For the valentines prompts: “see, this is the true meaning of valentine’s day.” “box wine and enough candy to kill a horse?!” “you heard me.” Encanto: Brunos and his sisters being aroace Allies by celebrating happy to be single day with him
Bruno can hear footsteps outside of his hiding place and heaves a deep and long suffering sigh. It was to be expected, after all.
"Alright, alright", he mutters as the door of the closet slowly opens and a beam of light hits his face. He doesn't look up. "Please spare me your disappointed frown, Mama. I wasn't hiding. I was just… looking for something and -"
He is interrupted by what feels like hundreds of small projectiles raining down on top of him. Bruno flinches and holds his arms up to cover his head, but it's more out of surprise than pain. When the attack is over he opens his eyes and sees dozens of small candies wrapped in colorful paper scattered around his crouched form. There are also some chocolates.
When he looks up it's not his mother but his two sisters who are standing in the doorway. Pepa is holding a basket upside down over his head, probably the same basket that had contained all the candy, and regards him with a wide grin. Julieta stands behind her and is holding two bottles of wine, also smiling.
"Make room, loser." Pepa commands and immediately squeezes herself into the closet. Bruno scoots backwards, crushing chocolate and candy beneath his butt on the way. Julieta wedges herself inside on his other side and pulls the door closed behind her. Pepa has a small sun hovering over her head, a clear sign of her good mood. It allows Bruno to stare into their faces and actually see them stare back.
"What do you want?"
"What do you mean, what do we want?" Pepa snarks back.
Julieta giggles and opens one of the bottles of wine. There are no cups, but no matter how well Alma has raised them, they have never really needed cups when it came to alcohol. Prim and proper Julieta takes a large sip right from the bottle before passing it on to her brother.
"We are here to show you the true meaning of Valentine's day."
Bruno winces at the mention of today's date. But where his mother has hounded him with demands to give chocolates to pretty much all the girls in hopes of one of them accepting them (and him), he knows that his sisters understand why he can't and doesn't want to do that.
He takes a mouthful of the wine and absent-mindedly notices that it's his favorite before passing it back to Juli. What did he do to deserve such wonderful sisters?
"So the true meaning is wine and enough candy to kill a horse?"
"I said what I said." Julieta leans around him and nudges Pepa. "Little miss popular got so much candy and chocolate, if she ate it all herself she would explode."
Pepa preens. Bruno picks one of the candies up and throws it into her hair. "So I'm getting your leftovers? Harsh!" He notices a small heart-shaped box that she holds on her lap and tries to snatch it away. Pepa lifts it out of his reach. "What about those?"
"No! Those are not for sharing. Those are mine!"
Julieta swings the bottle in an arch. Bruno has a feeling that it's not the first one she's started today. "Those are from Feeee-liiiiix", she sing-songs in a mocking tone.
Pepa snatches the bottle out of her hand. "Shut it, Juli! Don't think I didn't notice you squirreling away the pot of honey Gus gave you."
Bruno unwraps one of the candies and watches his sisters bicker back and forth. When he puts it into his mouth the taste is very sweet.
The true meaning of Valentine's day, huh? Despite everything, he thinks he can get behind that one.
********
Ahhhh aroace Bruno my beloved! Thanks for this wonderful prompt
I'm accepting prompts until February 14th💕

Something about Bruno explaining why he’s okay without a partner, maybe to the kids? I love the idea of the kids trying to set him up, but I also love the idea of him responding to it like ‘ily guys but I do not need this’ lol
-gvr :D

“She likes you,” Mirabel teased as she, Luisa and Bruno left the fruit stall behind. The owner of the stall was watching them leave- or, more accurately, she was watching Bruno leave.
Bruno only shrugged. “Meh,” he said. He looked distinctly uninterested.
Luisa suddenly giggled. “Tio Bruno doesn’t go on dates,” she said, like she was letting Mirabel in on a big secret.
“What, like…Not ever?” Mirabel’s eyebrows rose and she looked at her uncle questioningly.
Bruno shrugged again. “Never,” he confirmed. “I’ve never been interested.”
“Never ever?”
There was a hint of a smile on his face. “Never ever,” he said.
“Once, a woman asked Isa to make some flowers for Tio Bruno,” Luisa said, giggling again. “And she did. But she told Bruno they were a present from her.”
“Poor Leona was very confused when I said I hadn’t gotten any presents,” Bruno said with a grin. “Isa said they were to cheer me up because I’d had a bad migraine.”
“Sneaky,” Mirabel said, smirking.
“That’s Isa for you. I might need her to be sneaky again if anyone tries to ask me.”
“So, you’re just…not interested?”
“Nope,” Bruno said, sounding quite cheerful. “I’m fine by myself”

I don't know about you, but I fear the day that we have a canon sexuality for Bruno because whatever it is, some people will be angry.
I see a lot of people with OCs that are ladies, so I suspect that they want Bruno to like girls. Then you have people who watch him and read his story as the gay uncle whose name the family don't speak, so, achillean. And I think the option of aro and/or ace is popular too? And right now everyone is having a great time with their headcanons, everything is valid.
But Jared Bush doesn't want to answer anything about this topic. He is doing that with the things they want to explore in the future. And yeah, I can imagine the grandkids asking why he is single. They'll make a canon story about that. And some people will be disappointed or angry.
My worst fear? I'm ok with everything, but I guess I can't trust Disney (talking about the company, not the people actually making the movie and trying their best).
I would love Bruno being aro/ace. I crave asexual representation. The A spectrum is so big, they can try so many options (I usually think about him like an ace with a tentative interest in romance). But. Can I trust them to do a nice representation? And, can I trust the fandom who see him as alosexual to be ok with it? Because, I don't want to think bad, but I watched so many dramas in other fandoms... I'm not ready to read more shit about us. I can't do that anymore, I'm tired.
Bruno being gay? Amazing. I love the idea. Beloved character being achillean, nice. But we are talking about Disney. Every year we have a new "the first openly gay person in a disney movie!!!" and is always a background character saying one line or kissing their partner really fast, super easy to cut if they need it. I don't know about the situation in other countries, but here in Spain there is a group of people who are trying to boycott Lightyear because Oh No TwO wOmEn KiSsEd. Encanto is SUPER popular. Bruno is very popular. Some people will be so angry if he is gay. Would Disney risk their public opinion for this? Uuuh.
And if he is hetero or at least they show him having interest in women... It's ok! The movie is not about LGBTQ+ experiences, I don't expect Disney to try more representations after using the "latino representation card" (Too much for them, they'll cry). And we’ll have more opportunities with the rest of the family if we are lucky. But if they go with "he wanted but everyone was wary of him, so Bruno couldn't find a girl" ..... I'll die if the incel community find him relatable or something like that 💀 Or... Imagine if they use Bruno being neurodivergent as the excuse of why no woman wanted to marry him, because he is "strange". More 💀💀
So yeah, I don't know. I'm happy right now. Everyone is having fun. You can read/write about any option or ignore the topic completely. But some day...

Me: I relate to Bruno so much and all my headcanons for him are not only in character! But projections of myself lol, except one... I'm not asexual.
Also me: *slowly coming to terms with how I'm asexual*

Seriously, I just want Bruno to be happy regardless of what happens with his sexuality. I’m with you on him being bi though I have my own oc with him but if he were aro/ace I’d be really excited too to see that representation.
Exactly!
I just want him to be comfortable, happy and healthy. 💕
I really just wanna see him in some new clothes, the melanin restored to his skin and him EATING A WELL BALANCED MEAL 🤌🏼
I honestly love all of the possibilities for his sexuality. I do think it’d be really cool if he was aro/ace because we don’t see that really— at all. But we’ll see if Disney lets that happen. Often times, the writers and directors would go for ideas like this and then the executives shoot them down because you know— money. And they have to appease all of the Christian Disney moms. I just hope it doesn’t happen with the Madrigals because I want more representation. I think we all do.
The VA for Isabela already confirmed that she KNOWS Isabela is gay, Luisa’s VA called herself and Luisa queer..
I want more!!

I’d love to see your take on Bruno explaining to the kids that he’s perfectly content without a partner and kids of his own, maybe because they’re (lovingly) pestering him about it or trying to set him up.
(I sent this prompt to sokkas recently as well, but what can I say I’m greedy and curious to see two of my fave writers’ takes on the same prompt. As a treat.)
-gvr :D
Well @sokkas-first-fangirl already did an amazing job, I hope mine will keep up
****
"Tonito. We need to talk."
Antonio ducks his head. He knows that tone of voice from his Mama. She uses that one when he's done something he shouldn't have done. The 'you are not in trouble but you kinda are' tone. Cami taught him how to recognize it and what to do to get back out of trouble.
He immediately presses his hands together, makes his eyes go big and round and purses his lips. Exactly like Camilo has taught him.
"I love you, I'm sorry and I will never do it again."
Tio Bruno stares down at him with a puzzled look on his face. For a second Antonio is scared that Cami's trick isn't working, but then Bruno's shoulders, which had been up to his ears with tension, loosen up and his lips pull into a reluctant smile.
"Do you even know what it is you will never do again?"
Antonio opens his mouth and pauses. "No."
Tio Bruno finally laughs and Antonio's heart feels a little lighter. Something about his uncle being cross with him is even worse than when it is his Mama. Maybe because it's so difficult to make Bruno angry in the first place. He must have done something truly bad.
Antonio fidgets with the edges of his vest and only stops when he feels a large, calloused hand gently card through his hair.
"I'm not angry, Tonito." His uncle instinctively knows exactly what to say to make him feel better. Bruno always claims that he is not good with other people, but Antonio secretly thinks that other people are just not good with Tio Bruno. "I really just want to talk."
"Okay?"
Bruno sits down on the ground and gestures to Antonio to join him. He probably didn't expect the little boy to plop down on his lap, but doesn't push him off either. "You told me Senora Lorna wanted to speak to me. That she needed help with something."
"Yes."
"But apparently, Senora Lorna didn't need help. She thought it was a…" He clears his throat. "She thought we would be going on a date."
"Did it work?" Antonio asks excitedly. "I read about it in a book. I sent you two on a cute visit."
"Meet cute." Bruno corrects absent-mindedly. "And no, Tonito. We didn't go on a date."
"But I thought you like her."
"I do. As a friend." Bruno sighs and he is really serious all of a sudden. "Tonito, Senora Lorna was really embarrassed. And also a bit sad. It was not nice to lie to her like that."
Antonio can feel himself tearing up. "I didn't mean to make her sad! I just wanted to help."
Bruno pulls him closer. "I know. And she knows that too, don't worry. Just please don't do something like this again, okay?"
"Okay." Antonio sniffles some more. He feels really bad, but he just wanted to make his uncle happy. "I just wanted to help you", he repeats.
Bruno sighs again. Antonio can't see his face because he is still pressed against his chest, but it sounds kinda sad. "I know, amigo."
The little boy pushes away so he can look up at his uncle. "Who do you like?"
Bruno smirks and bops his nose. "I like you, you little troublemaker."
Antonio giggles and squirms away. "No! Not like that. Who do you like like. Like Mama likes Papa."
"No one."
"No one?" Antonio shouts. He thought everyone like liked someone. Even Isabela like likes that girl from the village even though she is always denying it and throwing cacti at Mirabel when her sister teases her about it. Mama told him he doesn't like like anyone yet cause he's still too young. "Are you still too young for that?"
Bruno blinks a few times. He looks like he really needs to think about it. "That's a new one." he mutters under his breath. "I have never liked someone like your parents like each other. Pretty sure I never will."
"But why?"
Bruno shrugs. "There are many different kinds of people on this earth, buddy. Some want something like what your parents have, or something like Isa and her mystery girl. They want to get married and have a lot of children. And some don't want any of that at all. Like me."
"But aren't you lonely?"
Bruno smiles softly and rests his head atop Antonio's. "Oh no. How could I ever be lonely with all of you around? I have everything I will ever need, Tonito. Don't worry about your old tio."
Antonio kind of gets it. And if Tio Bruno says he's okay and happy, then Antonio will believe him.
And anyway, this way he can have his Tio all to himself. That's so much better than a new Tia.
"I'll draw a picture for Senora Lorna. As an apology."
"That's a great idea!"
"Will you help me?"
Cami has said that you can also use the big eyes and pouty lips for situations like this. It seems to be working, because Bruno laughs and ruffles his hair.
"Of course!"

Read your post about Encanto and I wondered, would Aro really kill them on the sly? Asking because I don't know if you were joking& because in IC killing Eleazar just because he is inconvenient is a whole discussion and killing the Denali in 2Men is also something Aro wants to keep a secret because he doesn't want rumors to spread about the Vulturi killing willy nilly.. also if they kept Julieta wouldn't the other Madrigals be allies those on good terms with the Vulturi?
(Anon is referring to this post.)
Aro, per the Guide, will kill ex-guards who can be an inconvenience if left to their own devices. I understand this to mean, for the most part, gifts that are not useful enough to justify a spot in the guard but potentially troublesome in enemy hands.
The Madrigals might fit that bill. Bruno's gift, for instance, an interesting gift but ultimately not one I can see Aro benefitting from. That's not to say Aro would want his enemies getting their hands on Bruno.
(This, of course, assuming the gifts don't change with the transformation. Who knows, maybe Bruno becomes splendidly useful. Only way to find out is to turn him.)
As it is I imagine Aro doesn't turn all the Madrigals, at least not all at once. I think he turns the second generation (Julieta, weather aunt, Bruno) and then waits for the kids to have children before turning them.
Aro in The Less Than Immaculate Conception (a fic cowritten by myself and @theoriginalcarnivorousmuffin) is hesitant to kill Eleazar because what Marcus does to Edward brought back all the worst demons. He has realized he can't actually live with himself, he's carried too much for too long and the weight of it all is crushing him. His refusal to assassinate one man has less to do with "I would never commit a heinous act such as murder!" and more to do with "I thought I could live with killing my sister, I can't, now there's a rot in me I can't cut away. I can't bear to make it worse". Which is too bad because the life he has chosen means he has to keep going, and that's going to mean the Eleazars of this world do need to die, just as countless others do.
Normal, better adjusted Aro who hasn't had Marcus run off to murder Edward Cullen and then force Aro to lie to Esme and Carlisle about it, might express regret at killing Eleazar and Carmen but he'll then shrug and remark that it's lovely weather for a fire.
To answer your question: I imagine if Aro decided to kill a few vampified Madrigals then the surviving Madrigals get told that Bruno's on a farm now. Yes, I'm sure he'll visit, now go talk to Corin.

i’ve been reading your prompts and i think they’re absolutely amazing. i especially love your actual baby brother bruno au, and was wondering if you could do another one with julieta and pepa bonding with/being protective over bruno? (if you’re still accepting prompts, that is). i love your writing!
Madrigal triplets (or in this case, siblings) supremacy 👏👏
(And aro-ace Bruno!)
Tumblr media
The front door of Casita slammed open and Julieta flinched in shock to hear her little brother shout, "IF YOU WANT ME TO GO, YOU'LL HAVE TO DRAG ME!"
And Alma, even louder: "DON'T YOU DARE RAISE YOUR VOICE AT ME, YOUNG MAN!"
"THEN STOP TRYING TO SET ME UP AND LEAVE ME ALONE! I DON'T WANT TO GET MARRIED, END OF DISCUSSION!"
Then his bedroom door slammed and Julieta and Pepa were left gaping at each other in silence across the kitchen table, their cups of coffee immediately forgotten.
Their mamá was at it again. Trying to play match-maker, not understanding that Bruno simply wasn't interested. Alma thought it was his anxiety and shyness holding him back; she thought his depression was warping his view of himself. Julieta could understand that logic; after all, that was what she'd wondered too at first, until she heard Bruno out.
Romance, relationships, marriage and everything that came with it, were of no interest to him. For years, the mere mention of sex made him wrinkle his nose in disgust. Once, when he was sixteen, a girl tried to kiss him by the river and he ran straight to Julieta's stall and he avoided that particular classmate of his for a week.
Their little brother was five years younger than them. Not the biggest of age gaps, but Alma had always drilled it into them that they were The Big Sisters. It was their job to keep Bruno safe.
Even from Mamá if they must.
Julieta still remembered the night they got their Miracle; she remembered holding her newborn brother and crying for her Papá, sitting outside the newly formed Casita with Pepa, as a suspicious and frightened Alma went to investigate the living house. For a while, Julieta had been convinced that Alma would never come out; the house would eat her up, and Julieta would have to look after her sister and brother all by herself.
She remembered vowing again and again to protect her baby brother, a silent promise to herself and to their papá.
So Julieta stood now, Pepa right behind her, and went to Bruno's room.
She knocked, but didn't wait for a response before opening the door. The knocking was more of a formality anyway; unless he was in the ante-chamber or main room, he'd never hear her.
There seemed to be more sand than last time. Or maybe she was imagining it. The stairs to the vision cave seemed bigger.
She hoped she was imagining that.
"Brunito?" Julieta made for the second, smaller staircase, leading to his bedroom. "Bruno, it's just us."
Bruno was sitting on the edge of his bed, glaring at the wall. At age twenty-five, he was the spitting image of Pedro. His nails dug into his blanket and he looked like he was about to scream or cry.
Pepa pushed past Julieta, practically running to the bed and throwing herself down gracelessly, flinging an arm around Bruno's shoulders.
"Y'know," she said with a big, dramatic sigh. "I always thought Mamá needed a hobby. Bet this is all because she's bored."
Bruno's lips twitched, an almost-smile.
Julieta sat on his other side, more gentle than her twin sister. Ever since Isabela and Pepa had been born two years ago, Alma had tried harder to convince Bruno to start a family of his own. "You're so good with the ninos," she said, in a rare soft voice. "Look at the kind of papá you could be, amor."
Maybe Bruno would have been a good father, but being a Tio suited him much more.
"Even if I wanted to," Bruno said in that flat, dark tone that Julieta hated. "Even if Mamá was right and I was just being too shy...It wouldn't work. She's blind to it, but who'd want Bad Luck Bruno?" He snorted, seemingly unaware of how his sisters flinched. "Stupid rumours are finally coming in handy, hermanas."
Julieta was his big sister. The eldest. She knew exactly how to snap him out of it.
"It's their loss," she said. Starting to grin, she leaned against him, wrapping her arms around both of her siblings. "Because mi hermanito has such a big heart!"
"Oh no," Bruno muttered as Pepa started to giggle.
"And is so creative!"
"Julieta, stop," Bruno groaned. He tried to push away and stand up, but Pepa helped pin him into the group hug, laughing more than ever.
"So funny and sweet, and look at those beautiful green eyes!"
"Dios mio, Julieta, stop it! We're too old for this!" But Bruno was finally snickering as he tried in vain to push her away.
"Never!" Julieta cupped his face in her hands, kissing both his cheeks and his forehead in rapid succession, finally giving into the urge to giggle herself. She continued as Bruno finally broke into true laughter and she cooed all the while; "Hermano bébé, mi corazón, pequeño! Te amo, mi hermanito!"
"Julieta!" The last of the tension left his narrow shoulders as he laughed against her shoulder. "You're impossible."
"Ay, we're all impossible if you believe Mamá," Pepa said with a wave of her hand. She was grinning broadly, a rainbow above her head. "And our teachers."
"Tch, do you have any idea how many of them expected me to be trouble because of you?" Bruno asked, slapping their sister's arm.
"You were trouble."
"Lies and slander. I never got caught, hermana mayor."
"You don't still think he's the one who stuck chalk in our teacher's erasers, do you?" Julieta sighed.
"He did!" Pepa protested. "How do you still not believe me!?"
"Because it's ridiculous!"
"You know he's a little shit, you just fall for those puppy-eyes every time-"
"If you're gonna fight, take it outside," Bruno said. "I don't want blood on my bed again."
"That was one time!"
"One time too many, Pepi!"
Julieta remembered that particular fight. Pepa had shoved her and Julieta had smacked her face off Bruno's headboard, earning herself a bloody nose. Bruno had only been ten and he'd started screaming at the sight.
Sighing fondly, Julieta pushed Bruno's hair off his face, trying in vain to keep it out of his eyes; it immediately curled back into place.
"You're perfect the way you are," she said gently. "I hope you know that."
Bruno smiled at her, leaning against her shoulder again. "Gracias, Juli," he said.
It wasn't quite an agreement, but she'd take it.

More from Answers from the 35 Questions for Fanfiction Writers! ✨
3. I'm really good with voice. I always have been. I also think I'm good at staying true to a character while putting them in new situations. 4. I adore @metaphoricaltigers' slightly tetchy ace/aro Bruno (thinking especially of Petting Zoo), @acewithapaintbrush's wonderful, well-developed family moments in their Pedro Lives AU, @cheetour's Tail of the Frog for blessing me with my favourite funny Bruno moment in any fanfic ever, and @wanderingstoryteller22 for the....um...plot 🥵(it's basically her fault I wrote Pining & Paperbacks because I want an OC to kiss Bruno by proxy too, dammit!) 34. (From Ojos) Bruno had suggested they make an appointment the next day, when he was (hopefully) a little fresher. Gustavo had insisted he come up to La Casita then and there. Bruno had told him today wasn’t an option. Gustavo had muttered something about how he couldn’t expect Bruno to understand how important anniversaries were anyway.                And Bruno might have said if Gustavo had to come to Bruno ‘perpetually single’ Madrigal for marriage advice that made him un marido de mierda and maybe Gustavo would be better off putting his mouth to work between Francisca’s legs than bothering Bruno with it. Bruno Just Saying Shit just has my whole entire heart, you don't even understand. I also love the image of Alma's head just whipping around from fifty feet away like "What did you just say?!?", Gustavo is clutching his pearls in shock, and Bruno just being like "...oh. I said that out loud."

Mumbling ‘The Family Madrigal’ under my breath and it comes out “Let’s be queer” instead of “let’s me clear” so…
Isabella is a lesbian. No other comments
Dolores is Bi. Because future Mr. Mariano Madrigal has such bi-wife energy.
Luisa is Demi. I just see her falling in love with a childhood friend or someone she really bonded with now that she has free time
Camilo, this child is Genderfluid. Either Pan or Ace, no in between with this kid
Mirabel, pan. No other comments as well.
Antonio is 5, but I feel as he grows he would find himself leaning towards the Ace-Spec.
Julieta is Bi.
Giving Augustín the honor of being a bi-wife energy bi man.
Pepa is Pan but demiromantic.
Felix is Pepa-attracted. All eyes on his gorgeous wife. Honestly, he is straight but a true ally. Will support all this kids.
Bruno that is an Aro-Ace if I ever saw one.
I feel like Alma could have been the fun bi grandma if Pedro, with his bi-wife energy, had lived and trauma hasn’t hurt her so.
