I don’t pay much attention to the fandom anymore, just kinda wanna post my queue from last year-earlier this year and take a break but sometimes it’s like. Idc whatever discussion’s happening but I think it would be funny to poke Nightheart with a stick because I like him and he’s so vehemently like the brat I acted like as a teenager. They write angry teenagers pretty okay.

Hi! I adore your analyses.
If it isn't too much to ask, I would love to hear about your general approach to analyzing works. I wanna learn how to analyze things better from other people, and I really like the way you methodically break things down.
In other words, pls sensei teach me your ways HAHAHA
No trouble if you can't, though! Your blog is always a joy.
Have a wonderful day!
Sensei... 🫢
Ah, thank you, this is really flattering! I don't think I really do anything that special. Honestly, all it is was that I got misinterpreted a lot when I was younger and it made it difficult for me to express myself - so I ended up creating something of a system which I found seems to make things clear to others!
I can do a quick overview of it, for sure! I hope it helps! (It's under the cut :D)
Tip 1: Analyze things you love.
Look, this isn't school and I'm not a literary critic. I don't bother forcing myself to analyze things I'm just not feeling. Sometimes, I'll really enjoy something, but have nothing to say about it in particular. (Ex. Akutagawa. I adore him but for some reason don't feel compelled to analyze him as much... even though he's this blog's pfp...) That's not a commentary on the character/media nor my engagement with it. No need to analyze something you don't particularly care to - these write ups take a fair amount of time and effort, so you'll want to have enough raw energy at the start to sustain yourself. You should want to talk about it, is what I'm saying.
Tip 2: Understand the core themes of the story.
I cannot stress this enough! It's so important. The best stories will have their characters, plot arcs and settings all serve to enhance the major themes of the story in some way - figure out what these themes are, and keep them in the back of your mind. I think of themes like a filter - it should change the way you look at the story, and with any luck, draw a lot of seemingly loose threads together in interesting and surprising ways. There are typically about 2-3 major ones (Ex. BSD - living through uncertainty, good as a choice / Trigun - morality and autonomy, life after loss / Hatoful - love as salvation or corruption / there are other themes of course, these are just examples). From this point on, assume you have your "themes filter" active for completing the other tips.
Tip 3: Pick a small detail and think about "Why" and "How".
See, I used to go too big when doing analyses. I used to try and analyze everything there was to examine in one go, and it would become unwieldy and just have far too much information for me to juggle and process. So, it's better to start small. What's something that caught your attention? What was something you liked? Was there anything that confused you? Pick one thing... then ask yourself why and how. Why did I like this? Why did this character act in that way? How does this aspect of the story work? Etc. This will be your topic!
Tip 4: Read other people's thoughts.
I know we all hate going into tags and seeing some of the worst takes out there... so I don't actually do that. I only look through meta and theory tags, and most of those are done by people who put a lot of time and care into their theory crafting, so they at least usually bring the receipts. It always helps to read other's opinions. This is just a good thing in general - you need to open yourself up to different views. Even if you don't agree, you might be better able to articulate why you don't. There's some god-tier stuff in these theory tags, you just gotta look. :)
Tip 5: Pay attention to context and setting.
For most of the stories I analyze, the characters do not exist in a world or situation that is comparable to mine. Asking yourself "where did this character come from?" "what's the overall state of the world they inhabit?" "were this character's experiences different or similar to the rest of the cast? different or similar to their childhoods?" - this is really going to help you understand motivation, far more than core personality traits will alone. (Ex. remember that BSD is a newly post-war society. Tensions are still high. People are being hired at young ages. A lot of people grew up in the slums, and violence is common. How did the different characters interact with this world? What sides might one character have seen to this world that another didn't?)
Also, it's good to at least be somewhat aware of the author and the context they created their story in. Many of the works I analyze are from Japan. It's good to know where a work is from - typically you're going to see at least some expression of cultural values, and I find this is helpful to keep in mind. Some decisions made in story will make a lot more sense when you remember the story's place of origin.
Looking at author influences is also helpful! BSD has a great built-in source of background info, since the entire premise incorporates classic literature. This can be an excellent supplementary source!
Tip 6: Tell a story with your analysis.
Again, I'm doing this for fun. I'm not a literary academic, so I try to use conversational flow. I tend to write like I'm speaking - in fact, this is very much how I talk in real life. It's up to you the tone you set in your writing - just make it something that flows naturally. You can always go back and re-read it if something seems unclear.
What I mean by story is to break your analysis up into chunks. There's no hard and fast rule on how to do this. You can see a clear example of it in my "Dazai Likes People" post, which was long enough that I bolded the sections. It should have a beginning, middle, and end, roughly - beginning where you say what you want to analyze or lead into it somehow, middle (which I typically break up into individual topics), and the end, which honestly is just a rephrasing of the beginning (or sometimes I just leave it out). Sometimes, to break things up I'll add quotes or images that help me with my points; these serve as visual interest so the reader is not faced with a continuous wall of text. Bolding and italicizing key points can also do the trick.
A good way to see if the analysis flows is to see if you can say "so then..." between each paragraph. (Ex. Point 1 -> "so then..." -> Point 2 -> "so then..." -> Point 3, etc.) Each point should flow into the next - I try to make something of a narrative out of it. (It's why the word "so" pops up a lot in my analyses haha.) I'm sorry, I feel like this is the part that's the hardest to explain in a way that's easy to follow. It's mostly practice, really. It's also subjective how you want your analysis to read.
Tip 7: Fact check!
I hate spreading misinformation. Mostly because it's frustrating to have constructed a theory only to get called out that it's based on something misremembered, but also because, as a science student, I'm really mindful of keeping track of my sources. Always have your sources on hand! I spend at least three re-reads of my analyses consulting books, episodes, and manga to ensure that everything I've added is correct. (I might go a bit overboard with it sometimes... I can be a bit paranoid about this...)
And finally, my Golden Rule: ✨Explanation, not Justification!✨
If you have no other takeaway from this post, please remember this! Every character in the story should have their actions be explainable! This does not mean justifiable! Explanation is not just logic, and should always take into account character values, emotions, and situation. This will help prevent analyzing characters only from the perspective of relatability, and is very useful when analyzing antagonists/villains.
Character analysis is always about drawing a throughline between motivation and action. It's not about whether you would do the same, or whether you agree, or whether it is a choice you would forgive.
Everyone has their reasons for doing what they do. This is true in fiction, and it's also true in real life. I try to always keep this in mind.
I hope this was helpful to you, or to anyone who might want to read it!

coming to terms with a vitriolic hatred of cops co-existing with loving certain media that heavily features cops is just about like. knowing how to understand nuance and examining propoganda when you see it. like yeah i love disco elysium and brooklyn 99 makes me happy, but/so i gotta look out for the little ways that this media is primed to make me think about law enforcement in certain ways. jake peralta and kim kitsuragi are not pure little cinnamon roll beacons-- they are characters with (vastly different levels of) depth and stuff to em.
i dont know where exactly im going with this but i think coming to the conclusion that "character is cop so they are then bad" isnt nearly as interesting or even at all correct as "this character is part of an inherently toxic power structure that, even within entirely constructed worlds from the ground up, has its roots in real life oppression and violent actions against marginalized people" don't condemn immediately. examine them.
its like-- how can this element of a character be either reconciled within the narrative or used to create even finer layers of characterization? like kim kitsuragi being a gay cop. in a world where being gay is not explicitly illegal but definitely operates on a "don't ask, don't tell" set of rules. how does he come to terms w that? there's another really good post that goes in finer detail but like. god damn. i am thinking about that really hard right now.

U could do headcanons of idia, azul and Kalim with a fem!s/o who doesn't like her own body because she thinks that she too thicc? Can sfw, nsfw or both. U choose
Ah, anon, you’ve asked for something that I relate to a lot Once imagined Azul reassuring me through these doubts, it was so comforting, hopefully I’ve managed to write this well!
I know it’s hard to believe when these doubts plague our minds, but you’re beautiful ❤️ We’re all beautiful 💗 And lemme tell you, these boys (the whole cast) will love you so deeply, regardless of your looks and struggles. They will do their best to try and help you when brain isn’t being the friendliest ( ◜‿◝ )
Just a small head’s up:  tw // self harm In Kalim’s part. Nothing super intense, but still want to put a warning just in case
There's also some suggestive mentions, but they're small
Let’s begin!
-- -- --
☀️ Kalim Al-Asim 🦂
It takes him some time to notice, but more so because he’s carefully taking note of her behavior after it plants a seed of suspicion and worry in his mind
He wants to make sure his suspicion is right and isn’t assuming wrongly
There are two things that ring the alarm: her attitude towards food, and her (un)willingness to join him in dancing
These are the things he notices quickly due to his proclivity of throwing parties and banquets for anything
At first, he brushes off her relative shyness at the table and how she politely declined his offer to try new dishes cooked that day
I mean, it does shock him a bit, but it’s fine
Around the third time he sees this happen is when he feels unease at the negative answer, the feeling grows bigger as he watches the expressions she makes at the food and how much she’s eating
But he decides not to bring it up, maybe it was all a product of his imagination! Yeah, probably misinterpreted things!
Still, he keeps a close eye on her. He cares a lot for his beloved, wants to make sure everything is fine
Same with dancing. Kalim is a little taken aback by her declining his offer, but it’s fine at first
He tries to approach her again, a little more calm and not as enthusiastic so the spotlight isn’t on her (he sees her discomfort having others’ eyes on her), and of course respects her answer
But seeing her frown lightly while everyone enjoys a nice dance tugs at his heart
“What can I do? How do I ask her? Ah… I just want to help, she looks way more beautiful with her smile!”
He may try to hint at the topic, but does so in such a strange way it gets nowhere
It’s until he sees her pinch at her body or examine her reflection a little too strictly that he confronts her
If Kalim notices her doing any sort of harm, doesn’t matter the severity, he will shed tears and shower her with all his sincere thoughts to try and make her recover her senses
He doesn’t mind that she’s on the thicker side, he loves her just the way she is!
The dorm leader will tell her just how amazing he thinks she is
If she wants to make changes to her routine, exercise more, follow a properly made dietary regimen, he will be with her every step of the way! And more than willing to join her in the routine!
Perfect mood booster when you have to keep trying and restarting tbh
But all that only IF she wants to, if not, that’s totally fine! It’s her decision and he respects it
“[Name], what’s wrong, why are you doing that?” Kalim asked. Turns out the 2nd year came across the girl in the same lonely hall.
The [hair color] flinched at the sudden intrusion breaking her away from her thoughts. “K-Kalim! I, uh, I-!” Her hands tremble, “Did you see…?” A furious, embarrassed blush covers her cheeks.
The dorm leader approaches her slowly, going to hold one of her hands. “[Name], my sunshine… Are you alright? Why have you been holding back on things you love? The food, dancing with me…” Concern filled those round ruby eyes, “Are you struggling with something? Can I help?”
The [ x ] year looked to the ground, she felt ashamed of being caught like this.
“Hey, come on,” The boy spoke gently while entwining his fingers with hers, “It’s okay, you can look at me. I won’t judge.”
“[Name], why were you pinching your body like that?”
There it was, the dreaded question. The girl shifted around and groaned silently from how uncomfortable it felt to have her action pointed out like that.
“Kalim, it’s-”
“No, it’s not fine.” He interrupted her, a stern tone mixed with worry in his voice. “Love, my flower…”
“You’re beautiful!”
His eyes shone with love, worry and were beginning to fill with tears. “Are you having doubts about your looks?! [Name], but you’re the most beautiful out there! You-You stole my heart in under 5 seconds of interacting!!” The emotional boy hugged her, burying his face on the crook of her neck. “Don’t hurt yourself because of that! There’s better ways to deal with this!”
“Kalim, please-”
“No, Love, listen!” He hugged her tighter for a second before separating, hands on her shoulders, “Do you know how many of my family’s customers, friends and business partners are chubby?! Many! And they’re the sweetest people! So cheerful and gentle, and kind! And you’re like them! Beautiful, breathtaking, always lending a hand to those who need, and you welcomed me for me! Not for my fortune, not to take advantage… You love me, and I love you! All of you! You’re-”
“I’m so fortunate to have you in my life, [Name]... You have no idea!” The Asim heir shed a couple tears before placing a tender kiss on his one and only’s lips.
[Color] eyes let droplets fall, allowing the girl to finally shrug away the net of negative thoughts that trapped her mind. She embraced her lover, “Thank you, Kalim… You’re golden” Her voice was muffled by his chest.
“So are you, [Name], the shiniest of all gold.” The boy returned his partner’s hug, placing a kiss on the top of her head.
A mischievous giggle left the white haired male. “Later today, I gotta kiss those pinches better!” Leaning down to her ear, he whispered, “I’ll be waiting for you in Scarabia~” And proceeded to wink once he stood up straight again.
The blush returned to color the girl’s cheeks. “K-Kalim! ...I’ll hold you to that…”
One last bright smile came to the dorm head’s face before dropping off his beloved to her class.
💀 Idia Shroud 💙
Probably the one to take the longest to notice
Mainly because he spends most time in his room, with not many face to face interactions. He does have the most irl conversations with his lover, however
Don’t take it the wrong way, but he welcomes the feeling of not having someone in his room constantly, he missed the feeling of solitude a bit…. But he only tolerates it for two days before feeling like something’s missing, something that made his happiness complete
He may even develop doubts of his own when she keeps refusing to get together
Being with a reclusive boy who sees skinny fem characters with very prominent curves in the media he consumes can be… tough
She knew Idia most definitely had a handful of fictional crushes on these gorgeous characters, couldn’t help but poke and pinch at her jiggly skin wishing it could disappear
At first, he doesn’t mind much that she opts out of his random invitations to hang out in his room after class
But then she begins dodging his floating tablet multiple times
He takes notice of the way she tries to hide herself, he’s familiar with that body language
Baggy clothes, carrying books to cover her front, picking and pulling at her blouse and skirt/shorts/pants
“Is she… hiding from me? Does she… no longer love me?”
His self doubt becomes worse when even Ortho complains about [Name] being avoidant to him
“Where did it go wrong? I-I need to see her!”
This man is shaking where he stands before the door to her room, shaking from being so out in the open to other talkative people and from the anxiety of what may happen once he knocks on the door
However, her being his lover, he’s more than willing to push aside the nerves and bashfulness to have a talk
After she speaks up what’s going on, he’s quick to quell the uncertainty building in her heart and mind
He does expect to be heard and reassured, too! After all, that period of doubts was hard on both of them
Idia can offer cute little messages littered with sparkles and adorable kaomoji to encourage her with any changes she decides to make. Both of them also naturally express their love through text more frequently (stickers come in very handy with this)
Shroud knows the feeling of insecurities, that’s the least thing he wants you to experience in your relationship. He’s a genius when inventing and building things, he will do his best to build a nice, comfortable and healthy environment, a space where feelings can flow freely through your whole relationship
“[N-Name], please open..! It’s me, I-Idia… your... “ He gulped, feeling his stomach churn with tons of doubts (and a little embarrassment due to what he would do next). “Your… hero…” The blush was very visible.
The door opened a crack, a single glossy [color] eye looked at him. “Sorry, Idia, I’m not feeling superb… Can we do this some other day?”
No cheer, no affection tainted her eyes or voice, only misery.
“No!” Shroud cleared his throat, “I mean..! No, I would very much rather we talk now… I have things to speak about. May I come in?”
The [hair color] sighed, “Idia…”
A sudden burst of confidence and bravery lit up his heart. “No, nothing of that ‘Idia...’ stuff, [Name].” Taking a deep breath, he continued: “I can see something’s wrong with you. Preventing any accidental stumbles with my tablet, and even avoiding Ortho.” He fumbled with his fingers, eyes looking elsewhere to avoid their (single eyed) stare. “And… with all this… I’ve developed some doubts of my own… W-What I mean, [Name], is…”
Amber eyes finally locked gaze with the single [color] orb. “I want to help you… I can see you’re trying to hide, hide yourself, I know that slouching and hugging yourself language.” Pale hands reached for the doorknob. “Can we please talk?”
The door closed, making Idia feel a pang in his heart that mimicked the shutting door’s intensity. While the flaming boy processed what happened, clinking metal could be heard from behind the door.
“Come in.” A low voice instructed, door held open. Startled, Idia curiously looked around before slowly stepping in.
“I apologize for making you this worried, for avoiding you so hard… Didn’t consider how you would feel from this treatment.” [Name] stated, hands playing with the hem of her long shirt after closing the door.
It was the dorm leader who signaled her to sit down next to him on the bed. “No, I get that you wanted to isolate yourself to think, I’m guilty of doing that too.”
“Speak when you feel ready.” The Ignihyde student reassured.
Silence carried on for quite a long time. All the while, Idia sneaked glances at his heartthrob, admiring the way her hair looked even when on a bedhead, a hand wandered to brush against her knee and rest on what peeked of her thigh from under the shirt.
“Why… Why would you touch someone like me?” Even the girl was startled by her shaky question, turning to look at her companion with wide eyes and ears red from shame. “I- What I mean- Please just-!”
The boy silenced her with a finger to her lips. “What do you mean? I-I long to touch you, [Name]... You’re so warm and soft… I love hugging you, and having you sit on my lap as we-”
“Play games together.” The couple spoke in unison.
“Even if I suck at them.” The girl added. “You don’t suck, you’re a nice teammate.” The 3rd year refuted.  “Besides, I like coming to your rescue.”
The [ x ] year sat upright, looking at him now. “Idia, love, do you mean it? Do you truly love me even if I’m not… super thin?”
Finally he understood what was happening. “So it was self doubt about her body…” “Of course I mean it, [Name]. When I’m with you, I’m at the most comfortable and can express my emotions and needs with no fear, with reassurance that you also want to cuddle and hold me, that you love me.” His own doubt formulated a question, “...You do love me, right?”
A [skin tone] hand reached to caress his cheek, “Of course I love you, Idia. You’re my hero, aren’t you?” She giggled a little at the term of endearment. “I just… Ugh, it’s gonna sound SO dumb, but… I got a little… jealous of your anime girls…” Her forehead bumped into his shoulder to prevent him from seeing her blush.
The older Shroud snorted lightly, “My my, why was that?”
“Well, don’t you see them?! They’re always skinny with damn big boobs and round butts, and they always look so cute and sexy in anything! I-... I sometimes struggle a lot finding nice clothes that fit me well, and those may not always look super cute…”
“Okay, yeah, the characters look like that, and yes, I have a handful of favorites… But they are fictional,” His arms wrapped around the girl still hiding on his shoulder, “And you are real, very real… Adorable, attractive, amazing. [Name], you’re the person I wish to touch a million different ways. Everything that makes you you… steals my breath away all the time.” The embrace tightened, with the dorm leader nuzzling into the crook of her neck.
[Name] repositioned herself to sit on his lap, kissing all over her boyfriend’s face. “I love you, Idia, I love you so much! You’re the most handsome guy, you’re so cute and intelligent! I’m so lucky to be with you!” The female student said between kisses while the 3rd year smiled tenderly.
“Say, you had doubts too. What were they about?” The curious girl asked.
Idia was snapped to reality, hand coming over to scratch the back of his neck. “Ah… Well, guess you weren’t the only one being jealous of… anime characters…”
“Wait, you were jealous of the 2D guys I like?!”
“And the idols, artists, and all that…” He admitted.
[Name] returned to kiss his face. “Oh no no! Can’t have that! Not when I love my hero with my entire heart and will choose him over any silly little drawing or artist there is!”
The flaming haired teen captured her lips in a kiss, escalating to multiple liplocks varying in intensity, until he eventually carried her to lay her down on the mattress.
A pointed tooth smile slashed before her eyes. “Now, if you allow me, I believe there was an intimacy meter I ranked out a while ago~”
🐙 Azul Ashengrotto 💜
The one who spots it and approaches it the quickest
He allows one day to analyze his observations and obtain more information before talking with her about the issue
Azul passed through the same self doubts and loathing while very young, and with how analytical he grew to be in order to exploit people’s insecurities to strike up deals, he noticed right away
His heart breaks. Why is his darling passing through this? Why didn’t he notice any beginning signs?
“Alright then, what can I do to help her through this?” Is his immediate response to the sadness he feels
He’s more than ready to lend a hand, genuinely. This is his beloved pearl, the one he loves most, he wishes for her torment to be cut short fast
Touches on the subject once he convinces her to share a drink together once Mostro Lounge is closed. It’s just them and their thoughts in the room now
Listens attentively to everything she says
Offers tender words of comfort and firmly states his view of her, his honest feelings
“I know how you feel, I perfectly know how it feels to be disgusted with the way you look… but that can change”
May shed a tear or two as both talk about the topic. Having felt these doubts, hearing the one he cares for think so lowly of herself really hurts
Ashengrotto encourages her to go forth with a new routine if she wishes so, if not, that is absolutely fine. He loves her for who she is, any decision made is fully respected
Does make it clear the path to change isn’t the easiest, but he will be there for her always
Of course he will help her with anything, from preparing meals to selecting “beginner” exercises for a morning workout session
But most importantly, he showers her in all the praise, security and affection for her to learn to love herself truthfully
His office, his shoulder, and his arms are always open for any feelings she wishes to spill and get out
The silence was uncomfortable. [Name] knew Azul wanted to have a serious talk, something in his whole body language and energy told her of it.
She just sipped her [drink] from time to time in order to divert her attention away from her boyfriend.
Clearing his throat, the merman broke the silence: “[Name], dear, I know you’re struggling with something.” The female student became alerted by those words, looking at the grey haired with wide eyes.
“I see my suspicion is right.” Azul moved to sit beside her, “My pearl, please, you know I’m here to listen, to help any way I can.” His gloved hand tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, giving him full view of her beautiful face.
Silence prevailed again as she fumbled with the metallic straw in her glass.
“[Name],” He took her hand now, “Are you feeling negatively about your body?”
It startled her, “H-How did you know, Azul…?” Her voice was barely audible.
His expression became saddened, an upset smile graced his lips. It was his turn to look away for a moment. “Well… you do know I used to be a chubby kid, don’t you? Someone people made fun of.” A kiss was placed on the knuckles of her held hand, “I know the signs, the feeling a little too well… Just observing you for a day was enough for me to draw the conclusion.”
The [hair color] gripped his hand tightly, effectively making him look at her. “A-Azul… I… know I have no right or reason to feel this way, but-”
“No, absolutely not. You have your reasons to feel like this, and I’m more than willing to help you realize they can be overcome.” Octavinelle’s dorn leader interrupted. “Don’t invalidate your emotions, love, we all go through them… If it’s something small or big we’re fretting over, we will only realize once we process them correctly.”
The [dorm] student slid over in the booth to wrap her arms around her partner, nuzzling into his chest. “I… just think… that with your talents and intelligence, your charm and attractiveness… you can do way better than me. I-I don’t understand why you’re with me when surely there are many other better looking people than me, up here on the surface and down in the waters.”
The octomer felt his heart shatter, breath coming in shakily as he listened to her words. This reminded him of how he always feared the twins faking their friendship only to mock him later on.
“I mean, don’t you see? The rolls in my body, how I’m bigger than others… You always look so elegant and gorgeous, people must think I look so sloppy next to you. They must ask themselves how you can be with someone like me…” The nerves at the pit of her stomach made her feel fuzzy as she spoke her next question.
“Are you… with me… because I’m easy to manipulate due to these insecurities?”
That broke his heart even worse than his overblot incident.
“No, of course not!” A sob tore through him, “[Name], you’re my beloved angelfish, my one and only! I love you more than anything!” Ashengrotto buried his face on the luscious locks of [hair color] he adored, tightening his embrace.
“I-... I-I know I’m known to be a-a sneaky, sleazy bastard octopus who uses others, but [Name],” His hands went to lift her head, holding onto her cheeks while her arms remained securely around him. Glistening baby blue locked with glossy [eye color], “I would never in life use you like that.”
Blinking tears away, the girl continued. “Then why are… you…?”
“Because you’re ethereal! [Name], my whole heart is in the palm of your hands!” The 2nd year pressed their foreheads together, still keeping his hands on her cheeks. “You make me feel confident in myself, in what I do, in the future… because I know your love will be here with me, because I know I can always count on you, because you make me look forward to another day.”
Thumbs brushed away little droplets. “You make me genuinely happy and excited to know what the future holds, with your brightness and light, your love and affection, your beautiful smiles and wonderful laughs, your intellect and those random facts of strange information you say at times!” He chuckled a little at that, remembering when you once told him about [obscure thing you love]. “I love feeling your warmth beside me, your body entwined with mine as we share passion, your softness hugging me whenever you embrace me, your smooth lips against mine, your lovely hands holding me when days turn blue, your tender touch when we’re alone… The love in your eyes whenever you look at me.”
Her lips formed a shaky smile, cheeks becoming warm with every compliment. “Oh, Azul… you sweet talker of my dreams~” Both giggled at the comment.
They looked into each other's eyes for a while longer before [Name] finally closed the space between them. Deep and intensely filled with love, their breaths were stolen once they parted, but their eyes returned to look at the one they loved once more.
“Do you wish to speak to a professional about this? I think my mother still has some psych therapy friends that can help.” The dorm head spoke first, still wanting to help his girlfriend as much he could.
It took some time, for she played with the idea a little, before she made up her mind and gave him an answer.
“I will always be here for you, my beautiful pearl, don’t ever doubt that.” They shared one more kiss before he led her back to his room to spend the night.

Steve Rogers: The Man Out Of Time (Steve Rogers x Reader!)
Warning: NONE! FLUFFFFFFF Just Sad Steve and a moment of a nosey Romanoff .
A/N: Love this one to death! Still contemplating on if I should make  a second part.
Summary: After the teams attempt to try and stop Ultron and failing horribly, you all find yourselves at the Barton’s Family farm. Steve is shooken up about his vision, and is  reflecting on the life that he will never have. This was a side of Cap you never  really seen before, he had never been this venerable with anyone. He was the one who held the team together and called everyone out on their bullshit. You find yourself consoling him, possibly blossoming a friendship into something more.
Word Count: 1k+
Tumblr media
“Hey you.” You say standing in the doorway of the Barton’s spare bedroom.
“Hi.” Steve says lowly not looking up at you. He was sitting at the edge of the bed, visibly upset looking down at his already folded hands.
“What happened out there ?” You say referring to the squabble he and Tony had while breaking down wood for Laura. Steve got pretty pissed very quickly, which was kinda unusual for him, since he has always been the level headed one.
“It was nothing, I’m fine.” He sighs not breaking his focused gaze from his hands.
“Oh yeah, I can totally tell you are Steve. Just a typical ray of sunshine.” You say sarcastically hoping to lighten his mood.
The situation with Ultron was spiraling out of control, and that witch bitch only made matters  one-hundred percent worse. From the visions, to the ambush, to the media buzz, you weren’t sure if the avengers would even recover. It was obvious that this new mission to stop Ultron was too much for even the strongest of the bunch, which was understandable, but still alarming.
“Come on.” You sigh leaning against the doorframe crossing your arms trying to examine his face. “You can talk to me, you don’t always have to be the most levelheaded one in the room. And plus I won’t leave you alone unless you tell me what’s up.”
“Now that I can believe.” He huffs out a small chuckle looking up at you, then takes a deep breath. “It’s all just a bit overwhelming.” He admits.
“Yeah I know this all may seem like a lot, but Tony meant well by building Ultron. He—“
“That’s—that’s something we can fix.” He says shaking his head. “I wasn’t, I mean I’m not that worried about Ultron because I have faith we will win that fight.” He says this then looks back down at his hands in his lap. “We just gotta figure out how.”
You sigh as you look at him confused hoping that he’d continue and share his thoughts. You were relived that he was ready to fight Ultron, together, and glad he had faith that the team would win; But if it wasn't Tony creating Ultron that bothered him it was something so much bigger.
It was the vision.
This made you gravely concerned about what he saw, what could be making him react this way, so solemn and hot headed. You walk all the way into the small farm house bedroom and sit next to him on the full sized bed, putting a hand over his own.
“Steve, talk to me.” You encourage him in a soft voice, giving his hand a squeeze.
This was all very knew territory, so you were shocked when he looked up at you through glossy eyes, before opening his mouth to speak again.
“I just can’t get it out of my head. I can’t stop thinking about it.”
“About what Steve? The vision? Because that’s what they want, the twins, Ultron, they want us all to be off our game Steve. None of what you saw was real.” You say reassuring him by caressing your thumb over his hands.
“That’s the problem, it wasn’t real...but it- I’m the man out of time.”
“The man out of time?” You question repeating after him. You frown at the dumb catch phrase everyone seemed to use to describe Steve as. “What did you see?”
“I was with… with, her.” He sighs getting up from his position on the bed and walking over to the window. “It’s this, this whole secret life Bartons been living.” He pushed the cream colored curtains aside slightly gazing out the window. “I just wish that things could be different, that maybe I could… be happy like them.”
It dawned on you finally why he was upset. Steve never got the opportunity to live his life, in his time. He was so busy trying to prove himself or be the person everyone else wanted him to be. When he finally got a chance to show what he was made of— well he obviously got he short end of the stick. And now, well he’s so busy saving the world he’s barley even gotten a chance to live it now. He has told you about Peggy once or twice  and how he fell in one with her, but you never thought he’d be so upset now.
“Steve…” You say not necessarily knowing what to say. You get up from the bed and walk over to him putting a hand on his shoulder. You turn your gaze outside the window to see Laura and Clint cuddle up on their yard, watching their children play.
He lets out a sigh. “That witch, the girl, the vision she gave me. It just felt so real,” He takes a deep breathe and turns to you. “I’ll never have that and the vision, it just made me think of just how much I missed… how much I’m missing.”
You sigh and decide to pull him into a hug immediately. You couldn't even try to pretend to know what he was going through. He doesn’t hug back right away, but in time he does. He rest his chin on the top of your head  and holds you tight taking a deep breath inhaling shakily as you rub circles around his back. The two of you stay like this for a moment, while you gathered the correct words that you wanted to say, without making him feel worse. You hoped he didn’t mind your silence  and  hoped that maybe he needed this quiet and this closeness, just to feel someone was there with him.
After a few more moments you finally speak still holding on to him.
“Steve, you’re not a man out of time, I really hate that saying. It literally makes no sense to me because - not the point. What I am trying to say is you have multiple people here in this time who care about you and want to see the best for you,  myself included.” You finally say as you pull away from him slightly so that you were able to get a good look at his face.” I think I’m the one rooting for you the most.”
It was true, you heavily looked up to Steve, and not just because he was taller or because he was the leader... But because he was truly a good man and always had good intentions.  You would follow him into the trenches if he told you to, that's how much you trusted him and this is why it hurt you to see him so distraught.
You continue to speak. “I love you Steve, I really do, but your problem is you put the needs of others before your own.” You look at him as he looks at you, his blue eyes peering into your own as the wheels in his head begin to turn. You continue, “Honestly tell me, have you ever asked yourself what you wanted and just let yourself have it?”
He’s now looking  at you in shock or confusion, either way his eyes were peering hard into yours as he thinks for a moment.
He frowns and shake his head no, then says, “I guess not… I’ve been so wrapped up in saving the world, I never really got a chance.” He says this with his hands still comfortably wrapped around you.
“Well I think you oughta think about that one mister.” You say giving him a smile and a quick peck on the cheek, about to pull him back in for another hug—
“Oh there you two are.” Natasha says as she peeps her head into the  door way. You both turn to her still very close to one another. Her face goes from flat, too surprised, then back to normal. The two of you let go of each and move apart. You were calm, while Steve looked embarrassed.
“Don't stop on my account love birds.” She says with a smirk.
“ Everything alright Natasha?” Steve says clearing his throat trying to ignore her comment.
The smirk never leaves her face and she shakes her head “Fury is here, meeting in 5.” She says popping her head out just as fast as she popped in.
“Love birds? Jeez you’d think men and women can’t be just friends.” You scoff shaking your head looking at Steve who was turning red.
“Well… that’s Natasha for you.” He says kinda sounding awkward.
You continue, “She’s one to talk, have you seen the eyes her and Banner have been givin each other ? It’s gross.” You laugh.
“Yeah, we better get out there then…” He drifts seeming as if he wants to drop the conversation entirely.
“We should.” You say now feeling uneasy at Steve’s awkwardness, but decide to backtrack quickly before heading out of the room by saying, “ Hey listen, I still want you to think about what you want Steve. Really think about it and then just go for it!” You say emphasizing the word you.
“Thanks for this (Y/n), I think I have somewhat of a idea of what that is now.” He stares at you for a moment more, then looks away. Which surprisingly gave you butterflies because he had never looked at you that way before, it was different.
“Well- that, that  was easy enough.” You fumble on your words before taking a deep breath and gaining your composure. “ Will you share with the class anytime soon?” You say trying to ignore the feeling as your face heats up.
“Maybe later.” He says with a sincere smile. “Sometimes it’s just nice to know I have people here for me.” He shoves his hands in his pocket and nods his head towards the doo. “Let’s go.”
“Of course Steve.” You nod feeling relived, that he was feeling better. You walk towards the door with him close behind. “Maybe we can set you up with a secret farm too.” You chuckle a bit.
“Oh shut up.” He says throwing his head back with a chuckle realizing you were what he needed.
“Do you like goats and stuff?” You laugh.
“(Y/n)!” He chuckles again as you both walk down the hallway into the living room where the meeting was being held.

When you round the corner of the stairs for your art history lecture, you're still fussing over your hair, oddly put together and feeling better than you can remember. Your shoes are a bit stiff from the newness of it all. There is a strangled cry and your head snaps up. Two pairs of round eyes meet yours and you dash over as quiet as you can before Mingyu can make any more fuss.
"Shhhh, shhhhh shhhhut up!" You hiss.
Minghao squints, giving you the once over. "Oh that’s a new one."
You nod and roll your eyes, slumping against the curved window that walled the hallway. There is no grip on your shoes, so you have to stand back straight to save yourself from falling.
"Yes. The Queen Mother deemed my normal, twenty-something look unfit for the potential public eye. Even if I’m only going to class.” You grumble.
You rifle in your bag - the only thing you wouldn't give up - for a stray hair scrunchie. At least she deemed those within fashion, seeing as they didn't strain your hair too much.
Hao crosses his arms. "You obviously don't like it."
The lecturer opens the door and the three of you ease into the theatre, planting yourselves in your usual spot. You shrug, pulling out your stuff.
"No, I’ve told you guys. It's not like that. I liked the stuff I wore before and I like what I'm in now...most of it, anyway. But, it's all just a bit much."
Mingyu knocks your shoulder lightly with a grin. "You're just not used to the royal treatment. Imagine when you get to try on the really fancy stuff."
In retaliation you flick at one of his pens with your own, watching his lips quickly drop into a pout as Mingyu fumbles to catch it back.
“That’s if I even get that far. I can’t even remember my own great grandfather’s name.” You grumble.
There is a collective hiss of the class to be quiet as the lecture starts, attendance being passed up the rows. Your name still fascinates you as you write it on the roll, so innocuous yet in plain sight. How does no one know who you are?
As you head through the campus for lunch with the boys before splitting for your next lectures, you notice that a lot of heads are turning your way. You can’t help but tug at the lapels of your coat, examining your outfit again. None of it was obviously designer - no brands labelled, etc.. The conversations dying at the sight of you. You can’t help but shrink a little into Mingyu’s side, worry turning down your lips.
“Psst.” You hiss up at them. “Is it just me or are people looking?”
Minghao rolls his eyes. “Don't be silly. It’s just you being paranoid.”
Now someone was pointing at you, gesturing to their phone. The food court is no longer as hustle and bustle as before. A lull in noise before erupting into something a little more frantic, like the rising buzz of a beehive. It feels like a beehive too - the honey white paint and low dingy ceiling from the old part of the university buildings. It’s Mingyu’s shout for lunch today - serves him right - so you keep your head in your phone, scrolling through Amaide’s embassy twitter in case anything about your grandmother pops up. All you’re getting though is weird tabloid articles. You jump, almost flinging your phone from your hands when the embassy’s phone number shows up. This early and so suddenly - it can’t be good.
“H-Hello?” You say, cringing Minghao’s way.
When he frowns, you mouth Queen, and he instantly falls quiet.
“Y/n, come to the embassy immediately. We have an escort waiting at the west entry. An issue has arisen.”  Soonhee’s voice is firm and louder than usual.
You stand up, shoving your stuff together, phone pinned to your shoulder. Covering the bottom mic you tell Hao, “gotta go. Royal Emergency.”
He nods. “We’ll talk later.”
You dash out, grabbing your sandwich roll out of Mingyu’s grasp on the way past and jamming it into your backpack for later. Your shoes aren’t gripping the worn brick that lines the pathways of your campus, so you resort to power walking as reasonably as you can.
“Grandma, what’s the matter?” You say breathless.
“Your position has been compromised. We will talk more when you arrive. Hurry.”
She hangs up as quickly as she rang and you swear harshly under your breath at her abruptness. Turning the corner, there is a car parked in a loading zone, flags snapping gently in the breeze.
You tumble in and before you even get a chance to right yourself, the envoy speeds off. The driver doesn’t say a word, so you know it's not Junwoo - that worries you even more. The Queen Mother had put him in charge of you, so why wasn’t he the one picking you up? The car crackles over the round gravel driveway and you spit yourself out as soon as you line up with the door, all sense of propriety out the window. You barely have a chance to settle your posture, reminding yourself of your grandmother’s expectations of arrival when the door flings open to an attendant. He takes your bag, gesturing down the long marble hall.
“Down the end and to the door on the right to the Conference Room, Miss.”
You give him a double take. You’ve never been in that part of the embassy before, unnecessary for your lessons. But you see a series of people rush in and out, phones glued to their ears.
The queen stands at the far end of the oval table, laptops and papers scattered. The screen behind her has a twitter feed up. Wood panelling makes the corporate room deceivingly warm, as does the lemon painting mirroring the tv. From the heavy air condition though, you know better.
“G-Grandma?” You mumble.
She straightens up to stare at you. “Y/n, come.”
“Wh-what’s the matter? Who are these people?”
You take a seat next to her. Junwoo is scanning a manila file, tipping his chin at you in greeting. People, places, numbers. They were looking for someone.
“Amaide Intelligence. But that isn’t your concern. Someone leaked that you are the heir. It’s blown up all over the media.”
You feel as if your stomach drops out of you, sinking and sickly. “When?”
“This morning.”
You think back to not even half an hour ago when it felt like the campus’s eyes were on you - now you know why. But the boys would never spill that kind of secret. You trusted them.
“So, why am I here? Could I not just have gone home?”
You’re feeling exceedingly small and naïve amongst the top secret hustle and bustle around you. Even the queen’s attention is not, for once, fully on you. Tucking a stray strand of grey behind her ear, she glances at you to shake her head.
“No. Not without an escort. You are to stay here for the day until we can find out who has done this. As a matter of safety. See if you can study while you’re here. Or help out if you can.” Dismissive, as usual.
You stand up, tempted to stomp and stalk out the room. Instead, you wait and listen, thinking. If your safety is in danger, therefore so is your family’s. And the boys. You decide to pick up a stray file - Mingyu’s, actually - to see if you can make out what the intelligence team is looking for. But not before sending a message to Mingyu and Minghao to summarise the situation.
It feels like hours of papers and google maps when the door to the room flings open.
“Antoni. Antoni leaked it to The Daily Mail.”
You look up to the unfamiliar voice. A young man with fluffy blonde hair and round cheeks grips a phone in one hand, a scrap of paper in the other. Kwon -
The Queen smiles. “Ah, Soonyoung. Thank goodness. Thank you very much. Junwoo, please call -”
He smiles. “Already did it. He’ll be over at seven.”
Soonhee stands up, hand clasped together. Junwoo is beginning to clean up the files, shutting down computers. You flop your own information closed, sighing in relief. You shoot to your feet though at the glare from the elderly woman, still severe in the dwindling natural light.
“Perfect timing as it is for tea.” Soonhee glides over to the young man, gesturing with a thin hand at you. “Soonyoung, this is the source of all this mess. My granddaughter, Y/n. Y/n, this is Soonyoung, our South Korean ambassador. Very good at his position, as you’ve just seen. A valuable member of your political team.”
He holds his hand out. “Pleasure to meet you!”
You shake firmly, smiling politely. “And you. Tea?”
Which you only offer because your grandmother is staring intently at you. It already feels like another lesson. But with the way he perks up at the mere mention of it, you don’t feel so sour.
“Absolutely!”

Tumblr media
“Y/n noona, your phone is going off again,” Jungkook called from across the room.
“Is someone calling me?” you asked, too occupied at the moment to be able to check yourself.
“No, it looks like text messages,” Jungkook replied. “From your English-speaking friends.”
“I guarantee you that’s Jackson spamming me then,” you said, shaking your head.
“Wouldn’t doubt it,” Namjoon chimed in. “He was just texting me, telling me how he watched the showcase and how cool we are and stuff.”
You finished helping the other staff and walked over to Jungkook, who handed you your phone. You checked your messages while you had a moment to spare.
Jackson: (Y/n) (Y/n)! (Y/NNNNN)!!!! YO NOONA ANSWER ME 😡
Eric: Omg Jackson, I’m pretty sure she’s kinda busy 🙄
Jackson: They’re done with the show though, Namjoon even texted me!
Amber: Dude, that doesn’t mean you should spam the chat 🤣
Jackson: BUT BTS WAS SO AWESOME 😎 (Y/N) THEY WERE AMAZING! NOONAAAAAAAAAAA
Me: OMG I told you not to call me that. But yes, I’m fully aware that they’re awesome and cool and amazing.
Jackson: But you are my noona though
Me: We talk in English. It’s weird! 🤨
Peniel: Noona, why are you being so mean?
Me: Omg not you too… Eric, why did you introduce me to these bozos?
Eric: Hey, last I checked you liked these so-called bozos.
Kevin: Just admit you love us, (Y/n) 🥰
Me: You? Yes. Amber? Definitely. Eric? Sometimes. Jackson and Peniel? Debatable.
Amber: Awwww, I love you too! ❤😘
Kevin: (Y/n)’s Favorites Club application: accepted! 😇
Peniel: I give you my love and this what I get in return? I am offended. 😭
Eric: SOMETIMES?! 😤 Excuse you, who was it who brought you these amazing friends? And if my memory serves me correctly, you couldn’t stop gushing about how much you love my music when we met.
You shook your head, putting your phone away to focus on getting everyone ready to leave. Going to turn around, you got startled at Jungkook standing extremely close to you.
“I wish I understood English so I could tell what you were talking about,” he said.
“Why do you want to know about my private conversations?” you asked as you started gathering your things.
“Because,” the maknae replied, shrugging.
You shot him an unamused look. “’Because’ isn’t an answer. Stop being nosy,” you added teasingly.
Everyone finished getting everything packed up and ready to go and piled into the van, Sejin driving today.
Checking the group chat again once you were all settled in, you weren’t surprised to see that the conversation kept going on for quite a while. You scrolled through to read until the most recent messages.
Kevin: I watched the showcase, too. They really were awesome! Man, I can’t believe I’m going to be missing them on ASC again. 😔
Eric: Sucks to be you~ 😝
Peniel: Okay, but when am I going to get to meet them?
Jackson: Aren’t Sungjae and V buddies? You could ask him for help.
Peniel: Nah, dude. The kid keeps his friends from us as if we’d hurt them or something.
Me: I mean, I’m not entirely sure you WON’T. I know if I was him, I’d be scared of Changsub or Eunkwang embarrassing me to death in front of my friends.
Peniel: I mean… You’re not wrong. Those hyungs are… 🤔 interesting.
Amber: I think we gotta meet (Y/n) first! We still haven’t been able to meet up!
Me: Sorry, can’t help that we’ve been so busy ☹ We had a lot to prepare for their comeback when we got back to Korea.
Kevin: It’s okay, we understand!
Eric: Yeah. Didn’t you say something about some people quitting and you and the other manager needing to pick up some of the work they did?
Me: Ugh. Don’t remind me… The company has few enough employees as it is, that really did a number on us. Especially after us hardly being in the country for two months.
Jackson: Dude, that’s tough. But I know you can do it, noona! 🤩
Peniel: Noona, fighting! 🤗
Me: OMG STOP WITH THE NOONA THING.
Tumblr media
You sat in your desk chair, staring blankly at the computer screen in front of you. You already finished everything you needed to handle today while Sejin and the boys were at a small fan meet. To be honest, you had finished an hour ago but had nothing else to do and so you just sat there, doing practically nothing.
I really need a life, you thought, realizing how bored you were without work to do or the boys around. You opened your phone, looking at the text you sent to the group chat with your other friends, but they must all be busy because no one had replied yet.
Turning to social media, you opened twitter to take a look at what the shipping fans had come up with for you today. You may get on Jin’s case about looking this stuff up, but to be honest you found it quite amusing yourself – which was also a big reason why he kept teasing you about it. He knew you didn’t actually hate it.
Looking through, you saw fans recently examined a still of Hobi with you in it from a Bangtan Bomb, and then a picture of me standing next to Namjoon when you were heading to a schedule.
But it looked like today, the popular ship was with him. You’d been trying to chalk things up to just the fact that you felt at ease with him. You’d been conveniently ignoring the times your heart skipped a beat when he looked at you with his smile, the times you felt heat rush to your cheeks when he hugged you without even thinking about it. But looking at this picture, it was one of those moments when you couldn’t find it in yourself to ignore what those things really meant.
A fan somehow managed to catch a very clear picture of the two of you, smiling at each other and looking really happy (no wonder why it was the popular opinion today). For a little bit, just a few moments, you let yourself believe that what these fans were saying could actually be true. That it wasn’t hopeless for you to have these strong feelings, that maybe it wasn’t impossible for him to feel these things too.
You shook your head to rid yourself of the thoughts quickly. There were so many things wrong with it. He wasn’t just someone you knew or your friend, he was your coworker. And he was an “idol.” It didn’t matter if Bang PD didn’t have anything against them having relationships, or even relationships between his employees, because you were on two completely different levels. It just cold never happen.
Pulling your head out of the daydream, you felt myself feeling sad looking at the picture now. It represented things you could only dream of. Yet, you still couldn’t stop yourself from saving the picture to your phone.
You just barely locked your screen when the door to the office opened and Sejin walked in with Jungkook. “Oh, you guys are back?” you asked.
“Yup, everything went well,” Sejin answered. “How about here? Anything I need to help with?
“Nope, I got everything done,” you replied. “Where are the other boys?”
“The hyungs are all at home,” Jungkook said. “I missed a vocal lesson earlier this week so I am going to that now.”
“Oh, okay. Are you going home after?” you asked.
“Yeah, I don’t have anything else to do other than that,” he said.
“Alright, I’ll wait for you so we can go home together,” you smiled.
“Oh wow, you weren’t kidding when you said you got everything done,” Sejin said. He had been double checking through everything that needed scheduled or checked through to make sure you hadn’t missed anything while you and Jungkook talked. “Thank you, I know the workload has been a bit intense lately.”
“It’s no problem,” you waved him off. “Now that we have the majority of their schedules in place for this comeback it’s not as bad as it was at first.” You stood up and walked over to Jungkook. “I’ll walk with you to your lesson. I could use a change of scenery. See you, oppa!”
After Jungkook’s vocal lesson, you walked out of the company together, both of you wearing masks. After the debacle with your personal pictures with the boys being shared with the fans, you were almost just as recognized by the fans as they were.
While you definitely weren’t treated the same (as in fans squealing and wanting attention from you), you still had to be careful when you were around them. He may be difficult to recognize with a mask, but if a fan recognized you they would most likely assume that the person you were with was one of the boys, and that was exactly what you didn’t want.
“Can we stop by the park before going home today,” Jungkook asked as you walked down the street. “I could use the fresh air and alone time.”
“Yeah, that’s no problem. It’ll be nice after being inside all day,” you replied. “But if you want alone time I could just go home.”
“No, you can stay,” he assured me. “I meant quiet time more than alone.”
“Alright, sounds good,” you said as you approached the nearby park. You walked in silence until Jungkook found a spot he liked and veered off the path to sit down in the grass.
This park was rather small, just a small nature reprieve among the city streets. It was simple with mostly trees and one little flower garden, but it was plenty when you needed to relax a bit.
The two of you sat, just listening to the leaves rustling in the wind for a while. It was Jungkook who broke the silence first.
“Noona?” he asked, almost in a whisper as if he was worried about bursting the bubble created around us.
“Yes, Kookie?” you asked just as quietly.
“Are you still happy you decided to stay working with us?” He stared at his hands sitting in his lap.
“What do you mean?” you tried to look at his face, hoping he’d look up and meet your gaze. “Why are you asking that?”
“It’s just,” he paused, sighing and laying down on the grass to look at the tree branches instead. “People can be really unfair, you know? You had all that trouble with Haewon last year, and now there are fans that are really harsh on you too.”
You knew the hate comments toward you existed, but generally they were far and few between and really easy to ignore so you paid them no mind. You were more concerned about hate directed toward the boys than yourself. “What’s bringing this on, Kookie? Did something happen?”
“I’m glad you weren’t at the meet today. It was really hard to hold back with some of the stuff we heard.”
You leaned back on your elbow to get a little closer to him before saying, “I thought Sejin said the meet went well?”
“It did, for the most part. We ignored the comments and made sure not to make a scene out of anything so it technically went fine. But noona, these fans didn’t know who was with us today. What if you were? It just… it wasn’t right, what they said.”
“Kookie, don’t let it get to you. Some of your fans just genuinely don’t like me, but that’s okay. Others may be jealous because they wish they could be as close to you as I am. And some of them take out that jealousy in anger. That’s okay, too. I don’t let it bother me and you shouldn’t pay any mind to it either, okay? And to answer your first question, yes. I’m still happy. I don’t regret anything I’ve done, especially when it comes to you guys.”
“Really? You’re really okay with all of that?”
“Yes. If that’s the price I need to pay in order to have you all in my life? That is more than worth it.” You lay down next to him, staring up at the same trees. “To be honest, I sometimes wonder where I would be, what I’d be doing if I hadn’t stayed. Or even if I didn’t apply for the job in the first place, if I hadn’t been lucky enough to meet Jin or maybe if I never came to Korea. There’s no way for me to know, but I can’t imagine that I’d be as happy as I am now. You guys mean the world to me and I feel so, so lucky to be able to call myself your friend.”
You turned to look at him, finding his gaze had already fallen on you. While his mask covered most of his face, you could tell from his eyes that he was smiling, and you smiled in return. “All I know is, I have no idea where I would be if I never met you guys, and I don’t want to know. If I were given the choice again, I would always pick to be here with you. Always.”

We’ll actually conclude the book of Nehemiah in tomorrow's reading but for today Nehemiah chapter 11 verse 1 through 12 verse 26.
Commentary:
Okay. So, maybe an underlying question in our read…from our reading from first Corinthians today would be how…how close to the line can we get? Like how close to the line of something that’s questionable can we get before we actually enter into something that's sinful. And that's a question I get asked several times in a year and I typically think, well if you're…I mean if that's the question then probably take some steps backward and reevaluate. But because Paul is talking about this in detail and in specific then we can surmise that this was a question was in the church of Corinth. And in specific it was about eating…eating food that that might've been consecrated to an idol, a false God. So, we can read this kind of stuff and go, man I have never ever, you know, you don't go to the grocery store and think…and ask those questions to yourself when you're picking out your selection to meet. And, so, it's a very, very different culture. And, so, just to have the background here, in the Roman Empire we understand that there's a pantheon of gods, the gods of the Empire. Lots of gods are being worshiped. There are the gods of the Empire and then there is generally freedom to worship whatever you want to worship as long as you have an allegiance to the gods of the Empire. The Jews have the worship of the most-high God, and they were excluded from this and then Christians were excluded from this for a while and then they got in a lot of trouble and a lot of persecution. So, this is kind of right in the thick of this as this is all getting sorted out because how would they go to their meat market, their grocery store, as it were and know the origin of the meat. I mean we might ask the questions today like, is this organically fed, grain fed, like were these happy animals, that kind of stuff. And you can track that information down if you go hard enough after it but a meat market in a cosmopolitan city in the Roman Empire, kinda going around and saying, okay was this sacrificed in a ceremony? And to whom was this sacrificed and when and all of this could get complicated. But the church didn't want to participate in idolatry even passively. And, so, Paul's instructions then were, eat. You don’t have to ask those questions. According to Paul, the earth and everything in it belongs to the Lord. It becomes an issue when it touches somebody else's life in a way that causes them confusion or it becomes a problem when were just looking for a loophole so that we can have 1 foot in the kingdom of God and following Jesus while at the same time honoring other deities, consuming meat that we know was ritually sacrificed to a false God, and honoring that in the process, not passively but actually participating and knowingly doing it.  And, so, this last one that we just talked about, like trying to ride the fence basically to have 1 foot in one place in 1 foot in another place and have the best of both worlds, as it were, Paul's like, and I quote “you cannot drink from the Lord's cop and also from the cup of demons. You cannot eat at the Lord's table and also at the table of demons. Or do we want to make the Lord jealous? Do we think that we are stronger than He?” And, so, that’s pretty clear. You’re not gonna have your foot in Baal worship and in Christ worship at the same time because that’s not how it works. There is only one God, only one, the most-high. And then the issue of, how can you know? Like, if…if…if you're not actively trying to have 2 feet in two different worlds, you really are a follower and a disciple of Jesus, you want to keep yourself pure and so you’re trying to avoid sinning passively by consuming food that may have been consecrated to an idol. Paul's basically like don't worry about that, unless it affects somebody specifically. And he uses an example. Like, what if we’re invited over to a friend’s house who isn't a believer and they actually believe in a different god, and they worship that other god and they sacrifice to that other god, but you are friends, you are associates you’re trying to be the light of the world, you're trying to share the good news of the gospel and you're invited over, then go and don't worry about what's put before you. Eat the food. It's not about the food. It's about the posture of heart. Eat the food. However, if those people who are your friends understand that your religious convictions are different and there's, and in an attempt to honor you, they let you know, like hey, yeah, this steak here, this was sacrificed to, you know, our god. Well then, they're letting you know so that you don't have to break a conviction. Like they’re honoring you in honoring your convictions and allowing you to know that. So rather than going oh, it's no big deal, no problem than honor them back and show allegiance to the Lord because they've made it a point to let you know this. And, so, this is the posture of heart that Paul is instructing the church in Corinth and by way of the letter to Corinth us, how we are supposed to act toward each other, honoring each other while not getting lost in the weeds about things that we can't know or convictions that we do not have. And Paul kind of preempts by giving the follow-up question. And that is, why should my freedom to act be limited by another person's conscience? If I thank God for my food why should anyone criticize me about food for which I give thanks? Which is a super individualistic concept that we should be very familiar with because it's dominant in the world today. Why do…why does what somebody else thinks, why should that affect my life? I should be to live my life without worrying about what everybody else might see or do? And I believe that Paul would argue, yes you are absolutely correct when you are following hard after God. But when you are trying to take the freedom that you found in Christ and exploit it to the point that it's confusing to people who might seek Christ you gotta take a second look, maybe a couple steps back and re-examine the situation. And we can see that, you know, we’re using this specific example. There are all kinds of sets of circumstances. Basically, this is a conversation about gray areas and some words and language to give us insight into the fact that it's not about the gray areas so much. It's about the why. It's about the posture and motivation of our hearts. So, Paul boils this issue down really brilliantly with something that's tangible enough for us to carry around and remember. When we walk into that kind of a scenario and we’re not quite sure how…how…what our decisions, what our choices should be. Paul says, well, whatever you do, whether you eat or drink, do it all for God's glory. Live in such a way as to cause no trouble either to Jews or Gentiles or to the church of God. Paul says just do as I do, I try to please everyone in all that I do, not thinking of my own good, but the good of all, so that they might be saved. That distills down very nicely into a core. Can I do this for God's glory? If that is just a checkpoint that we can insert between the decision and the action. If there’s just that little checkpoint that says, can I do this for God's glory. We might do it anyway, even if the answers like…we might willfully go forward, but we won't be confused. We do have a will and we can make our choices, but that could save us a lot of trouble. And, so, let's consider that as we move through our day.
Prayer:
Jesus, we invite You into that. It's…we’re all wearing masks in this world. And, so, there's situations all the time where it's not always clear how to navigate, but to have this little checkpoint in our lives that says, “well, can I participate for the glory of God in this” really really helps, not only whether or not we should proceed, but if we do proceed, how? How we should proceed. With what posture we should proceed because we understand that we are doing it for Your glory and we are trying to bring honor to Your name in what we do as we are a witness, the light in the situation to reflect Your glory into it. So, come Holy Spirit because we certainly do need help. If we’re paying attention, we…we may be somewhat successful. But if we’re not paying attention, which is a lot of the time, we don't…we don't consider what we’ve done until it's already over and then we’re reflecting back. So, come Holy Spirit. We…we need to change that. We need to think these things through in advance and we need Your help. And, so, we humble ourselves before You and ask for Your help in the name of Jesus. Amen.

He's recovering from surgery for glaucoma and bent over, felt a pain, and is now having some…some disturbances in his vision and fears blindness in that eye. Lord Jesus please rush to him please heal him. We…we ask that…that you…you bring healing to him from the surgery from the glaucoma and restore his vision. Thank you, Jesus for…for doctor, John and let him know how loved he is by our community. Thank you doctor John for all the times that you've called in prayers for…for us and lifted us up and we cherish you. I will be keeping you in prayer. And please let us know how you're doing too and how we can continue to pray for you. And we love you. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.
Hi Daily Audio Bible family this is Renzo in Florida and I just want to pray for Doctor John. Father God I just thank you for everything that you give to us Lord and I just please pray for doctor John and that what he's going through right now God for what…with the glaucoma surgery God I just please pray that what just happened to him as he called in today on the 11th God I just please pray that…I just please pray that…that that vision that was just turned into black and white God would be completely restored, that the surgery go well, that his vision to be completely restored in the name of Jesus. In the name of Jesus, in the name of Jesus. Yes. God please just help him to just be touched by the Holy Spirit and let him be guided in everything he does. And father God I just please pray as he's recovering from that, and I please pray for him to just keep trusting You Lord in everything. And father God please, I want to pray for I think he said Jonathan…I think his name was Jonathan and Bethsaida. But he said they were struggling with COVID. God I just please pray that they're completely hailed in name of Jesus. God You can do all things. You’re the great physician God and You do all things. All things are possible through You. Please heal them. Let them be completely recovered in the name of Jesus. Amen. God bless you guys. You have a blessed rest of your day. Jesus loves you.
Good morning DAB family this is John O'Connor calling from Juba South Sudan. This morning I would like to ask you to join me in praying for my son Steven John. Steven John is my second child but my first son. I have three sons. He's the first one. Steven John has been diagnosed with bipolar and we have seen him go through the phases with severe depression that lasts for quite some time and then the manic phase that is erratic, pressured speech, and poor judgment and, you know, very restless. And we have gone through the phases that families go through when you're…when you have such a thing in the family. We have been filled with shame. We're going through denial. But now I can only call on…on God to help us with my son. So, your prayers are really really important. I have seen what God can do when people in this community pray. So, I need your prayer. And thank you for praying. Have a good day. Bye-bye.
This is God's Life Speaker. Hello DAB family. I was listening on the 12th, and I heard a 16 year old young lady call in to encourage another DABber who's pregnant. And what she pointed out is that, I can't. And then she gave biblical scripture to back that up. Oh yes you can when you lean on God. I can do all things through Christ. And that is just amazing First off. 16-year-old. God bless you sweetheart. May you be speaking life into those around you which I sure…I am sure that you are. I wanted to point out some of the I cants of the Bible. And those would be, I can't, Moses. That's right, he couldn't until he took off his shoes on that holy ground and turned his attention towards that burning bush. Jeremiah, I can't because I'm too young. That's right until you believed that God said that I picked you for this and you will. Gideon, I can't because I'm not. That's right until you put on what God has called you. There are so many I cants. We need to stand for Christ, who He is, what He has called us to do, who He tells us we are and start speaking them out loud, and walking with that scripture exactly like the 16-year-old has blessed us with and reminded us. So may we all take up what is put on us like Nehemiah. Just take the next step. Go in Christ. Meet with Him first and then step it out, walk it out, speak it out. Amen.
Hi DAB family this is Jessica from California. Today I'm calling to leave a message for Kingdom Seeker Daniel. This is regarding your…your check in after not being able to get in to see her son and how your friend said that God is in the know sometimes. And I have to agree with that because I was actually in the position that your sons end. I was on the other side of the wall, and I had a really bad drug problem. I wound up going crazy. I was schizophrenic on meth and I…I went to this lady's house and I thought that these people were creeping on my daughter and all this strange stuff and I entered their home and to make a Long story short I wound up in jail. I was confused. I was lost and that's right where God met me. And if I wouldn't…if I hadn’t of had so much time between…to myself between me and God, you know, with no interference from my family and to realize…to sort it all out mentally then I probably wouldn't be where I am today. Well, this was in 2015 and I'm telling you the Lord delivered me from it all. I lead a normal life. I've been out for three years. I went to a massage therapy school. My whole entire lives changed. All my relationships have been healed because I had that one-on-one time with the Lord. And just trust that the Lord's working and that He can change your son's heart to realize where…where you were there for him and how much you love him. And I just I hope you stay strong. Thank you.

a bunch of fanfic recs from different fandoms
ordered shortest to longest with an exception right at the beginning. Descriptions originally written for my brother so some of the descriptions don’t make a whole lot of sense in the context being presented here.
Muckraker! (https://orphan.black/dat/fic-muckraker-venom/) I don't know precisely how long this is so have it at the top. One of my all time favourite stories, defined how I look at Eddie Brock. Mostly a sort of journalism detective type thing about gentrification. Venom.
Clenched Fists and Battle Cries (https://archiveofourown.org/works/15197111) Very short thing of an angry explosion boy befriending a very small child with a canonically sad backstory that doesn't really come up here. My Hero Academia.
Whiskey, Cigarettes and Outer Space (https://archiveofourown.org/works/5242880) Young Stan Pines and Young Rick Sanchez meet in a bar and talk about shit. That's basically the whole thing but it's written really well. Implied start of a road to romantic relationship. Gravity Falls/Rick and Morty
Dude, Your Sister is Hot (https://archiveofourown.org/works/5245892) Zelda sees Link experimenting with gender and Link lies and says she has a sister, who Zelda then asks out. Trans girl Link as you may have guessed. The Legend of Zelda.
Eraserhead's Number One Fan (https://archiveofourown.org/works/14121309) Eraserhead's supposed to be an underground hero, away from the attention of the media keeping him from doing his job. So how did he get a twitter stan account? My Hero Academia.
No Secrets To Success (https://archiveofourown.org/works/19974307) Kirishima's gonna have to start school a month late, which means he has to study. Fortunately he runs into the top of his future class on the street! Unfortunately he has no interest in being a tutor. Until that is, it's implied he wouldn't be good at tutoring. Because fuck you, he's the best at everything. My Hero Academia.
Responsibility (https://archiveofourown.org/works/12208788/chapters/27727098) Fun stuff here, an abused child experiences family for one night when teachers take him out to dinner. Slightly sad ending but has a sequel (the next entry). My Hero Academia.
Liability (https://archiveofourown.org/works/12652599/chapters/28834710) Out of place length-wise but its the sequel. Things get better. My Hero Academia.
Detective Pony (https://archiveofourown.org/works/2427119/chapters/5371283) I've extolled the virtues of Detective Pony many times I'm sure but I'll do it as many times as I need to. Wonderful character study, stunning examination of stories in general, lots of allusions and literary references, one girl's simultaneously a small town and having a crisis about that fact, so many fucking ponies, one parts in iambic pentameter. It's so good. Please read detective Pony. Homestuck/Pony Pals/ Parks and Rec/The Divine Comedy/others.
The Worst Candlenights Ever (https://archiveofourown.org/works/12792789/chapters/29195202) Sometimes you just gotta ruin your extended family's Christmas. And to do that you need a good date. Flowey is Not A Good Life Coach (https://archiveofourown.org/works/5056333/chapters/11627629) :(. Undertale.
quote love unquote (https://archiveofourown.org/works/12025527/chapters/27220212) This is like, a real slowburn not in terms of the relationship but the plot. It just gives you so much time to intricately learn every ideosyncracy and hangup of these boys so that when shit finally hits the fan it hurts. My Hero Academia.
Chill or Be Chilled (https://archiveofourown.org/works/5387672/chapters/12443822) I'm gonna be honest I haven't read this one yet, the premise/length combo is just so wild I had to send it your way. Undertale.

Partners - Part 9: Meeting Mary
Rating: T
Pairing: DickBabs
Summary:  After investigating some more, Dick and Barbara have finally found out where Mary and her son are hiding. Now, all that's left to do is figuring out a way for Mary to trust them... My DickBabs police officers AU.
You can also read this chapter at AO3 or start from the beginning on my blog
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On their next free weekend, after some more sleuthing, Dick and Barbara made a trip to Snug Cay’s Most Beautiful Hiking Trails. Close by the adjoined parking lot, a couple of rental cabins were scattered along the edge of the woods, not too far from the summer camp at which Mary Wallmer used to work as a counselor in her highschool years.
“It’s actually quite pretty here,” Dick commented when he got out of the car, eyes roaming over the nearly empty parking lot with its big map sign detailing its various hiking trails. Well-marked entries into the woods lining the three sides of the parking lot invited visitors to go for a walk.
“Mhm,” Barbara murmured absent-mindedly, rummaging the backseat of the car for their jackets and backpacks, filled with snacks, bottles of water and a map of the area - props to give them the inconspicuous looks of a couple out for a hike.
She handed Dick his stuff, then put on her own gear.
“Maybe we should consider actually coming here for a hike at another time,” Dick suggested conversationally, while Barbara re-checked the most recent location of Redhorn’s son - product of her latest digital scavenger hunt - with the positions of the cabins on her map.
“You mean when we’re not tracking down a potential witness that could help us topple the entire system of corruption of a city?” Barbara replied drily, packing the map away.
She pointed east, towards the side of the woods that was closer to the bay, “Cabin 7 is over there.”
Hands in his pockets, Dick started to walk leisurely in the direction Barbara had pointed, a cheeky grin on his lips: “I guess that would be more convenient, sure."
Barbara rolled her eyes, then slipped her arm into his: “Let’s sort this thing out first, shall we?”
Dick’s expression lost it’s cheerful air and smoothed into a more serious one.
“Right, let’s go over our approach again:” he agreed, now focussing on the task at hand, while they were heading towards their destination, “We’re a couple that went out for a hike and when we wanted to head home, realized that our car wouldn’t start. Unfortunately, both of our phones don’t have any reception out here so we’re now stuck wandering around, trying to find someone who would let us use their phone.”
He looked at Barbara for confirmation.
The redhead nodded: “Exactly.”
“And you really think that all this deception is necessary? It’s not exactly inspiring trust once we tell her the actual reason why we’re here.”
Barbara let out a sigh.
“I know, I know,” she admitted, deflated, “but I think we won’t be able to get a foot in the door otherwise - everything she thought she knew turned out to be a lie; the person she had trusted the most turned out to be in the thick of the scheming and corruption that’s been ailing Blüdhaven for the longest time… Would you trust a pair of strange cops who claim to have come to help you and contend that they have a plan for bringing down said corrupted system that has permeated seemingly every nook and cranny of the ‘Haven’s society, including the sphere of your own home??”
She let the picture she’d painted hang in the air, then shook her head sadly.
“No,” she said grimly, answering her own question, “I don’t think she’d hear us out if we presented our case to her, straightforward. She’d only grow more terrified and slam the door in our faces…”
“Leaving her more afraid for her life and her son’s without listening to our offer to help them out, most likely causing Mary to try even harder to go into hiding,” Dick supplied, finishing Barbara’s thought.
“Mhm.”
Dick let out a sigh, unable to argue with his girlfriend’s logic: “Fine, initial deception it is… Oh, look,” he exclaimed, pointing to a wooden cabin which was hidden away off-trail, almost entirely concealed by the grouping of fir trees lining the path, “that’s got to be it!”
Barbara consulted the geolocation marker on her phone she had created based on the online activity of Redhorn Jr. (even though the teenager had refrained from posting anything on his social media accounts, he still had been watching YouTube videos via his phone, which Barbara had used to backtrack his and his mother’s whereabouts): “I think you’re right.”
They left the larger path along which the cabins were scattered and followed the narrow trail covered in crushed rocks and fir needles. They discovered the wooden sign marking the wooden cabin at the end of the trail to be number 7; it had been completely obscured by the low, thick branches of the fir trees.
“So this is it?”
“Gotta be - the GPS coordinates match the location at which Redhorn’s son liked a video about three hours ago.”
In the shade of the cabin, Dick noticed a red toyota with a familiar looking license plate: “Hey, that’s Mary’s car, isn’t it?”
Apparently, all their prep hadn’t been for naught: “Yes it is.”
“Alright, so this is it… You ready?”
Barbara took a deep breath, mentally preparing herself for the task at hand.
“I’m ready. You?”
She caught Dick’s eye and saw the determined look on his face.
“As ready as I’ll ever be.”
Together, they climbed up the three stairs to the cabin’s porch and knocked softly at the door.
***
They heard the sound of shuffling of feet behind the door, but no one answered it.
“Hello, is anyone there?” Barbara asked in a tentative voice.
Then, the door opened slightly and revealed a frightened blue eye which nervously examined the two young adults lingering on the porch.
Having discussed during their car ride that it would probably best if she took the lead early on (assuming that Mary would probably perceive a woman as less threatening), it was Barbara who addressed their supposed stranger in a friendly, if slightly embarrassed manner:
“Oh, hi! We’re so sorry to disturb you, but my boyfriend and I just returned from our hike around these parts - only to discover that our car won’t start and neither of us have any reception on our cellphones; may we use your phone to call roadside assistance? That would be incredibly helpful.”
The wary expression on what had been visible of Mary’s face had dissipated by the time Barbara had reached the end of her prepared speech and the door was opened fully now, revealing an unassuming woman of 5’2’’ and stocky build. Her blonde (probably dyed) hair was wavy, about shoulder-length, and framed a round, open face. Faint lines around eyes and mouth indicated her age to be around forty.
“Oh you poor things!” the middle-aged woman exclaimed emphatically, any hint of her previous mistrust completely vanished, “Of course you can use the phone here! Come in!”
And with that, Mary stepped aside, motioning for the two strangers to enter the cabin.
It wasn’t difficult to see how Redhorn had managed to conceal his wrongdoings from his wife for so long - she was downright guileless.
To be honest, Barbara couldn’t help but be surprised that Redhorn’s thugs hadn’t found Mary yet - once they had, it would have been all too easy for them to take a hold of her; it was probably for the best that Mary had sold the house of her deceased parents before she had stumbled upon the evidence of her husband’s criminal activities - this way, she couldn’t seek refuge in her childhood home even if feeling tempted to do so… and Barbara wasn’t all that convinced that Mary was cunning enough to have recognized that as a bad move on her part.
While Barbara was reflecting on the naivety of their potential informant, Dick engaged with Mary in idle small talk, making introductions, thanking her for her kindness and answering the many questions of the talkative and curious woman, such as where they were from and what had led them here?
“We are from Gotham City,” Dick explained, elaborating on the narrative he and Barbara had prepared beforehand (which wasn’t based completely on lies), “We’ve been meaning to take a break from the city for some time and decided to check out the hiking trails of Snug Cay - which definitely deserve their positive reviews online! Too bad our trip had to end with car trouble,” he concluded with a grimace so believable and sympathetic, Barbara would have been convinced of his story if she didn’t know any better. A born performer, indeed.
“Such bad luck!” Mary exclaimed empathetically. “But don’t you worry, we will get this fixed in no time! Let me show you to the phone; I think there should also be some brochures of nearby businesses and a phone book…”
She led Dick and Barbara to a small end table in a semi-secluded corner in the hallway next to the entrance door. Three doors lined the hallway wall; muffled yells of excitement sounded from behind the one closest to them.
“Don’t mind that,” Mary said nervously, giving a strained smile, “my son is not a nature lover such as you two - he prefers to play on his phone or gameboy or whatever it is called.”
“Ah, I’m familiar with the kind,” Dick nodded knowingly, ”I’ve got a teen brother who is very much into gaming.”
He gave Mary one of his disarming smiles:“How old is your son?”
“Thirteen.”
Dick grinned: “Yeah, the wonders of nature don’t particularly score with that demographic.”
Mary let out a laugh, then opened the drawer of the end table that contained the phone book and brochures.
“You should be able to find some number of a road assistance service in here.”
Thinking that it might be for the best to give Dick a little more time to build a rapport with Mary, which hopefully were to improve their chances of being heard out later, Barbara took the stack of papers out of Mary’s hands.
“Thank you so much,” she said warmly to the older woman. Then, after exchanging a meaningful glance with Dick, she motioned at the phone: “I’ll take care of it.”
“Sure thing,” he replied, his expression letting Barbara know he understood her silent message.
“We’ll leave you to make your call,” Mary responded kindly before addressing Dick: “Would you like something to drink, Richard?”
He smiled: “That would be great, thank you.”
***
While she was looking up the name of a local car mechanic (just in case) and pretended to make a call, Barbara could hear the other two engage in a friendly chat with one another.
By the time Barbara made her way back into the main room, she found Dick and Mary sitting in the living room, with Mary comfortably seated on the couch and Dick occupying one of the arm chairs. The blonde woman was grilling Dick about his private life.
“You two make such a gorgeous couple! How did you two meet?”
“Um, we first met each other at work, actually. We got assigned partners.”
“How fortuitous! If you don’t mind me asking, Richard, what do you do for a living?”
“Um,..-”
Barbara could tell that Dick was starting to sweat a little, so she made her move to intervene.
“Ah, there you are!” Mary exclaimed happily when she noticed Barbara return from her ‘phone call’, “Did you get everything sorted out?”
“Oh yes, someone will come over soon.”
“Wonderful!” Mary responded smilingly, “Is there anything else I can do to help, my dear?”
Barbara directed a meaningful at Dick and carefully sat down in the other empty armchair: “Actually, yes, there is one more thing…”
The helpful older woman nodded attentively, ready to help. Barbara felt a little bad for what she was about to do; still, this was in Mary’s best interest as well as theirs.
“You see,” Barbara began, her voice dropping into a hushed tone,”we know about your husband and the social calendars you’ve kept all these years - We think that they could help us with our cause.”
At that, Mary blanched and a panicked look appeared on her face, her eyes nervously flickering over to the door of the room her son was currently occupying.
“We’re not here to hurt you!” Dick was quick to add, ”We can help you, offer you protection - get you and your son far away from the ‘Haven and your husband’s influence, so you guys are safe.”
The poor blindsided woman twitched anxiously, as if she wanted to get up and run, but froze when Barbara moved to get something from the inside of her jacket.
It took Barbara a few seconds to realize what Mary must have suspected.
“Don’t be afraid, I’m not-” she began hastily, before breaking off. She then slowly, carefully, produced her badge and ID from the inside pocket of her jacket, putting them down on the couch table, right in front of Mary. Dick followed her example with equally cautious and measured movements.
“Here,” Barbara gestured at the evidence laid out in front of Mary,”the two of us are officers at the BPD; but we are from Gotham, originally. We have nothing to do with Blüdhaven’s corrupt elite,” she explained calmly, while the older woman’s gaze fluttered nervously between the ID cards on the table and the two officers seated next to her.
“Barbara’s father helped clean up the corrupt police force in Gotham,” Dick further supplied, ”and we want to do the same in the ‘Haven.”
Mary didn’t say anything; the poor woman only looked frightened.
“We have found a few officers who have the same goal,” Dick continued to explain in a composed voice, “and we are now building up a case against all the corrupt politicians and police officials - including your husband.”
Mary winced, her eyes now fixed firmly on her knees.
“It would be very helpful for our case if you could give us those notebooks you’ve kept all these years,” Barbara went on, “regardless of whether you’d be willing to testify against your husband or not.”
“You don’t have to do either of those things, of course,” Dick hastened to reassure Mary, who at last dared to cast a tentative look in his direction, “for now, it is much more important to keep you and your son safe.”
“Exactly,” Barbara nodded fervently. She noticed that Mary seemed marginally calmer than before, appearing to be listening intently.
“We know that your husband has involved some of his people to look for you two,” Dick said gently, ”and frankly, a lot of his cronies have some very worrisome reputations.”
“And this is where we come in,” Barbara jumped in, “I know some people at the FBI who can help you get out of the reach of the criminals that have been running Blüdhaven as of yet.”
She handed Mary two business cards. Clammy hands gripped the cards tightly.
“Here are the contacts of the two agents that can help you. I have worked with them before on a case of corruption in Blüdhaven; they passed the background checks I conducted on them to ensure that they are not connected to any Blüdhaven elite with flying colors - they are trustworthy.”
Mary looked at Barbara with big eyes; the business cards still in a vice grip.
“I… I don’t know-”
Dick gave Mary a reassuring smile: “You don’t have to decide right now.”
“No, but you shouldn’t wait too long,” Barbara warned emphatically, “If we can find you here, it’s only a matter of time until your husband or his cronies will figure out a way to find you, too.”
“I… I don’t know what to do,” the poor woman stammered, distressed. She looked pleadingly from Dick to Barbara, as if waiting for them to tell her what to do.
Of course, that was not what they had come for.
“Ultimately, you will have to decide on your own what is best for you and your son - I know that all of this must be overwhelming and that we’re just two random strangers that appeared out of nowhere,” Dick said sympathetically, “You didn’t ask to get dragged into this, you just want for you and your son to be safe-”
Mary nodded energetically, “Yes!”
“We can’t tell you what to do - You have to be the judge on which course of action you want to take,” Barbara stressed.
Averting her eyes again, Mary only nodded meekly.
“Personally,” Dick mused aloud, causing Mary to look up again “I’d say your safest bet is to call these numbers,” he tapped the business cards Mary was still clutching tightly, “These FBI agents will get the two of you out of here, someplace safe.”
Mary’s lips parted as if wanting to say something - but in the end, she only pressed them together and fiddled nervously with the cards in her hands.
Dick exchanged a telling look with Barbara, who pulled out a burner phone and put it on the table.
“Here, take this,” Barbara said, “there is one number saved in there - it’s to a safe line which only Dick and I can access; it can’t be traced. This way, you will always be able to reach us - if there’s anything you think we can help you with - call that number.”
This gesture seemed to finally have broken the dam. With a trembling hand, Mary reached for the phone, staring at Dick and Barbara with teary eyes.
“Is this real?” Mary asked in a quiet, shaky voice.
“This is real.”
“And… And it’s not a trick?”
Dick gave an encouraging smile: “It’s not a trick. I promise.”
A brief pause followed, then: “Okay.”
***
They went over the particulars again, making sure that Mary would know what to expect when reaching out to Barbara’s contacts at the FBI. Once they had settled everything, Mary brought up the one thing that still remained unresolved:
“And… And the notebooks?”
Barbara cocked her head to the side, a friendly smile on her face: “What do you want to do with them?”
Mary fiddled nervously with the phone in her hands.
“I don’t know, I just- I just want to be rid of them, I suppose,” she said, sounding tired. She sighed deeply.
“You want them, I assume?”
“It would be useful for the case we’re building,” Barbara admitted honestly, “but if you don’t want us to use them in our case, you don’t have to hand them over.”
There was a long pause while Mary was mulling over it.
“No, you should have them,” she mused,”I think that’s why I took them with me in the first place - I knew that they were valuable evidence, I just didn’t know what to do with it… Or maybe I wasn’t ready to admit to myself that - that my husband is a criminal.”
Gently, Dick put a reassuring hand on Mary’s shoulder.
“We’re sorry.”
“No, it’s fine, I’m fine,” Mary said shakily, making a dismissive gesture before getting up from the couch, “I’ll go get them.”
The blonde woman hurried away into the hallway and disappeared behind the door furthest away. Dick and Barbara could hear the clunking of a floor board being moved and scraping noises. Soon after, Mary returned, three small black pocket calendars in hand: “Take them.”
Barbara took the unassuming, but invaluable notebooks and stowed them safely away in her backpack.
She smiled warmly at Mary: “Thank you.”
Suddenly, the other door in the hallway opened and a skinny boy of thirteen shuffled out. “Hey Mom, when’s dinner- who are you guys?”
The teenager stopped short, eyeing the two strangers suspiciously.
“Alex!” Mary exclaimed, jumping up from her seat on the couch. She quickly regained her composure, though: “These are Richard and Barbara, they went hiking in the woods but then had car trouble and no reception - they asked to use the phone to call for some help.”
The teen regarded Dick and Barbara with narrowed eyes. Barbara had the slightest inkling that Alex was by far not as unaware of their precarious situation as his mother might assume.
“I thought I heard some knocking about, like, an hour ago.”
The boy cast a challenging look at the two ‘visitors’, but Dick just countered smoothly: “We had to wait until they could send a mechanic, chatted for a bit and lost track of time.”
As she gathered up their backpacks and jackets, Barbara added: “I’m sure someone from Larry’s should arrive at any minute.”
“Oh yes! You should get going, it would be awful if you missed the mechanic!”
“Yeah… Plus, we wouldn’t want to delay your family dinner any more,” Dick remarked brightly, winking at Alex as the three adults made their way to the front door. The boy seemed to loosen up a little, although his eyes remained alert.
At the door, Barbara seized the opportunity to express her gratitude: “Thank you so much , Mary, you saved our day.”
The older woman blushed.
“Don’t mention it,” she responded humbly, “I’m just glad I could be of service. And… And I'm really glad I got to talk with you two.”
Dick gave an affectionate nod.
“Take care.”
Mary smiled brightly.
“You, too! I hope everything works out well… with your car.”
“Thanks!”
Dick and Barbara said their good-byes and followed the path back to the car, leaving cabin 7 behind. They didn’t exchange a single word on the way back.
Once they had entered the car, Barbara finally looked at Dick, a big smile on her face. She felt dazed and utterly exhilarated at the same time.
“I think… I think we’ve done it?”
She was met with a wide smile that matched her own:
“We’ve done it!”

To be continued... here.

Notes:
Nightwing #71-74: This is entire chapter is very loosely based on this story arc. Basically, Dick learns that some of Blockbuster's goons are trying to get to Mary because of the meticulously kept social calendars she has in her possession and wants to protect her - which leads to a chase to some of Europe's most famous cities (Rome, Paris, and London). For this story I decided that Mary's hiding spot would be less extravagant and instead some place familiar to her, somewhere she had felt safe before. In the comics Dick also tries talking to her in full Nightwing gear, but Mary is too frightened to hear him out; Babs is the one to point out that Dick Grayson might stand a better chance to get to chat with Mary than a masked vigilante - here, Babs gets to intervene a lot sooner (she is more practical and efficient than Dick in that way, I think). While Babs deals with their task at hand in a more pragmatic way, I decided to have Dick be the one who is better at quickly building rapport with Mary - this way, they make the perfect team to get the job done (technical skills/logistics + people skills)
Oh, and I decided to name Mary's son Alex because comicvine states Chief Redhorn' name to be "Francis Alexander", although I can't recall for the life of me where that name ever appeared (the only times I remember Redhorn's first name being mentioned, it was always "Delmore" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

trust fund baby ~ Timothée Chalamet (song drabble) - version 1.0
my masterlist │ my song drabbles
song i used as inspiration: why don't we ~ trust fund baby
words: 1.6K
approximate reading time: about 10 mins
a/n: okay so when brainstorming about this song's lyrics i came up with an idea (this one written below) but as i started writing it, another possible, quite similar situation came to my head and since i couldn't decide which one i liked better, i figured i let you guys decide and wrote both. anyway i'm not an expert in cars and repairing them, so excuse my lack of knowledge please. i hope you still like it though! please leave feedback, it means the absolute world to me. love youu
here's version 2.0, the alternative idea
Tumblr media
"Damn it." Timothée cursed out loud, slamming his palms against the steering wheel.
He couldn't figure out what was wrong or if accidentally he did something that caused the problem, but here he was in the absolute middle of nowhere, all alone with a slightly smoking engine hood.
He had no clue only that something's really bad was going on. He grabbed his phone and opened the browser to search for the closest garage. A minute later he was already dialling the number he had found on the website as he was slowly getting out of the car.
Walking a little further from the vehicle he looked up and down the totally empty road in front of and behind him. As he listened to the ringing coming to his ear, he couldn't help but think what if the car would explode?
"Hello, Dave's Auto Repair," a chirpy, womanish voice answered the call. "How can I help?"
"Uh... I think something in my car engine went wrong," Timothée spoke, trying to sound less amateurish.
"What are you experiencing?"
"The car started kinda twitching so I pulled off the road and now there's a bit of smoke coming out of the hood," he turned back towards his car with knitted eyebrows, his eyes searching for any new happening.
"Alright, where are you?" The woman on the other side asked and he swiftly gathered all information he could give her about his whereabouts.
She reassured him that soon a breakdown truck would come and pick him up and pull his car to the garage where they would repair it. Hanging up the call Timothée let out a relieved sigh, already feeling less stressed even though his vehicle was still in a quite bad condition.
Thank God I'm not in a hurry, he thought as he slowly sank to a sitting position on the ground, unlocking his phone to spend the rest of his waiting scrolling through social media.
About twenty minutes later he heard the familiar sound of a car approaching and glancing up he was glad to notice it to be the thing he wanted to see. He got up to walk back to his car, leaving the space in front of his car free. The breakdown truck slowly reached him and pulled over in the spot he was previously sitting at. Timothée stepped forward just as the door opened, a figure jumping out.
"Hi, I'm (y/n), from Dave's Auto Repair," (y/n) walked closer, pointing back over her shoulder to the large stickers on the side of the truck behind her advertising the mentioned company, a toolbox swinging in her other hand. "You called for us, right?"
"Ye-yeah," Timothée muttered, eyes slightly widened. "I'm Timmy. I mean, Timothée."
This was not what he was expecting to happen. In his mind he was waiting for a beefy, older man, not a girl around his age. Her (y/h/c) hair was pulled back into a quite messy ponytail, baby hairs that weren't long enough to stay with the others framing her beautiful face that was covered in small, smeared oil-spots. No makeup was on her face but she without a doubt was still the prettiest girl he had ever seen.
(y/n) placed the toolbox in her left hand before wiping the now free right in her stained, blue overalls before holding it out towards him, a playful glance in her eyes as she watched his slight suffering. He immediately reached out to shake the held out hand, wondering about how could this girl keep her palm and fingers so soft whilst working such a job.
"Okay, let's see this rowdy engine," she giggled, bypassing him. She put the box down next to her feet and had the engine hood open, half disappearing in it in no second.
Timothée paced up and down behind her, trying hard to not be a nusiance as he examined the process. The thoughts were racing in his head no matter how hard he tried to stop them. This girl was the absolute dream girl for him. All his life he was saying that he was waiting for a girl who could take care of things herself, whether it's changing a lightbulb or repairing a car.
And now here she was in front of him. He had to pinch himself to make sure it wasn't a dream.
(y/n) examined the car for only less than a minute, recognising the common problem swiftly. She could feel his eyes on her back all the time she was working, and she hated to admit but it made her flustered. The first glance she casted on him she felt a strange attraction, like a magnet that pulled her towards the boy.
It was hard to concentrate on the work in front of her but she resisted the urge to turn her eyes towards Timothée every other second and shut her mind as good as she could, focusing solely on the engine.
Not much later she straightened her back with a sigh, climbing out while (unsuccessfully) cleaning her palms in her workwear, closing the hood behind her. With a quick glance at her bottom she made sure it wasn't dirty and opening the door she sat in his car. She started the engine and smiled happily when she heard the satisfying growling of it, and after fully rolling down the window she stuck her head out.
"Can I go a bit with it?"
Timothée nodded, completely astonished and watched as she drove past him and the service truck, speeding off into the distance. It felt weird to let a complete stranger just drive away with his car, but all her stuff was here beside him and somehow he trusted her enough to remain calm. It was part of her job.
A couple minutes later the shrinking image of his car started growing again, signalling that she was coming back to him. Turning the car carefully around (y/n) came to a stop at the exact same spot the car was standing at, shutting the engine off and getting of.
"We're done," she stretched her back.
"Already?" Timothée replied, and even though he tried hard to fight back the disappointed tone of his voice, it was useless.
"Yeah," (y/n) chuckled, moving her shoulders in a shrugging motion. "It wasn't such a serious problem, and it's quite common actually. I'm used to having to solve it."
"It wasn't serious? It was smoking!"
"Don't let the facade fool you."
"Never again," he muttered, though he meant quite a different thing. All he could think about was how acutely the appearance of the girl fooled him when she got out of her car.
In the meantime (y/n) placed all the equipment she used back in the toolbox and brought it back to the truck, swinging it into the passenger's seat.
"How much is it?" Timothée followed her, pulling out his wallet from the back pocket of his jeans.
The girl rapidly calculated the fare in her mind, announcing it to the boy, but when she glanced at the amount of money he placed in her palm, she had to rethink the situation, thinking she'd said the wrong number.
"It's... it's a lot more," (y/n) frowned, looking up into his green eyes in confusion.
"I know," he giggled and shrugged, visibly blushing. He glanced down at the ground, trying to hide his fluster.
"Oh, wow."
The young girl never felt more speechless in her entire life. This man randomly gave her about twice the price of what she worked for. What should she say? A simple thank you didn't seem enough.
"I mean, thank you, that's very generous of you."
"You deserve it. You came here to the middle of nowhere in no time," Timothée held his arms out, pointing around the two of them. "And you repaired my car in no time. It's quite out of the common."
(y/n) felt the blood rush to her cheeks hearing the compliment. Not one customer had ever talked to her like this before.
"But, you know, it still wasn't perfect," the boy spoke up again, slightly cringing by his straightforwardness. The girl looked up, curiously waiting what he would say, a little scared to hear a possible mistake she made. "You could still fix it, though."
The small pause wasn't meant to increase the nervous tension in the air as it eventually did, Timothée just had to take another deep and shaky breath before speaking the final words out, ready for rejection.
"How?" (y/n) couldn't take it anymore, her rusty voice breaking the silence. Her father would kill her if she had made a noticeable mistake.
"If I can take you out for dinner sometime."
She thought she heard wrong. Was this boy truly flirting with her so slyly?
"I mean, of course you don't have to, no pressure, really, I would just like to get know you more," he rambled on in embarrassment.
"Hey, hey, shh!" (y/n) silenced him, placing a hand against his shoulder. "I'd love to."
This time it was Timothée who thought he had misheard the outspoken words, but seeing the wide, cheery smile on her face he convinced himself that it was actually her answer without a doubt.
"Amazing!" He exclaimed.
"Give me your phone, I'll put in my number and then we can arrange the time and place," she held out her hand, a little surprised at herself and how she confidently lead the situation unlikely to her natural behaviour.
Within a minute she had finished it and even sent herself a text so she could have his number as well, placing the device back in the boy's hand.
"Okay, then, I gotta go now, my shift's still going." (y/n) spoke. "See you later, I guess."
"Yeah, see you!" Timothée answered, still mesmerized by the girl and how his plan to ask her out succeeded.
He was still standing in the middle of the road when she started the truck and turning around drove off, his phone in his hand, eyes wide and joyful.

Hey I've been following you for a long while and at this point I'm just gonna ask so I have some context with your reblogs, what is the untamed about? I don't get any of it but I don't wanna unfollow so maybe if I can be like "oh yeah it's those men in wigs doing x again" it'll be less confusing before I scroll on. Also happy new year!!
!!!!! oh, hi! Happy New Year! I really.... need to actually start tagging stuff..........
It’s. My latest hyperfixation/obsession. I’m sorry that I’ve been spamming... Honestly, I had the same thing going on, seeing all these gifs of pretty people on my dash and being like “what is going on, I gotta know”. Let me see if I can give you a brief summary. The good news is that it’s on Netflix if you’re curious or interested, and I believe there are a few sites you can find it streaming free, too, if you don’t have access to an account.
Meta stuff first: The Untamed is a Chinese period fantasy drama that came out in 2019. It’s 50 episodes long and is based on a Chinese online boy-love novel called Mo Dao Zu Shi, often translated as “Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation” or “Founder of Daibolism.” There’s also a manhua (manga) and a donghua (anime/cartoon) that are both ongoing and, unlike The Untamed, don’t censor the explicit romantic relationship between the main male lead and the secondary male lead. Or, at least, the manhua doesn’t. Given the donghua is ongoing, it’s a lot harder to tell whether or not that’ll end up explicit or just as heavily implied as The Untamed.
Plot wise, The Untamed follows the story of Wei Wuxian’s life, death, and return. The first two episodes are a bit confusing because you wind up dropped in the middle of things without very much context, beginning with a scene of Wei Wuxian’s death and then jumping forward in time to when another man, Mo Xuanyu, sacrifices himself in order to bring him back to life, so that Wei Wuxian might take revenge upon Mo Xuanyu’s family. The reason he opted to bring Wei Wuxian back is because Wei Wuxian is the scourge of the cultivation world.
(Cultivation is a path of magic and supernatural study by which someone cultivates their own spiritual energy in order to, ultimately, ascend to immortality. Cultivators do a lot of ghost hunting and monster slaying as well, making sure that spirits and souls are laid to rest. I do not know a whole lot about all of this because I am not Chinese and very new to Chinese media, so this is a very rough outline, but the important thing to know is that they’re sort of magicians and they take care of supernatural stuff. There are various sects that pursue specific specialties and paths of cultivation, and there’s a LOT of political intrigue going on as well.)
After the first couple of episodes, there begins an extended flashback to the years shortly before Wei Wuxian died to show how he went from one of the greatest and most admired cultivators of his generation to the most reviled. When things finally jump back to the present, the rest of the show focuses on the mystery set up in the first couple of episodes and Wei Wuxian rebuilding his relationships with the various people he loved in his former life, as well as--ultimately--clearing his name.
There’s a lot of political intrigue, drama, humor, romance, and tragedy. The show examines some serious themes of good vs. bad, how the actions of a person reflect upon those around them regardless of intention, how people can become trapped by the society around them, what does it mean to sacrifice, whether the ends justify the means. Despite all of that, the show DOES end on a hopeful, if somewhat bittersweet note, and even though the explicit gayness is censored, there’s more than enough to be like ‘oh, yeah, okay you two,’ about it, and neither of the couple are shoe-horned off into some forced heterosexual marriage in order to make it clear that they’re not gay or anything like that, which is nice. Plus I basically refer to the set up and beginning as “Unbury Your Gays” given that the first ten minutes or so involve Wei Wuxian coming back to life. Because I think I’m funny.
It’s a beautifully filmed series, so many of the actors are drop dead gorgeous, the plot is engaging, the soundtrack is to die for, and I drool over the costumes. Basically, highly recommend. It’s not without it’s problems (the women characters are few but kick-ass, but also most of them die), and there’s definitely some triggering stuff in there--death, dismemberment, self-harm, suicide, and incest, and probably more that I’m not able to remember, so if you do watch it and any of those are triggers, proceed with caution.
But in general, I HIGHLY recommend it. I found a whole new sub-genre of fantasy that I never knew about! I’m telling myself I’m not going to learn Mandarin but I’m probably going to break soon.
Also, I’m really flattered that you actually asked me because you like my chaotic blog so much instead of just being like ‘meh, guess it’s time to unfollow.’ OTL Thank you.

Hi 🌸 I hope Skam France is being fun enough while Skam España is on hiatus. 😪
Cris Soto or Jo Valencia?
Cris.
Joana Bianchi or Elliot Demaury?
I’m afraid I just never found Eliott interesting. I think there’s a sort of... forced cuteness to the way the character is written (the animal stuff is a bit too much for me I gotta say) and the way Maxence plays him. I think he might bring that energy to the role to seem younger. 🤔 I wouldn’t say I’ve fallen in love with Joana (certainly not the way I’ve done with David for one), but I feel for her a lot. I worry when she posts angsty art and I’m happy and relieved when she’s doing well and smiling. I really enjoyed all the social media content in s3 where she was happy and goofing off with Cris. All the ~just platonic friend sleeovers~ lmao. This question made me realize how much I miss Joana and want to see what she’s up to in s4. Like maybe she got that job! (But if Skam España incorporates the covid19 crisis to the storyline, probably not, oops.) Anyway, love Joana’s edgelord ass.
Yousef Acar or Mohammed Razzouk?
They’re both really great characters who also happen to suffer a bit from rushed/wtf writing. In Yousef’s case, if you examine his reasons for leaving Islam a bit closely, it kind of falls apart a bit. Like, couldn’t he have talked to his friends instead of assuming things went a certain way? That kind of faulty communication is fine for a bit of drama, not for a major life decision like religion. 💀
When it comes to Mohammed, I feel like the writers made him a bit too short tempered and impatient to justify delaying the resolution until Amira’s 7th ep. There were a bunch of Mohammed/Amira scenes where I got a bit too stressed because I felt he was being a bit of a dick to her. But idk, I feel like it would’ve been a more interesting story choice if Mohammed had laid his reasons on the table from the start and Amira had to decide whether that was something she could live with in a relationship. I also feel it would’ve led to more interesting conversations not just between the two of them, but also between Amira and other characters (like Omar, Essam, Nadia, maybe even Erwa or Safaa or, you know, her friends!). All in all, I’m going to say Yousef, because I feel like he got to talk about his reasons and decision in more depth than Mohammed, even if those reasons were, like... dumb.

Somebunny's in the Holiday Spirit
Share-a-Lair 03
Okay... If you’re not here for Thunderbolt, I fear that I have wasted your time for a couple of chapters and I sincerely apologize, because it looks like that’s the bulk of what is happening here. We’ll see a little Hensper sprinkled in, but Thunderbolt has taken over both my life and more directly, this story. So, Thunderbolt Thots Assemble! @adorkable-blackgirl @chenoahchantel @kiddangers (This is a Christmas chapter that i didn’t finish until today. Hopefully the NYE one won’t take as long.
Charlotte had gifts, decorations, and stockings in the trunk of her car. She pulled into the driveway near the tower entrance and texted Henry to meet her outside and help her with boxes. Max had already sent an email to their lab that under no circumstances were they to do anything "Chrismasy" in the shared space.
After being approved as a guest, Charlotte tried to be mindful of the roommate's wishes. Henry and Jasper were on the "we pay rent here too" side of the issue. Neither of them actually DID pay rent, really. Jasper's checks came from Junk N Stuff, and didn’t go into this place ever, at all. Meanwhile Charlotte received 2 checks - one from Junk N Stuff and one from S.A.L. Inc… because whenever she worked from the lab in the shared lair, she got a check for that. Share a Lair was a little bit more organized than the Man Cave. Henry was making Kid Danger money, but his rent was paid in successful missions by S.A.L. Inc.
Share A Lair was to help heroes get out on their own, so as long as they were working, they had a place to stay, basically for free. If they worked like Max did… nearly everything was free. Max hadn't had to foot a bill of any sort since he was there.
Charlotte tried to explain to Henry that if he had a different roommate, some of their amenities might skip at times. In essence, to be grateful that Max Thunderman was his roommate, because Max always had high end assignments and those meant more resources in the lair and less that Henry had to contribute to the lair.
The least they could do was respect his wishes about shared space. So, she kept the decorations limited to the tower and Henry's lab. But, she also didn't want to leave him out completely. After everything was set up, she went to the shared space with one of her hand made Christmas stockings and a gift, which she wrapped and labeled “From Your Lairmates,” then simply left outside of the door to his section of the house. She turned around and almost bumped into Max, but he stopped her with his hands on her arms and she yelped in surprise. He smiled and let go of her. “What are you doing sneaking around my lair?” He wasn’t in his uniform, but she could tell that he had been working. He had a certain “after mission” look to him. Kinda sweaty and tired, but skin still glowing and hair probably made perfect again immediately following battle.
She huffed out a breath and said, “I was leaving your stocking and present that we got you.”
“We, or you?” He wondered, reaching down on the floor for the items.
“I mean, I’m the one who actually physically knitted and filled the stocking and shopped for and wrapped the gift, but it’s from the three of us.”
“You're the only one who works, of the three,” he noted. She was going to debate that, but he had a point, and he started talking again anyway, “Well, I’m not really a Christmas kinda guy. I do stuff with my family, for their benefit, and that’s about it, but thanks anyway.” He tried to hand her back the gifts, but she stepped back to avoid them.
“You touched it last. Yours now,” she said and headed back for the tower. Max rolled his eyes, sighed and watched her leave. He went into his chambers, secretly giddy and curious what she’d gotten him. He did a little dance as soon as she was out of sight and rocked his head from side to side in excitement.
First off, inside of the stocking were some very nice mini hair supplies - organic stuff with honey, lavender and vanilla. She complimented his hair a few times and he noticed that she had began following all of his social media platforms and often liked photos where he knew that his swoosh was IT.
Then, there were a few gadgets that he wasn’t familiar with and he wondered if she maybe made them herself. 1. A flexible compact mirror that could attach to your hand to be held in your palm without actually holding it - it bent with the movements of his hand, but returned to a flat surface when he looked at himself again. 2.  A device that claimed to be a patch that helped glands with odor… He didn’t know how he felt about THAT, but he was a heavy sweater and tended to get smelly easily when he had to fight, so she’d probably gotten a whiff of that a time or two in the past few weeks. That troubled him. He’d have to be sure to be fresh and clean whenever he saw her next. In fact, he sniffed his arm pit and grunted. WHY? Maybe it WAS his glands. 3. A safety detector. This one claimed to be able to program up to a dozen people’s vitals into it and always be able to check and see that they were okay. He smiled. That could be a HUGE comfort while he was away on missions… But also… She had treats in there! He effing LOVED treats.
Fudge square Rudolph, snowflake shaped peppermint bark, large snowman sugar cookie, chocolate Black santa cupcake… They were goofy, but wound up being super delicious. He felt bad, not because he stuffed his face and went into the kitchen after his shower to gorge himself on every treat that he could find in the place.. He KNEW that she’d been the one to do all of this and he hadn’t even considered getting any of them anything…
.
Max rushed into his parents' house and jetted by Phoebe and their parents on the couch.
"Well, hello to you too!" Phoebe teased.
"Can it, Pheebs. I've gotta find a Christmas present for my… roommate's assistant…" he heard himself as he said it and knew it sounded silly. He went into the lair in the basement, anyway. Phoebe followed.
"So… finally ready to admit that you've got a crush on Charlotte?" She teased.
"What? Never. I'm just pressed for time and was given a gift last night."
"What was the gift?" Phoebe wondered.
"I don't know, Phoebe. Christmas hasn't happened yet." He opened a vault and grabbed out a bunny, "Oh! What about this? A woman would like this, right?"
"A stuffed bunny? I guess. Not necessarily for Christmas, but…"
"This isn't a stuffed bunny. Know what, I don't need your help. You don't even know her."
"Excuse me? We met for coffee three times since I saw her at your place."
He set the bunny down and tried to look casual. "She say anything about me?"
"That you're a cocky know-it-all." He frowned and picked the bunny back up, "I don't have time for this. I need to make adjustments on this thing and make it more suitable for her."
"Good luck with your crush!" She cheered as he made his exit.
"Good luck with your pores!" He called back.
She gasped and touched her face, then said, "He's psyching you out. Your pores are excellent."
.
This was Henry's first Christmas out of his parents' house. The tree that he and Jasper put up and decorated had only a few gifts under them that they opened on Christmas morning. The three friends were opening things whenever Charlotte heard the call beep from the two way lab screen and went to answer it.
Max was there, with bedhead… though she couldn’t tell if that was natural or forced. Still extremely cute, though. “Merry Christmas, Max!” She cheered. He fought a smile. She was SO STINKIN’ CUTE in an elf suit onesie, with a hat and brown elf ears, holiday paint on her face, and red and green glitter in her hair. She watched him curiously as he stared at her, then when her smile began to awkwardly fade, he remembered where he was.
“Hey. I’m gonna send your gift through the chute,” he said.
“Oh, you didn’t have to rush some gift. We didn’t get you something so that you could get us something.”
“I didn’t get “us” something, I’m giving you something. It’s coming through the chute,” he repeated and pressed the button. Charlotte opened the chute and it was a large plastic chest with padding and a wrapped present inside of it. She opened the chest and got the box out. “Wanna open at the same time?” Max wondered.
She looked up and saw that he had the present that she left for him. She was surprised that he hadn’t opened it yet and just hoped that whatever he got her wasn’t going to put what she got him to shame. She nodded and they both tore into their presents, like little kids, smiling and then taking a moment to examine what they were looking at. “OH MY GOD!” She squealed. “Is this one of your ingenious gadgets?” she wondered.
Henry and Jasper came over to investigate as Max proudly answered, “Yeah. It’s not exactly new, but I thought that you could appreciate it. I call it the Productivity Pet. It’s basically like a little minion, to help you complete your tasks, since you’re the only person over there that ever actually does any work.”
Henry scoffed, “I do work! I do superhero work!” He said.
He was ignored. “Awww, Thanks, Max! Well… Hopefully, you don’t hate what I got you, then. You’re not very easy to shop for, because as far as I know, you either have or create everything that you could possibly need! But, I didn’t find any indication that you had one of these bad boys.”
“It looks like a mini food replicator?” He tried guessing.
“Accurate!” she cheered, “Well, sort of. It’s a portable auto snacker with about a thousand desserts programmed into it. I heard you liked sweets.”
“Where’d you hear that?” Max asked, only slightly distracted from the fact that he was about to eat about 50 lbs of sweets from that thing, “And also, did you use this to make the desserts that were in my stocking?”
“I didn’t, but you can bet that I programmed the recipes into it.”
He hugged it to his chest, “I’m not sure why I HAVEN’T made myself one of these!”
“Happy Christmas, Max!” Jasper cheered.
Max winced a smile and said, “You too.”
Charlotte picked up her Productivity Pet, which was in the form of a brown bunny with a puffy tail and grabbed the instructions. She forgot to shut off the screen, mainly because Max usually did that, and so he watched her go with her friends and study her gift. He heard Henry ask her, “Why didn’t he get US a present?”
“You’ll have to ask him,” she said, but she couldn’t stop smiling. Max annoyed her at times, being cocky and kinda rude, but she now thought that there was someone softer in there. She had no idea that he was having trouble leaving the screen, because he could still see her admiring her gift across the room.
.
Charlotte had gotten jewelry from Jasper, some e book collections from Henry, a ton of great stuff from her family, a weird hat from Schwoz, and a photo of Ray from Ray. The only thing that she was actively using was the Productivity Pet, which she had began calling Penelope. She also had given her bunny clothes that she made, programmed a ton of stuff into her database and carried her around in a small pet carrier. Henry and Jasper made fun of her for it, but this bunny was one of the best things to ever happen to her. She was basically a little smart device that looked like a bunny! And Charlotte was able to put her in little flower crowns and do numerous things with her. She was a diffuser, an ambient light, a calendar, could make calls, download media - Charlotte had her reading the books that Henry bought her as she worked. She could access all of Charlotte’s social media, AND she was a projector, so Charlotte could use her in a similar fashion as the Whiz Watch.
She was on Henry’s couch with Penelope on her lap, reading her a story, while she worked on some homework for one of her courses and waited on Henry to return from an assignment when she heard moving around in Max’s lab. They must've left the comm open on the 2 way caller.
Who knows how much power was probably wasted? She went to turn it off, with her bunny tucked cozily beneath her arm like a pillow, and saw that Max had two bunnies of his own, moving around in the lab. That probably was NOT safe. She was going to press the emergency button to alert him, but he came in before she could and fussed, "Colosso! Balfour! What are you two doing here?"
"What did you do with Bunny Clyde?" One of the rabbits asked.
"Ugh. I gave her away. She was just sitting in a vault anyway."
"You think I hadn't been in and out of that vault?" The one called Colosso asked.
"You broke up a happy home!" The one called Balfour fussed.
"This is SO weird." Charlotte said, and they turned to look at her.
"Oh God,"Max said.
"Bunny Clyde!" The rabbits cheered.
"Sorry. Ignore this! I mean, ignore what? There are no bunnies!" Max said and turned off the screen.
"And it got weirder." She pressed her luck and went to his lab, where he was vigorously fussing with two rabbits while she waited for access. Nobody just walked in there. What if there were protocols in place? He sighed and granted her entry.
"Hey.. How many of these do you have?" She wondered.
"We are not the same!" Colosso said, indignantly. "But, she is the only lady bunny that I ever get to see."
"She's not REAL, Dr. Colosso!" Max said, exhausted.
"Wait.. these are REAL RABBITS???" Charlotte asked, wide eyes and super intrigued. "Did you TEACH them to talk, or was a device involved?"
God, he wished he could take credit for this. But, he couldn't, and anyways, Balfour said, "We were humans. We're now imprisoned in bunny bodies by The Thundermans and this one, the WORSE Thunderman of all, took away our Bunny Clyde to give to his stupid new crush."
"Hey!" Charlotte and Max both said. But next she said, "I'm not stupid," while Max had said, "She's not my crush!" Then they looked at each other and said, "Or what he/she said."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. The LEAST you could do is set up playdates!" Colosso insisted.
"Okay… I guess my fake bunny could have playdates with your real bunnies that are actually villains is bunny body prisons. Starting now. I need… a strong tea." She handed Penelope to Max and left the lab.
"Ugh. Look what you've done. She thinks we're weirdos!" Max complained.
"Who needs her?" Colosso asked. Max just fumed and sat Penelope down on the table. She was still reading Charlotte's story.
Whenever Charlotte came back to get her, Max explained, "He gets lonely and used to have stuffed animal friends sometimes. I made her to help him out, but whenever he got his son, I figured that he didn't need her anymore."
"I understand if you need to keep her," she lied.
"No. She's yours now…"
"Oh thank God, she is literally the best gift that I've ever gotten!" She cheered, accepting her back. He smiled brightly. That was literally the best compliment that he had ever gotten. I think I’m starting to like this girl, he thought. It sounded vaguely familiar in his mind. Like he’d felt this way before. Oh shit. This was how he felt when he first really saw Allison. He liked Charlotte. Ugh. He did have a crush. He had just admitted it to himself. Phoebe was right. He watched Charlotte smiling at her bunny as she held a paw up and waved it at Max on her way out. Oh well, he thought, with a goofy grin as he waved back to a robot bunny.

Halloween Book Recommendations!👻☠️🎃....Part 1
Hello, my loves!! If you saw my last post, then you know what’s coming. If not, let me tell you....I wanted to do a Halloween Book Recommendation post (long one) in the beginning of the month since it’s pre Halloween month-as I call it for right now. That didn’t happen for the last couple days because I was busy. But here we are! Now...be amazed of allllll the choices you got and even if some may not be your genre or type, that is okay!
📖 The Diviners Trilogy by Libba Bray
This series is one of my favorites...sadly I haven’t finished reading the 2nd book (Lair of Dreams), but with my Halloween binge I am planning on rereading and finishing it. This is 1920’s New York...nuff said. But anyways, we have different persoectives told in 3rd person (I have no idea which 3rd, cuz those I can’t remember for the life of me), who has abilities to see ghosts/future, etc... aka Diviners. Basically physics in other words. In the first one, they battle out this evil monster dude (which is creepy...the monster dude). Lair of Dreams deals with this mystery illness...I can’t say much for this one since I haven’t finished it yet. Before the Devil Breaks You is the 3rd and final book and I don’t know what that one is about.
The audiobooks-y’all do them-I have no comments. I read The Diviners physically (I didn’t really get into audiobooks till recently this year). I did try and listen to Lair of Dreams, but it wasn’t for me. i may give it another try, so no promises on this though. I have heard that they are really good, so hopefully they are as well for you.

📖Stalking Jack the Ripper Series by Kerri Maniscalco
This series is one of my favorites! I’m gonna say that for so many here, but I love this one to pieces to where I preordered the 3rd book (Escaping From Houdini) and also the 4th and final one (Capturing the Devil. CTD is being shipped on the 10th this month (6 DAYS) from my Barnes and Noble location, so I don’t know if it will arrive that day or not.
Anyways, this series follows Audrey Rose Wadsworth in the late 1800s dealing with the Ripper murders. The second involves Dracula, third is Houdini, and the fourth is H.H Holmes. Yes, America’s first serial killer! Sorry, I’m very excited about that. Being a girl in the 1800s/1900s, you’re not really have much to live for. Audrey rather do things that guys can do (forensics in this case), then being at tea parties. I don’t blame you, girl! Then, Thomas Cressworth comes in as well and they both solves these crimes together with the help of Audrey’s uncle (a mortician). If that doesn’t get your interest, then Idk what will.

📖Confessions Series by James Patterson
This series is more mystery than horror. I personally love James Patterson and he has always been one of my favorite authors. This one follows the Angel siblings after their parents’ mystery death (that mystery is the center of the first one (Confessions of a Murder Suspect). These siblings aren’t necessarily ordinary in some since. I don’t want to give away anything, but meds has the reason for that.
Tandy Angel (main character here) solves these murders/crimes throughout the books. The second one contains school murders (not shootings, thankfully) (Confessions: The Private School Murders). The third (Confessions: The Paris Mysteries) takes place in Paris, France. I have not read this one nor the 4th one (Confessions: The Murder of an Angel) so I don’t have any opinions on these ones. It is really good and if you’re a sucker for mysteries and James Patterson boos, then here you go!

📖The Women’s Murder Club by James Patterson
Another Patterson series...I’m a sucker for them. At first, I had called this the Number series because I didn’t know what the series was called and the only thing I knew was that they have numbers in the title.
Meet Lindsay Boxer (main character), homicide inspector for San Fran; Claire Washburn, medical examiner; Jill Bernhardt, assistant D.A.; and Cindy Thomas, San Fran Chronicle writer. 4 amazing chicks who kick butt, form the Women’s Murder Club to solve these murders. Freakin girl power! The chapters are quite short, sometimes longer, but usually short, which if you’re good with that, then cool, if not, that’s okay! I’m pretty sure the latest book of the series published is the 17th one...maybe 18th....one of those two. These are the ones I currently have.

📖The Merciless Series by Danielle Vega
If you love horror, possesion, all that stuff, you’ll love this series. I first discovered it on Facebook when the book trailer popped up. It was a interesting trailer and caught my tention. Couple years later, my senior year of high school, the book fair came (appears twice a year, this was the first appearance) and I had to buy it. It was $8 bucks, originally $10.99. If you are very religious, then maybe not this series. Lots of said people said its Mean Girls and the Craft mixed together.
The first two books follows Sophoa Flores as the main character. Sophia, being the new girl, befriends the 3 populare chicks (Plastics), who they want her to befriend this outsider (Brooklynn). Mean Girls basically but little bit reveresed. Then things happen. Spoilers, so I can’t really clarify it. Second is and it’s what the 2nd is also called....The Excorsim of Sophia Flores...DUN DUN DUNNNN. The third (Origins of Evil) is where Brooklynns story begins, so we know how Brooklynn became and what not. The 4th and final (The Last Rites) features a little bit of Sophia, but this main character is Berkley Hubbard, fresh out of rehab. Honestly, these books do scare me, but not like how when I watched the Conjuring the first time. Perfect read for Halloween season!

📖Mrs. Peregrine Series by Ransom Riggs
Now, I have not been able to finish the dang first book, so Idk. From what I have read and remeber, it is really good! It’s kind of horro...I don’t particularly think it is, but others do. This has mixed media, mainly pictures, but fascinating ones! The four books follows Jacob Portman and his friends of peculiar aka they have abilities and their adventures they have. If you’ve seen the movis, then you understand what I mean. Ransom’s writing is one of my favorites and having pictures/media in them makes me happy. I am a visual person, so the pictures help me a lot.
Anways, the first book is where Jacob is in the peculiar world where the peculiars live in this never ending time loop of the same day, but they rewind time before bombs happen aka Poland in WW 2. I’ve heard so many amazing things of this series! Jesse the Reader (booktuber) LOVES this series and he will recommend it to the end of time.

📖Visions Trilogy by Lisa McMann
These three books involve visions. If you have seen Medium (with Patricia...I cant remember her last name), then you will love Visions. They don’t involve any ghosts, so that’s a difference from Medium.
Here we have (Crash) Jules Demarco, who is seeing visions of this explosion everywhere. She realizes this explosion will happen very soon and she has to stop it before it happens. Not much, I know, but the next one (Bang) (sadly deals with a school shooting), her crush gets the visions this time. The third one (Gasp) has this random character who the two save last book ends up getting the visions then. This vision is a boat accident...a ferry to be precise, but nothing like Titanic...at least I don’t think so. This was a good series and really liked them. Easy to read in 1 day...unless y’all are busy and or a slow reader like me.

📖The Asylum Series by Madeleine Roux
Horror, ghosts, random past lives stuff! I only have the first two books (Asylum and Sanctum), but I think there is a third and one or two novellas. I love these guys! You get some pictures and letters in the books, so cool!
Here is Dan Crawford, who is spending the summe at the New Hampshire College Prep program. Abby Valdez and Jordan (no last name was given) are his new found friends at the program. The catch of all this, the newly built dorms is where the Brookline Asylum used to be. The three friends uncover secrets of their pasts and families and such. It’s such a good series.

📖The Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer
The infamous Twilight books. Y’all may have expected this or may not have. I do not have an opinion on this series just yet. I recently read Twilight for the first time and really liked it. That said, hopefully I will get to the other books and see where my opinions lie.
Everyone knows what this series is about, but if not, come to me. Isabella (Bella) Swan moves from the heat of Arizona (I feel you Bella) to the rainy world of Forks, Washington. There, she meets the Cullen siblings...mainly Edward...who happens to be vampires. Bella and Edward get closer and start dating and what not. Ah yes, the infamous woods scene where Edward is like “Say it!” to Bella, it actually happens in the car so casually. This series contains a love triangle of a human, vampire, and a werewolf.

📖The Chronicles of Vladmir Tod by Heather Brewer...okay it’s formerly Heather, but it is now Zac Brewer
I love this series...even though I only read the first two books and a little bit of the 3rd one. If you love vampires...well half human half vampire then yessss! Half human, Half Titan....Half human, half ghoul....if y’all watch anime, then you probably get the two references. Okay...onto the synopsis!
Vladmir Tod is the equivalent of...dang it what is the word....ahhh disgrace cuz he is half human and half vampire. In the vampire world, humans and vamps dont go together. He is raised by his Aunt Nelly, who of course knows he is half vampire. His best friend, Henry also knows. Throughout 8th Grade to 12th Grade, he’s gotta deal with bullies and vampire slayers. What a hard knock life for this dude.
