CLEAN ME UP
c/w: established relationship, hurt/comfort, light mentions of blood and injury, atsumu lowkey gets his ass beat </3 but he is so sweet
Tumblr media
Atsumu sits crisscrossed on the floor of your bathroom with a tender black eye and a busted lip—and though this should be a rare thing, you need all five fingers to count the number of times you’ve seen this film before.
The first two were ages ago, high school days when he and Osamu couldn’t stop themselves from throwing a punch or two over nothing at all. Their egos too big and brains too small, twice you'd gotten roped into their post-brawl aftercare. Another time it was a fight off the court, when a rival captain made a snide remark about his foul accent. The fourth, a drunken, immature mistake.
Tonight’s wounds are different. Because when Atsumu nonchalantly shows up black and blue at your door, he doesn’t tell you what happened. There’s no story attached to the bruises he bares, no lengthy explanations or excuses. And Atsumu is a lot of things, but speechless is never one of them.
He looks childish, you think, the way his broad body folds itself into a tiny pretzel and hardly takes up a corner of your tiled floor. He’s oddly quiet, too. Sure, you heard his witty comments down the hallway about how you should see the other guy, but something’s still off. His eyes aren't lit with their usual flame of youth, pride.
Only a few words are exchanged through the process of cleaning him up. Between wet washcloths and tiny sniffles, Atsumu fumes, You haven't asked enough questions yet, and it’s beginning to freak him out. He doesn't know whether or not he should be grateful or unsettled with your silence.
A frozen bag of vegetables presses against his left eyelid when you finally ask, "What the hell did you do this time?"
Atsumu smiles at the mere sound of your voice, an instant warmth against the burning ice on his body. "Why's it always my fault?"
You remove the bag from his brow to shoot him a look, that look. He knows better than to argue with that look. Arguing with that look gets him nothing but trouble and an achy back from a night on the couch. So, he diverts.
"Nothing,” he sulks. “He started it, and—"
"—And you finished it, right?"
Your words are meant to be sarcastic, at his dispense of how stupid he behaved, but Atsumu doesn't take them as such. Instead, at your interruption, he shoots you an earnest smile filled with satisfaction and dried blood stretched across his chapped lips.
"See? So smart, baby."
His hand rises to pet your chin but you lean back quick enough to dodge his caress. His eyes fall to the bag of vegetables that now sits by your lap.
“Atsumu,” you try again, foreboding.
He rolls his head back in a huff against the bench of the bathtub, and the ceramic feels warm against his neck compared to the still stinging chill on his eye.
“What was I supposed to do? They were bein’ assholes.”
His whole team had gone out drinking tonight for a celebratory round or five, followed by a few days off. And as charming as Atsumu is, he does have his foes. People in the volleyball world he’s not the biggest fan of, for reasons he doesn’t seem to discuss with you. He likes to leave it at his good intuition, something you know he lacks.
With the context clues provided, you can think of two or three people he’s implying.
His reasoning is flawed, to say the least, but the way he says it has your heart breaking in the slightest. He avoids eye contact, as if he's embarrassed, dancing around the subject and wishing the ground to swallow him whole.
His shyness has you trying a softer approach.
“Everyone is an asshole,” you whisper, lightly returning pressure to his eye with the makeshift ice, “if punching assholes was reasonable, I’d do it all the time.”
Atsumu smiles a bit at that, but you catch how he winces slightly at the movement.
“Yer so funny, baby,” he tries to trail off. “Funniest person I—”
“Miya,” comes his second warning, and by the look in your eye, he’s not brave enough to try for a third.
“Fine,” he grumbles, “but when yer a Miya, I’m playing that card on you, too. Y’know that, right?”
You nod, and whether it's to his proposal or to encourage his words, you don't know. But it works, because Atsumu takes a deep breath and stares at the ceiling again.
“This time was different, okay?”
His tone is eerily soft. One only you get the privilege of hearing, and not because it's out of love, but because it's out of hate. Something’s shaken him so bad, he’s almost been rendered speechless.
“How was it different?”
“They were talking about you,” he shakily exhales. “Sayin’ stupid shit that isn’t true.”
Your heart softens as you do your best to keep a strong facade, but maybe Atsumu does have good intuition, as his hand squeezes yours through the quick moment of silence.
“If it’s not true, then it shouldn't have mattered, right?” you try.
“No,” he’s quick to work himself up again, eyes finding yours. “Like hell was I gonna let ‘em keep talking about you like that, ‘specially when I’m right fuckin’ there.”
Your fingers lightly skim his jaw, nowhere sensitive but he jumps all the same. You apply pressure to tilt his head, forcing him to find your gaze. He does.
“Do you want to tell me what they said?”
Atsumu gaze softens, and after a moment of thinking, he shakes his head.
“No,” he decides, “I don’t.”
His eyes fall to your lips and back up to your eyes. “Do you want to know?”
You smile at his sincerity. Atsumu, who you know to be just as sweet as he is boisterous, would tell you if you asked. He’d do anything you ask. But, you decide against it.
“No. No, I don’t.”
Atsumu exhales a breath he didn't realize he was holding as he lets his head nuzzle against your palm. Contrary to the ice, it's warm and soft on his skin. He thinks it could heal wounds faster than any bag of broccoli ever could.
“I trust you,” he hears you coo into his hairline, kisses now dancing along his forehead and jaw, “even if you do have the emotional intelligence of a middle school boy, sometimes.”
Astumu hmphs at your words, simultaneously agreeing and brushing you off. He doesn't care enough to bicker, right now. He doesn’t need to tell you about how the man from the bar was talking about you. About how easy you’d be to persuade into bed. About how you're just with Atsumu for his flashy perks and award winning smile.
He doesn't need to because he knows they're wrong. Because they don't see these moments, when Atsumu sits on the ledge of your empty bathtub. With popped blood vessels and tender welts, those men don't melt beneath your careful fingertips or soothing pecks.
He doesn't have to say anything, because you trust him. You trust Atsumu, and it's the one thing in this world he knows to be true.
He lifts his head up from your hold to find your lips.
“I jus’ love you,” he insists, lightly pressing himself to you with such caution, “so much.”
And if there’s one thing in this world you know to be true, it's that Miya Atsumu loves you.

hi there!! you have wonderful work :) i was wondering if you could write for akaashi, kuroo, and atsumu with a girlfriend who finds out her friends are fake (talking crap, bullying her, etc.). i just wanna know what the boys would do about it. im sorry if this is too specific!
a/n: AHHH my first request!! Don't worry anon, this isn't too specific :), thank you hsjdhsjahdj
Fake Friends
Includes: Akaashi, Kuroo, Atsumu (separately) x Fem!reader
cw: cussing, bullying, spitting, hitting, hair pulling, slapping, implied slapping, corny chemistry joke.
Tumblr media
Akaashi wasn't too concerned about friendships, relationships, or anything of the like. That's what he used to think, until he met you.
Before he met you, he would walk home alone, he would only hang out with his team when they celebrated a win. But now he has someone to walk with him, someone to hold when he needs the comfort. He has someone who he can rant to when he needs to.
Those few things are the reasons why he loves you so much. But he wonders if he's ever going overboard when ranting to you. He never hears your side of things, he never hears you complain about things. He wonders why. Maybe you're just not comfortable with sharing?
He finds out the reason after just a few days of worrying.
Akaashi came to pick you up from your class, ready to walk you to your next like usual. But he hears some noises, which isn't out of the ordinary. But he hears girls saying mean things, almost like they're patronizing someone.
And when Akaashi opens the door a little wider, not enough to be seen but enough to see what is going on, he sees you. You're at your seat, head down while your hair covers your face. Three girls surround you.
One points her finger at you, "what gives you the right to think you can blow us off?" She gives you a stern look. But this wasn't something a friend would say, no. She said it in a vial and cruel tone.
"You should know by now that you're nothing but a dog for us."
Another girl laughs at the statement, her hand covering her lips as she looks down at you. The third girl sits on the desk facing you.
"Answer me, you bitch!" The first girl grabs your hair, which makes you look up at her. Tears are flowing down your cheeks.
"Aww, she's crying. Fucking pathetic." The girl sitting on the desk starts laughing at seeing your tears. She puts her hand out, showing her rings to your face, "come on, mutt. You know what to do."
Just as you're about to lean forward to kiss her rings, Akaashi stalks towards the girls and slaps the girl's hand out of your face. He has an angry expression on his face, his eyebrows furrowed and his lips in a straight line.
"What gives you the right to treat my girlfriend like a dog?!"
Akaashi clenches his jaw. He's seen enough, no wonder why you were always so quick to do something for him. You're used to this kind of treatment.
You look to the side, eyes wide at the seen in front of you. "Keiji, it's not what you think!" Akaashi's head snaps over to you, are you really defending these girls? How long have you been accustomed to this kind of behavior?
But Akaashi doesn't respond, he only grabs your hand and leads you out to the hallway. "Those aren't your friends. Do you understand?"
You can only nod in response, your eyes brimming with tears, afraid that he's mad at you now. But Akaashi pulls you into his chest, hiding your face from anyone who passes.
"Don't let people like that control you, Y/n. You're too good for that."
Tumblr media
Kuroo had a goofy smile on his face, ready to tell you another science joke. He knows you hate them, that you cringe every time you hear one. But you still smile at him, you still laugh at his stupid jokes.
He rounds the corner, about to make it down to your street, but he catches sight of five people on the sidewalk in front of him.
Two boys and two girls surround another person that is sitting on the ground. They all have a big smile on their faces as they yell at the fifth person. Kuroo isn't one for confrontation, when he sees something like this happening, he usually just threatens to call their parents or something of the like.
But as he walked closer, he realized that you're the one on the ground, a big, ugly handprint on your cheek. Your head is down, tears streaming down your face. Kuroo can't even imagine how you managed to fall to the ground.
All thoughts leave his mind when he sees one of the boys lean down and spit on your shirt. Kuroo's eyes widen, and he grits his teeth. Did that scumbag really just do that?!
"What makes you think you can be with Kuroo?" He hears one of the girl's voices shouting at you. She points her finger at you and sneers, "did you get with him because you knew I like him? Answer you ugly whore!"
Kuroo grows tired from hearing these words. He walks over to the scene, but not before hearing an insult from one of the boys.
"You're such a fucking pig. Always stealing guys, you'd really let anyone use you, huh." He laughs.
Kuroo starts walking faster, and once he gets to the scene, he grabs the guy's shirt, pulling him back and pushing him. The guy falls to the floor and looks up, he glares at Kuroo.
But before anyone can try to throw a punch or slap, Kuroo grabs your hand and takes off, running down the street.
Once you both get to a safe and secluded place, he immediately pulls you into a hug. Your tears start flowing down your face as you hug him back.
"Carbon and hydrogen went on a date. I heard they really bonded."
You pull back from the hug and playfully slap Kuroo's chest, "'s stupid." He smiles when he hears you laugh through the tears.

You never thought you would be dating Astumu Miya. You always thought his fangirls were a bit too much, and maybe they'd even threaten you.
But now you're having the time of your life because of him. Every worry ceases to exist when you're around him. He just has that effect on you.
But that doesn't mean his fangirls wouldn't try to hurt you in any way.
Over the time your relationship started, you gained new friends. You didn't recognize them as Astumu's fangirls, so your worries were unfound. Oh, how wrong you were.
One of his fangirls, Hana, managed to squeeze her way into your life. She was nice at first, gaining your trust, making you feel good around her. She was so nice that you considered her your best friend.
But once she gained your trust, she immediately turned against you. She would copy you, steal your clothes when she slept over, blame you for things that aren't your fault - she would do everything in her power to make you feel horrible.
Astumu didn't catch wind of this problem until a few months after it started. At first, he thought that you two were super close. He thought that someone was on your side.
But he knew he was mistaken when he started noticing the signs of her behavior changing. One of the main things he noticed was when you tried to talk, she would interrupt you and start talking about her day or other trivial things. She would take credit for your ideas. She even stole the necklace that he gifted you for your third mensiversary.
Astumu could only sit back and watch you let this happen. He knew that you didn't have many friends, so you didn't want to lose her.
But after a few more months, he knew that he had to put a stop to this. He knew when he saw you looking at yourself in the mirror after your 'friend' told you to lose some weight.
"Astumu would look better with someone who doesn't look like," she paused, "that."
While you were talking to Astumu in your bedroom, he comes over frequently, with your 'friend.' She interrupted you again as she stood up and smiled at him.
"Y/n, just stop talk-"
She was cut off by Astumu's glare, his jaw clenched, and his eyebrows furrowed. He looked pissed, and the girl had her eyes widened at his expression.
"When my girl speaks, you sit and fucking listen."
His tone was harsh, cruel, making the girl sit immediately.
But she couldn't listen to another word, she was scared out of her mind. She huffed and stormed out of your bedroom, grabbing her coat and shoes as she ran off.

[And After?]
(kind of a part II but could be read as a stand alone)
You broke up with Atsumu your final year of high school.
Was it because you both would be in separate areas of Japan and you didn’t want to go long-distance? Partially.
But when you uttered those words, you both knew that wasn’t the real reason.
You stood in front of him, eyes downcast and refusing to meet his.
“I’m leaving for Yokohama. I got accepted to university there.”
His eyes widened and you smiled wryly.
“No congratulations?”
“Congratulations.” Atsumu couldn’t help but say flatly.
“I’m guessing you’re going to continue volleyball.” You felt a tinge of regret. You hadn’t bothered to ask him about scouts or recruitment.
He nodded. “I’ve already gotten offer...None close to Yokohama though.”
You gave him a small smile and shrugged in what you hoped looked like a nonchalant way. “I want to focus on my studies and I don’t think I’ll be able to do that if I’m trying to make a long-distance relationship work.”
His hand clenched and his eyes took on a stubborn look that usually signalled the beginning of an argument. “I’ll make it work. I can come visit and I’ll make time when I’m not practising to call and -”
“Atsumu.” He ached at the resignation in your voice.
“‘Tsumu, I need to get away from here. Just start again y’know.”
His eyes flitted toward the boot on your ankle and you unconsciously shifted in discomfort, at the real reason why you were making the decision. He cursed - at it and the entire situation and you couldn’t help but blink back the tears forming at the corners of your eyes. It wasn’t his fault - it was entirely yours.
There was a thud and a ‘oh my god’ rang out from the women’s volleyball captain.
Atsumu was beside you in an instant. He had watched, wide-eyed in horror, as your leg had crumpled, taking you down with it.
“Give her space,” the captain’s voice rang out as you clutched at your ankle, face twisted in pain. “What even happened?”
“I tripped -,” you spit out through clenched teeth. Atsumu saw how your foot had been wrenched in a position it should never be in and felt a rising panic he tried to stifle. Years of experience on the court told him that this was not a minor injury.
You looked up at him with pleading eyes, and he scooped you up, speeding away to the nurse’s office and away from the pitying looks of your teammates.
You groaned in pain and looked at him with panicked eyes. “Atsumu, this-”
“You’ll be fine. It’s okay, it’s going to be fine.” He chanted as if it would make it true.
Your skin had already turned purple and the area surrounding your ankle had swollen up bigger than an egg. You whimpered, both at the pain shooting up your leg and fear of the consequences of what just happened to you.
A trip to the hospital later and you found yourself hobbling back to school in a few days, ankle held tightly in a brace and leaning against crutches. You knew your ankles were weak from a few sprains over the years and they finally gave up and the muscle had torn.
Atsumu had held you while you sobbed as the doctor told you that you couldn’t play for the rest of your final year and most likely needed rehab for longer than that. He was there, waiting outside the classroom to carry your bag between classes and helped you around school. He was there when he found you, squatting with your back against the outside of the gym doors, crying about how unfair it was and he was there to shush you when you beat yourself up for being so clumsy.
It took a while, but eventually you came around and accepted the situation - well you made your peace with it as best you could. You focused on steadily on doing rehab exercises, gritting your teeth and sweating through the pain. You began to joke around again, bickered with Atsumu as you held hands in the school corridors when you graduated to just wearing a boot, and went back to chatting animatedly with your friends.
Atsumu had tried to be positive and not treat you any differently to maintain some sort of normalcy. But when he realised you no longer came to watch the teams practice, he found it hard to swallow the lump in his throat and felt his chest tighten. He stopped looking towards the stands at games, knowing you weren’t there, and forced a fake smile that reflected yours when you politely congratulated him on his wins. He’d never felt such helplessness whenever he caught you staring absent-mindedly out of the window during class, your eyes dull and shoulders slumped.
“The change will be good for me and I don’t - I don’t really want anything to do with volleyball anymore," you said, confessing what he’d known all year.
“It might seem dramatic because I know I can do PT and get better again but I’ll never be back to how I used to play.” You shrugged again casually and he hated it.
“And honestly? I was tired of it anyway. I can’t remember a time I haven’t had bruises or walked without stressing about getting hurt. I like waking up at a normal time and not at the ungodly hours of the morning and not having to force myself to exercise or eat a certain diet. I want to go somewhere completely new and live life free without remembering how difficult all that was.”
Atsumu felt hollow. “But you loved volleyball so much you never minded that before?” He wanted to yell. But he knew it was hopeless - you were determined to throw volleyball away and he was always going to be a part of that.
And so, you were throwing him away too.
“Don’t worry, I’ll still be cheering you on, even if I’m not there,” you gave him another smile that he wanted to scream at.
He couldn’t bear to see how hard you were forcing yourself to be normal and he pulled you into his arms and squeezed tightly, as if you’d disappear right then and there.
“We can keep in touch okay?”
He nodded into your shoulder, not trusting himself to say anything that could drive you any further away than you were already were. He knew you well after dating you these past couple of years. He knew how stubborn you could be about certain things and while he was equally as stubborn, he didn’t want to end things with the two of you screaming and arguing. He needed to accept that you needed to heal and that you didn’t want his help in doing so.
Your hand stroked the back of his hair affectionately, untangling the knots and failing to soothe him.
“I’ll see you around, Atsumu.”
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few years passed. You survived university and you managed to get a job back in Osaka at an arts museum and were grateful that your hard work had paid off. You got a new apartment, dated here and there, and went out with friends. All in all, you were content with your life.
And some nights after work, you’d make a cup of tea,
snuggle into some blankets on your couch,
grab the remote,
and watch the MSBY game.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You loved being at the museum. Everything was neat, orderly, and most importantly, quiet. The silence, save for soft murmurs, was comforting. You didn’t have to speak much and spent most of your day hanging out with paintings. It was a stark change from the sounds of balls smashing against wooden floors, sneakers squeaking, and the constant cheers of teammates. Playing such a team-oriented sport had forced you to be around people all the time and you savoured being able to introspect and have alone time now.
You were in a particularly good mood that day. The cute barista had drawn a flower on your cup, you managed to get on the bus on time, and a new exhibit with one of your favourite artists had just begun.
You weaved in and out of different rooms, occasionally writing down information on your ipad regarding the works to present at a meeting later. The muffled atmosphere was music to your ears until you heard a loud laugh accompanied by not-so-silent whispers.
Ugh who is being so disruptful? Do they not know basic etiquette for places like this?
The voices grew louder as you walked in that direction and you shook your head. Probably some youths who didn’t know respect.
You strode into the room ready to scold some rambunctious teen boy when you locked eyes with a very familiar blonde-haired guy.
He had put his hand by his face in an attempt to whisper to a girl beside him and had frozen with his mouth open when he saw you. You kept a straight face as you walked forward, catching yourself nearly snorting at the “caught-with-his-hand-in-the-cookie-jar” expression he had.
“Excuse me sir,” you said sternly, “I’m not sure if you read the sign outside, but you are supposed to keep your voice down here.” He straightened stiffly at your tone and the girl he was whispering to looked at you with alarmed eyes.
“I-I’m sorry ma’am.” She stuttered out.
Atsumu tried to stifle a laugh, saving himself by coughing as your eye twitched. Ma’am? I’m not a grandma.
You whipped your attention to him. “And I’ll have you know that we don’t have any exceptions - even for superstar volleyball players.” Your voice was cold but your eyes held a familiar shine, and he relaxed. He made a note that you still sucked at having a poker face and he could tell you weren’t actually mad.
“What about the handsome ones?” He said grinning but faltered when you didn’t crack. Perhaps he didn’t know you as well as he used to.
You finally sighed and Atsumu mentally danced in victory as you finally gave up your act. “Especially the handsome ones. We hold those to an even higher standard.”
“What are you doing here?” he demanded and you shushed him, dragging him out of the room.
“What are you doing here?” he said whispering this time.
“I work here. What are you doing here?” you shot back, “Since when do you go to places like this?”
“Actually he’s been into art for a few years now,” you turned to see Osamu walking towards you grinning. “Hi y/n.”
“'Samuuu,” you greeted and gave him a hug while Atsumu twitched at the exchange.
“Yeah well I -,” the setter said, scratching the back of his kneck and looking uncomfortable, “It’s an important part of society and culture and stuff.” It's not like he used Osamu to mildly stalk you over the years or anything weird like that.
You looked at him incredulously. "And you chose to come here?”
“No, my fiance wanted to go,” Osamu cut in. “Apparently it has one of the best collections.”
The blonde girl who Atsumu had been whispering to peeked from behind his figure waving. “Hi!”
You blinked, surprised. You had assumed the beautiful girl was Atsumu’s girlfriend. Not that you cared of course.
The three of you exchanged pleasantries, Osamu mainly driving the conversation. His restaurant was doing well apparently and he and the girl were due to be married in a month or so.
“Congratulations!” you squealed, beaming at the both of them.
“Yer welcome to come,” Osamu said winking and you giggled. Osamu was always easy to talk to and you were glad that hadn’t changed.
“I’ll have to see if I’m free,” you replied with a smile and internally pushed the thought of seeing Atsumu looking radiant in a suit and standing at the end of an aisle out of your mind.
Speaking of the man, he had been uncharacteristically quiet during the conversation - a fact that did not escape his twin.
“Well,” Osamu said, “Kaori wanted to check out the special exhibit so we’ll head there first.”
The now dark-haired brother dragged his fiance off and with that the two of you were left alone.
“I should head back-”
“How are you-”
Both of you stopped and he scratched the back of his kneck again. “Right yeah you have to work.”
You nodded. “I should go.”
He bit his lip and looked at the floor. You couldn’t help a small smile looking at such a large man looking so timid.
“Atsumu.” He glanced up, your eyes locked for the first time. It registered how he was a man now, the softer curves of his face had become more angular and he was even taller than before with a broader build as well.
“It was really nice to see you again.” A glimmer sparked in his eyes your statement.
“And we have some cool new exhibits coming up you know since you’re so interested in art and all now…” You trailed off as he shot you a breathtaking grin and you desperately tried to ignore the fact that you were still weak for it even after all these years.
“Yeah I saw some of the posters. I’ll drop by if I see something I like.” He winked and you almost rolled your eyes as you turned to swiftly walk away, heart pounding in your chest faster than it had in years.
Why did I have to blurt that out??? You groaned internally before speeding off to your meeting. You remembered the warm brown of his eyes. Yep. Definitely still weak. Damn it.
After that, Atsumu started showing up to the museum. Every Saturday in fact.
You did a double-take the first time you saw the setter standing in front of a painting with headphones on. You walked over to stand beside him and peeked at him, catching his attention.
“What are you doing here?” you found yourself parroting when he lowered his headphones.
“It’s a museum,” he said confused, “I’m looking at the artwork. You said to come by?”
“I-” you tilted your head to the side, a bit flustered at his re-appearance. Ah that was a stupid question why y/n why??
You bit your lip. You didn’t think he’d actually come. Wasn’t he busy??
“Okay, please enjoy our collections.” You said in a formal voice before walking away, cringing at your awkwardness.
But after a while, you began looking forward to Saturdays and would make an excuse to wander the halls to see where he was. He’d shoot you a toothy smile when he saw you before turning back to the works with a pensive face. Hasn’t he memorised the works by now? You shook your head as you headed back to your office. He did have poor memory from what you remembered.
As you sat down at your desk, you thought back to what happened years ago, remembering how overwhelming everything felt. It took all this time for you to become yourself again and it had taken nearly repressing most of high school to succeed in forgetting all the trauma.
But after seeing Atsumu, you remembered all the good that came with those times too. How you’d hit Atsumu with the volleyball the first time you met, the fighting and bickering that came after, and how surprising it was that the two of you ended up dating. How he used to walk you home after both your practices ended and helped you with your serves. How after your injury, he spent his time not practising nodding off beside you in the library to keep you company and his goofy smile when he saw you supporting him at games . He’d even show up at the part time job you took your final year in a desperate attempt to find something to occupy you during all the free time you suddenly had by pretending he was a customer. You fought back a smile.
Kind of like he was doing now.
You swung your feet as you sat on the edge of the fountain, the both of you sipping on iced coffees. He’d taken to accompanying you on your break and you’d often go to a nearby cafe together.
“Are you even allowed to be out in public like this? I mean Sakusa-san’s always in a cap and glasses whenever I see him in the news photos.”
“Omi hates being social to begin with so he’s extra paranoid when he goes out.” Atsumu shrugged before grinning cockily. That cockiness made you bristle in annoyance - a reflex of yours that hadn’t changed. “What, scared you’ll get caught in a scandal with me?”
“I just don’t want your fangirls coming after me,” you said flatly.
He scoffed in response. “Don’t tell me you’re scared of them?”
“I don’t want to be harassed about it. I’ll end up getting pushed around,” you frowned.
“As if,” he snorted, “You aren’t the type to be bullied so easily.” He felt the ghost of a volleyball slamming into his back and chuckled.
Your frown deepened in disagreement and Atsumu glanced at you before continuing. He never liked to see you doubt yourself. You used to be so confident, standing on the court steadfastly with your eyes alight with mischief. Even when you told him you got into university, there had been a prideful look on your face that he had been relieved to see.
“Though it might be a good idea to have a few photos snapped of us. Our PR team says I need to shake off this playboy image.”
“Image?”
An indignant noise erupted from the man beside you. “Contrary to popular belief, I am NOT a fuckboy. When do I have the time to sleep around? I’m either at practice, matches, or here with you!” He pouted and crossed his arms.
“I’m honoured that the great Atsumu Miya chooses to grace me with his presence during my busy work day,” you said dryly.
“Exactly, you’d be lucky to be caught with me,” he said, winking.
“Still a celebrity I see,” you said shaking your head and opted to look away to focus on the bustle of people around the plaza.
“I’m not bothering ya, right?” You looked at him, confused, as he kept his gaze on the passersby as well. “Ya know, from yer busy work day.”
“Since when do you care about things like that?” Miya Atsumu was not the type to ask permission to intrude on someone’s life.
“I didn’t know if it would be okay,” he said softly and in a tone much more serious than you expected. “To see you again. I know we tried to leave on good terms but…”
You knew what he was talking about. It was good terms - well the best you could do at the time but there was a sense of uneasiness. As if you lost something and you had been so eager to get away that you didn’t realise just what you lost. Seeing him again brought memories back, memories of a time that meant a great deal to you.
“Why do you come back then?”
“I can’t seem to stay away,” he said, chuckling weakly.
“Don’t tell me you haven’t gotten over me yet or something,” you teased, trying to lighten the mood. When Atsumu didn’t respond you felt your breath hitch as your throat felt suddenly tighten. You snuck a peek at him and when your gazes locked, both of you cleared your throats looking away quickly.
“Osamu’s wedding is next week,” he suddenly said, pulling you out of your thoughts.
“Oh right. He must be excited,” you smiled. It was nice that your friend had gotten such a happy ending.
“Want to be my plus one?”
“I believe I was invited.” You raised an eyebrow at him.
He mirrored your raised eyebrow and said, “What, so you’re bringing a plus one?” You laughed at his audacity in automatically thinking you didn’t.
“Maybe I am? You never asked me if I had a boyfriend ‘Tsumu.”
He frowned. “Well do ya? It’s hard to do better than me, you know.”
“Wow, you’re still a dick.”
“And you still dated me. So do you?”
You wanted to press your palms to your eyes in exasperation. How was he still the same?
“No I do not have a boyfriend, Atsumu.”
“What a coincidence,” he said, shooting you the toothy smile. “I don’t have one either so we can go together.”
“You don’t have a boyfriend?”
This time it was Atsumu that felt a surge of exasperation. “A date smartass. So it’s perfect if we go together.”
He cut off your noise of protest at his sudden declaration by waving his hand, “I think your break is almost over. I’ll text you more about it later okay?” he said and walked off, turning around once to frantically wave goodbye at you.
You gave a half-hearted wave before making a shoo-ing motion at him. As you watched him finally turn and leave, you felt your smile slowly fading. You wanted to keep Atsumu at a distance and you had a strong instinct to flee - to go back to ignoring that part of your life. But how could you? You stupidly still found him charming after all these years. Miya Atsumu was slowly managing to worm his way back into your life and you found you were reluctant to kick him out.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the insistence of his fiance, Osamu had decided to hold his wedding near the beach. You had been stunned at how pretty the venue was and admittedly a bit jealous at how gorgeous Kaori looked when she was showing you her wedding gown. You were also a bit nervous at spending a whole weekend with Atsumu around and knowing his personality, he would make sure he’d be harassing you the entire time.
Your suspicions were indeed correct. After you arrived at the hotel, you slid your key card into your room lock and found the red light blinking, preventing your access to a hot shower you desperately needed. You grunted in annoyance, dumping your heavy suitcase on the ground and aggressively slid the card in and out. The red light continued to greet you and you swore in response.
“Why is this not working??”
You heard a click and the door opened to reveal a damp Atsumu, towel slung around his neck and wearing nothing but boxer shorts.
“I thought I heard a sailor with a potty mouth,” he grinned, rubbing the end of the towel against his hair to dry it.
“Atsumu?? What are you doing in my room??”
“y/n I think you mean my room?”
“What? I’m in room 261?”
“You’re in 262,” he said simply and pointed down the hall.
You blinked at him and he snatched the card from your limp hand, lifting your discarded bag from the floor.
You spluttered uselessly as you trailed after him. He slid the card in and green light betrayed you. He easily opened the door and looked at you pointedly, “See this is what it looks like when you use the key for the right door.”
“Whatever,” you grumbled and just as you were about to thank him, he strolled through the door.
“What are you doing? I never said you could go in!”
“Nice,” he said looking around. “It’s the same as mine.”
“No shit,” you were about to say but yelped again when he dumped both your suitcase and himself on the bed.
“I swear your bed is softer,” he remarked as he laid sprawled out on his back.
“You’re getting it wettt,” you whined and he propped himself up on his elbows, his eyebrow lifting.
“You have a hot, shirtless pro-athlete on your bed and you’re complaining about the bed getting wet?”
“I think I’m more questioning why you have boxers with ducks on them,” you mocked trying to ignore that you did, in fact, have a hot, shirtless pro-athlete on your bed.
His lips stretched into a familiar shit-eating grin. “Maybe you’re just grouchy that YOU aren’t wet on the-.”
“MIYA ATSUMU,” you screamed, horrified as you rushed over to clamp a hand over his mouth. Of course, you being you, you nearly tripped as you reached the bed and you yelped as strong arms pulled you forward.
Your palms landed on a VERY solid chest and you looked up to see Atsumu’s face dangerously close to yours. Your eyes widened and you pushed yourself up only to have warm hands grip your thighs, stopping your attempt to get off of the offensive boy.
His eyebrows shot up as you sat, straddled on top of him. “Now we can change that if you-”
“UGH,” you threw your body weight to the side and tumbled off the bed.
“Nice to see you’re still clumsy.” He peered down at your dishevelled figure sitting on the floor glaring at him. “How you managed to play a sport, I’ll never know.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, Atsumu regretted it. He internally cursed as you refused to meet his eyes, lips twisting unhappily. His mouth was dry as he tried to smooth over his mistake.
 “I mean I didn’t-” He stammered.
“I don’t know if you recall Miya,” You nearly spit and you saw him flinch as you stood up putting your hands on your hips. “But I was an EXCELLENT volleyball player.”
Yours eyes flashed at him in a defiant way and he nearly fell for you all over again.
“Ehh but your serves kinda sucked.”
“Oh I don’t think you’re in a position to call my serves shit Mr. ‘Don't make me lose my focus or I’ll throw a temper tantrum’.”
“Though,” you pondered for a moment. “You don’t seem to mind people cheering nowadays.”
He sat up, a triumphant smile slowly spreading across his face this time. “Oho and how would you know that? Has someone been stalking my games?”
Your eye twitched and your mouth opened and closed. You wracked your brain desperately for a way to deny this without sounding stupid before settling for a lame, “Get out Miya.”
“You know if you wanna come watch all you have to do is ask, princess,” he said half-jokingly, half-hopeful that you would make the request.
“Leave Miya,” you repeated, refusing to acknowledge that you did want to see him play. “I’m going to take a shower and I don’t wanna see you when I get out,” you warned as you moved towards the bathroom.
“I can help you if you feel lonely~” he chuckled as he heard the door slam. Not wanting to push your wrath any further, he got up stretching before leaving the room.
He was greeted with a face identical to his standing outside the door.
“Ah so this is why you asked for the room next door to y/n.”
“You were listening? Creep.” He said, striding past Osamu towards his own room.
“I’m glad the two of you seem to be getting along,” he heard the amusement laced in his brother’s voice.
“Yeah,” Atsumu said softly with his hand paused on the handle of his door. “I hope we are.”
There was a silence between the two brothers and they distantly heard the sound of kids running down the hallways of the hotel somewhere.
“What? Too reluctant to leave her already?”
Atsumu grimaced and Osamu nearly threw his hands up. “I know you’re whipped but she’s next door ‘Tsumu.”
“Osamu,” Atsumu said in a serious manner that made his twin scrunch his face in concern. “I forgot my key card.”
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sun was setting as Atsumu blearily opened his eyes. He hadn’t had a nap in years and it felt weird to actually get some rest. He rolled over to grab his phone and saw a message from his brother.
If you plan on waking up anytime soon, we’ll be down at the beach.
He groaned and opted to scroll through instagram when he got another message.
[y/n]  is here too.
He remained unmoving on his back for a moment before groaning again and rolled his eyes up towards the ceiling at the bait his twin set. Pulling on a pair of red basketball shorts and throwing on an old Stussy shirt, he made his way down to the beach.
The sound of seagulls and crashing waves greeted him as his feet hit the sand. There were yells, the sounds of laughter, and he was surprised to see a volleyball net set up nearby. His eyes flitted towards Kaori blowing Osamu a kiss from across the net and froze as he saw a familiar figure yell at her about fraternising with the enemy.
There you were, face glowing with excitement, standing at the service line and spinning a volleyball in your hands. His feet took off towards the net before he could think and his gaze was glued to you as your palm made contact with the ball.
He could practically hear your ‘tsk’ sound as Osamu dug it up and he couldn’t help but worriedly look at your ankle as you crouched low. Kaori jumped to block and his heart pounded in anticipation.
You darted out and dove, sending the ball high into the air. You scrambled to quickly get up and jogged back, your eyes following the set arching back towards you.
Atsumu unconsciously held his breath as he watched you jump, feet kicked back behind you and arm drawn back - the orange sunset behind you highlighting your form.
A malicious smile spread across your face as you found Osamu jumping up to reach over the net and you spiked against his arms.
“OUT,” his fiance screamed as the ball ricocheted off the block and outside the court.
“C’mon ‘Samu,” Atsumu heard your teasing voice. “You must be getting old if you let me score off of you like that.” You finally noticed his figure by the makeshift court and perked up. “Oh, 'Tsumu’s awake!”
He finally let out a breath when he saw you and Kaori waving excitedly at him. “Atsumu! Come join us!”
“Aw, how is that fair,” Osamu’s teammates groaned. “You guys can’t have a professional player on your team!”
“Suck it up,” you stuck a tongue out at him. “Atsumu is mine so you can’t have him.” You laughed gleefully at the protest that came from the opposing side and you playfully nudged him as he came to stand beside you at the net.
He smiled down at you for a second and as you stared into his eyes, momentarily mesmerised. He looked at you with such familiarity and warmth and you couldn’t help but shyly smile in return.
Your gaze was interrupted by a low growl.
Atsumu’s eyes flitted up to meet his twin's through the net. “Pro or not, 'Tsumu you’re going down.”
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The games continued until the stars were coming out and you all settled around a fire, snacking on fruit as a reward for all the exercise. You felt the sand shift and Atsumu plopped down beside you.
“I didn’t know you played.”
You grimaced at the slight hint of betrayal in his voice.
“I can’t seem to stay away,” you laughed, repeating his words from the fountain. “I play some pickup games here and there.”
“...and you’re all healed now?”
“Yeah,” you said quietly. “I go to PT but the muscle has been healed for a while. I have to wear a brace when I play but it’s more out of caution.”
“It still creaks sometimes though,” you made a face.
“Still. It’s good to see you stand on a court again.”
You looked over and winced at the expression on his face. He had a wry smile that didn't suit his face and a distant look to his eyes.
“I’m sorry Atsumu.” His gaze remained trained towards the darkness of the ocean. “I realised I never apologised for treating you badly back then. I know it’s not an excuse, but I was angry and hurt and all I could think was to get away to protect myself. I couldn’t think about anything else - anyone else.”
A muscle flexed in his jaw. “I know. I know better than anyone but god y/n, I was there for you wasn’t I?” He couldn’t help the reproach in his voice. “And you,” he bit his lip. “You just threw me away.”
With those words, Atsumu realised what he’d been feeling since your breakup all those years ago - resentment. He felt guilty for doing so and he’d pushed it deep down but it was threatening to spill out from him now.
“‘'Samu quit playing and then you left,” he said hoarsely. “You both left me alone.”
“You had your team,” you tried to argue weakly.
“Wasn’t the same.” He shook his head, broad shoulders slumping and he tucked his knees up, resting his head on them. “And you said that you would always be there for me," he said in a small voice.
This boy - no this man - had done so much for you. Back in high school and now, he remained insistent on being by your side, even when you pushed him away.
“I’m sorry,” you repeated lamely. “I can’t thank you enough for supporting me and loving me then.”
“And I’m thankful that you’re in my life again.” You reached out a hand to cover his. His palm turned and he wrapped his fingers around yours. “I know I’m late,” you hesitated, gathering your courage before taking the plunge. “I’d like to be a part of yours again, if you’d let me.”
The blonde setter finally looked at you and his eyes crinkled in a joyful manner that suddenly made you see the image of a younger, teen Miya Atsumu - the one you had loved so much. You both felt something - as if you found a missing puzzle piece fallen on the floor - placed back into its rightful place.
“I’d like that."
Epilogue
“Relax, she said she’s running late right?” A sullen boy with raven curly hair pushed Atsumu towards the court. The stadium was already loud as people waited in anticipation for the MSBY match to start.
He nodded, repeating to himself that you indeed sent him a text earlier saying you would be late. Besides, they were just warming up. The match hadn’t started yet and there was plenty of time left.
The empty seat beside Osamu seemed to mock him as he recalled the time when he ached upon seeing it empty yet again. He shook his head as if to clear it as the whistle blew to signal the teams should start warming up their serves.
“WHOO let’s go ‘'Tsumu!”
His eyes couldn’t leave your figure, clad in his jersey, lifting both your arms in the air and shaking pom poms. He let out a smile, one goofy enough that Sakusa rolled his eyes as he mouthed an ‘i love you,’ towards the stands.
He looked away triumphantly at your stunned figure as the whistle blew, this time to signal the beginning of the match. He focused his mind toward the game giddily and cemented his resolve that they would win today.
Because the seat was finally filled. You were there.
Right where you were supposed to be.

growing up with all boys in your family has really helped you understand the chemistry in boys' heads that cause them to act out on their inner thoughts. it did not, however, help you get used to the icky things they did. while rolling around in mud and squishing bugs with bare hands was not your forte, you could definitely see the satisfaction to gain from it. well not really, but you always tried to see from others perspectives, especially when atsumu had told you that it was fun to step on frogs. you had asked what was so fun about it, which he replied with “it’s like whenever you put on makeup or whatever, it’s just fun!” all while showing you a toothy grin. you couldn’t really wrap your head around it and opted in shooting him a confused look with eyebrows raised and a curled upper lip. to which he just continued to smile and shoot you a thumbs up.
since you were young, atsumu has always been by your side. your first ever encounter with the boy was in the first grade when you fell at recess and got your pretty purple dress dirty. you cried and cried until you felt a warm hand grab your palm.
“woah, yer bleeding! that’s a big cut, it’ll leave an awesome scar!” looking up you saw a mop of brown hair and the same colored eyes. “Let's clean you up, yeah?” with a big ol’ pout on your face, you nodded and let the boy guide you inside to the water fountains in the hallways.
the water was cold, and it hurt like hell running along your wound, but you tried not to cry in order to not look like a big baby in front of the boy. “how’s ‘at feel hmm?” your eyes were red and puffy, and you had tear stains on your pink cheeks but atsumu had still thought you looked pretty. you mumbled out a ‘hurts’ and atsumu nodded. “well if i gave ya half of my strawberry sandwich will that make you feel better?” he smiled at you, hoping to see that cute smile of yours again. you sniffled and nodded, and he led you back outside to his lunchbox and secretly handed you half of the sandwich.
you bit into it and the corners of your mouth instantly lifted. it tasted exactly like the ones your mom had always made in the summer. turning around, atsumu had seen your chubby cheeks stuffed with food and whipped cream all over your mouth. he stared for a second and you turned to look at him too. a mumbled ‘what’ came out of your mouth, barely audible, to which he replied “nothin, yer just pretty.” a slight scowl adorned your face. your dress was ripped, you had dirt all over the fabric, and you were pretty sure that you had wood chips in your braids. you had thought that he was crazy, but then again that was something you had always admired about atsumu.
“do ya think yer mom will be able to sew that up?” you blinked once, twice and said “i don’t have a mom.” atsumu stared blankly at the floor and his lips turned into a straight line.
“well my mom can sew it up for you if ya’d like.” you sat on it for a while. it was a pretty dress and you didn’t want to throw it away, after all you had just gotten it last weekend as a gift for doing so well at your piano recital. plus it was your second favorite color, after pink obviously.
“okay, i’ll tell my dad after school” he nodded and stuck his hand out.
“i’m atsumu” he grinned widely.
timidly you shook his hand and responded, “i’m y/n.”
ever since that fateful day you guys had been stuck at the hip. it was easy in the beginning, all you had to do was follow atsumu around and hold the jar that he caught all the frogs and bugs in. he claimed that being the jar holder was the best job in the world! even going as far as comparing it to being a CIA agent guarding top secret weapons that could end humanity as you know it. of course you knew he was lying, but nonetheless, you were the designated jar holder. on special occasions osamu would hold the jar and he’d let you carry the net. on days like that you would just run around and chase butterflies, laughing away when you would miss entirely. astumu would pout because he wanted you to hold the jar (he really just wanted you to stay behind him and to talk to him), but then you would catch a butterfly and put it on his nose and it always brought back that goofy smile you loved.
being the bug carrier used to be the bain of your existence, but god was it so much easier then going through puberty with the boys. astumu was so sweet in your childhood but as he got older he did start to roughhouse with you and tease you. osamu on the other hand had just gotten more reserved but nonetheless he also roughhoused with you. nothing was worse than when you had gotten all pretty for school and the boys decided to put you in a headlock and nuggie you to death. you’d get so upset and give them the silent treatment until atsumu cracked and whined about how sorry he was and to not leave him because your his best friend. you just tilt your head the other way until osamu offers to make you a strawberry sandwich to which you turn and smile, “deal.” which always left atsumu with his jaw on the floor.
they’d hold your bag over their head, teasing you to grab it while you tippy toed and whined for them to give it back. they’d put you in a headlock and make you smell their BO. they’d rub their sweaty forehead on you. they’d fart and put you in a dutch oven. they just liked to terrorize you.
but what had especially sucked was when you had started puberty. all the boys had gotten was quite a bit of inches to their height and deeper voices, but you were stuck with gaining weight on your chest, thighs and behind. but what really set things off was when you had gotten your first period.
you called atsumu crying and speaking all kinds of gibberish that he couldn’t understand and then you hung up out of nowhere. so atsumu decided to drag osamu along with him to get down to this mystery. you hadn’t lived too far from them. maybe a few blocks down, nothing their bikes couldn’t handle. your dad let them in and he was happy they were there, because he had no knowledge on how to help or comfort you in these situations. you had locked yourself in your room, screaming at your dad and brothers to not bother you or you’d rip their limbs off. you could’ve asked one of your brothers girlfriends for advice, but you felt that maybe it was a little too weird, which definitely was not the case but 12 year old girls tend to exaggerate things.
softly, atsumu knocked calling out your name. you didn’t answer, atsumu had looked at his brother who just shrugged. slowly and quietly he opened the door, and in that split second you had flung a pillow at his face knocking him on the ground.
“ow, what the heck y/n!” atsumu yelled as he rubbed his nose.
“sorry i thought you were one of my brothers.” you held out your hand to pick him up.
you looked a mess. you had a baggy t shirt that belonged to one of your older brothers, some valentine’s day pajamas even though it was the middle of september, and your socks were mismatched. you looked like you had just gotten through a heartbreak, which was odd because atsumu could not recall you talking about a boyfriend or any of the sorts.
“what happened to you?” osamu inquired to which atsumu just nodded. you flushed and threw yourself on the bed, pushing your face into a pillow. you had muttered words but the twins didn’t hear a thing.
“what?” you huffed and repeated what you said, and again, the twins didn’t hear. “huh” you quickly sat up and yelled, “i got my period!” angrily in the heat of the moment and once you processed it you could feel yourself die of embarrassment.
a “so” and “what's that” were said simultaneously which led to atsumu being slapped upside the head by his twin.
“ow what was that for!” pouting, atsumu rubbed his head. osamu rolled his eyes at his older brother,
“remember when mom doesn’t feel good for at least a week each month?” atsumu’s face changed from one of confusion into one of realization.
“ohhh, so y/n’s bleeding from downstairs?” osamu nodded and you were furious.
you flung another pillow at both of them, “just shut up and get me ice cream!” the boys nodded and quickly ran downstairs and hopped on their bikes, peddling to the convenience store. after that encounter the boys had never tried anything with you while you’re on your period, even though you had gotten more mellow about it through the years.
but what really, REALLY sucked? you’re uncharted feelings towards astumu. you have always adored atsumu since the day he helped you when you fell in first grade. but seeing him grow up into a handsome young man really took a toll on your heart. the once chubby cheeked sweet boy was now a sharp jawed tease. he had gotten much taller, and his muscles were also starting to grow from the non-stop volleyball he’d been playing since he was young. his shoulders and biceps were swollen from the hours of training, and his boyish grin had gotten even more charming, panty dropping some would even say. to say he was a stud would be an understatement.
of course you scolded yourself for even thinking of atsumu of anything more than just your best friend, but you couldn’t help but indulge yourself in the thought of being the person he held dearest to his heart. you couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to cross the unspoken boundary between platonic love and romantic love. you knew you shouldn’t have these feelings, you couldn’t, but how couldn’t you whenever the man would charm you with his jokes and his antics. surely he was just acting this way because you’re his childhood best friend, that’s all it was, but you longed for it to be something more. your heart was so full of him you could hardly call it yours.
you weren’t quite sure of when the small inklings of adoration had budded into much more, but they bloomed and boy was it big. he consumed your thoughts and you ached to be something more than just friends. how you wished to be the one he buys flowers for just because, the one he gives his umbrella to because you forgot yours, the one who he spent his nights thinking about. it was wrong in so many ways. you were forbidden fruit, atsumu had always thought. he could never admit his feelings because you were his best friend above all else. the thought of losing you plagued his mind when he got the courage to tell you something, forcing him to shove his thoughts away for the sake of your friendship.
maybe you could recall the day you had fallen. maybe it was the summer of 8th grade during summer camp when atsumu had snuck out of his cabin to come see you. you had gotten homesick and the girls in your bunk were such blabbermouths, chatting loudly during lunch why you weren’t in the cafeteria. of course both the twins had over heard, but atsumu was the one to act on it. you heard a faint knock at your window, and low and behold it was those dazzling eyes you knew all too well.
quietly you lifted the window and scolded him, “tsumu, what are you doing here!”
he shushed you and smiled. “i heard you weren’t havin fun” you looked the other way and shook your head.
“cmon, i wanna show you somethin” he grabbed your hand and carefully helped you out the window.
“tsumu we’re gonna get in trouble!” you whisper shouted, your palm in his hand was getting sweaty from being anxious.
he turned and looked at you, pointing his flashlight at your face, “do ya trust me?” nibbling at your lip, you hesitantly nodded and he squeezed your hand.
you continued to let him drag you by the arm until you were standing in front of the lake. it was quiet, the july breeze had felt refreshing on your sweaty skin. the sounds of cicadas chirping was comforting and the scent of summer lingered in the air creating a soft aroma that made you feel fuzzy all the way to your toes.
“turn yer flashlight off” you switched it off and it was pitch black. your veins ran cold.
“tsumu i can’t see anything” you squeezed his hand out of fear, which he responded to by using his thumb to rub your hand, hoping to somewhat soothe you.
“just hold my hand ‘kay?” you nodded, though he couldn’t see you he knew that you had complied.
wordlessly, atsumu swayed some of the tall grass by his foot and suddenly it wasn’t dark anymore.
what seemed like a million fireflies had flown up, shimmering like a thousand stars in the pitch black night sky. instantly your eyes widened and jaw dropped, the sight in front of you was one to behold. atsumu had seen your expression and couldn’t help but smile. if you were both to be caught now, he thought that it would be totally worth it. slowly you reached your hand out to try and grab one but they all fluttered away.
“tsumu this is so pretty” you said in awe but he couldn’t help but stare. he thought you looked even prettier. it was like the sun was shining on your skin and you glimmered like a thousand universes. your eyes so bright and filled with astonishment, the way your eyelashes batted with wonderstruck. that was when he knew you were his forever girl.
a stray hair stuck out on your face, and atsumu’s muscles instantly moved to move it behind your ear. you flushed, your heart stuttered and you couldn’t help but stare in those beautiful brown eyes you’d never get used to looking at. he smiled and it felt like your stomach had done a somersault, like a billion butterflies were trying to escape your tummy. when you both returned to your bunk and said your goodnights, you couldn’t sleep, replaying that moment over and over again until the crack of dawn.
but no, that wasn’t when you had fallen. maybe it was the winter break of 9th grade. it was a week before christmas, and you and the twins were up to no good during the break. snowball fights, tracking mud in the house and letting all the cold air in by walking in and out of their home. the boys had tormented you, shoving your face in the snow, tackling you into the ground and even rolling up a big snowball just to throw it square at your face. to say your face felt like it had been frostbitten was a bit of an exaggeration, but it sure did feel like your face would melt off soon.
slowly the wind and snow had picked up, leaving you snowed in. you called your dad, wondering how you’d get home but all he said was to ask the twins mother if she would let you spend the night if the weather hadn’t calmed in an hour or two. of course she agreed, how could she say no when you’ve put up with her boys for the past 7 years, she practically considered you her daughter.
when the weather hadn’t cleared you and the twins had gotten excited, considering this would be your guys first sleepover. you guys had played board games, mario kart and played on your phones until midnight when samu fell asleep.
“tsumu i’m bored” your stomach rumbled and you looked down. “and hungry” you sheepishly smiled.
“me too” atsumu replied with a frown.
there was a beat of silence before atsumu’s head peaked up. “my mom has some cookie dough in the freezer, we can try and make those!” he grinned. your tummy rumbled again and you eagerly nodded. you couldn't help but think that this was something they did in all those romance movies you watched. your mind filled with thoughts about how they always end up kissing at the end of the scene and you couldn’t help but hope that maybe you’ll get a kiss too.
you both tippy toed downstairs to make the cookies. quietly atsumu opened the freezer and reached all the way in the back corner for the container of dough.
“what kind is it?” you whispered.
he squinted his eyes to look at the packaging. “chocolate chocolate chip” your stomach panged with hunger, eager to have that sweetness in your mouth.
atsumu paused and scratched his head, you could see the gears turning. “do ya know how to bake?”
you face palmed and took the container from his hands. “of course i know how to bake, who do you think made your birthday cake last year?” he shrugged and you continued to read the instructions.
once the oven was preheated, you asked atsumu to help you scoop the dough into little balls and place them on the cookie sheet. of course the little jokester he is he decided to smudge some on your nose. you stood there frozen and your jaw on the floor. he licked his finger of the dough and sent you a sly smile. you retaliated, grabbing a finger full and smearing it on his cheek, sending the same sly smile he sent you. he simply just rubbed it off with his finger and licked it, you made a disgusted face and rolled your eyes. boys will be boys.
once in the oven, you softly hopped on the counter, having to wait 20 minutes for the cookies to be ready.
“tsumu what do you want for christmas?” you queried. his lips turned into a thin line and he put his finger on his chin, thinking about what he wanted. truth be told he didn’t really know what he wanted. maybe some new volleyball shoes, some more video games, maybe even a new cologne he’s been wanting to try.
“i want a million dollars” he grinned and you rolled your eyes.
“tsumu i’m being serious, what do you want?”
all he could do was frown, “why is it so important to ya?” you stopped, and looked the other way.
it was quite embarrassing to say that you wanted to get him a present because you care about him a lot (not because you have a massive crush on the boy), so what would any other teenage girl do in your situation? you beat around the bush.
“just wanna give you something since we’ve been friends for so long” he didn’t believe you, but he just nodded.
“well i don’t really care what i get, i just wanna spend time with ya is all.”
there it was again. that funny feeling you got when he said something that could have been interpreted into something romantic. you bit the inside of your cheek and looked anywhere besides him. you were sure your cheeks were red, and it wasn’t just from the heat of the oven. you just nodded and continued on waiting for the cookies to be ready.
maybe he felt some kind of way about you other than just a friend.
even though you didn’t get the kiss you hoped for, you did get some sort of confirmation of where you stand with the boy, and you’ll take it.
again, that wasn’t when you had fallen. perhaps it was the beginning of 10th grade when atsumu had gotten his first car. atsumu had gotten a camaro, while osamu had gotten a nissan silvia. both were quite nice you had to admit, they were both sleek and looked luxurious. ever since atsumu had gotten his car, he didn’t let anyone near it, not even his mom. he feared someone would ruin his precious baby and he did not want that to happen. no one other than himself had been in it and he intended to keep it that way, that was until 3 weeks on a random friday.
you had been in your room folding laundry and watching tv, you didn’t really have any plans for tonight, maybe facetime the twins and do a face mask. you felt your phone buzz on your bedsheets. you ignored it for a good 5 minutes until it vibrated again. you put down the pair of pants you were folding and reached for the device, wondering who was texting you. opening your phone, you had seen that atsumu had texted you.
tsumu:
are you busy???
tsumu:
i’ll be at your place in an hour n a half, get all dolled up.
your brows drew together in confusion. what the hell was he planning on doing? nonetheless you quickly finished your laundry and hopped in the shower. since very few words were spoken, you didn’t really know the occasion and how you should dress. should you wear a blouse and a skirt? some jeans and a sweater? a dress? you decided something cute and comfy was the way to go, so you opted for flare tights, a white turtle neck with a brown crew neck on top since it was a bit chilly outside. you were feeling very minimalistic, so simple mascara and lipgloss were going to suffice. again, since you didn’t know the occasion, you did a simple blow out on your hair. the finishing touches were gold jewelry your father had gotten you for christmas last year.
you still had time left since atsumu’s last text, so you spent the last 10 minutes wondering what the now blonde was scheming. he was probably just going to take you with him to a practice volleyball match, you can’t count on one hand how many times he’s told you to get ready just to take you to one of his practice matches. you didn’t complain though, hot guys playing sports and getting sweaty was definitely a sight to see.
you heard a rumble down the street and looked outside, low and behold it was your best friend in his squeaky clean car. you ran outside to his window with your mouth open.
“tsumu what are you doing? you’re gonna get your car dirty!” he chuckled and stepped out of the vehicle.
“relax it’ll be okay, it’s only like 5 bucks to wash it” he said as he ruffled your hair. you smacked his arm away and huffed, a pout adorning your face as you tried to calm your hair down from his actions. when you finally looked up at him he felt the wind knock out of his lungs. you looked so damn pretty. your plump and pink lips pouting made him feel fuzzy inside, and the way you looked at him with your wide pretty eyes made him melt. you were the most gorgeous thing to walk the earth in his eyes.
he cleared his throat and put his arms on your shoulders, turning you the other way. “cmon, get in the car already” you paused right in front of the door.
“tsumu are you sure? i’m going to get it dirty” you said nibbling on your cheek. he let out a small laugh and nodded, opening the door for you.
“if i wasn’t sure then i wouldn’t have invited ya ya dunce” he said matter of factly as he flicked your forehead. he hadn’t told you your destination, but the ride to the location was filled with off key singing and laughter. you enjoyed moments like these, feeling each other's presence only fueled the fire in your belly that never seemed to dull. you felt as if he was the heartbeat in your body.
at one point you stopped at a red light and decided to look at him. that was a mistake.
the red glow of the light made him look ethereal. his jaw looked so sharp that it could cut the pillows he sleeps on, his face had a glow to it that made you feel like a volcano was erupting in your stomach. his eyes, shimmering like sparkling gems that had caught light at just the right angle, wide and beautiful. his face was tilted, one arm on the steering wheel and the other on the gear shift. his arms looked big and beefy gripping on to the wheel, the dark flannel he wore over his gray hoodie really accentuated his biceps. he looked so good, too good. he could feel your stare and turned to look at you as well. looking in your eyes, he gave you that boyish grin that never seemed to fail to give you butterflies. you sent a small one back and turned forward as the light turned green.
atsumu had taken you out to watch a movie and eat at a cute diner that had some amazing burgers. you guys may or may not have gotten kicked out for throwing fry’s at each other, but a good time is a good time right? the drive home was silent, but comfortable, both of you just soaking up each others presence. when you got to your house, you turned to thank atsumu for the night, but he had already gotten out of the car. your face contorted into one of confusion, but a few seconds later your door had opened and his hand stuck out, waiting for yours. you looked up and smiled, gently taking his hand in yours. when you had reached your front door you both faced each other and stared for a good 30 seconds.
“i had fun tonight” you finally managed to get out. he nodded and replied, “me too” then it was quiet again. a breeze picked up and moved pieces of hair in your face. swiftly, atsumu tucked them behind your ear. your cheeks warmed and you batted your eyelashes.
“i’ll see ya at school monday” you nodded and smiled. as he began to walk off your mouth spoke before your brain could process it.
“tsumu?”
he paused and turned, “yeah?”
a sudden flood of courage coursed through your veins. you softly grabbed his hand, your other one gently turned his jaw as you slowly brought your lips up to place a sweet kiss on his cheek. you could feel his cheek warm under your touch, but you didn’t mind, you thought it was cute.
“have a goodnight” you said as you looked in his eyes. he was stunned. the girl of his dreams just kissed him.
“you too” he said breathlessly, walking back to his car with wide eyes. he waited for you to get inside and wave goodbye to him before he fist bumped the air. your lipgloss had left a mark on his cheek and he took as many pictures with it as he could.
when you had walked inside your dad was on the couch watching tv. “hey sweetie, how was your day?” you hid your smile as best as you could and replied with a quick ‘it was good’ as you rushed up stairs. you quickly threw yourself on the bed and grabbed your pillow to muffle your screams of joy and giggles. you felt on top of the world. your stomach could not stop churning and your cheeks burned. you felt so giddy and couldn’t believe that happened. another small step in your book.
but it was definitely the day before spring break of sophomore year that you had fallen.
which was 2 weeks ago to be exact.
you were already having a bad day. your cat that you had gotten when you were 6 passed away, your little brother had thought it would be funny to put water in your piano which damaged the interior detrimentally and you had woken up late which caused you to have bed head. despite all that you tried to be positive, considering you had something good going on in your life.
you had gotten quite a huge crush on a basketball player from your school, and for what it seemed he had shown some interest in you back. you felt excited, you thought that maybe all the romantic things you had dreamed of would come true, maybe this was your soulmate. of course you thought about atsumu as well, but it seemed like all you and atsumu would ever be is just friends. you felt that you should move on, you deserve to find someone that can love you.
that was until the guy straight up said “how could anyone ever want to be with you? you’re annoying and clingy, you can’t even make decisions for yourself. try not to be so insufferable and then maybe we could be a thing.” you froze. you could feel your heart shatter and your face warm. all you had asked was if it was okay to sit by him. angrily you threw your lunch tray at him and rushed out of the cafeteria. hot tears rolled down your face as you walked out the building. what kind of a jerk publicly humiliates a girl all because she asked if she could sit by them. you ran to the metro and prayed that you would get home quickly. you felt like you were suffocating and needed to get home. once home, you hastily threw open the door, running up the stairs and slamming your door closed. your dad had heard you and wondered what all the ruckus was.
knocking, he asked “sweetie what’s up? why are you home early?” you screamed at him to go away and he obliged, too scared and knowing better that it was best to let you be and simmer down.
atsumu had heard about the whole thing during practice. he had already felt bad because he wasn’t at lunch today; he had gotten detention from his coach for being late to practice 3 times that week. he overheard omimi talking about how a point guard went off on a girl and she threw her tray at him. atsumu instantly perked up and butted in the conversation.
“what point guard?” he questioned with an eyebrow raised.
“think it was the one your girlfriend was talking to” suna said with a smug grin. atsumu’s face dropped, completely ignoring suna’s comment as he ran out the gym.
“where is he going?” kita questioned annoyed, the boys just shrugged.
he raced to your house, surprised he didn’t get pulled over but grateful nonetheless. if it really was you that that jerk had yelled at, then he had one thing coming. atsumu’s hand tightly gripped the wheel, angry at the fact that some douchebag had the audacity to raise his voice at you. he was already jealous of stealing your attention, taking his precious time with you away. but you looked so happy and he really didn’t want to ruin that for you. he realized that maybe that guy could give you something that he couldn’t.
but obviously that was totally wrong, and he realized that now as he pulled into your house. he had tried calling you, but to no avail you didn’t answer. he knocked on your door quite loudly, and you father had answered.
“is she here?”
your father shook his head, “no she took off somewhere awhile ago.”
atsumu nodded and thanked him, going back into his car. he stopped and thought for a while. where could you possibly be? you could literally be anywhere on the earth right now.
a thought popped into his head. he remembered that one time when you got into an argument with your dad you ran off like you did now. you had ended up at an ice cream shop by the beach. it was a long shot, but it was the only possible lead he had as to where you are right now. he quickly drove across town, searching for you somewhere in the yellow sand. he saw a couple of people, a boy and his dog, a small family and an elderly couple. just as he was about to leave, he saw a small figure at the end of the beach. it had to have been you. he parked his car and slowly walked towards you. you were sitting up with your arms wrapped around your knees, your chin resting on your forearms. he heard you sniffle and his heart ached for you. quietly, he sat next to you and patted your head.
“hey” you turn your head, red eyes rimmed and puffy. your cheeks were rosey and your hair was disheveled, but atsumu still thought you looked as beautiful as ever. you mumbled out a small hey and turned forward again. the sounds of the waves crashing had calmed you, you longed to jump in the water and never be heard from again.
but you were glad he was here.
it was nice having him right next to you, the loneliness was bearable with him by your side. having him next to you made you feel significantly smaller, in more ways than physical. atsumu held himself high and could easily pick himself back up. but you? you were just an insecure girl looking for someone to be her lifeline. maybe that guy was right. how could anyone ever love you if you can’t even love yourself. you craved validation but for what? for who? why couldn’t you just learn to be alone, what was so bad about it.
“what’s going on in that big head of yours?” you heard from beside you. you paused, you needed something from him to help you see yourself.
“do you think i’m annoying?” you asked softly and atsumu chuckled.
“you talk a lot sometimes, i could say it’s annoying, yeah” the way your eyes welled up with tears made atsumu punch himself internally, now was obviously not the right time for jokes.
“i’m kidding, i don’t think yer annoying. i think yer quite the opposite in fact. quite lovely in my opinion” you nodded but his words didn’t quite get through to you. he could obviously be lying, he is your best friend and all, he could be sparing your feelings.
“‘m serious. i love being around you. you’re such a great person to be around, you’re funny and nice, you listen, you care. you were too good for that jerk in my opinion, you deserve someone way better than that di-“
“tsumu” he smiled sheepishly, “sorry.”
you stared at him, the orange hue from the sun setting made him look stunning. he looked so handsome and you wanted to feel his lips on yours so bad.
“do you mean that?” you asked breathlessly. his eyes met yours and he nodded, something flickered in his eyes that you couldn’t quite recognize. he wrapped his arm around you, leaning your head on his shoulder. just sitting there watching the sunset, you felt at peace. he leaned down and placed a soft kiss on your forehead, laying his head on top of yours. maybe you were wrong.
maybe atsumu was your soulmate.
that was what you had thought, until out of the blue little miss sunshine and rainbows popped up in the picture.
aiko nakamura.
she was a pretty girl, slim and tall with long legs. she was on the girls track team, and some would say she was one of the cliche it girls. you didn’t really know her, you went to school with her in elementary but you never really had been friends. from what you’ve heard she was nice and funny.
also atsumu’s type apparently.
you were happy for him really, you were just a little upset at the fact that he hadn’t told you anything about her at all. i mean really, what could you do? there was no way you were going to declare your unproclaimed love for him. so of course, being the best best friend you could ever possibly be, you suck it up. you wipe your tears and go on, acting like it doesn’t affect you even if you spend your nights wondering why.
after they had gotten together, your time with atsumu had been cut short significantly. your once friday tradition of hanging out had been given away to some girl atsumu had only been with for 2 weeks. obviously it hurt seeing the guy you’re in love with loving up on someone that wasn’t you, but again, there was not much you could do. watching from afar seemed best, and the once arms length of distance had become one oceans away. he felt just out of your reach and maybe this time it was entirely too late.
after a while, you stopped reaching out to atsumu. you stopped going over, you stopped eating lunch with him, you stopped calling, you stopped texting, you stopped talking. you ached to tell someone about your days because your person was just a ghost of a memory now. you still talked to osamu of course, even hanging with him every now and then. but it just wasn’t the same as your best friend.
one day when you and osamu were chilling in his room, atsumu and his girlfriend were arguing. you could hear the screams and shouts, bickering back and forth. you and osamu just looked at each other, knowing it was best to just mind your business. a few minutes later and you heard stomping down the stairs and a door slam. it was quiet for a little, then atsumu barged into the room.
he moved sluggishly and threw himself onto osamu’s bed.
“‘m guessin you guys fought?” osamu chucked.
atsumu let out a big sigh and had the biggest frown on his face. “she’s mad because i never post her or whatever.”
you decided to stay quiet, continuing to do whatever it was on your phone.
atsumu had noticed your lack of communication recently, and he was upset about it. he wondered if he made you mad or angry at him, or if he did anything wrong. he hated the radio silence and he also hated that you didn’t talk to him about it. he just wanted some type of closure. did you not want to be friends with him anymore? was he too insufferable for you now?
he threw a pillow at you.
“ow, tsumu what the heck!” you glared and all he could do was laugh. atsumu could swear there was steam coming out your ears.
“was just trynna get yer nose out that phone, sorry”
you rolled your eyes, some half assed apology that was.
you guys just sat there a few minutes, it was peaceful and quiet.
“you should go to our game tomorrow” you paused and furrowed your eyebrows.
“i thought aiko was going?” atsumu just shook his head and smiled.
“she is but i want ya to be there too y'know since yer my best friend and all”
“i’ll think about it” another pillow was flung at your head.
going to bed that night you really did think about it. you’d love to go to atsumu’s games but you knew for a fact that aiko was going to be there, and you didn’t want to witness that awkward pda shared between them; you had already walked in on them making out a week before. but of course your heart always wins against your head, and it couldn’t help but thirst about wanting to see atsumu all sweaty and tired from his game.
you had gotten there 10 minutes early and the stands were already packed. their games had always been big, everyone wanted to see the talented players in action. it was both a blessing and a curse to say that you knew those boys. you decided you’d go look for a seat after you said hi to the twins first.
“atsumu y/n is here” kita motioned his hand toward your figure standing by osamu. osamu had spotted you when you first walked in and left aran in the middle of warmups.
from afar, your cheeks looked red, and you seemed nervous. atsumu had wondered if you were sick or if something happened to you. he quickly walked over to you.
just before he had reached you, osamu had pulled you into a hug. his eyebrows drew together. since when were you and osamu that close. he decided to keep his question in the back of his head, deciding he’ll ask about it some other time. you were about to leave, but the blonde had called out for you.
“hey y/n, where ya goin?” eyebrows raised, atsumu waited for your answer.
“i was just going back up to the stands, good luck guys!” osamu patted your head and you left.
there was something brewing in atsumu’s chest, something funny. he looked at his twin with eyebrows furrowed. it was a little odd for you to just randomly hug osamu, so what the hell just happened between you two?
osamu smirked. he could see the glint of jealousy in his brother's eyes. “what?” shrugging his shoulders, he walked off.
you had found a good spot just before the game started. you could see both sides of the court and you could easily see the players. the whistle blew and the game began.
all of the players were amazing, and the rally’s that kept going on were phenomenal. it was a battle that was never ending and it kept you and your toes.
the lights and cheers going on around you really fueled the intensity of the game. it felt like you were watching an olympic game.
you were so caught up with the game that you didn’t hear someone call out your name.
“y/n! what are you doing here?” you turned and aiko stood before you. she looked all pretty and she had atsumu’s jersey on. the one that he never let you wear because it was ‘too precious and i don’t want you to get it dirty’. you felt a pang of hurt in your chest but you smiled.
“oh, hey. the boys invited me to their game and i thought i’d come and support” she nodded and smiled.
“i didn’t think i’d see you here, atsumu always tells me how you never go see him because you’re too scared to get hit by a ball” she laughed as if it was the funniest thing in the world.
you actually didn’t go because you had piano practice, but you didn’t want to burst her bubble.
“oh that’s so funny, he’s always making up some kind of joke” you forced a laugh and turned your attention back to the game.
“yeah he’s always saying something about you” she giggles.
“he also told me about that whole reiji thing”
you stopped.
reiji was the basketball player that you had gotten the big fat massive crush on. he was also the one that yelled at you in the cafeteria.
there’s no way he told her about something like that. something that you had been so raw and vulnerable about. you cried to atsumu about how you really liked him and how he made you feel good about yourself. about how you wish he didn’t say those things because now you feel even more unlovable than you did before.
“he told you… about that?” she nodded and looked towards the court, acting as if what she was saying didn’t affect you.
“yeah what a douche, he definitely could’ve said that over text or something. not that i think it’s true or anything but still!” you nodded and tried to let her words fly over your head.
“but i mean really, how naive were you to think that he would actually want to be with you?”
you could feel your heartbeat in all of your limbs and hear the sound of your blood rushing to your face.
“boys like that only want one thing, and unfortunately for you you don’t have it. maybe if you made yourself look pretty you’d have a boyfriend!” she smiled at you.
you stood there, dumbfounded, shocked about how you should respond. was she trying to help you or bring you down? because it definitely seems like the latter. and it was definitely working. you were embarrassed and wanted to run out of the gym but you didn’t want to make a fool of yourself.
the buzzer went off and the crowd dispersed.
“oh! that’s game, i’ll see you around!” she smirked and waved, walking towards the players.
you were still shocked from the whole ordeal. you could see her run up to atsumu and kiss his forehead. atsumu leaned in for a hug but she backed away, clearly not wanting to get sweat on her outfit.
you also walked down to talk to the boys, but you didn’t want to interrupt the couple so you told osamu good job, giving him a hug. you and atsumu had made eye contact and it was clear he wanted to talk to you, but before he could get to you you panicked and quickly walked out of the gym. you did not want to speak to him especially since he had told his girlfriend about your heartbreak.
he thought it was odd, you always told him bye so why did you run off?
“hey uh, i’ll be right back” aiko gripped his hand and atsumu was taken aback.
“where are you going?” atsumu looked down at his hand, stared at it and retracted his arm.
“just gonna do sumthin real quick” she nodded, but she obviously knew where he was going.
in a light jog, atsumu went to search for you. surely you couldn’t have gone too far, you hadn’t left that long ago.
he spotted your figure just about to exit the building.
“y/n!” you paused and turned, seeing the person you were trying to avoid the most. you could feel yourself shiver.
“where ya goin?” he questioned.
“i’m going home tsumu” he was confused and you could see that in his facial expressions.
“weren’t you gonna tell me bye?” you looked in his eyes and you could feel your anger and embarrassment melt away.
“i didn’t want to interrupt you and aiko. she seems nice by the way. hope you guys are happy” you said, forcing a smile. you walked off but atsumu could clearly see that something was up with you. he didn’t want to push so he settled for a small smile and a wave.
“call me tonight kay?” you nodded, not looking behind you.

someone help me find this fic. i know it was sakuatsu and the plot was that sakusa and atsumu kept hooking up throughout the years but weren’t ever serious and kiyoomi was just very reluctant to let things get serious but eventually he did and it all worked out. there was also a subplot where osamu and suna were dating and suna cheated on osamu and atsumu left kiyoomi in the middle of a date to go to osamu. but i remember the last scene very vividly was osamu not believing that atsumu and kiyoomi were dating so kiyoomi facetimed osamu. someone please help if you know what fic this is

-Don't walk away from me. Not after that. Not after you pour your heart out for me and wait for me to walk all over it, because I won't. I love you, you. You're everything I wish for, everything I wanted. Don't walk away from me, not anymore when you have my heart. Don't leave me here without you.

you know when it's time to go | miya atsumu x reader
summary: you always knew you and atsumu could never be together; you were two worlds apart, and two worlds it will stay
w.c: > 1.0k
a/n: UHH PART 2???? y'all im so sorry abt the request i'm almost done w/ most of them :)))
warnings: cheating, angst, cliffhanger
Tumblr media
you know when it's time to go
when you got home from your shift at the coffee shop, it seemed that time had stopped. atsumu's sports jacket laid across the wooden table, you two bought when it was your 19th birthday. but as you take a closer look at it you realize how scratched up it looks, you see the water stains on the time.
you know where atsumu is right now. he's with her. you know he is. as you grab out the wine bottle and pop it open, you can't help to wonder why you are with him to start.
maybe it's cause he stuck with you when you were grounded your whole senior year. you used to have sleepovers with your best friend so you could text him on her phone, smiling constantly. but soon trouble spewed all over everything that was supposed to be perfect.
you first noticed the way he looks at her in sophomore year. she had that personality. you know! that one! the funny one, the happy one, and the one who fakes everything cause that was what she was taught. you on the other hand were completely opposite. while she was out partying with him, you were stuck at home trying to study for your ap exam the next day.
or perhaps maybe it's because when you spent time complaining over your parent's divorce, she was bragging about her new weight. it constantly felt like a competition, it was all a sick game in her head. she knew i was angry. but he wasn't mine, so why should you care?
until senior prom. you dressed up in your finest attire. all your stupid paycheck from that stupid coffee shop you still work at. he wore the black suit he's had since 9th grade. something changed between you two that night. he thought you seemed like an angel underneath the light, you likewise. he kissed you. right underneath that cheap disco.
he was a dream.
his lips were chapped that night, you run your hand over your mouth to maybe have some recognition of that night. nothing. you run cold thinking about miya astumu now.
he would ask you out the next day. and you said yes. but dear god did he make you happy.
you caught astumu cheating on you for the first time last may. your head plopped down on his tough chest. you were watching a thriller and pulled the blanket closer to the both of you. but as the movie kept on going, he kept texting someone. every three minutes he pulled his phone out and his cheesy grin would plaster on.
you were confused at first
angry the second
you grabbed the phone.
it just happen, it felt gravitated towards it, you grabbed it.
you saw the messages and even who it was. atsumu didn't even try to hide it. you scrolled throughout. but what shocked you the most was-
it was from her.
you cry about it, you should've left when that happened. but you didn't. you let him again after the fight. he promised he would cut it off. he said he started going to church. that was the first time you ever saw such panic on his face.
you know he's cheating right now. you check the clock. 2 a.m. he deleted life360 a long time ago.
"it's invasion of privacy!"
"but- atsumu. you cheated on me! don't forget that!"
"i don't care. aurora wouldn't do this."
he said it as if i was the monster- like i forced him to date me. i should've broken up with him then. on sundays, he would tell he was going to church. but now that i think about it, he's never once told me anything about it.
the door opens.
it's atsumu thinking i'm about to start begging for him to tell him what's wrong. but i'm not.
"atsumu."
"y/n."
"let's end this."
"what."
"whatever sick game you and aurora are playing let's stop it."
"why? why would you leave. i gave you everything."
i turned around to face him, "atsumu- or should i say miya now? i know you and her are fucking behind my back. i didn't know church lasted till 2 a.m?"
"y/n. i can't do this again. i love you so much! why don't you see this? are you crazy or something?"
"i'm not crazy! i'm just sick of waiting for you to change! you never showed any sign of change; just lies, lies, lies! i'm sick." i grab my phone off the wooden table and my cardigan.
"goodbye atsumu."

back in fanfic hell, writing a longform SakuAtsu fic? thats me.
Full fic: https://archiveofourown.org/works/38651751/chapters/96628581
“Miya. Relax, and let me take care of you.”
Sakusa’s deep voice sent a chill up his spine, and Astumu could feel the tips of his fingers tingling in anticipation of the next assault on his contorted form.As he breathed out and forced his body to calm at the command, accepting the pain necessary for his recovery, he felt Sakusa’s fingertips gently ghost over his spine before reaching an especially tender spot in his lower back.
Even when he sensed the initial pressure, Atsumu took a deep breath in, allowing the feeling to consume him as he slackened his muscles. When the knotted muscle untangled and broke apart with the consistent pressure Sakusa applied, he heard the man sigh and slowly massage a thumb around the area, caressing before gently lifting off.
“Mmm… good.”
'Good boy,’ Atsumu's mind unhelpfully continued.Quite frankly, he had simply never experienced anything so similar to a BDSM relationship in his life. How was he to survive another hour of this?
~~
AKA Sakusa is a sports massage therapist, Atsumu is a professional dancer, and things are gay.
AKA HI GUYS I FIGURED I SHOULD MAKE A TUMBLR BECAUSE IM WRITING FIC AGAIN? LIKE WHAT. But I am! And I actually am loving the fuck out of it! I have so many random moments in future chapters written out and WOW I am in SakuAtsu HELL. I have been for months, but the other week I reached the point where I had read like every single longform SakuAtsu fic and I was in major depression. Sooo I am writing my own! The story is/is going to be flled with romance, sex, partying, fluff, comedy, angst, and ballet boys en pointe. I had originally anticipated the whole massage therapist/dancer thing to be a horny one shot, but I simply could not follow through, because I am a romantic, and am trying to exercise my writers brain. SO. ALAS!

Miya Atsumu
He did felt lonely or side tracked sometimes (rare coz his mind is dead set for Vollyball ofc) because Osamu was the only one between the twins people intracted much with.
When he bleached his hair, he got a lot of booing! He stood his ground tho saying i will do what i want to do and you will admire me eventually and he proceeded to do what he wanted to do and people admired him eventually >
Tumblr media
Atsumu was all smug and everything but he actually tried to get along at the national camp with everyone. He talked to everyone (unlike his home team when he was young). So when be recived rough dry replies (or expressions - lets be honest) from Sakusa he went 😦>😔 for a while when he was reviewing all the event before sleeping but decided to give it all tomorrow again!! Gambare!!!!
Tumblr media
He was devastatingly sad when Samu chose not to play Vollyball anymore after high school. They are twins and he is a part of him and ever since the beginning they played vollyball together! It just wont be the same. He was broken. He cried after the fight and he know he will always feel lonely in the court from now on. (Ofc tho he understands how Samu is very passionate about food just as he himself is passionate about vollyball. He just knows his brother like he knows himself.)
When he was choosen for the National camp alone and not with Samu he panicked a little thinking that why is he the only one choosen!
Atsumu is in general very independent man and doesn't give a damn about teasing or booing from others seriously but there are few days when even he feels hurt ! He would go little quite walking back from the practice.
But even through all this, he know that Samu will always be there for him. And as he grew up he has made a lot of friends and made up with his teammates and got a few new teammates and he has a content heart now♡

A/n- heyy! Thank you for the request! I will get back w other boys soon. Please drop the next one you want ;)
See yaa!

Heyy! I would like to request something if thats fine.
(It is late for me at the moment so sorry in advance if there are some spelling errors or if some parts don't make sense, I'm practically asleep haha)
So I would like to request a Atsumu x male reader if thats fine.
So the plot goes like this: atsumu and y/n have been friends since they were babies as their parents have been best friends so it made sense for them to be friends too. At a young as atsumu so really into volleyball and played every chance he could, he would of course ask y/n at play but most times y/n would decline the offer as volleyball or any sports wasnt his thing. Y/n liked calming things like Gaming, cooking/baking. Things that didnt involve lots of moving. At sum u being the kid he is would complain to y/n that he didnt play volleyball with him and would sulk for ages until y/n would finally agree.
Years pass by and they were still friends, maybe even closwr. Atsumu now plays for the school's team. He tried to convince y/n to join too as by saying "oh come on!! You should join already, you so good at it" and things like that.
But it really did annoy atsumu. The two where at y/n's home talking. Y/n stated that he wanted to go to a culinary school in the future. He showed atsumu a cake he took hours to make, he was proud of himself so of course he showed Atsumu. Atsumu told him how that was a stupid idea and how y/n should just stop being so 'lazy' and 'boring'. Out of frustration, Atsumu smashed the cake y/n had made. It made y/n distraught and scared in a way of the sudden action from Atsumu. The two argued until y/n said his final words in the argument "I can't even believe I ever liked a selfish guy like you..! Let alone love you.." Tears streamed from y/n's eyes. Atumu stood there in shock from the words just said. Atsumu had always had feelings for y/n. He thought that they would be even closer of he made y/n join volleyball with him. Atsumu engulfed y/n in a hug and began crying himself. He explained his reasoning behind him lashing out. Without thinking Atsumu kissed y/n. It was a short kiss, but it was filled with so much love and emotion that caused then to want it more (not in a sexual way). Atsumu asked/mostly begged for y/n's forgiveness and of course y/n soon accepted the apology.
I dont know too much about Atsumu so he’s probably a little ooc! (Also, you, dear anon, first ever requester, thank you)
Angst-ish with a happy ending?
*********
“(Y/N)! (Y/N)!” Playing on your Gameboy, you could hear Atsumu yell at you throughout the house. You groaned. The door to your bedroom opened as Atsumu ran in, immediately having a pillow thrown at him. “Knock!” “But ya’ know me! I shouldn’t have ta’ knock!” Picking up another pillow while glaring at Atsumu, he huffed (it was a disguise. He was terrified of your glare, and insane aim accuracy) before walking out and closed the door. A second went by and you heard a knock. Sighing, you told him told him to come in. He opened the door, completely forgetting what he was mad about earlier and asked that god awful question you hated.
“Come play with me!” “No.” He pouted, “Ya’ always say that!” “I agreed yesterday.” You concentrated on catching a caterpie, “C’mon! I’ll, uh,” he paused, “I’ll buy you Pokémon!” You stared at him before sighing. “You’re 11, you can’t buy anything.” He whined as you went back to your Gameboy, “Please! Please! Please! Please!” God he never quits, you never understood why he didn’t get Osamu, he was better (and actually tried) at it than you. “Why can’t you get Osamu? He’s better than me.” He stopped complaining and looked at you before jumping on your bed, shaking you back and forth, “It’s not the same! Come on! Pleeaase?” You agreed, just to get him to shut up.
——————
“(Y/N)!” ‘God damnit all.’ You thought as you felt the body of your best friend crash into you, “Ye’re finally joining?!” You could hear Osamu swearing to kill his brother. “No.” You were still blunt as ever, only at the gym so early in the morning because Atsumu forgot his lunch bag at your house. He whined, “But whyyyyy?” Before you could reply Osamu came upon to you two. “Hey, dumbass! Leave ‘im alone! We’re supposed ta’ be practicing!” Gripping the back of Atsumu’s shirt and pulling him away from you, Osamu pulled the whining teenager back to the court. You looked at Ojiro and waved, he waved back. You two were barely friends, only knowing each other because of the twins, but he was cool so you didn’t care.
You put Atsumu’s bag on the bench and left for class, hoping you could catch a nap.
——————
“(Y/N)?” Your head was on your desk still, “Atsumu I swear to god I’m not playing volleyball with you.” You heard a huff, “I’m Osamu, also it’s lunch time.” You shot out of your seat and looked at the clock, seeing it was indeed lunch. “Fuuuuck.” Your teacher was not happy. Walking towards the cafeteria with Osamu, you talked about all the different recipes of Onigiri there was and what your favorite type is. Coming to the cafeteria doors you held it open for Osamu, walking in after him and immediately seeing Atsumu waving at you, Ojiro beside him. Sitting in front of him (with Osamu in front of Ojiro) you opened your bento, eating whatever you made. “Mm, (Y/N), so nice of ya’ to make me lunch!”
“Shut the fuck up and don’t talk with food in yer mouth.” As much as Atsumu complementing your cooking made you happy, seeing him talk with a mouth full would undoubtedly make your appetite go south for the day. “Damn (Y/N), why’d ya’ have ta’ go and make ‘im lunch?” “‘Cause I’m nice.” You stated, taking a bite of Onigiri, “And so he owes me.” “(Y/N)!” Osamu and Ojiro laughed at Atsumu’s demise while you just blankly stared at him while eating. “Hey, (Y/N).” “No.” “Oh, c’mon! I didn’t even say anything!” You glared at him, he looked down at the lunch you had the curtesy to make for him. “But ye’re so good! C’mon, Osamu, tell ‘im how good he is!”
You looked at him with a ‘don’t you fucking dare’ face, “Atsumu does have a point.” He shrugged at the end of his sentence, picking at his food with his chopsticks. You looked at him before looking at Atsumu, then looking down at your bento. “Ojiro’s my new best friend.” “WHAT!?”
——————
“(Y/N)!” You were playing on the PlayStation 1 in your living room, “Who the fuck let you in?” Not looking away from whatever you were playing, Atsumu sat down beside you. “Me, of course!” “Atsumu I’m not playing volleyball.” This was a weekly occurrence. Atsumu some how gets in your house, he begs for you to play volleyball with him, you say no, he still begs, you get tired and agree. God you hated him and his stamina. “But (Y/N)!” He stretched out your name, “Atsumu, no. I’m busy.” He crossed his arms over his chest, annoyed that you, yet again, refused to play with him. “Actually, I have something I want to show you.” He perked up before you still didn’t agree to play.
Flopping back on the couch, arms still crossed and still acting like a baby, he watched you get up and go to the kitchen. He watched as you open the fridge and took out a beautiful cake. “I’m thinking of going to culinary school, but baking seems more, uh, tasteful?” You set the cake on the table, Atsumu walking up to it. “I wanted your opinion on it.” Looking at you, Atsumu couldn’t believe how you’d want to go to such a boring school, have such a boring job. “Baking is boring, and it’s a lazy job. It’s a stupid idea really.” “It’s not boring, and it’s not stupid.” You weren’t one to get mad often, sure you act mad with the twins (Atsumu) but you were easily the chillest person alive, but Atsumu was really pushing it.
“It really is. There’s no fun in standing in a kitchen all day.” “Wow, fuck you too, I guess.” You crossed your arms, ready to call Osamu to get his brother. “I’m just saying! You should come to volleyball! It’s more fun!” “Atsumu for the love of god, I fucking HATE volleyball!” Atsumu stared at you, processing what you said. Hate volleyball? Impossible. No one likes baking more than volleyball! It’s just a excuse for being lazy. “But ye’re so good! Why don’t you just go pro with me instead doing stupid, whatever this is!” He raised his hands, hitting the table out of frustration. The cake fell, getting red, white, and some blue frosting all over the floor. You both stared at it, wide eyed.
“What… what the fuck?” You could feel the tears building up in your eyes. “I spent… so long on that.” “I-I didn’t mean too! I just wanted you to play join volleyball and play with me! And-and-” “What about me?! What about what I want? Huh? Do you even care about me?” The tears were falling and Atsumu had tears of his own, “I can’t believe I ever liked someone so selfish!” You wiped your tears, “You selfish fucking bastard!” He stood still, before stepping over the smooshed cake and hugged you. You squirmed, “I just thought if ya’ joined the team, we would be closer. I thought we could be a team, y’know?” His voiced crack.
He could feel you stop and wrap your arms around him. “I just, I just didn’t want ya’ to leave me. I want you with me, and it would be hard if we had different jobs.” You could feel your shoulder get wet with his tears, “I’m so, so sorry, (Y/N). Please, I’m so sorry, I never meant to hurt you.” You both stayed like that for awhile. Sure, you were still pissed that he smashed your cake, but you really needed this hug. He pulled back kissed the side of your mouth before looking in your eyes, silently asking for permission. You leaned in, kissing him. It was short, but you both could feel the love the other felt. Atsumu put his head on your shoulder, “I’m so sorry, (Y/N). Could you forgive me?” His voice was strained from the crying.
“Only if you accept Osamu is the better twin,” He pulled back, looking at you with bewilderment in his eyes. You laughed at your own joke, “I’m just kidding,” he relaxed, putting his head on your shoulder again. “Tuggin’ at my strings,” You both chuckled. “You’re cleaning this up, though. And I’m not helping.” “That’s fair.”
*********
I have got to stop making these so long. And remember kids, baking is not lame.
Also sorry if this isn’t exactly what you wanted

Part Two to Home
Atsumu x Fem Redaer
Summary: Atsumu deals with the aftermath
Warnings: Angst, NSFW, Slight smut, Atsumu is an Ass
AN/ UNEDITED. this is just a portrayal of Atsumu for this work not how I actually perceive him
The will be a Part Three.
Part One: Home
Part Three: Memories
Tumblr media
Atsumu cursed himself as you ran out the restaurant. He knew he was getting to cocky. Frustration was taking over his body as he sat back down at the table. He ran his hand over his face as let out a heavy sigh before looking up at her. Yuki ,his most recent girlfriend, sat there loss for words. He could see the tears building in her eyes. Obviously she was confused it’s not like she knew anything about you he had courted her like all the others under the disguise of being single. He racked his brain he knew he had been careless lately. Normally you’d never notice his infidelity he’d been doing it for quite sometime now and for so long you were none the wiser. He’d find some chick take her either back to her place or a hotel have his fun and be gone only repeating the same girl maybe twice at most three times if she was a really good lay. He’d make sure no marks were left and he was clean up before heading home to you his unsuspecting fiancé. Yuki was different though she was the first woman to actually catch his attention in more than just a sexual capacity. Don’t get him wrong the sex with her was amazing but he also found himself enjoying her company wanting to spend more and more time with her. He curses maybe if he hadn’t been so stupid and forgot your birthday everything would be fine. Being so pissed at the situation he failed to worry about Yuki’s feelings as she finally broke the silence.
“Tsmu I don’t get it, we’ve been together for eight months how could you cheat on me,” she sniffled tears starting to stream down her face as her usually charming boyfriend sat across from her looking at her with annoyance.
He scoffed looking at her pitiful state. If he wasn’t already so fed up with the situation he was sure he could use his silver tongue to get out of this situation and have her back at his side momentarily, but no he needed to save all his effort and false reassurances for you.
“Oh sweetheart I didn’t cheat on you,” he gave a little chuckle, “That’s was my fiancé , I’ve been with her for six years what makes you think eight months means anything, you were the side piece darling.” He saw the hurt on her face and knew he had just been a complete ass but he couldn’t find it in him to care right now although he was sure he would later. That hurt turned to anger as she stood and threw her drink in his face.
“You are an ASSHOLE Atsumu!” She yelled finally losing what composer she was keeping before storming away out the same door you had just previously exited.
Yeah I guess I am he thought as wiped his face the rag before signaling for the check. Looking at the glass that contained your ring he thought of all the Pinterest boards you had saved of rings and dresses and different color schemes. He thought of the excitement and love in your eyes when he finally proposed. He plucked the ring out of the drink before pocketing it and heading home.
As he entered your shared home he realized he had guessed right you weren’t there. He pulled out his phone, pulling up your contact and hitting call. It wouldn’t connect. He let out the breath he was holding, so you had already blocked him he thought. He walked to their room wanting to change out of his wet dress shirt. He immediately noticed the most of your drawers were empty and your half The closet was looking sparse. He wondered if you were coming back for the rest. Part of him was sure you would, you would come back where else could you go. Yet somewhere deep in his mind part of him was screaming at the idea of you being gone. But he wouldn’t let that part surface. He walked out to the kitchen noticing the box of onigiri left out along with his brother’s birthday note to you. He rolled his eyes of course Osamu remembered. That’s probably where you are ,now that he thinks about it, that or your heading to Suna that’s who you always ran to he grimaced.
Thinking back to high school when the two of you had first gotten together he had introduced you to the team. You and Suna just clicked it was like you had been friends all of your lives the way you easily laughed and joked together. He had never seen anyone pull Suna from his shell the way you had and he still hadn’t. Not a single one of the middle blockers previous significant others had ever pulled the same reaction from the stoic man as you had. It didn’t take Tsumu long to realize the fool was head over heels for you. But it’s didn’t matter to him you were completely oblivious to blockers affections, as well as the fact that you were dutifully loyal to the setter. He wasn’t worried because what was Suna compared to him.
While he figures he should call either of the two to make sure you are indeed safe, he doesn’t feel like getting a lecture right before bed. He grabs his glass of water before heading to bed. Noticing how cold the mattress is without you. It’s fine he thinks he doesn’t need you. He knew that fact from the countless woman he’d beded in the last few years. Plus he’s sure you’ll come back. He’s the only man you’ve ever loved.
———
Atsumu wakes the next morning to find the house eerily quiet. He pays little mind to it before heading off to the gym he has a game today he can’t allow himself to be distracted. The setters normal routine isn’t disrupted for the most part. Finding his team doing his warm ups. He does however run into Osamu at the gym he’s setting up his vendors stand for Onigiri Miya. His brother says nothing of you to Atsumu minus some well wishes. So you must have ran to Suna he muses. His game goes off with out a hitch securing the victory for MSBY.
He finds the house just as he left it no trace of you having step foot back into your home. He checks his phone looking for a sign that you want to talk. No messages or calls. He decides to try and check you location but it seems that your number is no longer connected to his plan. He furrows his brow it seemed like a big step but he brushes it off his mind. He had just won a big game he wanted to celebrate. Usually he’d have dinner with you either going out or indulging in your delicious home cooking, you both share smiles about the game either her gushing about her favorite moments had she attended the game which normally she’d try to make a priority, although there were times you’d have class or work and you have to miss in which you’d sit and listen to him starry eyed as he retold the highlights of the game. You look at him like he was a star shooting across the sky. But right now the kitchen was empty and the house was silent missing the awes of your praise. It was to much at the moment. The setter changes into something dashing before heading out he’ll grab something to eat and then maybe get a celebratory drink.
That’s how Atsumu found himself here at some sleek bar with a glass of scotch in his hand. He surveyed the bar watching the people around dance and talk and go about their night. He try’s not to think about the silence waiting for him at home .That’s until he spots a girl. She look kind of like you similar build although her hair is longer and a slightly different hue. He knows it’s not you but still that hasn’t stopped him before so he slides his way over to her.
“Hi there,” he smiles a charming smile. She looks up at him giving a sly smile. From here he can see her eyes they’re nothing like yours, he shakes the thought from his head. “You know your boyfriend really shouldn’t leave you all alone like this you are much to beautiful,” if he a a nickel for every time he used that line he could probably retire early. He could see a slight blush appear on her cheeks.
“I would tell him but I don’t have one Mr. — ,” she trailed off leaving an opening for his name.
“Miya,” he smiles a bright fake smile. “And you are?” He questions.
“Chiyo,” she smile subtly biting her lip as her eyes raked down his figure. It’s almost too easy he thinks to himself.
“Well Chiyo-San may I buy you a drink?” He not so subtly eyes her as well.
And that how he got here for the first time ever he brought a woman home to your bed. Their body’s mashed together. Their clothes strewn around the house leading a trail to the bedroom. The recently quiet house filled with grunts and moans. “Miya-San,”she cry’s out and he has to try not to roll his eyes. She might look like you but she sounds nothing like you. You always makes the prettiest gasps and mewls as he worked your body over. She doesn’t feel like you, he can’t remember the last time you were together like this breathless underneath him. He shakes his head trying to rid himself of the thoughts. He’s confused he never compared you before with is flings you were always separate from his mind when the slept with other women. Frustrated with his thoughts he pulls out flipping the chick ,what was her name Chizu? , over on her knees before pounding into her relentlessly pushing her face in to the mattress as he took frustrations out. Her moans get louder as his face scrunches up in annoyance. It’s not long before he’s finished them both off and she laying there breathless as he throws away the condom. He see her make herself a little more comfortable on his bed he shared with you. He cringes.
“Hey Chizu, uh it’s probably best if you get going,” he states pulling a pair of sweatpants on.
He can see the disgust on her face. “My name is Chiyo asshole!” She says grabbing her clothes on as she start out the door.
Normally he’d care that he’d at least said the wrong name. But right now he just laid on the bed staring at the ceiling. The silence was back.
———
It has been two weeks since you left. He hadn’t heard from you, you never came back for your stuff. He hasn’t heard from Suna yet either although he figures the ass is to busy trying win and mend your broken heart. It’s only been two weeks but those two weeks without you were torture. He realized very quickly how much comfort you brought to him. How much he relied on you. All the mornings you’d spend cuddled together drinking your morning coffee. Although that had been less recent while he busying himself with Yuki. He missed the delicious meals you’d cook. Or the way you’d take care of him if he’d train to hard. He misses seeing you at the desk studying away your tongue poking out ever so slightly as you concentrated. He misses your laugh that would fill the house as you watched whatever anime you were currently bingeing always asking him to join you. You were always the one looking out for him making sure that he ate and rested. Always handling the groceries and the house work. The place was a mess without you he was a mess with out you. He misses the life you brought to the his home. He’s drawn from with wallowing when he hears knocks at the door.
He’s surprised to see his brother and Suna standing on the other side.
“Hey I’ve been trying to get in touch with YN but she’s hasn’t been answering is she here?” Suna asks stepping to his house his brother following behind. Suna stops his face scrunching up at the state of the place. Osamu also notices.
“Damn Tsumu its a mess in here YN let y’all live like this?” His twin asks taking a good look at his disheveled twin. “What happened,” concern crossing his similar features.
Atsumus mind starts to reel a bit. You werent with Suna?
“YN hasn’t been with you?” He looks at the middle blocker he was hoping he knew how you were.
“No,” he states starting to get really worried. “What happened,” there was an edge to his voice.
Atsumu stayed quiet. His brother nudges him but he still looks down. It isn’t until Suna grabs him by his collar that he looks up.
“She left me.”He states.
“That makes no sense YN loves you with everything she has she wouldn’t just leave you, what happened,” Osamu questions again.
“I cheated on her and she found out,” he says. He doesn’t look up but he can feel the rage coming off of Suna and the disappointment from his twin.
“What the fuck do you mean you cheated on her!” he yelled shaking him “for how long!”
The was no use lying and trying to hide it you weren’t coming back he can tell. And even if you would he knew he didn’t deserve you.
“The past 2 years,” he chokes out. Suna let’s go of his collar in disbelief. He breaths getting ready to explain everything but he wasn’t ready when he felt a fist connect with his cheek. He was on the ground rubbing his jaw. He looked up and Suna was seething in anger. His brother looked disgusted with him.
“Where is she,” Suna demanded.
“I don’t know she left two weeks ago I figured she was with you,”
“So lets get this straight you broke her heart and she left you and you didn’t even check to make sure she was safe! Did you ever even love her,” the dark haired middle blocker screamed at his former teammate.Of course he did but he cant say that not after he never showed it. He look down he couldn’t meet his friends eyes he felt so ashamed. He heard a scoff and then the front door slam. Suna was gone. He looked up and saw his brother staring down at him.
“You’re a real piece of shit you know that,” Samu says before he follows out the door.
Sobs tear through Tsumu as he realizes he ruined everything.
He sat there on the floor left in silence.

MY SAFE SPACE
astumu miya x fem!reader
angst + comfort
just a lil wip :p
~
the bright gym lights beat down heat on the backs of the team. shoes squeaked and there was a prominent smell of sweat and rubber surrounding the bleachers.
for a moment time had stopped, and his heart did too. it was all too late he feared. nothing more could have been done, but there was still a feeling of persistence in his bones, lying in wait to be awakened and to shake violently with the small amount of fight left in him.
it all moved in slow motion, his teammate diving to keep the ball alive, the mere centimeters he missed, the ball hitting the ground. the lights seemed to increasingly get brighter, and it seemed like his feet weighed the weight of the world.
he froze and the world went quiet.
so quiet that he hadn’t heard the sound of the whistle, or at least his brain hadn’t processed it. he could hear his rapid heart beating, and his opponents moving with glee and vigor.
and then it hit. his heart sunk, and it sunk so hard he thought there was a black hole in its place.
that was it. his last high school volleyball game.
he did not hear a word said in the meeting in the locker room except to bring the jerseys to practice tomorrow morning. to leave the last 4 years of his life in a storage room for some other player to wear for next year.
he was quiet on the ride home, too quiet his twin thought. but it was to be expected when all your hard work went down the drain.
his feet were heavy as he climbed up the stairs, his shoulders slumped and head down. he wanted nothing more then to just lie down and never get up again and to wither away.
but more than anything, he wanted to wash away the layer of skin he played in today, all the grime and sorrow. the hot water pelted his back, steam clouding his vision. he felt that maybe the boiling hot water could melt away the tension of the past few hours.
solemnly he walked to his room, the cold air on his bare chest felt like a breath of fresh air. he sat on the edge of his bed and just stayed there for what felt like ages.
he didn’t hear his door open, nor did he hear your footsteps making their way towards him. he only processed that you were there when you stood right in front of him between his legs.
he blinked a couple times, and that’s when the tears started pouring.
he threw his arms around your legs and buried his head in your abdomen, sobbing and clenching your tank top in his hands for dear life.
and you stood there, arms around his head, fingers sweeping through his hair and shushing his muffled cries. you rubbed his back to help soothe the heart break he felt. he cried until all you could hear were quiet sniffles and his breathing was not as rapid as before.
you gently unwrapped his arms from around your waist and slid into his bed, motioning for him to follow you and he complied.
he wrapped his arms around your waist and buried his chest in the valley of your breast, entangling your legs together.
you still felt tears fall on your chest, but not as frequently. laying multiple kisses on his head, you continuing to rub soothing circles on his back. you waited until his breathing was even and his shoulders stopped shuddering to cheer him up.
now was definitely not the right time, but you decided to take a shot in the dark.
you tilt his head up, your soft and tender hands caressing his jaw and cheekbones that were puffy. you both stared into each others eyes for a moment, trying to read each others emotions.
so you decided to make a move and leaned in closer until your lips met his in a soft and tender kiss. he reciprocated the kiss almost (if not) immediately and his grip on your waist tightened.
he tasted like salt and peaches, and odd but comforting combo.
it was electrifying and incredibly sweet, and a little bit of the ache in his heart had gone away.
you both pulled apart and gazed into each others eyes, wiping his cheeks and sending a small smile his way.
a few more pecks and kisses and he was out like a light, drooling all over your chest and a killer grip on the back of your shirt.
content in your warm embrace that could mend his soul.

the breaking
"Do you really love me?"
The question echoed through Atsumu's head. It was jarring for him to hear the heartbreak in your voice over and over, the faint crack in your voice as you uttered the word ‘love’. You were looking up at him, your eyes wet with unshed tears. Your bottom lip wobbled as you stared up at him. The silence was heavy between you both. He watched as you pressed your lips together, trying to stop the wobbling. Hands curled into tight fists at your side.
There were so many ways he could answer that question. Any response seemed futile. He could feel you pulling away from him, both physically and mentally. Hesitantly, he raised his hand, fingers shaking, and cupped your face, using his thumb to brush away the first tear that had fallen from your eyes. The pad of his thumb was rough, a sensation you were distantly aware of even though you felt numb inside. In response, you tilted your head away, reaching up a fist to push his hand away.
“Just…” You drew in a shaky breath. “Just stop. Please. I just need to know. Do you really love me?”
There was the question again, more cracked and distorted than before as the tears ran freely down your face. He looked down, unable to meet your gaze.
“I don’t know.”
They were whispered, but you heard.
“Okay,” you replied, voice equally quiet.
Not bothering to look in his direction again, you grabbed your coat from the chair you had dropped it on and left, letting the door slam behind you. He dropped to his knees, hands racking through his bleached blonde hair.
He muttered into the quiet, “What the fuck have I done?”

フェア関西のルームメイト二名 (The Two Roommates from Fair Kansai)
Chapter 2: The Typo
Tumblr media
Previous | Next
Description: In which while typing a roommate ad online, the famed Miya Atsumu, (23) MSBY Jackals Setter, makes a detrimental typo that leads to an influx of women applicants. Confused, but not completely opposed (the idiot), Miya Atsumu lands on a formidable candidate. Y/n L/n. A Biotechnology major at Kansai University, looking for a change after her last disastrous roommates and some space from a particular complication. It’s odd, but it’ll work. Maybe a little too well.
Pairings: Miya Atsumu x Reader
Warnings: None!
Word Count: ~1.4k
A/n: Cross posted from my AO3. I update there first, so if you want the chapters sooner, check it out!
To say Atsumu was overwhelmed would be an understatement. When one of the athletic directors approached him saying how his phone kept going off in the locker room, he was concerned something was seriously wrong. As a precaution, they assure him that if it was an emergency that he should feel free to take the day. But upon closer inspection, he quickly realized that wouldn’t be necessary. He scrolled through what seemed like pages of messages and missed calls about the ad. And not just any inquiries, but…
“ALL WOMEN!” Atsumu exclaimed loudly in the busy shop. A few annoyed heads turned to the source of the outburst.
Osamu rolled his eyes, “‘Tsumu, we talked about this. Having you come during busy hours is already enough of a nuisance, but could you keep it down? This is still a public place.”
“But ‘Samu! What am I going to do?” Atsumu whisper-shouted like it would help his outburst, but it still elicited a few head turns, “I already didn’t want to room with a stranger! And now all of the applicants are girls? This has to be some sort of joke.”
Osamu helped with the line and handed out a few orders to customers before focusing some energy on his dramatic brother. “Well, did you specify that you were only looking for male roommate?”
Atsumu picked at the stray rice grains on his plate as he tried to remember what he wrote. He couldn’t remember specifying anything about the roommate themselves; focusing mainly on the apartment itself. He voiced his thoughts to his brother.
“Hmm, well Atsumu can be a girl's name. Maybe that’s why?”
He tried not to be offended at his brother’s comment, mainly because he was partially right. It’s possible that they’re assuming he’s a girl. But that doesn’t make entire sense either. Is it possible his fan club found the posting? That seemed pretty possible. Atsumu knew fangirls could get crazy when they wanted to be.
Osamu finished some things behind the bar and went over to sit by Atsumu. The two contemplated his conundrum over a fresh plate of onigiri. After Osamu’s second, he spoke up, “Just for science, can I see your ad?”
Atsumu gave him an incredulous look, but pulled up the ad anyway, “I mean, sure, but I don’t think-”
At Atsumu’s sudden silence, Osamu’s curiosity was piqued, “”Tsumu? Everything okay?”
Wordlessly he handed the phone over and Osamu read through the ad. Immediately after reading, he burst into laughter.
“‘Samu! This isn’t funny!”
But Osamu was laughing so hard he couldn’t even speak. Some of his employees turned out of concern and curiosity at their boss’ sudden burst. Eventually, he calmed down enough to choke out a “you are in some trouble, ‘Tsumu”.

“Alright, that wraps it up for today. Finish the calculations on your own time and be sure to bring back your completed form by next class. See you Tuesday!”
The sound of chairs scraping against the floor harmonized with the zipping and unzipping of backpacks as the classroom got up to leave. Y/n pulled out her phone to finally check her messages.
From: Mom
Found a listing in Osaka that looks interesting. Good apartment with really good pricing. You should give them a call.
(link)
Y/n typed a quick thank you before clicking on the link. Her mom was right. It looked like a decent location and a not too bad price. Trying to look for any information on the roommate (roommates?), all she could see was a number and a name at the bottom of the ad. What a strange listing. It was probably the shortest listing she’d ever come across--and definitely the most to the point.
Y/n sat and stared at the listing for a little bit while weighing her options. She just got out of an interesting situation in Suita, but she was now living with her parents. Which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, but both her and her parents weren’t exactly jumping at the idea of her moving back in, especially with her graduating college next year.
Making up her mind, she copied the number and sent a quick text to the number on the ad. A silent prayer was sent to whoever was listening. This wouldn’t fix all of her problems, but this would solve a big one and she swore she would be able to handle the rest.
--
“And you told me I was loud,” Now Atsumu was getting antsy about the amount of people staring at his hysteric brother. “”Samu, you need to calm down.”
This had been going on for at least ten minutes now. Osamu would read through the ad, get sent into a fit of laughter, finally calm down, but then would read it again and the cycle would start all over again. Not used to being the responsible twin, in addition to being extremely embarrassed by his brother’s reaction to his typo, Atsumu was at a loss for what to do. He tried sending reassuring smiles to patrons and mumbled some apologies, but that was the extent of his capabilities.
Finally, Osamu calmed down and pushed Atsumu’s phone back to him. Taking a deep breath to compose himself, Osamu tried to console his brother, “Hey, maybe this won’t be such a bad thing. Surely, there’s at least one of those girls that you could at least be civil with.”
Atsumu scrolled through his messages again, exacerbated, “Even if that’s true! There’s too many! I don’t really have the time to sit and go through all of these.”
There were at least 100 people who had responded to his ad and where the messages definitely weren’t flooding in as much as they had earlier that day, he would get a notification about once every 15-20 minutes. By the time he got through the original applicants, there would be another 100-200 to take their place. In between practice and conditioning, there was no way Atsumu was going to be able to get through these all by himself.
“Tell you what,” Osamu leaned back in the chair he was sitting in, “Since this was partially my idea, I’ll help you tonight after I close up. And if we can’t find anyone, I’ll help you write up a better listing and we can delete this one.”
Atsumu’s other issue with all of these applicants is that he really didn’t want to spend energy looking through dozens of descriptions and deciding if he would like them or not. He assumed it would be like the dating app he had for a couple weeks, but worse. Atsumu really didn’t like the idea of judging someone based on a single paragraph they wrote about themselves. He preferred a more personal approach. Like with the various spikers and teammates he’d played with over the years, he was really good at reading people in person. Within a short conversation, he could pretty accurately lay out a person’s personality (what things they might like, what might make them tick, what things they were indifferent to). Over the internet it was much more difficult.
He guessed he could always ask them to meet in person, right? That was something people did. They could meet at his brother’s restaurant so then Osamu could get a feel for the other person. Atsumu figured it would also get one glaring issue out of the way: he was a guy.
It was a fool proof plan. Osamu and him would sort through the applicants tonight and he would invite them to meet him in person. This way he can see if it’s going to work or not and if they aren’t comfortable with rooming with a guy they can just leave. Genius!
Atsumu recounted his plan to his brother and Osamu was in agreement. With that, the blonde brother left to go to afternoon conditioning, planning on returning just before close to sneak in a few more onigiri from his brother before the long haul.
