I have mixed feelings abt genderbends for various reasons, but one thing I rly hate is that some ppl don’t get that being gnc (or even sometimes gc, i.e. leather daddies, or femmes dressing “tacky”/“weird” on purpose) is a way of flagging for gay ppl and that those choices are often extremely intentional.

That’s why I don’t like what of the It fandom does with Reddie a lot of the times bc it’s like I keep seeing this thing where ppl are like “Richie is the boy one and Eddie is the girl one” when there’s a much better discussion to be had about how the extremely psychology + characterization-driven story of It might affect the characters’ relationships to expression and presentation

Anyway this is a long, roundabout way of saying that I think lesbian Eddie would be butch and lesbian Richie would be femme

oh yeah fem reddie is soo silly and cute and fun until you think about how misogyny and lesbiphobia+ comphet would fundamentally change their characters. people say the most utterly repulsive stuff about lesbians and WOMEN from young ages, imagine how richie would feel insecure in her femininity because of frequent comments on it, that “careful she might be a lesbian” and how by crushing on eddie she’d feel like *she* were the virus, she’s the one infecting what is pure, innocent, normal!!!!! (because let’s be real richie is the typa lesbian to view girls as some sort of ethereal beings) not knowing how much affection is too much affection because girls are usually touchy but she doesn’t want to come across as a creep—and how people would probably say foul, foul things about her, her looks and how she’s unfixable, and sexual commentary directed at her that most girls are exposed to at far too young

its kinda weird watching something with canonically gay characters when im used to having to make them gay myself.

I feel like Eddie would sit his kids down to tell the 9 season story of how he met their mother. Meanwhile, the entire time, the kids think that he's talking about their biological mom only to get to the end, and he was talking about Steve, their other dad.
