the fact that we barely have aroace/aro representation and when we do there's always at least one allosexual person trying to ship them in an allo way makes me actually upset

Okay let me talk about it.
Like everytime a character is canonized aroace people started to get annoying about it, shouting that aroace people can have relationships and if you are uncomfortable with them being shipped with another character you’re aro/ace-phobic.
Don’t get me wrong, they (we) can have relationships but I don’t think this is what people are uncomfortable about.
I personally think the problem is that you (generic person, not you reader) don’t really care that they are aroace. You don’t try to understand aromanticism or asexuality, you only use them to defend your ship.
What I’m saying is sure you can ship them, there’s no problem, but please at least try to understand it, try to talk to aroace people to know better the subject, most of all if you’re a fanfiction writer.
Sure, there’s aspec people too whose ship aroace characters, I’m not saying they don’t or that they shouldn’t, but I’m not talking about them now.
Not use the aroace spectrum just when it’s convenient to you, remember that it’s an important trait of the character.
Let’s not erase a sexual/romantic orientation that it’s so under represented and let’s use this “opportunity” to learn something more about aspectrum.
so, ship anyone you want, but try to contextualize it.

With the Percy Jackson show out I want to remind/inform both old and new fans that Artemis and the huntresses are canonically aroace.
Cabin 8 is not “for the lesbians”, it’s for us. Rick stated that NO romantic relationships are allowed, and if two huntresses fall in love (like Emmis and Jo), they have to leave the hunt.
Let us have our representation. We do not and should not need to share when our representation is already extremely limited.

It’s a little hard to describe how important Alastor being aroace is to me. He’s just this cool, suave, mysterious, petty guy with a silly voice that has the same attitudes as sex and romance as I do and I think that’s really cool and awesome.
Edit: There’s a follow-up

Marvel character Gwendolyn “Gwen” Poole aka Gwenpool has been confirmed aromantic and asexual!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gwenpool will come to terms with her sexuality in next week’s issue of Love Unlimited: Gwenpool, her current series which is made by an acespec creative team.
Acespec creators Jeremy Whitley @jeremywhitley, Bailie Rosenlund @bailiesartblog, Kelly Fitzpatrick, Alanna Smith @alannawrites and Kaitlyn Lindtvedt discuss Gwenpool’s asexuality and aromanticism in this new interview for Marvel.
It’s a really great interview, highly recommend reading it!
“Acespec people aren’t often shown in media and when they are, it’s often shown as a trope of being a broken thing that needs fixing. The more diversity and stories we can tell, the better.” -Kelly Fitzpatrick
Tumblr media
Love Unlimited: Gwenpool is available now from Marvel Unlimited. The concluding issue of this 6 part limited series will be out next week.
Tumblr media
Check out this reading list for Gwenpool if you’d like to read more of her comics!
Gwenpool is the second Marvel character to be confirmed asexual this year, although she will be the first to have her asexuality shown on-page.
Morgan Red was confirmed asexual back in March and his asexuality will be addressed in New Mutants Lethal Legion #5, out in July.

when alice said they had big plans for isaac i was so excited to see aroace rep, and i was absolutely not disappointed.
his whole storyline was amazingly done and written, i thiught it was really heartbreaking when isaac becomes frustrated with his friends for assuming he has a crush on james just because they hang out, and keep inserting themselves into his love life/life in general. i especially loved that isaac got his ‘heartstopper moment’ during the speech from episode 7 “sorry”, which was just so beautiful and isaac (& alice) really captured how it feels to live in a world where if you dont have a crush or a relationship, you dont matter and people don’t really pay much attention to you.
“being in a world where romance and sex are prized above everything else when you dont feel those forms of attraction. growing up feeling that something about you is different, but you dont have the words to describe what that is. but then, freedom. the euphoria of freeing yourself from those pressures and expectations.”
that was the best way ive heard being aroace being explained. its so difficult not knowing why you’re different and struggling to accept that youre not broken. this speech was beautiful.
im so excited to see how isaac continues on this journey in season 3, and see him accept himself more and see theres nothing wrong with him.

Hello! My name's Alanna and I'm the lead editor of LOVE UNLIMITED, Marvel Unlimited's romance comic line. This week we finished a story about Gwendolyn Poole, AKA Gwenpool, coming to the realization that she's aromantic and asexual--and though I usually prefer to let the stories speak for themselves, I wanted to talk a bit about this one.
There was basically no awareness of the asexual spectrum when I was growing up--I went through both high school and college secretly feeling like I was some kind of alien in a world that made no sense to me. Finding out that other people experienced the same thing, and that I wasn't weird or broken, was a big moment in my life.
I know how much it would have meant to me to see a character grappling with the same questions I was. I searched desperately for myself in stories as a kid even though I couldn't quite define what I was looking for yet. I'm so glad that there are more ace stories now, and honored that we were able to bring one more into the world.
I was inspired and emboldened to pitch this story by the work my friends Andrea Shea, Ro Stein and Ted Brandt did on Connor Hawke's story at DC, by Latoya Raveneau's ace advocacy within Disney, and by my erstwhile assistant editor and co-conspiritor Kaitlyn Lindtvedt, who, I discovered after a few months of working together, was also ace! We were helped and supported at every step by other aces at Marvel as well--there are more of us than you might think! It's also amazing that our EIC and Marvel greenlit this story and gave us the freedom to tell it the way we wanted.
I'm so grateful to @jeremywhitley, @bailiesartblog and Kelly Fitzpatrick for bringing this story to life. Working with an all-ace team has been so special--there's just something magic about knowing that even though our individual experiences differed, we had something fundamental and formative in common. There are pieces of all of us in this story, if you know where to look.
Anyway! Like many aces, this is something I get shy talking about, haha--so that's all I've got for you! (Unless you want to read more here!) Thank you all for reading and loving the story, and congrats to aroace icon Gwenpool!

coming straight from my three page long notes app essay I wrote at 4am after seeing the barbie movie, some thoughts on why barbie is definitely aroace, and why that means the world to me tbh:
BARBIE IS AROACE. TELL ME IM WRONG.
barbie not wanting to be with ken is so important. she never has to explain herself. she’s just not interested. and that’s okay. she’s never shamed or ostracized because she’s not interested in ken. it's not played for jokes. there’s never even a moment of “well, maybe barbie will have a realization that ken's been there all along and they'll end up together”. nope, there’s never any expectation. and it’s not even in a girlboss feminism, “she doesn’t need a man” kind of way. she just doesn’t want that, and the movie respects that. the movie respects what she wants, which is something we don't see much when it comes to aroace rep (or like most rep when it comes to women tbh).
barbie also turns down ken in a way that makes it clear that she's just not interested. there's no hesitation or sugar coating to it. we see this in the "girls night" scene in front of the dreamhouse, when barbie says simply, she doesn't want ken there. even later on when she turns him down in ways that are a little nicer, she's still very firm in her decision. time and time again we see barbie knowing what she wants and asserting it. we live in a world where when turning down men women always feel the need to be nice about it and "let them down easy" either out of being polite or sometimes as a safety precaution. regardless, to see barbie be able to be firm in her decisions is so empowering.
I love how this subverts expectations, bc we know ken is (supposed to be) barbie’s boyfriend. she’s everything and he’s just ken (although we can get into the nuances of that statement some other time). that is the role ken has always played. so to have that subverted, to make it clear to begin with that barbie is not really all that into ken is such a nice change.
this is also SO important because barbie is a beacon of “stereotypical” femininity, and has also been historically sexualized. so the fact that the movie lets her be feminine and girly but she can still not be interested in ken is amazing. she is still allowed to be herself, and her femininity is neither tied to, nor does it detract from her want to not be with ken. the movie said girls can be feminine without being tied to male attention !! girls can be feminine just bc its fun !!
I can talk about this for hours it’s so genuinely healing for me. I doubt many others picked up on it, hell idk that this all was intentional, but I loved it <3

You, a monster fucker, have finally found a vampire… except that there’s just one problem.
“What do you mean you won’t suck my blood?”
“Does it look like I’m a blood sucking vampire? I’m a fruit bat! I don’t drink blood, that’s disgusting.”
“But… but my fantasies…”
“I’m more than just a kink! Ugh, humans and their fetishes.”
And then they were roommates.

In light of how Hazbin Hotel handled Alastor's asexuality, I really do hope this gives aro/ace representation in fiction more momentum.
I can't be the only one who feels that the aromantic and asexual community should get a little more acceptance and acknowledgement in fiction (and in fandom)!

aroace alastor and fandom
I love alastor and I'm very glad hes aroace as i am also aroace and it's super nice to have representation as aroace rep isn't very common. I hate the way the fandom treats him though. He's been at least asexual from the start but people shipped him with everyone under the sun (including themselves) and wrote so much smut about him. Even after the q&a where alaster is also confirmed to be aro people still ship him with people in a way that's reciprocated and/or sexual. (I like the idea of vox/alastor where it's a one sided obsession). It genuinely disgusts me that people will ignore his canon sexuality just to fulfill their fucked up fantasies. I'm clinging to the representation that I can get but half the fandom treats him like his sexuality isn't a lack of attraction. I just want to feel like my sexuality is respected and viewed as something a character can be. 'He's so sexy tho' It doesn't matter that you think he's sexy that doesn't give you a right to violate his character and change his identity to suit your whims. Sorry it just pisses me off.

I’m extremely surprised that no one else has headcanoned Nike (goddess of victory) as aroace.
The main “aroace goddesses” (Hestia, Athena, and Artemis) were all virgin goddesses that were immune to Aphrodite’s power, hence why people often headcanon them as aroace.
While Nike herself isn’t said to be able to resist Aphrodite’s power, she is a virgin goddess by choice and never took a lover, which might actually prove even more how she’s aroace. Even though she isn’t immune, she still had no interest in anyone.
Anyways we love our aroace queens <33
