Doing the maths: Grian's failure at getting a mending book

lots of talk about maths and probabilities below the cut! but there's a graph and simple explanation at the end if you want to get the gist of it and are bad at maths.

(I am still young and learning maths, critique/advice always welcomed)

What are the odds of getting a mending book in Minecraft?

(I am assuming Grian has been doing all his fishing with Luck of the Sea 3)

The probability of a mending book is actually a bit annoying to estimate. The Minecraft Wiki lists fishing up an enchanted book as 1.9% chance. This is for ANY enchanted book. The Minecraft wiki talks about how the chance of an enchantment being selected is calculated. Mending has a weight of 2. Using the table, mending has a probability of 2/135.

However, Grian is looking for any book with mending, not just a pure mending book. Additional enchantments are calculated in a different way, involving RNG, which means it won't be as easy to model. Due to this reason, I'll just be using the odds for a pure mending book throughout.

TLDR: a mending book has a 0.028..% chance (2/135*0.019*100)

Grian's Data

According to this screenshot, Grian has used a fishing rod 5679 times. This number may not be fully accurate, as it includes the times he's fished other players, rather than just fished for items, but it is a good estimate.

To help visualise this data, with a median waiting time between catches of 17.5 seconds, Grian has spent over 20 hours fishing so far! He may have a problem.

Is this statistically significant?

Hypothesis testing (p-value approach):

H0: p = 19/67500 (the null hypothesis - he has no mending books because of chance)

H1: p < 19/67500 (the alternate hypothesis - he has no mending books due to different odds)

5679 trials, 0 mending books

X ~ B(5679, 19/67500) (binomial distribution, 5679 tries with a probability of a mending book being 19/67500, where X is the number of mending books)

p(X=0) (what is the probability the number of mending books being 0)

p = 0.2021473392

Now, the point at which data becomes significant is subjective. For instance, you *could* get a million heads in a row flipping a coin, it's not impossible, but at a certain point, you can begin to say "okay there's something not normal about this". For this approach, the closer the p-value is to 0, the more evidence there is against the null hypothesis . The p-value here is far above a significance level of 0.01, or 0.05, or 0.1. There isn't a clear line between significant/non-significant, but this is answer is quite a bit far from 0

With this, I cannot reject the null hypothesis.

Personal conclusion: this is not statistically significant, Grian is just unlucky.

Are other values statistically significant?

Gem's proposed 9000: results in a p-value of 0.079... more significant than Grian's number but I don't imagine Mojang would be too concerned. As said though, it's all subjective.

I am bad at maths, what does all this mean?

Here is a graph, showing what number of mending books you might have after 5679 tries. The height of the bar represents the probability of getting that amount. The numbers at the top are the (rounded) numbers I used in my calculation

The pink column is 0 mending books - like what Grian has! As you can see, it is less likely than getting 1 or 2 books, but not too uncommon to happen.

End conclusion: Grian has bad luck. Like, not as hilariously bad as he thinks, but still bad. If he keeps going, chances are he will get a mending book, but I think he should probably stop fishing because at this point he has a problem.

In Mash and Finn’s dorm the boys were discussing as per usual when suddenly an unusual question popped

Dot, who still didn’t understand why Mashle was having all the girls’ attention asked “So Mashle how is it going between you and Lemon ?”

Finn and Lance’s heads snapped towards Mashle waiting for him to answer the redhead

But Mashle’s face only became cuter as his big eyes blinked slowly “Huh ?” ( it sounds like the Villager in Minecraft )

Finn mused “Yes she seems so infatuated with you”

But Mashle still looked out of it

Lance continued “Don’t tell me you didn’t notice ?”

But before the raven haired boy could even ask further Dot chipped in “Just give her some love man or I will !”

“I can’t give her love. I have to keep some for Y/n” he said plunging the room into a heavy silence

“What are you saying ?” Lance asked, visibly not knowing anything in this matter

“I can’t love cream puffs, Y/n and Lemon all together. Besides I don’t love Lemon”

Finn’s eyes widened “But she is your friend, isn’t she ?”

“Yes, only a friend. That’s why don’t love her”

The boys were choked. Did that mean that he loved you ? A fall a questions suddenly dropped on Mashle who was munching on a cream puff he just took out of his pocket

“Don’t you have enough to steal all the girls ?!?”

“So you guys are dating now ?”

“Are you even sure to know what love is ?”

After a moment Mashle looked at them “What ? I couldn’t hear anything when I was chewing” he casually said

The two boys exhaled heavily while Lance facepalmed

Suddenly the door opened, revealing your smaller form as you stepped in your boyfriend’s dorm “Oh hello y’all. I didn’t think I’d find you all gathered here today”

Dot couldn’t take it anymore “What ?!? Did he ask you to come knowing you both would be here all alone ?!?”

“Erm no hehe” you bashfully answered. But Mashle seemed not to care “Yes”

“Not in our dorm” almost squeaked Finn who was heavily blushing

“I only have one bed” he simply answered as if he didn’t just say something big

They continued to knock him with more questions but Mashle didn’t even seem to listen. He was digging in his pockets to give you a cream puff as well

Then as Mashle opened his mouth the boys finally thought that their questions will get their answers

“Lance, where did you find that necklace you have ? I’d like to have one as well to put a photo of Y/n eating a cream puff in it”

“H-HE DIDN’T EVEN ANSWER !” they screamed altogether but Mashle couldn’t care less

With his arm wrapped around your waist he gently nudged you outside the dorm before he added “We’re going to buy more cream puffs. I hope you won’t be there when we’ll get back”

the moment that absolutely no one has been waiting for... here are the results of the dtblr survey that went out last week! Thank you to the 650 people who responded, easily eclipsing the 598 responses that were submitted in September :]

Starting out, we have a newcomer to our top 8, welcome Awesamdude, who stole a spot from Quackity (20.7% -> 3.1%). Since the last survey, more people say they main all 3 Dream Team members and less people are maining their friends, most of them slipping under 10% of respondents saying they mained them save for the lovely Foolish Gamers.

Next, there was an increase in people who came for and still are here for the Dream Team—with a decrease in the proportion of respondents for nearly every other category. Dream team forever!

While most people (85%) have been around before 2022, we have a greater proportion of newer people around now! In the last survey, that number was even greater at 93%. So don't feel bad for being new, it's actually way more likely than you think, and a very warm welcome to the 5% of people who joined after the face reveal/meetup <3

Next is a question that I think is really interesting: has watching the Dream team influenced how people play Minecraft? More people now don't play as much, which tracks considering that they play Minecraft a lot less than they used to.

Now for a rather sore subject for a lot of people, since there's been quite a shift in who plays in MCC since the last time. In the last poll, 60.8% of people said they watched Dream. Now, those viewers have dispersed across creators or just stopped watching altogether, with both George and Sapnap gaining 10% from their numbers in the fall. However, 25% of people said that they don't watch anymore, a huge jump from the 4.5% in the fall. RIP MCC Dream, you're missed severely by the community <3

Next up, Trust Issues has managed to nearly catch up to some of Dream's released music, gaining 8 percentage points from the last survey. Dream if you're out there your fans want it really badly. Release it just for us?

Since the fall, we've seen the official end of the DSMP, so this is more of a legacy question, which is reflected pretty well in the statistics shifting towards people who either don't watch or are very casual about it, our lorehead population shrinking by 4 percentage points from the first survey.

These statistics haven't moved too much since the first one, the trends going pretty much as predicted with following decreasing from main -> alt -> priv (with the exception of Dream whose alt is often confused for his main) and with George and Sapnap having fewer people following them than Dream.

The statistics shift from this question is really interesting, especially given all the shit that's gone down on Twitter since the first survey. The percentage of dtblr who joined the fandom on there increased 7.7%, a gain that knocked down nearly every other platform's percentages. AO3 also makes its debut in the top 6, tying with Reddit exactly.

Much like the twitter following question, these statistics didn't shift too much, with the YouTube algorithm and word of mouth from other people/creators doing most of the heavy lifting of marketing for the Dream Team. Shoutout to the people who found out through either Heat Waves or MrBeast, you guys are on like 2 ends of a horrific spectrum y'all are strong as hell LOL

Now for some shared fandom trauma, these results also didn't change too much from the first survey. However, for this iteration I added Supernatural, as I probably should've done the first time considering this IS the SPN website after all. I managed to grab a few more people than last time out of the 'none of the above' category with its inclusion, so hi all my former and current SPN bloggers o/ <- has never seen the show before

A vast majority of us have watched gaming content in some form before, and fewer people this time have never watched gaming content before. From those who specified which games they'd watched, the titles ranged far and wide, so it's really cool to see all of us under the dtblr umbrella :)

Once again, this question showcases how lurkers truly carry the community on their backs—there's a small decrease in lurkers from last time and an increase in blogging answers, so it seems like some of our lurkers started posting which is awesome :D

Over half of us don't really watch any other MC servers, but there's still a ton of people who like watching them! From the last time I ran the survey, most of the servers—save for Empires and Karmaland—now have fewer dtblr watchers. The QSMP makes a strong debut on the board though, eclipsing half of the other options.

This was a really interesting question, though it seems like the vast majority of people either continued posting on the same blog or took a break and just jumped back into the fray! Also a late welcome to the ~15% of people who either weren't here or started posting after <3

The answers to this question showed some of the most interesting shifts from last fall's data. Fewer people seem to be listening regularly, and the proportion of people who responded no is nearly doubled from the fall's 21%.

These data points were also really interesting to see shift from the fall! Of note, fewer people like and tolerate Jackbox, and more people seem to have warmed up to FPS games—Fortnite, CS:GO, and Valorant all have fewer people in the "don't like & won't watch" category. Still, Valorant is easily the most hated game of the 6 while Geoguessr is still almost universally loved/tolerated.

As expected in the shipping category, DNF dominates any other ships, with Karlnap easily taking the second place. The proportion of Toosh enjoyers has doubled since the fall, up from 14.7%, while the number of non-shippers has halved. Additionally, the proportion of Karlnapity enjoyers has plummeted from 25.4% to less than 10%. Otherwise, most ships have stayed within 3-4 percentage points of their fall numbers!

Once again, Dream seems to have forced the hands of nearly half of us, turning non-RPF shippers into the RPF fandom we are today. Interestingly, the number of "yes" respondents has nearly doubled from the fall, while fewer people responded that they still don't ship RPF. As would make Dream happy probably, the pie chart is colored blue and green.

Now onto some of the demographic questions, we've continued to be very heavily biased towards North America and Europe, with nearly 85% of us coming from those two continents. Compared to the fall, we've gotten proportionally more South American and Oceanian rep. Hey to the Asians/Australians who are probably going to see this when it's first posted! o/

Once again, the majority of us seem to be around the same age as our streamers, with 80% of us falling between the ages of 18 and 30. Don't fret, though! From the fall, the proportion of respondents in both the <18 and >30 age brackets have increased. All in all, nothing too surprising.

The pride parade is still running from last fall, with approximately the same percentage of people identifying as LGBTQIA+ or unsure. Just in time for pride month in a day or so!

I'm not sure if I was just miscounting but I could not for the life of me get all of these little squares into a proper rectangle, so just bear with my weird organization here. Regardless, the majority of us rep the blue and green as our favorite colors, with multiple people specifying the hex code of George's minecraft shirt or a classic teal.

It's been about a month since this has been out, and we still unfortunately haven't gotten It Takes Two back. We're still in the phase 42% of people believe that we're going to stay in for a while, getting bounced back and forth between Dream and George hoping that they can get the other wrangled for it. #I_BELIEVE!

This was kind of a cruel question for most of us, but to the 11 people who answered that have met any of them, know that you're in a very select group of users. I'm jealous!

Now to answer the age-old question of the dtblr 1%, it constitutes those of you with around or over 5,000 followers, while a majority of people have less than 50 followers or just no blog at all. As with most other follower polls I've seen floating around, the responses were heavier towards the bottom, but as is the common advice/adage, follower count means very little here—just start chatting and posting!

For the final question, I thought it'd be interesting to see what dtblr's academic interests are, and also to reaffirm or break my belief that George is like a flame to the moths of CS/Engineering-focused people, which was at least initially supported by the data from the fall. We've got people from all across the diversity of academic fields, with the most people indicating that they're interested in the arts and humanities.

As for my hypothesis: among non-George mains, the proportion of CS/Engineering people is about 5.5%, whereas 18.3% of George mains indicated that they're interested in CS/Engineering. In fact, I took a closer look at all the people who noted their interest in CS/Engineering, and nearly 70% of them said that they mained George. Like I said, moths to a flame. or something. I'm right there with y'all 🫡

ive been enabled so let me share some of my thoughts on how to get ur art noticed online

if u want Engagement on ur posts then i believe that its critical to make people care about ur art. the easiest way to do this is to appeal to something they already care about, like fandom, aesthetics/subculture, current events, having fun (people love humor!). a harder but perhaps more fulfilling route is to talk about ur own ocs and projects enough until people start caring about them too

theres an infinite amount of topics people care about out there so id suggest picking something u already care about urself and channel ur art energy there. trying to make art for the most popular things out there regardless own interests is an exercise in misery, id advise against it..! if im allowed to get superstitious for a moment, i do believe that even untrained eyes can tell whether a piece of art was fun to work on or a chore. and besides! if ur having fun then its easier to create more, and the more u create the more chances ull have at getting lucky and having a post seen :)

on a very related note, art is a way to communicate ideas so the quality of the idea being presented in a piece of art is paramount to how popular a post will be. what i mean by this is that technical skill isnt the primary determinant of a posts popularity. if all your posts are portraits of original characters then people will have a hard time connecting with your posts and theyll keep scrolling, even if those portraits are masterpieces! the major exception to this is probably other artists, who ive found usually have a greater appreciation for the technical side of art (we can only speculate as to why..!)

lemme finish by saying that making popular posts and being good at art are two entirely different skillsets, ive seen many incredibly skilled artists with jack shit for notes because they dont give people a reason to care about their stuff NOT TO MENTION its a huge game of luck whether a post will get seen. so dont go insane in pursuit of recognition!

(i dont want to make this post too long so ive included examples from my own art and their note counts with my analysis after the break)

hello and welcome to the extracurricular segment to this post :) i bring yall two pieces from my art blog @werewolf-artfriend:

here we have a portrait of my fursona that im still proud of and a sketch suggesting "what if sniffers (from minecraft) were the size of mountains?" (let it be noted that the sniffer sketch was posted right during the minecraft mob vote = peak interest in the subject of sniffers).

the portrait at the time of writing has a crisp 30 notes, whilst the sniffer sketch has over 2000 notes. from the same artist, on the same blog, posted only a few months apart. i believe this is a good example both of the power of a piece of art having an interesting idea at its core AND of a piece appealing to the interests of the masses

this is of course just two convenient example posts, but i have experienced fan art of popular topics getting thousands of notes a couple of times now, amidst my other furry shit that these days get around 200-300 notes in comparison

this may sound like a really long winded way of saying "fan art make the world go round" but i just want to point out the nuances that

1) it matters what u make fan art of: if a fandom is small or dormant (waiting on new canon content for example) then clearly less people will be excited about the fan art you make. dont expect 10k notes on ur post if the average recent post in the fandom gets around 200 etc etc

2) it doesnt have to be fan art! ive also had some of my bird art get thousands of notes because people simply like birds :) and this applies to ANY topic people care about! the world rly is your oyster on this one

anyway i think ive started rambling dhgdjhgd thanks if u read this far! i hope i got my point across! and if ur feeling down about ur art not being seen then just keep at it okay! keep creating and keep having fun! keep sharing ur ideas and perspectives with the world and ur audience will eventually find u! i love you!

Missa's deaths in ME (Minecraft Extremo)

(This was a 2 weeks series, he survived for 5 days until he lost his 3 lives, he survive with 1 life for 3 days.)

1st Death: Creeper (pushed him out the water and fell).

Missa, rubius and quackity were in a cave and quackity was messaging shadoune.

Shadoune: "Are you looking for caves?"

Quackity: "Looking for caves with rubius and missa"

Missa: *Dies*

Quackity: "Well with rubius"

2nd Death: Enderman (He didn't know that he shouldn't see the enderman).

The team was together

Rubius: "I'm going to try to kill this enderman"

Spreen: "No, it's boss, he has powers"

Missa: *Looks at it and the enderman starts chasing him*

Spreen: "Who look at the enderman?"

Missa: *Dies*

And guess what happend! he saw another enderman at spawn!! it was so funny from spreen pov, missa walking fast because he couldn't run while he screamed "I'm gonna die!" and the enderman behind him. XDDDD

(He's team were waiting for him at the entrance, but spreen decided to look for him.)

2.5 Death: The admins put a zombie in missa's cage, but he lagged so it didn't count. (The admins can spawn mobs if the players are just chilling)

His teammates built a cage for missa to protect him when he was left with one life, he had an opening so he can fish.

They had already made a grave for him.

"Missa, 2023, was left without a symphony" (Pun?: sinfonia=symphony).

They were acting as if missa was still dead.

Rub and sp: "This is your fault quackity, you leave him alone!"

Missa: "I am alive!"

Quackity: "Why did you cage him?... I still see him!"

Rubius: "I still hear him"

Spreen: "Let's put the day he died."

Quackity: "Tree seconds of silence, 1,2,3"

Missa: *Stands infront of his dead body*

Quackity: "Hey dude! move away, you are infront of our friend!"

Missa: "Oh! Sorry, sorry"

Rub, sp and q: *arguing who let missa die*

Shadoune: *to missa* "Welcome back"

Missa: "Thank you, shadoune"

And 3rd Death: Witch (he left fighting and protecting his teammate o7).

This was a silent death.

Spreen saw a clip of missa tanking zombies, eating a enchanted apple, saying that he did well (missa was so happy) so he gave him another one, he had that apple in his inventory but didn't use it. )8

Shadoune and Quackity made a homage, "MissaSinfonia 'The most crazy, ready to fight and badass'" (this is the closest I could think of a translation for that sign).

Shadoune: "Who are we gonna adopt now?"

Spreen: "No, we are not gonna adopt anyone, we adopt and then I am the one to suffer"

(They do adopt other friend of them.)

Fun Facts?:

Their team name was "Vacio Legal"/"Legal Void" (They found legal loopholes in the regulations).

Missa died 3 times in front of spreen (enderman, zombie and the witch).

He even came up with the idea to mix the groups. So about a year ago, we posted a video on his channel; “Minecraft Manhunt Two Speedrunners VS Ten Hunters”. We were going 2 vs 2 with the wins. So either party had to win the last match and they would win in total.

Who would have guessed, Dream and I ended up winning the last one. Which happened 3 months ago. We only won because of me I might add. Dream ended up dying just before we killed the dragon. I was expecting contact to fade when we were done with all the videos. Though, to my surprise that wasn’t the case. We still texted and even called. We talked almost every day. I really liked our friendship. But I hated to admit it.

I was falling for him. Hard. I would like for us to be more if I was honest. Sure, I had no idea what he looked like - tho I was going to find out soon - but he was such a sweetheart. “Alright, it’s covered,” peeking through my fingers slightly. The screen is black beside the buttons. I quickly put him on speaker. Giving my camera a look for my stupidity. Squeezing my eyes shut I shake my head softly.

“Okay, I’m ready,” I tell Clay.

“Really, you’re still keeping your eyes closed?” he asks chuckling in disbelief.

“Dream! Don’t judge me!” I whine getting another laugh from him.

“Alright, I’ll just stay here, waiting,” I hear a thunk like he put his phone down on something. Out of curiosity, I open one eye just enough to check my phone. A slight pout on his face catches my eye. An audible gasp leaves my lips. I open both eyes and just stare at him. Mouth agape. He was looking away slightly. After hearing my gasp he looks back at the screen. His pout fading into a smile.

“No,” is the first coherent word that comes out. Clay shakes his head, chuckling softly as I stare at him. Frozen in my spot.

“What’s that supposed to mean!”

“You’re fucking gorgeous!” I say before my thoughts could catch up. A blush almost instantly flushed my cheeks. His cheeks seem to tint a little pink as well at my outburst. “I mean! No! You can’t be this beautiful!” I try to recover and find confidence in what I’m saying. A bright smile takes place on Clay’s face. He is sitting more relaxed in his gaming chair. It was then that I notice he had set his phone up on his desk. Either sitting on something or leaning against something. Letting out little confused noises, I lean forward in my gaming chair. Left elbow on my knee, head resting on my left hand. My right hand holding my phone. I wasn’t sure if I was still in frame of my camera but I couldn’t care less at this point.

“Good,” he grins.

“Who else have you called?” I decide to ask.

“You are actually the first I called today, others were a little busy at this time.”

“Woah, I wasn’t even your first pick, I’m offended!” I tell him loudly, tho there is obvious sarcasm in my voice. “Bye!” I fake hanging up. Noting that that’s where I should cut the video before posting it on Twitter.

“No!” Clay sounds a little desperate making me chuckle.

“Don’t worry, I wasn’t going to actually hang up,” I tell him in a whisper. “There is something I wanna talk to you about,” I smirk, sitting back in my chair, I hover my phone slightly above me. “I noticed your eyes wandered a bit,” I start smugly. His eyes widen and I can tell he’s about to deny it. “Don’t bother denying it,” I chuckle. “I don’t mind either way.”

“Wait, what?” he seems a little confused at my comment. “You don’t mind that I was checking you out?”

“Aha, so you admit it,” I giggle, grinning. I poke my tongue out in a teasing manner. He groans and rolls his eyes, a smile still gracing his face.

“Okay, yes, I did,” he says reluctantly, though there is a smirk playing at the corner of his lip. “You’re absolutely stunning, how could I not.”

“Why thank you, Clay,” doing something that I was possibly going to regret later. I swiftly pull at the short crop top I was wearing. My blush darkens as I hide my face in my knees. A chuckle came from him.

Soon after, we end the call. After making a quick cut of the video that had also recorded our spicy episode. I posted the ‘safe for work’ part to Twitter. Deciding to send the ‘not safe for work’ part to Clay.

It’s been an hour since Kenma started streaming, and he’ll admit that he’s starting to get a bit bored. He usually enjoys playing Bedwars on stream but he’s been doing it so often lately that it’s beginning to get repetitive.

“What the hell is this guy doing,” he asks as he notices someone start building a tower of blocks on the emerald island. Kenma sprints over to the player, jumping up to knock him off the tower.

“Hype_boy2000 was killed by Kodzuken!”

“People that play minecraft are brainless sometimes I swear to god,” he hears Kuroo mutter in his headset.

Despite living together, his best friend usually only joins the stream via voice call, so he can interact with Kenma’s viewers and still be comfortable in his own room. Kenma honestly actually prefers this, it’s easier to hear him and he doesn’t have to worry about his roommate doing anything dumb in front of the camera.

He shakes his head, “You play minecraft.”

“Exactly!”

Kenma snorts, taking a quick glance at his chat to see how his audience is feeling.

He sets him back down on his desk, “There’s only like four cats in here right now by the way.”

As if on cue Enji jumps out of his arms and lays right back down in the bed, eyeing Kenma like he’s just committed some sort of grave sin.

He stands from his chair, taking a cursory glance throughout the room to spot any other animals lingering. “Oh-,” he notices a ball of fluff hiding in the cat tower sitting in the corner of his streaming room.

Miomi is much more willing to be picked up, her purrs echoing throughout the room as he cradles her in his arms and walks back to his desk. “This is Miomi, she’s a ragdoll obviously.”

Kenma gently moves to set her back into the cat tower, to which she stretches only once before immediately falling right back asleep. He then looks up towards the cat shelves he’d put on his walls a few years ago, snorting when he spots exactly who he was expecting to find up there.

“Come here little buddy,” he coaxes the animal into his hands who meows in protest as his little paws reach out to cling onto his shoulders. And Kenma is just barely able to move into the camera frame before he starts practically screaming. “This is void,” he pauses to lightly pat his head, knowing that usually helps to calm him down. “Any guesses as to why we named him that?” The question is entirely rhetorical.

“Dude he’s like blending into your fucking sweatshirt,” Kuroo suddenly laughs.

Kenma leans forward to look at the viewfinder of his camera, “Holy shit he is.”

Void starts meowing again at the change in position and Kenma can feel himself flinch from how loud it is. “Hey hey hey, it’s okay. You’re okay,” he swiftly places him back on the shelf.

“That’s all the cats in here,” Kenma tells his viewers as he sits back down. “I might do a full video introducing everyone but it would just take a while to film because a few of them like going outside a lot.”

“Yeah I haven’t seen Binx inside in like two months,” his roommate further adds.

“I see him in the backyard a lot but he’s usually sitting up on the fence,” Kenma notes as he reopens the game on his stream.

Kenma goes outside???

He went out to touch grass

He ignores their jests, running in game to play his final round of bedwars for the night. “How about a three v. three?”

“Oh yeah you haven’t played in teams in a while have you?”

“A couple months I think,” he responds as he selects the game. “What do we wanna play after this?” The streamer directs his gaze to the chat while he waits for his character to load into the game.

“I was thinking something like Spiderman, or we could play Stardew with Kuro,” he adds just as he’s spawned into the map.

“Um, hello?” His roommate’s voice is loud with disbelief.

“Hi.” Kenma takes a moment to collect as much iron and gold he needs before sprinting to get a stone sword and some wool.

“Do I get a say in this at all?”

Kenma feels his eyebrows furrow, “You realize that you’re here solely for the viewers entertainment right?”

He begins speed-bridging across to the emerald island as he hears his best friend scoff. “Fuck you.”

“No thank you,” Kenma hums as he finishes off the bridge and jumps into one of the emerald spawners.

“Sometimes I wonder why we’re friends,” while the words themselves are mean, both men know that Kuroo is entirely joking as he says it.

Kenma subconsciously nods, “All the time.”

He spots another player from a distance and moves to crouch behind a pile of blocks next to the spawner. “I think my strat is to just kinda run and kill everyone and let my teammates worry about the bed,” he explains.

The player passes by then and Kenma manages to take him out within a few simple hits, as he usually does. He looks over at the chat, expecting the same praise he always receives after getting a kill but is entirely thrown off by seeing a completely random topic of conversation instead.

“Oh really?” He turns his character to look in the general direction of their island just out of simple curiosity, only to see something totally unexpected.

He watches as one of his teammate’s suddenly jumps out from behind a giant pyramid of blocks, running towards an encroaching enemy player and knocking him into the void before they’re even able to make it onto the island.

But that’s not what makes Kenma stop and stare. It’s when the player starts jumping around, punching the air and spinning in circles as they seemingly celebrate the kill, that Kenma pauses. “What the fuck are they doing,” he hears himself mutter as he finally remembers to finish bridging to their island.

He blinks, “That’s Y/N?”

He runs over to her, abiding to his chat and throwing the stuff he collected on the ground in front of her (it’s not like he’s going to need any of it anyways). But she just stares at him, and he realizes that she must be dumber than he initially thought because she definitely doesn’t know what he’s doing.

He tries his best to non-verbally tell her to pick it up - which takes longer than Kenma would like - but she finally understands and runs forward to grab the items. “Holy shit,” he mutters to himself as he turns and sprints back the way he came.

He decides to start getting the beds of the enemy teams and he’s in the middle of killing the last player on the purple team when he sees a highlighted message pop up in his game chat.

“Thanks :)”

He knocks the player off, hearing the tell-tale sound of their death as he opens game chat to look back at the message. “Shouldn’t she be paying attention to the game?” He says it like he’s annoyed, and he’s sure that it comes off that way to his viewers judging by their reactions to his words.

But he’s almost certain that Kuroo is able to tell that he’s not (he’s the opposite really) when he teasingly says, “Aw, she said thank you Kenma.”

“Shut up.”

And despite always being notoriously calm on stream, Kenma’s face suddenly feels warm.

“You guys saw that right?” Kenma is in disbelief as he spectates Y/N, who’s currently just standing and not doing anything to stop the enemy player running towards her. “What the fuck is she doing now? Is her game frozen?”

Y/N doesn’t react at all as she’s being attacked and Kenma can feel his jaw literally drop when she’s abruptly killed.

“Red Team has been eliminated!"

He sits back in his chair, his eyes wide and mouth still agape as he tries to process what just happened.

He didn’t really care when she knocked him off the bridge, was even slightly impressed that she was willing to take down her own teammate to survive. But that all changed when she didn’t even try to fight back against the other player.

“We just lost,” he whispers, mostly to himself, and the sentence feels foreign on his tongue.

He can hear his roommate saying something over the headset but he can’t quite understand what it is, nor does he currently care enough to try to figure it out.

“We lost,” he repeats, louder this time and it’s insane because he feels like laughing.

He can feel himself grinning as his character loads back into the lobby, “I can’t believe we actually just lost.”

And he feels almost giddy as he watches his win streak fall all the way back down to zero; because, for the first time in two years, something is different.

And never has he ever been so happy to lose.

A Late Night confession..

Teenage Quack’s x reader story

Like any other late summer night you usually get on a discord call and talk to your best friend Alex. Goofing off playing fortnight or Minecraft you guys laugh loudly enough that it makes your both of your parents come in your into your room late at night to tell you guys to keep it down or shut it off.

But this this night he wanted to face time, because he wanted to show you something really cool he wanted show you his Lego set that he recently completed.

“Wait hold up give me a second before I show you let me simi dry my hair first… see it’s too wet he shows a strand of his hair dangling a piece in front of the camera” smiling (the guy had recently taken a shower) he took a second to he ruffles his wet jet black hair with a towel and later shook it like a wet dog. You giggled a little

“Okey okey okey” he grabs his phone and sets you down on his desk. he goes a little far from his phone but still in plain sight and he does a little dance dance(insert his iconic fortnight dance that he always does) he grabs his Lego set and hides it behind his back okey drumroll pleasee y/n

You *started to drum rolling*

He comes back to the screen you face to face and says tada he takes out this Big Lego truck and shows it off “DUDE IT TOOK ME LIKE 7hr of my life to build this bro, istg hardest 7 hours of my life. “ as he shakes his head while smiling admiring his Lego creation.

“Woah dude yeah said in shock, Yeah Alex I dunno how you do it” you smile admire his dedication to his Lego set “see I really don’t have the patience for that”You said. He plops into his gaming chair you guys talk another 2 hours on face time when you realize it’s 12 Am and you have forgotten to do you skincare routine“dude I need to wash my face. “ you looked at him and said “you’re coming along on this adventure to the bathroom” you giggled walking to the bathroom “anyways you can keep talking whatever you were saying before” He keeps yapping

You set down your phone where he can still see your face. You start washing your face and you finish after 5 mins and you realize Alex stopped talking.

Alex? You said as You look at your self in the mirror and down to your phone where you see the boy just admiring you. Bro had a little twinkle in his eye You guys lock eyes and he straight up tells you “y/n you know that your very pretty, you know that right? “He looks you down and up with his eyes. And leans back on his gaming chair, with a little smirk.

You were caught of guard by that comment

Huh? Alex.. you start to blush a little

“You heard me don’t act like you didn’t hear me” he says He lifted his eyebrow looking at you his dark brown eyes, speaking for him on how he felt.

Are you trying to flirt with me? You said

Perhaps, You see a little coloration of pink started to form on his cheeks as He smiles

You stared at him blushing and your heart racing.

Look Y/n … he sighs his voice goes a little deeper the usual

“I really like you. And I really can’t be pretending any more that I don’t like you romantically when in reality i do. And I don’t wanna act like I don’t think about you at night, or the fact that all I think about is you. Like all the time… i mean who wouldn’t think about you you’re amazing and beautiful and I really enjoy your company. ln all honestly, i really want to be more then just best friends”. He looks at you while smiling and blushing.

“Look I gotta go, But think on what I said and I’ll talk to you tmr, Alright?.”

*He hangs up*

Weirdly, Ivor acts shy, nervous, becomes the softest bitch, as well more excited than he usually feels when his crush is near him. Although Jesse had given him the tips to stay cool and not be entirely himself, this eccentric man is Impossible to avoid having those manners.

"My friend, Jesse. I have a crush on someone. HOW DO I GET RID OF IT?"

"Do you mean by stop liking this person or make that fellow go away permanently?"

"Yes." 😃

In the event that you are not around him, Ivor speaks of how stunning and magnificent you are to Jesse and over again until he is out of breath to explain.

There are three choices available for Jesse to interrupt Ivor so he stays quiet and would not continue ranting forever and ever:

1.꒱ Teasing him that he has a crush on you =

"Awww, Ivor. Just admit it, you have a crush on [Name]! You really like them."

"Shut up! I don't know what you're talking about. And What do you mean I have a crush on [NAME]?! That's nonsense!"

2.꒱ Encourage him confessed his love to you =

"C'mon, Ivor! I know you can say to [Name] that you love them very much. After all, you've also explained a long paragraph about [Name] for hours."

Ivor sighed, "I don't want [Name] and I feeling uncomfortable with each other."

3.꒱ Make him feel panic when you are around =

It is obvious to understand that Ivor is a man who will never admit his feelings to anyone and still be caring. Despite a million butterflies flying inside Ivor while wondering if all of the romance matter seeing you makes sense to him, he is getting closer to obtaining despair by free any day now.

No matter what you need help from Ivor, he sincerely helps you with no complaints. Let me do it for u 🎹 Didn't I do it for u? For instance: Teaching you how to create potions, showing the proper and perfect tutorials to build a lava house and bridge, etc other important lessons. Both of you are literally lab partners in crime. >:3

If anyone mocks or belittles you, Ivor will defend you and use his words to repay those mean bullies sadistically. Their reactions are gasping or crying. This is his natural weapon of pride to use as a poet.

You have the ability to reduce Ivor's grumpiness and keep him calm, preventing him from continuing to yell even louder at everyone he sees.

Ivor does not ever stop his goofy behavior since he knows it makes you laugh and smile to cure your sadness.

If you ever catch Ivor in bridal style to prevent him from falling to the solid ground and you told this crazy man that his weight is light as a feather, he will giggle uncontrollably to himself like a schoolgirl.

From that moment forward, Ivor finds plenty of excuses in a dramatic way that he tells you to hold him in your arms again:

Ivor has a hobby of sending you daily poems, words of admiration, your favorite flower(s), love letters, and stories about how he's been doing lately at your doorstep or mailbox without writing his name. However, the lapis lazuli inside the mail is a hint, giving away his secret identity easily and without a doubt.

Master Shadow has taught Ivor to focus and clear his mind on doing endless housework for the rest of his time as a ninja in training and not get distracted by thinking about you every day and night.

Ivor thought his 'crush' phase had finally faded elsewhere. Except for the moment you hug him tightly and say, out of the blue: "I miss seeing you each day so dearly, beloved dork." Yep, you shoot the Ninja with the bang-bang to the heart once again, causing his head to explode into red color.

In the past, Ivor used to gaze for a long time at you when you were not looking and refused to admit he was smiling at you, which he turned away and blushed. At present, Ivor is caught 4k staring at you with a helpless smile that puts him in a trance. He does not deny it this time. <3

These days, Ivor habitually keeps his distance from you and plays hard to get, the suggestion by Petra that he should give it a try to keep in ninja (mysterious and quiet) character for gaining more attention from you. Afterward, the masked hero does not continue to act like that anymore when he realizes you are confused and guilty.

"I hope you can forgive me if I did and say something that hurt your feelings."

The deadly intrusive thoughts in Ivor's head submit to reality, and jealousy strikes the best of him when he spots someone else having a crush, flirting, or even hurting you; he is calling dibs and keeping the inventory first to himself when the corpse is *POOF*!

If you want Ivor to train with you and make him fight like a man, he is reconsidering sparring so as to not hurt you in the process.

Sometimes, Ivor is creepy in the fact he spies/stalks on you to keep you safe and sound. The Ninja often uses the long-lasting potion of invisibility while casually walking or running beside you. At the time you notice him and ask: "Why, when, what, and how are you here?", he informs you: "Like I don't have anything better to do than spying on you. Wait, I actually don't. 😳 SMOKE BOMB!" Then, he fails miserably to disappear from out of your sight, "You didn't hear anything from me. Got it? I'm not here anymore."

One fateful day, Ivor is no longer a ninja, and before it is too late, Ivor will finally have the courage to communicate with you and he reveal his secret: that he thinks of you as more than just a friend in terms romantic feelings, also inviting you to go on random adventures with him and help him in his efforts to mend the divide among his old friends.

Sorry this answer is about to go on a bit of a general ranchers/pearl thought spree but YEAH this, lmao. They have more in common than they'd think!! Alas fate was cruel and it feels like two ships that were so close to meeting but just barely missed each other in the night, sailing right past

Jimmy at least has Tango to not be alone in his ridicule but even with their heads put together they wouldn't have enough brain capacity to care about what others are saying about Pearl. And well, there WAS session 3 when Jimmy shooed Pearl away because of. powdered snow?????? And because she was holding a sculk sensor?? Honestly I don't think Jimmy even at that point cared much about her being labelled as crazy, or didn't perceive it as anything significant, because it never came up unless I'm mistaken? Not once did the ranchers mention that? Jimmy did still break my heart in that moment but I don't think he realized the gravity of what he was doing. I think he was leaning into that more jokingly than anything but also... maybe Scott's presence at that very moment influenced him (cough because flower husbands past cough)

Tango most certainly wouldn't care about what Scott was spreading about Pearl. Scott could come and tell it to his face and he'd be like "uhuh yup!" and then forget immediately because he's Tango (not because he's stupid, he just doesn't think about things he doesn't consider important in relation to him). And Jimmy I think might care more if he weren't in like a happy ranch marriage with Tango and stuff. They'd be aware but not know how deep others' perception of Pearl went, nor would they care unless Pearl wronged them in any significant way

Jimmy wasn't surprised by Pearl's kindness to them in getting the goat horns, probably mostly because he was racking his brain too hard over Minecraft mechanics and being too overjoyed when they did get said horns, but probably also because he expected it to be a one-off thing? But I'd like to think that when Pearl returned to apologize after making a fool of him by stealing Oreo (the horse) with Martyn, and Jimmy kept asking "Are you serious?" when Pearl offered to give the horse back for nothing in exchange this time, that that was when he was really taken aback. Pearl once again showed some form of kindness, even as she was being shunned by everyone (moreso now than in session 2) and as she started to lean into the label of "crazy" that she was given because what else was she to do, all alone? Even then she ran back to Jimmy to apologize and give the horse back. And Jimmy, sweet child, offers friendship at last. But then he got ahead of himself when Pearl asked for confirmation and he went "You know you'd be an even better friend if you gave my horn back too!" and Pearl had to admit she'd already given it to Martyn, after which they kind of just separated without saying much. Clearly Jimmy was disappointed but mm he didn't even proclaim that Pearl wasn't welcome anymore or anything... It was certainly implied through his silence but knowing Jimmy, he would have gotten defensive and made his stance clear, but he didn't, which was either because he didn't want to, because maybe he still wanted to entertain the idea of Pearl making it up to him, OR he was just that fucking sad. He just said "right" and left as Pearl laughed (also I refuse to believe there was malice there in her laugh. What else was she gonna do in response) Either way oh my god I hate it I'm so sad

Anyway so. Their interactions past session 2 were mostly unfortunate but to me it's just... SUCH CRUEL FATE because YOU'RE RIGHT ANON. I really think they could have made it work but because Pearl was in the position that she was in, she didn't consider the idea of ever allying with anyone seriously enough and when she would have, with the ranchers, she'd already felt like she missed her chance. I'd like to imagine her laugh then, when Jimmy left her at the gate of the ranch was that of realization that maybe this friendship really could have happened, but she messed it up. And I'd like to think the ranchers would have still ultimately welcomed her into an alliance, had Pearl not given up trying, because she probably thought that if the ranchers hadn't thought badly of her yet, they must have now. Because no one wanted her, why would the ranchers be an exception? I'm gonna stop my unrefined elongated rant before I completely lose myself um hi hello I'm sorry that I got emotional in response to an anon ask describing the spiderman meme LMAO I'm a bit ill

A/n : Oh finally, I wrote for my 2nd Oshi in Noctyx. Oop.

"Hey hey, (Y/n). Look at this."

How long has he keep on pranking you today? You don't know, but you couldn't stay mad at him. Your sneaky Phantom Thief friend, always make you laugh with him. He have his own way to make you not stay mad at him for long, and right now you know very well he's gonna prank you again.

But you followed him anyway, you're both currently playing Minecraft together. Alban currently on a goofy mood, and you just oblige on doing whatever he wants. Since you, also in a goofy mood too.

And a few minutes after, as you guessed, following Alban in Minecraft leading you to your character dying. And then the call is filled with you and his laughter, "HAHAHA, I GOT YOU, OH- look what do we have here.." he said. As he moved his Minecraft character to your stuff, letting him grab your valuables.

"Don't you dare, Alban." You threatened jokingly, making the thief snickered. "Wanna Bet?" He asked as you saw his character holding, a familiar item in his hand. "Oh no you don't." You said as you immediately rush your character to Alban's, "HAHAH, GOOD LUCK CATCHING ME-"

. . .

After a good 2 hours, of pranking each other and laughing at each other's stupidity. You both finally decided to have a chill in Minecraft, or so you thought,

"(Y/n)," The Phantom Thief called, you hummed in response. "Look at me," he said as he constantly spamming crouch button, "Mhmmm, whaaat?" You said as you look at him.

There's a moment of silence of you both staring at each other, "Okay now what?" You asked making Alban cracked. "I know you like me" he said jokingly, making you sat there speechless. Staring at the screen where Alban's character stood in front of you, jumping around you.

A minute have goes on, and you still haven't said anything. "Hello? Anyone there?" Alban asked as he hits your character, "Ow- hey don't hit me-!" You said as you move your character away. "Then why are you so silentttt" he asked as he followed you, "Oh, is it because you-

. . .

Wait, you.. actually like me?" Alban clicked from the way you went silent after he joked about you liking him, "No! I don't." You lied. But of course he's not convinced, "Are you sure about that." He asked, you hummed. Trying to sound convincing enough for him to stop asking you about it, him noticing that you sounds like you don't want to talk about it he decided to let it go.

. . .

After playing with him for awhile, you both stopped playing and decided to have a little chat before going off. Everything was okay and fun until you remember about what happened in the game you both played, Minecraft.

"I know you like me"

Does he really? But it sounded like a joke when he said that. Maybe you shouldn't think too much about it, but how? When it's the truth. You like him, you do. You want to be his partner, his lover. If that's possible.

And now here you are listening to him talking, while you are also busy thinking about how to confess to him.

"And then- .. (Y/n)? You're silent again, you okay there? Helloooo?" He tried to get your attention, "Mhmm.." you replied unconsciously.

"Are you okay? You've been spacing out quite often these last few minutes even when we played, you know you can go take a rest if you're tired right? Don't force yourself.." Alban said, and at that exact moment you are silent again. Making him more worried, until you spat out three words—

"I like you."

"...huh?"

You didn't even realize you said that out loud, while the man himself is literally calling with you. "You what-" Alban asked in shock. "That's not suppose to happen--" you said as you bury your face in your palms, "Wait wait wait---" he said cutting you off.

"You, like me..?" Alban repeated, making you softly groaned at your own stupidity for saying that three words out loud. "(Y/nnnn)" he called you, "Hmm..." You replied with a hum. "You really, really, like me? Romantically? More than a friend??" Alban repeated his question again. You took a deep breath, and bit your lower lips.

"Y-Yeah.. I, Like you.., Alban. More than e friend.." You hesitantly repeated your confession, Alban went quiet for a moment. The next second you heard shuffling from his side, and then the next second you heard a scream or is it a squeal? You can't tell. It made you jumped a little, this made you question is the confession you did is a good thing or not.

"Alban?" You softly called out to your Phantom Thief friend, "Yeah! I'm okay! Totally fine!" He replied a little bit screaming since he's a bit far from the mic. And the next moment you heard another shuffling from Alban's side, "Are, you okay, I shouldn't have said it yet aren't I-" "NO! NONONO- No, I was, just shocked that's all.." Alban cuts you off again. "I kinda want to see you now.." he whispered, making your face grew hot.

"I- I mean, we can plan on a off collab..! If, you want of course.." You replied, "Yeah! Let's plan one, I want to see your face as I express my feelings too." He said oh-so-casually like it's nothing. "Huh? Wait-" "OH WAIT NO, THAT'S NOT SOMETHING I SHOULD SAY YET-" Alban panicked, "GAAAHH- Ahem-! Uhhh, So-" He tried to change the topic. "Wait no, I can't escape this..." He whispered to himself, and then he cleared his throat.

"(Y/n).. I Like you too, do you, want to be my partner in crime?" He asked you, making your heart flutters at his confession. "Y-yeah.. I want to be your partner in crime." You accepted him, if only you're there by his side.

You could see he is smiling so brightly, face a bit flushed. "Thank you for accepting me.., I can't wait to see you!! Can't wait to hug you too.." he said making you chuckle, "Yeah me too.. so should we plan it next week or?"

"Yep, definitely next week. I want to see my partner in crime. Pepper them with affection!"

"Alban!"

"Hehehe"

(below cut is spoilers to LIMITED LIFE, which is series 4 of the life series. Pls don’t get mad if you read it and don’t want spoilers)

I. Participants

Skizz is back :D

Nothing really big about this part, just that all of the soul pairs except Box Boys are here for potential refs and angst (there has already been a lot)

NOTE: I have only fully watched 6 out of the 14 possible POVs, so info regarding people I haven't watched might be limited to what the comments tell me when I make a mistake This info comes from watching these POVs and snippets of the other ones.

POVs I watched (in this order): Joel, Tango, Jimmy, Etho, Skizz, Cleo

POVs I skimmed (in this order): Martyn, Impulse, Scar

^ I will be consistently watching these POVs + Bdubs every week, however I'll probably watch others when I'm bored or if something big happens lol.

II. Teams/Alliances (from what I can gather from Episode 1)

EDIT: I originally said that Martyn and Scott were individual teams when that was wrong, it looks like they are teamed together and are called the Coral Kids. This change has been made below

Team T.I.E.S: Tango, Impulse, Etho, Skizz

Bad Boys: Grian, Jimmy, Joel

Coral Kids LBGSeas BadBouies : Martyn and Scott

Nosy Neighbors: Pearl and BigB ( + Froggy the Jellie cat)

Cwackers Cockers Clockers: Cleo, Scar, Bdubs

NOTE: Not all of these are NOW official names WAHOO

It seems like everyone is teaming with pretty much their usual crowd (ie, Jimmy/Joel/Grian , Cleo/Bdubs , Skizz/Imp/Tango/Etho) except for the notable exception of BigB and Pearl, which I don't think have teamed up together in a series before?

I could totally see Etho and Martyn teaming up after this episode, especially later in the season when TIES eventually break up.

III. Base Locations (based off of limited info from episode 1)

Team T.I.E.S seems to be basing on the edge of the main land mass underground. I can't tell if they have cows after Martyn's TNT but they have wheat and chickens, as well as sugarcane. NOTE: Etho seems to be basing close to but not WITH Tango, Impulse, and Skizz. Idk what this means but it's interesting to see what happens

Scott and Martyn are basing right next to TIES on a floating island in the ocean. I didn't watch their episodes but from Etho's it looks like they have both sugarcane and a zombie villager in a boat.

Bad Boys are basing .... *checks notes*.... on top of the woodland mansion .... made of wood .... wait? so Jimmy "our Ranch is burning down!" Solidarity and Joel "If the ship burns everything burns!" Smallishbeans are going to base on the top of the most flammable structure known to Minecraft? Okay cool.... this won't go horribly wro- oh and Cleo’s already burned the whole thing down great that lasted about 2 seconds

Cockers Clockers are based literally just at spawn. There entire thing is going to be building a stadium so they can laugh at people when they die.... I hate them (/lie)

Pearl and BigB are based between spawn and the woodland mansion on the edge of the stone cliff. I hope they slay and thrive there

IV. Mechanics

Okay so, there seems to be a lot more rules to this one than the other ones, so here's what I've gathered.

Everyone has a timer that counts down from 24 hours, this timer started when the series started

When the clock reaches 0 for the player, they are eliminated

There seems to be 2 ways to lose time: Being killed or dying. If you are killed by the boogeyman, it subtracts two hours from your time. If you are killed by natural gameplay (ie creeper, fall damage, etc.) you only lose 1 hour of time. (NOTE: it's not said how many hours are taken away if you're killed from non-boogeyman PVP, but I'm assuming it will still be 2 hours)

There is only 1 way to ADD time to your clock: kill players. When you are the boogeyman, you can kill whoever you want, and when you do you are given 30 minutes to your timer. EDIT: thanks to a comment I now have this info: If you are the boogeyman and you fail to kill a player within the 3 hours (that's how long they record for), you are dropped down to the next color life. For example, if you are a green name boogeyman and fail to kill, your time will go down to 16 hours and you will become yellow. This is the same for the yellow to red drop. (NOTE: Some ccs have said in their videos that it's + 1 hour, however Grian's intro says + 30 minutes which is what i'm going off of. Not sure if the + 30 minutes applies to non-boogeyman PVP kills, however I suspect it does)

Everyone starts as a green name, and the players turns yellow when they have less than 16 hours left on their timer. A player turns red when they have less than 8 hour on the clock

Most of the same rules apply to PVP as before: greens cannot kill anyone, yellow names can now kill green names even if they aren't provoked , and red names can kill everyone. Boogeyman kills can happen to anyone regardless of color. I suspect these rules will not be strictly followed like they have been for every season but yaknow we'll see.

V. Episode 1 Specifically

This series seems actually super cool! Here's some of the thoughts as a writer of traffic series fics and just a general enjoyer of episode 1. I like writing my opinions and these were written in real time while I was watching each POV.

the Bad Boys are literally just that one (1) 100 hours hardcore episode.

Joel and Jimmy being idiots and dying is so funny, what a couple of idiots (I love them)

🚧 Boat Boys and Ranchers broke up to be with each others soulmates

it didn’t take even 20 minutes for Team Rancher and Boat Boys to break up. A real love loses moment.

I'm convinced Tango decides his friend groups based only on if there names make good acronyms. Like for sure he didn't invite Martyn to join TIES because it would have ruined the name.

Passive boogeyman Scott has left the chat. Man’s a beast.

^ Bdubs boogey first episode once again, this man can't escape the betrayer narrative

The mechanic has so much angst potential. I’m thinking a curse that slowly eats away at your body until you die. As the timer counts down, people will become more desperate to survive and that’s where alliances will fall. This season has probably the best potential for angst out of all of them, especially when people started running out of time.

just imagine with me: Tango and Etho are in a cave, Tango realizes he only has a minute left on his clock while Etho has maybe an hour and a half. Tango can't kill Etho cause it will just kill his friend immediately, so they both have to just... sit there while Tango's timer ticks by and he eventually gets eliminated by the mechanics of the game. HOW HORRIFYING IS THAT PEOPLE !!!!! I love it >:)

BEST? nah it’s team TIES now (rip Bdubs I guess)

Jimmy might escape the narrative just because of Skizz dying so much lol

I actually hate Grian for this. The fic that could be written about it is…. so much

okay but if Clockers dynamic this season is gonna be single mom with two annoying ass twins i’m all for it. I love them for this

🚧 ETHO TURNING DOWN THE ROLL OF DAD FOR BDUBS AND SCAR THANK GOD !!!! While I would love a Clethubs teamup, a nice straight happy family is not the way I wanted it to be done

Poor Skizz man. Dude was so excited to be back just to be killed twice by boogey and then die again by creeper death. Maybe HE can't escape the narrative

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of this series, and my opinion with probably change as more episodes come out, but I feel like it will be much easier to predict who will win this season than others because of the timer. like there is already a very strong likelihood that skizz will die first, just because if every kill only gives you 30 minutes, he would have to kill 10 people to even get back to normal, where as Bdubs and Scott have already killed 1 person and hasn’t died once, which means they are ahead. Basically, I think we’ll be able to see who will die first/not win very easily, which maybe will take away some of the suspense? I hope not, but that’s my thought rn.

SKIZZ'S COMPLIMENT TO ETHO WAS LITERALLY SO SWEET? Like it was 100% true and props to Etho for taking it like a champ. Etho really is the most likable guy in the Minecraft space, and he shines like a diamond in these kinds of thing with his friends. I'm glad Skizz took the time to recognize it and say it to his face. He deserves all the love.

🚧 if Bdubs is (maybe canonically) related to both his team members, there is little opportunities for sus mlm activity from him, and he will have to find bitches elsewhere, which might be difficult

TIES are four grown ass men and have three of the BEST redstoners minecraft has to offer and they still can't keep cows alive for more than like 5 minutes. What a bunch of losers

Okay now that I’m thinking about it, Etho might not be completely committed to TIES as it seems. I mean why would he make a base close BUT completely seperate from them? I sense some uh….. drama in the future mayhaps

VII. Conclusion

Um.... this was a really long post.... I'm sorry? I just wanted to make it because I had all this info in my head and it was spinning around in there and it needed to get it out. And maybe someone will find the first part useful! Who knows.

In real conclusion, Etho deserves the win. I don't care what you think should happen, this is what the universe wants. Yes, this is coming from an Ethogirl, and yes, I know I'm also the self proclaimed #1 smallishbeans enjoyer, but i just feel like Etho should be this seasons champ.

Even if I'm looking at it from a completely objective POV, Etho IS one of the top candidates for this specific mechanic/season. He barely dies in these games and he's generally good at boogeykills/PVP so I could see him losing very little time in terms of deaths but gaining a lot with kills. Also, no one really dares to kill him with the boogey (if we can take anything away from last life) so that too is a bonus.

Mod Malware Situation Update

Edit 2023-06-09: The researchers have updated their guidance to all-clear on unmodded versions of Minecraft Java, and work continues with both CurseForge and Modrinth to improve safeguards against new variants or copycat attacks. They are still advising staying away from mods a bit longer while this work continues.

As an additional note, I want to clarify something I don't think was clear in my original post: this was not a failure on CurseForge. What went down here has happened to other platforms. It's just the first time such a malicious package attack has been observed in the Minecraft modding scene. It may not be the last.

Original Post Follows:

As you may have seen yesterday, the modded Minecraft community is experiencing a malware incident.

The quick "do I need to worry" is if and only if all the following are true:

you are using Minecraft Java Edition

. . . and are using any mods or modpacks

. . . and those mods were downloaded/updated in the last 2-3 weeks or possibly as far back as March (timeline still unclear as of my post)

If any of the above were not true for you, then you should be clear. Investigators are advising maximum caution even of vanilla Minecraft, more on that at the end of this post.

If all of the above were true, don't panic. You just need to take a few extra steps to be sure.

A document for non-technical users explaining the situation in more detail and steps to take has been developed on github.

If you used any of the scripts from yesterday to verify your stuff, you may still want to try the new tools which will peak inside the mod files for that extra sure feeling.

The document provides links for checking yourself out, and what to do if the worst case happens.

Okay, so, why is the document recommending not even running even vanilla Minecraft Java

There are a lot of brilliant people working on this incident, and they're all smart enough to not give an all-clear until all the facts are known.

Everyone wants fast results. Accuracy takes time.

The way this malware worked was to infect all Java jar files it finds on the system.

Including Minecraft itself.

Including things that have nothing to do with Minecraft.

This spreading to infect other jar files appears to be how it spread to infect legitimate mod files:

The malicious mods have upload dates multiple weeks in the past. Most of them were uploaded by single-use accounts with clearly autogenerated names, and were likely the seed of the infection. Luna Pixel Studios was compromised due to a dev testing one of these mods, as it was an interesting new upload.

At the end of the day, it's all about risk. They can't give a clean bill of health just yet, so they won't. If it turns out that something bigger and nastier was happening, they'd be on the line for that.

This is also why every list of mods published by the investigators comes with the "not comprehensive" disclaimer -- it's what we know. What we don't know can still hurt us.

So, running vanilla launcher for vanilla Minecraft Java is considered a risk. It may be low-risk.

Is it a risk I'm willing to take? Maybe next week, when I know more. (I often wait a week after an update, which coincidentally happened yesterday, so this just happens to align with how I do things normally)

If it's a risk you take, just be safe, stay vigilant, and keep an eye on the main repository of information for more news because I am not a reliable reporter.

Learning To Love Minecraft Again (A Thread)

I've been recently falling in love with Minecraft again. After so long of not playing it. I decided to pick it back up & play it again, and It has been one of my favorite things to play in SO long. However, I did a few things to spruce up my newly found interest.

1. A Fresh Client I had decided to switch over from the tradition Minecraft launcher to the ATLauncher, a mod-eccentric client. And while it may look a tad confusing, it's actually very handy. I am now able to save as many different versions of Minecraft I wanted without my save files or mods controlling one another, unlike the official Minecraft launcher. on top of that, the official launcher also installs a bunch of useless Xbox junk because, well, Microsoft.

2. Bringing Back The Old With the ATLauncher's ability to save as many versions of Minecraft with their own dedicated files & saves, I am now safely able to play older versions of Minecraft as my heart desires.

Right now, I'm playing 2 different versions, Beta 1.7.3 (A version regarded by a LOT of people as one of the best versions of Minecraft to play today), and Release 1.5.2 (The first ever version of the game I EVER played back in 2012). I will still pick up & play Release 1.20 cuz I do like a lot of the new decor pieces & things, but if I ever just want to play a standard game of Minecraft, I have these 2 versions to keep me occupied.

There's also the old legacy versions from Consoles that people are coming back to, but I haven't gotten to those yet, but planned on them soon.

3. Making My Own Goals

My mind has always saw that "Beating the Ender Dragon" was the ultimate goal of Minecraft, and that once it's done, it's done. And while a part of me still feels that way, I'm slowly moving away from that, because that mindset has literally KILLED so many of my past Minecraft maps, and I deeply regret it.

So I started to make my own goals & my own rules. My current survival map never had a bulk smelting machine, so I added one. I never got to refine my mine & make it more like an actual mineshaft, so I got to go & do that.

I don't just want to make Minecraft a point A -> B kinda game. I want to make it a game about creating as much stuff as you can. There are people in this world who have been able to build worlds that have taken them over a DECADE to finish... so why not give yourself that same level of encouragement?

4. Playing With Friends I recently managed to get a personal Minecraft server going on an old PC. And playing with my friends has been an AMAZING experience. It's actually pretty cheap to run a server nowadays, and Bedrock editions now have general multiplayer support, so playing with friends is now becoming even EASIER than ever before.

5. Modding Makes The Difference Although I haven't got to do this one yet, I *am* planning on it, as it's been talked about by a LOT of people. There are actually a handful of mods out there that are not just for entertainment, but for bringing fresh vanilla-eccentric changes to Minecraft to keep its charm that it had in its early stages. Two that I have heard of are ReIndev & Better Than Adventure. Both of which actually run off of Beta 1.7.3 too, so that's neat!

I think personally, what these two mods are doing are GREAT, and I cannot wait to play them.

6. Making It Personal

Personally, I've been handling the game on a more personal level, and not too personal to where it's overbearing, but I mean as in I like to just do traditional fan things that I've done long ago. Watch Minecraft videos, pull out the old Minecraft merch I had from when I was young, listen to the soundtrack, etc.

I haven't felt this attached to Minecraft in SO long, but I am glad it's coming back. I might make this whole thing into a video, but until then, I wanted to make this thread to tell you all how I managed to finally get back in touch with Minecraft.
