Mini Fanfic #1006: Meeting the Velvet Father (Persona 5)
1:23 p.m. at the Velvet District's Elevator........
As they wait and stand inside the elevator together, Morgana starts shaking a bit in fear at the thought of meeting his girlfriend's creator (or father as she likes to put it) for the first time. It wasn't long for Lavenza, in question, however, to gently hold onto to his hand to help calm his nerves while having a soft, reassuring smile on her face
Lavenza: Are you feeling alright, my dear?
Morgana: ('Sighs a Bit Heavily') Yeah....I'm just....nervous about the whole greet and meet thing is all.
Lavenza: Oh there's no need for you to worry. You've met him before in the past, right?
Morgana: Not....really? I mean, I've seen gleams of him here and there, but I don't think I remember meeting him face to face before. Though, I have heard that he has the ability to wipe an entire person's existence away with the palm of his hands....He....doesn't really do any of that, does he?
Lavenza: Not that I know of. (Smiles Softly at her Boyfriend) But I can assure that my father is one of the nicest men you'll ever have the pleasure of meeting, despite his many....(Starts Rolling her Eyes a Little) many interesting antics......
Morgana: (Raises an Eyebrow in Confusion) Interesting?
'Ding'
Lavenza: (Smiles Sheepishly) I'm....sure you'll see what I mean eventually. In the mean.....(Starts Tidying Up Mona's Collar) Just stay calm....(Brust Off Any Speck of Dust on his Shoulders) Be yourself ....(Gently Grab Both of his Hands) And remember that I will always be right by your side no matter what happens. (Kiss Mona in the Cheek)
Morgana: (Immediately Starts Blushing) Lavenza.....(Begins Nodding While Putting on a Determined Look on his Face) You're right. I've come this far to back out from this now. So I gotta make this impression count!.....Hopefully.
Lavenza let's out a soft giggle as she and Morgana begins to walk out of the elevator side by side. As they approach their destination to the Velvet Room, they are greeted to a strange yet wise looking old man with a wide grin on his face and pointy nose to boop, sitting behind his desk. As he sees the young couple walking down to his presence, he gives his paperwork session a stretching halt while letting out a welcoming smile towards their presence.
Igor: Welcome, one and all, to the Velvet Room! (Turns Towards His Daughter) Lavenza, I hope your time at the planetary world has been treating you well as of late.
Lavenza: (Smiles Brightly) It most certainly have, father. (Greets Igor with a Proper Like Bow) And I do hope being here all day doesn't underwhelm you too badly.
Igor: (Smiles Back at his Daughter) Oh heavens no. While I do admit that this room has gotten uneventful for sometime now, I do find quiet atmosphere quite lovely for the most part. (Turns his Attention to Mona) Oh and you must be the dashing young man my daughter told me everything about.
Morgana: (Shakily Blurts Out....) M-Morgana Sakura Okumaru! (Quickly Bows Down at Igor in a Timid Fashion) Pleased to meet you!
Lavenza: (Pouts at her Boyfriend a Little) Mona-Chan, i thought I told you to be calm! (Place her Hand on Mona's Back Before Rubbing it Softly and Turning Back to Igor) He's been nervous to see you since we've got here.
Igor: Ah the classic case of cold feet. I remember having one of those when I was meeting face to face with the parents of a beautiful maiden.
Morgana: You were in a relationship before, Mr. Igor, sir?
Lavenza: Oh yes. He was in plenty of them to be in fact.
Morgana: (Eyes Widened in Surprise) Seriously?
Igor: (Smiles Sheepishly) I was...quite a catch with the ladies in my younger years. So much so that I even attempted to take out almost every admirer I had at the time, on lovely dates. Unfortunately, it....didn't take too long for all of them to discover my careless actions a couple of days later as I was given a harsh, yet fair punishment in the end. A little punching and kicking here and there...(Chuckles Very Lightly) I even remembered my father giving me one piece of chocolate after they left our shop. Such fond memories.....
Lavenza: (Places her Hands on her Hips While Giving Igor a Stern, Disappointed Glare) Well, I hope you were happy woth yourself, father. You should know better than to play with those ladies' hearts like that!
Morgana: Tell me about it. No amount of love and affection is worth getting that kind of karma.
Igor: Yes, but that karma in question did help me see the errors of my ways and Improve my growth as a human being. (Places a Hand on his Chest) And for that, I am truly grateful. (Chuckles Lightly) Well, I believe that's enough talk about this old fogey for now. Instead, tell me how the Joker and the rest of the Phantom Thieves are doing. It's been a while since I've heard from them as of late.
Morgana: (Smiles Brightly) They're all doing great, sir. I'm not sure if Lavenza already told you this or not, but they've graduated from high school last year.
Igor: (Simply Nodded) Oh I'm quite aware of the news in particular and I couldn't be anymore prouder. May their respective futures benefit each of them in the long run. This was also the day you've transformed into a full fledged human for the first time, yes? How are you enjoying the experience thus far, If you don't mind me asking of course.
Morgana: I'm loving it very much, Mr. Igor. (Starts Rubbing The Back of his Head Back and Forth) It's still take some getting used to and there's so many other things about the human nature I haven't goy around to learning yet, but I am definitely getting the hang of it thanks to the help from my friends....(Gently Holds Lavenza's Hand) and your daughter, sir. Wouldn't know what I would do without them.
Lavenza smiles softly at Morgana's words as She begins to lay her head onto his shoulder.
Igor: I see....(Smiles Softly) Well, that is very spendid to hear indeed. It's always wonderful to receive aid and assistance from your closest companions. And it makes me happier to see my daughter has found someone as kind, well-mannered, and loyal as yourself, my boy. She talks about you a great deal whenever she comes here to visit.
Lavenza: It's true. Even before the day we became a couple, I would always tell my father and siblings how special you are to me, regardless if I would fall for you or not. Though if I must be honest with myself for a second.....(Happily Snuggling onto Mona's Shoulder) I am truly blessed and thankful that the former has occurred in the middle of our developing relationship!~
Morgana: (Heart Begins to Melt in Pure Happiness) Lavenzaaaa~ Me too- (Eyes Suddenly Widens a Bit) Wait. You have siblings?
Lavenza: (Happily Nodded) That's right. Two older sisters and an older brother. I can't say that I've seen much of them as of late, but I am positive that they would be very delighted to meet you someday in the future.
Morgana: (Smiles Softly) Cool. I can't wait to meet them too. (Smiles a Bit Sheepishly While Rubbing the Back of his Head Back and Forth) And....Hope I make a good impression on them too.
Igor: Oh come now. There's no need for you to worry about that. I've raised those three as my very own for a very long time now, and while their personalities and characteristics contrast from one another the more they grow older, I can assure you with the utmost care and pride that rest of my children will be the most spendid Trio of young adults you will ever have the pleasure of meeting. So the only form of advice I could provide for you at the moment is to remain calm and be true to yourself.
Morgana: Huh. That's....almost the same thing Lavenza told me to do before meeting you.
Lavenza: (Proudly Nodded)
Igor: (Raises an Eyebrow) Is it now? And I take it that the advice she provided is helping you in any capacity?
Morgana: (Turns to His Girlfriend Standing Side By Side With Him as He Begins to Smile) Yeah. I think it's helping me out a lot right now. (Turns Back to Igor) And I'm really having a great time talking with you so far, sir. You're not as scary as I thought you would be.
Igor: (Happily Nodded at the Human Cat Boy) Likewise. I was a little skeptical about you at first, but as I said before, I am truly grateful for you making Lavenza happy. (Suddenly Puts on an Dark, Evil Grin on his Face) It would be a real shame if I were to ever find out otherwise. I can't say I ever remember the last time I've sent someone to the void of pure....blissful....nothingness......
Morgana: (Immediately Starts Shivering in Fear) N-N-Nothingness.....
Lavenza: ('Gasps') Father!
Igor: Yes. Nothingness. A fate far more worse than death I'm afraid......
Morgana: W-W-Worst.....than....death?.......
Igor: That's right. (Points at Morgana) And YOU will be the next permanent visitor if you dare to cause my daughter grief!
Morgana: (Places his Hands on Both Sides of his Head in Pure Horror) Oh god! Anything but Permanent! I'm too young to be banished alone!!!
Lavenza: (Couldn't Believe What is Happening Roght Now).Father, you will stop this nonsense at once-
Igor: (Suddenly Starts Snickering into a Heartly Laughter) Ahahahahahaha!~ (Inhales Before Sighing) My deepest apologies......(Wipes a Tear From his Eyes) It was rude of me to scare you like that, but I couldn't really help myself at that moment. (Starts Snickering Some More) I couldn't even send someone to the void even if I wanted to.
Morgana: (Sighs in Pure Relief as He Bends Down and Places his Hands onto his Knees') Ohhh thank god and Hades......
Igor: (Raises an Eyebrow in a Bit of Confusion) Hades?
Morgana: I'm thanking him for not getting me terrified to death.
Hades: It's what I do.
Lavenza: (Sighs as She Gently Places her Gand onto Mona's Shoulder) I am so sorry about father's immaturity, my dear. (Glares at Igor in Front of Her) It seems he doesn't know the slightest concept of making lighter jokes.
Igor: Yes, yes. I do admit, I did took that joke a tad bit too far.
Lavenza: A Tad!?
Igor: (Playfully Raises his Hands Up to his Fafe in Defense) M-Mostly! I....took it mostly too far....But in order to make up for my carelessness, how about I present you two for a time of tea. (Makes a Set of Teapot, Cups, a Playe of Cookies and Chairs Appear With the Single Movement of his Hand) It will be my treat.
Lavenza: (Turns to Mona Woth a Soft Smile) What do you say, Mona-Chan? A simple, relaxing tea party to help ease your mind a bit?
Morgana: ('Sigh') Yeah....(Starts Making his Way to Igor's Tavle With Lavenza By his Side) Some tea and cookies would be great right about now. (Smiles Softly) Thank you, Mr. Igor.
Igor: (Properly Bows Towards Morgana) The pleasure is all mine, young man.

Classic "promised-at-birth-to-the-Ghost-King" story, except the contract never states how, exactly, the King is to use the offered soul. Usually, one would be offered as a bride or sacrifice. But with Pariah Dark sealed away, his retainers got a little lazy in the last few millennia. They just made some generic contracts and practically handed them out like candy.
When Danny took over as king via conquest, that included all the weird and messed up soul contracts the previous retainers had signed. And since ghost magic was a thing and seemed to have it out for Danny personally, many of these contracts updated their terms and conditions as soon as that crown hit Danny's head, reflecting the new King's subconscious desires and personality.
This caused many issues with those still around to profit from these contracts. Some people lost their power, some gained more, and some were unbound and kicked to the curb. A few special people found themselves dropping dead after their less-than-ethical abilities disappeared.
Danny was unaware of the chaos he had unintentionally caused for quite a while. It was only brought to his attention when a letter arrived on his desk one day with a copy of someone's valid contract enclosed. The new changes have been highlighted, and a separate note is attached.
It seems that in exchange for blessings of near-immortality for her infant son, a mother had offered Pariah Dark both their souls in order to ensure her child's survival during harsh times. (The souls were to be collected upon death and were to be used as soldiers in the King's Army.) The mother's soul had returned to the Keep decades ago and was recently assigned to tend to the gardens, while her son seemed to have grown into a fine gentleman and was still alive. He used his mother's gifts to serve his country and loved ones well, it seemed.
At first, Danny didn't see what any of this had to do with him. If the mother was already a part of his kingdom, and the son would be eventually, why was a letter about the whole thing showing up before him?
Then he read the revised contract, which bore his magical signature. A signature that overruled the power of Pariah and binding it to him.
'...and as such, in return for the abilities stated above, [Mary Pennyworth] and [Alfred Pennyworth] will fulfill the conditions detailed below, upon pain of Ending.
[Mary Pennyworth], when returned to the Kingdom of Dark Kingdom of Stars, will work as a lieutenant in the Skeleton Army caretaker in the Gardens of Pluto.
STATUS: COMPLETED
[Alfred Pennyworth], when returned to the Kingdom of Dark Kingdom of Stars, will work as a general in the Skeleton Army caretaker of the King and his Court.
STATUS: PENDING'
Danny had to re-read the contract several times to understand what it was saying. He now had a caretaker? What did a caretaker do? Was it like a ghost parent? Could this guy ghost-ground him??
He sighed and pressed the speed dial on his phone for Tucker. Time to find out who the hell this Alfred Pennyworth guy was, and how to break a magic contract when it wasn't even fulfilled yet.
Meanwhile, Alfred had just found the original copy of the contract amongst his mother's belongings after it glowed and drew him in. The paperwork cleared up a lot of mysteries he'd always wondered about himself, even if he disapproved of his mother's methods. Nonetheless, he smoothed out the aged paper with dark green ink, noted the fresh (sloppy, a teenager?) signature, and began preparing to meet this supposed new King and his Court.
It wouldn't hurt to make introductions before he died, after all.
