Like Father like Daughter
WinterWidow x Daughter!reader
Summary: You just can’t help but copy Bucky by acting like an old man
A/N: This is such a cute request!!
———
Bucky sat on the edge of the messy bed, stretching his arms overhead. The events of the day had taken a toll on his body, and every movement seemed to elicit a groan from his tired muscles. Nearby, Natasha was occupied with some paperwork, occasionally stealing glances at her husband and their daughter, Y/N, who was playing with her toys on the floor.
As Bucky attempted to stand up from the bed, he couldn't suppress the groan that threatened to escape his lips. The strain of the day weighed heavily on him, and his body protested the movement. To his surprise, he heard a tiny voice echoing his groan. Looking down, he saw you attempting to mimic him, your face scrunched up in concentration as you grunted like an old man.
“I’m sooooo old! Ouchie my back!” You exclaimed with an exaggerated tone, you found great joy in mocking Bucky.
Chuckling softly, Bucky ruffled your hair before making his way to the couch where Natasha sat. With a sigh, he lowered himself onto the cushions, feeling the familiar ache in his back. As he pressed his hands into his lower back, trying to find some relief, your eyes widened with curiosity.
Copying your father's actions, you stood up on your little legs, kicking a few toys as you did and staggered over to where Bucky sat. With exaggerated grunts and stretching movements, you mimicked his every action, your tiny fingers poking at your little back as if trying to alleviate nonexistent discomfort.
“My back! Sooo sore!” You fake complained again, you couldn’t stop the little giggle that escaped your lips and the smirk crawling up your little face.
Natasha couldn't help but smile at the adorable sight before her. You were always looking up to your parents, whether that being copying Nat’s combat moves or Bucky’s old man groans.
With a playful chuckle at Natasha, Bucky scooped you into his arms, planting a kiss on your forehead. "Looks like someone's learning from the best," he teased, earning a giggle from you.
As the evening wore on, Bucky and you continued your imitation game, much to Natasha's amusement. Sticking your hands in your back and letting out exaggerated groans to try and copy each other, it was moments like these, simple and full of love, that made their little family feel whole.

Back in time au: part 1
Summary: Bucky and Natasha’s daughter seeks comfort in her Aunt Wanda as her parents go missing on a mission
Warnings: major character death, panic attack, grief
Pairings: winterwidow
wc: 3.5k
- ⧗ -
The sound of Wanda's phone ringing shocked her awake. The room was pitch black and she fumbled around for the light switch. Tapping the phone to switch it on, the bright screen flashed 4:36am and she groaned. But Fury's name got rid of any thoughts she had of falling back asleep and she answered the call, sitting up in bed and pushing the hair from her face.
Y/n had slept in her own bed for a little over a week now, so luckily the phone call didn't wake her. Wanda was barely awake as Fury started talking, but at the mention of Bucky and Natasha, she was suddenly alert. As the call ended, she quickly threw on jeans and a shirt and raced downstairs to the meeting room.
As early as it was, the office was teaming with activity. Agents were typing away on computers and Fury was on the phone with someone who he clearly wasn't happy with. Wanda smiled at a couple of people she knew, but she felt so out of place. But Maria Hill came to her rescue and pulled her aside.
"Thanks for coming down Wanda. We've had a note that Bucky and Nat might be coming back today. I'm guessing Fury filled you in on everything?"
"Yeah. He said the quinjet had finally pinged a location?" When she first heard Fury tell her the news, she nearly screamed. But she knew not to get too excited. Nat and Bucky had been missing for weeks and this could just be another false alarm.
"We think. There have been a couple of wrong alerts before, but a team of agents left this morning to investigate the location. They could be back any minute." Maria was tapping away on a tablet as she spoke, her mind in 2 places at once. "You might want to get Y/n down here. She's gonna want to see her mom and dad if they get back."
"If?" Wanda was shocked at Maria's uncertainty.
"I'm sorry we can't give you a 'when' yet." Wanda nodded and slowly backed out of the room. The news of her best friends coming home had excited her, but everyone seemed so unsure, and it left an aching feeling in Wanda's gut.
She decided to distract herself by waking Y/n. The 16 year old was still fast asleep, as she should be. Quietly flicking on the bedside lamp, Wanda brushed the hair from Y/n's face.
"Good morning angel." She whispered as not to startle the poor girl. Y/n's eyes fluttered open and she squinted in the lamplight.
"Morning" she mumbled, stretching her arms and legs out to try and wake up. "What time is it?"
"It's early, baby, and I'm sorry. But we've got some stuff to do." Wanda tried to keep her answers as vague as possible. She really didn't want to get the girl's hopes up incase nothing came of today's investigation. But Wanda couldn't help but be hopeful.
The teenager didn't have any energy to argue. She would usually have gone back to sleep, but something was different about the way Wanda was behaving. Call it a gut instinct, or maybe because she was raised by Natasha, but Y/n could tell Wanda was excited. Why she was excited at 5am was a whole other story, but it was enough for the teenager to go on.
Wanda left the room to let Y/n get changed, which she did fairly quickly. Her usual signature braids had been swapped for a ponytail ever since Nat had left. But the hoodie she was wearing was Bucky's of course. It made her feel just that little bit closer to her parents, wherever they may be.
"What are you hiding?" Y/n asked as she tucked into her cereal. Wanda looked confused at how she'd managed to pick that up so quickly.
"I'm not sure what you mean, darling."
Y/n rolled her eyes and dropped her spoon on the table. "I'm not dumb. You seem excited. And we were up at 5am. None of that is normal behaviour for you. So what's changed?"
Wanda hesitated for a moment. She didn't want to tell Y/n, but the girl deserved to know. These were her parents in question and they couldn't withhold information about them. "There might be an update on your mom and dad." Y/n's eyes went wide and her spoon froze halfway to her mouth.
"What?" She breathed, her eyes filling with tears. "Really?"
"It's really early still, and it's just a location, but Fury thinks it's from their jet." Wanda told her everything she knew. The 16 year old was desperately fighting back tears as Wanda spoke, but the prospect of maybe seeing her mom again became too much. She completely broke down and dropped her head to the table, letting out heart wrenching sobs.
Wanda rushed to her side and pulled her into a hug. "I just want to see them again." Y/n cried against Wanda's shirt. "I miss them so much."
"I know baby girl, I know."
Y/n kept her head against Wanda's chest for a few minutes as she cried. "Can we go see Aunt Maria?"
"If that's what you want, then yeah. Let's go."
The teenager stood up on shaky legs and pushed away her half eaten breakfast, her appetite no longer there. She held on to Wanda's hand like it was a lifeline, gripping her fingers to make sure she was still there. It was a silly thought, but Y/n couldn't lose her too.
They were finally back in the office, but this time Steve was there. He was hovering near the doorway, looking as out of place as Wanda did when she first arrived. In any other circumstances, Y/n would have given him a hug, but she barely even noticed him as she walked in. Wanda flashed him a warm smile which her returned, but a tug on her sleeve notified her of the impatient teenager still hanging on to her arm.
Y/n was frantically searching for the familiar brunette that she loved. There were agents racing around everywhere and she recoiled back into Wanda, feeling rather exposed and overwhelmed. Wanda felt her goddaughter flinch into her side and she wrapped an arm around her protectively, guiding her through the sea of people to where Maria was stood. Y/n hands were slightly clammy, the intensity of the day already getting to her.
"Aunt Maria?" Y/n blurted out, her voice weaker than she intended. But the SHIELD agent still heard her and whipped around, shocked to see her niece.
"Hey Y/n, what-" She was cut off by the girl throwing her hands around her waist and tackling her into a hug, almost sending them both flying backwards.
"Please tell me you've heard something about them. Please Aunt Maria!" Y/n voice sounded so desperate that the surrounding agents shared a sorrowful look between them. Bucky and Nat's disappearance had been hard on everyone, but that kid had suffered the most. "I just want to see mama and papa. That's all I want."
Maria clung on to her niece harder. The truth was, they had more information, but Maria couldn't say what state the couple would be in until they came through the doors, and the last thing she wanted to do was worry the trembling girl anymore than she already was.
"I'm sorry Y/n, there's been nothing so far. But I promise you that-"
A yell from the hallway caught everyone's attention and cut Maria off mid-sentence. A group of agents sprinted through the hall, but what, or who, came after them was the main focus. After the chaos in the hallway cleared, Y/n could have a proper look of what was going on.
She let out a whimper and broke into a sprint, Wanda unable to hold her back. The doors at the end of the corridor were open and 2 people had just crossed the threshold. They were still quite far away, but Y/n knew those figures anywhere. If the red hair wasn't a dead giveaway, then the obvious height difference was. She kept running, getting closer and closer.
But as her body moved on autopilot, her mind span slightly. Her mama was smaller than Bucky, sure, but not that  much smaller. She kept running, but slowed down as she saw the scene in front of her. Her papa was walking with his arms holding Nat upright. She was hunched over, her hands pressing into her stomach as she stumbled, just trying to put one foot in front of the other. Bucky was muttering stuff in her ear, so the couple hadn't noticed their daughter stood 20ft in front of them.
Y/n felt sick to her stomach. She'd waited months, but it felt like years, for her parents to walk through that door. She'd dreamt about it so many times, the day they came home, the way they'd all be reunited as a family. Nat and Bucky would walk in without a scratch, their arms open wide to pull Y/n into a tight hug.
But dreams are not reality. They weren't waiting for a hug. They were being swarmed by doctors and Y/n found herself being pressed against a wall. Her chest felt tight as she watched her mama and papa walked past her without a second glance. She tried to call out, but her voice had been reduced to a whisper, proving futile against the noisy corridor.
She slumped to the floor, her legs giving out under her weight. This wasn't how this was supposed to go. The sweatshirt she was wearing felt suffocating and she pulled at the collar, trying to relieve pressure on her chest. Her mind was screaming at her to run after them, but she didn't move. She couldn't move.
People pushed and shoved above her but she payed no attention. Until a familiar hand grabbed hold of hers and pulled her into their arms. Steve picked up the frozen teenager and carried her back into the office where Wanda was still standing, relief flooding her features as she laid eyes on Y/n once more. The teenager hadn't noticed that she had moved locations, her mind was still replaying that moment in her head. Wanda sat with her in a quiet corner as she tried to bring her back, but Y/n sat there, shaking and sweating, her breathing erratic.
Wanda was good at calming panic attacks, but Y/n barely even acknowledged her presence. The witch was quickly running out of options and Y/n was getting paler and paler.
"Papa?" Y/n voice shook and she reached out, desperately trying to grab onto something. "Papa? Mama?" Wanda offered her hands but Y/N didn't accept them. The teen was still zoned out and Wanda tried her best to keep calm. Seeing Maria walk past the window, Wanda dashed out and grabbed the SHIELD agent, pulling her into the room.
"Please can Y/n see Bucky and Nat? She's in a state and she won't snap out of it. She needs her parents Maria. This girl needs her mom and dad." At the mention of Nat, Maria's smile faltered before she hauled it back in place.
Y/n was still closed in on herself, her hands clasped so tightly her knuckles were going white. She was mumbling about Nat under her breath and Maria couldn't help but worry for the girl. "Bring her with me."
She walked out of the room, Wanda hot on her heels. Steve had picked Y/n back up as they made their way to the restricted area of the medical centre. He could feel her body vibrating in his arms and as much as he was desperate to see his best friends, he knew his job was to make sure Y/n saw them too.
There were agents guarding one of the doors, but they saw Maria and let the entourage through, quickly resuming their positions once Steve had walked through. There was a section curtained off, but one person they wanted to see was sitting on a chair, his head in his hands, still in the clothes he wore on his mission.
"Buck." Steve couldn't believe what he was seeing. The best friends made eye contact and smiled before Bucky noticed his daughter in Steve's arms. He leaped up, ignoring his searing muscles, and quickly took her from him.
Y/n noticed that she'd moved and the person felt very familiar. "Papa?" Her voice was hoarse but she was slowly coming back to reality.
"It's me doll. It's Papa." He had tears streaming down his cheeks, and Bucky never cried. Y/n reached out and placed her palm against his cheek, wanting to feel that it was him. That he was real.
"You're real!" Y/n had finally grounded herself enough to fling her arms around his shoulders, burying her face into his neck. "You came back."
Bucky hugged her back with reciprocated emotion. "I'm sorry for leaving you doll. I really am. But I'm back." He pushed his face into her hair, just glad to be holding his daughter for real. Every night on the mission he and Nat would talk about stories and memories they had with Y/n, laughing about her as a toddler. They each had a photo they kept in their pockets, and Nat had Y/n's baby thumbprint on the handle of her gun alongside her own thumbprint, so she was always with her baby girl.
"Where's Mama?" Y/n looked around but saw no sign of her. She looked back at her papa, who eyes flashed with sadness. "Where's Mama!"
"She's just in there doll." He gestured to the blue curtains, and Y/n instantly climbed off his lap. "Wait a sec, let me come with you." She waited for him to stand up before they made their way over. "Be gentle with her, Y/n. She's a bit fragile at the moment."
Y/n nodded in understanding as Bucky slowly pulled the curtain open, allowing them to slip through. Y/n stopped still for a moment as she took in what she was seeing.
Her Mama. But she wasn't up and moving like Bucky was. She was on a hospital bed, with wires attached to her arms and chest. But her eyes were open. Her eyes were open and she had a smile on her face as she saw Y/n.
"Hey big girl" Nat breathed, lifting her arms to invite Y/n for a hug. As much as she wanted to run into her arms, Y/N looked back at Bucky for confirmation before she made her way over, collapsing gently into her mother.
"Mama" Y/n took a deep inhale of her mother's scent, missing the instant calming nature it had on her. She didn't know why Nat was in a hospital bed so she made sure to be careful, not putting her weight onto her mother's body at all. She felt immediately felt at home, the feeling of her mama's fingers running through her sending a calm feeling through her body.
"Oh my baby girl. I missed you so much." That was an understatement. Natasha felt as though she was missing a limb without Y/n.
"I missed you too, Mama. God I missed you so much, you don't understand. But you're ok, right? Wh-what happened?"
Y/n sat up and shifted so she was perched on the side of Nat's hospital bed, her fingers intertwines with her mother's. Bucky had taken a seat on one of the chairs at Nat's bedside, placing his hand on top of his girls'. "It's nothing, baby. You don't need to worry. Mama was just a bit careless that's all."
Y/n couldn't believe her. "You're never careless. Every move you make is so calculated and controlled. Natasha Romanoff never makes mistakes. Ever."
Nat and Bucky were both shocked by Y/n's outburst. Their little girl had always been spirited, but not to the extent where she would question her parents' words. Had so much really changed in the months they had been gone?
"You promised you would look after each other! That was the one thing keeping me from going crazy! Knowing that you were watching each other's sixes." Y/n had stood up from the bed in despair. "What if you had been killed? What do you do then? Come home and tell me that my mom is dead because you were to stubborn to protect each other! I could have lost you, mom!" Tears were streaming down her face as she spoke. "I can't lose you." Y/n exhaled a shaky breath, collecting her thoughts. "I can't lose either of you."
Nat went to speak, but was cut off with a groan. Her body tensed up, pain contorting across her features. Beads of sweat quickly formed across her forehead and Y/n moved back from the bed in panic. Bucky slammed his hand on the emergency button, moving to grab Y/n. Nat was screaming in pain and Y/n could barely watch. She wanted to make it stop. She would trade places if it meant her mom would be ok.
Doctors came rushing in, pulling up Nat's hospital gown to check on her stomach. Bucky tried to drag Y/n away but she kicked her heels in in protest, not wanting to leave her mama's side. But she almost vomited into a bucket as she saw the extent of her mom's injury.
There was a scar which looked like it had come from a bullet wound. It was healed but still looked relatively knew. But that wasn't the alarming part. The skin around it was black and it spread through her veins, send some sort of toxin surging through her body, attacking her muscles and nerves. Nat was injected with something to help the pain, but it had little affect.
Her heart monitor started to spike and she thrashed around, her back arched in agony. Y/n was yelling out, fighting Bucky's tight grip as she tried to get to Nat. The monitor kept rising, the beeps getting louder and louder. The walls of the room felt like they were closing in, crushing Y/n's lungs until she could barely breathe. Her mind was a reeling mess, adrenaline running through her veins like lava. The doctors were rushing around, connecting more wires and trying to reduce Nat's pain.
It stopped.
Everything stopped. Nat's body slumped into the mattress, her muscles no longer tensing, her chest no longer heaving. In fact, it didn't rise or fall at all. Just stillness. Y/n was frozen once again in Bucky's arms, her heart hammering inside her chest like a hummingbird. No one spoke. The only noise was the heart monitor.
The continuous beep.
The one that everyone dreads.
No one moved. No one dared say a thing.
Apart from the redheaded teenager who had just lost her sun. Her moon, the light in her life. Gone. Breaking out of her papa's grasp, she raced over to Nat and threw herself on top, sobbing into her mom's neck. There was no pulse, no warmth that she usually felt. It was all gone. Reduced to nothing but an empty shell of a person. The doctors left in respect, bowing their heads as they exited.
Y/n let out a scream which echoed through the whole compound. Everyone who heard it recognised it was not one of fear. It was one of loss, of grief. Holding on to her mama's shoulders, Y/n broke down. Her heart ached to say goodbye. To rewind the last 5 minutes and say goodbye. Her body had attached itself to Nat, her legs wrapped around her waist and her face buried in her neck. Y/n's hands found their way into Nat's hair and she twisted the Scarlett strands around her fingers, almost tying themselves together.
"I can't lose you Mama. I can't lose you." Her heartbreaking mantra started out as a whisper but gradually got louder until she was screaming the words. She was angry. At Natasha. At the universe. At herself.
Wanda had tried to go in, but Bucky had told her to wait outside. He couldn't bear to watch the agonising scene, and he wanted Y/n to have some privacy. She'd just found and lost her mama on the very same day.
"Come back. You need to come back!" Nat didn't move, no matter how hard Y/n begged and pleaded.
"I can't do this alone. I need you."
"I can't lose you." Y/n’s broken voice was reduced to a whisper as she continued to recite these words. This lasted for hours. No one could remove the grieving girl from her mother's body. She just lay there, breathing in her mother's scent for the final time.
"I can't lose you."

Part 1 , Part 3
"Very good, soldier." A voice interrupted the brief silence that had fallen over the room "You have finally completed your training and you're now ready for a very special mission."
The man stepped forward, allowing himself to get a better view of the subject in front of him in the dimness of the room.
You lift your head, every breath coming out in labored breaths, as you took in the sight of the agent in front of you.
Today's training session has been more intense than any other one, demanding you to overuse your powers.
"And what that might be?" You breathed out, straightening your back
The agent smirked "Oh, I can guarantee that you'll love this mission." He sang
"Then I am ready for any mission the organization has for me." You replied, intrigued by all the mystery of this upcoming mission
"That's what we love to hear." The man declared "Then it's time for you to know the target of your mission."
The agent lifted his hand and held a file up, extending it for you to grab.
"You have all the details here." He declared
You curiously opened the file and peeked at the first page inside of it.
You swallowed the lump that formed in your throat unexpectedly but you tried to maintain your composure as the reality of your actions and the identity of your supposed target settled in.
"I can't." You mumbled, your voice betraying your inner turmoil, as you quickly passed the file back to your boss "This wasn't the deal."
The agent chuckled.
"This was very much the deal, young soldier." He coldly replied "As I can remember, this was the plan you asked our help for."
A shiver ran down your spine and the rhythm of your heartbeat quickened its pace.
"No." You hesitantly shook your head "I said I needed help to take my revenge on her." You explained "Not on all of them. Not on him."
"But why stop there?" The agent raised his eyebrow "Why would you want to take your revenge on just one person when you can take it on all of them?"
"Even if it was true, the others are still my family." You reasoned
"Your family?!" The agent shouted, immediately silencing you "Must I remind you that this so-called family of yours abandoned you, that they threw you away as if you were mere trash?"
"It doesn't matter, Sir." You held your ground "I am not going to kill the Avengers."
You blinked.
The agent grabbed you by your vest with such force that, for a second, you weren't able to process what was happening.
"Listen here, Y/N." The agent mockingly whispered your name "This is HYDRA, not that joke of an agency called S.H.I.E.L.D. you grew up in. Your mission is to kill all of the Avengers, starting with those traitors who are now called Natasha Romanoff and Bucky Barnes. Am I clear?"
"Sir..." You tried to conceal the fear you were feeling, failing miserably "Sir, this went too far. I'm sorry but I can't." You shook your head
A shout was heard and your body collided with the cold floor as the HYDRA agent pushed you with all his force.
"Y/N Yelena Romanova." The agent shouted "You have been ours long before Natalia Romanova decided to play pretend that she can be something she was never meant to be." He hissed "A mother."
You kept your mouth shut, too afraid of saying something that might anger the agent more as he continued speaking.
"She stole you from us, gave you another name, just for you to return on your own will to us and ask us for help to get your revenge on her." He reminded you "We took you in, trained you, gave you powers, all just so you could make her pay and now you dare to reject the opportunity to kill them?!"
"Sir, I just..." You tried to defend yourself
"Shut up!" He ordered "I am going to give you three hours to think about your answer just to show you that we can have some understanding towards our subjects and when I'll summon you back to me, I hope I won't regret giving you a chance."
You nodded "Yes, Sir!"
"Now disappear." He pointed with his head towards the door
You stood up from the ground and dusted your clothes before making your way to your assigned room.
-
~~~~~
Your heart pounded in your chest as you sniffled your fear away.
This was what you wanted after all.
This was what you needed.
You needed revenge and this was the only way you could achieve your goal.
Machines hummed and buzzed around you but you tried to not mind their noise as you were keeping your calm demeanor as a façade to protect yourself.
"Alright, subject." A man dressed in a white coat looked at you "Are you ready for this?"
You nodded, determination shining in your tired eyes "As ready as I can be. If this will help me prove to my mother that I can be useful too, then hurry up and do it."
"She's ready." Another man's voice was heard from somewhere inside the room but you couldn't tell exactly who spoke as the restrainents that kept you glued to the cold metallic table stoped you from looking
The man with the white coat pressed a few buttons and in a fraction of a second, pain flooded through your body as waves of electricity swirled around you, sending shocks flooding through your body.
Time seemed to stay still as you screamed out in agony out of pure reflex, your body spasming with each shockwave you received.
In that moment, buried memories resurfaced inside your mind.
You remembered the happier times and a pang of sadness weighed heavy on your heart.
But just as the good memories came to the front of your mind, so did the bad ones, reminding you of the true reason why you came to HYDRA for help.
The Avengers hate HYDRA and HYDRA hates the Avengers.
You hoped that by joining and serving the rival organization, you could make Natasha realize how wrong she was for treating you like she did.
You hoped to make them feel betrayed and rejected.
Just as you felt.
Darkness enveloped you, and your weakened body stopped spasming, but one thing remained clear as daylight to you.
You will take your revenge on your family for their betrayal by serving their greatest enemy, HYDRA.
~~~~~
You stared at the cement ceiling of your cell.
Your thirst for revenge was just as present as it was four months ago when you joined HYDRA.
The agent was right.
You wanted to kill the Avengers and make them pay for all of your suffering.
But still, one thing made you hesitate.
You sighed.
A memory of a smiling Tanya came to your mind and you remembered that she was as innocent as you were in this whole ordeal.
She deserved to grow up surrounded by the love of her parents as she has never done anything else other than loving you like her older sister who you actually were.
Then you thought of Bucky and the last memory you shared with him.
That fateful night, he had bought you a journal, hoping that it would help you manage your feelings better if you wrote them on the paper.
Comparing him to Natasha now, you realize that he was more of a parent to you than Natasha ever was.
How are you supposed to kill him?
Your door burst open and a security agent, who is in charge of maintaining order, walked inside your room.
"The boss calls you to him." He announced in a bored voice
You nodded "Tell him I am coming."
-
You stepped in the silence of the private office, allowing your senses to highen, as your eyes darted aimlessly around the room.
"I have been waiting for you." The voice of the man who had been in charge of your training was heard "Welcome!"
"I would thank you, Sir." You put your hands behind your back "But here doesn't exist such thing as being welcomed anywhere."
The man laughed.
"I see you learned the lesson." He smiled pleased "I hope you bring good news to me."
You kept quiet for a few moments, searching for a way to put your decision into words in such a way that HYDRA wouldn't decapitate you in a matter of seconds.
"So?" The man asked again, impatient
"Sir..." You began, taking your time to form every word that came out of your mouth "I am forever grateful for the chance you offered me and the resources you put at my disposal to achieve my ambitions."
The man slightly smiled, knowing that he had won.
"The Avengers have done me so many wrongdoings that I lost count of them." You continued "And after the time I have been granted to carefully choose the course I want for the next events to take, I came with the answer."
The man in front of you leaned backward in his chair, his body visibly relaxed as he waited for your final decision.
"I will..." You took a deep breath, steeling yourself "Not kill the Avengers, Sir. I am sorry, but I can't. They're my family no matter what."
The HYDRA agent shot up from his chair as his eyes went wide with shock.
"What did you say?!" He shouted, completely taken by surprise by your decision
"I said that I will not kill the Avengers." You repeated "I meant it when I said that everything has gone too far, Sir. Yes, I did want to take revenge on them, specifically my mother, but killing them was never my intention. All I wanted was to make them feel betrayed and hurt by becoming a HYDRA agent. Nothing more, nothing less."
"You foolish, lab rat!" The man sneered and pointed his finger at you "We created you! If you're here today it is all thanks to us! Our scientists were the ones who were in charge of creating you out of almost nothing! Now you dare defy us? You have the audacity to bite the hand that fed you?"
You looked around the room, trying to avoid the man's furious gaze.
"Please understand, Sir." You tried to reason "My heart and conscience don't let me murder the persons that saved me from hell and I realized that I made a mistake to return to the hell from where I've been rescued all these years ago."
The man calmly hummed "Hmm, so that's what you call it? A mistake?"
You braced yourself for what could happen next as you watched the man wave his hand at the shadows behind his back.
"I would call it a blessing." He said "You returned where you belong. To your true family and if your feelings stop you from taking action against your kidnappers, then we will help you gather the courage you need."
You shook your head, understanding what the agent's words meant.
"No..." You breathed out fearfully
But it was already too late.
-
Tanya sat on the carpet placed in the middle of the living room, playing with her toys, as she tried to distract herself from all the yelling that was happening in her surroundings.
"I am tired of your ignorance!" Bucky shouted at his wife, after he came back from another failed search mission where he tried to find you
"I haven't done anything wrong!" Natasha yelled back, her brain blocked in a phase of denial
"You did!" Bucky shouted "You did! You drove our child away! How could you do something like this, Natasha?!"
Natasha froze in place as her shoulders fell down.
She couldn't believe what she just heard Bucky say.
She refused to believe it.
"Natasha?" The woman asked hurt "Since when I am 'Natasha' for you?"
"Ever since Y/N went missing because of your recklessness and pride." Bucky shouted "My Natalia would have never done that to her own child. So, therefore, you are not my Natalia. You are not that girl I dreamed of having a family with."
"James, please." Natasha whispered, tears forming in her eyes "I am still the same Natalia you met so long ago."
Natasha reached to grab Bucky's hand but he pulled it away.
"Don't touch me." He said in a raised tone
Natasha sighed disappointed and nodded, pulling her hands back.
"You're mad." Natasha said "I get it."
"Mad is far from how I feel right now, Natasha." Bucky lowered his tone "I feel desperate because I am unable to find the child that has been entrusted in my protection and who knows where she is right now and what happened to her. She's just a child. You are the only one who failed to see this."
"James, just give me the chance to explain myself." Natasha pleaded "I beg you."
Bucky shook his head.
"I don't know what you have done to my Natalia but you are not the girl that made me remember how it feels to be human again." The man took a few steps backward before rushing out of the room, leaving his wife behind
Natasha fell on the couch, letting out a deep sigh, as she placed her head in her hands.
Tanya, that have been silently observing the argument between her parents, stood up, her toys forgotten on the soft carpet as she walked towards her mother.
"Mama?" Tanya cautiously called her mother
"What is it, baby?" Natasha sniffed, raising her head to look at her daughter
"Why hasn't Y/N come back yet?" Tanya innocently asked, still struggling to grasp the complexity of the situation "Is she still mad at us?"
Natasha thought about how to explain to a 5-year-old what was happening.
"I think she still is, Tatiana." Natasha lifted Tanya and sat her on her lap
"And Papa is sad because he couldn't find my sister, isn't he?" The little girl questioned sadly
Natasha guiltly nodded "Yes, sweetheart. That's why Mama and Papa are fighting."
Little Tanya looked down at her lap, her tiny eyebrows furrowing, as her mind tried to put her feelings into words.
Natasha gave Tanya time to speak at her own pace, not rushing her.
After a few minutes, Tanya looked up again at Natasha with eyes filled with tears.
"But Mama..." Tanya's high-pitched voice trembled "Why did you make Y/N go away? She is my sister. You never get mad at me cause I am your baby but Y/N is your baby too and you made her feel very sad. You always made her cry and I miss playing with her. She's the best big sister in the whole world."
A stray tear fell down Natasha's left cheek.
"Can you bring Y/N back home, Mama?" Tanya sniffed "Can you not get mad at her always? If Tanya is Mama's baby, then Y/N is Mama's baby too."
"I'm not sure, baby girl." Natasha let out a shaky breath, realizing her mistake "Mama messed up big time when she scolded Y/N/N."
"I know that Mama did bad." Tanya said "But Y/N is ours and she's my sister. She needs to live here with us."
"And she will, baby." Natasha said determined "I promise she will."
Tanya snuggled closer to Natasha's chest and sighed contently.
"I love you, Tanya." Natasha quietly declared
Tanya kissed Natasha's cheek before she quickly stood up and ran upstairs to her room.
Natasha stared at the open door that Tanya just walked out through, deeply lost in thoughts.
Her talk with Tanya had helped Natasha realize one important thing.
That Y/N was her baby no matter what and that she had made the biggest mistake in her life by doing what she did to Y/N.
And yet one question remains.
Where is Y/N?

"Soldat!" A voice said "Your orders are to kill the Avengers, our greatest enemies, and I want the heads of the traitors known as Natasha Romanoff and Bucky Barnes."
The man looked at the masked soldier he had created with pride, knowing that now, they would be invincible.
"Do you understand the command?" He asked sternly
"I am ready to comply." An emotionless voice replied
You stood tall, the black suit and gray vest you were wearing appeared even darker in the shadows of the private office as the mask that covered more than half of your face, perfectly concealed your identity.
The man smirked and pointed with his head towards the door.
You turned around and started walking.
Your mission?
To kill the Avengers.

All assassins need a cat

a/n: I really want a cat, so I figured I'd write something short about it :)

 |——————————— ⴵ ———————————|
Living in the Avengers tower had been nothing short of amazing. The people were kind, the food was even better. After living in the Red Room for so long you were overwhelmed with the freedom you were given, and the choices you could make.
You had been in the tower for two months now, and although you liked almost everyone that lived in the tower, you preferred Natasha and Bucky the most.
They were kind, and because of your shared life experience it was easy to get along with them. They understood you, and there was no pressure in talking to them. You knew that whatever you told them, they would understand. It was comforting.
However, it didn't take very long before you realised that both Natasha and Bucky owned a cat.
It happened during a movie night. Natasha and Bucky had sworn to catch you up on all the great movies you missed. While watching the entirety of the Indiana Jones movies, a small, black cat jumped up on the bed, snuggling against Natasha.
After you asked who the cat was, Natasha explained that she got her after living in the tower for a while. She said it helped her feel better about herself, and her past.
‘Liho,’ as Natasha told you she was called, took a liking to you rather quickly. It didn't take many movie nights before Liho wasn’t only snuggling on Natasha's lap, but also climbing on yours.
During breakfast with Natasha and Bucky later that week, you spotted a white cat joining you in the kitchen. It walked up to Bucky and started yelling at him for food. Bucky picked the cat up, snuggling with it for a few seconds before grabbing some food, feeding it.
“That's Alpine,” Bucky had explained, telling you how he had gotten a cat not long after Natasha did.
Bucky and Natasha didn't share a floor when they had gotten their cats, but when they moved in together it didn't take long before the cats became friendly with each other. Natasha had told you how you could often find them snuggled up together.
After meeting both cats, you could often be found cuddling with them.
When you were sitting in your room, you would leave your door open, allowing the cats to enter whenever they pleased. Often, they would wander into your room, either jumping on your bed or jumping on your lap while you entertained yourself.
They started following you around the house soon after, always begging for cuddles and kisses. You cheerfully obliged, and it didn't go unmissed by either Bucky or Natasha.
Natasha had brought up the idea one night, after you had fallen asleep in their room.
She shared her thoughts with Bucky, discussing how it might be good for you to get a cat of your own. You loved the cats that were already living in the house, and both Natasha and Bucky thought it would be great for you to raise a cat of your own.
At breakfast a week later Natasha brought it up again.
“How would you feel about getting another cat…?” Natasha asked carefully, bringing up the question casually so as to not make you suspicious.
“You want another cat?” You asked cheerfully, petting Liho behind her ears as she settled on your lap.
Natasha nodded. “It might be fun for Liho and Alpine to get another play buddy.”
Bucky nodded along, settling in the seat next to you.
“Besides, we were thinking, you might like one of your own…” Bucky explained carefully, but your gasp of excitement washed all their worries away.
“I could get a cat?!” You asked excitedly, watching as Natasha chuckled before nodding.
“If that’s something that you want,” she explained, sitting into the seat across from you. “I still have the contact information from the same people I bought Liho from. They have another nest and are looking for homes for the kittens,” Natasha told you, biting into her toast.
“We could go have a look if you want,” she finished.
Another gasp of excitement left your lips. “I could get a kitten? We can go look at kittens?!” you exclaimed happily.
Natasha and Bucky both nodded, chuckling a bit.
“We can visit today,” Bucky explained.
-------------------------------------------------------------
After finishing your breakfast quickly, you had gotten into the car, heading over to the address that had the kittens. On the way, Natasha told you that the kittens were already old enough to leave the nest, so if there were a kitten that you had a connection with, you would be able to take it home the same day.
You happily stared out the window, humming along to the song on the radio as your excitement grew.
Once inside the house, you were practically jumping from excitement, sighing a little when Natasha, Bucky, you, and the other two people sat down at the table to greet each other and catch up.
Natasha noticed your impatience, grabbing your hand under the table and rubbing soothing circles on it, assuring you that you would get to meet the kittens soon.
After a tedious half hour, the woman finally got up, leading you towards a different room where all the kittens were.
Once you were finally inside, you gasped in excitement when all the kittens ran towards your legs, playing with your shoelaces.
You went to sit on the ground, smiling as all the kittens started exploring around you, inspecting you. Natasha moved to sit next to you, lifting a kitten into her lap and cuddling with it.
After playing with the kittens for a little while, you found out that the mother cat was actually one of Liho's siblings, so you would be adopting a cat of Liho’s family.
You were in the kitten room for about two hours, and you had grown especially close to one little kitten. It was the smallest one, and she was sleepy and shy when you first came in. After about half an hour, she did come over to you, sniffing you for a bit before deciding that you were the perfect place to take a nap. She climbed on your leg and started sleeping.
“Can we have this one?” you asked Natasha as you carefully petted the young cat's body, allowing her to rest.
“She does really like you,” the woman said, cuddling with the mother cat.
Bucky stood in the corner, observing you and his girlfriend as you had a bonding moment. He loved Natasha more than anything, and you were slowly becoming just as important to him. He loved both of you, and he wanted to give you this moment together. He knew how much it meant to Natasha to be a mother, and he was certain it meant a lot to you as well.
Natasha nodded excitedly, giving the kitten on your lap a little snuggle.
“I wish we were able to take them all. They are all so cute,” Natasha said as she lifted another kitten from the ground, holding it close to her and giving it some kisses.
The woman stood up, walking over to Bucky.
“If you could come with me, I will get you all the medical papers and get everything sorted out.”
Bucky nodded and followed the woman out of the room, leaving you and Natasha to snuggle with the kittens a little longer.
-------------------------------------------------------------
After getting everything sorted you had taken the sleeping kitten into your lap, snuggling with it while you sat on the backseat.
You were more than happy with your new best friend, and both Natasha and Bucky were more than happy because of the fact you were so happy. You cuddled with the cat a little more before you as well fell asleep.
When you woke up again you were back in the Avengers tower, sleeping on Natasha’s and Bucky's bed while Natasha read a book.
“Good afternoon my little Malyshka,” she said when she noticed you were awake. She closed her book, setting it aside and brushing some of your hair out of your face. You groaned and blinked a few times before sitting up, noticing the weight that pressed on your legs. Your little kitten was still fast asleep.
You smiled and reached down to pet her, enjoying the purring she made as she snuggled closer into your hand.
“Thank you, Natasha,” you said as you looked at her, smiling when she gave you a kiss on your forehead.
“Anything for you, my little Malyshka,” Natasha said as she cupped your cheeks, giving you another kiss on your nose.
“Leave some snuggles for me,” you heard Bucky say from the door opening, watching as he walked inside and crawled into the bed, on the other side of you.
You smiled and leaned forward, giving him a little kiss on your cheek.
Bucky smiled as well. “Thank you little miss,” he said jokingly as he leaned forwards as well, giving you a little kiss on your forehead.
Your kitten started making some noises, waking up and taking in its surroundings. Once her eyes landed on you, she crawled higher up your legs, settling onto your chest as you leaned against Natasha. It didn't take long before the kitten fell asleep again, enjoying your gentle pets and kisses.
“Another movie?” Natasha questioned as she observed your state, realising she would not be getting out of the bed for a while.
You nodded happily, snuggling close into her side as she started the movie, stroking your hair.
“Thank you,” you sighed contently before falling asleep as well, safe in the arms of your found family.

Masterlist
James Barnes wanted nothing more than to forget his past but, unfortunately, there were two constant reminders of it.
During his time as a HYDRA soldier, he had a thing with one of the Widows at the Red Room and that widow was Natalia Alianovna Romanova.
To them, they made plans to escape and have a life together but reality wasn't like that. One thing led to another then Natalia at 16 years old, days before she was meant to go through the Red Room's graduation ceremony ended up pregnant and James never came back for her.
Nine months later Natalia gave birth to a healthy baby girl and named her Y/N. When Natalia saw her baby for the first time she knew that she had to do whatever it took to protect her and that's what she did.
It took Natalia a few years to plan and organise the perfect escape plan and thankfully it worked. Getting out of the Red Room was her main goal she didn't exactly think about what was next.
Being out in the harsh Russian winter with a toddler wasn't ideal but it was the better option.
Thankfully the young mother and her child only had to deal with the cold weather for a few days since a SHEILD agent who was sent to kill the widow made a different call and let her live most likely because he saw the young girl and he didn't want to take her mother away from her. He had a child the same age and would hate it if he lost his mother or father.
---⧗---
Months passed and Natalia got a job working with SHEILD, thanks to the man who saved her and her child otherwise known as Clint Barton, as one of their agents. She even changed her identity as a way of taking control of her life for the first time ever. She now goes by Natasha Romanoff.
When Natasha went away on missions you stayed with Clint's wife Laura and their son Cooper then after the Avengers Initiative was formed and the Stark Tower was changed to the Avengers Tower you stayed there if there was someone available to babysit you.
As the years went by Natasha was glad that she got to watch you grow in a safe place and nothing bad would happen to you she wanted nothing to change but it did something or someone changed everything.
---⧗---
Natasha had just gotten back from a long mission and you and her were sitting on the couch giggling about what you got up to when she was away when suddenly Steve and a strange man walked in.
When Natasha saw who was with Steve she stood up quickly and stared at the man in disbelief. You had never seen this man in your life but going by your mom's reaction she did.
"James?" Natasha asked confused about how the man who she thought was dead if now alive and a few feet in front of her.
When Bucky looked at Natasha in that quick second all the memories came back to him. He wanted to say so much to her but most importantly apologise for leaving her but he didn't know what to say
"Hello, Natalia." was all that he managed to say.
Natasha couldn't believe that after all those years that's all he could say to her but before she could respond she felt a touch on her arm.
"Mama?" You said looking up at your mom and then over at the man.
Bucky managed to get a good look at you and there was something familiar about you that he couldn't quite work out.
"Who's this?" Bucky asked taking a step closer to you and Natasha.
"My daughter." She replied giving you a smile and stroking your hair.
"What," Bucky mumbled to himself suddenly realising why you looked so familiar.
There was a picture of Natasha when she was younger in her file back in the Red Room that Bucky saw and the young girl standing a few feet away from him is the spitting image except that back then Natasha had short blue hair whereas you had long brown hair with a tint of orange.
Natasha placed her hands on your arms. "I need you to stay in your room for a little while okay." She moved you around slightly so you had your back towards Steve and the man then she put her hand on your back to lead you out of the room.
As you and Natasha were walking away Bucky quickly did the maths in his head. He knew that by the age of 16, the widows in the Red Room got sterilised so they couldn't have kids and it would have been 12 years since he last saw Natasha meaning that for the child to be Natasha's biological child you would have to be 12 years old.
"Wait how old are you?" Bucky called out.
"Don't answer him," Natasha said to you trying to hurry you out of the room.
"How old are you kid?" Bucky shouted.
You turned around to Bucky and shouted back "12. Now what is going on?"
"She's 12?" Bucky asked looking over at Natasha for clarification.
Natasha didn't respond but she did have a look on her face that she knew something everyone else didn't.
"Is this my daughter?" Bucky asked.
"No, my dad was a soldier he abandoned us before I was born then he died." You turned around to face your mom "That's what you told me."
"Is this my daughter?" Bucky asked again.
Natasha tucked your hair behind your ears and gently cupped your face. "Yes." She said quietly.
You turned your head to see what Bucky's reaction would be and it definitely wasn't what you were expecting he looked disappointed like he hoped the answer to his question would have been no he's not the father.
"I'm sorry I… I can't. I… just can't." He said then practically ran out of the room then Steve followed after him.
You looked up at your mom but she didn't say anything she just put her arms around you and hugged you tightly.
---⧗---
Natasha tried to get Bucky to spend time with you but every time he refused. It got to the point where whenever you walked into a room and Bucky was there he would leave to avoid having to talk to you. You then eventually stopped trying and convinced yourself that it was something that you did that caused him to want nothing to do with you.
Later that night Natasha told you that she had to go on a mission and like always you tried to stop her from going but deep down you knew that's not how it worked and she needed to go.
Nearly two weeks went by and you were getting worried. It wasn't a new thing for Natasha to be gone for weeks even months at a time but this time it was different she hadn't called to say that she was okay not even once.
It was nearly the end of week three and still nothing. The whole time you were waiting in the hangar for the QuinJet to land or your phone to ring but none of them were happening.
Just as you were about to give up and call it a night you heard the QuinJet land. You stood up and waited for your mom to walk through the doors but instead, at least four SHEILD agents were rushing into the room pushing a gurney. You couldn't make out who was lying on it till you got a glimpse of the red hair.
You couldn't be entirely sure that it was your mom that was until you reached the med bay and everyone was standing for you and that's how you knew for sure that it was your mom.
The agents pushed the gurney through a set of doors and as you went to follow them a pair of arms wrapped around you preventing you from following. No amount of squirming did any good the person who was holding you was much too strong for you to get out of their grip.
You waited and waited and paced back in forward waiting to hear any news about your mom. The wait time was so long that you ended up falling asleep on the chairs.
You got woken up by the sound of someone softly saying your name and gently shaking you.
When you opened your eyes Clint was kneeling in front of you.
"Your mom's out of surgery," Clint said.
You stood up and you followed him into the recovery room he stopped you at the door and put his hands on your shoulders.
"Listen, Y/N, before you go in there I want you to know that your mom has a tube in her throat. It might look a bit scary but it's just there to help her breathe. Okay?"
You nodded your head and Clint opened the door for you. When you walked inside the room Natasha was lying on the bed unconscious and like Clint said there was the tube in her mouth but also there were a lot of other wires attached to her. Some on her chest, some on her arm and even on her finger.
You walked over closer to her and you went to touch her but you instantly pulled your hand away.
"What happened to her?" You asked. The tears forming in your eyes.
"Let me explain." Her doctor said walking over. "During the mission, your mom got shot and due to the blood loss, she's now in a coma. Obviously, there's a lot more to it but I won't go into details."
"When will she wake up?" You asked.
"Well, we don't know for now we just have to wait for her to wake up on her own."
You placed your hand on your mom's arm on a spot that wasn't covered in wires and you started to shake her arm.
"Mama please wake up. Please mama wake up right now." You said as the tears streamed down your face. "Mama, wake up I need you. Please don't leave me alone." At this point, you were practically screaming.
The other Avengers heard you and ran inside to see what was happening.
Steve then wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you away from the bed just in case you accidentally hurt Natasha or caused a wire to fall out.
"Let me go." You screamed squirming about hoping that Steve would release you. When he let you go you ran out of the recovery room and straight to your mom's bedroom.
---⧗--- After that moment you completely shut down and spend most of your either in the recovery room by your mom's side or in her bedroom.
You even stopped speaking to nearly everyone and you had stopped doing basic things like taking showers, brushing your teeth and even eating. The only person who could really get through to you was Steve. He's been a father figure to you the whole time you've known him but not even he could make it all better.
No matter how hard everyone tried no one could get through to you. Nothing that they said or did cheered you up and they couldn't wake up the one person who would make you happy and become that happy carefree little girl that they all missed deeply.
There was only one other person who hadn't tried to cheer you up and that was Bucky. It took a lot of convincing but Steve managed to get him to go talk to you.
Bucky made his way to the May Bay and looked through the window into the recovery room where Natasha was when he saw that it was empty he walked inside the room.
He sat down on the chair beside her bed and gently took her hand. "I'm so sorry Natalia. I never should have left you in that place. If I knew that you were pregnant I would have come back for you and helped to raise the baby but honestly, I.." He got cut off by the door opening and you walking into the room.
"Sorry." You mumbled looking down at the ground.
Bucky sighed slightly and stood up "Look, I know that you probably don't want to hear this but just because your mom is in a coma doesn't mean that you should shut down completely she would want you to carry on with life."
You didn't say anything you just kept looking down at the ground.
Bucky walked over to you and put his hand on your shoulder. "Don't forget no matter what your mom will always love you and you need to continue to make her proud every day.
You didn't expect those words to be your breaking point but before you knew tears started falling down your face. "I miss my mom I just want her to come back."
When Bucky saw you crying even though it probably would have made both you and him uncomfortable he wrapped his arms around you and held you tightly. You didn't know that a hug from your father was one of the things that you were craving badly but as soon as he hugged you it caused you to cry harder.
After a few minutes of nonstop crying you finally settled down but Bucky kept hugging you. He knew that you needed this more than anything. Then suddenly you heard a voice.
"Finally." The voice said.
You looked over and saw that your mom had her eyes open and she was looking over at you and Bucky and she was smiling.
"Mama!" you gasped rushing over to her and hugging her very gently.
"I guess someone has missed me." she chuckled wrapping her arm around you.
"So much."
Bucky started to feel like he'd overstayed his welcome and turned around making his way to the door and he sneaked out of the room without anyone noticing.
---⧗---
It only took a couple of days then Natasha was up and back on her feet again.
She wanted to jump straight back into work and training but everyone had to keep reminding her that she was still recovering and that she had to take it easy.
She went round thanking everyone for taking care of her daughter but there was still one person that she had to speak to.
Bucky was in the kitchen making coffee and thankfully that was the first place that Natasha tried.
"I'm making coffee do you want one?" Bucky asked.
"Yeah, thanks," Natasha responded.
He got a cup poured the coffee and handed it to her. He gave her a slight smile picked up his coffee and walked off.
"James wait," she said.
He stopped and turned around to look at her.
"I heard what you said to me when I was in the coma and I forgive you."
Bucky's eyes widened in surprise as he processed Natasha's words. He set his coffee down on the counter and walked back towards her, his expression a mix of hope and relief.
"Natalia, I… I didn't expect you to forgive me so easily," Bucky admitted.
"You wouldn't have left if there wasn't a reasonable explanation I know that now and especially if you had known about the baby."
Bucky's voice trembled as he spoke, his eyes filled with pain. "they threatened to kill you if I didn't leave. I didn't have any other choice. I couldn't bear the thought of losing you."
Natasha reached out and took his hand in hers. "You're never going to lose me."
Suddenly Bucky did something that Natasha wasn't expecting.
He moved in closer to her, placed his hand on her cheek and kissed her.
Natasha was surprised at first but she didn't move or push him away instead she kissed him back.
Bucky then pulled away when he realised what he had just done. "I'm so sorry," he said looking embarrassed he was certain that Natasha didn't have those feelings for him anymore.
Natasha just chuckled and shook her head. "Don't be sorry." She put her hand on the back of his head and pushed him in close to her then kissed him again.
You then walked into the kitchen and saw them both kissing and they quickly pulled away from each other when they heard footsteps approaching
"That's so gross people eat in here you both know?" you said looking disgusted at them.
Natasha chuckled at your comment and walked over to you. "I'm sorry baby." then she hugged you. "It won't happen again."
"So are you two together now?" You asked looking up at your mother and then over at your father.
Natasha and Bucky exchanged a glance before Natasha replied, "Well we don't know yet sweetheart but you'll be the first to know. Okay?"
You nodded your head at your mom's response and didn't bring it up again till they came to you about it.
After weeks of waiting to hear a response from their parents, they finally came to you and told you that they had made the decision that they were going to get back together.
You couldn't believe it when they told you. You wanted to know your father so badly and now he was here in your life and even better back with your mom.
Now that Bucky was in life you finally got the chance to spend time with him and tell him everything about yourself something that you wanted from the moment that you found out he was your father.

peter man?
Tumblr media
chapter one: a not so fun necklace.
Peter Parker x Winterwidow/Buckynat's daughter! reader.
Dreams, by the Cranberries.
"Oh, my life is changing everyday... In every possible way."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Her eyes darted between her father and her mother. Another staring contest, fun.
Her mothers green eyes staring into her father's icy blue ones.
Y/n just stood up and carefully walked out of the compound kitchen and into her room and saw Peter already there and she sighed, kicked her slippers off and jumped onto him, since he was laying on his bed and snuggled into his side.
"Hi Peter man." She said teasingly and earned an audible groan from him.
"Why are you calling me that..." he mumbled and wrapped his arms around her body and let her snuggle into him.
He had learned that snuggling was her way of coping with her past in the Red Room, a way to learn that physical contact can be okay.
"Because it's funny, Spider Parker." She giggles and looked up at him with her soft Y/e/c eyes and looked into his warm and comforting brown eyes.
But he can't be mad, he never wanted to not be snuggling her.
But that doesn't mean he can't get annoyed by her.
He groans loudly and rolled over on top of her, earning a loud 'Oomf' from her.
He laid on top of her, putting his whole body weight on her.
"Oh you asshole." She groans and he chuckles as he laid on her.
"C'mon, you enjoy it, don't lie." He said cheekily, and he put his hands on her stomach. His hand going her her shirt a bit, he felt her scars...but they made her fucking beautiful to him.
She rolled her eyes and held him tightly.
"Shut up..." She mumbled into his hair as he had his face in the crook of her neck. He giggles and traced her scares lightly, his rough and calloused hand on the scar tissue felt delicate.
He felt to coolness of her right bionic hand on the nape of his neck, people would beget all weird by it, but like how Natasha was with Bucky, he saw through the arm and just the person, the person whom they both truly love.
Tumblr media
It was dinner time, all of the Avengers were sitting down eating.
And dinner always consisted of Bucky and Sam Arguing, Tony wiggling his eyebrows at Peter, Natasha glaring at Tony, Wanda reading the teens minds and giggling, Loki not caring for the young Peter but always giving encouraging smiles to Y/n, Thor not knowing whats going on, Bruce not caring really, Steve trying to calm down Bucky and Sam, Clint not caring and trying to eat, Somehow Vision even knows the love between Y/n and Peter.
In a nutshell it was normal until Pietro started something quiet interesting...
"Peter, Y/n?" He asked, his accent thick as he stood up. Everyone raised their eyebrows s he grabbed a fistful of pasta and threw it at Y/n.
"I declare, a food fight."
Everyone's eyes widen and Thor immediately threw garlic bread at the speedsters face. Tony lets out a cackle and threw a meatball at Steve's face.
Then a war had begun. Peter and Y/n had hid under the table with cookies in hand as the adults were throwing pasta all over each other.
Y/n giggles and Peter sighed and looked at her, her delicate features. And she turned and they made eye contact
And that was when it felt as if everything slowed down. Their eyes looking into one another, and they just felt so connected. And slowly, inch, by inch they leaned in... and they got so close, that only their noses touched.
He could smell her perfume, the addicting coffee, lavender and vanilla.
She was just addicting to him.
His left hand went to her cheek and the back of her neck, inching closer and closer...
Then Thor lifted the table up, and the two pulled away quickly and sh threw a cookie at him and jumped up, then helped Peter up, their faces bright red. Now, EVERYONE knew.
But, being the two hopeless idiots they didn't.
"Man of spiders! Lady of Metal Arms! I have found you!" Thor boomed happily and gave a knowing grin and wiggled his eyebrows in very, very obvious way.
Tumblr media
Y/n was currently on her bed, with her mother, Wanda and Pepper stopped by to see what she missed since she missed dinner.
"You two almost kissed?!" Pepper yelled and Wanda shushed her and Natasha sighed.
"F.R.I.D.A.Y, can you sound proof the room?" Natasha said to the AI and the room became sound proof.
Natasha takes a deep breath then she started.
"Y/n Rebecca Barnes, you have to tell him you like him!" She yelled and stood up and started pacing while she spoke to her daughter.
"If you don't tell him he will never know!" Pepper nodded and added to Natasha.
"It is so clear he is in love with you!" Wanda nodded and also added.
"You know, I have never felt so much love for a person then he does for you..."
Y/n sighed and rubbed her temples and laid back on her bed, and groans, the metal of her hand helping her nerves.
But little did she know, that in Peters room. There was all of the boys trying to comfort a very, very anxious spider.
"Kid, if she didn't like you should would have pulled away or not lean in at all." Steve sighed and Bucky just looked uncomfortable.
Tony puts his hand on his shoulder and said.
"You should have made out with her quicker-"
"Stark! Do you forget that she is my daughter?" Bucky snapped and Tony chuckled and whispered to Peter.
"Don't forget about Papa-Bear." And Steve sighed as he had to restrain his childhood best friend.
"B-Buck! Don't you dare make me get Natasha." Steve said firmly and Bucky stopped and whispers.
"You wouldn't dare to get Natalia." He seethed out and Steve sighed and yelled.
"Natasha! Bucky is trying to kill another Stark."
Tony grimaced and everyone else had to stifle down a laugh. And Bucky just rolled his eyes as Natasha walked in and started speaking in rapid Russian with Bucky.
"Seriously, James? What did he do this time?" Natasha asked in Russian.
"He was talking about how he should have made out with our daughter earlier!" He responded.
All she did was let out a small chuckle and said.
"He has a point, James."
"Natalia, no."
"Natalia yes."
He scoffed and rolled his eyes as she dragged him out of the room and eventually all of the others walked out as well. After a few minutes, Y/n sneaked into his room, like usual, in her pajamas and snuggled into his side.
Something they do nightly, his arms around her waist and he face in his chest as she listens to his heart beat.
"Peter..?" She mumbled softly into his chest and he looked down at her and whispered.
"Yeah, princess?" She looked up and sighed as she nuzzled into him more.
"I'm scared..." she mumbled and he sighed and held her tightly.
"The nightmares?"
She nodded and he thought for a moment and he got close to her ear and whispered.
"You wanna stay with me?" She looked up and nodded, solace was what she needed.
He smiles and moved her so she could get under the sheets and blankets, he practically engulfed her with blankets and himself.
She giggles and nuzzled into his chest and mumbled.
"Good night, Peter man."
He didn't roll his eyes but he kissed her forehead and whispered.
"Good night, Stargirl." She blushed a deep magenta when he said her hero name, and when he kissed her forehead.
Lord he knew how to make her melt like a candle.
And just like that, she fell asleep.
In the arms with the one, and only guy she wants.
But the nightmares of her getting choked by The Winter Soldier and his metal arm will always come.
How his hand was a not so fun necklace.

Runaway baby
Winterwidow x daughter!reader
Summary: The Avengers take a trip to an indoor playground with a baby that loves to climb and hide.
———
It was a sunny weekend, and the Avengers decided to take a break from their heroic duties and enjoy a day out with their families. Bucky and Natasha brought their adorable baby daughter, Y/N, along for the fun. The indoor playground was bustling with activity as the Avengers' children ran around, laughing and playing.
While the kids explored the colorful play structures, the adults found a spot to relax and enjoy some lunch while having the children in eye view. Bucky and Natasha sat at a table, keeping a close eye on you, while you crawled away as fast as your tiny hands and knees could carry you.
Natasha sighed, reaching out to pick you up and bring you back to the table. "Come on, sweetheart. You can't climb up there. It's not safe."
Bucky chuckled, watching your determined attempts to climb on the high equipment. "She's got your adventurous spirit, Nat."
As Natasha held you close, you were wriggling and squirming to get back down to set off on your little mission. Tony who couldn't resist making a funny remark. "You guys should specialise in baby chasing, seems you have quite the experience."
Bucky rolled his eyes playfully. "Yeah, thanks for that, Tony."
Natasha made the terrible mistake of putting you down to go quickly grab a high chair for you. Just as your little knees hit the floor, you were off, scurrying down over to the play equipment to hide away from your mama who in your mind was rudely trying to confine you like a prisoner.
Just as Nat set down the high chair, she was already heading over to the playground, now realising what she had done.
“Y/N/N my love, where did you go this time, come back to your mama”
Spotting you hiding under a slide, she quickly makes her way over to you and scoops you up. Holding you close to her chest, she heads back over to the table with an amused expression on her face. You who, despite being very irritated with your mamas choice in actions, ended up settling into Natasha arms.
Natasha then placed you in the high chair, and strapped you in securely to assure you don’t break your way out. But once again you continued to wriggle and attempt an escape.
Chuckling, Natasha leaned closer to you and began to talk to you. "Now, Y/N, you need to stay in your seat. We don't want you getting hurt, do we?"
With your tiny hands resting on the high chair tray, narrowing your emerald green eyes at Natasha, pulling off a classic Romanoff-glare. Natasha couldn't help but be amused. "Don't give me that look, little miss. You're just like your mama."
The other Avengers couldn't help but comment on the striking resemblance between you and Natasha. Thor smiled warmly and said, "She truly is a miniature Black Widow."
The day at the indoor playground was filled with joy, laughter, and the delightful chaos that comes with raising superhero children. And amidst it all, Bucky and Natasha cherished their little daughter, the spitting image of her mother, whose fearless spirit only added to the charm of their extraordinary family.

Summary: Natasha and Bucky’s daughter seeks comfort in her Aunt Wanda as her parents go missing on a mission
Warnings: mentions of childbirth, bullying, I think that’s it?
Pairings: WinterWidow (aka my all time favourite ship)
wc: 3.1k
note: another one of my favourites, and there is a part 2! Winterwidow is my favourite ship and I definitely want to write more about them
-⧗-
There was a small knock on Wanda's bedroom door. Her head shot up from the book she was reading and she made her way over to the door. As she opened it she saw 16 year Y/n looking at the floor, clutching a very worn out teddy bear.
"Hey Y/n? You ok?" Wanda asked, opened the door fully.
"Can I come in?" the teenager whispered, still not wanting to look up.
"Of course honey. Is everything ok?" Y/n didn't say anything, choosing to climb onto Wanda's bed and dive under the covers. Wanda tilted her head at her niece's odd behaviour. "Y/n/n?"
A small hum in response came from under the duvet so Wanda resumed her place on the bed. "What's going on honey?"
There was another muffled reply which Wanda couldn't make out, so she gently pulled the covers from Y/n's face. "What was that?"
"I miss Mama and Papa" she whimpered before burying her head back into the pillow. Wanda's heart sank. There had been no word from Natasha or Bucky for months now and no one wanted to admit the worst. They'd stopped all contact which left Y/n panicking more and more everyday.
"I know baby, I know" she said, rubbing the young girl's back. "they're going to be ok-"
"How do you know that!" Y/n cried, turning around in the bed to face Wanda. "No one has heard anything. Don't lie to me. Please don't lie to me," she sobbed and tears were now streaming down her face.
"Baby I'm sorry."
The room was silent for a moment, the only sound being Y/n's sniffles.
"Can you tell me about them?"
"Wanda!" Bucky pounded on the door. "Wanda!"
"Woah woah hang on. I'm coming" The 18 year old ran to her door and was met by a very frantic and panic stricken Bucky. "What's happened?"
"It's Nat. She was shot and- she- she's with Bruce but she was shot in the stomach and I don't know if- if the baby is-"
"Hang on. Baby? What baby?"
Bucky stayed silent for a moment. "Godammit. Nat's pregnant. We didn't want to tell anyone this early on, but now I don't know what to do. What if she doesn't make it? What if the baby doesn't make it?"
Wanda grabbed Bucky by his arm and pulled him into her room, shutting the door behind him. "First of all, you need to calm down. Nat is going to be fine. She's Natasha Romanoff for god's sake. She's the strongest woman we know." Her words clearly had an effect on Bucky, who breathed out a deep breath. "And I didn't think she could get pregnant?"
Bucky shook his head as he stared at the floor. "Neither did we. That's why we weren't too careful. But somehow she is, and now..."
"Hey! Stop it!" Wanda's head tilted and Bucky gulped. He was being intimidated by an 18 year old. "Don't you dare think like that."
"Sorry" he mumbled.
"Do you know how far along she is?"
"About 4 months. She's only just showing, so we've managed to hide it. But now everyone is going to know, and Nat's going to be in danger."
"Then we protect her. Buck, look at me. We live in a building with 2 super soldiers, a guy with a powerful suit, a raging monster, an assassin, 2 enhanced people, plus a bunch of others. I think we've pretty much got it covered."
"I can't loose them Wanda. They're my girls. I- I need to go and see her. Thank you."
Wanda didn't even get a chance to respond before he raced out of the room, leaving her grinning at the news. "A girl?" She whispered to herself. "I'm gonna be an auntie!"
*5 months later*
"Fuck!" Nat screamed, her hand gripping Bucky's metal one, almost crushing the vibranium. She'd been in labour for 10 hours already, and had shouted at everyone who dared get in her way. "Get this demon out of me!”
"Nat, doll, that's our daughter you're talking about. She's not a demon-"
"You aren’t pushing a fucking watermelon out of your vagina! This is your fault!”
Bucky went to speak, but was cut off by another scream from Nat. Once the contraction had subsided, she was out of breath. "Get Wanda" she breathed. Bucky didn't dare question her. He asked JARVIS to bring Wanda down, and the Sokovian arrived in record time.
"Wanda! Can you use your magic to get this little fucker out of me!" A contraction hit her mid sentence.
Wanda stood there in shock. "Um... I'm- I'm not sure that's how it works Nat."
"I don’t care! Get it out of me!"
Bruce carefully made his way to Nat's bedside, a nervous expression on his face. "Ok, you can start pushing on the next contraction."
A scream rattled through the room as the next contraction hit Nat. She had grabbed Wanda's hand too, which unfortunately was not made of vibranium.
It took another 20 minutes before Nat had finally given birth to healthy baby girl. She was tiny and Wanda had to bite her lip to stop her from squealing in delight. Bruce handed Nat her baby and she placed her on her chest, her eyes completely transfixed on her beautiful baby. Everyone in the room left to give the new parents some space.
"She's beautiful" Bucky husked, softly stroking his daughter's head.
"Hi baby girl." Nat said as her daughter opened her eyes. "Its me, it's mama." The baby blinked slowly and her tiny hand lifted to wrap her around Nat's finger. Bucky and Nat both awed at the sight.
"Can you go and get Wanda?" Nat asked Bucky, still looking at her daughter. He nodded and went outside. "Mama's got you baby. I'm gonna protect you." She pressed a kiss to her forehead and moved her hospital gown down to lay her daughter on her chest. Her baby let out a coo as she felt her mother's skin properly for the first time.
The door opened and Nat tore her eyes away for a moment to smile at Wanda as she entered the room.
"Oh Nat, she's beautiful. Hey sweetheart" Wanda cooed as Y/N's blue-green eyes looked up at her.
As Wanda was admiring the newest addition to there family, Nat looked up at Bucky, who gave her a smile and nodded.
"Wands, we need to ask you something." The teenager looked expectant. "Will you be Y/n's godmother?"
Tears sprang to her eyes as she frantically nodded. "Yes." She squeaked. "Hello Y/n. What a beautiful name for a beautiful girl."
"Come on Y/n. Say mama" Nat said as she bounced Y/n on her lap. Y/n had been babbling for months now, and everyone thinks she's going to say her first word.
"No, Y/n say dada"
Y/n started babbling and she blew bubbles out of her lips, drool dangerously close to dripping on her teddy bear.
"Mama" Nat said.
"Dada" Bucky said.
"A-a-a" Y/n babbled.
"Yeah! Mama!" Nat encouraged. "Come on baby. Say mama"
"Wa-wa-wana. Wana.: Y/n said, looking directly at Wanda.
"Yes! She said Wanda!" Wanda stood up and did a victory dance, pressing kisses all over her goddaughter's face.
"No! Y/n you were supposed to say Mama!" Nat said.
"Um, no, she was going to say dada!"
Everyone chimed in, talking over the top of each other about the word they thought Y/n was going to say. But the newly 1 year old was very overwhelmed at the noise, and she started crying, her little face bright red as her fists screwed up.
Bucky quickly scooped up his daughter and brought her to his chest, rocking her slowly to calm her cries. But she wouldn't calm down. Her cried only got louder. Nat told everyone to leave, apart from Wanda who was clearly her daughter's favourite. Bucky moved to the couch and sat down, still cradling Y/n to his chest. Her wails had turned into screams and Nat's heart broke slightly. Taking a seat beside Bucky, she carefully took her daughter from him and lifted up her shirt to lay her on her chest. Her cries subsided instantly and both parents breathed a sigh of relief.
That was Nat's advantage. Y/n loved being on Nat's skin. The trio's nightly routine consisted of Bucky and Nat laying in bed watching some random movie, whilst Y/n play on Nat's naked chest in just her diaper once she’d finished feeding.
The minute Y/n made contact with Nat's skin, her hands reached out. Nat and Bucky both laughed, knowing what her action meant.
“Do you mind if I-“ Nat gestured to her chest whilst looking at Wanda who just smiled softly, shaking her head.
“Don’t let me get in the way of little miss hungry. I can come back.”
“Don’t be silly Wanda,” Nat said as she adjusted herself to allow her baby girl to latch on whilst comfortably lying in her arms. "Oh she's mama's girl alright." She said with a smirk towards a very disgruntled Bucky.
Wanda watched the way her niece’s tiny hands clutched at Natasha’s skin as she drank yet her big green eyes stared directly at her auntie."I think you'll find she's a Wanda's girl."
"Watch it Maximoff. We can very easily strip you of that title." Bucky threatened, but he had a smile on his face. He loved how everyone loved Y/n.
"I'm not sure Y/n will be very happy about that."
"That's it Y/n, keep going." Wanda was encouraging her to stack her hoops in the correct order. The 2 year old shuffled around on her bottom as she clapped with delight, her teddy bear lying in her lap. Wanda watched her for a few more minutes before Clint called her name to ask her a question.
But Y/n hated the lack of attention. Being the only baby in the compound, she was used to everyone chatting to her and playing with her. So, when she found herself without anyone, she wasn't happy. She started whining, shuffling around to pull on Wanda's sleeves. But her auntie only offered her hand for Y/n to play with, which, for the 2 year old, was not enough. She whined louder, but Wanda only wiggled her fingers more.
Y/n held onto Wanda's hand and looked around. Her mama was sat on the couch next to Steve, and the 2 were chatting happily. Y/n whined again to try and get Nat's attention. She called out "Mama" but the room was loud so Nat didn't hear her.
Being a true Romanoff, Y/n was determined to get to Nat. She rolled onto her stomach and pushed herself to her feet. She wobbled slightly but stayed standing. The chatting had died down and Tony had started recording after seeing the little avenger on her feet. But Y/n didn't notice the new quiet room. She had her eyes set on Nat. Placing one foot in front of the other, she slowly waddled over to her mama, who had slid off the couch and was sat on the floor with her arms outstretched. Y/n took a few more wobbly steps, her destination almost touchable. With one more step she was scooped up into Nat's arms and they spun around together as the room erupted into cheers.
Y/n's bubbly laugh made everyone else laugh as they all celebrated. Her face was covered in kisses from both her mama and her papa and she kicked her legs happily as she settled on Nat's lap.
Nat bounced her daughter up and down on her knee, grinning at the giggles that Y/n let out. Her scarlett red hair had formed curls on the top of her tiny head and Nat ran her fingers through them. Her little miracle was the light of her life, and she had to pinch herself every now and then.
"You did such a good job baby!" Nat praised and Y/n pressed a messy kiss to her cheek. The toddler wiggled a bit on her mother's lap before she reached her arms out to Wanda.
"Wawa" she babbled, wanting attention from her aunt. Wanda internally squealed at the nickname that she had been gifted since the beginning and scooped Y/n into her arms.
"I love you I love you I love you!" She said as she also scattered kisses over her nieces face.
"Auntie Wanda?" 5 year old Y/n asked. "I don't wanna go to school anymore."
Wanda went to sit next to Y/n, who was sat on the bottom step of the stairs. "Why's that baby? You had so much fun last week."
Y/n stayed quiet for a moment before she spoke up. "I don't like it when people are mean to me. I wanna stay with you and mama and papa. You're nice to me."
Wanda's heart broke hearing her niece so sad. "Who's mean to you baby?"
"The boys in my class. They said I'm a carrot because of my hair. And someone put paint on my card that I made for Mama so she couldn't have it anymore." Y/N reached into her backpack and pulled out a piece of paper with a picture on it. There were 2 figures in the middle, which Wanda guessed were Y/n and Nat, and the sun had been painted in the background. But there was a thick black streak crossing the middle of the painting, it was obvious it wasn't supposed to be there.
"Oh baby." Wanda pulled her niece onto her knee. "I'm sure your mama will still love it. And you know what? I love it."
"Even though it's ruined?" Y/n asked, her big green eyes looking directly at Wanda.
"Yes. Because I can see it was beautiful. Do you know who ruined it?"
Y/n shrugged, which was understandable seeing as she had only been in school for 2 weeks. "The same boy who said I was a carrot. Bu- but I told him my hair is red, not orange, but he just laughed at me. And then everyone else did too. I don't wanna have red hair anymore."
"Y/n, look at me for a second. What do you think of mommy's hair?"
"Pretty" Y/n muttered.
"And mine?"
"Pretty"
"So why isn't yours pretty?"
"Because I don't look like mama. She's pretty but I don't look like that."
"Baby you're beautiful. And I don't know who's told you you don't look like your Mama, but you do. You're both beautiful, but you're prettier to me. But not with that frown. Can I see a smile?"
Y/n flashed her gappy toothy smile and Wanda laughed.
"Let's go show Mama your picture, yeah?"
Y/n didn't give her an answer, choosing the sprint away to find her mom, leaving Wanda on the stairs, grinning to herself.
"Wands? Can I come in?" Nat was stood outside her best friend's room, her hands clasping and unclasping together.
"Yeah sure it's unlocked."
The assassin carefully made her way into the room and took a seat on the edge of Wanda's bed. She was dressed in her black widow suit ready for a mission she was about to go on. But she had an important question.
"You leaving already?" Wanda commented but Nat didn't respond. "Nat?"
"Wands I need to ask you something. And I need you to answer truthfully."
"You're scaring me Nat. What's going on?"
Nat took a deep breath, her hands fiddling with her cuffs. "Will you promise to take care of Y/n when I'm gone?"
Wanda’s brow furrowed. "Of course. You know I always do. I love your kid." Y/n was her little angel, any moment they spent together was her favourite.
"No, I don't mean when I'm on a mission Wanda. I mean if I die. Will you promise to take care of her?" The redhead assassin was trying desperately to hold back her tears. Even though her daughter wasn’t so little anymore, she was almost 7, leaving on missions never got any easier.
"Nat I-"
"Please?!"
"You're not gonna die Nat, so you don't need to ask me. I'm not-"
Nat ran her hands over her face. "I can't go on this mission unless you tell me Wanda. I trust you. Bucky trusts you. We need to know Y/n is going to be safe if something happens to us. Please? I need to know my baby girl is gonna be ok without me."
Wanda moved to sit next to Nat and wrapped her in a hug. "I'll look after Y/n. But you cannot die. If you die, I will kill you. I cant lose you Nat. Please don't go."
Nat pressed her chin on the top of Wanda's head and kissed her softly. "I'll try my hardest."
The 2 stayed there for a few minutes before JARVIS alerted Nat it was time to go.
"I need to go and say bye to Y/n. Thank you Wanda. For everything."
And with that, she was gone.
*Now*
Wanda upheld her promise, always looking after Y/n when Nat was away. And luckily, both Nat and Bucky returned from that mission. And every mission up until now.
Wanda had been telling Y/n stories for a couple of hours, and finally the teenager was fast asleep, her old teddy bear tucked under her chin. That bear had been through everything that Y/n. The 2 were inseparable.
"They loved you Y/n. And they still do. They'll come home. I know it."
Wanda pressed a kiss to Y/n's forehead and buried down under the covers, laying an arm over her niece as a way of protecting her.
"Please come home, Nat. Y/n needs you... I need you." That was the last thought Wanda sent out into the universe before she fell asleep, praying Nat or Bucky would receive and there way home.
One day, hopefully.

Summary: Natasha adopted you from the Red Room when you were only a baby, but when she and Bucky had their own child, she started forgetting about you.
Part 2
"I hate you!" You shouted, slamming the door behind you
"Y/N, we're not done!" Natasha, your mother, shouted from downstairs "Get back here!"
This was a daily occurrence by now.
The, once nonexistent, daily arguments between you and Natasha only got worse over the years.
Although Natasha isn't your biological mother, she raised you like her own after she saved you from the Red Room.
You were only 2 months old when she adopted you and everything went well. You both formed a happy little family for a while.
That was until Natasha started dating Bucky a little after your 10th birthday and she slowly started spending less and less time with you.
But not Bucky was the factor that determined your mother-daughter relationship with Natasha to drift apart.
The main reason behind everything was your 5-year-old baby sister, Tanya, who came into the world a few months after Natasha and Bucky started dating, with a little bit of help from Tony and his technology that, nowadays, seems to defy all odds.
Tanya's arrival only strengthened the bond between her parents, who had a romantic history that started years before even you were born, and, at the same time, weakened the bond between you and Natasha.
You knew the drill by now.
'Tanya is perfect.'
'Tanya is ours.'
'Tanya is innocent.'
Their voices echoed in your brain like a broken record.
Tanya knows that she can get away with everything and Tanya does get away with everything.
Since her birth, it was as if Natasha had completely forgotten about your existence.
It began by ignoring you while she focused her attention solely on Tanya.
She wouldn't feed you anymore, wake you up for school, or cuddle you at night.
She didn't even notice that you changed.
But, how could she, when Tanya was everything she noticed?
You stared at yourself in the mirror.
Determination was etched on your pale face as you picked up the blade that was on your sink.
It became a relief for you.
Sliding that blade on your wrist helped you forget about the unbearable pain in your chest.
The crimson blood that was pooling from the cuts held your attention. The pain of being abandoned by two different mothers was momentarily shoved at the back of your mind.
You started harming yourself 2 years ago when you couldn't take Natasha's ignorance any more.
You haven't told anyone and it's not like they would care if they knew anyways. Tanya was the center of their world, not you.
She was the perfect baby, while you were the adopted bastard and a grand mistake that Natasha made.
Natasha never admitted it out loud but you understood the message from the way she was treating you.
The blade fell down from your hand into the sink.
'Is it all because she never gave birth to me?'
And you stared at the trail of blood it left on the white sink.
'Are adopted kids not important, just because they're not blood related?'
You slowly understood.
'Will I ever be treated the same as Tanya?'
The only one left to understand was Natasha.
"Y/N, do you want to play with my dolls later?" Tanya asked you a few hours later, during dinner
You pulled at the sleeves of your hoodie even more, hiding your hands inside of them.
"Sure, Tatu." You gave the small child a shy smile "I think I'd like that."
"Tatiana." Natasha sternly looked at Tanya but the tone of her voice was soft "Remember we have a movie night tonight. You can play with Y/N another time."
"Can Y/N come too?" Tanya's big, innocent eyes sparkled while she asked, as Natasha refilled the girl's glass of orange juice
"I think she has more important things to do." Natasha replied, not even bothering to ask what you want "We're going to have a mother-daughter night. It's going to be just us two, sweetheart. Wouldn't it be fun?"
"Yay!" Tanya cheered, throwing her arms in the air
But as she did, she accidentally knocked over the glass filled with juice.
"Oh oh..." Tanya said, looking at the spilled juice "Sorry, Mama."
"Don't worry, baby girl." Natasha smiled, sitting up to clean the mess "Accidents happen."
"That's not what you said the last time when I accidentally knocked over my glass of water." You bitterly spat out at Natasha
"You have no right to talk, Y/N." Natasha snapped at you "Shut up!"
"Natalia, honey, calm down." Bucky, who was sitting beside Natasha, put his hand on her arm "She didn't do anything wrong. She's just a kid."
"She's not a kid, James." Natasha shouted, turning her head in Bucky's direction "She's a grown-up teenager now."
"Talia, I think you are just overreacting right now." Bucky kept trying to calm his wife, sparing a glance in your direction
He looked down at your plate that was untouched, the effect of your lack of appetite obvious on your skinny and fragile frame.
"I think I'm full." You quickly sat up from the table
"Sit back down, right in this instance, Y/N." Natasha shouted at you "You don't disrespect your mother like that and get away with it."
"Well, lately, you didn't act like a mother at all." You shouted back at Natasha, pain evident in your voice, but Natasha was oblivious to it "All you care about is Tanya."
"Because she's my child!" Natasha screamed offended "It's only normal to care for her."
"I used to be your child as well!" You shouted, tears forming in your eyes "I still am your child."
"You're not mine!" Natasha shouted and you widened your eyes shocked "You're not anything to me! You aren't my child because you don't have my blood. I didn't carry you or feel you grow day by day inside of me. But with Tanya, I did. You are just a mistake, Y/N!"
"You are the mistake here, Mom!" You cried, slightly lifting your sleeves as Bucky's eyebrows shot in his hairline "Look!" You showed your scarred wrists to the woman "This is all because of you! Why can't you love me like any mother should do? Blood shouldn't be important! You raised me, Natasha."
Bucky reached his metal arm slowly towards your extended arms to inspect your wrists but he was pushed aside by Natasha, who blocked out the fact that you were hurting because of her and ignored the truth, her intrusive thoughts winning as she said something she would never be able to take back.
"You were never truly a part of this family, Y/N!" Natasha shouted "Get that in your head. You are not our blood and you will never be. I saved you because I thought that you would change but I see that you didn't. You are the same. But I did change. I am not the same Natasha that I was in the Red Room. I am better."
Shaking your head, you took a few steps backward.
"I can't believe you." You whispered in disbelief
"Y/N..." Bucky breathed out, sitting up from his chair "Don't listen to your mother, she's just tired. She didn't mean what she said."
"She knew damn well what she was saying." You kept shaking your head, a lone tear falling down your cheek
"Then get that in your head once and for all." Natasha shouted once more, stubbornly fixated on her wrong belief that she was right
"I hate you!" You shouted at Natasha "I wish you never rescued me from the Red Room!"
And with that, you stormed out of the house and ran into the veil of darkness provided by the night.
Bucky tried to run after you but it was too late.
He found no sight of you or any clue where you might have run away to.
Bucky walked inside the house and looked at Natasha who was still oblivious to the damage she had done and muttered one question.
"What have you done?!"

 |——————————— ⴵ ———————————|
Everything had gone wrong today. You woke up with your pyjama pants twisted around your legs and your socks were half off. On top of that, you missed your first alarms, and so you had to wait till 7.30 to get out of bed, instead of 7.15.
Your days had started off terrible, and it was only getting worse. When you went to get dressed, you discovered the outfit you had planned in your head, was in the wash, and so you had to settle for a different one.
You ran out of your favourite breakfast yesterday, and Bucky had forgotten to buy it, so you had to settle with a bowl of simple cereal instead.
When you had gotten to school it seemed like everyone had it out for you.
The classes were too loud, and the teachers were annoying. Everytime you zoned out, or decided to doodle a bit to calm down, the teachers called you out and told you to pay attention.
Once you got to maths, the teacher had actually given you detention for doodling instead of listening to her lesson. You tried to explain that by doodling you could focus on what she was saying better, but she wouldn’t hear it.
Therefore, after the school day, which had already left you insanely overstimulated, you still had to sit through an hour of detention.
After you were finally done, you realised there were no busses driving at this time, so you had to call your mom to come pick you up. Of course, Natasha was happy to do so, and when she opened the door for you, she immediately sensed your mood.
She didn’t try to talk to you in the car, rather just handed you your headphones and allowed you to go in your own little bubble.
Once you got home, Natasha had opened your door, letting you out of the car, being careful not to touch you. After you two had gotten up to the apartment, she opened the door for you, allowing you to walk in first.
Bucky was at the kitchen island getting some work done, yet when you walked in he immediately shut his laptop.
He greeted you with a smile but you didn’t acknowledge him.
Instead, you kicked your shoes off, heading for the couch and letting yourself fall onto it. Natasha gave Bucky a glance, letting him know what was going on. Of course, he understood immediately, getting up and preparing you a cup of hot chocolate, that, according to you, only he could make properly so that it wouldn’t be too sweet or too watery.
Natasha took it upon herself to grab your favourite blanket and made sure to grab your some inside clothing, walking to the couch and letting you get changed.
You had specific inside and outside clothing, and after wearing your clothing outside, it was impossible for you to sit on any furniture in your room with your outside clothing still on.
After you had gotten changed, Natasha helped you get comfortable on the couch, finally starting to speak.
“Would you like to watch something, cuddle, or be alone for a moment?” Natasha asked you gently, wiping some stray hairs from your face. You shrugged, not being sure of anything at the moment.
After a minute or two Bucky walked into the living room, three mugs of hot chocolate in his hands. He had made sure to use your hot chocolate mug, which was different from you cold chocolate milk mug, and he made sure to use the proper spoon.
He handed you the mug, and you smiled slightly, leaning forward to give him a kiss on his cheek.
He knew you weren’t up for speaking right now, and he didn’t dare think about pushing you. He always valued the physical affection you used to express your gratitude.
You sat up on the couch, your favourite blanket draped over you, comfortably weighing you down.
It was then that you decided you wanted to watch your comfort show, but you didn’t feel like talking, yet you didn’t know how else to express yourself. You though for a moment before turning to Natasha, looking at her with pleading eyes.
“Do you need something my love?” she asked, softly stroking your hair.
You nodded and motioned at the tv. Whether it was the fact that they were both highly trained assassins, or the fact that they were your parents, both of them immediately knew what you meant, and they didn’t hesitate to turn your comfort show on.
They waited for you to initiate the cuddling session, and they allowed you to snuggle into them when you were ready.
You put your now empty mug down and leaned your head over to Bucky, snuggling into his warm, strong arms and letting yourself feel safe in his embrace. You laid your legs over Natasha’s legs, and she smiled as she say you and Bucky being so close.
She might not ever admit it, but there was nothing in the world that would ever make her more happy than seeing her child snuggled up with her dad.
