mouth was closed.
Brigitte was alsogetting her first look at the room.
“Wow,I’ve heard stories of this place but it’s really nothing likeactually being in here, you know?  Seriously, there is so muchroom… nothing likethe Ironclad Guild, but considering I’ve been working out of a truckfor the past few years this is like – whoa!  Whoseis that?”
At first Hanaassumed she must have caught sight of Lucio’s gently thrumming amp, which was partially disemboweled and casting beats of yellow andgreen light across the ceiling, or the terrifying toxic waste dumpthat was Junkrat’s corner, so she felt herself swelling with pridewhen she realized Brigitte’s gaze was hard-locked on her mech.
“Mine,” shesaid, as if it was no big deal, what girl doesn’t have a spare, million dollar, top-of-the-line battle mech sitting around.  “I’mHana.  Hana Song?  Top pilot in MEKA?”
“Ohmy god, I’ve never seen one up close before,” said Brigitte, alittle breathlessly.  “These are amazing. Like a mix between power armour and proper battle ship – you’vegot the protective hull of an armoured assault vehicle, but way moremobile than anything imaginable in that class… it’s even got theCrusader beat on that front.  It’s almost as versatile as powerarmour, but it’s not going to crumple like paper towel if it getscaught in a firefight.  These are brilliant. And adapting them to be piloted by people – MEKA is seriouslyworking on a different level with these.”  She rounded on Hana, hereyes gleaming with fascination and admiration; Hana beamed rightback.  “And you actually pilot it?  It must be unbelievablydifficult… it was originally designed to be run as a drone afterall, the sheer number of functions for one human to keep on topof…”
Hanashrugged with as much modesty as she could muster.  “I was thenumber one StarCraft player for three years in a row.  That’s whythey went for gamers, you know?  Better response times, multitasking,on the fly strategizing, working in teams and solo…  It was apretty natural transition, when you’ve got a knack for it,” shesaid, leaning against one of the mech’s pink legs.  This would lookmuch more impressive if she was actually wearing her flightsuitrather than the grease-covered work jeans and a baggy old sweatshirtthat used to be her father’s, with a faded picture of a droolingmurloc printed on it.
Thenagain, Brigitte was wearing what looked like steel-toed boots and ashirt with the sleeves (gloriously, gloriously)torn off so maybe Hana could pass this off as an aesthetic and notjust grubby laziness.  She wouldn’t know unless she tried, right?  Sowith the same sort of confident bravado that Hana faced most of theproblems in her life, she jumped in feet first and hoped for a goodlanding.
“You,uh… you want me to show you around?”
“Absolutely!”
Hanacould have crowed with delight.  Nailed it. Of course, the next problem was that this was a compact,single-person mech and there was only so much “showing around”that you could do, but Hana would happily use it to stall for timeand she thought out her next smooth step.  Besides, she loved talkingabout her baby.  With practiced ease, Hana used one of the mech’sarms to swing underself up onto first it’s crouched leg, and then soshe was perched in the crook of its elbow.  Brigitte followed suit, and Hana tried to resist watching the swell of her biceps as her feetsearched for purchase on the mech so she could haul herself up.
Andso Hana talked Brigitte through the ins and outs of the battle mech. Brigitte peered in at the complex array of controls inside thecockpit, listened in rapt fascination as Hana described its featuresand the battles she’s seen with it.
Soonit became much less about impressing a really gorgeous woman, andmore just… talking.  Brigitte was really, really nice.  She laughedeasily, and had a sharp, snide sense of humour, and kept up with Hanaeffortlessly as she got into the more interesting minutia of themech’s features.  Oh, lots of people were interested in here theexploits of Hana Song, South Korean MEKA defender, and they would oohand aah at all theright parts when she told stories about being flung into the ocean bya towering, twenty foot brute of an omnic, or when she had had notchoice but to self-destruct her own mech, barely escaping that onewith her life, but she had never had someone stop her mid-tale to askabout the actual model variants of said omnic or what expulsionmechanism the mech used that managed to get her clear of such ablast.  It wasn’t even annoying to be interrupted – it wasexciting.  Likesomeone was taking the time not to speed run the conversation but topoke around and unlock all the secrets along the way.  Or something.
Completelyoblivious to the emotions banging around in Hana’s head, Brigittepeered at the newly upgraded missile system Hana had been pointingout and said, “I knew I was behind on the latest and greatest, since I was following the big guy around the boonies for the past fewyears boonies, but how did I miss this? MEKA must have gotten a new energy core if they managed to pullsomething like this off!  Keeping this thing mobile, flight-capable,and defensive was already pretty much clocking their core as much asyou could safely expect… how the heck they did keep all that up andadd a missile system?  I mean, you can’t just go make the core biggerwith a living pilot in there, that’d be getting way to chancy.”
Hana rolled hereyes.  She’d commented about the mech’s wimpy power core before, senther complaints as far up the chain as she could manage, only to get areply back telling her to stop being a fool-hardy daredevil thatwanted to throw her life away and to smarten up… or, well, theprofessional, military equivalent.  It seemed to her the only way abigger power core would really be that much of a compromise was ifyou were letting omnics blow you up, and Hana had not intention ofletting omnics blow her up, thanks, so really it was a non-issue. High risk, high reward.  But whatever.
“Nope, sameold, same old,” she told Brigitte.  “It was more of a remodeling. I’m the first to test it out.  We diverted some of the power thatwould have otherwise been used by the defense matrix and fed it tothe missile systems.”
Brigitte’seyebrows went up.  “What?  You’re compromising defense for this? But the defense matrix is one of the things that actually makes amech remotely viable against heavy projectile damage, otherwiseyou’re just a big,” she gestured vaguely to the mech, “pinktarget waiting to blow!”
“Pssh,no.  We’re supposedto be mobile, that’s the whole point!  We’re not there to shield,we’re there to hit hard and fast and get out before too much damageis laid down!  The defense matrix just makes us sitting ducks –with the missiles we can actually attack from a distance beforeneeding to get up close.  Waybetter strategy, trust me.”
Brigitte hummed, but seemed to be considering it.
“Any chance Icould see a test run?” asked Brigitte.  “I’ve only ever seenvideo.  I’d love to see it in person.”
“Absolutely!”said Hana, without hesitation.  How was she supposed to say no tohaving the admiring gaze of a cute girl on her while she did what shedid best?
And then came thecrushing recollection of why she was here in the shop in the firstplace.  The arms, while not as crucial for movement as the thrustersystem, still acted a little like rudders; they were directionconnected to the yokes which controlled all movement.
…Still, it didmean flying the mech would still be doable, even with one arm down. A little clunky, maybe, but she’d managed to get herself through thatlast battle with it down, right?  And it’s not like there would evenbe Talon agents trying to shoot her down this time.  It would befine.  Completely fine and totally work it.
She hesitatedagain.  Common sense was screaming at her to listen for five seconds.
Because on theother hand, she couldn’t help but suspect that an genuine, bona-fidemechanic might not think it was brave or daring or romantic to getinto a damaged craft and push it even harder rather than runningmaintenance.
Damn her and herbad luck.  She was going to have to say “no sorry, I broke thesuper cool mech and am grounded” and watch this amazing woman say“oh no problem” and then remember she had her own work and leaveand never get another chance to talk to her.
Better thannever getting another chance to talk to her because you fly yourselfoff the cliff face and burn to deaths on the rocks below, hermind rebuked, in a voice that sounded frustratingly like her father.
“Actually, Ican’t,” Hana admitted bitterly.  “I’m having some issues with oneof the arms.  Kinda goes past my expertise.  I’m probably going toneed to contact MEKA and see about getting it replaced or something.”
“Well you’realready doing better than Reinhardt on that front,” said Brigittedryly, with a nod towards the pile of metal she’d hauled in.  “Youhave no idea how long I’ve been hounding on him to take a break andget some actual replacement parts for that scrap metal he keepsinsisting on strapping himself into.  But it you like, I could take alook at the mech with you?  Maybe we can figure out what’s wrongtogether.  No idea when Reinhardt’s going to actually show up and Ican’t work until I’ve got the rest of the armour, so I’ve got time. We could make an afternoon of it, get to know each other a littlebetter.  And give me an excuse to dig into some really awesome tech,”she said cheerfully.
Hana couldn’tactually believe her luck.  This was too much.  “You know how oneof these is built?” she asked.
Brigitteshrugged.  “Not really, no.  Not besides for the basic schematicsthat anyone can access with a bit of digging.  But I didn’t know howthe Crusader worked either besides for some of Dad’s stories, and most  of those were just complaining about how Reinhardt treated itand which bits he’d needed to bang out today.  I’m pretty good withthis sort of stuff.  Let me poke around a bit, and I’ll bet I canfigure out what’s wrong and how we can get you mobile again.  …Um,you okay?”
Hana wasn’t eventrying to hide her staring.  What were the odds – she was lamentingabout needing to contact MEKA and risk losing everything over thisstupid mech, and here comes with woman with her pretty eyes andpretty hair and pretty arms and pretty impressive knowledge ofhigh-tech combat systems offering to fix all her problems.
“I couldkiss you,” said Hana, words shooting cheerfully past her mentalfilter and straight to her mouth.
Brigitte laughed, but Hana still hadn’t decided if she was joking or not when theworkshop door opened and a voice boomed.
“Brigitte! There you are!”
Brigitte roundedon the speaker, hands on her hips.  “You mean right where I’msupposed to be?  Yeah!  Where were you?”
This had to beReinhardt.  When Brigitte had said massive, she’d been understatingit.  The man had to be nearly as tall as her mech, with a shaggywhite beard and huge, blinding grin.  Tucked under his arm like itwas a jacket on a warm day, was more of the insanely heavy armourBrigitte had been lugging when she first got here.
As Reinhardtmoved further into the room, Hana caught sight of who was with him –oh joy, Torbjörn.
“Brigitte!”he called.
Brigitte eyesimmediately locked on him, and the stern face she’d been directly atReinhardt immediately melted.  “Papa!” she called, and racedover.
Papa?
Hanawatched with a sort of mute horror as Brigitte wrapped her father –her father – up in ahug and pressed her face to his shoulder, clearly ecstatic to see herfamily – her family– again.  Torbjörn was patting her back warmly, and theconversation quickly switched to a low, warm Swedish.
That would explain why the accent had been so familiar, just said in a different voice. That would explain why the name was so familiar, though she’d only heard Torbjörn’s surname the one time, when they’d first been introduced.
Atsome point during this, Reinhardt had ended up closer to Hana, givingthe other two space.  He introduced himself, and offered Hana amassive hand to shake; his grip was bone-crushing, but Hana was stillto shocked by all the revelations she had been hit with in the pasthalf an hour to care.
“Theyhave a big family,” he told her companionably.  “They would neveradmit it, but I think both have been missing it.  Very protectiveover each other.”  He chuckled a deep, rumbling chuckle.  “It’s agood thing I brought her back in one piece, I’d hate to think whatTorby would do if I hadn’t.”
Hanamade a vague noise of acknowledgement.
Brigitteand Torbjörn were no longer hugging, and by the tone it sounded likethings had descended into some sort of disagreement over something. Hana choice to take that moment to make herself scarce.  If Brigittewas sticking around, she could always find her later for engineeringhelp.

Hana Song layslumped across the length of Lucio’s bed, defeated.
“Were you…flirting vicariously through your mech?” said Lucio from where hewas perched on the edge of his desk, amusedly watching the unexpectedguest who had thrown herself into his room half an hour ago.
“You’re reallynot focusing on the important part of this story,” Hana told thebedsheets.
“Right.  She’sapparently Torbjörn’s kid.  Which is… bad?”
“Yesit’s bad!  It’s sobad!  Can you imagine needing to go up to Torbjörnand saying ‘Hi, your daughter’s arms are builtand I would love for her to cradle me sensually in them’?  Huh?  No! I’m doomed!”
“Uh,yeah, no, I would really not recommend that being your opener forlike… anything, ever.  Especially if you want to actually get adate with her first.”
Hanagroaned pitifully into the mattress.
Hoppingdown from the table, Lucio gave Hana’s shoulders a sympathetic pat.
“Justdon’t think about how awkward breakfast is going to be tomorrow, whenyou’re sitting across from him and trying not to project how into hisdaughter you are,” he said cheerfully.
Agroan.  Hana Song was doomed.

"Miss, your interview is in less than 5 hours, are you sure that you want to be seen on national television with dog fur all over yourself?" Seulgi wrinkled her nose at me in disgust.
"Shut up Seulgi, I still have so much time," I flopped on my bed with my puppy on my chest. "And don't call me 'miss', I'm your younger sister. Don't be weird."
"You are the one who needs to shut up." She scoffed at me, but quickly started giggling and I joined in as well.
"No, but really, your stylist is waiting for you. What's his again? The cute one? Seok-min?" I let a small chuckle escape from my lips at her confusion.
"Seokjin," I got up and placed my puppy on the ground. "And take him. He's all yours." I cackled before sprinting out of my room, listening to her frustrated and embarrassed protests in glee.
"I will bet my entire career that you and Seulgi will get together by the end of this year." I mumbled to Seokjin as he handed me my outfit. He made a weird noise, probably thinking about the possibility.
"Yeah sure, I can hook it up." He said nonchalantly. I choked on my breath in utter horror and shock, I didn't think he would take me so seriously.
"Why are you making me wear something so pretty today?" I asked him as I got changed behind a curtain.
"What do you mean by 'pretty'? You look pretty every day." He said matter-of-factly, and I couldn't help but blush a little at his words.
"I'm not used to this. I can't rock dresses, full stop. I only look decent in a shirt and shorts." I sighed as I looked at myself in the mirror one last time before walking out to sit down in the makeup chair. "Where am I going later, anyway?"
"You're an Academy Award winner, a Grammy winner, and you still don't know where you're going after this. Unbelievable." He called the makeup girl over and crossed his arms. I furrowed my brows, wondering how he linked the three things together.
"You're going on national television, stupid. You're going to be interviewed by Park Jimin!" He exclaimed and threw his hands into the air, almost hitting the makeup girl in the face.
"Who?"
He gave a little gasp at my obliviousness. "Do you not watch the evening news? He's the presenter after that. He does all the celebrity news, he interviews them on radio as well. He's like Korea's very own Ryan Seacrest! Only more beautiful and younger, and did I mention beautiful?"
"Uh, so, does this give me a reason to re-dye my hair?" I murmured as the makeup girl put some bright red lipstick on me, not really caring about whoever Park Jimin was.
"You've already done your makeup, silly. You wouldn't want to ruin her masterpiece, would you?" He said, posing more of a statement than a question. "Thank you Irene." He tapped her on her back as she scuttled away in fear.
"I don't think her name is Irene," I squinted my eyes at my reflection in the mirror.
"Whatever, you're almost ready. Time for hair, time for me to do my magic." He whipped a comb out of the pocket of his pants. "We have no time for re-dying of hair. And I think that this pink hair suits you. Also, don't worry about the interview with Park Jimin later. It will be a walk in the ‘Park’!" I groaned at his very lame joke and he chuckled softly.
I tugged at the hem of my dress, trying to pull it lower.
"Seulgi, why do you look so nervous? I'm the one going out there." I asked her as she bit her neatly manicured nails.
"Look, I'm just worried for you, don't mess this up for m- for yourself, okay? Also, I'm going to be in the same room as Pa-"
Heads were turned as a man walked into the room. He looked confident and cool. He was very handsome, with a charm that seemed to go around the room. His cotton candy coloured hair looked like it took hours to style, his makeup flawless. He wore a suit that looked a little too tight, but it accentuated his muscular arms, so I wasn't complaining.
"Park Jimin-"
Stop being so shallow, maybe he's a dick.
And suddenly, I was being pushed into the set. And right into Park Jimin's arms.
"Cut!"
I heard someone yell, and I swear I heard the entire studio sigh in unison. I didn't realise that I was in the Park Jimin's arms until he pulled me up, and I dusted off my dress.
"Sorry." I bowed to him and ran off to the standby area.
"Could we do that walk in part again? Come in less violently, thanks." The mysterious voice ordered me, and I nodded at the instructions.
After coming out less violently, the rest of the interview went fairly well. I didn’t mention any embarrassing things that could expose me, but I did comment on our similar hair colours, which was enough awkward for one day.
“Hey, we have the same hair!” I blurted out just before he could ask me a question. He tilted his head and was silent for a moment, but quickly caught on and smiled at me. I stretched my hand out for a high-five, hoping that he wouldn’t leave me hanging, and he didn’t. He flashed me the brightest smile I’ve seen in a while and gave me a high-five.
“He has the most gorgeous smile. His eyes smile along with him, did you know? He literally radiated happiness, Seulgi! I can’t believe it!” I exclaimed to my sister as we were leaving the venue, but quickly stopped myself from getting too hysterical over someone I just met.
“He really is a charmer. I got the chills just standing next to him.” Seulgi smiled to herself, quite pleased that she was able to stand next to him, and then I realised all the hype over him. I was going to start watching the celebrity news show from now on. I was going to b-
“Wait!”
I felt someone tap on my back and I turned around.
To be face to face with Park Jimin.
My bodyguard was going to push him away when I stopped him. Jimin looked out-of-breath.
“S-sorry for disturbing y-you. But, w-would you like to g-go out for lunch tomorrow? For w-work purposes, of course.” He asked as he caught his breath. I looked at his panting form, and my heart doubled in size.
Stop thinking of those things.
“YES!” I yelled, startling both him and Seulgi, making them jump a little.
“But miss, tomorrow you have t-”
“Cancel it!” I beamed at the glowing boy in front of me while trying to wave away my sister.
“Uh, we can go another time if you’re bu-” He blushed a little, scratching the back of his head. My eyes widened and I immediately waved my hands frantically.
“No, no! It’s okay, tomorrow is fine. I’m sure it isn’t important.” I smiled at him again, and he reciprocated the happiness.
“Okay! Could I get your number?” He handed me his phone and I willingly took it from him, not minding that it had a bright pink phone case. I punched my numbers in and handed it back to him eagerly.
“Thanks! I’ll text you later. See you tomorrow!” He bowed to me and walked back into the studio. By then, I felt like I was going to explode.
“You know, you’re supposed to meet your father tomorrow. Are you sure you want to cancel?” Seulgi asked me cautiously. I stopped in my tracks, thinking of him.
Did l really have to choose between my father and Park Jimin?
“Cancel the lunch appointment.” I sighed after a long time of just standing there. My sister made a sound of disapproval, but I ignored her and walked back to the car.
Park Jimin.
I went to Google him when I got home.
Actor, Presenter, Singer, Dancer
He seems really cool.
His fans love him because of his bubbly personality and kind words.
Seems legit.
Was in a band called BTS and was internationally known. However, the band disbanded due to unknown reasons. Whether the members are still close is still unknown.
He was in a band? That’s so hot.
Are you sure you want to read Park Jimin fanfic?
I’ve never been more sure in my life.
But, before I could click “yes”, my phone buzzed in my pocket. My gasped and snatched the phone out a little too excitedly to be greeted with Jimin’s text message.
Jimin: hello! This is y/n right? It’s Park Jimin. Are you able to meet at the dog cafe in Gangnam tomorrow at 1? xx
I am literally going to cry.
“Yes!” I screamed at my phone and threw it onto my bed. I pumped my fists into the air in joy and threw myself onto my bed as well. “He texted me!”
The next hour was just me doing some intensive research on Jimin for ‘work purposes’, or at least that’s what I told my sister, until I realised that he didn’t text me back. I picked my phone off the bed and read the message again. And then, it dawned on me.
I was the one who didn’t text him back.
I cried out in horror and quickly typed out a short message to reply him and not seem rude.
Me: hello Jimin! Yep tmr at 1 is gud HAHAHAHA c u !!!!
Too informal?
Me: hello Jimin. Tomorrow at 1pm at the dog cafe will be splendid. Thank you for your time.
Too formal?
Me: hello Jimin! Yeah tomorrow at 1 will be good! Thanks and see you there!
I guess that will do.
And I pressed send, waiting for him to reply like I expected him to send me a message at the exact same moment I sent him one.
[read at 6:45pm]
Oh, okay then. I’ll see him tomorrow anyway.
And I spent the rest of my evening thinking about him.
“So, is my dear y/n going on a date now?” Seokjin teased me as I looked for a dress.
“I think you’re a little too nosy today. Why are you peeking into my personal life? And I’m hanging out with a friend.” I shook my head. “Do you have an outfit for me to wear today? His- I mean their favourite colour is blue, so I want to wear blue.”
“So, you just diss me, and expect me to help you to impress some trick shot guy that might break your heart?” He crossed his arms.
“Ugh, okay then. There isn’t any, so I’m just gonna take this weird purple dress.” I sighed, in hopes of winning him over using reverse psychology.
“There are jeans in the bottom right drawer. And there are nice shirts somewhere in the top shelf I think.” Seokjin whispered to me, as if he didn’t want to get caught trying to help me. I giggled at him and went to search for the clothes. I picked out a simple white shirt and ripped jeans.
“Thank you, and sorry for the trouble.” I did a half-bow to him, actually relieved that he was here to help me. A small smile danced on his lips and I took it as a “you’re welcome” and walked out to get changed.
“Jimin! Hello!” I exclaimed as I got out of the car and saw him standing outside the cafe. He looked stunning as hell, with a long sleeved white sweater and black jeans that hugged his legs that were much prettier than my own, completed with a green beanie on his head.
“Oh, hello y/n. Are you ready to go in?” He flashed me his signature smile, and I was at a loss for words yet again. All I could muster was a slight nod, and he took my hand and led me into the cafe.
Park. Jimin. Is. Holding. My. Hand.
As we entered the place, we were greeted by at least a million puppies, nipping and yapping at our feet. Or at least I was. The dogs didn’t go near Jimin, strangely enough. I squealed at the cute puppies and picked some up to cuddle. Jimin tried picking one up, but it kind of growled at him, so he playfully growled back at it, making me giggle.
Many people in the cafe stared at Jimin and I, and I wasn’t sure whether it was because of Jimin’s good looks, his fame, my actor status or the fact that we were together. BUt it didn’t really bother me, I was just happy that I was with him at that moment.
With a puppy snoring on my lap and Jimin holding my hand in his, it was bliss.
“This one’s name is Bubbles, Jimin. He’s super cute, look at his face!” I whispered to him, afraid to wake the sleeping pup. He nodded fondly and peered at the dog’s face.
“He actually looks like my friend’s dog. I like him.” He nodded in approval and I smiled at him.
“I wonder why the puppies aren’t coming to you. Maybe I should trust them.” I jokingly said with a small wink. He chuckled at my teasing words and picked a dog up.
“What secret do you know about me? Huh?” He lowered his voice, trying to seem manly. But, the dog squirmed in his hands, so he put it down and it scuttled away.
“So, you’re an actress right? I’ve seen you in some dramas. You’re really good.” He murmured to me, and I swear I’ve never blushed so hard.
“Uh, i’m not very good. I just get casted in things for publicity, I guess.” I looked away from him in shame, not really wanting to talk about my career. “But how about you, Mr. actor-slash-singer-slash-presenter-slash-dancer? You’re multi-talented. That’s really cool.”
“I’m not that talented, come on. You’re-” he laughed at me, but was interrupted by a girl tapping on his shoulder. The girl looked about 15, with plaited hair and braces, and she held a notebook with Jimin’s face on it.
“Oppa-ya, could you sign this for me please?” She tilted her head to the side, making me want to laugh at her cute attempt of winning him over. He stared at the girl for a little while, and then magically whipped a pen out of thin air and signed her book. The girl was obviously really happy, as she squealed with joy when he handed the book back to her, and she went away skipping.
“I think that we should leave here and we can go to my house to chill out. It’s about a five minute walk from here. What do you say?” He suggested, and I willingly nodded, reluctantly carrying the sleeping puppy on my lap to his bed, and we left.
“Today’s weather is really nice, don’t you think?” I said it mostly to myself, but he hummed in response. I felt his hand brush against mine, and I laced my fingers in his. My cheeks were burning, but I could blame that on the weather.
And there we were, walking down Gangnam Street, ignoring all the surprised netizens and flashing of cameras. His expression looked a little strained, and I felt like mine was too, but when I looked at him all my worries melted away like ice cream on a hot summer day. He looked so beautiful in the bright sunlight, contrary to the sharp wind that tangled my hair and made me look like I was going very red.
We walked all the way until we reached a very tall, very modern building, and into a lift that took us to the penthouse. Once I stepped into his apartment, my mouth hung open. I couldn’t think straight looking at all that expensive looking furniture, and the five other beautiful men sitting on a couch that looked like it was bought with all the money I had earned.
“Ah, there they are! I’d like to meet my friends.” He squeezed my hand, and I had never been more glad that his seater covered his hands, because my hands were sweating.
It’s only been one date, and he’s introducing his friends to me now? This is going a little too fast, but I shouldn’t say anything.
“Guys, this is y/n. Remember her from that drama Temptation? Yeah, she was playing the young Park Jiwoo.” He asked the five men, and all of them sat up and nodded their heads.
“Y/n, the one in blue is Namjoon-hyung, the one in black is Yoongi-hyung, the one in green is Hoseok-hyung, the one in white is Jungkook and the other one in black is Taehyung.” He introduced, and I gave a polite bow to all of them. They all nodded to me, besides Taehyung and Jungkook who gave me an enthusiastic “hello!” each.
“I’m so sorry, I actually have to leave for a little bit, I have to settle some stuff with the producer of my evening show. I’ll only be gone for two hours at most. Would you like to stay here, or do you want me to take you home right now?” He said, not looking up from his phone.
“Um, I think I can stay here and wait for you,” I beamed at him, and he looked up at me and beamed back.
“Great! Guys, please treat her well and don’t scare her away.” He turned on his heels and came dangerously close to my face. “I’ll see you in a bit, okay?” He whispered to me, and his lips brushed my cheek. I felt a tingle run down my spine and I nodded furiously. And he smirked and left.
I stood awkwardly at the entrance of the apartment, facing the five guys. They gave me a small nod, and gestured for me to sit with them. I gulped and moved my wooden legs to sit on the comfiest couch i’ve ever sat on.
“So, y/n, how old are you? Are you a 95 liner like Jiminie?” The one in blue asked me. Namjoon, was it?
“Uh, I-i’m a 95 liner, yeah.” I stuttered, trying to hide my increasing nerves.
“Don’t be nervous, we don’t bite,” Hoseok chuckled, and I felt the need to smile along.
“So, are you and hyung going to get married? I like you, you seem really nice!” Jungkook blurted out, earning him a light smack on his arm by one of his hyungs.
“Um,” I coughed, expressing my nervousness. “We’ve only been on one date, so I don’t so as of now.”
“I think you guys are making her nervous, you guys should go now.” Yoongi told the rest in a monotonous voice. They all grumbled, but did as he said, and I said my silent thanks to Yoongi for helping me. He stayed on the couch, though, but I didn’t really mind.
“I’m Yoongi, if you forgot.” I nodded at him, confident that his name was the easiest to remember. “You don’t need to call me Oppa, if that was what you were thinking.” He clarified, and even though I wasn’t thinking about that, I nodded along.
After that awkward first words, we started talking. About our likes, dislikes, favourite things and least favourite things. He was surprisingly easy to talk to, and surprisingly relatable as well. We had many things in common, and we mostly talked about music. He liked rap and hip hop, so did I. I even let him listen to some of my songs that I had recorded for fun, and he gave me a stamp of approval.
“Wow, should I be honoured that THE Min Yoongi gave me a thumbs up on my joke song?” I giggled, and he flashed me a gummy smile that I never thought that I would ever see.
“Yes, yes you should.”
But, before I could show Yoongi my other joke song, Jimin came in from the lift and sat beside me.
“You seem really comfortable here, that’s a good sign. Would you like to stay for dinner? I think Jungkook is cooking glazed sweet potatoes, and it’s really an interesting experience to eat that.” He asked me, looking at me with those gorgeous eyes and I immediately nodded without thinking.
“Great, I’ll be in the kitchen for a bit. I’ll be back.” His hand lingered on my arm a little too long, and I felt my blush creeping up to my cheeks again. Yoongi had also gotten up to go to the bathroom, so I was alone in the living room.
I took my phone out to check the time, when I saw the twenty-one missed calls and fifteen messages Seulgi had sent me. I sighed and rubbed my temples, worrying that Seulgi was going to overworry. I called her back and held my breath, preparing myself for a big scolding from her. She was working for me, but I was still her younger sister.
“Unnie?” I whispered into the phone, and I heard her cry out in frustration.
“First, you don’t answer my calls, and now you’re suddenly calling me unnie? I was so worried for you! You just ignored my calls, and I had to do everything myself! Where are you right now? I’ll send someone to pick you up.”
“Seulgi, please. I’m fine. I’m at Jimin’s house, it’s fine! But, can I stay for dinner? Please, they asked and I already said yes.” I pleaded into the phone, not caring that Jimin had entered the room and sat on the space next to me.
“You have so much to do tonight, what are you doing being at his house for so long? You have to send emails to-”
“Yay, thanks Seulgi! I love you very much! I’ll be home before ten and I’ll have plenty of time to finish up my work thank you! See you, I love you!” I dragged out my last word before hanging up on her and exhaling very loudly. Jimin pet my head, and I instinctively leaned towards him and lay my head on his shoulder.
“Ewww~ You guys have only been on one date, and you’re already so lovey-dovey.” Jungkook came into the room wearing an apron that said “kiss the kook” and a very disgusted expression. I was going to comment on the younger’s cute words, but Jimin beat me to it.
“Date? What date?”
I felt my heart break into two.
He said it with such confusion, that I couldn’t tell whether he was joking or not.
Jungkook’s eyes widened, making him look more like a child. He blinked at us awkwardly for a moment, but quickly came to his senses. “Dinner is ready, y’all can come now.”
Jimin got up and pulled me to my feet, and we made our way to the dining room together, but I suddenly lost all appetite.
He didn’t see today as a date? Then what did he think it was?
But, I pushed all my negative thoughts aside to be replaced by the glorious food in front of me. Not only could he ‘kook’, he could also cook.
We spent dinner talking about everything we could think of, and trying to pry the sweet potatoes off the plate. It was Jungkook’s special dish when everyone was sad or during a happy occasion, they told me, and I smiled at them.
After that day, Jimin and I became closer and closer. I ignored his words that hurt me before, and I tried to move on.
Maybe he just was trying to protect his dignity.
He texted a lot, and we called and video called a lot as well. We talked about everything, from good things to bad things, but we were never at a lost for words. We never got bored while talking, nor did we run out of things to say. Conversation flowed really well, and sometimes I felt myself wondering why I had ever doubted him for being a dick.
I talked a lot to Yoongi, as well. He was someone I could talk to comfortably without it getting too awkward. Our similar taste in music usually took the wheel in our conversations, we recommended music to each other and that strengthened our friendship.
Jimin and I went on a few more ‘dates’, or whatever he thought they were. We went out to eat, I went to his house to watch a romantic movie, we went shopping together, and many more things that I really cherished.
There were too many news articles about us to ignore, but Jimin didn’t seem to be bothered.
“It’s going to die out soon if we don’t address it, it’ll be okay.” He flashed that award-winning eye smile again, winning me over in a snap of a finger.
The news articles didn’t bother me, though. It was the number of news articles surrounded around our “pending relationship”. All of them said the same thing, all talking about how people saw us around together, holding hands and asking if the fans thought we would be a good couple or not. Most of the comments said we would be the cutest celebrity couple, and I didn’t deny them.
We were busy, I had a new drama that I was working on and he had his presenting career, but we made it work. We carved out time in between shoots to see each other, and even if we couldn’t see each other in person, we would call or text.
And every day, I fell more and more in love with him.
I couldn’t help it, it just happened. It hit me one day out of the blue. I didn’t just like him, I loved him. He brought so much happiness into my life, and introduced me to so many people that I wouldn’t ever trade for the world. I felt like if I ever let him go, all these things would suddenly disappear from my life, leaving me stranded in my own pit of loneliness and self-pity.
I also clung onto the hope that he would love me back.
Even when everything came crashing down.
So, I was close to two people in his friend group, Taehyung and Yoongi, and I really trusted the both of them. So, I told them my secret.
“I think i’m in love with Jimin.”
Taehyung spat his drink out onto the coffee table in front of him.
“Huh? What do you mean? You love Jimin? Are you sure this isn’t infatuation?” He spluttered out, probably very shocked at my sudden confession. Yoongi held his cam and cool exterior, so i didn’t really know what he was thinking at the moment.
“I don’t think it’s infatuation. Every time I go near him, or think of him, or talk to him, my heart begins to flutter. It’s not under my control, if I could I would definitely not want to feel like this, but I do. When we talk, I get excited over small things. I can feel it in my bones, Tae. have you ever felt this way about a woman?”
“Not about a woman,” he blushed and turned to face the back.
“Y/n-ah. Congrats on finding love and everything, but here’s the thing: do you want a relationship with him? Otherwise, all this is irrelevant.” He bluntly stated, making Taehyung shift in his seat and making me feel a little uneasy.
He had put it harshly, but he was right. So what if I found love but didn’t want a relationship? Did I really want to spend a long time, possibly the rest of my life, with this man?
“Yeah, I guess I do.”
“Okay, then good for you.” Yoongi curtly nodded and went back to scrolling through his phone. Taehyung seemed a little off, but quickly whipped out his phone and started scrolling too.
Was it so wrong that I loved him?
Me: Jimin-ah!I have about 2 hrs before our next shoot tgt! Would you like to come over or I can go over as well :^)
Jimin ❤️: busy.
Me: We can go to the venue together :^)
Jimin ❤️: can’t. sorry.
And that’s when it all came crashing down.
He hadn’t been like this before, why was he acting so cold towards me all of a sudden? Oh, cmon y/n, it’s just a text message, maybe he’s in a meeting. You’ll see him during filming.
And I did see him during filming, but he didn’t see me.
“Jimin!” I called out to him and waved. He looked back, but looked away just as fast. His pace quickened as he disappeared into his changing room. I was left there, hurt and very confused.
Our characters did not have much interaction except for one scene. And we were going to film that one scene that day. It was a comedy drama about two colleagues fighting for the head position but end up falling in love later in the story. He was playing the boy’s overprotective friend, who causes a lot of problems later in the story, but is checking the girl out to see if she is “worthy enough” to date his friend.
“Ya, are you the idiot who is dating my best friend?” He coughed into his fist, already fully into the character.
“Are you using informal language with me? We don’t even know each other.” I snapped back, wavering a little under his strong gaze.
“Ya, listen up, I’ve heard that I’m older than you. So back off.” He squinted at me.
“Look, I don’t even know you. I’m just here t-”
“You know, you’re really pretty. Easily the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.” Jimin winked at me, and I desperately searched for any signs of genuinity in what he just said. After his character had said that line, my character was supposed to throw her cup at him, but I was too busy ‘looking for love’ that I totally forgot what to do and screwed the scene up.
When the director yelled cut and we returned to our original positions, I thought I saw him roll his eyes, but I chose to ignore it.
We did the scene one more time, and we wrapped it up perfectly.
“Hey, Jimin, you were really good!” I tapped him on the shoulder and smiled at him. The corners of his lips turned up a little, and I took this as a good sign.
“You too.” He nodded at me and walked away.
Well, it could have been worse. He could have totally ignored me, but he didn’t. Does this mean that he likes me, just a little?
I spent the rest of my day smiling and thinking of him.
But as we got further and further into the filming, he ignored me more and more, and interacted with me only when it was necessary. We stopped texting regularly, and he stopped asking me out to hang. We kind of just stopped everything we had.
But, I still prayed and hoped that he had some feelings for me, because I sure did have feelings for him.
I started hanging out with Yoongi more than him, and we would just sit and talk about anything and everything under the sun. But, I needed to ask him about Jimin.
“Yoongi-ah, do you think Jimin thinks that I like him? Is that why he’s acting so strange?”
“Oh, he knows that you like him.”
What?
“What? Who told him?” I yelled, running over to his side. “Oh my god, I can’t fucking breathe. I’m going to faint.” I started hyperventilating and everything looked a little blurry.
“I think it would be best if you didn’t faint on me,” he said with a serious tone, but I could tell that he was a little worried. “I heard Jungkook talking about it to Hoseok, that Jimin knows that you like him. I didn’t tell him, if you’re wondering. And I don’t think Taehyung did either. Besides, I don’t think he’s acting strange on purpose. I’ve known Jimin for eight years now, he’s a genuine dude. He wouldn’t hurt someone intentionally. He’s just a little oblivious.”
“Do you think that he will forget about this?” I looked up at Yoongi with tears ready to spill out at any negative response Yoongi was forming in his head.
“I honestly think that he will. It might take a while, but he’ll eventually forget it and everything will go back to normal. Jimin doesn’t hold grudges easily, and I think that he’ll understand later on. But we will save that story for a time when we’re all old. You can still have feelings for him, nobody’s going to stop you. And you know, maybe he’ll like you back, but I can’t decide that for him. You just have to be patient and see what happens.” He reassured me, holding my chin up to face him as my warm tears glided down my cheeks in silence. “But for now, let’s go get some ice cream to calm you down a little. And let’s bring Seulgi along, I think she feels a little left out sometimes.” He stood up, and pulled me to my feet. He draped an arm around my shoulder and I buried my face into his shoulder.
“Thanks Yoongi.”
“It’s going to be okay.”
With Yoongi’s blessing, I continued to harbour feelings for Jimin. Seeing as I saw him almost every other day, I thought about him a lot. As I saw him acting, I thought about how he was so talented. His character was basically the comic relief, he made me laugh until my sides hurt. He never failed to make my day, and I hoped that my scenes made his day as well.
I would try to initiate conversation and we would occasionally have a short conversation about anything we wanted to talk about. I was really happy when he replied to my messages, I sometimes would screenshot our messages and show them to Seulgi so she could fangirl over the fact that I was friends with her celebrity crush.
“Y/n, can I be super honest?” She asked me once while looking at our messages. I was sitting on the couch, eagerly waiting for her reaction.
“Yeah, sure.”
“He seems like he’s replying with very little effort. You see, you typed such a long message here, and all he replied you with was a ‘cool’. I think you’re putting in too much effort into this, little sis. You might want to back down a little, give the dude some space for a bit and try again.” She sighed, and I felt a little bit of anger boiling up inside of me, not sure whether it was because of her blunt words, or the fact that I had suspected it as well.
“Seulgi, I don’t think you should butt into things like this anymore.” I murmured, taking my phone from her and slinking back to my room, locking the door behind me. I flopped onto my bed and had a long, silent cry.
I could sense that he wasn’t really putting in much effort, but he replied me. He could have ignored me.
As the months passed by, my love for him grew stronger, he pushed me away more and more, until we stopped talking altogether. I didn’t really like the distance between us, even if we saw each other regularly, and I kind of slipped into a slump. I was constantly lethargic, I had massive headaches and I felt a little numb to all emotions. Sometimes, I would lie on my bed, body ridden with insomnia, thinking about him, about us. What we were. But sometimes, I cried myself to sleep, as dramatic as that sounds.
My heart ached for him, I felt empty without him, and when I was with him, I felt heartbroken. I didn’t know how or what to feel. There were a few thoughts of self-harm running through my mind, and I did attempt to do it, but when I picked up the blunt butter knife, I couldn’t hurt myself. There was something in me screaming that it was a bad idea, and I would just end up sitting on the ground, unharmed on the outside but broken on the inside. I mentioned these things to Yoongi, and he was very supportive even though he didn’t quite understand.
“Yoongi, I feel really bad right now. Is this normal?”
“Y/n-ah. You shouldn’t feel bad. Like I told you, I’m very sure that Jimin doesn’t know that he’s hurting you. I won’t tell him so you won’t be ashamed, but I don’t think that this is something you want to keep up with. It’s very problematic and it’s taking a very obvious toll on you. You look so thin, and your eyes are dull. Take a little break of filming is what I think you should do.” He continued to talk but I couldn’t really hear him anymore.
I looked down at myself, my wrists, my thighs, my stomach. All of them seemed thinner than normal. But that was just because I had no appetite, I wasn’t bulimic or anorexic, I simply just didn’t feel like eating. But why?
There were so many articles talking about how thin I was. My fans were very supportive, telling me to be strong and be healthier, but they didn’t know what this felt like. Only I did.
And that’s when I decided that I was going to get over him.
I knew that it was going to be difficult and extremely painful for me, but this ‘relationship’ I had in my head was obviously not going to happen in real life. I didn’t blame Jimin at all, it was not his fault, neither was it mine. But sometimes, things just happen, or they don’t.
“I’m going to get over him, I’ve been stuck in this crush for too long already. It’s almost been a year and a half, I think I’m ready to stop.” Tears welled up in my eyes as I told Yoongi, and I had no intention of holding them back.
“I’m here for you.”
So, from then on, I promised myself that I would get over him. Every time I thought of him, I would mentally slap myself and think of something else, which sort of worked, but my mind would naturally gravitate back to him like a paperclip to some sort of magnet, and I had to repeat the process, leaving me mentally and physically drained by the end of the day.
I was a pretty vocal person, so I decided to talk to Yoongi about it. He was a good listener, quiet and sturdy, and he sat quietly next to me, hearing all my feelings through text or in person. Sometimes he gave me advice, which was mostly to naturally get over him, but most of the time he just sat there listening intently.
I tried talking to my other friends as well, leaving his name as a blank, but they all gave me the same response: if you want to get over him, just stop talking about him, that way you won’t think about him as much. But I already thought about him on a daily basis, so what was the difference if I shut up?
I couldn’t breathe.
All the air in my body felt like it was being sucked out. I felt like dying.
I just got home from a photoshoot that went terribly wrong because the camera director thought that I was not the right model and started throwing a fit. It turned out okay in the end, at least he didn’t hurt me, but it still hurt my feelings.
As my car was pulling up into my driveway, I felt nauseous. I bolted out of the car and ran straight for the toilet, where I emptied the contents of my stomach into the toilet bowl. NOt that there was much to empty, though.
I just sat on the ground, and reality hit me. Getting over him was the hardest thing I ever had to do.
I had done many crazy things to prepare for a role, like egg someone’s house to study their reaction, cut my hair unevenly to see what the media would say about me, and hug random strangers on the street to see what they would do.
None of them was as hard as staying conscious while having a panic attack.
And there I was, on the floor of my bathroom, having a panic attack. My breathing was rapid and shallow, and I couldn’t think straight. All my thoughts flew out the window, but the thought of Jimin stayed with me, comforting and hurting me at the same time.
I started hysterically crying, and Seulgi started banging on the door. Everything was blurry and disoriented, like I was looking through a fisheye lens. I slammed my head on the wall a few times, trying to knock some sense into myself as I hyperventilated, but it didn’t work.
I was a mess, sobbing on the damp floor, eyes bulged out, gasping for air and comfort.
What do I do? What did I do? I can’t breathe.
I tried counting the number of light bulbs in the room to take my mind off this attack, but everything became blurrier, and I had to focus on staying conscious.
My trembling hands reached out for my phone in my pocket, I had no energy to grab so I just dragged it out and held it. It looked like it was vibrating, but it was just me.
I dialed the first number that came to mind and held it next to my ear.
“Yeoboseyo?”
“Yoongi, panic, attack, please, help.” I wheezed into the phone.
“Square breathe. Four in, four hold, four out, four hold. I’ll be there, just wait for me.”
He arrived at my house with a stuffed bear and a concerned expression. I stared at him from the mountain of blankets I had buried myself under.
Seulgi had managed to open the door to the bathroom and saw me crying on the floor. She immediately managed to get me up as I was too tired to resist and brought me to my room. She was in the kitchen making me a warm drink, and I thanked the gods for my wonderful and caring sister.
“What happened?” Yoongi said as he set the bear down.
“Yoongi, I don’t know what to do.” I hiccuped and closed my eyes to soothe the headache I felt coming on. “I really want to get over him, but I feel...I feel like...I don’t know how to explain it. But, I really love him. And when I try to forget him, it hurts. And when I think of him, it hurts. Yoongi, I am hurting. My heart is hurting. I can’t do this. I’ve never been in this much pain in my life.” I started crying all over again, but this time it wasn’t hysterical. It was the silent type, where tears just fell from your eyes, making you hurt even more. My nails dug into my skin, making little crescent indents into my arm.
I was going through so much, with the fame and now this. I couldn’t take it. It was too difficult.
“Yoongi, i’m in so much pain. I want to hurt myself, but I can’t. I can’t do that to myself. I can’t continue with life like this, Yoongi, I can’t.”
I looked up and saw tears rolling down his pale cheeks, but he didn’t make an effort to wipe them away.
“It’s going to be okay.”
1 year later
“Jimin-ah! Is that you?” I yelled out, and he turned around to face me. A grin spread across his face like wildfire, and he walked towards me with a spring in his step.
“Y/n! How have you been? I haven’t seen you lin like a year!” He stepped forward and embraced me. I felt the urge to wriggle out of his touch, but I took a deep breath and hugged him back. It felt good.
“I’ve been good, a little busy with filming and photoshoots, but otherwise good! We should meet up sometime to hang out.”  I smiled at him warmly, and he returned the smile with a genuine one. But, after a while, his smile faded a little, and there was a glint of worry in his eyes.
“Y/n, I need to tell you something.” He held my hands, and my breath quickened a little.
“Yoongi told me about what happened last year. About, you know, me and you.” He scratched the back of his neck nervously. “I just wanted to apologise. I swear I didn’t intentionally hurt you. I was just a little freaked that a beautiful girl like you would love an idiot like me, so I wanted to distance myself a little. I didn’t know that I would end up hurting you. I was so immature and I really just want to start over with you. Do you forgive me?”
‘Hmm,” I pretended to think, picking at my nails, teasing him a little. “I’d have to think about that. But do you know what will make me make my decision faster? Us hanging out, sometime next week? I’ll call you.” I gave him a playful thumbs up, and he laughed as he shook his head.
“Of course, we’ll arrange a date.”
“It’s settled then.” I did a playful bow to him and started to skip away, but dipped my head backwards to say something before I left.
“Hey Jimin,” I called to him and he raised his head to look at me with confusion. “Remember when I was whipped for your ass?” He tilted his head and I flashed him a cheeky smile.
“Yeah, me neither.”

Blast from the Past, or How Not to Write a Query Letter
It has been a WHILE since I’ve been on Tumblr and I’m sorry for the disappearing act. The best news, though? I got a book deal! My YA Fantasy novel, Ash Princess, will be out from Delacorte in Spring 2018 in the US and in ten(!!!) other countries so far. I think everyone who knows me knows that this has been a long time in the works. Eight years, to be exact, from finishing my first book when I was eighteen to selling this one.
Which also breaks down to nine manuscripts. You read that right. Nine manuscripts. In hindsight, most of these could more accurately be called drafts since it took me quite a while to get the hang of editing (and relatedly, asking for help from critique partners and beta readers). So if I could give any kind of general advice, it would be that: get other eyes on your work. Ask for help from people who you trust to be critical. Listen to them and REwrite.
More specific advice? Write a compelling query letter.
One important thing to remember is that agents WANT you to succeed. They’re hoping a query will grab them, they’re hoping they’ll read material they fall in love with. But they also see a lot of queries and writing a query that stands out is a lot of work and often requires several drafts and getting critiques from others to point out things that you might be too close to notice.
I’ve interned at two different literary agencies and at one, my main job was going through the query inbox. At the other, I read submitted manuscripts, which is a topic for a different day. I had already sent my queries for Ash Princess when I started my first internship and shortly thereafter, my agent (the incomparable Laura Biagi) offered me representation, but I learned so much about writing query letters in those months that I wish I’d known years earlier because my queries pre-Ash Princess?
They sucked. You want proof? Behold: the very first query I ever wrote, at eighteen, for a YA fantasy novel in the vein of Gail Carson Levine in all of it’s cring-y glory.
To __________,
Undoubtedly you’ve grown up hearing fairytales. Cinderella, Snow White, Rapunzel, Beauty and the Beast; classic tales full to the brim of magic, love and happily ever afters for all those who deserve them. Stories about dainty, delicate princesses, peasant girls with their heads in the clouds and heroes that are all charm and no flaws. But in reality, no one is quite so perfect, even in the realm of fairytales.
Anything, my first full novel, is the story about three girls who live in the fantastical country of Vairleigh. There’s Violie, the blunt, brash and beautiful princess silently rebelling against a life she has no control over, Bindi the Cinderella-esque heroine who has both feet firmly on the ground, thank-you-very-much and more sense than to pine over princes and then there’s Tippa, the wide-eyed, romantic village girl who proves she’s made of tougher stuff than everyone seems to expect of her.
When Bindi’s mother dies, leaving her orphaned at seventeen, a stroke of fate sends her to the palace on the whim of Prince Lucas, a boy she didn’t recognize a few weeks before when they met at Market Day. Once there, Bindi is ostracized by the other ladies who attend to the princess, ridiculed if she’s lucky, ignored completely if not. She finds friendship in an unusual place, the princess herself who is just as much an outcast as she is, but by choice. She also finds herself falling for Prince Lucas, despite her hardest efforts to be practical.
After Bindi left her best friend Tippa behind in their village, Tippa relied more than ever on her fiancé Peter, whom she’d been desperately in love with since they were twelve. But when another girl turns up pregnant, claiming Peter as the baby’s father, Tippa finds herself wholly alone for the first time. She makes it through, closing herself off from romance for the pain it had already caused her. But where does that leave Jory, the scar-faced, kind-eyed knight who has been faithfully delivering letters to and from Bindi since she left?
Violie, on the other hand, needs no one. She’s grown up with only her older brother and his despicable friend, Raif for true company. One day, she knows, she’ll be shipped off to a foreign country to secure an alliance of truce. It’s not a future she’s ever openly begrudged, though she quietly fights it in any way she can. When Raif goes from being despicable to being surprisingly alluring, Violie finds herself unwilling to part from him. Though at what cost to her country?
Anything tells the story of three radically different girls from opposing backgrounds as they pass into adulthood and learn what love and friendship really mean.
As stated before, Anything is my first full novel (currently just over 97,000 words), though I’ve written several unfinished stories and a few plays including one that won Critic’s Choice at the Florida District X Thespian Festival. I’m currently a freshman at Savannah College of Art and Design and aspiring to major in Performing Arts and minor in Creative Writing and British-American Studies. Thank you for taking the time to look over this and let me know if you’d like to see the full manuscript.
Sincerely,
Laura Kathleen Sebastian
A couple of side notes: I did not, in fact, end up minoring in Creative Writing or British-American Studies. Eighteen-year-old Laura was an ambitious but lazy creature. Secondly, this query could have been phenomenal and this book wouldn’t have gone anywhere. It was a godawful mess on so many levels, but let’s pretend for a second that it wasn’t. There are so many things wrong with this query alone. I’m also pretty mortified by the names I chose.
The most troubling thing about it isn’t even the embarrassing mess of typos (but check your typos, guys) it’s that there is nothing compelling about any of this. There is no sense of what the characters are working toward or what’s at stake for them if they fail. I don’t think anyone reading this would want to know more and therefore, it’s not a successful query.
The beginning paragraph could, honestly, be cut. It’s cliche and boring and I would bet most agents stopped reading one sentence in. Not that it gets much better after that.
There’s just too much happening here. Now, I had three main characters with different things going on and one of the many problems with the manuscript itself is that there wasn’t really a through-line connecting the stories. The characters knew each other and interacted, but their stories weren’t really connected. As a result, the query was impossible to write in any sensical way.
For comparison’s sake, below I’ve pasted the query I sent out for Ash Princess:
Dear __________,
Theodosia’s mother was known as the Queen of Flame and Fury, but after their country was conquered by seafaring savages and her mother executed, Theo became the Ash Princess. Taken hostage at the age of six to prevent rebellion, she has been ridiculed and abused by the Kaiser and his court for more than a decade. Though she is surrounded by those who use her country’s once sacred magic sacrilegiously, the only power Theo possesses is her sharp, conniving mind. She pretends to be broken and empty-headed in order to survive, but Theo has never stopped gathering intelligence and planning her revenge.
When the Kaiser forces her to execute her last hope of rescue, Theo vows to save herself, even if that means hurting the enemies she’s come to love. She throws herself into a plot to seduce and murder the Kaiser’s warrior son with the help of a group of magically gifted and volatile rebels, but her developing feelings for him and her close friendship with a spoiled but kind socialite blur the line between the naive girl she pretends to be and the shrewd queen she needs to become.
Cornered into impossible choices and unable to trust even those who claim to be on her side, Theodosia must stand on her own as a queen in order to to liberate her people before there is nothing left of her country but ashes.
ASH PRINCESS is a YA Fantasy novel complete at 91,000 words. It is perfect for fans of Marie Rutkoski’s THE WINNER’S CURSE and those who root for Sansa on GAME OF THRONES (but wish she had a little more gumption).
I graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2012 and am currently living in Manhattan and working as a babysitter. Previously, I interned at Housing Works Bookstore and I still volunteer there. I also have a play published with Playscripts, Inc.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Laura Sebastian
Even rereading it now, there are little things I want to change, but overall the query does it’s job. It introduces a main character (Theodosia) and shows what she wants (to reclaim her country) and it makes it clear what’s at stake if she fails (her life and the lives of her people). It also hints at complications that will arise on her journey without giving an overwhelming amount of information right up front. My agent ended up using bits and pieces of this query in my pitch letter and it still lives on in my Goodreads summary. I also can’t understate the importance of good, accurate comp titles, but again, that’s another post for another day.
In an early version of this query, I’d made the common mistake of throwing too many fantasy names of places and people right up front but an amazingly kind agent (Molly Jaffa at Folio Jr) pointed this out early on and my query became instantly better.
It’s worth pointing out that my Ash Princess query is significantly shorter than my first one, but that it accomplishes way more. This is something to think about when you write your query as well. Having seen a query inbox from the other side, I can say that agents do get a LOT of queries and that keeping things concise and compelling is the way to go.
I got no interest at all in my first query, no partial or full requests. For Ash Princess, I got quite a few requests, including one from Agent Laura!
So if you’re currently querying or getting ready to start, I hope this helps out a bit and I’m happy to answer any questions. It’s a rough path, I know. I have email folders with over 200 rejections, not including the agents who don’t reply if they aren’t interested. But hang in there. Write. Rewrite. Rewrite some more. It’ll be worth it, I promise.

Market FOMO Rising; Disney Plus Ultra
Market FOMO Rising; Disney Plus Ultra:
Mr. FOMO Risin’
If you ever needed clear proof that the stock market does not represent the U.S. economy, today provided it.
The U.S. Department of Labor announced that 6.6 million Americans filed for first-time unemployment benefits last week. The latest data bring the total of new claims to more than 16 million for the past three weeks.
That’s 10% of the U.S. workforce gone. Poof. Vanished into the novel coronavirus tainted air.
How did Wall Street react to this economic travesty? With a rally, of course.
But, in Wall Street’s defense, it was distracted by shiny objects — $2.3 trillion worth of shiny objects, to be precise.
To keep investors from looking behind the curtain, the Federal Reserve announced a $2.3 trillion lending package to support the economy. Fed Chairman Oz — er, Jerome Powell declared that the central bank will “provide as much relief and stability as we can.”
You can read all the nitty-gritty details here — including the Fed’s plan to buy junk corporate bonds. (This literally can’t go belly up, right?)
But Powell wasn’t alone in defending the U.S. economy. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told CNBC’s Squawk on the Street that the U.S. could open back up in May. Mnuchin noted that the Trump administration was doing “everything necessary that American companies and American workers can be open for business and that they have the liquidity that they need to operate their business in the interim.”
The Takeaway:
I want to believe, dear readers. I truly do.
I want to believe that, once the COVID-19 threat passes, everything will magically return to normal … that businesses will quickly rehire 16 million Americans and get us all back to work.
I want to believe that the Fed’s $2.3 trillion announcement, the Treasury Secretary’s appearance on a major financial TV show and the revelation of 6.6 million new jobless claims happening on the same day is just a coincidence. (Hint: It’s not.)
I also want to believe that the recent market rally is the start of a new bull market … that there’s no more risk left in the system … and that rainbows and monkeys will fly out of my … well, you get the picture.
Right now, if you’re following Great Stuff’s recommendations, you’re likely experiencing a heavy dose of “fear of missing out,” or FOMO. You’ve got that FOMO risin’. And it’s gonna keep on risin’.
But you and I, we didn’t just get into town about an hour ago. We know which way the wind blows.
We know that the economic bill for the COVID-19 shutdown has to come due sooner or later. Wall Street can ignore weekly jobless claims. It can ignore a trickle of economic data here and there — especially when the Fed chair and the Treasury Secretary are giving stump speeches.
What Wall Street can’t ignore is the flood of bad economic data that’s coming … or the wave of horrendous corporate earnings reports that will follow.
It will be interesting to see how much ammunition the Fed has left when the inevitable comes.

The Good: Disney Plus Ultra
My wife jokingly refers to The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS) as a “people trap built by a mouse.” Judging by how crowded the company’s theme parks were before the COVID-19 shutdown, she’s not wrong.
With the launch of Disney+ last year, the mouse now has a digital trap as well. And boy, is it effective. According to Disney, its new streaming service now has 50 million paid subscribers, up from just 28.6 million in February. That’s a 75% jump in roughly two months!
The surprising growth even put the most bullish of analyst projections to shame. JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) predicted 40 million subs by the end of 2020. The end of 2020.
Disney is now on pace to easily top its original estimate of 60 million to 90 million Disney+ subscribers by 2024.
What’s more, the service just launched in India in February, and it expanded heavily across Europe in late March. That means more subscriber growth will come this year — especially with launches in Japan, Western Europe and Latin America coming later in 2020.
While Disney+ revenue won’t replace lost park revenue due to COVID-19, it puts the company in a leading position in the streaming market heading into a post-quarantine world.
DIS is high on Great Stuff’s list for a potential buy once things settle down.
The Bad: Not Enough Panic-Buying?
The COVID-19 outbreak was initially illustrated with images of shopping carts filled to the breaking point — mostly with toilet paper. Retailers clearly stood to benefit from the panic-buying, and today, we got a glimpse at one of panic-buyers’ biggest targets: Costco Wholesale Corp. (Nasdaq: COST).
Sales skyrocketed for Costco in March, with same-store sales spiking 12.1% on the month.
But analysts had their hopes set higher … much higher. The average consensus estimate for Costco’s March sales growth sits at 24.1%. So, despite seriously impressive sales growth, Costco still missed expectations.
Furthermore, Costco said that sales of non-essential products, such as electronics and apparel, hurt overall sales figures. Store hours and store closures due to COVID-19 also negatively impacted sales.
Now, if COST stock was down just because it missed some overinflated analyst figures, I’d say the shares are a bargain on today’s sell-off. However, we all know that 12.1% sales growth isn’t sustainable.
This is doubly true when you consider that 16 million Americans have now filed for unemployment. Costco will likely see sales growth decline — slowly due to stimulus efforts, but they will still decline.
In fact, we may have seen the peak for consumer spending this year, and that doesn’t bode well for COST.
The Ugly: Grounded
Airline stocks soared today. Investors likely banked on hopes that the U.S. will be open for business by next month — thanks Mnuchin!
But, if investors think that there won’t be plenty of turbulence ahead, they’re sorely mistaken.
Right now, airlines such as Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE: DAL), American Airlines Group Inc. (Nasdaq: AAL) and United Airlines Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: UAL) are all counting on a government bailout. They’re losing tens of millions of dollars a day due to COVID-19 quarantines and travel bans.
Roughly $29 billion was earmarked for the airline bailout, but none of that cash is flowing. According to reports, the Department of the Treasury is asking for more financial information before letting the spice flow.
In fact, the data requested appear more akin to a loan process than a cash grant application, according to sources.
There are two takeaways here: First, bailout cash for airlines isn’t flowing out right now, and it probably won’t for a while longer. Second, that cash will come with more strings attached than airlines and investors expect.
This isn’t a carte blanche bailout. And with traffic expected to remain low even after the all-clear sounds, airline stocks will certainly get hammered once again.
It’s that time again! Today, we dive headfirst into the Great Stuff inbox and see what you and your fellow readers are pondering this week.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?
I think so, Mr. Great Stuff, but if they called them “sad meals” no one would buy them.
Let’s get right to it:
Quick Climbs for Fast Times
Just a quick thought- If it’s the fastest time to reach a bear market, what is stopping it from turning into the fastest time to reach a bull market? After the virus issues subside of course. Everything appears to be happening at such a faster pace these days.
— Bill M.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Bill! Now, as time has lost all meaning and distinction since my kids started staying home from school, everything’s passing faster and slower at the same time.
Anyway, here’s the one thing that can prevent an even faster leap back into a bull market: uncertainty. It’s a day trader’s delight but an investor’s kryptonite. We just hit 10% unemployment at the end of a supposed “relief rally” that included a 50% Dow retracement.
If that doesn’t scream “uncertainty” ahead, nothing does.
On Idiots and Followers
We have alot of idiots fallowing the leader of the idiots.
— Tom D.
The best part is that I can’t tell which political, economic or health figure you’re talking about … and yet, I’m still strangely inclined to agree with you, Tom.
Crown Castles Made of Sand
Hello. Some of my most recession resistant stocks: AMT and CCI are holding steady … at least so far. Both also pay dividends.
— Brent J.
I want to hark back to an older email, dated March 17. Back in the thick of March madness, we were talking about crash-proof stocks and how to weather the storm.
Don’t worry, I won’t spoil the rest of your ultra secret picks, Brent! (They’re good dogs, Brent! It’s an old meme, sir, but it checks out.) Though, I see you have the 5G trend covered from the cell tower side of things. And I sure hope you held on — if not added to your position!
Both American Tower Corp. (NYSE: AMT) and Crown Castle International Corp. (NYSE: CCI) have already bounced back to February’s pre-devastation levels. If any of you readers out there timed that rebound, nicely done! If not, you might want to wait for more volatility (and oh, it’s a-comin’) to find a better entry price.
(Not sure where to start with investing in 5G? Click here now!)
Thank you to Bill, Tom, Brent and everyone else who wrote in!
Have you written to us yet? If not, what’s stopping you?! We always look forward to hearing your market takes, stock ideas, rants, raves, recipes, conspiracy theories and whatever else you’ve been cooking up while quarantined.
