I can't remember my awakening :(

The problem with having dissociative amnesia and be in the non human community is that I see all of these other beings saying, like, "I awakened in 20xx"

and I'm like I- I don't remember. I cannot remember . And then I don't feel valid, and I know it's stupid, but.

Like, idk if anyone can relate, but I don't even remember when I discovered what being non human/therian meant!!

Sometimes I feel like I just spawned here and it sucks!! I can't remember anything about me or my past.

hi i'm still around and i am finally caught up on things in my life, so i have time to catch up with this blog and all the questions people have asked! starting with a very old one. or several.

I had multiple anonymous messages asking me how I would draw specific fantasy beings to be less human, including witches of various elements. Rather than trying to answer each of them individually, I thought it would be more effective and helpful to talk about the general idea of taking fantasy designs that are usually more human looking and changing them to be less human. My favorite option is the alternate evolution, which I have been working and working on with my own fantasy people species.

Elves in particular have been a struggle, because I chose to keep my elves as a type of primate. It's been rough trying to abandon the recognizably human parts of their design and further embrace the simian features, because my brain does still have an internal bias towards the standard "elves are humanoid but more beautiful" trope. But I think I'm finally hitting the right level of "monkey" in their design.

The other option shown here is one I just don't do much, and which could be even further exaggerated into the uncanny valley. Take your humanoid characters and just shove them into the uncanny valley, exaggerate their features, add new things that have nothing to do with speculative evolution and just help emphasize the unique traits you want them to embody. elemental witches who become more and more fused with their element. nature beings like dryads that really just look like they broke out of the center of a tree. etc.

I'll make a few more posts with full body examples for both options, but I hope these portrait examples help a little!

remember, you don't need me to give you every detail of how your character and creature designs should look, and you don't need anyone else to do that for you either. If you want a particular artist to give you a specific design exactly as they would draw it, you ask about commissions and you pay them to do that design for you. this blog exists so I can post my ideas and give advice and occasionally nitpick about common mainstream fantasy design tropes that bother me lol. I'll give you ideas, but you gotta do the work yourself. that's how you improve.

If you could be something that had a mating season or mating rituals (omegaverse/half or full alien/etc), which side of it would be better to be on? The petitioner or the judger?

Like if you’re the petitioner, it could come with cool stuff like maybe you’re visually striking, or maybe you’re good at building stuff, or just whatever would help you get a mate

But if you’re trying to hide that, it would be so difficult, like even if you have nothing visually different, if you get a crush? everyone’s gonna know

Meanwhile, if you’re the judger, it would probably be way easier to hide it, and it would probably be really flattering to have people bid for your affection, but could you turn off the judgement?

A friend dyes their hair and shows you and you either go “I accept you” or “you’ll never have a chance with me”, it just slips out. mortifying.

It’s a warning that he is not prey; far from it, actually — and it is the only one the other BOW will get.

Scamper hadn't been bothering anyone or anything, attached to the ceiling listening. The creature had found a few rats scurrying about. Devouring them. He had heard the steps, head tilting towards the noise. He seemed like a puppy in some reactions but Scamper just wasn't interested in most interactions. Hearing the guttural noise emitted from what made the steps. Scamper moved down the wall nearest to him & moved to walk to the other side of the being. Ready to pass him, find another spot to nap & wait on something small for easy tongue grabbing.

One thing I don't think people fully understand the importance of, is diversity shown to children.

For example, I was shopping the other day, and there was a Muslim doll, with all the other dolls. Two boys, must have been no more than five, got really excited, they were delighted to see representation of themselves

Another example, when I was younger, I read a book that involved queer characters. I fully believe that it contributed greatly to my self acceptance, and understanding of myself.

Representation is important.

it's always "i don't judge !!" until a person is a therian or just nonhuman in general, their religion is something they don't agree with or don't see as a "real or valid" religion [like satanism or autotheism], they identify with xenogenders and use "weird" pronouns, they have a "cringy" style like emo, scene, goth, or harajuku fashion, they're disabled, they act childish and age regresses, they have extreme intrusive thoughts, they have "odd" interests, they don't have proper hygiene because of poor mental health, their identity "doesn't make any sense", they're "too fat" or "too skinny", or they're just "not attractive". stop cherry picking, you can't claim "you don't judge" when you can't accept these people. be better.
