You wanna know how you make such an iconic line that much more impactful?
You have it spoken by someone who's burying her own humanity under a facade of corporate presentability because she believes she can do nothing to save humanity.
By someone who's trying to save her family from a cruel and oppressive system by joining the people who control it, no matter how much she regrets it.
By someone who does utterly terrible things that she regrets, not out of selfish desires, but out of utter hopelessness and desperation caused by the knowledge that she cannot do anything to stop the inevitable.
GOD I LOVE HER CHARACTER SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If y'all were to ask me why Barb Howard is perhaps my favourite character in the whole series, allow me to refer you to this scene here.
It's nothing short of emotionally devastating as you watch all the parroted corporate PR and that carefully constructed facade that Vault-Tec wants her to keep up crumble away to reveal the desperation and despair that drove her to make the decisions she made.
It adds so much to the tragedy of her character (and her family) because she doesn't want to join the management to harm or exploit anyone but to escape those who would do so to her and her family. She believes she can't rage against the machine, so she joins the people who run it, no matter how she doesn't want to.

This scene demonstrates why I love how Vault-Tec is written as an evil corporation. It's not the usual mustache-twirling, over-the-top villainy you see in other media. It's quiet, subtle, and very realistic, which only serves to make Vault-Tec that much more terrifying.
When Cooper finishes describing how Vault-Tec was responsible for the deaths of countless people, the executive here does two things: a) he makes their deaths about himself (ALL WHILE NOT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGING THEM!), and b) he makes it about "Product Management."
It really emphasizes the theme that corporations like Vault-Tec and the suits who run them at Vault-Tec only care about the company and its products and NOT the people who use them (or are being used by them).

Does anyone else find it interesting that whenever the main antagonists in Hazbin Hotel talk about/to Charlie, they always address her as Lucifer's descendant instead of her actual name?
It emphasizes how they think Charlie's only importance is being descended from someone important. They don't acknowledge the power, agency, or identity that she possesses herself and only see her as an extension/instrument of her father. But as we see in the show, she demonstrates that she is so much more!
Just an interesting detail I thought I'd talk about.

Making Lucifer shorter than Charlie is low-key brilliant because it perfectly symbolizes how Lucifer is looking up to Charlie FIGURATIVELY as well as literally.
I think the way Charlie and Lucifer help each other develop as characters brilliantly subverts the traditional parent-child dynamic you see in other fiction because Lucifer is the one who needs to grow and mature and the one who needs to learn from his own daughter instead of the other way around. Not only that, but it also represents how Charlie has managed to "become a bigger person" than her father because of all the work and effort she's doing for her people.
Or maybe I'm just reading WAAAAY too deeply into this stupid ass show lol.

Is it just me, or does something seem very... autistic about this man?
Maybe it's the way he hyperfixates on ducks, or how he tends to keep to himself, or maybe it's how his social awkwardness/anxiety consumes him every waking moment, but there's something about the way he acts and interacts with others that just screams neurodivergence.
What say y'all?

In light of the recent revelations about Alex Kister, I've decided to go scorched earth on all my TMC posts; shitposts, art, theories, and all.
I have no regrets going forward.
Fuck Alex Kister (and all of his apologists).
