the Dimitrescu's with their s/o with wings that they are big and fluffy and can protect them from cold
I cannot tell you just how much I love this.
I'm adding Donna too, if you don't mind.
Also, reader is a Mulawin, a fictional species in the Philippines who can transform into a winged humanoid by stabbing the back with a feather (That's just how much I remember, forgive my goldfish memory.) Except the one for Alcina's.
So here you go!
Alcina Dimitrescu / Lady Dimitrescu
Flying has always been a joy. Nothing can ever get you to come down from the skies where freedom is your companion.
That is, until you saw her. The first time that you were flying through the village, you crashed into a big tree when you saw her. She caught your eye.
She was also the one who found you, passed away like an idiot. She was also the one who nursed you back to health, your wings all bandaged up.
You move them and she was entranced. It was the first time she saw someone like you. Someone with such big wings.
After that, it took you three days to recover your dignity but you stayed in the Castle for weeks.
You've never been grounded in your whole life before. And she... She was the reason.
You flew off in a fit of rage. Because how dare she. How dare she capture your heart? How dare she steal your attention from your beloved freedom?
You stop as you look upon the whole castle... You can fly but you have never thought to explore it. And you realize, yes you do have freedom... But in exchange, you have no place to call home. No one to call family. You were just drifting from place to place.
You touch down and the three girls cry as they hug you. They thought you left. That you left them behind.
"I could never." You say with a sad smile. "How could I do that to the most sweetest girls in the world?" They hug you again and you look at Alcina. Her eyes were unreadable as she goes inside the Castle.
You tucked the girls in for the night. Then fidget nervously in front of Alcina's room... She saw you. You glared at her before you went outside and flew.
You knock and a small 'come in' can be heard from the door. You open it slowly and see Alcina in her night gown, getting ready to sleep. She glances at you then continues. You sigh.
"Did you know I wasn't born with these wings?" You look down as she turns to you. "I was an experiment. A guinea pig." She frowns at you. "It's why I love the sky... And the freedom. The way that the wind blows through my body as I fly through the skies." You sigh. "I'm sorry that I flew away so suddenly... I just." You turn to her with a sad smile. "It reminded me of being imprisoned."
"Staying here?"
"No... Staying grounded."
After your confession, Alcina held you tight. And you stayed at the Castle. Alcina doesn't care if sometimes you disappear suddenly, she knew how important flying is to you now.
Donna Beneviento
Observation has always been a part of your life. Even before you had discovered that you can transform into a Mulawin.
You stumbled upon the village and stayed for a week because of how isolated it was. It reminded you of your own home.
But then you met Donna and she made you stay. She didn't know that you were a Mulawin so you confessed it to her.
She accepted you with all her heart.
It was such a relief to open your wings in front of another person and knowing that they wouldn't do anything to hurt you.
One day, it was snowing heavily so you and Donna decided to stay in instead of going out into the village, she even made sure to make her gardener go home early.
"It's so cold." Donna says and you knew that it was serious since she didn't even use Angie to say her thoughts out loud.
You get your feather and summon your wings. You hug her and she blushes. She was going to turn to face you when your wings wrapped around her. She sighs in relief and leans on you.
"Thank you." She mumbles and you hum as you stare out the window. Before you knew you it, the both of you had fallen asleep cuddling each other.
Bela Dimitrescu
You were a guest of Mother Miranda and was given to the Dimitrescus as a guest.
Of course, the woman knew about your species and she hired you to help restore Eva... you had no intention of helping her but that's something for another day.
You were reading inside the library when Bela stumbles upon you. You smile at her and that was the start of the friendship between the both of you.
But then the day comes when Ethan came to the Village. And almost every one of your instincts are telling you to run.
You couldn't abandon them though so you stayed, hoping to convince the three sisters to at least hide somewhere safe. But they wouldn't listen to you. You panic when Ethan gets inside so you get your sword that was given by your Father.
Before you even knew it, though there was a shattering sound and you hear Bela's scream. You rushed to her side and stop Ethan by knocking him out. Then you shield her with your wings. She was stunned by their colors but it made you annoyed.
"Go somewhere safe, damn it!" She snaps out of it and nods at you before going to the library.
You sigh as you take care of Ethan and get Rose's vial. You then help him get the other ones.
You join forces with Karl who was actually... reasonable?
The three of you get Rose back from Miranda and you reunite with Bela.
She hugs you and you hug her back.
Cassandra Dimitrescu
You were captured by Karl on one of his expeditions to find ways to kill Mother Miranda. He wanted to get your help but you don't want to kill anyone anymore.
You were so done being exploited by humans. You wanted to hide your wings but he wouldn't let you. When you were unconscious, he brought you to the castle, hoping that they would be good hosts to you.
And they were, for starters, Alcina freed you and you hid your wings. It was exhausting to maintain their form for that long after all.
You got along with the three daughters, most particularly Cassandra, who shared your interest in Art.
You were amazed by everything that she creates, even if it was just sketches.
One day, it was snowing and the three girls were huddle in the library with the fireplace. You take pity on them so you make your wings appear and hug them. Bela and Daniela thanks you while Cassandra just hugs you, no words needed.
Ever since then, if it was just a bit cold, Cassandra would come running for you and you chuckle as you hug her.
Daniela Dimitrescu
You were the known bird person in the Village and you were close to the four lords. Often becoming their only visitors every week.
You were particularly close to Alcina, her having shown her true form to you and you sharing your bloody past.
One day, Alcina asked you for a favor since she needed to be out on a business trip, she asked you to look after her daughters.
"Are you sure?? You do know I'm like only a year older than them, right?" She assures you that you're the perfect person for the job and she does trust Bela... but Cassandra and Daniela can be that rambunctious.
When you meet Bela, she gives instructions that you look after Daniela while she looks after Cassandra. You agree and she thanks you.
So you spend everyday with Daniela, even telling her stories from your past.
One day, it was a particularly cold day when she decided to go outside the village. Saying she wanted to explore.
But then it suddenly rained so you quickly make your wings appear and shield her. Both from the cold and water.
"Stick close to me." You say and she just nods, uncharacteristically quiet as you two go back to the castle.
Bela was so worried that she hugs Daniela, happy that you were both safe. Cassandra though, she takes note of the unusual attitude of their youngest.
When Daniela was alone, Cassandra surprises her and smiles.
"You like Y/N, don't you?" Daniela blushes and tries to deny it but sighs. She talks to Cass all about you.
What they didn't know was you were listening in... It was an accident.
When they finish talking, you appear and confess to Daniela that you felt the same way.
A/N:
This took way too long since I started playing Genshin Impact again.
Anyways, I only have two more requests to go and I'm going to start writing the Loving You sequel.
Comments and thoughts are always welcome!
Thank you for reading!
If you can, please buy me a coffee.

Chapter 2: u guys r moding my night :(
There was chaos in the Wayne Manor. This was nothing unusual, of course, and today it even seemed to be surprisingly tame. But it was chaos nonetheless.
Timothy Drake-Wayne careened down the spiral staircase, catching himself with a well-timed front flip handspring, and skidded to a halt in the kitchen. Alfred briefly paused to look up from where he was preparing dough for a batch of homemade pasta, then offered the boy a smile and a greeting.
“Good evening, Master Drake. Dinner won’t be ready for another half-hour, I’m afraid.” Tim had opened his mouth to reply when a growl echoed from the nearby ballroom.
Jason Todd-Wayne sprinted into the kitchen brandishing a nerf gun. “There you are, replacement. You won’t get away with beating me this time.” He pulled back the reloader of the play-gun, making a threatening click ring through the kitchen.
“I’m afraid you are both late to the party,” Alfred calmly announced as he mixed ingredients together. “Miss Cain has been here for the past five minutes.”
Cass Cain-Wayne indeed poked her head out from where she had been perched beneath the bar. She gave her brothers a shit-eating grin and wiggled her fingers as way of a cheeky greeting.
Tim gave a groan as he and Jason begrudgingly handed some money over to their sister. “She cheats.” Cass stuck her tongue out at that. “Besides, racing you here was just an excuse to get my mind off waiting for midnight.”
“And because Alfred is the only one polite enough to actually listen to you rave about that stupid game,” Jason scoffed, sitting down at the bar to watch Alfred work.
“--thought I heard voices in the kitchen, oh there you are, little wing!” Dick Grayson-Wayne’s cheery voice came from the foyer, increasing in pitch as he spotted Jason and swept him up into a tight hug.
Barbara Gordon wheeled herself in not too long after, chuckling at the squirming Jason and delighted older brother.
Meanwhile Tim, who had taken offense to Jason’s insinuation, was reassuring Alfred that if he wanted the boys to leave him be he only ever had to ask. “It’s just that I’m so excited for the launch tonight, and you know B is too busy to hear about it.”
Jason had finally muscled his way out of Dick’s embrace as the latter’s attention focused on his youngest brother. “What launch are you talking about?” Dick asked, giving Cass a side hug.
“Oh, tonight is the release of this new VRMMORPG game called Mindscape!” Tim practically bounced as Dick came over to give him his hug too.
Dick gave Barbara a confused glance. “I know some of those words,” he nodded slowly. “So what’s got you so excited? Video games come out all the time.”
Tim rolled his eyes as he sat down beside Jason on the barstools. “Well yeah, but this game has groundbreaking virtual reality tech. Supposedly, the textures took five years and a team of almost 1000 artists.”
Jason put Tim into a headlock and said casually, “I’m surprised you haven’t heard replacement talking about this yet. He kinda won’t shut up about it.”
Cass nodded her head in solemn agreement while Tim struggled to get out of Jason’s grasp.
“Such are the woes of moving out.” Dick shrugged. “Sounds crash though, got room for one more?”
Tim finally shoved Jason off. “I actually bought enough passes that we can all play if you want,” he gave each of his siblings the biggest puppy-dog eyes he could manage.
Barbara snorted even as Dick pumped his fist in the air beside her. She wheeled herself up to the bar to pinch Jason, who was poised to jab his fingers into Tim’s sides. Jason yelped and glared at her as she said, “Sorry Timmy, I’d rather let someone else be the guinea pig for this new kind of tech. Besides, Dad will worry if I let myself get sucked into pouring too many hours into this.”
“Papa Gordon is a force to be reckoned with,” Dick attested earnestly. “Jay?” he prompted.
“Absolutely not,” Jason answered immediately. Tim was quick to protest. “But why? We could spend more time together! It’ll be good team-building.” Jason’s face soured at that.
Dick leaned in and stage-whispered, “Do I have to tell B to force you into family bonding? You know he’ll make you do it.”
Cass covered her silently laughing mouth with one hand as Jason threw his hands up in the air. “Fine, don’t get Bruce involved. I’ll play your stupid game,” he finally relented. Tim grinned at his win, then cast a hopeful look at Cass.
She pulled a face and signed No thank you. Better things to do than watch VR pornos.
Tim’s face blushed profusely as he opened his mouth to protest, but was cut off by Jason’s cackling. Even Alfred cracked a smile while he rolled the dough onto the ravioli press.
Once Jason quieted down, Tim crossed his arms and said, “Suit yourself. Looks like it’ll be no-girls-allowed anyway.”
“Guess we’d better tell Cassie that, Timbo,” Dick wiggled his eyebrows suggestively, which Tim elected to ignore.
“Speaking of suits,” Alfred said while seamlessly spreading filling in the ravioli and placing another sheet on top of the press, “aren’t you boys going to miss the premiere if it is indeed at midnight?”
Tim looked imploringly at the two girls. “You wouldn’t be willing to trade shifts for your favorite brother, would you?”
* * *
Wally West strolled out of the zeta tube and into the Justice League’s satellite, known to himself and the other heroes as The Watchtower. He was dressed in a casual NASA t-shirt and jeans, slurping a smoothie, and playing a game on his phone.
The sound of someone clearing their throat made him look up. He was greeted with the sight of his old team, Aqualad, Superboy, Miss Martian, Rocket, Zatanna, and Artemis, waiting impatiently. They were dressed in full hero attire-- he didn’t even realize Artemis still had her costume-- and looked to him expectantly.
“Hey guys, what’s poppin’?” Wally grinned and gave his friends a lazy chin jerk.
“‘What’s poppin’?’ Babe, are you serious? You told us to meet here ASAP for an emergency. So you can tell us what exactly is ‘poppin’.” Ah yes, his Spitfire. Artemis Crock still wasn’t afraid to give him a piece of her mind. But this time it looked like everyone else was on her side too, as they nodded in agreement with her emphatic air quotes.
“Oh, uh yeah, Mindscape is coming out tonight!” He set his smoothie down on the table. “I got us all passes and I’m super stoked for the launch. It’s got this super cool new VR tech that’s basically being released for the first time ever. I got the equipment through my internship, so we’re all set! You guys are totally coming right?” He made finger guns at his increasingly exasperated friends.
Artemis facepalmed. Kaldur’ahm raised his eyebrows in that I’m disappointed in you but I’m not going to say it way of his and said, “Wally, with you and Artemis retired from the life, understand that we took this to be a literal emergency and rushed to your aid. Do not abuse our good intentions.”
“Seriously West, I have a lot on my plate right now!” Rochelle Ervin was also, apparently, a little upset with him. “You could’ve said it was about a dumb game.”
The speedster tried to do damage control with some lighthearted humor. “Hey guys, stay whelmed. I get it, I probably should have given a few more deets about this very-much-not-dumb game, but do you know how many candy bars I had to eat to win these passes?”
“This is why you’ve been spending so much on junk food?” Oh, he was in big trouble with Artemis now. “You probably didn’t have to eat all of them, babe.”
M’gann M’orzz, Connor Kent, and Zatanna Zatara looked similarly annoyed. Well, the girls did. Connor just looked like his usual brand of annoyed, which was honestly a small victory.
“So...” Wally felt a little sheepish now, “who wants in?”
The rest of the group exchanged a look. Artemis was the first to speak up. “Well, you’ve already invested too much of our money in this to turn back now.” She walked up to him and poked a finger at his chest. “But you owe me so many dinners for this.”
He grinned triumphantly. “Deal!”
Rochelle spoke up next. “Me and my plate don’t need any more helpings, thank you very much. I’ll see y’all at the next team reunion!” She flew out through the zeta tube.
Kaldur clapped him on the shoulder. “If you need any assistance, I will be there. But for now I am running Atlantis in Aquaman’s stead while he is off-world, and I must return to my duties.” He then bid the rest of the team farewell and stepped through the zeta tube.
“Haha, he said ‘duties.’” Wally said once he’d left, then winced as Artemis smacked his arm lightly. Lightly for her. Rubbing his arm, he looked imploringly at his other friends.
M’gann and Conner looked deep in a telepathic conversation, which was just awkwardly intense eye contact for onlookers. Zatanna crossed her arms and sighed, “Fine, why not. I didn’t have plans for the weekend anyway. Lead the way to your chocolate factory, Charlie.”
Connor, having caught the tail end of the conversation, looked confused at the reference. He shrugged and said, “I’m in, could be fun.”
M’gann gave her friends an apologetic smile. “Sorry guys, my uncle needs help back on Mars. There’s tensions between the white and green martians again, and he really needs me there to get it under control.”
She gave Connor a peck on the cheek and left to board the nearby Bioship.
“And then there were four,” Wally said with a smile. “Now let’s go make you guys some avatars!”
* * *
Bart Allen could hardly contain his excitement. Scratch that, he couldn’t contain his excitement! “Bouncing off the walls” may be an exaggeration for most people, but he was not most people. Being the grandson of The Flash certainly had its perks, and being able to literally bounce off the walls was one of them.
The cause of his excitement, his friends Timothy Drake-Wayne and Wally West, had just called to ask if Bart wanted extra passes to the premiere of the biggest video game of the decade. And uh, yeah duh he wanted them! He already had one he’d bought for himself, but bringing four extra friends? So totally crash.
He opened up his phone and pulled up the group chat titled Badass Babes.
CrashBandicoot: hey bitchez n babez (u kno who u r), u ready 4 the best videogame of the yr to drop?!
BlueMenace: ese, do you HAVE to type like that?
WonderBabe: yea it’s super annoying
CrashBandicoot: gtta go fast babez
CrashBandicoot: now answer the question
GreenMenace: oh i heard about that! mindscape, right? isn’t it some vr game
CrashBandicoot: yes! nd i got extra tix, so come ovr to cave
GirlBoss: No can do, got research tomorrow!
MaleWife: you always have research bae. sorry little speedster, gotta drive the lady to work
CrashBandicoot: u guys r moding my night :(
BlueMenace: totally not a word but I’ve got you cariño, be there in an hour
WonderBabe: ah what the heck, I’ve got nothing better to do
GreenMenace: always down to whoop ur ass in video games
CrashBandicoot: u wish
CrashBandicoot: roy?
Ginger1 is typing...
WonderBabe: it’ll be fun! more ~mingling~ with kids our age
Ginger2: Hold on, give him some time
Ginger1 is typing...
BlueMenace: Roy, I can pick you up on my way in if you want
Ginger1 has stopped typing.
Ginger2: Um, he says he’ll meet you guys there
Ginger2: He may have destroyed his phone with his “non-typing” hand
GreenMenace: pog
WonderBabe: see u guys soon!
Bart pumped his fist, then ran at top speed to his boyfriend Jaime’s house, where it looked like he was doing homework. Seriously, on a Friday night? Bart had absolutely no qualms about whisking him into his arms and making for the nearest zeta tube.
“Woah Bart, I said I needed an hour!” Jaime protested.
Bart rolled his eyes. “Yeah, but you definitely don’t have anything due tonight, and we have to make your character online before the launch!”
Jaime just looked resigned as they sped into the zeta tube. He knew what he had signed up for.

DOTTIE’S BATFAM FIC RECS
hi!! so, no one asked for this but,,, I wanted to make one anyway! I really love the batfam a lot and I see a lot of ppl in the fandom wishing it was easier to find good fics. this is by no means all of them but they are some of my faves, generally not too fanon-y! all fics are gen/family fluff with little to no ships (which are not bat/cest).
feel free to message/ask me about triggers if you’re unsure!! and lmk if I forgot to tag anyone ❤️

---
just hold a smile by RecklessWriter
https://archiveofourown.org/works/22777705
Summary: That's the thing about smiles, Dick thinks. If you flash the right one, no one knows there's something more going on inside. Five times Dick faked a smile and one time someone saw through it.
My Thoughts: Dick & others, including Tim and Cass. Dick is really good at hiding his feelings from others, and I love how in this fic, a lot of times, he’s hiding them to “protect” whoever it is
(more under the cut!)
life, if well lived by CaptainOzone

---
The View From Jade by lowflyingfruit
https://archiveofourown.org/works/11329791/chapters/25359972
Summary: Being transported to the past is not the sort of thing one normally expects. But this having happened, and with no easy way back, Jason's determined to make the most of it. Though the Bat still stalks Gotham's streets, the city's crime is run by the mobs instead of the rogues. There's no Joker yet. There's no Robin. Maybe there shouldn't be.
My Thoughts: Jason & Dick, and also Bruce somewhere in there too. this is SO! GOOD! I absolutely love Jason’s voice, and Dick is so in character. plus Bruce and Alfred are awesome as well!!!
---
The Birds Who Smile by Raberba girl / @raberbagirl on tumblr
https://archiveofourown.org/works/12972324/chapters/29656290
Summary: "Dark Nights: Metal" AU where Bruce adopts three of the Robins who once belonged to the Batman Who Laughs.
My Thoughts: I think this was the first fic that introduced me to Duke, actually! and while there are a LOT of characters involved, they’re all pretty great and realistic. they have their moments to shine and it’s,,, *chef’s kiss*
---
The Thing about Apples and Trees by Cdelphiki / @cdelphiki on tumblr
https://archiveofourown.org/works/22192747
Summary: When Jason agreed to let Bruce adopt him, he thought that meant Jason felt happy and safe in Bruce's home. But when Jason's nightmares only increased, and his panic attacks and meltdowns started happening more often, Bruce was at a complete loss for what to do. But then, Jason finally opened up to him, and he was able to quell some of Jason's worse fears. Perhaps a midnight chat and a few hugs wouldn't fix everything, but it was a step in the right direction.
My Thoughts: this is part of a series but might be okay to read on it’s own? tho really I suggest the entire series, it’s amazing. but this fic specifically has great kid Jason characterization (and also made me cry, I think!)
---
Kitten by lurkinglurkerwholurks / @lurkinglurkerwholurks on tumblr
https://archiveofourown.org/works/18194294
Summary: Bruce opened his mouth, prepared to give the unemotional, no-nonsense explanation he had cobbled together between his walk to the car and now. Instead, his mouth went dry and nothing came out.
“Bruce?”
Bruce was saved from answering by the thin cry that cut through the silence. He winced, then reached back with one hand to shush the dimpled, kicking legs.
“Bruce, tell me I did not just hear what I thought I heard.”
My Thoughts: so so so cute! plus the gangs all here!!!
---
Yes Ma’am by lurkinglurkerwholurks
https://archiveofourown.org/works/22004695
Summary: Jason had shuffled into the bedroom and had just finished pulling his shirt over his head when he paused, arms still trapped in the fabric. A pair of eyes glowed at him from the bed, reflecting the dim light from the hall.
My Thoughts: I also have to include this one bc it was a gift to me, and it’s so cute & angsty & just dkjsfsdjkhfksjah I love it so much

The D-Word by AutumnHobbit / @autumnhobbit on tumblr
https://archiveofourown.org/works/9597686
Summary: "See, Tim?" Jason called over his shoulder sardonically. "Dad agrees with me."
He turned back to his food for a moment before the thought suddenly occurred to him that the Cave had gone near silent. He cautiously glanced back at the others. Alfred was still working away at stitching Tim up. Tim looked a little pale and sweaty, but he was glancing over at Jason with a look that was a mixture of concern and confusion. Bruce was standing stock-still, seemingly staring off into space.
My Thoughts: I constantly reread this when I want funny and then heart breaking Jason & Bruce feels. I always know what’s coming and it STILL GETS ME
---
baby wonder by drakefeathers / @drakefeathers on tumblr
https://archiveofourown.org/works/1887807

---
a hundred miles through the desert by acrobats
https://archiveofourown.org/works/18197330/chapters/43045388
Summary: Finding himself nearly three decades into the past hadn't been part of Jason's plans for the day, but he could manage. Having no idea how he got there, no clear path home and a recently orphaned Bruce Wayne determined to drag Jason into his search for his parents' killer - that might be a little more complicated.
My Thoughts: ughhh this is such good Jason content (and such amazing Jason voice, too) I adore it
---
oh, where do I begin? by LazuliQuetzal / @lazuliquetzal on tumblr
https://archiveofourown.org/works/21988693
Summary: “No, no, nothing’s wrong,” Jason says. “We’re a-okay. Just peachy. Good times.”
“Oh,” Duke says, lamely, working himself out of crisis mode. There’s an awkward silence for a moment before he speaks up again. “Why did you call?”
“Right, right," Jason mumbles, which seemed a little out of character to Duke. His sort-of wayward brother was generally intimidating, even when he wasn't trying to be. "Uh, Dick said that you had a guinea pig when you were younger. How do you take care of a guinea pig?”
_____
AKA, not-exactly accidental guinea pig acquisition
My Thoughts: this was ALSO a gift to me but it’s so funny and sweet and there’s amazing Duke & Jason bonding so I absolutely must rec it
---
Latchkey by goldkirk / @goldkirk on tumblr
https://archiveofourown.org/works/21672928/chapters/51685639
Summary: or, How Tim Drake Found A Family, Became A Photojournalist, Learned To Love Coffee, and Grew Up, not necessarily in that order.
Tim Drake is thirteen, runs the famous BatWatch blog that has spiraled hilariously out of control, has absentee parents that suit his purposes just fine, is training himself to run the streets at night, and is doing absolutely peachy, thank you.
Alfred and Jason disagree, and get Dick and Bruce involved in figuring out their weird nextdoor neighbor kid’s life. Everything goes uphill from there.
My Thoughts: this is SO GOOOOD the Tim feels are amazing!!! the family interactions!!! everything! sdkjfhsjdfhksdhfajh
---
Blood in the Water by MishaBerry
https://archiveofourown.org/works/12734052/chapters/29037474
Summary: We all do stupid things when we are lonely, and in faraway lands, we hardly expect the consequences to follow us. Bruce certainly never thought twice about an American woman in Jaipur after one night with her. He hardly expected to see her ever again.
The universe, on the other hand, had different ideas, and the tides of time and chance brought Tim Drake to Bruce's life over and over again.
My Thoughts: this one is more AU than a lot of the others on here but it’s a lot of fun!! it has Tim & Damian & Jason feels, plus the rest of the family on a smaller scale
---
so these are just SOME, and honestly you should go and check out other works done by all of these authors!! also would like to suggest reading the fics of @renecdote , @caramelmachete , @redtruthed , @rredarrow , and @schweeeppess !!!

In Sickness And Health
Quill knew Scott was sick before the younger man even woke up. He was running a fever that concerned the god to the point that he asked Bruce to come up and check on him. He could have called Stephen but the man had his hands full with seven kids on a daily basis. Bruce just had a Norse legend and the occasional time a member of the team got hurt. He told Quill it was just a common bug and though Scott's fever was a little high, that it wasn't anything to worry about unless it went up. So Quill left Scott sleeping upstairs with Emir and he went down to make some coffee. One of the few things he was allowed to do.
He had to wait until Cassie got up which thankfully wasn't much longer after he got up. Scott was the only one who wasn't a morning person, and he had even more of an excuse since he was sick. When Cassie came downstairs still half asleep and in her pajamas, Quill raised an eyebrow when he found her wearing an oversized t-shirt that went down to her thighs. No bottoms that he was aware of either but he wasn't about to check.
"Is that my shirt?"
"Mine now." She mumbles and opens the fridge.
"So my husband hates when I wear a shirt and my daughter steals them to use as pajamas." Quill snorts and drinks some of his coffee.
"At least they get used."
"Can't say that about con--"
"Ugh! No! Shut up, it's too early for that!" Cassie smacks his arm before digging some things out for breakfast. "What do you want for breakfast?"
"Whatever is fine. Your dad is sick though, so you think you can make him something when he wakes up?" Quill sighs. "I'd do it myself but...you know."
Cassie nods. "Yeah. Is he okay?"
"Bruce says he'll be fine and Emir is with him."
"Emir is always with him." Cassie rolls her eyes. "Like Flynn is with you."
They both look down at Quill's leg where Flynn had attached himself to the god's sweatpants as soon as he got up. The kit fortunately spent some time with Emir now that the tiger was here, but he was still very clingy with Quill and the tiger was very unlikely to leave the bedroom today. Scott needed his attention more than Flynn did. Cassie started to make some eggs and bacon after putting her hair up and Quill grabbed the orange juice from the fridge and sat down at the table while waiting for breakfast. He mindlessly fiddles on his phone and takes an occasional sip of coffee until a plate full of food is placed in front of him and he smiles at Cassie.
"Thanks Sunshine." Quill puts his phone away and pours her some orange juice as she sits down.
"You're welcome." She had also put some food in Flynn's bowl at some point so the kit had jumped off Quill's leg to go eat. "You have work today?"
"Nope. Gonna be a couch potato and keep an eye on your dad. Would have taken the day off if I did."
"Sounds like a plan." Cassie agrees and eats some of the hash browns she had also made. "I didn't have any plans today and I want to help take care of Dad."
Quill sighs with relief. "Oh thank god. I was worried about food."
The two look up when they hear the elevator arrive on the floor and Maggie and Paxton step out. Quill looks at them in surprise because he hadn't been expecting them and neither Cassie nor Scott had mentioned anything. Cassie looked just as surprised.
"Mom! What are you two doing here?" Cassie asks.
"We told your dad we were coming to visit for the weekend. Did he forget?" Maggie asks.
"Probably." Cassie gets up with her plate and Paxton sputters and covers his eyes.
"Cassie, maybe you should put some pants on?" He suggests.
"I have shorts on."
"I was wondering about that." Quill says and shovels the rest of his breakfast into his mouth before getting up with his plate. "Just letting you guys know that Scotty is sick but you're welcome to the room you used before."
"Alright. Thank you." Maggie turns toward the stairs and screams.
Quill looks over in alarm and finds Emir at the top of the stairs and growling at Maggie and Paxton. Before he can race over and stop the tiger from trying to pounce on the supposed intruders, Scott shuffles out of the bedroom in his pajamas and pats Emir's head.
"'s okay. Be good." Scott mumbles and then looks at the stairs reluctantly.
"Baby, go back to bed. I'll come check on you in a little bit and Cass will make you something to eat." Quill says.
Scott never looked so relieved about not having to climb or descend stairs, and went back into the bedroom without a fuss. Quill was pretty sure that he didn't even realize that Maggie and Paxton were there. The younger man looked miserable and Quill made a mental note to find some medicine or go buy some. Emir followed Scott back into the room and their visitors slowly turned their heads to look at Quill.
"So we have a tiger now." Quill says. "He's harmless as long as you don't hurt Scott and he knows you're okay."
All four of them cringe when they hear the unmistakable sound of vomiting, and Quill dashes up the stairs two at a time. When he steps into the bedroom, he catches a glimpse of Emir's tail in the bathroom doorway and walks over to peek in, finding Scott with his head in the toilet. The tiger was chuffing softly and nudging Scott with his muzzle, but Quill had to direct him out of the bathroom so he could get to his spouse. Scott had since stopped puking and was laying on the floor looking a little pale.
"Feeling any better?" Quill kneels down and checks his temperature, glad to see it hadn't risen.
"Too hot…" Scott moans.
"How about we get your pajamas off and get you back in bed?" Quill suggests. "Cass can make you some soup and I'll bring it up with some juice."
"Ginger ale and crackers." Scott mumbles as Quill scoops him up and stands back up.
"I can do that. Want your clothes off?"
"Nuh...cold."
Quill carries Scott back to bed, and as he gets him back under the covers, Emir hops back onto the bed and lays next to Scott. Any other day, Quill would have kicked him off the bed and cuddled with Scott, but since Maggie and Paxton were there, he had to play host. Something he was kind of terrible at but they were good people. Scott was in no condition to do it either. Quill would manage with Cassie's help.
"I'll be right back with crackers and soda," Quill kisses his forehead and pulls a wastebasket closer.
"Thanks…" Scott mumbles quietly.
The poor guy looked miserable and Quill wished he could heal his illness, but even if his powers could do that, he was still learning about them. He wasn't about to use his husband like a guinea pig to figure it out. He met Maggie right outside their bedroom and he raises an eyebrow when she smiles up at him.
"What?"
"I'm just glad to see he has someone to take care of him." Maggie admits softly.
"Scotty can take care of himself." Quill says and Maggie shakes her head.
"That's not what I mean. Sometimes he gets so focused on other people that he forgets about himself. Scott's a people pleaser...sometimes to a fault. He has a good heart but some people take advantage of it."
Quill sighs and nods. "Yeah. I've definitely noticed that."
"While I'm glad about that…" she suddenly reaches up and grabs Quill by the ear and pulls his head down.
"Ow!"
"I just found out that my daughter has powers! How did this happen?" Maggie says firmly and tugs the god down the stairs by his ear.
Well now Quill knew where Cassie learned this from. He may be a lot stronger than Maggie, but some part of him didn't dare resist when his ear was being held like he was a naughty child. It was funny when Cassie did it to the boys, but not so much when her mother did it to him. This was his husband's ex too so it was somehow worse.
"Mom! Let him go! It was an accident!" Cassie sighs as she comes out of her room.
Properly dressed to Paxton's relief.
"How did you even find out anyway?" Quill rubs his ear when Maggie finally releases him. "She's managed to keep her identity secret and has hardly used them."
"Stephen told me." The woman says flatly. "I talk to him too you know."
"He couldn't tell you how it happened though?" Quill complains and flinches when Maggie holds her hand out to threaten to pinch his ear again.
"I accidentally broke one of Dad's vials." Cassie explains. "They should have turned me into goop but they just turned me into a baby and when I got back to normal, my genes mutated."
Maggie frowns. "Are you okay? Any problems?"
"Mom and Bruce both checked and said I'm completely healthy. They're not worried."
"And what about fighting?"
"I avoid it unless absolutely necessary. I stay home with the girls." Cassie says.
"We're trying to keep her safe just like always." Quill finally says.
"We trust you and Scott," Paxton says. "We were just surprised to find out. Why didn't you tell us yourselves?"
"We meant to. Really." Quill says and Cassie rolls her eyes.
"I could've told you too...and honestly, Dad has been such an airhead lately that he forgot to tell us you were visiting."
Maggie and Paxton look at them and they both nod before changing the subject. Quill was glad they weren't legitimately upset about Cassie's newfound powers, just that they had to hear about it from someone besides them. They were even happier when their daughter didn't seem inclined to join their avenging unless she needed to. Cassie would use her powers to protect the Stark girls.
Quill also, fortunately, remembered Scott's request and went to the kitchen to get some crackers and ginger ale and took them up to his spouse while Cassie and even Maggie set about to make him some homemade soup. Scott was asleep when Quill got back to the bedroom, so he set the crackers and soda on the nightstand and even got some fever reducer from the bathroom to add to the snacks. He set two by the soda, put the bottle back in the medicine cabinet, and kissed Scott's temple before he left and went back downstairs. He found the girls still in the kitchen, and Paxton was in the living room watching tv. So Quill grabs a couple beers from the fridge and joins him.
"So how long are you two staying?" Quill asks as he holds out a beer.
"Just the weekend." Paxton accepts the beer with a thanks. "I have to be back at work on Monday."
"Oh, well, don't be afraid to do...you know." Quill winks. "The walls are soundproof--ow!" Quill rubs his head after Cassie throws an apple at his head.
"Papa! You and Dad are bad enough!"
Quill cackles and picks up the apple to take a bite out of it. "Thanks for the apple Sunshine."
Cassie groans and turns her attention back to the chicken noodle soup she and her mom are making. Paxton was clearing his throat in discomfort, and it made Quill preen. It was always fun to make the man squirm, and usually Scott would laugh with him about it later but he would have to enjoy it by himself this time. He could still tell Scott when he got better but he had a feeling it wouldn't be the same. Last time Maggie and Paxton visited, Scott and Quill went into detail about certain positions and the other couple looked like they wanted to disappear through the floor.
So it was fun when they visited. The reactions they got from Steve and Bucky on the other hand were pretty good too but they could traumatize them whenever they wanted.
"Uh...Quill? What is your fox doing?" Paxton asks and points over at the kit.
Flynn was...well...running around like his tail was on fire. It was something he did that Cassie fondly called the "zooms" and they could never figure out why he did it. Their floor actually had plenty of space for Flynn to run around, but every once in a while he did this. Then he'd stop and dig at the carpet which got Quill to lean forward and clap his hands loudly to stop him, and then he finally jumped up on the couch and plopped tiredly on Quill's lap.
"Beats the hell out of me." Quill shrugs and takes a sip of his beer. "He's a spaz."
"And the...the tiger doesn't try to eat him?"
"Nope. Emir actually grooms him and takes care of him."
"How did you even get him?" Maggie asks from the kitchen.
"Papa saved him from the circus." Cassie frowns. "Emir has scars from the cruelty they showed him. The tent caught fire and Papa saved him and Emir wanted to stay."
"He doesn't try to attack you either?" Paxton asks.
"No. He mainly sticks with Dad anyway."
Quill looks up toward the bedroom. "You know, part of me likes to think he saw that Scott had scars too so he wanted to keep him safe."
Maggie snorts humorously. "Leave it to Scott to attract a god and a tiger to protect him."
"They both like to sleep on him too." Cassie laughs.
"How does he not suffocate?" Paxton mumbles curiously.
"Very carefully." Quill says as he gets up and takes the bowl from Cassie when the soup is finished.
He walks up to his and Scott's room and smiles when he finds the younger man sitting against his pillows and munching on crackers while watching tv. Emir was, of course, laying happily with his head in Scott's lap and chuffing whenever he pet his head or side.
"Hey babe. Brought some soup that Cassie and Maggie made." Quill says and Scott looks at him in confusion.
"Maggie?" Then realization dawns on him. "Oh god, I forgot they were coming to visit!"
"It's alright. They'd rather you worry about getting better than about them." Quill walks over and sets the soup down. "How was your nap?"
"It was okay. Feel less dead." Scott sniffles and carefully picks up the soup.
"Well I'll come cuddle with you later alright?"
"Okay. I've got Emir in the meantime." Scott pats the tiger again and the beast chuffs happily.
"Need anything else?"
"No. I don't think so. I'm good."
Quill smiles. "Alright…and I'm traumatizing Paxton so I'll tell you all about it later."
"Ooohhh! Tell him about the time on the ferris wheel!" Scott says with a grin and Quill cackles.

with her sweetened breath
AO3 Characters: Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, Jason Todd, Stephanie Brown, Barbara Gordon, Cassandra Cain, Damian Wayne
Summary: With the threat of an airborne drug, the Batfamily has to fight against the clock to contain it.Or, I found a plot hole in a previous fic and decided to write 5k of words to remedy that, but instead created much, much more plot holes.
A/N: In Flameo, Batman! I wrote about how Oracle can only narrow possible locations to 5, which means that the kidnappers are actually good, but then I didn't deliver on the fight scene. So I decided to write this, and ends up with 5k of the batfam actually being detectives. This is written almost in a S.W.A.T. like style, because my dad is obsessed with that show and so I watch it too.title from Hozier, Angel of Small Death and the Codein Scene. I thought it's fitting, since this fic is about drugs. (This is Chapter 1, btw.)
“Hey, Red, is it important? I’m kind of in the middle of a stakeout.” As he says that, Dick sees movement from inside the house. He really cannot keep talking to Tim, not if he wants to get as much information from this stakeout as possible. But Tim rarely calls in the middle of patrol, so Dick is assuming that this is important.
“Oh. Not really. I just want to give you a heads-up about B’s kidnapping a few weeks ago. Turns out there’s more to it than just the kidnapping.”
Dick curses under his breath. He knows that that rescue attempt was too easy for an organization that managed to fool Oracle. “Okay. Do you need me there? I can wrap this up in a few minutes if you need me.”
“Nah, I think between Hood, BB, Batgirl, me, Robin, and Batman, we pretty much got it covered. Just keeping you in the loop.”
“Alright, Red.” If Tim says they can handle it, then they can handle it.  Besides, Dick has his own cases to work through. “Thanks for the info. Call if you need help?”
“You’re welcome, N. And sure, I’ll call if we need help.”
“Nightwing! Get your ass here now!”
“Hood? Is something wrong?” It’s been a few days after Tim calls about Bruce’s kidnapping, but since there were no other calls about that, Dick assumes that they are handling it.
“Oracle’ll brief you on the way, she’s currently tied up in something else. Just get your ass here now,” Jason practically shouts to the comm.
“Is this about the kidnapping case?” Dick asks, just to be sure.
“Just get your ass here, Dickwing! We need you here yesterday!”
“Shit, is it that serious?” Dick grabs the keys to his bike from the table. It’s lucky that he’s staying in today, working on connecting leads to the murder case on Young Street. If he’s out on patrol, it would take much longer to get to the bike.
“Oracle’ll give you the full briefing in a couple minutes. I’m also currently in the middle of something…”
Two explosions, one after the other, come in from Jason’s end. It was loud enough to be heard over the comms.
“Hood, are those gunshots?”
“Like I said, I’m currently in the middle of something. Just go to Gotham, we’ll meet you at the Cave.”
“Be careful, Hood.”
“Yeah, yeah, see you there, ‘Wing.”
“Yeah. Tim shrugs. “Their original plan was to distract us, GCPD, and basically the entire city with Bruce Wayne’s kidnapping. We found broadcasting equipment in the warehouse B was held in. But we rescued B fast enough that they couldn’t really use his kidnapping as a distraction, so now they have to find a new distraction.”
“And their new distraction is to blow up the bridge? Haven’t we been through this before?” Dick remembers another case that he works with Tim that involves blowing up the bridge. He is not looking forward to repeating that.
Tim grimaces. “You have to admit, blowing up the bridge is a pretty big distraction.”
It is a big distraction. Not that Dick is going to admit that now. “How do we know this again? And how did we miss that they are part of a larger group?” Dick turns to Babs, who hasn’t stopped typing into the Batcomputer since he got here.
“Since I am very rarely wrong, I found it suspicious that I found five hits to the possible location of B’s kidnapping, considering how easy you took them out.” That was Dick’s thought too, but he didn’t actually stick around long enough in Gotham after they ‘rescued’ Bruce that he got to say that to anyone. He could blame his abundance of cases in Blud, but he really should have said something. Thank god Babs also finds that odd. “I sent Steph to investigate the four ‘not-it’ warehouses. She found traces of this drug there. It’s a more potent version of fentanyl, almost up there with carfentanil. It has a similar composition to the bloodwork from an OD case a few months ago.”
“We thought it was just a guy experimenting with fentanyl and accidentally OD-ed himself, so we didn’t dig too much into it then,” Tim explains.
“I’m guessing that is not the case here.”
“No.” Tim sighs. “That guy was actually part of the group that kidnapped Bruce. He either stole some for himself and misjudged the dosage, or he was the guinea pig for this drug. We have no time to investigate his death now, not with this new drug threatening to spill on the streets tonight.”
“Tonight? What are they planning?” Dick came to Gotham prepared for any situation, so this information that he is going to have to act sooner rather than later comes as a confirmation rather than information, really. He’s been preparing himself for it as soon as Jason called him. But still, it would have been nice to have been called for something that’s not as immediate as tonight once in a while.
“They’re going to release this drug to the air. They have an airbender, which makes it so much easier for them,” Babs says. Airbender plus airborne drugs equals very bad news, especially with drugs as potent as carfentanil. It can cause hundreds of OD cases throughout the entire city. Is Gotham not already crazy enough for these people? “We think that they want to get the entire city hooked on this drug, then sell it to them at a very high price.”
“Damn. Tonight, you say? Is there why it’s only the three of us here?”
“Yeah. B’s with Cass and Damian coordinating with the GCPD on containment and evacuation.” Tim points to three dots, designated Batman, Robin, and Black Bat, on the GCPD building up on the map.
“Smart. Cass and Damian may be the only ones capable of containing this kind of scenario.”
“Steph and Jason are out on the docks, trying to scare some of the goons to giving up their boss’ location.” Tim points to another two dots. These two are actually moving pretty fast. Dick assumes that the two of them are chasing some goons.
“Wait,” Dick frowns, “we still don’t know their location?” That can’t be good.
“We figured out the locations of some of the caches they put to be released to the air, but we can’t guarantee that that’s all of them. And, considering the sizes of the warehouses that were used to store the drugs and the caches we’ve found, there’s still a significant amount of drugs missing. Those must be with the boss,” Babs says.
“Which is why I’m here with Babs, trying to track them down. Also, it seemed that this drug is flammable, so I thought it’s prudent to stay out of the field.”
Tim actually has remarkably good control over his fire and he can fight just fine without his bending, all of them could, but Dick currently does not have time to debate that. He files it in his mental note for a later date. “Okay, what do you need me to do?”
Babs and Tim look at each other. “A third pair of eyes won’t hurt,” Tim says.
“Don’t you think it’s better for him to be out on the streets? Hood and Batgirl haven't checked in yet, they might be in trouble.”
Right as Babs finished that sentence, the Cave’s speaker turns on. “Hood to the Cave, Hood to the Cave.”
“Speak of the devil,” Babs says.
Dick presses the mike button on the cave, then says, “Come in, Hood.”
“Oh, good, you’re here, ‘Wing. O, Red, we got several locations, but they’re all contradicting each other. I don’t know how useful this is going to be.”
“Any additional data is going to be useful, Hood. Where is it?” Babs opens a new window on the Batcomputer, ready to type in and analyze everything Jason is going to say.
“One said that he’s on Crime Alley, 31st Street. Another one said he’s camping near Arkham, just a few blocks from it. One said he’s on the grounds of Gotham U.”
“Fuck him very much for that, by the way. Who tries to release drugs on university grounds? Haven’t college students suffered enough?”
“Focus, Batgirl.”
“Right. Some of them said he’s on Robinsville, but some also said he’s on the Bowery, King’s Street. For all it’s worth, all of them seemed very sure about their answers, and they’re all also confused about why their fellow henchmen are giving out different answers.”
“How sure are they?” Tim asks.
“Sure enough that the firebenders are willing to get iced,” Jason says grimly.
“Damn.”
“Yep.”
“How come this guy is in five places at once?” Babs frowns at the screen. “Maybe these are just decoys?”
“No, I don’t think so, Babs. For a firebender to be willing to get iced, they must be super sure of themselves. Even I don’t want to get iced.” Tim shivers. Dick knows for a fact that Steph has once iced Tim, so Tim is speaking from memory at that one. Dick has been iced before too, but the experience is totally different for a firebender, what with their source of power being the fire inside and all. “Oh, that reminds me. Hood, please tell me you didn’t actually ice them.”
“Nah, Replacement.” Tim sighs in relief. “Blondie here did.”
“What!” Tim exclaims.
“Shut up, Hood! I can and will ice you too!”
“Try it, Blondie. I’m a waterbender too, remember?”
“Children, focus,” Babs says. “Let’s assume that this guy is in five places at once. How is he doing that? Meta powers? Spirit world connection? If he has a spirit world connection this case might just turn out to be worse than it already is.”
“Wait,” Dick says, tracing the five places Babs has highlighted on the map. “What if he’s not in five places at once?”
“Are we not acting on the assumption that the henchmen are giving accurate information?” Babs looks at him.
“It can be accurate without him being in five places at once, Babs. What if he’s just moving between these places so fast that when they check in to see where he is, they all get different answers?”
“Huh. That is certainly more plausible. But the speed in which he must have moved suggests that…”
“He’s an airbender. Only airbenders can move that fast. It tracks, though. We already know they have an airbender to release the drug. That airbender is just the boss.”
“If he’s the airbender, he can make sure that he inhaled none of the drugs himself. Oh!” Babs claps her hands. “That’s genius, Former Boy Wonder!”
“Hey, I’m a former boy wonder too!” Jason cries out.
“Same here!”
“I literally had the longest run as Robin, after N here,” Tim adds.
Babs sighs. “You guys really are children, aren’t you? Someone not me please tell Batman about this. I’m going to run an analysis on airbenders outside the League who’s in Gotham right now. There shouldn’t be too many of them.”
“Speaking of the League,” Dick turns to Tim, “are we sure it’s not them?”
“I don’t think so, ‘Wing. This is not their MO.”
“Yeah. Besides, neither Talia nor Ra’s have any interest in these kinds of drugs. I don’t think it’s them.”
If both Tim and Jason, their current resident expert on the League, say that it’s not the League, then Dick is inclined to believe them. They have spent a considerable amount of time with the League to not pick up on their tendencies. “Okay. Let’s rule out the League for now. Any hits yet, Babs?”
“No. There are still quite a few airbenders around, even discounting the League, you know?”
Dick nods. Even though most of the airbenders are present in the League, there are still several groups outside of the League who have their own airbenders. Not to mention the occasional airbenders who’re not affiliated with any of the groups but still managed to master their craft.
Then, the Cave is bathed in red light, with alarms sounding from all the speakers in the Cave.
Dick curses. “What’s that, Red?”
“It’s Bruce’s alarm. Whoever he is, he’s making his move now.”
“Alright, Hood, Batgirl, head over to B’s location now. I’m also moving out right now. Red, you coming?”
“No, I’ll look into containment options other than airbending from here. I’m not risking a city wide fire.”
Dick nods. He really needs to have that conversation with Tim about why he doesn’t want to go out to the field today, but that unfortunately has to wait. “Oracle, keep us posted. B’s in GCPD headquarters, yes?”
“That’s what his last location is. His tracker is down.”
“What about Robin’s? Or Black Bat’s?” Dick asks.
“They’re still at GCPD.”
“Okay. I’m heading to GCPD now. Hood, Batgirl?”
“Already on our way, ‘Wing!” Steph says.
“Good.” Dick mounts his bike and zooms out of the Cave door that either Tim or Babs must have opened for him. He tries to hail Bruce on the way to GCPD. “Nightwing to Batman, Nightwing to Batman, come in.”
Silence.
Dick tries again. “Nightwing to Batman, Nightwing to Batman, come in!”
The same as before, silence. The fact that both Batman’s tracker and his comm are down is very concerning, especially at nights like this, when Bruce knows he has to communicate with the entire family.
“Shit. Oracle, Batman’s not answering. When did his tracker go down?”
“His tracker went down right before he pinged the Cave,” Babs says. “Try hailing Robin. I’ll hail Black Bat. Maybe they know where Batman went.”
“‘Kay, O. Nightwing to Robin, Nightwing to Robin.”
Static. At least it’s not silence, which meant that Robin still has his comms, he just can’t reach it to answer. That’s marginally better. Still not reassuring, though.
“Oracle, I’m getting static from Robin’s com.”
“I’m getting the same thing from Black Bat’s com. Maybe they are in the middle of containing the drugs? That would make them unable to answer the coms.”
Dick wills his bike to go even faster, even as he’s already riding at breakneck speed. “Maybe, O. Let’s hope it’s not something worse.”

Imagine Dating Dick And Meeting The Batfam For The First Time (2/2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Word Count: 1000
Warnings: Some cursing
A/N: Hope this is good. I know it’s not super long but the story was too big to be one small fic so i just split it up. Sorry for any errors I do not have an editor so sometimes I miss mistakes... oh well life goes on. Enjoy and let me know if you like it :)
Part 1
Upon entering the dining room you expected Dick to put you down but instead he sat down with you on his lap. You laughed and tried to get up but he kept a strong arm around your middle, keeping you in his lap.
“Dick.” You warned.
“(Y/N/N).” He mocked. You rolled your eyes and let it go knowing it was useless at this point. You filled your and Dick’s shared plate with everything either of you liked and dig in. One of the girls sat on your right and immediately introduced herself.
“Hi, I’m Barbara, but everyone calls me Babs. It’s so nice to meet you. We’ve been hounding Dick to meet you for months.” She said.
“That’s funny, so was I.” You said in a sarcastic voice as you looked towards your boyfriend who was shoving his face with waffles.
“Hmm, isn’t that interesting.” the girl on the other side of her commented.
“Very.” Babs commented.
“Okay can you two stop being so mean to me. You both know very well why I pushed this off for so long.” Dick said giving a pointed look over to his brothers.
“But what about us?” The girl to the right of Babs said sadly.
“Yeah, we deserved to meet her.” Said the other girl who’d sat to the left of us.
“I’m Cass by the way. Nice to meet you.” Said the one to the left.
“Yeah and I’m Steph.” the final girl introduced herself.
“It really is great to meet all of you.” You said with a large smile.
“Give it time. You’ll regret that statement.” Dick mumbled.
“We’ll see about that.” You smirked.
“So what do you do for a living?” Tim asked.
“You ask that like you don’t already know. But I’ll bite. I’m a Veterinarian at the animal hospital downtown.” You said.
“Do you have any pets?” Damian asked.
“Well nothing permanent but I’ve fostered many different kinds of animals.”
“What kind?” He asked.
“Well I’ve fostered fifteen dogs, about twenty cats, uh three snakes, seven rabbits, sixteen lizards, two hamsters, a handful of guinea pigs, uh three pigs, ten various types of birds, a foal, uh a couple of foxes… and I think that’s about it.” you finished. Everyone was looking at you in shock, except Dick of course, he was used to the obscene amounts of animals in the house and came to expect it now.
“What?” You asked feeling awkward with how everyone was looking at you.
“Do you have any right now?” Damian asked, seeming to be the only one who was unfazed. If anything he seemed excited.
“Not at this moment.” You said and watched his face fall a bit. “But,” You started and watched him look at you in wonder. “I will be taking in a few wolf cubs this week once they come out of ICU.” You stated casually.
“Really?” You heard two voices ask, one in excitement another in shock and mild distaste.
“Yes really. You’re welcome to visit them.” You offered and Damian nodded in excitement.
“As long as he doesn’t come home with one.” Bruce said eyeing the boy. You’d heard about the small menagerie that the youngest had created. You’d even been an “anonymous” consultant when one of the animals seemed sick.
Conversation flowed easily after that and everyone seemed pretty okay with you after that. The girls were thrilled to have another woman around to deal with the boys’ antics. Soon enough everyone was itching for presents and you all moved back to the living room where presents were now neatly stacked under the tree.
The boys dove for prime seating by the tree and Tim ended up getting crushed under Dick. They all argued for a bit before settling into their spots.
Presents were passed around one at a time. And before you knew it there was wrapping paper everywhere. You’d gotten a gorgeous scarf and a few sweaters from the ‘Batfamily’ though you had a feeling Alfred was the one who did the shopping. You didn’t mind and thanked them all anyway. You’d let Dick do most of the shopping for his family with a few helping hints from you and by their reactions they were all very happy with their gifts, though Damian said an invitation to see the wolf pups was gift enough.
The whole family seemed to warm up to you. Well almost the whole family. You couldn’t tell how Bruce felt but you thought he liked you.
By the time the night ended you left with a smile on your face and being  begged to come visit more. You were glad there was so much worrying for nothing.
When you arrived home you were very glad because as much as you’d come to love Dick’s family you were happy to finally be alone with your lover on Christmas. You knew Dick felt the same way so you weren’t surprised when he scooped you up and plopped down on the couch. Neither of you talked, but you didn’t need to. All you needed was the warm embrace of each other and it spoke a thousand words you never could.
“You know, we haven’t done presents yet.” Dick mentioned what felt like hours later.
“No… is that your way of telling me you want your presents?” You teased looking at him with a smirk.
“Maayyybbbeee.”
You laugh and he jumps up off the couch with you still in his arms and he plops down next to your tree. Your tree is nowhere near as big as the one in Wayne Manor nor as elegant. But it’s more your style with weird ornaments and lopsided lights.
There aren’t many presents under the tree; only about ten.
Dick grabbed one that was for me and thrust it into my hands and watched me with childlike wonder. I laughed and unwrapped it. I lifted the box lid and gasped. It was the (Y/F/C) dress you’d seen the other day when you and Dick were shopping for gifts. It was a full length dress with a slit up to the mid thigh. It had full lace sleeves and a high lace neck.
“Dick.” You breathed. When you’d seen it you didn’t realize he was paying attention.
“I had to. I saw you looking at it. Plus I think it’ll look really good on you.”
You lunged at him and bear hugged him. He laughed as you knocked him over. This Christmas had been the best one you’d had yet by far.

In the Game - Ch 3
Months have passed since Regan joined Cullen and his friends with their weekly game. It's Cullen's nameday and Regan & the others want to surprise him.
note:  This is in the same universe as the Starting Over series with Regan and Alistair, but it involves Cullen and Regan Trevelyan, more than a year before Alistair and Regan Cousland meet. I just kind of wanted to do something a little different with this pair, and thought this could be fun.
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
Find it on Ao3 here
Regan twisted to avoid the hot baking sheet Bull pulled from the oven, carrying a basket of rolls out of the kitchen.  “Where’d you find tonight’s dessert, Bull?  It smells amazing.”  One of her favorite things about joining Cullen and the rest for their mostly weekly game had become acting as guinea pig for whatever recipe Bull had discovered and wanted to try out.
“Dorian got it from someone he works with.”  Bull drizzled frosting over the cinnamon-y dessert.  “We thought it would be a nice treat.”  He left the dessert to cool and went about setting up the rest of the food. “It isn’t every day Cullen actually admits he’s having a nameday.”
Dorian set out the good plates; the first time since Regan’s introduction to the game.  It wasn’t so much about making a good impression this time. Cullen had been one of his best friends for years and rarely brought attention to his nameday.  “I know you two usually come together.  Did he say anything about you not riding with him today?”
She had struggled for over a week trying to figure out how to get to Dorian’s place before Cullen to help get things ready.  Almost every plan she’d come up with had been rejected almost immediately for one reason or another.  Finally, she’d settled on a little white lie.  “I told him I needed to help Blackwall get ready for his anniversary date with Josie, and I’d just meet him here after.  He’s heading over after a meeting.”  A couple more trips to and from the kitchen and the food was laid out.  “It’s not a surprise party, right?  I mean, not exactly?”
“It’s a surprise, yes. A surprise party?  No.”  Dorian did another quick check of the table and the buffet setup and nodded.  The gifts were in the other room, out of sight, so it was as good as it was going to get.  He was sure no one would notice if anything out of place; he just hated the thought of things not being just right.   “We’re having a little food, a few gifts, and our normal game.  There aren’t even any decorations.  Have you figured out how to get things moving in the right direction?”
A quick check of the suddenly vibrating phone pulled her attention to the door.  “Thanks, guys. I really appreciate it.”  Regan gave them each a quick peck on the cheek and headed for the door.  “Cass and the others are here.  All that’s left is Cullen.”  She pulled the door open and hugged everyone before shrugging.  “I have no clue yet, honestly. I’ll come up with something.”
“Sera is actually on time?  How did that happen?”
“She rode with me, of course.”  Varric strode in with a laugh.  “I wouldn’t let Buttercup’s lack of timing ruin all your planning, Sparkler.”  He disappeared into the hallway to drop the wrapped parcels he’d been carrying in the appropriate room with the others as the door clicked shut. When he reappeared, he took his seat at the table.  “I still can’t believe I missed your debut in the game, Grace.  At least Curly had the decency not to let my beloved Corwin die while I was gone.”
“He’s here!”  Regan looked up from her phone and made a shushing sound.  “We’re not hiding, exactly, but ….”
“We know, Trev; we know.” Bull rested a hand on her shoulder and turned her toward the door.  “Go let him in; everyone else, to your seats.  Let him think we’ve been waiting impatiently.”  While Bull thought Dorian’s plan was going to be a little difficult to pull off, it was better than jumping out from behind the wall and yelling ‘surprise’.

Bull grumbled as the dice tumbled to a stop just short of the map.  If he didn’t know any better, he’d swear the dice were laughing at him. “I run over and dump a healing potion into Cerastes’ mouth for ….” He did some quick math and rolled his eyes.  “For a whopping ten points.”
Dorian groaned softly, pressing his fingertips against his forehead.  “Cerastes looks around for Felix and sends him at the creature that knocked him out.  ‘We’ll sneak in the back way.  These bandits can’t be smart enough to put traps in the back way.  Whose bright idea was it to go through the back door again?’.”
“I flick a piece of crumbled gargoyle at him.  ‘You’re the one who stepped on the trigger!’.”  Sera downed what was left in her mug and rolled.  “I take a shot at the same thing Felix is going after.”
“One more to go.” Cullen pulled the second-to-last gargoyle from the map.  “Who’s next?”
Varric rolled his dice and grinned.  “Finally; 27, plus 4 fire damage.”  They’d been struggling for the past thirty minutes trying to deal with a cluster of gargoyles brought to life by a trapped stone that no one in the party, including the rogues, had managed to notice.  For some reason, he’d been rolling like garbage anytime it really mattered.
Cullen reached for the final mini to pull it off the board with relief.  He’d started to worry that he’d somehow managed to make the encounter too difficult, despite the fact that everyone had leveled up at least once.  “The last gargoyle falls to the ground in pieces, bits of something, you don’t really want to know what, crackling with flames.  What next?”
“Before we go further, who needs healing?”  Cassandra looked around the table, noting that just Dorian raised his hand.  “How bad?” When he answered, she glanced at her sheet and sighed.  “Against her better judgment, Aratur  tosses Cerastes a greater healing potion for….”  She rolled the necessary dice and fought back a triumphant smile.  It wasn’t much, per se, but given the fact she was rolling D4s, it was decent. “Fifteen points.”
“While they’re doing that, I’m going to try and check the door over there for traps.”  Regan dropped the dice on the table and frowned a little as she mathed.  “Twenty-four?”  She was nervous; the last two times she or Varric had checked for traps had not gone well, and while this was the highest roll between them for the night, it was entirely possible that it still wasn’t enough.
Cullen looked over his notes and nodded faintly.  He had to hide how happy he was that his girlfriend not only was alright with the hobby that had been so important to him for years, but also enjoyed participating! The fact that she had picked things up so well still made him smile.  “The door does not appear to be trapped.”
        *****   *****   *****   *****   *****   *****   *****   *****   *****   *****   *****
“So you all finally make it back to the mayor’s house, boy in tow and … mostly intact.  He’s certainly shaken up and bruised, with the tip of the ring finger of his left hand missing after his stay with the bandits.”  Cullen glances over at Regan, only to notice that she was very pointedly looking at Dorian. “What … who does what next?”
Dorian caught Regan’s eye and nodded.  They had been trying to find a way to bring the game around to a way to give Cullen his presents, but nothing had materialized, until now.  As far as Dorian could tell, the cake had been a success; Cullen had managed to eat two pieces of it rather quickly, while everyone else had gotten one, but that was the extent of celebration they’d managed thus far.  “Cerastes knocks on the mayor’s door, rather surprised there was no guards stationed.”
Regan scooted back from the table and hopped up, using the restroom excuse to leave the room momentarily, missing the exact moment the mayor answered the door.  She could hear someone … she was fairly certain it was Sera – Breeches … explaining in grand detail the harrowing adventure that … wait, they didn’t really face down owlbears to rescue the boy.  Leave it to the bard.  She gathered up the gifts, thankful that most of them brought their gifts in bags, and made it back to the doorway of the main room just in time to hear Cassandra’s Aratur chastising the bard for making things up.
“Corwin interrupts the two bickering women, pushing past them both to go up to the mayor. ‘Honorable Mayor, in addition to rescuing your son; terribly sorry about the finger, by the way – that happened well before we arrived.’  I turn and motion for Amnon to come on up.”  Varric looks over to where Regan had been standing, surprised Cullen hadn’t noticed her there yet, and tilted his head toward the man of the hour.  “When he gets close, I turn back to the mayor.  ‘In addition to finding your son, we found some … trinkets we felt you might like.”
Bull cleared his throat, watching Regan try to move as quietly as possible while carrying several bags and a couple boxes.  If he could have gotten up to help without calling Cullen’s attention, he would have. As things stood, he just did his best to keep everyone’s attention on him.  “I carry two of the gem-encrusted statues we found in the bandit’s place – the ruby one and the larger emerald one - up to the mayor.  I tell him ‘Choose one,’ and hold them down for him to see.”
Cullen’s brow furrowed in confusion.  For as long as he’d been playing with the group, they’d never willingly parted with something worth that much when they didn’t have to.  The obvious confusion came through in his voice.  “The mayor looks at his son.  ‘I … ah … thank you?  Frederick, which, ah – which do you think?’.  Frederick shudders, obviously not really thrilled with the idea of a memorial from the bandits that had kidnapped him, but … he eventually points to the ruby encrusted statue.  The mayor turns back to you, Corwin, and you can tell he’s just very confused.”
Regan finally reached Cullen and rested the presents at his side.  “Maybe this will clear things up a little.”  She leans over and brushes the barest of kisses against his lips. “Happy nameday, dearheart.”
Cullen stared around the room; everyone was watching him expectantly.  Too many eyes to do what he really wanted to do, and certainly enough to bring a flush to his cheek. “You … you all planned this?”  His eyes darted from Regan to the others and then back to Regan again.  “I … I don’t know what to say.”
“Say ‘Thank you’ and open the presents.”  Bull’s suggestion was laced with laughter.  The surprised look on Cullen’s face when he realized that a pile of gift bags were for him had been worth the effort.  “Start with the big, red bag.  That’s from us.”
Cullen went through the bags slowly, feeling just a little uncomfortable with the number of eyes on him. There was a new coat from Dorian and Bull, complete with furred collar and a copy of a movie that he’d wanted to see but missed in the theater thanks to a number of double-shifts.  Varric’s gift was a collection of graphic novels, written by himself, of course, each one autographed ‘To Curly’.  Cassandra’s gift was absolutely practical – a new shirt and a gift card for a nice restaurant.  By the same token, Sera’s gift had been one of the boxes and was absolutely the most impractical thing she could think of: two packs of edible under-garments – his and hers, for later, she’d said while grinning at Regan.
And then he was down to Regan’s.  Hers was the second box, wrapped neatly in red and gold paper.
“Open the box first, then read the card,” she instructed.
He barely caught the blush rushing to her cheeks, though he thought he saw it deepen when their eyes met and he nodded.  Carefully peeling the paper back, he found an ornate wooden box, slightly larger than the box he kept his dice in.  Across the top, he could see each letter of his name, framed on either side by a roaring lion’s head.  Inside was a set of brand new dice: marbled scarlet with gold numbering.  The twenty-sided die had a tiny lion’s head in place of the twenty.  “Regan, this is … this is amazing.  Where did you find this?”
She smiled awkwardly, ducking behind Bull until she regained her composure.  “I … had it made?  Blackwall carved everything after I supplied the box and dice.”  She reached over and gently tapped the card.  “Don’t … don’t forget the card.”
Cullen nodded, noticing the nervous way she bit her lip after speaking.  He flipped open the envelope and pulled out the card.  The front was fairly non-descript – a funny comic about getting older, and the pre-printed message inside was much the same. However, there was something else written in what was most certainly her handwriting, promising something of a far more personal nature when they were alone again.  He tried to speak, but just the thought of what she wrote had his mind misfiring.  It took several tries before he could finally say anything.  “I … I don’t know what to say, other than thank you; all of you.”
“Dorian, would it be alright with you and Bull if Cullen gave me a ride home?  I took a cab to get here and ….”  Regan shuffled the remnants of wrapping paper that had somehow drifted in front of her, trying not to look too uncomfortable with the fact that she was pretty certain everyone at the table had an idea of what the card said.
The couple shared a knowing smile and nodded.  “Go on. We’ll take care of cleaning up.” Bull looked over at Cullen and made a shoo-ing motion with his hands.  “Go on, take her home, Cullen.  And happy nameday.”

Additional note:  I want to thank @nerdyskirt for her help with all the D&D parts. I have never played Dungeons & Dragons (I tried once, but the people I was playing with were not very welcoming or patient with a newbie, so …). My knowledge of the game is pretty much limited to what I’ve seen on Critical Role, so … without her, this story wouldn’t happen.
