Rei and Miri in Buddy Daddies Episode 5 - SPOILERS!
Even though there was a lot of focus on Kazuki, rightfully, fretting, I do feel like this episode focused a lot more on Rei’s bond with Miri.
First we start off with Rei and Miri playing games together. A big change from Ep. 2 when Miri was roll all over his games and when Miri asked if he has Morio Kart, he gave a quick and clear “No.” Though it seems like he has Morio Kart now, because of those sound effects and the way Miri is moving around while she is playing. It’s like she is leaning into the movement of her kart, I used to do that a lot as a kid playing games, and still do that when I’m really into it as well:
Then we have Kazuki telling them all the stuff they can’t buy or get anymore because the money is tight, and we get this scene below:
Of both Miri and Rei looking at Kazuki like he is awful, lol. This scene above really does feel like a family moment though, they feel like a family unit here, and they should, since they’ve had Miri for a little more than three months now. We see at the start of this episode that it’s the end of March (it makes me wonder if the series will get to May and “Mother’s Day” and how that will get handled).
Then later we see Rei focusing on the fact that Miri has homework. He focuses in on the presentation aspect of the assignment ( “tell...everyone?”), while Kazuki focuses in the “parent’s job” aspect. I’d imagine that, outside of the “it being told to everyone” aspect, the presentation aspect would be the worst part for him, personally. Meanwhile, Kazuki is the one that cares a bit more about image and the like, so he focuses in the job aspect specifically.
I’ll go back to that conversation on her homework in a little bit. But, for now, when he tries to get away, Miri is the one that stops him this time, instead of Kazuki like in the past.
Later, when Miri gets lost, he lets out a little huff of concern when he tells Kazuki that “Miri’s gone.” Rei is a generally more composed person, he doesn’t really express his feelings, unlike Kazuki who is very open and very freaked out. Jumping to some...WILD...conclusions, not only in regards to Miri, but to stuff involving Kyutaro. Though Miri is a very good girl and tries her best to not say “papas,” lol. And I can’t really capture it here, but Rei was really putting in a lot of speed when he runs off to try and find her along with Kazuki. (Side note: I love how the animation keeps in his hunched over position and lazy gait, even when he is running).
Then, towards the end of the episode, they spend time to show Rei gently, carefully, and properly picking up Miri. She isn’t being placed in his arms like Ep. 2 or running into his arms for him to pick up like Ep. 3. In Ep. 4 we do see him holding her in his lap, but I think this is the first time we’ve seen him actually pick her up like this.
And he’s the one that says, “Let’s head home, then.” Between last week, when they gave Miri her room, and this week, with him acknowledging his apartment as their home, it seems like he is fully accepting of the idea that Kazuki and Miri are going to be permanent fixtures of his life and will just be living in his apartment.
And the way Miri worded this, “And it’s toasty warm when we all sleep together!” makes me think that the whole “sleeping in one bed” thing happened more than once. Maybe she is only talking about before she had her bed, but she might be talking about times when she had a nightmare or something and slept together with them (though, we do see Rei still sleeping in the bathtub this episode, unless he only did that because Kazuki was out). Hmm...
Anyway, after Rei picks her up, she immediately knew it was him and not Kazuki. She’s likely still in a half-awake, half-asleep phase and was probably able to recognize it was him through scent, warmth, the feel of his jacket, etc. All these small things that indicate that she has been held close by him and knows what it’s like to be held by him.
Kazuki’s expression is obviously his worry over her spilling the beans here on them being her papas, but Rei’s expression...I don’t know. I feel it may be more shock that she knew it was him. Especially given the shot right after she says it and starts breathing easily again (the image above). He seems reassured about the fact that she is safe and unharmed and knows her Papa Rei, even when she is practically asleep. Then he shoots daggers at Kyutaro initially when he states “I know everything” in a very serious voice. He was probably getting ready to fight for Miri (like, physically).
This all ties back into him adjusting to Miri in the sense of realizing he needs to take more responsibility for her safety, especially after Kyutaro gives him and Kazuki a tough love style speech on the danger and responsibility they are going to have realize and face by bringing Miri into their lives and being her fathers.
Finally, we have her presentation. Kazuki tells her thanks for the pictures she drew of them, while Rei focuses more on her skills, “Well done” (on the presentation). It makes me wonder if Rei may end up being the one that acknowledges and helps her with her academic skills more than Kazuki, since that is an area more relatable to him (value being placed in skills). His eyes look softer too.

You watched in awe as a screen seemed to pop up out of nowhere just off to the left of you, solid enough to see a frontal view of the boys in their karts at the starting line, but not enough to block your view of anything behind it (should anything exciting happen). While it was true technology was always advancing, sometimes it just completely blew you out of the water.
Large, unseen speakers suddenly flipped on - you could hear the buzz of the feedback - and music suddenly began playing, loud and clearly indicative of the imminent start of the race. The camera cut to each of the boys’ faces, and you couldn’t help but grin at them in their karts.
Junior looked incredibly determined in the midsized kart you’d requested for him; his brows were furrowed, lips pressed together with the corners of his mouth dipped down, and he was gripping his steering wheel tightly. Next to him was Morton, sitting in his tiny kart, with a wide, goofy grin across his snout and his shoulders hunched in a more relaxed posture. Ludwig was on the other side of Morton, in that large kart, and although he seemed relaxed and neutral, his arms were practically straight as he held the wheel, betraying his nerves of this practice race.
Three.
Two.
One.
All three of the boys took off at the same time, hurtling toward the thwomps at startling speed. Your eyes were glued to them until they barreled through the item blocks and sped under the falling stones and out of sight - at which point you quickly looked toward the screen.
The feeling of Bowser’s arm moving around you forced your attention away just as Morton, just barely lagging behind the others, threw a red shell. You looked down to see your king opening the letter you had forgotten about; he didn’t seem worried about keeping it from you, so you didn’t feel bad about reading it when he unfolded it.
Son,
I just wanted to remind you how proud I am of you and of the monarch you’ve grown into. There’s no one who can truly match you - not even Peach herself. And, speaking of, congrats on finally getting over her! Although I think we both know you have been for a while and just didn’t want to admit it. In any case, now it seems that you found someone you truly care about instead of mere infatuation, and it seems she actually feels the same.
I can guarantee that there won’t be an end to dealings with Peach, but hopefully going forward things are more planned… you know how she likes it when that red-themed bastard chases her. Hopefully now it’ll be better for everyone considering you’ve swayed that sweet little handmaiden to you. Just don’t forget that even if you two don’t end up married, your time with her will always be worth it!
Anyway. Expect a cake in your room after dinner.

By the time you were done reading, your face and neck were burning from the deep-set blush. Another grandkid? Bowser already had eight kids, but apparently Kamek wanted one from you!
Bowser chuffed above you, his tail flicking against the back of the chair. “Idiot,” he mumbled. “Don’t listen to him, li’l lady. He’s just a whore for grandkids, apparently; there won’t be no surprises here. I’m not tryna trap you or nothin’.”
“Even though we didn’t use protection?” You swallowed a bit and glanced down at your stomach. Was it even possible for him to get you pregnant, given your species difference?
He rumbled softly, lightly nuzzling your temple, and your hand went up to his muzzle. Although he didn’t say anything, you understood he was making that promise to you - there wouldn’t be an unexpected kid until you and he were both ready.
But then, were you just supposed to hope you didn’t get pregnant from this first time? You could feel your heartbeat starting to quicken as the fear of getting pregnant because you weren’t thinking right during a moment of passion sunk in. Bowser rumbled again, this time a deeper sound, and kept nuzzling you.
“Easy, sweetheart. My magikoopas will make sure nothin’ happens, okay?” he cooed softly.
You nodded slowly and forced yourself to relax against him, returning your eyes to the screen as he tucked the letter back into the envelope. Based on the miniature map in the corner, the boys were almost done with their first lap out of three, although you couldn’t see them with your own eyes just yet. It looked like Ludwig was currently in the lead, but the other two weren’t too far behind. It could turn out to be anyone’s race still.
You’d just have to trust that things would turn out okay. You had yet to have any reason not to trust him, after all - he’d kept the trust you put in him so far, after all. Down to getting rid of Rodney permanently.
“Big man?” you murmured, your hand still on his muzzle.
“Don’tcha mean Dadd-”
“Bowser, I’m being serious.”
“Ah… yeah, sweetheart?”
You smiled a little, gently rubbing his snout a bit before you brought your hand down to scratch just under that cleft chin of his. “I’m really glad you kidnapped me.” Your eyes didn’t leave the screen until the boys finally came screeching around that second-to-final corner, on the straight where the spinning fire was.
Predictably, he leaned his head into the scratches. “I borrowed ya,” he corrected in a mumble. A faint swishing sound behind you gave away his wagging tail. “And I fully intended to give ya back.”
You chuckled as you watched the karts hurtling toward the start of their second lap, even giggling as Ludwig narrowly (and unknowingly) missed a green shell thrown by Junior. You did know enough about racing to know that no one was in danger, not really, despite the surprisingly violent nature of some of the items. Did you know how most of it worked? No! But knowing that would potentially take some of the awe away, and you were just fine not knowing.
“Intended, past tense,” you pointed out with a soft, pleased hum. “Not anymore?”
He scoffed, or at least tried to while getting chin scratches. “I mean, you don’t seem too keen on leavin’ anyway… besides, I got a selfish reputation - I am a king, y’know - so…”
You moved your hand a little to the side and he moved his head to accommodate the new scritch location, allowing you to place a sweet kiss on his muzzle. His eyes popped open in surprise, and he glanced at you, blushing in surprise. You, however, kept your eyes on the screen, though you could see it in your peripherals.
Admittedly, seeing him blush was adorable. It was probably the same reason why he liked to make you blush so much.
Bowser didn’t say anything as he rested his chin lightly on your shoulder. You smiled, leaning your head against his as you watched a red shell (thrown by Junior) hit Ludwig and flip his kart right at the start of the second lap. Junior and Morton both flew by the eldest koopaling into a nice lead, but it still could end up anyone’s race.
You settled against Bowser to watch, grinning. This was turning out to be a really nice afternoon.

AVCon Day 1 2023 Report
I had the opportunity to go to AVCon this year, a convention in Adelaide that made its return this year! It was my first ever anime convention, and it was a whole load of fun!
I went with Pie @piedivide, a good friend of mine! He cosplayed 9S, you’ll see him throughout the report hehe ^^

Since I was going to a convention, I thought I should cosplay! When else would I have the chance to after all?
There were so many characters I wanted to cosplay, but at the end I chose…..
Bocchi-Chan from Bocchi The Rock!
Here is my beautiful pose I did because I couldn’t think of any other pose lol
Her wig was an absolute nightmare though, it was always so tangled even when I brushed it out, I’m definitely going for a character with shorter hair next time.

But regardless, let’s actually get into it!
Pre-Con
I got my butt up at 6am in order to get ready, since I wanted to get to the convention around 10am (spoiler alert I did not manage to get there by 10am).
I tied my hair back here because I was worried about sitting on the wig and pulling it off, but honestly I probably didn’t need to lol
Since the convention is in the city, I had to catch the train.
In full cosplay.
It didn’t help I forgot the timetables change on the weekends so I had to wait like 30 minutes at the station for the train to come with my mum lol
People were staring which was understandable, I was Bocchi after all with her bright pink hair and colourful costume lol
Lucky for me, there was a Yuyuka cosplayer and a few others also in cosplay so I felt less embarrassed.
The Yuyuka cosplayer actually sat behind me on the train!
Once I got to the station, I went straight to the bathroom to brush out my wig because it was a hot mess.
Still was a hot mess here actually lol
Con Time!
I met with Pie after my attempts of fixing the wig and we headed to the convention! So we got there like after 11am!
There was a okay line and we waited, and of course me being me, instantly started freaking out about all the cosplayers and pointing out who was who lol
Like right when we got to the line, I saw a Kagamine Rin cosplayer and I freaked out lol
There was a very pretty Mona too and I freaked out again lol
I did a lot of freaking out okay. That’s just how I am. You can’t expect me to stay calm at an anime convention! That’s like…impossible.
We were holding our phones with the QR code for our tickets and it was hard to believe we were here.
Pie and I sort of spontaneously decided to go like 8 months ago and I never thought the day would finally come. As we got closer and closer, it became more and more real.
Once we got in, we got our passes and we headed straight into the food hall (only because we had no idea where was what and we couldn’t be bothered getting out the map so it was a fun adventure lol).
I'm so glad we got passes! I thought we would get the paper tag but no! Real passes! Felt so cool!
Continuing straight, we arrived into the Video Games Hall, which had a giant stage and a lot of laptops! And right on the side was….handhelds?!
Whole bunch of games and consoles for sale, ranging from the N64 to the Wii! PlayStation 1! 3DS! DS! I was surprised, I didn’t think that I’d see any Wii games at the convention.
My hard drive I use with my Wii actually stopped working so I’ve been buying physicals of the games I really like ;;
And lo and behold, they had Mario Kart Wii. The one game I’ve been looking for since like….2021? Now I can play CTGP and mods!!
Instantly bought it along with Wii Sports Resort because I love Wii Sports Resort. Been wanting to play it.
And it was right there and I couldn’t resist okay
Already managed to spend money and I just got there lmao
It is what it is.
Anyway, we continued through the hall, admiring all the games. It was just all so cool! I saw Street Fighter 6 and went :O
There was also a giant Game and Watch System!
I was mostly in awe the whole time. I also continued my freaking out lol
Then we exited to the Artist Alley. The holy grail of art. There were over 90 artists there.
Hoo boy I dropped money here lmao
We beelined to Kamaniki’s booth (I freaked when I saw their name on the map lol), but also taking the time to walk and see all the art! Everyone is so talented, it’s incredible!
We found Kamaniki’s booth and we each bought two prints. I got Pyra and a Bocchi the Rock one!
Pie and I decided that we had to buy a print with our respective characters on it, and we did! Pie got a Nier Automata one that had 9S on it.
We then continued our trek, and then I bought more prints because I couldn't resist lol
We then went to the Exhibition Hall which was full of anime merch! There were stalls everywhere.
We saw Callie and Marie plushies and guess what we did….
We bought them instantly lol
I got Callie and Pie got Marie!
Then we walked around some more and oh my god they had Hololive gacha. Volume 4 and 5. I made this screech and Pie laughed his head off lmao
I love Hololive okay
I thought we needed coins for it (which I did not have) but we had to buy tokens (which I could with the power of my card). I bought two rolls and did each Hololive gacha!
I tried to predict who I would get but I was very wrong haha, but I didn’t mind who I got. I like everyone in Hololive!
I got Lui and Marine! Love them so much.
Pie did a Spy X Family one and a Hololive one too. He actually nearly did the wrong gacha until I yelled at him not to lol (you’re welcome Pie lol).
I saw a stall that was operated by my Uni (they’re a sponsor) and it made me think about the fact I had Uni the next week ;;
Then we walked around some more! It was so cool seeing so much merch in one place! Had to resist buying stuff, I already spent quite a bit at this point aha
After we decided to go get some food because we were hungry.
We wanted to try Takoyaki but they ran out, all they had left was Karaage Chicken. It was really good!
We had to wait for like…20 minutes for it which was fun. I was 47th and they only announced like...30…..

Someone actually came up to me asking for a photo during that time and I was really happy!
Never thought I’d get asked for any photos honestly. It made me so happy! Pie got asked for photos too, it was so cool!
Actually someone came up to Pie and said “Hey I really like your 2B costume!” which was really hilarious lmao
Of course Pie was kind and stuff and said thank you but still lol
And Pie also asked for photos as well!

I had the bright idea to torture myself by using chopsticks. I know how to use them, but I’m absolutely crap at using them.
I also had a fork so I could give up at any time. Like halfway through, I decided to just use my fork. I reached out to grab it, thinking I would be saving myself all the struggle.
But tragedy struck.
I DROPPED THE FORK ON THE GROUND 😭
I was forced to use the chopsticks the whole time and Pie just watched me suffer
I’m a chopsticks failure……
After I finally finished, we went to get some photos together! For this occasion, I bought a tripod! It came in handy!
We took a lot of photos!
Some of the ones I like (I would put them all but no space sadly, Tumblr limit ;;)
My eyes also decided to kill themselves half way through and I had to retreat to the bathroom. I looked like I was crying when I wasn’t ;;
My eyes like to do this thing where if something irritates it, it starts tearing up immediately. It’s very fun (T_T)
I think it was after this, I saw a Mizuki from Arknights cosplayer. Didn’t expect to see Mizuki here but I freaked out of course lol
I love Mizuki.
And I really wanted a photo. But I was too shy to ask.

Then we just walked around for the rest of the con pretty much, though all the halls. Bought some more prints and simply enjoyed our time!
When it was nearly the end of the con, we decided to buy each other one print that the other would like. We split off, and I went bounding down the left side of the Artist Alley.
I didn't even go that far when I saw the perfect print. It was a beautiful BOTW print with Link riding a horse. It screamed Pie so I bought it immediately.
The artist even offered another print for another $10 but I declined because we were only meant to get one print for each other.
So I sat and waited at the area we agreed to meet at since I already found the perfect print quicker than I anticipated.

More people asked me for photos actually to my surprise, there was this little kid who wanted a photo with me and it was so adorable. Made my heart warm hehe ( ◠‿◠ )
Like so! I heard "Bocchi" from behind me and I'm like "Huh??" “That’s me!”
I honestly wished I got more pictures with cosplayers, I was too shy to ask like anyone lol, next time I really want to ask people! Got to be more confident!
But I did admire them from afar! Staring a bit creepily but that’s definitely what Bocchi would do lol
There were these Genshin cosplayers that looked amazing, especially this Yaoyao and this Arlecchino and Columbina!!
And I saw Mew Ichigo too!! Apparently they made their cosplay themselves which is sick.
I didn’t take that many pictures of the convention itself, since I was mostly just experiencing everything, taking it all in. Next time I want to take more!
And make a vlog too!
Definitely want to go to another convention again! And spend way too much money (I refuse to look at my bank account, I don't want to know how much I spent lol).

The Mario movie review (spoilers)
I want to talk about the movie because I really liked it! So spoilers below!
First of all, I watched the movie in french, so I won't talk about the VA's performances, it's strictly about the story and characterization.
In general
The plot is pretty generic, nothing too mindblowing nor revolutionary. What did you expect for an origin movie about a very famous video game franchise ? Honestly it was extremely fun to watch it, there was a lot of references that didn't feel too shoehorned in. People who don't know shit about the franchise can still enjoy the movie as much as people who are avid fans of it. And that's a big good point for the movie. Because it wasn't done for the fans... well, maybe that was the case but everyone else can still have good times watching it!
My 7 years old inner self almost got a panic attack for the underwater scene, BECAUSE OF THAT GODDAMN FUCKING EEL, MAN. I got TRAUMATIZED of that thing back in Super Mario 64 and in the theatre i was like "is that the eel? that's gotta be the damn eel, isn't it?" AND BOY I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. I loved it and hated it at the same time, you know what I mean? I liked how they intergrated the nightmare™ in the movie, but I still hate that thing.
When Luigi landed in the dark land (or whatever its name is in english), I was expecting a few boos. It was still a kinda scary scene with the dry bones all over the place, if I was a child I know this would have terrified me to my core. Still not over the fucking eel.
I think I never fangirled so much than during the kart making scene. I don't know why, I'm really not a big fan of vehicles and engines in general, but this scene? Seeing the karts being personalized was such a god tier moment for me, idk I just loved it! Then you have Toad with the biggest ass kart ever xD
They were quite vague about Peach's origin story, they're probably keeping it for a sequel, but it seems she is from the same world as Mario. Either way, it's a nice explaination as to why a human woman is ruling the Mushroom Kingdom full of Toads. The movie ended nicely, without too much sequel baiting, because as a standalone movie it's really fine if Nintendo won't make another one.
If I have to say one negative about the movie storywise, it's that no one dropped a penguin over the cliff, biggest disappointment of my life. My day is ruined 😂
The characters
I'll start with the cameos because people have a tendency to forget them. And I want to keep the best for last. Nice to see Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong in the crowd, they weren't forgotten by the writers! King Bob-Omb and King Boo were also cameos during the wedding scene, it was awesome. I freaking LOVED the blue shell koopa, he was such a fucking maniac, down for murder and completely insane. AND THEN HE DID THE THING!!! You know what I'm talking about, he went full kamikaze mode and was like "I'll take you down with me", best highlight of the movie (that was not about the brothers. more about them later). The luma was such a mood. His childlike voice saying the most disturbing things was hilarious xD Same, bro, same. Toad was... well he was just there. I liked his adventurous/brave personality.
I loved Peach, she was great. Both cute and badass as well as down to heart character. Liked how she was like "nobody gets it right the first time", nice reference to the video games (i also felt personally attacked by this statement, cuz i can suck at video games sometimes xD). She was grace, she was gentle, she was a true princess. Also, I liked how they didn't force too much romance between her and Mario. I mean sure, they are each other's love interest in canon so I wouldn't be mad if they have romantic moments in a possible sequel, but the movie didn't focus on that.
Bowser was truely funny. And menacing. It's the kind of characters who can do both and that's why we all love him. Loved all of his facial expressions. It was a blast everytime he was on screen. I don't know what else to say about him, he was such entertaining. His little musical number was 10/10.
Donky Kong was cool. I loved his interactons with Mario, worst enemies at first sight, and I liked how the writers kept their antigonistic relationship because duh, DK was Mario's first enemy. Liked how they almost had a bonding moment for having disappointed dads. But nope, DK was too prideful to admit he could relate to the guy who beat him xD
And now, make way for the best part of the movie: the brothers.
You have NO IDEA how much I loved them. They were so wholesome and protective of each others, it's so heartwarming, guys. Everything about them was ✨perfection✨. I knew they were going to get separated while watching the first trailer and still got shocked to see it happening in the second trailer. I don't know why. It was going to be expected. So going in the movie, I was waiting for this moment again, because with more build up to it I knew it would break me. And it did. Mainly with that one line : "Nothing can hurt us as long as we're together." Man. Fucking man. That line DESTROYED me.
The bros are protective of each other and it's everything I wanted to see onscreen. I can be a heartless bitch sometimes, but I'm extremely emotional when I see fictional brothers and sisters having wholesome moments between them. It's everything for me. Mario defending Luigi everytime was awesome. During the worksite scene, Mario was opening the way for Luigi and that's adorable as fuck, man. He knows Luigi can't jump or do parkour so he makes sure Luigi can still follow him. Love love love love!!!!!! Then you have the disappointed dad. Telling Mario that he's bringing down his brother with him. Mario goes sulking in his room, thinking he's made a mistake or a bad decision. AND THEN Luigi comes into the room reassuring Mario it's not the case. Amazing. Emotional support bro for the win.
Luigi saying that Mario is the best guy in the world is so great to me. He loves deeply his big brother and I'm just sobbing softly in my corner thinking about them. I cried like a baby watching them reuniting, I am not joking. Their hug was everything. AND THEN!!!! LUIGI COMES IN THE WAY OF BOWSER'S FLAMES TO SAVE HIS BIG BRO AND THROWS THE LINE™ BACK AT MARIO, I JUST- I CAN'T- I- !!!!!!
Everything about them was amazing. Their relationship was cute, wholesome, heartwarming, so pure... A lot of people arleady talked about them in details so I feel like i would repeat what has already been said. The Mario brothers were extremely sweet to watch from the beginning to the end. That was the best part of the movie: their relationship. Brothers loving each other is important to see onscreen. Fraternal love is a beatiful love that needs more attention from the medias.
To conclude, the movie was great, the characters awesome and the worldbuilding was perfect.

FAKE spoilers for For the Future
These are FAKE spoilers to drown out the real ones - some are funny, but mostly this is to make a long-ish post to drown out actual spoilers in the tags. And some of these I think are neat. here they are:
-The episode starts on a cold open of the Isles, set to Charles Ives’ Down East. The shots are of drained bodies, barren landscapes, and remaining witches burning their clothes and staves for warmth. On the final “Nearer to me”, we smash cut to a closeup of the Collector’s eyes, looking out on the landscape.
-King has been keeping the Collector at bay by playing Mario Kart 64 and constantly beating him thanks to being taught the game by Luz
-Camilla walks in on Luz and Amity getting too cuddly. This is played for laughs.
-EDA shows up and has regained her arm, because she stole one of Terra Snapdragon’s. So now she has lopsided arms. This is a nightmare for the cleanup staff and a strike is imminent.
-Lilith has gone bonkers, and is hoarding decoy ducks, in the hope that she can enchant them to fly, and fly to the human realm. This is most certainly NOT played for laughs.
-Hooty has fangs now. Collector did it.
-We get a flashback to Caleb and Evelyn, having a good time, while Philip gets the first and only villain song of the series. His singing voice is provided by Norm Lewis!
-Boscha returns, but dies in Amity’s arms after being run through by a giant rock launched at him by the collector in a very high stakes game of Red light Green light. This game is soundtracked by Slint’s Nosferatu Man.
-In fact, all the games are soundtracked by Slint, Swans, and the Fall of Troy
-They finally defeat the collector by challenging him to the most complicated game in human history - EUCHRE! He is so confused that he explodes.
-He is replaced by 4 other collectors, all of whom restrain Luz and whisk her away, to be saved in the next chapter...

2023 Year End List - Introduction and Honourable Mentions
Here we go again! 🤘😤🤘
Continuing the tradition of making this harder and more drawn out for myself every consecutive year, I've decided to do a top 20 records + some honourable mentions for my 2023 year end list.
But in all seriousness, this has been the most exciting year in the new decade so far by quite a wide margin, and I have so many projects that I've been really wanting to gush about on this blog. Suffice to say, this year's round up is gonna be a little bit lengthier.
And I hope you really enjoy going all in as much as I do, because the reviews are also probably gonna be longer as well. I have at least one definite 10/10 record at the #1 spot which I am incredibly hyped to write about, and I will try my best to limit myself to twenty paragraphs max, but I'm not gonna make any hard promises.
But first off, I wanted to honour 3 LPs that almost made the list + an EP that doesn't qualify for the list proper (LPs only). Just gonna be dishing out a few quick thoughts on each of these projects.
So let's get down to it!!
Knower Forever - Knower
Main Genres: Jazz-Funk, Synth Funk
A decent sampling of: Jazz Fusion, Jazzstep, Art Pop, Nu-Jazz
My dad actually introduced me to Louis Cole's work properly last year, but my first exposure to him was that "Bank Account" meme song he did back in 2017 (simpler times...). My old man sang the praises of his "Weird Part of The Night" and I definitely have to agree - some very solid funky stuff.
So this year, I familiarized myself with his band, Knower, and their latest LP.
Knower Forever is a very clever, silly, sometimes vulgar jazz-funk record with some kickass virtuoso musicianship, and I totally love its vibe. It doesn't take itself to seriously; the technical skills of the performers really speaks for itself.
Lots of snarkiness on "I'm The President" with iconic lyrics such as "Mount Rushymore has some tits" and a frigging brilliant piano solo breakdown. "Nightmare" sounds like funky Mario Kart DS music for some reason. "It's All Nothing Until It's Everything" is screeching nu-jazz insanity which turns into an ethereal cacophony of intense pleasure.
Definitely front-loaded and could've been slightly edited down. Some of the second half feels redundant. I almost considered putting this at #20, but the other record was just slightly better for me + the other half of this duo, Genevieve Artadi, was very busy this year with making her own jazzy solo record which will actually be making an appearance later on this list. Still, don't skip this one if you like music with a hell of a lot of personality.

Norm - Andy Shauf
Main Genres: Chamber Pop
A decent sampling of: Lounge, Twee Pop, Soft Rock, Folk Pop
Norm is one fucked up little record. If you know anything about cuddlecore band Heavenly's 1993 EP Atta Girl (an all-time fav of mine and possibly the best concept EP ever), then you'll recognize this LP as having a very similar concept. Additionally, this is similarly also probably best enjoyed as a going-in-blindfolded experience, so I'll put a spoiler warning riiiiiiiiiiiiight.........HERE.

DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU WANT TO RECEIVE THE FULL SHOCK FACTOR OF THIS RECORD.
Yeah, so this record is about a seriously disturbed stalker with a crush (from the stalker's perspective), but you wouldn't know that if you were just vibing to the breezy, laidback folksy chamber pop tunes that Andy Shauf writes.
Incidentally, this is perfect for a lazy autumn afternoon on a warm, partly-cloudy day. Andy's voice is such saccharine softboi material, that it makes the darker underbelly of this record all the more sickening. "Wasted On You" feels like a crooked smile once you understand the context, with that little uncanny plucked riff.
Admittedly, it's a bit too one-note at times for its concept and (again) could've been edited down. Definitely will lose some less patient listeners with its lackadaisical flow, and I would totally understand why. But the narrative is really well-written. Andy does a great job somehow both humanizing his character while incredibly disturbing us, the listener, with his unreliable narrator. Very Nabokov.

Pollen - Tennis
Main Genres: Soft Rock, Psychedelic Pop, Indie Pop
A decent sampling of: Sophisto-Pop, Twee Pop, Pop Soul
I had to include this somewhere, even if it didn't make the full cut.
The adorkable, young 'old married couple' turned retro-loving soft rock duo Tennis were responsible for my #1 favourite 2020 record with the glorious shimmer of their anniversary album Swimmer, a record that channeled and ultimately rivaled the greatness of 70s feel-good pop mega-acts like ABBA, The Carpenters, and Fleetwood Mac.
A difficult act to follow, for sure. So what did the band do? Took the gauzy, psychedelic tones of a few of the tracks from the previous record and turned it into a full-length album sound. Pollen is Tennis on some very nice, light edibles.
"Let's Make A Mistake Tonight" sees Tennis embracing a very detuned, sequin disco soul sound, like the music your parents/grandparents (idk how old you are) probably listened to while cruising down the country side streets with their old camper on the way to their honeymoon destination. "Pollen Song" is like laying in a field of flowers and feeling the soil underneath you giving you a nice warm back massage.
This was a very solid effort to follow up a very stellar record in their discography. It doesn't come all too close; The best tracks here feel like Swimmer B-sides. Nevertheless, Tennis very much retains the talent to write a golden melody that feels like it was a smash radio hit from 50 years ago. Still plenty to love here.

going…going…GONE! - Hemlocke Springs
Main Genres: Synth Pop, Indie Pop
A decent sampling of: Indietronica, New Wave, Zolo, Art Pop, Dance Punk
This is the EP that I wanted to shout out. I'm sure many of you TikTok savvy zoomer indie kids have already heard of Hemlocke Springs after "Girlfriend" exploded last year on the platform.
Tiktok as a music sharing platform seems to do be doing one of three things every time a song gets popular: a) it's boosting some talentless influencer hack making music designed to be memeable and forgotten a month later b) it's boosting already fairly popular indie songs from a few years ago to mega-popular status (look what it did to "Space Song"), or c) every now and then a fresh face with a lot of genuine talent is blessed by the algorithm and skyrockets them to early critical success.
Hemlocke Springs falls into the latter category. She deserves every bit of hype and the catapult to indie fame that she has received in the last year. Her music sounds like it's carrying the torch of Talking Heads, Jun Togawa, Marina And The Diamonds, Helen Love, and Javiera Mena all at once. She is one of the quirkiest, most colourful fun-loving pop artists to have emerged in a long time and I am HERE FOR IT.
After releasing a string of singles across the last two years, she finally dropped her debut EP going…going…GONE! in September earlier this year. It includes several of those singles plus some new cuts.
The aforementioned "Gilrfriend" is a stroke of genius, with zolo vocal weirdness over sugary girlish synthesizers, a killer fucking chorus, an energy that builds and builds across the entire track, and a ridiculously manic bridge that even trumps the chorus. I get giddy even just thinking about this track. It's no wonder it blew up; a pop song this good being part of an artist's debut rollout is almost unheard of.
"Heavun" is like a new wave glitter dream of flying through Akihabara with butterfly wings. "Enknee1" is an anthemic, longing plea for love set to baby-pink-tinged indietronica synths. "pos" is a goofy cut with bubbly mutant disco influences that makes me feel very light-headed.
I WISH she included "Sever The Blight" on this EP since it's arguably every bit as good as "Girlfriend". But for now, I'll just say that THIS is how you make your debut as an artist.
Hemlocke Springs is the hyper-imaginative, nerdy underdog hero that we all need right now. She really feels like she could be the next big thing that everyone in the music world could agree on. Keep this one on your radar - she's still only just cooking. Even greater things to come I'd bet.

ah yes the nightmare I got after watching too much mandela catalogue. sometimes my nightmares are about actual trauma but this one wasn't
I actually based a story in my object show after this dream it's probably spoilers to say who yet though
it starts with me leaving my house to go to a park up the street. I meet this girl there and we talk
we eventually go back to her house and I start playing mario kart 8 with her and her two siblings. I look in the hallway and I see her dad with his face melting so I freak out a little and she just looks at me with pity
so then I go in their kitchen where their mom was. the girl i made friends with whispers in my ear "prepare to run" so I get up and walk to the back door and as soon as i put my hand on the doorknob I look back and my friend looks at me with that same sad look as the mother's head does a complete 180 turn to look at me bone cracking sound and all and she's actually an alternate while the friends two siblings' faces start to melt like their dad's did
so I open the door and RUN down the street while the mother chases me I pass by several people whos faces all warp into alternates or they start melting
I finally make it to the road near my house but I hear her getting closer to me (she sounds like whispers telling me to die) and I eventually fall to my knees in my driveway and I try to crawl away thinking about my family. but she pushes me into the ground and my head explodes
so yeah uh. couldn't look at dark spaces much after that one lmao

OTP Ask Meme (Impatient Edition) YohaRiko
Again, I know the point of these things is to wait for followers to Ask questions from the list, but reading though this one got me thinking too much. About all of my flagships. And I wanted to answer all of the questions. And not wait for a handful to maybe be asked.
Anyway, credit again goes to @lonelypond for this version coming across my dash. Reblog that version if you want to do this thing correctly.
Also, just because I’ve already answered these here, I’ve expanded on some for various reasons and left others short if I believe the reasons are obvious. So if you still want to do the whole interactive thing, you can still ask for clarification or whatever.
And finally, there will be spoilers ahead for Happy Life, and to a lesser degree the AU, both for scenes I’ve written and posted, as well as some that remain in my Notes and WIP Warehouse. I’ll try to remember to link to the chapters mentioned.
1. Who wakes up first?
Riko. Yohane is very much not a morning person, especially after a late night of streaming.
2. Who wants to stay in bed just a little longer?
Yohane. See above. However, if she doesn’t have time commitments for the day, Riko may occasionally want to stay in bed for some activities other than sleeping.
3. Who takes longer getting ready?
Either, though they are fond of getting ready together and helping one another, so in these cases, they’re done at the same time.
4. When they can’t sleep, what do they do?
Yohane has many rituals for inducing sleep involving all manner of meditation, incense, herbal tea, topical rubs, nightmare wards and more. Whether or not they work is up to debate, but Riko is comforted by the sentiment, as portrayed in Dream Warden. Yohane herself takes comfort from being near those she loves, particularly Riko, while she sleeps.
5. Who falls asleep while watching a movie?
Yohane, though it depends on the type of movie.
6. Who falls asleep last, watching the other with a small affectionate smile?
More often Riko, though Yohane does enjoy watching a sleeping Riko from time to time.
7. Who comes up with the cheesy pick-up lines?
Yohane. 100% Yohane. And she is well aware of how cheesy they are. And she knows how much Riko loves them.
8. Who gets extremely competitive playing Mario Kart?
Yohane gets competitive over games in general.
9. Who accidentally pushes a door instead of pulling?
Yohane is more likely to do so, though Riko can be absentminded on occasion.
10. Who sets the other’s ringtone to something loud and obnoxious behind their back?
Yohane.
11. Who rearranges the bookshelf/DVD shelf in alphabetical order?
Both have their reasons for their particularness in displaying their shelving; Riko likes to be able to quickly locate her favorite doujin while Yohane is considerate of the background for her ritual streams.
12. Who does the hands-over-the-eyes “Guess Who” thing?
Yohane. With as many different attempts at different voices and accents as she can.
13. Who points out a dog when they see one?
Early on, both, though for different reasons; Yohane out of excitement and Riko out of fear. Later, Yohane retains her excitement while Riko becomes more lax in her reactions.
14. Who’s prone to road rage?
Yohane.
15. Who’s prone to wearing socks indoor (or to sleep)?
Either
16. Who reminds the other to put on sunscreen before going to the beach (or pool)?
Yohane knows she burns easily and is pretty good at remembering, though Riko is mindful that her girlfriend can be careless at times.
17. Who carries all the important documents while traveling?
Riko.
18. Who gets the window seat?
Probably Yohane. Likely accompanied by some statement about missing being able to fly under her own power.
19. Who puts their cold hands/feet on the other?
Yohane.
20. What do they argue about the most?
Early after moving in together, Yohane had a bad habit of bringing home stray pets, despite it being against the policy of the apartment complex, as depicted in Hibagon. These arguments subsided once the policy was changed, as depicted in Phobetor.
21. Who’s clumsier?
Yohane, though Riko certainly has her moments.
22. Who texts more often?
Yohane.
23. Who is better with kids?
Yohane is better at keeping kids entertained with her antics while Riko is better at tending to their care, be it feeding them, calming them down when they’re upset or applying first aid; Yohane is pretty good with first aid as well, having had far too much practice on herself.
24. Who’s the better cook?
Debatable. As I mentioned in the Notes for A Roost for Weary Wings, Yohane is capable of producing higher quality results, but also fails more spectacularly. Riko may lack the skills and confidence to produce highly extravagant meals, but she is far more consistent in producing edible food.
25. Who mistakes salt for sugar?
Riko. Despite what one may assume from my prior answer. Yohane will still eat it, not only because she has a strange sense of taste, but also because her beloved Riri made it for her and she will be damned before letting it go to waste.
26. Who puts the fork in the microwave?
Possibly Yohane.
27. Who cooks at 2 in the morning?
Yohane.
28. Who lets the microwave play the loud beeping sound at 1 a.m.?
Definitely Yohane.
29. Who licks the spoon when they’re baking brownies?
Yohane. She’ll even bring her own spoon, as depicted in Valentine’s Taste Test.
30. Who likes doing the dishes?
Riko doesn’t mind it. Yohane dislikes it but is willing to balance the workload after Riko cooked.
31. Who has bigger cravings? What are they?
For food, especially exotic or exceptionally spicy food? Yohane. Although she does have a bit of a sweet tooth, as her favorites would imply. For enacting scenes from her favorite doujinshi with her girlfriend? Riko.
32. Who remembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant?
Both, though for slightly different reasons. Riko believes it is romantic to know certain things about one’s partner. Yohane believes it is the duty of a fallen angel to know such things about their little demons… or fellow angels?
33. How do they eat ice cream? What’s their favorite flavors?
Yohane will often eat too fast and give herself a headache. Her favorite flavors are those of her favorite foods, chocolate and strawberry. Riko eats slower, more often out of a sundae dish than a cone, in part because a dish is better for eating at her pace, but also because it’s easier for Yohane to “steal” a bite or two. She enjoys Yohane’s favorites, but is also fond of mint and vanilla.
34. Do they go on dates? What are they like?
Absolutely. Riko prefers going to museums or orchestra performances, though she has dragged Yohane to several doujin stores over the years. Yohane prefers higher energy environments like amusement parks, though she has dragged Riko to several gothic Lolita clothing stores and occult shops over the years. Both girls look forward to events like Comiket.
35. What do they smell when they smell Amortentia?
Riko smells the slightly sulfuric scent of boiling eggs her parents made often while she was growing up, the clean, salty air of Uchiura, and a spicy, sweet and earthy scent to which she cannot match a specific memory. Yohane smells sweet black lilies, the lingering smoke from a myriad of incense that always permeates occult shops, and a spicy, sweet and earthy scent to which she cannot match a specific memory.
The last scent for both is an idea I had while Googling random stuff for this question. It’s basically how one website describe the smell of Dragon’s Blood resin when burned as incense. I want to bring it up in a scene or two in both HL and HL(AU), though there will be a difference between the kinds found here on Earth and up in Heaven, which may end up as a minor connecting plot point.
I realize this leaves Riko without something that she knows is directly related to Yohane, but I was trying to avoid using incense too much, as it already had three entries between them. Also, it technically is related to Yohane, she just doesn’t realize it right away. I’m hoping whatever I write someday will make that connection for her. Not that she’ll ever smell Amortentia in HL, but…
36. Which one is the secret snuggler?
It’s no secret that Yohane loves her snuggles. Riko is quieter about her desires, but can be quite insistent, nonetheless.
37. Which one offers their jacket to the other when they complain they feel cold?
Riko. Yohane is far more vocal about her discomfort, especially when it comes to temperature.
38. Who reaches for the other one’s hand while driving?
Riko is more likely to do so, though Yohane might as well. That said, I don’t believe I have them owning a vehicle in HL, so this probably won’t come into play anytime soon in my works.
39. Who leaves little notes in the other one’s lunch?
Riko, as the more consistent cook of the pair, she is more likely to make their lunch bentos for the day. (Bonus: What does it say?) Casual reminders of her love for her Yocchan.
40. Who is the most affectionate?
Both are quite affectionate, though Yohane is far more likely to initiate, especially in public though even in private.
41. Who is the big spoon/little spoon?
Riko is most often the big spoon. Though Yohane might try to have one believe elsewise.
42. What is their favorite feature of their partner?
Riko loves Yohane’s smile when she is passionate about something, be it her streams or games or whatever. Yohane loves the way Riko’s fingers dance across the keyboard.
43. What is the first thing that changes when they realize they have feelings for the other?
Yohane becomes increasingly aware of Riko’s behavior and attitude toward Chika and has to make a conscious effort to avoid holding anything against the idol group’s leader; she likes Chika as a friend, after all, and is thankful that she brought her into the group in the first place. Riko starts to include Yohane in her fantasies.
44. What are their nicknames for each other?
Yocchan and Riri
45. Who worries the most? Over what?
Riko is constantly concerned that Yohane’s abysmal luck will eventually cause her actual harm, as in more than just catching a cold or getting a scrape or small cut. Yohane also fears that her abysmal luck will adversely affect Riko.
46. Who initiates kisses?
Yohane all the time, in public and in private. Riko, in private.
47. Who says I love you first? How did it happen?
Yohane said it first in Revelations.
48. Who tells their friends/family about their relationship first?
That’s actually a good question. I haven’t decided yet for this ship. I mean I have plans for revealing that the blonde Mari knows, but as for the couple actually telling people… hrm… Off the top of my head, I’d be more likely to say Yohane.
49. What do they do when they’re away from each other?
Both are quite capable of entertaining themselves without the other. Riko can play the piano and Yohane can play her games until their fingers cramp if they are not actively doing something together. And they have Phobetor and Prelude to pet and take on walks and play with. It’s not until bedtime that they become more aware of the other’s absence.
50. Who gets overwhelmed by small acts of kindness?
Depends. Yohane is more the emotional rollercoaster and could easily be overwhelmed by kindness from the girl for whom she held a one-sided crush for far too long. Riko is also likely to moved, though more through something that fits into some trope she loves in her doujin; good thing Yohane can be quite genre-savvy when she wants.

Morgan Stark is five years old when she learns that, no matter how much her Daddy loves her, he still won’t come back home.

Morgan Stark is eight years old the first time she enters death’s realm.
(’Enters’ might be a bit of a stretch. She crashes head-first into one of the old memorial stones filled with names of the ones who faded, the ones who came back, cracks her head open on Kacey Lin and probably leaks blood and brain juice all the way down to Su Lin. She probably should’ve let one of the grown-ups take a look at the modifications she’s made on her kart, but Morgan wanted to win the race and she’s very smart. Everyone keeps saying so. Besides it’s not that bad. She never liked those stupid memorial stones anyways.)
[Morgan has no concept of dead beyond that that’s where Daddy is, and nobody alive really knows what it’s like. Not even the Returned. Believe me, Morgan asked. Some of the really old people -- like Mrs. Danielle who is way older than Mom -- call it��‘heaven’. It makes Morgan think of soft, fluffy clouds and lots of white and angel wings.
Real death is nothing like that, but that’s okay. Morgan is old enough now -- eight and three months already -- to know that clouds aren’t actually soft and fluffy, no matter how comfortable they look from afar.
Besides she doesn’t think Daddy would like sitting on clouds and watching them all from afar all day. He’d be bored and Morgan hates being bored.
Real death is like when Morgan was really little and used to sneak out of bed to quietly climb down the stairs and watch Daddy make numbers and pictures appear in the air like magic -- only better because science. Morgan is smiling as she slowly sits down on the second last step and she doesn’t even wonder why her head doesn’t hurt and her left arm stopped aching and her knees aren’t scraped bloody.
Because there’s her dad, humming under his breath as he adjusts a screw on DUM-E -- the one that always gets loose, no matter how often Daddy or Morgan fix it because DUM-E likes the attention -- and Morgan doesn’t understand why she’s crying.
She must have made a sound because suddenly Daddy whirls around like so many other times that have become blurry and unfocused over time. Only he doesn’t smile down at her, doesn’t lift her up in his arms and carries her back to bed and it hurts.
Daddy drops the screwdriver instead. He’s pale, stark-white -- and Petey would giggle at that because Petey loves stupid jokes even though he’s supposed to be all adult and serious now -- and trembling.
“Morgan?” he asks shakily, like maybe he isn’t sure if he’s dreaming. (Like maybe he isn’t sure if he’s having a nightmare.)
Morgan has listened to recordings of her Dad almost daily for years, but it’s different somehow, to hear his voice for real. No matter how good the quality, a recording isn’t the same. She hadn’t realized until this moment that she’s forgotten how her Dad sounds for real.
Then she’s in his arms, warm and secure and close, and she’s forgotten this too, forgotten how much she misses it, but Morgan doesn’t care because Daddy is here, finally, and nothing else matters.
“Oh Maguna, what are you doing here?” Daddy murmurs into her hair and pulls her closer.]
Morgan Stark is eight when she wakes up next to one of the stupid memorial stones with a murderous headache, blood caked down half her face, seven new ideas to improve her kart and the knowledge that her dad is fine and within reach and loves her, three thousand, always nestled deep beneath her sternum, where nothing can touch it.
(Mom screams when she sees Morgan and insists on taking her to the hospital, even though she’s obviously fine, mutters “just like your father,” under her breath and Morgan can’t stop smiling.)

when they were growing up it was always a gamble over who’d be taller bc they were so close

when they were teens they had this huge fight because roman was playing and singing his music too loud on a day when logan was experiencing sensory overload, so logan blew up at him and roman didn’t know why so it was just them yelling for a while
logan tried to explain it after he cooled down but it took a while for roman to fully grasp the concept

roman has a thing where he’ll wander into logan’s room while lo is working and flop down on his bed
logan just ignores him
one time when roman did this he fell asleep and logan, being a lil shit, didn’t wake him up until after dinner, so not only was his food cold, but roman was also stuck on dishes duty

more and more elaborate schemes to hide the crofter’s

roman used to get lots of nightmares as a kid so they slept in the same room for a while until he was able to slowly transition back to his room

oh boy do they fight over bathroom time
logan hates flying (lowkey terrified of it) bc of sickness a few too many times during turbulence so now the only thing that helps (besides maybe gravol) is having roman sit next to him
ever since they’ve started going to each other for school help their grades have improved substantially
they may not necessarily be twins but they Have the Same Face so their teachers Always get them mixed up, even when they’re not in the same class (glasses and diff personalities be damned)

Well, I apologize if the images look too edgy or cingey. This is one of my first posts as an actual cosplay blogs. Trigger warning (death, mental illness, generally depressing content) and Marble Hornets spoiler warning. Enjoy.
Brian Headcanons
He hides his face more often then the others, and he has a reason for it.
He hardly looks any different than when he was a college student. Tim and Jay both look much rougher and more aged, but he still looks like himself. It brings up a lot of mixed emotions, mostly making him feel like he shouldn’t be allowed to look so normal or feel like this isn’t real. It doesn’t do good things for his mental state.
Brian sees himself as having done the worst things out of the proxies, but has no real scars or marks to show for it.
Even Tim has a looks of his face all the time like, “Don’t fuck with me,” but Brian always looks like an injured puppy, and he hates it. He hates himself for everything he’s done and having an innocent face just feels dishonest.
Another thing, is that his eyes are always a bit dull, and his voice is uneven and cracks. So, he tends to hide and be quiet, especially out in public. He doesn’t want to have to talk to anyone, so he tends to try to stay unnoticed.
Also, Marble Hornets is still on YouTube. Most people assume it’s fictional, but he’s worried that if he talks too much to someone about it, they’ll somehow tell that he’s lying and that it isn’t.
He likes some video games. Mostly just Little Nightmares Bendy and the Ink Machine, but he loves watching people battle it out in Mario Kart. He doesn’t play against others, but would definitely be one of the finalists if he did.
He enjoys sweets, especially chocolate, cake, and muffins.
Cannot stand cigarettes. He’s pretty used to the smell by now because of Tim, but he hates the taste and will not smoke.
He also doesn’t like smoking pot, but will take a green brownie from time to time.
He’s a precious little gay bean. That’s how he is here, at least. More on that now...
He cares about Tim a lot, but with everything that’s going on and everything he’s done, doesn’t think it’s really a good idea to act on it. He’s worried Tim hates him, and can’t blame him if he does.
There’s also a lot of things Tim has done that Brian hated. It’s not enough to make him hate Tim, but for a while, he was hurt. He doesn’t feel excused for everything he did, though, and he hardly even cares about it anymore.
In all reality, Brian was always doing what he had to. Either he had no say in it, or he thought it was best. Most of the time, he was being controlled. Afterwards, he’d follow orders in hopes that maybe he could help keep Jay and Tim out of too much trouble. He didn’t think Jay would end up dead because of him. He only thought about Tim needing backup against Alex. It didn’t go as planned.
As far as morality goes, he’s pretty neutral.
He’ll do dirty that Tim won’t/can’t. He doesn’t enjoy it in the slightest, and can barely hold up mentally, but he’s afraid of what will happen if Tim disobeys enough orders. He can hardly stand seeing him hurt, let alone risk losing him.
He’s quick and efficient with assassinations. He doesn’t want to look anyone in the eyes. It’s one of the reasons why his mask doesn’t have clear holes for the eyes. The red fabric doesn’t hide everything, but it helps him not see the sadness in someone’s eyes, or the darkness that sets in as they die.
Every day is another round. Every day is more bad things he has to do. Every day is him protecting the ones around him while innocent people pay the price. Every day, his pain and self-hatred grow. Every day, he grows colder and more absent from the world, so he doesn’t have to feel the guilt of what he takes from it.
He has the biggest heart, but it was quickest to blacken.
