"Before I go, I wanted to get you something special." Your dad says, turning around to rummage in his bag. You watched his back in curiosity, wondering what he would have gotten his 22-year-old daughter. He was going on a business trip for about 2 weeks, but every time spent away from you, your dad always got you something. Mostly plushies, or some childish stickers. It started as a kid, your dad would always have to leave due to business trips, so it's kind of sweet he still does it.
"Tada!" He excitedly says, turning around while holding a large plush in his hands. In his hands, he held a rather large stuffed bear. It wore a black vest with a blue shirt, housing a rather cute black and white heart. It's fur was grey, with large blue eyes.
You smiled at him, thinking that the bear was incredibly cute for just being a stuffed bear. "Aw dad, he's so adorable!" You squealed, taking the bear from your dad's hands. He puffed out his chest in pride due to your reaction.
"I bought him in the cafe next to your work, they said he was one of a kind. I'm pretty sure he has a name too, check the tag." You rolled the tag on the bear's back around and looked at the tiny words. Your boyfriend- Peter!
"So your names Peter huh?" You smile and hold the bear to your chest. "Thank you dad, this is much better than those paw patrol stickers from last time." You playfully roll your eyes as your dad clutches his chest in a playful manner.
"You hurt me Y/n, I thought that was your favorite show." He fakes his painful expression as you laugh.
"Yeah, from like when I was 5!" You shout at your dramatic dad. Once the giggling fades, you move in to hug him. "Stay safe, ok?" You mumble into his chest. Your dad wraps his arms around you, pulling you tighter in.
"I'll be back before you know it." He kisses the top of your head and lets you go, moving to enter his car. As he drives off, you wave goodbye. Returning your focus on the bear in your arms, you smile as you run your fingers through his soft fur. Entering the house, you make your way towards your bedroom.
Placing the bear on your bed, you settle him between your pillows before leaving the room. "What to do now.." You mumble just as your stomach growls. Food, of course. You hadn't even eaten breakfast. It was just 5 minutes past 9 AM. Your dad usually leaves early on business trips, so you wake up to say goodbye.
Entering the kitchen, you go to prepare some food. The day moves on as you do your usual activities on your off days. Clean the house, get some groceries, dread going to work the next day. You decided to try and relax, preparing a hot enough to melt your bones bath. Perfect.
You stripped in the bathroom, setting your clothes on the counter before realizing you forgot one thing. Wrapping a towel around your nude body, you enter your room for a candle to light. You then notice how your bear was suddenly not on your bed. Your brows furrow as you stepped closer to your bed before feeling a soft plush under your foot. You yelp and scramble backward, tripping on your own feet before falling on your ass.
You moan in pain as your rub your pained butt, looking forwards at the monster that tripped you. It was.. Peter? "Peter? How did you get on the floor?" The window wasn't open, preventing the breeze from coming in. Even though you don't think a little breeze would knock over a plush bear. Your exposed legs closed as you move to crawl towards your bear.
In doing so, your towel got caught under your knee, pulling it down from your chest. There you sat, crawling towards your bear in the nude. You didn't really care, there was no one else but you home and besides, you walked around this house naked before. You got to your bear, taking hold of its.. Hot body?
Was it in the sun or something? His fur felt warm as well a pink tint on its cheeks. Maybe you just didn't see the pink outside. You stood up, holding the bear to your chest before placing it back on your bed. "Now you stay there, alright?" You say, pointing a finger at the grey bear before grabbing the items you need, making your way back to the bathroom.
The day went on with no more predicaments. You relaxed in your bath, ate as much as you wanted without annoying comments.. And soon enough the day was coming to an end. Changing into your pj's, you stripped once more in your room and threw on a t-shirt and some shorts.
Washing your face, you hopped back into your room and jumped onto the bed. Bouncing up and down with your new teddy, you smiled before pulling out your phone. You brought the bear under your arms, looking as though you're cuddling it as you scroll through social media.
Eventually, you got tired and put away your phone on the nightstand. Turning off your light, you rolled over, away from the plush before falling asleep. As the clock reached 12, your bed suddenly bore new weight.
Your bear disappeared from view, instead, a man took its place. Beside you, the man silently watched as you slept. He wore the same as his stuffy counterpart, but with the addition of black pants. Blue eyes, almost suffocating, stared at your unconscious body.
Feeling his grin widen, so did his boxers. "Oh darling, I almost couldn't control myself after that show you pulled earlier.." He whispered as his hand ghosted your cheek, almost touching your warm skin before stopping himself. He got off the bed, making his way to the other side, towards where you've turned.
Leaning down, his face stood in front of yours. His breathing turned heavy as he stared at your face. Cheeks dusted with red blush, a large tent formed in his pants. Soon, the pounding of his cock beneath his clothes became too much for him. Growing annoyed, he figured he can just relieve himself while watching you..
The next day was busy. Having to get up early, get ready for work, and whatnot. Thankfully, the shift seemed to end quickly. Although you hate it when it gets super busy, it does make the time fly by. When you got home, you kicked off your shoes and headed straight for the shower.
Walking in your room to grab your pj's, you smile as you spot Peter on the bed. "Hi Peter, did you get lonely when I was gone." You asked the stuffed animal.
...
Why are you talking to a plushie.
After your shower, you flopped down on your bed. Grabbing the bear, you set him on your chest as you stared into your phone. Peter couldn't see your face but did feel your breasts underneath him. Rising up and down from your breathing, he watched you as scrolled endlessly.
The first week went by quickly, your routine being work, shower, lounge around. Maybe do some chores here and there, obviously you had a little more control when your dad was out, and do some snack trips.
All the while, every night when the clock hits 12, your little bear would turn into a 6'5 man. Who is awfully obsessed with you. He wishes you would take him everywhere, feeling anger every time you leave him on the bed. But it's to be expected, you still only know of his toy form. That would change this week.
Only having a week until your father gets home, he doesn't want to miss his chance to introduce himself. He doesn't know why he waited this long anyway, I guess it's just so fun to watch your sleeping face as he.. Uh, does his 'activities'.
As of right now, it was about 11:50. Just 10 more minutes. He could wait that long. You had already gone to bed, sleeping like an angel, but facing away from him. He grumbled as the clock took its time ticking.
But alas, it struck midnight. He stretched his stiff body, staying in the same position every day unless you readjusted him. He moved his weight off the bed, walking over to the side where you lay before kneeling down.
He smiled as he leaned in close, feeling your soft breaths through your nose on his. Watching you sleep was a ritual, but recording every detail of you was a way of art. The way your nostrils flared slightly as you breathed out, your lips growing dryer throughout the night, and your beautiful open eyes..
Opened eyes?
The first thing you usually woke up to was either your nightstand or the ceiling. Not a pair of large, blue eyes. Wait, blue eyes? You shot up, away from the strange man as you scooted to the other side of your bed.
"Who are you." You shakily spoke, feeling around the bed for anything you could use as a weapon. In doing so, you realize your bear is now missing. Your eyes now pierce the stranger on the other side of the bed, not daring to move as he stares at you. Wait a minute..
He looks familiar. His clothing reminds you of your bear. As well as his eyes.. And skin too?? "Peter..?" You whisper, furrowing your brows. His eyes light up, a grin spreading across his face.
"Yes! I'm your boyfriend." He comes up on the bed, sitting in front of you as confusion racks your brain.
"Wait- Are you really my stuffed bear?" He nods. "But how? You're a stuffed BEAR! Not a human? Are you a cursed bear or something?" You look at his skin, trying to find any markings of curses or what not when he grabs your hands softly.
"I'm not cursed. I turn into a human at midnight each night." He smiles, rubbing his thumb over your hand. "You're really cute when you sleep." Bringing your hand up, he rubs his cheek against your palm, all the while as he stares at you.
Your mouth opens, flabbergasted at what you've just been told. Your bear can turn into a human. Each night. And he's been staring at you while you sleep?? "How come you didn't tell me before? You could have just woken me up."
"You're always so busy in the mornings, and I want you to get your beauty rest.~" He mumbles, rubbing his face into your hand. You let it happen, a bit weirded out but I mean, it is your bear. Your bear.. That saw you naked... MULTIPLE TIMES.
OH MY GOD.
Your cheeks suddenly flush, remembering all the times you've been naked in your room the past week. The first day burns into your mind. He takes notice of your blush, grinning as he guesses what you're thinking about.
"You know, I've seen your body so many times yet you have never seen mine." Great observation dude, this is the first time I'm learning about it too.
"What are you saying?" His rubbing stopped, seeing him lick his lips before bringing his head up. My hand falls onto my lap as he grins.
"If you want.. I could show you." He's offering to show you his body? Actually, you've never seen a man's body. In-person, of course. It's not like you haven't had boyfriends, but you never got close enough for 3rd base. This- your teddy bear is now offering to show you his junk.
...
You were a little curious.
"I've listened to the videos you watched, and albeit I'm still furious that you would look at other bodies while pleasuring yourself but, I've only ever heard male voices." Your face burned in shame. Completely forgetting most of the time that your bear was right beside you as you touched yourself, he was right.
Your history consisted of mostly guys jerking off. You just found it fascinating and fucking hot, how they came. The different ways they would touch themselves too, and their small groans of pleasure.. Thinking about this is getting you a little wet..
"Oh um well.." You didn't know what to say. 'Yes, I wanna see your dick.' ?? God you were such a virgin. He watched you with a smirk, watching as your eyes zoomed everywhere but his eyes. He could tell you wanted to say yes, but you were just too embarrassed. Cute.
Slowly, he grabbed hold of your hands and placed them on his chest. You let out a quick 'eep' as you felt his hard chest. Looking up towards him, his encouraging smile allowed you to run your hands over his shirt. Your hands were a bit shaky at first, but you kept telling yourself this was alright. It was your stuffed bear anyways.
Moving one hand down, you poked his belly button, making him laugh a bit. That seemed to ease you, moving your hands more freely around his chest. You got curious, wanting to see under the vest and shirt.
You inched your hands down, looking up at him as you do so. You flick your fingers under his shirt, slowly pulling it up. He stared at you and grinned, allowing you to do so. "My, so eager.."
"Shh!" You blushed as you lifted his shirt up. He took off his vest as you placed your hand just below his collar bone, holding up the shirt as your other hand cautiously touches his free skin.
His skin was cold, and grey. Flinching at your first touch, you watch in awe as his stomach clenches before relaxing. His belly button was small, a cute innie. Your hand moved up from his hips towards his nipples. They were a darker shade of grey than him, small as well.
You ran your fingers over his right one, instantly becoming hard from your touch. Your cheeks flushed with heat and color as he arched his back, pushing his chest out towards you. You softly pinched one, making him let out a soft moan. You immediately release his nipple and throw your hands up, shocked. His shirt fell after your hand left, as his eyes stared at you in confusion. "Did I do something wrong, darling?" His whispered voice made you want to writhe in excitement. You made a guy feel good! Even moan! Your fantasies were coming true, and oh boy were you gonna milk this.
"N-no.. I just got a little excited." You mumble, fanning yourself with your hands. His face morphed into one of pure delight, his cheeks dusted with the same pink as you. Lifting his hand up, he pulled his shirt up and grabbed one of your hands, placing your palm against his chest once more.
"Then by all means.. Continue to explore." You felt your legs twitch as you got even more aroused. Now with another free hand, you used both to play with his nipples. Twisting, flicking, pulling, all the while a large tent was forming under his pants. You wondered what it would feel like licking his nipples.. Should you- ask?
...
"Can I.. Can I lick them?" Peter almost creamed in his pants. Figuring you were too far though, he grabbed your waist and pulled you upon his lap.
"You can do whatever you want with me. I'm yours." He answered, begging in his head that you would do much more than lick his nips. You licked your lips as you stared at his swollen nipples, moving your head closer towards his chest before your mouth was almost touching one of them.
You opened your mouth, lolling out your tongue before giving a quick flick onto one of them. Peter's body flinched at the cold contact, creating a jolt of pleasure straight to his pelvis. You pulled his nipple into your mouth, twirling it around your tongue. He let out more moans, encouraging you to do more.
Softly biting into his skin, he continued to be at your mercy. You released him from your mouth, looking at the bite marks encased into his skin. You grinned, staring at his flushed face. "I didn't know you were so sensitive." You teased, trailing a finger around his abused nipple.
He smirked, deciding to say nothing but look down. Following his gaze, you suddenly realized that you were subconsciously grinding against his knee. You opened your mouth but closed it after not knowing what to say. God, how desperate were you?
"Didn't know you were so horny y/n." He let his shirt fall and grabbed your waist, moving you back and forth faster on his knee. You jolted and moaned, the feeling of someone else pleasuring you was far better than you expected.
"Mmm.. Oh god.." You clutched onto his shoulders as he swayed you, your shorts doing little to nothing in resistance, which you thanked. You jolted every time you moved, your breathing heavy as you felt nothing which you've felt before. You wanted more.
"Peter.. Do you wanna do it?" You moaned into his ear, still clutching onto his shoulders. He stopped moving you, softly pushing you off his knee and onto your back. Leaning over you, his wide blue eyes stared into yours. Rose dusted his cheeks as his tongue licked his lips.
"I've been waiting since day 1 to do this to you, darling." He leaned down, rubbing his head against your breasts. You bit your lip as your thighs trembled in anticipation. You could see his cock against his pants, trying to escape.
This would be your first time seeing a real cock. In person. Up close. And very, very, personal. He removed his head, touching his fingers against your shirt before pulling it off you. He stopped to admire, watching as your chest rises and falls, remembering the time he had sat there. God, you were so warm.
He moved down, pulling down your shorts. Easy enough, but he stopped at your underwear. Dragging his fingers over your clothed slit, you whined at the consistent pounding of your clit. "Patient love, like I have been.." He growled as he continued pushing into your clit. Due to how wet you were, your underwear soon became drenched at the constant pushing. He soon takes off your underwear, coming over you once more as he leaned down.
With the underwear in his hands, he takes a long lick up the cloth, sapping up all your juices. You watch, mouth agape. That was fucking hot. He smirked at your blinded reaction, too red to move. Throwing the panties on the ground, he pushed your legs up before spreading them apart.
Resting in front of you, it was now time for the grand show. "Are you ready to take me all dear?" He purred, reaching for his zipper.
"Yes! I want your cock inside me, please!" You cry, all the teasing from him was too much for your virgin self. He chuckled as he unzipped his pants, his cock almost protruding from his boxers. You breathed heavily as you stared at his erection. Such a pervert.
He brought down his boxers, pulling them down to his knees. There, his cock stood at full attention. "Is it- uh, always this big?" You gulped, seeing the size. He laughed, bringing a hand to your cheek, swiping his thumb against your skin.
"Only when I see you, darling."
"Will it fit?" You question.
Like an idiot.
"Of course it will. Don't worry, you'll only feel a little bit of pain. If it hurts, I'll take it out, alright?" He promised, giving you an oscar worthy smile. You relaxed a bit, trusting him enough to stick it in you. Just like your doctor.
You breathed out and nodded, confirming you still wanted to do it. He positioned himself over you, his tip touching your entrance. "Just relax, alright?" He leaned down, giving you the first kiss of the evening. Your lips mushed together, you being a bit less experienced but still, it was romantic.
Pulling away left a string of saliva, turning you on even more. He stroked himself over your slit before slowly pushing himself inside. The tip was alright, but past that it started to hurt. You grabbed onto his arms and squeezed, stopping him immediately. He nuzzled into your neck as you breathed, trying to relax.
As soon as you were ready, you nodded against his head. He kissed your shoulder before pushing himself further in. You breathed in and out, trying to relax. "I'm- in." He panted, resisting the urge to destroy you.
"Your so- b..big." You moan, clenching his arms. He chuckled, sweat growing on his forehead.
"Thank you dear, you're the perfect fit for me." He waited until you were alright, slowly pulling out as you gave him a nod. Pushing himself back in, you gasped. Continuing to do so slowly, pain turned into less pain before it turned into pleasure.
"F-faster." You moan into his ear. He complied happily, turning up the heat with his hips. The slapping of skin commenced in the room, panting and moans swirled around the 4 walls as sweat dripped.
His thrusts were hard, pushing himself in and out of your wet hole. His cock shone from your juices as he panted in your ear. Him being inside you excited you, but hearing his groans and pants? You thought you were already close to cumming.
His hands suddenly went to your hips, gripping into your skin as he pounded harder into you. Was he already close? His thrusts suddenly went wild, pounding into you harder and harder. You saw his thighs start to shake before he lets out a long, low groan.
Hot liquid shoots into you, leaving him blinded with pleasure. His hips go into auto as he pumps his seed into you, filling you up before he stops. Pulling out of you, a trail of liquids follows him out. Great, now you'll have to wash your sheets, but to be honest, that was far from your worries.
You hadn't even cum yet! You felt him all up, let him in and you don't even get to cum?? He lays next to you, panting. You watch as his breathing slows from hurried gasps. "Had fun?" You mumble, staring into his eyes.
"Yes, you felt amazing darling." He lifts himself up, before rolling to hover over you. You're trapped under his arms, smiling at what's about to happen. "Don't think I haven't felt your glares at me, I'll get you to cum too, dear~"  He smirks as he leans down, head before your entrence.
Is he gonna..? After he put it in?!
That's hot.
You grin as you felt his hands trailing your thighs before clutching onto them. You start to feel his breath on your clit, waiting in anticipation for what's to come. You squeal as you felt the first lick. His long tongue spreading along your whole slit. It's so wet and warm, mixing with his own cum. He doesn't seem to mind though, lapping it all up along with your juices.
You moan as he gets into it, taking your clit into his mouth as he sucks. Placing a hand on his head, you softly urge him into you further, making him suck harder. Biting your lip, you muffle your moans as he twirls your clit along his tongue.
You buck your hips into his mouth, your breasts bouncing along with your body. You place your other hand onto your tit, rubbing and squeezing your nipple. It seems to boost your arousal, suddenly getting more and more sensitive.
You jolt and tremble under his tongue, squealing as the pleasure overwhelms you. You squeeze your tit hard, pushing his head into you as you buck widely into his mouth. Crying out as you cum, you see white. When that fades, you're left dazed. Your hands move back beside your hips, sprawling out onto the bed as Peter holds his head up from his job well done.
Licking his lips, he smiles as he sees you passed out from pleasure. He cleans you up, putting yours and his own clothes back on before tucking you under the bedsheets. Just as the sun rose, he gets back into his usual position, beside you.
Your dad comes back after a week since the incident. Well, the 'first' one at least. "Y/n! I'm home!" You run downstairs to greet your dad, pulling him into a hug. "Welcome back dad." You smile.
"So, did you like the bear?" He asks as he sets his coat on the rack. You grin, nodding.
"He was great companionship!"

You take a deep breath as you approached the double doors in front of you. Your heart pounded against your rib cage. The silent hallways seemed to be echoing the thumps. Anyone in your position would be nervous too if they had to meet with the CEO of the Ackerman Industries. He was not one to enjoy much company nor request it. His gaze alone could intimidate the strongest of people and you are no different.
Fist resting on the wooden door in front of you, you hesitate, but close your eyes and knock anyway. You did not hear a response as you patiently wait. Instead, the door swings open to be met with the CEO himself, Levi Ackerman. Not a word was spoken, but he ushered you inside his huge office.
Scurrying, you slightly jump as you heard the huge door slam. You are in Levi’s office. Only businessmen and women are allowed in here. You feel not even worthy to be stepping on the same floor these successful people walk on. It could also be the fact that the office seemed spotless. For someone as busy as the CEO, he sure did know how to make a stack of papers seem neat in a stack.
“Sit.” Levi instructed as he strolled over to his desk chair and doing the said action. You looked around the room. Behind Levi is a wall of windows to overlook the city of New York. His desk his a beautiful dark brown that was so clean that you could see your reflection. Along with seeing your reflection, you can see —and feel— Levi starring at you. Meeting his silver orbs, you gulp.
“Do you know why I called you in here, Y/N?” Levi questioned, his tone remaining calm as always. Somehow, this intimidated you even more.
“No, sir, I don’t.” You admit. In all honesty, you are not sure why Levi called you into his office. He waited until almost everyone has gone home for the evening to set up this meeting. You have felt nauseous all day about it. Receiving an email from the CEO was enough to make anyone’s breath hitch, but to have a meeting — alone — with him is enough to make one soil themselves.
“I want to offer you a promotion,” Levi explained, his gaze hardening. “That is, if you want it?”
This is way better news than you expected. Levi has employees for a reason. He always calls the shots since it is his million dollar company, but why get his hands dirty when he can pay people to do it for him? Since no one is allowed in his office without special permission, this seemed a bit off.
“What does the job intel?”
“Well, my company is expanding even larger than anticipated this year. I need a personal assistant. Examining the work you have put in over the years, I decided you are cut out for the job. What do you say?”
You take a moment to contemplate his words. The offer is amazing and would definitely look great on your resume, but working so close to the CEO of the company is quite intimidating. Any bad habits you have developed better end swiftly or else it’s your job on the line. Levi is not afraid to terminate anyone not fit for the job.
“I’ll take it.” You smile, the words flowing out before you could even think any further.
“You start tomorrow. I expect you in my office 8am sharp. Do I make myself clear?”
“Yes, sir.”
“You’re dismissed.”
Standing up, you straighten out your black pencil skirt and head your way towards the door. Levi’s eyes did not once leave your figure. The way you naturally sway your hips as you walk and the way the skirt hugged your hips just right. His eyes are enjoying the desires most men have yet when you turned to look over your shoulder, his eyes where focused on his paperwork.
You went home that night, excited to tell your significant other about your promotion. He did not even blink an eye in your direction. Instead, he is pissed that you are home later than normal.
“Babe—“
“Where the hell have you been?” He hissed.
“I-I was called into the CEO’s office. I got a promotion!” You stammered, nervous under your boyfriend’s glare. He always made you feel small and his anger tends to send you over the edge. This is one of those many times.
“Why would he have you in there this late? Do you think I’m really that fucking stupid?” He scoffed, shaking his head.
“Babe, I’m being serious. I would never lie to you.” You argued.
“And how do I know that?” He countered. “How am I certain that you aren’t cheating on me? Or even hurt? Are your damn thumbs broken, Y/N? Can’t keep me updated ‘bout what’s going on? I was worried sick about you.”
You let out a heavy sigh. “I’m sorry, babe. I’ll do better.”
Your boyfriend walked over to you, embracing your body into a tight hug. You had so much more to say, but to prevent any further escalation of an argument, you apologized and kept your mouth shut.
The next morning arrived. You woke up extra early to have time to do your hair and makeup, dressed in your nicest attire, and wear the most expensive of jewelry. Since you are going to be around the CEO for now on, you cannot show up to work appearing sluggish. You gave yourself one last look in the mirror, your boyfriend leaning against the doorframe.
“Dressed quite nicely, huh?” He spoke, meeting your eyes through the mirror. You swallowed the lump that formed in your throat.
“I have to be.”
He stayed silent for a moment, his orbs tracing your figure. He hated when you showed confidence. It killed him inside and knowing that other men saw your beauty as well made his blood boil. He just has to ruin it.
“For the circus? Your makeup looks awful and your hair is tremendous.” He scoffed.
You bit your bottom lip. Tears welled in your eyes, but you prevented them from falling. You refuse to let him ruin your confidence. You are a strong woman and his insecurities shouldn’t be placed upon you. It is not your baggage to carry.
You meet his eyes again through the mirror. You feel your confidence crumble beneath you, but you remain strong. Turning around, you brush past him as you stroll out of the bathroom. You ignored him calling your name and demanding you to return. All he could do is watch as you left without even saying goodbye.
You arrived to the business earlier than expected. You have checked your hair and makeup more than once in the car review mirror. You are not necessarily even wanting Levi’s approval, — though he is quite handsome — you just want to look presentable. He is your boss, after all. He is not afraid to fire anyone on the spot. You are no exception.
Inhaling a sharp breath, you knock on Levi’s office door. You hear his approval to come inside and welcome yourself inside. You were not even receive a glance as you closed the door behind you. Levi’s gray orbs never left his monitor screen. You gulp nervously as you proceed towards his desk.
“I stopped to get some coffee. I brought you a tea,” you lay his cup on his desk, “just how you like it.”
He nods, still typing away. This did not help your anxiety at all. Is he regretting his decision making you his assistant? Are you disturbing him? Is he contemplating firing you? Your stomach turned at the thought.
The sound of the printer disturbed your nuisance thoughts. Levi grabbed the piece of paper and placed it on top of a neat stack. He stands up, finally looking at you.
“I have a meeting to attend to in an hour. I need these documents assorted in alphabetical order before then.”
Your eyes fall to the tall stack of papers. You definitely need more than an hour to get through them all. By Levi’s facial expression, you knew he was serious. Levi always looked serious.
“Yes, sir,” you grab the stack and meet his a gaze again, “I’ll get it done swiftly.”
“Good. I’m counting on you. Sit over there.” He orders, glancing at the couches and coffee table in the middle of his office. Maybe it is just your nerves, but his workspace seems bigger than remembered. This did not help your anxiety.
You began getting to work. You thought you are doing well on time, but time seemed to have passed you by. Levi is now towering over you, his unsatisfied silver orbs glaring down at you. You hesitate, but force yourself to meet them.
“Thought you said you would have this done?” Levi recalls.
“I-I’m really sorry, s-sir.” You stammered, expecting the worse.
“Sorry doesn’t sort the papers, Y/N.” He scolds, his silver eyes only being shown through slits.
“I—“
“We will discuss this after my meeting. Until then, I want my office spotless.” Levi continues, cutting you off. He begins walking towards the door and pauses once he reaches for the handle. “Oh and Y/N?”
You look up, meeting the CEO’s annoyed orbs. “Yes, sir?”
“You’re on strike one.” Levi warns. You did not even have a chance to ask questions as his office door slams shut behind him, leaving you alone to sulk in your thoughts.
You tidied up Levi’s office like he requested of you. Every paper went into its appropriate home, cushions are straightened out, rug is vacuumed, and you are currently dusting. This man is a clean freak by nature so there was not much to do. Still, your nerves were pulsating. This is only day one and you are not on Levi’s good side. You are becoming worrisome as your job is now potentially on the line.
The door opening made you jump. You can feel Levi’s silver orbs on you as you dust his bookshelf. He did not disturb you, though, as he proceeded towards his desk and went to work like nothing happened. Curiosity is begging you to speak, but you remain silent and complete your task.
You gather the cleaning supplies and place them back into the small closet. Returning on the guest side of Levi’s desk, he does not even look up from his monitor.
“I’m finished cleaning, sir.”
Levi did not say anything. Instead, he stood up and went to the window. His fingers grazed along the exterior which collected dust on the tips. He studied it for a moment. Your heart stopped as your breath hitched. You did not mean to forget the windows, but they look so clean already. They truly do not need much more cleaning.
“Seems like you missed a spot.” He remarks, turning to face you.
“I-I’m so sorry, sir. I thought—“
“Your cleaning is lamentable. Back to dusting. Now.” He demands, cleaning the dust off of his fingers with his handkerchief.
“Yes, sir.” You reply, gathering the cleaning supplies once again. You sprayed the windows and clean every inch of them until lunch time. Levi was sure to inspect your work before releasing you to go get something to eat.
“You’re dismissed.” He finally speaks. You are quick to collect your belongings leave his office. You stroll the long hallway to the elevator. You are finally alone with your thoughts and honestly, they were overwhelming. This job is very nerve racking and it’s only your first day. You are not making the best of impressions on your boss.
Digging in your purse, you check your cellphone. You have several missed calls and texts from your significant other. A pit in your stomach began to drown your appetite. You know this is going to cause a major fight between you two. A fight you did not want to participate in.
Reluctantly, you call your boyfriend back. He picks up on the second ring.
“Where the fuck have you been?” He hissed, sending chills down your spine. The elevator doors open and you head towards the cafeteria.
“Working. I can’t be on my phone while I’m—“
“So work is more important than me?” He interrupts.
“What? No. That’s not it at all.” You argued, picking up a bag of chips and a drink from the dispensers before checking out.
“Then answer my damn calls, Y/N!”
“I can’t when I’m at work!” You exclaimed. You hand the cashier money before mouthing the words ‘thank you.’ She gave you a worried look, but you disregarded it. This is not the first time that have heard a heated conversation between you and your boyfriend.
You go find an empty table to eat by yourself. The bickering between your boyfriend did not end on a good note as the other line went dead. You slammed your phone back into your purse and forced yourself to eat your chips. You did not even want them. Your relationship is falling through the cracks, you are failing at your job, and you are on the verge of losing what is left of your sanity.
Time really slipped away while you fumed in anger because you are now late to returning to Levi’s office. Tears prickled in your eyes. This is not good at all. Levi is going to be furious. Even possibly firing you.
You raced to his office. You did not even take the elevator as it will take far too long to get to his office. You are panting by the time you arrive and sweat droplets formed at the top of your forehead. Your hands began to shake as your hand rested on the handle. You need to go in there, but your body did not want to move. Your boyfriend is already pissed. You did not want to deal with your furious boss.
Sighing, you forced yourself to go inside. “I am so sorry.” You blurt out as you enter inside. Levi is giving you a disapproving look.
“Take a seat, Y/N. We need to have a talk.”
Following your boss’ orders, you sit in the chair parallel to his. You begin to tremble as you expect the worse. Levi’s glare does not help you feel any less uneasy either. His silver orbs are staring deep into your soul and making you feel small.
“You know you’re on strike three.” Levi begins. You gulp.
“I know, sir. I’m very sorry. I’ll accept any punishment you have in mind for me.” You sigh, trying to remain brave. Levi can see right through it, though. His gaze hardens and he makes his way around to your side of the desk. He folds his arms but does not remove his gaze from you once.
“What punishment do you think you deserve?” Levi ask, hoping you have the same answer in mind as him.
“I-I’m not sure. I’ll take anything. It’s what I deserve.” You admit, a flustered feeling coming across you. Levi studied your features, clicking his tongue.
“Bend over the desk.”
“What?” You whispered, not sure if you heard your boss correctly. He grabbed your chin, forcing you to look at him. His intimidating glare pierced through you.
“Talking to that lame ass boyfriend of yours must have you goin deaf. I said bend over my desk.” Levi instructs, letting go of your chin once you catch his drift. You do as your told, bending over his desk. You are uncertain what he is planning to do, but the removal of your skirt gave you a pretty good idea. Your cheeks felt hot as your bare ass is now exposed to Levi’s viewing.
“Lace panties, huh? You planned on being put in this position later?” Levi chuckles, his digits playing with the strap of your thong. You bit your bottom lip, not knowing what to say. A hard smack to your bare ass caused you to release a moan.
“I asked you a question. It’s only polite to answer, brat.”
“Yes. It was for my boyfriend.” You confess in embarrassment for more reasons than one.
“Oh, I see. Your toxic little relationship is in need of fixing, but the only thing you have to offer is your pretty little pussy.” Levi analyzes, rubbing his hand on your ass before delivering another slap. You wince in pain, but you mentally screamed for more. You wanted Levi to continue spanking you.
“That’s not it, sir.” You mumbled. His hand landed down on your sore ass once more while the other hand finds refuge in your hair. He pulls it, tightly, bending your head back.
“What really gets me is this mouth of yours. I suggest you use it to tell the truth before I stuff it.” Levi growls lowly in your ear, letting go of your hair to return behind you.
Another slap was delivered. Little melodies of moans escaped your lips that you attempted to conceal. Levi did not comment on it as he proceed with the punishment. Your cunt dripped with your slick. It is begging to be touched, fucked, anything Levi desires really.
A few slaps and a very red ass later, Levi’s digits founder their way inside your soaked cunt. “Someone enjoyed themselves, hm?” He teased, curling his fingers in you. You shuffle a bit, enjoying the sensation he is giving you. The removal of his fingers made you whine in a needy tone.
“I did, Levi. Please fuck me.” You cry, wanting his cock already. He chuckled at your begging, his hand rubbing your red ass then hitting it again.
“On your knees. Now.” Levi demands. You happily oblige before him. He pats your head in approval. “Good girl. You do know how to listen.”
Levi begins unbuckling his black belt. You are practically foaming at the mouth as he slides the leather out of each loop. He sets it on the desk before proceeding to unbuckle his pants, releasing his hard cock for you to pleasure. Your eyes light up at the sight. The tip of his erection is at your lips, ready for you to move forward. Your tongue teases his sensitive head before you let each inch slide in-and-out of your saliva filled mouth.
“Yeah, like that, baby.” Levi praises as you deep throat his length. You choke some, but continue taking all of his cock. Your tongue spends time playing with the veins in his cock while his head relaxes in your throat.
“The cock hungry slut having a hard time deep throating all my cock?” Levi mocks as you pull it out to catch your breath. A string of saliva connected your lips and his cock together as your lust filled orbs met his.
“Not a chance.” You grin, placing his dick back in your mouth. Levi groans in delight as you repeat the same patterns as before. His cock twitches inside your mouth as pre-cum leaks from the tip and down your throat. You gladly swallow it as his cock becomes overwhelmed, releasing his semen onto your tongue. Not a drop was spilled as you milked his cock for all he had to offer.
Pulling away, Levi praises you again. “Such a good little slut you are. Time we give your pussy some attention, huh?”
“Yes, please, sir.” You beg, eagerly. He taps his desk.
“Bend over my desk.” He commands. Following orders, you bend over his desk like before. You arched your back so your ass and pussy is more accessible for Levi. He spreads your legs out more so your weeping cunt is fully exposed. The cold air sent chills down your spine. Levi is already hard again as he stares at your pussy.
Aligning himself, the tip of his cock enters your dripping hole, sliding in perfectly. You moan as he thrust a rough rhythm. His hips slap against your ass and his hands cling onto your hips. You tightly hang onto his desk as he pick up the pace. You sob out pleas for more.
“Better quiet down. Don’t want your coworkers hearing me fuck you like the whore you are now do we?”
You did not even care. You wanted Levi and you wanted him bad. Groans and profanities filled the room from you two as Levi hits all the right spots. You babble incoherent sentences as you start to climax again on Levi’s girth. Your walls clenched on his size and released when he re-enters himself. This does not stop Levi, though, as he chases after his own high.
“Already cumming again, slut?” Levi teases as he is slowly losing himself inside you. He hit your ass again while his dick twitches. “Ask permission next time.”
“I’m sorry, sir.” You cry out, not wanting him to stop. He pulls on your hair again, bending down to whisper in your ear.
“I’m going to fill you up so much that you have to hide it from your boyfriend.”
“Please Levi.” You beg, not even caring anymore. You wanted Levi. You have wanted him for a long time and the feeling is mutual on his end. That is why he hired you, after all.
Levi’s cock could not withstand the pressure anymore. Releasing into the depths of your cunt, he huffs profanities as every drop enters inside of you. You gladly take it as you breathe heavily. He finally pulls out, leaving you a cum filled mess. Giving your ass a gentle tap so you will get up.
“You are dismissed for the day.” Levi grumbled as he situated himself and you did the same. You straightened out your outfit and fixed your hair. You will fix your makeup in the restroom. You proceeded to exit your boss’ office when he called out to you. “Oh, and Y/N?”
“Yes?” You purred, looking over your shoulder.
“Let your boyfriend know you’re my slut now.”

pairing: steve rogers x reader
warnings: decent angst, brief mention of a depressive episode, abandonment, somewhat unrealistic behavior
word count: 3.8k
author’s note:  i really hope that this lives up to your expectations but it is a little cheesy. i’d also like to warn that i have not interacted with a child in several years, so.. sorry. (there’s also a lot of exposition so double sorry if that’s not your thing!)
You’d never forget the moment Steve left to return the stones, with the promise to be back in only a matter of moments.
Maybe your definition of a matter of moments was different from his.
You seemed to be the only one without a clue of what Steve truly planned to do, with Bucky only telling you after the matter that Steve was leaving for the past and for Peggy, and probably not coming back.
After finding out, something deep within you broke. You could barely leave your bed for days, you struggled to eat, sleep, even drink water. Every task that used to seem like muscle memory, began to feel like it carried the weight of the world behind it. Every hobby that you once enjoyed becoming empty and bleak.
You constantly felt inadequate. How could you love someone so much, and be told you were loved so much while always being second to someone else?
The simple sentiment of it had left you feeling miserable, and sick to your stomach. Literally. Nearly every morning, and occasionally if you smelled something too strong, you found the contents of your stomach emptied.
You attempted to ignore it at first. Meshed with every other unpleasant symptom you were going through, you’d figured that it was just one more bullet point on the list of things that had been plaguing you. But when your friends insisted that you go check up with your doctor, you had a hard time saying no.
Once you received the results from your blood test, you were completely taken aback by the fact that you were pregnant. You couldn't believe that you hadn’t considered the possibility of pregnancy earlier.
Yet,  after a long and hard period of pondering, you managed to surprise yourself once again after you realized you wanted to keep it.
After all, that could be the only piece of Steve you had left.
----
You began to tell yourself that Steve was dead. That was somehow less painful than the idea that he left you for someone that he barely knew, yet had fallen so hard for nearly 70 years ago. You refused to let yourself fall for anyone else romantically, now that you were aware that anyone had the capacity to leave you at any time, no matter how deep you perceived your relationship to be.
You guarded your heart, and made sure to only let in those that you knew you could trust for a fact. For the remainder of your pregnancy, only your closest family members and friends stood by your side.
About 8 months later, you brought a small, but healthy infant into the world. From that moment on, you promised yourself to become the best version of yourself that you could be. No dwelling on the past, and no yearning for what could’ve been. Your only duty now was to provide the best life possible for your offspring.
So you did.
----
You stood in the kitchen, peeling an orange for your son before he bounded into the room. You turned and gave him a big grin, and he grinned back to you.
“Did you get dressed all by yourself?” You asked him excitedly, receiving a nod in return before he ran up to your leg, and hugged it.
“I did, Mommy!” He looked up at you with his soulful eyes, and you couldn’t help but to feel bombarded with emotion.
Even at the tender age of five, Grant seemed to become a bit more like his father every day. The shape of his eyes, the slope of his nose, the sound of his giggle. To the average onlooker, he came across as the same as any other child, but to you, your son was the splitting image of Steve.
“Good work, little man. Now go sit at the table so mommy can finish breakfast, okay?” He didn’t even bother confirming with you before more or less sprinting to the table. You couldn’t help but to ask yourself if your son had obtained all of that energy and speed from his father as well.
Breakfast was over almost as soon as it started, and before you knew it, you were warming up your car after you’d assisted Grant with brushing his teeth.
You were in an oddly nostalgic mood that day, playing music from a time period before you’d even imagined bringing another life into the world. You glanced up at the rearview mirror and watched your son happily bop his head to the beat. You thought in passing about how much of a gift he truly was.
After arriving at his school, you hopped out of the car and over to the furthest seat in the back, where he’d insisted on sitting that day.
“You ready, big guy?” You questioned while reaching out to grab him from the car seat.
“Born ready,” he agreed. You chuckled and shook your head fondly at that while getting him out of the car.
“Who taught you that?”
Grant shrugged, “I came up with it myself.”
“I’m sure. Can you hold my hand while we’re out please?” You reached out for him, and he gladly obliged.
You soon became distracted by a large man across the street, his built figure and light blonde hair making you recall the father of your child. You gave Grant’s hand a light squeeze and continued to approach the door, not being able to help yourself, and glancing over at the man one last time.
Except this time was different. Your eyes locked with the blonde man outside of the coffee shop across the street unexpectedly. Where you once thought casually to yourself that it looked like Steve, you now had confirmation that it was in fact the man who you’d fallen in love with, and found yourself pregnant by.
You audibly gasped, receiving a bit of a questioning look from your child. Your heart dropped as a metric ton of emotions hit you all at once, anger, sadness, confusion. Everything you told yourself you needed to repress, had suddenly come back to you all at once.
Even from a distance, you swore you could see his eyes flit from you to Grant, and the next thing you knew, he was approaching your direction. Looking for an easy out, and a distraction from your rather observant child, you quickly caused a misdirection.
“Grant, is that Stacey over on the playground? You should totally go show her that new version of tag that you were telling me about!”
Your son, ever the speedster, booked it towards the playground, and you let out a sigh of relief. Although, the relief didn’t last long, as just moments later, Steve was almost all the way up to you. As you turned to try to escape, you felt a hand on your arm.
“Y/N?” He asked, almost timidly.
You weren’t even sure what to say. In fact, you didn’t feel like you had control of your own body at this point. “Steve? I-“ You ran a hand through your hair and bit the inside of your lip. “You need to go.” The pain that was rushing through you was too much for you to bare, especially considering the man who caused the hurt had suddenly decided to reappear in your life after giving you a world of self doubt and abandonment issues.
Steve seemed hurt by your statement, but you weren’t sure how much longer you could stand to even look at his face. “Please, Y/N, let me explain,” he begged.
“No, Steve. You don’t get that luxury. You left me for someone else, and I guess you got to live a nice, long life with her. You don’t get to just show back up in my life when you get bored, okay? I can’t afford to play those types of games anymore. Now if you’d let me go-“ You attempted to get to your car, but Steve side stepped you.
“It wasn’t like that. You know it isn’t like that.”
“Just fucking leave! You have no idea what this has all been like for me. You had your opportunity to leave, and you gladly took it. Stay the fuck out of my life, and the hell away from my son.” You grabbed the handle of your car door and got in, reeling as you watched a dejected Steve walk away.
Your heart pounded in your chest as you rested your head against the steering wheel. You were feeling way too many emotions to pinpoint exactly how you felt, but you knew that this couldn’t be good.
——
You put a brave face on for your son that day, picking him up from school in a daze, and only half listening to whatever it was that he was telling you.
You felt bad for only being able to nod along to whatever he was saying, and did he just ask you if he could get a dog? Did you just say yes?
You felt like a stranger watching yourself from the outside in. The ghost of the person you’d developed into over the years watching the past version of yourself slip right back into your body, and take over your daily routine through the next few days of your life.
You had an obscene amount of anger that soon dissolved into a deep sadness, and that sadness shorty developed into a morbid curiosity.
You spent an unreasonable, and certainly unhealthy amount of time searching your old lover’s name on tabloid websites and social media, just to see if he’d given a statement on his whereabouts, or a statement about anything at all.
After about day three of your minor internet stalking, you’d had an epiphany while sitting in your office.
You still have Steve’s number saved on your phone.
That was, of course, if it hadn’t changed between now and the years that he’d been off living in the past.
Something about knowing that you were just one text away from him made your heart race with a mixture of nerves and interest. Just one impulsive decision, and you could change the whole trajectory of the rest of your life.
If you got back in contact with Steve, you might not ever be willing to leave him. You refused to make that mistake again.
Until you did.
After reading Grant his nightly bedtime story, then wrapping him tightly in his little bed, you’d decided to treat yourself to a glass of Chardonnay.
It’d been a weird past couple of days. Your time traveling ex had randomly appeared back into your life, your coworkers seemed to get on your nerves a little more every moment you were around them, and Grant had a temper tantrum in the grocery store that afternoon over a chocolate bar, which gained judging stares from customers, and may have made you feel the slightest bit inadequate.
At least that’s what you told yourself as you filled your glass again, because two glasses can’t hurt, and again, since I kinda deserve this extra one, don’t I? The next thing you knew, the bottle was empty, and you were texting Steve for the first time in years.
Y: Is this Steve?
You watched as three white dots hovered on your screen for a moment, disappeared, then came back once again.
S: Is this Y/N?
Y: Yes.
Y: We should tlak
Y: *talk
S: I agree.
Y: So lets
Y: talk
S: I don’t think this is a conversation for texts.
Y: Then call me???????????????????
S: We should talk in person.
Y: Im not gonna do that sober
S: You’re not sober?
Y: do you think id text u sober u big fuckni asshole
S: I guess you’re right
S: So are we gonna talk?
Y: no ur gonna meet me at b cup cafe tomorrow at 10
S: AM or PM?
Y: AM I’m off
S: Are you sure you want to do this?
Y: Say yes before i change my mind
S: I’ll see you there
Y: Bye babydaddy
S: ????
You promptly deleted the messages, tossed your phone somewhere on the sofa, and sunk into the seat. Even in your not-completely-sober state, you already felt the all too familiar sense regret. You dragged the blanket that hung over the top of the sofa over your exhausted body, and closed your eyes, wishing that this was somehow all a dream.
----
It was not all just a dream.
You woke up with dried drool on your chin, and a deep pit of bad feelings and regret in your chest. Of course, you ignored the bad feelings and got ready, business as usual. You successfully dropped Grant off at school with little complications, and found yourself perking up a bit more.
Yet, something still felt slightly off. You reached into the passenger seat for your phone, and as you looked down on it, saw the familiar notification of a calendar event.
10:00 AM b cup coff w Steeb
You groaned out loud at this. There was no obligation for you to go meet with him, but perhaps going and talking to Steve would bring you some sort of closure. Maybe then you could move on with your life, get with a nice guy who would mean it when he tells you he won't leave you, who loves Grant like he’s his own biological offspring, and to take care of the both of you through thick and thin.
You gladly daydreamed of this fantasy man while driving to the shop, but you couldn’t help but to see Steve’s face doing all of the aforementioned things. Before you even fell pregnant, that’s what you’d truly wanted with Steve. To be a family. To have your definition of home be with your people, rather than a place.
Entering the coffee shop, you briefly ordered your drink before looking around and find Steve sitting alone in a booth, mindlessly stirring around the liquid in his cup.
Timidly, you approached the booth, before setting your purse down and sitting across from him.
“You... you came?” He looked up to you with almost watery eyes.
“Of course I did,” you tried to hold yourself back from mentioning something about following through on your word. You wanted this to be as civil as possible. To build bridges rather than burn them.
“I just didn’t expect to see you in person again. And, you know, you were running a little late,” he added.
“Well, you try waking a five year old up and getting him ready for school every day,” you expelled a humorless chuckle to deflect from the slight agitation you were feeling.
“While you’re hungover?” Steve asked with a bit of a smirk, trying to lighten up the mood.
“While you’re hungover,” You confirmed, genuinely laughing now. It felt good, natural even. You’d kind of forgotten just how pleasant things used to be with Steve.
“Did you mean it last night?” he interrupted the laughter with a serious look.
“I honestly cannot remember anything I said last night. Elaborate, please?”
“That he’s mine. Your son.” He watched you silently nod, then began to speak again, “Wow, I just didn’t realize… How did that happen?” He looked down into his drink nervously.
“Well, it’s kind of hard to recall the exact details, but when a mommy and a daddy love each other very much...” You trailed off, and looked up as a barista called a butchered version of your name.
You were glad to have an excuse to get up and leave for a moment. Adrenaline was racing through your body, and you weren’t sure how much longer you could keep your composure before you erupted into tears, or had some sort of angry outburst.
Bringing your cup back to the booth, you sat down and took a sip of the scalding drink, “Where did we leave off?”
“I believe you were giving me the birds and the bees?”
“Right! Well, I think you know the rest. I’ll tell you more about Grant later. Right now, I want to know why you left and suddenly decided to come back.” You genuinely felt proud of your delivery. This was the moment you’d practiced in front of the mirror for years, and you didn’t even butcher it.
Steve shook his head and looked into his drink once again. It was so hard to look at you, let alone make eye contact with you, when he knew that he’d been the one to give you an ocean of grief. Yet, he was somewhat intrigued by hearing that his son’s name was his middle name.
“It’s kind of a long story,” Steve began.
“Good thing we have time,” you crossed your arms as you spoke.
“Well, waking up in a whole new time period isn’t exactly the easiest thing ever. You and me both know I missed it there, and it’s always been more than just nostalgia for me. I truly believed that I belonged back there.”
Of course, you had an idea of this, but hearing Steve confirm what you’d already thought made your insides twist.
“But I was so wrong. More than anything, I guess I was in love with a romanticized version of the past. Of Peggy.”
Hearing her name, especially from Steve, made you bristle. You wanted to interrupt him at this point, but it wouldn’t do you or him any good to become hostile while he explained himself.
“By the time I realized, it was too late. I figured you’d already moved on and found someone else to take care of you, and the world, this world, didn’t really need me anymore. But something possessed me to come back.”
“So you’re telling me that if you stopped being an idiot that just assumes things, we could’ve worked this out before? That you could’ve been an active participant in your son’s life?”
“I guess that’s a good way to interpret that story. I know I haven’t been in his life, but is there any way that I can still meet him?” Steve asked hopefully.
“Yeah, of course. He’s just like,” you sighed a bit to yourself. “He’s like a carbon copy of you. Especially his personality, but like, down to his mannerisms. I always struggled to understand how he could be so much like his dad, and never even had met him. You’ll love him.”
“Even if I didn't like him, I’d still love him.”
“How do you still manage to be such a cheeseball all the damn time? You think you’d be able to make it to dinner tonight?”
----
At exactly 6:30 on the dot, your doorbell rang, and before you even had the chance to think about opening it, Grant already was at the door, and opening it. You cringed on the inside, and made a mental note to have another conversation about stranger danger with him.
“Do I know you? Who are you?” you heard your child question from the other room as you set down the last of the plates in your dining room.
“I’m Steve, your mom’s friend... and…” Steve nearly spilled the beans to his son, but didn’t want to cause any more damage than he’d already done. “Her friend.”
“That’s so cool! I have friends too, like Nick, and Stacey, and,” you’d rushed up to the door and wiped your brow, internally hoping that you hadn’t just smudged the makeup you’d put on for the occasion.
“Hi, Steve, come on in,” You beckoned him in, and pulled Grant to the side, quietly scolding him before leading Steve into the dining room. “Grant! This is the last time I’m telling you about opening doors, okay?” He nodded obediently, then followed you and Steve.
“Can I sit next to your friend, Mommy?”
“Is that alright with you, Steve?”
“More than fine.”
Grant sat down next to him, and scooted a bit closer than necessary, while you sat across from the two of them.
“I have to in… enter a gate you now. Because Mommy never brings any over her friends over. I didn’t know she had any friends.”
You blushed a bit at this, at your son’s overdramatic behavior, and his admission that you’d become a bit of a loner.
“Go ahead, pal,” Steve chuckled heartily.
“When did you meet my mom?”
“Before you were even born.”
“Wow! That’s a long time. You’re really old. What’s your favorite dinosaur?”
“I’ve heard T-Rexes are pretty cool.”
“Have you met any?”
You nearly spat out your drink at this. If only your son had known.
“Nope, never. Have you?”
“Hmm, not yet. But they’re my favorite dino too. Now your ‘gating is over.”
You couldn’t help but to burst out into laughter at the bizarre exchange, but you were glad that your son and Steve were getting along so well.
The rest of dinner went pretty similarly, with Grant bantering with Steve, and Steve indulging him. You could tell that the relationship between the two of them was something that came both naturally and easily. You couldn’t help but to grin as Grant began to ramble about how cool Steve was, and how he swore he was better friends with Steve than you were.
“Mommy, isn’t Steve the best? You guys should totally get married so he can have dinner with us every day!” he swooned. “He even kinda looks like me, right?!”
That’s why you couldn’t help what came out of your mouth next.
“Grant, Steve is… He’s your dad,” you said quietly.
Grant nodded, then slurped up a noodle, “That’s why he’s so cool! He gets it from me, right Mom?”
“That sounds right to me,” You glanced up at Steve, and noticed his surprised expression. You mouthed something along the lines to ‘He’ll process it later,’ and waved a dismissive hand, before going in for another bite of food.
----
After putting Grant to bed, You and Steve stood at your kitchen sink, bumping elbows occasionally as the two of you silently worked together to wash and dry dishes.
The domesticity and familiarity of the action brought you an obscene amount of comfort. You remembered how you once believed that this is what your future would look like. Your thoughts were interrupted by Steve beginning to talk.
“Doesn’t this remind you of life after the first snap?” He asked, breaking the silence.
“Kind of. You’re not off the hook yet, by the way. You still have plenty of explaining and proving you’ve changed to do.” You set the last cup in the cupboard, then dried your hands off.
“I know, I know,” Steve began.
“We don’t even know if you’re ready for fatherhood. But right now, I kinda don’t care. I really just want you to kiss me.” You reached up to Steve’s cheek, and he pulled you in for a soft and chaste kiss.
You’d never felt more at home.

“Please, you deserve a few days to yourself, without the duties of a handmaiden, Cwen. After all you and the rest of the group have been through, it is the least I can do.”
Cwen found herself standing peering out the window of Aelfwynn’s chambers, watching the everyday commotion of the people going about their lives.  The woman walking with her basket slung on her hip and her other hand holding onto their child who desperately tried to race to something across the yard.  The soldier’s casually strolling on their rounds.  The smithey and alley where Sihtric had pulled her the night before.  Cwen’s eyes lingered on the small alley for several moments.  A longing began to stir low in her pelvis.
Cwen was broken from her thoughts when she heard Aethelflaed speak her name a bit louder.
“Cwen, I don’t think you've been listening.  Which just further justifies you taking a few days to yourself.  It is not only Aelfwynn who has been through an ordeal.  Please take some time,”
Aethelflaed was seated next to Aelfwynn’s bedside where the young girl was stirring. “I know, Lady Aethelflaed, but,”
“My daughter is safe and at home because of you, Cwen,” Aetheleflaed interrupted Cwen’s argument. “And we have Wyllath to help care for her as well.  She has missed Aelfwynn and caring for her while you all were at Saltwic. The children will be well looked after. I insist.”
Cwen sighed but felt her lips tug upward in a grin, “As you wish, my lady.  But you know I would have done anything in my power to protect Aelfwynn and would do it again if needed.”
“I know this, Cwen.  She and I are both blessed to have you.”
“Thank you, my lady.  I will take my leave then.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After allowing herself a few hours of sleep, Cwen’s feet could not help taking her out to the yard where she knew the children were playing.  It did not matter that she did not have handmaiden duties to fulfill this day.  She still wanted to check in on her little ones.
Aelfwynn and Aethelstan were both giggling and dashing behind trees and bushes.  Wyllath, Aelfwynn’s Mercian handmaiden was playing a lively game of hide and seek with the children.
Aethelstan was the first to notice Cwen watching them.  He immediately raced to her with his arms outstretched.
Aelfwynn came near after similarly enveloping Cwen’s waist in a tight embrace.
Chuckling at their youthful exuberance, Cwen asked, “and how are my little birds faring this morning?”
Both children clamoured to speak over one another.
Continuing to laugh at their antics, Cwen told them to speak one at a time.
Aelfwynn spoke first.
“I am doing much, much, much better, Cwen.  Wyllath has been chasing us and we keep surprising her.”
“Yes and then she squeals and we run away!  Would you like to play with us? Please!” Aethelstan pleaded.
Cwen smiled at them.  It was beautiful to see them carefree and happy, being children once more.
Wyllath had joined them, giving Cwen a slight hug while addressing her, “Cwen! It is so good to see you.  You look well.  Aelfwynn has told me all about your adventures.”
Cwen stopped her, “I would hardly call it adventures.  More like running and fighting for our lives,” she said albeit with a smile.
Aelfwynn looked up to Cwen and scrunched her nose, “But I think it was adventurous.  I was scared and sick, but there was still a lot of excitement. Remember playing in the river? And the huge tree we slept under?”
It amazed Cwen to see the resilience of youth.  Despite all of the trauma from their journey, Aelfwynn remembered the glimmers of happiness.
“You are right, I guess little bird. I think I am just remembering the more upsetting parts of our journey.  Some of which you would not remember.” Cwen replied while placing her hand on top of Aelfwynn’s hair.
Aelfwynn smiled as if she had won an argument.
“And you got to spend more time with Sihtric,” the young girl added while giggling with Aethelstan.
“Oh, run off and play more you two.” Cwen demanded, feeling her cheeks heat up.
Even the children have taken notice, she thought.
Wyllath lingered a moment longer, “Aelfwynn has mentioned this man several times.  It is clear by how she speaks of him, of all of your warrior companions really, that they took great care over you all.”
“Yes, they did.  They are good men.” Cwen replied, not missing the knowing smirk and glint in Wyllath’s eye.
“And maybe one in particular that took great care of you, Cwen? This Sihtric?” Wyllath could not help herself asking.  The curiosity of a girl a few years younger than Cwen could not be held at bay.
Feeling the heat continue to rise in her cheeks, Cwen replied, “Possibly, Wyllath.  But if you will excuse me, I need to speak with Eadith.”  Allowing no other confirmation or denial of Wyllath’s questions, Cwen slipped away from the young woman and headed towards her friend.
Eadith sat on a bench beneath a sprawling tree observing the children in their play.
“Good day, Eadith.  You look well.”
“As do you, Cwen.  I see a healthy blush to your cheeks.  But that may just be a response to young Wyllath’s questions about a certain Dane of our acquaintance,” Eadith replied with a laugh.
Cwen’s mouth dropped open in shock as Eadith continued,  “the wind carries.  I could hear her prodding.”
Sitting down with a huff, Cwen responded, “Wyllath has always been curious to know about the lives and loves of those around her.  She is a sweet woman, though still very young.  Kind and loving with Aelfwynn.  I usually enjoy speaking with her…” she trailed off watching Wyllath and the children run and laugh.
“But not now?” Eadith questioned.  “Or just not when it comes to Sihtric?”
When Cwen shifted her eyes to glance sideways at Eadith, she smirked but said nothing.
“Finan and I wondered where you and he disappeared to last night.  You weren’t gone long enough to have…”
But her words were cut off by Cwen shushing her and playfully pushing her shoulder into her friend.
“No, of course not. But…” Cwen took a deep breath, “you were right.  Anout your observations before. About his passion. I have never felt so…” Cwen trailed off, struggling to find the words.
“We all see the way he looks at you.  He is yours, Cwen.  And I suspect that you are his as well, if you will allow it.”
A gentle breeze wafted through the yard, bringing with it the laughter of the children. Cwen kept her eyes fixated on the scene in front of her but felt her brows pull into a frown.  Her fingers twisting and ringing each other in her lap.  No matter how strong her feelings for Sihtric, the idea of allowing herself to be intimate and vulnerable dredged up painful thoughts.
As if knowing where her friend's mind had drifted, Eadith reached over to take one of Cwen’s hands, stopping their worried fidgeting.
“Please do not let what my brother has taken from you, what he has done to you stop you from finding happiness.”
Cwen searched Eadith’s face and squeezed her hand in return offering her a slight nod and smile. “Thank you Eadith.  I have made promises to myself to not allow my history to get in the way of my future.  But making good on those promises will take time.” Cwen patted Eadith’s hand and continued, “Sihtric has said he will wait for me. So we are moving slowly.”
After a few moments of comfortable silence, Cwen continued with a knowing smile,  “As I suspect you and Finan may be as well.”
Eadith gasped and turned her face to meet Cwen’s own, but before she could speak their conversation was interrupted.
“Excuse me, ladies.”
“Lady Aethelflaed, good day,” Eadith spoke while standing to greet the Lady of Mercia.
“My Lady,” Cwen replied while standing to embrace her.
“I thought I told you to take the day to rest, Cwen?”
“You did, but I could not help coming to check on them for a short while.  I did rest some this morning.”
“I am glad.  In truth I came to speak with Eadith though.”
Aethelflaed turned her body to meet the other woman’s.
“I must thank you, Lady Eadith. I was wrong to doubt you. You delivered my message to Lord Uhtred as you said you would.”
“I was happy to be of assistance,” Eadith replied with an eager smile.
“And from what Cwen has told me, you cared for Aelfwynn on the road.  Helped to cool her fever.” Aethelflaed’s eyes gazed across the field at her daughter.
“She is a fearless child. It must be in her blood,” Eadith replied.
“My daughter is fond of you.”
“And I her.”
Cwen watched the exchange between the two women in cautious silence.  Having grown up with Aethelflaed, it was easier for Cwen to know when the woman was mulling over a serious matter rather than engaging in social niceties.
“Perhaps,” Eadith invoked, “I could be of use to her here. I could help Cwen and Wyllath with their handmaiden duties for Aelfwynn?”
Cwen’s eye darted to her lady to gauge her reaction to such a request.  Aethelflaed brought her eyes to meet Eadith and took several steps closer to speak and yet not be overheard, “I am curious.  Why did you reveal your brother as Aethelred’s murderer?”
Sighing, Eadith replied “Eardwulf may be my brother, but I knew what he did was wrong.” Cwen’s eyes found her friends as she continued, “My brother did many things that were wrong.  And I would like to try and correct his errors if I can.  I chose to be loyal to you, my lady.  And to Lord Uhtred because I believe in what you and he are doing.”
“I thank you.  But your loyalties remain to be seen.”
Cwen interjected, “My Lady Aethelflaed, I can vouch for Eadith and her loyalties,” But her words were cut short.
“I will judge that for myself.  But I thank you, nonetheless, for your aid in seeing my daughter safely returned to me.”
After Aethelflaed said farewell and returned indoors to complete her other duties, the ladies returned to the bench.
“I fear I will never win her trust. And I do not blame her for that.”
“That may be true for the lady. But if it is any consolation, you have earned my trust.  And my respect. And in equal measure, my friendship. You were the one who brought our attention to the healer in the forest. And the one who broached the difficult choice to use the wormwood. I still do not know and probably never will know if that is what saved her or if it was something else.”  Cwen reached out and clasped Eadith’s hand once more while giving the red haired woman a small smile.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Later that afternoon saw Cwen tagging along with the Coccham warriors as they drank themselves silly.  Stiorra was also in their midst enjoying spending time with her father’s oathmen and attempting to keep pace with them.
The group pushed through the doorway into the ale house with a boisterous Finan encouraging the usually stoic baby monk, who was protesting any more ale.
“Come on, Osferth.  Everyone knows you cure like with like.  We drink.” Finan admonished Osferth as they approached the bar. Cwen laughed wholeheartedly at the exchange between the men.
“If the man wishes to be done drinking, you will let him, Finan. I, for one, do not wish to be taking care of a sick baby monk.” Cwen chastised, receiving a raucous round of laughter from her friends.  The alcohol had made her lower her guard and allowed her to feel a lightheartedness that had been missing since their water fight by the stream.
“Well here then dear Cwen, you will drink his mug,” Finan all but shouted while trying to hand Cwen a mug.
“Oh no, I will take a break too,” she laughed.
“Alright and what is your excuse then?” Finan questioned exasperatedly.
“I do not know any of you well enough to let my guard down and be drunk around you,”  Cwen quipped, an impish smile gracing her face.
“Oh no, living on the run with us, traveling in the wilderness, running for our lives.  You are right, we barely know each other.” Finan’s retort was met with another round of laughter.
“Well, I do.” Stiorra glided in between Finan’s outstretched arm to grab the mug of ale.
“Oh no, you have had enough,” Finan countered.
The rest of his words were lost to Cwen.  Sihtric had casually slung his arm up to rest on her shoulders.  The Dane continued to hold a quiet and reserved manner in relation to his Irish brother, but the alcohol had definitely reduced some of his brooding nature to allow a more carefree demeanor.  The closeness of him captured Cwen’s focus like a candle in a dark room.  She felt him stagger slightly and held on to his torso to steady him.
“Careful, Sihtric.  You may be too much in your cups now too.” Cwen looked up to meet a soft and relaxed expression on his face.  Her smile reached all the way to her eyes as she watched him.
She felt Sihtric lean his lips towards her ear, “your smile is like the stars at night, my lady. I never tire of looking at them.”
Cwen felt a rush of heat settle low in her belly once more.
She placed a chaste kiss on the tip of his nose which prompted an equally large grin to grace Sihtric’s lips. He pulled her closer into him and kissed the top of her head before reaching behind her to tweak Osferth’s chin.
“Hey,” he got the warrior monk's attention, “stay awake.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Several rounds later they emerged from the ale house, blinking at the brightness of the day.
A passing soldier shoved Osferth who stumbled into an unassuming Cwen.
“Hey!” Sihtric hollered at the soldier while reaching out to steady her.
“I’m fine. Osferth?”
The young man just simply held up his hand as he hunched over gathering his breath. He could obviously not keep up with the amount of ale he had been served.
Glancing around, it was easy to notice the unusual movements of the Wessex soldiers.  All across the yard, soldiers were hurrying this way and that. The general attitude around seemed harried and bothered.
“If today were a day of celebration for the new lord of Mercia, I would fear that King Edward’s guards are seizing Mercia.” Finan mused as they all began shuffling along the street.
“They do not look like they are celebrating,” Sihtric pondered aloud.
“Something has changed. I must see Aethelflaed,” Cwen mused.
“We will see you to the hall safely, Cwen” Finan assured her.
The group began to quickly make their way towards the great hall, as Sihtric and Finan instinctively moved to walk on either side of Cwen.  Cwen felt a hand gently guiding her along her lower back and she glanced at Sihtric.
Any trace of the carefree, intoxicated man was wiped from his face.  In its place she saw that focus and concentration she had first identified with him all that time ago, in Saltwic.
His eyes scanned the surroundings constantly, while his hand remained a solid and guiding force on their way to find Aethelflaed and their lord.
In their haste to find their lord and lady, they rounded a corner and almost bumped into a guard who immediately brandished his sword at them.
Cwen found her body shielded by Sihtric as the men raised their hands.
“We meant nothing. Just didn’t see you there.” Finan spoke for all of them, quickly defusing the situation.
The guard sheathed his weapon and returned to his business while Sihtric, Cwen, Finan, and Osferth found another route to the great hall.
“Stiorra, find Eadith.  Make sure you two stay together and try to stay indoors somewhere. I will find you soon,” Cwen instructed, her voice taking on a harsh tone unusual for her.
Finan gave Stiorra a stern look and word when the young woman made to protest the demand.
Upon entering the great hall, it was clear that the lords of Mercia were unaware of the occupation that is occurring outside their doors.
Finan spoke quietly to Uhtred who informed Aethelflaed of her brother’s seizure of Aelesburg.
While the others stood on the steps of the hall discussing matters with Father Pyrlig, Cwen waited just inside the doors.
Eyes searching, Sihtric scanned the faces surrounding him when he realized Cwen was not among those outside.
When his eyes did find her, his feet took him to her side before his mind could give the command.
Cwen watched him approach her with eyes wide open, anxious.
“This is bad, isn’t it?” She questioned him as he took his place beside her, also watching the exchange between the figures on the steps.
“It is,” he replied. Simple and honest.
“I hope Stiorra listens and has found Eadith,” Cwen worried.
“I am sure they are well and safe.”
When Cwen did not reply, Sihtric shifted his gaze to see her staring but unseeing. Brow furrowed.
“What is it, lady?”
Broken from her thoughts, Cwen looked at her feet a moment before replying.
“It is times like these, when men are drunk on power, that women have cause to be afraid,” she breathed. Her words were so soft, Sihtric had to strain his ears to hear her.
“Is that why you stopped drinking with us? You feared we were drunk on power from our lord's new position?”
Sihtric’s words were not angry. Not accusing. But his voice was low and deep, pained.
“It was a jest meant for laughs and to take the attention away from Osferth,” Cwen stalled while fidgeting with her fingers again and not meeting Sihtric’s eyes.
After a breath, she felt the knuckles of Sihtric’s hand gently guide her chin up to meet his gaze.
“And many jests have foundations in truth,” he whispered.
“Yes,” Cwen breathed as her eyes began to glisten with unshed tears.
Sihtric did not pry. He did not ask her to go on. He waited for her to speak. And if she did not, he would understand.
All these things Cwen knew. She knew he valued her words and did not push her to be ready prematurely. He had proven this to her in the forest and again after kissing her in the alley.
“Eardwulf was fond of drinking. Especially when he felt the need to feel in control. To exert power. So that is the truth behind my words in the ale house.”
Sihtric stared deeply into Cwen’s eyes as his hand shifted from her chin to cup the nape of her neck. He placed a kiss on her temple before shifting his position as he and Cwen followed his lord and the others inside. It was a gesture that did not go unnoticed by Aethelflaed.
Once inside the hall again, Uhtred spoke hurried words to Finan and then turned to his other men.
“You two, with me.”
“Where to, Lord?” Osferth asked as he followed along behind Uhtred.
Knowing his lord meant them to likely put themselves at risk and definitely taking him from Cwen’s side, Sihtric clasped arms with Finan conveying unspoken meaning before he turned to Cwen.
Quickly, he brought his forehead to meet hers while grasping her hips tightly..
“If tensions rise, stay close by Finan.”
Cwen clasped her hands on either side of his neck and breathed him in for the briefest moment.
“Be safe.”
And he swept silently and quickly from the hall to catch up with his lord.
✧ reconciled stars. [mona]
warnings: suicide mention (but not really?? i've still tagged it under suicide just in case though), robbery mention, knife mention
notes: reminder - i have a specific tag system for tws so pls block what's necessary ("// [tw]"). this is not your usual x reader fic. u have been warned lol i was in the mood for smth eerie and a bit chaotic/spontaneous again. kinda, sorta similar vibes to my barbara one but... even worse haha. btw this is a placeholder. trying to get through a couple requests atm :] might make a part 2 for this, might not. we'll see
Tumblr media
it's late in the afternoon when you and your friend go out cycling. he brags, displaying the new tricks he'd learnt recently while you collapse onto freshly shaven grass. you prop your bike to relax on the side of a tree. your friend's bike is damaged and bruised with stains of mud tattooed onto its body. its owner is still gloating.
you had immersed yourself into a book to shut out his prideful words so you don't notice his absence until half an hour later. you sigh. reluctantly, you clutch your bicycle, placing the novel into the front basket adorned with flowers. you search for your friend but the town you live in is enormous. fortunately, after asking multiple strangers, you manage to find him in a quiet, desolate area of town.
as you approach him, he doesn't turn to face you and stays quiet. next to him, you can faintly see an unmoving, practically naked figure. you repeatedly ask who she is but no words leave his lips. you peek over his shoulder to see the dishevelled corpse for yourself. there is no blood.
curtains from the top floor of a building you're near fly in the wind—the windows had been opened wide. your friend dons a frightened expression but his blank, unwavering eyes deceive him almost as if he'd been expecting this.
realising the severity of the situation, you knock over the kickstand on your bike and dial the emergency number in a panic, informing them about the body. as you wait patiently, you shoo away your unreacting friend. the woman should at least have some privacy now that she's died.
slowly, you take another glimpse of the body. her jet black hair is spread out across the concrete and you speculate about the events that led up to this for her to be wearing little to no articles of clothing. for a second, you swear you see the woman take in a sharp breath but your attention shifts to the compass-esque charm attached to her choker necklace.
"you're alive aren't you?" you whisper.
no response.
with a shrug, you don't bother asking again and stare off into the distance. but the silence is stifling so you end up formulating a conversation.
"did you throw yourself out of the window?"
again, no response.
"why is the ambulance taking so long?" you wonder out loud. tired of standing up, you opt to take a seat next to the figure. while crossing your legs, you place a hand above her lips. no sign of breathing.
she must be a good actress, you conclude. to pass the time, you play chopsticks—a kids' finger game—by yourself. you find that neither winning nor losing really excites you.
"i didn't throw myself out of the window."
you blink rapidly before sneaking a glance at the source of the voice. her pale blue eyes are now open and, like your friend's, are equally as unwavering and devoid of emotion.
"why are the windows open then?" you lift your pointer finger in the direction of the fluttering curtains.
"oh... that's not my apartment" is the response you get. you crinkle your eyebrows together: you don't get it.
"then why are you lying on the ground?" you interrogate with childlike curiosity. it feels as if you're seeing stars, as if you've entered an unknown, surrealist universe. how is this happening on a sunday afternoon?
"your friend tried to rob me and he had a knife so i had to play dead," she states it in such a matter-of-fact way that it puzzles you. her entire existence is a mystery yet why do you have this lingering impression that she crash-landed into your world at just the right time? maybe you can safely assume that it was the universe's doing, that it was fate that brought you here together—like reconciled stars.
"but why would you play dead when you're being robbed?" you want to pinch yourself for wishing to intrude into her past, and perhaps even her future.
"i don't know. why is the ambulance taking so long?" you can't fault her question.
when the ambulance eventually does arrive, you take your eyes off the "deceased" to recount your story to the paramedics but the body is no longer present. confused, your hands clap your cheeks to check if you're just imagining things. a stinging pain sears through your face—you really aren't dreaming. you exchange dazed looks with the medical attendant.
it seems the corpse had done a runner.
Tumblr media
I never imagined myself visiting a small town like Sunnydale. I’ve lived in many places, but never California. The west coast isn’t exactly my style. For one, it’s hot. Two, the hippy-dippy happy-go-lucky attitude makes my eyes roll. Finally, Los Angeles reminds me of Celia, my cousin. Buffy, Celia, and I were inseparable as children. Dawn tried to tag-along in our make-believe games, but Buffy grew annoyed with her quickly. I haven’t been back in California in a decade for this very reason. Everything about California reminds me of a time when we were just kids. Before everything went to Hell in a hand basket.
Blasting Green Day in front of the hospital, I park my 1967 bright red Mustang. I take a minute to collect myself before barging in. Buffy and Dawn don’t exactly know I’m coming, but there’s something I have to warn them about, something so crucial that I drove here all the way from New York. The funny part will be explaining to Buffy that I know she’s the Slayer. To her knowledge, I’m just her ordinary cousin who she hasn’t seen since we were ten. In reality, I’m a psychic witch, have been since birth. Well, I’ve been psychic since the womb, the witchy part came later. Oh, and I can’t forget seeing the dead part, I always do. That little twist comes with the psychic part. Yeah, imagine a little ten-year-old me seeing my recently deceased cousin at her funeral… fun times. It explains the whole discomfort toward California. Low-key traumatized, but all good. Any who, I should probably stop the hesitation and just head inside.
As I stroll down the bitter cold hospital hall, I grip the leather straps of my backpack nervously.
“Hi Buffy,” I rehearse under my breath. “You probably don’t recognize me, I’m Y/N… your cousin. It’s great to see you- God I sound so stupid!”
I follow the signs on the wall toward the Neurology unit. Hospitals, cemeteries, funeral homes, old buildings, all great places to bump into ghosts. The things I do for family, boy do these guys owe me.
As I turn down yet another peach colored hall- geez this place is dated- my eyes land on a familiar blonde in the waiting room at the far end. Oh great, here we go. Buffy doesn’t notice me right away, being too occupied with doting on a sleeping Dawn resting her head on her lap. I take note of the blondie boy sat beside her. I’m guessing he’s with Buffy. Good for her, a strong seven out of ten. I would rate him higher, but he’s not my type, too All-American boy-next-door.
“Looks like I’m right on time,” I determine once I’m closer, thus making my presence known. Buffy peers up at me and her eyes widen steadily. Blondie next her looks between me and Buffy. Her surprised reaction makes him tense, I nearly assure him I’m not a threat.
“Y/N?” She gentle shakes Dawn to wake her as she rises from her seated position. “What are you doing here?”
“I heard about your mom… ” I explain vaguely. In truth, I saw it in a vision and a lot more beyond that, but I’ll just say my mom told me for now.
Buffy makes long strides and warmingly embraces me. I can sense the desperation in her touch. Her ora is all out of wack. I could see the mess her colors are from yards away. It seems like I did really arrive at the perfect time. Buffy needs me now more than ever.
“Y/N!” Dawn gasps behind us.
Buffy and I part, her eyes stare into mine pleadingly. Yeah, we really need to have a chat. Preferably somewhere we can be frank, truly frank, no bullshit like I’m spilling right now.
“Oh my God!” Dawn squeals, rushing down to greet me.  She squeezes me like a stress ball as she rambles on about how much she’s missed me. Then, Dawn starts to ask the tough questions as usually does. The girl has never quite had a filter. “Where have you been?”
“New York mainly,” I laugh.
“How come you’ve never come to see us before?” She rushes out as Buffy continues to stare at me in awe. It could be she thinks she’s dreaming this.
“Dawn, I-”
She cuts me off, “how’s aunt Lolly? Are you college? When did you get in?”
“Dawnie!” I laugh, “I will answer all your questions, promise. We’ll catch up! For now,” I look at Buffy. “I need to have a chat with your sister…”
The girl scoffs, rolling her eyes dramatically as she crosses her arms over her chest. “Of course, you’re for Buffy… everyone is always here for her. No ever visit me,” she grumbles.
“I’m here for you too,” I assure Dawn. “I just… it’s important I speak with Buffy right now. It’s about something-”
“I’m sorry, but who are you?” Blondie interrupts, his face covered with confusion.
“I’m Y/N,” I introduce myself. “I’m Buffy and Dawn’s cousin.”
“I’m Riley, the boyfriend,” he offers me his hand.
Wow, quite the introduction. I’m not much of a contact-person, but this seems like the perfect opportunity to gather information on G.I. Joe. As I shake his hand, I’m able to visualize memories and emotions from him. They come as flashes before my eyes. I hear his thoughts, see through his eyes, and feel what he’s felt. All I see Buffy, moments they’ve had. At first, pleasure and immense happiness consumes my head. Then, it’s replaced with doubt and self-deprecation. The obsession with Buffy is replaced with desperate longing. He feels her slipping.
My visual is cut-off when Riley removes his hand. I’m brought back to current moment, surrounded by chaos of the hospital.
Dawn frowns, curiosity etched across her features. “What’s so important that you had to come all the way? Does it have to do with Mom?”
“You came all the way from New York?” A male voice questions behind me.
What is this an interrogation? The sooner someone tells me where Buffy is the sooner I can head back home. Believe me, I don’t want to be here longer than I have to be. I glance over my shoulder, Willow and Xander stare at me in confusion. We’ve never met, but I know of them, the visions. I’ve been keeping tabs on Buffy and the family since… well… since Buffy became the Slayer.
“Yes,” I answer Xander directly. Turning back to Buffy, I not so discretely tell her it’s urgent. “Please, Buff, do you have minute? I know this isn’t exactly opportune but-”
“Of course,” she swallows hard. “We can uh… we can talk outside. There’s a courtyard just over there,” she gestures down the hall.
“I’m coming with,” Riley declares next to her.
“I’m sorry, is your name Buffy?” I sass, much to his frustration. “What am I going to do her? She’s my cousin. I’m only borrowing her for a second, then you can toss the leash back on her.”
“Y/N…” Buffy mutters for me to stop.
Riley narrows his eyes at me- oof, I’m real scared now! While I giggle at her boyfriend’s expense as the two of us start down the hall. I’ve missed Buffy, we used to be like two peas in-a-pod. Once all this drama I’ve seen in her future is over, perhaps we can be close again. I refuse to settle in Sunnydale though. At least we have phones and email.
Once outside, and we’re certain we’re alone, Buffy cuts to the chase. “Not that I’m not happy you’re here, Y/N, I am but, why are you here?” She hasn’t changed a bit.
I snicker, peering up at the sky as the sun it starting to set. Gosh, I hate the day. That sounds weird because what human hates daytime, but I do. I’m much more… in tune with myself when it’s night time. I thrive off the moonlight and stars. The sun and its rays are hot, too hot. I like the cold and darkness of night.
“Fine, let’s get right to it,” I smirk at my cousin wickedly. Reaching into my back pocket, I pull out my pack of cigarettes, feeling a bit anxious. “You mind?” I ask her, not really caring but figure I should check.
Timidly, she shakes her head. Her arms are securely crossed in front of her as she watches me take a smoke. “Those things will kill you,” she advices the cookie-cutter phrase.
“So can a car accident, yet we still drive,” I remark with sass. “What’s life without a little risk?” I wink.
Buffy shifts on her feet as her jaw clenches. Her aura is shifting again, Black to red, I’ve never seen someone change on a dime so fast. That’s change is funny, she’s either angry or afraid of me, maybe both. I can’t blame her, I’m not exactly a Care Bear. My black and red attire doesn’t scream comforting.
“Then again, you would know all about death, right Cuz?” I suggest subtly.
Her eyes lock with mine and I start to see the wheels turning her head. ‘Does she know? How could she?’ She’s likely thinking to herself. One touch and I could hear for certain what she’s thinking.
“What are you talking about?” She mumbles, barely meeting my eye.
I scoff, tossing my head back, why can’t this be easier? You know what, fine! Growing impatient, I hold my hand out, palm to the sky. “Light,” I verbalize and within seconds a bright orb floats above my palm.
Buffy stares at my magic stunned. Yeah, I was sort of expecting that kind of reaction.
“How… How…” She stutters.
“If you’d like a mini bolt of lighting I can do that too,” I offer. “I kind of prefer them, far more powerful!”
She doesn’t share in my excitement as she slowly steps closer still in awe. “You’re a witch?”
“Yep!” I smile, rather proud. “Have been for a while now, gotten pretty good at it too, not to brag or anything…”
“So…” Buffy continues to process everything. “You know about demons, vampires-”
I hum, “all of it. Including that you’re the Slayer, congrats by the way! Fun shit,” I compliment with a snicker.
“Not exactly how I’d describe it,” she mutters defeatedly, her eyes still on the orb.
Closing my fist, the orb disappears and I place my hand on Buffy’s shoulder. Her eyes meet mine solemnly.
“How long have you known?” She asks unfazed.
“Since forever,” I answer truthfully. “Sorry I never called or have come to help. I’ve sort of been cheering for ya from the sidelines. In all honesty, I’ve been away perfecting my magic with a coven. I’ve met some pretty interesting people along the way, all dazzled when they find out I’m related to the Slayer,” I gush.
She pays no mind to my compliments, still in a daze. “Does anyone know? Does your dad?”
I shake my head and sternly tell her, “he can never know! He thinks I’ve been away at school in Boston. In truth, I’ve been in New York with a coven.”
Buffy nods in understanding, though I know Joyce is aware of the supernatural world. My mom could never handle it. “Did you come all the way here to tell me that?”
Okay, here’s the hard part, the real hard part! I finish my cigarette, pondering the last relaxing bit of it before tossing it to the ground. “Okay, so here’s the deal,” I begin. “There’s a this big nasty bitch I’ve seen in my visions- I see visions by the way-” I add in passing, having forgotten it. Then, I remember I can’t forget the ghosties bit. “Anyway, you’ve already bumped into her, Glory. Yeah, she’s a real charmer from what I can see. I’m here to help because based on my visions, she’s kicking your asses.”
I leave out a crucial bit of information, a part of the visions I’m not sure I can share. One important thing about being a psychic is not changing fate. As much as I want to tell Buffy everything, I know I can’t, not if I don’t want to mess with the world.
“So, you’re here to help us stop Glory?” She clarifies.
“It gets real fucked at some points,” I tell her, hoping that doesn’t reveal too much.
“And I take it you know about Dawn…” she insinuates.
I nod my head slowly, “you mean that she’s The Key? Then yes, I do. She’s about as human as the Teletubbies, but of course I won’t mention that to her. Who all knows?”
“As of right now, me and Giles. He’s my Watcher,” she explains. “Did you already know that?” She’s catches on quickly.
“Kinda…” I answer hesitantly. “Sorry if that’s weird. I’ve tried not to pry with my visions. If it makes you feel better, I didn’t know who Riley was! He mustn’t have been around the last time I checked in!”
“When was the last time you… ya know… checked in?” She asks, unsure of how to phrase it.
“Well, I’ve been away with the coven. I joined them right after high school, so I suppose it was when you started at UC Sunnydale. I know all about Willow and Xander, they seem nice from what I’ve seen. Angel, his in-and-out appearance in my visions was confusing for a while until I realized he was doing that in real life too,” I laugh.
“So you saw all of the Spike drama and my mom finding out about me too?” She asks.
I frown, I saw Joyce learning about Buffy and that whole conversion, but I’ve never heard of a Spike. Based on my expression, Buffy predicts the answer.
“Spike is the biggest pain in my ass,” she groans. “He and Angel used to be all vampy together. Then, Angel gained a soul and Spike got worse from what I’ve gathered. He’s killed two Slayers, so we’re not exactly friends. We met when he tried to kill me. He’ll show up and leave again, kinda like Angel but less helpful. Except now, he’s acting all infatuated with me and sticking around.”
I snicker, “oof, so you have a psychotic vampire lusting after you? How did I miss this?!”
Buffy rolls her eyes, “believe me, it’s not fun.”
“Is he hot?” I inquire, always interested in a troubled bad-boy type.
She stares at me with narrowed eyes of disapproval and scoffs, “oh my God… never ask me that again.”
 “He must’ve showed up and gone between visions,” I determine. “I wasn’t able to check in much after you started at UC. Which reminds me, your roommate Kathy- not a fan of her,” I confess with a bit of humor.
“Turned out to be a demon,” Buffy explains, much to my surprise.
I gasp, “no way! Ugh, I saw you move-in, some interactions here and there, but that’s about it. I knew there was something up with her!”
Buffy laughs, actually smiling for the first time since our reunion. It feels great having someone know I’m a witch who isn’t a witch themselves. Being away in New York with the coven was great and utterly freeing. They were the first people who I showed my true self to. Now, finally, someone I care about knows the real me. I have so much more to share with her!
Buffy takes my hand gently, “I’m really glad you’re here. Lately… lately things have been more difficult than I could’ve ever imagined,” she confesses, swallowing back her tears and looks at the ground. “With Mom and protecting Dawn, I’m not sure I can do it all on my own. I mean, I have my friends, Giles, and Riley but…” she meets my gaze, tears puddling in her eyes. “I needed you, I just didn’t quite know it. I needed my other sister,” she weeps.
Immediately, I pull Buffy into my chest and hug her tightly. I should’ve come sooner. I should’ve felt Buffy’s pain. I guess I was so caught up with the coven and I forgot to check on her, so I missed the signs. I’m here now, that’s all that matters. Now, I can help. Seeing Buffy so upset makes my blood boil. Anyone who fucks with my family gets knocked off this planet, which means Glory has another coming at her in the form of a powerful witch.
Sahuldeem/Kaleesh Q&A #4
Here we go again! If your questions are featured here, I’ve included your username in the tags! And do note I’ve also included the spoiler tag. >_> (questions bold; answers italic)
Out of curiosity, what first got you interested in the Grievous backstory? Boy, I wish I had a COOL STORY, but it’s pretty much: General Grievous was randomly brought up in something I was watching and so I started searching around and came across clips of his 2003 incarnation—on two separate occasions over the course of multiple years. It took until the second time this happened for me to latch onto it, possibly because was around the same time as the combined hype for The Rise of Skywalker (which did not live up to it) and first season of The Mandalorian (which did). I very quickly went from “hey, this guy does have a cool design” to “what’s his story?” and the rest is history.
Please tell us so much about Kaleesh biology. How good is their hearing? Are their bones more or less flexible than humans? How much can the average Kaleesh bench-press? How much can Qymaen bench-press? What’s the closest living relative to the Kaleesh in the Kalee animal kingdom? What’s the purpose for the tusks, beyond aesthetics?
I’m in love with your worldbuilding and have about as many questions as Huk Qymaen has killed. Oh jeez, thanks! There are questions here that I HAVEN’T actually put much thought into, oh no! The best I can do without doing some improvisational worldbuilding is: their hearing is at least as good as a human’s; the average Kaleesh warrior can bench-press…uh, more than Sheelal-era Qymaen (sorry buddy); and yeah, tusks are pretty much all about display/aesthetics (they are secondary sex characteristics and...well, more along the lines of “eyy check these out” than “LET ME FIGHT YOU WITH MY FACE”).
Sometime I recommend transliterating Kaleesh words into Cyrillic and running them through Google Translate’s Russian text reader. It’s so satisfying. Долхлава. Какмусмэ. Урукишнугал. Колкправис. Рондеру лидж Куммар. Амаги дин Ку-лиана. Малга Шапра.
(No, I didn’t just spend all night doing this, why do you ask?) First of all, this was really fun to do. It’s still wild to hear these words and names said out loud! Usually sounds spot-on, too. Second and less relevant, I was FAR too proud of myself for being able to remember enough Cyrillic to be able to read all of the Kaleesh words up there. But of course context helps. :’D
You know what would be cool? A picture of the entire Gang together before ... you know. This is something I have indeed considered drawing! Someday… Maybe a candid group photo with some sort of salvaged Huk cam that Amagi and Jindra have just figured out how to make work? xD
So Ronderu’s what, three years older than Qymaen? Two? Three years, weighted closer to four than to two. (note to self: Kaleesh calendar)
I absolutely adore and admire the amount of detail and work that you've put into this fanfic, I really wish this was current canon! This has also gotten me interested in wanting to know more about the Kaleesh–Bitthævrian War and Grievous's grandmother who was in it, while also inspiring me to want to make my own headcanons about it. Thank you so much! It sure is MY personal canon, and I’m so glad there are some folks out there enjoying it and drawing inspiration from it, too. I can’t see myself having the energy anytime soon to flesh out more about the Kaleesh-Bitthævrian War and his great-elder-mother, but it certainly would be very cool to read a short story about it~ ;D (btw, according to the “The Story of General Grievous: Lord of War” article, it was his great-grandmother, not his grandmother, who fought in the Kaleesh-Bitthævrian War. I think Wookieepedia may have been updated incorrectly at some point!)
That is an interesting revelation in the new chapter! I was wondering, is Zigmash & the concept of 'Planet Name' Spice something you created, or are you building off of something from the EU? Ah, so Aza just refers to zigmash as “Kaleesh spice” for lack of a better descriptor; it’s clearly a drug and it’s from Kalee, but it makes it offworld so rarely there’s no general term for it. Zigmash itself is my invention; Kalee’s resources were not considered valuable to the Yam’rii, but that’s not to say they have to be entirely nonexistent! (in this case, there is DEFINITELY stronger, more desirable spice out there in the galaxy; as Aza herself notes, it’s more the scarcity and unusual source that makes it marketable).
Sooooo the kaleesh babies
They are adorable, mother instinct activated!
But then i realized something, read it somewhere else on the Internet that said Grievous had like 30 children after Ronderu's death, any specific thoughts on that I'm just curious👀
(Qymaen doesn't look that fertile but who knows) I mean. Well. Yeah. Give him time. (and…10 wives…) >_> ...Also Kaleesh reproduction ≠ human reproduction, wheee~ ........................You’ll learn more about all of this in Part Three.
What do Zaebar’s and Amagi’s kakmusmal look like? I do plan on drawing them sometime! (that reminds me, I still need to draw clan sigils! augh! so many plans, so little time!) Most kakmusmal look pretty similar, since they’re all carved to fit the general shape of Kaleesh faces, but they use different animal skulls (common to the region) for the base. Zaebar’s is likely from a pakozri, and Amagi’s is made from an amsi.
cat-ish!reader x satan
Tumblr media
a/n: sdkfj this goes faster than i wanted it to but oh wellllll
I rapped on Satan’s door lightly, tilting my head towards it to listen for a response. It was silent. His nose was likely buried in the pages of one of his countless books. I cracked a smile at the thought. “Satan?” I prompted, just loud enough for someone inside to hear. No response. A small frown marred my features. “…I’m coming in.” I warned, waiting a beat before pushing open the door.
It was empty. Disappointment twinged in my gut. Guess he’s not back yet. I shrugged, picking my way through his room. My gaze trailed across the titles, each more interesting than the last. I yearned to touch them but Satan had warned me that some books in his room were cursed.
At the end of the shelf, however, was a title I simply couldn’t ignore. My eyes sparkled. “No way…” I muttered, reaching forward to touch the book.
And, as you probably predicted, I was cursed.
I felt my body shrink and contort. I bit my lip, trying to keep calm. Satan’s going to kill me. Everything in his room grew ten times my size as I glanced around fearfully. I tried to cross my fingers but… it didn’t work?
I looked down at my hands and shrieked, hearing a loud meow come out instead. Paws??? I stumbled over to the mirror on all fours, my eyes wide.
My reflection stared back at me with mirrored horror, but not how I pictured it in my mind’s eye. “Wh-Why am I a cat?” I whispered, cringing at the mewls that came out instead.
This was bad. Really, really bad! I groaned, internally cursing myself for my curiosity. Curiosity killed the cat or… curiosity turned me into a cat? I shook my head. I had to fix this before Satan arrived.
“Oh my, hello there.” A smooth voice came from behind me. I whirled around to see Satan staring down at me fondly, a small smile teasing his lips. “How did you get in here?” Speak of the devil.
My eyes widened and I meowed helplessly. How do I let him know it’s me?? I wanted to rip my hair out.
He nodded understandingly. “Of course, I should’ve guessed.” My heart leaped for joy. He knew it was me? He leaned back to check the hallway and closed the door behind him. “No one needs to know you’re here. Be a dear and keep quiet, will you?” He asked, walking over and scooping me up easily.
I beeped indignantly and he chuckled, petting my head. “Don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen to you, kitten.”
I felt myself blush and went to cover my face before remembering he couldn’t see that. This is nice but how do I ask how long this thing’ll last?? Satan nuzzled my cheek with his sweetly and I almost died. AAAAAAAA YOU’RE GONNA KILL ME THIS IS TOO CUTE. He’s so comfy… how do I convince him to give me hugs in human form?
I gulped. Assuming I can change back.
He kissed my forehead and I melted further, accidentally purring. He chuckled. “Aww, aren’t you adorable?” He frowned. Was he just pretending to understand me?? Cruel fate. He really thinks I’m just some random cat, huh? “Though I am a bit worried…”
I meowed inquisitively.
He smiled down at me. “I’m worried about my…” his eyebrows furrowed for a second. “human. I told them to meet me in my room and they’re very late.” He pulled me closer, nuzzling me again. “They’re never late. Should I be worried?”
My heart warmed. He was worried about me? I didn’t think Satan even liked me all that much. I licked his ear. He laughed “Hey, that tickles!” He jerked away from me, smiling widely. I wish he smiled more, he’s so cute.
“Oh!” He blinked, placing his other hand on his chest lightly. “I bet you’re hungry, aren’t you?” He smiled. “Maybe Beel held up MC in the kitchen.” He reasoned and headed for the door with me tucked into his chest before stopping.
“Oh…” he glanced down at me sadly. “I can’t let anyone see you. You’ll have to stay here, I’m afraid.” He set me down on his bed gently and held a finger to his lips. “Be quiet, okay?” He winked conspiratorially.
He left, leaving me in his room.
I guess I’ll just have to wait this one out. I rested my chin on my paws, looking around curiously. Everything was so different from this angle. I inhaled deeply, Satan’s scent reaching my nose. I sighed, resting my eyes. It smelled so nice here, like old books and earthy tea. His bed was comfy…
“I’m back.” Satan’s somber voice startled me awake. A look of concern marred his features. “Oh no, did I wake you baby?” I could get used to the pet names. I meowed at him.
He nodded and dipped onto the bed in front of me. His hand scratched behind my ear gently. “I brought you food!” He held out a can of cat food and I held in my vomit at the smell.
Satan smiled encouragingly, waving it under my nose more in an attempt to entice me. “Come now, I’m sure you’re hungry.”
I meowed at him and backed away, hopping onto his pillow and settling down there. He sighed, placing the can on a shelf. “Not hungry?”
He bit his lip, laying down on the pillow next to me. I crawled onto his chest, looking into his eyes. So pretty… I leaned forward and touched his nose with mine. He smiled. “Aw, I can’t stay sad around you, can I?”
He sighed, petting my head. “I didn’t find MC in the kitchen. Beel doesn’t know where they are, either. I’m really worried, they would’ve at least contacted me at this point.”
I meowed softly and he nodded. “I know, it’s none of my business what they spend their time doing. They don’t owe me anything.” His face fell. “Why can’t I get that through my head?”
My heart ached for him. He looked so sad that I hadn’t contacted him. I didn’t know I meant this much to him. As much as I hate being a cat… this has been enlightening. He blushed, covering his face with his arm. “I was going to ask them to take a walk with me tonight. They’re a sucker for moonlight…” his lips spread into a sweet smile. “I barely look at the moon on those walks.”
My eyes widened. And here I thought I was just tagging along… am I really so unobservant? I mewled, nuzzling his cheek with mine. Satan moved his arm away from his face, staring down at me through lidded eyes. I fought my blush again, though it didn’t matter. He yawned. “Maybe we’ll see them in the morning. I’ll introduce you. I think you’d like them.” He gently plucked me off of his chest and placed me on the bed as he got up. “Can’t sleep in this.”
His hands reached for the back of his shirt, pulling it over his head. I watched shamelessly, taking him in. No! Bad MC, avert your eyes! I blinked and buried my head into the blankets.
I felt the bed dip as he returned, pulling the blankets up to get in. He grinned at my huddled mass under the blanket. “Come here.” He cooed and I snuggled up into his side.
We dozed off shortly thereafter.
~
“M-MC???” A startled voice choked out, waking me up.
I yawned and moved to stretch but was forcefully pushed down on to the bed. “Oof!” I blinked away the sleep to see a bright red Satan on top of me, pinning down my arms.
He looked away from me. “Wh-What are you doing in my bed and wh…” he shook his head. “Why are you naked??”
I frowned, looking down at myself. Sure enough, the blanket was the only thing covering me. “Oh.” I smiled up at him. “I touched one of your cursed books and turned into a cat.”
His eyes widened in horror, “Then…” the realization sunk in. He bit his lip. “How much do you remember?”
I grinned impishly. “All of it.”
His blush darkened, if possible. “I was afraid of that. I apologize, hearing everything I said must’ve been surreal. I should’ve noticed you weren’t an actual cat-“
I cut him off, grabbing a fistful of his shirt and yanking him down, capturing his lips with my own. I felt his muscles tense for a beat, then relax as his lips began to move against mine. I weaved my fingers into his hair and he sighed into my mouth happily.
Satan broke away from me and I frowned at the loss, staring up at him in confusion. His sweet smile from last night returned full-force. “That was definitely best-case scenario.”
I giggled. “All because you talk to cats.”
Pink dusted across his cheeks. “You have a lot of nerve, human.” He stared down at me adoringly. I smiled and he cleared his throat. “It’s embarrassing when you stare at me like that…”
“Aw, well if you’d prefer my eyes to be closed~” I teased, pushing him and myself up from the bed. His eyes widened and he jumped to cover me with the blankets. I rolled my eyes and pressed into him, pulling his face down to kiss him again. He hummed approvingly, his hands finding my waist. I shivered at the contact. His hands were warm, much warmer than the rest of his cold room. Satan grazed his teeth across my lip, flicking his tongue out a bit. I responded with fervor, pushing to get closer to him and his warmth.
A low growl crept up his throat. “You’re not close enough.” He whispered against my lips. His hands travelled down my sides to my legs, hoisting them up and around his waist. I gasped in surprise and he practically purred. “Better.” He mumbled.
~
Lucifer frowned, watching Satan and I walk into the dining room together. He cleared his throat. “MC, you didn’t show up to dinner last night.”
“Meow.” I smiled, taking a seat at the table. Satan choked on air behind me.
a/n: uh think of a title for the book that cursed you in the notes jdfs. gotta be pretty intriguing for you to ignore satan’s warnings
NOTE : THIS IS A SPIES IN DISGUISE AU, WALTER IS THE CRIMINAL MASTER MIND AND KILLIAN IS THE SCIENTIST
THIS DEFINITELY CONTAINS SEXY TIMES
Not well written though probably and I tend to rarely go through my work to look for mistakes.
Despite Killian being kidnapped and handcuffed EVERY THING IS CONSENSUAL... Tristan is crazy obsessed with Beckett so he's very happy.
Now you've had your warning you read this instead of scrolling past that's on you, lemon is a tag used for stuff like this but if you feel like there are other tags I need to use please do tell me!)
Tumblr media
The bag was stuffy, head phones covered his ears, they'd knocked off his glasses in their struggle to capture him, he could barely see without them.
Now his hands were cuffed behind his back, a hand on each upper arm, honestly Tristan was terrified, the car ride seemed a life time, though realistically it was only ten to fifteen minutes long.
He'd pleaded saying he was a no body just a scientist the agency threw in the corner and that no one ever took him seriously.
He was hunched, trying to tuck his head into his shoulders, so this was how he was going to die.
He felt every bump of the car and turn, trying to map out where he was going but he didn't recognise this route, usually he rode every where on his bicycle, deep blue with a silver bell and a basket on the front to pick up dinner on his way home...
Home where he could research the Criminal Master mind Walter Beckett ...to a near unhealthy obsession...alright it was unhealthy when you imagined him pushing you back against the table parting your thighs, fucking you and making you look at him by holding your head with his clawed hand....
Fuck was he going to die thinking about Walter, a man who didn't even known he existed...well he had no one, nothing living to care about...he might as well think of someone who made him happy even if only in his fantasies before he died right.
He was pulled from the car where he tried kicking at his handlers, Tristan didn't get very far though as one of them punch his gut winding him, he was wheezing as he was taken out of the vehicle.
"You know he's gonna kill you for that right."
The first handler smacked the second on the back of the head
"Only if this limp dick tells him, he's too much of pussy to squeal."
"I wouldn't be so sure of that, but Im not covering your ass."
He was dragged through the facility, Tristan refused to make it easy to carry him and went limp.
Both handlers groaned, fuck, great a difficult one, well the first wasn't going to risk hurting him into compliance and the second knew he was on thin ice, if that punch had bruised him their boss was literally going to kill him.
Other workers watched as they went by, another two carried Tristans legs who now tried to struggle again, what the hell was going on!
He was sat in a chair with ease, after all their boss was right there, the workers didn't dare handle him as if he were anything less than a handle with care package with fragile taped all over him.
"Well are you going to take that off him, it's a little hard for dramatic entrances when he can't even see me."
"Yes sir, right away."
The bag was pulled off swiftly with the headphones clattering to the floor.
Tristan squinted, everyone looked like blurs, he could see faces only as different coloured splodges, his hair sticking up in different angles, shoulders aching now, he still sat up right, heart racing
"Where are his glasses?"
Tristan turned to where he heard the man speak, it was cold, commanded respect...familiar but no it couldn't be...
"Sebastian, where are his glasses?"
"I ah, James you see knocked them off in the struggle and-"
A metal arm, supporting four claw digits at it's end clasped his face
"What did I tell you about people with glasses, remove them, keep them what Sebastian."
He had brought the man to his knees holding so tightly Sebastian could feel his skull on the verge of cracking, he let out a cry as he managed to finish the sentence
"Safe!"
"Oh good you can listen to orders, now James..."
He'd let go of Sebastian and beckoned over his other crew member, Tristan knew this voice but it couldn't be him, he must still be disorientated.
"James, what have I told you about harming what belongs to me."
He said softly, curling his his claws around James's tie, Sebastian stepped back, well he had warned his coworker and with a snap and flick of his wrist the tie had been pulled so hard and tight the man's neck had been snapped.
"He had trouble following orders, first few times is understandable, you're settling into this new life but after five years it should not be that hard."
Tristan wished he'd had his glasses because if this was Walter Beckett he would have just witnessed one of Becketts trade mark moves and yes maybe would have gushed like a fan boy.
He was going to pretend it was him until he could see at the least and imagine he was kidnapped by Thee Walter Beckett.
He listened to him calling in clean up crew and for someone to bring up the glasses, his shape coming in closer and closer, it had to be him, the silver blurred limb was on his left, the hair colour.
"Awww poor baby..."
The younger man cooed.
Tristan tried very hard not to lean into his touch when his hair was stroke back and felt the Claws against his scalp
"Don't worry now, my useless men have been dealt with, come on now look up at me."
He didn't exactly give Tristan a choice as he place a claw under his chin
"See, now Mr Mcford I know I have my fans, the ones who do their fanart, their fictions whatever you will, I keep an eye on anyone who searches my name out of curiosity..."
He tapped his nose
"You Mcford like clock work will watch videos that have only the briefest flash of me, pour over articles, fictions..."
He smirked tracing one long metal claw along his jaw
"Reader x Walter Beckett, but you got tired of them, skinny little me always being pinned, submissive, no, no you wrote your own, named yourself Killian, nice name by the way, where I owned you, laid you back and made sure you knew who you belonged to."
Tristan was red, he was so fucking red and wanted the bag back on his head
"But Im not here to embarrass you, you're actually a good writer and it was the first one I ever enjoyed myself to."
Tristan wanted to implode, die right there, hearing Beckett had fucking masturbated to his little story, he let out a whine then hung his head, trying to hide how much that effected him.
The crew came up and pulled the body from the room and handed Walter the item he'd requested
"Face me now, unless you prefer being half blind."
Beckett held his face with his human hand, finger tip tracing a cheek bone, my they were sharp weren't they, what a pretty scientist.
Placing the glasses on, small lights flickered then settled.
"They read your eyes and the lenses adjust to the prescription you need."
Walter explained now casually sitting on Mcford's lap, an arm around the back of his neck.
"I'll cut to the chase, as I said we check everyone who even so much as types my name out of curiosity and when I found out you were working for the agency that has reaaaally caused a lot of problems in my life I researched you."
Tristan was staring, no way did Walter not feel the protruding problem down below, you would literally have to be either dead or have no feeling in your body to not notice that, he was still, he listened to him, was he having a wet dream, it had to be a dream right?
"Besides my uh Internet history...what...what did you find out."
"Oh you know, that you're an under appreciated scientist who came up with designs so dangerous they had to lock them away...and I may have slightly stolen them, now while I could personally and am the only qualified person here to build such delicious technology...."
He slipped his hand under Tristans lab coat, slowly rubbing his palm against his chest and smirking at the shakey breath and the way Tristan adjusted his hips, oh he could certainly feel that reaction
"I have an evil empire to run...I need you Tristan, I want you..."
He leaned in closer, lips nearly at his.
Mcford whined, fuck he was close Walter hadn't even done anything but the raised brow and smirk on Becketts face told him he could feel him twitch and gasped as the hand that'd been on his chest traveled down a finger tip teasing the head of his cock through his pants.
"How do you feel about working for me Tristan, build your machines and what ever else comes to mind, I need someone as competent as myself..."
Walter kneaded him slowly, to the point the slow pace was painful, his mouth was open and another ragged breath left him, this had to be a wet dream a really, vivid wet dream, please don't let his alarm go off...he pressed against his neck, forehead on his shoulder as Walter stroked the back of his neck with metal Claws, cool against his flesh.
Even if he was awake, of course his answer was yes....
"We could even build something together, I'm sure you'd just love to see me work..."
Beckett leered.
Walter was so warm, he was here, touching him, fucking touching him, dragging it out and making him nearly beg and he loved it.
"Yes..."
Tristan panted, lifting his hips trying to get more friction, he still had his handcuffs on he couldn't reach out and touch the man he wanted, his wrists struggling instinctively to part.
"Look at me and say it, Tristan."
That purr went through Mcford's entire being, lifting his head whimpering, biting his lip, he loved the tease, feeling so close to the edge and having Walter deny him...he begged to some god out there that Walter would finish it at least, it was so intense, he knew his clothes were stained with precum, Beckett seemed to enjoy reminding him he knew it was there by playfully tapping a finger over the tip of his cock where the damp patch was.
"Yes...I'll work for you....I have mmmphn wanted to since I ahh first saw you... Oh my god..."
Walter smiled, watching him, listening to him, oh how blue his eyes looked when his cheeks were this flushed, absolutely gorgeous.
"Oh Tristan there is no god, only me and my loving hands."
He returned, unbuckling Tristans belt and reaching in, blushing a little himself as he watched Tristans eyes nearly roll up, his head falling forward.
Tristan watched as Walter finished him off how desperately he wanted to hold onto him, press fingers into his back, he couldn't remember the last time he came this fucking hard or if he'd ever...he was speechless...breathless and fuck he'd made a mess of them both.
He was putty in Walters hands, feeling a claw lift his head again, moaning softly still, his body was tingling all over
"Welcome to the team Killian."
Beckett said sweetly before leaning in and kissing him.
What Grows in Winter
Rating: T
Length: ~4500 words
Pairing: Felix Hugo Fraldarius / Byleth Eisner
Tags: Mistletoe, Hand Warming, Kissing, Holiday Tropes, Fluff, Pining.
Summary: Fodlan’s coldest winter and a gruesome war greet Byleth upon waking from her five-year slumber, and while an improvised winter celebration is in the works, she’s more drawn to a familiar stability. Surely, whatever grows in the harshest seasons can survive anything.
This is my Felileth Secret Santa gift for Rex a.k.a Smoke n’ Milk! Check out their art twitter if you’re craving some Felileth. I hope you all enjoy, and have a very Merry Christmas!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Snow made sparring more challenging. Byleth already knew this, but to do so with Felix only a month after she’d awoken from her five-year slumber was much harder than she’d imagined.
It didn’t help that the weather had been relentless that year, and missing Red Wolf Moon meant missing wolf-hunting season, which would’ve supplied their soldiers and allies with the pelts and meat they needed to survive the cold. The guilt tugged at her mind at all times. So many from both the church and the Kingdom had quickly joined the cause with her name, yet she had nothing to show for it besides barely fending off an Empire assault.
Perhaps sparring Felix grew difficult because he’d grown stronger, or that Byleth had just grown weaker. No matter the excuse, her chill-stiffened muscles struggled to stay mobile against her opponent’s relentless strength.
“You’re slow.” He lunged swiftly, barely giving her time to parry his sword to the side and force an opening. His body pivoted with the movement, however, and their swords clashed before she could move forward on the offensive.
“It’s called a warm-up, Felix,” she panted.
“Maybe you’ll finally buy a coat, or make actual use of the one you already have,” he smirked and sliced at her sleeves that dangled unused from her shoulders. “Or admit that I’ve finally surpassed you.”
“Nah,” she said. “Match isn’t over, Fraldarius, and I doubt you’d accept victory that easily.”
“You’re right,” he chuckled before assuming a ready stance and waiting for her to move first.
Byleth almost accepted his bait out of spite until she felt something tickle her hair. Old habits kicked in, and she spun towards their intruder, which in turn startled Felix. Her sword swung for whatever had snuck up on them, but met only empty air, then a small fishing line. The culprit, a small tuft of twigs, leaves, and red berries, fell to her feet.
“Woah, woah! Easy!” Sylvain yelled from above. The paladin had somehow managed to climb to the roof with a fishing pole without alerting either Felix or Byleth to his presence. Maybe Byleth really had lost her touch.
“Sylvain, what the hell is wrong with you?!” Felix shouted.
With that, Sylvain leapt from the roof, dusted himself off, and held his hands up in defeat. “I wasn’t trying to sneak up on you! You two must’ve been really distracted.” He eyed the severed end of his fishing line. “How did you cut this with a wooden sword?”
“What do you want?” Felix asked. “We’re busy, if you haven’t noticed.”
Byleth’s eyes drifted to the small green shrub lying in the snow. “And what is that?” she added.
“Oh, this?” Sylvain smirked and picked it up, twirling it in his fingers. “Glad you asked. Annette and Merci tasked me with getting everyone into a more... festive ...spirit.”
Right, the mages’ mission to lift everyone’s spirits with an improvised winter celebration. The Lions had reunited, as had many of their allies, but Dimitri was far from a kingly state, their supplies ran short, and the monastery’s defenses were unprepared for another Empire incursion. The millenium-old walls had been worse for wear after five years of war and neglect, but their fortress, like their resolve to carry on, held together.
Mercedes and Annette had immediately called for a celebration of Byleth’s return, though she argued they had many more reasons to celebrate. The Millenium Festival marked their reunion, but the decorations, the music, the feasts, and the bright firelight that contrasted with the white snow had been absent. The two women were making up for that now, and most of the Lions had agreed to help.
“Sylvain, you know you’re supposed to hang up decorations, not flail them around on a fishing rod, right?”
“Ah, but this isn’t a decoration, my good friend.” He tied the bundle to the freshly-cut end of the fishing line and wiggled it between Felix and Byleth. “This, here, is a mistletoe.”
Byleth didn’t know what any of that meant, but if Felix’s reaction was any indication, it wasn’t any good. His annoyed narrow eyes flew open, and his cheeks that surely must have been freezing in the falling snow flushed red.
“See? Felix knows! I knew you’d-”
“Get lost, Sylvain.” Felix ducked away from the plant as if it was a deadly poison.
“Not until you two follow the tradition.” Sylvain’s unyielding grin told Byleth that he wasn’t leaving anytime soon. Few were immune to Felix’s sudden outbursts, and Sylvain was likely the most seasoned in navigating the swordsman’s temper.
Despite the dread hanging in the air, Byleth was curious. “What tradition?”
Felix spun around and pointed his glove in Sylvain’s face. “Don’t tell her!” He didn’t address Byleth directly, but nodded to her. “Trust me, you’re better off not knowing our stupid traditions.”
“Great idea, Felix, why don’t you tell her!” Sylvain nudged his friend as his voice nearly sang. Their moods couldn’t be more opposite, but Byleth knew whose taste aligned more with her own.
Felix grunted. “Let’s just get back to training.”
In their brief repose, Byleth’s muscles had only stiffened by remaining stagnant. And she couldn’t deny her curiosity. “I’m not participating in any weird Faerghus traditions, but I should still know what they are.”
Sylvain’s smile grew all the way to his eyes while Felix scoffed with a look of betrayal. Maybe he wished that she’d push Sylvain to drop it. After a few tense moments, however, he yielded and turned back toward her. Even so, he kept his face turned away from her.
“When two people are caught under a mistletoe, the dumb tradition says they have to...kiss.”
“Oh,” was all Byleth could say in response. If Sylvain was watching her for a strong reaction, he wouldn’t get one. But that was only because her insides were imploding.
Sylvain wanted him to kiss her? Had he chosen them on purpose, or had it just been coincidence?
Did she... want to kiss Felix?
The man didn’t give her time to ponder the sensation any further. “But like I said, it’s dumb, it’s cold, and we’re busy. So get lost, Sylvain.”
“Oh, you’re busy . I see how it is.” He reeled in the mistletoe and swung it over his shoulder. “You two are the first to refuse, you know. It doesn’t have to mean anything. It’s just a sign. A mistletoe is an omen of peace and protection from death. They grow even in the harshest winter. The fact that some began sprouting on the shrubs throughout the monastery is good, no?”
Felix’s face flared red, either with seething anger or pure embarrassment. “Then go find more willing participants and tell Edelgard the war’s over because of some weeds. Leave us.”
Sylvain threw his hands up in defeat. “All right, all right, I surrender. Consent is important, anyways.” Before he pushed the training ground doors open, however, he turned and gave them one last of his dazzling smiles. “You never refused, though. All I heard were excuses.” And with that, he shrugged and moved through the doors.
“Don’t waste that fishing line, Sylvain, I’ll need it later!” Byleth shouted before the doors slammed shut. An awkward silence hung in the air for a moment. Byleth was sure her fingers had fused to her sword hilt. “My hands are freezing,” she said in an attempt to break the tension and turn the conversation elsewhere.
When his eyes met hers, however, he almost looked apologetic. He’d never apologized for his outbursts in the past, so why did he look so regretful now?
Oh.
Oh.
Her attempt to pull his attention away from the awkward situation appeared to work as he strode over to her and removed a glove. Atleast, it worked until his bare hand touched hers, and her cheeks flared with heat. Maybe it was just because his hand was exceptionally warm compared to hers, or maybe it was the sudden close proximity. Regardless, their brief reprieve from recent events was short-lived.
Felix pulled his hand away quickly. “Well, damn, of course they are. You’re gripping a wooden sword in the freezing snow, bare-handed. Will you buy some gloves already?”
“I suppose I’m not used to the cold.” She leaned her sword against a nearby pillar. Relieved that it hadn’t frozen stuck to her palm, she rubbed her now-free hands together for warmth. “It’s worse this year than I remember. Gloves are hard enough to come by, and I can’t...” she paused, recalling how many at the monastery were even less equipped for the cold. “I can’t let myself get comfortable yet.”
Felix sighed, still keeping arm’s distance from her. A moment later, he offered her both of his gloves. She was in the middle of exhaling warm breath against her hands and froze at his sudden gesture.
“Here, you’ll get warmer faster, then we can get back to work.”
He’d never demanded that she borrow anything of his before - not his coat, his gloves, and certainly not his sword. But she knew better than to leave him hanging for too long.
“Thank you,” she said before taking them. Her hands already felt warmer just holding the thick hide fabric. His gloves outsized her hands noticeably, and she didn’t miss the chuckle that came from him when the tips of the fingers flopped over.
But they were extremely warm. Instinctively, she clasped her hands together and brought them close to her face, and she inhaled the scent of pine and sword oil.
Was this how he always smelled?
“Felix?” she asked. He was doing everything in his power to not watch her, but his head turned toward her curiously. “You were right. Traditions are stupid,” she smirked.
His shoulders relaxed, and a half-smile to match her own replaced the scowl that had been present since Sylvain’s provocation. “I get why people have them, but there’s no point to just follow them blindly.”
“Even if they’re just for fun?” she asked.
“Sylvain should know better than to ask me to do something for fun .”
She smirked, “Yes, but he doesn’t know better than to push your buttons. There, I’d say he succeeded.”
Felix scoffed and turned away. As Byleth’s hands warmed, she realized she’d never really taken the time to notice how much her former students had grown. The one before her certainly had. He was taller and stronger, sure. She knew that enough from training with him, but he’d grown in his own mind as well. He’d hardened himself, likely from the war, yet at the same time his gaze had softened towards her and the other Blue Lions, save for Dimitri.
Maybe his vindication, knowing he’d been right all along about the prince, had brought with it a tragic sense of peace.
Back when the prince’s demons had begun to show themselves, Felix had been the only one she could approach about it without getting excuses or looks of pity. That was five years ago, though it still lived freshly in Byleth’s memory.
Five years. She’d seen the growth of her former students, but how had their view of her changed during her absence? How had Felix’s? If he’d thought her to be dead, perhaps he’d simply tucked away memories of her next to Glenn and sought out another rival to overcome. If he’d thought she lived, maybe he’d searched for her and had become more concerned and angry as time went on. Felix hadn’t volunteered which side he’d leaned toward yet, and truth be told, it didn’t matter to Byleth whether he’d believed her to be alive or dead. The fact that he was sparring with her now was enough of an answer.
She learned one more crucial piece of information - that the thought of kissing her made Felix absolutely flustered, not annoyed or irritated.
Despite how everything had changed, Felix remained a source of stability for her. Training with him brought her down to her humanity again, away from the realm of the goddess, nobles, and crests. A second thing she learned - the thought of kissing Felix made her flustered as well.
Amidst the realization, her hands had regained feeling. The growing impatience of her opponent made itself known in the way he paced with folded arms and tapped his bare fingers. Or maybe similar thoughts refused to leave his mind as well.
There was one way to find out.
When Byleth returned to Felix his gloves, she raised herself onto her toes, leaned in, and pecked her lips onto his cheek. He immediately pulled away like she’d just stabbed him, with an eyes-wide look of shock. His cheeks flushed red, and his sword fell from his grasp.
Byleth had seen Felix do many things when caught off guard, but she’d never seen him drop his weapon.
“Wh-what the hell was that for?!”
She retreated a step, doing her best to maintain her calm exterior. “As a thanks, and a way to fulfill that stupid tradition.”
He didn’t respond again, which made her second guess her own judgment. He’d looked like he’d wanted to kiss her, right? She hadn’t imagined the way he let her borrow his gloves, the way he watched her when they sparred.
“I-I’m sorry. I just thought that...you know what? Nevermind. I should go eat. The cold’s obviously getting to me.” She began to back away, but his bare hand caught her wrist. When she looked back in shock, his gaze was still fixated on the ground.
“It-it’s fine,” he croaked and cleared his throat before finally meeting her gaze. “But that’s not how the tradition goes.”
Byleth paused. Why did Felix suddenly care about the rules?
Unless…
“It doesn’t work with...just that.” He stepped closer, keeping a hold on her arm. “You have to…”
Oh.
Did he actually want to kiss her? The way his eyes held her screamed yes , with a taste of caution and a lingering question floating within them. So she answered with the smallest nod she could muster, afraid that moving too quickly would break whatever trance they’d found themselves in.
He didn’t move to touch her anywhere else, but heat flooded her every fiber as he leaned closer and tilted his head to the side. Her eyes closed themselves, overwhelmed at the sight, and then a warmth brushed across her lips. It was brief, if a little ticklish, and she responded in kind before the sensation quickly retreated.
Her eyes remained shut for too long, afraid of the image that would greet her. Would he look happy? Angry? She feared that he may have already turned his back and walked away before his calloused grip on her arm reminded her that he was still within reach.
Finally, her eyelids gained the strength to open, and indeed the sight would’ve made her heart race if it hadn’t been permanently unbeating. Felix watched her intently, searching her for emotions. Her self-expression was still muted, but he’d become one of the few people who could read her subtle changes, and she hoped that his intuition had remained with him after all those years.
What his eyes communicated, on the other hand, was as clear as day to her. Though he watched her, his gaze was soft with his eyelids hanging lightly. She cursed the snow that fell between the few inches of space between them, interrupting her view. She’d never denied that he was handsome in the same way she’d never deny his skills with a sword, yet now he looked to her almost as a lover would. Not quite open and comfortable enough to freely steal hazy glances, but enough to ask another question.
Is this really what you want?
A question that went unasked, as the words that came from him brought her thoughts to a halt. “Now it counts,” he spoke plainly, as if he were commenting on her sword technique.
They avoided one another's gaze once again, with his eyes darting down and hers upwards. She scanned the roof, suddenly paranoid that their prior company hadn’t completely left, and swore she saw a second, fresher disturbance in the snow that blanketed the roof. Whether the redhead would earn himself a few more weeks of stable duty wasn’t on the forefront of her mind, however, compared to the man retreating from her.
“I thought you hated traditions.” She turned her wrist in his grasp so she could return his hold, telling him he could stay if he liked.
Or possibly ask for more.
The thought of kissing him again, fully aware and able to better-prepare herself, erupted butterflies in her chest. She wondered if this was the closest she’d feel to a racing heartbeat.
“I do.” He kept his tone, but his expression held the same question as before. His voice dropped when he spoke again. “But I don’t...hate you.”
She tried to stop the snort that escaped from her nose to no avail, so her free hand came up to cover her face. Now Felix just looked offended, but the way his face continued to redden as he turned away told her that he wished he’d chosen his words better.
But she didn’t. Felix wasn’t the type of man to overthink his words. It was one of his traits that allowed him to be honest and insightful, even if his words stung. Regardless, she knew that I don’t hate you from Felix meant more than the words themselves.
Her grip on his wrist held firm, and she ran her thumb along the fabric of his sleeve. “I don’t hate you either, Felix.”
He seemed to just notice her touch, for his attention turned to their interlocked arms. Facing her again, he made her the flustered one when he slid his fingers down to take her hand instead. It surprised her how quickly he could turn the tables against her.
“Byleth…”
Familiarity hit her as he stepped closer again, only now his other hand caressed her shoulder, his warm gloves discarded somewhere in the snow. The gaze in his eyes, however, had shifted drastically. Where previously he approached her like a stray cat, now his eyes resembled a wolf - hungry and knowing exactly what he wanted. Her breath hitched, and she managed to rest her free hand against his waist. He was warm as always, but she swore he was shivering. No, trembling.
“Felix…”
Whatever words tried to spill from her were stopped, but not with the crashing of his lips against hers like she’d imagined. Instead, the doors to the training grounds burst open.
The wolf-like expression before her switched from hunger to anger. He pushed her away sharply, but she took no offense as she’d probably have done the same. Her attention turned to the entryway, where she expected to see Sylvain. She was partially correct, but the paladin wasn’t alone.
Ashe ran to the front and nearly collapsed into the snow, out of breath. “You aren’t going to believe this, Professor! I was scouting and-”
“Slow down, Ashe, you’re hyperventilating!” Mercedes patted his back and offered him water. Indeed, his face was beet red, and his breathing short. He panted as if he’d just run several miles up the mountain, which would be true if he’d been scouting.
“Let me finish.” He took a deep breath and stepped forward. “Professor, we won’t have to worry about blankets and pelts this winter, because a herd is approaching! A herd of...llamas!”
The surprise threw Byleth in many different mental directions. She suddenly became aware of her and Felix’s state. They’d tried to appear as if they’d just been sparring like any other day, yet their bare hands, long-abandoned swords, and fresh shoeprints in the snow gave away their close proximity only moments ago. She quickly scanned the crowd to see if anyone had picked up on those details. Ashe, though a skilled scout, was too winded and had let his senses drop within the safety of the monastery. Mercedes and Annette hadn’t noticed. So that just left-
Sylvain didn’t even try to hide the grin plastered on his face. He stood unnoticed in the back of the group, just so only Felix and Byleth would catch his gaze. Byleth felt heat rise to her face, but retained her well-practiced stoic facade. Felix, however, failed to hide his flustered annoyance, and his face grew brighter with every second. Luckily for him, the other students were only looking for their former professor’s reaction.
“We’ve never hunted those before,” Byleth said.
“You don’t hunt them!” Annette jumped to gain everyone’s attention. “You shepherd them and use their fleece to make blankets! They can even protect themselves and other livestock from wolves!”
“I don’t recall llamas being around when I was teaching.”
“They’re native to south Fodlan, where the climate is a little more friendly to them.” Sylvain finally broke his painfully teasing silence. “I guess the combination of the war in Alliance and Empire territory with the thinning human population around here drove them this far north.”
“That’s great news.” Byleth managed a small smile. One of her burdens - helping her friends and comrades survive the brutal winter - had been lifted.
“Yes!” Annette beamed. “No one will be cold this year!”
“Does this mean we’ll have to cancel our winter festival?” Mercedes asked.
For whatever reason, they looked to Byleth for an answer. She found the gesture sweet, that they still looked to her for guidance or permission for things she was barely involved in.
She already knew her answer, yet still scanned their faces. Annette and Mercedes begged with their eyes, and she resisted chuckling at their collective adorable nature. Ashe was beginning to regain his strength, seeming to just notice the other people present. It wouldn’t be long before he’d realize the awkwardness of the situation he’d just barged in on.
Sylvain looked to her curiously. She and Felix had practically cursed holiday traditions earlier, though Byleth had nothing against holidays or celebrations themselves. He was scanning her to see if she’d prioritize fun or practicality.
Well, why not both?
Finally, she turned to the man beside her. Felix waited for her reaction as well, though he’d probably only taken in half of the conversation. The flush of his cheeks had begun to subside, and he shot her a half-smile with folded arms. He knew the answer she was about to give, and was savoring the wait as much as she was.
“Of course not.” She could practically feel the collective sigh and smiled before facing the rest of her audience. “There are plenty of hands looking for busy work. I don’t see why we can’t handle both. Marianne is good with animals, so I’ll appoint her to lead.”
“We should clear a pasture for them, so they’ll know where a safe place is,” Annette added.
Ashe just laughed, seemingly still in disbelief of the day’s events. He definitely wasn’t the only one.
“Oh this is wonderful!” Mercedes clasped her hands together. “I hope they’ll come back next year, and the year after that! Imagine if it were safe enough to let children see them!”
“If they do, we’ll make it a-” the last word caught in Byleth’s throat, and her attention was immediately drawn to Sylvain’s smirk, somehow even larger than earlier. She swallowed and cleared her throat, looked to Felix, then back to Sylvain, and finished her thought, “-a tradition.”
Sylvain snickered, which confused everyone but the swordsmen. Felix’s flush quickly returned. It really wasn’t that hard to get a rise out of him, was it?
“Changed your mind on traditions, Professor?” Sylvain asked with his hands on his hips. “Could it be because some of them might work-”
“We got damn lucky,” Felix interrupted, letting loose his thoughts for the first time in this conversation. “You said it yourself: the war, the low population - that drove them here. Not your stupid mistletoe.”
“Oh, you took out the mistletoe!” Mercedes exclaimed. “You’re the best, Sylvain!”
“Just doing my duty.”
“Wait.” Annette tapped her chin. “Did Felix actually kiss someone!”
Byleth had done her work to keep the attention off of Felix thus far, but now he’d thrown himself to the wolves. Even Ashe’s eyes lit up. Byleth couldn’t help her amusement.
“No!” Felix shouted and stomped off to gather his sword. No one stopped him.
Sylvain, despite the endless dancing on Felix’s thin ice, came to his friend’s aid. “Alas, even I cannot get Felix to kiss anyone.” It wasn’t technically a lie.
“What about you, Professor?” Mercedes asked. “Did you kiss anyone?”
“I’m not kissing anyone who still calls me ‘Professor.’” Also not a lie, since Felix hadn’t addressed her by that title since their reunion.
“Good point,” Mercedes giggled. “I just can’t bring myself to call you by your first name yet.”
“Yeah,” Annette said. “You’ll always be our professor, first and foremost.”
“Well, someone’s kiss brought survivability to the monastery, that’s all I’m saying.” Sylvain shrugged his shoulders and shot both Felix and Byleth winks from the back.
Byleth could practically feel the heat radiating off of Felix, compared to the chilled falling snow around them. Luckily for them, Sylvain pushed it no further. Unluckily for them, the rest caught on.
“Felix, are you okay?” Mercedes asked. “You look like you’re catching a cold.”
“I’m fine,” he grumbled. “Just want to get back to training. In case you haven’t noticed, we’re in a war.”
“I suppose we should go count the herd’s numbers,” Ashe said, “and start learning how to use their fleece.”
“Oh! I’ll come!” Annette skipped after him.
Mercedes eyed Felix suspiciously, not in the way Sylvain had, but like a concerned mother. She looked to Byleth, almost to communicate, make sure he takes care of himself , and Byleth affirmed her with a nod. Sylvain was the last to leave, simply offering the pair one last wink and a salute before closing the doors to the training grounds.
Being alone with Felix once more, they couldn’t ignore what had happened. Her exposed skin suddenly forgot all about the cold, and the supposedly fearless Ashen Demon couldn’t bring herself to look in the eyes of the man who’d kissed her.
“I should go, too,” she said. “I need to ask Marianne to take on her role and...other things.”
Felix was silent as she retrieved her training sword and hung it on the weapon rack where it would be protected by the roof’s overhang.
Perhaps he was still as flustered as she was, or he’d lost his courage to act. Or perhaps...he’d regretted it all.
Before she reached the large double doors, however, a firm hold pulled at her wrists and spun her around. Amber eyes met hers again, with a familiar hungry expression.
“Before you go,” he hummed, only audible by their proximity, “just know that I…”
He took a moment to search for the right words, his darting pupils betraying his thoughts. In the end, he gave up on talking and simply kissed her. Damn him for catching her off-guard again, but she wouldn’t hesitate a second time. She pulled her wrists free in favor for grasping his fur collar. Soon she felt his hands at her waist, and knew he wouldn’t retreat.
So warm. He was so warm, and suddenly surviving the harsh war-torn winter didn’t feel so improbable.
Inhuman (3)
Summary: All beings in the universe have a soulmate except for Midgardians. People can hear their soulmate in their heads. For almost five hundred and fifty years, Loki believed that he had no soulmate until 1513 when a Midgardian princess was born. Will fate be kind to them or will the universe tear them apart?
Warnings: violence, language, hella historical inaccuracies (I tried to do research but then got lazy), maybe some AOS season 2 spoilers(?)
Word Count: ~3800
A/N: My HS German teacher would be so disappointed to discover I used Google Translate. I also actually researched WWII med kits for this.
Tumblr media
[New York, New York, March 2024]
You sat at your kitchen counter and admired the ruby ring on your finger. Max had gotten half of what he had pillaged from Anderson’s home, you had even let him have first choice. He also got a third of the million dollars you had earned for the death of Morano. You had also given Izzy one fourth of the million for her troubles.
“What’s next?” Max asked from your couch.
“Nothing.” You stood up and joined your friend on the couches.
“Bitch, what are you saying?” He raised an eyebrow at you. Today’s theme was gold. When he had walked into your apartment, he held up one manicured nail as a warning before you could say anything. “We just had a great haul and you wanna stop before we really get the ball rolling?”
“The Avengers got involved,” you pointed out. “I am not dealing with them.”
“Why the fuck not?”
“They’re heroes set on ridding the world of evil and we literally fucking kill people for a living.”
“Uh-huh. Are you sure you’re not just avoiding someone?” Max laughed.
“I’m sure,” you said with a glare but Max only laughed harder. “What I’m avoiding— Max, shut up. What I’m fucking avoiding is being thrown in jail or even death. You just want to be caught so that you can shoot your shot with a supersoldier.”
“Or the God of Thunder.” He gasped and looked at you with wide eyes. “What if we could be in-laws!” You rolled your eyes and suppressed a smirk. “Hmm. Imagine being dicked down by a god. Well, I doubt you have to imagine.”
“Shut.” You picked up a pillow. “The.” You smacked Max. “Fuck.” Smack! “Up.” Smack!
“How was it? Tell me everything.” He escaped to the loveseat and composed himself.
“Get your fuckin’ head out of the gutter, Max. It was back in the 1500s and I was a princess and princesses don’t just go around getting ‘dicked down’ as you so nicely put it.”
“Damn, sometimes I forget that you were literally the Queen of fucking England.” He cocked his head. “Are you sure you don’t want to see Loki again? From what you told me it sounded like you really loved him and he loved you.”
“I-I never said it, though.” It was true. You loved Loki. You still love Loki. Did he love you too? You were soulmates and you were made for each other, but it had been four hundred and eight-six shitty years since he had last seen you. “Not to mention the awkward situation of having to explain why I’m still alive.”
“Um, that’s easy,” Max said. “It’s just, ‘Oh, Loki,’” he mimicked your voice. “‘It’s me, (Y/N), the one and only love of your life. Surprise! I’m still alive.’”
“That’s not how I sound.” But you couldn’t hide your grin.
“‘I am an Inhuman whose power is to look pretty and live forever.’”
“Your power is very obviously not mimicry.”
“See? Easy,” Max smirked. “I give you full permission to plagiarize my speech.”
“Nuh uh. It’s not plagiarism if I pay you to write my speeches.”
“Honey, what speeches are you making?”
Before you could respond, your phone started ringing. Hardly anyone called you. Could it be the Avengers? It couldn’t be, no matter how good Stark’s AI was. Max was also giving your phone a strange look. Your curiosity got the best of you and you answered.
“Hello?”
“(Y/N)? Oh, my god. Listen I know you said only to call if it’s an emergency, but it’s an emergency,” the person on the other side spoke quickly.
“Wait, wait. Arthur, is that you?” Arthur was your man up in Michigan with the ability to generate light.
“Yes, it’s Arthur. I’m calling because the Avengers showed up at my last job. I barely managed to get a picture and get out. I might have blinded the Scarlet Witch!”
“She’ll be okay. Hey, man. How about you lay low for a while. Spread the word for others to do the same.”
“Yes, ma’am. I’ll do that.”
“Stay safe, Arthur,” you parted.
“What happened?” Max asked.
You told him everything. “We have a technokeniser nearby, don't we?”
🌹
You looked at yourself in the mirror, the night time New York skyline twinkling behind you. You wore nothing but your undergarments, but your black stealth suit was waiting for you on your bed. Your skin was smooth and unblemished thanks to your accelerated cell healing. Everything was perfect except for the single, one-inch scar directly above your left knee.
Apparently, vibranium was your weakness. It didn’t bother you because everyone had to have a weakness. Thankfully, it was a rare metal on Earth. Your cells repaired themselves slowly like a normal human when it came to injuries dealt with vibranium. You had learned that the hard way.
[Austria 1944]
You were in central Austria for two weeks while things back in New York calmed down. It turned out that the man you had strangled three days ago was a low ranking member of the local mafia. Because the man wasn’t that important, they would, hopefully, move on quickly and you could safely resume your contract killings.
It was a beautiful place, with many trees that were changing with the season and beautiful lush mountains. Just a few days after you had arrived, Captain America and the Howling Commandos rolled into town. People cheered and it almost felt like a parade.
You had heard of them of course, going around Europe dismantling the Nazi organization called Hydra. You walked through town, dress swishing around your calves and hair pinned in the latest style. You looked like the stereotypical rich American girl. Your favorite heels clicked along the cobblestone road as you windowshopped.
“Guten Tag Fräulein,” a young man winked at you as he leaned against a wall. “Du siehst wunderschön aus, aber du würdest noch besser aussehen wenn—”
His words stopped when your fist slammed into his face, your ring cutting his cheek. You were not in the fucking mood to be catcalled today. You were never in the mood to be catcalled.
“Du verdienst das,” another male voice said behind you.
You turned around and your eyes widened when you saw one of the Howling Commandos standing there. More specifically, James Buchanan Barnes, Captain America’s best friend from Brooklyn.
“Bist du in Ord-Ordnung?” he stumbled over the word.
“I didn’t know you could speak German,” you smirked and continued your stroll through town. “Not the best at it, though.”
“Oh, you’re American!” He fell into step next to you. From the twenty-some years you had lived in New York growing your business, you had lost your accent.
“I suppose,” you said vaguely.
“We kinda need to know some German if we’re going to be intercepting Nazi communications,” he explained and rubbed the back of his head. “They usually don’t ask if everyone’s alright, so I don’t really know the phrase.”
“Bist du in Ordnung?”
“Bist du in Ordung?” he tried and you chuckled.
“Ord-nung,” you drew out the syllables.
“Ordnung.”
“Bist du in Ordnung?”
“Bist du in Ordnung?”
“That’s better,” you smiled. “You’ll be sweeping girls off their feet with your German in no time Sergent.”
“This may be a bit forward,” he said slowly and you raised your eyebrows. “But… Do you want to see the shield? Considering you’re American and all that. Girls always want to see Captain America’s shield.”
“Bold of you to assume I’m like them.” You brought a finger up to your chin and pretended to think. “But my answer is yes. I would like to see the shield.”
He grinned and led you to the edge of the forest. You held nothing against forests, but they always reminded you of Loki. They reminded you of the days long ago when he actually was there for you. When he cared about you. When you hesitated before going under the cover of trees, Barnes gave you a strange look.
“Just a bit suspicious,” you lied. “Leadin’ a sweet little dame like me into a mysterious forest mere minutes after you met me?”
“Based on what I saw back there, you can handle yourself. If anythin’, I’m worried ‘bout myself. The rest of the Commandos are within shouting distance so don’t you try anything,” he said with a laugh.
You joined in and you two walked deeper into the forest. Sure enough, the sounds of boisterous laughter and cheers reached your ears. Captain America and the Howling Commandos sat around a small clearing. When you said ‘small clearing’ you meant small. Like a circle with a three-meter radius small.
“Who do you have there, Buck?” a tall blond asked. It took you a moment to realize that he was Captain America. You almost didn’t recognize him without his helmet.
“Fellas, this is… Do I know your name?” The Howling Commandos lived up to their names and began to howl with laughter.
“You can call me (Y/N),” you laughed. “James saw me punch a guy and invited me to check out Captain America’s shield.”
“What’s a nice American dame doin’ all the way in Austria?” a man with a prominent mustache asked. Dum Dum Dougan.
“Hiding.”
“So you wanted to see the shield?” Jim Morita asked.
“That would be nice.” A look passed around the group. “I’m not going to steal it,” you scoffed. “Even if that was my intention, I’m wearing heels.” Another look went around.
“Be careful,” the Captain handed the red, white, and blue shield to you. “Buck, can I talk to you?” He and Barnes walked away and with your enhanced hearing, you briefly heard, “-can’t just bring over any dame…”
You smirked and examined the shield. Vibranium, the metal was called. It was strange how light it actually was. Once you finished, you looked up at the remaining Commandos who were staring at you.
“Do you know any tricks?”
Gabe Jones eagerly raised his hand and you passed him the shield. The other men quickly scrambled away. Jones threw the shield like a frisbee and it rebounded off of a tree with surprising speed, the dark-skinned man barely caught it.
“That was pretty good, eh?” he asked the group.
“Au moins, cela n'a touché personne cette fois,” Jacques Dernier spoke in quick French. At least you didn’t hit anyone this time. Jones groaned and you hid your smirk.
“I have a trick,” James Montgomery Falsworth said.
He took the shield from Jones and everyone took another step backward. Falsworth noticed this and rolled his eyes. He roughly threw the shield in the air with a flick of his wrist that gave it a spin. You guessed he wanted it to bounce back to him, but the shield hit a rock and veered off course.
Instead of returning to Falsworth’s hand, it flew at you. The vibranium hit your left leg above your knee through your dress. How sharp was the shield because it actually cut your leg. You could already see some blood seep into the dress.
“Oh fuck! I mean gosh darn it!” Dougan cried and helped you stay on your feet.
“I didn’t— I’m so sorry,” Falsworth stuttered in his British accent. “Are you okay?”
If only he knew that he had hit one of his former Queens. The thought made you laugh through the stinging pain in your leg. You shifted your weight onto your right leg.
“I’m fine,” you said in between short bursts of giggles. It wasn’t that funny. Anyways, the wound would heal soon.
“What happened?” Captain America and Barnes returned to the group.
“Uh—”
“Er—”
“Um—”
“The shield hit my leg,” you said and motioned to the small bit of blood on your dress. “I’m fine though.”
“We were only gone for two minutes.” The Captain looked at the Commandos.
“They just wanted to show off for a pretty dame,” Barnes winked at you.
“I told you guys to be careful,” the Captain sighed. “Come with me, ma’am, and I can help you clean up.”
Small wounds like these would usually be healed by now so you were about to tell him that you can handle it yourself but you could still feel the sting of the cut. You nodded and accepted his invitation. You walked over to him and he put an arm around you to help you support your weight.
He brought you to a house on the edge of the forest. Rows of cots covered the ground. A table with a map stood in the back. Men’s clothes and trinkets laid around the room. The Captain led you to one cot and pulled out a small first aid kit from underneath.
You rolled your skirt up just until the wound was visible. It was about two and a half centimeters long, but it was a bit deeper than you expected. The Captain pulled out a small tin box that read ‘Iodine Swabs.’ He removed one of the swabs and began to clean around your wound.
“I don’t know how this could have happened,” he said. You realized he was trying to avoid touching you.
“You can touch me. I don’t mind.” He nodded and the process went faster. “And don’t worry about the shield.”
“It shouldn’t be able to cut skin like this.” He moved onto the hydrogen peroxide and dampened a cotton pad with the solution.
“It was spinning. Maybe that had something to do with it?” Another question, a more important question was why weren’t you healed yet?
“Maybe.” Then he began to profusely apologize when you hissed the moment the hydrogen peroxide touched your wound. “Sorry, ma’am.”
“It’s alright, Captain,” you laugh lightly. “And just call me (Y/N).”
“Alright, (Y/N).” He wrapped your injury and gave you a kind smile. “Then you can call me Steve.”
“First name basis with Captain America, huh?”
🌹
Your phone read 2:47 as your silver Porsche 911 rolled to a silent stop with its headlights off. The Avengers compound was about a mile up the road. Liam, with his technokinesis, managed to get you this close, but now you had to leave the safety of the car. You crept through the woods, Max and Liam close behind you.
Liam just wore black jeans and a black leather jacket. He also had a black bandana around his head, again, courtesy of Max. Max also wore a similar leather jacket and bandana as well as black leather pants and a cape. He had shown you his Captain America shirt underneath the jacket, you know, ‘just in case.’ You were in a fucking normal skintight stealth suit.
“What if we get lost?” Liam whispered.
“We won’t,” you said. There was a force pulling you in the right direction. You could feel the familiar aura Loki’s presence grow stronger as you neared the compound. Your heart was racing, but it wasn’t because of the current mission. Could he feel you too?
Fifteen minutes later, the Avengers compound came into view. Fortunately, Liam didn’t need a computer to do his work. Stark was so fucking tech savvy that all Liam needed was to get inside. He didn’t need any help to do that either, easily disabling the electronic locks. Honestly, you and Max were just there for protection. Max took watch outside while you stayed with Liam inside.
“You know what to do?” you asked and kept your eyes fixed on the dark hallway.
“Yeah,” he placed his hand on the wall and closed his eyes. Glowing blue lines that resembled a circuit board grew from his hand. “First delete everything they have on us. Then, if there’s time, scramble everything else.”
“How long is it going to take?”
“Not too long. Maybe ten to fifteen minutes?”
This was the closest you’ve been to Loki since 2012. Maybe the closest you’ve been to him since 1538. What was he doing right now? Was he sleeping? Would your presence wake him up? If you could just…
“Where are you going?” Liam’s words shook you out of your head.
Where were you going? To your soulmate, probably. You were five feet away from where you stood before your mind was consumed by the thought of Loki.
The distraction had consequences when Max’s shout of surprise made you look back just in time to see your friend doge a blast from Iron Man. A small sound from the end of the hall caused you to whirl back around. You ducked, barely missing being decapitated by Captain America’s shield and you knew you wouldn’t heal from that.
“Fuck.” You pulled out a gun as the shield returned to its owner. “How much time do you need?” You fired twice down the hall and saw two sets of sparks where the bullets met the vibranium shield. Your eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness and saw your opponent.
“Just give me two minutes.”
Liam opened his eyes and clenched his fist at the flying billionaire outside. The Iron Man suit’s eyes dimmed and it fell to the ground. That left Max to deal with the Black Widow who was doing well on Max’s ice-like surface.
You went to meet the Captain in the dim hallway. You landed a quick hit on him before he could react. Instead of raising his shield, he pushed it into your chest, shoving you back. He moved forward and you dodged his punch. You went to punch Steve’s head again and this time he raised his shield. When he did, you used your other hand to punch him in the stomach. Hard. He bent over slightly and you took the opportunity to sweep his feet out from under him. You noticed something…
Shit, was Loki getting closer? You could feel the link grow stronger.
Steve used his shield to sweep your feet out from under you this time. You landed on your back which knocked the breath out of you. To recover, you took a deep breath while Steve pinned you to the ground. He was about to hit your face but you managed to catch his fist. Using his momentum, you forced his fist down to the side of your face, throwing him off balance. You flipped him over and now you were on top.
“Ma’am, we can work this out,” he said. Captain America, always the diplomat.
“I thought we were on a first name basis, Steve,” you smirked and you could pinpoint the moment realization set in. Using his distracted state, you grabbed his shield and slammed it into the side of his head, effectively knocking him out.
“We’re good to go,” Liam called. Just in time because Loki was definitely coming.
You stood up and took an involuntary step in the wrong direction. In the direction Loki was. Fuck, fuck, fuckity, fuck. Come on, (Y/N). Go the other way. Finally, your body listened to you and you ran out the doors.
“You deleted the security footage of tonight too, right?” you asked Liam as you ran.
“Yes, I got that too.”
Max saw the two of you and joined you, leaving the Black Widow on the unnaturally smooth grass. You passed the Iron Man suit that was laying on its back. Wait, was the Stark asshole still in there? Yes, you could hear faint complaining coming from the suit.
You felt the ground under you change to feel springier like a track, no doubt Max’s doing. The three of you made it back to the car within seven minutes, all of you out of breath with you less so than the two men.
You started your car and sped down the road. Max and Liam collapsed in the back.
“Man, that was awesome what you did to Iron Man,” Max laughed.
“Nah, you were great against the Black Widow. Not everyone gets away with just a black eye and cut lip.”
“And bruised ribs and missing a cape.”
The two men laughed in the backseat as the adrenaline wore off but your tight grip on the steering wheel didn’t relax until the feeling of Loki was gone.
🌹
Bucky, Sam, Wanda, Thor, and Brunnhilde were immediately called to the conference rooms when they returned from Michigan. Steve quickly found Bucky by the hanger. The metal armed supersoldier noticed that his blond friend was in uniform and had a couple faint bruises on his face.
“What the fuck happ—”
“Do you remember being in Austria in 1944?” Steve cut him off.
“Those were pretty busy years, pal. We were all over the fuckin’ place.”
“Do you remember a girl? You said she punched some Austrian guy in the face for catcalling her. You brought her to meet the Commandos and Falsworth hit her with my shield? Her name was (Y/N).”
“Um, yeah, I think I remember. She taught me some German.” Bucky raised an eyebrow at his friend. “Why are you askin’?”
“She was here and it was like she hadn’t aged a day,” Steve said and gauged his friend’s reaction. “She was actually the one to…” he gestured at his bruised face.
“So what actually happened?” They walked into the conference room.
“Short story?” Tony asked. A blind man would have been able to tell that the billionaire was furious. “Three fucking people broke into the fucking compound and fucking deleted the files I had created for the fucking white rose assassins case.” He slammed his fist on the table each time he swore.
“What do we have?” Sam asked. “‘Cause we got nothin’ from Michigan.”
“Yeah.” Wanda put her head on the table. “Just blinded.”
“Three people,” Steve repeated. “Two men and one woman, all enhanced. against me, Nat, and Tony. Clint is still benched.”
“Where were you, brother?” Thor looked at Loki.
“I was distracted about something else,” he stated
Loki thought about what had happened during the attack. He had sensed her. But that was impossible, wasn’t it? Something had been trying to pull him somewhere. When he finally gave in, the feeling had led him to find an unconscious Captain and Stark trapped in his own suit. The tugging had faded then and the attackers were nowhere to be found.
“The woman,” Steve continued. “I think she was the same one from the cafe.”
“She has to be at the head of this thing,” Nat said.
Loki had thought the woman in the video had reminded him of (Y/N).
“I met her before.” Everyone looked at Steve.
“We both did,” Bucky added. “In Austria back during the war.”
“And she hasn’t aged a day. She referenced something she said when we met. I know it was her. I never forget anything.”
The God of Mischief’s heart missed a beat. Was it possible for the woman to be older than they thought? All signs were pointing at (Y/N). The woman’s familiarity. The strange tugging. The long life.
“What does this mean?” Clint asked.
“We don’t know.”
The Demon’s Bride (5)
So, call out for this post is....Broken Harmony by @dessarious . It’s an amazing take on a soulmate AU. I freaking enjoy every new update.
Beginning Previous Next Masterpost
___________________
The buzz of excitement filled Damian all morning. Their year’s Blade Master had finally decided they were ready to start sparring. (They weren’t. They were meant to work on forms in pairs and how the moves worked to counter each other.)
As the students paired up he was left with one of the quietest and smallest girls in the class. This will be so boring, he thought to himself as he looked around for any of the other children that would be suitable for his level of training, but everyone else was already paired and had begun moving.
“Thank you for your time,” the girl said with a shallow bow before settling into the opening stance.
“You should be,” Damian said announced haughtily. He was the grandson of the Demon’s Head. She should be grateful he would spar with someone so beneath his training.
The girl narrowed her eyes at him but kept silent as they began the movements of the forms. They continued at a steady rhythm until Damian started to get bored with this practice.
“Hey,” she exclaimed as Damian changed his next block into a counter strike and tagged the girl on the arm.
One of the trainers that was overseeing their practice came over to watch them.
“Back into position,” they barked at the two.
Damian glared at the girl as they resumed their forms under the trainer’s supervision. The trainer watched them closely for a moment before another pair of students called his attention away. Damian continued following the approved forms until he got bored again. Ignoring the next steps in the assigned form he performed a quick series of jerky jabs at the girl hitting her a couple of times.
Instead of yelling out again she narrowed her eyes and waited, blocking his hits until she had an opening. In a quick move she dropped to a crouch and kicked his legs out from under him.
Damian grunted as he landed hard on his backside. He flushed red as the other students in the class laughed at him.
“Enough,” the Blade Master said walking over to them. “Go stand in the hallway until I come talk to you. The both of you,” she said as Damian stood up.
“Yes Blade Master,” the girl dropped her head in shame as she walked towards the door of the training room.
“Go,” the trainer interrupted Damian as he started to argue.
He stomped his way to the hallway where the girl was already standing against the wall for their punishment.
How dare they make me stand out here. I’m an Al Ghul, he sulked to himself as he stood and waited for the trainer.
They waited maybe ten minutes until the Blade Master came outside. She turned to the girl first. “Do you understand what you did wrong?”
“Yes Blade Master, I did not follow the assigned steps. I deviated from the pattern and could have hurt another trainee.”
“Go pair with trainee Juleka. Every third pattern I want you to check her steps and ensure she maintains a strong stance. Understood?”
“Yes Blade Master,” she said bowing before entering the training room.
Damian looked at the trainer defiantly as he waited for his punishment.
The trainer knelt before him so they were nearly at eye level. “I’m disappointed in your actions in there Young Master,” she said in an even tone.
Damian flinched at that. Oh no, he failed in his training. Now she was going to tell his mother and she was going to be mad at him for failing and he was going to get extra training that weekend.
Damian blinked at the Trainer when she lifted his chin up to meet her eyes again. “I’m not disappointed that you were able to do moves that are above your year group. I know that you have more training than the other students because of your private training. I’m disappointed that you did not have the discipline to follow the assigned practice.”
Damian dropped his eyes. His tummy felt weird. All squirmy and achy and he couldn’t look at her sad eyes anymore.
“I know you are doing better than most of your year, I’m going to ask that you take the extra training with the advanced students. However, I want you to practice discipline while we are in the regular training class and do what the other students are doing. Do you understand?” she asked.
“Yes Blade Master,” Damian whispered to the floor at his feet.
“Good. If you can do that then I won’t have to mention why you fell during class to your mother now will I,” she asked and smiled when Damian jerked his head up to look at her. “Go back inside and pair up with Kagami, same orders as I gave Marinette. Every third form give her feedback. Understood?”
“Yes Blade Master Cheng, I understand,” Damian said with a small smile in return.
*******************
“Really, Master Jason, I don’t see why you need to be laughing like one of Ms Quinn’s pets,” Alfred said.
Todd, who was on the floor he was laughing so hard, just waved a hand at Alfred. But he didn’t stop laughing. The others were looking at him because what was so funny about the story Damian told them?
“Demon Spawn, Mr.-I’m-A-Perfect-Warrior, himself, got taken down by a little girl,” Jason hooted.
Damian was irritated by the howling of his idiotic brother. “I was five, lackwit. And she wasn’t just any trainee, she was the Blade Master’s daughter. She had just as much training as I did.” He sighed in frustration and leaned back in his seat. “Though I was admittedly arrogant and as my Master said undisciplined at the time.”
“You respect the trainer?” Dick asked when he noted the respect Damian used when speaking of her.
“Sabine Cheng was an amazing trainer, but more than that she was an amazing mother. Even to a neglected, arrogant brat like myself.” Damian said with a small smile. (Minuscule really, barely even there. “Lies Grayson. I don’t smile. I am the Night.”)
“Cheng? Marinette’s mother?” Tim asked. He had read the file Damian pulled up over his brothers shoulder back in the cave.
Jason stopped laughing as he turned with the others to look at Damian for his response.
“The same. And yes it was Mari that knocked me down and taught me humility. And brought me to the people that would first teach me what it meant to be family.”
______________
Sabine is a good mama in this story. I swear she’s a part of the league for reasons. (How many are groaning with that teaser😈) I do have some ideas of where this story is going but I’m not sure how we’re getting there and the next chapter is the result of the what?? when that happens to me. Still gotta polish it but I might just end up leaving it. I’m mostly satisfied with it. I wasn’t lying when I reposted that my characters are always surprising me, my stories tend to be very character driven and I’m just the unreliable navigator that get’s us lost in Utah when we’re trying to get to Texas (I just pulled random states out of the air). BTW, I did make a one word change in the last two chapters, instead of Marinette going to the Manor for lunch I changed it to dinner. (If anyone noticed that).
Out of curiosity what are thoughts on my little narrator inserts from the characters/narrator? You know the random thoughts (“those are random?” Shut it, Todd). I’m enjoying them and they’re not going away but I was wondering about others impressions.
Ok, on to the taglist and thank you for reading. First @mindfulmagics cuz seriously Demon’s Bride wouldn’t be here without you and @ozmav starting this crazy train
A Terrible Mistake (part II)
Author’s Note: So here it is! My entry for Day 26 of the Choices May Challenge; due to my imagination running rather wild, I have decided to split this fic into more than two parts, so I apologise that this specific part is shorter than originally planned. In addition to this, though this one shot turned three-part fic is Kamilah x Amy centered, this particular part focuses on a conversation between Adrian and Kamilah - I thought that it would be nice to portray the aftermath of Amy’s departure on Kamilah, in addition to how Adrian would try to fix things between two of his closest friends. Part III should be out in the next couple of days - at least before Monday.
Thank you @mrskamilxh for the prompt suggestion - I’m sorry that this has taken me so long to write!
Part I of ‘A Terrible Mistake’ can be found here... please read this BEFORE part two, otherwise none of this will make any sense.
Summary: A couple of days after Amy moved out of Kamilah’s penthouse, the pair are unwittingly brought together by Adrian. But before Kamilah can attempt to make amends with the woman she loves, she has to explain herself to Adrian.
Choices May Challenge Day 26 prompt: Loneliness
Word Count: 1′705
Warning: Language - it’s not bad, but it’s there!
‘You didn’t tell her I was here, did you?’
Kamilah stands in the middle of Adrian’s office, her arms folded firmly across her chest.
‘Amy hasn’t exactly been very responsive to my messages… and has pretty much ignored every attempt I have made to contact her.’
‘I haven’t told Amy anything,’ he meets her with a reassuring smile, ‘as far as she is aware, you are currently in Prague chairing a briefing with the Vice President of Ahmanet Financial.’
‘That’s a rather elaborate excuse,’ she pinches the bridge of her nose, shaking her head in whimsical befuddlement, ‘you may as well have lied to her.’
‘I would never lie to Amy,’ he takes a seat at his desk, reaching up to adjust his tie, ‘you may be my closest friend, Kamilah, but I value my friendship with her; she has been a good friend to me over the past year, and that’s something that I do not wish to lose. She trusts me to be honest with her.’
He meets her eyes for a moment, but it is not long before she looks away, glancing down at her blouse. She tugs at the hem, straightening the creases as she fixes her appearance.
‘I wish I could say the same…’
He regards her with a sympathetic gaze, frowning slightly at her response.
‘She’ll come around, Kamilah; you just have to give her time.’
‘I’m afraid that it’s not that simple, Adrian,’ she sighs defeatedly, tucking her hands under the fabric of her blazer, ‘this isn’t some playground spat.’
‘Yeah I’m aware,’ he cups his chin in his palm, ‘I spoke to her shortly after she arrived at her old apartment.’ He remains silent for a moment, his mind lost in thought, before pressing on, his inquisitiveness leaving a sour taste in Kamilah’s mouth.
‘Why did you do it?’
She scoffs, a sharp exhale escaping her as he regards her with puzzlement.
‘Why are you asking me this?’ She replays the events of that night in her head, grimacing at the memory of Amy’s face as she told her about the kiss, ‘you know what transpired that night!’
‘I didn’t ask you what happened, Kamilah… I asked you why.’
Her brows furrow as she watches him in astonishment, clearly startled by his questioning.
‘We argued, and I… I left her at home whilst I -’
‘Whilst you went and sought out the company of another.’
‘It wasn’t like that!’ She exclaims, her hands clenching into fists, ‘I would NEVER do something to intentionally hurt her!’
‘Then why did you -’
‘It was a moment of weakness, Adrian,’ she sighs defeatedly, running a frustrated hand across her face, ‘she was there, and I… I just… I needed to feel like myself again.’ She goes quiet for a moment, yet Adrian is able to hear her next few words, which remain barely audible to the ear.
‘I needed to feel like someone wanted me.’
‘You’ve never had a reason to feel unloved or unwanted,’ he interjects, his jaw clenched, ‘Amy is probably one of the kindest, most affectionate people that I have ever known. She wears her heart on her sleeve and has always gone out of her way to make you feel like the most important person in the room.’
‘I…’ she pauses momentarily, slightly taken aback by his utterance, ‘I know that…’
‘Do you love her?’
‘Of course I do!’ The intonation in her voice rises, and for the first time since she arrived at his office, Adrian is able to pick up on the passion in her tone, ‘I love her with all that I am.’
‘Then why didn’t you try and make amends with her instead of leaving her on her own?’
‘I was UPSET!’
‘And Amy wasn’t?’ He shakes his head in annoyance, conflict evident in his voice, ‘did you ever stop to think about how Amy would feel? How she felt after you left her alone in your apartment, or were you just solely focused on yourself?’
‘What?’ She stands before him, mouth agape in surprise, ‘how could you say that to me?’
‘Oh I don’t know, maybe because you seem to be focused on how this has affected you, rather than the impact that your actions have had on her.’
‘You don’t think that I haven’t thought about that?! You think that I haven’t spent the last few nights constantly reminding myself of what my actions have cost me? I have sat at my desk for days trying to work through the pain, but every time I manage a breakthrough my mind goes back to her!’ Her breath slowly catches in her throat, but she forces herself to press on, ‘I lie in bed at night hoping that all of this has been nothing more than a terrible dream, one that I cannot seem to shake... and that when I wake, she... she’ll be there.’
Adrian watches her for a moment, weighing the sincerity in her words, but once he notices her tearful expression, he shakes his head, clearing his mind of any negative thoughts.
‘Why haven’t you told her all of this? Instead of acting as if you don’t give a damn about how this has hurt her…’
‘I DO GIVE A DAMN!’
‘I’m afraid that she doesn’t feel the same way.’
‘You’ve…you’ve spoken to her about this?’
‘Of course,’ he acknowledges her query with a brisk nod, ‘I may be her employer, but I’m also her friend.’
She quirks a brow in confusion, her expression one of befuddlement, ‘why didn’t you say anything to me when I called?’
He tilts his head, regarding her with curiosity.
‘Was I supposed to?’
‘Well… yes if my friendship meant as much to you as you claim it does.’
‘You know it does, Kamilah,’ he blinks slowly, as if trying to process the reason for her interrogative questioning, ‘but what about Amy’s wishes? Was I to just disrespect her by telling you what she had shared with me in confidence just to please you?’
‘What?’ She exclaims, clearly dumbfounded, ‘I never said that I wanted you to go behind her back!’
‘Then why ask me to engage in this conversation?’
Before Kamilah has the chance to respond, the pair are interrupted by a soft chime, alerting Adrian to a new message; he removes his phone from his pocket, checking the screen for any notification. After a while, he focuses his attention back on Kamilah, greeting her with a rueful smile. She takes a step towards his desk, her brows narrowed.
‘Do I even want to know who that was?’
He chuckles softly, shaking his head.
‘I’m not dating anyone, if that is what you’re insinuating…’
‘Well, you’re not exactly getting any younger,’ her voice is soft and melancholic, a wistful smile tugging at the corner of her lips, ‘and you shouldnt prioritise my happiness over your own.’
He places his phone back into his pocket.
‘I’m afraid that the only way that I would be able to have that happiness is if I was to tread on other people’s toes,’ he spares Kamilah a nervous glance, unsure as to whether he should continue. He clears his throat, bowing his head as if to avert her eyes, ‘and you know that I could never be the person that stole someone else’s happily ever after to secure my own.’
‘And I’m guessing that the toes you would be treading on are mine?’
He responds with a curt nod.
‘And the happily ever after that you seek is with…’
‘You know the answer to that question already,’ he sighs despondently, clasping the arms of his office chair, ‘but you know my stance on that matter.’
‘Well it’s not like you have a lot to take away from me,’ she closes her eyes briefly, exhaling sharply, ‘Amy and I haven’t spoken since she left.’
‘I wouldn’t be so sure of that.’
Kamilah looks at him, confused.
‘I’m not following…’
‘The message I received,’ he flashes her a subtle, yet gregarious smile, ‘I asked Amy to come to my office just before the end of her shift.’
‘What?’ Her eyes widen at his words, throwing her hands up in frustration, ‘you know that she doesn’t want to talk to me, Adrian! I think she made that pretty clear when she BLOCKED my number for the first couple of days after.’
‘She doesn’t know, Kamilah,’ the pair divert their attention to his office door, subsequently becoming aware of the sound of familiar footsteps as they begin their approach, ‘I didn’t tell her that you were visiting today.’
‘Isn’t that the equivalent of a lie?’
‘No,’ he rises from his chair, tucking it underneath the table, ‘I told her that we had a few things to discuss, which is accurate, though I failed to make her aware that she would be talking to you first. Lying would imply telling her something that was untrue, so… what I have done here is more of an omission.’
She shakes her head in disbelief.
‘You do realise that she is going to hate you after this don’t you? You forced her hand.’
‘I have given you both the opportunity to address the status of your relationship, Kamilah. I haven’t forced either of you to do anything against your will,’ he walks over to the bookcase, retrieving a begotten flask from the shelf.
‘But -’
‘You need closure, Kamilah,’ he hands her the flask, ‘as does she.’
‘But what if this is the end?’ She looks down at the phial, her gaze fixating on the intricate design of the material that protects the liquid contents, ‘what if this is the last time that we ever speak to one another?’
He meets her gaze for a moment, his demeanour softening as he notices the fear in her eyes, as if she is afraid of the outcome of this conversation. He thinks carefully for a moment, unsure as to how he should continue, but it is not long before he speaks, his words filling Kamilah with a newfound sense of purpose.
‘You make it count,’ he walks around his desk, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder, ‘and you show her that she is worth fighting for.’
Promises Not Kept Part 19
Summary: Tommy Shelby made a promise to Jonah Ward while in the war. A promise he didn't keep. But it comes to haunt him when he tries to drown out his sorrows with a young woman.
Part 19: The Changretta situation is resolved and Leah feels ready to start living life again.
           Leah paused singing and looked over at Tommy. He had been brooding in the corner since they returned from the fight. He shied from her touch and had gone completely silent. Yet he wouldn’t leave the small bedroom. Normally, in Warwickshire, if he was in such a mood he would wander the grounds. Circling back and forth around to the stables, the pastures, inside upstairs into Grace’s room. Back out onto the lawn and towards the stables again.
           But in Small Heath, after the loss of Arthur, he refused to leave Leah and Charlie’s side. And he was so agitated that he couldn’t sit still. His gun was in his hand, spinning the barrel around and around. The clicking noise, accompanied with Tommy’s intense presence was inhibiting Charlie’s ability to fall asleep. He kept tossing and turning, his eyes blinking tiredly but never closing for very long. But Tommy didn’t notice and continued the fidget.
           “Uh…breakers rolling to the coastline.” Leah’s voice shook and she reached for Charlie’s small hand. He latched onto her hand and yawned. “Bringing ships to harbor.”
           Click click click click.
           Leah swallowed and gathered Charlie into her arms. “Is Finn still downstairs?” She asked.
           Tommy nodded wordlessly.
           “Maybe Charlie’ll sleep better in his room then.” She stood and went to bring the exhausted child into the next room. There he wouldn't be disturbed by his father's grief.
           Her husband reacted like a lightning bolt. He kicked the chair back and slammed a hand on the door before she could even reach for the handle. “He stays in here.” His words were ice cold, colder than the frigid blue of his eyes.
           Leah instinctually tightened her hold on Charlie in shock. He'd been short with her before but never had he been so abrasive. “He can’t fall asleep in here, I think it would be better if he had a quieter…”
           “Neither of you are leaving my fucking sight.”
           Charlie snuffled and whined against her shoulder. Tommy's angry tone shaking him. “Mumma.” His fingers wrapped around her blouse collar.
           She gently rocked him, trying to reassure him he was safe. “Tommy, he’s exhausted and you’re keeping him awake. He’ll be fine in the other room.”
           “Don’t fucking argue with me, not now.” He demanded and refused to move his hand from the door. "Of all the times you want to fucking argue with me?"
           Charlie whimpered and ducked his face. "Mumma!" He cried louder.
           “You’re scaring him, Thomas.” She scolded quietly. There was no way she was about to have a full-blown argument in front of the boy. “I’ll have Polly sit with him in Finn’s room.”
           Tommy’s jaw clenched but he could see that Charlie was cowering away from him. After a brief second of clarity, he removed his hand and stepped away from the door. Leah left the room before he changed his mind. She brought Charlie into Finn’s room and got him tucked in again.
           The little boy rubbed his eyes and pouted. “Daddy’s mad.”
           “No, poppet, he’s just stressed.” She smoothed the quilt over him, making sure he was warm enough and handed him his Teddy bear.
           “Wha’s that?” Charlie hugged the ted close, partially burying his face in the curly fur.
           Leah chewed on her lip. She wasn’t sure how to define the word. “It’s…it’s when you’re very sad and worried.”
           “Oh.” Charlie yawned again and could hardly keep his eyes open any longer. “Will he be happy soon?”
           “I hope so.” She whispered and kissed his forehead. “Now it's time to sleep. I'll stay and sing until you're dreaming." With a promise, she began singing again. "Gulls against the morning sunlight,” She brushed her hand over his blond hair and started the lullaby over again. No matter how many times, she would sing until he was asleep. “Flying off to freedom…Blow the wind, blow. Swift and low…”
~~~~~~~~~
           After Charlie fell asleep and she got Polly to sit up with him in Finn’s room, Leah returned to Tommy’s room. He had sat down on the bed but the gun was still in his hand. His thumb spinning the barrel. There was murder in his eyes. An obsessed fixation on getting retribution. Avenging both of his fallen brothers.
           Leah walked over to him and reached for the gun. He tensed up, his shoulder locking and pulling away from her. “Tommy, please just put it down.”
           Instead of facing her, he glanced over his shoulder and drew back the lace curtains. There were men flooding the lane. Soldiers armed and prepared to die for him. But Luca wouldn’t come tonight. No, there was already a plan. Tommy had constructed it. The Italians merely assumed they were the ones in control.
           Relenting, he handed Leah the gun. She made sure the chamber was empty and placed it on the dresser. Curiously, she opened the drawer that she had explored the night after their first date. She pushed aside the expensive ties and found his tags from the war. She traced his name in the tarnished circle of metal. “Why did you keep this but not any of your medals?” She turned and showed him the tag. “Ada said you were decorated.”
           He cleared his throat and pulled out a cigarette. “Didn’t want to lose my name. They stamped that and gave it to me before I left. Every time I could get some sleep, I checked to make sure it was the same. That it hadn’t changed. That’s all I had to remember the man I once was.”
           Leah nodded and placed the tag on the dresser next to the gun. “Tommy, I changed my name for you.” She took the cigarette from between his fingers and took a drag. He reached for it back but she tossed it into the ashtray. Looping her arms around his neck, she straddled his lap. Planted right in front of him, he didn’t have much of an option but to look at her.
           The touch seemed to relax him slightly and he wrapped his arms around her waist.
           “I’ve gone from Leah Ward to Leah Robinson, to Leah Ward-Robinson. Now I write Leah Shelby and I will do so until the day I die. I’ll never introduce myself any differently.”
           He lifted a hand to comb through her blonde hair.
           “Do you trust the woman who changed her name for you?”
           He nodded ever so slightly, a hint of curiosity in his eyes. To him, there wasn’t much rhyme or reason for her question. But he answered it honestly.
           “Then trust that you will win this war. You will come home to me and you’ll be free. That bastard won’t take any more lives. He’s the last person to die in this battle.”
           Tommy’s thumb grazed over her bottom lip. The amount of tension had been building up in the hour or so after the fight. And he was about to hit a boiling point.
           “Charlie fall asleep?”
           Leah nodded. “He was so tired, he went out pretty quickly.”
           “Will you be able to stay quiet?” His eyebrow raised.
           Leah’s pupils dilated and she immediately picked up on what he was implying. She mindlessly nodded again. Her eyes fixed on his lips.
           “You sure?”
           “Yes.” She breathed.
           Tommy picked her up and placed her on the desk, pushing the solid piece of furniture against the wall. He grabbed the nape of her neck and kissed her forcefully.
           Leah moaned and her knees tipped open so Tommy could step between them. “Tom…” She gasped out when he pulled away from her.
           “Sh…” He whispered and nibbled on her lower lip.
           She whimpered and knotted her fingers in his hair.
           Tilting back slightly he took in her flushed face. “Listen to me.” He commanded in a deep voice. “You’re mine, Mrs. Shelby. You’re mine and mine alone.”
           Leah’s lips parted and she tried to pull him in for another kiss. But he kept a hold on the back of her neck. She pouted. “And who do you belong to?” She replied.
           The scent of her perfume and her warmth had Tommy reeling. “Yours.”
           “Then show me.”
~~~~~~~~
           “Daddy…mumma.” The next morning, Charlie nudged open the door. Tommy was awake but Leah was still fast asleep, curled up under his arm. Luckily, she’d donned Tommy’s shirt before they went to bed so there was no reason to turn Charlie away.
           “C’mere.” Tommy smiled and beckoned him over.
           His son crawled up onto the bed and immediately went to wedge himself between Tommy and Leah. But he stopped him. “Don’t wake mumma.” He picked Charlie up and set him down on the other side so he didn’t disturb Leah. “Didya sleep in Uncle Finn’s room last night?”
           “Yeah,” Charlie answered quietly and cuddled up to Tommy’s chest. A little hand stretched over to touch Leah’s shoulder. Content and feeling safe, the little boy smiled and closed his eyes again.
           He gently rubbed his back, holding his son and wife close. It was a moment of peace before the inevitable storm that was due.
~~~~~~
           If Leah were in the right state of mind, she might’ve noticed the stark differences between John and Arthur’s funerals. Polly, Linda, and Tommy all acted solemn, but there was something slightly off. But Leah didn’t pick up on any of it. Instead, she joined the mourners in the field. Ready to send off another Shelby in smoke.
           After placing a flower on the ornately decorated vardo, she stood beside Tommy, wrapping a comforting arm around him.
           He kissed her temple. “S’alright.”
           “Tom!” Someone called out, alerting something was wrong.
           Leah looked across the field to see an older woman she didn’t recognize. It could’ve been a distant relative or perhaps someone from another Traveler family come to pay their respects. But this woman was holding a white flag as she approached the funeral slowly.
           Tommy slipped away from Leah and held out a hand to put everyone at ease. “Let her come.” Then he addressed the woman. “Until we’re finished.” He spoke cryptically before returning to Leah’s side.
           The woman backed up a few steps and waited. Her eyes were cold on the group of mourners. Her distaste for each and every one of them was clear. But her body language was passive. There would be no attack brought on by this woman.
           Still, it raised alarms for Leah. “Who is that?” She whispered to her husband.
           “Luca Changretta’s mother.” He answered honestly.
           “What?” She hissed in response, her guard instantly going up again. “What is she doing here and why did you let her even come near?”
           He hushed her softly. “She’s not looking to harm anyone, merely looking to settle a vendetta.”
~~~~~~~~
           Charlie banged on the window with his open palm. “Outside!”
           Leah sighed and scooped him up. “Not now, poppet. We need to stay inside.” She nuzzled his cheek but the little boy squirmed in her arms. He’d been cooped up all day under the orders of Tommy. The man couldn’t risk anything until his plan went through.
           “Wanna go outside!” The famous Shelby temper was beginning to show as she brought him away from the window.
           Leah could reassure Tommy that he was in control but she had to face facts. There was no telling what was to come. Would a bullet come flying through the window, hitting Charlie? Would men break down the door and assault them? Had they laid an explosive somewhere and a certain movement would trigger it?
           Being inside all day had begun to wear Leah down as well as she was only left with Charlie and her anxious thoughts.
           “C’mon, love, I’ll make you lunch-”
           The door burst open and Leah jolted. The fears that had been weighing her mind down jumped to life. She shielded Charlie but only for a moment until Tommy’s familiar voice called out.
           “Leah?”
           She exhaled in relief and set down Charlie so the little boy could run to his father. Steadying her racing heart, she picked up the book she had been reading out loud to try and entertain Charlie. She came out into the hall and startled.
           Arthur was standing in the doorway with Tommy. He smiled sheepishly. “Hello, sister.”
           Leah dropped the book and froze. “Wh-how? You said-”
           “I’ll explain everything,” Tommy promised. “But for now, we can pack our things for Arrow House.”
           Two more shocks hit Leah. There was a small cut on his neck from an obvious struggle and he had said they were able to return to Warwickshire. “I don’t understand…” She couldn't decide what to ask first. How in the world his dead brother was standing at the door? What had happened since he'd left that morning? Were they safe in Warwickshire?
           He walked over to kiss her cheek. “It’s over.”
           “Over.” She repeated dumbfounded.
           A small smile on his face told her everything. The man hell bent on destroying the Shelby family was dead. Never had Leah been relieved another human was dead. “Once we’re back at Arrow House, I’ll make arrangements for the wedding.” He tucked a stray curl behind her ear, his blue eyes fond on her. "And we'll have the family we're meant to have."
           Leah let out a noise of joyful disbelief. “Really?” She threw her arms around him.
           Tommy lifted her off the ground, supporting her with strong arms wrapped around her waist. He felt like the door of the jail cell had opened and all of them were finally released. Able to step out into the sun again, leave Birmingham without fear, and return to a normal existence.
           Or as normal as life could be for them. Because Tommy was still looking forward. Looking towards the possibilities, the opportunities, the places he could claim. The thrones that were up for grabs.
CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE
The soft stomps of your boots carry you down the hallway towards Rey’s quarters, you can’t help but grow nervous. You're confused as to why she sat down next to you at dinner the night before. She tried to help you when something was stirring in the Force, making your ears ring uncontrollably.
Rey told you to meditate to calm yourself and your power made you rise from the ground. Poe had brought you back to your room and now she wants you to meet her this morning. Although the negative memories of her on the Star Destroyer still plays in your mind.
Once you reach her door, your knuckles comes up to softly knock on the metal. It opens, but she is sitting across the room scanning through a book on her lap. “Come in.” She says. With a hesitant step, you move through the doorway and then the door shuts behind you.
Her eyes peek up at you, her wide smile showing as she stands and runs to you. Her arms engulf you in a hug as she rests her chin in the crook of your neck. “I’m sorry.” Her voice cracks as it comes out, she is obviously upset. You can’t help but hug her back just as tight.
You both stand there holding each other as tears flow freely down each other’s cheeks. It is almost like the Force was mending your relationship with her. She slowly pulls away to wipe under her eyes, “I’ve been looking through Master Luke’s books.” Her accent spills out as she walks over to the scribbled novel.
“Supposedly you can float or rise from the ground during deep meditation,” She mumbles, her index finger running over the words. “It helps increase your power and strengthen your sense of the Force.” She taps the page, smiling as she looks at you.
“I’ve done it once before. I was meditating purposely, although i wasn't floating on purpose. Kylo walked in on me. That was when I found Leia.” You rub your temple as you walk towards her to look at the book.
“I’ve been trying to train myself, with Leia’s help, of course, to be a Jedi. It’s quite challenging.” She states as she closes the book and lays it in a bin with the others.
“A Jedi? Doesn’t that mean you’ll be the last one?” Your eyes widen in surprise.
“Yes... Unless Ben Solo decides to return, but I’m not sure how that would be handled.” She runs her fingers over the pages. “You’re against Jedi’s now aren’t you?” She glances up at you.
“Not exactly. I never really had an opinion on them.” You shrug. “I guess that’s better than hating them right?” She laughs softly and you just nod with a smile.
“In those books, is there anything about uh... Force connections or hallucinations?” You mumble as you take a step forward with your eyes on the worn books. “Like a Force Bond?” She asks like she knows what you’re talking about. “Yes, that.”
“You have one with him don’t you?” She walks up to you, her eyes wide with curiosity.
“I do. With Kylo, I see him a lot.” You look up at her and you can see the sympathy on her face.
“It’s not an hallucination. It’s the Force connecting you both. I used to have one with him but I severed it on Crait. I haven’t felt his presence since then.” You felt a pang of jealousy in your chest.
Kylo had this bond with Rey too?
You shake away that feeling as Rey brings you to sit down, “Let’s talk more.” Her hand rests on your upper back as she leads you to sit down.
-
You and Rey talk for a very long time, mostly about what happened while you were with the First Order. Leia ends up interrupting to remind you about your check-up at the med-bay.
Rey and Leia tag along, walking with you down the cold hallways. When you lay down on the bed the nurse rubs a wand on your abdomen that shows the child on the screen. “I see here that you’re actually carrying two.” The nurse says as he points at the black and white screen.
“Like twins?” You croak out, your hand going over your mouth in disbelief. Leia was shocked as well, usually, she can feel those kinds of things in the Force. “Just like my brother and me.” She says as she takes your hand. “We will help you with everything along the way.” She looks up at Rey and she also nods to reassure you.
-
Rey and Leia leave you to walk back to your room since they both have other matters to attend to. It was quite nice to have Rey back in your life again. She’s gonna be a great aunt— You almost laugh out loud at the thought.
As you walk into your shared quarters, you see that Poe is sitting at the desk with a datapad in his hand, BB-8 is right next to him and Kaydel is sitting on his bed reading a book with the door wide open.
“Hi.” You simply say to him with a small wave in front of his eyes, “Oh hey.” He glances up at you for a moment before going back to concentrating on whatever he is doing.
“I’ve been trying to get him off of that thing but he’s doing important business.” She shrugs and motions for you to come into his room.
Hesitatingly, you move forward and past the doorframe. Your eyes take in the space, it’s just all Poe. It looks just like yours, with the bed and wardrobe but he had Resistance memorabilia hanging on the walls. Like torn fabric from an old Republic jacket, his helmet and his own fighter gear hanging up on hooks.
Kaydel interrupts your gazing eyes, “Can I ask you a question?” She sits up on the bed, her eyes are fixed on you. She seems too serious.
You shrug, not really knowing what it was going to be about.
“What was it like to live with the First Order like one of them?” She asks, making you grimace on the inside. What a random question. “It was fine? A hardworking environment. A bit tense at times.” Your fingers toy with some of the clutter on Poe’s dresser.
“Were you really Kylo Ren’s apprentice? What is he like when it’s only you two together?” You can feel your insides heating up with anger, she’s just trying to bring up the past; she knows the answers to these questions.
“Does he live up to his title? Is he as monstrous behind closed doors as he is depicted to be? Oh wait, I saw his true colors when he interrogated me after being captured. I can say that he is as despicable as everyone thinks.” She spits out like venom was seething from her mouth.
As she opens her mouth to say more to you, your hand comes up to silence her. Her lips automatically shut from the Force. “Don’t you dare speak any more about him. You don’t even know him.” You growled, your whole face is twisted in disgust. “You don’t know what he’s been through. You have no idea.” Her hands scrambled to her throat, pulling at an unseen hand that was muting her voice box. BB-8 rolls up next to you, beeping at you to stop but you ignore the droid.
A strong arm wraps around your waist and tugs you back, causing you to let go of her throat. “You dark scum!” She screams, voice hoarse.
“What are you doing?!” Poe is screaming at you now as he almost throws you out of the room. “You could have killed her!” His finger is pointing at you sternly.
“Poe! She was trying to get under my skin! She was bringing up Ren!” You retaliated, “And no! I couldn’t have killed her, I wasn’t choking her. I just had a hold on her voice so she would just shut the hell up!” You throw your hands up in the air.
His bedroom door closes from her slamming it, “You cannot use the Force on her! Well for one, you can’t use it out of anger. And two, you can’t use it on your friends! What is wrong with you?!” Once those words left his mouth, your mouth shuts and you go silent. He realizes what he just said, he goes to apologize but you pull away. “Don’t.”
You walk over to your bedroom door and disappear behind it and lean against the door once it’s closed. You take deep shaky breaths to try and control your emotions but it doesn’t work. Your hand goes to your mouth as you weep silently— Hot tears stream down your face. You lost your temper, you didn’t want to hurt anyone. Especially Poe, you didn’t want him to think differently of you.
After you calm down a bit, you stand to your feet to change into some warm pajamas. Hopefully, you can sleep away the memories of today.
-
When you wake up, it isn’t by choice. Someone is pushing your body quite rough trying to wake you up. The room is dark, at first you thought it was Kylo but he wouldn’t wake you up like that. “What?” You snapped, eyes still closed.
“Come train with me.” It’s Rey, “I think you’ll really benefit from this lesson.” She whispers and her hand drops from your arm.
You open your eyes with a groan but she wasn’t in front of you. “Meet me in the hallway near my room. I’ll bring you to where I train.” Her voice is in her head, you could swear she was right there.
Once you get up and get dressed, you pull your boots on your feet and zip them up. You wrap the black tunic around your neck that you stole from Kylo. You sneak out into the dark living area and into the vacant hallways.
The chilly air around you made you shiver, it was much warmer in the rooms as they have more heating and insulation.
Your hand rests on your belly as your feet bring you around a few bends until you see Rey down the hall. She jogs over to you excitedly, her staff hanging on her back. It reminds you of your own that you left behind.
She can tell you’re getting distracted by it, “Come with me. You’ll really love the view.” She motions with her head to follow. Rey weaves and bobs down the hallways until she makes it to a man-made stone staircase that leads to who knows where.
“It’s just up here.” She begins to climb, her legs moving faster than yours can as she skips some steps. Once you both make it to the top, your eyes scan the area. The walls are made of ice, the rising sun flowing through the chunks causing a blue glow to light up the area.
“It’s a bit cold, but you get used to it. It’s a really good area to train. Especially meditate. It’s such a different climate from Jakku. I actually don’t mind the cold.” She rambles as she lays out her supplies; Her staff, a book, and Luke Skywalkers lightsaber. “It’s really beautiful up here. Thank you for showing me this.” Your eyes focus on the saber and she notices how you’re eyeing it.
“Leia lets me borrow it to train. Hopefully, I can make my own someday.” She smiles. “You ready?” She asks as she opens up the Jedi book. “After I trained with Master Luke on Ahch-To, I discovered so many things. I have never been more focused or in touch with the Force.” She runs her fingers over the pages as she flips through to find something. You never got to see her after she left to find him only because you were left on Crait.
“Ah, meditating. Here we are. We’re gonna float together but purposely this time.”
She sits down on the stone ground and you copy her. You shiver from the cold seeping through your pants as you criss-cross your legs and close your eyes.
She puts her hand on the ground, “Feel the energy. The balance. The peace and the violence.” Her thick accent murmurs into the cold air, “Find the balance.”
Pictures appear in your mind as you channel the Force. Animals, the hidden parts in the dark places of ice caverns, death, family and friends...
You gasp in awe when you see the sunrise and the multiple moons beginning to fade from the sky. Visions flipped through your brain, almost like you are seeing the frozen planet from another perspective. The snow is glistening and beautiful but it’s still so cold, the animals are prancing around but the circle of life still continues.
Your eyes slowly open and for a moment you think nothing has changed but you both are floating. There are stray rocks and chunks of ice in the air, the lightsaber, and the books. Her eyes open when she notices you looking around and she smiles so wide.
“It worked!” She laughs as she gently floats back to the ground and onto her feet. Her hand reaches out to catch a falling rock in her hand and she tosses it around. You slowly come back down to the ground and onto your feet, your body feels light and renewed.
“You’re more than welcome to stay while I train with the saber.” She says as she summons it to her hand and turns it on.
Your eyes focus on the bright blue hue, the calming sound of the saber was different from Kylo’s. It was almost soothing. “I think I’m gonna grab a bite to eat actually. Thank you. I’ll see you later, Rey.” You wave as you start to go back down the steps.
You follow the hallways with a smile on your face and a bounce in your step, one of your hands rest on your belly as you greet everyone good morning. It is quite busy at sunrise for some reason. They look slightly confused but they still greet you with the same attitude.
You imagine doing this on the Star Destroyer, the thought makes you laugh because everyone was too serious to smile on that ship.
Once you make it to your quarters, you walk in and see that Poe’s bedroom door was wide open and so was yours. You couldn’t have been gone for more than thirty minutes? You didn’t think he would’ve woken up this early.
You walk back out into the hallway and to the commissary to see if Poe was there. It was practically empty, the food was being turned from breakfast to lunch. You could tell by how the droids and people were preparing it.
You make your way over to the hangar, the doors open and it’s an instant rush of cold air. Your breath comes out in puffs as you look around for his X-wing, spotting the orange and white droid you smile. Then Poe’s bright jumpsuit as slides out from underneath his ship.
You slowly make your way over to him, your arms crossed with your hands under them to keep warm. “Hi.” You interrupt his work, his eyes look at you then back at the wires and back at you. “You’re alive? I had no idea where you went.” He sighs. He lays down his tools and wipes his gloves off on his pants.
Poe pulls you into an unexpected hug, “I was honestly worried. Especially after everything that happened last night. I went to go check with Leia but she hasn’t hear from you or Rey.” He pulls away only slightly, “You’re okay? They’re okay?” He asks looking down at your belly then back up at you, his famous smile showcases his dimple.
“Never better.” You grin as you go in for one more hug.
