Day 6 — 10/ 100 Days of Code
✧˖° ♡ This week' progress
I think I finally built a steady studying routine - over the past few days, I managed to wake up every day at 6 a.m. and take the first hour to work on coding.
My focus was on exploring CSS transition and keyframe animations.
I discovered that the secret to
✧˖ cool CSS animation ˖✧
is the right manipulation of transition-duration, delay, and timing-function.
I also learned how to transform elements in 2D and 3D space by using a set of CSS properties ( rotate, skew, scale, transform-origin ), and setting the perspective.
As a strong believer of the theory "learn through doing", I based my study plan on 20% theory, 80% experimenting with css and creating silly animations

new year's planning...also oops cuz i just realized i made a typo (no way would i survive a one-month long course in organic chem...thank god they don't exist 😅)
honestly so not ready to go back to school, i just wanna finish all the programming courses i started and read all the journal articles i want to (they're a large contributor to the many browser tabs i have open 😭). it's not because i don't like what i'll be learning about - the journal articles i'm reading are on life sciences topics after all. i dread the rigidity and unforgivingness of the semester and lonely feelings that come with it. i feel so much more free and like i have a choice in how i spend my days when i'm not in school.
study stats (50/10): 🍅🍅🍅🍅(? i stopped counting after 3h)
meditate ✅
physio ✅
finish reading metabolomics article ✅
start reading proteomics article ✅
learn Perl ✅
learn R ✅
exercise ✅

22nd Oct || Day 1 of 100 days of code/productivity
Tumblr media
today I created a general plan for what I want to accomplish over the next couple months in terms of learning to code. I had a Codeacademy subscription that I had totally forgotten about so I logged in and enrolled into the Learn C Skill Path course - which teaches you the fundamentals of C programming. I chose this course because my university prefers to teach their intro to programming course in C (all Computer Science students _must_ take this course as a prerequisite in order to progress to harder courses that will only build up on the knowledge acquired in here). I've heard it's pretty daunting for a beginner to learn programming in C so let's see how it goes. Just because I've heard scary things does not necessarily mean I should quit so soon. I'm no less than the nerdy guy in class who developed a game at the age of 11 or something, haha.
The course seems to be very beginner-friendly, indeed. and the code environment as well as the terminal are integrated into the website so that we can practice as we learn, so that's good. I'm liking it so far!
The first lesson included the basics of C - everything from:
ensuring you have the correct syntax written down so that the code is able to compile
escape sequences (\n -> add new line and \t -> add new tab)
line comments and block comments that are used to document code as you go
I also learnt how to compile a C program using gcc, yay!
that's it for today, it is now nearly 5:30 am as we speak, and I was not able to get any work done all day because we have a religious festival going on from now through this upcoming month, so needless to say I'll be busy helping my family with preparations. but I really hope to commit to learning how to code for at least 2-3 hours every day, as it would make a massive difference. g'night besties! <3

Daily Journey : Day 1
Tumblr media
This tumblr started with me just wanting to share my coding journey in November of last year.
No pressure of wanting likes, followers or anything like that. Just share in a safe place.
And I understand that now that has changed. Now I worry about the reach of my posts, I worry about people thinking I'm a failure and that I won't get things and likes.
And all this is useless in my life. I don't have to show anyone anything and I don't need to be liked, etc.
And I don't want that for myself.
So I thought about keeping my diary about this stage in my personal life private, as I already do with my emotions/days normally.
But I also think it might be cool to have that record here.
So, for now I'm here and overcoming my desire to start a tumblr from scratch (I always start something from scratch when I want to feel free). Now this idea is not so cool in my head. But I love seeing my old posts that I was thinking about giving up and now I'm in a better place.
Anyway:
Notes on the first day.
In general, I was very anxious, insecure because I don't know how to socialize with strangers who don't know what they're going to ask me. I need to know what is going to be said or know the subject to feel good. But it was nice and fun, they made it friendly.
We introduce ourselves in a fun way to get to know each other.
We learned more about project delivery and the like.
We had a 30m class where we talked about web introduction. Like mozilla, url, domain etc.
+++ I know that on tumblr the post photo dynamic is different, but I want to keep it standard. So I will follow my rules, because this is my account.
If you are reading this post, I wish you to be well, have discipline and consistency to achieve your goals.
Update notes:
As they leave the classes recorded, I went to watch it now and found a lot of doubts.
1. I paid attention on the recording (I don't pay attention live, maybe this will improve and maybe not)
2. I wrote down the questions
3. I researched each one and left some to ask in class because they want us to do this.
And now I'm feeling productive.
I didn't let it pile up, I did what had to be done and I'm ready for tonight's class.
I think I'll set the default of my posts for after rewatching the classes.
Have a great night, afternoon or morning.

when you have to make your own luck because shit happens 👩‍💻🐈‍⬛
You know those days when everything is just weird and off? Yup, that was today for me 🙃 I like to think I tried my best anyway 🤷‍♀️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
⚡💻 There was a power outage and my monitor stopped working just before standup. The fix ended up being to turn it off and on again 🤦‍♀️
🖥️👩‍💻 Through trial and error, I figured out the very specific way we need to access our production database via a script running in a python shell 🐍
🤸‍♀️🙆‍♀️ Did my physio exercises to escape my work responsibilities because... I'm tired 그리고 너무 힘들고 (trans: and it's so hard) 😩🥺
📒✍️ Morning pages where I complain some more 🥲😅 and then gaslight myself into getting on with it through my future-self affirmation 🤡
youtube
💌: I decided to quit while ahead after documenting more API specifications and investigating two more bugs that (surprise, surprise) turned out to be nothing, but I'm never getting those hours back and there's still so much I need to do! 📂🪲 Please excuse me while I play my comfort song for the umpteenth time today 🥲

Brainstormed specific graphs and statistics I want to see on my book tracker app
Went to the mall, saw Dunkin Donuts Iced Coffee jelly beans (???)
Got some coloring books for mindfulness, and some sticker books for journaling :)
Got a milk frother to make that TikTok iced coffee with foam on top
Colored like an uncoordinated child in my new coloring book 🙃

100 days of productivity
Hey guys!
Today I wanted to go ice-skating, but unfortunately the rink had a closed practice for kids so it didn’t happen. No worries, I got coffee and cake and looked at the cutest pomeranian dog in the most charming cafe. So all’s good.
Now for the studying:
- morning Duolingo French
- Biochem lecture number 1 out of 25 (ugh) - another one to go today!
- Coding seminar - another 45 minutes - I took gorgeous gorgeous notes
Might update this later, depending on how much perseverance I want to have today...? No rush.
Tomorrow I start my regular classes, but luckily I have them online for another week. First big test is on Wednesday, I have another essay due on Sunday and a presentation for Monday. Seems achievable right?
in other news I bought a lot of cute cats and dogs stickers for my bullet journal and I’ve never been more excited to keep up with writing in one

100 Days of Code Log #2
Finished Introduction to Front-End Development by Meta on Coursera. The programming assignments just covered HTML and CSS. The quizzes also included some concepts and frameworks.
Onto the next course - Programming in JavaScript. Hopefully, its just challenging enough to keep me hooked to the specialization.

Biden's visit has concluded. Israel has spent his entire visit trying to muddy the waters of what happened to Al Ahli Hospital and despite their cartoonish efforts, it hasn't worked
Tumblr media
The Global South and especially West Asia know who is responsible for the bombing and no amount of AI voice recordings of 'Hamas operatives' can change that.
Israel war crimes continues to backfire on them even in America
Tumblr media
Biden backing Israel has had an impact on America's image. Here's a Wall Street Journal article warning that America's continued support is turning countries towards Russia and China which is code for turning countries against America
An EU official said that the EU will pay a heavy price in the Global South for its continued, unabashed support for Israel
Tumblr media
There's also speculation that the Biden administration knew about the bombing before it happened.
Countries that were/are allied with Israel continue to distance themselves from Israel like Russia. The reason I keep highlighting Russia is because the West has been running out of ammunition due to the Russia-Ukraine war and that includes Israel which is rumoured to have sent 80-90% of its ammunition to Ukraine. If this conflict lasts a long time, Israel will need to buy weapons and ammunition and Russia would be one of the countries they would turn to (same with China)
Tumblr media
So, where are we in terms of the conflict? After days of waffling over a ground operation in Gaza, Israel postponed it until some time after Biden's visit and now we're back here again
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now I'm no military expert but constantly going back and forth on whether or not you'll invade Gaza is bound to do damage to your troops' morale. No wonder they're dealing with mass desertions while their citizens demonstrate on the streets. The Israeli leadership has no plan besides bombing Gaza.
Tumblr media
I've seen people on twitter say that the hospital bombing was done deliberately to normalise IDF soldiers to mass civilian deaths in places like hospitals, schools, places of worship, etc. I don't know if I believe that - I think they wanted to push Iran and Hezbollah's buttons before hiding behind Biden. I don't think these people are thinking strategically.
As far as the possibility of regional war is concerned, all indicators show that the West preparing for the war to escalate
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seems to me the Israel has seen what Ukraine has received in just a year and a half of war. They're done receiving a paltry 3.8 billion every year and now prepared to drag out the conflict and I can't say I blame with Biden proposing a 100 billion package for both Ukraine and Israel. This will stretch America too thin as far as funding in concerned. Cracks are already showing
Tumblr media
There are parts of the US government that is unhappy that the Ukraine war is losing attention. During the Ukraine war, you had parts of the government that wanted focus to shift from Russia to China. Because of that, the US government has spent the past year alternating between hostility to Russia and threatening to go to war with China over Taiwan. When Niger expelled France from within its borders, America was preparing to join that conflict until Mali and Burkina Faso declared they would fight with Niger. Now they're entering a third front in West Asia. In short, the mighty empire is expending a lot of resources right now and it is not the threat it was when it invaded Iraq and Afghanistan in the early 2000s.
At any rate, the ground invasion of Gaza won't go the way Israel and America hopes it will
Tumblr media
The coalition of Palestinian resistance fighters are still patiently waiting for the IDF to come meet them. Their allies aren't backing down either
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The reason I keep making these posts is to remind people that, while the genocide of the people of Gaza is horrifying, the war for the liberation of Palestine has not yet been lost.
Do not lose hope. From the river to sea, Palestine WILL be free

✧˖° ♡ Hello world!
I'm Maria, a 28 years old on a coding journey.
My 20s were a non ending loop of me struggling with health issues and postponing all my dreams - I can no longer keep waiting for the perfect set of circumstances to work on my goals.
Building websites is something that I always wanted to do, I've made my first attempts at coding around eight years ago, but then life happened, I got sick and learning to code was no longer a priority, eventually I completely gave up on my dream of becoming a web developer.
But it's never too late to start again, as long as I'm breathing and my brain is functioning, I can do whatever I set my mind to!
I made this sideblog to document my progress, share my learning and maybe inspire some passers-by.
There's no failure, except in no longer trying.
Let's keep growing 🌱

i think a lot of people who are working on their grimoire / book of shadows or what have you forget is that it's supposed to be unique. your book of shadows isn't supposed to be filled with generalized information that just any witch can open up and use. you're not marketing your practice to the masses to consume. it's supposed to be unique, and weird, and messy, and filled with information so unique to your own practice that it's borderline gibberish to someone else.
here are some ideas on how to make your grimoire / book of shadows less accessible to other people and more accessible to yourself.
you can have as many books of shadows as your heart desires. you can have one for divination, one for spells, one for mushroom hunting, one you only use in the summer or the winter, etc. you don't have to shove all of your information into one notebook. separating the information will give you more room to go more in-depth for certain subjects. and it will make it harder for people to know exactly what you've got going on, if that's something you're into.
forget about aesthetics. forget about looking cool or legitimate or neat or organized. forget about how someone else would perceive your BoS/grimoire if they found it. if you're a new witch, and especially if you came from tiktok, you need to unlearn that witchcraft requires aesthetics and certain tools in order to be "legitimate." you can use a spiral bound notebook, you can use scraps of paper put in a manila folder, you can use a tumblr blog, you can print out pages from images on Google and put them in a 3 ring binder and call it day, you can use multiple bulletin boards hung up in your kitchen - ALL OF THOSE ARE LEGITIMATE MEDIUMS FOR A BOS! it's not about what looks the best, it's about what's the most functional for you - the term "book" is just a jumping off point.
come up with a written code that only you have the key to. get one from online, take one from history, or make up your own. write your grimoire or just the important pages, or even just the even or odd pages in code. make it so people cannot physically read your BoS. sigils and protections are great, but keeping people physically out is even better. mine is written partially in Scottish Gaelic and partially in a written code that i invented when i was 11. can anyone else read it? no. because that's the point.
go to the craft store and buy a journal lock. put a lock on it. wear the key around your neck. it'll make you feel so powerful, trust me.
include sketches and drawings of plants, animals, your altar, your house, you, your pets, stones, nature, etc. pretend like you're being paid to illustrate a children's book and go nuts. adding little drawings and sketches of the things you use in your practice, or things you see all of the time, or places you go is a great way to set the mood of your grimoire.
along the same lines, use crayons and colored pencils and markers not just black ink. use glitter. use ribbons. use bias tape. go to the craft store and get stickers. put those in there. whatever you think is cute or you like the best.
tape in more pages! if your notebook is only 100 pages long and you know you're going to need more pages, tape some more in! the limit is only how far the rubber band holding your grimoire closed will stretch before snapping (and even then you can just tie it with ribbon or twine or something)
you can also do taped in fold outs for maps, drawings, recipes, etc
why not add polaroid pictures or pictures you printed off google or pictures you got printed at walmart?
you can add stickers and sequins and glitter to the outside too. it doesnt need to look ancient and serious. we dont live in ancient and serious times. get funky with it.
if you've been struggling with your BoS or grimoire i hope this post helps you!

Journaling
Why journal? I am pretty sure by now, you have heard a thousand influencers tell you that you SHOULD journal because it is magically going to clean up the mess that is your brain, organize your life, make you happier, richer, prettier, and solve world hunger. And if you are not journaling, there's probably something wrong with you.
And they're right. Not the world hunger part, unfortunately. There is prolly something wrong with you and that something is Being A Human Being. It is a the most widespread condition with a 100% of the population being chronically affected and the only available cure is Death. But let me not digress.
Unless you are one of those gifted people blessed with mounds of motivation and crates of consistency, it can be very difficult to start and even more difficult to continue a habit such as journaling.
I am definitely not one of the chosen ones and Heaven knows I have more dead unfinished projects than I have pages of New Year Resolutions but allow me to audaciously claim that I have cracked the code! The trick is....Just Journal.
 Hold on hold on, do not click away yet even though Yes I am going to say the exact same thing all the ‘motivators’ before me have said. Seriously, JUST DO IT! What stops us is the thought that it is not going to be 'perfect' or 'aesthetic' enough but puhleeeezeee, Life is Not a Pinterest board, even though I sure wish it was. Just write something. Anything! My first journal entry ( just like this article I am currently writing ) was written in the middle of a boring class. It went something like this ;
25 March 2019
I'm bored.......I could cry or die srsly. Should I just sleep?? What are they gonna serve in the dining hall today?
How original eh?
I was in boarding school then, thus the strange reference to a dining hall. That was all I needed to get started.I realized I did not need to make every sentence perfect and pretty and I could use abbreviations and unconventional punctuation. I was not accountable to anyone but myself!! I just put all my rambling messy unconnected thoughts as they came into my head. No one is going to check your spelling or punctuation or if you are using enough active verbs, whatever those are. So seriously just write.
You find out stuff you did not even know about yourself. For example I found out that I do not hate writing, as much I thought I did. What I hate is the physical activity of moving my hand. It makes my hand hurt, not that I'm lazy, although that could also be true, don’t judge me......
So please, just write. It really is an interesting pastime and writing is such a useful skill. I could talk for days on end how useful writing is for your brain, your social life, your development both personal and intellectual. Pick up a pen ( one that doesn’t make your wrist hurt, please ) and scribble awayyyyy !!!! ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡
PS: I just got the greatest idea. Reblog with your first journal entry! It doesn’t have to be a physical journal. It could be on your phone; a notes app. Google docs, A journal app. Heck you can chisel your entry on a piece of rock, just make sure to write something!!

2- Don't meditate after working out. My breath control and heart rate were so out of wack.

💌: I heard this advice recently, "become the person you want in your life," and I don't know if that's good or bad advice because it's highly dependent on the kind of people you want in your life, isn't it? I want someone who will match my (non-existent) energy levels. Is that going to make me a better person? Probably not. Will it make me happy? Probably yes. 🦥
