A few dystopian books you all need to read because I swear to god, these are so underrated:

The Extinction Trials, S.M Wilson: Basically a mix of Jurassic Park and The Hunger Games, but honestly, this trilogy is so underrated. The first few chapters are slow, but once you get to the actual bit, they go so fast that I felt like I was the one that needed to take a break and not the characters. Many real plot twists, and it's literally a found family trope. Trust me, if you like dystopia, you WILL enjoy this read.

Slated, Teri Terry: Basically, this is a darker (but more realistic) version of what the UK would be like if it advanced just a little more. It contains tropes of found family and many plot twists as well, and if you enjoyed The Hunger Games, you'd enjoy this one. It also preys on your emotions and uses a bit of psychology, so please try it out.

Mortal Engines, Philip Reeve: Based in London, UK, except that it has advanced to beyond what it is right now. Lots of plot twists (as usual), and while there isn't much of a found family trope, it still shows the importance of family and certain relationships. Also, most of the villains are absolutely loveable, so give this a try.

Fever Crumb, Philip Reeve: Also based in the UK, except this is more of a prequel to Mortal Engines. It has a few science-y things to it, along with a society that's pretty backwards and progressive (strange, right?) and that too, it represents underrepresented people (eg, autism, bisexuality, mutations etc). Also a found family trope.

He cannot be held wholly accountable for his actions, even those committed by his own free will as Laurel’s manipulation took advantage of his deeply set vulnerabilities long before Wednesday came to Nevermore, and therefore he is deserving of forgiveness”

and

“Tyler lied to, manipulated, lead on and attempted to kill Wednesday despite her rarely granted trust in him. We don’t know what level of autonomy he possessed while under Laurels command but the confession scene at the sheriff’s station implies that he was able to confess the truth of who he was and what he’d done. Therefore, although most of his evil deeds were him following orders, some actions still remain his own and he needs to acknowledge and repent for that. He had opportunities to confess to Wednesday and didn’t. He was, to an extent, working with Laurel against Outcasts. And he should not have pursued a romantic relationship with Wednesday no matter his intentions (and especially if he actually liked her and didn’t pursue her as part of Laurels plan). And for these reasons Wednesday isn’t at all obligated to forgive him as Tyler’s trauma doesn’t and shouldn’t negate her own.”

are statements that can and should coexist.

Tyler is a very complex character that has done terrible things but that’s what makes him interesting!

I know I’m a Wenclair shipper and therefore that’s probably why I tend to only see people hating on him. But I think exploring the nuisances of his character and his relationship with Wednesday (and to an extent Enid after their fight in ep.8) is an underrepresented part of this side of the fandom. I don’t see them as romantic (though it’s totally valid if you do!) but I’m excited to see them interact going forward simply because there is so much to unpack there. And I wish more people were on board with that.

Are mental illnesses and neurodivergency recognized and named by the clans? Or are they just seen as “oh yeah randompaw is just a little odd”? Are there stigmas? Treatments?

I create herb guides exactly for this purpose. The next herb guide will be for spinal correction and scoliosis, but the guide after that will be for depression and anxiety.

The way the cats treat neurodivergency depends a bit on the specific issue. Autism, ADHD, I imagine those are like you described. A very, "Oh that's just how they are" sort of thing. Littlecloud obsessed with herbs? Sounds like StarClan has given him a gift. Squilf can't focus on one thing? At first they try to discipline that out of her but when it doesn't work, "that's just how Squirrelpaw is. That's why we're calling her Squirrelflight now."

Dyspraxic? Don't put them on weaving duty. Don't like the texture of leaf litter? Don't send them hunting in the woods. Forgets stuff? Don't force them to remember things.

Stuff like epilepsy or BPD usually needs more management; Sorreltail medicates with valerian root. Cinderheart has a long journey with mindfulness and so does Squilf.

I avoid the cats being able to name and recognize a wide array of neurodivergencies though. If they can't even call Greencough "pneumonia", they certainly don't know the medical name of Epilepsy or Autism.

Sorreltail has absence seizures; which the Clans call "being attacked by daydreams". An autistic cat "lives in their own world". ADHD cats are "always thinking". Cinderheart acts "heart-first".

I come up with the phrases as I need them; plus, I personally find that describing how these things FEEL to the afflicted and APPEAR to the surrounding cast is waaaaaay more impactful than just dropping an in-universe list straight out of the DSM-5, you know? The portrayal is the important part. This isn't a mental illness poke-rap lmao
