Ok I also explored where my bisa and my tío and my cousins lived. I’ve never looked at a map or had their addresses but I do have a good sense of direction and a freaky memory for layouts and I think I found everyone’s homes and you can bet I’ve been absolutely weeping about every single one
#tío Juan turned his irrigation pool into a swimming pool. and you can tell cos it’s higher up and a funny shape#and he had a small amount of land for his goats and chickens etc#and a bigggg pine tree#and the garage was under the balcony#anyway I found that. I just clicked the local castle and searched the surroundings for land that matched#it’s definitely 100% his home#and my cousin lived very very close I remember the road to it doesn’t seem like a real road and you have to go through a tiny underpass#but he renovated a very old water mill. with no water. and it also has a lot of land#Also for his goats and pigs and dogs and cats#and cos it’s a unique building I found it easily#my other cousin was harder to find. I didn’t go there as often. they came to us more or met us at another house#but I remember it was higher up and at the end of a path#and there was a gate and some land to the left#I THINK I found it. almost everything matches up but the outside of the building looks a little different hmmmm#also I found my bisa’s flat. but it’s been the longest since we were there#cos she sold it and moved in with us when she got old#and all those flats near the beach look the same#but this one seems to have a hollow between buildings and there’s a square a little further up and I’m pretty sure that’s it#anyway I’m. im feeling better#being with my Spanish family is the only time I’ve ever ever felt loved#THEYRE all saved to my favourites now#Juan died a long while ago but my cousin Pablo lives there now#and he works the land and has a produce business#I need to go back I really do#Also . my snooping skills are incredible to figure this all out. obviously#same with finding my abuelas village#it’s so small it’s unmarked i just had to keep looking for groups of buildings until I found the right one#then I checked with her and I was right#my old town ik as well as where I live now so that was fine

How’s it going? Thinking of you
Hmmm it’s going, thanks for asking 🖤.
The day shift (7am-3pm) 1:1 ended on Friday but like mid shift. Over the weekend it was so nice at 7am to shut my door and be able to actually sleep without the door open. Albeit I’m still on 5’s but the towel on the door makes it harder to hear it open so often.
Yesterday she took off the night shift 1:1 (11pm-7am) so now I’m only on the 1:1 during the evening shift. She was going to take me off it all together but this afternoon I’m seeing my mother…
So a little back story:
My mother lost custody of me when I was 2. My Nana and my Aunt raised me. My Aunt was like my mother figure. My Nana was always the stern one, always angry, never was the lovey dovey type. She loved/loves me and is so supportive but there was just never that maternal love. My Aunt on the other hand.. we’d watch tv on the couch and my head would be in her lap and she’d brush my hair back. She passed away when I was 19. I watched her take her last breath and then afterward I climbed onto the bed with her and took her dead hand and brushed my hair back one last time. Morbid huh?
Anyways growing up my Nana (who had legal custody of me) allowed me to try to have a relationship with my mother. It started out with exchanging Christmas gifts in the car then being able to go out for the day with my mother. Which my mother took advantage of and decided to sneak me to her one room place (literally just a room). Of course as a kid I was going to do whatever she thought was right. And I remember it was nice during the Summer not having to find places in town to cool off or use the bathroom. Doesn’t sound that bad right? Except this place was crawling with cockroaches. And when I would shy away from them she’d scold me cause I was making her boyfriend “feel bad”.
Years later she moved to my town and got an actual apartment and I would visit and stay overnight. It was then that I realized she was still using drugs, the reason she lost custody of me. My mother being out of her mind, thought that after all those years I would want to live with her. It was then that she started talking badly about my Nana and Aunt, the people I went home to. They never talked badly about her. They let me see and find out the type of person she was for myself and that was when was I decided to cut off contact with her for good.
That was, I think the summer after my freshman year of high school, so I was maybe 15 years old. Fast forward to winter of 2013/2014 and my mother was living with her sister/my Aunt and my cousin. Our mothers are sisters and my Aunt who raised me was adopted. Funny how the good ones die. My cousin had a baby in November 2013 and I spent so much time at her house that a winter. Naturally I’d have to see my mother and exchange a few words. One day I called her by her first name instead of mom, and she replied with so much anger and hatred “Donna? They trained you well”. To which I said “they? My real mother is dead”. And she replied in a completely opposite tone “I know baby, I’m so sorry about Auntie, I wish it was me instead”. That back and forth emotion was just too much.
That’s the last real conversation I remember. And that was about 10 years ago.
I’m seeing her later. Here. At the hospital... Last week I was talking to my doctor and I said “can you imagine if my mother came here as a patient” and she said “I think your mom should come here, for a visit”. I laughed. She said she was serious. I thought about it for a second and replied with seriousness that I’d think about it. Which didn’t take much thinking. I’m on a 1:1, I’ve been in the hospital for almost 6 months. I’ve thought about it before, reaching out, trying to have a conversation and see what happens. So why not do it here? I’m in a safe place surrounded by idiots that care about me.
This just goes to show just how much I like my doctor for me to have agreed to this. Even though I just said how I was thinking about it before, it’s been a while since I wondered about it and definitely did not think it would happen in here.
It’ll be good to get this over with but I am petrified it’s going to set me back.

Greedfall - #9 - Tossing And Turning
*
Every time Vasco thought he might nod off, De Sardet’s restlessness jostled him back to full consciousness.
He tried to ignore it, but after nearly an hour of his incessant tossing and turning, he finally sat up. “De Sardet?”
“Did I wake you?” He was instantly still. “I apologize, Vasco. Just trying to get comfortable. Go back to sleep.”
This was not the first time they’d shared a bed. De Sardet was hardly ever this restless. He was usually quick to slip off to sleep, given how busy he was during the day.
“What’s wrong?” Vasco asked, daring to put a hand on De Sardet’s arm.
De Sardet shifted again, but didn’t pull his arm away. “Nothing. Just sore from that fight earlier. It’s hard to get comfortable. I’m sorry I woke you.”
He’d gotten battered around a bit in the fight earlier, but not much. It was a decent attempt at a lie, but Vasco didn’t buy it.
“De Sardet,” he said, trailing his hand down De Sardet’s arm to his hand, grabbing it and squeezing it. “You don’t have to tell me if you don’t wish to. But please don’t lie to me.”
His hand went stiff. In the darkness, it was hard to make out his face, but Vasco could see the way it scrunched up in mild despair.
“I…Yes, I apologize. You deserve better than that. Really, though, I’m alright,” De Sardet said. “Please go back to sleep, Vasco. I’ll just go for a walk and come back to bed when I’m a bit steadier.”
“You always shoulder your burdens alone,” Vasco said, leaning forward and kissing his shoulder. “I respect your privacy, but I wish you’d stop putting so much on yourself.”
It was silent for a long time, De Sardet just holding Vasco’s hand. His feet still shifted restlessly, but he did not leave the bed.
“Constantin,” he said at last, his voice quiet. “I can’t stop worrying over him.”
Vasco shifted, pulling De Sardet into his arms. De Sardet came willingly against his chest.
“We may find a cure,” Vasco said, but he was careful not to put too much promise in his voice.
“I watched it take my mother. She will die without me at her side. I cannot leave Constantin to the same fate. He is to me closer than a brother,” he said.
“De Sardet, you are doing everything you can for him. You cannot blame yourself for any of this. The malichor…it is a horrible illness, and one that no man can control. That it befell your cousin is no fault of yours,” Vasco said.
“I know. And that…makes it harder.” He gave a small shudder in Vasco’s arms. “I want to be angry. But there is no one to blame.”
“I understand,” Vasco said softly, because he did, he really did. He knew the torment of being so desperately angry with nothing to direct that anger at. With no outlet, it festered inside you, choking you, burning you out from inside.
He wished De Sardet did not have to suffer so. But just as there was nothing De Sardet could do to cure Constantin, there was nothing Vasco could do to take that anger from De Sardet.
“I’m sorry,” De Sardet said. “I am just tired, Vasco. I didn’t mean to put all of that on you.”
“I wish you would more often.” Perhaps, then, there was something he could do. “I am always here to listen, De Sardet. I will give what comfort I can. But perhaps your heart will not be so heavy if you stop holding those pains inside you.”
He finally embraced Vasco, resting his forehead against Vasco’s shoulder. “Thank you, Vasco. Thank you.”
It would not cure Constantin. It would not prevent the inevitable fate that awaited him, and that had probably already befallen De Sardet’s mother.
But if being a shoulder to lean on and a person to trust with such pain was all Vasco could offer, then offer it he would. He held De Sardet in the darkness, tightening that hold as the restless movements of his legs started up, the inability to act festering against his own will.
No, it would not be an easy path they had to walk. But there was no other. The best they could do was search for a cure. De Sardet would offer Constantin what comfort he could, and Vasco would offer De Sardet what comfort he could, and maybe, just maybe, they would not be in pieces at the end.

I know this makes me sound so bitter and so selfish and so horrible but I’m running out of smiles to give people
I’m running out of enthusiasm for others finding love. I’m running out “oh my gosh I’m so happy for you!!”
It’s always just me. I don’t have anyone else. No one to message if I go to hospital. No one to visit me. No one to say they love me and how happy they are they found me.
Always going alone to family functions. Having no one to bring to family or friends weddings.
Hell I got invited to a wedding that I couldn’t even bring myself to go to because I knew I would just break down there and I didn’t want to ruin it.
I know my cousin is getting married next year and I don’t know how I’m going to do it.
I came out when I was young but I don’t feel like I’ve had youthful gay experiences. Not really. The only proper relationship I was in didn’t even last one month. I have no proper experiences with love. No foundation.
I feel so stupid for holding onto something I had when I was 19 at 23.
I don’t want to be bitter and jealous. I don’t want other people’s love to make me sad.
But I am and it does. That’s just how it is. I’m bitter. I’m jealous. I’m lonely. I’m getting to the point where I can’t think rationally around couples because I’ll just crying or my mind will go “at least you have someone!!!”
My brain shuts off in therapy or mental health related things because my brain has just decided it doesn’t want information from those that have love. That’s how vile I’ve become. And I don’t want to be that way. I don’t. I try not to be.
But it hurts so much. It makes me illogical. I often wish I could just be with anyone , maybe that would fix things. But I can’t. Because I’m stupid and ugly and I’m picky !! What right do I have to be picky. But I am. I’m damn picky.
Time moves so much quicker then when I was in high school. And it makes me so terrified of ageing . Because I feel like as each day passes it’s going to be harder and harder and more and more people are going to find love and I just won’t be able to.
And I hate myself so much for it. I hate myself for how many tears I cry out of the pain of my loneliness

Kyotani couldn’t stand you. Your annoying smile and indifferent attitude while he told you to get lost. Couldnt you take a hint? Apparently not as you continued to greet him the same warm way every time you saw him, slipping him notes during class and flirting with him. Couldnt you flirt with some other poor soul? he couldn’t handle it anymore, knowing you weren’t really flirting with him. Maybe you did flirt with others, that only made it worse, knowing it wasn’t just him who got to see your smile and teasing laugh everyday. Honestly he didn’t know which way was worse, all he knew was that he was sick of you.
It started at practise, he was used to Oikawa’s fan girls attending their practise just to ogle at the captain, that always annoyed him but he soon found you to be worse. Oikawa has tossed him a ball to spike down and you started cheering for him. He whipped his head around to see you smiling brightly down at him, waving. He was taken back, his scowl dropping for a minute as the tips of his ears turned red before he continued on with practise, trying to ignore your cheers everytime he spiked. You trailed behind him to the school date, chatting on about your day and how amazing Kyo’s spikes were while he just grunted and continued walking in front of you, trying to speed up. Every time he sped up, you did too, he wasn’t sure if you were just stupid or if you didn’t care that he was trying to get away from you but either way it confused him.
Since then you’d follow him around, having one sided conversations with the back of his head on the way to the gym, in between classes and sometimes even during lunch times when you weren’t with your friends. He wished you wouldn’t flirt so much, it was the worst part of your whole fan girl act. You’d compliment his hair, his spikes and his eyes often, it came out so naturally that it made him tense up and pause every time, trying to calm down the beating of his heart in his ears. Why couldn’t you just stick to fangirling over Oikawa? Kyotani could take you following him and talking about your day if it wasn’t for the flirting act. He even liked hearing about your day, it was cute to hear you ramble on until you decided to give him false hope with your remarks, sometimes even trying to hold his hand or rest your head on his shoulder.
~
It had been a few months now and you weren’t sure what to do. You were in a small cafe with your cousin Iwaizumi, opting to seek out the spiker for advice as a last resort.
“I don’t know Iwa, i’ve been flirting with him for months and coming to all your games to cheer him on and he doesn’t even look at me” you fiddling with your fork, huffing out dramatically.
“We’ll have you actually told him you like him or asked him to hang out?” you glared at his condescending tone
“I shouldn’t have to tell him! I don’t know how much more obvious i can get...plus i ask him to have lunch with me all the time” you sighed, feeling your heart sink. You’d thought that he didn’t like you, it was obvious at first that he found you irritating but overtime you thought he’d warm up. Maybe you were just being stupid, setting yourself up for heartbreak at your inevitable rejection. Still, you held on tight to the tiny bit of hope you still had.
“hey.” Iwa waved his hand in front of you, pulling you from your thoughts “I mean surely him ignoring you can’t get any worse if you actually confess right? Plus maybe i’m wrong and he does like you so you’ll actually make some progress” you hummed in agreement, though you were hesitant
“How am i supposed to confess though? He doesn’t even look at me when we talk, well, i talk..” you realised just how pathetic you sounded, how desperate. Was this how Oikawa’s fan girls felt? Ignorantly hopeful for someone who was out of reach? Well at least Oikawa spoke to his fan girls...
“Y/n...not to sound rude or anything, but why do you like this kid? He’s not exactly treating you very well..” you looked up at your cousin who was looking at you with eyes full of concern.
“Well he may not seem like the sweet type but i’ve seen him when he’s alone, he’s really cute when he doesn’t look like he’s on the warpath, plus i think he’s just shy around me and doesn’t know how to act around others, he’s sweet though, he doodles in his notebooks. Also, he’s really passionate about volleyball! i remember the first time i saw him spike, he actually smiled!” you giggled at the memory, blushing at the thought of Kyo.
“Whatever y/n, you need to confess before i do it for you.” you gasped in feign shock “You wouldn’t dare iwa-chan~” you laughed at Iwaizumi’s enraged expression “Stop hanging out with Oikawa ugh” you laughed at him, sipping on your hot chocolate you’d forgotten about.
~
Kyotani had woken up earlier than usual, deciding to go for a walk. While he was walking his mind drifted back to you, looking behind him half expecting you to be there talking his ear off about random things, making him blush with your flirting. It was cruel how you could flirt with him so shamelessly and not mean it. He so badly wanted you to mean it. He grunted in frustration, picking up his pace until he was running, he was running past a few shops and cafes when he saw you. You were sitting by the window as the sun hit you, his eyes widened, you truly were so pretty to him. He almost stopped running until he saw who you were looking at, Iwaizumi was there. Of course you’d be on a date with him, he was so strong and open. You deserved someone like Iwaizumi he supposed, someone who could actually talk to you, someone who was better than him. He continued running despite feeling his own heart in his throat, making it harder to breathe.
~
“I’m not writing him a letter Iwa.” you rolled your eyes at his suggestion, looking out the window to see a familiar head of blonde flash past in a blur. “Iwa! He just ran past” you stood up from your seat excitedly, smile crossing your face. “Wow you’re worse than i thought. Y/n, you’re a simp.” You weren’t even offended at his words “i mean can you blame me?” you sat back down, “Yes y/n, yes i can. You probably want to go after him right now” although he was joking he looked up to see you staring back at him hopefully. “Oh my god y/n, fine! Go. I’ll see you at school tomorrow. “ You got up and hugged Iwa squeeling, “Thank you thank you, if i don’t come to school tomorrow i’m either crying about being rejected or on a date with my handsome boyfriend, bye!” “Do not skip school y/n!” Iwa yelled after you as you ran out of the cafe, heading down the same path Kyo took.
As you passed by a park, you noticed Kyotani sitting under a tree, panting heavily. “Kyo!” You called out, smiling brightly as you made your way over to him, ignoring the frustrated frown on his face. “What” he gruffly replied, clearly annoyed but you were ecstatic to get a reply from him. “I actually wanted to tell you something!” It’s now or never you thought, this was a perfect time to do it, you were ready for either response, you waited for him to look up at you before continuing.
“Um, i haven’t really thought of what to say so i’m just going to say it, i like you. I was wondering if you wanted to go out with me? You don’t have to of course but i really wanted you to know” you played with your hands while you waited for him to say something, silence was not what you expected but- “are you serious right now?” he was angry?, you tilted your head to the side “of course, i’m surprised you didn’t already kn-” “What is wrong with you? First you follow me around everywhere, flirting with me and annoying the fuck out of me, now this? haven’t you played around enough? Honestly i didn’t think you’d take it this far, that’s just low y/n.” the tone in his voice was enough to have you back away a little, confusion covered your face, you definitely hadn’t anticipated this kind of response. Despite your heart sinking at the rejection, you couldn’t help but feel a little angry as well. Who was he to talk to you like that. “What the fuck are you talking about Kyo. A simple ‘Sorry i don’t feel the same’ would’ve sufficed, honestly this is the most you’ve ever said to me and it’s this?” He was taken back by your reaction. You were serious? “Why would you try confess to me while you were just on a date then huh?” you furrowed your brows in confusion before it dawned on you, he thought you were dating Iwaizumi. Now you understood more of what he was saying, you opened your mouth to speak but he interrupted you. “Yeah, I saw. You can drop the act now it was very funny. Now you can fucking leave me alone and stop acting like Oikawa’s clingy fangirls. I’ll finally stop having to hear you yapping in my fucking ear all day.” he wasn’t expecting to look up and see tears rolling down your cheeks. “Iwaizumi is my cousin..” you whispered meekly before turning back in the direction of the cafe, running home.
Kyotani sat there dumbfounded. You were serious. He just called the girl he liked annoying and clingy after she tried to confess all because he was too insecure and jumped to conclusions. “Fucking idiot.” he cursed himself out under his breath.
~
He didn’t know what to do, he couldn’t sleep, every time he closed his eyes he just saw that heartbroken look on your face, eyes filled with tears. Because of him. He groaned before going to his desk, he begun to write a letter. The thought of you never coming to his games anymore, you never cheering for him again, telling him about your day and that new show you start, even the flirting, he knew he couldn’t get through the day without it. You weren’t annoying, you were the only person who managed to make him stop scowling, he was relaxed around you.
You walked into your first class, finding a letter on your desk. Your eyes flitted over to Kyo who was sitting a few seats away looking away nervously, you could see how red he was from here. You tucked the letter into your bag, he didn’t deserve your attention and you were determined to not talk to him or look at him anymore. Kyotani watched you put away his letter, he frowned, you’d probably just read it later. He didn’t want to get discouraged so he waited for you during lunch but you never came. He was getting antsy, it was so quiet. After his final classes he was excited to go to practise, getting there on time for once, only you weren’t there. Instead he was met with an angry Iwaizumi “what the fuck did you do to her!” he boomed, gaining the attention of everyone in the gym. Kyotani looked down, surprising everyone “where is she?” he asked quietly, Iwaizumi quirked his brow, crossing his arms over his chest. “She’s probably at home or the cafe.” Kyotani looked up, running out of the gym ignoring Oikawa’s calls to come back and train.
You were sitting in a booth at the cafe, scrolling on your phone when you remembered the letter. You opened it despite your hesitation and began reading.
Y/n,
I used to find you irritating, i couldn’t understand why someone as pretty as you would follow me around and talk to me when i was so cold to you. I took your flirting as you either making fun of me or just you having a flirtatious personality so i would get annoyed. About yesterday, i misunderstood completely and i’m so sorry for snapping at you. I never meant to lash out on you and i never wanted to. I was fed up with the person i liked toying with me and when i found out you liked me back i didn’t believe you.
I’m sorry for hurting you, if you let me be yours i swear i’ll never hurt you again. I never want you to cry because of me ever again, i like you too y/n and i’m sorry i was too much of a pussy to tell you sooner.
I hope you forgive me
-Kyotani.
You smiled at the letter, looking up at the sound of the cafe bell ringing to see Kyotani, out of breath staring at you. You smiled up at him like usual and he returned it, moving towards you quickly. “Kyo-“ he cut you off, smashing his lips against yours, his lips were gentle despite the desperate hold he had on you, cradling your head in one hand and gripping your collar in the other. You smiled against the kiss, cupping his cheek before pulling away. “Hi” you giggled as he sat down in front of you, holding your hand on the table “Hi” he smirked at you. “Y/n, can i take you to dinner?” you nodded happily “of course you can handsome~” he blushed furiously and this time you got to see, you cupped his cheek again, leaning over to kiss his cheek softly, only making it worse. “C’mon doll” he pulled you up, holding your hand as you exited the cafe, walking side by side as he intertwined your fingers, smiling down at you with a soft expression. How was he so blind?

— Hinata
This lil ball of sunshine was your everything. Since the day he held your hand when you were first introduced to a class filled with unfamiliar faces of kids the same age as you.
You were on the shy side and couldn’t muster up the courage to talk to others, so you kept to yourself. Your eyes would be filled with envy as you gaze at the children playing in the playground or at the sand pit, wanting to do the same. Tearing, you played with the hem of your skirt until you heard a voice.
“Hi, i’m Hinata, what’s your name?”
and since then two of you have been inseparable. You were there throughout all the milestones of his life. Cycling together, playing together, failing at tests together. You were there when he first fell in love with Volleyball, and you wished it was you he fell for.
Butterflies, would be how you would describe the way he makes you feel. Even after all the years of spending time with him, your heart races whenever he hugs you, and love would fill your eyes whenever you gaze at him.
It is a bittersweet feeling, on one hand, your feelings blossomed over the years and now as you’re older, you understand the depth of your feelings. On the other, it was knowing that Hinata would probably not see you in any other way except as his bestfriend.
This continues till the very last year of high school. Two years have flew past and soon the two of you might be going on very different paths, and deep in your heart, you knew that if you were to miss confessing to Hinata within the year, it would be something you will always regret.
But then she came. She was everything you weren’t, she was outgoing and bubbly, she was smart, talented and more importantly she was everything you knew Hinata loved in a girl.
As a new transfer student, she raised the attention of many but only Hinata reached out to introduce himself. More often than not, lunches that were spent with you were instead with her. Movie nights became lonely nights and everyday, you could only envy how she would be the first person he would greet in the morning.
You slowly retreated into your shell again. All you could think about, is how you missed your chance.
Not that you had one anyway.
Meanwhile, without you knowing, Hinata had already known the transfer student, especially when his mother had already told him to take good care of his distant relative.
With how Hinata would discreetly stare at you across the classroom and how he seems to always smile whenever talking about you, it didn’t take long for his cousin to tease him about his crush on you. He would blush whenever she mentions how pretty you were that day, but at the same time she was also helping Hinata plan his confession.
Hinata had loved you ever since you fell asleep on his shoulder during movie night in his first year of high school. Only then, he really paid attention to how beautiful of a woman you have become and without knowing, his pulse picked up.
You sigh, the bell rang about 5 minutes ago, signalling the end of school. You see Hinata rushing towards her, and your heart clenched painfully.
“shoyo-kun are you coming for movie night?” you ask hopefully. Hinata shakes his head and gives you a smile which makes your heart twist and beat harder at the same time.
“Sorry f/n-chan, i’m kinda busy today” You knew the answer, it was the third time in 3 weeks. You plastered on a fake smile and bowed to the both of them before leaving with a, “that’s fine, have fun!”
And as you leave, Hinata turns towards his cousin. “Ok time to begin operation confess to f/n-“ before he feels a hand smack the back of his head.
He grips at the back of his hand it’s both hands before whining, “hey, what was that for?”
“When’s the last time you and y/n-chan hangout? Have you been unintentionally ignoring her? oh my god” and Hinata bites his bottom lip, deep in thought.
The last time? when was the last time i hung out with with y/n. Beautiful, gorgeous f/n-chan...
and he remembered, it has probably been a month since he last went to movie night. Oh god, he messed up bad
Guilt filled his heart and he stilled. Shit
He immediately took off, taking the familiar road leading to your house. He rushes to your room, greeting your mom and excusing himself along the way. He just couldn’t wait
There you were, adorning his jersey that he had given to you to wear whenever you attend his game, and he couldn’t help but swoon mentally, just like all the times he has seen you in it.
“f/n-chan?” he asks softly
“shoyo-kun? what are doing here” you turn around eyes wide, “weren’t you going to go out with er her?”
he shakes his head, kneeling down on the floor and taking your hands in his. “f/n-chan i’m so sorry i just realised how long i’ve been neglecting you”
“shoyo-“
“wait, she’s my cousin, and she’s been helping me with something” your eyes widened even further but you keep your mouth shut to let him talk.
“i...i love you. Like really really love you, and i’ve been trying to find a way to confess to you and my cousin has been trying to help me” he says, head down.
At that moment, you threw your arms around his neck. Snuggling into the crook, trying to hide the tears of pain that you’ve been holding up.
“you silly orange, i love you too” his eyes twinkled with happiness as his toned arms wrap around your waist securely. he holds you as you cry in relief and happiness.
As you raise your head, he gently run his thumb over your cheek, like you were the only thing that mattered in the world. He kisses you softly, his hands on your waist while yours around his neck.

— Bokuto
he’s oblivious. You couldn’t blame the man, he’s the most outgoing not so little ball of pure angelic sunshine you’ve ever met.
The two of you became close friends after you agreed to help tutor him with some of his weaker subjects. It was one hell of a rollercoaster, getting to know him, talk to him, procrastinating with him- but all in all, it was the way he could smile even in the toughest of situation that made your heart race a little faster
It was also the way he would help you pack your things when you fell asleep in the library, the way he would always call out your name in the corridors and the way he lit up whenever he saw you.
And as you gaze at the new girl talking animatedly with Bokuto, your heart wrenches in an envious way.
you’d wished you were more pretty, more outgoing and more talkative. Maybe have the qualities Bokuto would find more attractive.
You let out a sigh, packed up your things and left.
It’s been weeks since you last heard from bokuto. Gone were the moments of admiring his adorable pout as he attempts to solve the trigonometry question in front of him, gone were the laughs the two of you shared in the library only to be scolded by the librarian.
You felt, alone. Jealous. jealous that you couldn’t be his.
However as you flipped through your books. You realised that someone had left a note
‘School rooftop, 5pm <3’ — salt and pepper
salt and pepper reminded you of him.
You glanced at the clock noticing it was almost five and it wouldn’t hurt to check out who gave you this note. So you packed up your things and lefts
The cooling air made you smile gently, the school rooftop always had a nice ambience to it. Instinctively you were able to recognise the person whose back was towards you.
his hair was a distinct white and black shade and he looked visibly tense, turning around to face you when you entered.
He was holding a bouquet of roses. And it hit you, the note must have been for the other girl, he probably slipped it into your book by mistake.
you bit your lip, heart swirling with pain but before you could say anything else, he started to talk.
With slow steps towards you, “y/n-chan, i’ve known you for almost two years now and i’ve been trying to convey my feelings towards you. I really really like you y/n-chan, because of so many reasons. Your kindness, your beauty, your intelligence, adorableness-“ and before he can finish, you’re running into his arms and hugging him tightly.
Bokuto’s eyes widens, but a large smile forms in his face as he hugs you back. A few drops of tears dropped as you leaned back. He sweeps them away with a gentle touch and smiles, “hey hey hey, don’t cry on me now” he said jokingly
you shake your head, “happy tears cuz i like you too kou-chan”
he giggles and presses his forehead against yours , “so you’re my baby from now on then?” he whispers
“please take care of me kou-chan”
Bokuto explains that during the time he didn’t soend with you, the new girl, his cousin was actually helping him confess to you while he helped her confess to Akaashi. Double score

My Sweet Rose, Chapter 1
From the imagine on imagine-Loki here.
Summary: Rosie got a job working at The Avengers tower with her cousin, Pepper. She’s only been there a week when Loki comes live there, to make up for his past deeds in New York. But this brings a lot of problems for Rosie.
Loki was her Daddy Dom. Who vanished one day without a word, leaving her completely broken and lost.
Note: Daddy/little dynamic & Flashbacks will be in Bold. I’m not sure how long this story will be, I’m thinking no more than 5 chapters though. But I saw the imagine and omg I love it, had to do something with it. Haven’t written anymore of it yet but just HAD to share the first chapter so far, oops! lol.
-
Rosie had been working and living in the Avengers tower for a week now, it was going really well. And it was helping to keep her mind occupied, getting her back on her feet after such a rough year.
She was a PA for Stark, and the other Avengers if they needed anything too. It was helping her cousin, Pepper out a lot. As Stark was very demanding nowadays and the others were becoming that way too.
It was also good for Rosie. She’d had a really tough year. She met someone a few years ago in a BDSM club, it had been her first time there after spending months building up the courage to go. She was a little, and had been wanting to find someone that she could feel safe with to explore that side of her.
She met a man, who was charming and handsome. Kind, funny. They fell in love, or so she thought anyway. He was the perfect Daddy Dom for her, teaching her everything and looking after her. She adored and loved him so much. Which is why when one day he just vanished, it was all the harder for her.
He just never returned after saying he had to go home to visit his family, who lived in Iceland apparently. But he did that regularly and always returned to her. But not that time. To say she was heartbroken when there was not even a call or a text from him explaining why was an understatement.
His name was Loki. And it became clear what happened a few months later after his disappearance, she saw him on the news. Loki, the God Of Mischief, was trying to take over the world. She couldn’t believe it and thought she was dreaming when she realised it had was her Loki. He looked different in the heavy armour, he looked scary.
But she thought no wonder he left her, he was a God and a Prince after all. What would he have wanted with her in the first place anyway?
She had tried a couple of times to date someone else, but never made it past the first date. As they just… weren’t him. No matter how often she tried to just forget about him. It was difficult.
She’d fallen into a downward spiral, not even able to go to work. So she had lost her job and was on benefits for a while. She became really anxious and nervous.
But here, in the tower, she was trying to turn herself around again. It had been one man, even if he had been her first true love, in her heart anyway. She knew she would heal, in time. Even if it had been over a year.
Rosie had been so engrossed in sorting out some paperwork for Tony that she never noticed the newcomer coming into the kitchen. She barely even registered Thor introducing her to him. ‘This is Rosie, our PA, she’s new here.’
Not until she heard an all too familiar voice responding that sent shivers down her spine and sent her heart racing.
‘Rosie… My sweet Rose?’
There was only one person who had ever called her that.
Slowly she looked up, eyes widening, standing before her was Loki.
‘Oh my sweet Rose, you’ve done Daddy so proud.’ Loki purred gently as he cradled her in his lap.
She felt so safe and secure, curled up against him as he wrapped a blanket around her naked body. Knowing how cold she always got after they’d played together quite so intensely.
Loki rocked her back and fore softly as he ran his fingers through her hair, soothing her. She was trembling a bit after her orgasms, Loki had pushed her almost past her limit, but he knew. He always knew when to stop at the right time.
He was an intense Daddy, and could be really strict at times. But he was fair and ever so kind. He had his goofy moments and was extremely playful too, which she loved. He was never angry with her, always calm and collected. Even when she misbehaved, not that that happened often.
She clung to his shirt so tightly, never wanting to let go. Loki had to carefully remove her hand from his shirt just so he could change them into a different position, getting them both under the blanket so he could have her snuggled up next to him. He knew she would fall asleep soon.
‘Daddy.’ She whispered quietly, sounding so vulnerable.
‘Yes, my little one?’ Loki asked, engulfing her small hand in his large one.
‘Can you sing to me?’
Loki smiled. ‘Of course, my sweetling.’
He began singing to her in Asgardian, but he had told her before it was Icelandic. She had no reason not to believe him, especially since he told her he’d grown up there with his parents.
But he had a beautiful voice, she always loved to hear him sing.
She felt so loved as he she drifted off to sleep to the sound of his voice. She faintly remembered a gentle kiss on her forehead just before she fell asleep.
Thor was confused at their interaction, especially as Rosie said nothing at first. Just stared at Loki in utter disbelief.
‘No…’ She shook her head and took a step backwards. ‘You… You don’t get to call me that anymore.’ She said quietly, her voice trembling as tears came to her eyes.
‘Rosie? What’s wrong, did he hurt you?’ Clint asked upon seeing the reaction.
Rosie grabbed the pile of paperwork off the table beside her and she ran off out of the kitchen, with tears falling down her face.
Clint turned to Loki. ‘You’ve got some explaining to do.’ He snapped at him.
‘I have nothing to explain to you, Hawk.’ Loki snarled.
Natasha and Pepper saw Rosie running out of the kitchen in floods of tears, they ran after her into her room. Natasha managed to grab the door before it closed on them.
‘Rosie? Rosie, what’s wrong?’ They both asked as they rushed in to her.
Rosie threw the papers on her bed and she started pacing back and fore, shaking and crying with her arms wrapped around herself. Pepper grabbed her and pulled her down to sit on the bed.
‘Rosie, please speak to us.’ She pleaded with her cousin as Natasha sat at the other side of her.
‘It… It’s him…’ She sobbed.
‘Who? Loki? Did he scare you? I told him not to be an asshole to anyone.’ Natasha said angrily.
‘He… He’s the one. Who I dated before.’ She blurted out, making Pepper and Natasha go silent in shock.
‘But… how?’ Pepper asked.
‘I met him one night in a club. And we dated for eleven months. I was in love with him, utterly and completely. I thought he was with me too. But then he just vanished and never came back one day. Then a few months later, I saw him on the TV… I didn’t tell anyone it was him, because I thought no one would believe me anyway. And what did it matter? It wouldn’t change anything.’ Rosie blurted out between crying.
‘Oh, Rosie. I wish you had told me.’ Pepper pulled her into a hug and cradled her head against her. ‘It’s ok, shhh, shhh. It’s going to be ok.’
Natasha rubbed her back softly. ‘If we had known, we would have warned you he was coming here. I’m so sorry.’
Rosie shook her head and wiped her eyes with her sleeve. ‘No… It’s my fault, I should have told you. I just… it’s a shock to see him face to face.’
Natasha and Pepper nodded in understanding.
They stayed with her for a little while, then when she told them she was ok and was going to take a shower before bed, they left her to it.
But it ended up being the longest shower ever. She kept thinking about Loki and what they had together before.
Kept thinking of when they first met…
Rosie was super nervous when she walked into the BDSM club. But after months of talking herself into it, she finally had the courage to do it.
She didn’t dare tell any of her friends what she was into or what she was doing, perhaps foolish in a way as no one knew where she was. And she was on her own. But she was too embarrassed to tell anyone. Her friends wouldn’t understand.
She relaxed a tiny bit once she was there, noticing other people on their own as well. Getting a few drinks down her helped with her nerves too.
Some of the people she spoke to briefly were really nice. She met a lovely couple at the bar who asked if it was her first time there. They told her if she needed anything to feel free to ask them, not to be shy. That everyone there was really nice and friendly.
There were various demos on that she watched, there was a lot more to some scenes than met the eye. It really made her realise how on sites such as Fetlife and others, it was easy to get sucked into the wanna-be-Dom’s who likely had no idea what they were doing. Or how much safety came into it all.
‘Excuse me, I don’t mean to bother you but I was wondering if you’d like to join me for a drink?’ A beautiful voice came from beside her when one of the demos on aftercare just finished.
Rosie turned and her breath was taken from her as she gazed up at an incredibly tall and handsome man.
‘I… I… Yeah, I would like that, thank you.’ Rosie stammered out, nodding over enthusiastically.
He grinned, showing off his pearly white teeth as he put his hand out towards her. ‘My name is Loki.’ He introduced.
‘I’m Rosie.’ She smiled up at him and put her hand into his. That’s when she noticed his gorgeous hands, so big and he had such long fingers. She blushed hard when he raised her hand up and he kissed the back of it, making her skin tingle like crazy.
‘Pleasure to meet you, Rosie.’ He said charmingly.
Loki gave her his arm and led her over to a free table near the bar. She was really nervous, and Loki could tell. But he soon had her at ease, just chatting away to her calmly and making her laugh almost straight away. She slowly began to relax in his presence.
‘Is this your first time here?’ He asked after buying them both another drink.
‘Is it that obvious?’ She cringed, making him chuckle.
‘Kind of. You did look a bit like a deer in the headlights. But that’s normal for first timers.’ Loki winked at her.
‘So, I’m guessing that means you’ve been here before?’
‘It does.’ He nodded. ‘Not often, it’s probably my fourth visit. Mainly just trying to meet new people, meet anyone that may potentially be interested in a Daddy Dom.’
Rosie’s eyes widened and she suddenly fell shy again as she looked down at her glass and swallowed hard. Loki raised an eyebrow, instantly realising that she was a little. He suspected she was a sub, but hadn’t been sure about the little aspect or not.
Loki leaned forward over the table towards her a little more. ‘Let me take a quick stab in the dark here… But I am presuming that you are a little?’
Her mouth opened and closed again. Then she just opted for nodding in response instead of trusting her voice to actually work.
Loki smiled softly. ‘Nothing to be shy about, sweetheart. That’s why lots of people come to these clubs, to meet their person.’
‘I… I guess so.’ She agreed.
They continued to talk for over an hour, not much about BDSM which Rosie found quite pleasant. He didn’t seem to want to jump straight in so quickly, which in turn made her trust him more and relax.
At the end of the night, Loki handed over a small card with his number on it. ‘There’s absolutely no pressure at all. But I’ve really enjoyed my night with you, Rosie. I would love to take you out on a date, perhaps out for lunch Saturday? But there’s no pressure, I don’t need an answer right now. Just text or call me to let me know. But if I don’t hear from you, that’s ok too. I totally understand.’
Rosie’s heart was racing. Could he get any more considerate? He wasn’t pressuring her at all, not asking for her number. Not even expecting her to contact him if she didn’t want to go on a date with him. Not even needing an answer straight away, what a gentleman.
Loki walked her outside the club and hailed a taxi for her, he even paid in advance for her, not taking no for an answer.
‘I just want to make sure I know you’ll get home safely. And I can’t help it, it’s the protective Daddy in me.’ He shrugged and chuckled, making her giggle shyly.
‘Thank you, Loki.’ She smiled widely at him as she got into the taxi and he closed the door for her once she was in.
He waved her off and she couldn’t stop smiling the whole way home.
Of course, she did text him the following morning to say she would love nothing more than to go on a date with him on Saturday. If that was still what he wanted, too.
Loki replied within a minute, with a time and a place for their first date.
-
‘How DARE you!’ Pepper roared at Loki and launched for him, slapping him across the face. It barely made him flinch, but he clenched his jaw as he glared at her.
Everyone was surprised at Pepper’s outburst.
‘Woah, what did he do?’ Bruce asked.
‘HE is the one that broke my cousin’s heart. She was head over heels in love with you, asshole. Then you just disappeared on her, left her alone without even an explanation. No note, nothing.’ She snarled at him.
Loki narrowed his eyes at her. ‘Not that it’s any of your business, but I did what was right. To protect her. She was better off without me.’
‘You did NOT do what was right. You have no idea what you’ve put her through this past year, how heartbroken she was. Still is!’ Pepper screeched.
Loki faltered. ‘Still is? Did she not find another, she’s a beautiful, incredible woman. How could she not find ano’
‘You are such a fucking idiot!’ Pepper screeched angrily and so wanted to slap him again, but she knew it was pointless.
The guys around him all put their face into their hands.
‘What?’ Loki asked, looking around.
‘That’s a low blow, man. Not even leaving her a note.’ Said Tony.
‘I… I thought I was doing the right thing.’ Loki said, looking at Thor.
Thor nodded. ‘I did not realise that your Rose was this Rosie… But yes, Loki thought he was doing right by her. He was in love with her, adored her. Never shut up about her. But when he discovered his true heritage on a short visit home, he decided not to go back to her. In fear of hurting her.’ Thor explained.
Pepper ran her hands down her face.
‘Well, you failed on that. You probably hurt her more by not at least saying you were over. You have no idea what she’s been through this last year.’ Pepper shook her head in disgust at Loki.
The team all murmured between them and left the room, leaving Loki with Thor.
For the first time in a long time, Thor saw his real brother back. He saw true emotion on his face again, sorrow and guilt.
‘I… I did not mean to hurt her.’ Loki said, still a bit confused. ‘I loved her, Thor… I do love her. I never stopped thinking about her, never loved another.’ He whispered.
Thor sighed and walked over to him, patting his shoulder. ‘I know, brother. I know.’
Loki thought back to the first time she had called him Daddy. How much it made his heart happy that she trusted and wanted him so much…
Rosie and Loki were snuggling on the sofa together, watching some cartoons that she loved. Loki wasn’t overly fond of them, but it made her happy so he always obliged. He was just happy to have her on his lap, comfortable and relaxed in his arms. Where she belonged.
He was lightly stroking her back underneath her top, making her skin tingle. She was in utter heaven, and Loki couldn’t get enough of just simply touching her. He needed touch in some way, whether he was just holding her hand or had the tips of his fingers on her skin, he needed and craved the intimacy with her.
Loki’s fingers trailed a bit too far to her side and up a little, making her squirm and giggle.
‘Daddy, that tickles!’ She laughed and tried to grab his hand to stop him.
But he had already stopped, freezing at what she said. That was the first time she had called him that, even in little space.
The biggest smile spread across his face and he buried his face into her hair and squeezed her tightly to him.
‘Sorry, my sweet little one. I forgot how ticklish you are.’ He purred.

You adjusted your bangle, before taking a last look at yourself. The traditional salwar you chose for the day was growing on you. Your sister called you, struggling to tie the threads at the back of her dress. Taking them from her hand, you made a beautiful butterfly knot, moving to take a final glance at her. She bit her lip, raising her eyebrows.
“Kaisi lag rahi huun? (How do I look?)” she asked, moving a strand of her hair nervously as you smiled at her encouragingly.
“Bahut sundar, (Very beautiful)” you said softly, hugging her. She sighed. “Itni kya jaldi hai shaadi karne ki? Thoda ruk nahi sakte the? (Why did you have to rush to marry? Couldn't you wait for a bit?)”
She chuckled, pulling back, holding both your arms.
“I’m gonna miss you too, not more than my room though,” she laughed, lightening the mood. She always seemed to know how to do that.
“Now let’s go, we wouldn't want to keep everyone waiting. Especially that boyfriend of yours,” she said a knowing look on her face as you felt your cheeks warm. You protested.
“He’s not my boyfriend—”
“Not yet,” she said, cutting you off. Something about her smirk told you; you couldn’t argue with her. But then again, you didn’t want to.
The two of you moved out of your room, placing the hotel key safely in your bag. It was rather silent in the elevator, you knew your sister was anxious about the ceremony. Not that one could tell that as soon as you arrived at the hall. You gasped taking in the changed decorations. Colorful, studded umbrellas hung from the ceiling and small couches were placed along the edges of the room— mehendi artists sat there with people surrounding them with open palms. Everyone’s eyes landed on your sister as she beamed and greeted them gracefully. You wondered whether you could ever be as elegant as her.
You gazed across the room looking at your cousins, mausis, and other members of the extended family. They all seemed to be enjoying themselves. Seeing James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter at the back near the food stands; you made your way over to them. They looked charming in kurtas you had bought with them earlier. And what a shopping trip had it been.
“No but you have to get it, it’s what today is about—” James said to a tired-looking Remus.
“What is today about?” you asked, amused. They wheeled towards you, their faces lighting up.
“Tell Remus he must get henna,” James pleaded, and Remus swayed his head wildly.
“Well,” you started smugly. “It wouldn’t hurt.”
Remus groaned making Peter snort. You faced Sirius who was staring at you wordlessly. Ignoring the tickling in your stomach, you asked him, “Are you not getting one too?”
Sirius shook himself a little, before releasing a cough.
“Well, I was hoping you would apply some on me,” he said as you raised your eyebrows.
“Me?” you asked, incredulously.
“You are quite the artist and the tattoo would mean more with you making it,” he said. “If you want, of course.”
“I would like that,” you said after a beat.
“You’re looking stunning today by the way,” Sirius added. “You do everyday, but this dress…”
“And we’re invisible again,” James said before you reply. Remus let out a laugh patting him.
“Bet they wouldn’t have noticed if we slowly moved away,” Peter snickered.
Sirius shoved his shoulder casually as you picked up a drink to hide your expression.
“I think you should get your henna done now,” you said, seeing your sister sit down at the head of the room, the henna women sitting by her sides and taking her hands. “I got mine done in the morning. It would take time to dry.”
As James and Peter took Remus away unwillingly, you shifted towards Sirius.
“Come, I’ll find a cone to make some on you,” you told Sirius, taking him by his hand. Moving to one of the couches you asked for some spare henna. The boy nodded, giving you a fresh cone along with some cotton swabs and cleanser.
The two of you proceed to sit at a corner and you put a cushion over your leg for support.
“Where would you like me to draw?” you asked as he offered you his left palm dramatically, running the other hand through his hair— picture of a model. You giggled.
“And what exactly do you want it to look like?” you asked, placing your hand on your cheek.
“I didn’t think much about that,” he pondered. “I do like those vines on yours? Uh— make whatever you like.”
You hummed, thinking. Perchance you did know what exactly would suit him. Cleaning his hand with a cotton swab, you took a cone in your hand and started making little footprints from his thumb to his pinky finger. Sirius inhaled sharply when he realized what you were drawing.
“Tsk, stay put,” you said as Sirius sat up straighter. He looked on to what you created keenly. You caught him gazing at you instead more often than not, making it harder for you to concentrate.
“You never quite told us what this is about,” he said after some time. “I mean it’s pretty great, people getting temporary tattoos before a wedding. And from what I’ve learnt from staying here, everything has a meaning. Does it have a story too or?”
“It’s supposed to wish the bride prosperity and happiness,” you said, remembering what your mother told you when you asked her the same. “A saying goes that the darker someone’s henna becomes, the more loving their partner is.”
“Oh?” he asked curiously, looking at your hands. “If your henna becomes darker later— it would be because of some lover?”
You chuckled.
“Well, according to the saying yes,” you shook your head. “In reality, it depends on your skin and what kind of powder you use to make the mehendi. But it’s pretty to believe the saying, don’t you think?”
“If you have someone in mind, then yes,” he replied.
“Do you?”
Sirius eyed you intensely. Your heart beat faster awaiting his answer.
“I do,” he said. For a moment neither of you looked away from each other. The dholak began to play startling you both out of the trance. You peeked at him and then got on to make little paws to complete the design. Neither of you dared to speak again. The tension seemed almost unbearable.
“Tada!” you said on adding the finishing touches. Sirius observed the design, seemingly delighted with it.
“It’s so pretty,” he hushed. “The paws, the footprints... brilliant! I wish I could do the same for you...”
“You can actually” you said all of a sudden. Sirius furrowed his eyebrows as you explained further. “There is a small space left here you could make something on.”
“You would like that?”
“I would love it,” you gaped as Sirius shook his head. “You can do it, please Sirius, that way we both would have made each other a tattoo.”
“I’m not great at art,” he pointed out. “And what would I even make?”
“Make the Orion belt,” you said, ignoring the heat rising in your ears. “I saw those gorgeous astronomy projects you made and I would love something starry and tied to you too.”
Sirius blushed, abashed.
“If you want that,” he said. You handed him the used cone, having won, and laid out your palm to him.
Carefully marking up the stars he began to fill them in. You bit your lip watching Sirius work. His hair fell over his face, curls licking his skin. He was so caught up in work that he seemed to forget everything nearby.
“I know I’m handsome but I won’t be able to work with you looking at me like that,” he said, unmoving. You flushed, mummering you weren’t making Sirius smirk widen.
“Of course you weren’t.”
Sirius heaved a sigh sitting back, letting you regard the stars.
“It’s beautiful—”
You wanted to say more but your cousin Ruuhan came beside you, grabbing your arm to get your attention.
“Come dance, everyone is!” he said as you grinned. You looked at Sirius in silent question as he shook his head telling you to go on. Your mausis and other cousins were already dancing when you were pulled in. Laughing you moved along with them, dragging your sister to dance along with you.
You spent the night eating, dancing and having fun. The marauders joined you— you gave them your best puppy dog eyes when they said no. Amidst everything, you couldn’t remember the last time you had been this happy. It felt like a high. A happy high. One you never wanted to escape.
The next few days passed in a blur and it was almost too soon you were walking your sister through the grounds to marry the girl she loved. Wrapping an arm with hers you watched all the eyes on you two. Sirius stood along with the marauders, gasping a little when he saw you. You gave him a small nod, expecting him to wink back or give a teasing look, but it never came. He looked at you like he was seeing stars for the first time. Angling your attention towards your sister, you stepped forward. Handing over her hand to her fiancée, you watched your sister get up on the stage. Tears welled up in your eyes. Sirius came to stand beside you and took your hand in his. Squeezing it a little, you gave him a reassuring glance.
“You know; the past few days I’ve realized something,” Sirius said quietly as the ceremony moved on. You gestured for him to continue.
“Love should be celebrated, grandly because,” he said with a twinkle in his eye. “Because you shouldn’t be afraid to show off the one you adore to all around you. What I couldn’t understand however; what were we supposed to do if all others except the person knew about the affection you had for them?”
You sucked in a breath, waiting for him to continue. Sirius took your hand in his, running his fingertips along with the stars he drew.
“I love you,” he whispered so softly you almost missed it. Your heart leaped as he avoided your eyes. You cradled his face, making him look at you. His grey eyes shone angelically under the fairy lights.
“I love you too, Sirius,” you said, pulling him close. The two of you sat with an arm around the other, watching your sister take her vows for life.

Summary: Duke’s parents recover and come home. Written for Duke Week 2021 Day Six: Family Bonding.
I was going to write something angstier for this prompt, but it actually turned into just the comfort part of hurt/comfort. Sometimes I need a good cry about something good happening to characters I love.
Also read it here on AO3!
-
His parents were back.
His parents were back, and Duke could cry and cry and cry forever. He sobbed into his mom’s shoulder for who knows how long when he saw them. His mom pat his back—he was taller than her now—and murmured to him, “It’s okay, baby bird. We’re here.”
The use of the nickname he hadn’t heard since he was in elementary school made him sob harder.
His mom and his dad were, were okay, their mouths weren’t contorted into unnatural grins and they didn’t carry that gleam of hatred and they said they were so sorry and they loved him so much and wow, hadn’t he grown up so much—he turned out to be the spitting image of his mother, didn’t he think?
Duke didn’t think he’d ever stop crying.
“I missed you,” he blubbered. “I missed you every day, I swear, I tried so hard to find a cure or something—”
His dad smiled at him, softly, tears in the corners of his eyes. “And you did. We’re right here, Duke. You brought us back.”
He had to call Jay to pick them up, because his parents no longer had licenses and Duke didn’t trust his hands to not shake in the full force of his joy.
-
In the days that followed, Duke didn’t go out as the Signal. How could he? This all felt like a fever dream; he’d been wanting this for so long. If he didn’t spend every waking moment with his parents, he feared they could revert back to what they were, and it would be a dream after all.
Jay took a few days off of work, and Duke called in sick for a few days at school. The Thomas family glowed with genuine grins, because they were whole. They spent the time catching his mom and dad up on what they missed, and having fun playing games or going out the rest of the time. To his dad’s chagrin, Duke had gotten much better at chess, but no one could beat his mom at Monopoly.
Then life came crashing down around them. Jay had to go to work, Duke had to go back to school, and his parents needed to begin a new chapter of their lives. Unbeknownst to Jay and his parents, Duke skipped his first day back at school to chase down a string of thefts he’d read about in the news.
He could never stay away from Signal for long. Gotham needed him, needed all the help it could get.
It wasn’t a difficult case, by any means. Mad Hatter was about as subtle as a barge. Still, Duke embraced the thrill of hunting them down, as the trail of clues led him right towards a newly opened costume store, Wonderland Haberdashery.
Again. Subtle as a barge.
“What are we waiting for?” a man dressed as a giant white rabbit complained.
The dormouse next to him shushed him loudly. She hissed, “The boss’ signal.”
Duke took that as his cue. He launched into action, running forward with a well-timed punch to the rabbit’s face. “You’ve got one right here.” (Those jokes never got old.)
He let himself loose, using all of his training as well as his own metahuman power to demolish his way through the storybook-themed goons. He couldn’t fight the grin on his face; he was having too much fun. His heart reached a thunderous frenzy in his ears and he loved every second of it. These guys couldn’t touch him.
When the time came to knock out Jervis Tetch himself, Duke obliged with glee. He’d just finished tying him to the wall when his phone buzzed with a notification.
It was three, school was over, and he should be heading home. His parents should be home.
His parents were home. It still felt surreal.
He ran into Jay’s apartment and kicked off his shoes faster than he ever had when doing a superheroic change of clothes.
“Hey Mom! Hey Dad! I’m home!” he called. When he heard no response, a chill went down his spine, and he rushed to the living room. There, his parents sat on the couch, fixated on the TV. The news channel was on, talking about an altercation at—oh.
It was talking about him.
“That’s you,” his mom said without turning back to look at him.
A wad of bile as large as a stone formed in his throat. He knew Bruce probably had contingencies for if anyone guessed his identity. Deny it, prove that he was in school, get a shapeshifter to pose as Signal in the same room as him. But he couldn’t stop himself from saying, “Yeah.” He couldn’t, he wouldn’t lie to his parents. “Are you upset?”
He’d imagined this scenario many times. What would his parents say about his vigilantism? He was risking his life every time he was out there, and no parent would want that, but he was helping Gotham. He was helping Gotham’s people, just like they had taught him to do.
“Let me take a look at you,” his mom told him, beckoning him towards the couch. Duke listened, sitting in between his mom and dad. His mom cupped his face with her rough hands, and he leaned into the touch. “It’s dangerous,” she murmured; Duke squeezed his eyes shut.
A firm arm reached around his shoulders, holding him tight. His dad. “But you’re happy,” he said.
Duke nodded, his chin trembling.
They dwelled in a moment’s pause, until he was being hugged from both sides. Duke opened his eyes to see his parents with faint smiles. “We couldn’t be there for you,” said his mom, “but you found yourself.”
“I did,” Duke whispered, crying for the millionth time this week. “I did.”
“We’re so, so unbelievably proud of the person you’ve grown up to be, baby bird. We just wish… we just wish we could have been here to see it happen.”
-
His parents laid down some ground rules. No more skipping school unless he had all his assignments done and he had straight A’s. He had to be home for dinner, and after sundown he was off his shift. He could join night shift with the other Bats only twice a week in a limited capacity, and he had to go to sleep before midnight on school nights. And he would tell Jay his secret.
That had been the hardest one. Duke could barely get the words out, suddenly filled with shame for not telling Jay earlier.
But as it turned out, Jay already suspected it. “I’m no genius, but you’re disappearing constantly. I can never find you. Wayne takes you out of Gotham all the time. That’s not just an internship, Duke.” His jaw hardened. “But don’t think that I’m going to be the cool cousin now and let you break any of those new rules your parents set. Safety first.”
Duke rolled his eyes and hugged him. “Love you, man.”
“Love you too, rascal.”
He had to let Bruce know. He’d been keeping in touch with Bruce throughout all of this, but sparingly. He got the vibe that Bruce was keeping his distance out of respect for him and his parents.
Well, no more of that. Duke shot off a text to Bruce to let him know he was coming, then pocketed his phone. “Hey, Mom? Dad? You wanna ride with me on my motorcycle to Wayne Manor?”
He wouldn’t have actually done it (it was too big of an identity risk), but it was worth it to see his parents’ briefly stunned looks before his dad started chasing him with a noogie at the ready.
Jay drove them all to Wayne Manor. His mom and dad walked out of the car tentatively, scrutinizing their surroundings. Duke fidgeted with his shirt, wondering what they thought. For all intents and purposes, this was his home, if only for a little over a year.
Duke rang the doorbell, ready to greet Alfred, but it was Bruce who opened the door for once. The way he held himself struck Duke. It wasn’t extravagant and flighty like Brucie, nor grim and tense like Batman. Duke’s family were some of the very few to see Bruce Wayne as he really was, without a persona.
“You took Duke in while we were… unavailable,” his mom said before Bruce could say hello.
“Yes,” replied Bruce calmly, wearing something on his face Duke didn’t often see. Vulnerability. Anxiety .
His dad held out his hand. “Doug Thomas. Thank you. Thank you for taking care of our boy.”
“It was a pleasure.” Bruce shook Duke’s dad’s hand. “Duke was a delight to mentor and guide. I’m glad he has you both back.”
Duke grinned. “He says I’m a delight but he didn’t think so every time I snuck out of the Manor to track down a lead.”
“You were supposed to be on bed rest.”
“And I rested, in a bed, after I solved the case! I do it every night when I sleep—that’s working overtime on bed rest, Bruce.”
“And you won’t be pulling any of that with us, young man,” his mom told him in a stern tone.
Duke quickly made his eyes as wide, pleading, and innocent as possible. He would never, he was about to say, when Bruce told them to come in.
“A better man than I expected him to be,” his dad said once Bruce had moved far enough he wouldn't hear. His mom hummed in agreement. “And Duke, you felt safe with him?”
Duke snorted. “Define safe.”
“Smartass,” Jay muttered, behind the three of them. He’d been through the tour already. He had a begrudging respect for Bruce, but he wasn’t impressed.
“And who taught me to do that, ever since I was a little kid?”
Duke yelped as he dodged a smack from Jay. “I’m fragile, don’t hurt me!”
“You’re not fragile,” said the amused voice coming from down the hall. Cass, here because Duke asked her to be. Because he wanted his family to meet his family.
“Oh! Mom, Dad, Jay, this is Cass.” He dragged them over to meet her. “She’s like… she’s my sister.”
Cass nodded, observing Duke’s family. “Good to meet you.”
At his parents’ confused glance, he told them, “When you were gone, I made new friends, but I also found new family. Cass isn’t your daughter or Jay’s cousin, but she’s my sister.” In his chest, he felt a weight alleviate, one he hadn’t even been aware of. “Wait until you meet Damian. Remember how I always wanted a baby brother when I was a kid, but you guys kept telling me that I was enough of a handful?”
As he kept introducing his parents to the family he made, he felt a warmth grow within him, tickling his ribs, infecting his lungs. It was like he couldn’t do anything but beam from ear to ear, now that he had almost everyone important in his life gathered together. (He would introduce them to Izzy, Riko, and the rest of the Robins soon.)
His family had been shattered, but Duke had picked up the pieces and created something new. And it could never be the way it was, but that was okay. Duke was happy with his family the way it was now.
His parents were home; all his family was home. Duke couldn’t be happier.

My Sweet Rose, Chapter 1
TITLE: My Sweet Rose CHAPTER NO./ONE SHOT: Chapter 1 AUTHOR: fanficshiddles ORIGINAL IMAGINE: Imagine you are secretly a little but no one knows, one day you decide to check out a local BDSM club to try and get a feel of the community. You meet a handsome stranger that, over the next few months, shows you all about the lifestyle. However, one day… he vanishes without a word.
RATING: M NOTES: Daddy/little dynamic & Flashbacks will be in Bold.

AUGUST SEPTEMBER OCTOBER NOVEMBER DECEMBER
Tumblr media
Jaehyun sat cross-legged in the middle of the floor, leaning back on his arms, his hair a tousled mess, and his eyes red from not sleeping well. Moving never agreed with him. He hated change and how hard it was to settle into newness. He aspired to keep things as they were, which was why he hardly shopped for new shirts or baseball caps. The older and more used things were, the happier they made him feel. He didn’t want to exist in a world where he had to pick out new things to decorate a new apartment with, to pretend like he cared about separate cutting boards, one for meat and the other for vegetables.
Maybe he was just tired of giving a shit altogether.
He sat for a while on the wood floor that was scuffed after having to move his furniture alone. He kicked a lone sheet of bubble wrap with his foot, trying his best just to pop a bubble with his big toe. He blew hot air out of his mouth and looked around, willing his brain not to stir up old memories.
His phone rang and he ignored the call, something he didn’t often do. Jaehyun was a social butterfly. He liked talking to people, and liked the attention at the other end of the call, the way someone could feel excited just by talking to him. He knew the people he loved would be worried about him, and he resented any of those feelings they might have.
“I’m a grown up, for fucks sake.” he had told his mother before he left to pack up his apartment on his own.
His mother didn’t raise an argument, just let her only son go. So, Jaehyun was left alone to pack up his whole life, or what was left of it. By the time he got to the apartment he used to share, more than half of the things were gone. He hadn’t realized how little material possessions he owned, or how easy it was to pack up what he did have.
Jaehyun got to his feet. He knew he had to make a move and look for a new apartment for one person. It really was time to grow up and be the man he always wanted to be. He took one last look around the apartment before he locked it up forever, crossing that threshold and only thinking about you once.

December
“-I cheated on you.” he said. “I cheated on you the night I went to the bar without you.”
He meant it to sting. He wanted to see how the realization would set in, how the relief would slowly be replaced by repulsiveness. Your pretty little face scrunched up with it until you opened your mouth to berate him. More than anything, he wanted you to blame him for ruining the relationship, to use him as an excuse for your own infidelity.
Instead, there was only relief. It made Jaehyun feel disappointed.
“Do I know her?” you asked.
“No.” Jaehyun said. “She was a stranger. That doesn’t matter. It was just one time”
He was lying through his teeth. Not the best liar, Jaehyun was surprised you bought it. You looked understanding, which made him want to hurt you, really hurt you. The fight left him as soon as you admitted defeat. It was easy to love you but harder to unlove you.
“I have something to confess.” you said, sounding as pathetic as you looked.
He didn’t always know that you were cheating with Doyoung. There was a time, in the beginning, he used to laugh behind Doyoung’s back at his little crush on you. It was like a game for Jaehyun to watch his roommate squirm any time you walked into the room. It gave Jaehyun a mental pat on the back to know that he could get someone like you, someone everyone else wanted, someone Jaehyun’s roommate could not get. Looking back on it, it was wrong of him to think like this. Like everyone else, he was still learning how to be a better human being. He thought it would just take time.
Jaehyun had many crushes throughout his life, so he could hardly blame Doyoung for what should have been an innocent crush. You were pretty special. In a lot of ways, Jaehyun wished he hadn’t taken you for granted so much, because there were aspects to the relationship that were so good for him. He felt stupid to lose them. Also, you were beautiful and the sex was some of the best he’d ever had.
He supposed that he became really suspicious the feelings weren’t unrequited around Halloween. Something felt off at the party, and it had nothing to do with his drinking. You glowed whenever you were around Doyoung, much brighter than he himself ever could make you. That was the profound moment, the one where he tried so hard to convince himself that it wasn’t true. He began to blame himself for thinking negatively. The guilt ate away at him, gnawing at him whenever he was alone with his thoughts.
“Should I be scared of this confession?” Jaehyun asked.
There was so much bitterness dripping from his voice, but he was trying his best to remain neutral. Seeing the way your face deflated made him feel sympathetic towards you, something he was learning that adults could do.
You nodded, the tears falling quietly.
“Say it.” Jaehyun said.
You looked at him. He would always remember the way you looked at him, and how he wished things had turned out differently. In your eyes, he could see how certain you were of the future, how sure you were with your own choices.
“I cheated on you, too.” you said.
Jaehyun didn’t react like you wanted him to, which threw everything off. Your expression was accusatory, and he could see that you were wondering if either of you ever loved each other to begin with.
“Do I know him?” he asked.
“You don’t seem surprised.”
Jaehyun shrugged. “What does that say about you?” He squeezed his fists down by his side to calm down. He tried a different approach and added, “We shouldn’t do this outside.”
He started walking towards the car, hoping you would follow, but you didn’t. He walked back to you, reaching out his hand to touch your arm.
“You knew.” you said, the realization dawning on you slowly. “You knew I cheated on you this whole time?”
Jaehyun let his hand fall down by his side. When he spoke, his voice was thick. “Yes, I knew.”
“Did you cheat on me because I cheated on you?”
“Let’s talk about it in the car, please.”
He started walking, but again, you didn’t follow. Frustrated, Jaehyun turned back around. He looked at the windows to make sure no one was watching the show. He didn’t need his mother or his little cousins knowing what a wreck his life could sometimes be. By then, all the steam had left him. He was no longer angry or bitter, just numb.
“Yes, I knew you cheated on me,” he said. “I didn’t cheat on you because you cheated on me. What level of petty do you think I am?”
“How long have you known?” you asked.
“Does it matter?”
You looked terrified and so small. Jaehyun had to resist the urge to scoop you up and hold you in the cold air. He was still an asshole, but he was becoming a sensitive asshole. He thinks that’s the moment where the true change began.
Slowly, you started walking towards him. You both made it back to the car, a place that was starting to feel too heavy for Jaehyun, too boxed in. Closing the car door blocked out all of the air and sound. It was just the two of you, one person silently crying and the other trying his best not to break down with you.
“Why him?” was all Jaehyun said.
It was a question that had been bugging him for a long time. Sure, Doyoung was more emotionally available. He was outwardly intelligent. His charms were many, and he wasn’t bad looking. He kept most of his promises and could have been a good friend in a past life. People never had the wrong idea about Doyoung when they first met him, either, not like they did with Jaehyun. Their opinion of Jaehyun wavered, but Doyoung always brought forth the same reaction. He was the man a mother could like. He was the one you fell in love with, the one who felt right from the start.
Jaehyun could feel the mood in the car turn even more sour. You didn’t know he also knew it was with Doyoung. Maybe you were going to convince him that it was someone unimportant, some random in a bar, just like his story.
“Am I that awful?” Jaehyun asked. “I know I haven’t been here for you a whole lot. Our relationship hasn’t been the best.”
You cried a little harder. “No, you’re not awful.”
“So, why? Why do this to me?”
“I don’t know.”
“Good to know.” Jaehyun said, starting the car.
He drove away in silence, the only sound coming from the hum of the car. He dropped you off in front of his and Doyoung’s apartment. It was getting harder to remain feeling numb. As he sat in the car in front of his apartment, Jaehyun could feel every emotion flooding through his veins. He gripped the steering wheel so hard that his knuckles turned white.
“I’m not coming inside,” he said. “I’ll find somewhere else to stay until both of you are out of my apartment. Take as long as you need.”
You got out of the car and came around to the side where Jaehyun’s window was open. He opened it to the cool night air in order to breathe in the freshness. It just ended up making him feel ice cold, inside and outside.
Jaehyun leaned out of it and said, “By the way, I never really cheated on you. I just said that to make you admit it. Thanks for saying it.”
Tumblr media
The numbness returned and followed him around for roughly a month. You and Doyoung moved out within three days, not bothering to stew in feelings of guilt, like he wanted you to. Jaehyun didn't know what to do with himself, after that.
He would walk in and out of Doyoung’s empty room in the apartment, thinking up memories of you two fucking where Doyoung used to keep his bed. It was tortuous and stupid, and it helped no one in the long run, but he couldn’t stop himself from trying to draw emotions out of the pit of his belly.
Not seeing you had made it harder for him to move on. He thought about going to see you at your job, to casually stop by where he knew your group of work friends would be, but there were people in his life who always talked him out of it. He just wanted to feel something, anything at all.
His own work friends suggested he hook up with random strangers, but he never actually had it in him to go out and do it. Building any kind of relationship with someone wasn’t a great idea, even if it made him feel like he was getting some kind of sexual revenge on you. Walking around his half-empty apartment wasn’t the best choice either, but it helped him pass the time.
He didn’t get to tell you, but it was Doyoung that eluded him to the affair. When Jaehyun had asked him to take care of you, he had never seen someone so confident in his ability to do so. There was love in that man's eyes, a love that can only be felt when the person you love loves you right back. A little after that, when Jaehyun really looked at you and saw you, he confirmed that something serious was going on.
In a way, Jaehyun hoped it was just sex. He could take it if you and Doyoung were sneaking off just to fuck each other when he was at work. Adding love into the mix hurt him a little more, made him aware of the things he lacked.
So, back and forth he went like that across the apartment. He did things he wasn’t proud of. He blamed himself and didn’t blame anyone else but you. He cursed your name in the darkness. He took his aggression out on Doyoung, even going so far as to ring up his work and tell them Doyoung was thinking about quitting. It really was petty, which maybe he definitely was being, but it wasn’t anything he couldn't correct himself for. He was trying. He really was.
Tumblr media
Jaehyun took the last box from the top of the stairs, carrying it down in his arms like a delicate baby. On the side of the fridge, the only thing he wasn’t taking with him, was a calendar marking the end days in January. He thought of the next tenants moving in, and how they’d throw it out without hesitation. Maybe they’d have a more solid year ahead of them than he felt he did.
He couldn’t believe how fast time was moving, and he willed it to just slow down long enough for him to catch his breath. Soon enough, it would be February, and he’d have been single for nearly two months. The thought of spending his birthday alone made him sick to his stomach.
He walked down the stairs, looking into the box to see an old picture frame belonging to you on top. It was one your dad had taken of you as a child at the zoo. You were in shorts, your knobby knees sticking out, and your missing-toothed smile making him want to smile back. Jaehyun kept it in his room because it reminded him from time to time of you, of how one person can come into his life and change it all.
Jaehyun didn’t just want to throw it out, so he kept it with him until he moved. He didn’t know what to do with it now, but he figured he should probably return it. You’d want that photograph more than he did, but just barely.
After feeling like he wanted the whole world against you, Jaehyun started to refocus his attention on self-care and self-love. Slowly, he began to unpack his own responses to things, how he could choose to act better in every situation, and how the only person holding him back from a better life was him.
He began to feel better, too. It wasn’t going to cure him, but it was worth a start. He couldn’t stop the pessimism from reaching inside of his shirt and clawing at his bare skin, but he could change some things that didn’t serve him.
When he reached the outside, his heart a little raw from seeing your childhood photo, his mother was waiting for him in her car. Sometimes a momma's boy just needed his momma. He placed the box in the backseat and slid into the passenger seat.
“Are you ready?” she asked, patting his knee.
“I am.”
Tumblr media
Bars felt comfortable because they were noisy. He would go to one after work, order a drink and sip on it until he felt tired and went home. He wasn’t there to get drunk or to meet new people. Sometimes, he caught up with his work friends. Other times, he sat there alone, chit-chatting to the bartender on duty. He laughed when things were funny. He let his foot tap away against the floor when the music was good.
“Is this seat taken?”
A pretty girl was standing hesitantly in front of the chair next to him. Jaehyun smiled and shook his head no. She sat down beside him, bringing her purse on her lap and looking at him with curiosity.
“I see you here a lot.” she said.
“Ahh,” Jaehyun said. “I think that’s my cue to stop coming every day. I swear, I’m not an alcoholic.”
Her eyes widened, afraid that she had offended him. “I didn’t mean-”
“-I’m kidding.” Jaehyun said. "It's a joke."
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”
Jaehyun pushed his empty glass away from him and swiveled his chair to face her more. She looked self-conscious with the way she tucked her hair behind her ear. Jaehyun felt too awkward, so he turned his chair back around.
“Are you waiting for someone?” he asked.
“No.” She said, “I came to talk to you because you looked lonely.”
To that, Jaehyun didn’t know what to say. Instead, he ordered another drink and let her talk his ear off. She talked about everything and nothing the whole night. Jaehyun partly listened and partly let his mind wander. She was nice and interesting enough, but he wasn’t ready to start talking to other women in a way that suggested sex or relationships.
He could have used a friend. He would have liked to have found a friend in her, but she made it clear that she wasn’t interested in him in that way when her hand found her way to his thigh. She moved it upward with each word she spoke, her fingertips dangerously close to fondling him.
“This was fun.” Jaehyun said, feeling the buzz of alcohol running through his system. “Unfortunately, I have work early tomorrow and need a full night's rest. See you sometime?”
The girl looked taken aback at the sudden change of events. Jaehyun got up from his chair, said goodnight to her and sauntered out of the door. He hadn’t even realized they didn’t exchange names.
Jaehyun decided to walk home. The night was cold in the way winter was, but manageable. His jacket kept him warm enough, and if his bones chilled, he hardly noticed. He watched people as he walked, watched them happily walking along the sidewalks and dipping into whatever door they fancied. Slowly, he began to smile and feel more at ease, but maybe it was the alcohol making him feel that way. Or maybe it was a sudden feeling that maybe everything could be alright, only if he allowed it.
Tumblr media
He woke up and he was drooling. Jaehyun lifted his head from the pillow, looking to his left and right. There was a knocking sound that felt like it was coming from inside of his head. He hadn’t been that tipsy last night, so he knew a hangover was not the cause. He lifted himself up from the bed in his mothers spare bedroom and threw his legs over the side of his bed.
The knocking continued, more feverishly than before. Jaehyun ignored it and picked up his phone to see if he had any missed calls. There were none.
“I’m coming!” Jaehyun yelled when the final knocks were more forceful. He muttered to himself,” Fucking fuck.”
He walked across the room before realizing he was shirtless. He grabbed a dirty t-shirt from the floor and brought it over his head, letting the hem of it meet his sweatpants. In case it was one of his mothers snooty friends, he looked in the mirror and cleaned up his messy hair. He didn’t need anyone judging him for sleeping past noon on a weekend.
“Coming.” Jaehyun called again.
He walked out of the spare bedroom that was just to the left of the living room and ducked down to see if he could recognize the person standing on the porch. Or rather, people. He saw just a flip of hair before he ran behind the door and held his hand to his chest to get his heart to stop beating.
Doyoung’s voice was low and quiet, but Jaehyun could hear everything he said. “We’ll come back later. He's not home.”
Jaehyun didn’t have to hear your voice to know that you were there, too , that the hair he saw belonged to you. It was dyed a darker color, but it was unmistakably you. Yet, hearing the sound of your voice made his toes curl underneath him. He didn’t think seeing you so soon after the breakup would help him.
“He’s home.” you said, your voice somewhat impatient.
It was smart of you to come when his mother was at work. He thought you might have purposely done it this way, to avoid any more awkwardness. After all, Jaehyun’s mother was sure to ride for her son, to take a look at both of them standing on the porch and curse them out. At that imagery, Jaehyun smiled to himself.
“I don’t know.” Doyoung said, his voice nervous. "Should we be bothering him like this? It's too soon."
Jaehyun backed away from the door. He wondered if he had time to run back into the bedroom and get himself more presentable. He wanted you to see what you had been missing out on. He was a handsome guy, definitely one worth giving a second look to. He suddenly wished he had taken that girl at the bar home and fucked her, so that he could talk to you and Doyoung and have her walk out of the bedroom naked, unaware of what was going on. He'd love to see the look on your face then.
No, Jaehyun thought to himself. I should appear wounded. I am wounded.
The unkempt hair and slightly red-rimmed eye look was working in his favor. Before giving it another thought, Jaehyun whipped open the front door to his mothers house and faced them both down. He kept his face stoic, his voice even. “Can I help you?”
It was Doyoung who spoke first, his voice not as sharp as usual. “You have something of hers. She was wondering if she could have it back.”
“Can she speak for herself?” Jaehyun asked.
The whole time Doyoung was speaking, Jaehyun kept his eyes on you. It was a mistake to do so. There was nothing more heartbreaking than to see how well you were surviving. Your skin was glowing and flawless. Your new hair made you look mature in a way that was sure to make everyone notice you. You were dressed in nice clothes that matched Doyoung’s vibe. Jaehyun couldn't stop the jealousy from taking root in his soul.
“She can.” you said, speaking for yourself. “You have my picture and I’d like it back. Do you, by any chance, have it here?”
Jaehyun wasn’t really listening. He was looking into your eyes, daring himself to get lost in them. Maybe it was the fact that you were unattainable now, but it made him want you all over again. It was hard to let you go.
“Are you two dating now?” Jaehyun asked.
All three were silent, even Jaehyun. As soon as he spoke the words, he began to wish they’d stuff themselves back inside of his mouth. Jaehyun tried to recover and said, “That’s none of my business. Of course, I have your photo. I’ll get it.”
In their faces, Jaehyun shut the front door. He felt like he was going to have a heart attack. He clawed at his own neck and willed himself to breathe. He walked through his mom's house and went down to the basement where he was temporarily storing his belongings. Apartment hunting was going decently well, but he found out he could hardly afford more than a pot to piss in by himself. Having his mother support him had been a blessing, but it wasn’t easy.
After rifling through some boxes, he found the photo in question. The first few days he spent with his mother, he kept it on his bedside table. When he realized it was causing him too much pain, he brought it down to the basement with the rest of his things. He never thought you would come back to get it, or to remember it, or to show your face at his mother's house.
When Jaehyun opened the front door back up, you were gone. Doyoung stood, his eyes struggling to make eye contact. Jaehyun opened the screen door wide and handed the photograph in its frame to Doyoung.
“If you’re here to apologize, don’t bother.” Jaehyun said. “I’m over it.”
It was a lie, one too obvious for either to believe. Doyoung’s grace allowed him to let it go, to open his mouth and shut it right away. Jaehyun sat down on one of the porch chairs and motioned for Doyoung to do the same. Jaehyun shot a look in the direction of where you waited in a car, his face not betraying what he was feeling inside.
“I’ve been thinking about what I should say to you,” Jaehyun said. “But I’ve come up with nothing. All of that anger, and it still feels like I’m a fool with no way to defend myself.”
“You’re not a fool.” Doyoung said.
“You make me a fool by saying that.” Jaehyun said. “I’m a fool who was cheated on and too stupid to realize it, even with my suspicions. By my best friend, of all people.”
“Was I your best friend?” Doyoung asked. He sounded surprised, a little annoyed.
Jaehyun didn’t have an answer for that. Before, he would have answered it quickly. Of course you were my best friend. You were my roommate, my punching bag, and my buddy when all else failed. He had let Jaehyun’s lady live there because he was a nice guy, not because he was secretly in love with her. At that thought, Jaehyun chuckled darkly.
“Maybe not.” Jaehyun said. “It seems I never really had either relationship in the first place.”
“You didn’t want me to apologize.”
“No,” Jaehyun said. “It doesn’t do any good. I could apologize for not being the best boyfriend, but it didn’t matter. I could apologize for being a shitty roommate, maybe a friend, but you would still have made your choices.”
Doyoung played with the ring on his finger. He looked down at the frame in his hands, at the sweet girl looking back at him. “I owe you transparency.”
Jaehyun waited a long time for Doyoung to speak again. He was patient and channeling maturity. All he wanted to do, really, was go back inside and go back to sleep. Still, he waited and looked at Doyoung. When Doyoung didn’t speak fast enough, Jaehyun had to speak his mind. If he didn't, it would bother him too much.
“You’re dating her, yes?”
“Yes.” Doyoung said.
“In love?”
“Yes.”
“For a long time?”
“Yes.”
“Do you feel bad about it?”
“About loving her? No.” Doyoung said. “About hurting you? Yes. I did consider us some type of friends.”
“Not the type that doesn’t steal his boy's girlfriend, huh?”
The dig might have hurt Doyoung but Jaehyun couldn’t tell. Doyoung stood up, deciding that he’d had enough of the conversation. Jaehyun followed, rising to his feet in a way that desperately made him want to appear calm and cool.
“I’ll make this quick, since I have to go.” Doyoung said. “I don’t want to lose you in my life, Jaehyun.”
“Fuck you.” Jaehyun said, the words slipping out.
Doyoung’s lips parted. “I deserve that.”
“And her? Does she want to lose me?”
“I can’t speak for her, but no, she doesn’t.”
“Fuck right off.” Jaehyun opened his screen door. “A timeline where my girlfriend cheats on me with my roommate and they come back because they don’t want to lose me? Unbelievable.”
“Believe it.” Doyoung said.” Because it’s true. She won’t admit it, but there is something codependent about you two. About me, as well. Sometimes I feel like life isn’t the same without you in it. Actually, I know it’s not.”
Jaehyun shook his head as Doyoung turned to go. “I didn’t expect this. I wasn't prepared.”
Doyoung threw his hands in the air. “Me neither. I’ve learned not to expect anything anymore. Life is fucked. I'm trying my best to unfuck myself.”
Doyoung walked down the steps and back towards the car. Jaehyun watched him go, pausing way too long before going inside of the house and closing the door behind him.

When Blue Eyes Meet (Good Vlad AU ~ Oneshot)
Summary: I couldn't sleep and got this beautifully heartfelt idea in my head about how my Good Vlad met his cat Madison for the first time and how she helped turn his life around. It's about she adopted him, sensing how bad Vlad needed a friend after Jack and Maddie moved on with their lives until they finally meet again at their college reunion. Warning, this mentions character death.
Vlad's POV
I'll never forget that day, the day I met a very special little lady.
I had only been fully discharged from the hospital for a few weeks but...after I insisted on making sure Jack and Maddie could move on with their own lives without me since I wouldn't drag them down, but once returned home I was suddenly reminded of how alone in the world I really was now. Both my parents had passed away before I started my freshman year of college but they left me with everything I would need to secure a bright future, even the house which gave me a place to return to in the first place since we had no idea the accident would result in me being bedridden for several years.
But as soon as I stepped inside the house, just like my heart it felt so...hollow.
The warmth I used to feel there was long gone, and it had nothing to do with still needing to pay the heating bill. And I suppose it's fortunate that the money I had set aside to pay for my school supplies and my half of the rent was enough to pay for my hospital bills so I had just enough left over to invest in gaining a new lease on life after the accident. It would take time, but I was confident I would be able to go back and continue my studies eventually, but for now I need to focus on figuring out how to cope with the other huge transformation I had undergone.
I almost had to laugh at the irony because perhaps I'm only living a half-life since the accident turned me half-ghost. It was difficult at first, hiding the truth about my condition not only from Jack and Maddie, but the nurses and doctors as well. Thankfully, I inherited my father's sharp wits and managed to conceal my powers fairly well. As for the rest, it was just easier to let people assume they were only seeing things whenever they saw a strange light or my hand seemed to pass through solid objects. After all, who would ever believe that a human with ghost powers could possibly exist...?
Still, I suppose one good thing about returning to that house is that it was nice to finally be able to relax somewhat knowing I wouldn't need to hide my powers from anyone, or at least not nearly as often when I was still a patient. I would still have to be careful if someone came to visit me, but honestly the odds of that happening ere  highly unlikely. I say this because I have no living relatives left. No parents, no cousins or siblings, just me.
Sighing I set down my bags and started unpacking boxes. I needed something else to occupy my thoughts because I still hadn't quite gotten over the fact that I lost my scholarship. Realistically I knew that couldn't be helped given what happened to me so instead I turned my attention to the things I still could control, such as ensuring I still had a place to live since I was no longer a student and Jack wasn't my roommate anymore.
Speaking of which, right from the start I wanted make sure to avoid living somewhere with too many people around so although my original plan was to move back here after graduation I made the decision to return to this town ahead of schedule in light of my extenuating circumstances.
There were still faint traces of my old life here back from when my parents were still alive such as my father's desk and my mother's cooking supplies. And quite honestly, being back here and suddenly feeling their absence all over again...it made me sad. I missed them, just as much I miss Jack and Maddie but I had to start moving on too. So I shook my head, turned our old record player, and kept myself busy by unpacking my belongings.
Luckily I had everything I owned in the dorm moved here after it became painfully clear I wouldn't be able to attend classes anymore due to my critical condition. Jack and Maddie offered to do it for me personally but I declined their kind off because for one thing I didn't want them to find out where I live before I had enough time to gain full control of my powers, and for another I wanted to make a clean break for their sake...
I was dangerous to be around whether I liked it or not so exposing them to danger while my powers were still a bit difficult to control was not a risk I was willing to take. Especially since those two are all I had left and someday...I really hoped I'd be able to meet them again and tell them the truth about my powers. But until then, all I could do was try my best to start over and hope for the best.
~
Once I settled in, I began testing out my powers more, taking notes, pushing my limits, and yet the more I learned about myself the more I wished I had someone to share my discoveries with. Jack could be overzealous at times, but I missed how excited we both felt after making a new discovery about ghosts or ectoplasmic energy. And Maddie, she always knew how to reign us in so we could look at things more objectively even though she was usually just as eager to find out more too.
Having no one left to talk to or come home to had finally started to get to me and sadly as a result that's when the nightmares started up again too. Just like back in the hospital I would wake up in a cold sweat, clutching the sheets in both fists as the ghostly blue glow of my eyes cast flickering shadows on the walls. I had gotten careless because I thought I would be alright as long as I didn't have to worry about a doctor or a nurse walking in at any second and seeing my eyes glowing in the darkness.
That's when I realized I had to do something about this before things escalated even further and my emotions spiraled out of control again without some sort of outlet. I needed to make a connection, a way to overcome this shadow looming over me, so I considered seeing a therapist to prevent these nightmares from overtaking me. But I was afraid that if I did talk to someone...what if I became too emotional and exposed my powers to them? That could be a huge problem. I could always overshadow them, but I'd still be avoiding dealing with this terrible helplessness I felt.
That day, I was wandering around town in a daze, conflicted about how to deal with the problem when I happened to enter a local animal shelter. The people at the front desk were friendly, but I had never considered how my...ghostly attributes might make most animals wary of me since they have a sixth sense for the supernatural which quite honestly made me feel even more detached from the person I once was. As a boy I got along well with most animals but I never felt particularly attached to them. Dogs were a bit too energetic for my tastes and I had to deal with that enough with Jack but cats on the other hand, well I have always appreciated their independent spirit but I never considered them to be very affectionate animals...
That all changed the instant I saw her.
On my way out the door after satisfying my idle curiosity about how animals seem to perceive me now that I'm only half human I noticed this sleek black kitten staring directly at me with the most stunning blue eyes I've ever seen and when our eyes met, what I felt...I can't even describe it. It felt as though she was looking right at me, into my heart, and for the first time since the accident, it was like someone had noticed how lost I was and there was this unmistakable look of gentle sympathy in her eyes.
Mesmerized by her gaze, I turned around and asked the person at the desk more about her and they told me she had been abandoned which I could relate to to some degree. To be fair I hadn't been abandoned necessarily, but I felt that way sometimes since it was gradually becoming harder and harder to wake up alone in that empty house every morning, not sure what I should be doing with the rest of my life now that I'm all alone and don't have friends to confide in anymore I can visit whenever I want.
Impulsively I asked if I could hold her and they agreed, smiling at me secretively as if they already knew I felt an instant attachment to her and as soon as they handed her to me...she clung to me like her life depended on it and then crawled up onto my shoulders, wrapping her tiny body around my neck as much as possible and as soon as she was comfortable she started purring. It was like a hug of sorts and I had no idea how starved for the gentle contact from another living creature of any kind from someone that wasn't just another doctor poking and prodding me that all I remember is falling to my knees soon after, sobbing and resting my cheek against her head as she rubbed against me, licking away my tears.
Finally, I thought, this is what I've been searching for ever since I came home. I've missed having someone there who cares about me, someone to remind me that I'm not alone, someone who can stay by my side so I don't have to suffer in silence anymore without a friend there to comfort me just when I start to think I can't bear it anymore.
I'm sure everyone who saw me that day were just as stunned as I was by my meltdown, but I didn't care. I needed her. And she needed me, no, for reasons I cannot even begin to fathom she WANTED to be with me and no one else. It's like she had been waiting for me to walk in that door from the very start. Waiting for me to give her a home, a family, and most importantly...a name. And that name would become a bond that could never be broken, not even after her tragic death some years later when she returned to my side once more as a ghost because she knew I still desperately needed a friend-
And that's how Madison became my closest and dearest companion.
We’ve been inseparable ever since.

The Domestics
Alistair runs into an older elven woman on the battlements, watching the children play in the Skyhold courtyard below. They get to talking: isn't it nice that the mages get to keep their children now? Then, in the course of the conversation, Alistair figures it out. Alistair says, “I always wondered. What my life would’ve been like, if she could’ve kept me. I always kinda knew she didn’t have a choice. King’s bastards are the king’s, not whoever carried them. If she were a servant and if I’d end up in the kitchens or, better yet, the dairy. I really like cheese. But if she were a mage, I guess we never had any of that. Unless she ran away.” Read on Archive of Our Own here.
It’s snowing at Skyhold, which delays Alistair’s plans by a day. Anora cuts him loose, locking herself in the ambassador’s heated room with her furs, and he wishes he could change into less fine clothes and join the children in their snowball fight, or wander into the kitchens and see if he can sweet-talk the cook into giving him something hot and sweet to drink. He’s king, so he could ask for all the chocolate in Seheron, and doubtless the Inquisition would try to give it to him.
He walks the battlements so less people will see him and watches the battle in the courtyard below. The Inquisitor’s children seem to have made common cause with the servants’ kids against the visiting nobility; honestly it’s just a relief to see that it isn’t human against elf. Alistair, a tad self-conscious, touches his right ear. An older elf is watching them, smiling. Alistair wonders if she’s the mother of one of them below.
“Which one’s yours?” Alistair asks.
The woman says, “I’m only watching them for the Inquisitor. I’m their guard.” She’s got short black hair, threaded with silver, but her eyes are lively enough. She’s wearing green robes with a bit of Dalish-looking embroidery at the ends of her sleeves. She’s got an Orlesian accent, too. He didn’t know the Inquisition was working with elves from Orlais, didn’t Anora tell him to keep an eye out for Ambassador Briala’s livery?
“Oh.” He shouldn’t feel awkward, but he blushes anyway. He stares at the woman’s feet, toes poking out of those foot wraps, and wonders how on earth she’s not freezing. Alistair’s got a coat of heavy wool, trimmed in fur.
The woman notices he’s staring and says, matter-of-fact, “My circulatory system is different than yours. We conserve heat more efficiently than your people. Besides, I’m a mage. It’s easy to keep warm.”
That has him a bit miffed. Of course he knows elves are biologically different than humans; they can still breed, though. He’s evidence of that. He doesn’t feel the cold as intensely as the others at court, and he knows why. The servants at the palace can tell, even if he passes, for the most part. Eamon and Tegan talk all the time about how much he looks like his father, how much he looks like Cailan, but he’s seen enough portraits of them both to know how he differs.
Alistair says, again, “Oh. Cool. I’m half, you know.” It’s not that he’s discouraged from talking about it, but it’s never been something to advertise. Those with eyes to see it don’t need to be told, but right Alistair feels like he needs to justify himself, with the way she’s looking at him. Skyhold has had him wrong-footed; Leliana has been distant and he is finding it harder and harder to slip away from the King. Anora tells him that’s part of adulthood. He’s not so sure.
The woman says, “I know.”
Alistair folds his arms. “Really? Because I didn’t. What’s your name, by the way?”
The elf smiles sadly. “Fiona. I used to travel with the Grey Wardens, when I was young.”
Alistair says, “Really? The Grey Wardens don’t really let people leave. Unless, you know, you point out that yet another civil war is going to break out if they don’t let you put your ass back on the throne. What was your excuse?”
Fiona says, “I had a baby. It’s hard to keep a nursery going in the Deep Roads. The darkspawn get jealous.”
“Oh. Can’t be having that, they’re crabby enough as it is. Though I heard of a Warden who brought his cat into the Deep Roads too, scratched out the eyes of a hurlock apparently. You’re lucky, most of us can’t have kids. I can’t. Probably.” He thinks about his own natural daughter with Tabris and blushes at the lie, rubbing at the back of his head. It’s for her own good and the good of the realm he hasn’t brought her to court. It’s not an excuse, it’s a reason, and Morrigan has the spare heir anyway, if Anora can’t figure something out.
Fiona says, “I suppose it’s luck. The Circle took him away from me, and gave him back to his father.” She sounds wistful. “But under the Inquisition, the mages keep their children. It’s a different world now. There’s no going back.”
He thinks to himself, I’m not so sure—the disastrous plans for the Hinterlands, the riots in Denerim, the failure of the embassy in the Brecilian forest. He thought after the Blight, with this new alliance between elves, dwarves, and men, there would be no going back. Anora tells him it’s a struggle for the future and that reform doesn’t come in a day, perhaps not even their lifetime: sometimes they need to settle for establishing the groundwork for the next person to rule, like Maric did for them. But of course, Anora’s never had her cousin kidnapped and brutalized, or her father sold into slavery. That sort of perspective changes things.
Alistair says, “Really?” He scratches his head. “I look at things in Ferelden and wonder how things can stay so stagnant, and then you look at Orlais and how they’re eating themselves alive. And Orzammar, of course, which is basically a living fossil. People don’t like change. They’d prefer for things to stay the same, or even go back to how they were a generation ago.” He is surprised at the bitterness in his voice.
Fiona cocks her head and looks at him curiously. She says, “You’re too young to be talking like that. You must understand it comes in seasons—we flourish in spring and reap our harvest in summer, and then prepare for and suffer through the conservative reaction in winter. Sometimes it’s a harsh winter, and many do not survive. But then there is always the spring. You lived in Ferelden, you should know—from the Night Elves who freed your people from the Orlesian occupation to Clan Alerion securing the boundaries of the Hinterlands now, things have changed. You just need to…riot every so often, to make sure no one gets complacent.” She grins.
It’s nice to talk politics with someone who doesn’t know who he is, who thinks he’s just another wealthy Ferelden currying favor with the Inquisition, not a king staring down the religious cult that just carved itself a city-state at the border of his realm. Below the children are yelling. A couple of them are using magic to freeze the snowballs, and they’re having a fierce debate, interspersed with throwing said ice balls, on whether that’s fair.
Alistair says, “Then I hope you’re right. I hope the mages and the Inquisition’s made enough of a, er, spring, to shake things up. It’s good for these kids to stay with their families, I hated what the Circle did. I didn’t know my mother, growing up. Would’ve avoided a lot of angst if I’d gotten to meet her.” He thinks about Morrigan and her awful mom, and then Goldanna flashes through his mind. Ashamed, he pushes the thought away. “Or maybe it would’ve made it worse! Hard to say, I certainly don’t know!” He smiles at the woman brightly.
Fiona says, “It might have made it worse, since she was an elf. Your life would’ve looked very different, even in Ferelden.”
His heart stops. Surely she doesn’t know who he is. That could be awkward, considering what he’s been saying. Anora will be furious that he’s gone off and talked politics with another random person again. He can’t help it, he gets bored easily, and the courtiers and advisors only tell him what they think he should want to hear.
“How do you know I’m Ferelden?” Alistair asks suspiciously.
“You’re wearing the badge on your fur coat. And, of course, your accent. Unless I am mistaken?”
“No, no,” Alistair says. “But yeah. Sorry. I don’t know much about her. Don’t know if she’s still alive. Just that she was an elf. Always assumed she was a serving woman or something, if my father was anything like C-Caleb.”
Fiona says, “Sometimes it’s better not to think about it, how we came into the world. I never met my parents either.” She leans against the balustrade and shakes her head at the kids fighting in the courtyard below. They’ve devolved into outright brawling, but that weird Warden the Inquisitor keeps around her has waded into the fray, bellowing orders. “It’s good to see them playing again. They never had enough time to play.”
“When were you a Warden?” Alistair asks. “You know, my dad travelled with the Wardens too. But they didn’t make him join up—guess that’s why I’m here, ha-ha.” He wants to ask her if she ever met him, because they might have overlapped. It’s hard to tell with elves sometimes though, they age more slowly, but she looks like she’s in her late forties, a bit careworn. Then he decides he really doesn’t want the conversation to get weird, because he is a king and his father was a king, and it’s rare that someone speaks to him normally now—treats him like the lovable idiot he knows he is, not the history-breaking king.
Fiona says, “Oh, give or take thirty years or so. I try not to count the years, at my age. My people live a long time if left unmolested, but I have a knack for running into trouble.”
Alistair laughs. “Oh, me too! I don’t even mean to do it, I’ve just never learned to keep my mouth shut.” To Teagan and Anora’s chagrin, he thinks ruefully. “I was given to the Templars as a boy, before I managed to get the Wardens to take me, and Maker! The Mother despaired of me. Called me most the accidental heretic she’d ever known. Really the Wardens taking me saved my life, Maker knows what they would’ve done to me if I kept poking at them like I was.”
Fiona pauses, trying to suppress a laugh, and then says, “At least you’ve never started a war.”
Alistair laughs heartily at that. Then he realizes what she’s said. “Wait, what? You started a war?”
Fiona says, “You…you didn’t know?”
Alistair says, “Is there something I should know?”
Fiona steps away, smoothing her expression away. “Many things.” Anxiously she peers down into the courtyard, smoothing her sleeves over her hands. The two factions of Skyhold children have joined forces and are attacking Blackwall with snow, but another one of the Inquisitor’s companions has joined the fray—a cackling elvhen girl, and then Alistair sees that from the balcony of the inn there’s a mustachioed mage swatting snowballs away from his friend.
Alistair says, “You never asked me my name.”
Fiona glances at him and then turns away. “I didn’t need to. You look very much like your father. Though I suppose you must know that.”
Alistair opens his mouth and then closes it. He says, voice hoarse, “Did you ever—“ He stumbles over his words, and clears his throat. “Did you ever find out what happened to your baby? When the Circle took him away.”
Fiona hesitates. The silence between them is filled with the children laughing below, the mage grandiosely chanting what are clearly made-up words, and the old Warden dramatically pretending to be overwhelmed by the volley of snow. The elven girl is swearing revenge, right now. It looks the children are trying to steal the “body” and make a pyre out of snow.
Unless she ran away.”
Fiona covers her face with her hands.
Alistair continues, “Then, yeah, being apostates suck. Believe me. I met a girl who lived in a swamp. But I think we could’ve made it work. Like since I pass, and I’m not magic—at least I don’t think so, but I think I’d know by now? I’m like, thirty-five. Or something. I could’ve gone to the villages and traded for food. And I would’ve known more about who I am. Than just Maric’s bastard. Who’s just a story, anyway. That’s how kings like that end up. Just stories.”
His mother is weeping now.
He says, “I have no idea how you started that war you said you did. But I think I know what I’m supposed to know.” He takes a step closer, and she doesn’t move. He says, helplessly now, “I think I have your eyes.”
Fiona leans against the balustrade, back to the courtyard below. She’s not crying now, but she’s not making any sound. Alistair is afraid to go closer. Her hands press into her face like a mask, restraining a scream. He thinks if he touches her, all that tension will explode. He gets overwhelmed like that too. Can you inherit that sort of thing? He has to wonder, does the way one expresses pain get passed down in the blood?
He waits for her to speak. A door behind them creaks open, footsteps scuffle to a stop, then retreat. The door shuts. The mage has come down into the courtyard now and is chanting what appears to be Nevarran over the pile of snow that is Blackwall’s pyre. The elven girl is leading the children in mourning—but then the mage flourishes, and the snow glows purple, then scarlet, then green as he sparks. Blackwall throws the snow off and roars. The children cheer.
Fiona breathes heavily, drawing herself out of wherever she retreated. She swipes at her face with her sleeves. She says, “Forgive me. It was better that you didn’t know. You couldn’t have become—you deserved—Maric needed—what are you going to do, I told the Divine to go fuck herself, you can’t have a mother who told the Divine—“
Alistair says, impressed, “You told the Divine to go fuck herself? I am your son, I knew it had to come from somewhere! This is your fault!” He gestures at himself, and Fiona manages a laugh.
“An exaggeration,” she says. “I merely said the Divine should fuck herself, right before we voted to dissolve the Circles and separate from the Chantry. I’d hoped to tell her that at the Conclave, which is why they sent Orsino rather than myself.” Her mouth twists into a rueful smile. “Perhaps the only time running off my mouth and losing my temper has saved my life.”
Alistair says, “Well, the Divine was kind of an ass. Somebody had to say it.” He laughs. “Oh, this is wonderful. My mother, the rebel mage.” He’s genuinely delighted, this is much cooler than anything he came up with as a boy. “This is so cool. Anora’s going to be so annoyed when I tell her. Not like she can complain, her dad betrayed the realm and got all the Wardens killed, so really on the scale of shitty in-laws, I win.” He pauses: he isn’t sure he conveyed what he wanted to by that. Fiona is just staring at him. “But seriously, I don’t know who you are. Besides, obviously, my mother.”
Fiona says, disbelief in her voice, “I’m the Grand Enchanter."
Alistair says, “Oh Maker, I should’ve recognized the belt, shouldn’t I?”

heyyy :)) is it alright if you make an hc for Loki and reader? where reader can change reality like wanda cause she's depressed and she lost her family and the avengers are trying to help her? (I'm crying, I just finished wandavision ;( )
aw mAN MY HEART😭💗
also just a warning/PSA for this one: this deals with heavy feelings of grief/loss (specifically of family members) as well as some others concerned over mental health that accompanies the grieving process? just wanted to give a warning just in case. On a slightly, teeny-tiny, lighter note, Loki is alive in this one. (We don’t accept his IW death as canon in this house ❤️)
this is a sad one, i’m sorry! but i’ve got a fluffier one coming soon, I promise ❤️
The Snap took out your entire family
Like... you weren’t even sure how it was possible that the odds were that much against you
You had hoped with all your life that with the survival rate of The Snap being 1 in 2, you would’ve been spared even one family member: a cousin, an extended great aunt, anything
but they were all gone
it didn’t hit you right away at first -- especially with other members of the team disappearing as well, you felt that there were others who were suffering more than you
they needed to be helped first
but once the initial shock of half the population disappearing wore off and the other Avengers inevitably had to keep moving forward, that’s when the weight of your loss began to hit you
you’d often hide in your room when things got too difficult, only allowing yourself to fall apart when you knew no one else was awake
it also didn’t help that the Compound was twice as silent as it usually was, due to some of your closest friends also disappearing
no one was taking it well, really, but it was harder for you than anyone because of your powers
it was tempting to shift reality to bring everyone back, even just for a moment, but you knew it would only cause you more problems in the long run.
especially with you still being in the first stage of your grief, you knew that if you brought your family and your fellow Avengers back in some way, you’d never want to leave
the dream you had a few nights later didn’t help matters either: you were back in your grandparents’ home as a young child, running around their house as old music from the 60s played softly in the background
you woke with the memory of a warm summer’s eve fading away from you like a worn blanket, and tears began to stream down your face
you’d give anything to have that memory back in the physical world, even if it meant never leaving your room again
you decided right then and there that you were going to turn your room in the Compound into your own safe haven
it would look like your grandparent’s house in your dream, and everyone you loved -- friends and family alike -- would be there.
the entire Compound trembled as you altered reality in your room, and while you were resurrecting everyone in your own way, somewhere across the hall Loki shot up out of bed
he felt your magic alter the very strings of reality
he had given you space to grieve by yourself, but now he was getting worried
you often spoke about this between the two of you -- using magic to alter fate for your own benefit -- and it was something the two of you swore never to do
magic always had a price, no matter how tempting it seemed.
It scared Loki to think of what you might have done
back in your room, there were tears of happiness running down your cheeks now as you took in your surroundings
you were back home with everyone you loved. they were safe. you were safe. no more bad feelings.
the air smelled like freshly baked cookies and the orange glow of the sunset warmed the walls of your grandparent’s house, and you couldn’t keep the smile off your face as you caught sightings of Bucky, Wanda, and Peter roaming the house
This was home.
To your surprise, however, you heard a loud and obnoxious knock on your front door
Everything was soft and gentle here -- something was definitely wrong
you opened the door to find Loki frowning worriedly at you
“Loki! You’re just in time, my grandma made cookies for everyone-”
“Y/N... what... did you do...?”
His eyes searched your face, and you couldn’t help but notice your heart skip a beat as an anxious shadow crossed his features
no. you weren’t going to be reminded today.
“Would you like to come in?” You wished there was a way to alter your body’s chemistry, you hated the way your hands trembled and your throat tightened.
“No, but I would like you to come out. With me. I can make you tea the way you like it.”
The thought of outside nearly made you slam the door instinctively. You had everything you needed right here. You had tea here, you didn’t need to go outside.
“No.”
“Please.”
It wasn’t a question, it was a command, spoken quieter than a whisper, but you could feel the urgency in Loki’s tone nonetheless.
all you could manage was a shake of your head before you shut the door
that night, you and your loved ones gathered around the crackling fire in your grandparents’ living room, but even with everyone sitting around you laughing and telling stories, you couldn’t quite quell the dread in your stomach
the little voice in the back of your mind telling you this was all wrong just wouldn’t seem to go away
your mind kept drifting back towards Loki, and you hated that there was still a part of you that longed to go back to him, to just be held in his arms as you cried
you nearly jumped out of your skin that night when Loki came into the house once more, silently climbing the steps to your childhood bedroom
“Y/N...”
“I’m not going back. I can’t.”
“You have to. None of this is real and you know it.”
You pulled the covers tighter around you and try to use your powers to block Loki out of your reality, but he’d put up a shield so powerful around him that he didn't move an inch.
“You know better than anyone that magic has a price, Y/N!”
Tears formed in your eyes because you knew he was right. you knew this wasn't real and these weren't your friends, these weren't your family.
your family was gone.
Loki approaches you slowly and pulls you into a gentle embrace, and you finally allow your created reality to fade away as you sob into his shoulder
it hits you for the first time in days just how nice it feels to be held by someone, especially Loki who understands what it feels like to lose someone better than most
he whispers soft words to you, reassuring you over and over that he’s here, you’re safe, it’s okay to cry
there’s a point somewhere in the night where Loki cries with you, because he empathizes so strongly with you and with your grief -- there’s a part of him that never fully processed his mother’s death, and being with you allows him to do that
the two of you sort of become each other’s lifeline at this point, always keeping some sort of physical contact, whether its a desperate embrace or even just your shoulders touching gently
you need him more than ever now, and Loki also realizes the longer he stays with you that he needs you just as much.

Tall man gets love
Description : Mori was always with Honey. But what happens when they split up for a bit, thankfully Mori will always have his family to help him.
Or in other words, Ouran High School Host Club is perfect for agere stuff and there’s not enough of it on here.
This was my first OHSHC fic and it took me a while to get the courage to write thing but I’m pretty impressed with it. This was very inspired by DannyFANtom and Mcschnuggles who have awesome fics, I really recommend checking them out.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/30654551
Mori was walking the halls looking as if he was in some kind of trance. He looked lost, and confused. As if his mind was off somewhere else. He couldn't find Honey and that made him a little... nervous.
They were always together.
He could feel his mind start to get... fuzzier. It was slowly getting harder to focus on stuff. He tried to remember where he was and where his cousin was but, nothing came to his mind.
So there he was, roaming the hallways after school hours looking for Honey. He vaguely remembers him having to get something from class but he should've been back by now.
That's when his eyes landed on it.
Music room 3.
He gasped. He knew this room! Mori quickly walked towards the music room, taking shaky steps. He was having a hard time focusing on anything. Especially walking.
He felt his mind begging him to be small. It's been a little while which he knew wasn't good.
He tried to regress at least once a week but missed the last few weeks.
The only person who knew was his cousin, Honey. He watched him when he felt small and always took care of him. Kind of like a caregiver...
Mori slowly opened the door trying to be as quiet as possible.
Thankfully all the guests had gone.
Unfortunately, the other hosts where there.
Mori attempted to enter as quietly as possible, not wanting to cause attention to himself, sadly, this never worked.
"Hey, Mori-Senpai!" Haruhi called to him, smiling at him with a little wave. The other hosts smiled and greeted him as well. He smiled a small sad smile at her.
His mouth quivered a bit.
His day had been so stressful so far and he hadn't seen Honey in a long time.
So it's not a surprise that he couldn't keep the tears that fell down his face. His lip quivered as more came.
Seeing all his friends so happy to see him made him want to slip even more.
As hard as he tried, he couldn't help it.
The usually quiet man sat down and put his face in his hands as he cried. The other hosts looked confused and went over to him.
This was concerning since they’ve never seen him like this. So... sad. It was very out of character since usually they would be lucky to get any reaction out of him. He was a man of few words.
"Mori-Senpai. What's wrong?"
"Why are you crying?"
"Where's Honey-Senpai?"
All these questions were beginning to get too much for him.
Mori removed his hands from his face and put them to cover his ears. He tried to block out the noise. His eyes shut tight.
Without him knowing, he felt a gentle hand pressed against his shoulder. Mori gently opened his eyes to see Tamaki placing a hand on his shoulder.
Tamaki was looking down on him, smiling a comforting and reassuring smile to him.
Mori felt himself get calmer. He could feel the tears slowing down as he sniffled. He rubbed his eyes and that's when another hand passed him a tissue.
Looking up again he saw Kyoya with the same type of comforting and reassuring smile that Tamaki had.
Mori wiped his nose and his eyes. He stopped crying. They could tell he was trying to go back to his neutral expressionless face but was struggling a significant amount.
“Senpai? Are you any better?” Haruhi asked him calmly. He gently nodded.
“Why were you so upset before?” Hikaru asked him.
“Yeah, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him like that before.” Kaoru said, nodding in agreement.
Mori only sniffled and wiped his nose a bit.
Even if the other didn’t notice of it right away. Haruhi definitely did. The way he was acting and his expression. As if he was thinking about something else, his mind far away. She doesn’t know why but... he looked so... innocent in her eyes. Almost like a child...
No one was expecting what happened next...
Mori felt so safe at this moment with his family surrounding him that he clung into the closest person.
This, of course, was Tamaki.
He couldn’t help it when he wrapped his arms around the blond and tried to hide his face in his chest. At this point he had fully slipped.
And Tamaki, being the great friend that he is, didn’t hesitate to wrap his arms around him in a loving embrace and whisper soft things into his ear to calm him down.
All the other hosts looked a little confused, but Tamaki made it seem like an every day thing. Comforting him as if he’s done it a thousand times.
Being in the arms of the blonde, it didn’t take him long to calm down. His was no longer freaking out, but even so, he didn’t want to leave his friends embrace.
Out of embarrassment or fear of freaking out again, he wasn’t sure.
That is until another certain blonde came through the door.
Honey looked very worried and concerned.
“Takashi!” He yelled running over to him. Immediately he wrapped his arms around his neck. Mori gently broke off from Tamaki and wrapped his arms around his cousin.
“Mitsukuni...” He mumbled into his hair.
“Is that the reason he got to upset earlier? Because he wasn’t with Honey-Senpai?” Hikaru asked them.
“Yes, I had to go back to my class really fast so I could get one of my books I forgot and I told Takashi to wait for me by the window. He must’ve slipped and forgot about it, so he got scared. I’m just glad he found you guys. Thanks for watching and taking good care of him Tama-Chan!” Honey thanked them smiling gleefully.
Instead of smiling back, the others were rightfully confused.
“Why do you mean Mori-Senpai slipped?”
“Yeah and he’s been away from you before Honey-Senpai, why did it make him so sad now?” The twins asked one after the other.
Tamaki was surprisingly quiet and Kyoya was just waiting for an explanation. He was quite intrigued.
However, before anyone could say anything, Haruhi was the only one to notice what was actually going on.
“Mori-Senpai, how old are you?” She asked gently and softly. She lowered and softened it as if she was talking to a child, which she had a feeling that she was.
Honey gasped then smiled, in all honesty he wasn’t very surprised that Haruhi was the one to figure it out first.
Mori put up three fingers, before switching to two.
Kyoya’s eyes went wide.
He understood now.
“How long have you been?...” He asked, like Haruhi he had softened his voice. He sounded calming and concerned. He really was the mom of the group.
“For a few months now. I help him and watch over him so he doesn’t get hurt.” Honey explained.
“Would you guys please just tell us what you’re talking about? It makes no sense!” Tamaki exclaimed trying not to be too loud since he was right beside Mori.
“Is it ok if I tell them?” Honey asked. Once receiving a head nod from his cousin, he started his explanation.
Mori figured they’d want an explanation anyways, why not just tell them everything.
After all, they were a family.
No.
Wait.
They were his family.
“Takashi is a little.” Honey told them. Mori nodded.
The twins looked confused for a sec before figuring out what he meant.
“A little what?” Tamaki asked.
Everyone started laughing.
Even though it wasn’t that funny, they all thought it was.
“No, Senpai, what he means is that he regresses. To deal with stress.” Haruhi explained to him.
Ohhhhhhh.
It took Tamaki a few seconds before the realization hit him like a truck.
“Ohhhh. Awwww.” He couldn’t help but coo. He vaguely remembered them talking about that and he always thought it was absolutely adorable, and has even considered trying it once or twice but reprimanded himself because it was ‘too childish’. He’d spent so much time trying to convince himself that he shouldn’t, he kinda forgot about it all together.
“Why didn’t he tell us in the first place?” Kaoru asked.
“Probably because he was afraid. Which is understandable, this stuff can be very personal to some people.” Kyoya explained to him who nodded.
“Well now that we do know, if you ever need someone to watch you, we’ll always be available.” Tamaki offered, smiling at the little.
Not used to getting so much attention, Moi started blushing a bit. He didn’t know why he was so nervous to tell his friends, no, his family something like this.
He must’ve been pretty silly if he thought that they would mock him or judge him for this.
“Thank you! I know he doesn’t really express it often, but I know he’s very happy to have you guys as friends and that are willing to help him.” Honey told them. And in all honesty, he was happy too. Happy that his friends were so open and accepting for them.
“Well we’re a family, families help each other. Now, how about we get some snacks, I bet everyone’s a little hungry.” Tamaki suggested. They others all agreed and started making their way towards the food.
Mori and Honey walked hand in hand. Like they should be.
“I’m sorry I left you alone when you were small. I promise it won’t happen again.” Honey apologized. He felt a little guilty about it.
“Iss ok.” Mori said softly. It wasn’t like his usual voice. This one definitely made him sound like a child.
They smiled at each other before joining the others.
Mori was glad he told them.
And now, he felt closer to them than ever before.

Chapter Summary: Kirishima takes home a hair dye buddy without either of them realizing the implications.
Warnings: Attempted Stealing Mention, Fighting Mention, Cursing, Injury Mention, Drunk Mention, Child Abuse Mention, let me know if I should tag anything else.
Notes: Thoughts look like ‘this’.
Hair Dye Buddies: Chapter 1
Kirishima really never thought he'd be in this position. But his roots were nearly two inches now and he'd made the excuse of wearing a hat far too often lately. It was better to just get it done. Just a quick run for some hair bleach and his usual red dye.
While there, he saw a boy his age looking at brown hair dyes, wearing a hoodie with the hood covering his hair. Hah! So he wasn't the only one on a midnight hair dye run. He looked like he was having problems as he read over the instructions.
"Find a good one?" He asked.
'Great way to start a conversation with the poor dude, Eijiro.' Big blue eyes looked up like he'd been caught doing something he shouldn't. Kind of like a kid in trouble.
"Huh? Oh, I um...I don't know which one will work." The other seemed more than shy, almost like he hadn't expected someone to notice him, or for everyone to ignore him. Like he was used to it.
"Sorry for buggin ya man. Ya know, that brand wears out easy. This one stays longer." He tapped the light brown box of dye of the brand he'd picked. The boy put back the other box and hesitantly took the brown box of dye he'd recommended.
He seemed rather skittish even while Kirishima checked out and he saw the kid putting the dye in his jacket. Oh. OH. He was skittish because he didn't have money for the dye. Kirishima went back to him and tapped his shoulder, earning a wince but the kid looked at him and scared eyes got impossibly more frightened.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'll put it back." The kid promised.
"Hey, it's no big deal. I get it, okay? Here." He stuck his hand out and the kid handed him the brown dye with bandaged hands. "C'mon." Kirishima led him to the registers and paid for the brown dye and handed it to him.
"Thank you." The kid whispered.
"No problem! I hope it turns out well, man." Kirishima smiled brightly and the kid headed out quickly and Kirishima followed, coming out to see a burly guy bugging the kid.
"You think you can just change your hair color to hide from me!?" Kirishima didn't quite think, setting his hair dye down and rushing to take the punch the kid was about to take with his hardening practically breaking the guy's hand.
"You've got an attack dog now!?" The guy yelled.
"Fuck off dude! He's a kid!" Eijiro snapped at the guy.
"He owes me!" The guy roared.
"He doesn't owe you shit, he's just a kid!" The hero-in-training snapped back.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry." The kid tried to apologize for his new involvement.
"It's okay, kid." Eijiro assured him. "Why's this guy bothering you?"
"He hurt me after he said I could stay with him. I ran away. I was trying to hide." The kid told him.
"You're safe, kid. I won't let him near you." He promised.
"Gimme the kid! He got hurt because he owes me!"  Kirishima decked the guy and he was down for the count now.
"I'm sorry." The kid apologized again.
"It's okay. I'm a hero-in-training. It's my job to protect people like you from guys like him." The kid handed him his bag with his bleach and dye.
"You put this down." The kid whispered.
"Thanks, dude. You wanna walk this guy to the station with me and I'll get you home?" Eijiro asked.
"I should be fine."
"Come on, kid." He led him along to the station and dropped the guy off. "Now where do you live?" The kid looked around to find an exit and it hit him harder than he thought it should. The guy who hassled him had housed him. He ran away. He didn't have a home to take him back to.
"Come on, kid." He began leading him to UA, texting Aizawa that he had a friend coming over. "My name's Kirishima, by the way. Kirishima Eijiro." He smiled at his new friend.
"Todoroki Touya." The kid whispered.
"Huh, I didn't know Shoto had a cousin named Touya." Kirishima muttered.
"Shoto is my brother." Touya told him.
"Oh, then I could have Mr. Aizawa extend your stay as a family visit!" Kirishima smiled, hugging him close.
"Okay." Touya quietly followed and looked up at the UA building before Kirishima faced him toward the dormitories across from it. Aizawa was waiting for them, cat in arms and looking quite unhappy.
"Heyo, Mr. Aizawa, here's Touya. Harmless as a fly." Touya looked at the Pro Hero and waved a bit.
"And you said he's your 'bestie' and 'hair dye buddy'?" Aizawa asked groggily.
"Yes, sir! He's just visiting for a bit. I also happened to find out he's one of Todoroki's brothers on the way here." Aizawa eyed him up and down.
"And I got a call from the station you turned in a man harassing him for a hold in the drunk tank?" Aizawa asked.
"Yeah, the guy was reeking of booze and Touya here is like half his size and I came out to see this guy buggin' Touya saying he couldn't just change his hair color to hide." Kirishima explained.
"What did that guy mean, Touya?" Aizawa was now leading them to the dorms.
"Well, I mean. My father kicked me out about a month ago and that guy found me and took me home two weeks ago but all he did was treat me like a maid and would hit me all the time. I thought maybe if I ran away and dyed my hair he'd forget about me." Touya was quiet, which helped with the dorms they were passing by.
"Shitty Hair, you're finally back. I wanted to ask you if you'd be willing to dye my hair brown next time you dye yours...red." Bakugou stopped when he saw Aizawa and Touya. "Okay, tell me why I see a goth Todoroki. And where's his scar?" Touya looked at Bakugou and looked confused.
"Bakugou, this is Touya, Todoroki's brother. He's going to be staying in the dorms temporarily until we reach a good decision of where he's going." Bakugou's brows furrowed.
"Alright. Anyway. Kiri, about my hair. Next time can you pick up light to medium brown and make my hair look like my dad's?"
"Yeah, sure!"
"Bakugou." Touya piped up.
"What, Cotton Candy?" Bakugou asked.
"Here." he handed the box of brown dye to Bakugou. "I was going to dye my hair to hide from a creep but I guess I don't really need to anymore since Kirishima turned him in. It's light brown."
"I like this one. We're stealing him into our friend group, Eijiro." Katsuki announced.
"I had a feeling you'd like him." Eijiro smiled, dragging Bakugou along to his room with Touya and Aizawa following behind.
"What's up, Old Man, you wanna supervise or something?" Bakugou asked as he opened the brown box of dye.
"I'd actually like to talk to Touya about his father and what happened." Aizawa told him.
"Oh, it's okay if they know, I don't mind." Touya whispered.
"You said your father kicked you out. Why is that?" Aizawa asked. Bakugou looked furious now and Kirishima seemed mad. Touya shrunk into himself even before he answered.
"Shoto is his prodigy, he doesn't need me anymore. And, when he gets tired of his toys, he destroys them. He beat me within an inch of my life and threw me out. I survived on my own for two weeks and then that guy, Ryuu, found me and took me to his house. He kept me like a maid and would beat me if things weren't perfect. I ran away from him this afternoon and I was going to change my hair color and run away to somewhere else." Touya admitted.
"Alright. So we'll be keeping you here until we can find a suitable housing situation. How old are you?"
"16, I turn 17 in January." Touya confirmed.
"So while you're here, I'll have you enrolled and you'll be staying with my class for the foreseeable future. Given you've already made friends on this level, there's an empty room next to Bakugou's that'll become yours and I'll put a chair in the classroom for you." Aizawa told him. "Now I'm sure Bakugou and Kirishima can help you with a lot for now, I need to sleep and so do you kids after you're done with the hair dye. If you have any injuries, follow me back to the teacher dorms to be healed by Recovery Girl, but, otherwise, you can stay here." Aizawa added.
"Get some sleep, Mr. Aizawa!" Kirishima called after him.
"Be quiet." Came someone's reaction before the trio burst out laughing and went down to the commons to do Kirishima and Bakugou's hair.
"Okay, so I need to bleach my roots first and you don't need bleach." Kirishima began and Touya, for the first time in his life, felt like he was home even as Bakugou sat with brown dye finishing in his hair and Kirishima was washing out the bleach and drying his hair out for his own color. He felt wanted, finally.
