DPXDC Prompt #128 part 3

Danny walked into the room behind Batman to find his soulmate sitting on the couch. He had a first aid kit on the table in front of him but it wasn’t open and Jason seemed to just be resting for the moment. Well until he started speaking.

“Take off the helmet, I’ve already seen my own damn face and it’ll make this fucking conversation that much easier.” Danny shuffled his feet for a moment before doing what he said and taking the helmet off.

Setting it down on the table he sat down next to Jason and held out his hand. Skin contact was how you and your soulmate got back in their own bodies. Jason didn’t take it though.

“Hold on, I was serious about those questions, can I guarantee you won’t bolt the second you’re in your own body?”

Danny kind of chucked, it was a hollow half hearted kind of noise. “You and I both know what kind of state I’m in right now, I'd have better luck staying in your body.”

Jason seemed to think it over for a moment before shrugging and taking Danny’s hand. A brilliant light and he was back in his own body, he was in much more pain than he remembered.

Danny grimaced as he got into a more comfortable position, “I’d like to start with… an apology.” Danny was choosing his words carefully. He stopped to think for a moment before continuing, “I haven’t had the best experiences with circuses or clowns in the past,” the room and the com remained silent. “When I saw the Joker in front of me, I was terrified, my fists couldn’t help tensing… I swear I didn’t know I was holding guns until they went off.” Danny could feel himself start to babble a little bit.

His soulmate held up his hands, “so, if what you're telling me is correct the bastard clown is dead?”

Danny nodded hesitantly, after his babbling to Red Hood he was unable to say anything else.

Jason continued, “alright, we can deal with that later. What Id like to focus on now,” he leaned in and gave Danny a harsh look that made him shrink in his seat a little, “what the fuck happened to you before the switch, gotta tell you, not a fan of whatever all that was.” He made a big hand motion gesturing all around him.

Another pause Danny didn’t know what to say, of course that didn’t slide with Jason.

“Speak up, I don’t even know your name and you already know my identity.” Jason narrowed his eyes at Danny.

He was right of course so Danny gathered a little bit of courage, “I’m Danny,” when Jason didn’t respond he let his gaze fall onto the floor and tightened his fists before continuing, “I honestly don’t know where to begin, I’m willing to tell you but could we maybe do it alone?”

He took the communications device out of his ear and switched it off. Jason nodded and reached over to turn the com off his helmet. The only one left in the room was Batman and after a few moments of them staring back and forth at each other Jason spoke,

“He’s MY soulmate and not you or anyone else needs to hear this. It’s his business, if he decides to let you know what up we’ll let you but leave old man.” Jason’s words were stern and harsh but it eventually got the point across. Danny wondered briefly about how close he was with Batman considering how familiar he seemed to be speaking with him. Batman left after a few minutes and the two were left alone on the couch sitting across from each other.

Danny took a moment to breath l but before he could begin Jason held up a hand, “hold on, let’s get your wounds properly looked at while you're talking. I won’t take no for an answer.” Danny sighed and mulled it over for a second but then relented and took his shirt off. It wasn’t pretty and the rags he wrapped around himself as a faux gauze wouldn’t hold in the long run. Jason seemed to stare at it for a moment before moving to open the first aid kit. Danny started talking after the shirt was off.

“I might as well rip off the bandaid so to say, I’ve been on the run from a government run agency. I’m…” he paused after he noticed how still the other seemed to get after the rags were completely gone. A large angry Y shape was across his chest, an everlasting reminder of the awful things that happened during his stay at the GIW facility. His soulmate's eyes flashed green and he looked away, seeming like he was trying to control his anger. There was a pause in the air, the kind of awkward moment where it just feels like bad luck to break.

“…What government organization?” Jason said after regaining his composure.

“They’re called the GIW or Ghost Investigation Ward, long story short there exists a law. If something produces the substance called ectoplasm, the life blood of ghosts, they are considered non sentient. They mistook me for a ghost.” Danny decided to go for half truths, with everything that happened he thought he probably shouldn’t tell his soulmate exactly everything.

“And the belt?” Oh, that was one question he was hoping to avoid.

“Ah, sorry if you got shocked, it’s set to shock me when I touch it, guess they wanted a way to subdue me if needed.” Danny joked, he knew he was thin and he was still a little short. He didn’t grow that much after the accident, he wondered how much taller he could have gotten if given the chance.

I’ll have these parts sectioned out a little better if I start posting on AO3. This talk will continue in part 4

Top 10 worst Bruce dad moments?

So here's the thing. I'm not actually like. That well versed in the comics yet? Again like. Only been here for about six months. But I'll do my best anyway

10. Firing Dick

HE FIRED DICK FROM BEING ROBIN. THE NICKNAME HIS MOTHER GAVE HIM. THEN GAVE SAID NICKNAME TO ANOTHER CHILD. WHAT THE FUCK.

9. Steph as Robin

Honestly everything about this is a mess. I've only read a few pages from this arc but Tim quitting being Robin was a really difficult decision and Bruce's response was to give the job to Tim's sort-of-ex girlfriend and then treat her like crap. I believe it's canonically cause she reminded him too much of Jason, but that might just be the fandom's reading of the subtext; either way, if the shoe fits...

8. Telling Damian if he was there, Alfred wouldn't have died

What the FUCK, Bruce, that is your SON. COMFORT HIM FOR THE LOSS OF HIS GRANDFATHER

7. Robin!Tim in general

Listen intentional or not Tim is written as a character that has very much internalized needing to be useful being more important than anything else. His parents simply prioritize work over him point blank - his dad doesn't even remember his birthday, for God's sake - and Bruce simply like. Does not help with this. If anything he takes advantage of it. Tim needs to be loved unconditionally, like, STAT, like, that would fix 70% of his identity issues kinda STAT, and I'm not sure he's ever felt that with Bruce

6. Free space: any time he's hit one of his children that I don't know about

I once reblogged a post that detailed every time he hit Dick but that's long gone into the ether now, I can't find it. Anyway there's no excuse to hit your child. Don't fucking do it. They shouldn't hit you, either, doesn't make it ok for you to do if they've done it fyi. Batman can do non violent solutions, we know this, so fucking use those on your children.

5. Reviving the joker

I believe Dick isn't necessarily mad about not having murdered a man basically in cold blood, but I am. What the fuck, Bruce. You tried to kill him twice, you really wanna tell me you don't understand the urge and NEED to kill him??? And then you BRING HIM BACK TO LIFE??? Again. As I've said. What the FUCK

4. Killing Dick and sending him off to Spyral

Actually Dick shouldn't ever forgive Bruce for anything he's ever done to him ever. Have you seen the panels where they have this argument? His family GRIEVES him and for what!!!! For WHAT

(I understand Grayson itself is actually great I wouldn't know I haven't read it. Doesn't make what Bruce did okay tho. I'm also not sure I trust the positive reviews it's written by Tim Seeley and Tom King like......)

3. RHatO Rebirth #25

Penguin didn't fucking die. He didn't get shot in the face with a real bullet. You don't beat your son half to death to the point where he needs to be RESCUED from you - actually no need to qualify that sentence with the intended "over something that didn't actually happen", you simply don't beat your son half to death, should be a no brainer and YET

2. UTRH end scene

Heartbreaking. We all know at this point. Batarang to the throat. Chooses the Joker over Jason. It's enough to make a fully grown (25 next month) man (eh) cry (I mean. Yeah)

1. INTENTIONALLY TRIGGERING JASON

See here for the ask where I talked about this (and which is presumably the ask that led to this anon). Taking Jason to Ethiopia with no warning when he's cooperating anyway just to intentionally trigger him in order to try to get Damian back to life when you never did anything like that for Jason? Holy fucking shit, you know? Just betrayal after betrayal after betrayal

Anyway I'm sure this list is missing some major moments and I'd love to know what I forgot about or, more likely, simply don't know about! I love a well written good dad!Bruce fic but lbr that's just not what he's like in canon. Calling him a mixed bag as a father figure is an understatement

Today we're celebrating New Year in my country so I'd love to share my love and appreciation to this site, to the people I see here and to the creators that make this unbelievably great content for regular users like me

This year was really tough for me. I had problems in my family, my mental health was out of control and I had no idea what to do with my own life. Then there was May and Eurovision 2023 came and saved me. At first I wasn't impressed by both Käärijä and Joker Out, I thought Jere was too unhinged and the boys were a bit boring. Eventually I started to follow this kinda «behind the scenes» on the Eurovision Instagram account, follow the interviews on YouTube and so on and I honestly fell in love with their personalities.

Joker Out were so open and real, so different from each other and at the same time they managed to create one of the most comfortable atmospheres inside their band. I've never seen a band in which the members are actually so close and keep such amazing friendships among each other. They are creative, kind, they love their fans and they don't have this arrogance like «we're famous so we don't care». The boys are still very nice and they interact with their fans which is very, very sweet. Also they are so, so amazing creators and their music is something I can't live without now

And Käärijä. Jere. I wasn't really excited about him in his music video, but when I saw the live show, I was much more impressed. When it comes to his personality, I'm absolutely in love. His fame hit him so harshly and he had to get used to a lot of changes in his career, he had to learn how to be famous (as he deserved to be!), but, as Joker Out, he is still the same guy from Vantaa, he is a simple dude, he does cringe stuff, he has fun, he loves his friends and his fans and he is very open about it. Jere is also a wonderful performer whose music was so unusual yet so great for me, I had no idea I'd like something like that but here we are! He is like a ray of sunshine and writing this post is very close to make me cry of love and emotions at the moment...

What I was going to say is thank you, Joker Out and Käärijä, and thank you, all of you, guys, for being here and writing, drawing, creating all of this wonderful thing on Tumblr. Thank you for being you, I'm grateful to be a part of the fandom ❤️

My Year in Gigs

Seeing as we're nearing the end of the year, I thought I'd look back on the amazing shows I've been lucky enough to attend in 2023 and resurrect my Post-Concert Depression with a definitive ranking 😅💚

Eurovision Semi Final One - Live Show: Absolute dream-come-true experience. Loved every minute, the crowd was so kind and supportive towards every act, and I got to see most of my faves steal the show and advance to the finals 🥰

Muse (Dublin) : My second Muse gig of the year was even more of a blast than the first! Absolutely nothing could have prepared me for the joy of finally seeing Butterflies and Hurricanes and Apocalypse Please live 😭

Queens of the Stone Age: Josh Homme arrived onstage, called us all crazy motherfuckers, expressed a sincere desire to get fucked in the ass by a Scottish dude, then called his guitarist a 500-year-old vampire before flirting shamelessly with him. 10/10, no notes. Oh yeah, and the music slapped too.

Käärijä: Half hilarious stand-up show, half incredible party with insanely fun, energetic songs. One of the most enjoyable gigs I’ve ever been to and I would pay good money to fly to Finland solely to see Käärijä play a gig on his home turf.

Muse (Bellahouston Park): My boys were incredible as ever and I had a genuinely great time at this gig, but it gets demoted a little due to the torrential rain cutting our setlist short and making me ill 😅 Would have been an easy third place had technical difficulties not robbed me of the chance to see Verona live...

Go_A: If you’ve never been to a Ukrainian Folk-Rave before, I can highly recommend it! Go_A were simply phenomenal with great energy that had us dancing all night. Highlight of the show was Ihor delivering a badass flute solo while Kateryna went backstage to recharge her awesomeness.

Sparks: These guys have been making consistently excellent music for decades and still have more energy and enthusiasm than most young bands could ever dream of possessing. Such a wonderful set filled with amazingly quirky songs both old and new.

Joker Out: It says a lot about the high quality of shows on this list that I’ve had to rank these guys so low. In any other year they’d be a clear contender for top three! The energy from both the band and crowd were insane, the boys were clearly in awe of having a venue full of Scots singing along with them in Slovene, and I need the Demoni scream injected directly into my veins 😈

Arctic Monkeys: This ranking has almost nothing to do with the band themselves who delivered a great show, but looking back on it I’ve just had to accept that I wasn’t having a good time during a large chunk of this gig. The crowd in my section were rowdy to the point where I couldn’t hear or see anything and I was wasting all my energy trying not to get shoved. My depression was also playing up to the point where I was struggling to get excited over songs I dearly love and I just felt unwell and burnt out all night. The second half was a definite improvement as we’d moved to a calmer area by the time they brought out The Car songs, but by the end I was just exhausted and desperate for home. Would see them again in a heartbeat in a more intimate indoor venue, but I think I’ll avoid any of their big stadium tours in future 😅

Busted: Honestly, I had a much nicer time at this gig compared to Arctic Monkeys. The nostalgia alone of singing along to ‘Thunderbirds Are Go’ at the top of my lungs is always a special moment. But I can’t pretend for a second that Busted’s music comes anywhere close to the quality of Arctic Monkeys’ recent output, so they’re a very reluctant last place on my list of generally incredible gig experiences 😅

Best Support Act: Nova Twins by a country mile. I may have fallen slightly in love with Georgia and her incredible bass skills. It was easy to see why Muse invited them on tour because they seemed so at-ease in a massive arena 😊

Here's to (hopefully) more amazing gigs in 2024! I'd love to hear about some of the great shows that you guys attended this year as well 🥰💖

So I watched the first episode of the Paripi Koumei/Ya Boy Kongming! drama and it was quite lushly put together and nice, imho. I'm still not that healthy so I've just put together my rando thoughts while watching below.

The obnoxious Joker dancing on the stairs was a nice touch for the post-Halloween party scene.

The show is visually well-composed, a lot of effort has been put into the composition of scenes, the lighting and the cinematography. While I'd say the manga has decent but not spectacular visuals, the drama is well-crafted as an immersive visual and auditory experience.

The scenes set in the past feel heavily influenced by historical dramas and the visuals differ from the present scenes nicely. The heightened sense of reality works well in these moments as they are Kongming's memories/dreams/etc. rather than the present reality.

Mukai Osamu as Kongming sells the entire show. He plays the dramatic scenes with heart but doesn't hesitate to throw all his effort into the humour as well. I don't think you could get much better live action casting for a role as quirky as this series' version of Kongming.

Kobayashi having the full setup of Three Kingdoms miniatures in his desk was honestly a genius touch. It really helped them transition nicely during the culmination of Kongming's strategy at the end of the episode (something I had been unsure they could pull off convincingly in live action).

I'd say the weakest link link the show thus far is EIKO herself. In this version of the story she lacks a lot of the energy the character has in previous incarnations. I'm also not sure if the additional moment before meeting Kobayashi (which shows her suicide attempt happened after someone busted her guitar) brought anything to her character either.

I'm also not a massive fan of her songs in this first episode? They also lack energy imho. I just kind of sat there thinking "Yeah I'd go listen to someone else too" when she was performing during the episode's climax. Which is a shame, I love EIKO in the manga and anime so I really hope they lift her up a bit more in the drama in subsequent episodes.

I get what they were going for having her be a bit "flat" given how she feels her career has stalled before her encounter with Kongming, but I found her keeping that low energy while performing an odd choice idk.

Watching "I'm Still Alive Today" being performed here you're like yeah, I get why EIKO is entranced by Maria (Avu-chan kills this scene). I didn't feel the same way when Kongming was entranced by EIKO during the Halloween performance though.

I wasn't sure about how much they changed up Kobayashi's appearance to scream yakuza in the drama, but then they showed his stupid hair from behind. Immediately sold, no notes. Kobayashi here seems more intimidating in his new leopard-print attire, as if he'd genuinely kick your ass for EIKO. That then heightens the humour when he brings out his miniatures and is shown to be a total otaku. Good stuff.

Mia's performance and overall vibe was pretty much perfect for who she is when we first meet her in the story. I like how the drama really does replicate these types of performances well with the lighting and the backup dancers, they do feel like real performances.

Speaking of performances. Shoutout to the fact that the episode ended with this bit. Sekiguchi Mandy has incredible thighs. I find it interesting that they're introducing Maezono Keiji in the first episode (given he's from the Summer Sonia arc).

Overall I think there's definitely enough here that's different to warrant a watch if you're a fan of either the manga or anime. From small things like EIKO just bringing Kongming to the back of the B.B. Lounge rather than her apartment, through to significant changes like Keiji being in it from the get-go. I'm keen to see how they pull it all off in 10 episodes.

I kinda wanna see Jason & several others get a bit of a reality check.I've seen comments that Bruce trains kids as 'child soldiers' &??? The only child soldiers are Damien & Steph?? And they didn't become them because of Batman??

From what I recall, Dick, Jason, & Tim all insisted on vigilanteism. Like, Bats TRIED to get them to just stay home where it was safe, but they refused!

Like, what do people expect Bats to have done? Lock them in a dungeon & never let them out?

It's about a 50/50 that would've even worked & on the 50% chance that they did get out, they would've immediately started crime fighting again!

Or, should Bruce have just left them to their own devices, like "not my problem?" They would've either died trying to be heroes on their own & without guidence or grown up to hate the Bat even more for his apethy towards their problems.

Like, whether Jason, or anyone else, likes it or not, Bruce training them was a best case scenario.

All Batman did was try to heard them in the least dangerous direction that he could by giving them the tools to not die a horrible death.

Obviously, it didn't always work (i.e. Jason), but what does Jason expect Bruce to have done in his situation? What would've been the better alternative?

Honestly, I think the problem is that his anger is too big to pin onto just one person, but at the same time, he doesn't want to admit that he got himself into the situation that got him killed. Jason decided to chase after his birth mother without Bruce's aid. Jason went to Ethiopia. Yes, it happened because the Joker believed that there was some sort of connection between Todd & Batman, but how could Batman control that?

Like, I'm not saying that Jay doesn't have a legitimate right to be furiously angry at Bruce. I just think that he should focus on the things that the overgrown furry could actually control & did not handle correctly.

Like, the fact that he was hurt about Tim becoming Robin is understandable, but he didn't really have all the facts to understand the context surrounding Tim becoming Robin. Like the fact that Bruce was not functioning well without a Robin or that Tim refused to just stop when he wastold to. There was more to the situation than what Jay was aware of.

At the same time, his arguments about Bruce not avenging him or burying him with the Wayne name. I can understand that & actually very much agree with him.

Batsy should've killed the Joker or, at least, walked away while Dick did it if he wasn't strong enough to do it himself.

But, he didn't. And I get not wanting your kid to have to walk around with that kind of guilt hanging over his head, but reviving the effing Joker went WAY too far.

At the same time, Jason also should've just killed the Joker the moment he got the chance to. Deciding to use the sack of shit to punish Bats, was a dumbass idea. He should've shot his ass & then double, triple, & quadruple tapped, just to make sure.

Then, if he wasn't to be a dramatic asshole, put the Joker's head on a pike in the most visited part of Gotham with a sign with some sort of literary quote. Something to the tune of "Hey ho, the Wicked Witch is dead" or something with that sort of message.

As for the rest of the Joker's body? I'd suggest going the route of John Haigh. Just to be safe...

I know what you mean. I think the fandom and people outside the family give brice greif about the child soldier thing more than the kids themselves do. As far as ive seen dick, jason, tim, damian, and even steph own that robin is something they chose. It wasnt sething batman necessarily made them, its something they needed to do. Batman gets a lot of critism, like wise the league has argued about having sidekicks and teams like the titans and yj because theyre children. More often than not i see conflict about the adults trying to take the hero persona away, than about being given the cape in the first place.

But it can be complicated. I have heard the kids regret being vigilantes and regret what they've been made into by the job. So dick will never regret saving lives but he does regret his inability to settle down, the trained to a fault paranoia, the physical scars and mental wounds. The blame of that doesnt fall on batman or bruce. But on some level all kids feel like their parents are supposed to protect them and there's a point where you realize they can't. This is even more true when your a vigilante and exposed to untold danger. Bruce is a man and he isnt perfect so he can't protect his kids from everything. That hurts him more than it hurts his kid. But its still difficult to get hurt and be disappointed that yoir dad, that your hero wasn't there to save you.

Which brings me to jason. I recognize where you're coming from with jasons anger being irrational and all over the place. But what you gotta understand is that

1. He went through a rediculous amount of trauma. Like the time line of events is: bruce accused him of murdering a guy who commited suicide, jason got mad and found evidence of his birth mother, so he ran away to Ethiopia, he and bruce met up their almost coincidentally because bruce was tracking the joker and that communicate bruce didn't care that jason ran away, jason gets beaten with a crowbar and his mother also gets hurt because the joker is a bastard. The joker sets up a bomb and jason struggles to get he and his mom out despite his wounds. The bomb goes off and jason dies right as batman arrives. Then 6 months later jason wakes up and has to literally claw his way out of his own grave. Afterwhich he is catatonic qnd living on the streets until talia finds him

2. He was being manipulated. Talia found jason and trained him with the league and put him in the lazerus pit so he could recover higher brain function. She gave him everything he needed to train and get vengeance and framed it as a favor to her beloved. But she didn't tell the whole truth and didnt have all the information. Her actions here weren't altruistic. Its heavily implied she was sending jason as her loyal soldier to get rid of tim to clear the way for Damian.

3. The lazerus pit is essentially a drug that amplifies emotions. You could think of it as jason being on steroids. While his actions and emotions are his own they were amped up and irrational. So a lot of his irrational behavior and half thought out plans and stupity can be tied back to him having this 'drug' in his system. Emotions take the wheel and make people stupid without drugs amplifying things

But as i said his actions and the root of his feelings are still his own. So as to the why jason is so angry... well its not just that he was replaced or that he died. It that his death seemingly meant nothing. Jason died and seemingly nothing in gotham changed. He didn't see bruce greive. He didnt know that bruce almost killed the joker twice or that dick temporarily succeeded. He didnt know tim wasnt chosen but decided for himself to be robin. What jason aw was that within months of him dying there was another kid in his cape running around gotham and making quips like jason never existed. He saw the joker, his murderer, still on the steets still torturering and killing people. He saw bruce wayne with a new adopted kid. He saw his tenure, his life, the job that he died for reduced to a memorial in the bat cave with a plaque saying "a good soldier". Not a good son. No one but bruce and alfred were at his funeral.

So jason wasnt mad that tim replaced him. He wasnt mad that he died trying to save his mother. He was made that it seemingly effected nothing. That his death meant nothing to his family and it meant nothing to gotham.

If he wasnt mad at tim than why did he almost murder him? To send a message and to teach a lesson. He wanted tim to understand that robin is dangerous and that Bruce's protection was an empty promise. Jason could have killed tim in titans tower, but he didnt. Because tim dying wasnt the goal.

Why go through a convoluted plot to make batman do it? Well, initially it was jason being irrational. He got it into his head that bruce needed to prove that he loved him, to prove that hed protect him by defeating the monster. Jason wanted Bruce to choose being his dad over his no kill rule. And bruce chose the rule.

So that seemingly said, bruce doesnt love him, possibly never loved him. And this is further exhasperated by bruce sucking at communication. Bruce didn't just chose not to kill the joker when given the ultimatum, he threw a batarang at jason. Bruces will said jason was his biggest mistake. Bruce meant it in a 'i fucked up' way but jason took it as further 'adopting and you was a mistake'. Its shit and with the magic equivalent of .drugs further clouding things. Jason having tantrums and always shotting on bruce and the fam is understandable even if its not fair.

Why not kill the joker himself? Well part of that is fear. Jason has tried a few times to kill the joker and between the fucker being somewhat immortal for convoluted reason, trauma making jason freeze up, and outside interference it just hasnt taken.

As for bruce himself not killing the joker or bruce reviving the joker after dick killed him... well that comes back to the rule itself and bruces motivation for never killing. When bruce was younger he wanted to kill the guy who killed his parents. And alfred explained that taking a life is permanent and puts a weight on your soul. Its something you cant take back and something you have to live with forever. Showing people mercy, giving people a second chance is always the kinder option. Bruce made his rule initially because hes a kind person and he didn't want to carry the weight of murder. Likewise he revived the joker after dick killed him because he doesnt want dick to live with that weight, to live with that regret. Later on the rule took a more sinister tone because batman has seen who he becomes when starts killing. He also knows that if he starts killing hed never stop. Its a weird moral absolute but he knows if he could excuse killing the joker he could excuse killing anyone. And eventually anyone would include people who can change and innocents.

Its a little dumb of a moral absolute but its part if Bruce's character. I think its important to recognize the strength that it takes to show mercy to someone a shitty and undeserving as the joker. That kinda why theyre locked into being nemesis. The joker is ar his core nihilistic. He creates suffering because life is hopeless and nothing matters so may as well laugh at the pain. Batman is someone whos felt a lot of pain and is angry at the world that hurts people, but he is someone who gave himself hope and he is someone who sees the good in people even when they dont recognize the good in themselves. He is merciful and that is an act of kindness.

I do think the joker is beyond redemption at this point. It's the trolly problem at the end of the day: is the jokers recovery worth the lives of everyone hes killed tortured, drugged, and maimed? No. If the joker were to get suddenly better and regret his actions, it wouldnt bring anyone back and very few people would forgive him. Hed never be able yo reenter society or have a normal life. Hes never been a character who deserved mercy, but mercy isnt something you give because it's deserved. Personally i'd be more merciful to the jokers victims and put the fucker down.

But thats not my call. It isn't even really batmans call. At the end of the day batman is just a man in a suit. He isnt god and he isnt judge, jury, or executioner. To kill is a choice and batman chooses not to.

A better question is why the jokers life and death is considered batmans responsibility? And why is murder what jason needs for bruce to prove he loves him? I think thats where jason needs the wake up call. Murder isnt a normal response to having your kid murdered, even if im sure all parents going through that think about it. So why does jason need bruce to kill him so bad?

To feel safe. Jason can never feel safe so long as the joker is around and a dad is supposed to keep you safe. Bruce didnt.

Murder and mercy is where their breakdown of communication is. Bruce choses to be merciful to the villains he's fighting. Jason choses to kill the monsters so the victims can feel safe again.

I was supposed to have died that day, I found myself thinking. But this thought wasn't out of scorn or hatred for the times I had made since then, it was a matter of fact. I didn't get what I had been promised, yet this time I wasn't so sure what I had expected at the time. Morgana then and now were two cherries separated at the stem. Our concept of what we thought we needed mirrored, the reflection a jarring contrast. "You must have the wrong guy," I found myself saying, cutting through my rampant thoughts. I highly doubted there was anything Vincent could be capable of lying to us about. Even if he decided to tell the others and not me, I was at least 99% certain Juniper would have spilled it by now.

But they weren’t hollow because they were empty; they were hollow because they had yet to return. "They're just playing a game of hide and seek.” He grunted in agitated confusion. I sighed, picking up where I left off in the clutter. “Right now, sadness is 'it' and it's having a hard time finding the others. Hmm, I'd wager that anger is hiding in a prickly blackberry bush. Fear isn't always smart, so it's hiding clear-as-day behind a tree. Happiness is relaxing way up high in a tree..." I stood on my toes to prop the last textbook at the top of the shelf. The ridiculous analogy made Darcy chuckle. "It seems it found laughter first," I stuck out my tongue. Darcy came over to help, except my balance was a bit off and the book may have accidentally slipped from my fingers. It knocked him on the head before hitting the floor with a deafening belly flop. Instead of complaining about his head, his eyes lingered on the fallen book for a few extra seconds.

He didn't know how to appreciate an offer of such high demand. It was honestly insulting. However, my TV show escapade was short-lived once I realized that he wasn’t going to let up. He was really upset, wasn't he? I could see it in his vacant stare: his soul had left his body. He took a step back, hands hovering cluelessly at his sides. “Uh, Elijah? What’s wrong, man?” I leaned against the creaky trunk, which snapped further shut, almost forfeiting my balance. It really needed more bungee cords, come to think if it. “This…this isn’t even one of the guys that harassed me.” “Come again?” Elijah was such a joker. “Blair…” The abstraction of my friend clutched my shoulders, causing the damp fabric to press into my skin. His hollow eyes sat constricted in their sockets, white about to burst in urgency. “It’s just some guy with green hair…” “Yeah, and…?” I raised a brow. Of course, he had green hair. What was he going on about? I saw a man with the same colored hair as one of the guys Elijah described, then I…wait, where did I even find this guy? I don’t even remember his face. And it would really be embarrassing to double-check by popping open the trunk. Had I really…? I searched the swirling green clouds for an answer. Then Elijah called my name and my wandering eyes found their way back to his.

If I may ask: how would you have written/rewritten Sumire's confident story? 😊 Unless it's too close to what you did in code violet, sorry 😂 Personnally, I thought the first half wasn't THAT boring, she was endearing but I felt like she was either in denial or hiding her grief about her sister's death - and then I got the truth 😂 I've become a shusumi fan quickly but I still think there's *something* lacking for it to click. And the last scene we see Sumire was underwhelming imho 🥲

yeah! there are a lot of similarities to what i do in code violet, but it's not identical, since I have a lot more freedom in my fic than there is in the game.

i wouldn't change much if anything about the first half. i agree it isn't that boring, what really makes it seem that way are (1) high expectations for the New Special Girl to be exceptional since she wasn't in the original game and (2) comparing her to the other team members who you're already invested in, her conflict just isn't as interesting (at least to me). basically, you start out every other thief confidant already knowing the core of their conflict because of their palace, so you're already invested in their arcs, while with sumire that is reversed, where you don't learn what's actually going on with her later. so, the "boringness" of the confidant is really exaggerated by that. if you didn't like the way they inserted her into the opening sequence (i never had an issue with it, but royal was my first experience, though i did know the stuff with her was added in the rerelease) so she made a bad impression on you, then it's understandable why people wouldn't like her (at first, anyway)

but let's get to the point. my issues with her confidant. they can basically be summed up in 2 points, and the two of them intersect quite a bit (1) the way she idolizes both kasumi and joker and rely on them for her self worth is not properly unpacked and (2) her role as the waifu REALLY impedes her arc.

basically, sumire idolizes joker. her outfit mirrors his exactly, and her arc in third sem is all about...learning that since joker loves her, she wants to both rise to his expectations and can learn to value herself. and that's not bad, but certain lines about how she wants joker to see her really rub me the wrong way. specifically in her rank when they go to the mall and she picks an outfit for herself. i like the part about her wanting to be seen as herself, and the part about joker's reaction ultimately being irrelevant to whether she likes the outfit, and i would emphasize those points more strongly. but the parts about her wanting joker to see her feel a little like she's trying to be a person he will like? rather than being the person that she is. some of the dialogue is pretty meh, and it feels like she's getting her self worth from joker.

the bones of the confidant are good. great, even. but there's just subtleties in the execution that make it not quite land for me. choosing the romance route ends up feeling unhealthy for both of them, where sumire is putting too much of her worth in someone else and joker is entering an unequal relationship where sumire doesn't give him as much as he gives her because he just isn't in a place to. and i think that's a shame.

for me to get behind shusumi, sumire needs to be on equal ground with akira, and she just isn't. and the game is even aware of this--sumire says on white day that she isn't, but that she wants to be someday. and like, it could be her being self deprecating, but either way it's not what either of them deserve. i wish we could get a moment where she's there for akira like he's there for her, but atlus is allergic to joker's friends being there for him so we never get that.

so honestly, i really wouldn't change much. i'd leave the first half how it is, tweak some dialogue in the second half so it seems less like sumire is getting her self worth from joker, and add a moment where sumire explicitly says she's there for joker and wants to be there for him as much as he's been there for her, so they're on emotionally equal ground with each other.

finally, i do wish we got to see more of her journey, since she really is just at the very beginning of her arc of recovery at the end of the game. but i think it's okay that we don't. there is only so much time allotted to watch her grow, and we see her grow a lot in that time. there's questions she could ask herself that she doesn't have the time to get to, like if she really wants to be a gymnast for herself, or if she's just doing it for her sister. that sort of thing. but again, i think it's okay we don't get to that. i might add a line or two where she says she wants to be a gymnast for herself because she enjoys it, though.

and i guess that's it? i'm sorry for how disorganized this answer is. i haven't really thought in depth about what i'd change if restricted by the confines of the game, and so it's kind of difficult to do a rewrite when that's different than just having problems with what exists. a lot of what i would change can be found in code violet, like how i emphasize that it's "joker makes me want to be seen for who i am, and see him in return" rather than the one-way dynamic of "joker makes me want to be seen and so i will try to be a person he likes" which some of her lines really come across as sometimes. honestly, i think the entire confidant could have been improved by leaning more into the rivalry dynamic. sumire and akechi already have plenty of similarities/parallels, and joker kind of inherits kasumi's role as sumire's rival. so i think it'd have been really powerful if they leaned into that and made it clear that this time, sumire and her rival are equals.

but yeah! sorry this is so rambly. i'm going to end the post now

Reading the comic the way I am has honestly been a ride. It's part book club, part English class, and part fandom speedrun - and I think it makes for a really unique experience.

I think that'd make for an interesting troll quirk, actually. Imagine a troll who talks completely normally, but their quirk script censors their conversational partner's messages.

It's odd to imagine that, in a framework defined by its romantic nature, there would be relationships that aren't so romantic.

I assume that different trolls have different views on moirallegiance - and maybe, in Eridan's opinion, it's less romantic or desirable than matespritship.

These comparisons are all great.

Ianthe is an interesting character to compare with Vriska. She's a lot more guarded, and a lot less openly remorseful about what she does - but only one of these girls is known to cry herself to sleep, and it's not the one you'd expect.

Also, I'm honestly losing my mind a little at the Gideon shades reveal. If I recall correctly, she found them on the Ninth, and they were described as ancient. There's a small but real chance that they're canonically the Ben Stiller shades.

Karkat's quadrant explanation was apparently a near-verbatim recreation of the comic's, so an argument can be made that we're hearing Karkat's understanding of the quadrants, and not the 'objective' understanding of an omniscient narrator.

Which makes sense, really. Relationships are complicated, messy, and can only really be defined by the individuals participating in them. There can't really be an 'objectively correct' definition of a given quadrant, because every troll's understanding of their own relationships will differ, in a million subtle ways.

They're teenagers, so probably not. Karkat's understanding of quadrants seems mostly academic - he doesn't seem to have much first-hand experience.

In some ways, moirallegiance does seem a lot like a queerplatonic relationship. I guess on Alternia, one difference is that moirallegiance has a defined purpose - pacifying violent trolls - whereas each qpr is uniquely defined by those who participate in it.

However, like I said above, different trolls are going to view the quadrants in different ways. Perhaps there are trolls who form non-traditional moirallegiances, like the one anon described above. There's nothing stopping a troll from defining a relationship like that, other than societal pressure - and that doesn't stop humans, so why would it stop trolls?

I've got to say, I'd be interested in seeing how a horrorterror(-adjacent) being would raise a troll. I'm still not convinced she's a 'true' lusus, and I have an inkling that Feferi is going to be a particularly strange troll as a result, even among the Players.

I think, for mature trolls - ones who who understand the practical and emotional risks - the idea of having a partner who is also your designated rival might actually work. After all, partners and rivals both inspire you to be better, so there's some synergy there.

It's just not, as you say, something that teenagers should be involving themselves in. If they didn't need to do so to survive, I'm sure a lot of them would opt out of the system.

It is interesting that they're friends, isn't it? They seem to have an established relationship, so maybe Kanaya sees something in him that I don't - or maybe we're seeing him on a particularly bad day, and he's not always like this.

Probably still Rose, although Kanaya is getting close to challenging her position.

Alchemy, closely followed by ectobiology. The two are pretty closely related - they're interesting ways to 'combine' things.

I have a list of unclosed time-loops, although they're more prophecies than Chekhov's guns.

I don't think Homestuck really has any deliberate Guns. Hussie is pretty open about this - the story is intentionally chock full of details that might be important later, and some of them will be - but you won't be able to figure out which, because even the author doesn't know until closer to the time.

Bruce's P. O. V

"H/N!!! ROBIN!!!" I yelled with all I had in my voice.

Joker had kidnapped them and put a bomb where my wife and my son were. I ran, the fire was everywhere. I'm terrified that I won't find them. I continued to yell both of their names continuously, my voice breaking just as my heart. They can't be gone... They can't. She is, my rock.. My wife. I don't know how she puts up with my bullshit. I often recall doting to her after I've truly messed up. She always forgives me. I help her feel loved when I know she feels lonely. Those, are the moments I cherish. The nights Jason would let his guard down and sleep with us for whatever reason that was bothering him. He was stubborn at times, he's still my little boy.

"BATMAN!!!" Jason cried. "is that you?!" HE'S ALIVE!!!

"where are you son?!!" I yelled to him searching for wherever he is. My heart beating faster and faster "is Y/N with you?!!"

"I'm over here! Hurry Mom's hurt really bad!!" he yelled, his voice frightened.

"keep talking!!" I ordered. It was quite ironic considering how much I tell him to be quiet.. Especially when he's cussing.

I run as fast as I can. She has to be alive. I can't fail them. He continued to tell me random things. His voice finally became louder. Alfred was finally back online after Joker had jammed the signal and gives me their exact location. I found board's and debris on top of them. I lean down to see Y/N protectively over Jason. He was in tears holding her and had his head rested on her arm. She was wounded greatly, unconscious but she is alive, burns were across her arms, her suit torn in different places, with her head and jaw bleeding. Jason had several scratches with small burns. Though what made my blood boil was the bruises the seemed endless. I could tell she was desperately trying hard to protect him.

"Dad!! You're h-here!!" he cried with relief. My heart leaps having heard what he called me.

"I'm gonna get you both out! DON'T MOVE!!" I ordered quickly removing the fallen debris and boards.

I lift both my wife and son into my arms. As Jason held onto me tightly. I run to take them into the Bat-mobile. I move Jason into the back seat. I tend to her head injury first. Her body was frighteningly limp. I look in the back seat little Robin was curled up in a ball with his face in his legs. He looked as scared as I feel. I look for any severe injuries that needed immediate attention. He was OK enough for the ride home. I drive to the Bat-cave. I began skidding the tires into the platform and park. I hurry taking my wife and laying her onto the stretcher. I tended to her wounds Alfred scanned her head.

"she's had ah severe concussion but she'll survive" Alfred assured

He and I bandage her wounds.

"is sh-she going to w-wake u-u-up" Jason asked his voice small and weak.

Alfred stepped to Jay placing his hand on his shoulder.

"she will in good time Master Jason. I believe it is best, I assist you with your boo boos"

He only nodded without a single word. I wanted to hold him. To beg him forgiveness, for not being able to save them any faster... But I don't. Knowing that doing so.. I'd break and I have to be strong.

Jason's P. O. V

After getting cleaned I wear my pajama shorts. Alfred tends to my burns. I feel my heart beating fast. We were trying to get out before the bomb went off. We got loose of our restraints and ran out. She knew we weren't going to make it from the explosion. When I gained consciousness she was holding me under herself to protect me. I remember shaking her trying wake her up.. But she didn't. I hear a knock on the door.

"come in" Alfred said.

The door opens I couldn't believe it was him. Our first meeting wasn't exactly friendly. I honestly thought he hated me for replacing him.

"it is quite good to see you Master Richard" Alfred said

"hey Alfred thanks for calling me. Hey Little-Wing! How you doin'? Heard you got ah little banged up" Dick said entering the room.

I remained silent. I'm too mad to say anything. As Alfred finished he patted my shoulder.

"there all ready for some well deserved slumber" Alfred said with a kind smile.

Alfred left the room Dick walked to my guitar and smiled playing a melody. How is he so OK? Doesn't he care that mom might die?

"I see you've been playing a lot, I'm proud" he said with a smile.

"you've been gone for over 4 months Dick. What the hell are you doing here?" I asked glaring at him.

"Jay.. I know you're mad at me. I know I haven't been there for you. I know it's hard to have so much pressure and worry that you could have done better. I promise Mom is going to be OK.. I promise.. She'll be OK"

"I lost my biological mom and I couldn't do shit about it! How are you so sure?! How are you so ok?!" I yelled to him my eyes shaking

His expression fell "you're not the only one little brother" he said with empathy "you want to know a secret... I'm scared to"

"I can't lose her" I admit defeat as my tears start to fall. She's my mom. I shake my head angry I'm not strong enough.

He sits on the bed and begins to rub my back "c'mere Little-Wing"

My older brother pulled me into ah protected hug. I squeeze him tightly needing to feel protected.

Bruce's P. O. V

I began to think about the times we've had. When I asked her to marry me and she said yes. I was so full of emotion but... I didn't cry. When she keeps me from going to far. The rare beautiful moments we have to only spend together. She held my hand tighter. My heart softened as I knew in that moment she's going to be OK.

"Robin?.... Son?..." she muttered, I touch her face

"Y/N, darling listen to me" I cup her face rubbing my thumbs on her cheeks "he's OK.. You're OK.. You're safe" my heart broke as my throat shakes from my emotions "I never want to see you hurt"

I let go of her hand. She looked at me and grabbed my collar pulling me into an embrace. She began to cry. I protectively held in her.

"shhh" I whisper

"ohhh Bruce"

She broke down sobbing I held her. She clung onto my cape, she was horrified. I had never heard her be so scared.

"shhh shhh" I mumbled to her kissing her in random places.

"where is my little boy?" she asked with ah genuine cry.

"he's in his room, he has some minor burns, a few bruises but you saved him from much of the explosion" I proudly said kissing her head

"I thought we we're going to d-die" she cried holding me tighter. "take me to bed so I can l-lay with you"

"I'm not leaving you. You are sleeping right here" I said, it's too dangerous to move her.

She sighed. I knew exactly what she wanted. I'd never felt so scared in my life. I'd go insane if anything ever happened to my soul mate.. To both my sons... To Alfred. To my family.

"I have.. I have to see him with my own eyes Bruce..." she pleaded brokenly.

"ok.." I kiss her head, I know I wouldn't be able to convince her otherwise.

I text Alfred to bring Jason into the Bat-cave if he's OK and of not to send a picture. The elevator door opens. I smiled to both of them. Grayson had his hand on his little brother's shoulder. Jason looks up to us his voice shaking.

"MOM!!!!" they both exclaimed

"hey boys" her lips trembling as she began to cry "are you ok Jay?"

He ran to Y/N and Jason hugged her, she hugged him securely. I look at, Grayson he was smiling with tears falling. He looks at me and for the first time.. In such a long time. He wasn't angered. Love Interests For Batgirl

I want to go through the best options for her instead of sticking her with Nightwing all the time.

First I'll start with my okay & itcks

I know people like Nightwing & Batgirl together. Sometimes they can be cute and good for each other. I really just like them as friends hell, they same to work pretty damn well as friends.

I'm also tired of them having her date/romantic with every guy in the batfamily

Batman & Batgirl

Just eww no, it was weird in the Animated Series/Movie (Killing Joke movie) and that one Lego Movie still weird till this day. BruceTimverse had her mess with him & Nightwing his adopted son.

Robin/Red Robin ( Tim Drake) & Batgirl

Honestly why? I know its not canon but, like out of all people why Tim?

Batwing (Luke Fox) & Batgirl

I mean they tried with this couple but honestly it was so damn boring. Truth be told Luke Fox (Batwing) he's lame to me.

Red Hood (Jason Todd) & Batgirl

They always try to push them together & it just feels weird doesn't really work at all. Even the non canon Joker(3 jokers) it doesn't feel right.

Like damn... who's next Duke, Alfred or Azrael?

Ted Kord (Blue Bettle II) My top pick

To me they just clicked with each other so well.

he really brought out the best qualities in her in a way that her other romances didn't.

He genuinely didn't care about the wheelchair. In fact, I noticed rereading some old Birds of Prey stories that he's pushing her wheelchair around at many moments. That shows something. Babs doesn't let anyone push her wheelchair. Not even Canary or Grayson. Slowly pushed past her emotional defenses.

He made her laugh. He was loyal to a fault. Drew her out of her brooding and depression without pushing. Supported her without trying to take over. Encouraged her to go after her interests and shared alot of the same interests.

During that time in BOP, Grayson treated her like something broken that he needed to fix. Ted treated her like she was an amazing person that he wanted to be with.

Jason Bard

I mean they got engaged to each other they were together for a long time ago. I can't remeber much about his couple but how deeply they care for each other showed.

Nick Gage

They used to date it was alright.

Sam Young

they got married in one contiunity so I wonder about they're relationship is like seems nice and healthy. I do remeber he is they mayor & she is the commisoner(In the Batman Beyond)

Steve Harris

In Future's End, do know how it started but when reading a bit they are so both smitten lol its beautiful.

I'd say Ted Kord is my pick for her I wish they gave Babs & Ted another try. If not Jason Bard or another hero that be cool just not Batwing that relationship had me on a snooze fest.

Today we get to (maybe) finally learn a little something about Empress Underg! Yeah, about time, am I right? What exactly inspires so much fear from her minions and yet such unwavering loyalty from Skearhead? What could she have possibly wanted from Elle before? And why does she now seek the Pretty Cure's demise? ...only one of these questions will probably be answered, but hey~!

BEAT TACTICA!!

Took way longer than I expected, but that's probably because I'm an idiot and decided to do every quest-

Anyways, full spoiler breakdown below the thing

Okay, so I called a lot of the twists for the third kingdom ahead of time. Like the second I saw Eri, I was like "She's gonna die," and when they kept covering up the ruler's name in static, I was like "It's Toshiro's shadow"

But like even though I kinda called it, those moments still hit me hard. Like I didn't think the creepy principal would push her in front of a train, or that she'd survive only to have her spirit broken.

And while I kinda saw the God thing coming too, I didn't think the Shadow was a fake created by him, or that Erina would turn out to be TOSHIRO'S PERSONA LIKE WHAT???

(Though that does mean that my whole concept of Arsène becoming his own person is now substantiated in canon, so that's neat)

Also the Velvet Room becomes a Train because shut up it's cool

The final kingdom was a bit of a slog, though probably because I'd been marathoning the entire game for several hours with no sleep, but still doing a boss rush, broken up by lengthy combat arenas is like... like the most padding that has ever padding'd.

Still I did it, beat all those refights, and even did the bonus quests to unlock everyone's ultimate skill which was SUPER NOT WORTH IT FOR EVERYONE BESIDES JOKER AND TOSHIRO BECAUSE LITERALLY ALL OF THEIR GUNS DO MORE DAMAGE

(And I'm pretty sure Joker would've been in the same boat if I grinded to get his best weapon)

Granted, that's my fault for not putting points into the amplifiers, and spending a lot of time fiddling with Personas to get the best weapons possible, but still like c'mon! Why would you ever want to spend like 75 SP for a big blast when I could just use my gun and do like 10-15 more damage??

Granted, the AOE on those attacks came in handy sometimes, but because by the time I unlocked them for everyone (because yes you still have to put points in for them after doing the quests), I was at the final boss, so there weren't a lot of enemies to blow up

Final boss was a good time though! Had some fun gimmicks, a cool design, actually made me think for a bit, didn't last too long, had great music, all the good stuff you'd want from a final boss. Certainly better than Midnight Suns final boss, I'll tell you that much-

AND THAT ENDING FINISHER HOLY SHOCK

I thought Strikers had a good ending with them doing an All Out Attack on the final boss, but this-!! OH MAN, this a whole other level of cool

Literally an entire shonen anime fight scene to cap the whole thing off, everyone gets a moment to shine, Joker uses his grappling hook in some very Spidey-esk maneuvers, Erina has a Super Saiyan moment, turning into her Persona form to blast away some gears, it is EVERYTHING I could've ever wanted.

The ending was really sweet too. I had a feeling Erina wouldn't be coming into reality, as much as I wanted her to, but they had a touching good bye, Toshiro exposes his father's crimes and breaks it off with his "fiance" on live TV, the team has a cute scene in Leblanc, and then after the credits-

ERI SHOWS UP

We don't get to see much of her sadly, nor much of their reunion, but it still really tugged at my heart strings, as all Persona games are apparently required by law to do now.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time with Tactica. Is it worth $60? Honestly not sure. It's definitely short for an RPG, but there's definitely some extra content to keep you coming back. I'm looking forward to replaying the game on hard whenever I eventually save up enough to get my own copy (gotta play that DLC at some point)

So, while I do recommend it, especially if you're into Tactics games, maybe try to get it on a sale if you're planning to get the DLC. $60 was already pushing it, but $80?? Yeah, no thanks-

Strikers is still my favorite spin off though. Doesn't even come close.
