#scarecrow fancast
Note
Build me your perfect casting for a new movie about our sassy little twink Scarecrow (we really need one) Any characters, any actors.
Tumblr media
Let's start with our sweet boy Jonathan: I don't think I can (and I certainly don't want to) accept anyone other than Mr. Murphy for this role. If he was great in The Dark Knight trilogy, he'd probably be even better now: more age appropriate, less boyish, but just as attractive AND creepy, because for me those are the two main traits any live action adaptation of Scarecrow needs. This time I'd probably make his hair dark auburn at least.
Tumblr media
I also need more movies where he wears glasses
Now, given that this is practically impossible, there are a couple of more realistic options I wouldn't be so mad about:
Bill Skarsgård
Tumblr media
This is a very self-indulgent pick. I find him attractive, he looks good with glasses, and he knows how to be scary. Is he the best actor for the role? I don't know. Is he hot enough for me to overlook that and enjoy a very slutty and sexy Scarecrow again? Yes.
Caleb Landry Jones
Tumblr media
He would be my first choice if I actually answered with my brain. He can look very creepy and messed up (as he did in Antiviral), but he still has that cute boy aura about him. Extra points for being a redhead because I'm a Year One bitch.
Michael Pitt
Tumblr media
What can I say? I like him in villainesque roles and he makes a great psychopath. I wasn't particularly fond of the way he portrayed Mason in Hannibal, but if he went the Funny Games route, we could have a very good Scarecrow.
Young Christopher Walken
Tumblr media
I can almost hear "call the police" here. If I had a time machine he'd be higher up in the list.
For our angsty playboy Bruce:
Robert Pattinson
Tumblr media
I'm not sure if this is a popular or unpopular opinion at this point, but he might be my favorite Bruce. I like the emo take and I genuinely enjoy his acting. I couldn't understand the backlash when he was announced as the next Batman, but I was introduced to his work by Cronenberg's Cosmopolis (I was never a Twilight girl, no hate to those who like the franchise), and I've also seen how capable he is in other indie movies, so I knew he would deliver.
I also adored Christian Bale's Bruce, and I'm a bigger fan of TDK than The Batman, but Battinson has a special place in my heart.
Now let's think about the movie. I never spent too much time pondering on what my ideal Scarecrow movie would look like because we all know people just want yet another Joker movie and the chances of this happening are close to zero, but there are two things I would like to see:
His background story. We all know that, no matter the universe, he always gets tormented beyond what any human could -or should be able to- stand. I feed on trauma and seeing my favorite characters mentally and physically destroyed, so this is a must. If you ask me, I favor the great-granny option because it's crueler and makes for a more interesting character.
The parallelisms between him and Batman. This may be one of the most interesting points raised by Year One. I want them to be portrayed almost as mirror images. Their actions are fueled by childhood trauma, their motivations are driven by fear, but they end up fulfilling radically opposite yet complementary roles... I want this to explore the nature vs. nurture debate on what makes someone's psyche develop in a specific way, and I want it to be dark and twisted. Give me an even darker Bruce.
As for what other characters I'd like to see here, without a plot in mind, I can't really go deeper, but some options would be:
Great granny Keeny: because in my mind she's the main catalyst of his villain downward spiral. I want her to be somewhat attractive and comic book accurate (let's face it, she's FINE), but I have no one in mind. I picture her as an older version of either Bedelia Du Maurier from Hannibal or Ethel Cripps from The Sandman... Maybe an artificially aged Gillian Anderson would do the trick.
Linda Friitawa (Fright): a very underrated and ignored character that I'd like to see a live action adaptation of. Again, I never fully developed a plot in my mind, so I don't know if there would be a possibility to fit her anywhere and I also wouldn't want to take away from the homoerotic undertones of Scarecrow and Batman's love/hate relationship, because that's essential for me and my very self-indulgent, half-baked idea of a Scarecrow movie. Anya Taylor-Joy would be perfect here.
Tumblr media
...and that's it for now. Although I'll probably regret not mentioning Nygma (not Nashton) and a few others as soon as I hit "post"! ♡ Thanks for your ask @ninja-potato-shelby-solomons ♡

This is just a silly thought, but if white martians are like trees, would Poison Ivy interact with them differently than other humans do? Or are they not enough like trees for that.
Ooh that's a good question! Because they're not exactly trees but they are tree-adjacent. In that white martians give life to flora. That would make some interesting interactions between M'gann and Pamela.
Tumblr media
The key difference between M'gann and Pamela's beliefs being that M'gann believes in peacefully co-existing with nature, meanwhile Poison Ivy's beliefs are more destructive.

If anyone plays Jonathan Crane again, I think the following could do him justice:
Orlando Jones
Tony Todd
Doug Jones
Stephen Merchant
Like, each of them is so unique and could put their own creative spins on him.

I love that I can perfectly balance my new, years-in-the-making Re-Animator hyperfixation with my existing, months-long Batman one because like. That’s just Scarecrow. Herbert? That’s Jonathan Crane.

I'm really excited for The Batman: Part II (and even the new Brave and the Bold movie coming out), and I know a lot of us are hoping to see Scarecrow in them. I think it's always fun to see fancasts because it shows what they might want out of that character.
I've seen people say Bill Skarsgård, Jamie Campbell Bower, and a few others, but I think Jonathan should be much older, more professorial. I've been thinking a lot lately about Stephen Merchant as Crane. He totally has the appearance, but I'm not sure if his very distinct voice would suit Crane.
What are some of your favorite fancasts and why do you think they're best suited for the character?

I'm sorry but the minute you bring fucking MADS AND HARDY into the picture I just turn into a whore. Can you tell us more, please? 👉👈
Also, you're fucking amazing at casting the best DILFs!!!

Oh man, wait until you hear my " Adam Driver as Edward Nygma" fancast sjsjs
So fun fact, I used to find Mads Mikkelsen unattractive, but that's only because I didn't like Hannibal. Now.
This man in other formats?? God help us.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I think it'd be pretty cool if Jon was Bruce's college professor. Maybe even a prodigy/manipulative mentor dynamic?
That could potentially explain why Bruce is "immune" to the fear toxin, -- he knows what to combat what he helped create.
Seeing as Battinson is def a Nerd, I could see Jon nod in approval as Batman's asset of chemical weapons/combatants grows.
And of course he knows who's under the cowl, too, " Cowl or without. You are what you'll always be. A bird with no wings. A boy with a bleeding heart."

I made a Fancast for a Batman TV series in the 80s a while ago, but I only revisited it yesterday. It's almost fully complete (at least, I've filled nearly all the roles I added). Let me list them:
Batman: Pierce Brosnan
Robin I (Dick Grayson): maybe Matthew Broderick?
Robin II (Jason Todd): Not Sure Yet
Batgirl: Molly Ringwald
Alfred: Jon Pertwee
Commissioner Gordon: John Astin
Harvey Bullock: John Candy
Renee Montoya: Rachel Ticotin
Lucius Fox: Not Sure Yet
Leslie Thompkins: Betty White
Jack Ryder: Richard Belzer
Vicki Vale: Dana Delany
Jason Bard: Andrew McCarthy
Aunt Harriet: Doris Roberts or Rue McClanahan
Thomas & Martha Wayne: Adam West & Julie Newmar
The Joker: Willem Dafoe
The Penguin: Danny DeVito
The Riddler: Robin Williams
Catwoman: Mary Steenburgen
Two-Face: Not Sure Yet
Poison Ivy: Kathleen Turner
The Scarecrow: Christopher Lee
The Mad Hatter: Martin Short
Mr. Freeze: Patrick Stewart
Killer Croc: Not Sure Yet
Black Mask: Not Sure Yet
Rupert Thorne: Carroll O'Connor
Ra's Al Ghul: Ricardo Montalban
Talia Al Ghul: Demi Moore
I missed a few here, because the list was getting too long to put on one thing. But you get the picture. For all those I can't yet figure out, suggestions are currently open. I do desperately need help putting the rest of this together. I mean, I've only got 3-4 left. It'd be nice to say I'd completed a cast list (I usually never do). Here's the link if you want to help:

Fancasting Harvey Dent (The Batman 2)
There’s been rumors that the latest casting choices for Harvey Dent, DA of Gotham and future villain ‘Two-Face’, set to appear in “The Batman 2″ has been Josh Hartnett and Joel Edgerton. Both of them are splendid actors, physically impressive, and could do the part justice for sure. Quite a few people are disappointed that they didn’t go for a younger, less known actor, or maybe strike out with someone more unique. Perhaps even going for gender-swapped like they did in “Batman: Earth One”.  I just think that there is a better actor for the role, especially in a ‘Battinson’, Reeves-set Batverse. Specifically, Oliver Jackson-Cohen.
Tumblr media
Best known for his work in “Haunting of Hill House” and “Haunting of Bly Manor”, he’s been in all sorts of works across a variety of genres. He’s been a corrupt knight in the “World Without End” miniseries, he’s been a particularly strange take on the Scarecrow in the reimaging of Oz in “Emerald City”, and he’s been a twisted abusive ex-boyfriend / mad inventor in “The Invisible Man”.  So, goes without saying, he’s got range. And that’s important for Harvey Dent. He needs to believably alternate between upstanding moral guardian, traumatized victim barely coping with his fragile psychological state, the no-nonsense, cutthroat politician and crafty lawyer, and even a complete monster that puts gangsters and hardened criminals to shame.
Tumblr media
What else does he bring to the table though, that other actors suggested for the role haven’t? Fan-favorite and current darling Oscar Isaac has been proven to crush it with playing psychologically damaged characters, “Moon Knight” is testament to that. But that’s a Marvel property and crossing the streams too much can break the already fragile emersion. And John David Washington is fresh-off numerous successes with “BlackKklansman” and “Tenet”, and a black Harvey Dent isn’t unheard of (we forever were robbed of Dee Williams’ chance to portray Two-Face in the Burton films).  Great actors, just as Hartnett and Edgerton are, so apart from a history of very psychologically mature and empathetic performances, what does Oliver Jackson-Cohen bring to the table? Well, he’s the right age at 36, currently closest in age to Robert Pattinson, believable enough to be an especially young and ambitious DA (not a stretch at all when Jayme Lawson, the actress who played Bella Real in “The Batman”, was in her early twenties and running for mayor of Gotham). Also, it’s always favorable when Harvey Dent is a peer to Bruce Wayne, even friendly, rather than rivals or opponents immediately. Part of the draw of Two-Face isn’t just that he’s a well-connected and ruthless crime-figure, but that he’s psychologically tormenting Batman by being one of the victims he couldn’t save, which hurts all the more when they had a close working-relationship, even friendship.
Tumblr media
But also, he’s 6′3. I know that sounds like a miniscule quibble, the camera trickery can make anyone as tall as need be for a part and height alone hardly makes for a successful action scene, but in this case, I’d argue it’s a necessary part to not just Harvey Dent’s natural charisma, but Two-Face’s successful menace. Consider this: Harvey Dent, as Two-Face, stripped of all the fancy dual-toned suits and Tommy-guns, is a burn victim with a law-degree. No superpowers, no other specialty skills or training, just a maimed man who would most definitely be disbarred as soon as he turns to criminality. So how can he be such a longstanding and formidable threat to the Batman?  Slapping a gun in his hand helps, a lot, for sure. Being physically imposing is a definite plus and has been utilized in the animated Batman series and video games. Richard Moll’s gravelly voiced Two-Face in “Batman: The Animated Series” was drawn not dissimilarly from the mobsters he aimed to put away. This was repeated with Travis Willingham’s Harvey Dent in the Telltale games, who was built much like his 6′4 voice actor and capable of beating a man to death with his bare hands when cornered... and even Josh Duhamel’s Harvey Dent in “Batman: The Long Halloween” was snapping the necks of Mafia goons.  Furthermore, in comics like “Batman: Year One”, Harvey’s longstanding attempts to put away Carmine Falcone as well as his physical build both put him in the investigative crosshairs of the GCPD, with Gordon briefly suspecting him of being the Batman. And one of the most satisfying moments in “Dark Victory” was Two-Face physically beating the Joker for daring to pull a gun on him.
Tumblr media
So yes, the added bonus of a Two-Face actor who could pose a genuine threat to Batman in his armor with all his training, however briefly, is warranted.  Between the right age, height, and past roles, Oliver Jackson-Cohen seems tailormade to play Harvey Dent. His part in “Haunting of Hill House” showcased his talent in portraying a vulnerable, broken, traumatized young man as well as a pretty flawless American accent. His part in “The Invisible Man” had him completely different, giving off an aura of palpable, oppressive malevolence and manipulative smugness that filled what few scenes he was in. And even his cheesy role as an eccentric hitman in the 2010 film “Faster” showed off a believable familiarity with firearms.  My choice for Harvey Dent / Two-Face, especially in “The Batman” universe. Everyone else, let me know what you think, and any other fancastings you’d like to hear about.

Robert Battison fancast based on vibes. And my own delusion.
Joker is Timothée Chalamet. Just imagine him beating a kid. I feel he can have the range. Trust me I’ve thought about it long. I have like concept art of this.
Two Face is Henry Cavill/ or A Harley Quinn and Harvey Dent mashup played by Dacre Montgomery.
Scarecrow is Tyler Posey. I can’t explain that. I just feel it’d be fun for me specifically. Like I want them to make him so ill. Even funnier if we never see his face.
Catman is Charlie Cox. Just look up catman.
Dr Freeze (he has a doctorate and I’m acknowledging it) is, hear me out a woman. I feel I deserve yuri. Wouldn’t Dr Freeze be a great choice for some yuri. I want the wife to be an abstract concept. Like no actor or photos, just a shadow maybe.
Manbat is Andrew Garfield. (This is just for funsies for me.) Reasonably though I’d want like the most sickly man.
Ghostmaker is uhhhhh idk, WAIT I WANT AVAN JOGIA.
All the robins and batgirls are just random kids pulled off the street. I want Robert to just randomly stroll a neighborhood and yank a kid to put in pixie boots.
Yes, I’m aware some of these might not be like accurate representations of the characters identities, but this is purely vibes and delusion. I will slam my foot down that the robins are accurate races. I don’t care what anyone says, Jason is Latino and Tim is Wasian.
I’ll probably take some caffeine or wait till I’m sleep deprived enough to come up with more names.
