The Night Has A Thousand Eyes
The night has a thousand eyes,     And the day but one; Yet the light of the bright world dies     With the dying sun. The mind has a thousand eyes,     And the heart but one: Yet the light of a whole life dies     When love is done.
-Francis William Bourdillon
The Way I See It
The night has a thousand eyes, the stars in the sky. You could say the stars are the little holes through which the Universe looks at us down here on our little Earth . The mind has its stars and they are the different ways by which we see the world; the different perspectives. And we are the Universe, looking down on the world which is our life through these eyes. Through our perspectives and worldviews( get it? xD) we have built during the course of our life.
But the heart has only one way of seeing the world and that is through love. When we are in love, the feeling outshines all other feelings and everything pales in comparison. Just as the sun outshines the numerous stars in the sky when it is up in the sky. When we are in love, we feel happier, lighter and even our most serious problems seem to take on a rosy tinge. There is no darkness and no night.
But just like the sun, when our love dies, when the light dies, everything becomes dark again. And we see through our stars; the dim ones and the bright ones. The red ones and the blue ones. It is a broader way to see the world yes….. but it would never be as bright as when we see the world through love.

The proverbs, the wit, the vivid characters and descriptions. Once again Chinua Achebe has outdone himself in his second ( chronologial) book in The African Triology,
Despite the serious themes it tackles, I found myself hollering, literally, at some of the sayings and the sarcasm prevalent in almost every conversation.
I also got to see how painful it must have been to lose one's religion slowly but surely. We take for granted the fact that Christianity came to displace numerous ethnic religions. We do not consider the pain the priests and priestesses, faithful worshippers of the gods AND the gods themselves must have felt as they saw their culture and existence dilute and then vanish. Powerlessly.

The novel is a vision of a dystopian future where inhabitants are arranged in intelligence based castes created by genetic breeding. Words like ‘Mother’ and ‘Father’ are obscene ( hilarious!) and casual sex is the norm because everyone belongs to everyone. Some sort of communism type of arrangement but with human bodies.  They comply with a completely authoritarian rule not because they are forced to, but because they have been psychologically conditioned to through hypnosis and constant physical and sensual stimulation. So the citizens actually want to be ruled that way. Honestly if that doesn’t scare you, I don’t know what will.  The novel was written during the rise of fascism so its effects were not appreciated at the time. Everyone was all about George Orwell’s 1984 because it resembled the reality they were living then.  But in our world of trivial mass entertainment and constant dopamine hits, the themes in Brave New World are unfolding right before our very eyes. Tiktok is soma. You cannot change my mind! Okay you can. I do like arguments. The nice kind. (ㅅ´ ˘ `)

Asleep! O Sleep A Little While, White Pearl! -Poem by John Keats
A poem by John Keats from the Romantic era? And who is John Keats you may ask? Well he was only one of the GREATEST English poets of all time, a contemporary of Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley. Unfortunately his poems were not so popular in his lifetime but becamse so after his death - which came a bit too soon - at the age of 25. Of tuberculosis. A pure shame
